Preferred Solution: HP x360 Spectre Windows 10 will not wake from sleep

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi fellow HP users and forum moderators, I am using a Spectre X360 purchased in Australia and currently using it in Australia. My problem is that the laptop sometimes does not wake up from sleep/hibernate. The screen is pitch black and keyboard lighting button is functional but I tried every single button on the keybpard and pressed the trackpad. Nothing happens or responds to this. Is this a software issue? HP software or Windows 10 64bit issue?Maybe a hardware like SSD playing up? My SSD is a Samsung 256GB one. The only way to make my laptop work again is to press the on/off/sleep button for 5 seconds then it would force to shutdown then I press again to boot it up. This is getting annoying. I am writing a report for university and suddenly after having a short break or so and opening my laptop the screen is black does not want to wake up. Any solution(s) to this? Thanks in advance!

When I tilt the screen back, my computer sometimes goes into sleep mode, or at least it appears to be in sleep mode (the screen goes blank and the power button flashes).  To get it back on I usually have to press and hold the power button until it completely shuts down, then reboot.  It appears to happen when the hinges get bent in a certain way.  Is there a cable or ribbon that runs across the back of the unit that might be getting pinched?  How can I troubleshoot this and get it fixed?

I've had several calls with support on this issue and I'm getting conflicting answers (hardware issue to x360 does not have these features) and would love to hear from users alike. I use my laptop plugged in most of the times with external docking station, monitor, keyboard and mouse.  And I have my laptop lid closed so I can pretty much hide the laptop under my desk.  Windows 10 setting is fairly simple where I disabled "sleep" when lid closed.  Issue is that the sleep button does not work when the lid is closed.  I cannot put the computer to sleep or awake by pressing the button.  It does nothing. Also, when the laptop is sleeping (flashing white light on the sleep button) I cannot awake the laptop via external mouse or keyboard.  Nothing.  The only way to awake the laptop is to open the lid, which I have to remove the laptop from my desk slot to do and put it back in once it's awake.  I changed windows setting to allow awaking laptop via mouse/keyboard, disabled docking hub power saving, etc etc. The sleep button by the way works when the laptop is in tablet mode.  But still no external mouse/keyboard awake. Soooo.... 1. Is this issue isolated or do ALL Spectre x360 have the same limitation?2. If you have had this issue and got it fixed, please share your findings/experience.  Ideally, if the power button is disabled by design, then fine, but I would still like to awake the laptop by ... Purchased Spectre 15 X360 (2017 model) a few days. Machine does not shut down or sleep. within seconds of shut down or sleep, starts up again. On Shutdown : restarts within seconds. On Sleep : comes back to login screen. Closing the lid doesnt help either.  Only way to shut the PC is by hard shutdown by pressing the power button for a few seconds. talked to customer support for couple of days without any luck.Tried system restore, all possible power options, updated windows / hp packs. Purchased the system in US and since I am out of the country, unable to return. Would like to know if anyone else have faced similar problem with this laptop. Being a new model that started shipping last week, there will be only a few out there.

I left my laptop alone for a few minutes and when I came back, my display was off and the power led was blinking. I tried [ressing the power button, but the screen did not turn on and power led continued to blink. At the time the charging led was white, meaning the battery was fully charged. I waited a few days to see if draining the battery would allow me to turn the commputer on but that hasn't worked. Now, when I plug the adapter in and try to turn on the laptop, the charging led (now orange, not white) and the power led blink on and off simultaneously. I tried plugging the display to an external monitor too and since the computer has been stuck in this mode, nothing has shown up. I have viewed the HP page for hard reset but it did not work for me: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 I have also viewed the HP led flashing page and tried the steps. They did not work: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 Can anyone help me fix this asap? This laptop was going strong and I've taken really good care of it. I don't see why this computer should die on me after using it for 4 months.

I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

I cannot create a new folder on the desktop. Right click of the mouse pad does nothing. Shift Control N does nothing. This is ridiculous. Any help is appreciated.

Does right click work at all? Try right click on Start button and see if it produces a menu. Some people has experienced problems with their touch pad, try using a mouse and see if right click works.

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

Tried to install realtek but nothing registers after install, even as administrator.

Thanks to all above whose efforts I benefited from, especially MikeTheTinTin - going through the reset was indeed selfless and much appreciated. And you even suspected, as did the rest of us, that this was HP's way of saying "hey we are clueless - but we have a way to waste 4 hours of your time and it's not our time - it's yours - and maybe you will forget about your problem after all the frustration". To you, sir, my sincerest thanks.

I have not purchased a Dell since 2002 when they behaved like this. Dell figured it out: ignore your customers and they will go away.

Looks like I need a new hardware vendor.

Hey HP users.. I have a question (I didn't see this elsewhere).. But since the last Windows 10 Anniversary (1607) update I think there are some issues with the graphics..It doesn't happen always, but certainly a few times while working on the Spectre:I see that letters in text are being "colored black"..For example: letters with closed round corners like: a, b, p etc. etc. etc. the letter gets filled black. But when I just Alt+Tab to another screen or scroll in the document, it dissapears..Why is that? And are the current drivers already made compatible with this new Windows update? Hope to hear from you asap..

Ever since I upgraded my HP Spectre x360 notebook to Windows 10, I have not been able to use the Stereo Mix function to record audio produced by the machine. I need to do this for the work I do - making audio copies of speeches on television, for example - and have never struggled to activate the function on any other machine before. After extensive web searches, here are the things I already have tried: 1) Under Sound > Recording Devices in the Control Panel, right-clicked to show disabled and disconnected devices. The only device I see "Microphone - Intel Smart Sound Technology". Nothing else appeared. 2) Downloaded and installed the latest audio drivers provided by HP on its customer support page (it was the Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver 6.4.10041.130 Rev.A), released on 19 November 2015. Nothing new appeared. 3) Downloaded and installed the latest Realtek drivers from Realtek's own website at realtek.com.tw. Nothing new appeared. I'm prepared to muck about in the registry to force Windows to activate Stereo Mix, but I have no idea where to look. Is it significant that all my audio devices are listed as "Intel Smart Sound Technology" and not as Realtek? Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Stereo Mix, Windows 10 and the Spectre x360

MikeTheTintin, Happy New Year!  This problem with audio has been going on since 2014. I don't think the problem is with Intel, Microsoft ,Apple etc. The problem is HP!!  This company could not find it' s "bleep"  with both hands. Now the "snake" has two heads.  Run! do not walk to nearest exit and don't look back!!! Ham123

This is intended for the question about "Stereo Mix, Windows 10 and the Spectre x360" but the "Reply" button does not appear all the time in this bulletin-board software and it was impossible to add this information there. Just another example of total incompetence on HP's part. They are moribund as a company - cannot even run a simple community bulletin board. Here is how to record from your PC (e.g., a stream like Pandora) without distortion, feedback, or onboard mic interference using Audacity: connect your headphone jack to a pair of cheap external speakers - it might work with headphones but I have not tried it that way. If you do, I think you might have to make sure not to have headphones with a mic. In audacity:Windows Host: WASAPIRecording Device: Headphones (Conexant Smartaudio HD) (loopback) [this is what mine says]Playback Device: Headphones (Conexant Smartaudio HD) I did this and when I shouted while recording off an internet stream, my voice did not get recorded. The "loopback" seems to be the thing. Not sure if this is as simple as it looks and perhaps I have settings that make it work. But I faced the same challenges others faced: unable to install the Realtek drivers, unable to find "Stereo Mix" anywhere. I will check back if people have questions.  But I am probably going to stop monitoring this community. My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

Since the last Windows 10 update, I keep getting artifacts all over the screen, mostly in browser windows, that disappear when I move over them.Mostly, it's little black (or white) blocks, but sometimes in system pop-up windows, the entire text will be blacked out and there will be black edges around any icons shown.I would do a system restore, but apparently all my system restore points from before have been erased (if anyone has any idea why this happened, please let me know).I read that the artifacts might have to do with hardware acceleration, but turning that off in the browser doesn't do anything, they're still there.I've tried the Intel driver update utility, but that tells me that there is a custom driver installed on this notebook and that I have to contact the manufacturer (I've updated the drivers before, and I'm pretty sure I never installed a custom driver, but whatever). The info I got from the Intel program is this:Report Date: Tuesday, August 30, 2016Report Time [hh:mm:ss]: 11:32:22 AMDriver Version: 20.19.15.4377Operating System: Windows* 10 Home (10.0.14393)Default Language: Dutch (Belgium)Physical Memory: 8097 MBVendor ID: 8086Device ID: 1916Device Revision: 07Graphics Output Protocol (GOP) Version: 9.0.1035Current Resolution: 2560 x 1440Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHzProcessor Speed: 2592 MHzProcessor Graphics in Use: Intel(R) HD Graphics 520Shader Version: 5.1OpenGL* Version: 4.4OpenCL* Version: 2.0* Microsoft DirectX* *Runtime Version:... Has anyone tried to do a clean install on the kaby lake hp spectre x360 13inch? If so, we're there any problems that you encountered or drivers that must be loaded before the installing takes place? For example, on my xps 13, before doing the clean install, I had to load the intel smart response driver for the system to recognize the nvme ssd. And that's the same ssd that came stock with the laptop. Anyway, if anyone has tried the clean install, please let me know what steps you took.

Hi, Could someone tell me if HP 'officially' support Windows 10 for the HP Spectre x360?   I bought my HP Spectre x360 almost 2 months ago, whilst I have no issues with it (having not really used it hard so far), I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 (clean install).  But at the time I purchased it, I spoke to HP Support and someone kindly recommended that I wait for a few months until both Microsoft sort out any teething problems (by releasing Service Pack 1 etc.) and HP was able to officially support all the drivers with genuine Windows 10 drivers.  At the time of purchase, not everything on the HP Spectre x360 had the correct Windows 10 drivers. This sounded like good advice to me at the time, so I have stayed with Windows 8 for now. When I finally do my upgrade, what is the recommended method?  Should I upgrade it first to register my copy of Windows 10 for my HP Spectre x360 with Microsoft and then do a clean re-install of Windows 10 (skipping the part where it asks me for my registration key)?  I have done many upgrades in my time and I am not really convinced or happy with an upgrade, a clean install is always best.  But do I need to do an upgrade first to register my copy of Windows 10 before I do a clean re-install? Finally, I plan to keep the recovery partition as it is, in case I ever need to go back to Windows 8.  Since I have a 512 GB SSD, I figure I have enough space to do this.  Would this be a r... I'm putting in a new SSD in and when i try to install the operating system it fails at the installation phase (after partitioning and extracting windows files onto the ssd). there is no error message given, when it gets to installation phase it sais it is completed straight away, as with the subsequent phases and then attempts to boot windows (which obviously is not installed) to which i get "no boot device found". I notice now that the rating of the new ssd is 3.3v 2.7A and the old one is 3.3v 2.6A so im thinking it could be not enough power from the socket, but surely if this were the case then the install wouldnt have been able read and write to the ssd. after doing the above the repair windows tool can see an OS installed and when i select reset it starts and when it gets to about 34% (I will check in a minute whether its consistently 34) it sais there was a problem reseting but does not give an error message.  i have also tried it with windows 8 with the same happening.

Hi: I agree with you that if the power spec difference mattered, the drive wouldn't have worked at all, or the motherboard would have fried. Perhaps there is an issue with the storage controller driver...See if this works... Download the drivers from this link below first file listed -- 64 bit. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders. With the flash drive and W10 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W10 installation media. After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option. You should now see the storage driver files listed. If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver. Follow the prompts and hopefully, W10 will install.

Hi there.I'm trying to update the BIOS on my HP Spectre x360 - 13-ac004na. I'm not running Windows and it's proving a bit tricky. On a Windows machine I've downloaded the BIOS update from the HP support site for my machine, and I've used this tool to create a USB flash drive. This all seems to have gone correclty and I have the update files in /Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/New on the drive as expected. However, I'm not able to boot from this drive. I attempt to do so by pressing ESC during startup, then boot device options (F9), and select my flash drive from the list but I get a message which says: "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press any key to restart." I've tried two different flash drives, just to be sure. So I've tried following a different route, using the instructions here on how to update the BIOS when Windows doesn't start: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-spectre-13-ac000-x360-convertible-pc/14039877/model/15304466... The info here says to press F2 to enter the "Hardware Diagnostics UEFI Menu". I do this, but I only have 4 options here; "Memory Test", "Hard Drive Check", "Language" and "Exit". There is no "Firmware Management" or "BIOS Management" which the instructions say there should be. I've also tried holding down Windows + B and pressing the power button with the flash drive in which so... I just got the HP Spectre with Windows 10 installed. Frequently when i go to connect to a wireless network the network icon is not on the task bar (where it usually is) and there are no wireless networks displayed.  If I restart the icon will appear and i will see the wireless network. The computer has the Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7265 adapter with the 18.11.0.8 driver dated 6/22/2015. I recently went through a detailed driver replacement recommendation from HP because my computer would not shut down, i would intermittently lose my wireless connection and my touchpad was not behaving correctly.  This was detailed inhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Windows-10-Laptop-won-t-go-into.... Also when i do a restart it takes a very long time for the restart to happen (about 4 minutes) This is a new computer and it is not working well at all!  any assistance is appreciated

Hello @PMS1228, Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are having an issue with your WiFi, and wanted to help! To start, can you provide me with the Product Number of the notebook?  Here is a link you can use that will help you find your Model and Product Number: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? The link that you provided has an post from a community member, detailing troubleshooting for Sleep Mode, TouchPad, and WiFi issues.  That is a good place to start to try resolving your current issues.  You can also try checking the Windows Update, for drivers that will work with Windows 10.  You can check this site as well: HP Products - Where Do I Find Windows 10 Drivers and Software for My Model? If you are having trouble installing the drivers, you can use the tool at the following site: Open the Windows Update troubleshooter  For the slow start up issue, try right-clicking on an empty area on the Taskbar, and select Task Manager.  When Task Manager pops up, click on the Startup tab and look through the list of programs to see what may be causing the slow start time.  You can also try going into the Fast Startup option.  Please review the following resource to help you, and let me know how it goes: Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Have a great ... I've got the same issue and HP was of no help.  In fact,  support got on my machine and 15 minutes later they gave up and said they don't support the VT configuration and left me stranded.  I too believe it is Intel graphics issue.  It's a very nice box but poor support from HP (expected).

Hello,I recently purchased a new 2016 model Spectre x360 (PN X7V20UA). It came running Windows 10 1511, and I would like it to be running 1607 (Anniversary Update). However, the update to 1607 is not being offered inside of Windows Update. I've installed everything that was available, include today's November patch releases, to no avail. Windows Update shows "Your device is up to date." This link http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/hps-new-spectre-x360-is-probably-the-best-pc-laptop-around/ says that the 1607 update is being blocked on this model temporarily due to driver compatability issues. I tried to get confirmation from HP twitter support about if this was true or not, but wasn't able to get much help. Can someone please confim this?

I just installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on my laptop and there is now a blank (white or black, the color changes) line going across what appears to be the exact middle of the screen.  The line is not solid and actually changes the parts that are working (correct color) and not working (wrong color, white or black).  It looks like the line is only one pixel high but it goes acorss the whole screen.  I need to be running the annivaersay update so I have not tried reverting back yet.  I will update this thread when I have a chance to give that a try.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Any other ideas to try and fix it?  Is this a good excuse to update to the Razer Blade Stealth? Thanks! Shawn

Has anyone tried to update to Windows 10 Anniversary update? It's not listed by HP as supported (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282), though it's a NEW model. I tried it once before, and that created issues with the HP Recovery Manager, and I reverted back. A few days ago, I got a BIOS update with the "Anniversary Update Comapatibility fix", however HP is yet to update their compatibility list. The incompetent phone support is again proved worthless as they don't seem to have any idea . I don't want to go through with all the hassle of updating and downgrading again, so I'd like to know if anyone has successfully got the anniversary update. Thanks!

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Answer:HP Spectre x360 vs HP Envy x360

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

It ba... Read more

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

Answer:Trouble with Wake on Ring, Wake on LAN and Standby - Sleep - Suspend

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

For some strange reason, this laptop will not go to sleep if the lid is left open (even while running on battery). The computer sleeps only if the lid is closed. When left open, the screen will go off, but the laptop remains awake. I've checked all power settings and the laptop is supposed to sleep after 10 minutes while on battery and 20 minutes if plugged in. However, the system just simply won't do it. I've checked the task manager and I don't see any tasks there that wake the system up to run. Can anyone please shed some light on this situation? Is it the OS or is it some HP SW that is causing this issue?

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I contacted HP support and I must admit that they were polite, friendly and had my return materials sent very quickly.  My first bad sign involving the shipping process was the fact tha... Read more

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Question: HP Spectre x360

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

Question: HP Spectre x360

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

I'm looking for a 13-inch laptop for myself and have narrowed it down to these two models. Need your help in choosing :)
I'm thinking about such config for both: i7-7560U + Iris Plus Graphics 640 + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD. As for the screen, I'm still on the fence about it, not sure if I want the best possible res (QHD for Dell, 4K for HP) or the best battery life by going FullHD. Can you guys share your battery life experience with the best screens for these? I'm going to use it primarily for browsing / office work / coding (VS and VS Code) / light photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop)
For the x360, I like Windows Hello camera (and webcam at the top ) and build quality. And it's a bit cheaper.
For the XPS 13, it's battery life and better port selection
Let me know what you think

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Question: HP Spectre x360

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Answer:HP Spectre x360

I have the same problem but in the front, in the back of the touchpad... really annoying. looks like the lid doesn't have nothing to lay on and the aluminium is very thin. poor quality for such expensive machine.

7 has been running perfectly since I installed it Jan. 2. Around Feb. 10 I noticed that I could not wake it from sleep, I would have to cut power, wait a bit, and then boot. When it boots however, it will prompt that it is "resuming windows" like it had been sleeping. All windows updates are installed and I have Panda Antivirus running along with Spybot (both show no infections or errors). I looked in the action center for errors and got the following message:

I think this is the problem, there were about 12 other listings of the error.

I'm not sure if it's just that my bios needs to be updated or what, so I'm just looking for any suggestions on what to do. (My bios hasn't been updated yet since the install of 7)

Some Specs:

MOBO is an ASUS P5WDG2 WS Professional
Dual Core 2.6ghz
6 gigs of RAM
8800GTS (driver version is 8.17.11.9621) aka 196.21
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (yeah, it's old)
[also I have a USB keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse that uses a USB dongle to connect]

Any help is appreciated!

I have done a Google search on this problem and have checked and re-checked all of my computer's sleep settings. All are set so as to enable mouse or keyboard wake up from sleep. I have checked my bios for any settings that would inhibit wake up from sleep.

Not only will my computer not wake up from sleep, but when I restart it after sleep (I must do a power off restart) it will not start properly. It prompts to resume Windows and then locks up. I can get out of this loop only by turning power off again. Other than this problem the computer works properly.

Hello, i have a problem with my Win10 system 1607 Ver
When the system goes sleep, my keyboard and mouse got disabled but the power lights still works, so i need to push the restart or shutdown button to restart the system to make the wake up.
How can i make that the keyboard and mouse get worked by clicking on them and wake up the system instead of pushing restart or power button?
Sorry for my English.

Answer:Windows 10 does not wake up after sleep

It is an overly discussed topic about the S3 sleep state. If your bios is not set for Legacy USB devices, the OS is allowed to shut down the USB hub, wireless mouse and keyboard. You are going to have problems waking the system out of S3 state.

Hi Guys,
would like some help/advice please. I have installed Win7 clean install on my computer, my problems is that if I leave mu computer for say 30+ minutes windows goes to sleep/hibernates and I find it hard to wake up normally have to reboot.

I have been through all the power management settings, and selected Never to all the selections in the advanced section, also in my power plan. I have even formatted my Drive and reinstalled win7 but still have the same problem.

When it is asleep, I have a halfmoon key on my keyboard, I have tried pressing this to wake it up but to no avail, also pressed the main power button, but this normally shuts it down.

Is there anything I can do to stop this happening, run a small program to keep it awake, or alter something in commands to stop it.

Your help and advice is really appreciated
Thanks and Regards
Bob

My computer will awake from sleep if it's in it for a short period of time. If it's been in sleep mode for a few hours, it won't wake up. I tried moving/clicking the mouse, pressing buttons on the keyboard. It won't even reboot/reset from the power on switch or the reset button. The only way to get it out of sleep is if I go and flip the power supply switch off and then on.

Answer:Windows 7 won't wake from sleep

Greetings, jkman.

You might try Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings - look at the settings there, such as Hard disk, Sleep, USB, etc., see if you can disable anything that appears to affect your symptoms.

That leads me to believe that there might be some extended power setting that's causing the freeze.

Hi

I've been searching for a while now trying to resolve this problem. There are loads of threads and I've tried loads of solutions like uninstalling and reinstalling drivers etc.

The situation I have is that Windows will sleep and wake perfectly fine if I use the remote that came with my TV tuner card but nothing else. If I try to wake it using the wireless USB keyboard I have it appears to power up but nothing happens. The power light goes from flashing to soluid but there doesn't appear to be any other movement. Equally when Windows Media Centre tries to wake to record it does the same thing.

Are there any suggestions of what I can try and what should I look at (and / or post here) to try and help debug?

Thank you in advance
Dean

Answer:Windows 7 won't wake up from Sleep

Dean,
Sometimes the batteries in my wireless mouse and keyboard go dead. Check those first.
I never have put my computer in sleep. I either use it or shut it off. IMO
Do a search in upper right hand corner for Windows Media problems.
Someone will probably be along to add other input so stay tuned.

Hi, I'm thinking to upgrade my HP Spectre x360 SSD drive to Samsung 960 EVO M.2.Just want to make sure that it will fit and will go smooth without any special problems. Thanks.

Answer:HP Spectre x360 - SSD Upgrade

The Manual kind of casually says it will support PCIe (Aka NVME) M.2 drives but of the service parts listed in the manual all are M.2 SATA disks. This is the 512 gig: 801504-001  So that is a SATA B + M module and the Evo 960 M.2 looks like this:  See the difference in the gold leads that plug into the motherboard (keys)...Yours is a 5th gen Intel Core platform and most of the laptops that will run PCIe M.2 disks are 6th and 7th generation so I say you likely will not be able to use the Samsung 960 Evo.  Manual see p. 20 If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as SOlution" to help others find it.

I have an HP Spectre x360 with a 2 year ADP coverage. I purchased the laptop in US... but I am currently employed and working in India. My screen has got damaged and needs to be replaced, but the local service center is unable to verify the ADP care pack details in India. I purchased this laptop after doing my research that the product is marketed in India and will be supported here. However, now the local tech support is saying that the Family name - pike1.0 not available in India and the laptop cannot be serviced even if the ADP is avaiable. As per the ADP contract, HP Support can courier the necessary parts to the local service center and my laptop can be serviced. How do i resolve this issue?

Answer:HP Spectre x360 LCD replacement

Hi, Yes, they say the true, many HP laptops asre localized that means HP local can only help you (a) Order part)s) from original country and repair it for you  or(b) You have to send machine back to the original country (in this case the US) for repair. Warranty or not, same rule. Please read (very similar to your case): ANSWER: You can call HP Customer Support or HP Authorized Support Providers for diagnostic purposes. If a hardware service is required, two alternatives can be offered: The part can be dispatched by HP Customer Support or the HP Authorized Support Partner within the border of the country where they are located. It is your responsibility to get the part from this location, move it to the PC, and to return the defective parts - when required - to the same location. Associated costs are your responsibility. The PC may be moved, under your responsibility and at your cost, to the closest country where HP has support presence, or any other country chosen by yourself (depending on the logistics network), in order to get access to the solution. When HP has no support presence in the country of use, all actions and costs required to gain warranty services are your responsibility. Source:   http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bpr01266 Regards,

I bought the HP Spectre x360 15" several months ago.  I never heard the fan come on even once until a few weeks ago.  I have done some updates from the HP site that were specific for my model Spectre.  There were so many that I couldn't even begin to guess which one did it, if any.  The fan comes on randomly, not dependent on what I have open from what I can tell.  I have it elevated on a rise with plenty of air flow underneath and have it plugged into the power cord when using.

Answer:Spectre x360 fan issues

Hello @casherman, Welcome back to the HP Forums! I understand that the fan is not working properly in your HP Spectre 15 Notebook. The new sound could be from dust build up in the fan area, even when elevated notebooks require the vents to be cleaned. Please go through these documents about the fan and computer performance to resolve the issue: HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than NormalHP Notebook PCs - Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent OverheatingHP PCs - Increasing System Performance and Maintaining Your Computer (Windows 10) If the issue persists even after the steps in these documents have been completed, try restoring the BIOS: HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS Make sure to let me and the community know the results! If the documents have helped you, click the thumbs up!

Hello, I have a HP Spectre x360 which is about 1 1/2 years old, bought in the UK (so annoyingly outside the 1 year warranty). A few days ago it stopped working. No damange, no software problems, no upgrades orf software updates. It simply wouldn't turn on. I've tried a hard reset and all the troubleshooting guides, but no joy. The small ac adaptor light does light up when i plug it it, but no response to the power button. This seems to be a known problem for this particular brand, but my only options appear to be to pay for a very expensive repair.  To me, this is simply unacceptable for a computer to break after such a short time, and with only infrequant usage. I can't find any number to call HP on without paying a large fee. I've tried the retailer, and the same thing. I can pay 60 for them to look at it and see what is wrong, but the chap at the store suggested it would probably cost much more than this to fix once I pay for labour and the parts.  Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this? Thanks.

Hello, I know this is an obscure topic but I noticed two scratches on the bezel (The polished metal) of my Hp Spectre X360.  To orient you, the scratches are not to far from the right side windows button and volume rocker.  The scratches are not deep due to not feeling an indent when I run my nail across them.  Also you can only see them in the most direct light.  Nevertheless they bother me.  Does anyone have any solutions as to how to remove those scratches at all?  I tried an extra fine scotch brite pad but was unsuccessful.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:HP Spectre x360 scratches

Did you ever figure out how to clean this? Or is it permanent?

I have exactly the same problem. I have bought my "Hp Spectre x360 13 inch, i7, ram 16, Hard 512 solid" less than a month ago from Bestbuy in NJ. From my first use, I found that it gets so hot after less than half a hours which my leg feels burning. I still didn't install a heavy program or compilers and I am using this laptop only for surfing the internet or writing text in the Microsoft word. Please help me for this issue.

Answer:Re: Spectre X360 Extremely hot

My Spectre was heating up during idle. I use RealTemp to monitor temperature and set alarm for 180F. It was hard to catch the culprit, because it stopped as soon as I moved the mouse or keyboard to check.  I finally used Process Monitor to track CPU during idle and discovered that it was Norton 360 which does aggressive system checking during idle. I like Norton and the way it checks and rates download executable files. Setting lower priority for Norton doesn't do anything and I don't really want to do that anyway. And I don't want to inhibit the system checking. So, now I leave my Spectre on my homemade vacuum pad during idle to solve that problem. *sigh* I need a way to throttle back aggressive programs as a function of temperature.

My HP Spectre x360 suddenly shut down and now refuses to switch on, whether or not connected to the charger. Even when connected to the charger, the small white/orange light is not switched on. It is showing absolutely no signs of life. I have tried a hard reset, holding the power button down, waiting for an extended period of time, all to no avail. It shut down whilst connected to the charger, and was not too hot. I bought the product in mid 2015 so the manufacter's warranty has run out, but according to others with similar issues, this is a design flaw. What's the best way to go about solving this issue?

Question: Spectre x360 noise

So I just  bought myself a Spectre x360 (13 inch, 8gb ram, 256 gb ssd, i5- 7200) a few days ago. Now the problem is that it makes an annoying electric like buzzing noise all the time. Watching a youtube video, scrolling a website or moving the mouse over any website, app or anything like that triggers it really.  From the research I did I believe it's coal whine. I found a few other with similar problems. For example: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Spectre-x360-Noise/td-p/5107394 Found this solution but it can't be applied anymore since we can't acces the cpu c4 function in the BIOS http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00965412 This noise is what I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIrkcDZn1G8 Anyhow, is this annyoing noise a case for every HP notebook, every x360? Or just a few?

Hello ,First I want to say that I tried contacting HP sales in 5pm they said that they are working from 8am to 2 am which is already a warning sign ...I am planning on buying HP Spectre x360 ash silver.I love how it looks and also the performance is really good for the money. My concern is that I have read so many complains of cracked screen from itself ( design flaw or uncalculated pressure on the screen or heating up too much , something is causing the screens to crack ...) Hp hasn't made official statement on this issue and so far I understood that the warranty doesn't cover it.I don't want to spend so much money on something that will break from itself and the warranty won't cover it.Is there someway to include this issue in the warranty before buying the laptop?

Hi I bought my HP Spectre x360 4002dx in October 2015 on Ebay in Australia.  Apparently this is an American model.  Anyway, it was working great up until the other day.  Now it refuses to power on at all.  I searched some forums and found out that this seems to be a common problem with this notebook model.  I paid a lot for this notebook and now I am less than 2 months out of warranty and it is a write off?  Does anyone have any advice about what I can do?  I chatted to tech support in Australia and he said to contact the US team. Thanks,MikeC5

Great laptop, put it through a lot of testing in my first weekend of owning it and I'm quite pleased overall. This issue has nothing to do with the laptop itself but rather the included sleeve, which I'm also pleased was included as other brands/models I checked out did not include a sleeve. However... it smells really awful.  I mean it's really an exceptionally terrible rubbery type odor.  And it's not as if it's only when I put my nose up to it or even handle it.  It can just be sitting a few feet away from me and I smell it.  I tried washing it by hand, figuring it's just an extreme example of factory chemicals or materials not being completely washed away before packaging.  This act may have reducded the smell by 20-25%, but the stench was still very noticeable so I put it through a wash in the washing machine.  Again, it's possible it's reduced the smell down to 50% of what it started as, but it's still pretty ridiculous how bad this thing smells. Has anyone had the same experience?  Have you had better luck in removing the smell?  I'm sure someone will suggest that it's free and maybe not worth the effort and therefore to just look into a different sleeve but I like it aside from the odor and would like to be able to keep it for some extra protection / padding even once I decide on a method for carrying the device around if possible.  But it will not be worth it if I can't get rid of the odor.

Hi, I bought a new HP spectre x360,For my job I need to run simulation trought OpenFOAM, so it's easyer for me to use Linux.  Nearly everything work out of the box, except one things... sound.  I post a bug on launchpad, here the link:Bug Hp spectre x360 It as nearly everything you need to debug the phenomena. I know that you don't officially suport linux on that computer, but it would be fun to be at least linux compatible. Thing I know:There was a bug that really look like this one on the Dell XPS 13. The bug was in the bios, wich was setting the sound card to alternative mode that was not working. I think is the same here. I need to find a way to tell the bios to load everything like if it is windows 8.1 (Yeah, I just ask no special treatement!)  Thank you,I will give all support you need. I really wish to correct this bug. PS: (HP if you correct this bug you will sell three more of those computer, they all want one in the lab!) Follow up:It's seem that we are now hable to use the lagacy mode from the sound card. It's good, but not perfect. The fix for the i2c will come soon, the latest kernel code ask about a mysterious drivers file that doesn't exist right now in the linux firmware directories. So, this case is close because the issue as been addressed. Follow the launchpad bug for furter improvement.  **SOLUTION MAY NOT BE THE SAME FOR YOUR DISTRIBUTION** From Spano: If you use gummiboot you should have somethi... Read more

I SOLVED IT! After hours of pain, i can now use the built in soundcard with headphones, as well as the internal speakers. HOW TO: Edit grub config by doing:'sudo vim /etc/default/grub' Edit the line:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash'" To:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'" Then run:'sudo update-grub' Reboot TWO times. BOOM! Sound works in headphones. The sound card is now in HDA mode (not I2S). To confirm, run:'aplay -l' and make sure you have the following in the output: 'card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC3242 Analog [ALC3242 Analog]  Subdevices: 0/1  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0'I'm running kernel Linux spectre 3.19.0-21-generic #21-Ubixuntu SMP on Ubuntu x64. BR,Ingmar  EDIT: Even the speakers are working, they were just muted in Alsamixer. Unfortunately our machine is 1 year + 1 month old and they won't give us a break on the repair. They estimate that it would be $300. I agree with many folks on this topic that this is a design issue and they need to do a recall instead of having their customers pay to replace the faulty parts.

I recently acquired an HP x360 Spectre 15t (about 5 days ago).  During charging I noticed that the charger plug is quite warm/hot.  Using a laser temp gun, I measured the hottest point of the plug to be 152F.  The average temp reading seems to run around 128F (scanning different points on plug). Is this normal for thie plug to be running at this temperature while charging? Thanks, WW
