I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a new Nokia 520 with Windows Phone 8.1. I linked it to my hotmail live account (Microsoft Account). I had to return the phone because it was faulty. They gave me a new one but my account was registered in the phone they gave me the first time. On my second phone i registered the same account and i changed the password so it could not be access from the original phone. To my surprise, the new phone never ask for the new password. I changed it from my pc, in my live hotmail account, and the phone just syncs up. How do i know the other phone isnt doing the same thing? I have a ton of photos, contacts on that account. How do i know its safe??

Answer:Why didn't my Hotmail Live Account on Windows Phone asking for a new password on my new phone?

You may be able to remove it as a listed device in the outlook.com website.
Other than that, you're reliant on whoever you returned the phone to having decent procedures to protect your privacy.

I have just got the Lumia 630 and set it up with the hotmail account but I would like to delete it and when pressing on the account from settings the only option I am getting is 'Sync'
Any ideas on how to delete this account?

Answer:Why can't I delete the Hotmail account from my Lumia 630?

As this is your primary account for your device, there's no way to delete it. At least not directly using your device. The only way to do that is from http://accounts.live.com
What you can do though is create a new account, hard reset your phone and use that newly created account. You should be aware though that whatever apps you've purchased on your old account will not be transferred to the new one.

Have a long-time friend who is almost totally computer illiterate to whom I provide tech support. He uses MSN Explorer (MSNE) thru Verizon.net, which has been free up 'til now, but beginning March 1, 2012, Verizon is dropping it. I advised him to drop MSNE and switch to FREE Outlook Express (computer OS is XP) or Thunderbird. But as you might expect, he is averse to change. . . ANY change. To keep MSNE, he had to subscribe to it and pay the $9.95 annual fee for the basic version, which he did today.

However, he has apparently also had, but never used, a Hotmail address, and on the MSNE e-mail page, it shows in the left panel like a separate account. He wants to remove it from MSNE. I know nothing about MSNE; am used to Outlook Express and Thunderbird, both of which have simple access to accounts, including deleting them. I can find nothing in MSNE about deleting the Hotmail account.

So how can he delete the link to his Hotmail account?

Hi,

I'm a still-learning, self-taught, fairly new, computer student. I have a problem with an email that I received in my inbox on my hotmail account from a ?friend? recently. The subject line reads...Fwd: Fwd: Angels....size 617K. When I clicked the open box, I got a firewall alert (Norton) that instance of confidential info "block bank account" had occurred. I then tried to delete the email and got the same alert and then again when I tried to move to another folder within hotmail. After reading the email listed above it in the inbox and deleting that one...this email opened...had an attachment titled "application thingsar.pps". I did not open the attachment but tried to delete on the page and once again got the same firewall confidential info alert. I just can't seem to make it go away!!! I thought about disabling my firewall until I delete it...but if it's blocking access to my personal conf. info....seemed like a bad idea.

I also had another strange incident involving the sender of this particular email and my hotmail inbox a short while back. I received an email in my inbox addressed to him...??????????? Always wondered how that happened!! Any input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is an awesome site and forum!!!! Thanks!!!!!

Good Day Everyone a few hours ago, I just finished installing Windows Professional x32 and had a problem with deleting the windows.old because of the permission bug.

Well I managed to delete the Windows.old by editing my security and user however when I log-offed, I saw another user account that I think I've mistakenly made while editing the security in the properties of a folder in windows.old.

My problem is, the delete function GONE!

The mistakenly made user is Administrator.
When I logged in Administrator, a pop-up appeared saying that it is a temporary user account.

I really want to delete it, It's a nuisance every time I log-in and takes some space.

Can anyone help me regarding this? I will appreciate it greatly.

Answer:Delete Account Function Missing I Cannot Delete Temporary User Account

Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

This account is not able to be deleted. It is built in and has EVERY permission by default so you don't need to take ownership.

It is used to rescue your computer from viruses using Safe Mode, etc.

I have a IMAP Hotmail account running on Outlook 2007 and suddenly it doesn't delete emails when I use the delete function on the toolbar and only sometimes deletes when I use the keyboard delete key, only then after going to another folder and coming back to my in box. I have tried running Account Setting again, even reloading my account. I used my Office 2007 disc to delete Outlook and reload it and still the problem persists. I have used Outlook 2007 and Hotmail for years without this problem. Has Windows 10 done something in an update that might cause this or what else could be my problem?

Hey how's it going everyone ? I have had my hotmail address for over 10 years. It has everyting in it my credit card, banking info, personal information, address, drivers lisense picture, sentimental email. A couple of night s ago.I had signed in. Then I was trying to sign into my xbox and use my hotmail address, all of a sudden it said that microsoft account does not exist. I havn't been able to log in since it's been 3 or 4 days now. I have contacted hotmail they can't help me because I'm not a paying member. It looks to me like someone hacked my account and deleted it. If anyone knows what happened to my account or has any ideas on if or how I can bet it back it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:microsoft says my hotmail account does not exist. In dire need of help!

1.
When was the last time you accessed your account?
If you haven't signed in for the last 270 days, your account has been marked as inactive.

Please be informed that free Windows Live Hotmail accounts become inactive if you don't sign in for more than 270 days or within the first 10 days after signing up for an account.
After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted.
Incoming messages will be sent back to the sender as undeliverable.

Your account name is still reserved. However, if the account stays inactive for an additional 90 days, the account name may be permanently deleted. If you don't use your Windows Live ID for 365 days, your Windows Live ID may be permanently deleted.

I believe you can provide the affected email address on a private thread so the "powers that be" can investigate the account on their end.

2.
BTW
Were you aware that Hotmail is currently upgrading to Outlook.com?
Is it just possible your Hotmail account is now an Outlook.com account?

Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, locked me out of my Hotmail email account, claiming someone has hacked into it and I need to prove to them that I am the real owner of that account. After filling out the forms they sent to me, requiring subject line detail of recent emails and recent email addresses of people I wrote, they sent me another email to my new Outlook account stating that they have given me back access to my old Hotmail account.

Now, how do I get that valuable information I had in my old Hotmail account and where is it? It is not in my new Outlook email account. I use Windows XP operating system.

Thank you,

In a posting on the Windows Team blog, Microsoft has announced two new functions aimed at enabling Hotmail users to recover their accounts should they be taken over by criminals. Previously, an attacker who had obtained a user's password via phishing, a trojan or unencrypted Wi-Fi could lock the user out of their account simply by changing the password. Unless the actual user had entered an alternative e-mail address for a password reset and had remembered the security question, there was no way of reclaiming the account.

Microsoft has now introduced the ability to have a password reset code sent via SMS, allowing users to regain control of their accounts. This does, however, require the user to have entered their mobile number prior to having their account taken over. The SMS message contains a code which can be entered on the Microsoft web site to reset the account's password.
Microsoft has also introduced a "Trusted PC" function which links a specific PC to the Hotmail account, allowing it to be used to reset the password without requiring the actual password. These functions are also useful for the absent-minded.

To prevent the bad guys from simply changing these new options, they can only be changed in combination with the other options. To change the mobile phone number, for example, the user has to give their consent through one of the other options (email, Trusted PC or security question). Microsoft has also announced that the entire Hotmail session wil... Read more

Answer:Microsoft Hotmail gets account theft protection

Hi Reghakr, That sounds great - but I've faced an entirely different situation that could potentially be the 'next big thing' in 'free email account abuse'
Imagine this: My Hotmail account had been around for a few years, and hence the address was fairly much in the public realm. When one day out of the blue I tried to log in and got the notice, "too many failed attempts to log-in - please try later"
Hmm~ well interesting because I was at work and hadn't attempted to login at all. I hadn't lost or forgotten my password. I waited the 24 hours MSN support suggested to no avail. Still locked out.
My guess - some script kiddy has probably tried to hack the account to gain access. OR some looser neighbor has acquired my email address and while they eat tea attempts to enter random passwords just to keep the account locked.

So... that means anyone who knows my email address can simply just attempt to login and lock my damn account (and keep it locked) I would prefer to have my account hacked and have them send mail on my behalf than to have some random have me locked out indefinitely.
Oh BTW going through the security option to change the password works, but the account still persists to be locked.
This would easily be scripted to harvest accounts and attempt logins NOT to gain access but to REDUCE access.

Answer:Why can't I delete my Facebook account off my friends phone?

If you logged in via the app, try reinstalling it. If you logged in via the people hub (on WP8.0), you may want to try going through settings>email+accounts, and go through the necessary processes there.
If you fail, there's always the matter of the soft reset then hard reset, should the former fail as well.

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

Yesterday my mobile was stolen and i've tried to lock my mobile through Microsoft account, but when i click lock my phone option it can't lock... Now what i have to do for lock my phone?

Answer:How do I lock my phone through my Microsoft account?

If it's been stolen, then the chances are that the SIM has been removed and the thief has factory reset the device. All you can really do is contact the relevant authorities (police, insurance, service provider) and inform them of the loss and obtain a replacement.
If your phone wasn't protected by a PIN, you'll need to monitor activity on any of the accounts/apps you had on the phone in case there is an attempt at fraud/identity theft. You might also want to change any relevant passwords.

This is an awkward one to test when you don't know what will happen, so I thought I would ask first....

Assume a User has a Microsoft Account (Outlook.com) and uses this to login to a PC, Laptop and perhaps other devices. The User wants to retain the MS Account but no longer wishes to use the Account to login to the PC but chooses to use a Local Account instead. If the User deletes the MS Account on the PC will this have any impact on the Account itself or the User's ability to use the Account to login to the other devices?

Hi - I hope this is the right place for this, I did not see a Windows 8 Phone forum...

I have an HTC PMM23300 phone on TMobile. I've been trying for weeks to get it to sign in to my Microsoft account. But whenever I try, it tells me "Can't Connect. We're having a problem signing in. Make sure you have good reception. If you do, the problem may be on the other end. Wait a little while and try again."

Well... I've certainly tried waiting. I've tried resetting the phone. I've tried resetting the phone to factory settings in case it is in a "bad state" as Microsoft suggests... but still no go. It does it on WiFi and on cell data.

Anyone have any suggestions to help? I like the phone, but I'm ready to get rid of it and go back to an iPhone... things shouldn't be this hard.

Thanks in advance!

My friends received junk mail sent from me recently. This happened before, on January and April this year.
It could be that my account is compromised. So on January after the first round of junk mail, I turn-on 2 steps verification. And I changed my password to a new 15+ characters long with random alphabet, number and symbol password. It took me a few hours just to remember it. And this passowrd is not used else where.
It happened again on April, and I changed my password again.
Now on September, it happened again. Sure I changed my password but what if this is not about my password!
So my guess would be that I have allowed rogue apps or websites to access either my outlook.com account or my Lumia 1520. Now what i have to do to prevent this is to uninstall those apps, block their access to my phone and my outlook.com account
With Facebook, I can see a list of apps that I allow to access my facebook in facebook account setting.
With Gmail, I can do the same.
But I can't seem to find the way to do this on outlook.com or lumia 1520
So my question would be ..
1. How can I figure which app or website have access to my outlook.com address book?
2. How can I figure which app or website have access to my Lumia 1520 address book?
Thank you.

Answer:Which app have access to my Phone or outlook.com or Microsoft account?

I may be incorrect with this information but as far as I know an app cannot access your MS account. It can access your contact list so if you put your own data in there then obviously it can get that.
It's possible your account was compromised another way and once your contact list and your email is captured they don't need your password to send junk email to your friends, only your email address.
What a lot of people don't understand that to send emails with someone else's email address is fairly simple once you have their email address.

When I originally got my windows 8 phone, I added my school's email account (which is a microsoft account) to the phone. Recently, I haven't been able to sign into my Microsoft Account on my phone. It always tells me "MICROSOFT ACCOUNT PASSWORD INCORRECT" even though I use the same account name and password to sign in to my email, and it works perfectly. Why is this happening? And I can't change the damn account without resetting the entire phone? ****.

Answer:Why can't I sign into my Microsoft Account on my HTC 8x Windows 8 Phone?

Try going to Your Microsoft Account on a PC Browser and see if you can log in there.
If your account continues to throw errors on your HTC 8x, you can use the "Forgot Password" or Change Password options in the PC Browser and then reestablish with the new password on your 8x.

Hi all,

If I start to use a Microsoft account in Windows 10, so I can use better the store and all the option related to it, but someone steal my pc and steal my telephone card, this "someone" could have access to my Windows 10 by using my mobile number recovering my password?

Sorry for my english.

PS: if I start use the Store without a Microsoft account what are the things I lose?

Answer:Microsoft account and phone number linked

Microsoft sends a text to the phone number with a code that you then have to enter to recover your password. They have to be able to receive the actual text message, not just have the phone number.

I somehow acquired 2 Microsoft accounts with the same email. When I login to my account I get the message that I have 2 accounts associated with this email: A "Work,/school account created by my IT dept" & a "Personal account" The first choice never happened because I never had a personal work email & I've been retired for 11 yrs. If I click on the Personal account I get into my usual account with my Onedrive info etc. If i select the other one (school etc) it takes me to a site called "MSCOM-SiteMuse" & presents another login page with my my email filled in & underneath that a password request. If I click on "can't access my account" I get an error that that username (the email) does not exist even though the initial page told me that 2 accounts were associated with it. BTW when I check "MSCOM-SiteMuse" on Google it appears to be some kind of developer site. I just want to delete this phony account.

No matter what I do I cannot long in with my Microsoft online account. The phone says the password is wrong, which it isn't.

Hello guys.
About 2 months ago I upgraded my lumia 640 XL and at first it worked just fine, no problems at all.
After a few days it started giving me errors whenever I wanted to download any app or log into my microsoft account in any app that requires that. (except the ones which I had logged in before the problem occurred.)
Every time I turn my phone on, it tells me that my account needs to be fixed, but when I click on it to fix it, I get the same error.
Error: 0x80190005
When I click get to download the app (or other things with the same problem) first a black screen shows up which with these words: "just a moment" and after a long time waiting I get this error and nothing happens.
I really don't know what's wrong.

I had to reset my Windows Phone. During setup I have to enter a Microsoft account (I used my @Outlook.com account). After setup finishes I see that my emails and calendar are completely synced. Perfect. But people (contacts) are not and the app requests to add an account. When I try to add the @Outlook.com account I get a message that the account already exists.
When I go to Settings | Email + Account and I click on the existing Microsoft Account I see Content to sync: Email. There are no other options to sync calendar, contacts or tasks.
How can I get the contacts of my @Outlook.com account to sync on my WIndows 8 Phone?

The only way is to hard reset, which wipes your data and then put in a new Msft Acct during setup.
Instead... Go to the Microsoft Account Log In page from a PC and use the forgot password option. Have the reset sent to your email. Reset the password... Then your phone will tell you your Msft Acct needs attention when you try to sync and it will let you put in the new password.

Hello.

I've been using Windows 10 for weeks. Until today, it started up just fine by displaying my name and no email address. This is exactly how I want it to be.

Today when Win 10 would not recognize a printer, in order to download an "app" to help with this, I was required to provide a Microsoft email account, which I did (an old Hotmail account I rarely use). Now when I restart or wake up the computer, that old Hotmail account appears as "Administrator". However, I do NOT want that old Hotmail email address associated with this computer.

How can I remove it and get back to logging in with NO associated email address?

NOTE: I do not want to delete the old Hotmail account; just want to remove it from my Windows 10 "Account" menu (My name + Hotmail address + "Administrator").

In case it's required to associate Win 10 with an email address, I use Windows Live Essentials with a company email address. I tried adding it via the "Other Account" option, but Win 10 said it did not recognize the email address I entered, sigh.

I saw threads with a similar question but not quite the same.

Thanks for any help!

you would of had to enable backup on the phone so that when you migrate and you are setting up your new phone, you would get an optioin to restore your phone from a previous backup instead of a fresh new phone. the other option is to go to the app store via your phone, then got to the elipses then tap on 'my apps'... from there you can scroll through and manually select the apps you want reinstalled

I bought a new laptop and it arrived yesterday. It runs Windows 8.1
I tried to log into my microsoft account, but it kept coming up with the error code 0xd0000072 and said it wasn;t able to switch from my local account to my microsoft account.
After googling it, I tried different options, such as flushing out the proxy even though I don't run on proxy, I disabled McAfee to make sure it wasn't the firewall, I signed into live and removed all trusted devices, I tried downloading the troubleshooter, which
told me my problem was that I didn't have a Microsoft account - super helpful.
Nothing seems to be working.
I then went on to trying to make a new microsoft account, but the error code still came up after all that hassle too.
I eventually called it a night and decided I could probably just get by without it, however, when I tried to download software to install my printer, it wouldn't let me because I cannot seem to log in to my Microsoft account.
Can anyone help?

Hello,
Is it possible to prevent a user from being able to use "Connect to a Microsoft account" from the OneDrive Settings under File Storage?
We are deploying Windows 8.1 Enterprise in a Corporate Environment and do not want to be able to connect Domain Accounts with Microsoft accounts.
I have applied the GPO Setting
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Options > Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts = Users cant add or log on with Microsoft accounts
However this has not disabled the option to join a Microsoft Account from the OneDrive Settings. It has disabled the option from the Accounts settings however.
Any advise appreciated

Answer:Prevent connecting Microsoft account to Domain account from OneDrive settings

Hello Lee Bowman,
Based on my test, I use the following steps to block the Microsoft account:
1. Open Group Policy Management Editor
2. Go to Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options> Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts.
3. In the drop-down menu, select Users can?t add or log in with Microsoft accounts
After applying the Group policy , I still can?t use the OneDrive to add Microsoft account.
When I try to add the Microsoft account, I will get the following message.
