WiFi Cannot detect any network when I join the Laptop in domain, It works fine when back to workgroup

Question: WiFi Cannot detect any network when I join the Laptop in domain, It works fine when back to workgroup

Hello Every One
I have the admin laptop and it works fine except the wireless. The wireless works fine if i take it out from the domain and join the workgroup.

I have used the domain admin account and the machine local admin account and it does not work.
The hardware is OK and seems enabled with no problem except it does not see any wifi network.
The Laptop run Win 7 Pro.
Best Regards

Preferred Solution: WiFi Cannot detect any network when I join the Laptop in domain, It works fine when back to workgroup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

PCs are Win 7 Ultimate, All are joined to the Domain
Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP Server (on same instance) is Server 2012 standard
The network topology is like this: Router as Internet Gateway>Switch>Wired to Server and PC's, SIP phones, and Wireless Access Point all on same subnet. DNS and DHCP have been offloaded to Server Roles and switched off on the router.
All of the PCs have network cards that have joined the domain network at least some of the time since I set them up.
Some of them have always picked up the domain network and continue to this day.
Some of them intermittently pick up the domain network and other times join whatever other unmanaged network is available.
Some of them have stopped picking up the domain network altogether and will, no matter how many times their NICs are restarted, always join a non-domain (unmanaged) network.
When the NICs are not joining the domain, they are unable to ping hostnames of any devices on the network but nslookup of the hostnames usually works. The DC, DNS, DHCP server's IP can be pinged without issue, ipv4 or ipv6.
I am recording DNS Client Errors (ID 1014) on all of the PCs during the intervals when their NICs are identifying which network to join.

-On the PCs that are catching the domain network I am only getting a single error about the root domain, eg the domain is ad.domain.com and I am only getting errors about how the configured DNS servers cannot resolve domain.com (nothing with fully qualified

Hi, all! Never seen this before. Box is XP/Pro, SP2, latest patches and such. Logged in as Administrator.

Went into System applet in Control Panel, then Computer Name tab to join a machine to the domain, and both Workgroup and Domain options in the "Member of" frameset are greyed out! The Network ID button is also greyed out...

Never seen this before!! Suggestions?

Thanks!

Recently I performed a reinstallation of windows on my laptop. Normally I had no problems with the wireless, but after the reinstallation my laptop refuses to acknowledge that there are wireless networks. When I'm not connected to the internet, it asks to connect using a wire connection only.

I have a Dell Inspiron iM101z running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I downloaded all the drivers for what the Dell website told me my laptop model was, a Dell Inspiron 1121. Attached is a picture showing the oddities of my problem. The icon on the taskbar shows that I have to connect with an ethernet cord; no wireless icon is shown.

If I try to unplug the ethernet cable and connect to the internet, I only get the option to do a broadband connection. Also, once I unplug the cable, I get "no connections available."

Answer:Laptop refuses to detect anything wireless, ethernet works fine

Most likely this is still a driver problem.

Hey,
My desktop is connected to my router via cable. And it randomly gets disconnected from time to time. I've tried re-installing drivers. I get the red X on my network icon in the taskbar, which usually happens when a cable is unplugged. I fixes it self after a minute or 2, its never longer than 1 minute, usually 10-15 seconds, and it happens ever 10-15 minutes.

My wifi works fine, and I have a vonage box connected to my main router which works fine too. It's just my desktop. I've tried different ports, same problem.

I'm heading home in a few hours and I've picked up a new 5 meter cable to check with.

What else could be the problem if the new cable doesn't fix it.

My network adapter is the on baord one on the Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks.

Answer:Network randomly disconnecting. Wifi works fine.

Seems to be something wrong within the cable or could be the network card within your pc? Did you try the cable on any other pc or that?

So I am attempting to connect to the wifi network at my girlfriends place, which I have done fine previously, but my laptop cant find it at all. I have tried restrarting my laptop, installing new drivers for the atheros wireless adaptor, resetting the router, but it still wont show up. It connects fine to other (older and newer) devices, and works fine when connected via ethernet cable, but it is hardly practical to sit on top of the router all day.

My laptop detects other networks fine, such as those of the neighbors and connects to my own home network fine. I have also tried deleting the saved network and manually connecting to the network while also checking the box about connecting even if the network is not broadcasting its SSID. Still nothing. I also checked power management settings and made sure it the network adaptor was using max performance power settings.

Previously when I set up their router, it was broadcasting on a single channel between 1 and 11, cant remember exactly which, and I have no reason to believe they have changed it.

Answer:Cant find specific Wifi Network but works fine with other devices.

connect by ethernet and have a look at the name and channel- it could be using channel 12 or 13 which is allowed outside the US but your PC is using channels 1-11 if US based setting

look at the SSID name and if indeed set to broadcast

I have seen that issue a few times - although xirrus usually shows the channel

all those signals are very low

whats the name of the wireless signal at your girlfriends
and where is that xirrus screen shot from - your girlfriends ?

I have a Win 7 system. Everything was working, until a few days ago, and then the Ethernet connection stopped. The activity LEDs work, but the Ethernet will not connect. The Wifi works fine through the same router as the Ethernet is plugged into.

Here is what I did so far.Rebooted PC (full power cycle)
Rebooted router
MSCONFIG to disable all unknown services and apps
Replaced Ethernet cable
Tried a different port
Confirmed Ethernet driver is latest version
Deleted Ethernet driver anyway and reinstalled
Reset IP Stack
Set TCP/IPv4 to static IP and defined the DNS server
Confirmed the adapter's advanced settings were correct
Connected to a USB Ethernet adapter that I know works (and has worked before on this PC)

Nothing I did in the above list worked - Ethernet does not connect. The activity LEDs are working. The Network Connections shows a plugged-in Ethernet as an Unidentified Network.

Here is the IPCONFIG/ALL

Have an Asus ultrabook laptop with an Atheros 9485WB-EB wifi/BT adapter. When I'm away from home, it works perfectly. At home, it sees our home network but refuses to connect to it - just get a cannot connect error.

It used to work fine, and then it's gradually gotten worse. At first rebooting the laptop would make it work for a while, then that quit working. Now it's just non-fuctional at home.

Home wifi works fine with other devices as well, and if I plug a USB wifi adapter into the laptop that works too.

Home router is (I forget the model, have to look when I get home) running dd-wrt. Rebooting the router doesn't fix the problem.

Any idea what would make it quit? No setting have been changed on the router during all this.

She moved out recently and her and her roommate would like to share a printer and become part of the same workgroup so they can view eachother's shared folders. I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. i JUST finished doing a total format and install of windowsXP home....

and the FIRST thing I do, right after installing the basic display drivers etc. Is run the networking wizard.

I join the workgroup my desktop is on, go to "view all workgroup computers" and get an error saying blahblah is not accessible!!!!!

HOW can this be, the laptop is empty! what else can cause a computer to do this?!?!

Answer:Brand new empty laptop already cant join workgroup

Run it again, and just leave it for half an hour or so to stabilise with all the computers in the network on. Run the wizard on them as well.

Also, if you have a firewall other than windows firewall, turn off windows firewall. I assume you don't however having just reformatted.

Friend bought an Acer laptop E5-575-54SM Intel i5-6200U; Windows 10 Home; 4GB RAM; 1TB; WiFi featuring MU-MIMO.

When I connected it to his WiFi network it was very slow. I ran a speedtest. It only gets 1 Mbps where it should be 20 Mbps.

I connected my iPhone to the network but got the same results. So, I assumed it was a problem with the WiFi. However, a different laptop (Toshiba) does get the 20 Mbps speed via WiFi.

Well, that is just not possible.
Since my iPhone was also slow, I know the problem is with the network.
But, since the old Toshiba laptop connects fine, the DSL modem and WiFi router are okay.

Two days later, the new Acer was running fine on the network, only to come to a crawl today.

I am stumped.

So this has been going on for a few months. I have an HP DV6-7029wm laptop that will only get around 3.3Mbps over wifi. I have Uverse with the 20Mbps plan. Now here is what I have tried and nothing has fixed it.

Had Win 8.1 - Did fresh install to Win 7
Have tried 3 different versions of the Atheros 9485 Chipset Driver
Have swapped wifi adapters from daughters laptop
Disabled wifi security
Turned off Windows Firewall
AT&T swapped out my old gateway for the newest one they have

Now thinking it might be issues between my laptop and uverse gateway, I setup a Hotspot on my Galaxy S5 and used my phones LTE connection and was still only getting around 3.3Mbps. Now my phone will pull upwards of 25Mbps on LTE and the full 20 on my UVerse wifi.

Now the one that confuses me is I have a Cisco USB wifi adapter that I tried. And even with the USB adapter Im still only getting 3.3Mbps.

Any Ideas?

Hello all, I have this J8B81PA#ACJ product named laptop, I had this wifi issue since I have been using the laptop but then I installed updated drivers on Win 8.1 and wifi issue was resolved. Later when upgraded to Win10, the issue began like Wifi signals disappear or suddenly my wifi network doesnt appear at all. After few days updating the drivers from MS resolved this. It has been quite a while and again this issue has begun, my wifi network doesnt appear even if I connect wifi adapter to it the network doesnt show up, whereas all my near by networks are available. I even tried resetting my wifi router to see if my Wifi router has some issues but the problem seems to be in laptop itself. Currently, I either need to use the internet by LAN or by USB/Bluetooth tethering from my Android mobile. Hereby, I look for a final solution to this recurring problem of Wifi. Kindly let me know inputs needed from my side.   Hoping for a help. Thanks in advance! Nirmal

I did a fresh install of WinXP Pro on a PC. I want to join that PC to a domain on an NT 4.0 network.

I have a user name login screen where I enter the password. However, when I go to Control Panel, System, Computer Name, and click on the join a Domain button, and I enter the user ID and password, I get a message that I cannot join the domain because duplicate names or shares are not allowed, etc.

Do I need to delete the Windows logon name and password before I can join the PC to the NT 4.0 domain?

I don't understand why the PC can't join the domain when I enter a valid user name and password, and enter the correct domain name.

Does the work group name have to be different from the domain name?

Help!

Answer:Join a domain in Win XP Pro on NT 4.0 network

Try deleting the machine name on the PDC and entering a differant one, change the machine name on the XP box to the new one. Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Server Manager on the NT box.

Hello all.

After much frustration it is time to ask for help. I am trying to join my computer to a test domain controller so that i can set up directaccess.
Here is the setup:
Windows Server 2012 with Directaccess and VPN enabled
2012 server is joined to a Windows 2008 R2 Domain controller that has DNS and DHCP installed
All firewalls have been disabled and the computer is open to all ports and connections.

Testing two client computers running Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Windows 10 enterprise evaluation.
Both computers have been set to use the 2008R2 DNS server

I can successfully connect to the server via VPN and map network drives.

If i go to join the computer to the domain i type in the top level domain and IT PROMPTS for the network username and password. I type it in, and after about 30 seconds it says Cannot join the domain mydomain.com Network Path Not Found.

I'm not sure what i am doing wrong as it sees the server because it's prompting for the credentials, but then cannot complete the connection.

Any help is greatly appreciated, banging my head on the desk for a couple hours didn't help.

Answer:Cannot Join domain over VPN: Network path not found

This issue was resolved by ticking the option to use the default gateway on remote network. Joined the PC to domain, then went back and unchecked the box.

Once joined the computer had no problem using the VPN at the login screen and logging in as any user in Active Directory.

I just made a custom Windows 7 computer image for my company with all the bells and whistles that I've learned from this site and the Microsoft security forums. However, I went to join it to the domain and I get the following message:

"the following error occured when attempting to join the domain.....; the network location cannot be reached"

-I am trying to add it to a server 2k3 domain
-I can ping IP and FQDN of DC
-can add other windows 7 machines to domain
-can add XP machines with similar security settings

I firmly believe that it is a registry edit I have made or a gpedit that I made, I'm just really not sure which one and it seems like I tried changing all the major ones back as a troubleshooting step.

I really don't know what to try next

Answer:Network location cannot be reached when attempting to join domain

This sometimes requires that you change the lanman server parimeters in order to get Windows 7 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 7 machines that need to connect to the server. The default settings can be different depending which version of Windows 7 is being used.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Hi,

I have a problem with accessing shared resources over my home network. I have a windows vista desktop and xp laptop. I was able to share drives and printers before and for some reason can't anymore. I did change ISP's and appear to have started having issues since around that time, I checked with them and there are no settings on the router that would cause this.
Desktop connects via wired connection to my wireless router. Laptop connects via wireless connection. I tried the resetting of IP settings as suggested in another post on the vista pc with no result. When I try to access from xp in network places under view workgroup computers, it things for a minute and says that my network name is not accessible and that I may not have permission...

I have been fighting with this on and off for some time and can't see what is wrong at all. Can someone pls let me know if there is a simple solution to this?

I am a homegrown pc tech and hate not being able to solve this type of problem.. : )

Thanks,

Hi - I have a PC loaded with XP pro that I had been using at work that I now have given to my daughter for use at home. At home, I have a workgroup network established - so I wanted to remove the domain requirement from the logon on this computer so I went ahead and changed the network ID using the Network ID Wizard (System properties -- right click off "My Computer")- in retrospect , I think this was a big mistake. I chose the option that said "This computer is for home use and is not part of a business network".
I restarted my computer and now I cannot get passed the XP Pro Logon screen. I do know the original Admin password, but it keeps saying it will not take it. It no longer gives me the option to enter a domain when I login.
Is there anything I can do to get access back into the machine? Anyone, please HELP! Thanks!

Once a machine is set up as a domain server, can it be changed to a standard peer-to-peer workgroup computer or does tha OS have to be reloaded from scratch.

Answer:Converting Domain network to Workgroup

It can be converted, I believe it's pretty simple for Server 2000 or 2003. As I recall, it was much more difficult with NT Server.

I tried all the advice on the forums, I can ping the domain controller and get to the internet.  The domain controller request a username and password then I get the error.  The computer stopped being able to connect to the domain, I removed the
computer account and I tried to re add it but cannot.  It keeps giving me the same error.
If I try to connect to a share \\ip address\share it gives me an error as well.
I tried deleted the IP6 to 4 devices, but nothing is working, I do not want to rebuild this laptop.

Hi, i resolved this exact same issue by making sure the following was ticked in the NIC properties

- client for microsoft networks

After ticking the above the machine then joined the domain

hope this helps?

Hi folks

Hope somebody can help me here.
I'm in charge of our present network here at work, however i'm no geek (no offense), only just manage to somehow keep it running
The network is setup with a Domain server (NT4) and all of the PC's that are in it are either XP Pro SP1 or SP2.
My problem is actually allowing laptop PC's outside of the Domain (in say a Workgroup) to use printers inside of the Domain.
PCs with the original version of WinXP Pro SP1 installed can be seen and also the printers by the Laptops.
PCs with WinXP Pro SP2 installed can be seen but I am unable to see the printers. from the Laptops, WHY???
Laptops are connecting via a wireless connection and are able to surf the internet.
Hope this makes sense to someone and you are able to help me here.

Thanks inadvance

I'm trying to reach my network disk (a portable disk connected using USB to an ASUS AC2400 router/ ASUS RT-AC87U).

I am able to reach the network disk using other devices (like my smartphone), so it is working properly.

When I try to reach it using my work computer (which is a domain computer), I am unable to connect to the network disk.
I've tried these things already with following result:

When I ping the IP-address of the device or the device name, I get a reply and in case of the device name, I also get the correct ip-address
When activating the media server on the asus router, I am able to reach it (sometimes) on my computer.
I am able to reach other NAS servers (at my parents home, I was able to reach the NAS using the IP-address)
using nbtstat I can see that the device is broadcasting its name
I've tried many other things, but am so far unable to reach this network disk.

In the web user interface of the ASUS router it is called the: 'USB Application - Network Place (Samba) Share / Cloud Disk'
I activated/deactivated following options:

Allow guest login --> NO

Work Group --> workgroup

Enable SMB2 protocol (default: No) --> NO

Simpler share naming (without the disk name) --> YES

Force as Master Browser --> NO
Set as WINS server --> NO
NTFS Sparse Files Support --> Enabled

Is it possible to Network share an encrypted file on a workgroup (non-domain) based network running Windows XP Pro SP2? If so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is what I have done so far:

Computer1
------------
Windows XP Pro SP2
User name: user1

There are two files:
C:\Shared Files\Non Encrypted Files\NEF.txt
C:\Shared Files\Encrypted Files\EF.txt

The C:\Shared Files directory is network shared as SharedFiles.

The directory C:\Shared Files\Encrypted Files has been encrypted as well as all subdirectories and files within.

I added the Encrypting File System certificate for user1 on Computer2 to the file C:\Shared Files\Encrypted Files\EF.txt.

Computer2
-------------
Windows XP Pro SP2
User name: user1

Mapped the S: drive to \\Computer1\SharedFiles

I am able to open S:\Non Encrypted Files\NEF.txt via notepad without an issue.

When trying to open S:\Encrypted Files\EF.txt via notepad I get a popup titled "Notepad" with "Access is denied." in it.

Hi

From my laptop I need access to 2 different "networks":

(A) I access a Workgroup within Microsoft Windows Network (I have the correct Workgroup name) to get access to printers and other computers at work.

(B) I sometimes run VPN to "log" in the domain at my university (necessary for Email clients).

(A) works when I start my laptop. But if I open the VPN connection and then close it, (A) does not work anymore most of the time.

I run Windows XP Professional without the "simple file sharing" option.

Anyone can help? Many thanks!

Dear Community,

My company use around 700 desktops and laptops on a domain. our file server has a home share drive that the AD links to and then maps when a user logs onto any machine when using their domain account. my problem when I log onto my normal laptop
it says network name is no longer available. when I log onto another machine it connects and maps normally. all other servers UNC name works normally. I can ping it by DNS and IP and can RDP to it but not see any shares.

Please can you help?

Can you setup a laptop to be on a domain for work then log in with a different profile and have it automatically set for a home workgroup at home ? Then vice versa go back to work and click on profile for domain?

Thanks.

Answer:Setting up laptop for both domain and workgroup

No. Why?

Options:

Use the same domain account from home & work. When not connected to the work network it will authenticate you using cached credentials.

When at work, log into the domain. When at home, log into the laptop as local user.

Hello,
I'm in need of some desperate help. I'm an IT guy for a small architectural firm. My boss has a XP pro laptop that logins to a domain here at work. He wants to be able to go home and use print and file sharing, without having to log out of the domain and login in locally. From the research I've done, Microsoft says you cannot bring a domain into a workgroup. I understand that. I've also found some interesting ways to get around this.

I've tried setting the workgroup to the same name as the domain. I was then able to see the other PCs, but not beyond that. Next, I tried setting up a local user account on all the other PCs, with the same name and pass as his laptop. I was then able to use the shared printer, but still cannot access the shared files on other PCs. But I can see the directories. I've gone through all the settings and file and print sharing settings I can think of. Both networks are working off DHCP, and the entire network at home is wireless. I've also tried all this with the XP firewall off. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere.

With so many people with laptops at work, I can't believe that there is not a solution yet for them to come home and connect to their home networks. There has to be some way of doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm using an my office laptop (Win 2000) which is a member of a Domain at work at home on a wireless network where the other computers are on a workgroup.

I can access the internet, and ping the other computers on the home network. I cannot browse the workgroup, share files or printers on the home workgroup.

I understand this maybe due to the domain set up on my office laptop, but the guys at work have discouraged me from changing the domain settings.

Is there anyway I can share files and use the printers at home from my wireless network on my office laptop?

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me?
I have just moved house and been given the internet details by the landlord.
The provider is Virgin and the landlord asked for my MAC addresses of each device to allow access to the internet and gave me the password.
I managed to connect on my iPhone and my housemate who is also running windows 7 off a laptop can also connect.
However the network does not even appear in my wireless list. Several other wireless networks in the area are being detected but not the one in the house. I know it's not hidden as I can connect on other devices.
I have tried a manual setup with the network name, encription etc and tick "allow connection even when network is hidden" but all to no avail.
Unfortunately I have no access to the router as the landlord has that next door, however seems strange it would be a router issue if the other devices connect fine.
I have been through all the settings with my housemate and ensured we have the same setup and am now thoroughly baffled and annoyed.
Anyone have similar issues and resolve them, or know enough about such things to help?

Thanks
Julieoh

Answer:Cannot detect one particular wireless network, others detecting fine

Make sure your landlord entered the MAC address correctly. Go over it with him again. Also, make sure you are recording the correct number. I've made mistakes in the past and recorded the incorrect number. From a command prompt, type; ipconfig /all
Look for the wireless adapters physical address.
I once wrote down the "ethernet" adapter's address and then spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't connect.

Hello,

I am using a domain-joined laptop with Windows 7 Professional at work. Now I am trying to integrate it into my home network (which consists mainly of a Windows XP Professional SP3 desktop).
After enabling a guest account and sharing on the WinXP machine, I am able to access shared folders on the WinXP desktop from the Win7 laptop (which is not too bad).

However, I was not able to access shared folders on the Win7 laptop from the WinXP PC, not even after enabling all advanced sharing features and disabling the firewall. Both using the computer name \\HAL and the IP address \\192.168.0.100 gives me a "Windows cannot find..." error. Pinging the Win7 laptop works though.

I wouldn't like to leave the domain to join the local workgroup and am not desperate enough for a dual boot installation or other major work-arounds I have come across (especially since sharing the other way around works). But maybe some of you guys have a suggestion what else I could try.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello,
I have 3 interfaces running Win7 on a company network with 3 network share drives on the server.
These interfaces are part of WORKGROUP.  Mapped drives work while on WORKGROUP settings.
When changing to company domain, drives are no longer mapped with an error 1909.
Tried disabled Windows firewall but this did not help.  Also disconnected drives and tried remapping them to the interface.
Still getting error 1909.  When I return settings to WORKGROUP network status, share drives are accessible.
There are 3 other interfaces running Win7 on the network that I switched to the domain and were able to connect to drives.
Please advise with any new options.
Thank you,
Troy

Hi

I have a ZyXEL 600 wireless router - it has worked without issues for years.

However yesterday evening my wireless router suddenly stopped broadcasting a signal.

2 different PC's and a wifi dongle attached to our TV were suddenly all unable to find my network.

The WLAN light on the router was still lit up. I connected my Acer Aspire 5742Z laptop to the router via an ethernet cable and it worked fine. I connected to the router and it said there were no errors.

I phoned ZyXEL support this morning and they dialled in, confirmed the router was reporting it was working. They installed inSSIDer on my PC and verified no signal was being picked up - but other local wireless networks were being picked up.

They suggested buying another modem as it was very old and could have just reached the end of its life.

So I bought a brand new Sitecom 300N x2 modem this morning, connected it up and have the exact same problem. All the right lights are on the modem (solid WLAN, DSL and Internet lights), I can connect via an ethernet cable but none of my devices can find a the wireless browser (but can find other networks and connect to them).

I've spent hours on the phone today to various tech people and gone through channel switching, changing encryption etc but nothing has worked. The router is sat in the same place it has been for the last 3 years and the laptop is inches from it but still no joy.

As far as I can see I've ruled out:

So here is my story. A couple days ago I awoke to having no internet access over any devices connected through Ethernet or Wifi. My first thought was it was just a fluke and to power cycle my router and modem. After doing so I still got nothing. Called up my ISP thinking that the internet might be down due to a winter storm we had that night. They said that it wasn't. They sent signals to my modem and everything appeared to be working properly.

My equipment then:

Arris SB6141
Asus RT-AC3200

So I decided to make a run to Best Buy (not my first choice but convenient) to pick up a new cable modem. Purchased a Arris SB6190. Got it home, called up ISP (Spectrum) and had them provision it. Everything went smooth. Well now I was getting internet but only over WiFi. So now I'm thinking that my router bit the dust. Took another trip to Best Buy and purchased a Linksys EA9500 router. Got home, hooked it all up, same exact thing. Wifi works but everything connected through Ethernet has no connection.

Hello, I've been having this issue recently. On my laptop, the wifi works fine, and then a little while later, it can't connect at all (it looks like it's connected, then disconnects, and then tries connect again, etc). All the other devices connected to the router is fine, only mine is the problem. I tried looking at device manager, the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 is enabled, updated, and in the properties, it says that the device is working properly.

The problem does go away temporarily when I turn off the router, wait a little, and then turn it back on, but soon afterwards, I continue to have connecting issues.

Here's the info

1. Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?
Wireless

2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

3. What type of Broadband connection are you using?

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Thanks for using the basic requirements, all info provided were very helpful. Your Xirrus capture looks good, no issue there, however, I see that in your wireless connection you're using Public DNS, why not change the DNS'es to auto same as your LAN DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1. You'll have to click on Obtain DNS address automatically....Please follow this Tutorial.

Also, it's best to use WPA2 with AES encryption for a better secured network, you're currently using WEP.

I have recently bought a router, the Fritz.Box Home Server 1&1 VDSL. I have set it up via wifi and can connect to the internet without a problem.
However, I would like to connect my PC to the router via LAN.
When I put the LAN cable into my PC and the router, both my PC and my router react and tell me there is a connection but they do not recognize each other. The router says there is something in LAN1 and the PC says there is a LAN cable without a connection. I cannot access the router via LAN, only via wifi.
My PC uses the Killer Network 2200e driver, I tried removing it and then manually adding it again, it did not work. My IPv4 settings seem fine, too, I have no idea what to do now.

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi BC

I am using XP. My wireless network is using the "G Wireless Modem Router3 by Belkin. It is running unsecured.

The network normally runs adequately - there are annoying moments when it just seems to freeze, but 30 seconds later it comes back to life.

Yesterday it was performing as usual (ie adequately). Today I cannot connect to the internet at all, either with IE or Mozilla (my normal browser). When I look at the network status all seems well - it is shown as connected, and the signal strength is "excellent". But the efforts to connect just time out: Mozilla says that "the connection was reset", lets you "try again", but it never connects.

I have AVAST running in fully protected mode. I decided to run Malwarebytes to check for anything unusual. It asked if I wanted to update the virus database - I agreed - it then hung, presumably because it could not make its connection! I ran it again, this time refusing to do the update, and it completed a Quick Scan reporting no problems found.

I disconnected from my network, and connected to a neighbour's unsecured network, and everything worked fine.

I switched my router off and on and tried my network again - same problem.

I tried doing a "repair" on the connection (by right clicking on the taskbar icon) - this operation rarely seems to complete normally on my computer. It frequently times out with a message like "unable to connect", but when you then examine t... Read more

I've been trying to join a new Windows 7 Professional machine to a domain controller running Windows 2003 Server with no luck.  We currently have 4 Windows XP machines running on that domain without any issues, but when I try to add the Windows 7 computer,
here is what happens:

A computer account on the domain could not be found (confirmed it is already there)
I put in the computer name and domain again, and Administrator credentialsNow it tells me: "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed."
I currently have DNS on the Windows 7 PC set to the Domain Controller and have IPv6 unchecked under Network Properties.  I can even ping the domain name (resolves to IP of the domain controller).  It looks like it can, indeed, find the domain from
the message in step 1, so am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:Cannot join Windows 7 to domain even after setting DNS to domain controller IP

Hi,
You need flush your DNS cache in client side first.
Then, let?s create the following registry value for a try:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManWorkstation\Parameters

 - Created a DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
 - Created a DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0
Reboot the machine and check the result again.Alex Zhao

Hi

I am having a really difficult problem at the moment...
I am an IT Tech and all our pc's work fine on the network AND Internet.
I have a clients laptop with me, it works perfectly on the network but NO internet what so ever. I done numerous virus scans, Malware removal etc but with no luck sorting the problem.

Also, if it helps, when I try to repair the wireless connection "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the followng action cannot be completed: Disabling wireless adapter" also previously, same error message but something about the DNS when repairing the wireless connection. the drivers are up to date. Realtek RTL8187. I have configured it manually including the correct DNS.

Also if i try to disable programs to run on startup through msconfig while in the Administrator account it tells me i do not have administrative rights, even though the account does.

Need to get this sorted asap, without a format.

I have three laptops I've tried to connect to a Motorola SBG900 cable modem. The two laptops with XP Pro connect to the modem and internet with no issues. The third laptop with Vista Home Basic will connect to the model but won't connect to the internet.

If the Vista laptop is connected to the model via USB it will connect. If connected with either LAN or wireless, the connection is local only.

I've tried the following:

Entering IPv4 IP address
Entering DNS server address
Turning off the firewall
Reset WINSOCK entries
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults
Disabled the IP Helper service
Disabled IPv6
Disabled the DHCP Broadcast Flag

none of this did anything

Finally I tried turning off the Avast Network Shield and it connected. One of the XP laptops has Avast too, but it didn't have the same issue.

I recently purchased a used C2525E Kyocera color MFP to use as my sole printer for a home business network. I am having printer issues. We have a dell laptop and desktop PC running Windows Vista and they print just fine to the new Printer/Copier. The issue is that my Toshiba laptop -64 bit (running Windows 7) thinks the printer is offline (on the network). When running diagnostics, it says the printer is turned off. Now when I hook up a USB cable to it, the printing works as it should.

Unfortunately, this is not the solution to my problem. I need to be able to "Scan to PC" images from the scanner. I don't think I can do this through a USB connection.

I have not contacted Kyocera or Microsoft about this as of yet. One will just push the blame on the other (I have been down that road before with different manufacturers ). I am not a computer guru by any stretch and am an absolute novice at networking.

I haved tried:
dropping firewalls
changing network ports on the router
changing network cables (Actually found a bad one)
printing through something other than Microsoft Office apps
removing and reinstalling drivers (many times)
All computers show up on the network, so the router is identifying the Toshiba
Confirmed I am printing through the TCP/IP
Confirmed the copier setup with the network IP address. (it works on the Vista computers..... grasping)

As of now, none of the windows machines will connect to the internet, yet my little Mac here is working perfectly. Can I assume I have a network virus?

This is the other thread that has my hijack this logs and some more explanation of what I've done already, in case it's helpful at all.

Thanks!!

Answer:Home network - pcs cannot connect, Mac works fine

Macs don't tend to be bothered by most viruses, as they are mostly written to mess with Windows machines. Sounds like whatever got your first machine got the other windows machine also.

I just got a brand new computer with wireless capabilities. After some configuring, i am connected to my home network, but i cant connect to the internet that is set up on the host computer. i have already checked all the settings on my computer, disabled the firewall (because i have windows xp sp2), and reset the router twice. i am just wondering what else could be the problem. could the local area connection have something to do with it? please help.

Answer:Wireless Network Works Fine, But Cant Get On Internet

How did you attempt to hook up so far? Did you try this:

start > control panel > network connections > wireless network setup wizard
~~~~~~
Or this on the host computer:
start > control panel . network connections > setup or change your work or home network setup
Run the wizard, choose "This computer connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my network connect to the internet through this computer"
~~~~~~~~

Wait a minute. Upon rereading your original post, I need to know what you are using a router for. Is it a wireless router? If so, then your new computer is not connecting to the internet through the 'host' computer, but rather through the router.

I shall await your answers.

PC was on Windows home version. It was upgraded to Windows Pro but it made us install the anniversity update before we could upgrade.

Joined the computer to the domain with no issue. After reboot we could not log in with the domain user account. Tried other domain accounts too, even domain admin account. It say username or password is incorrect but that is not true.

Tried to unjoin and rejoin to the domain no luck.

Confirmed dns settings on the PC. Using wired connection. Not going through a VPN connection or anything like that.

Hello! Registered because I really need help.

My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Answer:Solved: Laptop cannot detect home network, can detect others

Huh ok nevermind, I reset my router, blabla, it's working again. I guess it's solved?

hey hows it going. my internet's working fine. and everything is fine on the network but on one pc it is saying no network connection. like its unplugged. but yet everything just works fine

just wondering. could that be from a prior connection in a different area/ service or server that its talking about?

just wondering what this is all about..thanks

Answer:network works fine. but no connection icon in taskbar

Is this a wired or wireless connection? It's probably a second network adapter that isn't in use right now.
Post the following.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I can surf the net and email works fine, but when I try to access the network computers for sharing it says I don't have access to them. Anyone else have this problem and/or any suggestions?

Answer:Internet Works Fine, But Can't Access Other Computers On Network

How are you trying to access them? Directly, or have you got them mapped as network locations?
Also, what operating system are the networked locations?

Everything is fine at my main 'home' network. Whenever I take my laptop to another location - could be Starbucks, hotel, friend's office, does not matter - I can receive email on Outlook but I cannot send through it. It gets bounced back. I can access the internet perfectly on these 'remote' connections and can receive email through outlook - just cannot send. It has to be an Outlook setting or something. I have emails on multiple hosts, all with the same issue. What is up? This is making me a bit crazy.

Answer:Outlook '07 works fine on "Home' network

Is your SMTP address provided by your ISP? They may well be blocking connections from external IPs.

To get round this you could sign up for a GMail account and use those account settings along with GMails SMTP server to send e-mail.

Hi,

Last night I bit the bullet again & upgraded to windows 10 & then did a clean install. I have noticed that the network icon in the system tray shows a yellow triangle & says no access but I can surf fine with chrome & use qbitorrent etc.

The only way I can get rid of the yellow triangle is to disable the network adapter & then re enable it.

Not using any third party firewall as private fireall doesn't support windows 10.

Any ideas?

Answer:Network icon in tray has yellow triangle but net works fine

Try uninstalling your network adapter but don't tick the box where it says "delete driver" then rescan for hardware changes.

I have a virtual machine, that as of the last time it was booted worked fine. I have changed my network card since I last booted it, but reconfigured bridged Ethernet, and am able to browse the web perfectly from within it. I can also connect to the host's windows share perfectly, and can browse around. However, attempting to download files "crashes" the VM's explorer (It stops responding, then eventually spits out "cannot read from source file or disk". Virtually every other operation does the same thing. Specific problems including going up a dir takes an excessively long time, reconnecting without rebooting is extremely slow, icons for executables are missing (almost every other icon is properly present), etc.
What happened? All of my troubleshooting experience with windows shares involves getting connected; I have never had any issues once connected. The host's share, btw, works fine on other machines, and other machines shared work fine for the VM. Both the VM and the host OS (heck, and the file I am trying to get) are on the same disk, might that have something to do with it? Thanks for your time.

Answer:Network works fine, windows file sharing intermittent

could be a bad driver for the NIC that you swapped in, see if there is a newer version........ if there is a problem with the NIC on the host OS, then it will cause the virtual NIC to be flaky since it's technically using your real NIC.............. Had a NIC driver that caused corruption of files when copying from Win2k3r2 machine to XP hosts (bad driver on XP hosts) and it was impossible to run installers.....

Hey Everyone,

I'm currently trying to get my wireless working on a new w7 install. Since the fresh install I've only installed windows updates, Firefox 11.0, and XBMC. I did all this using an Ethernet cable. I've been trying to get wireless to work, but consistently get Limited or No Connectivity. I tried googling around and tried quite a few steps, but the only progress I made is to find that it works in safe mode with networking. I've tried disabling the firewall, and eliminating all non-microsoft startup programs.

I know the network and adapter are fine as they work on my other w7 computer. Any suggestions on what to try?

Answer:Unidentified Network Problem, works fine in safe mode

Okay, nevermind. It DOES NOT work in safe mode now. It did the first time, but not since.

I am running Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. I am using a wireless router, broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated, for my home network. My router is connected to a computer running Windows XP but I never had a problem with compatibility before, I've been using these computers together for a long time.

My Network Connections in my control panel is reporting the the network cable for my LAN is unplugged. However, the main computer is reporting that it works and there is even a green #1 on the router indicating that the wire is plugged in. The main computer also shows a yellow blinking light where the cable connects to the computer indicating that all is fine on that end.

I need to re-establish my LAN in order to use the printer from my laptop. I don't understand why it says the network cable is unplugged. I've never had this problem before and just noticed it yesterday.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem.

If I plug in to my router directly I can browse my workgroup, access all shares without a problem. When I disable my onboard LAN card and enable wireless, I can't browse my workgroup or even ping the other computers by name or IP on my network.

I can browse the internet wirelessly, ping the router and the IP and subnet are the same when I'm using wireless or wired connection.

I removed and added client for MS networks, file and print sharing, removed all wireless security from my router and it still does not work. I don't know if its my Dell wireless card or an OS problem and don't know what else to try.

Any ideas?

Answer:cannot browse home network through wireless, wired works fine

On the pc that giving you trouble open this:

click on start
click on run
type: cmd
type: route print

See if it can see your network or your router when you connect wired or wireless?

click on start
click on run
type: services.msc
scroll down for wireless zero configuration make sure that's enabled

also look for network connections and make sure that's enabled
also computer browser is enabled
make sure xp firewall (built-in is disabled)

I am finding it impossible to get my new Vista HP laptop to network (via a wired router - no wireless here) with the other three XP machines on the network. I would like to transfer my settings and data from two of the XP machines to the new Vista laptop, but none of the XP's can see the Vista, and the Vista seems to think it's the only one in the sandbox.

So far I've renamed the XP network group to "Workgroup" in hopes that the Vista machine would see the others, but no luck. The XP's still see each other, but not the new kid on the block - and the new kid is still as myopic as ever.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do to get everyone to play nicely together?

Jonathan

and i have one media player (POHD) connected to that router too.
i try to play my media from Windows 7 via POHD, it is working fine.
when i try to view files from POHD via windows 7, it is able to view them.
Also when i try to view windows 7 files from my XP. it is working fine.
meaning, from my network, i can view any files from my windows 7 shared folders.

Here is the problem. when i try to view file from windows XP. via windows 7 or My POHD, i couldn't access.
i can view the XP pc name from windows 7 (workgroup) as well as POHD.
but can't access to XP from both 7&POHD.
so Please someone can help me out with some guide. how to share files between windows xp and 7.. in same network.

any help will be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Go to advanced sharing settings via Network and Sharing Center. There, make sure that you have selected home network and under the home network ensure that the file and printer sharing is on and password protected sharing is off.

I need to connect to the Internet using a USB dongle (Vodacom SA).
At the same time I need to connect to a workgroup via WIFI (for file sharing and printing).
When I am connected to the workgroup the laptop should use the dongle's Internet, not the workgroup's Internet.
There is one WIFI router where the printer and other pc's are connected to and it is the router for the office's Internet.
The machines run on various Windows 7 distributions.
How do I set this thing up?

(NEW TO NETWORKING)I have just got a new laptop with internal wireless setup, and also have a PC connected to a LINKSYS wireless/adsl(WAG54G)router,via ethernet. Can't seem to get my head around how to setup a Workgroup via the wireless connection. I use Asus WLAN software, on the laptop, and have got a strong connection with no probs; with communication set to infrastructure. The problem for me seems to be with understanding the relationship between the router, Soft AP setup + network bridge connections, all of which are unfamiliar to me..! Using XP PRO...sadly no reflection on my grey matter though..:0) any 'safe'links or advice is most welcome..!Frustrating as it is, it's a buzz to get a step ahead...just seems like a slow step at the moment..:O/

The Intel AC3165 wifi adapter on my Inspiron 7559 periodically will disconnect every couple of minutes and most the time I have to go through the Disable/Enable route to get it to work.  But then, magically, it will start to work properly and will do so for several days until the problems start again.
I have the latest driver installed (18.33.0.1) and I have turned off the "allow operating system to turn off wifi" switch.  And I have played with other settings until I am blue in the face.
Furthermore, even when the adapter doesn't continually disconnect, it is totally unreliable when switching from one wifi source to another.  Sometimes the change is easy, but many times I have to reboot the computer to make it happen.  Very frustrating.

So for some time now I have had intermittent network issue while booted into Windows 10, ping my gateway (router) fine, ping dns names like www.google.co.uk, www.unixmen.com and www.microsoft.com all work fine. Ping my ISP DNS servers fine however if I attempt web browsing or application updates all fail with no internet access.

I have tried ethernet and wireless both results are the same across two ISP providers Virgin and BT.

If I reboot to Linux and attempt all above I have no issues at all so this is a Windows issue for sure.

*HISTORY*

I have attempted to investigate this myself and had limited success with Dr Web Cureit! which reported probably DFH.HOST.corrupted but I believed this to be a false positive due to my modification of my host file to limit Windows call home etc.

Note: All has been working fine regardless of host mods

Anyway I allowed Dr Web Cureit! to fix , rebooted and low and behold all worked ok (this is no longer the case).

So I am struggling to identify the cause of this issue and would very much appreciate your help here please.

(All efforts to correct this myself are now stopped)

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It's over 5 years old. Recently the power/indicator light at the front of the laptop hasn't come on, but everything else works fine still (charges fine etc.). Usually it would be on while the laptop is on, indicate when the laptop is charging, turn red during low battery, and pulse slowly while the laptop is in standby and charging. Is there a way I can fix this? Is there a part I can buy and replace to make this light work again? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Laptop works fine, but the power light does not?

First try
remove power lead and battery - press and hold power button for 30 seconds
reconnect power lead and see if the LED comes on.

So I have 2 laptops, a win 7 and a win 8,
The windows 7 laptop works on the internet fine, but the windows 8 one always disconnects, even when the win 7 isn't on.
It disconnects usually when I'm running multiple programs that use the internet on it, but when I run a game like counter-strike, it disconnects too, but not nearly as often.

The router is from 2008 or 2009, but it's a tiny aztech one. I'm sure it's not the isp, because like I said, the other laptop works fine.

Answer:One laptop works fine, but the other keeps on disconnecting from the internet

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.. Reinstall it if you already have it.

What do you do to regain connection after it has been lost?

Hi
I had posted earlier also in this forum and d prblm got solved as it was a driver issue. Now again i have got a similar prblm but is not a driver issue. I have a P7H55 Asus Motherboard with the ethernet port and cable working fine individually. However, when i connect them together, the ethernet light on the router remains stable as if connected but still the desktop shows not connected. This time i have installed the drivers which came from the motherboard manufacturer and are the latest. In the Network and Sharing Center, the icon is enabled. It does not show cross sign. My 6-month-old laptop, which is in the exact same room as my computer (bedroom), can load a webpage almost instantly and download 20mb files in around seven seconds whereas my one-month-old computer takes 15 - 20 seconds to load a webpage and half an hour to download a 20mb file. I installed a new hard disk and reinstalled Win XP Pro SP3. Everything works fine after reloading the backup except I cannot communicate with the work group. I've set these up many times and I have the correct computer name and correct workgroup name. My other laptop still communicates with the same workgroup. No problem connecting this laptop to the network and looging on to the internet, but nothing shows up under network places.
