Hello I have problem with my battery. When i unplug AC power laptop is not started. It's running only when the AC is plugged in. Mabe it's a problem with windows 8.1. Did anyone has this probelem before?Please help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Can you Verify that when the Computer is Plugged in and Turned on the battery icon on the lower right states that it is Plugged in not Charging.
And how many Percent it says on the status.

Hi, I purchased an IdeaPad z710 not too long ago and I've been haveing some problems, mostly that I can't seem to get the battery to charge at all. The battery sits at 1% and a notification reads..."plugged in, not charging". I don't know whats wrong, and I've already checked to se if the battery is in visible good condition (it is). Any tips or suggestions would be appriciated.

Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs then plug-in the AC adapter and re-insert the battery.
3. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check.

If the battery still stays at 1% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, not charging", I recommend you contact lenovo and report as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

I have a Lenovo Z710 and though the charger is in the laptop, it does not charge the battery at all. What should I do? I have no Windows but I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 on it. Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? For Lenovo or for Windows? Thanks for your help, and sorry for my bad language .Regards from Lithuania.

I?m sorry to hear that the Battery is not charging and also not providing backup as expected in your G580 Laptop, I suggest you to open the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? to get the issue confirmed.

In fact, the battery ran completely out of power several times, which obviously triggers the very unnervingly problem of the Ideapad not recognizing the battery anymore, blackening it as unauthorized and refusing to charge it.Which is, let's be straight about it, really preposterous. When it happened to me for the second time, none of the usual advices were successful, which I will not repeat because they've been mentioned elsewhere. Here's what saved me from giving in and just contacting Lenovo to get a replacement battery (and I really wonder how many of them have been sent out to customers needlessly): When the Windows Device Manager shows the battery as an unknown device, the common solution would be to uninstall it, uninstall the Microsoft Compliant Battery (or all battery listings altogether, just to make sure, I even uninstalled the AC adapter in a slightly exaggerated act of despair ;-)) and scan for hardware changes or reboot.But that didn't do anything in my case and if you think it through it appears logical, because the state of the... Hi, i bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 machine 3 days ago, and now the battery is discharging and when i plug the power cord the battery icon shows me the "plugged in not charging" message. The problem began last night. I've read some forums, and tried changing the battery configuration to this or that, nothing works. I've also read that in 65% the battery will start to charge. It doesn't, i'm currently in 56% and discharging. The problem began after a Windows 8 update, so I'm suspecting the OS is the problem....  I dont know what will happen when the battery discharge completely.... but i will discharge it and tell here what happens... Help!!!

I?d like to advise you to try to turn on the machine using the Ac-Adapter only without the battery to make sure if the Ac-Adapter is charging and working fine,
 
If the charger is working fine let me ask you to try to uninstall the Lenovo energy management application and then try to refresh the system and then try to install the software back again and then  check the battery icon status,

Okay, so my keyboard dock works fine. I restarted it once (paperclip method) after dying on me, but afterwards nothing was really wrong with it. Now, the tablet's battery is acting funny. At first, I thought it was just my keyboard dock not charging my tablet, so I detatched the keyboard, and the tablet completely shut off. I plugged the AC adapter into the tablet, and it came back to life, but it would not charge at all. The keyboard dock would be at 100%, but the tablet itself would only be at 8%. I have installed the Lenovo Dependency Package thing and the firmware update, but it didn't change anything. Now, even though it says (plugged in, charging) on my tablet, it's not really charging. So, whenever I unplug the tablet or detatch the tablet from the keyboard dock, the system completely turns off because it's only at 8%. Please help me! Thank you!  EDIT: Okay, so I unplugged the AC adapter while the keyboard dock was on and then Battery #1, the tablet battery, drained down to 0%, and its status is now Plugged in, not charging, while Battery #2 is plugged in, charging. I also got a pop up notification saying there's an error in battery #1, see replacement options. I clicked it, but it was a dead browser link.Also, when I go to the Support app, it says under messages that my battery is not valid... but I don't know how that happened. I've only had my Helix for about 2 months now.

Welcome to the forum.   First, have you already updated to latest BIOS and installed this dock firmware update?
 
Also, could you check the battery health setting as per this tip?

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level.Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue?Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.

Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white.

So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white.

What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?

Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

check the warranty is still active, as thats one route you could take with a relatively new laptop.

also, try uninstalling the energy management and restart the system and check for the issue. also try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI from the device manager and restart the system and check for the issue. for more info on this action see this thread in the link:

Hello everyone, I hope everyone's doing fine.Anyways, I've been having battery troubles with my laptop which has the specs: Lenovo B560Core i3 370MBios - 39CN16WWRAM - 4GBWindows 7 - 32bit Now, the issue is that the original battery which came with the laptop is done with...I mean if I unplug the laptop, it takes just a couple of minutes and the battery drains out. I have been searching for the battery in the market and I did find some but now when I connect the "new" battery, I get "plugged in, not charging" when I hover over the "battery" icon in the tray.  I went through the details on the sticker of both the original battery as well as the new one and the only difference I found was that mine said "48000" where the other one says "44000"...Can that be the reason behind this problem? Also, I cannot find the battery with 48000 in the market or online. Can anybody please shed some light on this? I did try the method of turning off the laptop, removing the power cable and battery and pressing the power button for a couple of seconds. That didn't work either. Thanks,Abdullah

Try to release charge, - turn off the computer, remove AC adaptor and battery. Press and hold power button for 15-30 seconds, and power on the machine again.Also you can try reinstal energy management driver.

Recently my T410 laptop has had issues with charging the battery, the battery is plugged in and not charging.I have attempted updating the firmware for the battery, it failes half way through as the battery cannot be not identified.The lenovo power mannager does not resolve the issue either as it cannot detect the battery. Any advice on diagnostics or resolutions would be greatly appreciated, as after contacting lenovo support, they simply told me to replace the battery. Which I am happy to do but only as a last resort.

hello,It was working fine before i didn't use my laptop 3 days , then when i power it on after 3 days it showing " 0% available (plugged in, not charging) " .   And when i remove the AC plug, laptop turns off . (no hibernating, no shutdown, just off)i have tried - Method A:Remove the AC and Battery from the laptopPress and hold the power button for 30 to 40 secondsReplace the battery and ACBoot the laptop up and check if the same message is still displayingIf same error still persist, try to uninstall Lenovo Energy Management, reboot then install the Energy Management software again. Method B:1.Open Lenovo Energy Management2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.3.Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.4.That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle. Method C:1.Open Lenovo Energy Management2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.3.Under Battery Health, choose "Optimize For Battery Runtime" instead of "Optimize for Battery Lifespan".Note: The latter option will extend the lifespan of battery by limiting the charging capacity to be between 0-80%. as mentioned in another thread in this forum but none of them worked.  The Battery Gauge Reset didn't start.i am using win7 , and this battery is 4 year old .please help me out of this problem.

The thinkpad hasn't been used for nearly a year and two months since i purchased it from my friend. Lenovo Power Manager recongnized the battery for a few seconds then says:  Could not detect battery, please reinsert battery or recharge the battery. I applied double sided tape to the thinkpad battery so it wouldn't wobble. Still the same problem. Battery was purchased 2014-06-04.It is an aftermarket battery.

Hello, I have some problem with battery. The issue start when 1 week ago. My notebook sometimes does not charge while I plugged in the adaptors to the notebook. After I turn off the notebook. I turn on it 3hours later and become a normal while I plugged in the adaptors into the notebook and charged very well. Hi, I have a Lenovo P580 that is almost 3 years old, and I recently bought a new battery from Amazon to replace the original battery that came with the laptop. However, after installing the new battery, I can't get it to charge with the AC adapter plugged in. The new battery had a 60% charge initially. I currently have the battery setting in "battery fully-charged mode." The battery indicator light is red and flashes quickly, regardless of whether the AC adapter is plugged in or not (and despite having 60% charge). In the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop taskbar, the battery is recognized as being "plugged in, not charging." Is there a way to get the battery to charge? Or should I return the battery and get a different one? I really don't think the battery is the problem, but who knows. Thanks.

i have a lenovo y450, when i was playing a game it suddenly went off - it had done this before as usuall i pluged in and booted, this message poped up "pluged in not charging" when i moved the cursor over the battery icon.

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!!

Try performing a system power drain,
  Remove the Battery and AC charger,
          Hold the power button down for 15 sec.
             Reconnect the battery and AC and turn the system on, Check if the charging will continue.
If not try removing the AC and see if the the computer will shut off.
      If yes then you might need to replace the battery.

Hi,I have a problem.Since this morning my lenovo ideapad z500 battery won't charge and if I unplug the laptop it shuts down.I've downloaded and started battery firmware update and there was text saying:"Now configuring the program" . And it was stuck like that for at least half hour and when I pressed cancel and restarted battery firmware update it displayed error that said: "This system is not supported or is not configured for battery firmware update" Please help me.I have windows 7

As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with system not charging on your Ideapad Z500.
 
Run the system restore to earlier date and check if the issue still persists, if occurs then perform below troubleshooting steps.
 
To resolve this issue please restart the system connecting ?Power Adapter?. Wait till the system boot completely and then go to ?Device Manager? then uninstall ?Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery? under battery option. After uninstalling shutdown the system, remove ?Power Adapter? and reconnect, then switch ON the system and check if the issue has been resolved.

Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

I know that many of us here using the new z and p series ideapad have encountered this issue and some are still wrecking their brains, calling customer hotlines, searching the internet and trying all sorts of ways. I specially made an account to share my experience and solution with you all through an in depth explanation. Sorry for some broken english cos im singaporean and it has become a habit PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL OF IT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. and don't kpkb if it doesnt work because you didn't read it through. What i did when i realised i had this problem: 1. Check if the battery had a problem, but now the batteries are sealed inside the computer. Scratch that if u are too.2. Check the Power Brick, plug out and plug the adapter back in, change the wall socket you are plugged into.3. Restart the computer. I believe this is what the majority of you have done. Then u call customer hot line, send to service center, still cannot find out the problem or they claim battery spoil, then you have to wait for too **bleep** long b4 it gets repaired. NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Take these few steps to save yourself the time, money and whatever. Hi people! update for the above message: Lenovo Energy Management is still the main culprit for the error, so pls do check that under the battery menu in LEM, IT IS SET TO 'MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE' to enable charging to 100%, not Optimised battery health as this will allow your battery to have a longer lifespan( how many years it can last, i do not mean one charge.)

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part?There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

Hi I own a Lenovo G560 with an Intel Pentium CPU. I upgraded to Windows 10, and it worked fine for about a year. After I deleted a few viruses and a few garbage programs off the machine, the battery refused to charge past 87%. I have heard to check Lenovo Power Manager, but there is no such software on the system. Is there any other solution I could try?

hello, i've just bought my lenovo y410p last week, its been perfect untill last night i was using it the battery got to 6% and shut down, i put in the ac charger left it for 3-4 hours then when i tryied to use it the battery is still 6% !  i've seen alot of solutions like unplugging the ac charger and the battery and pressing the power botton for 30-60 sec and then putting the battery and the charger but it didn't work ! tryied to uninstall the driver and reboot and install it again but it didnt work -_- the battery gauge reset is not available !! as the photo shows also my battery status shows that the battery is destroyed !    can any one help me ??

Hi, I have been facing an issue with my laptop's battery. I have a Lenovo G580 model, the battery shows "Plugged in not charging" and 80% battery charged when power chord is plugged in but as soon as the power supply is removed the machine shuts off as the battery is not giving any support. Please suggest what should be done to solve the issue.Thanks in advance

I?m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is displaying message ?plugged in, not charging? while trying to charge. Hence I suggest you to perform Flee-Power and check if the issue persists.
 

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
Then insert the battery when the computer is turned ON.
If the issue persists, please perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? after installing LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) in the computer.

 Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Hi, Have a few observations and questions regarding the battery of x240. 1.Haven't really noticed before, but when we plug in the charger, should the charging info for both internal and external battery read "plugged in, charging"? 2. I've noticed that mine only has 1 (either internal or external) that reads "plugged in, charging" while the other isn't (plugged in, not charging) - I initially thought that once one is done charging, the other would activate and charge but it's apparently it doesn't. 3. Haven't really found out the issue, i.e. hardware or software. Sometimes it's the internal battery that charges, sometimes it's the other - do I have both defective batteries? Is it a software issue? Below are the things I've tested/tried 1. I've uninstalled the devices drivers in the device manager, restarted - still the same. 2. Install / re-installed the lenovo power manager driver - nada. 3. Tried charging the laptop while it is powered down - and both got fully charged!? Is anyone experiencing the same issue? appreciate the advise / help and thanks in advance.

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with 2nd battery not charging on your ThinkPad X240.
Shutdown the system and remove AC power adapter & battery.
 

Connect only AC power adapter and switch ON the system.
Go ?Device Manager? uninstall ACPI adapter from that.
Shutdown the system and connect the Battery and AC adapter and switch ON the system.
If the issue still persists then run ThinkVantage system update utility so that it will update all the required drivers and application.

Hello All, I have a 3000 V100 laptop that worked regularly until 4 months ago, where it stopped charging the battery.  The battery indicator shows it is plugged in, and correctly states 0% available. When I disconnect the AC power it, stops working immediately. During this period I tried to upgrade my BIOS, and to look for other solutions, assuming it just ended its life, when a few days ago I came across the Lenovo support site.  saw the N100 battery thread (that solved by replacing batteries of computers manufactured on 02/2007), that showed EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTOMS, and guess what - MY V100 was also manufactured on FEBRUARY 2007....  Here is the FRU: 92P1216, and the S/N has 92P1215  Again - I think it's exactly the N100 battery problem - same symptoms, same manufacturing date, and looks the same.  Can anyone from Lenovo help here? PS ? I opened the same thread and marked it as "solved" by mistake. So I reopened it here ? to be able to get help.  Best Regards,Eyal

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 1480 with Intel I7.  I was getting a message that says "plugged in charging" but the battery charge was staying at 60% and not increasing. Lenovo techs said the battery must be bad so I ordered and installed a new, Lenovo brand battery.  I get the same condition... placing the cursor over the battery symbol gives a status message of "40% available, plugged in, charging" but the battery charge never increases, even after shutting off the computer down and leaving it plugged in overnight. The laptop was a year old and therefore out of warranty last November, 2016. HELP!

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink.This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

Can you try to charge the battery while the computer is off (eg. for 2hrs) then observe.
 
If the battery charge is still 0% after doing the above procedure then it's likely that the battery is showing signs of failure. In this case, I recommend you check if the battery still has a warranty and check with the reseller for a replacement battery.

I have lurked a bit but have not found a decent answer for this. I like this machine, and want to keep it. I may be freaking out since this is day one, but - issue: Battery Plugged In, Not Charging Please, provide an explanation for this, is it the Lenovo Energy Management tool? I think a clear answer should be provided for this, as many have experienced this problem. Should I take the system back and ask for a battery or just return it and swap it out, or is this faulty.

I just got my Lenovo ideapad Y700 everything was working fine until updating Lenovo settings and windows 10. The battery now only charges to 98% and continues to say charging. Tried to open up Lenovo settings to see if I could change the battery settings to fix the problem. Now the settings won't stay open it just closes 5-30 seconds after I open it. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, still has the problem. Any thoughts?

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

Try to unplug the battery and the charger and then press and hold on the power button for 20 seconds
then start the machine and open the energy management program and on the battery tab choose maximum battery life option

When I bought this computer 6 months ago, the battery worked fine, and would charge fully when the power ran down. But now for some reason, it says 1% available, battery not charging. I've tried to do a cold boot, also I've tried different power management settings, and I've tried taking out the battery and putting it back in. But for some reason, I can't get the battery to charge. Any ideas? Pete

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

I would not have bothered making an account here if I could have found a fix otherwise. The battery is not charging AND it is not detected. I want to stress this because I have seen a million and one webpages for batteries that were plugged in but not charging. Mine is not detected. I have checked my power settings, I have done a power drain (take out batter and adapter, hold power button), I have restarted, I have looked for updates, and I have uninstalled the two battery things in the device manager and restarted again. I did NOT do battery gauage reset because the battery is not detected (I have Windows 8, so Energy Manager rather than Power Manager). I have not touched the BIOS because I'm wary of anything else going wrong. I bought this laptop in December. It is quite new, still under warranty, and even though I use it every day, it is still good and not bogged down or worn down in any way. I have had multiple problems since buying it, even a few right out of the box (shame on you, Lenovo), all of which I was able to fix myself. I can't imagine why I would have whatever problem I am having right now. For a short while after this problem initially occurred, I was still able to unplug the laptop and move to another outlet. So it's like the battery was actually detected. But once the battery charge ran out, I couldn't unplug anymore without immediate shutdown. Considering everything I have already tried, is it possible that the battery is bad? Can anyone help... Read more

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hopefully I get a solution to this question but my Lenovo Y50 has not been charging even after I thought it was my laptop charger was broken I bought a new one of the same exact type and It still didn't work and did the exact same thing as it did with my old charger. (i had this laptop for a year) What did the laptop exactly do? Well my laptop when I plugged it in it didn't work unless I set it up in a certain way to where I wiggled the charger tip around untill it finally said It was charging and I had to hold it into that position like a statue or else it would unplug if it moved an inch. That's not even the worst part! My chargers also heat at the tip. By heat I mean it literally gets so hot I burn myself on touching the plastic part and the metal part was very hot, when this happened on my new charger I made sure to unplug it right away to avoid doing any damage to it. Solutions I have already tried:Went into my control panel -> device manager -> Uninstalled both of the battery things like the ac adapter and the other thing I don't remember what it was called -> reinstalled -> Worked for a bit but not 100% gauranteed and after a while it didn't work Can't do a battery gauge reset because charger always unplugs Already tried BIOS does nothing. Don't even tell me to restart my laptop lol. Summary:Y50 won't charge, Have to have charger at certain angle to chargeTip over heatsdid everything in device manager to fix itno driver up... Kindly perform Power Drain and set BIOS default:
Try turning off and removing the battery first. With adapter charger unplug, press Power button for 15seconds to drain power inside.  Plug in adapter charger and press Novo button instead of the power key to turn it on for the Novo Menu  Choose BIOS setting  On Exit tab , load optimal default then Y then place battery back before save changes and exit.
Check if charging.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).
 
2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.
 

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing battery issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad SL500.
 
I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.
 
Go to control panel -> Device manager. Under batteries tab, uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery, restart the system and check if battery charges properly.
 
If the above said didn?t help, shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC, restart and see.
 
Update BIOS to the latest level.

Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue.When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Answer:T60 Battery ; Plugged in, not charging, I get it to work eventually, but it can drain my battery!!

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

My laptop suddenly stopped charging since yesterday. It is hovering around the 5-7% range since yesterday and continues to say that it is charging, when in actuality it is not. I have tried to reset the laptop, as well as uninstall and install the ACPI drivers, but nothing seems to work. It has only been a month since I got this laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
 
 Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.
 
Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.
 
Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

How old is it? Most likely the battery if you use it a lot on battery power, not plugged in.

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.
 
I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.
 
What else can I do?

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.
 
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

Z710 Do not start on battery only on AC connected Message on battery status 96 % available not charging test of battery shows 0 Volt and 9,97 kohm at pin 1 and 7. 5 and 7 . followed lenovo test instructions What I have done. 1. Reinstalled software Windows 102. cleared Bios and reset it3. uninstalled windows battery acpi and ac driver All operations taken from lenovo forum, and follow prompt. Still the same problem. Is it the battery ? or is it the mainboard?

From the testing you have done per the Hardware Maintenance Manual leads me to believe the battery is bad.  The voltage reading you are getting with Pins #1 and #7 is 0.  According to the manual.....  "If the voltage is still less than +11.0 V DC after recharging, replace the battery."   Do you get any voltage reading with pins #1 or #2 and pin #7?

I bought a used laptop from Newegg about December, and for some odd reason I keep having issues with the battery not charging. It first stated that the battery is 0% available, plugged in, but not charging. I looked it up online, I tried going to the Device Manager and find the Batteries;Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, right click, and uninstall the driver. Then I went to the Action menu at the top of Device Manager, and Scan for Hardware Changes. I waited for it to reinstall the driver. That didn?t work. I tried to do it in safe mode and did the same thing, and it didn't work either. Then I tried to uninstall the battery config, powered down, removed battery, powered up with power supply then reconnected battery, still didn't work. So then I bought another battery from Amazon, that worked for awhile then I had the same issue. So I returned that battery. I just bought another battery 2 weeks ago and now am having the same issue. Now I am thinking this all cannot be a coincidence and it must be the laptop. Do you have any suggestions please and thank you.

I cant use my laptop unless plugged in... There is no battery left at all and it wont charge...
I have tried to update BIOS but I couldnt because I got a message that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged.
I have confirmed that the charger gives the required volatge, so the charger is fine..
I have no idea if there is something wrong with the battery cz it passed the online dell test..and I dont want to buy a new battery for no reason. 
So I have no idea whats wrong to fix it...

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
In the meantime, please check status of AC adapter in the BIOS. If adapter isn't detected in BIOS, the system will continue to received power but will not charge the battery. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off system.
2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously. You should be in the BIOS. The status of adapter usually listed under the main screen.
The adapter should say the adapter type, if it says 'Unknown' or 'None', then it's a issue with the adapter, and most likely needs to replace with a Dell genuine adapter that suitable for the system. Note: Wiggle the adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS

The last 2 days I have had this problem with a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and have been using it with the power adapter/charger plugged in. Yet this morning I have started up the laptop with the power plugged in, and now it shows that the battery is plugged in & charging !!
Checking the battery yesterday it showed " battery life- moderate." As everything works fine with the power adapter plugged in, I assume that the adapter is fine.
If the problem arises again, can I use a power adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop which runs Windows 7 ? This Inspiron 1545 laptop runs Windows Vista.
Hopefully someone can advise re the use of the 630M adapter with the 1545. Will it be safe ? I do not want to cause damage to the Vista machine.

I did some HP recommended updates including a bios update and now I am getting some issues with battery charging. I've not tied the upgrades to the battery issue so I would prefer to keep an open mind to it being something else. I'm now getting the message whenever I click on the battery icon that says "Battery plugged in but not charging" and it will not charge above 55-60%. I am also unable to get my HP Toolbox FX to work properly so that limits my choices to doing battery status checks. I switched charging cables and bought a new battery and the issue remains. HP support is lacking when it comes to the remedies offered. I looked through the forums for this and keep seeing the HP affiliated members continue to put out links to non-functioning or unrelated links. This is becoming  a very time consuming issue that should have a fix and not get run around by HP support. I tried a system restore to a known point of no issues and I still am unable to get resolution on this problem. Does anyone know of a "real" fix for this issue once and for all?

New computer with very minimal usage.  Basically sat in the box for one year, now, error message states that battery is plugged in not charging.  I've tried testing, and diagnostics reports "unknown."  I've tried a few youtube fixes such as removing the battery drivers and allowing them to reinstall, and tried updating bios.  There is no way that this battery should have died.  Has there been a recall that anyone is aware of? Also, noticed that the case is cracked at the hinge on left side.  I'm super careful and I don't even know how this could happen.  This was not an inexpensive computer!!! Although this sat in box, the warranty is now expired.   Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

2 months old

I did the followings but did not fix it :

Unplugged the machine
Removed the battery
Plugged everything back in ( except the battery ) and loaded the machine
Turned off the machine
Put the battery back in.

This is the 2nd time. Fisrt time I fixed that by performing the above steps. Not this time.
Google search suggests faulty adaptor, as well as contacting Acer while still in warranty.

After googling, I came across this suggestion :
Device Manager > expand Battery > Right click at Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall > Action button > Scan for hardware changes

That did not solve the issue either.

Is there anything else I can do without calling Acer ?

Battery plugged in, not charging:Age of laptop 27 months My battery doesn't charge anymore.  If I make a HP battery test on my HP Support Assistant it shows me as a result : Battery OK.  Meaning: The battery is functioning properly. If I test the battery with an additional programm it shows me a battery wear level 100%. This means, the battery should not be rechargeable anymore.  - What should I do?- Replace battery?- I have a capacitiy of 18% left. What happens if I reach 0%? My HP 15 Notebook is almost 2 years old and all of the sudden the battery stops working. I know that the battery's performance has decreased a bit but it shouldnt be dead. One day a wake up to find that it doesnt turn on so i plug n the charger and it turns on and says consider replacing the battery soon but after a few minutes i realize it says plugged in but not charging at 0% (and it wasnt at 0% when i turned it off) When I try to run a battery test in HP support assistant it keeps saying status unknown (so how can it tell that I need a new battery but cant detect it which is why i think its a glitch) and that i should remove and then re insert the battery but still nothing changes and it it telling me that I have the updated version. Greetings. 
 
If the problem is triggered by new Windows update or changes on configuration , you may try this steps:
 
Step 1
First try power drain. 
Turn off , unplug the charger , remove the battery and press down the power button for 20 seconds. 
Restart and check for charging . 
 
Step 2
Else proceed uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method from Device Manager .  
Then restart. (click on highlight for detail step)
 
Step 3
Uninstall Energy Management from Programs and Features similar to this and restart .
Check if charging and then Install new updated version of the Energy Manager from the support site under Power Management component for your Windows version. 
 
With Li-based batteries , chemicals can go disarray / not evenly distibuted for utilization be that any battery manufacturer  that supplies to your model. 
 
None the less  , if this would happen to you often and that you have tried all 3 steps . 
Please call in tech support to best assist you to get things resolved within it's warranty coverage .

I bought a new battery for my laptop because the original one had lost endurance, it would last only about 45 minutes, anyway. So I put the new battery in and the computer sometimes doesn't recognize it, sometimes it does but most of the time it says : Plugged in but not charging.

I'm not too sure what to do, I made sure to buy the exact same battery with the same model #, etc.
 

Answer:NEW battery plugged in but not charging

1. Shut Down the laptop.
2. Press the power button then tap the F2 key until a blue screen appears.
3.On the left sided menu arrow down to Battery Info.
What does it show ?

Hi @all,i need help, my laptop when it is switched on it plugged in but not charging. If i switch the laptop off it is loading normally! hello i have a problem with my laptop battery charging. when i move the curser to the battery icon it shows a message of plugged in,not charging. tell me how can i fix it .i have tried uninstalling the acpi from the device manager but still not working .

This is my last post about this issue https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y70-battery-is-plugged-in-not-charging/m-p/2258...and with the step 2 in that I fixed my issue, but this time, all these steps do not work. Also I can not find new Energy Manager software in the Y70-70 support software download list.Can you guys help me this time?This Y70 really annoy me a lot, the screen blinking, and battery not charging......Thank you

Hey everyone.
Im using a Lenovo G505s. My battery is plugged in but not charging. That's what the icon states. I've read other posts about this but none of the solutions in those questions solve my problem. Whenever I unplug the battery cord my laptop dies. Could my battery be dead and how can I confirm this? Thanks in advance.

If you unplug the battery charger and the laptop literally shuts off immediately, seeing as its not charging as well, you almost certainly have a bad battery. It will likely need replacing. The first sign is issues with it charging. The second would definitely be it shutting off IMMEDIAYELY upon removing the charger.

Hello, I only bought this laptop a few weeks ago and it does not seem to charge propery (or so it says). As the title suggests when plugged in and I hover over the batter it says "plugged in not charging" It has been like this for a couple weeks now and still has not gone flat as long as it is plugged in, so some sort of charging must be taking place right?  Just want to know if I can fix this just so I am able to see when it's charging and use it without leaving it plugged in. Currently I keep it plugged in at all times in fear of it dying. Thanks for any help in advance.
