I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,
this is pretty much my first time to post on any forum so dont expect it to be a perfect post.
The story is, i aquired a dell vostro 1500, and the only graphics device in it is Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family...
I was just wondering, since id like to be able to play games above 40 fps on lowest graphics, is it possible to put anything dedicated into it? and how easy/costly/etc is it?

cheers in advance.

Answer:Dell Vostro 1500, Graphics upgradable?

VGA components on laptop are almost never upgradeable I'm afraid. There's very little you can other than lowering the games' resolutions & visual effects.

Hi people ... I have the Vostro 3559 I5 6200U, specs are said to have beside an integrated graphics card and processor daughter card. The seller claims to me that even with own 2gb memory, but I doubt it because nowhere on the box has not indicated that it has its memory ... anywhere but not through specialized programs like CPU Z, GPU Z ect,  I have not found that there is this second graphics card in my unit. But when I typed in the service code, including the drivers got an option for two graphics cards. I'm interested in how to make sure, that I got that card on the laptop, and how to include it, for example, only she does. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi,
I have a Vostro 3559 and I am pretty happy with it. I would like to -though- replace the keyboard with a backlit keyboard. Some suppliers on the internet say I need to check and not all 3559 are suitable for a backlit keyboard. When I remove the non-backlit keyboard I see a connector for the keyboard flat cable and next to it a 4 pin flat cable connector that is labeled as "B_BL1" (or something similar). I see that a flat cable on a backlit keyboard is also 4 pins. Does this mean I can upgrade the 3559 with a backlit keyboard.
Are there any people with experience with this issue?
Thanks.

I have been using dell Vostro 2420 laptop for the last 2 years. I had windows 8.1 installed in it in the last month. When I was using windows 7 I got occasional display problem with display getting blurred(consisting of close horizontal lines, and picture getting shifted to left side of the screen). According to the instruction from dell, I uninstalled both intel and nvidea display drivers. They got reinstalled automatically after restart. Now I got the display error again. I uninstalled the display drivers. But only nvidea is automatically reinstalled. When I tried to install intel hd graphics driver manually, it shows that "the computer does not meet the minimum requirements for the installation to complete". What to do? Please help.

Client has a Vostro 3559 which emits a series of beeps while the system is running. Generally it is a series of three sets of three beeps. This is not during POST. I have run the full Dell Diagnostics and all hardware tests pass. The beeps are random. They do not occur regularly. They will occur when the system has been sitting idle for an extended time with no programs open. I have set the Power to no sleep.
Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

No, you'd have to add a discreet card if that's even possible, which it probably isn't.

Please could someone explain how to use my integrated webcam? I see that I have it installed, but I don't actually understand how I can use it.
Sorry for being such a novice.

Answer:Integrated webcam Vostro 1015 DELL

There must be some preinstalled webcam software in there supplied by Dell.
I would check in your Programs. It might be Dell Webcam Central. The Inspirons had that, can only assume it would be similar to the Vostros.

According to the owners manual the first few lines of the BIOS/System Setup section indicates that the amount of memory dedicated to the integrated graphics and the ability to enable or disable it are options in the BIOS.  The BOOT method is Legacy instead of UEFI, the BIOS has been reset, default options loaded, etc and no where are the specified options visible.  BIOS is version A7 which I believe was the version that it was shipped with and the latest.  This is not a huge issue, but the fact that the option is missing from BIOS and needlessly using a bit of RAM is enough to see if anybody is aware of an issue.
I haven't contact support yet as I just got the box yesterday as a replacement machine at work.  I have already torn the thing apart looking for the old school jumper method of turning off the integrated graphics with no luck there either.

Answer:No way to disable integrated graphics on Vostro 270S when using PCIe addon card

Just a bit more information.  The add-on card is a NVidia NVS280 or NVS285 LP with pigtails to dual VGA.  With monitors hooked up to that card it has worked perfectly fine so far.  I haven't tried one monitor on the integrated card and the other on the card to verify both are still working, but the Intel integrated graphics still shows up in device manager and is using system memory.

Answer:Integrated graphics core(gpu)

if you want you can looking for Intel P67H chipset MB + i3 -2100/ i5-2500k / i7 -2600K
We test in the basic combo with i3-2100 the Video Score is 5.2 and with 2400 is around 5.5...
will assume in 2500k or 2600k will be higher but I will think below 6.

if for Video & flash game is OK.... but for 3D 1st person game is still not good enough...

I've been looking at this pc for quite a while now and I just looked at the Dell website showing that the Vostro 220 mini tower takes the quad core processor now. Does that mean I can upgrade from a core 2 duo to a quad OR is this a different motherboard?
And why is this an option now? Before this wasn't an option at all which makes me think it's either a different motherboard or bios update.

Answer:Dell Vostro 220 Core 2 Quad upgrade?

There are two motherboards (40N31, Y312K), I do not know which motherboard you have. You need to open the case and look for the part number on the motherboard.
Why now? Marketing saw that customers were willing to buy the quad core processor from us, so they made it happen.

So... I was reading and article and found out that the they have an integrated graphics.
I was wondering how these gpu's rank against this list.
And also, how much less power would they consume compared to say an ATI Mobility Radeon 4530?

I couldn't find a straight answer on google.
Thanks.

Answer:Intel Core i3/5/7 integrated graphics

I actually agree, i could not find an answer either. Only thing i could find are the benchmarks for the CPU's themselves and not the graphics chip on them.

It is meant to be better than the Intel 4500 though if that helps.

So, this year, one of my laptops is going to be 10 years old. It never had anything replaced inside it, so I thought the best decision I can make, considering the fact that I'm still using it ocasionally, was to upgrade its Core 2 Duo T5300, Hitachi slow HDD and 1 GB of RAM to a Core 2 Duo T7600, a 120 GB SSD and 2.5 GB of RAM. Now, the question is, does the T7600 have integrated graphics? I know it's a really stupid question, but I can't seem to find any information on the Internet about it having some GMA. And the reason why I want to upgrade that T5300 is because I want to play some older NFS titles, like MW, U2 and HP 2 in acceptable FPS, even 25 will do, but the way they run on a T5300 because of the GMA version is awfull, 15 FPS in lowest settings for MW and U2 and 35-50 for HP2 at Medium settings. So, what kind of GMA does the T7600 have?

Hi BETH1445,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
If you encounter any HDD related errors, then you the HDD needs to be replaced.

Dear Concern,

When I'm trying to install  AMD Radeon Driver it's showing no compatible hardware found! But I can see in dell drivers download center that there are drivers from AMD Radeon!
So, doesn't my laptop support AMD Radeon driver! Please help.

Thanks.

Answer:Dell Vostro 3550 (core i5), Can't install AMD Radeon Driver

Look in the device manager -- if you see two video display adapters listed, you do have the AMD GPU.  If you see only one (Intel), you have only an Intel GPU.
This system was sold with Intel-only (base model) and Intel/AMD hybrid (higher end models) GPU systems.

Hello everyone,

I have Satellite L500 laptop with intel i3-330M processor
the specifications [page|http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47663] says it has integrated HD graphics chip but I can't see it in my device list or anywhere else
how can I turn it on or whatewer?

Answer:Satellite L500 - I cannot see integrated Intel HD Graphics in Core i3-330M

Hi

Satellite L500-xxx was equipped with an additional graphic chip (I assume it?s ATI GPU).
Why you want to use the graphic of your CPU if another GPU is already available?

I?m in the assumption that this integrated HD graphics chip would work only if no additional graphic chip would be available on the mobo?
Furthermore I found this notification on the Intel page:

+Intel? Graphics Technology provides a visually stunning experience optimized for Blu-ray* and HD video with Windows Vista* support? and comes standard with many notebooks, desktop computers and motherboards? *without the need to add an external and costly graphics card*+

and this:

+Integrated Graphics may not be available on all computing systems. Please reference the system, motherboard or chipset specifications for compatibility+

My friend posed a question to me, one which I really couldn't answer well because I never bought an AMD Windows 10 Based PC before. Is an AMD A10-9600P with an integrated R5 GPU a bit better and future proofed on a Windows 10 OS than an Intel Based 6th Gen i5 - 62000U with integrated HD 520 graphics? Both are low budget Laptops, Windows 10 Home editions PCs, both benchmark roughly the same, with the AMD a bit higher, even with just a R5 Integrated on board graphics. I never like buying these laptops because they bog down easily and don't last more than a year or 2, especially with just a 5400 rpm mechanical HDD. They only boost 720 P displays, so I am assuming they both aren't worth buying. Heck, if it is worth buying something 300 bucks more, I'd say to him, buy a Lenovo with a 1080P display at least and a lower ended Nvidia card, it just helps a lot with the CPU and your apps... I am clueless on giving an answer...

Hi, I have purchased this laptop with Windows 10 Home pre-Installed. But due to some Professional requirements, I want to install a Developer friendly linux distro on it. I'll be using many VMs in that distro along with a possible installation of Windows via Wine. Therefore, I want to be sure about the aftermath of all this, including Driver support and battery usage. Has any fellow developer tried the above mentioned linux distros (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / Linux Mint 18.1) on it without any problems? I have checked that it supports Ubuntu 14.04 but want to use the latest LTS versions. Just want to make sure that nothing gets messed up.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5559 Core i7 8GB RAM Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / Linux Mint 18.1 Support

You could purchase an extra SSD or maybe a couple of them, replace the internal drive with an SSD, saving the factory Windows OS in case you want to change it back.  Just a thought.
I have put Linux Mint 18.1 on two new Dell Inspiron i7 7000 series and it installed and ran without issue.  Be SURE you get Nvidia graphics!

Not sure if its the Screen, or inverter etc but the odd thing is that when i close the lid, (the power settings are set to hibernation), and re open it, the laptop screen comes back to life for a couple of seconds before going black again.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone would have some sound advice for me on this problem. I have a Dell Vostro 470, with Intel I5-3450 @ 3.10 GHZ, Nvidia Geforce GT 620 video card and 6 Gig of ram. When I start the computer, it begins normal startup, then just before the windows desktop appears...I get a black screen that shows only the mouse pointer. Sometimes it will show the mouse pointer and the taskbar but no icons. From there, I cannot shut it down unless I push the power button. Im using Windows 7 64 bit version. Usually it will startup normally afterwards that but not always. At first I thought this just happened when the computer is cold, but it happens either way. And sometimes it just starts normal. I did a full virus scan (using Norton 360) and no issues there. I used malwarebytes and it shows clean. I switched monitors and same problem and I also switched out the video card with another and still have the same problem. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi all --

I've owned three Dell machines over the last few years, all of which have worked great, so when I recently decided to replace my current laptop, I went with a Vostro 1700. It was delivered on 7/14 and I have been migrating programs and data and attaching peripherals gradually to it over the last week to make sure nothing was conflicting. Things seemed to be working fine, so I started using it for my work yesterday and this afternoon, in the middle of editing a lengthy document, the screen went black and wouldn't reboot.

I spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Dell, taking out memory cards and hard drives and putting them back, turning the computer off and on, etc. I asked the rep what would cause the screen to go black and she told me it was probably a driver upgrade, but at the end of the conversation she told me they would replace the video card and the hard drive.

My first instinct is to return the thing and get a refund. I don't know if that's jumping the gun or not, but I'm not crazy about keeping a machine that had major issues in less than a week of light to moderate use. I've never had this kind of a problem before with a computer, especially one that is brand new, so I'm looking for opinions about how to proceed. How often does something like this happen? What's the likelihood that this is just the beginning of a long nightmare? or that once the new parts are installed it'll be a problem-free machine?

Or just tell me what is the problem, then, i can explain what happen for the client! As usual, thank you guys, love you all! <3

Answer:Dell Vostro 3450 Black Screen Issue

Hi MOCINHO,
When you press the power button, does the system remain turned on or does it go off automatically after a few seconds?
Does the system overheat? Were there any bluescreens / system crashes? Does this happen with or without the adapter connected?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then try connecting with the adapter only / battery only.
Press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check for any possible beep codes.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2iNJ0Q0 and remove the memory modules / HDD / ODD and try powering on the system and check if it works.
If nothing works, I would suspect a motherboard failure.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Hello,Ordered a laptop with this option. & have inserted a SIM card I used in my "old Sony laptop that I used for WWAN.What else is needed to connect? Thanks

Answer:What does " Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable" mean?

Hi rookie66, welcome to the forums,

it means that everything you need for broadband, WWAN, is present except the all important module which actually makes it all work.  The module can be purchased separately, or, on some systems the slot where it sits can be used for a solid state drive instead.

As you probably want to use WWAN, if you post which system you have members will be able to inform you exactly what you need to realise it.

Hi, I had a GPU fail in my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. The card that failed was an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS. The Vostro laptop actually can accept an NVIDIA 8600 GT card too. So I ordered the replacement part from Dell for the 8600 and they shipped me a refurbished unit.
The surgery to put in the new card took all night for hack like to do. I did not look carefully at the refurbished unit they shipped me as I was nervous handling the card (that I might break it).
But when I turned on the laptop after the installation, I did not get a pause at the BIOS saying “I see new hardware” like I did when I upgraded the RAM.
After the computer booted up I uninstalled the 8400 driver and then installed the 8600 driver. There was a snag at it’s possible that Windows automatically reinstalled the 8400 driver during one the required reboots but I KNOW that I wrote the 8600 driver over top at least (I had hoped to do a clean uninstall then reinstall but Windows tried to grab a driver for me).
So now when I right click on computers, properties device manager it shows the video as still the 8400 card. The 8400 card I removed has a sticker on it that says KU907 on it. The invoice for the 8600 that Dell sent for the 8600 says KU907 on it too.
I think I was sent the wrong part from Dell (I paid a higher price for the 8600 GPU) . Is it possible that a legacy driver is making the Vostro think it has the 8400 when the part IS an 8600. Or when I go to the Device Manager, does the computer physically c... Read more

Ok ive scoured forums and websites but havent found my exact answer to this issue. I got a vostro 1015 free with a bit of a cracked screen(nothing to bad i cant work around till i order new one) but i installed win 7 ultamite and updated fully. Started setting it up for use with other 3rd party apps(mainly trying to setup android x86 through virtual box manager) when at first started blinking on charger led next day and wouldnt power up. Well finally got it to power but then sense it has been auto cutting stright off. And now it wants to boot to no screen sometimes others it boots up but post takes forever most times. Then other times it takes about 2 min before it even reacts to hitting the power button on.But almost every time it ether goes blank screen then powers off a couple min later or just shuts off entirely. Lcd test passed, cant complete diagnostics couse it cuts off right at end of mem testing so far. Ive systematicly taken ram,hdd,wifi,cd/dvd drive out and tried each time to boot. No success. Rarly can get a few sec in. WIndows before kill. Any advice or idea i havent tried is much welcome....atm i have it dissassembled and checking all connectors. Also the power button broke off ribbin but got a spare to replace it.

Answer:Dell vostro 1015 power\graphics issue?

Sounds like it has some serious issues, you probably have a motherboard issue and it is taking a long time to pass post or isn't passing because there is something wrong and it can't pass so it won't move on.  Sounds like you are going to have to replace it.  All the stuff that you are mentioning that has happened sounds like a failing component on the motherboard that finally just totally failed and now Intermittently works but doesn't stay working very long.  Everything that is removable you have tried to boot with it not connected and still having the issue, then there is something on the board itself.

Answer:Dell vostro 220s (64bit) black screen after RAM upgrate

Probably wrong memory chips and wrong amount of ram on this obsolete model. Your model computer has a max of 4GB--2GB per slot of 800 Mhz speed, non ecc, ddr2 sdram. See this--

Hey
I just replaced my not working motherboard and power supply card with new ones. Now the windows seems to boot but just when the start screen is about to show up, the screen go black. I know it's up because when i slide my finger in the biological sensot it would make the sound of a successful login.
If you guys have any suggestions except repairing or reinstalling the OS, i'd happy to hear that.
Thanks in advance

Answer:Black screen problem - new motherboard - Dell Vostro 3550

It's probably an Activation Problem. If it's a new Motherboard, it's new Hardware, even if it is the exact motherboard you replaced.

If you can pull up Task Manager from the black screen (If you have a mouse but nothing else) - Then you can stick your install disk into the Optical Drive and run Setup.exe- This will fix any activation problems. Run an In-Place Install which means just choose "Upgrade" from the choice of either upgrade or fresh install. I've had to do this twice.

What does this mean? I ordered a T410 with this option and I would like to connect to my Verizon account- do I need a SIM card from Verizon to get mobile broadband to work. It appears no mobile hardwear is installed on the machine??  My x61 had the drivers and hardwear already installed - so this was previously very easy to do. Thanks in advance.

Answer:T410 - Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable

Hi and welcome to the forum!Upgradable means that the internal antennas are installed inside, but you need physical Mobile Broadband card to use WWAN, the card can be bought from lenovo. I'm not sure about the SIM part though, isn't Verizon CDMA? were you given a SIM for your X61 from Verizon (given that you were using same connection)?

Maybe try different version of the drivers. I had one recently that the updated drivers killed the system. Also, is it possible the card could be defective?

I've seen similar posts regarding this issue, but none of the solutions have worked so far for me. I've tried booting off Windows 10 recovery disk, and original Windows 7 DVD. None of the Troubleshooting methods worked, including various command prompt entries, and I couldn't do a upgrade or custom installation (custom installation says at the end that it couldn't boot into the next phase of installation). I can't get into safe mode. Did a diagnostics test, but no problems were found. Tried also removing the battery and pressing the power button, etc. but that didn't work either. Is there anything else I haven't tried yet?

I also ran pre-boot diagnostics(Fn+power) without any issue. Please help me to diagnose the issue.

Answer:Dell Vostro 14 [black screen, external display works fine]

Check the cable that runs between the mainboard and back of the display panel.  If it's damaged, replace it.  That doesn't solve the problem, the next suspect is the mainboard.

There is an issue with a bunch of dell laptops (Vostro 3550, Inspiron n5110 included) where the laptop display is not detected. All of the new drivers and drivers on this site do not fix the problem. There are a couple of workarounds that you do in the meantime though.

1) Hook up an external monitor. Then you can at least use the laptop (only with the external monitor though).
2) Disable the Display adapter under computer properties. Screen shuts off after boot animation - Microsoft Answers (this will only allow a low resolution and no graphic acceleration.)

I hope they fix this soon as it is tough to develop for an OS that I can't even use.

Answer:Is the ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 graphics card compatible with a Dell Vostro 200?

If the card will fit in the box it'll probably work for you. When I looked up Dell Vostro 200 they were built into two kinds of cases. There was one type built in a slim case and the other type built in a mini case. The mini case is much wider than the slim case. It looks like both types of cases sport motherboards with X16 PCI-E slots for adding an aftermarket video card. Trouble will arise if your 9550/X1050 video card has an AGP connector instead of a PCI-E connector, or you have a full size video card and a slim case.

Hello,

I have tried getting a comparison up on Google but have had no luck, basically I would like to play minecraft on a laptop and would like to know if the graphics are sufficient before I buy it.

I know the CPU and RAM are good enough and when it comes to graphic cards im generally okay but when it come to integrated graphics im no use the following specs for the laptop are...
Dell Latitude E5420
Processor Intel Core i5 - 2520M
Processor Speed 2.5Ghz
Memory 4GB DDR3
Screen Size 14.1" WideScreen Intel HD Graphics 64Mb 1600x900
Hard Drive 250GB SATA
Graphics Intel? HD Graphics 3000
Operating System Windows 7 Professional 64bit Loaded and Licenced with COA including Service Pack 1

Thank you for all your help,

Regards

Eddy

Answer:Integrated Graphics on a Dell Latitude E5420

Should be alright for Minecraft.

From what I could find from researching a bit, you should be able to get around 60fps.

Upgrading your RAM would help somewhat since you're only at 4GB, then you could allocate more RAM to the integrated GPU's VRAM.

Hello, I bought my Dell Vostro 3460 as a refurbished laptop and it has the latest drivers installed. Currently the video bios is 2130.0, driver version 9.17.10.2867 for Intel HD graphics 4000. I have noticed the colors on my laptop screen would flicker and colors would be inverted (blue to yellow etc) and then the screen would go blank/black. I have plugged in an external monitor and the monitor display would work fine. unable to mirror to two screens, extend display to monitor and laptop screen as laptop screen would go blank, the display on laptop is black. Is this result of drivers, wiring in laptop to the laptop screen or result of internal video chip GPU overheating so it may be a heatsink and video chip contact issue (thermal paste). When laptop is cool the display will display properly, I'm able to sign in and boot up laptop. I've seen laptop users experiencing similar issues on the Dell forums regarding many different laptops.
Help with suggestions please.

Recieved my new X220 Tablet today (i7, 8GB, etc) and have to say its looks a nice bit of kit - only problem is I thought 'Integrated Wireless Broadband - Upgradable' - meant it had integrated WBB but you could choose upgraded hardware if you wanted - turns out what this really means is it has nothing unless you choose the Erricson device

Also, wish I hadnt upgraded the antennas as you lose the built in webcam - I didnt realise that by upgrading this component you lost what is essentially a given on most other laptops

Not a great start to ownership - I am about to try the pen to see if this is as bad as they say - if it is, its going straight back!

Hi all,

I just have a quick question about my notebook's..... integrated graphics *gasp*.
So, basically I've been on http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri quite a bit since I got my new Dell Inspiron laptop just to see what games I can run on it, though I knew from the beginning it wouldn't run any games that were very graphics-heavy. The one thing that confuses me is that the above website constantly tells me my video card isn't up to running a game, but that the individual aspects of my chipset are far above what's necessary. For example when checking to see if I could run Company of Heroes, this is what the website said:

Video Card Minimum: Nvidia GeForce 3 or an ATI Radeon 8500 or equivalent with 64 MB of Video RAM. It must also support Pixel Shader 1.1.

You Have: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card

Required:
Video RAM - 64 MB You have: 1.3GB
3D - Yes You have: Yes
Hardware and T&L: Yes You have: Yes
Pixel Shader version: 1.1 You have: 4.0
Vertex Shader version: 1.1 You have: 4.0

So, can anyone tell me why exactly my video hardware is inadequate when these minimums are being surpassed?

Many thanks,

-Barry

Hello forum. I've got a Dell 5000 series with a Radeon R7 2gb dedicated GPU and 16gb of ram.
The computer runs fine but when I try to play games (like PUBG) it performs poorly even in low settings. I'm getting no more than 15fps which looks like pretty bad for what the GPU can handle, specially on those settings
I've found other people's threads where it seemed to be a problem with the switcheable graphics feature that seems to be bugged so it uses the integrated GPU instead of the dedicated one. However I've tried different suggestions from those threads and I haven't been able to fix the issue.
Does this happen often? Should I try and format the computer? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So I've tried almost everything I could find online to fix this problem with no success so far. I decided to give it a go here before resorting to drastic measures (like reinstalling Windows.)

So here's my situation:

I'm using a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop with Windows XP, and I bought it new about 6-months ago. I've primarily used it for schoolwork, listening to music, and watching the occasional movie - but as of yesterday my sound no longer works. Yesterday afternoon I was listening to music on iTunes using my headphones and then I closed my laptop, and the next time I opened it (a few hours later) I couldn't hear any sound at all from the internal speakers. I couldn't hear the Windows startup sound, Youtube videos, iTunes music... I then put in the headphones and I could only hear sound coming from the left ear. I tried another pair and it had the same problem.

I used the start-up diagnostics to test the sound card, and I found that the built-in speakers do indeed work, although sound would still only come out of the left ear of the headphones. I loaded Windows again and there was still no sound. I checked device manager to make sure there were no conflicts and there were none - in fact, I've gone through almost every troubleshooter I can find and still no sound. I haven't made any major installations in the past several months and am rather baffled as to why this is happening all of the sudden.

Any suggestions?

Answer:No sound on Dell Vostro laptop

Hi and welcome. You could try to remove the sound card in device manager and allow windows to put it back. Other than that, it should still be under warranty? so, I would suggest a call to Dell.

Hi,
I have a Dell Vostro running Windows Vista. I've had several issues lately. I've tried Malware Bytes but that really didn't help. Here's what's happenning:
The computer is running very slow, when I click on a link or page tab (in any browser) I have to wait several seconds for the page to change. Closing brower windows takes several minutes. I've had the blue screen of death a couple of times that last few months. When I try to open a program, the response is very slow and I have to wait several minutes for it to start and at times it stops working. I don't know if I have too many things running or not and I wouldn't know what to disable so I didn't mess around with that stuff.
I'm not sure if my best bet is to dump this laptop and get another or try to fix these problems.
Here's the files I have(as stated in the 'everyone must read section')

I have a client that has a dell vostro laptop running win 7 pro sp1 all up to date
I maintain the computer and I am pretty sure there are no viruses or spyware
It runs MSE and Superantispyware Pro I checked the logs and it is showing nothing. I also run Malwarebytes manually once a week

The laptop started last month doing strange things
It would work. Then about an hour later (plugged in). Everything locked up. No keyboard no mouse worked. He would shut it off with the button and turn it on and the HD was reading but it dropped dead at the dell bios screen and would not move.
The only way was again to shut it down
He then gave it to me to see what could be wrong
I booted it up, it went into windows 7, so I thought it was fine. It was plugged in. Sure enough an hour later did exactly what he told me it did
Shut it off. Same thing sat at bios login.
So I rebooted it again and after 10 minutes it finally loaded windows 7 but, try to login and it had a mind of its own. I watched the screen and there were dots going across the login screen like someone was typing but it was not me. Worse I had no keyboard working to use the backspace or delete key. But I did have the mouse so I rebooted it again
Same thing. So now I tried going into safe mode which it took 10 minutes to do
In save mode. Same login problem but after fiddling with it I got to put in his password and it went in
In safe mode I clicked on the start button, to try to get to MsE and run a full scan and at least c... Read more

Answer:Dell vostro laptop problem

I had a Vostro 1520 in 2009 that did pretty much the same thing. Dell eventually replaced the motherboard under warranty and it worked for a few more months. Then it started acting up again and by then it was out of warranty. I replaced it with a Sony Vaio. Since your client's machine is still under a service contract I'd let Dell have a go at it. From personal experience dealing with Dell, I'd just give them the basic info (computer stops working after an hour) and not offer any opinions as to what you think might be wrong. Let them do their own diagnostics because otherwise they may just check "a", "b", and "c" (what you or your client have told them you suspect) and not bother checking "x", "y", and "z" (the real problems.)

Well, greetings all!

The last time I was here, I was fixing my PC and you know what? It worked!

Now, I come here begging for answers as this time, I've really gotten pulled through a loop! I've managed to fix anyone and everyone's computer for years and this time around, everything I've tried, my laptop just gets worse.

First off, I am running WinXP SP2 (at the time). In the middle of all this, my fiance went on to my laptop (or someone did which I think my 3 year old isn't capable yet so I blame the fiance! grrrr! hahaha). One day, I realized the my laptop no longer had my Script Blocker working (running the background of firefox) and neither was my Avast AntiVirus warning me of anything...odd. I went ahead and I updated to SP3, all of a sudden, my wi-fi (Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG) crashed. So, while surfing online, my computer just became sluggish and I immediately decided to hurry up and download the latest batch of S&D, Avast & Lavasoft. First off, S&D wouldn't connect, Avast crashed and Lavasoft, unresponsive...I shut down by finally rebooting. I know...WORST thing to do but, my only option. Immediately, I slapped in the XP CD and reinstalled with repair to my computer. which...failed. then i went ahead and reinstalled windows completely. now...it was working but for some odd reason, computer still seemed sluggish. I came on this site and downloaded Malware Bytes...ran it and cleaned out everything that was checked...ta... Read more

I have a dell vostro 1440 that runs extremely slow, I have done every thing on the stick post list for slow computers and it is not any better. This computer had problems right away when it was new DELL worked on it and it was a little better but still very slow, I never worried much about it because it is actually the computer my wife uses to do the books for our church so it gets used about once a month. The only thing  it is used for is QuickBooks and Excel spread sheets. It takes for ever to get everything up and running, once it's up and running it seems to run ok but still not like it should. Sometimes you get the not responding message, it eventually comes out of it but it can take a couple of minutes sometimes. It also takes a long time to shut down to.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Terry

Hi,

I've bought a Dell Vostro 1400 a few months ago. Once I got it, first thing I did was format Vista and install XP.

Now I want Vista back, but no "Operating System" CD came with my laptop. I only have a partition that's called "RECOVERY" that came with my laptop, but I have no idea how to use that. Even the laptop's manual doesn't tell me how to do it.

Any ideas?

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop.  My screen will go blank every five minutes.  I can still barely see what is on the screen, but it is so dim it is unusable.  This will only happen when the power cord is plugged in.  As long as I am running on battery power there has been no problem.  Where is the problem?  What can be done about it?Thanks!

Answer:Dell Vostro Laptop Screen Goes Blank

Could be a problem with the LCD bulb or inverter? Have tried contacting Dell support?

Hi,
I am facing a seemingly serious problem with my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop, which I bought in 2007. The computer seems (almost) dead.
This is what happens when pressing the power button:

the LED with the 'power'-symbol goes on and stays on until I press the power button again (a short press suffices). The other two system LEDS don't light up.
The three 'lock'-LEDS (num, caps and scroll I believe) flash once, all three of them at the same time, shortly. I think (not sure though) this is normal and like before.
On screen absolutely nothing happens. The screen seems completely dead, like the laptop is turned off.
I hear two beeps, which is the usual amount of beeps.
The fan runs for a brief moment, which is also normal and like before.
The cd/dvd-dock-light blinks a few times, which is probably also normal.
I hear a little bit of rattling noise, which is also normal and comes from the HD I believe. However, normally it keeps on making little sounds as the laptop starts up and now these don't continue.

Further the laptop stays dead until I turn it off by pressing the power button again.
So basically I have no visuals at all + the laptop seems to hang 2/3 seconds after powering on.
Before my laptop went dead on me, something very strange happened during the last time I used it. I was watching a youtube-video (don't know if this is relevant, but anyhow) when suddenly the screen showed vertical black and white stripes and the sound was gone. The complete screen was frozen in blac... Read more

Answer:Dell Vostro Laptop seems dead (does not start up)

Sounds like screen failure or graphics chip failure.
something to try
Power off remove battery and mains lead
press and hold power button for 30 seconds
connect mains lead and see if it will start up.
Check the lid switch isn't stuck down.
Next you need to connect to a external monitor / TV with a VGA cable and use the FN + F? key(with blue square) to cycle through screen options (LCD - external LCD+External) worth trying cycling with out another monitor.

I am trouble shooting my son's machine.

He has indicated that it actually locks up when it is overheating, usually while watching movies on it.

He has been using it on a board to keep the back off of soft surfaces.

Answer:Dell Vostro 1510 laptop running hot

There is an opening, most likely on the back, where air is exhausted by the CPU fan after being passed over a heat sink (or maybe it's pulled in over the heat sink, I forget which). If that heat sink gets clogged with dust it will cause overheating. You can download the instructions for disassembling the laptop from Dell (use the service tag number) and getting to that heat sink, it's not very difficult. Some older Dells are known for this, although I haven't seen it in their more recent models. But it won't cost you anything to try this.

Note: before you do this, make sure the opening itself is clear although I suspect you have probably already checked that.

Hi, I was wondering if I could get a 2nd opinion on the dump files from my BSODs.

I get them pretty consistently and at first I thought it had to do with some flash/ad blocking plugins i was using with firefox, but it kept happening with IE as well. One of the dumps says utorrent.exe, but i'm not 100% if that's the cause. I was using utorrent constantly for 2 weeks without any BSODs, but got 5 bsods just today.

I also noticed the dumps also make reference to "Genuine_Intel" in one line, I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that i'm using an engineering sample of a core 2 duo T9500 in my laptop?

I never had problems like this running Windows XP SP3 on this same configuration before

thanks in advanced

A colleague has asked for my help with this one. With battery either in or out, and system connected to mains supply with correct adaptor, nothing happens. Little green light on adaptor is illuminated, but pressing power-on button does nothing. He has measured the correct 19v output from the adaptor plug.Following trouble-shoot procedure on Dell site, I tried wriggling power plug in its connector while repeatedly pressing button, and on two occasions saw a brief flash of light from on-screen LEDs. One time three reds showed momentarily, on the other there was a flash of green. Screen itself did not illuminate.Suspecting adaptor cable, I aquired another mains adaptor, which does nothing to correct the fault.I see input sockets for this machine are freely available on ebay, which suggests to me that this component might be faulty. If it is, looks like a new system board is required. Has anyone encountered this?

Answer:Dell Vostro 1000 Laptop will not power up.

Yes, I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop sitting here with the exact same problem. I have stripped it down to it's individual components (and rebuilt it) but, as you say, it appears that the problem lies either with the on-board connection or the motherboard itself, it seems to be a common problem judging by my Google searches. I haven't found anyone locally with the same laptop, so I can't charge the battery to see if it boots with battery power rather than mains power through the on-board connection. As your's wont boot from the battery, I suspect (if your battery is charged) you might have a motherboard problem.

I was uploading photos to Facebook and on Twitter, Gmail, and a university admissions page when the computer totally stooped. Cursor would not move, would not respond to ctrl+alt+delete, so after waiting a minute, I held the power button to shut it off.

On reboot, I launched normally and got a bluescreen before I could login in. Tried restarting and the problem continued. I had to launch Safe Mode to get it to start, and it wouldn't operate in Safe Mood with networking. System restore has done nothing and I don't have the OS disc with me.

Can't run a health report from Safe Mode, so I can't give you that info.

Anything else I can give you to help?

Hello all,

I am hoping someone can help. I have a Dell laptop that will not boot up. This is the message that I get.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software mfg. for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

STOP: oxooooooED (ox89B19658,0x00000000,0x0000000)
I am not able to start in safe mode. It keeps coming back to the message above.

I am running Windows XP

Anybody have any ideas?

Answer:Problem with Dell Vostro 1510 Laptop

Hi .Take a look at Unmountable Boot Volume - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302.The normal fix for this is to run the chkdsk /r command (or equivalent). To run the equivalent:Go to Explorer view, right-click the partition/drive in question...select Properties.Click on Tools tab...push Check Now button (Error checking).Select both options (automatically fix and scan for) and click Start/Enter.A screen will open and inform you that chkdsk cannot be run now, etc...type Y and hit Enter.Reboot the system, command will execute. The system will boot into XP when command has completed.Louis

I have an old Dell Vostro laptop and I think it may work if reformated.  It has no disks and I belive Dell has a function to reset to when it came from the factory.  Could someone please tell me how?

Thank you.

Answer:How to reset Dell Vostro laptop to factory

What operating system do you have and what is the exact model? Usually to do a factory reset after powering on the machine you would start tapping F8, this will take you to a boot options menu, select the repair option and let it load. This should take you to a screen with several options. With dell, usually the bottom option will be dell factory restore (or something similar to this), use your arrow keys or mouse to select the dell restore options and follow the instructions. In some cases dell will offer the option to backup your data before restoring (if you do not want the data select no).

Make sure you do backup your data first before doing the factory reset. I do not trust any factory backup procedure, I always backup my data and verify it before formatting etc.

Tried upgrading my vostro 1000 to Windows 10, but got an message window saying that Dell has an issue with ati Radeon xpress 1150 not sure if it's a driver issue or hardware..

is is there anything I can do ?

thanks

Answer:problem upgrading dell vostro 1000 laptop

First, for older machines I highly recommend that you start with a 32bit version of Windows 7 or 8.x. Even if your system can run 64bit you will have many less problems going 32bit through all this. I had to fresh reinstall Windows 7/8 with the 32bit version before several of my machines would upgrade properly.
Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and install Windows 10 32bit on a USB thumb drive.
Windows 10
Make sure you have validated Windows 7/10 before you start (Control Panel -> System)
Then, insert the thumb drive and and run the setup program, you should be able to bypass the driver check and get Windows 10 installed.
When asked for the Windows 10 product key, select skip. Since your machine already has a validated Windows 7/8, that validation will be carried over.
After windows 10 is installed, if the default video driver does not work so good, try installing the latest driver you can find even if it's for Windows 7 or 8.
Good luck and please report back to let us know how it went, it will be helpful for others.

After updating a few drivers from Dell's support site, the laptop restarted but now the power only goes to the keys and not the screen. I cannot boot the device at all to do any diagnostics. I attempted connect it to my PC monitor using a VGA and to my TV using a HDMI but neither displayed anything. The only thing I have to go on is that the number lock stays steady while the caps and scroll locks blink simultaneously. Could it be the RAM, motherboard or both? Please help, I just purchased this laptop and the seller will not accept a return.

HI! Please help. I know nothing about computer hardware etc.. just how to use one. I have a Dell 1700 Vostro laptop Windows Vista Ultimate with an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU [email protected] (2CPUs) with 3838MB RAM the company I would like to work with requires a dual core processor with a speed equal to or greater than 1.8GHZ and 2GB of RAM.Is is possible to upgrade my laptop to their requirements? Approximately how much would it cost and is it worth it?Thank you.

Answer:Upgrading Dell Vostro 1700 laptop for job opportunity

I'd buy a laptop that meets or exceeds the requirements if it was a job that was a good return on investment. Some laptops can take upgrades, but its best to have a laptop that was designed to run the faster CPU to avoid issues with heat disipation etc. Laptops are cheap these days and you should be able to find a used dual core meeting 1.8Ghz and 2GB RAM for around $200 or less. I'd go with a new laptop myself if it was for mission critical work, nothing would be worse than thinking your all set to go and having a computer get you fired when it cant work properly.

this laptop is 8 years old mashalla

Answer:Dell Laptop Vostro A860 speakers not working

Hi:

It could be that the speakers died on such an old device?

Since this is a DELL, have you tried the built-in, pre-boot hardware diagnostics?
Provides means to test all the hardware.

Tap F12* during a cold start to bring it up > follow the screen steps.
Just a thought...

*That is the usual key on a Dell. I don't know about your specific model.

Okay, from the first day I bought a Dell e1505 laptop a little over a year ago, when I search google maps for an address, these weird 1-2" black boxes obscure part of the maps. Video drivers didn't fix the issue, so I waited. Back in March, I began contacting Dell tech support again.

Five months, over 50 documented hours on the phone, one product return, a dozen repair CD's, a new hard drive, and too many hd reformats/windows installs later, the problem continues and Dell finally gave up on me, telling me that they only sell and service hardware, I must have a software issues, and software support is only a courtesy.

Ironically, I also have a problem with the Dell website http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellconnect/dellconnect?c=us&l=en&s=gen where the world map appears all screwed up.

Before I take them to small claims court, has anyone ever heard of such a problem?

Hi, I was thinking about upgrading the RAM in my laptop at some point. As it has integrated graphics (Intel HD 4000) it has no dedicated RAM but uses system RAM. Therefore I would like the fastest that I can possibly get (for gaming). The question is, what would be the fastest RAM I could put in this thing? At the moment it has 6GB of standard 1600MHz DDR3. Could I put some higher MHz RAM in there (and how high), and would it really be worth it considering the price/performance increase? Thanks in advance for any advice.

System Spec:

Model: HP Pavilion G6 Laptop
CPU: Intel i5-3210M (Integrated HD 4000 Graphics)
RAM: 6GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 (120GB)
HDD: 1TB Toshiba (5400 RPM)
OS: Windows 8 64-bit (soon to be 8.1, when I can get the darn thing to update!)

Thing is, its not detecting the integrated graphics card now. It was still detecting while it was cracked, means the fall did not damage the card. I reinstalled the driver, even slightly wiggled the card, but it didn't help. Any suggestions!!

So my laptop has 4 usb ports, 2 on the side and 2 on the back. My Microsoft wireless mouse does not work with 3 out of 4 of them. Now on the port number 4 the mouse only works for a minute or so. My plug in for the wireless mouse will blink its green light and while the light blinks my mouse works, kind disjointedly. But when the blinking light finally goes solid, indicating a full connection (as the mouse manual says), the mouse decides no to work at all. Any suggestions?

On a side note, I heard that if your laptop battery is not working properly, then your mouse will not work at all. I checked my power source, and it says that my Current power source is AC power, and my Total battery power remaining is 19%. If so, how do I charge my battery, I do not see an option for it any where?

Thanks
