Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

Question: Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?
Via Settings: settings > Recovery > Reset this PC > Remove everything, or
settings > Recovery > advanced startup > Reinstall from USB

Which of the above 3 should I do to get the cleanest, barest Windows possible?
My only concerning is the Wimboot warning

Anyone had experience doing this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.

Hello everybody! I own an Ideapad 100s and recently tried a clean install using Novo button. The process somehow failed so I got stuck with the boot logo. Thanks to the info in the forum I managed to reset BIOS settings to enable USB boot and then tried to install Win10 from USB. The installer loads just fine but then comes up a window saying there's a missing driver, which could be anything from USB, DVD, or HDD. Any idea how to overcome this?I'm losing my **bleep** over this notebook. Thanks

Hello, for the past weeks I've been trying to tackle the following issue.I have a Lenovo Ideapad notebook that came with a 32gb eMMC card for storage. I wanted to downgrade it to Windows 7 so I ended up cleaning the card/drive completely. Soon after I found that there were no drivers available for Windows 7. So I tried going back to Windows 10 with the disc. The problem is I get the following error when picking the drive during installation:"?We couldn?t create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.?I tried so many 'fixes' that I found during research but can't past this roadblock I've manually created the partition and even manually moved the installation files to the primary drive. Something tells me that it has to do with the eMMC. I can't even install a normal drive since there's no space for it.Please help guys!!

I have an 11" Ideapad 100S 11IBY and I clean installed ubuntu 16.04. I took backup of the entire eMMC drive, then wiped it clean and installed Ubuntu 16.04. Ubuntu worked fine until I performed the update by sudo apt-get update/upgrade after which it stopped booting and goes into a boot loop. I know how to make a 32bit firmware UEFI bootable USB but now the same UEFI bootable USB can't boot.I actually just need to boot as I have the clone of the entire eMMC with me on a separated hard disk which I can restore if there is a successful boot. I am just stuck with messages:"ubuntu boot failed" followed by,"Default boot deviceMissing or boot failed. Insert recovery media and hit any key, Then select Boot Manager to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media."The EFI boot devices options are always disabled in the boot menu and not even the Windows 10 USB (uefi) is working. I also tried the rEFInd boot manger on a bootable USB. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

First question: Has anyone been able to open up the laptop at all?  I removed the rubber feet, unscrewed all 4, and it wouldn't open.  My theory is that there's a hidden screw under one of the labels on the back, but can anyone confirm this? Second question:  Is a clean installation of Windows possible with this laptop?  Ubuntu can't find see any partitions or drives at all(haven't tried to see if Windows can yet).  My theory is that the OEM parition (which is ridiculous by the way) is somehow blocking Ubuntu from seeing anything. Final question:  I did the OneKey system backup (80 gigs ffs) before I totally ruin it by trying to dual boot OS's, but I have absolutely no idea how I'd restore the system using that backup.  Its just a folder with a bunch of backup files in it... Thanks!

Answer:Ideapad U310 - some quick questions about clean installation, restore a backup, and opening it up.

hi guppy507,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Regarding your questions:

1. In removing the base cover, you will need to use a prying tool and remove the base cover.in a counter clockwise direction - see this video.

2. A clean installation of Windows or any OS is possible, the U310's HDD is under RAID mode, you will need to set the SATA Controller Mode to AHCI to install Ubuntu on the SSD or HDD and also, you will need to set UEFI to disabled.

3. If you created a custom recovery image using One Key Recovery, you will need to push the One Key Recovery button and restore the backup from that menu.

Hope this helps.

Forgive me if this question has already been asked. I would like for the touchpad to turn off when I plug a mouse in. It was fairly easy to do this on my old laptop. I noticed on the ideapad 100s that the touchpad doesn't show up under hardware. I have also not been able to find any drivers that seem to fit this touchpad. The only option I have under mouse settings is to change the delay before click works. Any suggestions? Also, on a different topic. This machine came with windows 10 installed. However it is extremely sluggish (as in, you have to wait for a few seconds for text to catch up with what you're typing many times in search fields. etc.)  Any ideas about what I could do to optomize my system's performance? Would it be better to downgrade to windows 7, or would this be futile? Thanks!

Answer:Ideapad 100s touchpad

Hi Kit,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

You can configure Windows 10 to automatically disable the touchpad of your laptop when a mouse is connected. You can toggle this option on/off under your Mouse & touchpad settings.
Automatically Disable Touchpad When a Mouse is Plugged In

Click on Start > Settings and then navigate to Device > Mouse & touchpad > Touchpad section. Toggle the Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected option off:

I hope the above information helps.

Shashi

Unlike other laptops I've had which were able to run without the battery even in the laptop, i.e. Only plugged in, my laptop requires some level of charging before even turning on when plugged in.  is this normal or is there a setting to allow the device to turn on when plugged in. Quite a pain having to wait for it to re charge, isn't that the point of corded use? Also it seems to die pretty quickly and even when put to sleep when closed fizzles out quickly. Again is this normal?

Did you change the boot order in the BIOS of the Ideapad 100s?

Can you do so by pressing the Power button, and immediately pressing Fn and F2, or Fn and F1 keys 5 to10 times.

Answer:No boot options for Ideapad 100S?

Hello and welcome,

Is this an 11IBY?  The 11IBY requires  UEFI 32-bit boot media.  Legacy and 64-bit media won't work.

How did you create your image, and how are you trying to boot it?  Did you use the "create recovery drive" option?  I'd expect that to make bootable media.  (If that option exists - I don't have personal experience with that machine).

Hi everyone, My little sister's ideapad 100S was playing up - unfortunately I wasn't really paying attention and just told her to restart it. Now the keyboard is not working as it should. As far as I can tell, the only buttons that are working are I, enter, tab, and the space bar. I've tried the on-screen keyboard and plugged in an external keyboard, and it is exactly the same. Restarting does not help. I cannot log in to check the drivers, etc. There has been nothing spilt on it, nothing downloaded to it - no variables at all, as far as I know.  Any advice?!  Thanks!

Touchpad on my Ideapad 100s keeps shutting off.  It will work when the computer turns on but then after a while, it stops working.  Pressing F6 works sometimes but not all of the time. It looks like the driver that is loaded is from January 2016, but when I tried to upgrade to the newer driver, it seemed to not be working and was causing both the touchpad and keyboard to stop working.  Got it working again by deleting the driver.  My wife uses this computer for school and it's not convenient to plug in an external mouse.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

The charger for this laptop lasted about 3 hours. It charged the laptop to nearly 100% and next time I looked the charge was back down in the 80% range and the charge light was out. Tried cycling the laptop on and off, plugging and unplugging the charger from the outlet but still nothing. Checked the voltage at the output of the charger and it was zero and the AC outlet is good. Anyone else having problems with this charger? The laptop itself is good for its price range.

I got and started using my Ideapad 100S yesterday and installed a security software and Microsoft Office. Today I tried to start doing schoolwork on it and it was being so laggy - it took me about 10 mins to successfully open a Google Drive document . I also tried watching a TV show on HBO online and it was incredibly laggy and hard to watch. For some reason my laptop is just being slow in general and on top of that the mousepad is barely working and super slow to respond. Why is it being slow? I've had it for 24 hours and it's incredibly frustrating because I was counting on this laptop to be able to function for my basic school needs and it's hardly capable of keeping up with what I type.

My wireless connection keeps dropping even though the rest of the devices at home that's connected to the same router is staying connected. I've tried all the troubleshooting I could find online, but nothing seems to work. Then again, I'm not that IT savvy. I just bought this laptop a few days ago and I want to make sure I've not done anything to compromise the device's wireless capabilities.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

(Ideapad 100s 11IBY - trying to instal perppermint 7 os) I ask because I have been trying to boot using the usb with Peppermint 7 (32-bit) OS, and I used rufus to create the UEIF bootable usb. But, I have still had zero luck using either the boot menu or going through the UEIF options using windows 10.  Any ideas? Does Ideapad 100s even allow boot from usb (under the boot settings there are barely any configurable options such as the boot priority)? (similar to this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Ideapad-100s-How-to-boot-Linux-from-USB...)

Hi all!I got a Lenovo ideapad 100S two days ago and I have finally started attempting to installing things I had on my previous laptop: starting with my Yeti Blue Microphone.

I have an issue with how they're recognised on my laptop and yet they still don't work for recording programs or even the voice recorder app on windows that comes installed. I've looked at devices/recording devices/sound manager on my laptop and my Yeti mic does show up as a device that's plugged in. When I make a noise, say a clap or just a cour of words, the sound level bar only goes green for the laptop microphone and not on the bar for my Yeti. I've checked properties and it says that my usb mic is working well. I've gone and done other things (suggested by folks on audacity, on google, on other forums) but none of them seem to work! I've also tried it with a different mic (a samson GoMic) and it still isn't working on my laptop!

Please help!

Thank you!

I recently purchased a 100S 11".  By default, it has System Protection disabled, so it isn't creating restore points.  Should I enable it?  If so, what should I set as the maximum percentage of disk space to use?  Or is a 32GB disk too small to enable this important function?

HI, I recenty bought the Ideapad 100s  and am generally satisfied with it. But sometimes (about 7 out of 10 attempts), laptop does not turn off when I shutdown the computer. That is, the power light (one next to the battery light) is still on. In fact, I know that the computer is really not turned off because the battery life goes down when that happens.  So I have to press the power button for about 15 sec to actually turn off the computer. And I do not think manually turning off the computer like that is not good.  What might be the problem and how can I fix it?Thanks,

I have a question. My Ideapad 100s has just came back from repair. When it came back, I noticed a light shines through, from the inside of the computer. This is only visible in the dark. Before the repair, I have used it in the dark before, but I never noticed a light. I just want to know if this is a normal thing or if they did something wrong.I have had it for less than two months.

I have my new Lenovo ideapad and I need to change it to windows 10 64x (it's 32bit now). When I enter the F2 when rebooting, it won't let me switch and when I press the up and down button - it doesn't work. Somebody can help and walk me through the rebooting in order to install Windows 10 64x? I have it on my USB, to which I've downloaded it via Media Maker (I can't recall the name) of Windows.

My Ideapad 100S keep switching itself off. It does this even when plugged in.  Most times I can't keep it on long enough to reach my desktop. On switch on it starts with 'Preparing Automatic Repair'. Usually it then switches off again.  When I can get to the desktop the battery strength is shown as 0% plugged in , charging, but does jnot charge. The battery light is a permanent orange. Can anyone assist?

Hi, I have an Ideapad 100S and it is having trouble starting,  This is what I see,-White Power light on for a few seconds then,-Orange Battery LED flashes ~30 times (if connected to power this is a white LED)It attempts this a few times then switches off, then starts the flashing cycle again,on occasion it will start and work as normal (after a few rounds of the above flashing),- I did note that the initial time in windows was incorrect on the occasion it did load. it does the same thing if I use the Novo button (I tried to reset as described in the manual) On the occasion it does actually load into Windows it does all work, it just does not get into Windows very often?. thanks for any help.

Any experience how long it can take to finish Update? My Ideapad 500-15ISK received the Anniversary Update recently.  Unfortunately, I did not time it.  But the download took a long time (over an hour I think, at 16 Mbits/sec), and then the update took a long time (again over an hour I think; it could have been as much as two hours). The confusing aspect is that the "% complete" figure does not increase linearly.  It stays fixed for some time, then increases a lot, then stays fixed again... -- from CyberSimian in the UK

I have just bought the above, which advertises "long battery life", however when fully charged it tells me I only have 2hrs 55minutes of charge, then if I have my usual programs turned on (such as Lenova or Cloud etc), it tells me even less.Right now I only have my anti-virus going, and it is 2hrs 42mins, with 89% charge.    This is not what I paid for or whatis advertised.   Am I doing anything wrong here, or do I have a lemon??

Hi, I bought an ideapad 100s last week but I can't find anywhere whether or not it is bluetooth enabled. When I try to connect my devices the system can't find them.  The sound system on this laptop isn't fantastic and I would be wanting to watch quite a lot of films and listen to music, so knowing if there is the capacity for bluetooth would be good. Is there any way to find this out? Thanks Vicky

I got the Ideapad 100s last year. Works great, but a Windows update screwed it up, and I can't install ANY OS anymore. When I boot 10 from my USB, it freezes on the first setup screen. Even DEBIAN! It freezes on the language setup. It started doing this sort of recently. When it freezes, the power light goes out and the caps lock light doesnt turn on, so I have to force turn it off. The UEFI doesn't give me many options to change, besides secure boot, which I've tried both on and off. I've been trying different USB's, seeing if it was the stick issues, but so far, the boot menu doesn't detect them, except one of them. I want to be able to use this again, but at the moment, I can't. Help?

I recently just got a new Ideapad 100s and I have Windows 10 currently installed on the computer. I want to start using Linux, but I can't seem to boot the OS from my USB key. I have reached the BIOS on the computer, but there seems to be minimal options for the user to change. Below are links to two images of how the BIOS and Boot Menu look like currently. As you can see, the USB option is not available in the Boot Menu. Can someone instruct me on which settings I should change in order to start using Ubuntu?

Hi everyone, my 100s Ideapad recently had a charging issue where it won't charge unless you cram it in. So, I ordered a new charger off of Amazon with the same output voltage. However, when I plug the charger in, it doesn't show the charging light or turn on. I tried unplugging the battery and holding the button down, but it didn't work. The gold part inside the charging port is loose, I think that's what's wrong. Does anyone have any fixes?

I have a recently-purchased Lenovo 100s Ideapad 11iby Windows10.  After about a month of struggling to get the WiFi to work and get all of the W10 updates installed, it froze.  I did the Novo button complete reset to start over. when restarted, the keyboard and trackpad do not work.  I can't complete the install process because I can't type anything in. An external mouse works, and I can type using the on-screen keyboard, but that's all. now what?

I bought an IdeaPad 100s (11") and I hear a constant buzzing noise from the computer. The noise starts AFTER the "Lenovo loading page" (when windows starts) and stops only if I shutdown the computer.I tried installing HWMonitor to check temps and fans but the only strange (correct me if it's strange) thing is that the GPU was in full load all the time. All temps are ok.The first time I started the computer (when I bought it) there was no noise, it started after the 3rd (or 4th maybe) computer restart. The only thing I did was installing the Microsoft Office suite, Avast, Acrobat reader, Google Chrome and maybe some windows updates. Nothing else. The noise seems to come from the back of the display (or near there).I tried lowering the volume, unplug all the peripherals I connected to the computer, turning Bluetooth off. Nothing has changed. The computer is clean, I just installed the thing listed before and nothing else. Maybe some PDFs from university. The computer is brand new, and I really used to love it in the first days, but now with this noise it's making me crazy.I'm quite sure it's a software problem, because the noise starts only when windows starts.Any suggestion? How can I fix this? Please help me and sorry for my bad english.

I was taking a 40 day break from my computer ending on Sunday, put it in the basket. I was going to test the bootup, and when i push power, no light turns on. When i plug the adapter in, i hear a very quiet buzz noise from inside the computer, and i push the power button, still nothing happens, no lights, no boot. Is my computer dead or what? I just got this for Christmas. Is their a way to fix it, i hear taking the battery and unplugging the adapter and holding the power button for 30-60 seconds works on some Lenovo models, but the battery is not accessible without me having to mess with screw drivers. I want to have a good working lenovo. Should i mail this in to Lenovo, or is their a way to fix manually. -Isaac Schaff

The wifi signal is strong when I'm in the same room as the router, but if I'm in any other room in the house, even if its a room next door to the room with the router the signal is so weak, it's not even a full bar.  Everything else in the house works just fine on wifi, in the garage, outside etc, so it's just this computer.  What can I do to fix this?  Windows 10, Ideapad 100S, purchased Dec 2016.

First off, I'm going to say this laptop was a Christmas gift from a friend. I do not have ANY computers in this house aside from this one. I use this laptop for blogging and listening to music as well as job hunting, however, it will not register the keyboard or touchpad at all. I called Customer Support and the best answer they could give me was to bring it back to the store I got it from--this was an incompetent answer to the problem. I have tried touching and holding the power button for 15 seconds and when it restarts, the problem is not fixed. None of the keys are working. Period. I have a mouse for a gaming computer, however, I do not have a keyboard to plug in to use. If I could get a response to this, that would be GREAT!!! I cannot log in or do anything with my lap top right now and am currently stuck doing things from my cell phone.

I am trying to do a recovery for my 100S but at about 45% it says error and stops. Now the computer doesn't load windows and I'm stuck on the Lenovo screen. I thought I had a solution when I saw Lenovo had a Lenovo Recovery Digital Download Service (RDDS). Basically this allows me to create a USB drive that has the recovery on it. I tried it but at 10% it says error and then stops. Now the computer just keeps going into the boot menu and anything I select nothing happens. Right now my IdeaPad is a paperweight. I can't even get back into the recovery menu. Every time I startup it goes into the boot menu. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Ideapad 100s 14IBR Recovery not working

Hello Juanl1999Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Sounds like you will have an issue with your recovery, perhaps it got corrupted.

I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line and see if you can request a recovery media from the, they should be able to supply this for you, either CD or USB depending on the unit specs. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

I don't know which OS in on this unit, if it's 8 or 10 but when I power on the only screen I am seeing is the Boot Menu screen with 2 options showing exactly as below:

1; Windows Boot Manager
2. eMMC Card0: Sandisk iNAND 64gb

Any option I choose between those two then ENTER brings it back to that same screen, pressing ESC does the same thing. I tried F111 and F12 at power on to see if there is a recovery or reset option but only that boot screen shows up, help please?

So, I rebooted my laptop (to get viruses off of it) and it is now stuck on the bios password. I've looked stuff up on google, and I have given up. I am turning to the lenovo support pages to guide me. Help? All it says is system password on the screen and underneath it is OK and CANCEL. If I press CANCEL, it says Invalid password. If I press OK it says Invalid password. What should I do? It won't exit it either.
