Preferred Solution: SPeakers not working audio cant find speakers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am currently working on a homemade project in my free time called Project Surround. I am trying to get a full surround sound setup in my room. I have 2 wired speakers in the front and a Bluetooth speaker in the back. The problem is I need both the wired and Bluetooth speakers to play at the same time. Any way I can do that?

Answer:Play Audio from Wired Speakers and Bluetooth Speakers at the same time

Windows only allows one default audio playback device, thus unless you can find some third party app that will allow both, you won't be able to do that. You will need a full surround PC sound system.

I have a pair of Creative T40 speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack on my laptop. I got hold of a bluetooth speaker and that was recognised straight-away.

I have installed a large monitor (32inch) to the laptop on which I work as well as watch movies and play games. I was wondering if I could setup that audio, be it music, gaming audio or movie audio could be played through BOTH sets of speakers.

The main T40's are on either side of the monitor and I have the bluetooth speaker behind me on a shelf. That would, kind-of, give me surround sound. Or when I have people over I could get better sound if I could just move the bluetooth speaker to a different part of the room.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you.

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

Answer:Same audio through laptop speakers and external speakers

You answered your own question... It's a software/OS issue. If Vista's Realtek options in the Control Panel don't give you the same options as in Ubuntu, you're out of luck

I have 2 Samsung TV's hooked up to my PC, as well as a set of speakers. I am able to set the individual sound of each (Volume Control Panel), can set certain programs on a certain TVs or the speakers, I can set any of them as the default, but I can't figure out a way to male them all work at once, having all sounds pass through all three. Is this possible?

Answer:How do I make audio come out TV speakers and PC speakers simultaniously

Not that I'm aware. You can only set a single "default" device in Windows.

A week ago a bubble popped up on my desktop offering to clear space because i was running out of memory on my computer. I clicked it (shouldn't have) and it "cleared space" but now my computer won't play any sound. i have Dell speakers and they work fine because i can plug them into my ipod and play that. I already did the Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices-Audio tab but once I get to the audio tab this website tells me to click "Advanced" under "sound playback". However, I don't even have the option of clicking that button. it won't let me click it. Also, there is no Volume control icon on the bottom right corner of my screen (next to the clock). like there should be. I really need help

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Lots of sites have audio which is at least 10db below what it should be, but I do seem to have a low-level audio problem.

I can hear sound coming from my left and right speaker (there is also a woofer) but sound/speakers/properties only plays and shows sound from the left side.

Also in device manager I have multiple high-definition audio devices showing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

I'm using Windows 10 & about a month ago my AE speakers stopped working but only with my PC, I checked them on my son's PC and they were fine so it was not a problem with the speakers. This happened just after a Windows 10 update. A friend helped me fix this by doing a system restore and that was all good. Now it's happened again, the speaker icon on the taskbar just says 'No Audio Output Device is installed' I ran the troubleshooter and it says 'check audio device' which I've done and the speakers are fine. Then it says 'Hardware changes might not have been detected' Do I have to do another system restore? Have any of you guys had a problem with audio that could be to do with Windows 10?

Answer:Audio not working but speakers are fine

Go into Control Panel/Sound and select Playback Devices. Ensure that the correct device has been selected as the default, probably "speakers"

I got a new computer, and it appears the integrated sound card does 100% well on my 5.1 speakers. The new motherboard's integrated soundcard has 6 audio jack-ports in the back (the typical multi-colored jacks for front/back/center/side speakers). Problem is that my speaker system only has 1 audio jack for it to go out.

Now when I test each individual speaker, it only works for the front left/right speakers. Center/Back left+right do not work.

However when I play my music (and set my speaker to "Surround" mode, sound comes out of all speakers, but more of the volume comes from the front left/right speakers.

I've tried fiddling around in the sound settings int he Control Panel to find no solution. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem to this or not and if they managed to fix it.

I've thought about getting an optical cable and connecting it to the speaker sytem and to the computer, but I don't know if that'd help.

-Asus M4A785-M Motherboard (ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4A785-M)
-VIA VT1708S High Definition Audio 8-Channel Sound card
-Windows 7 64-bit
-Durabrand HT-395 Home Theater System (can't find a URL to this sytem since its pretty old)

Answer:VIA HD Audio Not Working w/ 5.1 Channel Speakers

This has nothing to do with Windows or the onboard audio, and everything to do with what and how you are connecting too. Found the manual for it here,

Durabrand HT395 Home Theater User Manual

If you are connecting to it using only a single cable from the computer to the HT, then you need to set it to stereo in the Windows settings as that is all that will be output. You then need to use the HT to upmix the stereo signal to surround.

Another option would be to use an optical cable from the motherboard to the HT and run it that way. At least using the optical connection anything that is native 5.1 will/should play back in 5.1 on the HT.

I have recently re-installed 'Creative Sound Blaster Audigy' onto my new hard drive. I have 5.1 speaker system but only 'back left' and 'back right' are working, wheras they were all working on my old drive. I have checked the wiring connections and all appears ok. I have also tried using Creative Audigy diagnostic tool but there appears to be a problem, even with this, because the 'Start Test' button is not available. Do you have any advice on how I can find out why the other speakers are not working. I have a suspicion that a new Motherboard fitted since the original "old hard drive" was installed but before my new one may be part of the problem because this did cause some problems when re-loading some other programs. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

Consider the following three scenarios: Scenario 1  connects Lenovo Thinkcentre MTM3493 PC to 3rd party external speakers.Using 3.5mm audio cable, sound comes from external speakers. The above scenario proves the Lenovo 3.5mm audio output jack works and Lenovo audio settings are correct to output sound via 3.5mm audio port. Scenario 2 connects Apple Macbook Air to ASUS MX279 monitor.Using DVI > HDMI cable, video works but no sound comes from monitor.Add 3.5mm audio cable and sound comes from monitor. The above scenario proves cables work, monitor speakers work, and monitor settings are correct to output sound. Scenario 3 connects Lenovo Thinkcentre MTM3493 PC to ASUS MX279 monitor.Using DVI > HDMI cable, video works but no sound comes from monitor.Add 3.5mm audio cable from PC to monitor, STILL NO SOUND COMES FROM MONITOR. I have repeated the test several times and result is the same each time. I cannot get 3.5mm audio to work from Lenovo to ASUS, even through I have proven that all components work and all settings are correct. How is this possible???

Answer:3.5mm audio port can't output to certain working speakers

DVI does not support sound.  Using a DVI->HDMI cable will not carry sound, since DVI connector does not provide sound.  So getting digital audio to your monitor via this digital cable approach is guaranteed to NOT work successfully.
3.5mm audio output is an analog audio output method.  I'm guessing it corresponds as a second analog audio output option if you have have also selected "speakers" as your default sound output using "playback devices" (right-click on speaker icon in System Tray, and select "playback devices" in the popup menu, and select "speakers"). The case simply sends the same analog audio to the 3.5mm jack as it's sending to the "lime green" analog audio speaker output.
I truly don't know anything firsthand about the Edge 92 but I know about Windows and analog vs. digital audio.  If "playback devices" has some digital audio output selected (e.g. to feed digital audio out over an optical connection, or digital audio out over a true HDMI connection from the video card if that were your setup), you would not typically expect to be simultaneously getting analog audio out over your "speakers".  Selecting a digital audio output option normally prevents any analog audio output.  So in my opinion, if you don't have "speakers" (i.e. analog audio) selected as your default audio output, you shouldn't also expect to simultaneously get 3.5mm analog audio out.
In other words I would actually be surprised if you could hav... Read more

So, the title says it all. The speakers of my Acer Predator 15 (Predator G9-591) are not working and taking a look at the HD Audio Manager says that the headphones jack is plugged in, even though there is nothing plugged in. I already used high pressure air cleaner, but that didn't work. I still think there is something wrong with the port.

I re-installed my drivers (based on the drivers from the Acer site), so I have no idea what else to do.

I'm running Windows 10.

I have been having trouble with my sound and audio the last few days.
I have a 5.1 sound system plugged into the onboard sound of the motherboard. Suddenly out of the blue I lost bass from the sub-woofer. I re-installed Realtek drivers and the problem went away but then came back.
Sound on some games has no bass, some games have no sound at all. Playing music sometimes give me bass, some games start with bass then loose it and vice versa.
Up until this my audio and sound has worked without problems for years so this is something that has recently happened.
I pulled the cable out slightly of the back of the sub and the bass started working again so I assumed it was a hardware problem. I tried different cables and it didn?t solve the problem. Then the centre speaker stopped producing sound.
I bought a new 5.1 system thinking that my old one was dying but I still had the same problem even with the new system. Again the bass on the sub was intermittent and the centre speaker was also not working correctly, the sound was very quiet, distorted and broken.
I thought there may be a problem with the on board sound so I decided to buy a dedicated sound card and got the Creative Sound Blaster Zx. After setting everything up and plugin in the new 5.1 system I was shocked to find the problem was still there.
Thinking the new 5.1 system I bought was faulty I went and bought yet another 5.1 system, and to my surprise, I still have the problem.

I just got a brand new Klipsch Promedia 2.1 system for my laptop.

These speakers have amazing ratings, and my friends who have had them before said the ones they had sounded amazing for them, and yet they, like me, notice the following problem in mine.

The bass is great, but for some reason my system seems too bassy. Like I know I can turn down the subwoofer, but it's as if all the low/bassy sounds are always drowning out the higher/vocals, which always seem to be a bit dulled down.

I have a Lenovo Y560p laptop with Realtek HD Audio. I was thinking perhaps I have this sound problem because it doesn't let me select 2.1 for my settings, and it's stuck on "stereo". I've tried downloading and installing drivers from Realtek's website.

I've had this problem for a few weeks now and haven't been able to solve it. When I play audio from any source, the sound is distorted and fuzzy. Sometimes when I restart the laptop then the audio plays as normal for a while, until I pause a video or load a new page and then the problem starts again. However, even when this happens, the audio is still perfectly fine if I play it through headphones.I have seen that there have been a few audio problems with notebooks and I've followed the recommended steps and installed the updated audio drivers but nothing has worked so far.Any help would be appreciated. Hello, I'm Artekis. A year ago, sevenforums helped solved my BSOD problem! Now I'm back for help on audio problems.

I recently noticed that the front audio ports of my Windows 7 PC do not work properly. I plugged in both speakers and my headset, and the right side of the speakers do not work as well as the right side of the headset cups.

The back audio ports work perfectly fine for both my headset and speakers. As a result, I can safely say that it's a problem with my front audio ports.

According to the Sound tab, I have VIA HD Audio, which is integrated audio on my ASUS motherboard. There also seems to be NVIDIA High Definition Audio in the sound controllers section of the device manager. According to some people on Sevenforums, it's used if you want to use a HDMI cable to connect audio from my PC to the TV? Is this correct?

So what should I do to get my front audio ports to work? I will gladly provide any information that can help solve my problem.

Edit: Just a little update, but the front audio panel worked perfectly fine from both cups of my headset for a couple of seconds after I restarted my computer. But it quickly switched back to the left cup working only. However, the mic jack in the front doesn't work at all.

Answer:Front Audio Jack, right sided speakers/cup not working

Check the front panel connection on the motherboard. Reseat the connection (unplug and then plug back in).
The front panel headphone jack may have developed a problem, which is not uncommon.

In an earlier thread, I was looking for help with rocksmith on PC, one of the things I was going to try is running my USB speakers from Amazon Basic directly through my motherboard audio, somehow, they do not work, I have enabled onboard audio in the BIOS, and I have a Razer Tiamat running through an Asus Xonar DSX PCI E slot. I have tried setting the speakers to the default device, but that does not work either, I have also tried disabling the sound card in device manager.

Answer:A100 Amazon USB speakers not working with onboard audio

Need help setting up Rocksmith 2014 for PC

I have also tried disabling the sound card in device manager.

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any devices with yellow flags? Or devices with Red X's? Yellow flags need drivers, Red X's are disabled devices. You cannot disable the Sound Card and expect sound to come out of it.
Make sure you have the USB cable plugged in and the Green Mini Audio jack plugged into the Green Audio input on the computer. Turn the knob of the powered speakers to On.

Go to Control Panel/Sound. Under Playback what is listed? Highlight Speakers or whatever Sound Device is listed and press the Configure button then Test. Does the Graph go up and down? If there is more then one Audio device then test all of them. If one is working that is not the Default Audio device then make that the default.
If there are yellow flags for Audio device in the Device Manager, go to the computer manufacturers support/download drivers, type in your Make and Model# and choose your version of Windows 10 (eg) 32 bit or 64 bit and download the Audio driver and any other drivers you need from the Device Manager for your model.

So after my hard disk crashed, i installed windows again, this time it was xp as I already had the key. After I had installed, my speakers are not working. I think they need some kind of drivers but in windows 7 I just plugged them in and they played. Its usb speakers from intel. Can someone please tell me where to get the driver for plug and play speakers from? When I at first plugged them in,the windows device wizard opened and told me to pinpoint the location from where I could get these drivers, i didnt have any so I clicked on dont remind of installing this driver again, and since then, the speaker icon in device manager has also been lost. It showed up in sound, video and game controllers but now all i see is an high definition audio bus in other devices.

The screenshot has been attached.

Also, someone please tell me what the ethernet controller is, it is also showing up in otehr devices with no driver, can someone please tell me how to fix it?

I just bought a new Logitech Z-560 set, which comes with 4 satellite speakers and a subwoofer. After connecting everything, the two rear speakers are only making a kind of hissing noise, while playing NO sounds at all. The front two speakers are playing music, which sounds bit distorted, but the subwoofer is giving off this loud annoying sound. It sounds like this deep bass sound that just won't go away, it's a constant deep bass sound. I connected the speakers to my sound card, which I believe is only 2-channel. Does 2-channel mean that I can only get 2 speakers to work, not 4? Any ideas why the woofer is making this annoying sound? I turned down the bass but it doesn't help. The front 2 speakers don't even play sounds clearly either.

As the title suggests, my internal speakers aren't working anymore since a day.
The sound is perfectly working when i plug in headphones (or external speakers).

Things i've tried include:
- checking all windows-related sound options
- restoring the laptop back to when it was working
- re-installing the drivers.

The speakers are shown playing in the sound configuration window when i play a sound, i just hear nothing...

If you have another suggestion, please share it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi All,  Having problems with getting good sound using external 2.1 speakers plugged into the headphone jack.  The issue is that I do not have any external speaker options available to me, either through Windows Speaker settings, or through the Conexant SmartAudio HD program. On Windows Speaker Configuration  I only get "left and right" speaker options, the "Surround Speakers" check box is greyed out, so not an option .  On the SmartAudio HD program , I do not have the Smart EQ / 3D Settings or Speaker Setup icons at the bottom. In the Help menu, it indicates that I should (?)  Using driver version I've updated the driver from the Lenovo site, still no 2.1 speaker options.  Thank you in advance for your assistance,  David

Just set the audio to output stereo to full range speakers: go to configuration screen, select "show small/big icons", tap on the "audio" or "sound" icon. In the new screen that pops up, select "speakers" (that conexant device) and click "configure". Click next and you'll see an option to select "full range speakers", and select the front ones. Click next again and save the settings. In that same audio tab, select preferences of the conexant device. In the new tab that opens, go to the 3D headphone setting and turn it off.If you wish, you can also turn off the Dolby settings, they don't improve anything.

Hello, I plugged in some headphones via the jack for the first time after owning my X301 for 2 months.  Ever since then, the laptop speakers stopped working!!!  If I want to hear anything, I now have to listen via my headphones.  The beeping I used to hear when I plug/unplug the AC adapter is gone, too.  I have Vista/32 Home Premium. Here is what I tried so far: -Pressed the mute/unmute button on the keyboard.-Adjusted the volume via the keyboard and from the Conexant icons in the taskbar.-Disabled/enabled the speaker and (and the microphone too) from the Conexant menus.-Disabled and enabled the Conexant sound hardware from the Vista Device Manager.-Updated the Conexant Audio Drivers from 4.92.5 to and then back to 4.92.5 (rebooted).-Enabled and disabled the beep options within the BIOS. I have noticed when sound is playing, the Conexant software visually indicates (via the green bar) for the speaker, but of course no sound comes from the speaker!  Lenovo tech support wants me to do a recovery or send the laptop in!  Help!Message Edited by toughluck on 08-09-2009 08:42 AM

Hello from Finland!, I'm a first time 'threader' (if that's a good term)..
Here's the problem, which I have been working on for many, many hours, to no avail!

I am using Windows xp home edition, with service pack 3, Amd athlon 64 cpu,
with an Asus A8N-E motherboard, the chipset of which is the nVidia nforce4 ultra.
Recently my chip fan went dead, although the computer still worked fine, I removed it (had to remove the graphics card, quite a few cables, then the motherboard to get behind it) and am in the process of getting the replacement (apparently the good folks at Asus know about these faulty fans), then I noticed that my speakers had gone dead. Everthing else is working fine. Pretty sure I've put it all back together again.
In sounds and audio devices it says 'no audio device', and in hardware my Realtek ac'97 is not listed. Also in device manager everthing is working properly, although again there is no Realtek listing.
Obviously I try to download the Ac'97 driver (I think it comes with the A8n-sli motherboard support cd) and then it comes up (in device mngr) but still doesn't work, and now there is an exclamation mark beside it in device manager, and it says that device will not work (code 10).
But since then I have:
1. Downloaded Everest and discovered that both pci/pnp audio, and pci/pnp network screens are blank, grey screens. This scares me almost as much as the famous bsod, which I have only thankfully seen on a teeshirt.. leading me to think... Read more

Answer:speakers not working, pci/pnp greyed out in Everest report, no audio devices found..

Are you using a separate Sound Card or is this onboard Sound? If it is onboard, make sure PCI sound is enabled in the bios. If it is a card, make sure the card is seated properly.

Dear all,

?wasapi? only works in the PC (windows 7) having playback devices like
?Speakers (SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio)" and
?Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)?

it doesn?t works , for the below playback devices.
"Speakers (3- High Definition Audio Device)?
?Speakers (High Definition Audio Device)?
For all the above cases it is giving following error.

D:\wasapi>coreaudio_wavfile_playback.exe --file "D:\\wasapi\Anode.wav"

Wave format in file is smaller than a WAVEFORMATEX; will zero-pad the last 2 bytes.

We are looking forward for your support for the following ?..
How to make wasapi working for all playback devices of windows 7 PC?s? Is it any installation and setup required in PC for this to work?
Is there any generic driver can be installed in Windows 7 PC to support wasapi?
How to check wasapi compatible playback devices in windows7?can we change playback devices if not wasapi supported?

Thanks & Regards

Answer:WASAPI is not working for Win7 "Speakers High Definition Audio Device

The default Windows installed "HD Audio Codec" is only a basic function sound driver and does not offer all the features that regular (e.g. Realtek) drivers do.

The preferred sound driver for a PC is either the PC Vendor's sound driver or in the case of a custom built system, the motherboard vendor's drivers.

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

Answer:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Answer:Internal speakers stay mute when external speakers disconnected

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.

When I connect external speakers, the internal speakers continue to play. So I have sound on both. Other laptops turn off the internal speakers when an extenal one is connected.
How to make the L500 also do the same?

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Also check the HDMI settings, and have a read of the Users Manual.

Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

Answer:External speakers do not turn off Qosmio x770 speakers

You may check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel.
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings?.
There, you could enable the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".
Now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and I select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Hi everyone,

I've been researching and pulling my hair out, and starting to think what I'm after is somehow not possible to achieve.

My goal is to be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic (narration), while also being able to playback ONLY my speakers to my headphones.

Basically, I wish to monitor ONLY the speaker audio, WITHOUT my mic (narration).

I thought I could achieve this by using Realtek HD Audio Manager, which allows you to playback two different audio streams simultaneously. However, it would seem that only certain Windows applications which are written to give you the option of changing the playback device can take advantage of this feature. The particular Windows application which I am recording does not give me that option.

So essentially I am wondering if there is a way to force an application to output to a particular playback device, ie. the Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output. The Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output would play to my headphones (application audio ONLY) while at the same time I would be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic all together at once.

I did find this post which broke my heart as it seems this might not be possible due to Windows only providing a single mixer, but wanted to try asking around here too -> Different audio output for certain programs [Solved] - Multimedia - Apps General Discussion

I had a home theater system I bought for a couple hundred bucks with the Dolby 5.1 speakers.

The CD/DVD player on the Home theater system broke after a couple of years. Not a big deal as it wasn't real expensive. Anyway, I went out and bought another cheap one.

Well, now I have these 5.1 Dolby speakers that sound great (I'm only a minor audiophile) to me. I went out and got a Creative Live 24 Bit 5.1 capable sound card.

It is worth mentioning that the 5.1 speakers each had there own individual port on the home theater system. In other words, while the Creative sound card has three output for the 5.1 system, the speakers I want to convert don't have the kind of set up right now to accomodate this.

Does anyone know how to transform 5.1 home theater speakers to 5.1 sound card with 3 sound outputs on a Create Live computer capable speakers? I can't imagine this has never been done before.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Answer:Transforming 5.1 Home Theater Speakers to 5.1 Computer speakers

If the amplifier has RCA input jacks for channels, you could just use three regular 3.5mm stereo jack - 2 x RCA cables, just connect them correctly.

Another alternative, if the option is available, is to use S/PDIF, but then you wouldn't get multichannel sound from games (lack of Dolby Digital encoding).

Hi! Please bear with me ... I will not be using the correct terminology, but hope I explain myself OK all the same!
I have a DELL studio XPS PC With Windows 7. I used to have a DELL screen, with a speaker section attached, which belonged to my previous DELL. (Altec Lansing 5650 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers with Subwoofer set).
I ditched this due to the plastic attachments breaking, and the fact that I could only get sound from 2 of the speakers, not all 4, after changing my PC. I therefore thought it was an unnecessary amount of "hardware" kicking around my desk just for getting sound out of 2 speakers.
So, I bought Creative T15 Wireless (Bluetooth) speakers, although I use the wire directly into my PC due to not having Bluetooth. These worked fine to begin with - OK sound, so not complaining.
Now, I'm not sure whether this happened simultaneously with buying a New screen (a Samsung 24") but all of a sudden I started getting very scratchy noises coming from the left speaker. This noise comes even when unplugged from my computer. I contacted Creative who said that if the speakers work when attached to my ipod/iphone then there is nothing wrong with them:

That means the speaker is good. If speaker is faulty, the issue will remain the same no matter as to what device you connect it. Issue seems to be with your computer sound card's audio out. Check the settings in your computer, playback application settings . Reinstall/update the compu... Read more

If I understand that statement, your speakers have the scratchy sound, even when unplugged from the computer. Does this happen if the monitor is powered off? (trying to determine if there is some radiation from the monitor that is affecting the speakers).

I just changed from Bose Companion 3 speakers to Companion 5 because the 3 died. The 3 system used a stereo jack plugged into the headphone jack and worked fine until the Bose power supply(?) failed. The 5 uses a USB to connect.

I have an HDMI cable from my TV set top box to computer. Selecting the HDMI input shows only full screen TV display on computer. Also there is a coax cable from set top box to TV tuner card in computer. This allows TV to be displayed via Media Center in an adjustable window and I can open other windows (a browser, for instance) simultaneously. I choose which connection to use on my computer.

Previously with the Companion 3 speakers all sound came from them no matter the source. Now with the 5 speakers the HDMI TV source the sound comes from computer speakers not the Bose speakers. But if I play my music files (using Media Player) or TV (using Media Center) the sound does come from Bose speakers. Also sound from internet (YouTube, news videos, etc.) comes through Bose speakers.

Maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution.

Answer:Some content from computer speakers and some from external speakers

I'm confused on where you plug in your hdmi set top box. Into your DISPLAY directly using and HDMI in port or some other HDMI in on your PC (like a graphics card?)

Also you have external computer speakers? do they plug in to your pc analog style? I know you said the Bose 5's are with usb.

Hi, hope you guys can help/guide me out.

So I receive a gift a couple of months ago, but did not have the chance to test it until now.

I have a set of audio speakers+sub-woofer, if you take a look at the pics (specially the back.jpg) the speakers are connected through a RCA cable, and where says input its a 3.5mm cable that goes into the computer (speakers output)

Now when I connected them to the PC, the sub-woofer and right speakers works fine, but the left is not producing audio at all. I find out that both speakers are working fine if I connected them in the red output/R, seems the left one is not working. At first I thought it was config of my PC I did download the latest drivers from Realtek Website, I tried the ones that comes from the DVD/Motherboard (ASROCK H81M-HDS) and same issue. I tried multiple settings from the audio devices (5.1 surround, quadraphonic, stereo) but no success.

Finally what I did is that I connected the system to my Galaxy S3 smartphone and another audio system as well and I have the same issue, no audio coming from the output Left/White, Subwoofer is working fine, and output/Red(Right) is working fine. I'm not sure if its due to the fact that system receives the signal from a 3.5mm cable and then has to send it through 3 outputs (L/R RCA speakers and the subwoofer)

What I'm trying to find out is, if this something related to the audio system itself, or does the PC and S3 need a configuration?
In case is something related (hardware) of the a... Read more

Answer:Audio 2.1 Speakers+Subwoofer, one speaker not outputting audio

As the speakers do the same thing on two different systems it says there is a problem with the speaker system. I see RCA connectors on the rear for the two speakers. Switch the connections (connect the right speaker to the Left jack and the left speaker to the right jack) and see if it follows the speaker or if its the Left output from the speaker base. That will isolate where the problem is. If its the speaker base unit, the problem could be the cable that connects to the PC or it could be an internal amplifier problem. However, in either case if the speaker system is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer for warranty assistance.

In most cases these are not made to be repaired, but I see screws holding the back on, the base unit, and you may be able to get into the electronics. However, without a schematic you are probably not going to find any problems.

Hi all,

I'd be grateful for any advice to my problem....

Last month I bought a new PC, a Dell XPS 8500 with an Intel Core i7-3770 processor. The PC has onboard audio (Realtek High Definition Audio).

I didn't buy new speakers as I have a perfectly usable set of Creative 6.1 speakers.

My problem is that although my computer plays Windows event sounds through all the speakers, applications such as iTunes only emit sound through the front pair.

I have googled the problem and as a result have configured the Realtek to use 7.1 audio but without the side pair.

Also, I have disabled the Realtek driver and have reloaded by asking Windows to select the best available.

But still the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:No audio except front speakers (Dell, Realtek Audio)

First, for proper operation you must use the Dell supplied sound driver. Non-Dell will either not work or install or will not work properly, and that includes the basic function Windows installed HD Audio Codec.

6.1 is an oddball speaker configuration for current technology systems, its either 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1.

I used to do a lot of support on the Dell users forum (community) and recall that certain applications will only play audio through "stereo" speakers only. My experience on the Dell forum (I had over 37,000 posts and am still registered) also is the reason I note the Dell supplied sound driver.

You could also post on the Dell community Desktop hardware section and one of the user experts there may have more suggestions.

i just recently had my hardrive reformatted and i dont have the drivers for my speakers anymore. can someone please help me find them? the speakers are Cyber Acoustics. two small satellites and 1 small sub woofer. please help. thanx.

Answer:cant find drivers for my speakers. please help!

Do you have the chipset cd that came with your computer/motherboard - it'll have the chipset drivers and should include the driver for any audio device on the motherboard ? If not , or if you have installed a PCI card (which would have come with a cd too , btw ) you need to identify the specific card you have and locate the appropriate driver for your operating system . You can usually do this via the manufacturer's website .

To identify your sound card right-click My Computer , click Properties/Hardware/Device Manager . There will most likely be a yellow question mark against your audio device in Sound , Video and Game Controllers .

I have realtek audio HD sound built into my motherboard. When I try and play music or movies through itunes or windows media player the sound only comes out of my front 2 speakers. I'm using 2 front and 2 rear speakers with a subwoofer currently and have it set up through the realtek audio manager that way. When I test it through that program the sound comes out of all 4 speakers perfectly. How do I get itunes and wmp to play sound through all 4 speakers even if it's only 2 channel audio? I appreciate any responses, thank you

Answer:How to get audio to 4 speakers instead of 2

You may have only one choice... Getting a PCI based sound card

Question: Audio Speakers

I have 4 in 1 speaker system of creative but while I am running in audio files, of any format only 2 speakers out of the 4 are producing sound. As far connections are concerned all the 4 are well and properly connected.
Can anyone solve this problem ?

Answer:Audio Speakers

Check your sound settings. Are you enabled for all 4 speakers? Use the Test button to see if you get sound from all 4.

Also, it will depend what you play. If the music is not in the correct format, it won't play back in that format. If it was recorded in 2-speaker stereo, it will play back that way unless something else is emulated (faked).

I am having trouble with my 5.1 surround speakers. This is a custom build machine, speakers worked fine, and then my wife has been using the computer. I'm not sure what she could have done. I have a USB headset that the audio plays from, but not the speakers. I plugged the speakers to another machine and they work. The volume is cranked. Device manager doesn't show any issues. I am totally stumped. Any ideas?

Answer:No audio from speakers

As always, clear CMOS. Has she been nosy inside the case? Try plugging in some other speakers into the analog audio interface I presume you're using.

I lost my audio to my external speakers(insignia brand) while watching the horse races on My PC speakers work, I can watch videos or Youtube with no problem, but when I return to to watch the horse racing, there is no audio. I checked all my connections and switched UCB plug-ins, but still no audio. I have power to speakers but what about the "black box"(woffer?), could that have gone bad?  I am prepared to buy a new one if necessary. Thank you.

Question: Speakers/Audio?

So I just got a new computer, but I didn't order speakers so I could use my own. But when I connect them to the computer, they're not recognized. So, then I used my iPod headphones but I didn't get any sound.

So I was wondering if I need to install some sort of audio codec or something because I noticed my previous computer had all sorts of codecs under 'Sounds, video and game controllers' in Device Manager.

Good morning everyone...It has been a long time since I have been on this great website.
Problem I am having is that I have a Netvista 8315-53u A30 desktop, that I won in a raffle, and connected new speakers to the desktop, and no sound, either from the cd or the old familiar Windows jingle at bootup..I am using the SoundMax software already installed on the desktop..Checked all volume controls, but still no sound..Device Manager shows all is there, and I click all soundmax and windows audio lines, and say all is operating correctly..I am stumped at this point..All connections are correct...CD-DVD player operate with no issues, movies come up and play, and very good picture quality..Cd's show playing in Media player, and or real player, still no sound..even tried headphones that I know operate, and no sound..

Any assistance to this problem would be appreciated...

Have a great New Year everyone....

First of all I've checked the other posts on this but can't see a solution in them.
Problem: PB laptop no sound since last update.
Checked the device properties and no fault flags showing. Tried the troubleshooter, but no problem found. Tried the update driver option but no newer driver available. The test speaker button in that box gives a sound. No sound to headphone output either. Checked the obvious, mute on/off...
No idea!

HP laptop cannot find 2 different bluetooth speakers, but it found and paired to my iphone and ipad.  My ipad is paired to said speakers, so it must be my HP, or windows 10, with the problem.  I have tried uploading driver from HP site and many other things posted but nothing has worked. Thanks,Cathy

ok i have windows 7 64 bit, before i updated my sound card my headphones would crackle with music, movies, any sound, now they don't crackle but the most annoying thing is when i unplug my headphones i have to click on the via hd sound deck icon at the bottom and click make speakers default, if i plug in headphones i have to do the same for the headphones in order for sound to work through which ever device i want. Imagebin - A place to slap up your images. how do i fix this where it works normally like its supposed too?

Answer:I need help with my audio, headphones and speakers.

Where did you get the driver update? From ASUS for your specific PC model? or from some other source? If it wasn't from ASUS, that may be the problem. Non-Vendor specific drivers may or may not work properly.

If it was from ASUS, there may be a Windows/sound driver corruption. First thing to try is go to the Device Manager. There should only be the entry for the VIA sound and possibly an HDMI audio (if you have that). If there is any other entry, such as HD Audio Codec, RIGHT click on that entry and then LEFT click Uninstall. Then restart the PC and see if that fixes it. If not, go back to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the VIA sound and then LEFT click Uninstall. DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the VIA sound. Check to see if it is now working OK.

I have an HP dv6000t laptop with XP. Recently, the internal speakers stopped working, and the only way for me to hear sounds is if I plug in headphones or external speakers.

Nothing is muted, and I noticed that when I open the 'Volume Control' window, then click on advanced on the bottom left, the 'Advanced Controls for Volume Control' window comes up and the Bass and Treble sliders are greyed out. They were not greyed out before.

If it helps, my Audio driver card thing is Conexant HD Audio and i believe the actual laptop internal speakers are altec Lansing.

Do you think uninstalling then reinstalling the audio driver will help? If so, can anyone point me to a step-by-step guide? I tried googling but i couldnt find anything really specific for my laptop.

Answer:No More Audio From Laptop Speakers.

Laptop audio can be such a pain!

Is there an external wheel or something to raise and lower the volume? Sometimes, it's set using the function key (fn) in conjunction with a couple of keys on the top right of the keyboard. Chances are you've disturbed some hardware setting rather than a software setting. Still, I'd think it would affect the speakers and external speakers evenly.

Always possible that whatever the speakers use to hook up has become disconnected . . .

I have windows 7, and my computer is fairly new (9 months) I have never had a problem with it before, then last week, Avast (free) all of a sudden started popping up with warnings about every 5-20 seconds that it blocked something malicious.  I ran Avast antivirus, malwarebyte, and Kaspersky, but found nothing.  I installed updates, on everything, still couldn't find the problem.  The next morning I began getting random sound from my speakers, sometimes music, sometimes what sounded like cooking show segments, and someone comparing the fashion on madmen.  sometimes more than one program would be talking at the same time.  Always sounded static-y like it was getting a bad connection.  Only stopped when I turned off my wireless modem.  A friend who does tech stuff for a living and knows more than I do (I thought) took it over the weekend and ran some anti spyware stuff, said he couldn't really find much wrong.  I got it back today, and the random speaker issue is still driving me nuts.  I took avast off and put Microsoft security essentials, so no more avast pop-ups but what is going on?
I have tried running rkill, then tdsskiller, then malwarebytes in that order both in normal and safe modes, but nothing comes up wrong.  What is wrong and What do I do?

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Are you getting same issue when you connect any external speaker or headphone?
May be this could be driver issue also, did you check with uninstalling and reinstalling the Audio driver once?
You can check downloading the latest driver from the below link.

Hi I have a X230 with no audio from the internal speakers, but audio from AUX is fine.First I tried new drivers, and then I reinstalled Windows. In Windows everything looks as it should. Being a certified technician, I first replaced the speakers. That didn't help, so then I replaced the motherboard. This didn't help either. I can't figure out what else to try, with new motherboard AND speakers, new windows installation, and all new drivers installed through System Update. This is a company computer, and we have many more X230 with the same image installed with no problems. I usually find a solution on my own, but this time I'm stuck. If someone has any tips please let me know.

Hey All. I'm running Vista Ultimate and I recently dicarded my dell speakers that came with my xps 400 b/c only the back ones worked and those cables were too long to use efficently (I don't need help on how to arrange my speakers, thats OK). The real problem is that my Sony MDR-E828 headphones won't work with the computer/the computer dosn't recognize them (so essentially I have no sound, other than the beeps that come out of the PC itself). Before I uninstalled the other speakers (after I had disconected them), the headphones only worked for the sound config (wher the CPU makes sound come out of the different speakers to identify them). Now, I can't get to any mixer or any thing else (sound test, ect.) b/c no speakers are installed, and when I plug the headphones in, all I get is static. I went to the Sony Tech support and there are no downloads for the headphones. I'm completely lost and soundless. Any suggestions on how to get the headphones working?

Answer:Audio through Headphones W/O speakers

Your sound should card (even if onboard type) should still work whether you have speakers attached or not and so should your headphones.

You don;t mention what sort of sound card you have.

So, make sure that if you have a sound card that your onboard sound card is turned off from the BIOS and the correct driver is installed.

Your headphones should also work with generic drivers if they are the fancy kind but normally, like with ordinary headphones Vista should detect headphones have been connected.

To me it sounds like your sound device is not configured correctly

Greetings folks, I hope I am not repeating this post. I have a T510. The internal microphone audio is coming through the speakers when I am not in an audio call or video call. As soon as I go into a audio or video call the mics quit working. I went through all the settings. None of the audio are muted. I do not know what else to do at this point. Help please.

Go to Solution.

Answer:T510 Mic audio in speakers!!!!!

The Reason why you still hear sound is because Windows 7 by default enables your device playback to be heard. You need to change this.- Right click on the Sound Icon in your system tray- Select your Mic from the list of Recording Devices- Right click and select Properties- Open the tab marked "Listen"- Uncheck "Listen to this Device"By doing this you can talk into your mic without hearing yourself. This will prevent the overlap when your mic picks up surrounding volume from your speakers.
Hope This Helps

I bought a ION.COM DJ 2 channel mixer complete with MIC and Headphones using 2 USB cables for connection to my PC. The guide says simple plug and play set up though I have found this not to be true.I connected up 1 then both USB cables to 2 spare USB ports on the back of my PC, both work naturally. My speakers are connected (They are PC Line ones) as normal. My problem is I cannot get sound from the Desktop speakers when the mixer is connected. I can get music and voice to the Headphones only though. All the controls on the mixer work fine so I know it's not the mixer. Obviously the speakers are fine too as when the mixer is not connected, music from the media player, games etc work fine. I have gone into Control Panel and into Sounds and Multimedia and ensured on the Audio Tab it is the device prefered as listed in this case as a "USB Audio Codec" both in Sound Playback and Sound Recording (as instructed in thier manual too). On board sound from the Motherboard is "Realtek AC97 audio" does not work when this is selected either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This has been driving me nuts for a while. I have an AOC i2367fh monitor with an audio jack. The sound is weak so I have a pair of logitech speakers that I plug in but then there's no audio through the monitors speakers or logitechs. Me headphones work fine in the port but not the speakers. Anyone ever come across this?

All the solutions I've found revolve around windows but as I've a PS3 there too and a hdmi switch for a connected TV this isn't a fix for me. I should mention that the monitor only has HDMI or VGA and I'm connected through the HDMI.

I just got new speakers, M-Audio AV 40, and everything seemed fine: the audio on itunes, fruity loops, my games, etc. were working. Then I went on the internet to watch some videos, but no sound is coming through (the videos still run). I tried turning up the volume, checking different sites, changing cables, tweaked around with the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, looked at the Device Manager, and checked the Adobe Flash settings- still no sound.

I don't know what else to do. Could someone please help me out?

Oh and also for some reason when I tried plugging in my other speakers, no sound whatsoever comes out of them. I'm hoping the problem isn't with my soundcard or computer itself .

The audio to my laptop has been going silent on me lately, and I'm not sure if it's being disabled by something, or if there is a bigger problem going on.

I don't exactly know what triggers it, it just seems to go out at random times. The only sure way I know to fix this, is to reboot my system. But I want to know why it decides to go out in the first place?

I only put my system to sleep when I'm done with it, and when I'm ready to use it again I wake it up. The audio will work fine for many more sleeps, until it comes time to reboot due to strange audio loss.

Can someone help me figure this out?

Answer:No audio will come out of speakers until reboot?

First your PC audio is NOT the NVIDIA HD Audio, its "IDT HD Audio". The NVIDIA is for HDMI audio.

Check to make sure you are using the HP supplied IDT HD Audio Codec driver. Non-Vendor drivers, in many cases, can cause problems.

Are you plugging in an HDMI cable? When you do that the sound automatically changes from the "Speakers" (IDT in your case) to HDMI as the default Sound Playback device.
