Preferred Solution: Trackpoint scrolling in reverse

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Reverse scrolling?

I'd like to reverse the touchpad scrolling from the current two finger swipe up to scroll down to two finger swipe down to scroll down, however, there is no option to reverse scrolling.  I'm sure there is a solution but I've looked everywhere and can't find a setting to change it.  Any advice is much appreciated!

Answer:Reverse scrolling?

On my 11s I can get there by going to control panel, "hardware & sound," then under the section called "devices and printers" click "mouse." Then, on the far right click "device settings."

Question: Reverse scrolling

Windows updated this morning and now the touchpad is scrolling in reverse. I have an ASUS and have gone into the ASUS Smart Gesture settings but whether "content moves reversely" is checked or unchecked, it has no effect on which direction the touchpad scrolls. I restarted but same thing.

Answer:Reverse scrolling

I run these from elevated (run as administrator) powershell window to reverse trackpad direction - you could try that.

The top line is for reversing up and down and the bottom for left/right.
Code:
Get-ItemProperty HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID\*\*\Device` Parameters FlipFlopWheel -EA 0 | ForEach-Object { Set-ItemProperty $_.PSPath FlipFlopWheel 1 }
Get-ItemProperty HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HID\*\*\Device` Parameters FlipFlopHScroll -EA 0 | ForEach-Object { Set-ItemProperty $_.PSPath FlipFlopHScroll 1 }

You can undo it by changing the 1 to 0 (shown in red above)...

By default, the two finger scrolling on my new ideapad s410p is like it is on a mac - move your fingers down to scroll up, and vice versa. I really hate this configuration, so I changed it. There is an option in the "device settings" tab in the "mouse" section of control panel that lets me uncheck the box saying "reverse scroll direction". However, whenever I lock and unlock my computer, it changes back. I can't keep the scrolling direction how I want it, and it's really infuriating. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hi Guys,

Just got a new G580 Lenovo and im already getting headaches.

Im assuming thanks to windows 8 the scrolling has turned "natural" and decided to reverse itself which if i didnt have to use many different PC's for work id just plain suck it and get used to it but i can see myself getting irritated at forgetting when i should be reverse scrolling and when i shouldnt.

How can i disabled this? I've checked the standard Synaptics settings and i get the option to have vertical scrolling on, or off. Thats the extent of the settings i get.

Its using Synaptics Touchpad V7.5 (Driver version 16.2.10).

Link to image

And whilst im posting, has anyone successfully installed windows 7 on a default pre-installed windows 8 laptop?

After giving up on getting the machine to attempt to boot from CD i got a Windows 7 Enterprise CD onto a bootable USB however only to find that the OS partition is GPT and not MBR (So the install threw a fit and said no). Without trashing the entire drive from another machine has anyone formatted the _OS partition and managed to get windows 7 on it? Dont really want to wipe the entire drive as ill lose the recovery partitions.

Cheers guys and Merry Christmas!

Answer:Reverse Scrolling of G580

hi Rbrewer,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Reverse Scrolling is a feature on certain Synaptic Touchpad Device, if you have already tried to install the Touchpad Driver v16.2.10.3,try to upgrade the Synaptics Touchpad Driver to v16.2.1. If it doesn't work, disabling this feature is not currently possible (unless you uninstall the Touchpad driver itself and use the windows generic driver)

In downgrading Windows 8 to Windows7, you will need to convert the GPT partition to MBR in order for you to install Windows 7. There are tools on how to convert GPT to MBR without losing data, check the following:

1. Gdisk, discussion here.
2. Disk Management Tool, discussion here.

For all other, the general way to convert GPT to MBR is this guide.

Goodluck!.

I do not like the reverse scrolling on my new hp pavilion x360 w/ windows 10. How do I turn it off.

Answer:How do I turn off the reverse scrolling?

If you're talking about scrolling with the trackpad, I would try to find the driver/settings for the trackpad and find that toggle. (sometimes made by Synaptics for example)
Sometimes they're added onto the mouse settings in Control Panel.

I have a T530 and I recently installed windows 8, which has reverse scrolling set as default.Even after installing the new ultranav drivers and unchecking the reverse scrolling option in the scroll section, each time I restart the machine, the settings are lost and I get reverse scrolling back. Its as if the system never registers the choice!!Anyone else noticed the same thing? Nothing in Lenovo support.

Answer:windows 8 reverse scrolling

I found a solution by someotherguy on this thread that should help solve this issue. Make sure you UltraNav Driver is current, v16.2.14.0 the update can be found here.

While the default 2-finger scrolling behavior in Win8 is indeed backwards, the latest driver on the support website (16.2.14.0) has an option to reverse the backwards Win8 behavior. Have you tried it?
Try setting AND clearing the checkbox to see if you can get the behavior you want. It seems the default behavior is very strange where 2-finger scrolling is backwards but 1-finger scrolling is correct. After setting and clearing the checkbox (and clicking Apply after each change).
Good Luck and please let me know if this solution helps you. Thank you for being a part of the Lenovo

I've discovered a small trick regarding the reverse scrolling issue. By default on two finger scroll, the touchpad behaves as a touch screen input and scrolls in the reverse direction of our fingers' motion (which is similar to touch based devices). But it might get annoying on a laptop. The simple trick is to use three fingers while scrolling. On three finger scroll the direction of scroll will the same as our fingers'.I've synaptics touchpad, and confirm this working on Windows 8.

I have a Yoga 900.  I use a Logitech wireless mouse that connects to my computer with USB receiver. I love the "natural scrolling" option that my trackpad uses (when I move my finger up, I want the screen to scroll down, like on a tablet).  However my USB mouse goes the opposite way.  It makes it really confusing having the 2 mouses scroll different directions.  I want to have them the same because I use each about half the time, so reversing the scrolling altogether won't work. How can I reverse the scrolling direction on my USB mouse while leaving the trackpad as-is? Thanks in advance!

I find that it is a bit of a pain when scrolling UP on the touch pad to move DOWN in the page. And I as go between my work computer (win7 Dell) and my home computer (win8 Lenovo) I always start off in the wrong direction.  I think this should be configurable by the user.  If enough folks comment / view on this maybe we can get a sympathetic ear.  Thoughts?

Hi, Does anyone know how to reverse scrolling direction on the touchpad for Lenovo Thinkpad T460 (Windows 10 OS)? These are the attempts I have tried but wasn't successful:1) Control panel > change "view by" to "small icons" > click "Mouse" (Can't find any settings that allows me to change scrolling direction)2) Type "Mouse & touchpad settings" on start menu > under the "mouse & touchpad" tab, I can't find settings here3) Type "Mouse & touchpad settings" on start menu > "additional mouse options" > (can't find anything here also) PS. By default, when I move two fingers up, the text/images on the screen goes up. This is not what I'm used to as Windows machines usually operate the opposite. Any helpful suggestions are much appreciated.

This took some digging and may not be the same or available on your laptop depending on touchpad manufacturer.  This is on my T450s with a Lenovo Win 10 install.

Search "mouse", select "mouse properties..", go to ThinkPad tab, click "settings", go to Scroll tab, un-tick "Switch Direction" check box.

Did a clean install to Win8 Pro on a W520.  Two finger scroll didn't work immediately after install,. but started (sort of) working after I installed the drivers available / listed for Win8 on the W520 driver matrix.  Problem is the scrolling is reversed, similar to how Apple inverted scrolling in OSx Lion.  I HATE this scrolling method! Apple gives you the option to turn it off, but I can't seem to find an equivalent in the Synaptics driver options.  I've tried various versions of the Ultranav and generic synaptics drivers with no luck.  Anyone else experience the same and / or found a solution? Thanks!

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling speed on X60

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs. There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available. The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics. This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer
*,*,*,*,*,PROCEXPL,Standard,0,25
; Notepad++ and Notepad2
*,*,*,*,*,Scintilla,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad2U,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad++,Standard,... Read more

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling not working

Excellent detective work both here and with one line scrolling; the TP4table.dat compatibility listing doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time.

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

If you need to reinstall the Trackpoint driver for your unit, here is the link below: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4KMUYL Download and save this file to the desktop and the open the folder and run the setup.exe file You might also need the Trackpoint Accessibility Driver, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Z9QVD See if installing these two drivers will help you. If the drivers are installed correctly and you are still having problems with the trackpoint scrolling, it could possibly be a mechancial issue and the part would need replacement. Let me know if this helps you any. Mark

Hi all, I apologise if this is dicussed and solved already elsewhere, I have searched in vain on various forums but can't seem to find an answer. I have just bought a new laptop and the touchpad scrolling is reversed, so that left makes the screen scroll right and up makes the screen scroll down and vice versa. This may be helpful for a touchpad, but on a laptop it's just irritating. Solutions seem to say, and indeed show, that within the settings there is a button to turn off reverse scrolling, however, this option is not present within my settings menu, only the option to change the pointer speed. For further clarity, it's the single finger scrolling I'm having an issue with- within the synaptics settings, there is an option to turn off reversed two finger scrolling and so that's fine. I appreciate any advice or assistance that you may be able to provide. Many thanks.

I've encountered a problem with the touchpad. After using a the "regular scrolling" option on a chromebook, having to break the habit by scrolling down by swiping up is no small annoyance. I also use a regular mouse often too, so simply reversing all scrolling would be hard to get used to.  I've looked online and found that other notebooks have a feature called "precision touchpad" that allows them to reverse scrolling. Naturally I decided to test the method myself by going to Mouse and Touchpad under PC Settings. Sadly there was nothing there to change scrolling.         Obviously that wouldn't do, so I kept up the search. I then stumbled upon another way to change scrolling direction through Mouse Properties. Going to the ClickPad Settings and enabling the scrolling option yielded no results.      Normally I'd love to fix things by myself, but this time I need some help. If anyone has any solutions, that would be amazing.

Hi all, I pretty much always use my Trackpoint to scroll (with the middle button). But several sites I visit see horizontal scrolls as triggers to change page. So, I'll be reading a page, scrolling down via the Trackpoint -- and at some point I'll have deviated enough from vertical to trigger the horizontal behavior -- and I'll then be shuttled off to a page I don't mean to be on. Is there any way to configure the Trackpoint scroll to ONLY scroll vertically? If not, is there perhaps a way to get Google Chrome to stop listening to the horizontal scroll? Thanks, it's actually quite a PITA for some sites I visit.

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

Hello, everyone! I'm having an issue with zooming inside autocad using the center mouse button on the laptop and the trackpoint. Whenever I try to zoom using the trackpoint, my drawing disappears and the entire autocad window seems to move up or down. Using the mousewheel on a USB mouse works just fine. Research about this issue reveals that it has been common for thinkpads since at least the T60, but all such questions go unanswered. Please tell me if there is a way to use the trackpoint to zoom and pan. I'd really like to enjoy the benefit of not having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse.

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

Hi, I am attempting to fix a problem with scrolling in Windows 10 (also applicable to Win 8/8.1). Everything works as it should within non-Windows programs, but "apps" and Windows OS screens do not allow scrolling. I am using the most recent (Windows 7) Lenovo driver. I have tried installing the Ultranav version (updated for Windows 8) but it will not allow it. Any ideas on how to get a working driver installed on this machine? Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling AND middle clicking

Yeah, this is easy in Linux can't we get some pressure to actually get this implemented properly in windows. Useability is the main reason i got a thinkpad it would be nice to know we could actually influence it in some way. (Bumping an old topic here)

Hi everyone, Just received my brand new Yoga X1 2nd gen and everything's fine. The only thing that drives me crazy is the scrolling direction when using the two finger scrolling on the touch pad. I want to reverse it as I'm used to it on all other computers I've ever used before. How do I do this? There're some articles, also in this forum, pointing to advanced settings of the Synaptics tab included in the mouse settings. But there is almost nothing to change, especially nothing relating to changing the direction. There must be a registry setting. Please help, so I can enjoy my new Yoga X1 :-) Cheers Georg

Touchpad doesn't respond, and when I press trackpoint middle button it acts as a mouse wheel (opens links in a new tab, scrolls only if I press it on the empty space) or sometimes doesn't work at all. I had drivers for ps/2 mouse and keyboard installed , if I try to install drivers from lenovo site, I get an error : Synaptics device not found!

I can use the mouse weel and everything smooth but when scolling with the TrackPoint it sems to always hang for 1 second half-way,. It may happen when CPU usage is 100%,  Chrome is well known for that. As I said It does not happen when using the ouse wheel so I think something could be done to prioritize the mouse driver. Look like the same problem people are havng with tackpad scrooling, Haven't tested, I'm not using it.

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 8918, which has Alps TrackPad and TrackPoint. However it is well known problem that when the computer is awaken from suspend or hibernation it loose ability to scroll (in my case TrackPoint stop scrolling with middle button pressed). I tested over 7 different ALPS driver versions found on the Internet, but any of the does not have scrolling type 1 for TrackPoint (standard smooth scrolling with scrollbar cursor). On couple forums people wrote that ALPS drivers from late 2010 have the problems with loosing scrolling fixed. However Lenovo Support did not release any new version of the driver for Windows 7 for model 8918 (with Alps stuff). Is it possible that someone at Lenovo would take mercy on us, users of 8918 with Windows 7, and release newest drivers from ALPS with all the stuff related to ThinkPads trackpoints???

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling hangs after awake from suspend

I believe you need the UltraNav drivers, not the ALPS drivers.

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Most of the time when I try to use the middle button to scroll, it starts off trying to scroll horizontally, which I then have to overcome to scroll vertically. It takes a lot of time and makes it easy to overshoot. I've been playing around with registry settings and the INI file, but haven't been able to figure it out. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would be OK with disabling horizontal scrolling entirely. There's a thread about this on another Thinkpad here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and/ThinkPad-13-TrackPoint-Disable-horizontal... There's a thread with a fix for the Synaptics Trackpoint here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/ThinkPad-Can-I-disable-TrackPoint-from-s...

I´ve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? Settings are therefore different than mine, I can not change the "gear box", but there must be a way, somehow?! Does someone has an idea? Thanks a lot in advance!!

Hi all, I really like using the Trackpoint to scroll. But an increaing number of Web sites react to horizontal scrolling by jumping to other pages. So, for example, if I'm reading down a page -- and if I need to use the Trackpoint to scroll down as I'm reading -- if I'm not perfectly vertical when I pull down on the Trackpoint, the Web site detects it as a horizontal scoll, and I get whisked off to another page. I can't be the only person having this problem? Is there some way to disable the Trackpoint from scrolling horizontally without disabling it from scrolling vertically?

I enabled the "tap zones" feature in the Synaptics touchpad settings and configured the zones to right click and middle click. I notice that sometimes the zones stop working while tapping and navigating are still ok. It turns out that scrolling with the middle button and the trackpoint somehow prevents the tap zones from working.A quick fix is to move the cursor using the trackpoint, move it again using the trackpad, then the zones will function normally. However the fix isn't permanent.I hope that Lenovo / Synaptics will address this small issue in the next touchpad driver update.

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Pardon me if this is too much of a software question, but yeah, I'm trying out Firefox 6, and while the browser seems less crashy, I can no longer side scroll by holding the middle mouse button and using the Trackpoint. It's a big deal for me. Scrolling with the Trackpoint is basically my favorite feature; to me, it feels even more convenient than a touch screen. Any one else notice this issue, or know how to solve it?

Answer:Side scrolling via Trackpoint broken in Firefox 6 [Thinkpad X220]

It works for me (Firefox 6.0.2). Try updating your UltraNav driver from the Lenovo support page. The latest is fairly new, dated August 23.

Issue 1: When I vertical scroll in a web page (Chrome & MSIE) by dragging TrackPoint (stick) while holding down left UltraNav button, the cursor moves but the web page fails to scroll, or demonstrates scroll latency of about .5 to 1 second behind the stick movement.  Sometimes, I have to try a couple times to get the scrolling to occur. Issue 2: Very often I must double click on UI buttons and web page links with the UltraNav button, when I should, traditionally, only have to click once. Received the T510 about 7 days ago.  i5, Win7 64bit, integrated graphics.  I've disabled all eye candy and set theme to classic.  Updated to latest available UltraNav and display driver.  I've tried just about every adjustment in the mouse and UltraNav settings, going as far as disabling the touchpad and touchpad filters. Synaptics driver info:Driver provider: SynapticsDriver date: 3/24/2011Driver version: 15.2.19.0Download from: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66898File: 6hgx37ww  This is truly annoying and I'm about to return this laptop.  I hate to resort to that.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I've used a T43 and T61 for the last 7 years at work and never had this issue.  I love T-model Thinkpads, but this is a poor experience.

1. Does vertical scroll work elsewhere? Like in Adobe Reader or a long Wordpad document?2. Same here; do clicks work elsewhere?I've only seen the delay when my CPU is being maxed out and SynTPEnh.exe doesn't intercept the middle-drag in time.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

I recently updated/upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. The default mouse settings is to scroll using two fingers. I want to go back to using one finger to scroll on the right side of my mouse pad on my laptop. I have tried the settings for the mouse including the advanced settings. I clicked on device settings and then settings underneath that, which led me to a different window. When I clicked on the scrolling portion, it gave me pinch zoom and rotating.
All other forums have told me there should be a one finger scroll and two finger scroll tab under scrolling. I don't know if this is an option for 8.1, or if I am just not finding where I should be looking, but this is an issue for me.
Thank you!

Answer:How do I change my mouse settings from two touch scrolling to one touch scrolling?

Check your laptop manufacturers website for trackpad/touchpad drivers for Windows 10.
My Thinkpad in the Mouse Settings (advanced) has a section for the trackpad and I can set this so perhaps your drivers are not up to date for your device. I know a friend had to manually download those for his Dell to make that work like he wanted.

This morning, I decided to make the jump to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, and I have to say, the design looks simpler to use, but this new OS software has done something with my touchpad. Originally, on my Windows 8.1, I was able to scroll through whatever web pages or folders in my computer with one finger using my touchpad. With this new update, initially, I thought it broke my touchpad completely, but the problem has been narrowed down to having to now use two fingers to scroll in the most awkward way as this touchpad doesn't seemed to be designed for two finger scrolling. Is there a way for me to change this back? Would I have to revert back to Windows 8.1 to get my one finger scrolling back?

The laptop I am using is a Gateway NE56R34u, and the touchpad is an ELAN. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Answer:How to change from two-finger scrolling back to one-finger scrolling?

Windows XP, servicepack 3 was running on my computer.

The computer would not boot up unless in Safe Mode.

While in Sade Mode with Networking, I was able to download from downloads.com Norton, EUsing (a registry cleaner) and do a virus scan with Norton from which nothing showed except four cookie type items that I deleted.

After figuring that I am unable to detect a virus, i should do what I have heard to do, put an XP disc in my computer and try to boot up from it.

Now, I am unable to get back to Safe Mode because the computer wants to set up the rest of the new XP install. I don't think I asked for that option, i only remeber asking for the repair option.

Now I am stuck and am concerned, hoping I can get back to where I was and fix the comptuer to get to my original everything before any of this started to happen.

Please help!

Answer:can I reverse what I have done?

You should be able to continue on and at some point, such as when it shows you the partitioning for your install, you should be able to not accept it and it will ask you if you want to discontinue the installation. Try that out.

Realistically, you could just power it off and reboot it and it should allow you to boot into Safe Mode because it never finished the setup from before.

Question: Need reverse DNS?

I am working at a company where they don't have reverse DNS set up in windows DNS. I set it up for them, but our corporate office deleted the zones. I was always of the impression that you NEEDED reverse DNS lookup if you had DNS installed.

What cases would you NOT need it? How can I explain to our corporate office that we need it if we do? I installed it because we were getting errors on our DC related to reverse lookup. Any help would be appreciated.

Question: Reverse DNS

I am working for a company that has an Email server for a few other companies. One of these companies can't email to verizon, aol, and other specific addresses. I think it has something to do with reverse DNS. I checked the postmaster error message and it said the Reverse DNS lookup for your IP address is failing.
Any help on how to set up Reverse DNS?

Thanks.

Answer:Reverse DNS

I'm not really sure what you are seeing. Every IP address (that's the numeric address) has a "common" domain name associated with it.

If you know the IP you should be able to "ping" it and see the domain name associated with it. Similarly if you ping the domain name, you should get the IP.

For example if you open a command prompt and enter:

ping www.techguy.org

you should see:

24.137.12.228

come up as the IP. You could paste that into an address line and get here.

If you run tracert 24.137.12.228

You should arrive at the destination domain

If you/they are not getting a Domain Name, the fault normally lies in the DNS servers which host the association. In that case, try the IP if you know it.

There is also a useful site here you can use for lookups:

http://www.dnsstuff.com/

Could it be they are being blocked for sending spam?

Question: Bind/Reverse DNS

Hi guys and girls,

Having a bit of an issue with bind9, trying to set up reverse dns for some ip addresses that (I believe) are delegated to my server.

Please excuse the fact that the ip addresses and hostnames have been psuedo'd, I apologise, but I am one of those people who doesn't like posting private information on the interwebs .

The ip address' I have been delegated are 1.2.3.4/8, and I am trying to use .4 and .5 as nameservers, and reverse them back to hostnames (rock and bullwinkle).

I.E. One of my users will put in:

Nameserver 1: rocky.test.com
Nameserver 2: bullwinkle.test.com

When they need to use my dns servers

Here's my RDNS file:

Code:

3.2.1.in-addr.arpa. IN SOA rocky.test.com postmaster.test.com. (
040701 ;Serial number
2008012201 ;Refresh
3600 ;Retry
604800 ;Expire
86400) ;Minimum TTL
test.com IN NS rocky.test.com
test.com IN NS bullwinkle.test.com

4 IN PTR rocky.test.com

And in named.conf:

Answer:Bind/Reverse DNS

Update:

Ok, I've fixed that part of things . Removing "test.com" from the NS lines seemed to fix it... I thought you were meant to have the top domain there? =/. Meh.

New issue, outside servers now trying to check up via mine, get the following:

Code:

Jan 23 00:00:34 m00 named[5083]: client 70.84.211.98#2875: query (cache) '1.2.3.4/ANY/IN' denied
Jan 23 00:00:42 m00 named[5083]: client 70.84.211.98#2925: query (cache) '1.2.3.4/ANY/IN' denied

It's denying them from doing a lookup... Isn't that going to stop it from propegating? Should I have this enabled? If so, how?

Thanks guys,

/Whitey

In my other post

http://www.3dspotlight.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=342

I asked if I could amplify the sound card`s audio out volume because it was too low on my headphones. I have a pair of speakers which have a headphone jack and it amplifies the sound enough but the problem is that the stupid speakers reverse the stereo on the headphones. This is not a problem when listening to music or just using the desktop but it is horrible when playing counterstrike. So my question is: Is there a way to reverse the general audio stereo or if possible just reverse it in counterstrike? Using my headphones the other way around is not an option because they are shaped in a way that makes it uncomfortable.

Answer:Is there a way to reverse stereo?

hola amigo mexicano
creo ke hay un software dando vueltas x ahi ke te deja hacer eso, si no tenes la opcion en el menu de sonido de tu tarjeta no creo entonces... no se me ocurre otra forma...

Hey mexican buddy

I am looking for a small freeware programme that will tell me what day of the week it was on any date that is prior to today. For example, the day of the week on the 10th of December 1873, or the 4th of June 1623.

I had a little programme years ago that did that and I lost it. I have googled 'reverse calendar' and there was nothing.

Can someone help?

Kind regards, whatapalaver

Answer:A 'reverse' calendar

It's called Perpetual Calendar. Lots of hits on Google. One example: http://www.infoplease.com/calendar.php

Question: Reverse printing

I have a strange problem on my XP Pro Dell computer. If I try to print a multi page document the printing starts out on the last page. If my printer (HP Deskjet 5740) lets me, I can choose the displayed page and print each page chronologically. But some printing doesn't allow this and it just takes off printing the last page first. Is there some kind of switch I can click to stop this madness?

I've got a couple of raritan KVM switches with emulation and I doubt that you can use these in reverse (one computer into the monitor/keyboard/mouse "output" and then one of the KVM "inputs" to one of the raritan KVM switch "inputs" and the other basic KVM input into another flat panel vga input (alongside my main monitor, just to monitor programs running on the non-internet computer. However, I've also got a basic 2 in, 1 out KVM switch without emulation, and I just wondered if I could use that in reverse instead of buying something like a dual-head vga video card? I'm guessing that when the basic kvm switch without a mouse & KB and only a monitor on one side, it would lock-up the non-internet box, though.

Answer:Can you use a KVM switch in reverse?

No, the KVM will not/cannot operate as a video "splitter" or dual video output from a single input.

The video driver electronics is completely one directional, designed to accept one of the two inputs, switching it to an output.

thanks

Answer:Reverse goodsnyc 2.9.14

Not quite understanding how you actually managed to achieve that, but anyway, there are various apps here that help with recovering data loss. Undelete Plus is a good app http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads38.html

Just an FYI...the version of GoodSync you are using is fairly old. You can get the latest here.

Can I run something that makes sure all of my folder Attributes are at the default settings?

I did something I didn't want to, based on this page . . . Windows command-line command to list hidden folders . . . http://superuser.com/questions/277379/windows-command-line-command-to-list-hidden-folders

I was trying to figure out if there were any errors in what my bat file was doing.

To get the output, I thought I should go to the "Startup" folder in cmd.exe, which is hidden, and run: Startup.bat > testlog.txt 2> testerrors.txt

To get there, I would have to un-hide some folders.

I found the above page, and ran the attrib command with those switches.

I think I did this in the C:\ProgramData folder (normally hidden)

I think that I put this in an elevated command prompt, based on the second answer . . . attrib -s -h -r /s /d *.*. and hit Enter

Maybe I just put this in . . . attrib -s -h -r /s /d

I thought, I'll just go fast and not think, nothing can happen . . . then, of course, I read on that same page, also, that this can alter your folder attributes . . . they should preface that with the word "CAUTION."

I think I did see a lot of "NOT ACCESSIBLE . . . " flashing by . . . it was doing something.

Is there any way to tell if I altered my folder attributes or not?

I cant seem to remember how to get my forward zone to automatically create and update my reverse zone... Anyone know of a way to automate the process?

Answer:Bind 9 and reverse DNS

I am sure you already have an answer to this but you can use the `make-localhost' script in the /etc/namedb directory to generate the reverse DNS files.

Does anyone know a website that allows for a search on a person and show a persons children. I know there are Genelogical sites for ancesters, but what about decendents? Any clue???

Answer:Geneology in reverse...

Hi, troy welcome to TSG.
Unfortunately, I have no answer to your question, just a comment.....

I'm pretty sure that someone would have to input the information into a database for that info to be available to you.

For instance, if you had children born to you this year, someone(you or your spouse, say) would have to enter the facts about the young ones' heritage into an online database...I don't see how it could be otherwise unless the hospital does something like that (very unlikely, but remotely possible), but then you would have to know exactly what database, or website to access. There would be records that you might could find if you knew the state, county, etc.

MY wife sorta got into this awhile back and I don't think she was able to use any website to help with her specific family name, rather, she got a program (Ultimate Family Tree) and had to start from scratch, building a database - but none of it was online - (I really don't know how hard she looked) though that option is there if you wish to create a website from one's own research.

I probably haven't told you anything you don't already know, so to answer your original query, I wish I did, but someone else might.....

Question: Reverse Backup

Hi, A friend of mine has brought me his Lenovo SL500 which at the weekend had some sort of blip when booting up.  In his panic to get it working again I beleive he has used the Lenovo maintenance software and managed to restore his laptop to a backup done in 2009!  Is there anyway of undoing this or has he, as I suspect, lost everything since that date? Regards, Matthew

Answer:Reverse Backup

hi sparks74,if you still have a backup later then the 2009 backup, then yes it is possible.

I have an odd situation. I am unable to get pop-ups that I want. I get no line at the top of the screen saying to temporarily allow popus. Even if I have turned off the pop-up blocker in Intenet Tools, I still can't get the pop-ups I want. Today, for example, there was a link in one of these forums that I wanted to go to, but when I clicked on it, I got a short message at the bottom saying that a popup was blocked and I could not go to the link.

Any body ever have this kind of a problem??

Answer:Reverse Pop-Up Problem

octogenarian,

You have not provided your Windows version or your Internet Explorer version.
I am assuming Internet Explorer.
If you have less than Internet Explorer 7 - I would recommend downloading that.
If you have 7. You may try resetting your security settings.
Tools > Internet Optoions > Security Tab -
Click - Default leve, or Reset All Zones to default level - or if you have added some custom settings you may try choosing - Custom - then where it says reset to and by default it would be - medium high - (unless you have changed it) hit reset. - Try medium high if yours is on high.
After closing and opening Internet Explorer - if pop ups do not work then -
You may try - Clicking on the Advanced tab - then choosing -
Reset Advanced settings, if after restarting Internet Explorer - that does not work.
You may try - disabling add ons - several at a time - until - hopefully your pop ups work.
A shortcut to that is also to hit the "Reset" on the Advanced tab - it states there that it will
disable Add ons - google toolbar, yahoo toolbar, and other BHO's.

You can always go back in and re-enable them by going to: Programs > Managing Add Ons - and choosing them - one at a time - and choosing to enable them.

If you are using Internet Explorer 8 - best of luck - I am not using that.
Also if you have no luck you can try a different browser - download locations listed below:

FireFox:

or Google's Chrome:

[H]owdy y'all !

does anyone know how to set reverse stereo in windows xp, either through some gui setting or registry?

i know some soundcard's drivers allow you to do this, and individual software apps- but i can't find the core windows setting!

Answer:Reverse Stereo in XP??

I think the only way is if the driver supports it. You may be able to hack you way around it, but nothing built in would allow you to switch the output.

I'm curious as to why, actually I never understood why that setting was even available.
