HP Spectre XT Hinge Problem

Question: HP Spectre XT Hinge Problem

Hi,I have the same problem that previous posts have described with my HP Spectre XT's left hinge. I am SUPER careful with my notebook. It hardly ever leaves the house, I am the only person who uses it - very gently.About 11 months ago, the screen went black in this same bottom left hand area and HP repaired it under warranty. I bought it from John Lewis who offer a 2 year warranty. However, it is now out of warranty and the hinge has caused the front plastic to lift off and the back to separate. I cannot close the lid for fear that the whole thing will fall apart. I did wonder whether the repair was guaranteed for a year - any ideas? How I can get it repaired please? This was a really expensive machine and this quality doesn't live up to expectations.Help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

So i got my x360 and I loved it, everything was going fine and no problems at all with it. But after about a month i noticed that the left hinge(looking at the screen in normal laptop use) was starting to wobble. It has gotten more loose since then and now if i have the screen at about 120 degrees and i hold both the screen and keyboard in separate hands and pull, i can see the gap between the screen and keyboard get bigger. Maybe around 2mm. In addition if i shake the laptop back and forth just a bit i can hear the hinge squeaking. Basically it feels like some gears are loose or and is just not normal because the right hinge has no problem what so ever and functions perfectly. I never droped my laptop or hit it in to something so i hope there is a fix for this because i realy need my laptop for college and i love the x360. Thanks.

I'm having problems with the hinge on my HP Spectre x360, it's crooked and appears to be a manufactoring problem. This might seem like a small and unremarkable problem but It's my understanding that because of this problem I'm also having problems with my laptop creaking like crazy. I've been trying out the same laptop at a local department store and that one does not have the same problem. It's really sad seeing as the laptop feels very premium in the material/build but the creaking makes me scared it will fall apart at any secound. Seeing as HP is such a large company I'm guessing that there will be no way for me to get this fixed but I decided to ask here before using some annoying fix like glue to stop the creaking. This is in-excusable for such an expensive product as this one. I'm not prepared to have paid around 2000$ to get a faulty product. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I have just noticed that the left-hand hinge on my HP Spectre laptop is not moving correctly and has become slack. This is the second problem I have had with this high specification and expensive laptop. My first purchase needed to be returned for replacement due to a known graphics issue. I tried to sending the question to the HP SupportDesk but the online tool checked my device warrantly and responed that my warranty had expired by 20 days. Can you please confirm if this hinge problem is known issue and is there any way to confirm if HP will help with the repair of the device. I looked on the forums and someone had the SAME problem as me. I'm not sure if it has been resolved but here is the link: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Hinge-issue-with-HP-Spectre-x36... Same thing happened to me. I had it for a month and was very happy with it. Then, when I was closing it today, there was a low, creaking sound. I opened it back up to see that the right hinge has been scratched. I looked inside and saw something poking out, like a piece of metal or something, that wasn't there before.  I really want to get the whole laptop replaced because I took really good care of it and can't stand scratches or marks. However, my warranty ran not long ago so I'm not sure if HP will still fix this for me.

Hi, I have bought my HP Spectre x360 Convertible for a week and I have an issue with the screen hinge. When I open or close the screen, one of the hinge makes a low noise like it is cracking. After I checked on it, I realised that the hinge are slightly uneven, which makes it touch the metal body. Not sure if this will makes an issue later on, but it already makes a scratch on the metal body when I open or close the lid. The sounds it makes is unpleasant to hear as well.Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks  Regards,Syed

Hi,So recently i started noticing that my hinge on my spectre was loose. Whilst i decided to try look past the issue and use the laptop normally, over the past couple of days the issue has magnified and i have noticed that it is at the point that when my laptop is closed. The screen doesn't align with the base.I haven't dropped it, nor have i excessively open and closed the lid or even for that matter used the 360 degrees tablet function.I am still well within my warranty and was interested in seeing as to what my options are, given the amount i spent on the laptop.Regards,Dylan

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

Hello, just today I've discovered an issue with my laptop (recently acquired). When closing it, the screen will hang over the bottom portion of the device by maybe about 1-2mm, sloping from the left to the right where it does properly rest. I notice as well that the medial joint of the left hinge where it connects with the screen is jutting out slightly, rather than resting flush as the right one does. I haven't had this device long and have pampered it as one would their own child, so this is of great concern to me. I can't recall whether or not I have insurance at this point, but I do have a copy of my receipt on my home desktop.I am trying to include photos I took demonstrating my specific issues with measurements, but they exceed file size limit. If one would wish to see said images, I will happily supply if presented a means to do so. I wish to hear back soon, thank you for your time.

Hi, I bought my HP Spectre x360 on February 1st, 2016. In the past few weeks I have noticed that both hinges have become loose and pull away from the lower portion of the computer. I am worried it will break completely in the next few months. I tried going to the support page on the HP website but contantly get a 404 error when I select my computer model. This was a large purchase for me and I am not happy that this premium product is having hardware issues in less than a year.

It is as if one of the hinge is broken or slipped a gear. Any Ideas on how to fix this?I bought instore at best buy in Washington DC but I don´t live in the USA.

After I have been using spectre x360 for a couple weeks, I noticed that the hinge is quite loose particularly at 90 to 180 degrees. And I can wobble it at some point without using any force. Moreover, when I hold the base while the screen is more than 90 degrees and shake the notebook a little bit, the screen will bend far to the back. It looks like the hinge is too loose and can not hold the weight of the screen. Is there any way to tighten it?Thanks.

I purchased a Spectre x360 almost two years ago (Sept. 2015) and the laptop worked fine. After about two months, I noticed the hinges did not line up as cleanly but the laptop still opened, closed and folded back without issue. I recently opened my laptop and noticed that the right hinge is shaky and that the screen wobbles a lot because of it. This seems to be a purely physical issue as I "pop" the hinge back into place and it secures. While the screen is still shaky, I am less worried about it this way. I have never dropped my laptop, haven't travelled with it and it sits flat on my desk 99% of the time. How should I proceed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi everyone, i'm posting on this forum because after just a year i noticed that my left hinge on the Hp Spectre X360 is a bit unstable and this problem it's really annoying! I have another year for the legal warranty but the problem is that the HP Service Pack is just expired. So i wanted to ask on this forum if there's someone else who had the same problem and how can i resolve it. Probably there's something i can do before paying another Service Pack and sending my computer to the assistance. Thanks for answers!

The left hinge on my Envy Spectre XT ultrabook has broken.  I have looked after my laptop meticulously (after all, it cost a lot of money) and there is no reason for the hinge breaking.  The warranty has expired but it seems to me that HP has some responsibility for repair given the shoddy nature of the hinge.  I always thought HP produced quality products but the hinges are only plastic - what can I do now?

Hi,  I have had my spextre for just over a year now. About 6 months or so ago I started to notice the screen wobble a little more, I played it off as nothing. Not so long ago I notice the left hinge is loose, and that is the source of the wobble on the screen. It seems as though the left hinge can be pushed in towards the laptop a couple of mm signlalling to me it is not properly secured. Is there a fix for this? TIA!

Hi dears,I've bought in my country (Italy) the Spectre x360 (2015 edition), model 4102nl, 8gb RAM, 256 SSD, i7, QHD display in september, so it's two months old.Since first day I've unboxed my Spectre, I've noticed what looks like a manufacturing defect, despite it's very tiny.My right hinge isn't aligned with the display lid, compared to left hinge and it sticks out from the lid less than 1mm. The left hinge doesn't sticks out.Furthermore, when I open the display lid sometimes (usually when I close the display totally) I can hear a very faint noise coming from the right hinge.Could this lead to breaking itself in the immediate future? Can this cause the display glass to break because of its misalignment?I'd like to avoid to send it to service because I need the laptop for work, only in the case it doesn't cause any problem in the future.I've attached some images examples and a video with the faint sound when opening it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2j6u3jpL6M left hinge from top  left hinge from side (the good one) right hinge (assumed to be defective) from the topright hinge (assumed to be defective) from the side. Hello.  I noticed that the two hinges are slightly uneven.  The right one is slightly higher than the left (which is flush with the base).  It doesn't make the screen uneven or touch the desk.  Just before noticing this, I had applied some pressure directly to the left hinge. Is this OK?  Is there a cause for concern? This is my first 360 laptop and I'm particularly concerned about the durability of these hinges. Thank you!

So I got a brand new13 inch HP Spectre X360 on August 24. I really wanted this laptop over the Mac because I felt it was lighter than a Pro, more powerful than an Air, had a great display, plus was more vessatile than the two due to its rotation capability. To my disappointment, I quickly found out the trackpad seemed loose (you could feel a slight rattle by lightly pressing down the middle). 15 days later, I exchanged it at Best Buy only to find, low and behold, my new one having the same exact issue with the trackpad. Not only that, but I feel that even the screen hinge is ever so slightly loose. Not that it moves in laptop, tent, or presentation mode -- but when I type quick I feel the screen shake just a tiny bit. Moreover, when in tablet mode, the two halves of the computer (the screen and back of the keyboard underneath it) don't stick together. They pry apart about an inch. I called HP and they said it could be my particular local Best Buy bought a bad bunch or something? I did see other threads on here with people complaining about the trackpad, and some have suggested that there are some 'malfunctioned' unitss and that if one were to keep exchanging, they would eventually get a good one. I also have slight cackling of speakers without headphones when playing music. So should I exchange for a second time? Would Best Buy be upset -- do they have a limit on this sort of thing? And if it helps, I have the three year warranty/Geek Squad tech support package... Read more

It is bad enough that Dell makes a product with a defect affecting many of their unuts (bad hinge design/manufacture), but then makes a statement that part is specifically not covered under any of their warranties.

Question: Hinge Problem

Hi, It seems that my right hinge is "stuck" on my z60m. The only way I can move it is to use a pair of pliers...  I noticed the problem because the plastic that the hinge screws into ripped off of the LCD top.  The hinge is still screwed in to the plastic but completely seperated from the LCD.  I don't think buying new hinges will solver the problem because the plastic is ripped off of the LCD as well as the bezel. Would super glue and some grease fix the issue?  I am worried about contaminating electronics with grease (creep based thought). Thnks

Answer:Hinge Problem

Can you post a picture of the damage that has occurred? You would probably need something more substantial than superglue to get the casing to stick together. There are second hand Z60m casing available on ebay.

I've had the G50-80 for not even a year and I've been noticing a lot of problems with my laptop. I use this laptop as a desktop so it stays on my desk (15 inch). Here are some problems that have been occurring: Screws keep falling outWhen I open the laptop, the case gets caught (Hinge is now loose and caused a bright blob on the screen)Track pad moves randomly and zooms in/out randomlyBattery is really weakMy main concern is regarding the hinge. Whenever I open my laptop the screen's case lifts the bottom case apart. Due to this, I contacted Lenovo but they said that the warranty did not cover exterior damages. It's really disappointing and frustrating to see my laptop go through all these problems even when I take excellent care of the laptop. What should I do? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Question: X60 hinge problem

Have been using a reliable X60 for 4 years.Upgraded RAM and Harddrive - apart from some over heating - it still still going strong.Unfortunately the hinge is sort of broken - screen won't stay open on it's own now. Can't bent back. Too scared to turn it round - I can see something broken and by peeking through the gap I can even see the cable. Keeping it at home using it as a desktop at the moment. Closing and opening - the screen turning off/on still ok. (phew!) Is this repairable? expensive to get it repaired?

Answer:X60 hinge problem

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62866 sure it's repairable.  the best thing about thinkpads is that compared to any other notebook, they are the easiest to take apart and fix.  you can find parts reasonable on ebay and you need a set of notebook screwdrivers.   if you have someone work on it, yes, it can be expensive. if you plan to tackle this yourself, while you're at it take the fan and heatsink off and put new thermal paste on it.  blow the whole thing out with a can of air  and you'll give it a new lease on life.  an x60 is still competitive with today's notebooks and the build quality on it is excellent.   you just need a little patience.

Question: Hinge problem

Hi. I have had my HP Envy for a few years, and i love this laptop. I began having trouble with the left hinge a couple of years ago. It would crack when i opened and closed the lid. Then it began seperating a little bit.  I used the laptop less and less to avoid having any further issues but it has seems to have gotten worse. the right side of the laptop is becoming effected.  I spent a great deal of money on this laptop and i do not want to buy another one. What are my options? I saw that many others are having the same issues with this computer. is there a recall?

I've had a G50-80 for about eight months now. Used in the home and stays on a table about 90% of the time. Recently I've noticed that if I try to move the screen, that the lower casing starts coming apart in the top right (near the optical drive). Not sure if this is a casing issue, a hinge problem, or a design flaw with the system. Contacted Lenovo and was told that the warranty I have doesn't cover physical damage to the system. They say send it in for a repair quote.Has anyone experienced a similar issue? If the warranty doesn't cover this I'm just going to have to take it to a local repair shop because I lack the tools/know-how to confidently make the fixes needed. It runs fine from an operational standpoint. But it's continuing to worsen with more use despite how careful I am. Any thoughts would help.

Answer:G50-80 hinge problem?

Hi njp ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Was there any evidence of cracks or physically damage thru accidents like fexternal force, falls and such?
Was the issue you are having just presents loose hinges .

Usually tech support would be asking for pictures to evaluate , mechanical failure or possibility of external force damaging it. Would you have those image posted too?

Herewith is the hardware manual for your model for reference .

Update us how it goes.

Hey I bought this lenovo g 570. 6months later had this know issue of hinge so I went back to shop from where I bought it n they got it repaired as it was in warranty. It happened again after 4 months so I tighten up the screws myself, it was working fine. Now its giving problem again and now something is broken inside as it can be seen I went back to shop and they says its not in warranty so they will charge. This is ridiculous because this is know popular problem you guys can't fix it and still charging us to get it fixed every 6 months. Its not my **bleep**ing problem that warranty expired, when it was in warranty why the hell u guys didn't fix it properly. Does it mean we need to pay every 6 months to get it repaired? Does it mean we need to pay because u guys can't find solution? This is not enough I called customer care service, explained this stupid guy everything n he repeated this "sorry we can't do it for free"stupid line 4-5 times while I'm still trying to explain what's happening. I got frustrated and told him get your manager. Guess what he told me to wait and never came back. I waited for 7 minutes n hung up.Can anybody help me in this??

Answer:y50 non touch hinge problem

Hi,  Im not sure how to post problems on this forum but I am having the exact problem with mine, Y50 non touch. I bought it last year 12 April 2015 and I noticed in november 2015 that my laptop was making a weird noise when opening the screen. Then in December I saw that when I was opening the screen it was pushing the casing apart on the left side. Im pretty sure the hinge is seizing which is forcing the plastic seam to split open when closing and opening. Im sure mine will eventually break aswell. I Just spoke with Lenovo support and they said although my laptop is under warranty it does not cover this and I would have to send it in at my expense, where they will assess it and then tell me how much it will cost to fix it. This is my first Lenovo latop and experience with them and probably my last. If Lenovo wants to treat their customers like this then I will take my business elsewhere.  Sorry I could not be of help, but Im guessing their response to you will be the same.

Some time ago hinge in my laptop started to break, so I used an adhesive tape to hold it. It was fine, but it started to fracture. I thoughtlessly cut tape to see what is going on and accidentally broke it even more. Then I closed the lid, oppened again and  my screen has stopped working. I have tried to don't damage the wires inside while oppening, so I think this is caused because of the broken detector of position of the lid. The hinge can not even raise the screen. Now I am going to buy new hinge and replace it, but I don't know how to replace it without dealing even more damage, fix the wires are damaged and where I can find a cheap one. Using this laptop through HDMI is really unconfortable, so I want to fix it.

Dear Mr Mark,  I bought my dream machine Y-510 after years of savings in India, despite my extreme care one day while opening the lap a jerk sound came and right side hinge came off, I was literally shattered as I have used up all my savings for this machine and at last the fate like this. I contacted the authorised service centre in India they told its a common problem in Y-510 nothing can be done as warranty has lapsed I have to bear the expenses to the tune of Rs 21000/-. As I was moving to Singapore in a short period and the amount to hefty to bear I left as it is.  From this forum it was learnt that as it was a design flaw Lenovo has been gracious enough even to repair out of warranty machine. As advised by you in the forum Once again I contacted the customer care in Singapore  they directed me to the service centre I visited the service centre they told they have direction on this nothing can be done All that can be done is I have to bear the cost of repair or else I use the machine as a desktop as  there is no other problem. Its really shocking how a responsible company like Lenovo address the design flaws like this???????????

Hi, i'm a student that has received one of these laptops, however the hinge has broken and i was wondering if some things could be clarified by the lenovo support or whether i could receive some assistance.I've dug around the forums and discovered there have been threads about this. My hinge has a problem that looks almost identical to this picture, which was linked in a forum post http://s517.photobucket.com/user/Kolobolo123/media/loosehinge.jpg.html#/user/Kolobolo123/media/loose....However from your site i have discovered this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/downloads/detail.page?DocID=PD022421, does this page mean that it is possible to repair the laptop by simply replacing the hinge and screws?I would like to know the answer as soon as possible, also is it possible to link me to the Lenovo replacement parts page? I would be extremely appreciative if you could answer my post, Thank You.

I have a Dell 5200 Inspirion - bought it July 2015 (my third Dell laptop). About four months ago, the plastic mounts in the base (not the display lid) snapped due to pressure from the hinge. Never dropped. Never bumped. A familiar story, it seems.
I really don't have time to mess around and fix this kind of thing - saw various YouTube vids that explain how to do the job - and threw up my hands.
I looked around at other laptops - Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, Acer - they ALL have hinge problems. Apparently, in the rush to make laptops as thin and light as possible, they skimped on the engineering. Looking at the inside of the case, I'm surprised that these machines don't have more problems.
Want a laptop without a hinge problem? Buy a Mac.
Looks like I'm going to have to buckle down and take this box apart. I'm using gorilla glue.

I bought a Lenovo Y560 notebook on 16 Nov. 2010, and now within a month I discover that the hinges are busting off the plastic, a cracking sound of plastic comes from inside. The left hinge is really loosening from its support. Also, my 2-3 pixels are dead. These dark spots are really annoying and that too very soon. It's just a month and problems have started to show off. What the ? I didn't expect these too quick. This is really annoying. Is it under warranty, or I can get my notebook replaced or is there any way that I can have my money refunded. Please if anyone knows about it, then reply soon.

Anyone having trouble  with the hinge problem? If you were able to solve the problem, what was the process?  For poeple that are wondering about Lenovo's attitude towards their hinge problem, here is my story: About 8 months ago, I purchased a lenovo y50 laptop touch that is under 1 year limited warranty. OnMarch 4, 2016, the laptop monitor hinge broke. After a quick searchon google using key words "y50 hinge" i found out the design is defective and it has been the casesince 2014.  I was asked to send the computer in for repair and I was told it will take more than 3 month to repair the laptop. I got in contact with my case manager, and I was offered the option for refund of $652.12 . Keep inmind that I had to follow up with my replies just to get an answer from my case manager. I requested a call backfrom her and I never got a response. After one month of sending in my laptop, I was notified that computer has been repaired and it is being shipped back to me. I checked the tracking number provided and only to find that it is being send to North Carolina ( I live in California). On March 28,2016, I called lenovo support and was told that there was a mistake in shipping address. Support told me they have already bring this to the attention of my case manager and I should receive a call within 2 or 3 business day. Athe next day, I called 3 times, left a voice mail and got no response. I called suppor... Read more

Question: Left Hinge problem

We have purchase our HP Envy TS 15 from Costco online about 3 years ago. The warranty has expired. About couple of months ago I saw the left hinge seperating from the casing. It makes a clicking sound when the screen is closed/opened. I am not sure if may be getting worse. But today, not sure if this is related but I realized the battery was drained and although the computer was plugged, it was not charging.  After reading numerous other posts on this hinge issue, I wanted to see if HP can provide a path forward to resolve the issue and repair my computer. Thanks for your time, Alp

I have a z14 that is several years old. I've been very happy with it and it continues to work well - with one problem.
I noticed a few months ago that opening the lid failed to wake up the laptop. I often leave it running and plugged in while at home. I just close the lid and it goes to sleep. Open it the lid, and it prompts for login. But no any more.
Then I discovered that there is apparently something amiss with the connection to the display. It acts like it is dirty or worn in some way. If I move the lid forward and backward, the display cuts in and out. Often when I boot up, I have to move it back and forth in order to see the login screen and continue. It's getting worse. I have also found that if I hold the side of the lid / screen and exert a light twisting pressure, the screen goes off and on.
What is the mechanism through which the laptop detects an open and closed lid? I was thinking it might be associated with the hinges, but from information I've seen, that doesn't seem to be the case. My hinges, btw, are tight and seem fine.
When the display is working, it works just fine. It's either on and fine, or off it seems.
Where should I start to diagnose this problem?
Thanks for any advice or information you can share.
Tom

Answer:z14 Hinge or Connector Problem - I think

There's usually a magnet located somewhere in the lid and a switch in the palmrest that trips the cut off.  The other issue could be a loose connection or faulty LVDS cable (the one that runs between the back of the screen and the mainboard.
Does an external monitor cut out at the same time as the internal one does when the display is moved?  If not, the problem isn't the lid switch-- it's more likely the video cable.

My laptop hinge has cracked. There has been no trauma to the laptop at all. It simply cracked one day while I was opening the laptop. The border of the screen has a crack in it and is causing a separation from the screen. I actually have had to put tape on this area to keep it together and to keep it from breaking more. I've read a lot of individuals having the same problem with this same model laptop and I'm disappointed. I spent over $1k on this laptop and thought I'd get more than a couple of years out of it. I hope that HP will stand behind its product and repair this without cost to me since this is clearly a known issue in the model.

The Hinge on my HP OMEN makes a loud creaking noise when I open and close it sometimes. The volume of the sound varies from no sound at all to an extremely loud sound. At first I thought this could be from the metal expanding or contracting and just being a bit tight but it appears the left side of the hinge has a huge gap as compared to the right side. (Multiple millimeter gap on the left and almost no gap at all on the right. I've looked this problem up and it appears others have had the same issue as I have and many have had issues with the hinge in general. Is there someway I can take apart the hinge safely and fix it myself or bring it to somehow who can fix it for very cheap or free? Thanks

Last night, I accidentally dropped my computer, it is an HP Probook 450 G2. The thing is, there's a few problems now. 1. One of the hinge caps (on the right) broke off, I can't find the piece2. The very small cap is gone, and so is the screw with it.3. The hinge is exposed.4. Part of the bezel is coming off. Here are some pictures.Exposed hinge, no hinge cap. Part of bezel off. Cap off and screw off. It seems to work ok, but I know I'll need to fix it.  To fix it, what parts will I need and what will I need to do? Thank you.

I've seen quite a few issues with the dv7 hinge, and now it seems to be affecting me as well. I've had this laptop since 2012, and while it's an amazing computer, the hinge seems to be a large issue across the community. Nearly every forum I've searched on HP tends to have an associate help through private messaging, so I can't seem to find a solution that can help me. The hinge on the right side of the screen is making popping and cracking sounds when I open and close the laptop, actually opening the inside of the laptop in the process. I believe this is also causing an issue with the issue, since the fan continues to go crazy after a few minutes of any semi-intensive processes. I've since had to leave my notebook open due to the increasing severity of the hinge looseness. Is there anyone that can help with this? From what I've read, it seems like the hinge needs to be screwed back down into the base, except that I'm assuming that particular piece has been broken off. Most people are saying that the hinges are plastic based, which is causing all these hinge issues.

Question: Y510 Hinge Problem

I adore my Y510. Since 4 n half years it has been my most humble servant. Butttt, as my warranty expired, the hinges problem rose. And I wanna meet that ASXXXLE who fitted those **bleep**ty hinges to this machine, so can kick his ass. Every single time I enquired about hinges either its all sold out or out of stock. The price varies every **bleep** time too.If IBM can't maintain the quality they shouldn't messed with it.

Question: Y550 hinge problem

A few days ago I discovered that my screen doesn't stay closed completely on the left side and, after some experimenting, I determined that it was the left hinge.  When I open the screen it is able to move around a little and I have to push it down to close the screen completely.  I was wondering how problematic this could be and if I should send it in.

Answer:Y550 hinge problem

I came across some others having an issue with the left hinge as well.  I ordered my Y550 just recently and it's expected to ship on 9/11.  I'll let you know what what happens with mine.  Yours is probably still under warranty, right?  I would call them and let them know, they should be able to fix it since it sounds like a defect. Check the thread here about that: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5256349

Hi I have a question about the hinges on my Lenovo Z51-70 I brought the product new from an online retailer end of Nov 2015 and had a problem with the hinges making a noise (creaking/cracking) noise from the start, As it was close to xmas and I thought it was just a teething issue.  IE they had been over tightened and would loosen up overtime I left it till end of December. I have since been told that hinges are not covered as they are cosmetic items and because they have damage the plastic casing internally I will have to pay for this. There was another issue with the lenovo (the harddrive failed), but have been told they will fix this free of charge. The problem I have is that I have legal rights as a consumer and the item was not fit for purpose on delivery. So how do I get to this fixed free of charge as this damagewasnt done by my mis-use and the item is under 6 months old and would be cover by the Sales of Goods Act. IE faulty when brought Please help as I need to know if the hinges were too tight at the manufacturing stage and when I recieved the laptop it would cause unnecessary wear and tear (durability) on the plastic casing causing it to become damaged.

Hey everyone, I have a Lenovo Edge 2 in 1 6500U 940M laptop for awhile now and my warranty has run out but just a couple days ago, the laptop hinge just broke off when I was working on my stuff resulting in my laptop having no backbone and I have to use duct tape to hold everything together. Occasionally, if I move the laptop screen too much, it also tends to shutdown. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I didn't quite find an answer, so I'm asking here. Has Dell compensated anyone for the design flaw with the Inspiron 15 5547 regarding the hinges? I opened my laptop this morning, and lo and behold, my palm rest is cracked. This will be the fourth one that has cracked. Three replaced by Dell under warranty, and the last by myself as my warranty expired.

At this point, I see no reason to replace the palm rest again, as it's just going to break again. At what point do you stop dumping money into this thing?

Answer:Inspiron 15 5547 Hinge problem

Unfortunately the palm rest is crack again as I know this is very frustrated for you. However, Dell list a laptop Hinge policy at the top of the forum. It should answer your question.

I have had my computer for almost 2 years and the left side hinge has become loose and broken, causing the screen to start to split where that hinge attaches. Fortunately I have an extended warranty from the retailer I bought it from for 1 more month to send it away to get fixed. However, I am trying to contact someone from acer in the technical support department (which has proven to be extremely difficult) to determine if this part can in fact be replaced before I send it away. I had the same problem with a previour Acer laptop and sent that computer away to get the hinge replaced, was called and told that they no longer were making that part and that I could not get my computer back and was offered a portion of what I paid for my computer back instead- obviously was not happy about this. SO, my question now is basically I want to know that the broken hinge can actually be replaced before I send my computer away because I can't afford for this same thing to happen again. I have called the Canadian customer support and have spoken to different people who did not work in this department and told me to try online, however I could not find a live chat or anything, and the retailer I bought it from and have the warranty with told me I must contact Acer directly to find this information out. Can someone help me or direct me where to go?

Answer:Acer E5 571 56WG Hinge Problem

In order to reach Acer Canada you need to call *** , Acer Provides only 1 year warranty and the extended warranty is from the store not with Acer , So you need to call the store from where you purchased

Recently I have noticed that the hinge of my Y50-70 is slowly opening. Pictures here.  It is a known issue of this model that the left hinge is plauged by a design flaw, which will sooner or later cause the screen to crack/whole hinge area to break/whole screen to dangle on its right hinge only. I seek advice on how to loosen the left hinge nut, as I have read that this would fix the problem I'm facing. Would this prevent any future damage to the laptop caused by the hinge? Could anyone post a step-by-step video detailing how I should loosen this hinge nut and also how to put the laptop back together after that? Please and thank you! PS: I have done a lot of research online but have come up inconclusive on whether loosening the left hinge nut is effective in preventing any future damage. I also failed to find a clear video detailing how to do this. I have never in my life taken apart a laptop.

My HP Envy 17 SE has shown the well-known left hinge error in its hinge area, something consistent with recent complaints in a design flaw. I purchased it in 2014 for my university usage and it's right at that critical point in my Senior year where I cannot go without this dependable laptop. Took it to get looked at and evaluated at a local shop and they said that the needed part to stop the splitting is no longer available. It looks like its an external thing and the left hinge pops. It is horrible to have such a bad issue when the brand is generally dependable but I am sad to say that this happened fairly recently after my warranty expiration. Left hinge pops and it seems like my laptop is now nothing but a glorified desktop. Are there any solutions to this? This brand has been dependable for my family and I happened to get the ENVY's "flawed" design as my university pick.

Hi, I have a lenvo g460 laptop and just resently i have had an isssue with my g460 laptop hinge. Last week I flipped my computer on and i noticed my hinge had broke off and was now bending and pushing my laptop case. I took a closer look and noticed that my screw that held the hinge had fallen off and disapeared. I then tried taking a screw out from another place in my laptop and putting it into the hinge hole. However, the screw did not hold. So then i tried again and this time with a peice of string attached to the screw and figured that the threadeding  of the hole that the screw went in had depresiated. So this time i tried to put the screw in the hole with crazy glue, however that did not work either and the hinge kept on bending the laptop case...... So.... I was wondering what else I could do to fix that issue, cause my 1 year warrenty has reasently experied, and due to some policy, I cant extend my laptop warrenty.... Thanks,            Rajat  Also for a temp fix i am now holding my hinge together with a paper clip which seems to be working

I have hinge problem with my laptop Envy M6 1205dx which has no warranty.  Then the screen cracked a month after that. This laptop is a gift so I plan to have it fixed or fix it myself. What should I do? Bring it to a HP authorized service center or buy parts and fix it myself? Is it hard to replace the hinges and LCD screen?

Hi all I found on my E130 that bezel near left hinge works a little bit when I open my laptop and it's a bit loose. I tried to tighten a screw that is in the bottom on the left hand side of laptop and I probably overtightened it. Does this screw that you can see on the bottom on E130 keeps hinge in place or only keeps upper bezel in place? If I overtightened it, will my hinge pop out some day form the casing, or it doesn't really matters for roughnes of construction?  Still I doesn't see any chandge in case's and hinge beahviour, despite the fact I have one loose screw that I'm not able to tighten up. I also cannot screw it out...

Answer:E130 Hinge/screw problem

Hi Pawelt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

It keeps only the hinge in place.
The case is really rough but it may support upto certain level. It will be really difficult to assist on that.
I suggest you to get it checked in our service center because the screw thread might be gone wrong and it is not getting tightened properly.

Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I've had a problem with one of the hinges on my laptop for aprox. two months, and I'm still waiting to hear back from Lenovo about it. The problem is that the plastic by one of the hinges has started coming up after it appears the hinge cracked. Now I've taken very good care of the laptop, having had it around 2 1/2 years.  I'm really unhappy about this because I don't want to have to fork out on repairs, and it feels like a waste of money to have bought a laptop which hasn't lasted me because of this simple problem. As a student I like being able to take my laptop around with me to complete work and at the moment I can't because of the possibility of making the issue worse. I was considering purchasing another laptop, but again, I don't want to get another Lenovo and have this issue, and this cost me around £500 when I first bought it and I don't want to have to buy another for that amount so soon, especially if it's not going to last.  Help please?

Answer:Lenovo Z580 Hinge Problem

Hi nyxx,  Do post if Lenovo gets back to you, I am having the same issue as you on my laptop. By the looks of it, it seems like the hinge has cracked and have had it for roughly the same time as you did.

Left hinge on laptop is broken.  Everything else works great.  I'm afraid the screen will fall and cause futher damage.  I have to prop it against a pillow or hold it with my left hand so it doesn't fall and completely ruin the laptop. Has anyone else had the same or similiar issues with the left hinge breaking out under normal use?  The right hinge is fine for now but with the left hinge broken, its only a matter of time before the right hinge breaks.  Again, the laptop works great but the left hinge is broken.  Any suggestions or known faulty issue with the left hinge? Thank you for you time.

Two months ago, I bought Lenovo G570. From the very first day, I noticed that the screen was very loose but I thought it was normal. I have read numerous complaints online about the Lenovo G570 laptop, apparently the hinges are prone to break a few months after use, and whatsmore the customer service teams are supposeduly refusing to acknowledge that the issue is covered under wear and tear.. I am wondering, has this problem been addressed with the release of the G580 laptop? I am no expert, but I assume that the model numbers represent incremental revisions. Does this typically mean component upgrades ie processor or also include fixes such as the hinges of the G570? Any response would be greatly appreciated as I am considering buying the G580 but need a strong quality laptop. I have heard that Lenovo are the best, my friend has one with a metal case and it seems strong, which models are known for their strength/durability? I also require a 15.6inch screen with i5, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd, preferably and usb 3.0.. Thanks,Richard.

I had bought ideapad z580 lenovo laptop nearly about 1.5 years ago with warranty of 3 years but alongwith some conditions applied. In 1st year, there was some problem with the laptop's right hinge. The lid couldn't close completely because of some internal design issues and caused damage with the lower case. I got it repaired without spending even a penny. But after 1.5 years, again the same problem has arised. I called the customer care but they told to get help from the nearby lenovo authorised centers. I tried to get help from there but they are trying to charge me (about Rs. 3000 to 5000)saying that it is covered under damage and cannot be repaired free of cost. Its true. But as the damage is not caused by my side, its the fault of the design. So, lenovo should fix my issues free of cost as my 3 years warranty is still valid. Could anyone please help me with this?

One of the parts that hold up my monitor has snapped so I've only got one supporting my monitor, is their anywhere Where i can find a replacement for this?

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 hinge problem

Hi buddy,

check this site for some spare parts:

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite-Pro,6100,Laptop,Parts.aspx

Just choose your model type (which is written on the bottom of your machine on the silver sticker) and then the part you need.
But I suggest you to let a technician repair the machine since it?s not SO easy to repair a notebook.
Don?t do it if you are not familiar with notebooks/mobile systems and if you aren?t really sure that you might repair your machine. :)
