F-Secure 2017

Question: F-Secure 2017

When will the new version of the F-Secure 2017?
Competition already has new versions.
What new can we expect from the new version of F-Secure in 2017 in addition to the improved engine?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: F-Secure 2017

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hopefully good zero-day behavioural protection features, such as virtualisation utilisation (via usage of hardware technology like VT-x/AMD-V SVM).

Good evening everyone. Thanks for your access to this thread. I hope you to read and answer for this question.

I want to ask everyone that which software should I use for keeping security of my PC.

Now I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as main anti-malware soft on my main desktop PC.
And also I was using F-secure SAFE as anti-malware soft on my PC until last week.

Yesterday, I heard that new Avast Antivirus 2017 was released, and new Avast Free is including behaviour scanning system.

I am having trouble deciding which software should I use as anti-malware soft.
Please tell me about your recommend.

I think that...

?Protection features
Better : Bitdefender 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017

?Performance and speed
Lighter : Avast Free 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Bitdefender 2017

?the risk of false positive trouble
Bigger risk : F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017 > Bitdefender 2017

?SSL (HTTPS) Scanning is enable without fake SSL certificate to browser
Unnecessary fake certificate : Avast Free, F-secure
Need fake certificate : Bitdefender Total

F-secure SAFE is the very nice solution as protection from malwares and keeping speedy PC. But it is having big risk of false positive ratings; especially the website blocking is not good with many many false positive ratings. And, sometimes slow down my PC.

Bitdefender Total Security 2017 is the best solution as protection from malwares. This software is providing users very nice anti-malware solu... Read more

Answer:Avast Free 2017 vs F-secure SAFE vs Bitdefender Total Security 2017

Quick question, why Bitdefender Total Protection? Do you need ALL those additional features, or looking for an Antivirus only, because there are Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Free versions.

What about other protection software like Emsisoft Anti-Malware/Internet Security or ESET Nod32 Antivirus/Internet Security?

Good evening everyone! Thank you for your access to here and reading my post.
Tonight, I want to ask you that how much the Avast Free Antivirus reaches some solid anti-malware software, which are the paid version.

Now I am using F-secure SAFE as Trial license on desktop PC, which is one of the mine.
It seems to nice for protect PC and F-secure SAFE is light despite it is one of the very strong scanning system as consumers.

But now, I am worrying about false blocking by browsing protection of F-secure SAFE.
In usually, f-secure is not making something to bad situation for me, I am feeling it.
But the Browsing protection feature of F-secure SAFE blocks websites too many times.
The most of sites, which were blocked by F-secure are obviously safe. Of cause, they are judged safe sites by other major antimalware soft (e.g. Avast, Bitdefender Total Security).

So I want to compare them; Avast Free Antivirus 2017 and F-secure SAFE 2017(or Internet Security 2017).
I want to ask you that which is the more strong software under the below situation...

1.
OS is Windows10 Home and updated with latest security patch.
2.
Main browser is the latest of Mozilla Firefox with ublock origin.
3.
If I use Avast Free 2017, I will configure some setting (e.g. File Shield, Mail Shield, Web Shield, and Behavior Shield) to aggressive security level. For example, I will configure by referring to this page avast! Optimal Protection settings by RejZoR

F-Secure Internet Security 2017 Review by PCMag 3,5/5 stars
Pros
Excellent scores in our hands-on malware and malicious URL blocking tests. Firewall-assist component blocked many exploits. Banking protection prevents man-in-the-middle attacks.

Cons
Core functionality vulnerable to malicious attack. Child with administrator privileges can disable minimal parental control. Mediocre score in our antiphishing test. Good, not great, scores from independent testing labs.

Bottom Line
The antivirus components of F-Secure Internet Security scored high in our testing, aided by the suite-specific Browsing Protection features. However, the rest of its components don't make up a top-notch suite.

F-Secure is definitely not the best Internet Security Suite available for the price. It does ok but not the best in terms of detection rates & has very little extra features. I am not a big fan of the GUI or settings either but that's just me.

Hi everyone, i have quite a few questions so i'll post separate threads rather than pollute one thread. I'm wanting to get something a lot better than windows defender. Comcast is my ISP so i can get NIS for free. As most of you are aware of Norton hasn't been doing a great job these days. There has been multiple vulnerabilities in its products that actually decreases the security of windows. Still NIS still does a pretty good job of scoring pretty well in the various test in terms of protection. I was thinking on going with either bitdefender or KIS but of course i would have to pay for those. If you were me would opt for NIS because its still pretty dang good and worlds better than bit defender or would you opt for one of the better products like KIS or bitdefender?

So I had Emsisoft for couple of months now

But now I'm without any AV As I do not know what to Install Avast or Emsisoft!
I have licences for both So thats not the problem
Thanks In Advance And btw This forum really nice.

Both have excellent protection functions, but certainly they are two different security solutions.
I think the choice of one or the other one is really subjective, I've used Emsisoft for many years and it is my first choice

A couple of years ago I moved myself and some of the fam from Apple Everything to Windows 10. Yesterday however, I bought an new 2017 iPad. I really love the Surface devices, so why?
LEAVING THE PLATFORM BECAUSE OF WINDOWS MOBILE
First, because Microsoft are no longer supporting the phones that are in our house, we are being forced from that platform. So rather than living and breathing completely and happily inside the Microsoft ecosystem, I am now forced to diversify and go elsewhere. This really is a big deal, and changes my thinking from the unthinkable (leaving the MS ecosystem) to the possible (shifting back towards Apple). That being the case, why should I then buy a Microsoft Surface tablet (I was planning to buying a new Surface Pro M3) when I an now FORCED to be open to Apple and Android?
EASE OF MOVING PLATFORMS
Second, Microsoft have made my leap back to Apple so easy, because they have done what Apple and Google have refused to do, which is to make their software available on the others' platforms. Thus the transition to iPad is easy. For example, Word and PowerPoint are effectively free (via my 365 account that I will not be renewing at full cost next time; I will use the academic version which costs me almost nothing). Outlook on iPad is a great app (better than on PC platform). Lots of other apps that Microsoft that I use are also really nice on iPad (e.g. Wunderlist) and made the transition really simple and clean.

Third, the Facebook app on iPad is ... Read more

Answer:I did the unthinkable and chose a 2017 iPad over a 2017 Surface Pro M3

Can't make sense of that. Presumably you have really old windows phones that no longer get updates?
And what does that have to do with what tablet you use? Windows has timeline, cloud clipboard and a whole host of platform agnostic features coming this fall, so Windows will play nice with android or ios (better than those OSes play with any other).
You don't even need your tablet, desktop and phone to be the same platform. You just need the same services, which for MSFT, exist on every platform.

Hello,
On my Windows 10 pro PC, I'm running (BDTS 2017 + Voodoo Shield Pro + Malwarebytes 3), and this combo is very smooth for me, but when I saw the results of MT tests here : AV Test - MalwareTips - Bitdefender Report - March 2017 and here : AV Test - MalwareTips - Kaspersky Report - March 2017, I think that these tests demonstrated that Kaspersky did a better job then Bitdefender
So my question is to know if it is a good idea to replace BD by KIS on my config ?
Thanks
NB: I have paid keys for both

I am trying to make an secure POP3 (port 995) and secure IMAP (port 993) connection thru Verizon FIOS via the ActionTec MI424WR modem/router/802.11G box that Verizon supplied. I am running Vista, and I am using Outlook 2007, which is set to these ports.

I wanted to do this with the firewall set to the "Maximum Security (High)" setting.

These ports were not available in the ActionTec's pick list so I added these ports (using the "Advanced" tab and then under "Protocols") so they read "TCP any -> 993" and "TCP any -> 995"

I tried adding these ports to the "Access Control" table, and the "Port Forwarding" table and the "Advanced Filtering" table but none worked.

The Verizon Tech Support line worker told me the only solution was to enable the DMZ host and set it to be the IP address of the computer I happened to be on.

To my astonisment, with DMZ enabled, the "Access Control" rules seemed to kick in for the DMZ host and my secure POP3 would only work if I had this port allowed in the "Access Control" table.

Questions:
1. Is it safe to run with DMZ pointing to my computer.

I thought this effectively brought the "DMZ host" (i.e. my computer) outsied the firewall and exposed all the ports on my computer directly to the internet. (But if that were the case, then

2. why does the Access Control table work only to the DMZ host???

3. How do I make the "Ac... Read more

DMZ does indeed expose the computer directly to the outside world, that's why it's called the DMZ!

I also run Protowall in the background on my PC.

Whenever Protowall is on these lines always pop up constantly..

Packet to "Media Force, MCI Communications Services, Inc. d..." (
65.200.212.211 ) blocked. [protocol: TCP - src: 1205 / dst: 80]

Packet from "Media Force, MCI Communications Services, Inc. d..." (
65.200.212.213 ) rejected. [protocol: TCP - src: 80 / dst: 1224]

These packets will be blocked or rejected sometimes up to 100 times an hour 24/7. A heck of a lot anyway. Even if I let the program connect it will call out or call in again soon. It's constant.

I looked it up and I think its F-secure's servers asking for something. Automatic updates are OFF. So why does it keep calling out and what is it sending/receiving?

Answer:Shaw Secure, F-Secure calling home. Suspisious Behaviour

maybe for the ads?

Kim Dotcom & downfall of Megaupload, Edward Snowden & NSA leaks and many other recent news have accelerated the discussion about privacy concerns regarding online communications and services. Giant US companies like Microsoft and Google are constantly criticized by both users and authorities, the former concerned about their privacy, the latter willing to have wider access to user data and files.

This in background F-Secure, one of the leading computer security companies in the world created a secure cloud storage service Younited. As the company and its servers are located in Finland and outside the US jurisdiction, F-Secure boldly promises a somewhat different service:

Let me start by saying that lately my bank website, Norton Safesearch and even your website appear to have replaced their secure certificates with outdated or insufficient security. Usually in these cases the https in the address bar is crossed out or has a yellow          ! triangle. If you click on that triangle or crossed out space you will see a grey box that says "your connection to this site is not private". My connection is a private home network as opposed to public. It used to say "you have not visited this site before today" but that phrase is no longer there. Of course I've gone to these sites before. In the grey box there is a tab titled 'connections'. Click on that and it says '! The identity of this website has not been verified' and '! Your connection to www.xxxxxxx.com is not encrypted'. These sites normally have the green bar in the address bar indicating a secure connection. Clicking on the green bar will give you the same grey box, only this time it says "Your connection to this site is private" and it will tell you 'the identity of this site has been verified by [name of certificate]. Valid Certificate Transparency supplied by the server'. It will say 'your connection is encrypted using an obsolete cipher suite, or [...encrypted using a modern cipher suite]. Both are followed by specific connection and encryption information, i.e. TLS 1.2.

I would like to start focusing my work at the coffee shop now since I can't focus much at home anymore. I don't know much about security and have never used a public wifi before after hearing many stories about it being completely insecure. The work I'm doing is very important and I cannot have any problems with weak security. Is VPN as secure as a home network?

After digging from google, all I have to do is subscribe to a VPN provider, connect to the public wifi, then connect to the VPN server? Is that it?

I also found out that 4G mobile connection isn't too secure as well so I'm unsure what approach I should go.

Which would be more secure?

1. Connect to VPN through public free wifi
or
2. Connect to VPN through 4G mobile internet usb stick
or
3. Or use no internet at all? My work does not require much internet connection, however it would help a lot if i did have the connection.

However, I do have a really dumb question. If I don't connect to any networks on my laptop at a free public wifi there is no way someone can hack into my laptop right? Nobody can somehow hijack and go into my laptop if i'm within the free wifi radius?

Also what are all the security softwares I need? I have malwarebytes premium active shield and avast free but thinking of upgrading to the premium

Answer:Is VPN really secure for public wifi coffee shops? What is the most secure way?

Only if the VPN also encrypts your traffic.

As for which would be more secure..obviously 3 would be the most secure. Don't connect to the internet and disable your wifi adapter and bluetooth adapter (if you have one).

IMO 2 would be the next best option since it's still your own hotspot; but they could still try and sift through traffic through 4G network (if it's possible for them to do). Most likely would be very difficult however, since the network is transmitting data to/from the cell tower(s) via a wide spectrum - I haven't really looked into traffic monitoring over cell networks though, so I'm just guessing on that.

Obviously the public wifi would be the least secure, especially if you use a VPN that doesn't encrypt your traffic.

As for security software... using your own common sense is going to be the best thing. You could look into a software firewall such as Comodo or ZoneAlarm (but IMO they can be annoying and intrusive). Built-in Windows firewall is decent enough.

In my Home Office using my Notebook and wireless router I have WEP encryption with a Network security key. But I am often away on the road in Asia and I connect to both unsecured and WEP secured wireless networks in restaurants, hotels and internet cafes.

When I need to log in to certain web sites to attend to important personal info like bank accounts and credit cards and make payments etc I often avoid it for fear of this information being visible or accessible to others, even on the WEP secured ones.

I 'm wondering though, if it shows the connection as WEP secured in Manage Wireless Connections, does that mean things are secure or can other people using the same wireless pick up on what others around them are sending and receiving?

I guess what I am asking is, how can I know if a wireless connection is safe on the road and is there anything I can do to make it safe or safer? I suspect many others encounter this same issue.

Thanks,

hello, i used acronis true image and disk director suite and successfully cloned and backup disks many times. recently i installed pgp enterprise to secure the disk. as fate would have it i decided to increase the secure zone partition. the operating system on boot prompted for pgp password to decrypt the drive and then acronis loaded and i used the partition management option. the partition limit of secure zone was enhanced from 55 gb to 61 gb (limit being shown as 69gb). the three steps that appeared were C drive size being fixed from 55 gb to 45 gb, D drive (which was pgp secured) was shown to be going NO change and the third step was the Secure Zone expanding from 45 GB to 51 gb or so. when all the steps were done, the system booted. as always the first prompt was PGP secure disk, i entered the password but the second prompt for Acronis halted and Displayed a fatal error and asked to press enter to attempt to boot the OS. On pressing Enter the system booted and the OS was normal EXCEPT that the D drive was being shown as Raw (i.e. needed to formatted). On inspecting the D drive with Acronis disk manager the three partitions were visible the C and Secure zone with the newly allocated disk space but the D was being shown as RAW Although the D disk size was being shown as before, i.e. 45 GB. All assets are resided in the D drive. Please advise how to recover or restore the partitions.

Just threw this article together, I want all the brain's in this forum to chip in and if there is anything missing from this article (at all!) let me know ASAP, in this thread.

Previously we wrote a long post about Best Laptops for Hackers, which included a run-down on the best laptops for programming and penetration testing (pen-testing). This article turned out to be very popular even though it wasn't exactly intended to be that, now we are proud to finally publish the long-requested article of 'Best Laptops for Video Game System Emulation'.

The idea of this post is to give an accurate summary of which laptops are suited for, or adept at emulating various consoles and their games, and which ones also can easily perform these duties, at the lowest possible cost.

Now obviously, the better hardware you have the better your system will be at emulating other hardware/software. That doesn't necessarily mean a more expensive laptop. Where the demands of hacking and pen-testing demand vital and significant internal storage, the prerequisites for game emulation are generally just a good graphics processor, and good RAM/CPU.

Your laptop should also be in good working order and not muddled with high-risk pirated downloads and large bits of video. To emulate efficiently, you should also have as little processes and programs running in order for the emulator to run smoothly.

These are all common sense tips but...

Secure computers aren't so secure.

Even well-defended computers can leak shocking amounts of private data. MIT researchers seek out exotic attacks in order to shut them down.

The encryption system that Tromer was attacking, called AES, was particularly vulnerable because it used tables of precalculated values as a computational short cut, so that encoding and decoding messages wouldnt be prohibitively time consuming. Since Tromer and his colleagues published their results, Intel has added hardware support for AES to its chips, so that Internet encryption software wont have to rely on such lookup tables.

In a statement, Intel told the MIT News Office that its decision was mainly motivated by the performance/efficiency benefits achieved, but that in addition, there is a potential security benefit since these new instructions can mitigate the possibility of software side channel attacks on AES that have been described in research papers, including those discovered by Tromer, Percival, and Bernstein.Click to expand...

Ok, now how old is my chip and does it have the Intel hardware support for AES? Gulp!

-- Tom

P.S. I will try to find out which chip series have the hardware support for AES and post it here - but, if you find out before I do, please do not hesitate to post the information yourself. Is it time to get a new motherboard already, or will my current motherboard be able to accept the chips with AES hardware support?

Getting crossed out red x in https . states site may be using outdated encryption. am I being hacked or do the sites need to update thier security. I know it posses a threat or not secure but it is happening on real well known sites. it also happens on all computers in the house but I'm pretty sure only with google chrome.

Answer:secure sites not secure in chrome.

Hi Adams369 If you are using Google Chrome 42, this is normal. Starting in version 42, Google Chrome starts tagging as "insecure" websites that uses SHA-1 algorithm encryption for their certificates, in order to move them to a more secure one since SHA-1 is old and deprecated (less secure). If you want, I created a thread on that yesterday where I show how to get these certificates information on a website, so you can verify yourself. Also, would you mind posting which websites are having this insecure connection so I can test them for my troubleshooting?Google Chrome 42 vs SSL CertificatesThank you

Answer:XPS 8700 needed UEFI secure boot disabled to complete Windows 10 anniversary update can't enable UEFI secure boot now

rdubayah,
If your computer was running WIndows 10 without any issues prior to downloading the Anniversary update, then you would not have had to change any settings in the bios to install the update. The UEFI and Secure Boot settings are to enable booting with a USB or DVD to install Windows.
Disable Legacy Boot Mode and Enable UEFI
Start the computer and TAP the F2 key to enter the bios. Once in the bios Press F9 to Restore the bios to the Default Settings. F10 to save changes and exit. You could have a hardware problem. To run a hardare diagnostics on the computer you would start the computer and TAP the F5 key. Insert a cd/dvd in the optical drive for running the diags.

Okay,

A buddy of mine was using my computer to check on some of her credit card information and I'm not totally certain that the site is secure.

The main address is: http://www.capitalonepointsrewards.com/Login.aspx

and when you click the yellow "Register Now" button it takes you to this address: http://www.capitalonepointsrewards.com/Register.aspx

This doesn't look very secure so I thought "Hey, lets put an "s" behind the http and see what happens...sure enough it took us here:
https://www.capitalonepointsrewards.com/Register.aspx

Using IE if you check these URLs out you will notice that one site shows as secure and the other does not of course, but are either of these really secure or not? Any thoughts, suggestions, opinions would be appreciated before she registers.

Thanks

Answer:Secure or not secure? That is the question...

quick note- people are fuggin idiots. i have seen a lot of sites that use DNS names that are different than the name they have their SSL cert registered to. the whole goddamn idea behind SSL is that you are certifying that you are who you say you are. then people go and break that by registering a cert for www.cause.org and when you go to donate it takes you to www.kintera.com and your browser starts saying "DANGER WILL ROBINSON! the site name does not match the name on the SSL cert!" the system is actually legit- the .org outsourced their donation collections to another company and tried to make it seem like you were still on their site. but in the process they totally crapped up what SSL is all about.

it's just so stupid.

Ok, my boss wants to use his wireless laptop freely within and outside of our network. Our network is of course very secure with multiple redundant firewalls, virus protection, web/email filters, etc etc, and user machines inside kept within strict guidelines for usage. This has resulted in a perfectly clean network. However now a system needs to join the network from the outside, as if a user were to bring in their home pc and just jump online. I have cleaned this persons personal machine several times to find it overwhelmed with viruses and spyware every single time.

So, can anyone think of a way to safely allow an infected system from the outside, to join a secure clean system on the inside, and everything have a happy ending? They need to be able to access network resources, our outbound internet connection, the works.

Answer:From secure to insecure to secure again

any unsecure machine that is on a secure network, by definition, makes that network unsecure

assuming the boss insists that this is ok, the only thing i can think of is to keep a seperate network segment, away from everything else, with VERY strict firewall/routing tables

have a client that brought a dell inspiron from me and was using the wireless when out of town. she stated that one connection she got was secure and another one wasnt. she wants her connections to be secure. is this something that i can configure for her or is this part of the network she is latching onto ???

i dont know much about the wireless networking other than setting them up and making sure they function. when i test the wireless i just attached to my wireless router and make sure that function works. so anymore knowledge would be appreciated.

also she was stating that she was getting a weak signal now i believe that is more than likely because she was either close to the 300 feet or beyond it. true not true ???

Answer:wireless secure not secure

I assume you are referring to Wireless encryption. That would be dependent on who is providing the Wireless access. If they are using WEP or WPA, they would have to tell her what the Wireless key is to access their wireless network.

Please help!!

I joined a forum for a direct sell company that I just started with, and the forum is a secure site, but loads pictures from a non-secure area on the server. So EVERY friggen page, I get the pop up about

Downloading non-secure content from a secure Web site

The Web site you are viewing is a secure site. It uses a security protocol such as SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or PCT (Private Communications Technology) to secure the information you send and receive.
When sites use a security protocol, information that you provide, such as your name or credit-card number, is encrypted so that other people cant read it. However, this Web page also contains items that do not use this secure protocol.
Given what you know about this Web site and your computer, you must decide whether to continue working with this site.

If you do not feel confident about working with this site, click No.
How do I by-pass this?? It seems to be slowing everything down as well. Like I couldn't open this site until I closed that page.

About a month ago we got a new toshiba laptop with norton already preinstalled on it. One month free trial. Well, the month is up, and I would like to put something on there. Our ISP is shaw, and they are providing their shawsecure AV program free. Just wondering if that would be a good idea, or would some other program be better. I used to have Avira on my desktop, and that thing was continually asking me questions about what I wanted to do with this that and the other. Sandbox this, sandbox that..aaaahhhh I DON'T KNOW.

I so totally don't know about these things. I just know that It's supposed to keep threats away...and that's about it. If an AV is going to keep asking me all kinds of questions, I could be on here for hours, just checking out on google every single blasted question. I basically want my protection to do its job and leave me the heck alone. One friend says put the shaw on, they have it, its great, another one says use MS essentials, its great, another says MS defender..you got it...it's great.

I had AVG on my computer a few years ago, and for us, it sucked. Viruses galore.

I want something small and easy. The website for the shaw one is...shawsecure.ca so you can see what it says. If I'm not mistaken today is my last day for the Norton AV. The kids use the laptop for music, videos, youtube, facebook, game sites..if that's any help in the final decision. If the shaw seems ok, great.

Thanx for your help

Microsoft has been attempting to patch a serious Secure Boot vulnerability that can be exploited to bypass the security feature and install rootkits and bootkits on Windows devices. Researchers believe the security flaw cannot be fully patched.

-

On systems where Secure Boot is locked down and cannot be disabled (e.g. Windows RT, HoloLens, Windows Phone), configuration changes can be made using policies, signed files loaded by the boot manager (bootmgr) from a UEFI variable. There are some boot loader executables (EFI files) signed by Microsoft that can be used to provision such policies.

Before loading a policy, bootmgr checks it to make sure it?s valid. However, researchers discovered that Microsoft introduced a new type of Secure Boot policy during the development of Windows 10 Anniversary Update (v1607) that can be abused to bypass the security feature.

Question: 2017 X1 Update?

I was waiting for Apple to update the macbook pro line to replace my older x1, since I can't stand the touch row function buttons.  Of course Apple goes and releases their own version of the touch function buttons, which is the biggest reason I want to get rid of my machine.  So back to square one, I will probably just get another X1.  Are there any big updates due for 2017?  I know updated machines usually get released around late January / early February and was curious what is expected for next year. Thank you.

Hi all,

About a week after my last visit I noticed a browser hijack. I opened a page and in just under a second the browser loaded a page claiming to be a Firefox update page, and it popped up a download window asking me to download a javascript file. It's been busy at work so I haven't had time to deal with this, but today it happened again and I was in the middle of typing in another application when this download popup took over and I'd hit the spacebar before I knew what was going on. So now I probably have something malicious and definitely need to make time to deal with this crap again.

Here is a Best Answer from a google product forum:

"When a Chrome extension is removed from the store, the developer of that extension can then submit a new version that doesn't violate the Chrome web store terms. If that new version is ready, they can submit it on his store dashboard page. However, because they violate the Chrome web store program. This extension will also get a manual review by a Google employee, to check if they meet Chrome web store guideline (that takes 48 hours). If OK, then you see the Chrome extension back in the store.

So the Wot Chrome extension is now safe."

Hi, I just bought an XPS 8910 with 256 GB M2.SSD + 2GB HDD with 16GB DDR4 RAM.(Win10Pro) I installed whole necessary Sotwares, updates, etc. When I finish, I pluged in USB 3.0 Extern HDD (1TB)Then rebooted and started with Acronis TI 2017 CD.Till here everything works fine.TI does not recognised C:\ [M2.SSD] as normal but Extern HDD C:\ itself. So, I cant make any image copy with Acronis Live CDANY IDEA

Answer:M2.SSD Does not appear on Acronis TI 2017

The Chipset 8910 M2 drivers are not native to windows. You need to talk with Acronis about mass storage drivers.  There is support from Dell for Windows PE and DISM but it is not free.
Imaging using anything other than windows PE 10 and Microsoft Tools
is not supported by Dell or Microsoft. When you deploy a duplicated or imaged Windows installation, it is required that the System Preparation (Sysprep) tool is used before the capture of the image.
Dependencies
You must run Windows Setup before you use Sysprep.
You need a tool to capture an image of the installation, such as Microsoft DISM

Not sure if this is the result of the ?Creator Update or coincidental hardware fail.
Yesterday my HP6735S laptop running W10 Home since last year was offered an update from v1607 (I think) to the latest. I allowed this to go ahead and waited .. and waited for about 4.5 hours all told.
Eventually it finished and after logging in again it appeared to be working.
After being left for a while it turned itself off - as normal.
I then tried to turn it on with the following result:-
Blue power light ON
WiFi LED Orange (Off)
HDD activity LED flashing Orange (Normally Blue)
DVD drive seeming to try accessing (Empty at the time)
Display Blank
Caps Lock LED flashing occasionally
Pressing and holding the power button turns Off as normal.
Tried removing battery and starting with adapter - same.
Tried putting in W10 *.iso DVD - same.
I can read the HDD in a caddy on another PC and it seems to be OK
(Except the small (100M) system partition reports empty)
I have 3 normal partitions:
Windows 7 (~100G)
Windows 10 (~100G)
Data (~500G)
I usually had to select W7 or W10 at start up.
Unfortunately I cannot run your SysInfo utility for obvious reasons.
Procesor is dual core AMD Turion X2 64bit with 4G RAM (2 x 2G)
Laptop came with (250G HDD)/Vista originally which I replaced with XP.
The HDD was later replaced with 1T HGST and installed W7.
W10 was installed using the code from W8 (bought) as a dual boot.
Any ideas?

I'm sure there are similar older threads, but things change quickly for VPN services and extensions.

I have used ZenMate, DotVPN and GOM VPN extensions in the past. But it's been over a year, and they seem to have changed. DotVPN didn't require sign-up when I used it for example, now it does.

Which VPN extension (for Chrome) do you use/recommend in 2017

Answer:Which VPN extension do you use in 2017?

None of those, I use Private Internet Access. However, it is paid
It has an extension for chrome but I mostly use the windows app.

My favourite free alternative in Chrome used to be ZenMate. I have some friends who use Hola free vpn but I've never tried it so I'm not sure it's any good. Well, it depends on what you want it for.

Question: 2017 4K V nitro?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, couldnt find anything in regards to the v nitro series.  Ive been looking at a new laptop to replace my V3-771g from 5 years ago and im looking at the V nitro series. The 2017 models are finally for sale but none have a 4K screen. I was wondering if this feature will be released on later models or not at all. Thanks

Answer:2017 4K V nitro?

Hi,  It is likely that 4K models will be released, however, acer hasn't confirmed this and it is only public speculation. The top tier models seem to have a GTX 1060, which isn't good enough for 4k gaming. I'd still recommend the 1080p version

Question: End of Vista 2017

I understand that Vista finishes in 2017. Can you expand on this for me?

I have Home Premium 32 bit at present and Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor seems to recognise only minor adjustments to be made. Would you suggest I upgrade now or wait until Vista ends?

Answer:End of Vista 2017

It will be just like XP. What it basically means is that there will be no updates from Microsoft for it. Vista will still work just like xp does still work.

If your happy with Vista then you can continue to use it for the rest of your life if you want.

What I recommend though is that do not use internet explorer use another browser. if you use it after the finish date as it will be vunerable and make sure you have a firewall and AV software protecting your system, but you should have that now anyway.

I Just bought a 2017 XPS 13 ; Touchscreen Model ; i7 Processor with 16 GB of RAM
and this *** machine is a toaster!
Its just out of the box with windows 10 Pre Installed and its heating with or without the power plugged in.
It  is getting hot to the point where I cannot use it anymore ( At the Table or in my lap )
Also on a full charge the battery capacity is reflecting as 3 hours and 30 minutes only.
Is it normal? How do I fix this? I have done the BIOS update , System Firmware Upgrade etc. and everything is up to date. Tried reinstalling windows and also tried with the power saver mode but issue still persists.
What to do?

Answer:XPS 13 , 2017 OVERHEATING!

You don't mention which XPS 13 you have but my 9365 gets warm when something is working.  Anti-virus scans, system maintenance and others will heat the system even when you are not using it.
My system will get to 112 F near the back and mostly on the left side.

Hi all,

When KIS 2017 is running Uplay starts to update/download a game & then after about 50 Mb downloaded it stops & Uplay has a connection of 0 Mbs. I believe that KIS 2017 is blocking Uplay access to the internet.

Is there a way of fixing this? Every time I open Uplay I have to Exit KIS 2017 to get games to update!!!

Thanks,

Hey guy's this post is to get information and thoughts about the current GPU market

#1 I find it highly ridiculous the new GPU's released are so hard to get in retail it's making me wonder why it's so hard ?
A: Are Vendors purposely messing with stock ?
B: Is this newer GPU that worth it to get or is next Generation a better choice TI on up
C: Does anyone with a G-sync monitor feels there wouldn't be any difference from your last years flavor 970,980 980ti

#2 How much are you willing to pay and what brand you prefer ?

#3 Last question do you feel Nvidia will stop improving Maxwell based on Pascal being a main focus ?

Thoughts and sorry for the massive Novel

Answer:The Demand for GPU's 2016-2017

A:I dont think so demand for aftermarket stuff is massive founders edition cards are pretty easy to get though , and apart from poor cooling are actually tending to clock higher (NVidia cherry picked for founders)??
B:For me with a 980TI no , im not pay700 quid for 25% increase in fps when its mostly over 100 already waiting for TI
C:I have the same monitor as you , but i dont understand what your asking?

EVGA and ill see how the aftermarket ti's price after launch

yes i beleive maxwell has hit its limit as far as driver improvements go and DX12 is a massive let down so far

Much has been made of the demise of WP/W10M. I myself have owned almost every WP flagship, but sadly have moved on (though I might by one as a secondary device).
But I'm curious what everyone thinks about the state of W10 as a whole in 2017 (especially compared to Mac OS and Android's Desktop like experience)?
Also, how do you think the MS ecosystem is doing? We may have lost ground in mobile but I'm curious to get your thoughts about the rest of the W10 world.

MS is clearly ahead in its OS intergration of mixed reality.
Cortana skills offered contextually, will likely put MS ahead of the curve on voice, given a) its offered proactively not merely triggered b) it's a platform 100's of millions of people have access to already (unlike speakers).
There are also definite gains in terms of AI in general, and all those are available to use by developers.
Across device intergration makes windows open arms policy towards other platforms very attractive. Whether you are an android user, or a ios, your devices will work better together with windows and MS services than the other way around.
The incoming UI changes, make windows more attractive visually than other OSes. And they better suit mixed reality.
With system wide pen intergration, windows will be WELL ahead of other OSes in terms of the stylus.
UWP is picking up some steam with windows s (before release ... Read more

My plan is to replace my old samsung phone with a new phone.I like the windows phone platform and it satisfies all my basic needs(mail checking, using skype and whatsapp, managing office files)if i bought it. My question is can i buy a lumia phone (lumia 640 xl) now and i cant afford a surface phone as it costs higher to my budget. How long microsoft wiil support windows 8.1 and windows 10.Can it provide support minimum for five years. how long will whatsapp support in lumia phones?

Answer:Can i buy a Lumia phone in 2017?

I just bought a Lumia 640XL a few days ago.
8.1 is very long in the tooth these days and has for the most part become unsupported as far as apps.
Windows 10 mobile is still supported and growing for now.
I can't say for sure if support for 5 years is going to happen.
All we can do is go with the flow for now.

This advisory says, concerning an Outlook vulnerability:
Exploitation of this vulnerability requires that a user open a specially crafted
file with an affected version of Microsoft Outlook. In an email attack
scenario, an attacker could exploit the vulnerability by sending a specially crafted file to the user and then convincing the user to open the file.
The wording is a bit confusing ? by ?file? do they mean the email message itself or an attached file that you?d have to open? If just clicking on the email to preview or open it can trigger the code, I find that more worrisome than if the user must open
an attachment.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi, my office upgraded our one computer to Windows 10, now we are unable to login using our regular password. This is a local account- no Microsoft Account has ever been on there. I've tried three reps from ms and after a half hour all have told me the only option is to reset windows and lose all the files. I read online that this problem happen two years ago, and that Microsoft would make a fix for this problem. However it's 2017 and this is still an issue. I had an IT guy try to hack into the admin account and he was unable to do so after several attempts. What else can we do?

Well, it finally happened. Got fed up with M$/Windows policy.. no, upda... no, sys... no, everything and went Linux as my main system, with existing Windows 10 in dual boot. Not wanting to type again here, I'll just paste a part of my post form Level1techs (Also a great community, btw):

Well, I finally stopped reading about this or that distro, and jumped into it by installing OpenSUSE Leap 42.2. I actually know nothing about Linux except what I read on different distros' websites, DE's, etc. I know I will still need my Windows system for the time being, but I want to see how much of it will remain in Windows. If I manage to get 90% of things working in Linux, I'll dump Windows for good. Why OpenSUSE?
Main reasons: It's an rpm distro. I work a lot with 3D & vfx - Maya, Houdini, Foundry (Modo, Nuke) which all work on Linux. Maya's and Foundry's official supported distros are CentOS/RHEL, but I've read that it can be a pain to utilize properly (nvidia drivers etc.), and it uses way too old kernel, but, people say it's rock solid. Anyway, I thought OpenSUSE is as close to it as possible.
It's one of the major distributions, stable (well, that's what people say, I actually have no idea, but being used as a server OS also, I tend to believe that) and well documented. It's unlikely to disappear any time soon.
Versatile. OK, again, being a noob at Linux, I have no idea in what way it is versatile, but I'll go wi... Read more
