Suddenly Lots of Unwanted Email, Firefox Slow to Load Links

Question: Suddenly Lots of Unwanted Email, Firefox Slow to Load Links

I think this started when I went to a bank website and received a popup asking for an updated email address. I received notification of a new email right after, stating something like thanks for signing up for Scorecard. I tried contacting the company by phone, and they asked for my bank account number. I asked what bank and they couldn't tell me. Nada, you're not getting my bank or bank account number. I contacted my bank and they know nothing about this company and are investigating.

Since then, I've been getting lots of unwanted email from a variety of companies all over the world. Firefox is also slow to load links many times.

I'm using 64-bit version of Windows 10, have 8GB RAM, FF 49.0.2, use gmail.

I tried Adwcleaner and Malwarebytes anti-malware (I have the paid version, that runs all the time in the tray). Didn't find anything wrong, but problem persists.

Can someone help?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Suddenly Lots of Unwanted Email, Firefox Slow to Load Links

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My name is Carlos and last week I got the Antispyware Soft Rogue. After encountering this program I managed to scan my PC with Malwarebytes twice. First I scanned right after getting this Rogue for the first time, then I restarted looked through my processes for an unusual process and I found something with a very weird name that I don't recall now. I scanned again with Malwarebytes and found some files related to this and fixed them then restarted again. After this the Rogue didn't start up automatically so I was able to open firefox and search around for a fix and found that a system restore was able to fix it so I did. The Rogue doesn't show up again and the process is gone. Also I tried scanning for this using the guide to remove it in this site and found nothing. After all that I noticed that I could not use Google Chrome at all, every time I started it I would get an error related to the tab opened or Chrome would just not load even the fast travel boxes at start up. I uninstalled and installed again and I keep getting the same problem so now I just uninstalled it since it seems that it just won't work anymore. After that I noticed that Firefox opens random links to advertisements in new tabs from time to time. It is not that bad but it is really annoying.I tried using gmer.exe as directed but it seems to just freeze my PC completely when I try to save the log and have to restart manually so I could not save a log. I attached a Hijackthis log instead and I... Read more

When I am looking at email in outlook 2016, moving my mouse over a selection it will show the link. i.e. when I place my mouse cursor over "get coupon" the link shows. Sometimes this hides the button to select. Is there a setting to turn this off?

HI,The main problem i have is that Firefox keeps redirecting to other websites like hxxp://www2.shopodo.co.uk/shopping?qe=&site=na8k and others etc. This happens when i click a link after doing a google search or when a page has opened and looks OK and then suddenly it directs to these unwanted sites. I have scanned for MAlware using Malwarebytes in safe mode and removed for 5 items that it found. I have run Norman Malware cleaner, SDfix and ComboFix and all have come up as clean.Your help is appreciated.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by home at 23:06:22.17 on 28/09/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_17Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.510.203 [GMT 1:00]AV: ZoneAlarm Security Suite Antivirus *On-access scanning disabled* (Outdated) {5D467B10-818C-4CAB-9FF7-6893B5B8F3CF}AV: avast! Clicking on a link within an email has worked fine since I installed Windows Live Mail a year or two ago. Today, each time I click on a link I get an error message similar to this: Windows cannot find 'http://www.microsoft.com/ Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again I can cut and paste the link and it opens fine in Firefox. Vista Home Premium 32bit Firefox is my default browser. I checked Control Panel/Default Programs/SetYourDefaultPrograms/Firefox and it says "This program has all its defaults" This is not a Security issue. I allow images and external content from my Trusted Senders list but I get the same error message on those mail links. I don't know if the problem is related but Live Mail has been flaky recently when closing. Not always but often. I close the program and when I try to re-open it later nothing happens. When I check Task Manager it shows two instances of wlmail.exe running. I have to close those and then the program will open ok. This problem is not consistent. It happens once every few days. It's annoying but not serious. Being unable to click links is serious. I've tried to research the problem here but none of the suggestions have worked and most of them were related to Outlook versions before Live Mail. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Links within email suddenly no longer work

There are 2 solutions I can think of.
1. System Restore (If that doesn't work, try #2)
2. In Control Panel, click "uninstall" for WLM, then click "repair"

Recently a malware has infected my laptop and it makes web browsing reasonably slow (especially loading sites). I have ADSL2+ it's pretty fast before this infection. Here are the symptoms:1. I use Firefox 3.0.11 and my home page is the default Firefox google page. When I open up the browser it trys to find the homepage for a while but fails giving the "Redirect Loop" error. 2. When I do a google search and try to open a link, the window will re direct it to another site (completely different from the URL displayed in the search results) first it used to redirect me to a random MySpace page and then to you tube. but now it's erratic. It redirects me to all sort of random sites. I had to wait till this random site completely loads up and then close the tab and try clicking the search results to open the correct page. Usually this works. but some times i had to do it the 3rd time too.I even tried copying the URL from the search result. some times it works but most of the time it loads a random site. This happens only for the 1st click of the search result (regardless the order of it) then all the other links start to work OK.3. Also I noticed when opening web sites (either from a link or from a direct URL typed in the address bar) it takes unusually long time to open the site. the status bar displays messages like "Waiting for site" "Connecting to the site" and "Reading.." messages (among others) wrapidly and then loads up the page. This dela... This just started today. Neither Firefox nor IE will load some web sites. It was loading Google, but now am having problems getting a site to load once i've clicked on it. Specific sites i'm having problems with are CapitalOne, Directv, and one for insurance. On CapitalOne, the initial page will load, but once i try to send secure login, i get a connection timeout error. Directv will not load at all. On the insurance web site, once i clicked submit to send quote request, i got an error. It is like something is wrong with whatever it is that sends secure information.

I ran BitDefender yesterday and am running Spybots as i type. No errors have yet turned up.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Sandy

Hi, try what is known as a power cycle of the router. Turn off the router (at the wall) Then turn off the computer (at the wall) wait a few minutes and turn the router back on wait until the router has fully loaded and all led lights are on. Then turn on your computer. Try the web sites now.

WHen I get an email and I need to scroll down to view it all, there are lines (like lined notebook paper) across the email. If I right click, they go away until I scroll down further and then they reappear. Any Ideas?

Answer:Unwanted Lines in my email with Mozilla Firefox

Any Ideas?Click to expand...

Let me guess--you're using Windows Live Mail (Hotmail)? Until your post I had never right clicked on a message (my Hotmail account after 11 years is mostly a spam collector) so didn't know that trick for temporarily banishing those lines. Thank you for that. Whatever email you're talking about, I'm sorry but I have no idea about the lines or getting rid of them.

Let me just explain the situation here a little bit

Ever since Saturday morning, my computer has been acting real funny. If I was to move my mouse from the left side of the screen to the right, then about every two seconds, the cursor hangs and the comp freezes, and then picks up again. If there's any audio or video playing, then about every two seconds it freezes and picks back up again. When I start up XP on the windows loading screen, it used to take about 20 seconds top until the login screen appeared, now it takes about 3-4 minutes. I tried to access safe mode, and that took a few tries, when the computer finaly didn't freeze, safe mode was just as slow, but the hanging problem wasn't there

The online scan can't be completed cause it freezes my computer about 5 minutes into it (The bottom bar stops responding, the one with all my open windows) and I have to alt + tab between windows, but those are mostly not responding anways ^_^

The only thing that I can thing of is that I was downloading a movie called "The Island" friday night and when I tried watchin it saturday...well lets just say that it certainly wasn't the movie that had Obi-Wan (Ewan Mcgreggor) in it, and I believe that may have been the cause of my problem, that the .avi download had some kind of virus on it

Hi,Please do the following:Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:Link 1 Link 2 VERY IMPORTANT !!! I seem to have lost the ability to click links in Thunderbird which should launch Firefox and display the relevant site or page. If firefox is already running then the links appear to be OK.I have Firefox 3.0 installed which I believe to be the latest version and Thunderbird 2.0.0.14.I installed the Beta version of Firefox sometime ago and have undated as advised. I also appeared to have version 2.0.0.2 installed and after updating to version 3.0 it was hit and miss which version was being loaded so I removed 2.0.0.2 and since then have lost the link launch as described above, I have re installed 3.0 which appears OK in all other respects. What have I done, how can I reset Firefox et cetra to get things back to normal?Help please.

Answer:Email links to Firefox

You may not be able to get things back to 'normal' ... FF3 has differences which make some items not compatible as per the old version. Having tried FF3 I un-installed it and reverted to the previous version, I shall wait until the early 'bugs' have been ironed out before re-installing FF3. There is also a possible security flaw which FF are working on at the moment.

Is there a fix or is this developer oversight?

Answer:Dedicated apps wont load from email links etc.

Originally Posted by WPCentral Question I have noticed that when hitting a link for say LinkedIn or facebook within and email it will load in IE and not the dedicated app on my WP.
Is there a fix or is this developer oversight? This is standard, perhaps for security reasons. Allowing links to access certain apps may post a vulnerability issue to the OS, but by using IE the security of the links are verified (through IE) in the process of accessing them. This security verification may not be available when apps are allowed to open links, or when apps are opened when links are accessed. With this, I would say that there is no fix (since there's nothing to "fix") and that this is not really an "oversight".
However, with future OS developments, more secure app integration might enable this feature - of opening apps instead of IE when tapping on links. In fact, this is already partially working but only for the Windows phone store (e.g. when you receive an email with a link to a windows phone app, tapping on the link opens the store automatically... a few moments after it opens IE for a few seconds.)
You may want to create a Windows Central account to track responses to your query easily.

Greetings gurus. Internet trouble. As the title says, my mail will not load in any browser. Page load is very slow and most things time out at least once. AT&T ran line tests on DSL and everything was clean. Not sure how this could be. Speedtest was run many times and no probs. I even did some gaming which strains everything with no problems. I'm open to the possibility of a virus. Ran Avira and MBAM but haven't gone further. Strangely the wife's Facebook games are a no-go. Also, wireless devices work fine. Heeeeelp!

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I've just installed Firefox for the 1st time and everything is set up and running well except for the fact that whenever I click on a hyperlink in Outlook Express or Incredimail it opens up an IE browser window... IE was my previous default browser.

I know there's been another thread on this, but I tried all the stuff on that (checking default brower settings, DDE settings, URL protocol settings in windows explorer>tools>folder options>file types) but nothing has helped. I'm running win98, OE 5.5, Firefox 1.0.6

Does anyone have any clues?

Thanks

Until about a week ago, any link I clicked on in an email would open in Firefox. For some unknown reason they're now opening in IE, which I don't want! I've tried going through every default program setting, settings in both Thunderbird and MailWasher Pro, but can't figure out how to change it back. This is probably something so easy a child could do it, but unfortunately this blonde can't work it out! Does anyone know how I change this back to how I had it please?

Answer:Email links open in IE not Firefox, why?

Have you checked in Firefox:
Tools | Options | Advanced
General tab
Check the box under System Defaults
Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup
Click the Check Now button, see if it says it's already the default browser or not.
If not, it will ask if you want to make it the default, click Yes

Hello,

I've run into a problem with my computer. Somehow, it's become infected with trojans - the really annoying ones with the "Would you like to install Windows Antivirus" or "You have xyz trojan, would you like to remove?" popups every ten seconds in the lower-right corner. This happened once before a long while back, and I was able to get rid of it (however I can't, for the life of me, remember how), but they seem to be a lot more resilient this time. Every webpage in both Firefox and Internet Explorer is re-directed somewhere other than where I try to go, or to an "error message," (Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage, etc, only the text on the page is all wrong) and all of my anti-virus or malware removal programs will only run in safe mode. None of them will open when I try to run them on a normal reboot. I ran Adaware and Malwarebytes in safe mode, but the problem still hasn't been resolved.

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 14MB connection. Yesterday I noticed that web pages with advertising on them seem to load in very slowly. The hotmail sign in page loads in instantly and the only thing I notice different is that it's not spammed up with advertisements.

I've uninstalled ActiveX, Flash, and Java, and reinstalled them. I've also run Malwarebytes and my system was clean. I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 with an active subscription and a clean bill of health. This problem occurs with all of my browsers, Chrome, Firefox and IE. Tracert gives me good readings. I did a system restore back 8 days, and I still have this problem.

What happens is the following: The webpage loads in, but stops responding for about 15 seconds, sometimes Google Chrome asks me if I want to kill the page. At the bottom it always says something like: Waiting for ad.yieldmanager.com or
bids.open.net or ad.g.net. It's almost like Active X is corrupted or something and is having trouble loading in the advertisements properly. Suddenly the ads load in and the page then becomes responsive. Before this problem started occuring the pages loaded in instantly.

I'm not quite sure what to do here other than reinstall Windows 7. I'd like that to be a last resort if possible, and I'd like to get this figured out because I'll always wonder what the problem actually was.

If anyone has a suggestion or h... Read more

I have this problem with my Mac. I cannot link to any web site that appears in my email to Firefox. I can link from web site to web site - but not from within an email. I use Entourage. I have set my Preferences in Safari to Firefox as my default. I have disabled pop up blockers. I even called Apple Care and have posted on the Firefox discussion board. This is a huge problem for me and I would like to get it fixed. Any Mac users having this problem?

Answer:Entourage-Firefox email links don't work (Mac)

Which Firefox Discussion Board did you post on? Can you give me a link to your post there? There are two main Firefox Support forums, but there are quite a few other Mozilla resources out there.

Hi there -- I have mozilla firefox which has been working properly for a very long time...more than a year and a half, but something is wrong now. All images on a web page rarely load properly, and sometimes when I click a link, it takes me to a new tab and opens a single solitary random photo. It seems like a cookies problem, but the browser is running slower. I ran ediwo malware search and it "fixed" approximately 400 items on my computer. These were not on there when I ran ewido a couple weeks ago. Ad aware also found two items which have also been fixed but the overall problem is not.

Even Tech Support Guy web site looks weird...very simple, almost plain text like.

HELP!

Thank you.
Dan

Answer:Mozilla Firefox not running properly. Images/links load improperly

Does it look something like this here in the screen shot. I edit out the right side but this is how the page looks in the No-Style setting.
Go up to View and then down to Page Style and then See if Basic Page Style is checked and not the No-Style or it will look like the screen shot.

I find that MS Word 2003 ( also Excel )is suddenly very slow to load. The Word splash screen hangs for about 45 seconds before the program opens. The same with Excel.Subsequent attempts at opening the application start normally.I suspect that a virus may be responsible. However I have run a virus check using Norton and am told there are no viruses.Any ideas or solutions much appreciated.

Answer:MS Word 2003 Suddenly Slow to Load

I think it may be Norton scanning the office programmes. Check to see whether it says something like Running Virus scan in the bottom right corner of the screen when opening the documents.

Hi there...I'm not real knowledgeable about computer so I'm hoping someone can help me out. About 4 weeks ago, out of the blue, the internet started crawling on my home PC...it took minutes for pages to load. After doing a little research I download a couple of different spyware programs, found some things on the computer that shouldn't have been there and removed them. It didn't appear to be anything high risk (I currently use Webroot Spy Sweeper). The problem was still there so I took my computer in to Best Buy to get checked out. They said they removed 30 or so running processes and fixed up my registry but didn't find anything else in the way of Spyware or Malware or anything. As of now things are working much better for the most part, but I still have some sites that just take forever to load (in fact this is one of them). CNN.com took about 1:30 just now, but gmail.com took a second or two. I've tried unplugging my router and cable modem and plugging them back in. If I connect my laptop to the network it runs fine. I have a Dell XPS 400 Windows XP Media Center Service Pack 2. I have 1 GB of RAM (updating to 2 whenever it gets here). I run McAff Security Center and Spy Sweeper and occasionally AdAware. I use IE 7. Here is my latest HJT log (which means absolutely nothing to me!!)

Be sure that your HJT log is checked by a respondent who has a 'gold shield' to the right of their name/moniker. If one does not respond here, close this Thread at "Thread Tools" using "mark solved." Then recreate a Thread at the "Security" forum. Wait at least two days for a proper response here, however.

Firefox is default browser.
Thunderbird email link are no longer opening in Firefox when clicked.
Going on for a week now.
Tried most Mozilla suggestions but nothing worked.
In Windows Vista Default Programmes Firefox is default browser
and Thunderbird default email.
Had been working perfectly up to a week ago.
Am using Windows Vista.
Firefox 40.

Answer:Thunderbird EMail Links No Longer Opening In Firefox.

Are they opening in another browser? Are you allowing enough time? I've seen it take up to a minute in Vista. To make sure there's no clutter, clear FF cache and Compact Folders in TBird. If no help, type about:config in the TBird Address Bar. Scroll to network.protocol-handler.external-default and make sure it's set to true.

Hi,
Last couple of days I have noticed Firefox has suddenly turned really slow. It's not the internet speed - I measuerd it and all is roger, it's also not affecting the online-games I am playing, just that loading pages has become eerily slow and cumbersome. As I have never encountered anything like that before, I don't know what to do. Any advice?
And oh - yes, it is the latest version, I just checked. :)

When I click on a web-link in my Thunderbird email, it will open in my current Firefox window (let's say I have Techspot on screen).
Where can I change T'bird (or Firefox) settings, so that it opens in EITHER a new Firefox session (if not open), OR in a new tab (if open).

This only started happening since FF 1.0.4

On the same note, while creating a new thread, or answering a post in 'Advanced Mode', the cursor in the message-window is extremely nervous, probably caused by the 'jumping' smilies. True or false?
This is not the case while answering posts in regular mode.

sounds like a Java issue.

I use Mozilla 1.7.8 with the mail uninstalled and thunderbird installed seperatly. I have no problems at all.

Hi,
Have recently noticed that links provided in Pinterest emails begin to appear and then ultimately disappear in my default browser, Firefox. I have copied the website into both Internet Explorer and Chrome. In both cases, the website appears and remains. [UPDATED: Have just checked, and it's *any* link to Pinterest in combination with Firefox only.]

Have checked my Firefox Add-ons to see if I can determine the problem without success. Have run a System Restore to remove the most recent (8/7/15) Windows 7 critical update, also without success. Also, I run AdBlockPlus and can't figure out if it's one of those settings creating the issue.

Recently (two weeks ago?) ran FixMeStick which found many malware instances and two Trojans, and I removed all. (!) I hope I didn't cut off my proverbial nose to spite my face by doing that because I stupidly didn't create a Restore point before running the FixMeStick.

All of a sudden yesterday, Internet Explorer started running extremely slow. Pages would take 30 seconds to load, and in the loading process the program itself would hang to where your mouse cursor wouldn't even change by hovering over buttons/links.

There's no problem with the Internet connection, as Firefox works great. (Please no IE sucks responses!!! LOL)

Spybot has not found anything, but I know there must be something, as IE worked just fine two days ago. Would someone please glance at my HiJack andtell me if you see anything? Thanks in advance.

Hello

This is my first post. It is an issue that I have read about on-line but without a solution so I was hoping that someone could assist me via the forum.

I run a custom built desktop: Win 7 Ultimate with a brand new Samsung SSD, ESET Smart Security and Malwarebytes Premium running in tandom. This has been my set up for 4 years or more without concern. Until now...

Yesterday evening I returned from work, turned on my desktop and I ran a threat scan. (Please note that this was the first ever threat scan with rook kit enabled since the installation of the SSD on Monday evening). Almost at the end of the Heuristic (last) part of the threat scan I got a BSOD. I restarted the PC and Malwarebytes failed to load at all at startup (no icon in tray, attempted manual load and nothing).

Prior to this (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday since installation of the new SSD), MWB loaded instantly at start-up, a split-second before my connection status icon came 'on-line' - From Windows welcome screen to all programs loaded it used to take 5 seconds, it now takes around 40 seconds due to Malware Bytes holding everything up.

I uninstalled MWB using the clean.exe then re-installed it. I restarted the PC and MWB loaded this time but very very slowly. My network connection status icon also takes a lot longer to activate. The network connection is almost waiting for MWB to load. I ran another threat scan with rook kit scanning NOT activated and the scan completed f... Read more

Answer:Malware Bytes suddenly very slow to load on start-up - Holding everything up!

A couple years ago I had a similar startup issue with ESET and Malwarebytes and used Winpatrol to delay it's startup. See Tools To Delay Program(s) At Startup. That seemed to work but later I since switched to Emsisoft Anti-Malware and now just manually start Malwarebytes before connecting to the net. Since this set up works well for my system I have left it alone. You can delay Malwarebytes' startup through it's GUI if you are experiencing bootup problems. Launch Malwarebytes, click on Settings > Advanced Settings. There is a check box to Delay Protection at startup for xx number of seconds. You may need to experiment to find which delay time works best for your system.MBAMAntiRootkit is now integrated into the scanner (under Detection Settings) in MBAM v2.0 but it is not enabled by default. If "Scan for rootkits" is enabled, this will add to the length of the average scan time from previous versions and sometimes causes the scanner to stall (hang). If you want a more specific reason for what is going on then the Malwarebytes development team will need to investigate. They recommend you start a new topic in the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help Forum and report the problem there.

I have a strange issue where every webpage (whether via Firefox 3.5.2 or IE8) will always load slower on my Windows 7 system as compared to my Macbook Pro.

Both computers are wirelessly connected. I've ran speedtests on both systems, and both come out the same -
5.75 Mb/s (down)
.95 Mb/s (up)
22ms latency

But, for some reason, on the Windows 7 system, it always takes longer to open up webpages - usually by about 1-2 seconds, and sometimes by 5-7 seconds.

On the Macbook, some images and text will almost immediately appear, then fill in very quickly. On the Windows 7 system, I'll have a blank screen for a second or two, and then the images and text fill in slowly. If I were to venture a guess, on average, I think the Windows 7 machine renders pages at 80% the overall speed as the Macbook Pro.

Any idea what it could be? (I tried changing the pipelining values in Firefox and the initialpaint.delay value to 0, but it makes no difference.)

Recently, I have been having virus issues with my PC. Though I run AV software and malwarebytes regularly, I seem to have a recurring issue which may or may not have to do with lingering Alureon virus problems.

When clicking a link from a search engine, I seem to be randomly redirected to unintended websites. I have tried thorough scans using AVG (Which I subsequently uninstalled), Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and Spybot with no avail to this problem. Additionally, the computer now has a sluggish startup, and has trouble opening a web browser. This PC in on a education network.

I have run DDS (copy and pasted below). I think the issue is the following entry:

I have turned off The firewall, uninstalled norton, reset tcp/ip stack and winsock. I can ping websites fine. Email works, google earth streams. I've been to dozens of sites (on my iPad) with similar issues and worked through all the commonly recommended solutions. :( gone through all the network settings and Internet options.

Answer:Email works but ie and Firefox won't load sites

Hi there.you'd better run a malware fighter program for a start to see if your computer has been attacked by those annoying malwares or not. If found no malwares or spywares, It is a problem with just your broswer. and this might be an issue due to some missing Internet explorer files.Try to reinstall your broswers and upgrading them to the newest one.

I have no idea how this happened. Last week I was using my backup PC. I run F.F as my default browser. I noticed my home page was not loading properly. It was missing images & other sections simply wouldn't load right. ESPN.com would look crazy, sorta like looking at the site on a cheap cell phone. I would have to refresh the site 3-4 times before most of the page looked right. I then noticed that it took forever for the page to load. It totally acted like I have a dial up connection. I have R.R. cable speed. I thought maybe it was F.F. like it was corrupted somehow. I tried using IE & it had the same problems. I've rebooted several times with no luck. My laptop runs off the same router with no problem so its not the cable speed. I did a virus scan then rebooted, no change. I did notice that the whole PC would get super slow if I was running Limewire or Utorrent. I would not even be DL anything & the whole PC would get slow to the point my cursor didn't work right. It might take 10-20 seconds for the cursor to move across the length of the screen. I would always have to re-boot to make the problem go away.
-Does anyone have any idea as to why my Browsers are not loading properly?
-Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!!

I have R.R. cable speed. I would always have to re-boot to make the problem go away.-Does anyone have any idea as to why my Browsers are not loading properly?-Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks for your help!!--------------- -AMD 2100-1GRam-latest ver F.F.-XP-home

I have been using Windows Live Mail for years and have 3 email accounts synced in it. After some recent changes to my PC, the program is suddenly very slow to change between email folders. What I mean specifically is if I click on one inbox, and then click on my deleted folder, there is literally a 5 second delay before the view is switched to the new folder. This has never happened before, it normally take mere milliseconds to change between my email folders. Switching between any folders at all, even if they are empty, takes 5 seconds!!

As for the changes made to my pc, I recently was screwing around with my drive partitions and made a really stupid mistake. I accidentally created a new volume which took up my whole secondary HDD (not my OS drive, but where my emails are stored). Thankfully some quick google searching got me a free software that recovered my partitions and after a quick reboot my PC appeared to be working fine again. Except for Windows Live Mail... which when I opened had lost all my email accounts. I re-added them, and for some reason they started to download all my emails from the internet and wouldn't recognize the mail folders where all my emails are stored on my secondary hard drive. It took over an hour to download all the emails again, which were stored in the default location on my OS drive. I normally keep them on a secondary HDD to save space on my OS SSD, so I was forced to delete all the emails on my secondary HDD where I normally kee... Read more

I don't use it myself but if you look in Programs and Features you should find Windows Essentials or very similar, double click it and you should get the option to repair. Try that first.

I use Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop, and have had problems getting Firefox to load. I was advised on another forum to uninstall Firefox, reinstall to Firefox (Firefox 25) and make sure all the administrator boxes were unchecked. I've done this, but it still takes Firefox at least a minute to come up after I connect to the internet and click on the Firefox icon. If I right click on Troubleshoot Compatibilities, I get a long message that has something to do with Games Legacy Hangs and a lot of + signs. Of course, I cannot get this message to come now to paste into this email. Any suggestions? Thanks.

My Firefox 3.6 is slow to load when i first try to open it. Other times it is really good. I`m on Windows XP Home Edition service pack 3. Any clues please?

Answer:Firefox slow to load on first try

How many addons are installed and enabled? Any new ones?

Do you have Firefox set to open a single blank tab when you start, or are you using the session manager that reopens all the tabs from your last browsing session?

Do you have any other programs running when you open Firefox?

Do you have the setting to 'clear history when Firefox closes' enabled in Tools > Options > Privacy?

When you close Firefox, does it minimize to the system tray (this is an option enabled by using an addon) or does it close properly (no firefox.exe in Task Manager)?

Hello.

My Acer 3002LC laptop isn't particulary fast, but Firefox 2 take a very long time to load. I've used "Fire-tune". Does anyone have any other ideas as to how to improve its performance?

I attach a "Hijack" log for interest.

Thanks.

Answer:Firefox 2 Very Slow to Load

try fasterfox....

http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/installation.html

there is also a guide to speed up firefox manually here

http://forevergeek.com/geek_resources/speeding_up_firefox.php

you can also change/increase the amount of memory/ram that firefox can use....this would be based on how much memory you have installed

I'm running Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP Home Edition.

It used to load OK, although it was never sparklingly fast. Lately it has slowed dramatically and takes a minute or sometimes 2 to load up. I've tried clearing the cache, but it made no difference. Once it is loaded it is OK.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions about what might be the problem.

Hi my firefox web browser used to load straight away. But since I used an add on or extension there have been problems trying to load the browser. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Firefox web brower slow to load

In Firefox, go to Tools> Add-ons and disable all your extensions. Restart Firefox
and see if it loads faster. If it does, the re-enable each extension
(one at a time)
and restart Firefox each time until you find the extension causing the problem.

After my computer has been off all night, my first boot up in the morning always leads to both FF and WLM taking an inordinately long time to load. However after the first time, subsequent load ups are normal. Strangely, when I return in the evening and boot up again, everything's fine....despite the length of switch off being practically the same as the overnights time. Anyone any ideas?

I am trying to access the following XML feed:

http://xml.pinnaclesports.com/xmlfeed.asp

But Firefox says it cannot load the live bookmark...

The top of the feed says this:

As of May 2nd, 2005 the User-Agent field of all HTTP-Headers must be set. Any string will do.

What do I do here?

Also, Thunderbird takes an incredibly long time to load up with the little status bar on the bottom. I compact folders and delete stuff regularly but it doesn't matter. It lags forever before the messages in the Inbox appear. Any solution to this?

TIA

Any Add-ons installations or updates at about the time the problem started? Have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode?

I use google.co.uk/firefox as my browser homepage. On initial start-up it usually takes about 15 seconds to load, and then gets quicker - just 2 seconds. But if I keep closing the browser to do other work and then open Firefox again, it often takes up to 25 seconds to load the homepage from then on until the end of the session. Is there any reason for this, and can it be avoided?
I should add that the speed of loading web pages is not affected by the slow loading of the home page.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Answer:firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

The slow loading of FF is often related to issues with your FF profile.
Try downloading and running (no installation necessary) Speedyfox enter link description here
to tidy up your Firefox profile.
It may help speed things up a bit.

I have a Satellite L655 running windows 7. Recently I am having all sorts of problems with internet explorer freezing, also email, plus now when switching laptop on, it takes ages to load up, and sits on a black screen for a good few minutes.

Carried out all sorts of virus scans, malware etc etc and they all tell me system is running with no problems ... please, has anyone any ideas whats causing the problem and how to fix it, its driving me nuts.

Answer:Satellite L655 - freezing IE/email - slow load-up

When exactly did you notice the prob,if less than a month or two you might try doing a restore to an earlier time,,also you say you have done all sorts of scans ,how many virus software have you got installed, more than one will slow things down ,and you can get conflicts between them ,my favourite that iv had for years is microsoft security essentials, its free and good, mcfee, norton think they are poor, one other thing are you experiencing any over heating issues

I'm having problems with both Firefox and Chrome. Both are often, but not always, very slow to load websites. With Firefox I get a spinning green circle. With Chrome I get a spinning circle, too. I've no clue what the problem with Chrome is. It can hang and take so long to load a site that I have to close and start over. With Firefox it can be bad but not as bad as Chrome can be.

I don't know but suspect that, with Firefox, there's a lot of media content that causes it to load slowly. E.g., with newssites there are often multiple videos that play automatically and ads.

Any advice on how to address this issue?

Thank you.

Posting this from my work machine as I am having issues from home. This started recently that when I open a new Firefox window, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before I see anything load for the initial or homepage (Yahoo). If I click the X to stop the load and type in a specific URL or select one from my favorites, it loads almost immediately. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox to see if that would fix it, but no joy. When I did that, I did NOT delete my user information. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So, then I went to post a question here, it takes 20-30 seconds and then I get the following error message:

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Any ideas? HJT log below.

I can barely get my computer to work.

Pop up adds on fire fox, Chrome wont work most of the time, it just stays on a white screen.
I was trying to get internet explorer to work for a change but I keep getting the bar on the bottom saying "Add-ons are currently disabled' and have never been able to fix this. now i can hardly use anything.

I have the HJT, and the DDS, and the log from malware, but the GMER would keep shutting down my computer when I tried to run that.

Would someone be able to take a look?

Thank you so much.

I have been unable to run IE ver. 7, which had been running fine up until about two months ago. Basically, it stopped loading, and all I would get would be a blank screen; and I had to shut it down via Windows Task Manager. I installed the beta version of IE ver. 8, which ran fine at first, but is now running very slow. Even Firefox runs very slow, and it used to run just fine. Same with our email program. I thought that perhaps a virus got past the MacAfee antivirus program that came with our Comcast account, but running the virus scan turns up nothing. Thinking it may be a malware issue, I have run all the suggested scans in order. We are running a Windows XP Service pack 3. As this is my first post, I will attempt to attach the requested log files from those scans, and hope that someone can give some insight.

I found this website last year when a trojan got into my system, and the advice was great. I followed the suggestions that I found on the site, and was able to clean everything up. But not so this time around. Again, I am grateful for your assistance.

Answer:Can't run IE Ver.7; IE ver. 8, Firefox, Email runing very slow

The MGlogs.zip file is attached to this post.

I hope I am doing this posting correctly, as only three file can be attached to a given post, and apologize in advance if I am not. In the event that I am not posting this fourth file correctly, I would greatly appreciate any inputs reging a more correct way to accomplish this.

I am not too sure why firefox is faster at loading webpages... But why is chrome loading them slowly?

My internet speed is pretty good.

(Not sure if this is correct section)

Answer:Why does Google Chrome load websites slow... But firefox doesn't?

Both are almost same. there should be no noticable difference in time taken to load a page.

Probably 10 times a minutes, I get clicking noises like windows are opening and closing, but they are not(however an active window will become inactive-like while I'm typing this, I hear a click, then I have to reestablish my cursor so I can keep typing.) Then every couple minutes, after a click, I will get a commercial(no video) on different products, like Kraft chess, Wheat Thins, Worlds of Fun, etc. I did a Malwarebytes scan with no infections found. Everything else on my computer seems to be working great. I forgot one of the commercials "Congratulations, you're a winner!" That was just to add some levity to my stress.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by larry at 14:36:05.48 on Fri 07/30/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_16Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.1022.172 [GMT -5:00]============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgchsvx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgrsx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgcsrvx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exesvchost.exesvchost.exe 4C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgwdsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LogiShrd\LVMVFM&#... Hello everyone,

I began experiencing a problem Friday evening, February 27 with my internet browser. My default browser is Firefox, and I have a wired dsl connection, operating system is Windows XP, SP3. On Friday, my browser suddenly slowed to a crawl, to sub-dialup speeds. I tried logging on with IE and the same problem occurred. I have contacted my dsl provider and the line speed has no problems. In fact, I can access email through Outlook, and Itunes and my antivirus program's download speed is unaffected. I am able to browse the web through Outlook without any loss of speed.

I have tried removing and reinstalling Firefox without success. I have done a complete system scan with AVG anti-virus, and have also done the same with Iolo anti-virus (after removing AVG). Of course, I have emptied the cache and cookies, without any help.

I suspect a virus. I note also that Windows system restore appears to have been disabled, preventing me from restoring my computer to a functioning state. From previous experience, I know this is a common trick employed by viruses to prevent a quick fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peace and blessings,

Frank

Answer:Web browsing is slow with IE or Firefox, dsl and email are fine

Well, It sounds like to me it might be a Virus. However, I'd try downloading another Browser just to see. Try either Safari or Opera. Install them, and take a run. If they also show sluggishness, then we can be assured it has a possibility of a Virus. We can deal with that after we run a "diagnostic".

Post your performance after you get it done.

Well, It was a few days ago where my firefox started lagging, acting really slow and stuff. Eventually, it was hard for pages to even load, and many sites took minutes to load. I managed to get on google, (seems to be the only site that works), downloaded Spybot, and scanned. I found some regular files that were harmless, and one possible hijacker. I just sent them away, and the possible hijacker was stored safely by Spybot. Then, I tried to download hijackthis, the official site wouldn't load, and i went to Cnet to download it, I got a 0 byte file that says it's not a compatible system32 file (or something). Then I downloaded from majorgeeks, I unzipped the file, and it says theres an error (really sorry, I can't remember most of these messages). I restarted in safe mode, and I got the little bubble that said that Windows Security Center is unable to work, Click this bubble to fix this problem. I click it, and click fix now. It says that Windows Security Service is unable to start whenever I click it. I haven't gotten any farther than this, I don't know what to do. I can't post a hijackthis log because I can't really work this out.. Any help?

Answer:Firefox slow/unable to load, bad computer speed. Virus/Malware?

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. hello and to start off i'd like to thank anyone who takes time to read this and try to help me out, thank you.

I'm running win xp sp2.

On July 1st an infected file was downloaded and run. AVG and Winpatrol noticed this and prompted the user to take action. The user checked to block all changes that the infected file tried to make, and deleted the file. Then music started to come from the speakers. All kinds of completly random stuff that is not installed on the computer. In task manager there was a file "c.exe" after ending this process the music stopped and it never came back. I don't know if it is related, but the next day the computer started to have problems.

Gaim 99% of the time hangs and timeouts when trying to connect a screen name. I do not have a firewall and windows one is disabled.

To get firefox to work, i had to open the browser, it wouldnt appear on screen but the process showed in task manager. Then i used task manager to end the process tree. Then when i opened the browser it would open but run slowly. This no longer works. Now when i click to open it nothing happens and the process does not show up in task manager.

Internet explorer works fine and that is what i'm using to write this. The computer was also having this overall lag with everything i'd try to do on it. Ex: open the start menu, open folders, etc. However as of this last computer restart, not that i've done anything to fix it, the computer runs at normal spe... Read more

Answer:IE opens lots of screens suddenly .. help!!!

It sounds like spyware or a virus. Try run house call by trendmicro it is a free online virus scan. Also I would suggest downloading spybot and seeing what it finds.

Hello, over the past week or two my computer has been getting worse. Explorer will freeze sometimes when I try to open a folder, or right click an icon. When it restarts, I get an error saying there's not enough memory. If I try rebooting my computer, it will get stuck at the 'logging off' screen. This morning I started getting the 'not enough free memory' error just trying to open the wireless center! I can't open the Control Panel, Documents, or anything explorer related. Can anyone help fix this? I'm getting really ticked off. I'm running a virus scan right now. If this is the wrong forum for this, mods, please move it. Thanks! EDIT: Also, when explorer crashes, I sometimes will get an error ""The remote procedure call failed and did not execute" after it restarts and I try to open a folder. Are these related?

Answer:Lots of Win7 problems suddenly!

Welcome
Make sure the scan is upadated and make a full scan
Download and make a full updated scan with malwarebytes.
It may be a memory problem. If the above two are negative, take memtest86
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic...ing-memtest86/
Right click on the bottom task bar, bring up task manager and check cpu usage, anything unexplained and significant.?

Hi ... I'm using IE 7 which I like to use. For some reason now when I see a link or a webpage whether it be someone post or even from a webpage and it has a link to view another webpage it wont load . It did before, but now when ever I click on something it doesn't load. I'm using Vista SP1 Ultimate and everything is up to date.
Any idea what might be the cause ?
Thanks.

Answer:Links / Webpages don't load when I click on links in IE

First I suggest you clear your cache and try again. Best to use freeware CCleaner to automate and do the cleaning job. Reboot and try again.
Else I suggest you scan your computer with your anti virus and anti-spyware, as it is quite possible that it could be a malware wanting to prevent opening of a particular site/s.
Else, Internet Options from the Tools tab of IE7. In Security click 'Reset all zones to default level'. Click Ok. Restart IE and try.
Or else, 'Reset Internet Explorer Settings'. Open IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Click Reset > Close >OK. Restart IE.
If it doesnt help, pls revert, with a specefic example.

Answer:Suddenly lots of bsod in Win7, some help with debugging please?

You have some hardware issues. Three of the four dumps relate to your video driver.

I'll be back with more info. In the meantime, you might want to review these two threads.:

  1 downloadsHi everyone,

My laptop has been acting a little funny recently and I'm wondering why.

On Monday when I booted up my laptop (Samsung using Windows 8), I suddenly had a BSOD due to an error called "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA." As soon as my computer restarted, it was fine. I did notice that there were two new notification icons in the lower right-hand area of my taskbar: the little Windows action centre flag with a red X, and AVG's icon, also with a red X.

Yesterday I noticed that my laptop had been warmer than usual and the fan's noise was more noticeable than usual. I shut down the laptop to give it time to cool down. However, when it went to shut down, the screen was black but the power light stayed on and the fan was still running. I had to press the power button to make it shut down.

Once it booted back up, I checked Task Manager for anything unusual. AVG had been taking up about 5% disk usage and various Service Host: Local Systems were occasionally using ~25% CPU. I ran a MalwareBytes scan, which came back clean, so I uninstalled AVG (since I never use it anyway) and shut down for the night.

Today, my laptop is still warmer/louder than usual and every now and then, a service host will hog 25% of my CPU and 59.3 MB of memory. I did some Googling and found a few threads on here from people who have had the same problem. They were directed to use some antiviruses and other prog... Read more

Hi guys,
I'm hoping someone could help me as I'm tearing my hair out.
Basically over the last few weeks I've started receiving spam email in my outlook/hotmail email. I access outlook via google chrome browser. I've hardly ever got spam and any that I did, I'd set a rule for outlook to put it into junk folder, which worked great.
But over the last few weeks even after putting rules and sending it to junk folder, it just keeps getting worse. Now I'm getting around 15-20 spam emails per day.
But my concern is that many of the emails coming through are under titles of things that I may have searched for in the past. Most seriously are already marked as FLAGGED as though I've manually selected and flagged them as an important email.

How can this be possible?
I am running windows 10. I've already done a virus/malware check, but can't find anything and have cleared the cookies.
What can I do to combat this?
Thank you.
