I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I tried a few times, and held in the button. Now if I press it it beeps 2 short pause 3 short.

Answer:w550s wont start after bios update

Hello P1, welcome to the community,

clearly something is not right, have you called support to request assistance?  The phone number for support in South Africa is 0800-110-756; they are reachable 09:00 - 18:00  Monday - Friday.

That said, something you could try is to reset the system.  Remove the power cord and removable battery.  On the underside of the system is a reset hole, (Nr. 5 in the below illustration), insert a straightened paper clip and hold the reset button depressed for 3 seconds.  Once you have completed this please attach the power cord and see if the system starts normally.

Please let us know the outcome.

I have just updated my BIOS from 2.10 to 2.20 to try to overcome an overheating problem with Linux.
On rebooting the laptop XP will not start. I get the XP screen for a few seconds then the blue scrren of death flashes up beofre the laptop reboots. The blue screen is so quick it doesn't finish writing up the text - so I cannot see any numbers to check the error.

If I select Linux Mint from my GRUB screen the laptop starts correctly. I can also see the Windows partitions. I have tried to boot from an XP disc to run CHKDSK but I get to the stage where it says it is inspecting my configuration then hangs on a black / blank screen and just sits there.

Any ideas? Is it possible to roll back the BIOS?

Answer:Xp wont start after BIOS update on Satellite L

Hi,

> Is it possible to roll back the BIOS?

Yes, you can downgrade (rollback) if you have made a backup.

Can you enter the Bios and check if compatible mode enabled (after Bios update, it could put AHCI by default)?

Hello

I have bought my wife a Toshiba L300-20D ( PSLB8E-0CK00YEN ). It came with Vista loaded which she cannot get on with.

My grandson offerred to sort it out. He fitted a new hard drive, loaded it with XP and managed to get nearly all the drivers working with the exception of the WiFi .

After spending many hours he decided to update the bios from v1.8 to v1.9. Since then it wont start.. It comes up with the Toshba screen, Start windows normally, it then tries to load windows, flashes and starts the cycle al over.

He has tried the default settings, tried an XP disc, setting it to start on disc, nothing. It does just the same in safe mode.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Regards

Keith

Answer:Satellite L300-20D - After BIOS update it wont start now

Did you set the SATA Mode to "Compatibility" when installing XP? (You would see a BSOD with the code 0x0000007B - if Automatic Restart is disabled from the Windows boot menu)

The BIOS update would have reset it back to SATA AHCI Mode. So set it to Compatibility again.

If that doesn't work, try a System Restore in Safe Mode to return the registry back to a previous date.

Help,

having to use the works computer to post this. My home pc is failing to startup.

Before it had gotten this bad, I had experienced crashes and reboots whilst it was working. They became more frequent and now the computer wont start at all. The power comes on, the fans all whirr, but the computer doesnt even get to the point where it displays the introductory bios screen.

Any advice?

Computer is a little old now. Intel 2600k inside.

Answer:urgent help needed :( pc wont start

Sometimes a bad power supply can cause what you explained. It will just turn off then restart if the power supply is the problem. Another possible cause would be if the pc is overclocked(made to run faster than it's designed to), but you don't mention whether the pc is new/used or custom built or prebuilt, so not sure if that could be the problem. I guess it might be caused by bad ram as well.

Ok, so if you can, find out the specs(brand, wattage, amperages, etc) of the power supply(it's the metal box at the top back of the case that the power wires go to), if it turns out to be a known low quality make, it's likely suspect.

To check the ram, you could download and run this.
http://hcidesign.com/memtest/
Let it run 5 times(500%) and don't run anything else while doing so.

To check if it's overclocked you could download and run cpu z.
http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php
Report back the processor name and the core speed.

Hopefully we can find out what the problem is for you.

hi guys i have a lot of problems here 1st up we got hit by a cyclone and my computer was on and we lost power and now it wont load anything, it just kept restarting vista so what i done was install the discs i have here from when i bought this system, but what i did was insert the wrong vista discs the discs were for another vista machine my acer laptop and it got installed to the d drive so now i have found the correct discs for my system system called DELL windows vista home premium 32bit sp1 so i now redone the same process then i restarted the system and it loaded then i installed all the other discs that came with it such as graphics drivers, application, roxio creator, etc.,but now my d drive is full up of the wrong system and i carnt formate it as it wont let me delete anything , so how can i remove this from my d drive?i have installed the corect system into the c drive, but i am running into probles such as the system wont auto start i get this screen called windows boot manager and i have to hit the enter key to get it to load windows, and when i go into the internet the screen is so small i carnt read it how can i get the screen bigger so it covers the full screen not just the middle section. here is my system info that i just installed dont no if this will help at all sorry for the so many questions.

Answer:vista wont start (need urgent help)

Hi,

1) When you say you can't format your D drive, what error comes up when you try? Are you sure you're right-clicking the drive and selecting 'Format...' (obvious question, probably)? Post back here with the message (a screenshot of the message would be ideal) and I'll see what I can do to help.

2) The Windows Boot Manager has been installed on the Master Boot Record due to you firstly installing the Acer-specific Vista disc onto the D drive, followed by the correct Dell-specific Vista disc onto the C drive. It's designed to give you a choice between which OS you want to boot into. Once the OS has been wiped from the D drive it should hopefully revert back to its previous working state (i.e. auto-booting into the correct Vista installation). If not let me know and I'll tell you how to restore the MBR manually.

3) When you say you try to surf the Internet and the screen is small, are you referring to the size of the web browser window, or do you mean the screen resolution? Depending on which it is; you can either maximise the window by click the Maximise button at the top-right of the window, alternatively you may need to change the screen resolution if everything appears small. In which case right-click on the Desktop area and select 'Personalise', then choose 'Display Settings' and adjust accordingly.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Jon.

Hi, i seem to be having some considerable dificulties with my dell desktop. It arrived with XP installed but after several months dell sent me an "express upgrade" disk to vista. After I installed it the computer would not shut down properly, it would go through the normal shut down procedure, but at the end instead of powering off, i would get a blue screen error, and have to hold the power button to get it to switch off.

Several days ago, this happened slighly earlier than usual, blue screen error came up while the computer was installing automatic updates on shut down. Now, the computer will not start properly, it starts and then says "configuring updates stage 1 of 3" it gets to 33% of stage 1 and then freezes. This has rendered the achine useless as i can not even log into it.

I have tried starting in safe mode but the same thing happens. To add to my worries all of my school coursework is due in in 5 days time and its all saved on the hard drive, along with alot of photos etc so a clean install of vista is out of the question. Is there any way I can stop the updates configuring themselvs on start up?

Thankyou in advance for your help!!

Answer:Windows Vista Wont Start - Urgent help needed

Many PCs classified as "Vista Capable" aren't really. Here is one article: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/softwa...on-gets-go-ahead/0,130061733,339286250,00.htm

I think you first should have a little talk with Dell about your PC's capabilities and whether you'll be better off with XP or Vista.

I decided to update my laptop's drivers and went ahead and downloaded the BIOS updater from Lenovo too.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad-y410p...Before clicking okay I closed all programs and disconnect peripherals so I did just that and even unplugged my mouse and used the trackpad to click okay.Windows (8.1) then began the restart process. It shut down then turned on to what seems to be the BIOS flashing. I remmember it having the same current and installed BIOS model but the current version was 1.10 and the installed was 3.05After it was done (100%) the fan started spinning at full speed. I can hear and feel the wind with my hand on the exhaust vent then it shut down. Lights off and everything. Here's the part where it became grim. It restarted the power button glowed and the keyboard backlight lit up briefly as usual. Then it shutdown lights off and everything. And it did the process over and over again indefinitely. There was no lenovo logo. The backlight didn't even light up. Pls help I'm an engineering student and I really need this laptop right now.I've tried power draining it then putting everything back together and turning it back on again but with no luck.

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

Answer:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

Hello! We have recently aqquired several ThinkCentre A57 SFF computers, downgraded their OS to Windows XP and added the PCs to a Windows Server 2008 domain. Everything is going well except for the fact that each PC´s BIOS does not allow Windows to update the date and time it receives from the domain controller, as normal. Even in the BIOS screen I change the date and time, save settings, reboot and even before I enter Windows again, I go to the BIOS and the old time and date are there!!! This is a very urgent problem to solve, because the PCs are working in a pharmacy and all my user prints are coming out with the wrong time, date, etc  Maybe this is some simple BIOS option.. I posted this in the hardware section because i know its gotta be hardware related. On one of my older computers, which is a HP(bought in 2002), wont start at all. Not even the Compaq logo will display, which means BIOS wont start either. so i cant boot at all, or operate the computer in anyway. This happened right after i installed a gig of RAM, i was upgrading from 512 mb to 1 gig, they were 2 different cards, 512 each, and both had 189 pins. I installed them, booted up and nothing.

I really dint think there is a solution for this though, because after that, i put the 512 RAM back in and it still didnt work. Im thinking the motherboard was fried, by static electricity maybe. if thats the case than ill just get a new computer. which leads me to my next question.
How do i access my Harddrive? I have a lot of valuable data on there and an expensive music collection, as well as a bounch of backed up movies.
Any help is really appreciated guys, thanks in advance.

After updating I cannot start my notebook and BIOS doesn't start.

Answer:Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Do you see the Toshiba logo?

Was there a power failure when you updated the BIOS?

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, and leaving it for a couple of hours. You could also try reseating the RAM.

If that doesn't help, you may need to send it to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net (though I seemed to be able to initially). So I restarted the PC. But, it did not restart.

Instead I get the following message on a plain black screen when I try to run my computer:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

What is this file? I have an Acer Aspire notebook which came installed with Windows XP Version 2 (I have no CD drive currently).

I have looked on the microsoft website (I am currently on a different PC) but dont understand anything that is posted on their about this problem.

Do I need to re-install a new operating system? Will this mean I will loose all my data that is on my computer? This is very precious to me as I am travelling and I have saved on my computer photos and diary entries - I would be very upset to loose them.

What is my best course of action? Should I take it to a specialist. Again I really hope I can prevent the information that I did have saved on there from being deleted.

Thankyou to anyone who can assist.

Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

Had problems with virus, couldnt update Virus or Malware Protection. I did full shred System Recovery from partition ( HP-
A1130N -Windows Media Edition- Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Dowloaded AVG Virus and ran scan, all OK. Went to MS Dowload center and downloaded and installed 87updates to include IE8, started computer, all OK. Then updater said needed to download SVC Pack 3- took a loooooooooooooong time. THEN COMPUTER WOULDNT START- tried the two options it gave me but no go back to same black screen with boot options-- regualar- last working point- safe mode etc. no go.
At this point I did a full System Recovery again and downloaded virus protection again. I noticed some of the updates are for IE6 and later your install IE8 and it seems one of the updates was for Sc Pack 3. Wondering about these updates now, dont want to go back and have to do this all over again. I have all my important files on a seperate portable backup drive. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Answer:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Hi,

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

Answer:T460p BIOS update fails; "The BIOS does not match this system"

Call support.  Whatever happens, you should get the issue documented while the system is under warranty.  In U.S., the number is 1-800-426-7378

Question: BIOS wont update.

Hi everyone, I am trying to update my BIOS on my Lenovo IdeaCenter K330 Model 7727 from DKKT15AUS to DKJY15AUS. The reason for this is because my new GPU (Radeon RX 480 8GB) wont work. I install it and the computer just powers on but doesnt display anything. The fans all are on including those of the card. I have upgraded the power supply to 650W unit a few years ago from the ideacenter's original. So the BIOS update installs just fine but, once I restart the system it displays a error message saying: "Error: 0162 Setup data integrity check failure" along with 2 beeps. I restarted the system a couple times to see it the same error comes up and on the 3rd time the system started up without the error message. I then checked the BIOS version and it reverted back to the original version. I am not sure what to do to get the update to work. I do have windows 10 and the BIOS update is for windows 7. Not sure if that did have an effect. Thanks for reading.

I recently updated my 4 year old acer laptop to win10. I have a calender program called "windates" I placed a short cut in the system startup folder but the program does not start when I boot up my laptop. I did put a short cut on the desktop which works fine. Everything else has been working fine with win10.

Anyone have any suggestions how to get this to work? Thanks

Answer:Program wont start though its in system start up

you could also try uninstall and reinstalling the program. Or, you can also go to task scheduler and set it to load whenever you log into windows.

The mointor isnt the problem as I've had it tested it on another PC

Im hoping anyone would know a solution to this.

I have an amd athlon computer, not sure of the specs other than it's XP. The computer was running a bit funny earlier today. It froze 2 times, i restarted and it continued working, till it froze a 3rd time. After the 3rd time it said "verifying dmi pool" and then "press ctrl+alt+del to reboot" and requested i boot of a cd

I tried restarting the computer 3 more times, and now nothing comes up, and i hear the hard drive spin a little, then slow down...spin then slow down..and then everything just stops.

Is it dead? Are there other alternatives? Help!

thanx

Answer:Verifying DMI pool, now bios wont start

Your HDD has failed. But there may be other hardware that has failed too. Verifying DMI Pool takes place as the computer is accessing the CD/DVD drives.
Shutdown the computer and unplug the HDD and restart the computer. If you get passed the DMI Pool then it's just the HDD that is causing the problem. If you can't go any further, one of the CD/DVD drives may be at fault too. Unplug each of these to see.
You can also remove the HDD from the computer and attach it via a USB Adapter, power it up and see if it spins up and down or if it stays spinning up.

There is a phoenix utility available to assist making the recovery disk. The file wincris.exe, can be used to make a Phoenix Crisis Recovery disk which can sometimes be used in an attempt to restore your badly flashed machine.

The Phoenix crisis recovery process involves preparing a Bootable disk using the Utility wincris.exe and the updated or backup BIOS code which is renamed to BIOS.WPH Phlash16.exe is also needed.

Most makers with Phoenix BIOS require you to press a certain combination of keys whilst the machine is booting to initiate crisis recovery,. The choice of Key can be set by the maker and can be different for any given model or machine.

Using Fn or Windows Key with B or Esc, or F, or W only, should get you into to recovery mode. And a floppy drive is best, preferably a toshiba model or similar. You may find you have to try different USB ports also to get a result. Some versions of Wincris.exe will also make a usb flash drive for crisis recovery

Crisis recovery procedures differ a little between makers. For that reason you need to consult the crisis recovery information at your PC maker or motherboard makers web site and also read your manual and service information.
Also check your BIOS makers for any recovery options.

Hi to all!I just baught Z50-75 with AMD FX7500, 8GB Ram and FreeDOS. I installed Windows 8.1 Pro, and they pulled some drivers during the installation, and I went to Lenovo sight and downloaded all the rest (graphics, camera, etc.), after each installation the computer restarted normally and all was O.K. The last drivers that I saw on the site were BIOS drivers, and I downloaded those to and it started the installation after which it said:"The system will now restart for changes to make effect", and it did, but, it would not boot up after that, all it did was show me this on the screen:   And I tried both of the options (the second one with the Windows CD inside), but it just stays where it is, no effect.I can enter the bios and change the settings, but none of them seem to work because this is the maximum where it will go, the only difference is when I change from AHCI to Compatible mode, it restarts and than I have a blank screen, I have to use the One button Recovery to get back to this one from the picture above...I would appriciate any kond of help, please give me some advice.

So I updated my BIOS. I have an HP 150t and the motherboard died so I bought another one online and it was working fine but I decided to update the BIOS going into HPs website which mightve been a mistake. Now onto the problem: When I update everything was fine except it took about 20 seconds for the monitor to light up and after it did it took a really long time from the POST screen to boot into Windows. But after it did it worked like a charm. Now it still does the same except that it wont boot into Windows anymore and Startup repair has not been able to fix it. Thanks a lot for the help

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Answer:[T530] Battery error message won't allow BIOS update in System Update

Hello and welcomeDo not perform the BIOS update from within the TVSU. It's much safer to use CD/DVD and ISO image from the T530 support page.

I've just acquired a second hand T43 (2668WZT) that is working fine with one exception. I cannot get it to recognise a game DVD that apparently has safedisc DRM encryption on it to prevent copying. The DVD works with no problem on my desktop system but I thought it would be useful to be able to run it on the Thinkpad as well when travelling. Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm on BIOS level 1.24 and the BIOS level is now up to 1.29 which raises the other slight mystery. I've installed the latest version of system update but that is not flagging any BIOS update as available so I'm a bit reluctant to download and install in case there is some pre-req missing. All advice on either issue gratefully received!

Hey, I reinstalled Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit and I was running the system update.  The BIOS portion failed on me (not responding) and I had to reboot my computer.  Now it seems like the computer turns on but the screen doesn't turn on. Help.

Answer:Computer screen not turning on after BIOS update failed using System Update

Hello, if your dvd is spinning up, you could try to download your bios as an iso file, burn it to disc, and try to boot and flash from this cd.The last chance is to take out the battery, click power ten times, insert battery again and plug ac in. If nothing goes, call Lenovo support line, you´ll need a new system board.

Hi

I have been incredibly stupid and changed the settings in my BIOS setup. What is even more stupid is I did this by making it "Load Optimal Defaults" so I dont actually know what has been changed.

As a result of this windows 7 now cannot start, it brings you to the error fixing part where it searches for errors, cant find any and offers you some more options including system restore. Ive done a system restore but that has also not fixed it. I have little idea how to fix this, windows 7 was working perfectly until I changed the BIOS, but not knowing what was changed means I cant change it back.

The BIOS version is: 4core1600twins-p35 p1.40

Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thank you very much!

Rhodri

Answer:Changed BIOS settings now Windows 7 wont start

Hi Rhodri and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

This should be quite easy to fix. All you need to do is to reset the BIOS to its defaults. Boot up and enter your BIOS. You are looking for an option to reset it to its defaults (this is NOT the same as Optimal Defaults). Alternatively, remove and replace the motherboard battery - this will cause all settings to be lost from the BIOS, so you need to make a note of your current settings on a piece of paper so that you can restore them afterwards. This will include the date and time. For details on how to do this, the location of the battery and whether or not there is a motherboard jumper that accomplishes the same thing, see your motherboard manual. Please ensure that your system is unplugged from the mains whilst you do this.

Hi there. I have a Lenovo Z575 and I installed the BIOS update on the Lenovo drivers page and now my computer wont boot. I tried to reinstall Windows 7 but it wont boot from USB, so I tried to install XP from a disc and it gets part way through set-up then i get a blue screen telling me Windows has shut down to prevent damage to my computer and the error it gives is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. However, I now have no operating system on my computer so can't use any of the fixes I find online. Oddly enough, it installs Ubuntu 10.04 that I have on a disc. It's only when i try to install Windows I get any errors.I've already tried loading default settings in the BIOS with no luck. Is there another way to reset the BIOS?ThanksSteph

Hello,
I just got a used Optiplex 160 (Model DC01T) with BIOS A06 and have tried everything to get it to update to BIOS A10, A09, A08 or A07.
I downloaded the unified DOS/Windows BIOS and put it on a FreeDOS USB stick.  When I run the package it goes through everything and then reboots but never actually updates the BIOS.  I have tried installing Linux on a USB Flash drive installing the Dell OMSA tools and use dellBiosUpdate pointing to the A09.HDR file.
For whatever reason that also fails because the dell_rbu module does not populate "/sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu/" like it should.  Also no amount of copying "init" to  "/sys/devices/platform/dell_rbu/image_type" helps correct that issue.
The only thing I can think of is that when the system reboots it goes to an "Alert Fan!" message because this unit did not come with the HD & Fan bracket.  I have one on its way but if that Alert/Error is clearing the BIOS update flag then everything should work once the fan arrives and I get that connected.
If that's not the case is there anything else I should try?

Answer:Optiplex 160 BIOS wont update (because the fan is missing?)

I finally got it  figured out if anyone is interested.  The fan error might be causing the normal update to fail but using a bunch of switches you can force the update to install and then reboot.

I downloaded the Bios via Lenovo's site on my Yoga.  The Yoga was plugged in and the utility ran as expected.  After it restarted, it never came back.  The Function key was lit green and the keyboard would light up but the screen is black and it won't boot.  How can I troubleshoot? I already turned it off (after letting it sit there for a long time) and I get the same result.   I also tried unplugging it and hitting the reset button.  Still the same, its like it went into hibernation.  The power button is still on.

trying to update a x200 tablet we have here with the Windows utility AND the boot cd. Both give the message that the BIOS directory cannot be found. What am I missing here (besides the directory) Thanks,Fred

Answer:x200 tablet BIOS wont update

This is yet another example of why Lenovo has failed as a company to support its customer and why, after owning 5 of these systems and recommending them to companies and friends, I'm done. I also found this same error on the X200T. It is as if nobody tests these patch releases any longer. I also have a problem with the wireless LAN driver going out to lunch. All of a sudden the Lenovo wireless app shows a red X through the connection icon (lower right) and shows the radio as powered-off. I am unable to power it on. The only solution is to reboot. This is what I paid nearly $2K for on this particular machine.

Hi,I recently updated my Inspiron 17R (7720) to the latest bios however as soon as it completed the process the battery stopped working. When I go into the bios there is the following message:"Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature". The machine has been left off for many hours now and is very cool to the touch however the battery wont engage and the issue persists between multiple battery packs (I have a backup battery too). As far as I can tell it is the bios that has broken my laptop and I am unable to fix it on my own. I have spent many hours trying to fix the issue at this point, following all of the advice that I can find on these forums. I suspect that either the bios has a bug or the laptop has a faulty sensor. Is anyone able to help?

Answer:Y560 Wont Boot After Bios Update :(

Did the BIOS update finished correctly? Sorry, but I think that you will have to send it to the Warranty Service for a BIOS flash restore.

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

Hi i installed Windows 7 on the lenovo g550 and was getting the latest drivers and got the 2.53 bios. i got the message that bios flash was successful and then gave timer till reboot. The power light is on and the fan is spinning but nothing shows up on the screen. Luckily i did backup the bios onto a usb but now how do i go about flashing the old one back on.

Answer:G550 wont boot after bios update

If you have to, just hold down power button until it shuts off. Remove battery and wait one minute.Replace battery, and plug it in.Enter bios on boot and "load default settings". If you can't get into bios, post back.

I've been getting the "Thread Stuck in Driver" BSOD when playing games for several months now and have just been trying to ignore it. However, it's gotten too bad to be ignored any longer. I've been trying to download a BIOS update (as another thread on this topic suggested) but the System Update program refuses to download the BIOS update it says I need every single time. I can provide more info on my system if necessary.  Thanks for the help.

I had bios 1.25 I ran the thinkvangate toolbox and the update system, asking for lenovo updates.  It said there was a bios update, which I ran. Now I have 1.26. There are no more updates reported by the updater. Does anyone know:1) Is 1.3 a beta product?2) Is it not in the Lenovo update tool because they are very slow at adding updates (i.e. months late?)3) Is it safe to install Bios 1.3 manualy?  The only place I can find it is here - is this the correct source? The reason for wanting the update is that my CPU clock is fixed (wont go down on battery, and wont go up under heavy single core load), and also since installing the new power manager 3.62, the fan is stuck on permanently even on battery, idle and cold and the noise is driving me nuts.  There are no reported fixes in 1.3 for any of these issues, but people are reporting that it may fix them, so I guess the Lenovo developers might have sneaked some undocumented (but hopefully tested) changes in there. This machine is my livelyhood, so I cant afford on day downtime - so Bios udates are only done if desperatly needed and if no issues are reported.

Answer:No Bios 1.3 update in Thinkvantage system update tool?

If it is your livelyhood and you aren't having any issues, I would not recommend updating manually or otherwise. There is a risk you will brick the machine.

BIOS updates are rare enough that I forget to pause BitLocker before doing one. The result: Windows detects a hardware change and requires the BitLocker recovery key. Kind of a PITA to type a 48 digit code, let alone hunting it down.  PLEASE before running a BIOS update, prompt the user "This update will require your bitlocker recovery key on reboot unless you pause BitLocker encryption. Continue? (yes/no)". I'm sure it would save many users the occasional headache.

I used System Update on my T530 today to update the BIOS.   On reboot, the T530 hung.   With help from Lenovo support, I rebooted the computer.   Now System Update says the bios update was successful to 2.54.1.11, but SystemInfo says that the current bios is BIOS Version: LENOVO G4ET93WW (2.53 ), 2/22/2013.    Lenovo support said that they only support the hardware and this is a software issue.   They had no idea who in Lenovo supported System Update.   They also advised to rarely if ever to update the bios "unless the system doesn't boot properly".   I have never heard that in 30 years of IT.    I would like to get System Update to be consistent with the bios level.   And I believe I want to update the bios.   Can anyone help with either of these two issues? ThanksBarry

Answer:T530 System Update failed to update bios

'afternoon.

If you're sure you want/need the BIOS update, you can download it from your Driver Matrix:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073832
I would recommend the Bootable CD version. I've never had a failed update with that method.

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I have a friends Advent 5490 which starts up with the usual bios settings error low cmos battery and after I set the time and date its starts and runs OK. So I decided to replace the bios battery after which it will not start, the fan starts and then stops and the lights briefly flash on then off and that's it.The strange part is that I happened to put the flat battery back in to try it again and it powers up straight away apart from the obvious clock error etc.Has anyone come across this problem before or got any suggestions as to a possible solution. Thanks Mick

I was attempting to get into my bios, without really knowing how, and wound up in my RAID utility. I exited w/o changing anything (not real sure) next I wound up in boot sequence selection which I exited w/o changing (pretty sure) windows screen (black with 4 color flag )comes up with little bar under logo, after a few seconds screen flashes red, machine reboots, to a screen saying "windows did not start properly.....select: safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, etc."

This becomes a never ending loop: safe mode options displays a list of drivers, stops, reboots. Last good config, and start normally iterate to black screen with windows four-square, flash red, reboot, and back to "windows did not start..."

System is: Tyan k8w, 2X opteron, 2gb memory, RAID is a 0 (?) (2 duplicate drives), video is ati 9800 pro (which has been malfunctioning, hence trying to get into bios to change voltage) XP sp2, all patched, ZA, etc.

The bios is open and sitting next to me (wife knew how, why ask her first?)

Thanks for any help.

Hi, Last night I tried to upgrade a customers server with a Kingston 4gb memory card. On starting the server it would not even get into bios (monitor didnt get signal, fans running at 100). Removed the new card and server boots fine. I actually had two idenitical cards, one for another server and both cards produced the same fault. The card is a Kingston "KTH-PL316ES/4g" - the kingston website suggests it is compatible with the DL180 G6. I installed them to the second white slot nearest the processor (first white slot already occupied) Any ideas?

I have just upgraded my laptop to the new BIOS as stated in the title but after doing it my computer now wont boot up at all. I just get a blue screen with it asking me to do a CHKDSK because there might be a virus or that the hard drive isn't connected properly (when it is), and it just keeps rebooting.

It wont start in safe mode either. Anyone else had the same problem and if so, how do I get my laptop back?? :(
