Preferred Solution: Bitlocker requests recovery key every time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:X270 Bitlocker requests recovery key every time

Not much help here, but we are having the same issues as yourself, corporate Image using Windows 10 everyboot will prompt for a BitLocker key, working fine for all other models just the X270 / T470 I suspect something in the BIOS is causing this, but not sure what exactly. Regards Stewart

Using a Dell tablet, with Windows 8.1, I now have to enter the 64-digit bitlocker recovery key every time I power up the tablet.  After doing
so, it permits me to continue to restart.  Previously, I was only required to enter a password to get to the desktop.  If I run Windows update, or any other process which might require a restart, it will do so without having to reenter the bitlocker
key.  How may I determine what caused this change in powering up the tablet, requiring the entry of more that just a normal password?  This just occurred within the last 1-2 months.

I have installed and set up BitLocker on a Sony VAIO with a TPM 1.2 chip. The drive has been fully encrypted. With BitLocker on, everytime the system boots I get the following message:

Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption Information
The system boot information has changed since BitLocker was enabled.
You must supply a BitLocker recovery password to start this system.
Confirm that the boot changes to this system are authorized.
If the changes to the boot system are trusted, then disable and re-enable BitLocker. This will reset BitLocker to use the new boot information.
Otherwise, restore the system boot information.
ENTER=Continue
I have tried disabling and re-enabling Bitlocker (disable; reboot; enable; reboot) and get the same message. I have even tried disabling to the point of decrypting and then re-encrypting the whole drive. Neither apporach has worked. According to the BitLocker FAQ, one of the following should trigger the message I'm getting:

Unauthorized changing of the BIOS, master boot record (MBR), boot sector, boot manager, or other early boot components would cause a failure in the integrity checks and keep the TPM-protected key from being released. This is by design because unauthorized modification of any of those components could and should be perceived as an attack. Of course, the BitLocker feature provides methods for authenticated system administrators to update these components if required.
None of that has happened. Any suggestions?

Answer:BitLocker requests encryption key at every boot

When I tested it the setting didn't take effect unless I turned off bitlocker and decrypted the drive then turned it back on with the new setting applied.
I forgot to mention in the last post too, open an administrative commmand prompt. (right click on CMD and click Run As Administrator) and type "gpupdate /force" this reloads the GPO. (it usually take a little while for them to refresh by default.)
An earlier post in this thread states that you just need to apply the new PCR settings and reboot, but from my own testing you really do need to disable, decrypt, enable and encrypt with a new key. The only way I found to speed things up without having to wait for the drive to fully encrypt each time was to skip the test, and right away click on the pause encryption option in the ecryption dialog box. I would then perform my reboot test. I have to do it all again though. A reboot test and a hibernate test. It seems hibernating the workstaion also changes startup information on the computer that bitlocker doesn't like.

I am using a Lenovo Yoga 260 with Windows 8.1. Every time I reboot the Yoga it requires me to enter the bitlocker recovery key. The PC thinks a configuration change was made to the PC. However no changes were made. I have reimaged the PC and I am still
have experiencing the same issue. I have updated the BIOS and all the PC drivers but still no change. I have reset the TMP chip and decrypted the drive. Still the same results. Any ideas what might be causing this issue?

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

Answer:Bitlocker enabled drive, recovery key needed during boot, PCS did not match, event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

Hello and good afternoon, I have a issue where a manager started the Bitlocker process on the SD card in his Surface Pro 3

with Windows 8.1. The Bitlocker attempt failed at 3.4% completed but the SD card ended up being Bitlocked without providing the Bitlocker Recovery Key (I've never seen this happen before). He doesn't know the password for the SD card and of course
I've been tasked to somehow release the encryption so that he can get the required information off of the SD card.

Is there anything that can be done to release the encryption on the SD card or has the SD card been made non-accessible moving forward?

For some reason, my USB mice on my computer constantly popup a "add new hardware" dialog box requesting to install. It only happens on this one particular system. (ASRock 939 Dual). The same hardware has no problems via simply plugging them into the USB on other computers. They are recognized as mice/keyboards and are instantly usable.

This proves a problem every time I go to a LAN party and reinsert my mouse and keyboard. I am unable to actualy click though the dialog boxes becuase I have no mouse or keyboard. I always have to keep a USB-ps2 converter with me in order to get past the installation of devices I've used already!

I've spent some time on google trying to figgure it out, but I've had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Hey,

Yeah, I had a very similar problem with my 939Dual at a LAN party. I was running into problems with my Logitech MX510 back in the day...try downloading the newest drivers for your specific mouse, uninstalling and reinstalling (if necessary), and try different USB ports. Maybe uninstall and reinstall the chipset drivers for the mobo?

Good luck.

I know a BIOS update on my Latitude with Windows 8 and Bitlocker activated on the O/S drive triggers Bit locker recovery on startup. I don't have the recovery key and so am stuck. How to recover without the Bit Locker recovery key?

Answer:BIOS update without suspending Bitlocker has triggered a recovery and on start up I am prompted for the recovery key

The solution I found was to install the previous version of the BIOS, but without being able to boot into Windows, I needed to install the previous version of the BIOS in DOS. Some server products provide a F12 boot up menu option to roll back a BIOS update, but this is not available in my Latitude.

I downloaded the correct BIOS version (the additional info section made specific reference to it being installable from Windows or DOS). I prepared a bootable USB key (to a dos prompt) and copied the bios installer executable to the memory stick.

Because secure boot (UEFI) is enabled, it is not possible to boot up from USB key, so legacy boot mode needs to be enabled. There were 3 settings that required changing in the BIOS before I was able to boot from the USB key.

Once I was able to boot into DOS from the USB key and got to the DOS prompt, I ran the BIOS update exe. The laptop rebooted, installed the previous BIOS version and then rebooted again. I pressed F2 to get into the BIOS and changed back the settings as they were (secure boot UEFI). I then managed to boot into windows without being prompted for the Bit locker recovery key.

You able to export or view the Bitlocker recovery key by going to Control Panel -> Security -> Bit locker Management, and temporarily suspend protection (until the next reboot). It is possible to run a commandlet to specify the number of reboots bit locker should be suspended for.

You may find that installing the previous version of the ... Read more

Since the 1607 upgrade, a win10 laptop times out all requests from our LAN to its Apache web server and to its MySQL server.
The apache & mysql servers on the win 10 machine are functioning normally for local browser and database requests.
Other LAN machines can ping the machine, and can browse its files & folders eg with Windows Explorer.
But all webserver and MySQL server connection requests to it from the LAN time out.
Turning off the win10's antivirus software makes no diff.
How do I fix this?

Answer:since 1607 upgrade, all lan browser & database requests time out

Are you running any kind of Firewall? You really are best to run a LAMP server on Linux, not on Windows. You can use a Raspberry Pi 3 with a 64gb Class 10 Micro SD card running Raspbian.

Answer:Connecting to internet but ping/tracert requests time out

Are you actually having any problems or is it just the ping fails?

The sites, and routers between you and them, have probably been configured to ignore ICMP Echo requests (as used by PING and TRACERT) as while it may only be 4 packets of data to process, if thousands of people try it at the same time the servers and routers cannot perform the functions they are designed for.

I've never used Bitlcoker before

Have win 8.1 pro

Can I use this to encrypt my office 365 access database files or folders, too?

If so, how?

Also, I'm currently saving files to 'skydrive / myusername'. Is that the same as the new Onedrive pro?

I want to understand where to save my files to have BOTH local & onedrive copies. THANKS !

Answer:How to use BitLocker for first time user

Bitlocker is only for Drives, USBs, partitions and other forms of drive. However Bitlocker is not available for skydrive for it is not a drive. You can encrypt files by using Microsoft Office's built-in encryption. If you want you can put your local files on a usb or you can make a partition and then encrypt it with bitlocker.

There is no other way that I know that can encrypt BOTH local and Onedrive, your best option is to encrypt all the files one by one using Microsoft office's encryption (or password lock)

Hello

Thought I'd ask before I do something stupid
I'd like to encrypt my fileservers with Bitlocker but I wonder how fast it is these days? The servers run Windows 8.1 and when trying on another system I get about 100MB reads and writes during encryption - is this somewhere in the ballpark for performance? Oh and the cpu supports hardware encryption as well

Thanks in advance
Edit:

Just finished encrypting a Raid6 array with 8x2TB drives. Time approximately 24 hours and an average speed of about 125-130MB/sec. Cpu is an AMD A4 5300 dual core cpu. Not so bad imho.

After I restored to default settings in the bios , I get into this problem of bitlocker requiring the key to start. I tried to suspend bit locker but bit locker management is not available . OS is win 8.1 , product is Dell Venue Pro 11 Tablet.

When I tried to use elevated command to disable bitlocker , the system does not recognize "protectors" in the command line.

What am I to do? I am sick of entering the very long Key , each time I bootup

Tks

Problem solved.

I must have miss typed the command to disable Bitlocker the first time I tried it.

After disabling and re enabling . It is OK again.

I still find it strange that the Bit Locker On/Off Encryption function is not available from the Control Panel.

I went out and bought a 128gb 1.8" SSD for the purpose of upgrading my x301 to Win 7.  I really wanted to preserve my old XP environment on the stock 64gb. I did a fresh Win 7 Ultimate install, initially I installed the 64bit version but found my VPN software would not support it so then I wiped and installed 32 bit.  I did leave the 100mb partition that the 64bit version created. Installed Win 7 32bit, installed the lenovo software update program and let it put all of the software on the laptop.  Did the win 7 update thing (this all took the better part of a day). I wresteled the TPM chip and now have it owned by win 7.  Had to do the "hit esc" till the red win7 loader, power off, enter bios, clear keys method, but it worked.  Now Win 7 says it ownes the tpm. Trying to turn on Bitlocker doing the "key test" results in the screen on every reboot saying that something has changed.  I then turned on bitlocker, let it encrypt drive without doing the test and it completed sucessfully but every reboot asks for the recovery key. I've tried just about every "fix" I can find for this, including, changing bios boot order to only include hdd, suspending/resuming BL and a host of other things as well, updated bios.  Nothing seems to work.  I'd really like to use bit locker but not if it is not going to work right. I did come across a post that involved some policy editing then turning of/on again and have not yet trie... Answer:X301 Bitlocker asking for recover key every time.

I believe I found the problem enabling bitlocker on my x301.  I tried just about every possible thing I could find on the internet and was unable to get it enabled.  Every time on the next boot I would get the message (pre windows), from the bios that the environment had been changed and bitlocker would fail to encrypt the drive.  If I encrypted the drive without the bitlocker test it would encrypt but every boot would make me enter they recovery key in order to boot. Last night I found a post that indicated that bitlocker would make a 300 meg partition (100 for itself, 200 for oem utilities).  That got me thinking.  Today I decided to shrink my system partition and leave some unpartitioned space on the drive in case it was trying to make this partition.  That's when things changed.  Suddenly bitlocker started working properly.  I still only see the 100 meg windows partition, but maybe there is another hidden partition that it was unable to create because I had given all the space to my system drive.  I left 500 megs unpartitioned, enabled bitlocker and it's working fine.  For me, problem solved.  Hope this helps someone.  One nice thing about Win7 is that it allows you to shrink/expand volumns right from disk management so no playing around with PE boot disks.

Hi,

I have a new Windows 8.1 machine and I wish to encrypt the drive using Bitlocker. It gives me 4 options to save a recovery key
1. Save to your Microsoft account
2. Save to a USB flash drive
3. Save to a file
4. Print the recovery key

Option 1 isn't available as I'm logged on using a local account.
i. What is the difference between options 2 & 3? i.e. I could save to a file on a USB drive
ii. Does option 2 mean the USB flash drive cannot then be used for other purposes?
iii. Does option 2 also mean I could use a USB external hard drive, or does it have to be a flash drive?
iv. Once the recovery key has been created, can the key then be copied to other locations or is it only going to work where Bitlocker puts the key?
v. Just thinking about printing the recovery key - can this be used without a password to access the drive, how sensitive/important is the printed key?

N00b questions, I'd very much appreciate your answers.

Thanks

Answer:Bitlocker recovery key

hello and welcome to eight forms , my opinion , difference between 2 and 3 ,2 will create a file and put it on the flash drive for yah,3 you will have to move the file it creates to a flash drive of external drive manually 'I would think you could take the file it create and put it where ever you want , I don't use bitlocker ,if I did I would print it and put away for safe keeping ,like I try to do will all passwords .and if the drive is pass worded that you store the file on ,then yes someone would need the drive password to access the files on that drive, is not that what passwords are for ,I would assume that there are people who could hack your passwords like they do others ,good luck

Unless you have the password, you do have a severe problem. Unencrypting the hard disk will be very expensive, that is, if it can be done.http://www.lostpassword.com/hdd-decryption.htm  There are companies that claim to be able to do it, but there is unlikely to be a guarantee that it will work. https://www.google.nl/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=how+to+remove+bitlocker+...

Answer:Bitlocker recovery key

Hello @pcsl, Welcome back to the HP Support forum. Thank you for your post. BitLocker is a Microsoft software designed to protect your PC against offline attacks, unauthorized access typically if your PC gets stolen. BitLocker is full disk encryption software. More info:>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitLocker>> http://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-bitlocker-encryption-windows-10 BitLocker was activated by someone and during the activation time it prompts the user to save/store the key in a safe place. If this is company owned asset/PC, you should turn to your company's IT support guys and they should be able to provide you with the recovery key. If this is your own device, most probably you use a slightly different BitLocker version for certain PCs and tablets known as Device encryption. Probably your key is stored in Microsoft OneDrive with your Microsoft account here :>> https://onedrive.live.com/recoverykey More info>> https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/12/microsoft-may-have-your-encryption-key-heres-...>> http://windowsitpro.com/microsoft-surface/locating-your-microsoft-surface-bitlocker-recovery-key>> http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21433-bitlocker-recovery-unlock-drive-windows-8-a.html Please, note that it is very important for security reasons that you keep the encryption key (Bitlocker key) in a secure place so that only you know it. Let me know if this works for you ... I have automatic incremental backups scheduled to run every day at 6PM of our server (Win 2008 r2). The task backups up important folders to 2 different external drives (X: and Y: ) running bitlocker. They are set to automatically unlock on the server when connected.

Once a day when I get in the office in the morning I swap the drives for an off-site backup. Every few days (about 80% of the time), one of them remains locked still after plugging it in until I double click it under Computer, then it unlocks (no password, which is how it's set).

If I don't manually go n check and it's locked, the backup fails that night. How can I get it to automatically unlock right when I plug it in 100% of the time?

Answer:Bitlocker Not Auto-Mounting Drives Every Time

I think I solved it. I was just unplugging the drive every time but for a week+ I "safely removed it" within Windows before unplugging it and it seems to mount fine every time so far.

I've tried just about every "fix" I can find for this, including, changing bios boot order to only include hdd, suspending/resuming BL and a host of other things as well, bios updated. Nothing seems to work. I'd really like to use bit locker but not if it is not going to work right.

I did come across a post that involved some policy editing then turning of/on again and have not yet tried that.

Just wonderin... Read more

Answer:Lenovo X301 Bitlocker asking for recover key every time..

I believe I found the problem enabling bitlocker on my x301. I tried just about every possible thing I could find on the internet and was unable to get it enabled. Every time on the next boot I would get the message (pre windows), from the bios that the environment had been changed and bitlocker would fail to encrypt the drive. If I encrypted the drive without the bitlocker test it would encrypt but every boot would make me enter the recovery key in order to boot.

I have the Recovery ID for BitLocker, but I do not have the Recovery key. Is there a way to look up the Key with the Recovery ID?

Answer:Have Bitlocker Recovery ID, need to find Key

Hi,
Could you please explain a bit for the Recovery ID of the BitLocker? Do you mean the first 8 characters of the password? And are we in a domain environment?

If we are in a domain environment, we could use
Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption Recovery Password Viewer to find the recovery password through AD server. Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption Recovery Password Viewer is an optional feature that's included with the Remote Server Administration Toolkit
(RSAT), which you can install by using the Add Roles and Features
option in the Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 Server Manager or from the
Programs and Features option in Control Panel.
And if we are in a workgroup, and the recovery key is missing, please take a look at the below article for all the possible BitLocker recovery methods:

Hello Kelly, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You would have already needed to save your BitLocker recovery key to another location for safe keeping to be able to use it.

If you did, then you can use the tutorial below that's for your OS or removable drive for how to know what recovery key to use from the recovery ID.

Hello,

I'm curious under what circumstances a recovery key can change and the numerical ID stays the same.  I conducted a test that seems to indicate that the Numerical ID changes if the Recovery Key is changed or if the system is decrypted and re-encrypted.
I can't tell if these are the only conditions under which the Numerical ID would change.
We have a system that we can't get into that the printed backup of the Numerical ID matches what we see on screen but the Recovery Key we have doesn't work.

When I enter it it says 'diagnosing' then it gives me options to either 'continue to windows 10' settings' restart' advanced settings' etc.
I have tried them all in turn but nothing works. It accepts my key number and then just says diagnosing and then goes back to the original screen saying 'enter key' again. I have entered the key several times and then chose a different option but non work. How can I get back into my laptop?

Answer:BitLocker recovery key not working

Welcome to Seven Forums.

I don't know anything about the BitLocker which is I understand is bundled with Enterprise and Ultimate Editions. Still I was watching this thread to read about this issue as it developed. As there has been no development for 19 hours on this thread, I now feel that there is no solution for retrieving the system.

You may wait a day or two more to see if some suggestions come up but the only way out now seems to be to clean reinstall Windows 7 all over again. I hope you would not lose too much data. I don't think that the locked up files shall be visible with Ubuntu and Hiren's DVDs.

Hi,
The Bitlocker recovery key is used for recovering the data if you have forgotten password. Please use the password key to gain access to these files.

Hello,
my laptop has freezed, I restart it with power button but now, at start up, BitLocker said that:

You need to enter your recovery key because Secure Boot has been disabled. Either Secure Boot must be re-enabled, or BitLocker must be suspended for Windows to start normally.

I gone to UEFI settings and define a password to re-enabled Secure Boot but BitLocker when I restart comptuer said that Bios secure parameters has changed... It doesn't solve the problem.

The problem is I don't have my recovery key. I tried to recover my recovery key using Microsoft account but I had to update my phone number and so my security settings are locked for one month. My question is :
Is it possible to boot on Ubuntu USB key or plug HDD to an Ubuntu computer, copy files and decrypt them one by one with my password session ?Is it possible to retrieve my recovery key using Windows command line and session password ? (I can access to Windows recovery menu so I have access to commands line.)Is a program to decrypt completely my hard drive exists ? I will write it on a USB key, start it, enter my session password and it will decrypt all the disk or something like that.
Thanks a lot.

Answer:How can I recover my BitLocker recovery key

What do you mean by "session password?"

Assuming you are using a TPM with BitLocker (which is the default) then there is no way to recover your drive without the recovery key. That is the entire point of BitLocker.

Hey Guys,
Im new here so apologies if this in the wrong section.
Basically, massive problem here - I have a WD MyBook External HDD and have used BitLocker to Go on it from Windows 7 RC, and I kept the recovery key in my main HD Documents folder. (This was a x86 install).
Last night I (stupidly) backed up the key to the External HDD automatically forgetting it would be locked later (as it unlocks on startup so I forget it would be secured elsewhere) and went ahead to clean format my PC to a Windows 7 x64 RTM Install.

Now, when I come to plug in the drive today, instead of prompting for a password as it SHOULD, I instead am askked for the recovery key which I stupidly enclosed in the External HD itself.

Naturally, this External Drive contains my life, several GB of music, all of my college work, images, videos and so forth and I cannot really do with losing it all.

The only other information I can give is that at no point was the HD fully encrypted by BLocker, instead I used to cancel it at each start up and it never passed 3.5% so does this mean not ALL of the data is encrypted and maybe the key I copied into there last night may still be safe (no BL encryption went on after copying it?)

If so, how would I go about possibly finding this? Is there any other way to access the drive without getting the BLocker popup? I already tried a Live boot disk, cmd prompt etc?

Thank you.

Hello everyone,
I am experiencing some issues with my external hard drive. I've decided to encrypt it using bitlocker. We're talking about a 2TB hard drive. The process started..it requested for a password and i have been provided with a recovery key. At around 90% the
process blocked/stoped. It started to affect my PC performace.
Suddenly, there was no longer a progress bar so that i could see how much i had to wait. I've been requested to provide directly my recovery key( not the password) so that i could unlock the drive . I kindda panicked..and reinstalled the OS.
The sad part, altough i have the original message that i got from the drive when i started to encrypt it with the full recovery key, it says its incorrect.
I've performed several test using CMD and all the avaiable commands i could find on the internet, but with no luck.
Have you managed to to get by from such a scenario?

Regards,
Rudolf Radovici

If you format the encrypted drive, it will pretty much destroy any chance of recovering the drive.

Hi

I have implemented BitLocker To Go at our company through GPO and recovery keys are backed up into AD DS to the computer object. I am now looking for a way to migrate these recovery keys to an other computer object as we are currently refreshing our workstations.
I have been trying to write a PowerShell script to backup the recovery key into AD when the removable drive is connected and unlocked on the new computer. You can retrieve the ID of the removable drive by the below cmdlet.
manage-bde -protectors F: -get
I am then trying to backup the recovery key using the below cmdlet.
manage-bde -protectors -adbackup F: -id {<id>}
This returns an error.
ERROR: Parameter "-ID" requires an argument.

Any ideas? Does this cmdlet only work for internal disks? Is there a better approach to migrate recovery keys to a new computer?

Thanks!

Both computers have no TPM, so Bitlocker is enabled without TPM, but this should give the possibility to start the computers using a password on 8.1 pro.

Can I somehow add a password to C2, or is my only option to remove the Bitlocker encryption and try again?

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.
I have password and key also.
Then I unlocked it for sometime, Due to my friend mistake, he deleted entire data from drive (which was enabled for bitlock). Data was huge so it just deleted without going to recyclebin.
So now i can recover data with DATA RECOVERY TOOL from partition.
But Its encrypted. bcuz in that drive data was encrypted.
So when i try to access its marked as not read (encrypted).
I think there is no way to put same data back in bitlock cover and unlock it or other solution.
If you have some suggestions, Please suggest.
I will be very thankfull to you.

Answer:Bitlocker hdd no longer a volume? (I have recovery key)

I ran into something at least vaguely similar when I tried adding a new internal HDD to my computer. I ended up having to disable secure boot at least one time to let the new drive get picked up by the OS, then I could format it and all the rest and re-enable secure boot. Seems at least worth a try while someone else thinks up something better.

All,

I recently worked through the Symantec Ghost process to create a repair partition. It works well except I only wish one could control acccess to is as a boot option rather than it being available to end-users.

My question is one of those is it possible questions. Has anyone combined the standard Bitlocker partition with the WinPE UFD partition needed to enable the F3 restore from the Symantec Ghost partition. If so, how can I accomplish this?

Would partitioning the hard drive and applying the UFD image to the second partition before installing Vista be all that needs to be done? Or will the bitlocker wipe out something important in the MBR when it is enabled.

Why, I have several systems dedicated to short term use where the image is static and Bitlocker is needed. If I can use F3 to reimage them rather than Ghostcast then it can be done anywhere the system is in the world. Otherwise it has to be done on a local subnet and it incurs more overhead in technician time and network resources.

I forgot bitlocker PIN on Win10. System gives me recovery key-id but I cannot enter characters like F,B,C etc that are included into the key-id. The input field that says "enter key-id" takes digits only. What am I doing wrong?

My drive E is locked and encrypted by Bitlocker To Go,it's a 500 GB Toshiba External USB hard drive. I forgot my Bitlocker password to unlock the drive
and now have misplaced my Bitlocker Recovery Key I wrote down. Is there a way I can retrieve or find out what my recovery key is? I am in need of getting the drive unlocked as I have very important data for work I need. Is there any way to retrieve it by the
ID number that is showing for my drive below? or any program that will unlock the drive? I have contacted my laptop manufacture through email already but have not got a response yet. I have also posted my issue here also! https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security-winsec/bitlocker-recovery-key-was-lost-how-can-i-retrieve/baafe62d-be54-41c9-81b7-868770e8b1cf?messageId=42726c2d-3cd7-4913-8c7a-d0e9740e51e6&auth=1

Hi all,
Bitlocker is controlled by domain policies. First time Bitlocker is enabled on a computer, the recovery is saved to AD DS. I confirmed this in Computers object in AD DS.
However, when the user changes the PIN, there is no record of the new recovery key. Is that normal?

When I then manually force the recovery to AD by using manage-bde -protectors -adbackup C: -id { recoveryGUID }, a new entry appears in the computer object in the AD. Although that seems correct, when I tested it, this new recovery key is not valid. Bitlocker
on startup refers to the initial recoveryID instead of the new one created after the PIN change.

Is is correct that a PIN change does not result in a new recovery key? If not, which policies should I adjust in order to fix this.

Hope my post is sufficiently clear. Many thanks in advance.

Info:Server is 2012 R2. Client Win8.1 Pro

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.

Ok here is the deal. I had a new laptop that dual booted vista and linux. the vista partitioned was encrypted with bitlocker. I decide to give windows 7 a try so I repartition the drive in to one large volume, format and install windows 7. Everything worked perfectly. The problem is after about a week I realize there was some important files on the vista partition before I wiped everything out. I have found several data recovery programs the can recover files after a format, however they only show files that where on the linux partition. My guess is that the bitlocker encryption is preventing these tools from finding any of the vista files.

So the question is, Does anyone know of a application or company that can recover files from a bitlocker'ed drive after it has been formatted.
