Dell XPS 13 (9343) touchpad/trackpad mouse issue help

Question: Dell XPS 13 (9343) touchpad/trackpad mouse issue help

Hi all,

I've basically spent the whole day looking for a solution (which I still don't think I have), so figured I'd try my luck here.

The trackpad/touchpad (mouse cursor) on the Dell XPS 13 (9343) will randomly freeze-up, stop scrolling, stop being able to mouse click, start randomly resizing/scrolling or will cease to do anything at all after a while. This is a known issue apparently and commonly experienced by most owners.

Does anyone know of an actual solution for this? Dell released a firmware update that supposedly addressed the issue however unfortunately mine started doing it again today to the point where I had to literally power the machine off and reboot.

From what I've read here:

YES!!! A SOLUTION/ACTUAL WORKING FIX! XPS Laptop's - Touchpad / Touch pad / Mouse issue. Windows 8/10 need apply. Scrolling in Chrome mirrors that of Edge. Now THIS is Precision. Scrolling you're actually used to seeing on a laptop. : Dell

It sounds like my next move might be to try installing the windows 10 PS/2 generic driver from Synaptics?

Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated! I can't really find any solutions or updates past 2015..

Between this and trying to update my sound driver, I'm losing my hair, FAST.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Trackpad on this laptop is become really unusable. The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
Please Dell fix this. For me this is the only thing holding back the best Ultrabook ever made.

I just got this laptop today and immediately noticed the same exact thing.  It's driving me nuts and really creating problems navigating.  I am really hoping this can be fixed with a software update and it's not hardware related.  I'm also wondering if this is just a flaw on certain units or all of them act like this.

WOW, i never experienced something like this, i cant find a proper driver for my DELL XPS 9343.
Why so many people complain about this problem and DELL cant take responsibility and help their customers that pay a lot of money for something that is not even working properly.

Does anyone know of a driver (Synaptic or Dell) that will make scrolling working properly???

Thanks guys.

Hi,
So I've just picked up my brand new Dell XPS 13 (9343) laptop today and everything is working perfectly. The only issue that I have with it at the moment is the touchpad scroll speed as I feel it is too slow for my liking. I can't seem the find the touchpad settings in the control panel, nor can I find any relevant drivers for the model that I have.
Is there a way to increase the scroll speed?

Answer:Dell XPS 13 (9343) touchpad scrolling speed.

hi,
i'm facing similar issues here. the touchpad reacts way to slow when i'm moving the curser or if i scroll up/down. it takes around half a second to move the cursor.
is there any way to fix this?
best regards,

I'm having a very serious problem where the touchpad is no longer usable (this laptop is only 1.5 years old!) because any slight touch of it causes the laptop to instantly fall asleep - screen goes black, lights go out on keypad, have to wake it up again pressing enter or power button.  I have never seen anything like this in my life and it started suddenly today.  I now have no choice but to use an external mouse.
Rebooted multiple times - it did nothing. Tried updating driver uselessly in device manager, of course it says it's current.  Tried disabling the touchpad driver and installing Synaptic driver instead, installation fails. Tried finding another or newer driver to install from Dell - put in my serial number on Dell website and it returns a list of drivers with precisely ZERO of them being for a touchpad - so there is nothing. I can't even tell if this is a physical problem or a driver problem.  It seems way too weird to be purely physical.
Any help Dell? I'm not counting on it.

I've installed all the drivers by running "Guide me" plus the following ones
Intel PROSet/Wireless Bluetooth LEGUI and DW1560 bluetooth
First of all it can barely find it, I need to switch bluetooth on and off and setting the mouse in pairing mode in some odd combination for it to show up.
When it finally does, I get an error that I should check if the device still is in pairing mode.

Answer:DELL XPS 13 (9343) can't pair with WM615 mouse

Same problem here. Only once my WM615 was found for a short time. No succes in pairing them. I have an Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7265 and Intel Wireless bluetooth.
The mouse seems to be fine. I can pair it with my mobile phone without any problem.

I have an issue with my computer in which when I connect two different pair of beats, one being powerbeat wireless and my other beats which are beats solos. When I pair the devices through Bluetooth, 1 minute into a song or just after pairing the sound cuts off. When I go into playback devices, the sound bar moves up and down signalizing that there is sound playing but nothing is heard through the headphones. I believe there is a connectivity issue between any Bluetooth devices and my computer. I have tried updating the drivers and repairing the devices but with no luck.

Hello. I wonder if there are any solutions for the following problem I am having with my touchpad. The touchpad mouse is extremly glitchy Please help, as this is a really basic requirement for any touchpad. I am currently a little disappointed as this is the most expensive laptop i have ever purchased. The touchpad/ imagepad has many functions, but the simple ability to be unable to point to exactly where you need to 20% of the time, is making this almost unusable. Notebook details: HP Envy 17 - Windows 7 - Model - 17-3270NR I look forward to your help guys! There are forum posts all over the internet of people trying to find ways to install hacked drivers or trying to find workarounds to get 3 finger swiping for navigating webpages or whatever else they want to assign these gestures to.  I know Dell is best bro's with Microsoft and they worked with you to get the precision touchpad feature in Windows 8 working with the XPS 13 9343, but it has worked out miserably.  I have personally tested the new version of the precision touchpad driver in Windows 10 where it supports 3 and 4 finger gestures.  It does not offer the granularity that people have come to expect from ultrabook touchpads.  You still cannot use 3 finger swiping to navigate in web pages.

Can we just accept that going with the precision touchpad driver was a bad idea?  Can we accept the fact that people expect features found on $400 laptops to be included their highest end ultrabooks?  Can Dell please make their loyal customers happy and let us use our touchpads the way we want to and not how Microsoft thinks we should?

Answer:Dear Dell: The Microsoft Precision touchpad driver for the XPS 13 9343 is garbage. Nobody likes it. Please make your customers happy and release a good one.

Sorry but I have to disagree. Microsoft is trying to establish a new standard with their Precision drivers. If they have success, in a couple of years all notebooks might have the same touchpad driver with the same features, and by that unify the touchpad experience across all manufacturers.
Notebook touchpads in Windows have been a pain forever, and this issue is about to be solved. Wait for Windows 10 to come out, there will be more options for gestures.
Speaking about the precision and responsiveness of the XPS 13 9343's touchpad, it is already near perfect.

I've tried everything. No one had ever had this problem, except me. Searching online and Youtube proved to be no help. I beg all of you who have experience with issues like this to please read.

When I first brought my laptop (ASUS Q304UA) , it was perfectly fine and no problems. However, up until 7 months into using it, the trackpad suddenly became unresponsive out of no where. It would jump around and fly everywhere when using it. The multi touch gestures would make the screen go crazy and do all sorts of zooms, multitasking, etc when just trying to scroll down. It was definitely unusable.

This prompted me to RMA it to ASUS, which took them one month to repair it. They had apparently replaced only the hard drive claiming it was a "bad sector" or whatever... Upon several hours of use after repairs, the problem was back.

I then RMA'd it a second time which made them replace the motherboard and trackpad. Unfortunately, the problem did come back, except it took a little longer (5 days/ 1week).

Now I know that this is NOT hardware because I encountered that restarts, restores, etc all solve the problem temporarily and then comes back. When messing with programs and devices, I feel the mouse gets a little better for a couple minutes but then resumes to its terrible and erratic behavior, rendering my laptop COMPLETELY useless.

I cannot do ANYTHING with this trackpad as it constantly jumps around and teleport making it EXTREMELY difficult to click on the ... Read more

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. However, a few minutes into use, if that, it starts to act up. By this, I mean the following: The cursor does not go where I intend itIt's laggyLeft click results in that omni-directional scrolling icon and trying to move the mouse means scrolling/moving the page.Right click moves off to the side and is generally weird and cannot click accurately.I can no longer soft tap to click/select something. The mouse moves on its own. As I was typing this, it tried to select/move/edit stuff. It's very erratic and makes typing or clicking or selecting very difficult. The page scrolls down on its own.I'm starting to think my laptop is haunted. There's more I can't think of right now, so I might edit the original post/comment with more info or make a subsequent post in this thread. I've tried to clean the touchpad with a lightly wetted towel (to get rid of any oil finger stains or whatever), and follow... Answer:Odd mouse//trackpad issue after waking from sleep

Not sure if this is driver related....

On the 9th it installed automatically the "Synaptics - Pointing Drawing - Synaptics SMBus TouchPad" driver now version 19.2.4.10 was 19.2.4.0 from out of the box... Could this be the cause?

I have had it in sleep mode for about 90 mins tonight and when opening the lid the trackpad was totally unresponsive for quite a while with menus flashing open, Cortana opening and closing... all without me doing anything...

Should I roll back the driver?

There seems to be quite a few issues related to the 'precision' trackpad on many laptops Dell is producing. I just bought a 15in XPS Laptop which is a beautiful piece of machinery. But shortly after buying it my cursor would float all over the screen. Strangest behavior I've ever seen. When focus is on a program trackpad seems to work fine but when focus is on the desktop you literally have no control over the cursor using the trackpad.
I've contacted support who have done what they can but now want me to send the laptop in for repairs. As this is most certainly a software issue I cannot justify sending the laptop in losing it for a month to some hardware shop unless they can tell me definitely that this is hardware related.
I will be posting a video of this behavior on YouTube. I've done a full reinstall of Windows, updated BIOS, Chipsets, run extensive tests, and still the problem continues. At this point the best solution so far is to disable all gestures and features of the 'precision' trackpad and carry a mouse wherever you go! Such a shame that a fine piece of engineering like the XPS suffers from basic BIOS issues. I mean it's the trackpad on a very expensive laptop.

Answer:Trackpad issue on Dell XPS 9550

"At this point the best solution so far is to disable all gestures and features of the 'precision' trackpad and carry a mouse wherever you go!"
That is what I did. The trackpad drove me crazy opening things that I did not intend to open. I normally use a mouse anyway so it was no problem shutting off all those gestures.

I know that many users find that the touchpad on XPS 13 (Early 2015) is not responsive, has poor scrolling performance etc. and tried to install many different types of 3rd party drivers.
I have found a solution that has dramatically improved touchpad performance in Windows 10 (for Dell XPS 13 - 9343).
It does not require any Synaptics drivers (trust me, I have manually updated the driver many times from 3rd party websites, the solutions didn't work)
This requires registry changes:
1. Run - regedit
2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> PrecisionTouchPad
3. Change the "CurtainDismissDistance" and "CurtainDismissTime" to 0 (this will eliminate any lag or delays)
4. Change the "GestureScrollMaxDistance" to your liking (I set it as 40 (hexadecimal value)
5. Restart

It works in Windows 10. You may want to create system restore point before doing the above. Cheers

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad Fix in Windows 10

to be honest, it is pure luck. I just stumbled upon it.
same as you and many other users, I have installed the Synaptics drivers and 3rd party dell drivers. Because I never got to the point that the Synaptics settings panel appear in my control panel/mouse settings, I went to forums to see what others did, and they went to registry to alter the Synaptics driver registry settings.
But then, I thought in reverse, if the Synaptics drivers never properly installed in Windows 10, then there must be a "generic" or "original" Microsoft driver functioning, and that is the moment when I started to search for PrecisionTouchpad registry settings, and I could not believe that the answer is already staring at me in the eye!
I suspect someone at Microsoft or someone at Dell has figured this out, or could have figured this out, as software & driver engineers are supposed to review every hidden setting, but it is a pity no one gets to the point of publishing this possible fix. And it is a pity because the XPS 13 is a wonderful little laptop, and now that the touchpad performance is nearly 80-90% of a Macbook Air/Pro, I am a happy man!!

I have using a XPS 13 9343 for about 7 months and have been satisfied with almost everything regarding the hardware EXCEPT the touchpad. I know that there are lots of other people here with the same problem.
The touchpad sometimes:- makes the cursor shake and/or move on its own without any user input- generates ghost clicks- freezes totally
The problems occur somewhat randomly, but more often if the laptop has been in sleep mode instead of power off. Sometimes the problems start right away, sometimes after x minutes/hours of use.
So far I've tried everything from changing settings, un-/reinstalling drivers, upgrading BIOS and also making sure that the touchpad is clean, but nothing makes the problem go away. So far I've just lived with the problem and used USB mouse if needed. However, I really need a laptop that works as expected and since the problem has persisted regardless of driver updates etc, I have to start making decisions what to do next.
Any ideas? Has anyone actually got a faulty trackpad working with just driver upgrades or should I start demanding changing the unit to a new one?

Now that the video flickering issue has been resolved, I am now frequently encountering a very frustrating problem with my new XPS 13 (9343).   If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes (not sure how many, sometimes it's 1 or 2, sometimes its 30), then mouse pointer disappears completely and the touchpad does not respond.  I can click, swipe, tap, etc. but there is no pointer.  When it happens I am forced to use the touch screen to shut down the machine and restart it so I can get the touchpad and pointer to work again.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Answer:XPS 13 (9343) Touchpad stops working

I have the same problem. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I have tried every touchpad driver version I could find with no luck. I am currently using this driver: Cypress Semiconductor, Inc, dated 6/24/2015, version 2.5.1.72.
I often find it happening when playing a youtube video or something like that, but that's probably just because I don't use the trackpad for a few minutes while watching the video.
When it happens the mouse pointer is either completely gone, or it is "frozen" in some random position on the screen and the trackpad is not moving it. It happens once or twice a day for me, and I then restart the PC to fix - annoying.
I feel 99% certain that it is a driver issue - and that no driver has been created for the Cypress Trackpad in the PC that actually works in Windows 10. If anybody know of a driver that actually works I'd love to get the details.

I have a Dell M1530 running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My touchpad \ mouse has stopped working. The pointer just sits in the middle of the screen. I even tried to use a USB mouse, that didn't work either. I got the newest driver for it from Dell, installed it & still nothing. When I check for it in the Device Manager the Mouse \ Touchpad has a yellow ! on it. Checking the driver for it, it says windows can't load the driver cause it is corrupt or missing (code 39). I can barely navigate around on it! Please help me! I just want my mouse \ touchpad to work again! I don't want to have to do a complete reinstall, I'm not that smart & would probably mess it up.

Hi, Any issue with the Touchpad driver or hardware would have no connection to the USB mouse problem. The problem if both are not working sound like a windows issue. With the USB mouse plugged in does it show up the Device Manager? It should show up and load drivers that are provided by Windows. If this is a new laptop, take it back immediately...You don't want to get stuck with a lemon. If all was normal and this started recently, do a system restore. If you have had this for a while, uninstall touchpad in device manager and restart. Windows will reload the driver and reinstall. If that does not work, download the newest drivers from Dell's site, install and repeat if nec.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: 18.0.7.40 as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

Is there a way to turn the mouse pad on and off on a labtop??

Answer:Disable & reenable Dell laptop Mouse touchpad

I'm fairly sure that you cannot easily switch off the mouse pad on the C610 - that's the one with the silly little joystick as well I seem to recall. Most modern laptops have either a dedicated switch or use an Fn key combination, but yours probably doesn't, so the only possible way is to temporarily disable it in Device Manager, but it's not really the best way."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

Hi,

I have bought the Dell Inspiron 1545 in 2009 which it had Windows 7, then it stopped working for a long time after it has been fixed due to HDD problems and connectivity.
But now I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 yesterday and for some reason that my Touchpad/Mousepad has stopped working, so I am just wondering if it something to do with the drivers or the connections inside the laptop which it might be loose.
Does this laptop has an enabled/disable feature on the keyboard to lock the mousepad, which I might've accidently pressed which I can't find where it is on the keyboard.
Thanks!
Yours Sincerely,

My fiancee's Dell Vostro 1000 seems to be having an odd mouse tracking problem that's cropped up recently. Every now and then, the pointer will suddenly jump to the Close button at the top of the window-- she's closed several windows unintentionally by clicking without noticing that her pointer wasn't where she thought it was.

She's running Windows XP on her laptop, either Service Pack 2 or 3... I don't remember if we updated it or not. Has anyone heard of an issue like this? I remember a while back that an old Thinkpad model, the R31, had issues like this when the computer tried to check the battery status every 30 seconds, that would cause the pointer to jump around erratically, but I'm not sure if this is something similar or what.

Hi,

I recently purchased a new laptop. Toshiba Satellite L50 B 1P1. In the last week, the laptop has developed a problem. The mouse performs incredibly inconsistently. On the lock screen, it will work without fault. However, as soon as the computer is unlocked, it sometimes just freezes in a set position. Both keys still work, and i know that the pad isn't at fault, as when spreading my finger over the pad, it selects icons in an up/down selection. The icon size can also be changed with a pitch, but the position will not change.

The resolutions i have attempted such as power on off, function keys, the FN trip and F5/F9 boot were all unsuccessful. However, when updating the driver, the mouse works. However (once bloody more!), when asked to restart the notebook, once restarted the mouse resumes said problems.

Any help welcomed....

Hope I got my point across.

Thanks,

SR

Answer:Touchpad/Mouse issue (Not Hardware)

Driver issue, but if the mouse is freezing, it is a hardware issue. Take it back or send it to Toshiba. I use a Logitech m525 laser mouse, because my hand cramps when I use the touchpad all of the time, due to Arthritis.

Hello,
I am having a Dell Inspiron 5537 ci7 with Windows 8 (64-bit) running.
Occasionally the pointing device starts to malfunction (especially after high-end playing games)

The problem:
"When I click anywhere on a window (be it browser or windows explorer etc..), the window gets deselected. I cant browse at all.
Another browser (Chrome) specific click issue (when deselection isn't happening- The tab closes when I click on it.
Right click also does the same.. (deselects the window)
The problem is gone when I shutdown and start again - Restarting usually doesnt helps"

Just had delivery of a new Tosh T110-107 which I have to say looks wonderful, however a problem. One bootup the touchpad works ok but as soon as I connect the USB mouse then neither work - making the system unusable, until I disconnect the mouse and reboot. SO what have I done to it?

Uninstalled McAfee and addded Norton 360 and Office (both originals) and thats it, the problem was found before anything was done - as it came out of the box.

Win7 Home Premium, never had problems with Win7 but then not used it on a laptop especially this model. Can only imagine its config/software but straight out of the box? Tosh must know there is a problem them - they have too, yet sold it?

ANyone else had this issue?

Answer:Satellite T110-107 - Touchpad / mouse issue

Ah answer my own question, mouse at fault, once the wheel is moved it all works, but one has to continuously move it or it don't work. Turns out the mouse was not part of the package, so my apologies to Toshiba, but then thats why I got him to buy this model - reputable manufacturer - great machine though and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about buying one.

Greetings everyone.
For approximately one month I have experienced problems with the touchpad of my laptop.
I randomly get a Code 10 in the I2C HID Device (a request for the HID descriptor failed). It renders the touchpad unusable or sometimes it just limits its functionality (like scrolling with two fingers and other gestures). I have already tried all available versions of the Intel Serial IO Driver and made a hard reset of the computer with no success.
At the present time all drivers have been updated and Windows 10 is in its build 16299.19.
Could it be a hardware issue? Thank you very much in advance.

I just received my laptop back from Dell after having the motherboard and touch pad fixed.  But now. Even when I go into the settings to shut off the touch pad. The led light on it does not come on like it did before. I have checked the drivers for it. I have from Dell's site. Even though the current one on the site says when installing I am trying to install a older version.  Anyway I installed it. And when I reboot. The touch pad is active again. So I go into settings and shut it off. And then it doesn't work. But again if I shut down or reboot. it's back on!  And the LED light on it is not on!  What can I do to resolve this issue? I am on Windows 10. And having no other issues other the touch pad. I hate that I have to make a desktop short cut to the settings just to shut it off when I turn on cause I don't know how else to turn it off.

I have an Inspiron 1525, and I recently updated to Windows 7 x64 from Vista. Obviously I have to update the drivers, and I am having trouble getting the trackpad to work. Well... it works, but I dont have editable settings for it. I want to disable the touch to click feature, but my mouse settings do now have a "Dell Trackpad" option. Where is the driver to download this option? Or is there some other way I am missing?

Thanks so much.

Question: DELL XPS 13 9343

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but, Im desperately in need of help.
Just earlier my dell XPS 13 froze on the dell boot screen with the loading circle stopped.  I'm not sure what to do because I can't remove the battery to restart it. I've tried holding down the power button but no luck.
Is there a way to hard restart the laptop that I don't know about?  This is really frustrating, anyone have any clues or a solution?

Hi,I've a Lenovo T61 laptop. All of a sudden the left click has stopped responding on trackpoint, touchpad & mouse. Through none of the options the left click is working. Tried googling out but found no workable solutions. Please help. Laptop OS is Windows Vista 32-BIT. Thanks & Regards,Gangadhar

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

Hi

I am having problems with the touchpad of my laptop Equium A210-1AS.
After a while of use the mouse pointer becomes unusable and just starts bouncing around the screen and becomes uncontrollable.

The only solution then is to unplug the laptop and turn off the power, on re boot the touchpad works again.

I am using Windows Vista and have downloaded the latest touchpad drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Widdy1961

Answer:Equium A210-1AS: Touchpad issue - mouse pointer becomes unusable

It?s very strange issue.
Could you please tell me if this issue happens after the OS reinstallation from the Toshiba recovery CD?
I have read on several Vista forums that some Microsoft Vista updates could have a bad influence on the touchpad driver?
Therefore it would be very interesting to know if this issue appears immediately after the usage of Recovery CD.

greetings

Hi All,
A friend I work with asked me to check out this laptop that belongs to her daughter. She said the touchpad wasn't functioning properly, previously her older daughter had been using this laptop. This laptop is currently running windows 7 home premium 64-bit, w/service pack 1 edition. The older daughter has one user account setup on this machine..she is listed as the administrator. The second daughter has her own account and is listed as a standard account. The first thing I did upon checking out the the issue with this machine is update the Synaptics Touchpad software to the latest version available for this machine (V7.2). What is really strange to me is the fact that the touchpad seems to function correctly on the administrator account, but when I switch to the other user account (standard user) it doesn't function correctly like it does on the administrator account. To be honest..I changed the standard user account to a administrator account temporarily so I could at least have access to run some test on the system..( namely, sfc /scannow ). After doing so I was informed no problems were found, I can plug in a usb mouse to a usb port on the machine and it seems to function correctly. I'm at the point now I don't know what to do as I've never ran into this issue before. That's why I thought I'd see if anyone else has had this issue before.
Thanks,
David

I've had my XPS15 since October, 2015.  The touchpad worked fine until 3 weeks ago when the mechanical click essentially stopped working--I can only get it to click by pushing very hard (10 times normal) along the very front edge.  It's physically broken, and it's not subtle.  It's essentially impossible to drag-and-drop, highlight text, or drag a scroll bar.
I called Dell and they had me ship it to Texas for repairs.  It came back 1 1/2 weeks later, but the touchpad still didn't work.  In fact, it was worse, as the front edge now sticks up 2-3 mm above the palmrest.  So, it doesn't work and it looks bad.
I called again and they had me ship it back to Texas.  It was returned yesterday, but the touchpad still doesn't click.  Per the paper inside the box, they replaced only the power supply and battery--I have no idea why.  (When I look online, it says they replaced the palmrest, but that apparently doesn't include the mechanical part of the touchpad.)
I called Dell again.  They want me to ship it back a third time.  Needless to say, I am losing faith.
Are there any other options?  I asked about taking it to a repair center local to me in Chicago, but they said there aren't any.  That's odd, as there are a bunch of them listed on the Dell service locator page.  At what point would it be reasonable to ask that the laptop be replaced?

Hi,
I have a problem with my dell XPS 13 (9343). Since 2 days my laptop is sometimes very slow. When I then open my task manager my cpu speed is limited to 0.48 () even when i change my power mode to high performanc. I've also installed the new bios A05 but without succes. There is 1 solution to temporary solve this issue: Plug in my dell power companion for a couple seconds and than plug it out. After that the speed limit is gone and my cpu will jump back up to 2.2 ghz. But when my computer goes back to sleep mode and then back to active the speed limit is back to 0.48 gh. Can anyone help me with this problem ?

Thanks in advance

I have a T410S with a docking station, outputting to a new Dell 30" monitor via display port. We've noticed that the mouse randomly jumps and clicks elsewhere on the screen when typing or just doing normal web surfing. Please be aware, that the computer is docked, and the lid is closed & a keyboard and mouse are attached (so we're not using the touchpad, DuoSense or laptop keyboard). Is this an issue with the Ntrigue DuoSense? the touchpad? It's putting a slight hamper when working, especially when typing emails, the cursor will randomly jump and click elsewhere on the screen. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! /Mark

Hi,
I newly got a Dell Latitude E7470 laptop, It was perfect until I discovered this weird issue.
Issue:
The cursor is moving slowly.when I finger oh the touchpad / pointstick had moved to the position I desired, the I need to wait for cursor to move. Sometimes I can see he laggingf shadow with my cursor. The issue only happens when Laptop wakes from Sleep with Battery(not plug in AC) or startup with Battery(not plug in AC).
Troubleshoot:

I had switched with all 4 battery mode(Dell,Balance, high performance, Power Saver)
The battery level is regardless, I had tested with 100%, 65% 35%,7%.
Full shutdown and reboot doesn't help.
I had the latest drivers for input devices installed as well.
The machine was newly restored with system image.(not related to OS)
No hardware upgrades.

Workaround: Connect External Mouse or Simply plug in AC. The most weird part is I don't even have to keep AC plugged in, I could plug in for 1 sec and then unplug, the cursor will be fine until I turn off the lid.
What do I want?
This is definitely how laptop suppose to work, and I don't have external mouse to carry with me. Can some advise what is might be the issue?

Thank you for in advance.

I have encountered a very specific issue:  wifi does not work when I have my brand new Dell XPS 13 in my motor vessel / boat.
I called Microsoft Store four times --- each time, the rep goes through a routine to reset the wireless adapter, checks the driver version, and/or flushes the DNS server.   The fourth rep I talked to reset several services that were not enabled.
I am unable to connect to the wifi at the marina, the personal hotspot on my phone, or my Verizon wireless MIFI --- because the wireless adapter shows a status of "not available" (after I run the troubleshooter and reset the adapter, I can connect momentarily).       I have several other devices connected to these same devices (the marina wifi, the Verizon MIFI, etc.) ---- so, I know that there is service available.
I brought the XPS into my home --- and, can successfully and reliable connect to my home router (through Comcast cable), to the same Verizon cellular MIFI.
What issue is blocking the wireless adapter when in the environment of the boat?   Is there some kind of interference that this particular unit is susceptible to?     (Again, I have three other laptops --- a Windows 10 Thinkpad laptop, a SurfacePro Windows 8, an iPad, and, two iphones connected to the available wireless services)
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9343 Wireless with Windows 10: Wifi not available

Hi,
It sounds as if there is something causing a specific range of interference that is affecting your system when you're at the marina.  It is weird though.
Have you tried deleting any wireless profiles you have on that laptop that pertain to the marina, then reboot the system and see if you can connect to your MIFI at that point?   It could be that the system is attempting to connect to the marina wifi automatically at start up, getting corrupted or some sort of configuration issue, and thus causing the networking on the entire system to fail out.
My idea is to see if we can make the system not connect to anything automatically but the Verizon MIFI when at the marina, to see if that will enable it to work.   Maybe not a long term solution but at least that would give us an idea on where to start.
What wireless card (make & model) do you have in the system  and what version of driver for it is currently installed on the system?
Oh, and maybe try turning off bluetooth when at the marina as well.  (Assuming you have a card that is both wifi and bluetooth, to try to limit causes).
Let me know how that goes and I'll try and think of other suggestions you can try.
Todd

Hi everyone
I bought a Dell XPS13 9343 two years ago. I've never had any significant problems. The only thing that bugged me was that sometimes videos behaved a bit difficult - they would move in slow-mo and without sound if i clicked fast forward or backward (way) too often.
Now I have serious problems with audio and video. It started a few days ago. Whenever I pause a video and do something else (even just for a few seconds), i can't restart the video i.e. press play again. The video then does the slow-mo and no-sound thing. I can only solve this by reloading the video, which is really annoying.
The other problem I have is the sound. Whenever a sound comes on for the first time, it's incredibly loud, even though it's not supposed to be. This happens with or without headphones, sound muted or not. An example is when I start a video - bam, really loud. If I click the volume I already set, it goes down to that volume.
I've already downloaded new drivers and the newest Windows 10 update is installed as well. The problems happen on web-based videos and .mp4-files saved on hard drive or flash drives. Flash player is integrated and activated in Edge.

Has anybody experienced the same problems? Any solutions, please? I'm kind of desperate, because I can't work like this.
Thank you so much.

Hi Dell,
My Dell XPS 13 9343 is giving me a lot of trouble. I am currently running Windows 10 on this machine. Whenever I turn this laptop on I get a black screen and then I somehow enter my password and after 20 secs it comes on. Sometime when I am working the screen randomly goes black and then I push escape key and some other keys and it comes on. In addition, sometimes when I am working screen just randomly flickers and then blacks out.
Can you please help me with this issue?

Thanks,
Jas

Answer:Dell XPS 13 (9343) screen blacks out and flickers

Hi Jass,
If i am not mistaken, i think thats the self panel refresh function for Dell XPS laptops. I have the same issue when I first bought my laptop Dell XPS 13 9350. But here is what I did to fix that.
-Go to Intel HD Graphics Control Panel. Once opened, go to "Power". There you will see "Panel Self-Refresh" and disable that option. Then close it and restart your pc. It should be ok. Screen flickering should not be coming in/out now.
Hope that helps,

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, but I am totally lost on this issue.
I have an early 2015 Dell XPS 13 9343, i5 with QHD+ touch display. I have been experiencing an intermittent issue where the system doesn't boot or even display the Dell logo, but gives a series of 3 slow, foreboding low-pitched beeps at about 3 or 4-second intervals, followed by a higher-pitched beep after which the fan revs and the system powers off. The front indicator light quickly and repeated flashes 3 amber followed by 1 white.
According to the guide at http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln295543/how-to-use-and-troubleshoot-the-xps-13--9343-?lang=en, the beep code indicates a system board failure, the common remedy of which is to replace the motherboard. What mystifies me is why this issue only occurs intermittently. For example, I am typing this post on my XPS 13 at the moment, and everything is functioning perfectly smoothly. But I could literally close the laptop, go get coffee, come back, and it would be totally inoperable. In the same way, earlier today I tried to show a friend at school how it wouldn't boot, and it woke up in 6 seconds as if nothing had ever happened even though it was making alien spaceship noises no more than 5 minutes earlier.
This problem has been haunting me since this spring. It happened several times with the same symptoms, and I ran a BIOS update (when it happened to be working) and the problem disappeared, only to return again ... Read more

If I boot my computer on battery power the clock multiplier is limited to x15. Presumably this is a speed-step thing to save power. however, if i plug in the (Dell-official and recognized) charger, I don't get an increase to x32.
If i reboot the system with the charger plugged in, I can then get the full clock speed.
Is there a fix for this? I have the latest BIOS, power management, etc.

Just got a new XPS 13 9343. Windows 8.1 64 bit.
I have a Bluetooth headset (shows BT508 under device manager). I paired it, but it does not show up under Sound-->Playback setting. It shows up under Device Manger. Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 13 9343 that came with windows 8.1 and I've upgraded to windows 10.
I would like to format it and to do a clean install to windows 10 and after that to create a dual boot with ubuntu.
I don't want to recover anything, just format everything.

My question is:
1. What is the best way of doing it? Is there any preparation needed before formatting (except backup)? If someone can point me to a relevant detailed guide it will be great.

2. Do i need to care that I want to install ubuntu as dual boot when I format and install windows? Or just to install it after windows is already installed?

Thanks.

The Problem
Main issue is that my Dell XPS 9343 Windows 8.1 is unable to boot (warranty expired a month ago).
Main Symptom
Computer goes past the Dell screen, I can access system settings but then I receive an error saying a bootable drive cannot be found.
What I have tried
First, I received error saying "Operating system has no signature. Incompatible with SecureBoot."I ran onboard diagnostics and everything came back normal. Next, I disabled secureboot. I received an error saying that it still cannot boot.
Then I changed the Boot sequence from UEFI to Legacy. I received an error: "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine."
I created a bootable usb drive for WIndows 8 using a different computer. It is able to boot but I can't access anything. If I try system restore, I receive an error saying "To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore." hen I try "Refresh your PC", it says "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the device and try again." When I try "Startup Repair", it says it failed to resolve the issue.
I also cannot start the computer on Safe Mode. I tried these instructions www.dell.com/.../en
When I press Shift + F8, I do not get to Recovery mode; nothing happens.

Hi,
I'm having a new issue with the laptop, which seems to be happening in the last few weeks.
The only change that was made of consequence was an update to BIOS A07 for a fedora dual boot. Incidentally I have tried the devices on the Fedora OS on the same laptop and they are detected no problem, also, both HDD's have been tested on another PC which works correctly and the USB ports on the XPS laptop are also functioning since smaller USB devices are being detected correctly.
Both devices are being picked up in the system tray and the drivers are showing in device manager yet they are not being picked up by the file system.
Any ideas are appreciated !

EDIT: One device is USB 2.0 another is USB 3.0, troubleshooting using windows states that USB 2.0 devices will not work correctly yet the same issue occurs with the 3.0 device.

Hello,
I purchased a Dell XPS 13" 9343 two years ago and my battery just got swollen - one side of the keyboard/pad got lifted. I've contacted the local Dell support, and in addition to that that the guy was rude, he they told me that battery warranty is only for 1 year so they cannot replace it for me.
I find it really disappointing, especially to their top tier laptop series. It's only 2 years and the battery is "dead". I think it is unacceptable for a company like Dell to have that kind of issues and not to solve them although the warranty period has passed.
I am aware that batteries capacity can drop, and their performance is decreasing over time. But in my opinion, swollen batteries is something that shouldn't happen, it's a safety vulnerability.
I really hope that Dell will consider this case again and replace the battery even though the warranty time has passed.

I have a Dell XPS 13 (9343) laptop which I am trying to connect to an external monitor. I bought a cable to connect from the laptop's mini displayport to the monitor's DVI port (this cable) but the monitor isn't picking anything up. I can connect a Macbook to the monitor using the same cable without issues, so I don't think the cable is faulty.
Do I need one of Dell's adapters to connect, or is there a driver out there I need to download? Is it possible the mini displayport is broken? I haven't used this port for anything else before and the laptop is fairly new so I'm feeling a bit clueless. I've searched for a solution but can't find anyone else with the same problem.

I have weird issues after the last fall creators update of Windows 10 on my relatively new ideapad 100s 11iby.On battery mode mouse and touchpad stop working after 2 unused seconds. To reactivate I only need to hit a key on the keyboard or a mouse/touchpad button. With this issue, the notebook is nearly unusable... I solved half of the problem with the informations in this link:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/touchpad-disables-when-on-batt... The Touchpad acts totally normal again, but the Mouse-problem still exists. Is this a known problem or does a solution (workaround) exist? Best regardsB.

Upgraded SSD from 130 GB (original) to Samsung 850 EVO 500 gb SSD. Now it says "no boot device found" for 3-4 start-up attempts. On the 3rd or 4th it then loads the o.s. which is Windows 10.
Not sure how to fix this or why simply restarting multiple times results in success.

Three days ago I purchased a new Dell XPS 13 on amazon, it arrived safe in the box will all the seals in place. It booted into windows 8.1, and without going into all the customization settings I immediately installed proceeded with a Windows 10 install, via USB. Note that I have used the same USB for many Windows 10 installs with no issues.

The Windows 10 installation went on without issues, I changed all the settings to match my preferences and installed necessary updates and programs. This took about an hour, during which the laptop restarted and was put into sleep mode and reawoken many times. After the hour, I shut down the laptop and let it sit for longer than 12 hours.

When I came to start it back on, the screen visibly got brighter, the fans worked and the backlit lights shone, but no dell or windows splash screen appeared. I initially thought that the laptop was failing to post and boot, and troubleshooted to that effect. Using FN + Power, I started the laptop in the diagnostic mode, and got this beep code: https://vocaroo.com/i/s16IPnsXSyHR
I also tried the steps in http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln300716/bios-recovery-options-on-a-dell-pc-or-tablet?lang=en to equally no effect, with the screen remaining blank yet seeming to work.

However, after a long period of browsing solutions online, with the laptop sitting after a restart in its blank state, the windows desktop appeared as normal. Now it did not appear d... Read more

Hi Everyone,
I desperately need some help here. I recently sent in my laptop for a screen repair at the Dell depot. I got it back last week and the screen works fine, however, for some reason they reinstalled Windows 8.1 on my system. When I sent it in, my laptop had Windows 10 and was working perfectly normally.
Last week a Dell technician helped me to reinstall Windows 10. The process started, and as it was installing it performed a restart (as it said it would perform multiple restarts). Well during the restart the computer just hung up on the Dell logo. i let the computer sit like that as I didn't want to interrupt the installation, however eventually my laptop just turned off.
I then had to order a USB stick from Dell in order to reinstall Windows 8.1. This time, another Dell technician helped me out but made sure all my drivers were up to date. Same thing happened during this upgrade. The installation got hung up on the Dell logo. There were no signs of any computer activity (no spinning circle under the logo).
I can't believe this issue has been going on so long now. I feel like since I sent the laptop in with Windows 10, Dell could have the decency to send it back installed. Their techs seem to want to help but are getting me nowhere.
If someone could please help I would be so grateful. Thanks!

This happens with or without headphones. An example is when I start a video - bam, really loud. If I click the volume I already set, it goes down to that volume.
I've already downloaded new drivers and the newest Windows 10 update is installed as well.

Has anybody experienced the same problems? Any solutions? I'm kind of desperate, because I can't work like this.
Thank you so much.

My wifi adaptor (Dell Wireless 1560 802.11ac) constantly crashes.
I am diagnosing this with the system log, which is filled with Event BCMWL63A with ID 5002: "Dell Wireless 1560 802.11ac : Has determined that the network adapter is not functioning properly."
Driver information:
provider: Broadcom
date: 2015-07-30
version: 7.35.295.0

I am running windows 10.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 (9343) Wifi Adaptor Constantly Crashing

Same problem with XPS Laptop purchased 9/11/2015. Have had intermittent issues right from the start with the 7/30/2015 driver.  Finally ran across these postings.  Just ran the rollback and now have driver dated 5/14/2015 version 7.35.267.0.  For the moment, the laptop is connected. It is a bit ridiculous that these are being shipped with this issue and Dell is silent.  Makes me think twice about purchasing another one...  If I continue to have issues I will post again here.  For now, keeping my fingers crossed.

So I get two sort of blue screen errors: Memory management, and bcmwl. This has been happening on and off since last year and I'm not sure what is going on. I worked with support last year and all we did was just update all of my drivers - problem went away for a few months but then the blue screening starts coming back. I can't identify an actual pattern on what causes this, tried going through event viewer to find some sort of trigger I am really just not sure. I have the latest wifi driver given from Dell's driver website - and I believe after running the "Identify drivers" search engine off of Dell's drivers website, it recently just pointed me to update my graphics driver as well as install some applications (Which I haven't done as of yet).
Ran system file checker as well as Window's memory diagnostic showing no problems found on both ends, please help - really tired of getting these blue screens

I just bought Dell XPS 13 couple days ago. I had a problem with backup and recovery which showing exclamation mark most time. I tried to download and uninstall it many times even factory reset it. This morning, when I turn it on, the system says that no bootable device found. What happen to my new laptop. Please show me how to fix it. Moreover, let me know how to remove exclamation mark because it is so annoying

Answer:No bootable device found on my brand new Dell XPS 13 (9343)

Hello,
Here is a link to the Dell troubleshooting article for No BOOT issues.  That would be the first thing i would recommend reading as it has steps you can try to get your system to boot up again.
You said you couldn't download the backup software.  Are you, or were you, able to get onto the internet and download other items?  Just want to confirm it's not an issue with network connection.
If none of the steps in the article above help then you may want to contact your local Dell Tech Support and ask them for help.   You can go to Dell Support Pages to find contact information for Dell Support.
Try out the No BOOT document and see if that helps. Please let us know what you try and if you succeed in resolving the issue.  If not, I'll see what else we can find to try.

I have had several issues when I used my XPS 13 and output video using the display port.
1. When I used a DP to VGA converter, video cuts off after a while, and will not resume.
2. When I used a DP to HDMI converter, audio from the HDMI would cut off every ~10 minutes. Unplugging and plugging the DP, or changing the project method from windows will temporarily fix the issue, but same issue would occur repeatedly.
The above issues seemed like the laptop cuts certain signal off after laptop not being actively used (playing videos). When I have constant mouse activity, then the above issues does not show, although screen would occasionally flicker (as  if laptop was trying to re-adjust resolution or something).

I wonder if anyone can give me some advise on possible causes? The most horrible part of these issues is that the first issue happened during my own wedding when I had my XPS13 played our wedding video.

Hi,

Read conflicting reports that the Dell XPS 13 supports NVME drives. Considering its a SATA M.2 connection I find that hard to believe. So was wondering which SSD 512GB or greater drives are compatible with the XPS 9343 - 13 laptop ?

Thanks

Answer:Does 9343 Dell 2015 XPS 13 i5-5200U support NVME drive?

If you want to know what it supports, go to the Dell download site and look at the specifications manual.  In the Storage area it will say SATA or SATA, PCIe  and note whether there is an M.2 option.
If it has the PCIe option it probably has the SATA option and a PCIe drive seems to be set up a SATA by Dell from the factory, depending on the system.
How old is your system?

I purchased a Dell XPS 13, however i keep getting crashes where i have to hard reset the machine. On reboot i get the error message "no bootable device found".
I returned the laptop to the Company I purchased it from and they returned it saying no problems identified with Hardware , they only re-installed the OS.
After searching the forums i think that this is a specific compatibility issue with the SK Hynix 512GB SSD.

Hi all,
as above - have just done a clean install of Windows 10 and can't install the Realtek Audio ALC3263 Driver from the dell driver download page.
The executable goes through the uninstall process, reboots, apparently installs some files, reboots, gives error: c:\windows\system32\intel_coinst.dll cannot be found, then keeps trying to install on a constant loop after rebooting again.
Appreciate any help.
Regards

How do I disable the blue 'mouse' button in the middle of my keyboard? I never use it, intentionally, however, when I type a 'b', sometimes my text position moves. Since the 'b' is adjacent to the button, I figure I must be touching it inadvertently. So, I would like to disable it. Thanks.

Answer:Dell mouse button issue

i'd imagine it's somewhere in the setup menu when you installed it...try looking in control panel under "keyboard". there's probably an option for it there if it's possible.

Recently on my xps 13, I've been unable to wake it up after it has entered sleep mode unless I did a hard reset by holding down the power button. The issue is that after I tried to power it on again, it would just give out 8 beeps until I powered it off.
I have phoned Dell and it seems like an lcd/motherboard issue, however, I have managed to eventually boot it up by plugging it in and powering it on, or by pressing the "d" key during boot up. Right now, it is working perfectly once booted which makes me skeptical of any hardware issue?
Any suggestions? I have reinstalled the BIOS and any recent drivers?

When I use a mouse, I want to use it with my left hand, which means I want the mouse buttons reversed--right button is primary, left button is "right-click."  I can set that up just fine.  But when I don't have the mouse with me and I'm using the trackpad and its click zones, I want that to behave normally, with a left click being the primary. I feel like I had this set up pretty well with my last laptop, which was a Dell with Windows 7.  Now I have an X1 Carbon (3rd gen) with Windows 8.1, and I can't seem to make it work.  I've tried installing the software for the Microsoft wireless mouse that I use.  But I haven't found a combination of settings in Windows + the MS Mouse utility that give me what I want, so I end up having to just go into the setting and swap the buttons every time I plug/unplug my mouse. Am I just weird (other than being left-handed)?  I guess I can just use the mouse right-handed, but I like to swap so I'm not wearing out my wrist on one side.  Anybody else have this setup working for them?  Thanks.

Answer:How to reverse mouse buttons for a mouse but not for the trackpad

So to anyone who may have been curious about this, I think it just took some time to adapt to the new hardware, because I don't really have a problem anymore. I have my mouse set up for left-handed use at work. The trackpad is still right-handed, but because it doesn't actually require clicks like my old one did, I've gotten used to just single-finger tapping for left button clicks and two-finger tapping for right-button clicks. I just hadn't used a "magic" pad with all the fancy functionality before, and now I've got it doing what I want without having to change any settings.

Hello all Since 2 days my touchpad (inclusive the buttons) and my trackpad aren't workinig anymore. They are enabled and in the device manager under "mice and other pointers", there is no touchpad to be found. Do you have any idea what could have caused this problem? Thank you very much!

Hi 1) I just bought the Y580 online. The trackpad is terrible. - How do I make the right-side and bottom touch scrolling to work ? just like a normal laptop ?? - I changed the sensitivity settings and inspite of that the motion of the cursor is not uniform. When the right side of my finger is contact with it, the cursor stops moving a little and it is okay with the center of my finger.Do any of you experience this? If not, I need to get this looked into. I don't think the problem is with the software, it's just the material with which the trackpad is made, does not have a right coefficient of friction. - The two finger scrolling does not start. When I do the two finger scroll, the cursor change is seen almost 10 seconds later and even after that, it is almost impossible to scroll through my pages. Is that the case for everyone?  - The left/right click on the trackpad is noisy 2) Made the mistake a buying a lower resolution screen. How do I return this thing? When I talked to sales they are asking for a 15% "restocking" fee. That is terrible as well. I never should have gone with Lenovo.

Answer:Y580 Trackpad (or Touchpad) Help

- Not sure if there is a right side and bottom touch scrolling, will test it tonight- not uniform? Means if you place your finger on the right side of the touchpad then move to the center compared to the center move to the left, the distance is different?- 2 finger scrolling not tested, will check it tonight- I am not sure how to help you with the touchpad being noisy when clicking. Do note that this is a 1 piece touchpad compared to the conventional touchpad with 2 buttons below which is different. Use double tap on touchpad to do a left click but right click is unavoidable. - low res screen... can check with sales if you can top-up for upgrade?hope this helps.

I have a Lenovo x220tablet, alltough it took some time to adjust. But now i'm happy with it. But there's something wrong with the trackpad. I allready taught myself to use it without the pysical buttons in the bottom, and now make fully use of al that synaptics has to offer. But sometimes I have to use the buttons, because it comes handy when dragging something or whatever. At first, I did not like the buttons, but the where usable, but with time, they got worse. It is very hard to explain this for me in English, but, thats why I made a little movie which is linked below. Anyone suggestions what to do about it?Of course I've used google, and found many many topics about the trackpad, but that were mostly driver problems. http://youtu.be/a4XyxWopbt8 The click is so loud, it seems to get stuck somewhere and I have to push very hard. Almost like there's something stuck, like sand between it. But it's perfectly clean.Any advise (besides; do not use it) is welcome. And apologies for my English

Answer:X220t trackpad/touchpad

Hi, timpel_800

From the looks, sounds, and general functionality of the TrackPad, I would guess that there is a hardware issue of sorts. In the video, you say that the click function works, but only if you do it twice, correct? And the noise was far louder than a TrackPad is supposed to be, I think. With all this in mind, I would contact support and see if you can get this repaired. The number for support in the Netherlands is +31 (0)20 513 3939 and is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Best of luck,
Adam

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.
