Preferred Solution: HP PAVALLION G6 2228 TU LAPTOP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: HP PAVALLION G6 2228 TU LAPTOP

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. No, I'd afraid this computer HP Pavilion 2228tu is not officially compatible with Windows 10.HP hasn't released drivers for it and it was probably not tested for W10 compatibility. HP wouldn't officially support it with Windows 10.Windows 7 and 8.1 are officially supported on this PC model.Windows 7 and 8.1 are also good choices - they will be supported by Microsoft until year 2020 and 2023 respectively. You might try to run Windows 10 but if any specific or driver related issues occur, HP support may not be able to assist you > http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282 I'd recommend you keep either Win 8.1 or Win 7 on it. Hope this helps.

Want to create or send a screenshot? Get Greenshot! It?s a Windows screenshot utility that makes capturing and sending screenshots easy. It allows to capture either the entire screen, a region or a selected window via menu or keyboard shortcuts. Screenshots can be send to a file, printer, email or the Windows clipboard. The tool has functions for annotation, and obfuscation and highlighting of parts of the image. Some of the options that can be configured in the preferences include output path, image format (JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP) and filename pattern.

Change Log - Link.

* General: Greenshot will now run in 64 bit mode, if the OS supports it.
* General: Added a dynamic destination picker
* General: Added a preview when using the window capture from the context menu (Windows Vista and later)
* General: Added color reduction as an option and auto detection for image with less than 256 color. When using reduction this results in smaller files.
* General: Added direct printing to a selected printer
* General: Added some additional logic to the IE capture, which makes it possible to capture embedded IE web-sites from other applications.
* General: Changed multi-screen capture behaviour, assuming that capturing all screens is not a normal use-case. Now default behaviour is to capture the one with the mouse-cursor. Also the user can select which screen to capture from the context-menu.
* General: Changed the configuration to use a .ini with some advanced features. Fixed settings ca... Read more

Hi all,

New beta version is released: AVAST 2015 R4 Beta 2 (build number 2015.10.4.2228) and AVAST 2015 R4 Beta 3 (build number 2015.10.4.2229).

Today we unusually released 2 beta versions in order to test a new mechanism that will allow to avoid some compatibility issues in the future. So please test if you machines on XP are on version 2228 and Vista+ on 2229 and both reporting as latest version. Don't worry we will remove the limitation for Windows XP machines in the next beta version, and we also won't limit XP users in the future. This is just for testing purposes.

How to install:

1. If you have installed some beta version before you can update it to this latest version via Settings->Update->Program.

2. Or you can download and install from here:

This past week, I noticed that my laptop screen goes partially black when I scroll or move the cursor.   It's goes black in section or small blocks.   It will go away if I continue to scroll up or down, but then comes back.  I've removed battery and restarted which did not help.  I have also noticed when this happens that there will be overposting of text or pictures.  It is doing it as I am typing this text.   I have to scroll to be able to see what I am typing.   I have not recently installed any software.  I believe all my drivers are up to date.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello friends. I have a HP laptop (G62). its almost a year and half old. Everything was fine but I am having problem with power adapter for few hours.

When the laptop is off, the adapter works fine and it charges the battery. But when I turn it on, its fine for first 5-10 mints and then power adapter stops working and the laptop runs on battery. Obviously, the battery doesn't run forever. So after a while, I have to turn it off to charge the battery.

Anybody had this issue before or any suggestion?

Thanks a lot.

Answer:Laptop Power adapter doesn't work when laptop is on. But it charges the battery when laptop is off

Could be a bad power adapter. It may charge, but it doesn't have enough power to keep the system running, so it switches to your battery. I'd look at getting a new power adapter.

I just bought 2 brand new laptops, both running Windows 7 Home Premium, both connected via a wireless router. Laptop A is an HP, Dads (mine). Laptop B is a Compaq, sons. Was having trouble getting either one to see each other on the homegroup network. Verified I have ipv6 enabled. Read to turn off firewalls. That seemed to work for mine, laptop A, but my sons, laptop B, still will not see mine. But I see his.

I have ran the troubleshooter on sons, laptop B, and it doesn't detect any problems. Is there anything else I should try? I have left the Homegroup and rejoined on both laptops. Thats when mine (laptop A) started seeing sons (laptop B). But doesn't work when I leave and rejoin on sons.

Why does it have to be so frustrating? Any help or info would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you. DadsComputer (Laptop A)

Answer:Laptop A sees laptop B on the Homegroup, Laptop B will not find A

Seems to have fixed problem itself. Love when that happens.

I have had the laptop 7 months, and it is unlikely the supplier will be able to repair or replace it.
It came with MS starter programme installed, but I installed Office Professional (2 user only) and other software, and would prefer not to have to repurchase the software, particularly Office, again.
Any information or help would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Faulty laptop to be returned. Can I safely erase information, and transfer MS Office to new laptop?

If you want to transfer over, you might need to do this via a back-up disk or storage device.
The problem that you might have, is if the transfer will recognise the new laptop, as per licence agreement?.
Perhaps someone else might have a way around this, should the transfer not be possible?.

hi,

this started on saturday, i transferred movies/tv shows from my friends ext hard drive to my laptop. then i tried to transfer these back onto my ext hard drive, and although it was very slow, not everything has copied and the computer seems to crash (ie run extremely slow, that i cannot do anything).

thinking this may be a problem with my ext hard drive, i tried moving the same files to my usb stick but the same problem, computer slows down so badly, when i click on something it says not responding, then i have to wait 20 minutes to cross it all off so i can use the rest of the laptop.

im not sure if this is in the right area., please help.

thanks

What's the make and model # of your laptop, and what operating system version and Service Pack # are you using?

Were you able to transfer the same types of files before Saturday? If so, some event must have occurred to cause the problem: have a you tried a System Restore to a date before Saturday?

Have you tried to transfer files while in Safe Mode?

This laptop in question was purchased through QVC for my grandmother to replace her old, beaten-up Inspiron 1545. However, this laptop has been proving to be more sluggish than this predecesor. It's even more sluggish than my Precision M60 from 2004! The CPU and graphics have been causing the most issues on this laptop. I ran a Linux benchmark test on it, and where it failed miserably is the raytrace test, taking 244.17 seconds, whereas a PowerPC at 280 MHz would have taken 161.31 seconds. Inexcusable!
What can I do to resolve this performance issue? I went through Setup (which takes 2 seconds to draw) but could not find an option for anything that may contribute to performance other than what I have set now, so I'm at a loss. i3-6100U

I recently purchased an ASUS A555DG-EHFX to take over for my wife's Win7 ASUS K50IJ-BBZ5 (both are 64-bit).

Obviously getting Windows 10 up and running out of the box was a breeze. Configuring WLAN connectivity was also easy, even though I have a hidden SSID and access control on devices on the router. Even getting Office up and running was fine - just uninstalled from the old computer, downloaded an installer file from Microsoft, using the product key, and that was fine.

The one hiccup has been getting my files and configuration settings (such as browser history and passwords and cookies) from the old computer to the new.

I have read that one can run Windows Easy Transfer on a Win7 machine, which I did (to an external HD), then copy the migwiz and migration folders from the system32 subfolder of the Win7 machine, to somewhere on the new machine, and run the migwiz.exe program from the migwiz folder.

This appeared to "know what it was doing" - it identified the user profiles captured in the transfer data, and allowed me to select which ones to transfer.

But when the process completed, I can't find any of the files from the Win7 laptop, and I can't see any of the profiles and configurations - the files themselves, or evidence that the computer is accessing them.

Also, the old laptop had a C/D HD partition, as does this, and it was pretty much program files on C and data (.docx and .xlsx files, etc.) on the D partition.

After running migwiz, the new computer ... Read more

Answer:New laptop, trouble xferring files/settings from working Win7 laptop

Hi, browser history and cookies are things I wouldn't normally worry about.
1. Win 10 includes 2 browsers- Edge (its default) and IE. Any such transfer would be to IE only - assuming you were using IE in Win 7.
2. Cookies are only occasionally of significance- the odd financial sites in my experience use them to identify that yours is a known PC - an exceptionally bad way to do this.

Which browser are you actually using in Win 10?

Personally when moving OS's I've used Laplink software- which moves settings, configuration, and installed programs. However that is costly for one use, but saves hours if you have lots to reinstall.

Basically i have a Lenovo ThinkPad L530 laptop.

I've created the recovery DVDs, but unbeknown to me at the time - you're only allowed to create one set. What i'd like is to put this onto a USB stick.

Currently i have:

DVD #1 - Boot Media: (312mb)

The boot DVD containing "BOOT" folder, BootMgr file which is quite small & Winre.Wim at about 300mb.

DVD #2 - Data DVD #1: (4.03GB)

factory recovery folder, recovery folder & Autorun file

DVD #3 - Data DVD #2: (3.87GB)

factory recovery folder & recovery folder (NO autorun file)

DVD #4 - Data DVD #3: (3.04GB)

factory recovery folder, recovery folder, LenovoQDrive file, qdrive icon file.
My USB stick is 16GB capacity.

So basically i'd like to make the USB stick the recovery media. I can't do this from the laptop as Lenovo only let you create one ......... so how can i do this? Can i do this would be the first question & if so - how?

Answer:Creating Lenovo Laptop Recovery media from DVDs. Laptop wont let me do

Hi Nelly I also have an Lenovo its a different model than yous is but I can make as many copies of the recovery discs
as I want . You could make a systems image which would be a lot better than the recovery discs as with them you will always have the bloated software that comes with Lenovo models saying that you would need a lot more space than your 16gb usb drive .

Hello, So I have a user that just recently started to have an issue.  The laptop is fine (beyond the sound issues with the X230 which aren't solved (sound issue)), but if the user puts the laptop in the docking station with the laptop lid/screen closed/down, the external monitor only displays the desktop background but no login screen or desktop icons. This user has Windows 7 Pro. on it, I just installed the latest video driver from Lenovo's site and that didn't help.  I made sure the screens were set to clone and not extended displays. When the user flips up the laptop screen/lid, both screens are cloned and all is fine.  Supposedly this just started to happen a few days ago. But if the user has the laptop turned off, puts it in the docking station, closes the lid and turns the laptop on, the external monitor works just fine. I've changed clone to extended desktop just to see if that would help any but it didn't.  Set her back to cloned displays. Only other thing I can think of doing is to make sure the external monitor's resolution is set right but...don't understand what's going on.... Thoughts?

Answer:x230 (2320) laptop issue with external monitor when laptop lid/screen is up

Hi, cftech

My first recommendation would be to make sure that the BIOS and chipset drivers are the latest version. Since the external monitor works, just only certain circumstances, this is most likely a software issue of some sort. The BIOS can be found here and the chipset here.

Also, if possible, could you have the user try to connect to the external monitor without the docking station? I'm just curious if the docking station could have something to do with the issue,

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Since i bought a new laptop E7270, is it allowed to use my power adaptor my old Dell E6420 also for the new one?   If so i can use one adaptor at home and another in office and dont need to carry the power adaptor always.
Will this impact the battery performance of the new laptop?

If the connector fits (it may not - the older systems use a much larger barrel connector than many of the new ones), AND the power (wattage) is equal or greater, yes.

Hello all - first time poster on this forum.

I have a bust up fairly old Intel Celeron 600mhz laptop which could do with a new case/shell (not a bag, it needs the equivalent of a new desktop tower) but I don't know where to find one. I believe this is just a clone of similar laptops made around the same time and the model number is 6133. I was wondering if anybody knew somewhere I could purchase replacement shells/cases and if they stocked a case for this computer.

Everything on the laptop works fine except for a dodgy monitor cable (which would be fixed by moving everything into the new shell) so I don't intend to sell it for parts. I'm also quite experienced in fiddling with computers (my dad's a PC engineer so I've picked up quite a bit from him) and he is willing to help me get this laptop into tip top condition again.

I was also wondering if it would be possible to upgrade the motherboard and processor. At the moment it's a 600mhz intel celeron but I'd rather go with an AMD athlon of some sort as I believe them to be generally better. If anybody knows where I can purchase laptop motherboards to fit certain needs any help there would be gladly appreciated (am looking for a socket A motherboard). If the upgrade to Athlon is not possible I would like to know what the upgradability of my current motherboard is - I shall be looking inside the laptop within the next few days and can probably provide a number for it.

Howdy and welcome to the Forum.

Have you contacted the Manufacturer regarding replacement parts? That's where I would start.

BUT to be honest, although you do not give all the specs of the PC, I'd be willing to bet that you could replace the whole thing with a new laptop cheaper than replacing parts like case, MOBO, Processor, RAM, and HD !!!

So unless there is some "sentimental value", like the case broke stopping a bullet shot at you by terrorists...I'd shop for a new unit.

Answer:After upgrading my Hp Laptop to Windows 10 build 10547 my laptop restarts randomly, how can I fix this?

I've encountered that at least twice - it's the new BSOD. In my case, I was able to determine the problem - I've installed a version of a driver that is not compatible with my hardware, so the solution was to install a different driver version.
What was the last thing that you did before the error appeared? That will give you a hint as to what driver needs to be updated/downgraded.

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop with wifi support that is inbuilt or onboard. I already have a Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard at my home with ram 2 gb, 9800 gtx card and a quad core processor. Now, I connect this pc with a broadband connection at home running 1mbps speed. This motherboard also has a wifi onboard connection. What I am trying to do is setup this wifi connection so that my laptop can also connect to the internet wirelessly. For this I have installed the wifi driver of Asus (something called Asus WiFi-AP @n software) and configured it with giving it a proper connection name and a password. I have successfully done all the wifi network setup wizard on the pc and it is working well. Now the problem is that, my laptop is able to find this wifi connection but after sometime it gives an error saying to troubleshoot network connection and the wifi network disappears from the laptop and again i have to search for this wifi network and the cycle continues. Similarly, when I am trying to connect my Nokia e90 mobile phone with the pc via wifi, my phone is able to pickup the wifi connection and sometimes it is able to connect to the internet and I am also able to browse different websites but sometimes it gives me a gateway time out error. Hello and good evening to you all. I purchased a toshiba laptop from Argos this in December of last year. Here is the link:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/5086689.htm#pdpFullProductInformation
In June I sold it to a work colleague, and its been working perfectly for her. last week she said brought it back as a crack seems to have developed on the screen. Theres no point of me taking it to argos as they wont replace it. I've told my friend that i'll find out about getting screen replaced and she can re-imburse me for it. I've got the laptop with me now.....and ive got a special set of screwdrivers, so i'm just looking for good links where to purchase replacement screen from, even if its ebay, and online videos how to replace a laptop screen please. Any help would be much appreciated, ideally I would like to order it tonight. many thank

Hi All I am in need of assistance.
I have a new Dell 17r inspiron laptop that only has hdmi output.
I have projectors that connect with VGA port only.
I purchased hdmi to vga adapters and when I connect to the laptop the image will jump from the laptop to the projector and jump back to the laptop and it will continue to do this over and over.
There are no error messages. on either. These are working projectors. These are new hdmi/vga adapters.
I have tried to change resolution to lower settings and I have tried to lower refresh rates. The projector can support all of what resolutions the laptop has for settings thus the image does show for a second on the projector. These are smartboard/projector 600 series. I have also tried swapping our the adapters that didn't work either. I have also tried making the resolution settings shutting down laptop , connect the hdmi/vga adapter and turn the laptop back on and the issue is still the same. I can't find any posts/forums on this issue to date.

Thanks,
C0v3r

Answer:HDMI to VGA adapter connected to laptop to a project image jumps from laptop to projector and back and forth

C0v3r,
I am not aware of any issues with the 17r using external monitors.   I would suggest trying to narrow down the problem and go from there.   I certainly understand that you may not have all the devices present but if you do I would try to verify if this is problem with HDMI on the notebook, a problem with the adapters, or the monitors.
Basic steps, try running the notebook under power saving or high performance in the Nvidia control panel. The system is  an optimus and it would be interesting to find if the problem only occurs with the integrated Intel GPU (power saving) or the Nvidia GPU (high performance).  If you aren't familiar with configuring Optimus the following document may help.
Uninstall and reinstall video drivers.  Download the latest Intel and Nvidia video drivers for your model of notebook from support.dell.com. Download the drivers and save them to the desktop, please don't install them yet.  Uninstall the Intel and Nvidia driver and software from the system and reboot.  Now install the drivers, with the Intel driver first, followed by the Nvidia driver.
If possible connect the notebook to a HDMI monitor, something that doesn't require the use of any adapters and see if the problem continues.  Verify if the HDMI ports is working at all on the notebook.
If it looks like video is working fine on the notebook, and HDMI works well. Test the HDMI to VGA adapters.  If possible try them on ... Read more

Hello

I like to first thanks for the all the free support you guys are making.

Anyway, here is what I need.

I have 2 laptops, one I'm using have PATA hard disc (Toshiba SatellitE), and the other one 'm not really sure but it's Sony Vaio PCG-9P6L. I think it must be PATA because it's old, I even disassembled the hard disc and looks like PATA drive from google search I found...

They are both old laptops and about 7 years old.

Anyway I need some data frommy Soy Vaio but the laptop is broken. It' not completely broken I can actually turn it on using toothpick,, (long story), plus the monitor is physically broken.

Anyway I know it requires USB converter thing b/w SATA and PATA drive, but this is between PATA and PATA so.. I hope I can just plug it in to my current laptop without a problem.

Thanks

Answer:Moving laptop Hard Driver to another laptop, both PATA drive.

Something like this should work. You would leave the current HD in the working laptop. Attach the HD from the broken laptop to the IDE/PATA connector on the cable and the other end of the cable goes into the USB of the working laptop. Here is a detailed guide: http://help.artaro.eu/index.php/data-recovery/recover-files-from-hard-disk.html You should have access to the old HD and be able to copy files to the laptops internal HD.

Another option if you only want data retrieval would be to put the HD from the broken laptop into the working laptop (don't try to boot the laptop with this HD). Then download something like Puppy Linux and write the ISO file to a blank CD as an image file. Imgburn's "Write Image File to Disc" would do it. Then boot the laptop from the CD and it will give you access to the files on the HD which you could copy over to a USB flash drive. Here is a detailed guide: http://help.artaro.eu/index.php/data-recovery/recover-files-from-hard-disk.html

I've had my ideaPad U410 for about a year and a few months (august 2012) and it has been fine. Recently, whenever I plug in my charger in the bottom right notification tray, it doesn't show that my laptop is charging. I tried multiple times and it doesn't work. Is there something wrong? What should I do? Where can I get a replacement if it is indeed my charger that is broken?  Thank you

Answer:Is my laptop charger broken or is there something wrong with my laptop (ideapad U410)?

If you can run the laptop on the battery alone then it is more than likely still being charged by the charger when the machine is plugged in.  If you know someone with a voltmeter you could have them check to be sure that the charger is outputing the correct voltage.   If the battery is still being charged, what I would do is uninstall and reinstall the Lenovo Power Management software.  That should correct the icon probem you are experiencing.  The Power Management software can be downloaded from Lenovo's download page at the link below........ http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

My HP Omnibook xe4100 laptop has a broken DC Jack socket, i've decided to get another laptop as I want a faster one anyway.

Is there another way this machine can be powered? on the bottom of the unit theres metal contacts? 2 flat round ones and 2 metal clip types set in small square holes. Does anyone know what these are for?

I mostly want a way to power the machine to format the hard drive to clear my data.

Answer:HP Omnibook xe4100 Laptop, Broken DC Jack, Can the laptop be powered any other way?

Hello,

On the underside of the Omnibook xe4100 is a port replicator docking port.

The port replicator has an AC power port. I think it's possibe to power the laptop by docking it to the port replicator, and connecting the power adapter to the port. Though I'm not sure. Besides, this is costly and rather pointless since you can't really use the laptop anyway.

If you want to format the hard drive, then you could take it out and put it in another laptop and format it (if the laptop has the same hard drive interface, eg: PATA / SATA). Or you could purchase an external hard drive enclosure for 2.5" hard drives and format it.

If you're not going to use the hard drive again, then why not just remove it from the laptop and store it away, or destroy it?

I am fed up of turning it on twice everytime, and also concerned that it will affect health of my Laptop . How can I fix this Issue, please help.
I don't have a Recovery CD or Windows 8 CD. Windows 8 was pre-installed on my Laptop.

Model name: VPCEE23FD

So my Sony VAIO laptop is taking very long to boot up. Takes about 30 min - hour to boot to the start menu and that is just the beginning when I try
To log in to my profile it takes even longer. When it does go to my profile I cannot open anything. I can only use my computer when it is in safe mode. So went to Sony support website and chated with one of the employes, he connected to my computer (had control of my computer) he checked what the problem was and said this:
12:40 AM Sony Support- Tech 10: I see that issue is with the system Services, Corrupted Registry files and configuration settings of the Windows operating system in the computer that are causing the issue. * * * * * * * *

And said this would be the way to solve the problem
12:40 AM Sony Support- Tech 10: It is required to manually reconfigure the system services, repair the corrupted Registry files and the operating system functionality settings in the computer to resolve the issue. * *

He could fixed my computer manually but with a price, so I told him I would think about it. The next day I checked this website that said I can fix my problem myself here is the link *(Link removed)
Can you tell me if this would work to solve my problem.
Also can you tell me what things I can do to fix my computers problems?
Also is this problem serious enough that I have to go to a computer repair shop?

Answer:Sony Laptop Probelm ... Laptop taking long to boot up

Personally I would back up your data and reformat and do a complete system restore. If it is taking that long to boot up then you have a lot of corruptions. Would be quicker to wipe it and start over.

While trying to clone my laptop's hard drive (running Windows XP Pro) so as to install its mirror image on my desktop,  I must have done something that caused this message "LTDR missing."When I googled that message for help,  I found your forum,  and did as instructed,  or at least I think I did.  I know I inserted the W XP cd disk at the right moment,  pressed the "r" key as instructed but never got to hit the 1 key.Right now the computer is endlessly booting into Windows, then entering setup's first window but never stopping long enough so as to allow me to repeat the instructions before it goes crazily about repeating the aforesaid cyle.  I've checked the BIOS to make sure it is still got the hard drive as first in the boot order.  But, no luck.  Unless I press the "off" button,  it seems as though the laptop would go till doomsday.  I appreciate any adice and thank all in advance for the assistance.mbrand.

Hi, Lots of people hee to try and help you.Yes, some OEM CDs of Windows XP to NOT have the repair option. But first a few questions.Whay kind of laptop? What type of HDD?What kind of Desktop? How did you interface the laptop HDD?Quoteinstall its mirror image on my desktopDid you mean to say that you made a copy or backup of the laptop HDD using a suitable image program? Which program? (Some programs will alter system information on the source disk. Who knows why.) Did you mean to say that now your Desktop runs the Laptop XP system? Were you able to "see" the files on the Laptop HDD?Do you have anyway to force the laptop to boot from a CD? Such as BartsPE or any other diagnostic CD?

Hello, After I installed this bios update E5CN60WW ( http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ro/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/700-SERIES/700-15ISK/80RU/80RU00LQRI... ) the computer rebooted and refused to boot in UEFI mode( as it was before) and only boots on LEGACY mode. When I try to boot on UEFI mode it says that I should select a boot mode ( hdd, usb so on) and when I select the hdd nothing happens(windows is installed).  Windows was installed on verison 56WW of bios, with UEFI settings only, and after the update to 60WW i cannot boot UEFI anymore just on LEGACY. Why? How can I go back to UEFI booting ? Also before I updated the bios I have created a backup with universal bios backup toolkit and created a file LENOVO-E5CN56WW.rom (is it possible to backflash to this one?) Thank you,Bogdan

Hi,

I bought a new laptop - HP Compaq Presario, Intel Pentium Processor T4300 (2.1 GHz), 500 GB Hard Drive, 4 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce G 103M with 512 MB DDR2 dedicated graphics memory. After a week, i got the firs blue screen error after which it couldn't boot [i couldn't even get to BIOS).
I was out of the country, so my friend called the service staff who told him to try to run some tests, that time it worked, he got to BIOS, ran the tests, everything was fine and the laptop started up normally. Now, 2 weeks after, I'm getting blue screens continuously, and laptop won't boot. If it boots [and it usually happens when you hit it slightly, though, i don't know if it's a conincidence], windows 7 starts up normally and everything is working fine until the next blue screen shows up, which disables my laptop all over again.

Blue screen looks like this:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

Technical information:

STOP: 0x0000000C2 (0x00000099, 0xFE8F40DC, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Collecting data for crash dump
Initializing disk for crash dump
Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk:100
Physical memory dump complete
Is it a software crash? Can I run Win 7 repair if I manage to boot it and how to do that? Is it my hard disk problem?
What to do? -.-

Answer:Blue screen BAD_POOL_CALLER; laptop won't boot, a new laptop dying?

If you can get it to work by tapping on the machine, then it doesn't sound like a software problem. It could be a bad system board or memory.

I would call HP again and see about getting service on the hardware.

I clicked on the download link for WIndows and it downloaded and installed on my computer and then just went back to that same page. I thought it was suppose to run a scan (analyzer) on my computer? So where and what do I need to do for it to run a scan on my computer to check the channels being used and possible interference with my wifi? Or if there is something else that I need to do to fix my wifi connection issue? Thanks in advance!!!

Have been having this problem for a while now.

Every so often, the headhphone jack on my laptop just stops working after hours and hours of the laptop being on.

The built-in speakers of the laptop work fine. What happens is that while the computer is in use (after some random amount of time), any hardware plugged into the headphone jack of the laptop will not playback sound. This includes headphones, speakers and the like. The sound device manager in control panel shows sound being output, and if the headphones/speakers are disconnected, the audio plays fine on the built-in speakers on the laptop.

I haven't been able to figure out what exactly causes this problem. I have tried resinstalling the driver several times. I am 100% sure it isn't the headphones of the speakers that I use as I use these speakers and headphones on many other devices (phone, tablet etc.)

The only way that this issue gets fixed is if the computer is shut down and then rebooted (a restart doesn't work, the computer has to literally lose power for the problem to be fixed).

It seems very intermittent and I'm not sure how to approach this problem

Any ideas?

Answer:Headphone Jack on Laptop Stops Working Until Laptop is Powered Off

One idea would be a look the power plan in use. If you are running with the default Balanced power plan you may be seeing that nterfere by conserving battery power temporarily turning the audio off being a constant drain. Another thought could be a result of the onboard audio chip itself getting too warm where the hardware protection circuit will then come in and deactivate all sound. That is usually seen as far as the cpu temp as well as other major components. The audio being onboard would also be monitored by the bios not so much by Windows.

The other possible cause of losing sound would be the headphone jack or the board end having a cold solder point getting warm and expanding just enough to break the connection until cooled off. The complete shutdown of power would tend to suggest a temp or regulation issue where either the power plan or temp monitoring would have to be watched. And one more thing would be setting the laptop on a fan cooled stand or effective notebook cooling pad to draw heat away from the unit if you are not already using one. Laptops are known to get quite warm with extended use since everything is packed into a tight space with the typical serious lack of air flow unlike the usual desktop with front, rear, and side or top case fans in use if not water cooled.

You have some things to consider in the list of things there. Increased overall cooling, not planning to use the laptop for extended periods of time which can allow for something to overheat i... Read more

I bought a laptop docking station with video output (USB3) - it's a powered unit.

When I use the laptop, the fan is going mad - always at full speed.
Laptop is SLUGGISH

I unplug. Within 2-3 minutes, fan stops.
And laptop is much more responsive.

Is this a typical symptom?

The super odd thing, if I plug it in an hour or so later... then all seems to be OK.

Tabs: lots of them - I'm a tab hungry freak!
Actually, not that bad. At most 10 - 15 tabs open.

The laptop has 8GB RAM 2.5 Ghz. And normally fine with even double the number of tabs (in Crome mostly, but Firefox as well)

As a desperation... I thought it might be Chrome and I disabled all plugins. Worked a treat yesterday - but same problems today.

Help!
Thanks

FYI I was asking on here as to what power laptop to get (http://0.mk/ef6ee). After much consideration and having owned a Dell laptop before, I plopped for the aforementioned. I am writing this for the benefit of those who are also looking for a performance laptop
This is the exact model I got:
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00x7m13&c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&model_id=xps-l702x
In terms of first impressions I cant say I have any negatives!

VERY fast laptop (albeit some software I think is limited by the programming rather than the speed of the laptop
Intelligent processor and fans (processor speeds up as required - the fans generally silent unless the processor speeds up - very good)
Long battery life when using it for internet browsing or low intensity 2D work (e.g. microsoft word)
Amazing screen (not the 3D version). Simply stunning. Its NOT reflective (my previous dell was quite glossy by comparison) and the resolution is astounding. Very bright - I rarely have it at full brightness, probably 50-75%
sound quality is excellent. The base is not jaw dropping if you are expecting to nail down your furniture, but when you consider it?s a laptop, it is truly excellent - and very loud.
keyboard is very good. Like the tactile feel (almost a matt grip to it) and doesn?t smear
aluminium finish is excellent
connectivity very good again. it misses a VGA out for projectors. Only has a HDMI port to that end.
Large battery means the lapt... Read more

Ideal for those looking to buy the same type of laptop but at that sort of price you would expect it to be good although that is not always the case.
I usually buy from e-buyer or Amazon but got one from Aldi's last year and not really impressed with that one.
Daughter just asked me to look out for a cheapish laptop that she can get for her son for Xmas.[early shopping but I suppose better spreading it out over the year cost wise.]
I said that he would loose out on the years warranty so I think that may have put her off.

My laptop (envy m6 1162la) was not using the graphics card (AMD Radeon 7640M). I tried reinstalling the software AMD Catalyst but it wasn't detecting it either. I checked the windows device manager and the graphics card was greyed out (had to turn the option to show hidden devices because it wasn't showing). I tried updating drivers but it kept showing an error message (Code 45). Then I followed the steps in this guide and tried uninstalling the device, rebooting and reinstalling. Now it's not even showing in the manager, and I can't find the driver download page in the HP website. I also checked the AMD legacy software (catalyst) because it said it included the old drivers, but no luck so far. I'd appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks in advance.

Hello there,

We have a WRT300N Linksys router (updated firmware) with 2 very recent laptops (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9600 2.8GHz 3GB RAM 32-bit running Windows 7 - fully updated) connected to our wireless network.

Last week, everything was fine.

Two days ago, the internet connection for my laptop became intermittently VERY slow.
The internet service we have is for 30 mbps. I did a speed test but didn't have enough "juice" to finish the test. Even if I load google.com, the page would time out or say that the server is down. Downloading of email is also intermittently VERY slow. I am unable to play any online games as my connection is not fast enough...

The other laptop works perfectly fine.

I scanned for viruses using Avira, for malware using MalwareBytes and ran diagnostic tests for my wireless card. All seems fine. I called my ISP and they said that all is fine on their side.

We tried unplugging the router/modem and rebooting the computer - no change.
I downloaded Xirrus WiFi Monitor and have enclosed the screenshot as well as my IP config /all.

In my device manager I have the following under Network Adapters (all updated):
1) Intel 82567LF Gigabit Network Connection
2) Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN
3) Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

My friend says it could be because of Second Life and all the java plugins it requires I could have a problem.

What could this be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Hi, first time Lenovo buyer and have a Y510-59370001    (http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/) Was wondering how to get this gaming ready as my other laptops quickly deteriorated, almost certainly from a combination of poor quality and overheating. Please keep in mind I know very little about computer terms and how to...do certain tasks that might seem simple to everyone else. Although I am trying to learn. So without further ado... 1) Choosing laptop cooler: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-NotePal-Configurable-R9-NBC-8PCK-GP/dp/B003ZMF27G/ref=pd_ybh_1  ... -     this one looks very promising, but should I choose 17 inch with 2 fans, or 19 inch with 3 fans? anyone know warranty for this since I"m buying off amazon? it's actually more expensive from the retailer (checked the site) I only worry about warranty since apparently 5% of these are defective after couple weeks. Also..is this tilted enough to provide enough elevation? Or should I purchase this (http://www.cmstore-usa.com/notepal-u-stand-notebook-cooler/) instead. obviously I don't need to tilt it up that much, but you get the idea. 2) Is anyone else extremely frustrated with windows 8? I'm very much considering switching back to windows 7. Any good reasons not to? 3) Ultrabay, what is it, where is it, does it have extra space/slots? What should I put in there? What's in it already? Answer:Laptop cooler recommendations and other questions to get this laptop gaming ready

1/ Any cooler will be just fine. For the Y510p I would suggest the Notepal X2 or X3 and line up the fans just below the intake area on the bottom. 3/ In the ultrabay you can place a extra GPU GT750M. Or a extra hard drive or a cooling fan.You can replace your HDD with a SSD. You can use HDD cloning to clone the HDD to your SSD.4/ HWMonitor, HWinfo646/ Laptop bag: get a laptop bag that is able to carry a laptop of 15 inch or bigger. Just get a random one. Bon voyage !

My laptop wireless is on, but when I search for networks to connect to, no wireless options appear while the laptop next to me has 3 options and connected fine.
The only available connect is for a dial up that I have never seen before.
I am sure the laptop wireless is on as the blue signal light is on. The laptop has never had to be directly connected to a cord but I checked the wires and everything is fine, which is obvious as the laptop I am on is connected as normal.

Please help, I have already wasted over an hour of work time trying to figure out whats wrong!

{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Help!My R60 was working perfectly till yesterday. Today I switch it on and while the machine sounds as if its starting up, the screen remains dead. When connecetd to an a-c source, the ac indicator, battery indicator & power on indicator all glow green. Removing and reattching the battery, removing power source does not seem to fix the problem- meaning screen continous to be blank.I tried Fn plus F7, Fn etc but screen is dead. Upon inserting a cd, the machine reads it but again screen is dead from the beginning - no arrow, fluctuation etc.Any advice offered would be greatly appreciated.Thankss

Answer:Laptop screen blank & laptop ceases to start up

Have you tried shining a flash light on the screen for a minute to see if it displays even a dark picture? If so, then the flouresent bulb that lights up the screen, is dead and the screen needs to be replaced. If you see nothing, could still mean the screen is dead, or the connection from the screen's cord to the connecter on the motherboard, is loose or not making a good connection.

Hi again!

My brother is a commercial fisherman. Recently he decided he would like to live on his boat [significant savings].

He is asking me to find a good deal on a laptop.

He was at Best Buy today and the sale associate told him that a new laptop would last less than one year when used near salt water. He also informed him he should purchase a military style laptop that is made for marine environments.

I am here to ask if there is any validity to this information at all.

It does not sound like accurate info to me, but I know next to nothing about marine environment effects upon electronics.

Can someone educate us?

Here's our big question:

Does using a laptop aboard a ship parked in the harbor shorten the lifespan of the laptop?

Please help us make an educated decision.

Any sailors out here?

It's me,

Soar

Answer:Does using a laptop aboard a ship shorten the lifespan of the laptop?

Believe it or not, he does have some truth behind his words when he says a laptop will not last as long when exposed to salty air on a boat. He could either go for cheap machines and use them till they bust, or go for a Panasonic Toughbook or similar, though, they are very expensive. He could probably get a low end laptop and use it in a room that has an air filtration system that can help remove salts and other substances in the air, such as his little cabin thing in the boat, as long as he has a filtration system for the air that uses a good high quality HEPA filter in a room that doesn't stay opened up all the time, he should be perfectly fine over the years. Just remind him he may want to backup his work/documents on the machine once in awhile.

But it is true, machines near salt water = bad idea due to metal corrosion while exposed to the air.

I'm in a complete PANIC right now because this is my work computer and I don't know how to get my email now.

Here's the deal: My old laptop died. Deader than dead. Won't even boot. I'm on another laptop now and I need to know how I can set up another windows mail account and, most importantly, transfer all of my email, contacts, etc. from my old windows mail.

Please help! I can't lose my emails and contacts!!!!

I had my old computer backed up with carbonite.com and I **think** my mail should've been back up. I hope so. If not, am I screwed? I'm lost. Somebody help please.

Answer:HELP!!!! Laptop died. How do I transfer Windows Mail to my new laptop?

If you used Windows Mail, it is just a matter of setting that up on your work computer, which mail provider did you have set as default mail handler ?
For example, i use Windows Mail, but, i have comcast.net set as my default mail, so, i can go to Tools, accounts, and go through those tabs after the default mail is selected. So, without putting your whole email here, what comes after the @ in your email address, mine is @comcast.net.

Below is just some context to the situation, my real question's at the bottom:
Now recently for my line of on hand training, I've been needing a laptop to work out with some Developmental environments regarding video editing and some higher side rendering, (Nothing too intense like some 4k kind.) For this reason I've been using the search for this powerful portable machine under the minimal specs required for something like Doom 4, as a good starting off point, pretty simple. Come along searching around places like Amazon, EBay, and Wal-Mart Shopping Sites for an easy search, nothing wrong there. Or so I had thought.

Something I almost immediately noticed, and I'll probably focus most of my time on Amazon specifically for this, is the absolute bombardment of incredibly crappy "laptops" that are available for public consumption. You see, being as I barely work part time, nearly two days a week, (or whenever my manager wants to bother put me in,) I can say for certain that I can afford putting down a reasonable sum of money down for these, ($400 I would have put to the absolute worst case of laying down,) but for what is available is absolute garbage. As I've mentioned earlier, I can't afford much, so I will often look to seek the cheapest I can get, and boy are these fun. Hello,
My laptop is an Alienware 17 R3 and I recently encountered the following problem:
While playing the witcher 3 and plugging the charger(battery was at 30%), my laptop started to switch between plugged-in and unplugged charger mode, every second, intermittently.
I tried many times to remove the battery, reinstall drivers and change the charger's wire but didn't fix my problem.
Doing many tests I realized that problem persists only when battery is < 90%~, above this there isn't any problem...
I don't know what is the cause and how to fix it, maybe can be the OS(Windows 10 last update), I don't know..
BIOS is also on latest version for my laptop.
Can you help me please? It's a very critical problem and I need help asap!

Answer:Laptop problem, battery doesn't charge if laptop is on after 90%

Sounds like the adapter isn't making good contact with the DC jack.  Try a new adapter first - if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC in jack:

two week ago, my father bought this old acer laptop from someone who needed money. I just found out that the PC perfomer installed inside says it has 118 errors and its the at the ''Mauvais'' stage in french. Yes my laptop is in french.

The laptop is an Acer laptop who has these stickers on it saying "Intel Atom Inside" "Designated for Microsoft Windows XP" "energy star". On two of the corners of the laptop is imprinted Aspire one.

What Im looking for is for the laptop to be just as if I just bought it from the store, erasing most of the stuff without actually deleting some of the important stuff (like Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, Paint and similar programs).

I don't own any usb drives (except a really small one that is about two gigs) or any disc drive thing.

I dont have much experience in computers nor can have contact with a tech savvy at the moment so please explain to me deeply what to do.

Also, I did not browse the site. So I do not know if a topic like this was already made. Or if this is a the right place but yea.

help anyone?

Answer:my father bought an old Acer laptop, need help clearing the laptop

The older Aspire Ones are unlikely to have drivers to let them run on Win 7 and XP's end of life is 04/08/2014. I had two Acer Aspire Ones and both were garbage (as were the Acer desktop, keyboard and mouse I had). Personally, I don't feel it's worth messing with. Hopefully, your father can get his money back.

Hi,

I'm experienced on home computing, but have no experience with laptops or internet while traveling, so I have a bunch of questions.

I'm going to be doing a lot of RV and auto traveling all over the U.S. So I want to purchase a good laptop and be able to have the internet as much as possible.

So the first question is: Any recommendations as far as good laptops for a person who travels a lot. (I could probably spend up to $2,000 without the DW getting too wild!) What should I make sure I have in my laptop to be able to connect with the internet wherever I am? My cellphone contract is almost due, and I've read some articles about getting a digital cellphone and using that as an access to the internet. Good idea or not? Any company have better plans and service than others? What do I need to know so I don't get talked into buying unnecessary plans, equipment, etc?

We will be staying in hotels sometimes, the RV other times. What would I want to have in my laptop so I could access any free internet available. I've read some stuff about wifi hotspots and hotels having rj45 jacks, etc, but I guess I'm at the point now where I've read so much that I am just overwhelmed with information. Any ideas like what would you do in my situation?

I am also going to be using the laptop at home (Wisconsin/Arizona), so I'd like to know a simple(if possible) way to be able to somehow use my home internet service with both my home pc and my laptop. I h... Read more

Answer:Internet for Laptop while Traveling and Laptop Buying Advice

Many RV travelers have a directional antenna and a WAP (Wireless Access Point) to connect to WiFi. One of the major issues is weak signals, a good directional antenna can be aimed at the source and make a big difference. I'm led to believe that many RV parks supply WiFi connections. . Decent cellular data access is pretty expensive, $60-100/mo, probably a bit steep for your intended use.

There is no way you need to spend more than $1000-1200 for a nice laptop Any laptop will offer wired and wireless connectivity nowadays. I bought my HP DV9207US laptop through the bargain sites listed below, and I paid $800 for it. I added 2gigs of memory and an additional 120gig hard disk, and have a total of less than $1000 invested. It's certainly more than sufficient for your stated needs.

Hi everyone
Got a bit of a problem which I need help on please:

The screen has gone blank but works on an external monitor, this only started to happen after I let my son use my laptop, he and his friends have connected their iPads etc for films and music...but strangely, sometimes it comes on without any problem when I boot up as normal, so it is still working, this has happened on other occasions I am sure it can be rectified but I don't have a clue really. See below for what I have tried so far:

1. Checked monitor display - it shows the external monitor as the primary display only and I can't seem to get it to display the laptop monitor.

2. Checked the internet for possible solutions but could not properly understand everything to rectify the problem.

3. Could it possibly be anything to do with the amount of memory that has beenused up? (my son has used most of it for his music & films etc.)

Please help

Cheers folks

Hello,
I bought a laptop for a client, wiped and formatted the hard drive that had Windows 8.1 Home.
Installed Windows 10 Pro. And activated it with a purchased key.
When I started working on it, there were a lot of issues, and a defective touch pad.
So I am about to take the laptop back and trade it in for a new one from a different manufacture.
How do I transfer the key from that laptop to the new one?
Would Advanced Token Manager, Advanced Tokens Manager - Josh Cell Softwares
do the job even though it doesn't say Windows 10 supported?
I also found this, http://www.thewindowsclub.com/deacti...ws-product-key
Would that work on Windows 10? I see the screenshots, however they look like they are Windows 7.

Answer:Activated Win10 on defective laptop, how to transfer key to new laptop

First question - why did you purchase a product key when it would upgrade for free from Windows 8.1?

Second question - what type of product key did you purchase? Was it OEM or Retail. An OEM product key cannot be transferred to a new computer; once it is used on any computer, it stays with that computer.

So, if you purchased a retail product key - then on the old laptop from an elevated command prompt ("run as administrator" command prompt) you will type SLMGR /UPK

The UPK stands for uninstall product key. That removes your retail product key from that laptop.

Then, again, on the new laptop which will probably come with Windows 8 installed not sure why you wouldn't want to just do the free upgrade - but if you really want to enter your product key then just enter it when it asks for it during install. If you want to enter it later then from an elevated command prompt type SLMGR /IPK XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (with the product key you want installed, obviously). Then SLMGR /ATO will attempt online activation.

I used the media profile to download Windows 10 to a USB and everything worked fine but now there's another problem. My laptop was working after reinstalling Windows, but then I shut my laptop over and went away for ten minutes or so and I've came back to a black screen with no display at all. The white LED is on so my laptop is on. It has around 40% charge in it as of typing this. The screen is unresponsive. Please help again but thank you for helping me fix the first issue.

Answer:Re: I hard reset my laptop, error occurred and now my laptop...

Hi @kirsty_mcq17, Thanks for the update on your situation. I understand that you are now having issues with the display being blank and the system unresponsive. Have you tried doing a hard reset since the system stopped responding? If the system will not boot into Windows normally, let me know if you get any errors. You can also try using Safe mode. Once you are able to log back in, please make sure you download the latest HP drivers and Windows Updates. From what you described, it sounds like the system may have gone into sleep or hibernate mode. This document will take you through troubleshooting possible issues with those features. If you feel this post has answered your question, take a moment to click Accept as Solution. Thanks!

im not sure about laptop hard drives, but are they the same size and form factor as a desktop hard drive? if so then you can just plug it in to a desktop and plug in another blank hard drive, and use hard drive cloning software to transfer the enitre hard drive to the other one. i dont know of any such software but im sure you know how to use google

After doing a search for my problem, I still don't know where I should start in trying to find out what is causing the laptop to no longer recharge while in use. I normally use the laptop plugged in, so I may have contributed to this by not having the settings correct. While looking around, I did find the box that says the battery is OK, with a big check. If I am going to need to remove the battery, please include detailed instruction because I have never opened anything in the case. Also, I have seen reference to the BIOS and I will need detailed instruction if I have to check that. Thanks for your help!

Answer:Dell Laptop, battery won't recharge unless laptop shut down

You appear to have a 2013 - 2014 era Dell laptop.
What is the model name and model number and 7-character service tag number on it?

Hello there,

I have an one year-old ASUS K53S Laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium, 6GB Ram and 500HDD.

At the beginning, my battery lasted >3 hours in Balanced power mode (which is the one I alway use) and now due to regular use it last about 2 hours.

Everything normal until here. About 2 months ago, i started playing this game in full screen with the battery on and it last about 30-40 minutes until it reached the low battery warning (11% left). I would then plug the power on and resume the game, charging the battery as well.

After a few weeks, the warning stopped appearing in the desktop and the computer automatically hibernated (5% left) with the game still on. So i plugged the ac power on and resumed the game right away.

This kept happening from that moment on: every time i played the game it would reach 5% battery left and hibernate for itself, whereas it should appear the low battery warning at 11% left where I would plug in the ac power and charge the battery without going into hibernation.

On top of that, my sister kept stealing my ac charger for charging her Toshiba Satellite as she often forgets her own charger at her workplace!

Now, at the present day, when the battery reaches about 15-20% left, the laptop power off unexpectedly, as if I had pull the battery off of the laptop.

It must be from all those time it would reach 5% left, with the game still on, that "tired" the battery and now it won't even last further than 20% left...

I'm running home edition in both and trying to export contacts from old vista laptop to flash drive, then import to 'people' on win 10 laptop . Do I do it as csv -common separated values ...or vCards (folder of .vcf files)
thanks in anticipation of a solution.

Answer:Moving contacts data from vista laptop to win 10 laptop

Hi Pjollop, I'm sure someone has much clearer picture on this, but my impression is that the traditional address book seems to have gone, part of a trend in Windows design from Vista onwards particularly.
"Today, there seems to be no substantive reason to have Windows Contacts. You can use it with other applications, such as Outlook and Windows Mail, but those applications have their own address books. Moreover, if you use another type of e-mail, such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail, then you most surely use the address book with those."
What is the Windows Contacts Folder and Why Do You Need it?

Note that the contacts folder still exists, and clicking on a .contact entry in it produces a relevant Window.
Despite there being an entry there, the People app shows no contacts, indicating it knows nothing of the old format and does not use that folder.

"Open with" on a *.contact file shows it is associated with 'Windows Contacts', yet there seems to be neither a known program nor exe of such name.

It is also very hard to find any relevant info on this topic for Windows 10.

Fortunately I use Thunderbird... long deterred from relying on Windows email clients after MS chopping and changing - we'll have one, no we won't- we'll change the email client - we'll leave most of the client in but won't make it available- etc.

Hi all,

Question is as per the subject line but the reason I ask is that although each laptop is visible to the other in Devices and Printers when I try to send a file from the Vista laptop to the Win 7 laptop I get a message failure message. On the Win 7 machine when I click the the bluetooth icon in the systray the option to 'Allow a Device to connect' is greyed-out and there is no alert that a device is trying to connect. A far as I can tell the bluetooth settings on both laptops are OK, adding a device was OK with the passwork handshake completed without problem.

Is this a driver issue, settings issue, or summat else?

Ta.

Answer:Can I transfer files from Vista laptop to Win 7 laptop via bluetooth?

Couple of questions

Are you using "homegroup" for networking?

Is there no other way you can transfer like wifi (its faster)?

Hello. We have an old Dell laptop that was working perfectly well until my husband tripped over the power lead and bent the socket. We can no longer charge it up and apparently to fix it would cost as much as a working second-hand laptop. There is very little power left in the battery so I don't think it would stay alive long enough to scrub the hard drive. Is there any way we can do it by wiring it up to our main PC?We'd like to keep the Windows XP on it and just get rid of the files but it was previously used for work and there is some industry-sensitive data on it. Unlikely to be of use to many but it could cause trouble if it got out.Is there a way of getting rid of the data for good while keeping Windows XP?Oh, and can I have the moon on a stick as well, please ;)Thanks :)

Answer:Wiping laptop hard drive when laptop has no power!

Get a usb caddy for it,put the hard drive in the caddy and access your files via another computer.

I was wondering if it was possible to share a connection from my laptop that has a LAN card and a wireless card, so another laptop can get wireless acess from my computer when its connected to a LAN.

Are there any tutorials out there that will guide me through this?

I am using Windows XP.

Thanks

Answer:share wireless connection from laptop to allow other laptop access

With XP its pretty easy. Just set up "Internet connection sharing" By the sound of it, you should config your laptop to use the internet. With the wireless card, right-click it, go to properties, go to advanced, check the option for sharing the connection.

Configure the other card to ad-hoc to your laptop to connect to your laptop via wireless and you should have an internet connection.

Hello Windows 10 Forums,
I am still a newbie here and right now
I am suffering a difficulty in fixing highly disk usage (almost 100%) every time I restart my laptop!
I am using Windows 10.

Every reboot made my laptop seems slow to start-up.
However, shutdown the laptop and start it back was okay though. The disk usage will stay at 3%-11% during start-up.
Furthermore, when I am using Microsoft Visual Studio or any heavy intensive disk usage programs, my laptop will lag
I have checked the task manager and it shows 100% disk usage but my CPU was still remain at 14-18%.

Please help me!
Sorry for my bad grammar.
Thank you

Ok, I have a host computer that uses DSL. It is connected to the internet through a Router, I use a LAN connection. I have the host computer connected to the router, and 2 more computers directly connected to the router. All 3 computers have internet access and work.

Now, I want to get my Laptop to run on the internet like the others. So I disconnected one of the 2 computers and put the plug into the router.

How do I create a new connection on my Laptop? I tried messing around, but I dont want to damage anything. It seems different on the laptop, than the two desktop computers. I use a Linksys router by the way (BEFSR41).

Please help, thanks!.

Answer:Solved: Creating a new Laptop connection through router? (laptop)

"... put the plug into the router"

Does this mean you connected the laptop to the router via ethernet cable?

And it doesn't connect?

Do the LEDs on the router and laptop light, indicating both ports recognize a cable connection? What Windows version on the laptop? Can you go into Network Connections, click on the LAN connection, and tell us what shows up in the Details section in the left pane (I'm assuming Windows XP)?

I need some help. My manager's HD in her Dell Latitude laptop (which lacks a cdrom) has caught a boot sector virus. The only solution was to take its HD out and put it into an external shell that connects to my computer via USB.

I was able to install the first half of the Windows XP step, but when that was done and my computer restarted it did not complete the rest of the setup for the usb HD. Basically I am wanting to install windows using the Latitude's code then putting the HD back in hoping it we be as if it's a new install. Not sure if I have cleared up the entire situation, but hope so

If you follow and know what I am look for please help. If you would like to help and need more explaining I have all the time in the world. I appreciate any response, have a good one!

Answer:Installing Windows XP onto an external laptop HD (then implanting to the laptop)

Why not just put the drive in your machine and give it the basic install, swap it back, and then load the drivers.

Then, tell your Mgr to buy an external CD drive.
