Preferred Solution: HP computer setup (bios) not showing born date

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Born free and born wild
By: John De Sohn
Album: Far from home

Answer:Why isn't there this song ( Born free and born wild. By John De Sohn )?

Are you asking why this song isn't available for download in the Xbox Music store? Availability in the music store depends largely upon the rights owner of the song, typically the record label that released the album. If it's not there, it's likely that they have not yet negotiated the downloading rights to this album with Microsoft.
You can try using this handy link to report the missing song in Xbox Music: Tell Microsoft what music you?re missing on Xbox Music | Windows Central

I've got a new SSD drive to try and regurgitate an old Samsung laptop. The SSD drive shows up fine in windows setup and I can format it etc. but when I go to continue with the setup it comes up with the error ""Windows cannot be installed to this disk this computer's hardware may not support booting this disk ensure that disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu."
I've tried every option in BIOS including making sure AHCI is selected. I'm completely stumped. Laptop is a Samsung RV510 and it has the latest BIOS version.

Hi, I'm new here. I worked as technical support where I should maintain many T400. I have to deal with this issue for T400 type 2767 CTO The T400 should entering BIOS first and re set date format to actual date after battery emptyWithout re set date and time T400 can't be use. I have checked whether there's damaged in internal BIOS battery, and find no issue in there. In previous purchase where I got same T400 but different type ( TYPE 2767 RR4) we've never seen an issue like this. Any solution about my problem Many thanks. Regards, Doni

My company uses images to install OS and standard software. I am in charge of Inventory. I am trying to find a way to be able to tell what "date" a machine was imaged on. Is there a registry entry or a possible log file (other than event viewer) that would give me the date the machine was last imaged?

Any help would be appreciated!

So I just stuck a 1TB SATA HD in my computer, and it's not showing up when I open up My Computer. I've re-started about half a dozen times. I went into the BIOS, and the BIOS sees it. I have very little exerpeience with SATA so maybe I'm just doing something stupid. FWIW, my main HD is on SATA 1 and the new HD is on SATA 3. PLZ HALP!! Thanks

Answer:New SATA HD not showing up in computer; showing up in BIOS

what's happening is the drive hasn't been formatted so it's not showing up in windows because there isn't really anything there. You have to go to disk management and format the drive.

Just purchased two Dell U2715H 27" monitors the other day and a Dell XPS8900 tower.

intel Core i7
16GB Ram
NVidia GTX 960
I am having an issue where when I launch two steam games I run into a crash. The games i'm trying to run are "Pure Pool" and "Pool Nation FX". Both games sometimes run without any issues, but occasionally when the game has ended the screen which I was gaming on will turn completely black, not even backlit, just black.

Also when I launch the games sometimes the monitor in which the game is running will be completely black, not even backlit, but i'll still be able to hear the sound.

What is really odd is that when I close the program such as the pool game, the black screen will still remain. (please note I can still use task manager on my other monitor).

Also, sometimes when I finish playing either game I won't get any black screen, but when I come to restart my computer one of my monitors will be black, not even backlit as before.

I can run DOTA 2 without any issues at all. This PC and monitors are both new purchased this week.

One thing I also notice is that when running in Window mode it tends to perform better, but yesterday as I was playing Pure Pool, the screen just went randomly black even when in windowed mode.

I got a Refurbished Dell Latitude D600 Laptop from ebay yesterday on Tuesday, September 26th 2017, It had Intel Pentium M (Non-Centrino) and Windows XP Pro SP3, but when i boot it up, it resets to The Default BIOS Date, can someone help me?

Answer:Dell Latitude D600 Current Date Resets to The Default BIOS Date

The coin cell battery on the motherboard that keeps time while the system is powered off is probably dead.  Not too surprising given that the D600 is about 15 years old at this point.  If you open the system up, it should be easy to find, so just note the type of battery, e.g. CR2032, and then buy that type of battery at any grocery/convenience store.  Should only be about $2-3.

I'm having a problem,  I installed windows 7 alongside Ubuntu and could not get ubuntu to boot up right so I uninstalled it. I used a program to get rid of the GRUB and boot into windows 7 without it and this was successful. Now I had to delete the ubuntu from my drive, this was successful as well but when it came time to extend the windows partition I had trouble. The extend partition command was greyed out and I might have did something wrong because when I reboot now I get the Dell splash screen but can only get into setup.I tried getting into the boot menu by pressing the f12 button but can't.It use to get past the splash screen and ask to press f1 to boot system but won't anymore.

The System is: Dell Dimension C521
BIOS Version: 1.1.2 (11/08/06)
Processor Type: AMD Sempron Processor 3400+   - 1.80 GHz -

Answer:Need help in Computer BIOS Setup

I used a program to get rid of the GRUB

What program?

Did you restore the Windows MBR?

The extend partition command was greyed out

When you installed Ubuntu how did you do it?
Did you create a partition?
Did Linux create a partition?
How was the partition formated? Fat32, NTSF, Ext2,3,4?

I think the Ubuntu partition is ext4 and will need to be formated to NTFS, Also there should be a second smaller partition on the disk that Ubuntu will have created as a swap partition, The swap partition will be the same size as the OP's ram.

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with a 3TB Western Digital Red drive.

It does not show up in My Computer, Disk Management or Device Manager or diskpart >> list volume.
Also a no show in the Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool and CrystalDiskInfo.

It does show up in BIOS (See screenshot) and also in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology tool (See screenshot)
In both places it is showing as 0GB though.

What I've tried:
Unplugged all other drives except the C Drive and the 3TB WD, same result as above.
Unplugged all other drives except the 3TB WD and launched the installation CD for both Windows 7 and XP to see if either would recognise it. Neither did.

I'm out of ideas (I did see a few things online I didn't try, like uninstall the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers from the Device Manager, since I don't really know what that means I didn't)

hi. my computer is frozen at the black boot screen- just before you enter setup. I can't use the keyboard to enter (the)bios. There is a message "no msi smart key is present" then it stops. I have been trying for almost a week to fix this problem. My bios are: award modular bios v6.00PG obviously, on a separate machine from this one. :-) I have tried every bios key I could google, and about 10 different usb drive boots, including the HP one. Hi guys, I've an old(around 3 years old) HCL desktop computer. When I boot up my computer, first it shows HCL's splash screen. Then it directly goes to the "Boot from CD/DVD..." screen. On my other computer a screen appears before that which says at the top "Press DEL to enter setup". But that screen just gets skipped in this computer. But I need to set my flash drive's boot priority to the topmost. So I need to access BIOS setup for this.

Can anybody please help me with this?

Answer:How to get into BIOS setup when my computer boots?

Instructions for entering the BIOS (and other useful info) should be part of your onwer/user's manual. Have you checked it?

Anyone ever hear of a computer clearing POST but then freezing during startup before accessing any drives? It also freezes when I try to enter the BIOS setup. I have an image displaied during setup so I can't see where it freezes. I have never had a computer not enter setup before and I have been building them for over 20 years. I can't get into the BIOS and I can't boot from a floppy to try and see what the problem is. This system was working fine yesterday but this started when I did a restart last night. I have disconnected the SATA RAID and all of the IDE drives and it still freezes. Any ideas?

Answer:Computer not entering BIOS setup

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Forgive me if you`ve already tried all this.

Try clearing the cmos.

If it`s still a no go, then I`d suggest taking the heatsink off and after cleaning off the old thermal paste/pad, applying some new thermal paste and reattaching the heatsink.

Check the mobo for bulging or leaking capacitors. See HERE for more info.

Try a different psu.

Hey all,

This is a long post but it's because I've tried so much and am getting a bit fed up.... anybody who reads it and has a good suggestion, thanks in advance...

I have been having a major problem with my computer. The last time I was using it was a few days ago when it worked fine. I was driving some car subwoofers quite hard with my PSU which I have done for over a year without issue. I restarted the computer after this and then the issues started.

At the moment, I cannot get past the BIOS splash screen. If I bash DEL to enter the bios setup it says "Entering Setup..." and freezes.

Obvious first step is check the RAM which I thought was suspect (as I have had issues before and re-seating the RAM has seemed to solve the problem). In fact, all 4*1GB sticks are currently plugged into my brothers computer and they all work perfectly. I have booted off all of them individually in that computer and there is nothing wrong. Run memtest as well just to be sure. I have now taken his 2*1GB sticks which I know for certain work. At the moment I only have one of the sticks (1GB) plugged in.

All peripherels are unplugged, including hard-drives, USB, DVD drives etc etc. I switched the Nvidia GTX-260 for a basic 7200 graphics card, still the same problem.

When I initially put in the 7200 card card and put 1GB of RAM in the first slot, it did boot.... once. As soon as I added extra sticks I had the same problem. Then I removed the extra sticks so I just had the ... Read more

Afrer not using the computer for a week, my pc suddenly powers up by it's own each time I open the slot for the CPU on my extension meaning I don't have to press the power button on the CPU which is weird, and instead of hearing just one beep, my CPU makes 2 more beeps after the first one.

After that this weird BIOs would show up(as shown on the attachment) and when my computer finally starts up, it would suddenly flash duplicates of my home screen forcing me to restart the entire thing. Any solutions?

Answer:Startup question - computer showing me some kind of BIOs?

CMOS checksum error means the CMOS battery in your computer needs to be replaced.

It's a CR2032 and is about the size of a quarter. They usually coast around $2.

Power off the computer, disconnect the power cord then open the case and look for the battery.

This shows how to replace it on an Emachine. Yours may not be the same but should be similar:

Hello

I have an ASUS AMD x2 mobo/processor, the other day I hit the Shut Down key on my keyboard which I have never done but accidently pressed it. The computer shut down like normal.

After it fully shut down I tried to press the power button again to turn the system back on but nothing happend no fans or anything. I took the system to work and swapped the Power Supply. Fans and computer started!

Problem not solved though, computer would POST after it started up it would only get to the BIOS splash screen, where it tells you to press DEL to enter setup. As soon as this screen comes up the system restarts and will continue to do the same until you kill the power.

I just RMA'ed the board and got the new back today and the same thing is happening.

I swapped out all RAM, took drives off the board, tried multiple video cards, is it the processor that isn't more then 2 months old? Or did the company just think the board was fine and send me the same one back?

I have video skipping in movies in some games, so I need to turn fastwrites_ON, (which requires editing the BIOS, of course.)  Normally accessing the BIOS is a simple process- press the indicated key at startup, or find out what key to press online.    When I press the key indicated, it goes to an all black screen with my "cursor" in the upper left hand corner, and nothing else happens. Apparently no typing or other actions are registered, (the cursor blinks but does not move,) and I have to restart the computer manually. Jaegan:Assuming you are still able to boot the computer normally when you do not try to enter the BIOS setup, i have two guesses:A. There is a jumper on the motherboard that must be changed before you can enter the BIOS setup (most modern systems simply give you the option of entering a password to keep trouble makers from entering the BIOS setup, but some still have the jumper).B. The data on your BIOS chip is corrupted.  In this case, flashing the BIOS or even replacing the chip might be required to fix the problem.Doc

I'm replacting essentuially my computer, but not quite all of it. I'm ditching my motherboard, processor, memory (going DDR2), PSU, and case. I'm keeping my hard drives (one for my operating system and one with all of my files on it) and optical drives. I think I can figure out the motherboard connections and such, it's the software that I'm worried about. I have a couple main questions - I would senceirely appreciate your assistance.1: The operating system. I'm running a non-OEM copy of Win XP Pro (I had to get rid of my OEm Win XP Home, apparently Dell OSes don't run on custom non-OEM PCs) right now. When I get all of my stuff hooked up, what's going to happen? Won't Windows freak out and self-destruct in the panic of booting up to find a new.. everything, literally? Would there be a considerable advantage to formatting first (or would that lead to more problems)?2: Drivers - I'm used to the Dell drivers CD for just about everything. Namely, graphics, networking (I'm on a LAN), and sound. Will a driver CD that comes with the motherboard include jsut about anything I may need?I realize the situation may not be predictable in every way since hardware varies in so many ways, but I would appreciate any input you may have. If it helps, I'll link to the main hardware components to be included. The multiplier cannot be set, and is automatically set at 11x.

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section, I looked for something related to the problem and this was the closest I got.

My cousin has a Gateway computer running on Windows XP. He had a Supervisor Password which he set-up in BIOS. All was fine until one day he turned it on and it stopped booting before it reached the screen where he would enter his Supervisor Password. The screen to enter it never comes up. All it does is sit there at the Gateway screen doing nothing. He tries to get into BIOS Setup when he first turns it on to possibly remove the password which would at least get him to Windows, but the computer won't even allow him to do that. It's like it doesn't detect anything at all. He's called Gateway and spent over an hour on the phone with them and they've been unable to help him. Does anyone know what would cause this and if there is anything he can do to get into his computer to make any necessary changes to prevent it from happening again?

Answer:Computer stops booting before reaching BIOS Setup

If he set up the password in the BIOS, he may have to clear the CMOS. If he does that, he'll need to restore the BIOS configuration settings. If he can get into the BIOS setup, he should note the relevant settings before he clears the CMOS.

Usually, there's a jumper on the motherboard for that function. With any luck, it's marked, but it's usually a lot easier to find it if he's got the manual for that motherboard. On recent ASUS boards, it's marked "CLRTC". It has three pins, with a jumper connecting two of them.

To clear the CMOS, turn the system off and unplug it. Some motherboards require the CMOS battery to be removed. Move the jumper over, so that it's connecting the other pair of pins. That shorts out the CMOS. After 5 sec., put the jumper back where it was and replace the battery. Then re-start the system, go into the BIOS, and re-set the configuration settings that got cleared.

Gateway may do things differently, so the above may be no use to your friend. He should check his manual for the system. And it's possible that there is a hardware problem somewhere. If that's the case, the above won't have any effect.

Answer:Hitachi Hard disk showing 0 mb in bios & Not showing in windows explorer

QuoteIT show zero bytes in bios and not shown in windows explorer,I see it in Device manager, wit zero space. The Bios recognizing the drive is the lowest level of recognition. If not recognized at this level its usually a jumper setting, cable issue, or Bios needs to be flashed with a newer version. Is this hard drive an IDE (PATA) drive or a newer SATA drive for starters? If it is a IDE (PATA) drive it could be jumper set wrong, (Master(MA), Slave(SL), Cable Select(CS))If its a SATA drive I'd try a different SATA cable with it to rule that out.*I wouldnt jump into flashing your Bios with an update unless you find information supporting a known issue with the version you are running and hard drives. A bad flash can kill certain motherboards that dont have Bios protection that can revert back on wrong or failed flashes.

Well, I chose the boot as "legacy bios only" after receiving the x220. I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bits (which means the setting soft provided by Lenovo does not work) and then updated the BIOS to 1.15. After all these, the machine runs mostly fine but I noticed that I could not log into the BIOS setup any more. Pressing F1\F2\F12\thinkVamtage when the bootup screen shows up (press thinkVantage bottom....), and nothing happens. It does not beep as it did before and does not respond to the buttom press. That means I could not choose bootup device either - it will log into Windows from HDD no matter how you tried to boot from other devices. Any ideas on the problem? And I guess resetting the BIOS might solve the problem, but how? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can not log into x220 BIOS? How to reset BIOS setting without entering BIOS setup?

Try turning the system completely off, then power it on and press F1.I've seen strange cases where pressing F1 doesn't work on a warm boot.  It always works on a cold boot.

I figured out how to construct a formula that would add 7 days to a date from a previous cell. I am simply using =B2+7. My problem is that the results are showing as ###### instead of a date. When I mouse over the cell there is a "pop-up" type "comment box" with the correctly calculated date in it, so I know my formula is working. But I want the date to be in the cell. I can get the date in B2 to display properly if I change the date formatting to m/d/yy but otherwise it becomes ###### too...all the tutorials for date formulas make it look like the result should just automatically appear in the cell...HELP!

Answer:Date results showing up as #s

Did you try expanding the column width?Excel will display "negative dates" as ####, but if you are sure that the correct date is in the cell, it just might not be fitting in the cell.

Is it possible to have my tray clock showing date aswell? Like it was in xp?

Answer:tray clock showing date

Hi Nicolai,

Does your tray clock not pop up the date when you move your mouse cursor over it? Other than trying a 3rd party program, I don't know of another way to have the date show on the tray clock.

I have the long date format set in the taskbar (dddd dd MMMM yyyy) and it works every day except for Wednesday. On that day the only thing that is shown is the time.
Tried using short month ie Sep but nothing seems to work. No big deal but, just wondering if anyone else has come across this. Latest build Win 10 pro 15063.632.

Hi,

I noticed just yesterday that the short date is not showing in the taskbar, it was showing before in the same settings in the taskbar, I don't remember when did it disappear.

Now the issue is if I change the short date style it shows properly s seen in image 2

Any idea how to get my date format back.

Thank You

Answer:Date Not Showing as per Setting ddd dd MMM yyyy

The only way I know to do it is right click the taskbar and unlock it. Then put your cursor at the edge of the taskbar auntil it turns into a double headed arrow. Now drag the taskbar up to make it fatter. The long time should show then. Lock the taskbar.

Anyone else in the US showing the month/day/year on their date?
I just noticed this... it may be what everyone else is seeing, but I just noticed it I prefer day/month/year. How do I set it for that?

Answer:My date (under time) is now showing European?

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you want to show the date on the notification area as in Europe, 15/01/2011 instead of 1/15/2011:

(My Taskbar is vertically on the left so it might look funny to those used to normal Taskbar, but you get the idea.)

I think your best shot in that case would be to change the format to English (United Kingdom) instead of English (United States) as I have done, then manually change the other formats like currency symbol, digit grouping etc. as I have done to get German formats.

Hello All,

I have an issue when I open the Date and Time calendar in XP. In place of the month is the number 1. I click on the drop down and they're all 1's.
When I go into Windows Explorer to display the date, the time is shown, but no date.
When going into system restore, there's no month listed anymore, so I can't even do that.

TIA

Answer:Date and Time - Month showing 1

In the Control Panel, open up Regional and Language Options. See if the Date option is correct there (short and long dates). If there is something wrong, you can try Customize and the Date tab.

I am in the process of scanning in numerous old photographs and I thought it would be an idea to change the file creation date to the date on which (approx) the photograph was taken. I am using ninotech dateedit for this. It works fine. If I right-click a file and look at its properties it gives the new creation date. However, on adding the date created column to details view in explorer it seems that any date prior to about 1980 is simply shown as blank. Can this be altered or is it a feature of explorer?

I have tried a few replacements for windows explorer and so far they all appear to have the same behaviour which suggests it is linked into the OS.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:File creation date not showing in explorer

If I remember correctly, the earliest date that a PC can deal with is Jan 4th 1980 - as there was no need to have date capacity before this point

I don't think you'll be able to get around this, so it might be better to watermark the images with the date you need

HiA fairly small query which I hope is easily solved! When I transfer photos from my Nokia 6300 phone onto Windows and store them in the Pictures folder it never shows any information for Date Created/Taken.I checked the photos on the phone and they all have information regarding the date and time they were taken. I was wondering why, when transfering them from phone to pc, this information doesn't get copied too? My husband has a Nokia N95 and all the photos from his phone transfer with all date and time info intact. It's probably something to do with settings but I can't see where I would change anything.Any help appreciated as I am trying to organise loads of photos on my pc and lots of them have no date info which is proving tricky! I am having to go back to my mobile and look up each photo to check the date and include it in the name of the file (once i know the date windows won't let me add any date taken info). Thanksbear

Windows says all my drivers are up to date. But for example i was going to install the Intel WiDi and said that my wireless driver needs to be updated. What are the chances that its just different type of driver it needs or the worst part a lot of my drivers are not up to date?

Answer:Driver updates showing up to date but doesn't look like it

HP laptops some with an HP utility that allows you to check for newer drivers from HP -- don't know if yours does, but you should check for that.

The only way to tell is to see if (1) your laptop supplier has newer version drivers for your OS, and (2) the hardware suppliers for your components have newer drivers.

I would not trust any of these online services that claim to check your drivers -- mostly, they just want your money to install the same thing your already have, or worse, the wrong drivers.

Increase the height of the taskbar when it's at the bottom to at least double its minimum height and the date will be displayed under the time.

For the past week or so my computer has been starting up showing the time as 23.03 and the date as 31st December 2002. I have corrected time and date - connected to "Automatically synchronize with Internet Time Server" - had confirmation that time and date successfully synchronized - next time computer switched on time and date setting reverted to 23.04 on 31st December 2002.

Normally, when computer is switched on a 'DOS' type screen appears for a second or so - then it scrolls through various Microsoft Windows XP - loading your personal settings, etc. When it opens up with an incorrect time and date I get a different 'DOS' type screen - at the bottom of which are the options:

F1 to continue - DEL to enter SETUP

F1 continues to the normal start up routine - DEL opens up another 'DOS' screen - and on this screen pressing F10 offers the choice to exit and save - Y for yes N for no

Have tried saving this screen when correct time and date displayed - reverts to incorrect time and date next time machine switched on.

I would appreciate any help and guidance that I can get.

So recently I purchased a Galaxy GTX 460 768MB video card. I was previously using a BFG Tech GTX 275. When I first installed the GPU I was on an ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFI Edition motherboard. I am now on an ASRock P64 Extreme4 motherboard. I mention the old mobo because the problem has been the same regardless. So I link the issue to the GPU.

Anywho, the new Galaxy card on boot, displays it's own Bios information before the mobo Bios page shows up. It's actually the first thing I see on my monitor. It just simply displays Galaxy Bios version (etc. etc. etc). It doesn't last for more than 3-4 seconds, but I personally feel it's an unnecessary delay. Especially since I'm so adamant about computer efficiency and I try to get my boot up times as fast as possible. Just a personal hobby I enjoy! So I was curious if there is a way to disable this initial Bios screen? I did many google searches and couldn't find the problem to a a perfect description. Some people did mention that it has to do with a motherboard conflict, but that's why I mentioned bother motherboards. One was old, and the one I'm on now is brand new. I've never purchased a Galaxy card until now, so I'm curious if it's unique to their brand? I've never updated Bios on a video card before and I'm not sure if it'd cure the problem either. Anyone familiar with this situation? Thank you!

Hi Good Peoples,

A couple of days ago, I reinstalled XP Pro from scratch on my HP Pavilion Laptop. The email virus protection is managed by my ISP. I do have AVG but only run it about once a week to check things are OK. Also have Zone Alarm. I am connected via a one way satellite.

After downloading all the patches for Windows and MS Office, my satellite connection started having heaps of DNS errors (for days) so I connected via the phone line without the satellite. That was when I noticed that even when the computer was idle, there was a large continuous flow out data out of my machine and very little back.

One thing that may help identify the problem. When I was downloading the updates, I got a pop up screen. It was white background with black text. In essence it said my computer could be infected or contain spyware, I do not remember the exact wording, but it suggested I click on the button to take me to a site to check. I closed the box and did not visit the link. The box appeared twice more.

I ran Add Aware and Spybot and they are now clean.

I have run Hijackthis and the log reads as follows:-

Morning Guys, I was just looking around for a decent graphics card, my friend has offered me a nearly new HD5770 1GB Graphics card for just ?50, I currently have the VTX Radeon HD 5450, and it's RUBBISH. My FPS in every single game is terrible, later did I realise that it's not actually ATI, haha! It's a cheap firm called "VTX". Should I get the HD5770 1GB? And what are your views on it?Many thanks,PCGeekable.

Answer:A New Born Graphics Card

The Radeon HD5450 is not really a gamer's card. When it came out around the end of 2009 the reviews generally said that it is aimed at the HTPC (Home Theatre PC) market. That is, it is OK for playing HD video etc and is not really designed or meant for demanding gaming use. It is a low power card, some models using this chipset are passively cooled with just a heatsink, and no fan. At the time it was the cheapest of the 5000 range. I actually bought one to put in a Shuttle mini PC that I was building because (a) it was cheap (?29.95 in UK money) and (b) it was quiet (no fan). I kept getting freezes which turned out to be the HD5450 overheating and I took it out and just used the Shuttle's onboard video chipset (nVidia GeForce 8200) which is quite enough for my needs. The Radeon 5770 is a higher level card, still in the budget range, it came out around the same time, and was priced at around 160 US dollars, and was much more of a (budget) gamer's card. So you'd be going from a low-end card to a mid-range card. However you'll need to make sure your computer is up to the job. The power supply needs to be a good stable 500 Watt (minimum) type and unless your cpu speed and memory size are suitable, you may not see very much improvement. You can buy new 5770s from around ?70 upwards. Plenty of cards with ATI chipsets are "powered by ATI" rather than "made by ATI" - my own one was actually a Sapphire, and this does not always mean they ar... Read more

Ok everyone..I need serious help. I have the worm, but I fear that is the least of my problems.
I have downloaded about every anti-virus scan/remover known to man. Every time I run a virus scan, it disappears. It will run for about 30 seconds and then the whole window will "poof" materialize into thin air! I don't understand what's going on!! It's done this for Norton, McAaffe and Symnatec, please help me!!

I'm in so much **** right now I'm dead. Let me just say windows sp2 is the biggest dumbest peice of **** ever!!!

I was @ work and my boss was complaining about the printer not working and somehow their drivers got deleted. However what do I see in the taskbar? Windows updates are ready to install. Hmm...maybe that will help but gotta do those updates why not? So everything is going smooth then it gets an error.

Undoing changes blah blah blah. Coo let it do that. Everything seems fine. I reboot the computer. Now when I try to start it, it has the windows xp logo now not the home now but the sp2 plain looking one. But it constantly reboots after that and just loops on and on.

I have tried safemode. I can't get it working. Is there a boot cd I can download from somewhere anything please help? They have all their bills Quicken files and etc. On the computer I gotta get it working or I am super Effed and I need to get it working asap please help thank you.

Answer:Very Screwed Help!!! Please!!! I'll Give U My 1st Born!

Okay to recover the files under a version of a bootable linux OS this is what you do

First, you need a FAT or FAT32 drive to save stuff on, and you could probolly burn it to a CD or DVD as well.

It's called knoppix Linux, you put the CD in, press enter when it says boot: and come back 5 minutes and you have a complete OS.

However assuming you have NTSF drives, you can only read, not write to the NTSF windows drive.

Just got a Nokia Lumia Icon for work today and I synced it with my Microsoft Account. I also have a Lumia 920 with 8.1 developers preview for my personal device. After about a hour, my Microsoft, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts on my Icon were showing a "not up-to-date" message in the settings menu. Any advice to fix this or should I just hard reset the phone and see what happens? Already tried a soft rest with no luck :(
Thanks!

Answer:Microsoft, Twitter and LinkedIn account showing not up-to-date message

Recently I've been getting a number of e-mails every day with only the envelope icon showing in the From column and the date/time showing in the Recieved column. The Subject line is completely blank.

I've had this happen before, but very infrequently. Now, all of a sudden, I'm getting at least several of them every day. I'm wondering if this could be symptomatic of some underlying problem with my system, or if this just might be a common, harmless occurrence. Whatever the reason, it's certainly happening much more frequently now than it did before.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to explain to me what is going on.

Answer:Strange e-mails (only envelope icon and date/time showing)

I'm having the same problem. Just made a thread of my own a little while ago (didn't notice yours). I've been told to just delete the e-mails. No solution has been found yet.

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

I am guessing that something quite wrong was done in 2.20 (and it persists into 2.21). There was no such errant behavior with 2.19, as I've confirmed by reinstalling 2.19.  Works perfectly and boots promptly and the BIOS Setup utility works lickity-split with 2.19, just like it always has.  But with the install of 2.20 the behavior changed drastically.

Looking at the README for BIOS 2.20 this definitely seems like the culprit:

[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue where fan might rotated with max speed due to not reading CPU   temperature correctly.- Fixed an issue where system might not boot to OS when attached an external monitor   and its USB3 devices.- Fixed an issue where network boot might happened at reboot after resume from suspend   by Wake On LAN.

At first I thought I had blown the BIOS update, since my screen was simply black for what seemed like 1-2 minutes after displaying the Lenovo logo and "press ENTER to interrupt" message.  I pressed ENTER repeatedly but nothing happened, for a long time.  Eventually, the hard drive activity LED on the P70 started flashing, and seemingly almost 2 minutes later, the machine came to life and boot process continued normally.

Then, once I entered the BIOS, I used the right-arrow key to navigate through the tabs.  No problem until I got to the Security tab and then pressed right-arrow one more time to navigate into the Boot tab... and it hung!  Didn't go ri... Read more

When I turn on my computer yestereday it loaded the post screen briefly than went directly into BIOS setup. When I exit the bios setup the screen goes black flickers than goes back into BIOS setup. BIOS recognized hard drives and cd roms, and boot sequence was correct. I decided to deal with it tomorrow or today.. When i turned it on today it booted to my 2nd harddrive (which also has an OS installed) went into bios booted from my main harddrive and the computer worked fine for about 20 min. I was browsing the web and microsoft outlook kept trying to open eventually everytime i closed it pop right back up couldnt access taskmanager keyboard couldnt type however i could manuever with the arrow keys. Powered down and when i rebooted had the same problem as before.. wont get past bios setup. I have tried reseting the CMOS jumpers but that didnt have any affect. tried booting with soley; each hard drive (separately), cd rom, and with each stick of memory. All running into the same issue. Any ideas?

I had a strange set of circumstances today. I was trying to update my memory from 2 to 4g. My system would not boot with the new memory and the bios gave 3 beeps. After removing the new memory, the system would boot to XP but I had no video. I powered down and powered back up. I now had video but the system would hang. In Safe Mode, it would hang after the following entry system32/config/system. Note I never observed any windows error messages, just the hang.

I used the Recovery Console from an XP CD and did a chkdsk /r and chdsk /f
I also ran fixboot

None of these solved the problem.

I then ran fixmbr
Recovery Console displayed some kind of caution message that I had a "invalid" or something MBR and that it might prevent me from access partitions or something.

Well, I ran fixmbr anyway since i was out if ideas.

Now when I try to boot, it is freezing during the post process. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, it says "entering setup" but it never does. It seems to be hanging right after the drive detect process.
Note I have one standard IDE drive © and 2 SATA drives. Windows XP is installed on one of the SATA drives.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need any more info.

Answer:BIOS Hang, unable to enter BIOS Setup after running FIXMBR

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

The button battery on my mother board died giving mme "CMOS date and time not set" message.  I have changed the battery and using F10 on boot-up have successfully updated the correct time, month and year.  However it will not let me update the correct day (17).  The highest number it will accept is 12.

I flashed my BIOS, so it might be some different.  But here's the specs...Intel D845GRG, Version AAA81583-304, Serial ABRG32219313...BIOS RG84510A . 15A . 0057. P19I changed a setting trying to maybe enable ACPI, but didn't work either.  It was under the Power Catagory, seems like it was a POST setting and maybe video.  Could be I just know that from video takes 4-5 minutes at POST.  But I'm pretty sure it was a POST setting.  Can't boot from a boot disk for some reason either, to get to DOS.  Anyway the BIOS set Up screen never shows and I've tried pressing F2 at all different times still nothing except Windows at the User Account screen.  Skips XP's start Up screen also.  I tried Flashing Bios again thinking it might set it to default but flashed successful and it's just like it was.I think it's sleeping but can't wake it.  Searched near 15+ hours stil aint found the solution. Thanks,

Answer:BIOS ACPI Setting (something POST) locked me out of BIOS SetUp.

What happens if you try F8 - do you get the option to boot from Safe Mode? (just to make sure it's recognising key input during boot up)Have you tried any other key than F2 (Del, F10 & F12 are common keys). Is this a laptop or desktop? Removing the CMOS battery can clear any unwanted settings and default it back to factory settings.

I've been having an unstoppable, seemingly popular error with the shell unexpectedly stopping and windows explorer shutting down, with sometimes an error in the event viewer showing ntdll.dll being the culprit. I've done endless searches on the net, endless virus/spyware/everything scans, with no result. I even found a similar case on this site with Photoshop being the problem, except I don't have Adobe Photoshop installed.

I've got Nvidia drivers, and I think one solution is to update them. How do I do this successfully (I know I go to www.nvidia.com and download, but do I just install and thats that, or do i have to uninstall my old ones) and another way is that there's bad memory / power supply. How do I test to see if this is the problem? Also, how do I ensure my computer isn't overclocking, as this could be a cause too. Plllleeeeease anyone help.

My computer refuses to connect to the internet and I have no idea what to do . I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Hell, I resorted to calling tech support and after trying everything they could think of I still can't connect to the net. I'll describe what's going on and if anyone can figure this out I will henceforth refer to them as my lord and savior. I've been working at this for hours and hours and I still can't connect.

Ok so here's the deal. I was trying to forward some ports through my WRT54G. I did that and went back to BT and I was still getting crappy download speeds and a yellow status light. I tried many different ports and still the same story. I ran a NATcheck and it said I failed on those ports even though I had opened them in the router. So then I got to thinking that perhaps there was some kind of interference between the modem/router my ISP gave me and my Linksys router. I thought it was a longshot but I figured I might as well be certain. So I unhook the Linksys and plug the modem/router directly into the computer. I immediately attempt to load up the router's configuration utility by typing in 10.0.0.2. After typing in the correct username and pass, the page won't load, much ot my chagrin. I hook everything back up to my Linksys to see if everything is working there, and it is. So I decide to try going to directly into the modem/router again after confirming everything is working fine with th... Read more

Answer:I am at a complete loss :S. (If you can fix this I'll give you my first born son)

Perhaps your just confused with terminology. Why are you trying to logon ot the modems utility at all? "After resetting the modem I try to load up 10.0.0.2 again and nothing happens, but this time it doesn't even ask for my username/pass, it just tries to load but can't. So I try to load a webpage" I assume your modem also doubles as a router? If so then why are you changing anything on it? Port forwarding? I would do a hard reset of your modem or modem/router if that is what it is. if it is a router then you don't need another router in the mix. If you have a linksys router then all you would use that as is a switch., not a router. In other words, don't use the WAN port on the Linksys, only the LAN ports. Honestly your description is a bit too confusing to offer a whole lot of advice. Elaborate and I am sure there are plenty of people here that can help.

I attempted to update the BIOS on my Inspiron 5565 (AMD-A10 9600P) from .1.0.5 to v1.0.8 using the 'BIOS flash update' with the BIOS update file downloaded (and md5 hash verified on a usb key) from the drivers download page:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C52F8
I followed the instructions on this support page:
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN171755/updating-the-dell-bios-in-linux-and-ubuntu-environments?lang=EN#Flashing%20a%20Dell%20BIOS%20in%20a%20Linux%20Only%20Environment
to copy the BIOS update file to the USB but when I find and select the file in the 'BIOS flash update' function it reads the USB key (usb key read/write light flashing) but prompts with 'Invalid file!'. I have not renamed the file at all and I also tried to update to the other downloadable BIOS update file, v1.0.6 but get the same error message 'Invalid File!'
Reason for trying to update via the BIOS update feature is that I have a blank hard drive and I'm having trouble loading Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (but seem to have no issue with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) so trying to update the BIOS as first troubleshooting elimination step.
Any tips or suggestions most appreciated.

(Windows XP with 2Gb of Dram. Acronis default settings).I regularly perform a full disc image back up to an external USB hard drive which takes around 15 minutes and results in a file of around 23Gb.Yesterday, for the first time, I had cause to restore my last back up on to my C drive. It has all worked perfectly but the computer was churning away for 13 hours. Is this usual? Why the huge discrepancy in operating times?Jeff W

Answer:Acronis 11 - a question born of idle curiosity

Do you mean you save a full disk image rather than a backup file (compressed .tbi)?I can restore Acronis backups in about 30 min. to 1 hour.

So... Sitting in my office right now with very little motivation to work Taking a 30 minute break and I'm thinking to myself, why do we not have something better than the registry. Here's what I was thinking, why doesn't windows scan all root folders in "c:/program files" looking for a specific registry file that it loads.

This would allow you to quite literally drag-and-drop programs into program files and they'd be installed automatically & quickly. Dependencies could be indicated in the registry file of the root folder of each individual program as well, and if the dependencies were not installed they could be installed/downloaded.

Is it just me or does this not sound like a far superior system? You could literally bring your PC back to a "fresh install status" by just removing every folder in program files.

I highly doubt the bootup scan process would add much time to bootup either, as it would just scan the root folder of each folder in c:\program files and look for a specific file (similar to autorun.inf on CD/DVD's). I bet 500 folders could be scanned practically instantly, and I doubt many users have over 500 programs installed. But even if they did, the additional bootup time would probably be negligible.

This would also eliminate programs nuking operating systems.. Say you installed something which prevented the OS from starting, just bootup on a USB thumb drive or something and delete the offending folder. Probl... Read more

Answer:Idea born of boredom... Successor to the registry?

I wouldn't even do the start up scan. When an application starts up, it would look in it's current directory for the registry settings ( an "INI" file, if you will ), then check in other directories defined by an environmental variable.

The real bitch with installs isn't the registry though. It's the dlls which the install process setup.
