I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have recently bought a router, the Fritz.Box Home Server 1&1 VDSL. I have set it up via wifi and can connect to the internet without a problem.
However, I would like to connect my PC to the router via LAN.
When I put the LAN cable into my PC and the router, both my PC and my router react and tell me there is a connection but they do not recognize each other. The router says there is something in LAN1 and the PC says there is a LAN cable without a connection. I cannot access the router via LAN, only via wifi.
My PC uses the Killer Network 2200e driver, I tried removing it and then manually adding it again, it did not work. My IPv4 settings seem fine, too, I have no idea what to do now.

Answer:Ethernet won't connect to router, wifi works fine

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi, I am currently using the University campus wifi which works fine, but when I try to connect to it via ethernet, it always comes up with "no internet access" despite the wifi working fine. If I go onto network and sharing centre, the ethernet is sending bytes but only receiving very few every so often. I am using windows ten, please feel free to ask for more information, thanks for helping

So here is my story. A couple days ago I awoke to having no internet access over any devices connected through Ethernet or Wifi. My first thought was it was just a fluke and to power cycle my router and modem. After doing so I still got nothing. Called up my ISP thinking that the internet might be down due to a winter storm we had that night. They said that it wasn't. They sent signals to my modem and everything appeared to be working properly.

My equipment then:

Arris SB6141
Asus RT-AC3200

So I decided to make a run to Best Buy (not my first choice but convenient) to pick up a new cable modem. Purchased a Arris SB6190. Got it home, called up ISP (Spectrum) and had them provision it. Everything went smooth. Well now I was getting internet but only over WiFi. So now I'm thinking that my router bit the dust. Took another trip to Best Buy and purchased a Linksys EA9500 router. Got home, hooked it all up, same exact thing. Wifi works but everything connected through Ethernet has no connection.

You can download them from here or install them from the d drive.http://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS033356Also if it does't fixes the issue, could you open the device manager and check if there is any unknow device or a device with a yellow triangle on the icon of any of the network device? i mean is there a ethernet driver installed. Also, check the ethernet cable, it might be at fault too. Try with another cable too.Regards

Hi

I have a ZyXEL 600 wireless router - it has worked without issues for years.

However yesterday evening my wireless router suddenly stopped broadcasting a signal.

2 different PC's and a wifi dongle attached to our TV were suddenly all unable to find my network.

The WLAN light on the router was still lit up. I connected my Acer Aspire 5742Z laptop to the router via an ethernet cable and it worked fine. I connected to the router and it said there were no errors.

I phoned ZyXEL support this morning and they dialled in, confirmed the router was reporting it was working. They installed inSSIDer on my PC and verified no signal was being picked up - but other local wireless networks were being picked up.

They suggested buying another modem as it was very old and could have just reached the end of its life.

So I bought a brand new Sitecom 300N x2 modem this morning, connected it up and have the exact same problem. All the right lights are on the modem (solid WLAN, DSL and Internet lights), I can connect via an ethernet cable but none of my devices can find a the wireless browser (but can find other networks and connect to them).

I've spent hours on the phone today to various tech people and gone through channel switching, changing encryption etc but nothing has worked. The router is sat in the same place it has been for the last 3 years and the laptop is inches from it but still no joy.

As far as I can see I've ruled out:

I have a Win 7 system. Everything was working, until a few days ago, and then the Ethernet connection stopped. The activity LEDs work, but the Ethernet will not connect. The Wifi works fine through the same router as the Ethernet is plugged into.

Here is what I did so far.Rebooted PC (full power cycle)
Rebooted router
MSCONFIG to disable all unknown services and apps
Replaced Ethernet cable
Tried a different port
Confirmed Ethernet driver is latest version
Deleted Ethernet driver anyway and reinstalled
Reset IP Stack
Set TCP/IPv4 to static IP and defined the DNS server
Confirmed the adapter's advanced settings were correct
Connected to a USB Ethernet adapter that I know works (and has worked before on this PC)

Nothing I did in the above list worked - Ethernet does not connect. The activity LEDs are working. The Network Connections shows a plugged-in Ethernet as an Unidentified Network.

Here is the IPCONFIG/ALL

My PC with windows 7 is the only computer with issues in the house. Ethernet works perfectly but wifi doesn't even when I don't have the ethernet hooked up. The wifi says it is connected but browsers, steam, and Itunes don't work. I have Bitdefender A/V and already tried uninstalling it, no change. I also uninstalled steam and Itunes with still no change. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the wireless adapter. I tried looking and I don't recall downloading or installing anything around the time the problem started. Before I try replacing the adapter itself, I was hoping for help here since I saw a very similar problem in another thread.

I have dual monitors......my primary display monitor is a Chimei CMV223D
My secondary display monitor is an Acer AL1916W.

My graphics card is an HD ATI Radeon 5800.

PROBLEM:

My primary display monitor which usually has a display resolution of 1680x1050 is currently stuck on 640x480 and in the property settings it won't let me change the resolution. The cable running from the Graphics card is an HDMI cable with a HDMI/DVI converter. I have also tried using the DVI port of the video card to the DVI port of the PC which comes up with same problem. Using a DVI/VGA converter and a VGA cable the VGA port on the monitor works fine!!! SOOOO long story short there is definitely something going on with the monitors DVI port.........

This randomly occurred overnight and is driving me insane to know what I need to fix. I have used different cables and to no such luck. My secondary monitor is just humming away just fine! But I really need my primary display.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers for the graphics card which is the Catalyst control centre suite and all monitor drivers appear to be up to date.

WHY oh why is my monitor locked at this resolution!!??? How to fix please help!!!

Answer:DVI port on monitor is stuck res of 640x480 VGA port works fine

Hi, this my first time posting and I really would refrain from bothering people if I could, but I've been having this issue with my wireless for the last month so I thought perhaps someone could help.

The OS is a Windows XP home.

I go into IPCONFIG/ALL and it tells me that my wireless is disconnected

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I've tried going into the router (it's a NETGEAR MR814) IP, and I've added it to the list of devices that can connect to it, but it's not working. It just... won't work. It's not that there's a security lock on my router because I've disabled it and it still wouldn't work.

So now I'm completely befuddled, and disheartened, and on the verge of just taking apart my machine were it not for the ethernet connection. Can someone please help?

Answer:Ethernet works fine, Not Wireless

First try going into network property and see if you can see it.
If you see something like "Local Area connection 2" with wireless network card, right click on the icon and view available network/connection.
If you see your wireless router setting, highlight and click "Connect".

Hi all.
First of all, I want to thank you guys in advance for putting your time and effort to solve my issue. any answer would be grateful to me.

My internet provider is At&t and as I mentioned in the title, wireless internet works perfectly fine, but Ethernet connection doesn't work on my desktop. Currently I am using wireless adapter on my PC, and it works just fine. I tried disabling the wireless connection, resetting the modem, re installing the Ethernet driver and anything I can think of.

The odd thing is that my brother used Ethernet connection just fine with his desktop about three weeks ago, with same router and same cable. So I am assuming that my computer is the one with the problem but I can't figure it out why.

I'm going to try out the different cable tomorrow, but I highly doubt it will fix my problem.

Help me guys. If you need any other information, ask away. I will give it to you as much as I can

Attachment file is my network and sharing center status unidentified network is my ethernet connection

Answer:Wireless works fine, Ethernet doesn't

Odds are that the NIC has failed.

Another low possibility (in addition to cable and router LAN port) are the PC's firewall or security suite misconfigured or corrupted.

Another thing to try: in Device Manager right click on the ethernet - Properties - Advanced tab - for the 'Speed & Duplex' property try different values beginning with '100 Mbps full duplex' and '10 Mbps full duplex.'

I'm sure this has been asked 1000 times but I cannot seem to find my exact issue anywhere. Hopefully this helps myself and anyone who runs into this issue.

To start, I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Everything worked 100% fine with absolutly no issue and then.... I moved. Now we have Fios instead of Comcast.

Now to the issue. When I have the ethernet connected I cannot get internet access but I have full network access. I went out and purchased a new wirless card and wirless works just fine. I tested 2 different cables, recrimped both of them and nothing. I have activity on the PC and the Router so I am sure they are good.

I have tried everything I have read online, Updated Realtek Family PCI Ethernet drivers from MSIglobal. Disabled/Enabled. ipconfig /flushdns, /release and /renew. I went as far as Backing up and reformating the Hard Drive and before reinstalling the backup I tested it and nothing. Restored my backup file and yep.. nothing.

Its kind of frustrating. I'm not exactly and expert but i am in no way a novice either. This one has me stumped. Im thinking maybe it is a windows service that is not set to start correctly but I figured I would creat a post while I am at work and maybe have and answer to test before I hunt through the services tonight.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

I have a P7H55 Asus Motherboard with the ethernet port and cable working fine individually. However, when i connect them together, the ethernet light on the router remains stable as if connected but still the desktop shows not connected. This time i have installed the drivers which came from the motherboard manufacturer and are the latest. In the Network and Sharing Center, the icon is enabled. It does not show cross sign. Earlier my desktop was to b in d same place where the router was der. Everything worked fine. Now I decided to shift my desktop to another room. I have kept the router at the earlier place only. I have brought a 25m long new cat 5 cable. When I connected it to my desktop, the orange led on ethernet port do not light up and the desktop is unable to detect the ethernet cable and hence the internet connection. On the router, a light of ethernet keeps on blinking every 1 second. I was worried whether my ethernet port got fried. So i inserted another ethernet cable, but then the ethernet orange light came and the pc detedted the connection. Therefore I thought the cable might be faulty. Therefore I connected my laptop with that 25m cable. But my laptop detected it and showed the internet connection. But now when i again connect the cable to my desktop, there's no light and the pc does not detect it. However, if i connect the 25m cable to my desktop then during boot the ethernet light on router is stable just as when it is normally connected to the internet. But when i go into windows it starts blinking every 1 second.

My router is MTNL Model No. UT-304R2
Desktop - Asus P7H55, core i5
Laptop- HP 2000
Windows 7 Ultimate on both desktop and laptop.

I have an Ideapad U330 that will not get online using ethernet in windows. Before you ask, no it isnt my router. When I use an Ubuntu bootable disk, the ethernet works fine and I can surf the web without issue. I reformatted and installed windows 7 x86 (It had windows XP previously and the ethernet didnt work there either), installed all the drivers, and updated the BIOS, the ethernet still does not work while the wireless works fine. Recently I performed a reinstallation of windows on my laptop. Normally I had no problems with the wireless, but after the reinstallation my laptop refuses to acknowledge that there are wireless networks. When I'm not connected to the internet, it asks to connect using a wire connection only.

I have a Dell Inspiron iM101z running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I downloaded all the drivers for what the Dell website told me my laptop model was, a Dell Inspiron 1121. Attached is a picture showing the oddities of my problem. The icon on the taskbar shows that I have to connect with an ethernet cord; no wireless icon is shown.

If I try to unplug the ethernet cable and connect to the internet, I only get the option to do a broadband connection. Also, once I unplug the cable, I get "no connections available."

Answer:Laptop refuses to detect anything wireless, ethernet works fine

Most likely this is still a driver problem.

Got an issue with using the Ethernet where it would Blue screen my PC. If I use WiFi, it's fine but the moment I use Ethernet it crashes with a paged fault in non paged area BSOD. I have updated drivers, cleared and reupdated drivers to noavail. Also bought a new NIC and cat5 cable and it's still causing stop errors.

Crashes point to a problem with your display card and possibly your RAM. I also see Service Pack 1 is not installed, which may be the underlying factor for all the crashes.

I am on a Win 7 based computer. New apt, new internet connection. Old router.
Connects to net fine with an ethernet cable.
Connects to the wifi signal (strong signal) with password authentication BUT no internet access.
All my laptops are experiencing the same issue- so it does not appear to be related to the computer.
I then connected the ethernet cable to a Linksys E2000. Again, good signal, clear connection BUT no internet access.
What can I do??

Hi all. This is driving me nuts. Brand new Tecra A10 with a brand new port replicator and a brand new external LCD screen. When I plug them all in together, and connect the screen using the blue/analog/d-sub cable, the image on the notebook screen is automatically switched to the external screen when the A10 is docked. But when the external screen is connected with the white/digital/DVI cable, the Tecra and/or replicator doesn't auto-switch the output to the external screen.

In addition, when you press Fn+F5 to switch the output from LCD only to LCD+CRT or CRT only, the Tecra is so 'smart' as to "realise" there is no screen, and it switches the output back to the Tecra only.

Now, we'd put up with the blue/analog/d-sub cable, but the image is wavey and not satisfactory at all.

Just so we're clear - when the screen is plugged into another computer, there is a nice clear image on/via the white/digital/DVI cable, so I don't think it is the screen.

Can anyone help with this please? Is the replicator faulty? Or am I missing something?

Many thanks

Answer:Tecra A10 with replicator - no output to DVI port but analog works fine

A Port Replicator simply replicates the ports on your laptop.

The Tecra A10 has an Intel Graphics chip that doesn't support DVI output. So you are stuck with Analog (or HDMI if the laptop has an HDMI port).

I've tried DHCP and Static IP configurations, and I've tried connecting the ethernet directly to the modem instead of the router, but to no avail. I believe I've managed at times to access the router from the PC (only with static IP), but never the internet as well. I've tried 3 cat 5 cables as well.

Here are some pictures with more details of my config

I've been banging my head against this for 8+ hours...can anyone see what I'm missing?

I've tried DHCP and Static IP configurations, and I've tried connecting the ethernet directly to the modem instead of the router, but to no avail. I believe I've managed at times to access the router from the PC (only with static IP), but never the internet as well. I've tried 3 cat 5 cables as well.

Here are some pictures with more details of my config

I've been banging my head against this for 8+ hours...can anyone see what I'm missing?

Hello,My name is Vladan and I have had a problem occur yesterday. My internet stopped working.I immediately tried my phone's wireless connection and saw that it was working fine, so I tried laptop wireless and it too was working. When I plug in my network cable it stops working. My ethernet internet connection status shows that Ipv4 and Ipv6 have "no internet accsess". It's not just my laptop's wired internet that stopped working, it's the whole network I have in my apartment consisting of two more computers who also lost their wired-ethernet internet accsess. I suspect something is wrong with my router since it relays my internet but wireless works fine so I'm stumped. When I plug in my cable it shows limited connectivity.I have tried ipconfig /release - /renew, I have tried netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset log.txt I have tried (netsh winsock reset catalog), also I tried (netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log) and it said the following ::::::Resetting Interface, OK!Resetting Neighbor, OK!Resetting Path, OK!Resetting , failed.Accsess is denied.Resetting, OK!Restart the computer to complete this action.::::I don't know what is this "failed and accsess is denied" but it might be the problem.I have rebooted my router several times but also with no results. I have checked DHCP settings for both router and laptop adapter and it all checks out. I have check IP filtering and MAC filtering on router and it all looks fine. I use no f... Read more

Answer:Network troubleshoot - Ethernet (wired) stopped working, Wireless works fine.

Did your ISP give you this router such as your leasing it etc? If so contact them for a replacement. If you own this router then I'd try factory reset button to set it back to factory default. If that doesn't cure this then buy a new router. They are pretty cheap these days.Your router could have been hacked, the access denied is strange!

I have a Dell Dimension 3100, Windows XP. I recently had "blue screen" problems which required me to perform a clean install on my PC.  I have reinstalled most of the stuff that was on there but when I come to re-install my modem i get the message "NO ETHERNET PORT DETECTED" when obviously there is one there as it worked OK brfore the Clean Install.I do get another message from my install disk saying......go to control panel....network connections....you will see a list of connections....right click....click enable. But I just get a blank list, nothing to click enable on. I have scoured the Dell support site without success. Any help much appreciated.

So, It's like this: My ethernet port, which is attached to my motherboard, is not detected by my comp. There are two lights, an orange, and a green, normally, they both light up when connected and the green one blinks, and when it's not connected neither lights up. The orange light stays lit up when it's disconnected now. I've tryed reinstalling the driver, changing the cords, and changing the hubs, does anyone have a solution?
Thanks.

Did you enable it in the BIOS?

Did you check the Device Manger to see if it Ghosted, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Help please.

Answer:Help! Ethernet Port ot being Detected

Well, TinyXP is kinda weird like that, i tried it on a friends Celeron 333, and it did stuff like that.

Go to the HP Support and Drivers Page, download your drivers for the ethernet, and try again. Make sure that you are installing from the Device Manager. (Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager)

HII was just wondering if anyone would help me. I have a modem which I have been using for 6 years but the last 2 years, using it on my laptop. Last month I did a factory restore on my laptop but havent since then tried using the modem. Only yesterday I tried to set up the modem again i started getting this message (i think it might have deleted by accident during the restore process?):No Ethernet ports have been found and an Ethernet connection was selected An Ethernet port is required to connect the modem to the computer.I went into device manager all it had was microsoft 6to4 adaptor with a yellow exclamation mark next to it when I went to investigate further it said that it could not load drivers or something. Anyways trying to take the initiative to fix it myself I uninstalled the driver thinking I can install it again but no such luck. I went into the toshiba australia website downloaded a driver which looked like the right one (wired LAN) but it didnt work.Tried doing a system restore but it wouldnt let me go further back than 9 january 2010. have tried downloading other drivers but i think theyre the wrong ones becuase it says ethernet network card? or do they just mean ethernet card component in the laptop? All i know and i can remember is that it was realtek family fast ethernet LAN with some other numbers. its not even showing up under LAN networks in network manager.SO basically whenever I hook up the ethernet cable to my ethernet port no lights are flashing l... My Y500 decided it couldn't receive internet on any connection today. It would connect to any network but it would say that there was no internet. I plugged my computer directly into the modem with an ethernet cable and it still said there was no internet. My router was sending out 5Ghz wifi fine and I was using several other devices on the network successfully. Any idea what could be wrong? I thought it would be my wireless card, but wouldn't I still be able to receive internet through my ethernet port then? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. I don't want to have to buy a new laptop just because this silly nonsense. I have two computers, one is a desktop and one is a laptop. My desktop is connected to my router via an ethernet cable and my laptop is a wireless connection to my router. I have 2 cables, cable 1 is connected from the wall to my router and cable 2 is connected from my router to my desktop. If I plug cable 2 into my ethernet port 3 and cable 1 into any other port I get internet access to my desktop and not my labtop. If I plug cable 1 into ethernet port 3 and cable 2 into any other port I get internet access to my laptop only. The entire time I can always connect both devises to the router it's just that only 1 will have internet access and the other will always say "dns server not responding." I have searched all over the internet for help with no success. Please assist me if i can and thank you for the help.

Gooday. I have a Levono think centre I am trying to connect to the internet, it comes up with no useable ethernet port has been detected. It is 42y6492 with xp pro. Can anyone tell me how to get it to connect.

Answer:no usable ethernet port has been detected

Hi.In XP, go to Control Panel and find Administrative Tools. From there, click on Computer Management and from there go to Device Manager. Here you can see all devices, ports and drives on your machine. Find the one under network to make sure that the Ethernet port is running and working correctly and that it has the correct driver installed. That may be your problem. If not, I would recommend taking a screenshot (PrintScreen) of the error and posting it here. Also, this issue may be computer/hardware specific. If the above does not solve your issue, can you tell us the full machine type and model of your computer?Good luck,Adam

Hi everyone,

I think I either disabled or removed the ethernet LAN on my NB200 to remove it from the system tray. (I can use the built-in WiFi for networking and internet access, or an external Bluetooth adapter with my Telstra Next G phone as a modem.)

Now I want to enable and use the ethernet port so I can connect to an old-ish computer using a cross-over cable to copy a bunch of files however I cannot get the ethernet LAN working again. I have tried several times to Add Hardware and uninstall/reinstall the driver (downloaded from this site), reboot, &etc. without success.

Any hints or suggestions? Has anyone seen a similar problem before?

Many thanks!

Regards,
Daniel

Answer:NB200 ethernet LAN port is not detected

If it is there, is it disabled? If so then you can enable it there. Right click on it and select enable from the list.

Hey,
My desktop is connected to my router via cable. And it randomly gets disconnected from time to time. I've tried re-installing drivers. I get the red X on my network icon in the taskbar, which usually happens when a cable is unplugged. I fixes it self after a minute or 2, its never longer than 1 minute, usually 10-15 seconds, and it happens ever 10-15 minutes.

My wifi works fine, and I have a vonage box connected to my main router which works fine too. It's just my desktop. I've tried different ports, same problem.

I'm heading home in a few hours and I've picked up a new 5 meter cable to check with.

What else could be the problem if the new cable doesn't fix it.

My network adapter is the on baord one on the Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks.

Answer:Network randomly disconnecting. Wifi works fine.

Seems to be something wrong within the cable or could be the network card within your pc? Did you try the cable on any other pc or that?

Hello, I've been having this issue recently. On my laptop, the wifi works fine, and then a little while later, it can't connect at all (it looks like it's connected, then disconnects, and then tries connect again, etc). All the other devices connected to the router is fine, only mine is the problem. I tried looking at device manager, the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 is enabled, updated, and in the properties, it says that the device is working properly.

The problem does go away temporarily when I turn off the router, wait a little, and then turn it back on, but soon afterwards, I continue to have connecting issues.

Here's the info

1. Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?
Wireless

2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
Verizon

3. What type of Broadband connection are you using?
Fios

4. What is the exact Make and Model of your Modem, Router or Modem/Router Combo - Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, TP-LINK, etc.
Router: Actiontec? Not totally sure

5. What is the Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software installed from the problematic
Avast

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Thanks for using the basic requirements, all info provided were very helpful. Your Xirrus capture looks good, no issue there, however, I see that in your wireless connection you're using Public DNS, why not change the DNS'es to auto same as your LAN DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1. You'll have to click on Obtain DNS address automatically....Please follow this Tutorial.

Also, it's best to use WPA2 with AES encryption for a better secured network, you're currently using WEP.

Have an Asus ultrabook laptop with an Atheros 9485WB-EB wifi/BT adapter. When I'm away from home, it works perfectly. At home, it sees our home network but refuses to connect to it - just get a cannot connect error.

It used to work fine, and then it's gradually gotten worse. At first rebooting the laptop would make it work for a while, then that quit working. Now it's just non-fuctional at home.

Home wifi works fine with other devices as well, and if I plug a USB wifi adapter into the laptop that works too.

Home router is (I forget the model, have to look when I get home) running dd-wrt. Rebooting the router doesn't fix the problem.

Any idea what would make it quit? No setting have been changed on the router during all this.

Hi Guys,

Using windows 8.1 and ubuntu in dual boot on my laptop.

When i thether my iphone in ubuntu and connect to internet using USB,the Ethernet connection works.

Now strangely in my windows setup,i cant find my Atheros Ethernet in device manager nor even in Network and Sharing center.

When i use iphone as personal hotspot in wifi, the connection drops intermittently and i have to re connect always.

I did reinstall my ethernet drivers but the problem persists.

Any help will be appreciated

Answer:Ethernet port not detected in device manager

Not seeing the LAN adapter in Device Manager is strange. How about in Hidden Devices? I would start by running sfc /scannow.

If you run in Safe Mode with networking what happens?

Hi!
As the title explains, I have a 40k Mbit/s connection, which my father's and sister's laptop get as advertised, but my pc gets speeds that vary from 2k-15k Mbits/s. Although, when I connect to the internet via ethernet cable the speed is as advertised, around 30k-40k. So I replaced the wifi adapter usb, but that did nothing, so I ran malware tests, even though nod32 did end up removing a MyStartSearch browser malware, internet speed is still slow. My dad also reset and reconfigured the router's setting but to no avail. I'm all out of ideas at this point, what to do next?
I also checked for any programs that might interfere or limit my internet speed in any way but found none. I should also mention that between malwarebytes and nod32 ive perhaps removed the same MyStartSearch malware 5 times already.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Answer:Wifi speed is inexplicably slow, other pc's unaffected, with ethernet cable fine

I've removed the startsearch malware before and after i got the rly bad internet, it doesn't really seem to be related to it tho.

So I am attempting to connect to the wifi network at my girlfriends place, which I have done fine previously, but my laptop cant find it at all. I have tried restrarting my laptop, installing new drivers for the atheros wireless adaptor, resetting the router, but it still wont show up. It connects fine to other (older and newer) devices, and works fine when connected via ethernet cable, but it is hardly practical to sit on top of the router all day.

My laptop detects other networks fine, such as those of the neighbors and connects to my own home network fine. I have also tried deleting the saved network and manually connecting to the network while also checking the box about connecting even if the network is not broadcasting its SSID. Still nothing. I also checked power management settings and made sure it the network adaptor was using max performance power settings.

Previously when I set up their router, it was broadcasting on a single channel between 1 and 11, cant remember exactly which, and I have no reason to believe they have changed it.

Answer:Cant find specific Wifi Network but works fine with other devices.

connect by ethernet and have a look at the name and channel- it could be using channel 12 or 13 which is allowed outside the US but your PC is using channels 1-11 if US based setting

look at the SSID name and if indeed set to broadcast

I have seen that issue a few times - although xirrus usually shows the channel

all those signals are very low

whats the name of the wireless signal at your girlfriends
and where is that xirrus screen shot from - your girlfriends ?

Hello!
I just got a new modem (Netgear) that I replaced the old one (D-Link). The wifi is working perfectly, laptops, iPads etc. is working all fine.
The problem is, the computer that uses Ethernet cable isn't working at all. It's says 'Internet service unavailable' and the networks name went from 'unidentified' to 'Network 2'. Both computers using Ethernet cable isn't working and I have updated drive, try to see if it is the routers (Belkin G wireless)fault etc. Even my printer isn't working even though it uses wifi. The printer tough says 'Press router's WSP button' but my router doesn't have one.

So how can I fix this problem and make those computers work?

(Sorry for the description/language, I only have basic computer knowledge)

Thanks!

I can't get my network card to work when plugged into the wall. The computer detects the card and all but I can't get it to detect the lan cable, and the card doesn't light up. At first I thought maybe the cord port was jacked but I was messing around with it and at one point my laptop and the PC/network card were connected and it lit up. Can't get internet that way of course. I can also get it to work from PC to PS3, I can successfully transfer files through FTP.
What's going on?

By the way I'm at a university. There's no modem or router for me to reset or anything like that. And yes the actual cable works, and so does the walljack I'm connecting from, they both work with my laptop. I've tried plugging and unplugging, using different cables, resetting the cmos, doing a system restore point, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, no changes. It's a brand new card, and it never worked.

I mean it would be one thing if it at least detected the cable and the internet didn't work, but for it to detect the cable when plugged into anything except the walljack when I know the walljack works, the cable works, and the network card works to at least some extent... I've never had a problem like this before. I could reinstall Windows 7 but, I dunno, I have a feeling that won't work.

No problems are detected in the device manager. ipconfig /all gives me a media disconnected for everything.

Hi ,I bought a "gigabyte gtx 950" for my pc and my motherboard is "gigabyte m52ltd3" & my OS is windows 7 . I have problem with my onboard ethernet port.

I found that the Ethernet port is not working and when i removed the new graphic card and reinstalled the old one, Ethernet port worked correctly.

But when i use the new graphic card i cant use ethernet port to connect to the internet.I tried to install the driver of ethernet port of my motherboard but i wasn't succesful and even in device manager , network adapters was not in the list!

I'm sure that my Power Supply is enough powerful and the new graphic card works exellent but i can't use the on-board ethernet port

Is buying a newer motherboard the only solution?
If i buy a pci network card it will be slove?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Ethernet port not works after install a new graphic card

I've not seen that before. Maybe someone will know an actual solution. But if not, you could simply install a new NIC using an open slot on the motherboard or use an external USB model (internal would be preferred).

I have been using my ASUS X53E laptop on the WiFi at my university for the past 4 months with no problems connecting to the internet. A few days ago, my internet suddenly started going in and out. It will work alright for about an hour, and then it will stop working completely, even though it says my WiFi connection is still "excellent". However, when I plugged in an ethernet cable, it has been working perfectly with no problems.
No one else around me has been having problems with the WiFi - it's just me. Any ideas?

I just moved and have been trying to get my PC connected to the internet at my new place. I have a Dlink AC750 dual band wireless router, and my computer has no problem connecting to it wirelessly. However I cannot figure out how to connect directly by ethernet. I have a cable running from the router to the back of the PC, but the icon in my tray just says 'No connections are available'. I have also tried connecting directly to the PC bypassing the router. Everyone I have spoken to, including tech support, has told me that you "plug it in and it just works". Am I missing some step in getting my PC to recognize the ethernet cable?

I've been having a problem of late where my ethernet connection has been unable to gain internet access and reportedly shows the network as being 'unidentified'. It will be unable to connect for a long period during the day and then regains access.

However, if I connect my USB Wifi adapter, it picks up the network immediately and internet connection isn't a problem.

This is the ipconfig /all whilst both USB Wifi and ethernet cable are connected.

And if I plug into the ethernet cable, I can get the laptop to go the internet. But when I connect to my wifi connection, I end up with only a local connection. On a side note, the first time I tried to connect to the signal, my computer asked me to set up a profile for it (WLAN profile I think). And I did, stupidly. I vaguely remember having a problem with that in the past, but I had tech support at my college that fixed it.

I have restarted both the modem/router and my computer multiple times. I have tried to repair the connection with Windows. I have tried tech support with comcast, but they keep referring me to the computer manufacturer. There is an unsecured signal nearby I CAN connect to (tried out of curiosity to make sure it WASN'T the laptop), but I don't want to pirate, so instead I stay tethered to my 2ft ethernet cable. I have searched google and reddit to no avail. I do not claim to be tech savvy, but I can follow directions pretty well (just be specific step-by-step). Last night out of desperation I tried the Geek Squad online chat to help, bu... Read more

So i was given a laptop to repair, a Lenovo Z50-70 to be precise. So the guy said his Wifi and Ethernet weren't working (Error 45 in device manager (seems to suggest they arent connected which i don't understand considering its a laptop)). later, it "died" temporarily (as in, wouldn't boot or anything). It's decided to work again. I did a OS rollback to see if perhaps it was OS side. The problem is still occurring. I can use a phone to tether so i don't believe it's software related. (I'm yet to pull it apart to see if anythings been spilt for example). When i do attempt to reinstall drivers, it states the devices cant be found. (the devices were actually hidden in device manager). any ideas as to what could be the issue before i say mobo? (it seems the bios thinks it's 10 days ago too if that's relevant).

Specs:
i7-4510U
8gb DDR3
Nvidia 820m
1TB HDD
As far as im aware, it is stock from the shop. It's just out of it's 12 month warranty (as per usual).

So I did a bios update and reset to defaults, no change. I'm doing the OS reset, I'll check if it's there. If not, I'm gunna try upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that fixes the issue. I tried disabling the wifi card in the bios, thinking maybe disable reenable might do it possibly. No change.

Honestly this has me stumped haha. Like the driver installations can't find the hardware. I can tether with a phone. But the lan and wifi don't work. So strange.

Answer:Ethernet Wifi not working (not detected). Lenovo Z50-70

Your Subject line of "Ethernet Wifi not working (not detected)" speaks to 2 different things. Ethernet is the cable connection to a modem or router, Wi-Fi is the wireless connections to the modem or router. They use different adapters with the Ethernet socket being on the motherboard and the Wi-Fi adapter being plugged into a socket on the motherboard and 2 wires in the Display panel for the antenna. They usually use different drivers but do need the drivers installed for both devices to show up in Device Manager, Network adapters. Some Desktops may have the added Wi-Fi adapter. If a Notebook has Bluetooth wireless it usually is part of the Wi-Fi adapter. I usually boot to a Linux LiveDVD to check if the adapters still work as Linux tends to have support for a variety of devices, download an .iso file and use to burn the DVD.

One other thing, while the Ethernet can be disabled in the BIOS and also the Wireless adapter there usually is a switch or a key to turn the Wireless On or Off or maybe an Fn + another key to toggle it On or Off, similar to hardware control of Sound. Seems every brand and even some models within a brand do it different from others.

Hi all!

I have a problem with my university internet. I can connect fine through wireless, no problems at all.
However when I attempt to use my ethernet cable, I have a connection for 5-10 seconds before any webpage I attempt to access is directed to a portal to log in with my university ID and password. Once I do so and the portal has confirmed that I have access (the user/pass has worked), the display page tells me to retry my original URL, however the internet connection does not work and I am not able to access anything. Any help? Thanks!

I have gone to the help center at my school and they were unable to help me

So for about 2-3 months I've been running hardwired Ethernet internet instead of wifi. I keep my Dell plugged into my tv. The other day I tried to move it and use wifi in another room but I have no option. When I first started with Windows 10 on release day I was using wifi with no problems and when going the Ethernet route it was always plug n play when you going to wifi vs wired.
1. Even after unplugging the Ethernet cord the symbol doesn't change to a wireless symbol the Ethernet symbol just has a little red box.
2. Tried turning airplane mode on and off as well as full pc reboot
3. Right clicking internet from the bottom right of the screen image and clicking open network and sharing doesn't give any wireless options
4. I've tried troubleshooting also with Ethernet unplugged and no success.
So just to repeat Ethernet works perfectly. Wifi used to work. My roommate who also is running the same version of Dell wifi works perfectly. Same account and everything.
The only thing I can think of is the pc updated one day as I have automatic updates and it wiped the driver maybe. So if anyone has any ideas on what to do.
Thanks

Running Win 8.1 on Lenovo Y410p. Verizon FIOS router, Actiontec MI424WR (Actiontec[1] ).
Everything was running fine until last night. No internet when I connected to the router with an ethernet cable, but the wifi still works. I ran windows troubleshooting diagnostic and it said ETHERNET DOESN'T HAVE A VALID IP. Restarted my laptop and the router, changed ports, got a new ethernet cable, tried hooking up another laptop, still nothing. It shows up as Unidentified Network with No Internet Access. Xbox is also connected to router via ethernet, that isn't working either. The wifi is working but it's shoddy, every few minutes it'll lag, Chrome will go into NOT RESPONDING mode for a second or 2 and then go back to working. Wifi is also prone to dropping out and coming back at times.
Please advise.

Answer:Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP, wifi still works?

Power cycle your ISP Modem, router and computer(s).

Power all off
Remove power from modem and router for 30 seconds or so.
Connect power to modem, wait for it to finish booting and stabilize
Connect power to router, wait for it to finish booting and stabilize
Power up computer with Ethernet cable already connected

If still not working: collect IP configuration information as follows:

Open a Elevated Command Prompt:

Press WIN + X to open Start context menu.
Select Command Prompt (Admin).

Paste the following into the Command Prompt window, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" | find /i "proxy" >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close. Paste the information in a reply here.

I have my Home Security System, ip cameras... On a router and going to ethernet
my laptop
.
On that same laptop I connect wirelessy from my internet modem. but I get an error message saying that Multiple Networks have been detected. To configure the router correctly to solve the problem.

I have seen the internet working , with the additional router. Then it just blinks out and I get a message saying no internet available.

Something that should be simple to fix or maby I should just buy a USB wifi adapter instead of using the Ethernet Cable from my Modem or router. 2 wifi -connections instead of wifi- Ethernet connections. If that is possible.

Hello,i have made a clean install of Win7Pro on my two days old SL510 (28477MG). I have even installed the latest Wifi-drivers for the "Intel WiFi link 1000bgn" from Intel (version 13.2.1.5, available from Intel since 02.07.2010), as the Lenovo-drivers did not work. WiFi is switched on (this is shown via the Fn/F5), my network is shown as available. Nonetheless i can not connect via wifi, even when all wifi-protection is switched off. Connection to my router via ethernet works without problems. Would appreciate support. Stefan

Hi All,

I have Windows Vista home premium. I moved from Chicago to Boston. Before I left Chicago, I tried removing kaspersky internet security 2011 as my laptop used to heat up and shut down often (you can hear the voice from laptop when more process are running and it shut's down). While uninstalling kaspersky, the laptop shutdown half way.

I moved to Boston, I tried connecting to wireless, it does not work. It shows connected, excellent signal strength but bytes received 0. Wireless works fine for other room mates on their laptops. If I try connecting from cable, internet works fine.

Answer:Solved: ethernet cable works, wifi does not work

The following was put together mostly by etaf with a little help from me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007
Over the last four or so years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

--- 3) On one occasion re-setting the router back to factory default and re-configuring the router settings has resolved the issue

--- 4) The majority of members, have now used the drivers from the atheros driver site, which has resolved the issue.

Hey guys,

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEH15EN laptop & the OS is Windows 7 home basic. I have a wifi router which is of TPLINK.

The wifi won't connect to my laptop but it works fine on my mobile..it would only start working when I use the ethernet cable. I never had this problem before. I have tried everything ..I also tried the winsockfix.bat but all my efforts have gone in vain..I just don't know if the wifi router is faulty or the modem of my ISP...Please help me solve this problem.

Best Regards,

Answer:Wifi on my laptop won't work but works when I use the ethernet cable

I have solved the problem by myself. To do this, first you have to disconnect your Ethernet cable from your laptop and follow the steps: Start>Control Panel>Network and Sharing Center>Manage Wireless Networks and remove all wireless connections by right click on it and select Remove network from the drop down menu. After doing this, close the windows and scan for the Wi-Fi networks. Click on the available network and select connect. After a while, you will be asked to give a password for your Wi-Fi connection. Type the password and click on connect button. And now will be connected to your Wi-Fi network via wireless.

May be it will help you.

My laptop has been running windows 10 very well for the past month. About 2 weeks ago my computer stop detecting wifi devices. just last week my computer has decided to stop detecting ethernet at random times. sometimes it lasts for 15 min. sometimes it lasts for hours. I do sometimes have internet for 15 min after startup but then it just loses conection. i have tried updating my wifi drivers but it says they are up to date. PLEASE HELP.

Answer:laptop will not detect wifi anymore and ethernet not detected at times

Hi How old is your router?? They wear out just like all electrical products. I had a Motorola that was 4 years old causing the problems you're having. I bought a NETGEAR and no more problems. If your router is very old, it could be time to replace it.
Most stores have a two week return. If the new router acts the same, return it and try to find other solutions!
You could have a internet adapter going bad!!

Hi All, I currently use Access Connections in my company's offices. However my desk has been relocated far away from the router so the signal is very weak for my phone. I've already setup Access Connections to disable Wifi when I connect to Ethernet(via a dock) and connect to office Wifi if undocked. When having both Ethernet and Wifi netowrks active I get a lot of redirect loop errors with sites. So I while I'm connected to Ethernet I want the Wifi radio on, but only for Mobile Hotspot. And then when I undock, the laptop should connect to the office's Wifi. Anyone know best how this can be done? FYI: This is a Thinkpad T420

Answer:Access Connections: When Ethernet is detected, use Wifi only for Mobile Hotspot

Hi and welcome, novoaj-njhitec1. Create connection profile with preferable (best available) network connection while laptop is on the dock2. Keep wifi radio on while laptop is docked (uncheck the box in the AC)3. Set the SSID for the wifi hotspot different from the office network oneAnother way is to use netsh capabilities.

So this might be pretty long but this is all that has happened so far. So my laptop which is a HP DM4 it was fine nd everything but it would shut itself off but i had it plugged in and everything then when i went to turn it bck on it said to put a recovery disc so i went on my mom's laptop nd downloaded that nd burned it and used it. It reinstalled Windows 7 but when it would boot up it would look like Windows 7 but the log on screen nd home screen would look like Windows XP so i been downloading drivers since i dnt have most the stuff i need nd i got Areo nd it looks like Windows 7 again but the clock nd those icons still look like XP like it shows a computer instead of wifi bars. So problem is now that my internet button doesnt work for wifi nd there is no networks to connect too nd some drivers are missing which ive tried so many things nd not getting anywhere. Idk what i did though but out of the times i was trying to download windows 7 i finally got windows 7 home premium up but it was all black nd said it was an ungenuine copy nd was on a temporary account nd everything would get deleted after logging off. After i shut dwn it made me reinstall windows nd now ive tried to get bck to the black screen one but it just goes ito the XP looking one.

Hi guys - setting up computers in my new home and have got the wifi working fine with my BT Home Hub router (works for laptops, mobile devices etc)
Have been trying to connect via Ethernet for a laptop and home pc for a faster/more reliable connection but it doesn't seem to be working.

When plugged in the Network and Sharing Centre simply displays the loading blue circle with 'identifying' but no network access. When clicking on the Local Area Connection Status both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity state no network access, but I can't seem to find any hardware problems on the laptop. The same issue occurs for other laptops at home and I know my laptop works with Ethernet at work.

Running ipconfig/all shows that DHCP is enabled (I checked this on the properties tab for the IPvs), autoconfiguration is enabled. I can add in a copy and paste of the whole ipconfig/all if that's helpful - 'media disconnected' shows for Tunnel adapters but I don't really understand what they are...

If anyone could help at all I'd be really grateful !

Answer:Cannot connect via Ethernet to BTHub3 Wireless Router - but wifi works

Could be that the router is only set to wifi.
go to your router setting page open it (192.168.0.1) check the settings there,
password is probably admin if you havn't changed it, please do change it if you havn't.

Or plan B reset the router

I would like to connect my USB WIFI dongle directly to my wired router, this would enable me to have wifi access without having my PC switched on all the time, is this possible and if so what kind of adapter do I need? Would it not be easier to just get a wireless router? If you're with any of the main companies, they will probably give you one if you ask (and if they don't, threaten to leave and then they probably will!).

The Intel AC3165 wifi adapter on my Inspiron 7559 periodically will disconnect every couple of minutes and most the time I have to go through the Disable/Enable route to get it to work.  But then, magically, it will start to work properly and will do so for several days until the problems start again.
I have the latest driver installed (18.33.0.1) and I have turned off the "allow operating system to turn off wifi" switch.  And I have played with other settings until I am blue in the face.
Furthermore, even when the adapter doesn't continually disconnect, it is totally unreliable when switching from one wifi source to another.  Sometimes the change is easy, but many times I have to reboot the computer to make it happen.  Very frustrating.

Wifi suddenly stopped working, works with Ethernet cable, works with iPad and iPhone, but not with Sony Vaio laptop wifi.

Have spent hours on the phone with Internet Service Provider, who went through all settings and checked everything (checked CMD prompts and changed SSID, created new channels, etc).

I'm using Windows 7 and have McAfee. What could have caused this to suddenly stop working? How do I get it to work again? I have checked my wifi is still on, it still connects to the wireless modem router (D-Link), and at start up has a yellow triangle with exclamation mark inside, then that disappears and says internet is connected (on internet bars icon) but no browsing is possible at all with any of my browsers (chrome, Firefox, explorer).

Have disabled McAfee firewall, have restarted in safe mode, but nothing is helping.

Have tried on different wifi connections, with same problem. I restored to the last date I could use wifi and it didn't change anything.... Help please!

I have a Dell Studio 17 with Vista and Wifi capability. I've had the computer for a year and a half, and I've never had a major problem with wireless connection before. Any problem has been purely because of a low connection strength or because I was in a classroom (I'm a college student) in which multiple people were trying to connect at once. Eventually it always worked.

I was home for the weekend and connected to my primary wireless connection and all of a sudden I lost connection and could not reconnect.

I tried restarting and shutting off both the computer and wireless router. I tried resetting the wireless router. I tried turning on and off the Wifi button on my computer. Still cannot connect.

I plugged in an ethernet cable into my internet directly from the router and it runs fine (that is how I am on the internet on my laptop at the moment).

I will not always have access to an ethernet cable when I go back to school later today and I have a project I need to research so I'm kind of in a rush to get this figured out. Also it's just so much easier connecting wireless and obviously I'd like this fixed.

Anyway, I read up on other people's similar problem and I don't know if I changed something or messed up, but now whenever i click to view Wireless Connections the router for my house has a red x next to it and says "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network."

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7. I have been using Time Warner Internet. It worked fine until yesterday. WiFi stopped working out of the blue. When I tried, wired connection works pretty well. I do not recall any significant changes to my computer while this happened. So now I can connect to the wifi hotspot but it says "No Internet Connection". When I connect the LAN wire with the WiFi router, internet works. The moment I remove it, it says No Internet Access, although computer is connected to the hotspot and signal is very well.

The drivers are being shown as up to date in device manager.

I tried following instructions given here: http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-Winsock-and-TCP/IP
This didn't work. Problem persists.

I have been through some threads around here. This is the ipconfig output:

Had an old WRT54G that the P51s would connect, however throughput was horrific.  Installed a EA6350.  An Acer Aspire connect fine.  Two Android phones connect fine. An Andropid tablet connects fine.  Aflipping Kindle Fire connects fine.   My P51s with Windows 10 will not connect.  Says Checking network requirements. then says Can't connect to network. Bring the P51s to work and it connects fine to the Meraki WiFi network. I have been through every step in the troubleshooting.  What do i try now?  I am not impressed so far.

I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. Anyhelp would be appreciated. My computer model:R51 2883-ARU Message Edited by jnwest on 09-07-2008 12:52 PMMessage Edited by jnwest on 09-07-2008 12:52 PMMessage Edited by jnwest on 09-07-2008 12:53 PM

Hello, thatīs a strange behavoir. It seems that google chrome had problems with AC and interferred with it.I would suggest uninstall and then install google chrome. See if AC is functioning as designed when google is uninstalled. Or try to download the newest verson of AC from driver page of Lenovo.Look at the link supports&downloads, on the very top of this page! greetsAndreas

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

The pc ethernet port has worked 100% up to this point. I'll just tell you what happened, Somehow, the tip of the speaker connection managed to get stuck in the green port.

After reading about what to do online, i opened up the pc and managed to open the back of the sound ports and push out the tip with a paperclip. But when I started up the pc again the ethernet cable wasent being dectected.

I've tried the cable out with the laptop and it works 100%, i've also tried a different cable into the pc and that isint being detected either (works 100% with laptop).

The drivers should be upto date. I had to remove the power supply cables from the inside of the computer to get at the sound ports , maybe i didnt put them back right? What cable controls the ethernet port?

I'm a bit lost, the lights on the lan port dont light up either.

Any ideas?

Answer:Ethernet cable not being detected. Cable works on other pcs.

First please accept my apologies for not posting in the correct category, if this is not a hardware issue. I feel I have eliminated all issues thus leading me to think it's a malfunctioning WLAN card or a driver issue. Here is the scenario:

* Last used Wifi 48 hrs ago, worked fine
* Today laptop detects wifi, but shows "connected with limited access" and doesn't connect.
* It is showing an IP address
* Tried Ethernet cord direct to wall and to back of router, did NOT work either.
* Other laptop in my household detects wifi and connects just fine.
* Restored to previous point 48 hrs ago - NOT SOLVED
* Uninstalled and reinstalled Wireless WLAN Card - NOT SOLVED
* Ran all Microsoft Diagnostic Tests including getting new IP settings for network adapter- NOT SOLVED
*Confirmed IPv6 is checked to auto obtain IP address for WiFi, as well as, the same for Hardwire Connection.
* Uninstalled all Firewalls, Antivirus programs - NOT SOLVED
* Toggled back and forth the wifi switch and the light is not coming on.

Answer:Challenge:Wifi Detected but won't connect+Won't connect w/Ethernet cord?

Welcome to Major Geeks.

Based on your statements that this is a very recent problem and that neither wired or Wi-Fi connections allow you to connect to the Internet, my suspicion is you have been infected with either a virus or malware.

Over the past few weeks, have you or anyone else downloaded and installed anything off the Internet or an unknown disc or flash drive? If you're not sure, go to CONTROL PANEL > PROGRAMS AND FEATURES and sort by date. Make note of anything installed in the past few weeks.

Also download Malware Bytes and the latest Malware Bytes definitions update in the Downloads section onto a USB drive. Boot the Dell into Safe Mode (F8 at the BIOS screen) then install and run Malware Bytes from the USB drive.

Post again in the Malware Removal forum with the results from both what (if anything) was recently installed plus the results of the Malware Bytes scan. The Malware Removal experts should be able to help you solve the problem.

Hope this helps.

I'm a new Plusnet customer and I cannot connect to the internet using wifi I just get a page saying the broadband is down. So I tried using an ethernet cable and after manually setting this up I can use the internet. I accidentally disconnected the cable yesterday but the internet didn't fault, it's now working wirelessly. I can connect to the wifi using my mobile and iPad but I cannot connect to the internet. A new router has been sent and the problem still persists, a bt engineer has also visited but cannot find a solution.

Can anybody please help me?

Answer:I can't connect to wifi but connect with an Ethernet cable works, even when it isn't plugged in

It gets confusing as to which device is being used so as a guideline
disable one or the other (wifi vs wired) and don't allow both to be active at the same time. Technically, which ever device gets an IP address from your router will become the gateway to your ISP - - ignoring the connectivity of the second device to access your router.

With a laptop, we just toggle the keyboard to enable/disable wifi and the wired is easy - - just pull the cable out.

create a desktop shortcut to \windows\system32\devmgmt.msc
to control the devices (needs admin access)
expand [+] network adapters and you'll see the list
mine are

Dell Wireless 1502 ....
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Just right-click->disable and you can always right-click->enable

The png posted shows both are enabled and the wired has the gateway.
If the cable is disconnected, this is quite impossible.

SO, first control which device is to be used and then make the connection.

Probably this is something simple in IE7 options/settings but I failed to figure it out.

This is happening on my desktop (am writing this on my laptop). It's failing to connect, with the exception being "secure" sites - https://....

Email is working fine.

Thanks
LSPSWR

PS this happened after we did Microsoft livecare free scan and implemented corrective actions (malware/virus deletions); it then prompted us to reboot, then indicated new Windows updates to install, and then it prompted us to re-install IE7

Answer:Solved: IE7 fails to connect to sites with http, works in https; email works fine

I've had trouble connecting to my own internet and have no wireless. I'm using my neighbor's wireless and it's really slowing her's down.

I've tried restarting my laptop (it usually works) and then reinstalled the device under "device manager". It's not the cord, I've checked with my neighbor's laptop and it works fine.

I use a Sony Vaio VGN-NS140E with Windows Vista SP2. I'm not sure what other information to give.

Any suggestions welcome!

Hi, I'm a forum virgin so please be gentle with me.

I have a desktop and laptop sharing files and an internet connection via modem to D-Link router setup.

My laptop connects to the network via a Netgear PCMCIA wireless card when mobile and via an ethernet cable when sitting on the desk.

The wireless connection does everything it's supposed to do (network and internet access and sharing).

The ethernet connection only shares files but can not get an internet connection to be established.

I have Norton Internet Security but I think everything's alright with that otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect wirelessly. Correct? Are there different IP setup's for wireless/ethernet.

Why can I 'see' my desktop's files and share the printer via ethernet but I can't establish an internet connection unless I go wireless?

Everything's fine with the desktop.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in anticipation.

Hi, after a long time I came back, settled in Toronto I found myself in need of superior assistance from the pros.

Not my laptop but a friends, by chance during lunch he mentions his webcam doesn't work anymore which surprised me cause I had to hold onto his laptop for 3 weeks while he was out of Canada, in any case I take a look and yes, webcam shows in use by another application, yet the webcam looks off and even skype is off, so instinct kicks and AV is not working, Win updates won't connect nor MB will update...tried to run Kas online...install closes by itself, and so it happens with every other malware detection program I tried, so I tell him to don't use it while I come back the next day and take it home, he managed to install and run some programs after googling around, in any case I have the laptop with me and so I decided to get help.

Stupid me...I was walking away from my Lenovo y570 and the ethernet cable got caught up around my leg, so I yanked it out of the PC. The metal thingy was busted so I pushed it back and put it in place with a pair of toothpicks. However, the ethernet cable goes out just enough to disconnect me. Can I buy only that metal part, if that's in fact the issue why my cable goes out just a little? I saw just a litle plastic thing that broke off too, is that the thing that keeps the cable locked (can I improvise and how)?My job is on the internet, so it brings the food on my table, please dear people, tell me if there's anything I can do? (HELP)
