Game install folder kept opening on restart

Question: Game install folder kept opening on restart

Sorry for the lengthy post.

I built a new computer for my sister with Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit.

Everything was set up with no problems. I started installing some games of hers that she currently has on her XP machine, with no problems.

Some she had downloaded from Amazon and I saved the install folders so we wouldn't have to download again. Some were from CD's.

One game by PlayFirst is called Diner Dash Hometown Hero. For some reason I had made a backup of the installed program folder on her Win XP machine. I don't know why. I thought this was the game installer, so I ran the game and it seemed to start, but it first gave a message searching for updates (which her XP game doesn't). Then I saw that she had a CD for the game and this was just a backup of the folder.

So I deleted that folder and installed the game from the disc. It installed fine, but when I reboot it opened the install folder. I couldn't figure out why. I uninstalled the game and rebooted and the folder still opened but was mostly empty. I deleted the folder and then got an error message that the folder didn't exist.

I searched the Start folder for all users and her user, I ran autoruns64 and couldn't find anything and I searched through the task scheduler and couldn't find anything. I then searched the registry and found 2 entries for the game (not startup) and deleted them. I also ran glarysoft reg cleaner and disk cleanup. I searched through startup items and services in msconfig as well. No luck.

I ran a full system scan with Norton Internet Security, Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy (all up to date), and then ran them all again in safe mode (in safe mode the folder didn't open). Still no luck.

I then restored the computer from a restore point before the game was installed, and still no luck.

I then tried to install the game again, and it still did it. I uninstalled the game but this time clicked on Custom (which I didn't before) and it allows you to select which entries to install. I selected everything, uninstalled and rebooted. And it was fixed !! I then reinstalled the game, and it's good. No folder popping up.

Sorry for the long explaination. Because of this I don't think it was a virus. I think that when I ran the program from the install folder first, without actually installing it, it screwed something up. And the original uninstall was not a complete uninstall, since I didn't do custom.

What bothers me is why system restore did not fix the problem. That is what worries me.

I searched through the text file of the install log of everything it creates and didn't see anything that shows a startup item so I have no idea why that was happening and why I couldn't find it anywhere.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Game install folder kept opening on restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I like to open my Temporary Internet Files from time to time to eliminate misc. items.....but, everytime I open the folder an Internet Explorer warning comes up that says,

I backup online with Carbonite and following my recent refresh of my laptop the files and folders in "Documents" are not being backed up.
Carbonite support took control of my laptop and told me: "The Documents Folder shortcut from within the Windows File Explorer is pinned to opening the Cookies Folder on your PC. You need to get the folders pinned and reorganised accordingly. Once the data is registered on your computer as a Document and not a Cookie file or folder, Carbonite will be able to back it up".

If I right click on the File Explorer icon in the Taskbar I don't see any mention of Cookies, so how do I overcome this problem? Can anyone please help?

Answer:Document Folder pinned to opening the Cookies folder

They appear to be commenting on something viewed via an explorer window, which they call "The Documents Folder shortcut".

I don't understand their statement- suggest you get back to them.

For some reason, the right-click context menu on any of my folders now defaults to Search..., but this is not in my Folder or File Folder in File Types.

I will post an HJT log if needed.

Answer:Solved: Opening any folder opens the Search folder

Start> Run> type: regedit and hit OK.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ Directory \ shell
click on shell in the left pane and in the right panel check that default is set to data value none.
If you make any changes, you have to reboot for changes to take effect.

Hi All,

I have read many, many other threads that address infinite reboot loops, but none of the solutions have resolved my issue. I am hoping the community might be able to help me identify this problem.

I have just recently replaced my CPU and MB with the items listed below. After installing hardware, I ran KillDisk on the HDD, which will zero out the entire drive. The computer boots normally and will load into windows installation without issue. However, once Windows reboots to start windows for the first time, it is unable to do so. The load windows logo screen will load, and approximately right before Windows would normally load my screen goes black, the system turns off, sits off for about 1-2 seconds, and then turns itself back on and repeats this boot process. It turns off and restarts at the same time every time.

Steps I have done so far in an attempt to resolve the issue but failed with no change in the rebooting behavior:

1) removed all non-essential hardware (CPU, 1 stick of RAM, DVD drive, and Video card were the only things left), and tried reinstalling windows.

2) Swapping out one of the 2 RAM sticks I have to make sure it wasn't defective.

3) Trying to install Windows on a new harddrive to rule out that the HDD was defective.

4) trying to boot from the CD (After the initial install had partially finished) to see if HDD was related in anyway.

5) Installed a very simple DVI video card to see if ATI card may be the cause.

6) Resetting CMOS and rein... Read more

Answer:One initial Install Restart, Windows gets stuck in a restart loop

Sorry you are having these problems. You have already done the most logical things. If it's not the memory, or the video card, or the hard drive, and the only things you have changed are the cpu and mobo, then you might wonder if there is a problem with one of the two. You could always boot a live CD of Ubuntu to see how your computer responds. Or XP installation sounds like a great idea for a test.

Hi all!
I'm having problem with my Video folder (which i use to download delete move read/write a lot of data). Every time i open it, it will take almost 60 seconds for the files to show up.. there's only 87 files (16.4 GB) in there. Any idea how to fix this?

I'm using windows 7 64 bit. Please do ask me any additional info if needed. thanks for reading

(in the attachment screenshot, it will take the green loading bar to full to show the files, very long time taken.)

Answer:Very slow opening a folder, only 1 folder happen.

it depends what you downloaded. If you got any unpaid or illegal downloads in that folder, you could have downloaded a lot of Malware tha usually causes a lot of problems on any computer.
Do you have any Virus protection that is updated? Did you scan your computer, especially that folder?

I just recently tried to install some icon's by the way of going to tool-> folders option File type tab then clicking advanced button for the drives icon. I then replaced the icon and when i applied the settings all the options on the right click menu for the hard drives changed. Now they had Search as what happens when you double click the drive. I know these strings are all tied up in reg edit probably but what is the string to get the open to work so it dosn't pop up a new window and makes it all seamless?

Answer:Opening folder=Search opening???

Question: Restart in game

It seems my laptop is overheating when I start up a game. It only lasts a few minutes, and then restarts. I have a cooling fan on the bottom and have it pretty well ventilated. I had this problem before, only the comp lasted longer. I fixed it by blowing out all the dust through the vents. I'm thinking mabye the dust buildup is pretty bad in there and I may have to open it up to completely blow it out. Any suggestions? Maybe a software problem? I have the box unchecked under system failure/automatically restart. Please help.

Answer:Restart in game

you should open and vacuum everything. I had a similar problem, but got it solve when i removed all the dust accumulated between the sink and the cooler
Be sure to adjust the sink correctly to the mother because if not temperature will get higher

So about a few months back, i get this computer that im currently using and play this game called Lunia for about 1 month [ive been playing it for a while on my old computer and ive had no problems with Lunia] and one night my computer just randomly restarts. Before it was restarting maybe every few hours...and now its restarting right when i load the game.

When i take off the auto restart upon failure button in system properties, it doesnt make it stop at the bsod as it did just skips it and STILL auto restarts.

At first it went to the bsod when i first took it off the auto restart button but not it just totally skips it.

It gives errors on about 3 other games, works semi-ok for World of Warcraft [causes errors here and there], and for Lunia, it just restarts my comp.

And ever since this started happening, my computer turns on but doesnt appear on the monitor. It happens when i turn my computer on after a few hours of it being off, like after i wake up.

And yes i am a computer noob so please state on how i can find and write my computer specs.

Last time i play the game, it run well with no problems at all, but after i reformat my pc and install back, the problems occur. 1. PC Heat problems.
I don't think i'm having this problems since i open up my pc casing and installed extra fans on it, the processer heat was around 40 - 42 C.

2. Power Supply.
I had installed a new power supply for my pc, but this still not solve the problems yet. So, the problems not because of the power supply.

3. Driver.
I had installed the lastest driver from for my graphic card, but the problems still occur, and i had disable the sound while playing the game.

4. Windows setting.
I know that windows xp having an option to auto restart pc while problems occur. But i'm using windows 98 right now. And i don't think windows 98 having the same setting as windows xp to auto restart while errors occur.

Answer:Opening program seems to cause restart

Hi Chipwood.

Are you still experiencing this?

As a potential fix you might look at uninstalling and re-installing.

If it persists then I would be reviewing the event viewer to see if any events are being recorded. If so post details.

You could do some simply diagnostics like run chkdsk with no parameters to see if it reports anything and may be even run
sfc /scannow.

When I start a game of solitare from the program Pretty Good Solitare a dialogue pops up trying to install a DLL for Paperport. I cancel this and all runs fine after that; it doesn't happen until a game is selected from the menu and then only the first time.

I have tried updating the solitare game, no change. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, no change. I have not done anything to Paperport for quite sometime, other than use it that is.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and how did you resolve it?

Okay i'm back with another problem after resolving my old hard drive problem less than a month ago. As of last night when ever I jump on to my game PoE(path of exile), the game will run for some random amount of time usually like 10-15minutes until it just crashes with no pop up error and then my computer just restarts with out displaying a BSoD.

I'm guessing I have some sort of virus in my computer because this is the 2nd issue within a month. I'm running on a 3week old hard drive and will be receiving another one from my warranty claim on Tuesday. I will be with out a harddrive for about 1-2 days so i'm going to try to resolve this before that happens but I have no idea where to start so If you guys could help me get started trouble shooting that would be terrific!

Answer:Random system restart during ONE GAME

Hi Label23, welcome to TSF...

does anything show in the Event Log relating to the times of the shutdowns?

Also, after it shutdowns the next time, check the CPU and MoBo temps in BIOS as it may be a sign of overheating.

Another thing to check is your PSU can use a program such as SpeedFan or SensorsViewPro to gather that data.

Post back any further details please.

Two months ago I added x2 1gb Geil ram to my x2 512mb Crucial ram. The pc ran fine for a month but then it started randomly restarting every 8 hours or so when playing a game. A couple days later my pc was getting the BSoD even if I opened Internet Explorer and looked at a couple pages with HTML (alienware site).

I turned off auto restart and I started getting the BSoD "STOP:0x0000008E". I took out the x2 Geil sticks and still got the error.
I tried playing with one stick at a time and I got the BSoD with each one. I ran memtest on each one for 10 hours each and one Geil stick was faulty.

I searched Asus and it seems that 1gb geil isn't compatible with my mobo. I decided to get x4 sticks of 1gb Crucial ram, because it is the same brand that came with my PC. I now started getting "STOP:0x00000050" nv4_disp.dll PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows, same problom after I got everything installed and tried the game.

It seems that the more ram I have in the more frequently the BSoD pops up. I tested each stick alone in slot one for 10 hours in memtest, all passed. I ran a Prime95 Torture test on each one alone for 10 hours, no errors.

I am getting many different BSoD's now. It seems random which ones I get. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, PFM_LIST_CORRUPT, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. STOP:0x0000008E, STOP:0x00000050, STOP:0x000000D1 mouclass.sys.

Answer:Random restart/bsod, especially when in a game.

Give your motherboard a visual inspection to check for signs of overheating. Look at the capacitors (upright cylinders) for signs of bulging or discolouration, especially near the CPU.
Look for pits on voltage regulators (small flat usually black blocks flat against the motherboard).
Dirt that has been blown into the memory slots.
If you find any sign of the first 2, your board should be replaced. Sorry.

Hi all,

My computer's been acting really funny lately, and I was hoping someone might be able to help me out since I have no idea what's going on.

Recently, whenever I play a game, any game, after a bit the screen will go black and the computer restarts on its own for no apparent reason.

The computer I use is an AMD Athlon 1.5ghz, 512 MB RAM, and Radeon 9600 pro. I have the latest drivers installed. I've also ran a virus check using avast, used adaware to scan for spyware and adware, and defragmented my harddrive.

It started acting funny only recently. I know there might be a conflict somewhere but I can't figure out what the heck is causing it to do that. Here is my hijackthis log to give you an idea of what's running:

Usually these problems are cured by updating to the latest drivers for chipset\graphics inc; DirectX, also there are very few games get released without needing a patch almost immediately to fix that kind of problem and I have to say its normally ATI drivers are worst for it (no I'm not a Nvidia devotee I run systems with each in, just pointing out a fact) the VPU recovery thingy I find causes more problems than it cures, but they promise the driver that's out in a couple of weeks will cure all problems forever, well it is 60Mb in size and requires .NET to be installed to run, just another 28Mb, hope the majority of ATI owners are on broadband!

The latest Catalyst was released 2 days ago, try it if you hav'n't already.

Are there some games more prone than others, trying to find out if OpenGL is the problem or D3D, ATI have a poor record with GL for some reason.

I can play world of warcraft sometimes for up to three four hours with no problems, then out of nowhere game freezes, and my computer restarts, i have a fan blowing into the side of my computer, maybe my apartment is too hot but, what do you figure? I do keep it warm enought that i can lounge around in basically nuthing but, any suggestions? I just built this computer been having this problem since the begging but, it seemed to go away with the fan. Well it did anyways, if i bought a liquid cool system might thats osolve the issue?

Answer:Play game equals restart

You do not mention what cooler you have on the CPU.
One of the best is here from Zalman:

but have a look at others as well

Did you apply proper thermal paste when mounting the CPU?
Stock coolers for an AMD64 only use thermal pads, and are adequate (only)
However, if you use anything else (if you have bought a boxed CPU) you void your warranty, according to AMD.

I have a problem. Everytime I try to load a PC game (ex. Need For Speed Underground), my computer restarts, without any warning! What can it be? My girlfriends PC just started to do the same when she tries to start The Sims2.
We think it might be ZoneAlarm because we just updated it, and the problem first came thursday evening, after the update!
We sit in a LAN with connection to the internet. We both have ZoneAlarm and Anti-virus.

My comp is:
1Ghz Athlon
2 HD, one 80 and one about 50GB.
As far as I remember my PSU is 350W

Hobe u guys can help me...

Answer:Windows restart when loading PC game!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If you right click my computer select properties then the advanced tab click on startup and recovery settings and uncheck the box that says automatically restart also set the memory dumping option to none.

Then the next time your computer crashes you will be able to see what is causing the problem.

Write down the error code and any driver etc that is identified and then post the results here.

I have a game downloaded from Big Fish Games, which I've been playing for the past year. However, now when I try to open the game, I get this error code:

"Executable path is not writable. If you launched the application directly from the CD, please run the installer to install the application".

The game is called Ricochet Recharged, one of my favorite games. I contacted Big Fish and they told me I might need new drivers. Here's the information that got from my error report:

Hi Linda,

Thank you for providing the report! After analyzing the report, I saw that the video driver was last updated on 7/3/2008.

An outdated video driver may be the cause of trouble you've encountered. To resolve this, I would recommend visiting the computer's manufacturer website below to get the most recent update by contacting their technical customer support.

To make the process of locating your driver update easier, I?ve listed the details of your system and video card below:

System Model (product): Inspiron 531s
Operating System: Windows Vista? Home Basic
Driver- Graphics/Video: Radeon X1300/X1550 Series

Afterwards, uninstall and reinstall the game, restart your computer to initialize any updates, and then create a new profile to start a new game. I've provided a link below with detailed instructions on how to uninstall/reinstall a game.

If you're still having problems with the game after doing these updates, ple... Read more

Answer:Trouble opening game

if the game has worked for a year without any problems before i want to say that it's not video driver related. however, games are updated from time to time which can yield compatibility issues. i would still think that the drivers are fine though. the actual error message itself states that the path in which the game's files are stored is not accessible, meaning the computer can't run it. since you're on Vista, I would try disabling UAC and then see what happens when you go to run the game. you may need to modify the application's security permissions or run it under another account.

im having 1.80Ghz , 1.75GB Ram

And when i open a game .. any game that is in my computer. ( Those system requirements are my computer able to handle )
It started to lagg !

This problem just recently happen.
Anyone can fix this problems?

[ Sorry for my broken english ;x ]

Answer:Solved: Lag while opening GAME. !

Typically this is caused by either old drivers or too many programs running in the background bogging the system down. I'm guessing buy your system specs you listed you have an XP machine. Check the task manager to see how many processes you have running. In XP it shouldn't be more then 40, Vista and Win7 can be up to 60 or so and still be good. Unstill any programs your not using and update your drivers as well.

Well after a few days pondering what the **** could be wrong with my rig, I've boiled it down to what I'm about to detail.

Initially when I first bought my LG 4167B DVD/RW BLACK optical drive it worked a treat, until recently where I've found that when using that particular drive my computer would just restart within a game, even Heroes of Might and Magic one! My new LG drive was the replacement of my BenQ cd-rom drive and I set it up just fine. I also have a Samsung cd/rw optical drive which works just fine when I use it in games. Now I am getting no system errors of any sort, I don't have the computer set to automatically restart so I thought to myself, faulty drive, hmmm I don't think so, otherwise it should've have started off faulty I assumed, so I boiled it down to this one thing, PSU problems, not a sufficient enough PSU, even though I THINK it's supposed to be a 500W Ritmo, which I have found to be a non-recommended PSU AT ALL, 'shifty' PSU so to say. ALso, when I shoved in my SWKotOR cd and the game started up, when I got to the menu the screen just went all fuzzy and weird and if I left it that way for a couple of seconds the computer would restart and if i quickly exited the computer screen stayed all fuzzy and weird, forcing me to restart or continue to lookat this weird and fuzzy screen.

Now I'm assuming this, the cdrw drive doesn't use as much power/ampage as the DVD drive, so when I use the DVD Drive in conjunction with my graphics card (which happens to... Read more

Answer:In game restarts/fuzzy screen restart

Well if you do get a new PSU, order one from (or your favorite site) and install it yourself. Installing a PSU is very easy. All you have to do is unplug all the old wires, unscrew 4 screws from the back of the case, rip out old PSU, and then do everything in reverse.

Now, I don't think a bad PSU would give you a "fuzzy screen". So, I'm going to say that would be a video card problem. Whether the video card is actually bad or not, I can't really say...but it could be a driver issue as well. Have you tried different drivers?

Hi! So my laptop has been acting up the past few months but i have been pretty busy so havent really got round to tryng to fix it. The problem is that when I close the lid on the laptop i used to be able to open the lid back up and resume where I had stopped, either in my browser or Word etc. Now when I close the lid and reopen it, the computer seems to be crashing. It sounds like its starting to wake up before all the noise stops suddenly and any of the lights on the computer turn off. The computer then turns back on after a really slow boot up and my webpages and documents etc have all been closed. Any ideas? I have the option of closing the lid still set to sleep, and to get around this slow boot up I have just been shutting the computer down every time I am finished with it. Thanks!

This is my lil' bros PC and it's been working well for quite a long time. It used to have problems like ATI CCC not running at all and some crashes during games.
But after deleting .dll 's and reinstalling whole complex of drivers I got it to work, i thought.

Latest versions of drivers, AMD VISION Engine control center running.
Acer Aspire m5021, quad phenom 9550 2.2Ghz
4 Gb RAM with ATI HD 3850

This used to run on Vista 64 bit but was downgraded to 32 bit.
I'm also not sure how much memory graphics card has.

The problem lies in fact that im used to english windows xp, vista, 7. but this one is in Finnish and just opening control panel
gives me a headache.

This pc used to pull COD4 pretty good but now even starting Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne tilts the pc, causes some green dots appear on the screen. Notification bubble pops "graphics driver stopped working"

not overclocked or modded

Athlon 1.4
ECS K7S5A mobo
350W jeantech PSU
ATI radeon VE
asus cdrw 52,24,52
LG 52X cd

I have been having a problem that whenever I open a game the system will simply reboot. It gives a loud beep, black screen then reboot, it then runs scandisk and often finds lost chains.
It occurs with a variety of games all that have previously worked on the system under 98 and XP. It seems able to do most other things without crashing but gaming is the most intensive test I give it. It runs 3d mark 2001SE fine and gives the same speed it always has.

The hard disk had been loosing clusters for a while so was replaced- no improvement, the ram was replaced- no improvement. flashed bios with latest update- no improvement

Anyone have some ideas?

OK, this is what's going on...

This particular game doesn't require much out of my machine. I've ran this game 5-6 times over just to see and it still ran smoothly, so I know for fact it has nothing to do with hardware (especially because I can still run much more graphically/processor intensive games). Just getting that out of the way.

I have played this game, unchanged, many-a-time pretty much every day, then one day it simply quits working. No update to the game (it does not update automatically), no change whatsoever. It'll just open and immediately close before any kind of content, color, or image is loaded. The whole process of me attempting to run the game and it closing takes less than a second.

I've tried spamming the game to see if maybe a 1 in 100 shot will randomly open it. This didn't work.

I have removed all my firewalls and antivirus, just for sake of testing purposes. This didn't work. Yes, I rebooted.

I have absolutely completely uninstalled the game, then reinstalled it. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

I have tried running as Administrator, or even just disabling the UAC altogether. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

It's an online game. Windows Firewall is disabled, all my ports are open, nothing is justifying what's going on here.

The two previous Firewalls/Antivirus I had were McAfee and Avast.

I am on Windows 7.

About 2 times a week, when playing StarCraft II, the game will crash randomly, accompanied by audio glitches, followed by Firefox crashing. This seems to happen more often if I have a Youtube video playing while I play the game. Also happened once with Ventrilo running and not Firefox running.

Could this be the video drivers crashing? I recently bought a new card, however this problem happened before I bought the new card, so my card is not to blame. I ran Prime95 for 16 hrs with no errors. I am starting to think this is a problem with the drivers and/or StarCraft II. Can video or audio drivers cause this problem? It's very frustrating.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

I got the same problem over the previous months when I play Football Manager 2011 on my Toshiba laptop.

The game needs a lot of CPU usage at some time (when I move step ahead, CPU and game create other teams results and create next news and so on) and it breaks after 1-2 hours of playing.

It gets louder and louder and thats all!
PC restarts automathically and I lost my time useless!

It might be overheating processor but I get this problems only while playing this game.
I can forget to play while listening to some music from Youtube or other source or having Skype chat in the background, then it remains only for couple of minutes and it restarts PC again and again.

Whats wrong ? Overheat or anything else ?
Maybe I just need to reinstall whole Windows or game (FM 2011) ?

I use: Toshiba C670-105 / Intel Cor i3 2,53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium, 64-bit SP1, 300 GB HDD, DirectX10, NVIDIA GeForce 315M

My savegame is currently about 180 MB. And of course my laptop is above of minimal requirements to play this game.

Any hints ?

Answer:Satellite C670-105 unwanted restart while playing some game

> Whats wrong ? Overheat or anything else?
Well, I think nobody would be able to say exactly why the unit shuts off without any further investigation.
Generally the notebook could power OFF due to high temperature and high temperature is mostly the reason for unwanted automatic shuts downs.

Did you ever clean the notebook?s cooling fans in the past?
No?! Probably the dust and debris inside the cooling modules prevent the fans from running with best performance and cause high temperature which leads to the shut down.

I would recommend you to use an compressed air spray in order to get rid of dust. But sometimes such cooling modules need to be cleaned professionally.
But try the compressed air spray firstly.

I have been having this issue for a while and just haven't been able to detect what the problem could possibly be. I built this computer about 8 months ago, and have had a problem where my computer will just randomly BSOD. This tends to happen about once a day a few seconds after closing a fullscreen game, but it's completely inconsistent. And then after that happens, I'm forced to power down the machine. I'll boot it back up, and sometimes it will BSOD again after logging in. This could happen after a few more restarts, or this might not happen at all. Again, completely inconsistent, and I've decided to finally try and diagnose the problem. I would really appreciate your help in solving this. I've attached the collected information. Thank you!

Answer:BSOD occasionally after closing fullscreen game and after restart

Hi. I have a problem with connecting to the internet after opening my laptop lid or after restart the laptop. The problem is delay in connecting even if i close the lid just for 2 mins, after opening the lid and wait for 3 or sometimes 5 mins then i can access to the Internet. I tried to solve this problem once by disabling all the security software but didn't help. I have Win 8 fresh installed and updated drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone!
I play lots of games on my laptop, but a game I used to play daily started acting goofy about 2 weeks ago & even the tech support people at Wild Tangent are baffled. I hope someone here knows how to fix this, as I'm going nuts without my favorite game to play!
I'll try to provide as many details related to this as I can, so here goes:
My laptop runs Windows 8 & Flash is up-to-date, (I thought I should get that out of the way)
I use the game console for Wild Tangent & all the games work fine, except for "Pioneer Lands". I played it daily for months & I never had any problems.
I played "Pioneer Lands" on 8/30/14 for a few hours, then closed it at bedtime, as usual. On 8/31/14 I opened the Game Console, selected it & clicked 'play', but instead of opening in its own window it minimized to my taskbar. I could hear the normal sounds of the game & waited for the window to open, & when it didn't I closed it & reopened the console again. Same thing, but this time I saw it in my odd! So when clicking on it didn't open it, I right-clicked on it & in the menu I saw 'close window' & 'pioneers.exe', so I clicked on the 'pioneers.exe', thinking it would open the game window, but instead it opened an old version of the main game console, (called "Orb"), that was upgraded several years ago. Even more unusual, the old "Orb" was never installed on this PC!
Weird, huh?

Hello, recently when I try to open games on my computer it bugs my system. For example, I will launch Ghost Recon and Chrome will start acting strangely. Scrolling on web pages no longer works. Links open an entirely new launcher instead of a tab, and my keyboard wont register the shift key. The "/" key registers as "?" instead, and I can't ctrl+alt+delete to pull up the task manager. I can restart my computer to fix the issue, but it happens every time I launch the game now.

So I have a tad bit of a predicament of which I'm not sure if it's anything serious however I am not the most computer literate of people, so any advanced technological jargon simply won't register into my brain. Anyway, whenever I attempt to run the game Maple Story there will be a pop-up from Avast indicating that there was a malware found called: "Win32: Rootkit gen [RTK]" so I moved it to the Virus Chest like it recommended and then deleted it along with uninstalling Maple Story and running a Thorough scan with both Avast and Norton Anti Virus, nothing came up. So then I redownloaded and installed Maple Story but towards the end of the installation I got the same pop-up from Avast. This has never happened before with the game and I download it directly from the official website, not mirror sites.

So here is the explanation. My computer both back and front part the analogs. The pink green and blue is not working. So I don't have anymore audio. But somebody told me about connecting a USB in my headphone. Now I buyed one. And I have USB as my audio. Now my problem is. I play games some have in game sounds, some have none. How will I resolve this problem? here's some printscreen. I already redowloaded realtek driver. Cleaned my registry.

Answer:No In Game Sound and opening dxdiag error

Uninstall the sound drivers you have. Download Driver sweeper to clean all the left overs from the PC. Reboot and then install the drivers again.

After that, install this Download DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime from Official Microsoft Download Center, for getting the sound back in your games.

I have a Lenovo Y460p and it's been randomly shutting off whenever I get into game. Whenever it shuts off, it's like pulling the plug on a Desktop computer, it blanks out and doesn't restart or have crash logs, etc.

I've done my research etc, I've been having a problem, I know it's not overheating. The CPU is normally at 50 C or so and the GPU never passes around 60 C or so.

Even if I let the computer sit overnight and then I turn on the computer, it's fine when using Facebook, etc, I can have multiple tabs, spotify, iTunes, etc open without any slow down or issues.

So for example, the game I play is League of Legends, and the client functions fine, and the game will load in, but as soon as the game starts (I normally tab out of the game and browse the internet while I wait for the game to load), I tab in and almost 4 seconds later it crashes. I haven't had this problem before until just recently.

I'm running a 120W charger on my laptop, so I don't think the power input could be the issue. I have a dead battery also, so I've tried to run the game with and without the battery, and the result is the same.

*edit* forgot to mention my graphics driver is up to date.

Any ideas as to what it may be?

Hello, I am a desperate person who just wants to play video games during summer. I recently bought new ram sticks for my computer hoping that my issues would be fixed, yet sadly, I still had unexpected crashes. I cannot play Playerunknown's Battlegrounds or Overwatch without a computer restart. The windows diagnostics say that it was an unexpected restart and I don't know what is wrong. My heating levels are normal or even lower than average and I am optimizing my fans through MSI Afterburner so I don't think overheating is the issue. Anyways whenever I play a game with even slightly decent graphics my computer just restarts, (no blue screen just restarts). Here are my specs:
CPU: AMD FX-6100 3.3GHz Six Core Processor
RAM: Anarchy X DDR3 (2x4GB) 2400 MHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950
Power Supply: 700 max watt (I'm not sure if it is running at 700 watts or not)

Anyways I need help and if you could point out anything wrong or any problems you could think I have I would appreciate kindly. Please help and have a good day

I'm having an odd issue when I try to run and 3D game on my PC, after about 5-10 minutes the image freezes up for a few seconds (Audio still works), then the screen goes to black (About a second worth of the last bit of audio played loops), then the computer simply restarts. There is no blue screen, and when windows starts back up, it does not give me the usual; "There was a problem and windows had to shut down" dialogue. However, upon reboot, I am asked whether to start Windows in safe mode or normally. The temperatures of the hardware are all at normal, so it doesn't appear to be overheating. I feel that the power supply may be suspect, but from what I've read, 750w-800w is enough for my configuration. I tried with a 1Kw PC Power and Cooling PSU I had lying around, and the same issue occurs. This problem does not present itself when I have run 3D games in Ubuntu on this system, so I would assume it is some issue with Windows 7. My chipset and video drivers are up to date. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Random crashes while playing any 3D game, no blue screen, just restart

I have a new graphics card, I'm relatively new to all this hardware updating, but I've followed guide and managed to install the thing. Problem is, I'm never sure if it's going to function properly. I updated the drivers to the most recent and every time I open a game I get to the first logo screen and once it is supposed to go to the next it fades to black, like normal, but gets stuck there, my computer is frozen completely and I have to hard restart. I also can't go into the catalyst control center. When I try to open it, I get a grey screen with vertical white lines. Sometimes it's orangish, sometimes other colors. The same thing happens when I go to a store page on the steam client, but only when it has the video player, nothing happens when it's on browser. I uninstalled my drivers and installed the beta drivers. No problem there, for a day, then it started up again. Then I went farther back (current is 13.9) and no problems, for a day, now it has started up again. Oh and it's probably important to note that when there are no crashing problems, the game runs perfectly smooth, no crashing, no nothing. Oh and last night I was able to play games, but not go on store pages. Help!

Answer:HD 7950 drivers black screen opening game

Did you completely uninstall the previous drivers, and hardware device?

I can say from experience that when I upgraded to a Radeon 7870 it misbehaved even though I uninstalled the previous Radeon 4850 card (yeah, it was a long time between cards) the PC misbehaved. Until I did a fresh Windows install, the computer would randomly crash and go to screens of various colorations. Also, the fresh install changed the WEI score as well, as it went up.

Maybe someone else will chime in, but my solution was a fresh install with the new hardware, which is easy because I keep all my stuff on an HDD, and boot with an SSD.

Maybe someone else can provide other advice, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it...

Answer:Crash with opening a game from steam and get blue screen

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Mi... Read more

However, when playing games, within an hour, computer crashes (always kernel 41 63). I sent the PC to the outlet where I purchased the parts from, they had their own technicians run tests on all the parts. Initially, they found a fault with the PSU, which was at that time a 500w EVGA bronze. They replaced it with a 550w Cooler master gold. Still experienced 41 63, black out and restarts. Took it back, I said I suspected the MOBO was the issue, so they replaced it under warranty, problem persisted. I took it back for a third time, they took it to their head office, did extensive testing and found a fault with the CPU, they replaced it. Took them 3 weeks to complete... issue is still not resolved.

At this point, my computer has been disassembled and parts replaced multiple times.

Lately I've been getting a "Display driver has stopped responding" warning on desktop for light applications.
On any game, whether running on low graphics (less power) or not, it will suddenly go Black and restrart my PC, then it will get to a BSOD after the windows loading logo is finished, forcing me to do a system repair which then lets me log back into windows. I don't know what's going on.

Included is my dump file using the forum diagnostics tool. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi rspkers,

A device driver attempting to corrupt the system has been caught. This is
because the driver was specified in the registry as being suspect (by the
administrator) and the kernel has enabled substantial checking of this driver.
If the driver attempts to corrupt the system, bugchecks 0xC4, 0xC1 and 0xA will
be among the most commonly seen crashes.

Please stop Driver Verifier from running and disable if you have not done so already.

That thread has some good suggestions for alternate shutdown methods. The intention of this tutorial is to restore pre-1709 (like) functionality to the normal Restart and Shut down buttons in the Start menu.

Since the default reboot behavior uses the shutdown.exe slash G switch - applications that are left open will attempt to "register" themselves to be re-opened.
