HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 loose hinge and split bottom

Question: HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 loose hinge and split bottom

Hello, The hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 has been loose (or broken?) for quite some time. It caused the bottom of my laptop to split open on the side which has the power button (left side). The laptop was not dropped or damaged in other ways, before I knew it I noticed the issue. First I noticed the screen feeling loose, but only recently I paid closer attention and saw the hinge was loose. Other than the hinge issue, the computer is in good condition and works great. I would hate to lose it because of the hinge. From reading the forum, it seems to be a very common issue with this particular type of laptop. Therefore I am wondering if anything has or can be done to help us who have encountered this issue. Thank you!

The screw on the back under the right side hinge has become loose and fallen out twice.I put it back in the first time nice and tight and tightened all the other screws. It just fell out again!  This is with gentle handling.  And it took less than a month to wiggle loose.Would using a little Locktite blue on the screw when I put it back void my warrantee?

Answer:Y50-70 loose bottom screw under hinge.

No, the use of Locktite blue won't void the warranty and is probably a very good idea since this is a reoccurring problem. Be sure to just use a tiny dab on the threads.

Recently, the left hinge has become loose on my HP Envy after having it for over a year and a half with no issues. While my warranty has expired, I have discovereed that this is a common manufacterer's issue for this product, so I was wondering what options HP offered for this problem since it is not the fault of the customer.

I have recently noticed that the hinge on my computer is coming loose, and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if it will cause further damage? I would like to get it fixed but I can't find contact information except for computerized assistance, and I'd rather talk to an actual person. I'm not on warranty anymore, but I have seen that other people have gotten this issue resolved without paying, even with expired warranty. Would anyone be able to help me with this problem? Thanks

I have kept my Notebook with great care and have never dropped or bumped it. After a yaer I noticed that the right side hinge has become a bit loose and within 3 months it has become quite loose. At the moment it seems to be manageable to fix the problem but I am afraid that in some time it might pop out of the plactic body. Is there a loose screw that can be tightened? What should I do to prevent more damage to the hinge and body?

I am a college student using an HP Envy TouchSmart 17 Notebook. I have had the laptop for almost 2 and a half years. It is no longer under warrenty. The left hinge is broken and causing the platic to split when I open my computer. This is frustrating because I take good care of my computer. I have read about several people who have had the same problem. I am not sure how to go about getting it fixed so that I can continue to use my laptop. I have always enjoyed the quality of HP products but am a bit frustrated with the hinge breaking so easily.

Hi Team, I am from Sydney, Australia. I have purchased HP Touchsmart laptop in 2013 around December. My laptop have a broken hinge, which is putting pressure on the case near the hinge on both the sides. Seems this is a popular problem. At first this started on one side after around 2 years of buying this laptop. But now, I have this problem on both sides and I don't know what to do as I am out of warranty. Can you please help me fix this issue? I understand that my laptop is not in warranty but I've not dropped my laptop or have not banged anywhere. It is just an issue with the hinge of the laptop. I am sure you might have got this complaint many times. I wonder why this model has not been recalled to fix the issue. As a customer of HP, I hope I'll get my laptop services. I am ok to pay if I have to, but I really want this issue to be fixed. Hoping to hear back from the HP support team. Many Thanks. Cheers,Vinay

Hello!I bought my computer about 11 months ago for college and the past month it has been having some weird cracking noises when opening/closing the lid. A friend of mine told me to watch out since he had the same computer and it had broken off. I noticed today that theroght hinge is actually starting to come out and the base of the computer is also getting loose. This is very strange since I barely move my computer from the desk since it is so big, plus I have a smaller one that I use to take to classes so I don't mess with this one for stuff that is unnecessary. I wanted to know how this can be repaired.Thank you!

Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart 15" laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners.  Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case, then the fan stopped working.   I called HP support, and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty, but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear.  I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty.  I called back several times, and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between $300 and $500 for repairs on a laptop that I spent $700 on! When she came home for a break from school, I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from the fan (I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need) and the laptop stopped overheating.  Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges.  The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape, cracked and peices missing.  So (being the brain surgeon I am ) I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the case.  That fix has now failed. I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is (despite what HP support says) fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops!  Before this, I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops.  My... Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. I purchased it through costco, so I should have an extended 2 year warranty on the device.  Thanks in advance,  Alexandria

Please help - the hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1105dx split apart last week. I can't open or close the cover now, as it causes the top section to separate and pieces of plastic around the hinge break off. I've looked online all week and see many others have had this happen, but I can't find any instructions from HP on what we're supposed to do. I cannot lose my computer. I use assistive technology, because I can't write or type without pain. I have to get this fixed before the laptop breaks, or I won't be able to my work or anything else.

I purchased a HP envy touch smart i7 laptop in 2014 from Bangladesh. But after using it for 3 months the hinge broke off and one side cover is gap open where hinges broke. I was wondering how could it happen? As I didn't do any forcing on this.So I took it to the computer source the distributor from whom I purchased it. They told me it is not under warranty cover as the parts is broken. So I am using it like that for 2 years as PC. So I don't have to close the lid. But Now I know there is a lot of people facing the same problem. Hinges broken problem.  So I would like to ask If this is a manufacturer defect? and What is the solution for broken hinges?

I notice many people have had problems like this with similar models. I'd like to know whether I'd need to pay to have it fixed again, despite it being the same problem that was supposed to be fixed. Hello, I have had my laptop for over 2 years now. I have really been taking a great care of it and I have been more than satisfied with it until this week. One of the hinges suddenly cracked open. I did not drop it nor did I cause the damage. It really worries me that the hinge practically broke by itself and it seems as it is a common problem. I cannot close my laptop and I am afraid that my screen will get damaged if I don't get it fixed asap. And I really need my laptop for college and for work. I would love to hear from HP team on how to solve this problem quickly. So far I  have always recommended HP to my friends and I hope I will not have to change my opinion about it. Thank you for your consideration,Joanna

Hello,  I have noticed that my right screw connecting the hinge of my screen and base of the laptop has come loose after a while now. I tried to tighten it but it won't. I read a few articles with people of the same laptop series and it made me think that whether this is a manufacturer's defect or not.  There is also a piece which, by my guess, has broken off and is now loose inside the body of the keyboard as I can hear it when I move my laptop around.  Is there a way to get this repaired at a repair centre? Or a better and more precise diagnostic, as I am just basing this on what I have read and my guess as an engineer. Thank you!

The Hinges on my Envy TouchSmart 15  Notebook are falling apart.  The Screen is now still working but when I turned it on i got a message that the fan is not working and warned that it could overheat.  I have looked on line and found that this is a very common problem with this model.  The hinges are apparently just glued togather and parts break off and cause the fan to stop.  This is rather upsetting and frustrating and will be the last computer I plan to purchase with an HP stamped on it.  What do I do now to get this fixed ?

Hello!  I have owned my HP ENvy Touchsmart for Roughly 2 years and 9 months. The system has always worked wonderfully. But in the middle of 2016  I noticed that the two bolts next to the hinges had disappeared. I have never tampered with the laptop and never attempted to remove the bottom casing.  The bolts being missing has caused the hinges to push apart the casing and the gap widens on a weekly basis as I close and open my laptop. This started with the left side and now has moved to both.  Reading through the forums I see that this is a common problem and I would appreciate some advice on how to fix it, as a private repair would cost upwards of 100. I bought this laptop from HP as a refurbished model. Around the same time this started happening I began to receive an error occasionally when booting up from sleep mode that reads "Display driver failed to respond" after a momentary screen glitch and black out.  I love the machine but this problem will inevitably cause the screen to malfunction and the laptop to be unusable. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Richard

I have searched this forum, Google, and YouTube, but haven't found a way to repair the left hinge on my H* ENVY TouchSmart 17-j153cl laptop. The left hinge has separated from the main chassis causing the bottom of the laptop to pop out of the top part. Attachment to the screen is still fine. The right hinge has not failed yet, but with the extra pressure on it, it may only be a matter of time. I am just out of warranty, unfortunately. Does anyone have any resources for attempting this repair? I'd hate to break my computer worse than it already is by going in blindly.  Thank you, -Brian

I bought my Hp envy about 18 months ago and a few months ago the hinge started getting loose and I noticed that a few screws were missing. This was a few weeks after It had come back for repair for a bios issue and recently I noticed that the actual bottom plastic was starting to crack and eventually the plastic was sticking out and I struggled to push it back in like I usually did. Ive seen that this issue is extremely common with these laptops and most have said in the HP forums that its a design issue. So I don't want to continue using the laptop in case something major gets damaged. Ive seen in other forums that some users have had there laptops replaced but all im wanting is a quick easy fix. Thanks

Hi, It seems that others have had this problem with a loose hinge too. My screen started fading to white (with faint vertical lines). At first I could jiggle the display and the display would correct but over time it's gotten worse. My computer runs fine otherwise, but I need to use an external monitor or I can't see anything. I'm suspecting a loose connection but can't find a good video showing how to fix this. My computer is no longer under warranty. Any advice or help pls?

It appears the hinge assembly for my PC has begun to push the case apart, as the top is aluminum and the bottom is plastic, This problem is getting unreasonable. I looked online to see if there was some fix and immediatly found that the problem is pervasive, I'm hoping that there is a way to repair this, because I don't want the case to come completely apart. But, I don't want it to get damaged further, I have always used this PC and it just has out of the blue Started popping apart in the back where the aluminum comes in contact with the hinges. Hopefully even though I am out of the warrenty by about a year there is some fix to this problem, because I have an HP home computer that has worked perfectly for years, while this laptop in less than 2 years the case just starts popping apart. I am about to enroll in college and need a working laptop. So if there is any way to easily fix this please tell me, and If it is fixable at all If any additional information is needed please just ask. I found a picture Of somone with the exact same hinge problem with the back of the case, having the exact same effect on my pc

Hello, I bought this HP ENVY m6-n015dx Notebook PC   laptop in November 2014. Just two months back when I was in india laptop hinge broke for no reason at all. It was not dropped nor manhandled in any way. In India NO HP service centers were ready to service this laptop as this was purchased in USA. It has to come to my notice that broken hinges are common product defect for all the HP envy laptops. Please solve my problem ASAP.  Regards,Sanjeev

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

Answer:HP Envy Touchsmart Notebook M7 J010 Left Hinge problem

As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. I'm sorry but that's all the information/advice I can offer

I have the exact same problem that I had been hearing when using the PC for a whie, maybe 6 months or more, but did not actually see the issue until I had to take the case apart to replace a fan that had failed (according to BSOD). What turned out to be the cause of the constant clattering and the fan failure, etc. was the pieces of the base that ,once upon a time, held the fitting that the hinge screws went into. The aggravating thing about this is that I had a Care Pack that had just expired on 8/15 which I feel sure would have covered at least the fan replacement if not the required parts for the hinge. If anything is being done about this issue, please let me know

Kevin, As a direct result of your input, I have since been contacted by Shaun with the Hewlett Packard AMS TCO Escalations Team and it appears that we may have come to an agreeable solution to resolve my broken hinge and destroyed fan issue. Although it is too soon to mark this as Resolved, I am really happy with the degree of ownership that Shaun has taken with my concerns. I do feel that this will come to a positive conclusion and will be sure that Kudos are made to you and Shaun and others as merited. New Parts, including new hinges and top and bottom cover, all received Saturday (overnight shipping included). Many Thanks to you and Shaun for your help. You have restored my faith in HP. Thanks again for your assistance. Gary Nordmeyer

This morning, I picked up my laptop to get started with my work day, and was greeted with what sounded like a bit of plastic bouncing around inside my fan (quite disconcerting).  When I took a closer look, it seemed that the casing around the left hinge of the screen had started to break apart and separate, which is where I imagine that piece of plastic in the fan originated. I can squeeze the casing back together, but it only lasts for a couple minutes before reseparating.Unfortunately, my laptop is outside the warranty provided, but I did see numerous similar complaints in this and other forums, so I was wondering a) why this known hinge issue wasn't a part of any recall, and b) what I can do to get it resolved? Being outside the warranty is obviously a bit disappointing, but is there perhaps a kit I can purchase to repair the issue myself before it gets worse, or am I out of luck, essentially? I'll attach a couple images in a moment to illustrate the issue.

My left hinge has recently become visibly broken, with the top keyboard metal casing and the bottom black plastic casing becoming seperated near the hinge. I have also noticed the fan making rattling sounds as if broken pieces from the hinge have entered it. The right hinge also was slightly opening the case but tighting the screw on that side has kept that from reoccuring. Although I put in a new screw into the left hand side from enderneath the case, it has since fallen though into the casing or out completely due to the broken hinge part inside. I have seen many posts on here talking about a similar problem and many have been frustrated with the poor repsonse from HP who haven't wanted to repair the laptops for free in these cases, as this seems to be a design fault. I am no longer under warranty and do not have 100 + to fork out on a laptop which was roughly 800 RRP which is not even 2 years old due to a design fault. Is there any other way of repairing. Also, I had someobody look at this, and they say this can only be repaired with a new top case part number 720570-001.However, this isn't directly sold by HP at the moment, only through resellers and it seems that is roughly 180. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated as I am a student and tutor  and so I rely on this laptop very much and it is vital that it is working without issue at the moment as it is the middle of exam period. Regards,ARIA

I have exactly the same issue as 13 pages of complaints over two years demonstrate in the existing thread link below. I seemingly can't contribute to that thread directly so has it been closed off to replies or have I missed a reply button somewhere on the screen??? Not easy to navigate imo. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Left-Hinge-of-an-HP-Envy-17-Not... So my left hinge has been popping the bottom cover for as long as I can remember. I used to just pop the cover back into place and hold it carefully when opening the lid but now it won't stay in place so I googled the problem, lo and behold finding this forum. What is the fix?

So in short, I am sick and tired of HP. Impossible to get a hold of and I have given up on them. I have been forced to source other technicians to continuously fix the problem, however there is 100% a defect in the design because the bloody left hinge keeps breaking and causing the bottom to pop off all the time! Now it has cost me the breakage of my system fan so I can't use my computer at all. I, myself, am studying to be a lawyer and my family has 3 lawyers which 2 of them have the exact same problem. We are going to be suing HP for products liability. It is completely unacceptable that I have to keep paying money for a defect in HP's design and then not be able to get a hold of HP's support. And then be forced to fork out money out of my own pocket to fix the **bleep** laptop. Do you recommend any place that can fix my computer and is there some king of secret to permanently fixing this coz I am about done with this laptop! I am not going to continue to pay $200 each time this thing breaks which is every few months. Absolutely poor from HP!

My Hp has some problems with the bottom cover that pops open every time I open up my notebook. My Laptop has always been in a good condition, it never fell and I hardly travel with it. The reason why the cover opens is probably because of the screen that is to heavy for this kind of design. the problem occured  to me last month. I searched the forum, and found at least 20 pages of Hp-costumers with my same problem. link.I really what this problem to be fixed. It one of your most expensive notebooks. So Its realy sad for me that I bought an expensive product with a design-production flaw. I really hope you can help to solve this issue. I really need my laptop to continue working on it. The problem can only get worse. Please help me fast. Thanks in advance. Kind regards Dylan

I purchased my HP Envy 3 years ago and the warranty had just ended a few months ago. I now notice that the hinge on the left side had become tight and would not open properly. Upon opening there was a large cracking sound an now the bottom keeps popping out. There are pieces of plastic moving around inside and can be heard if the laptop is moved around. The places where the hinges are screwed on are definitly broken. The laptop says that there is a fan issue on start up which means the pieces are most probably stuck in there. I have always taken care of my laptop and have never dropped or bumped it anywhere. Now I do not know what to do as the laptop was purchased on contract at Vodacom and is out of warranty. I use my laptop for work and now I cant open it anymore. Considering the amount of money spent on the laptop you would think that the quality of the product would be better. Really dont know what to do at this point. A waste of money

Answer:Left Hinge of HP Envy 17 J151ei series popping out bottom of...

Hi,I believe your best bet is to bring it to tecnician unless you feel like taking the PC apart and trying a personal fix. It is possible that the pieces are causing the fan to malfunction. Is the fan still spinning? If you replace the whole bottom of case it can be quite expensive, but if you have local technicion he can try to create new anchor points for the hinge. Here in service manual on page 64 you can see where the hinges are located. It could also be that the broken hinge has somehow touched the fan which is really close and is causing it to malfunction. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762 If you need any further help let me know,David

I didn't really notice this problem until a few months after having this computer. I have been making bi-weekly payments on this wonderful laptop since fall of last year through a local Circuit World. I soon started to notice that even if I opened the laptop slowly or gently, there was this awful cracking noise coming from the computer. I had gotten used to it and assumed it was a minor thing, as I have experienced with other laptops in the past. It wasn't until I had run my hand over the left corner of the laptop that I noticed that the bottom cover had been starting to "pop out" or at least not connect itself correctly to the top cover as the right side did.  I have never once damaged this laptop via tossing, dropping or rough handling. This computer is very expensive and takes a lot from my budget, so I have made sure to take the most absolute delicate care of this computer, including handling and virus protection. Unfortunately, with this computer now being excessively harder to open than it should, and the damage that I'm afraid this left hinge is causing, it has become more than just a "little" problem to me, and I fear that it will only worsen over time. I've noticed that in another forum, a customer had their HP ENVY replaced, but I'm wary that I cannot recieve the same treatment because of my purchase throught Circuit World. I will talk to the employees at Circuit World about getting it fixed or getting a replacement if that applies to me, but for... Hi there, I have been reading many posts on this forum, and apparently I am not the only one with this problem: My HP Envy 6-1010sa left hinge has decided to go askew and it's making the left bottom edge of my screen to spit, as I open/close the screen. I have not read about any solutionsfrom HP on my fellow-commentators, so I'm not sure what to do. As everyone else, my warranty has just expired, the laptop is only approx. 1.5 years old. The laptop works totally fine, and the screen is fine too and normally I am really happy with this laptop! But I am really worried now, I don't want the screen to get damaged even more! Can anyone, from HP please, tell me how to fix this? The hinge is not broken I think, it just seems out of position and I cant get it back in position and it's pulling the screen apart. I'm based in Amsterdam, is there a HP repair department in Amsterdam where I can go to? It seems like such an easy thing to repair, I just want a professional to look at it and I can't afford a whole new screen/whole new laptop! Many thanks for you help in advance! Here is an image that someone else posted, mine looks exactly the same! (how odd) Thanks, Susanne

I have been dealing with a broken home on my laptop for more than a year. I just searched these forums and found ~70 posts all with the same issue. This seems to be due to poor design that never should have made it past the quality assurance engineers, having a metal hinge screwed into non-reinforced plastic. I find it reprehensible that a premium laptop was made so poorly. I am told by local PC repair shops that it will cost me $400+ to get this fixed. That's 1/3 what I paid for the machine in the first place.I tried calling support and was directed to log onto the support site for assistance, from which I was directed to search the forums. I thought HP made better products than this, but hadn't wanted to put up the money to get one to find out. Then I bit the bullet and got rewarded with a busted hinge on a laptop that spends its days being used by my wife at home, bring opened and closed 2-3 times per day. And now it seems like I'm going to get the runaround to get this fixed, or just have to trash an otherwise great machine due to crappy hinges. I love this laptop as far as performance and hardware specs go but it is a pain to open and close to try and avoid breaking the other hinge and essentially removing the screen.Any guidance on what I can do to get an actual answer or a case submitted to get any useful help?

I?m really sorry to hear that hinges of your Lenovo X230T had become loose after continuous switching between tablet and laptop mode.

Please refer to pages 67 & 103 in this user guide to see how to remove or fix hinge cap/ hinges.

Also, note that the hinges on laptops often become loose through wear and tear and will result in a screen that will not stay in place. In that case, tightening the hinges alone might not help resolve the issue. The hinges may have to be replaced.

Hope this information helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi guys, Would like to ask any of your beloved T400 starting to develop slop or 'play'  on the top of the LCD after opening the Thinkpad already ?

Answer:T400 hinge getting loose

The Thinkpad hinge are renowned for its toughness any play or sloppiness in a new hinge, means problems, even my old 4 year old already dead T42 have no play in the hinge whatsoever. My T400 does not have any play in the hinge whatsoever.  I had a hinge in mine T60 replaced under warranty due to the play, and now it is wonderful once again.

The right hinge on my M 30 is to loose. I have tryed to dismantle the keyboard without succes, what to do?

Answer:Hinge on Satellite M30 is loose

Hi there,

the problem is that you cannot repair it only by tighten some screws. If the hinge on this model is loose then you will need new hinges and to exchange them, the whole machine must be disassembled since the hinges are partially under the palm rest and on the lcd installed.

So, if you want to fix that you should search for an technician which can fix it. Better solution would be to contact an authorized service partner:

Good luck

One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other. As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.  Is this single-hinge looseness normal? Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?

Don't risk it and get it fixed, imo. If the hinge breaks, your computer is useless.

I have had my HP Omen for about 8 or 9 months and slowly the hinge is becoming loose on the screen. So basically if i grab the screen to tilt downward it will move about and inch forward before the grips the hinge and start moving. LIkewise if I hold the laptop by its base and tilt it back and forth the screen will loosely flop back and forth about an inch without affecting the position of the actual hinge. Please advice me on how I can rectify this. I plan to have the computer for at least 2 or 3 more years. Best regards, Scott Georgson

Question: T430s loose hinge

I've had a T430s fpr about 9 months and the lid hinge became a bit loose some months after I bought it. When the lid is open it moves slightly back and forth freely. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy way to fix it without sending it for repair and waiting ages to get it back?

The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi,So recently i started noticing that my hinge on my spectre was loose. Whilst i decided to try look past the issue and use the laptop normally, over the past couple of days the issue has magnified and i have noticed that it is at the point that when my laptop is closed. The screen doesn't align with the base.I haven't dropped it, nor have i excessively open and closed the lid or even for that matter used the 360 degrees tablet function.I am still well within my warranty and was interested in seeing as to what my options are, given the amount i spent on the laptop.Regards,Dylan

The right hinge of my HP pavillion m6 1035dx entertainment notebook pc. What is the most economic way of fixing this simple issue. I figure I would go straight to HP as, business to customer, to ensure a better customer experience that is more frictionless with less obstacles. I bought this laptop as manufactured refurbed and assume maybe the hinge was loose in the first place because I have kept good care. I plan on upgrading the internal hardware as well but I need to make sure that the hinges and rest of external casing is dexterous and durable. Moreover, I can't find a reputable third party that I trust. So, I am going directly to HP. Please reply to me and give what options I can use. I figured I can just send my Laptop to HP and HP fixes it and sends it back or if there is a reputable third party HP can recommend. However, I strongly believe that HP is a better option in both HP and my interests. Third party is just a middle man that costs more not only for me but as well as for HP. Thus, no need for a middleman and I strongly believe in a simple customer experience and customer relations. otherwise, HP will be tarnished in customer service. I can't even talk to a representative about my issue. At least, from my experience on the Website and is just forums. Please reply back on my hinge issue it is a very simple task and should be easy peasy on a two way road of customer to brand image.

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

I've had my Y550 for about 3 months now and everythings been fine with the construction of the computer. However, I bought this computer because the screen hinge on my last computer slowly broke down to the point where it was difficult to keep the screen in one position because it flapped around so much. Now, only 3 months in, the screen hinge is loosening quickly,, and moves back and forth over an inch, or several degrees. I thought this was a good computer. Now I'm worried the same thing that took 3 years to happen to my old laptop is going to happen within 6 months on this one. Is this fixable with a quick fix or can i send it in on warranty?

I power up my DV7 laptop but the screen doesn't come on readily. I noticed that the left hinge near the power button is not stable. It appears to be moving rather than pivoting. If I move the screen a bit, it comes on. Any movement of the screen causes it to either flicker or go blank. I connected the laptop to a external monitor and it works okay. Can someone tell me what might be inside the laptop that would cause this? Is there a switch or contact that tells the system that the laptop is open? I hesitate to try opening the back or to send it out for repair before understanding what I', facing. This machine also has a tendency to run hot. Is that the norm? Fan seems to be working but I put a cooler underneath just in case. Anyone out there have experience with this type of problem?

Don't know what name to give it, the display, the screen - the clear plastic you look at - has come loose on the right side so now I have dust inside/under that cover that won't go away.  I've found lots of references to bad hinges but no others with this problem. And of course, my warranty expired 5 weeks ago. Any ideas?

I've had my y550p for 8 months now, and I just recently started noticing a huge ammount of wobbling. I just called in customer support to send it in for a fix, but the guy wasn't very clear on whether or not I could remove my harddrive before sending it in. He just said remove the battery and a/c adapter. I'm pretty sure I can remove the harddrive but I just want to double check to make sure. Also, After my warranty wears off, I eventually want to be able to fix a wobbly screen myself. Does anyone know where I can find a set of instructions to tighten the hinges?

I purchased a Lenovo X220 Tablet through my High School. Its a great computer, but really built horribly. It is not even 7 months after having it, and my screen is starting to get extremely flimsy. I have heard there is a way to fix this, love to! Thansk!

Answer:Loose Tablet Screen Hinge

if what you mean by flimsy is wobbly screen hinge, then you would need to send the laptop in for repair.
