Yoga 3 Pro screen turn off after 30 seconds

Question: Yoga 3 Pro screen turn off after 30 seconds

My relatively new Yoga 3 Pro (4 months old) inbuild screen goes blacl/turns off after 30 seconds unless I am activity typing or moving the mouse around. The screen still seems to be on and I can see the back-light but the screen is completely black. I have to hit a key or click the trackpad for it to come back on. This happens no mattter what program/app I am using or even if I am just displaying the desktop. It will even happen when viewing youtube videos or reading a pdf. While I have not tried it, I am pretty sure it it will do this when doing a presentation unless I move through the slides within 30 seconds. I have adjuster the timer for the screen to turn off in Power & System settings (tried everything from 2 min to never for both battery and plugged-in) and have disabled Harmony Paper Display (using the Fn+Esc) with no effect. The screen just goes black after 30 seconds no matter what I do. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening. This is really annoying and pretty much makes the computer useless for work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the same thing happening and nothing I do in the power settings make any difference. It happens to laptop display or if I am plugged into an external monitor.

When my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro screen turns off (after being inactive for a few minutes), sometimes the screen won't turn back on unless I force it off and on using the power button. This is incredibly annoying as it means I can lose unsaved work. I have changed the settings so that the screen never turns off, but that means I could be wasting battery life. I would prefer to have this issue resolved another way.

Today while using my yoga 3 14, I realized my computer wasn't charging properly. As I was using it the screen shut off comepletely while the rest of the computer appeared to be continuing to function. As my computer wasn't charging, and the screen won't turn on, the power light does turn on as normally functioning. It's now however blinking orange as the charger won't work, and my screen continues to be off. Functions such as the light up keyboard work but not for long, is there any solutions to my issue?

Answer:Yoga 3 14 screen won't turn on

Dear Cxexcision,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Please try to

1- Force shutdown the laptop >> Unplug the charger >> Hold the power button for 20 seconds.
2- Connect the charger >> turn on the laptop
3- If the screen still off, please try to connect the laptop to external monitor.

Try the above and feed us back please.

Regards,
Joseph

I left my new Yoga 710 running. When I came back the display was turned off, but I couldn't wake it up again. I tried pressing the power button, but that didn't work. So I held down the power button to force a shutdown. But when I press the power button to start the machine up again, the power light and the fan turn on, but still the screen remains dark. What should  do?

Hi, this is my first post here. I've been unable to find an identical issue so I decided to post.I have a Lenovo Yoga 13 i5 running 8.1 that I purchased July of last year. Up until now I've had zero issues, and I have also not installed any new programs recently. I also almost always have my laptop plugged in.Last night, I put the laptop to sleep and closed it. Today, I opened the screen, hit the space bar, and waited for it to wake up. It didn't. I did a hard restart, and I heard the fans start but the screen remained dark. The cord was still attached and the status light was white so I have no reason to believe the battery was drained. I also attached an hdmi cord to the tv to see if I could see the screen on there--no signal.Does anyone have any advice? I've tried everything I can think of.

Hi, I just go a brand new Yoga 2 Pro (bought on Lenovo UK), which I managed to switch on and configure. I installed Chrome, Avast, and Comodo Firewall. It asked me to reboot so I did...and after a few seconds of rebooting the mouse completely froze. The touch screen still seemed ok at that point. I then got a blue screen (some watchdog error violation), which said the computer had to restart...which it never did...since then all I get when I try to switch it on is nothing, the screen stays black. I even pressed the NOVO button for 1 key recovery but nothing...I can't even call support as it is after 6 on Friday. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there another way to do a factory reset? Thanks in advance...

Answer:New Yoga 2 Pro - Impossible to turn screen on, please help

Is there no one who can help? Any way of resetting without going through the screen as the screen just refuses to switch on ? The keyboard and the power button light up and I can hear the fan running but impossible to get anything on screen...

I clicked on the shut down button, as usual, and i closed the computer. However, I noticed that the white blinking light stayed on, like it does when it is in sleep mode, so i opened the computer and it turned on, except the screen is completely black and I can only see the mouse pointer. You can hear the machine running but the screen is entirely black. Nothing shows up, no log in screen or anything, and if I push the off button on the side of the laptop, it goes into sleep mode. HELP!Also, earlier in the day I clicked on a link and it said that it gave me a virus, so I ran the antivirus multiple time and found nothing, could this be the problem?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Black Screen, won't turn off or log in

I just got a used Yoga S1 and I am really happy with it so far, except for two things... Firstly I have encountered a problem ejere the laptop does not power off or go into sleep properly. Instead light in keyboard buttons (fnlink etc.) keep being lit and the red power lamp blinks slowly. The laptop does not respond om anything except a hard reset (holding power button) Secondly I see that the screen has quite a lot og ghosting/burn-in, especially when I look at a gray-ish background, where previous applications can still be seen on the screen (outline of chrome etc). I have read that this is a common problem with this laptop, but I didn't really see a solution other than sending it to Lenovo, but it out of warranty so I guess this is not and option?  Hope you can help med out Best Regards Lynge

I have a problem using the Yoga 2 Pro with an regular external monitor while the lid of the laptop is fully closed. After about 20 minuts the cursor and other things start acting weard. I noticed that perhaps heat from the keyboard controlls the closed screen with random movements, just like as if I touch the screen. That means that i can use the Lenovo only opened, but on my clean desk I like to be able to use it closed (with my external monitor). So, id there a function to have the screen and the touch function deactivated while the laptop lid is fully closed?

Answer:Yoga 2 pro - How to turn OFF touch screen function?

Dear FranFlorida

Welcome in lenovo community

Kindly be informed that when you close the lid in any mode ( sleep, Do nothing, etc ) the screen is going off , as long the LCD is getting touched when you close it so it might be the LCD switch cable issue , but i would recommend if you can do the recovery and then check if the machine can work normally or not

Let me know

Thanks
Alaa

I realized that the screen of my Thinkpad Yoga does not turn off when it's closed. I am not talking about standby. I did not set my Yoga to go into standby when closing the lid, I wan't it to keep running and download/process/simulate and so on. Nevertheless, the screen should normaly turn off when closed to safe battery. I am not sure if my Yoga had that from the start, because I had the screen (because of burn in), the webcam (because of malfunction) and the mainboard (because of ongoing malfunction) replaced. So I can't really tell which and if any of thes operations changed the behaviour. Can any one of you confirm that their screen is turning off when closing the lid (without going to standby). Thank you very much!

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound.  After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard  is the culprit.

I just recently bought the YOGA 710-15IKB and after I got it which was on 1/27/17, I went to the product support page and downloaded all of the updated drivers and the BIOS update. I did everything as it was supposed to be done and now out of nowhere the Screen will not turn on, I can turn it on, the keyboard lights up, it seems to charge just fine but the screen just stays black, anybody have any ideas on how to possibly troubleshoot this, or what could have caused this?

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 710 laptop from Best Buy last week.    This is my 2nd Lenovo laptop. The other one was a Yoga 11 that I bought last year.   With the Yota 11, the screen turns on as soon as I open the lid.   On the new Yoga 710, the screen never turns on when I open the lid and I have to press the power button to turn it on.  I've searched and tried dozens of different setting and none made any difference.   I ended up taking the Yoga 710 back to the Best Buy store.  There were three Geeksquad guys who couldn't figure it out.   So they simply exchanged it.  When I got home and unboxed it, it was still the same.  I went back to the store three more times and all the other ones they gave me had the same behavior.  I actually didn't want to exchange them, but they Geeksquad guys insisted that it was normal, so they just kept exchanging it.  The two of them actually spent over 15 minutes trying to figure it out, but nothing worked.   The laptops were otherwise working perfectly. The Yoga 710 on display at Best Buy actually did work just fine.  The screen turns on when the lid is opened... I think that's why the Geeksuqad guys insisted that all 4 that I got were bad.... on the other hand, 5 of them had were manufacturered in three different months, so I assume they were from different batches? I had it for nearly 2 years,Lenovo Y50-70 Touch -2 days ago while playing games on it, I smell a chemical smell coming from it so I immediately shut it down just in case. The next time I turn it on, it was fine the backlit keyboard glow red as usual but no display, and now it shut down after 4 seconds (with the fan running) whenever I turn it on except, sometimes It stay on (but still no display and no fan running).I got no experience into opening pc and such, I I tried opening it up and remove the dust that built us by quite a bit and tried to locate where the chemical smell was from, I though it was probably from the Fan or Coolers as it seems more strong there but not sure. After trying to turn the laptop on a few time the strong smell kind of dissipate a lot, and smell weaker.I been having a hard time trying to pinpoint just which part of the laptop is needed to replace. So if anyone could help me in the right direction it would be great. I just hope it wont have to buy a whole new motherboard x.xAlso idk if thats helpful information, but the first year playing games was fine, but the 2nd year and the laptop kind of overheated so I tried to cut down a bit and the fans were making more noises than ever. Especially when opening a new game or google chrome.

Answer: Laptop turn on for 4 seconds (No Display, Fan noise) and then turn off

A chemical smell to me tells me it's likely a failing/burnt out capacitor...It would be best to have it checked out at a shop...

I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Win 8.1) 3 days ago from Bestbuy. Although I am not used to the Windows 8.1 desktop+metro, I accept this inconveninece. However I encountered a serious issue. When I leave it running in desktop mode without interaction for a while (about ~5 min), the screen automatically turn into full white, I can not recover it to bring out anything from the application display. However I can still switch into Metro mode (by the normal gestures), and applications and settings in Metro works just fine, without any screen display issue. I can enter into the Desktop mode but it simply display nothing, just white screen. When I click a running desktop application in Metro mode, it bring me back to the Desktop as intended; in this case I can very well see the taskbar with those app icons, when I move the mouse over a running application icon in the taskbar, it shows the application in full screen; however when I move the mouse up to the application area, all turn back to White Screen again. I feel it is not hardware issue because the Metro apps just function perfectly. Guess it is driver issue so I did many Update trial; and do came many updates, including a BIOS update. However this problem just remains. This is really frastrating, I have to keep me always interacting with the laptop. When I work in Eclipse and in the middle go out for a coffe, I have to restart the PC when come back. This is really unacceptable. This issue / bug does repeat... Read more

Can you post your computer specs, along with your operating system, your external gpu name Is this an external gpu or an internal PCI-E video card?

Can you also post the wattage of your power supply.

At a guess I would say your power supply isn't powerful enough to run the card. "2 seconds off" Is this a new card and what was the reason for the change? On the black screen error this sounds like a basic driver error.

In either case remove 'external' video card from your computer, download the latest drivers for your os and internal video card from the manufacturers website go to; control panel, programs and delete ALL video card related drivers then run this program.

http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

Delete ALL drivers.

Turn on your onboard video card in bios

Now install the downloaded driver for your on board video card, does your onboard work now?
EDIT OOPS! Welcome to the forum!

Hi Everyone,        I've uninstalled "Yoga Picks" from the control panel without knowing that they were responsible for the notifications that display when I change between different Yoga modes. Is there anyway to download it back? I tried downloading the one in the app store and that didn't bring back the notification. I think I also need the desktop version. I tried looking for the download at the "Lenovo Drivers and Software" page (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS038317) but it doesn't list it there. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Hello, Is it possible to desactivate the inside screen of the Yoga 260 to work with two extern screens without adding an extern graphic card or a dock. The 260 has a hdmi output but Lenovo provide also an adaptator that allowed you to connect a vga monitor. Unfortunatly when you use the vga output, the hdmi is automatically desactivated. That seems normal as the Intel graphic card do not support 3 screens. But what if you could turn of the inside screen? Can't we allocate the graphic card only to the two outside screens ? Thanks a lot and sorry for my english. R.

Your English is fine. I was hoping someone with direct experience would reply. I don't have a machine here with that chipset to test on. I have one coming, but it will be a while. I am not suggesting that you take apart your new machine and risk breaking something, but I am a little crazy and if I had this question, this is what I would try: I would remove the bottom cover and temporarily disconnect the LCD cable. I would figure that if the VGA and HDMI would not both work at that point, it was hopeless and give up. If it did work I would start reading about chipset options

SL510 was running and went to sleep. Upon wake, desktop appeared as it was left before sleeping, then machine turned off (hard off).  When power button is depressed, power light/fans/optical light turn on as normal but then shuts off within 3 seconds.  Twice when attempting to turn on machine, it displayed splash screen and began to load windows then shut off suddenly and went back to ~3 second on before off again.  Took battery/AC power out and held down power button to drain, no change.  Also no change with just AC power/no battery.   Have not pulled CMOS battery to reset BIOS, will try that next.  Any suggestions or keys to depress during power-on for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated...

I figured it out.  After trying everything (complete power drain, RAM out, one DIMM in either slot, HD out, with or without battery, etc.), I unplugged the fan and turned it on and it worked, displaying a "FAN ERROR" message.  I plugged the fan back in and it's working solid.  Power cycled it many times, sleep mode many times, fan is working as it should too.  Hope this can help someone else  :0)

Hallo everybody.

I'm trying to repair this Satellite A60-712; it came to me without power supplier, but I've found a compatible one and it seems to work: CC IN LED lights up and battery starts to charge.

My problem is that this notebook starts for a while, heatsink begins to rotate, all LEDs light up normally but, suddenly everything turns off after 2-3 seconds. I've observed that this machine has only a free RAM slot and have been noticed that it has an integrated on motherboard memory module; could be this the problem? Or is possible some other reason?

Could someone help me?
Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A60-712 - Turn off after 2-3 seconds

Hi

> it came to me without power supplier, but I've found a compatible one
Can you please test it with an original Toshiba AC/DC adaptor? Does happen the same?

If the notebook has already integrated memory on mainboard there is no problem there. You can also use the notebook without additional RAM module.

In worst case you need professional help from an authorized service provider. :(

Hello,I have a very annoying problem with my 260 yoga. It randomly, but very often, happens that my screen freezes for a few seconds. But in the background the yoga works normally (for example while it hangs i press the start button and after a few seconds it stops to hang and the start menu is there. it opens it while the screen is frozen not after it !) This is very annoying while working with the laptop and makes it nearly impossible. the cursor hangs so often its terrible. What I already did:-clean installation of windows 10 (formatting the ssd and installation from usb drive)-newest drivers through the system update software-newest bios-i tried intel graphics drivers directly from intel as well. i tried to open the taskmanager and watch the tasks when it hangs but it doesnt hang when the taskmanager is open for sure.. In the lenovo solution center hardwarescan i have no problems.Once there was a problem with the short smart-selftest but i did the test again and the problem was gone. What can i do to solve this problem? Greetings

Hello lenovo community, I am experiencing a weird problem with the mouse/trackpad of my lenovo yoga 3 pro (win10 64). The cursor would not react every 5 seconds for a very short time and then move on. This happens as soon as the laptop has a little work to do(e.g. a 480p youtube video would cause the problem to appear)even very old games (like stronghold crusadar lol) cause this problem. It happens on the trackpad but also with an external usb mouse (tried several...) Any advice anyone? Thanks in advance! Best,Jannic

I have a Yoga 2 11 that locks up after about 5 seconds once we log in.  It's a hard lock as CTRL+ALT+DEL won't even be acknowledged.  Earlier in the week it was working fine.  Apparently there were some Windows Updates applied just before the issue began occurring. We can't uninstall the updates (even if we knew which one it was) since we only get about 5 seconds of usage before it locks up.  After it locks up, it requires a hard boot via the power button. Has anyone seen this and know how to get it fixed?

And when I try to turn it on from the power button in the front it doesn't do anything. I've sent it back to the place I ordered it from(CyberPowerPc) 3 times and they send me it back with the same problem happening they have replaced the motherboard and 2 stick's of ram and it say's on the invoice they tested it before they shipped it to me so is something happening in shipping or am I being screwed.

Hi Millurn welcome to the site.

seem odd that they Would BOTH not work. Might be the CPU might be at fault here. I am surprised that it does not work as everything is compatible.

It also sounds like it might be the PSU. Can you get hold of another 400W plus PSU and see if that works. If so then you know what the Issue is.

hope this helps

For these last couple of months i've had issues with BSODs. I blamed it on the RAMs and returned them to the store. While i was waiting for them to return, i borrowed my brother's RAMs, and it turned out i still got the BSODs. Anyway, i fixed the problem a few days ago when i updated most of my drivers.

Today i got my RAMs back. I switched them out with my brother's RAMs and booted the computer. it looked fine the first 2-5 seconds but then it turns off and boots again by itself a few seconds later.

I've had a similar issue before, and it turned out it was my heatsink which wasnt proberbly mounted. I checked it, and it might have been loose but i managed to fix it and now it should be mounted correctly. Still, the computer reboots after a couple of seconds.

Ive checked all the cables to see it any of them were loose
Ive tried to plug the videocard into another plug
Ive taken the CPU out and back in
Ive tried to switch out the RAMs one by one

Do you have any suggestions ???
Thanks in advance.

Hi, All of a sudden, in any application, I can't type for more than a few seconds without needing to "reselect" the screen or text box I'm trying to type in...  Basically, the cursor will disappear while I'm typing, forcing me to click the screen to resume the ability to type. When the cursor disappears, each keystroke is represented just by an "error" beep... This is extremely annoying. I've tried to alter every keyboard setting possible from toggling filter keys, to unistalling the driver...  Has anyone else experienced this, or know the cause/fix? Thanks. Edit: Using Windows 10.

Answer:Yoga 14 Can't type for over 5 seconds without keyboard issues

Hi sethdood. Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model numer of you computer?  It should be something long like 20DM008UUS for example.

Just some guess to try to find the issue. Do it seems like something is grabbing the attention of the pointer while you are typing? something like when you are typing and someone else touched the screen and move the pointer focus to other location of the screen?

Can you check if it looks on the screen like you have random touches on the screen and the Windows "touch animation" appears on the screen?

It is just a guess.

Regards

Hi! I have an annoying problem with my Yoga 11s when I turn it on. I can use the laptop, fortunately!  Since I have updated the laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, when I push the Power button, the Lenovo logo over black background appears (with nothing else like the message for F2 and F12, or the round hourglass). After few seconds (2-4), the laptop turns off. When I push the Power button again, the computer starts normally. I have tried to update drivers from Lenovo website for video card and chipset. But it didn't change the situation at all. Thank you for your help!

I had previously hooked this up to my big screen via the hdmi.  The next morning I went to turn it on and got nothing.  Holding the power button down with power plugged in, not plugged in any combination for 1 - 120 seconds produces the same exact result.  The little light on the " i " lights up for exactly 4 seconds and then nothing.  I have tried a different power cord and get the exact same result.  I have tried using the emergency reset with a needle on the back of the device...same result. Any help would be great.

Answer:Yoga won't boot. Red light comes on for 4 seconds no blink.

Can you clarify when you say it "lights up for exactly 4 seconds", is it a solid light or a blinking light?

Hei i bought refurbished Yoga 710-14IKB and it's mouse touchbad was freezing whole computer for 1-2 seconds. Sometime more often, then less. Here is the videohttps://www.online.ee/sharefile.php?shareid=d6cb4521-7c42-4acd-8559-eb0d883d7138(online.ee is my local email and cloud provider) I update bios and all driver, and after that was everything ok for 4 days. Today it start again. It's now a lot less but it still is. I have tried change mouse seting even buting palmTracking to minimum, but the problem has not disappeared. It seems to be a ELANtech touchbad, at least elan touchbad drivers have installid this computer  and it's only touchbad drivers that lenovo suport page give for this laptop. Any idea how to get rid of that problem ?????

Answer:Yoga 710 touchbad freezes whole computer for 1-2 seconds

Hello LillekeThanks for using the Lenovo forums. Are you certain it is the touchpad that is causing this?

Try to download the Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit.
Also, Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello... let me state the problem.

Problem: Computer shuts down randomly. I press the power switch, but it does not turn the computer on. I have to wait a while and press power switch, and it turns on, or I switch the voltage switch (red switch) on the back of the PSU a few times, press power, switch voltage switch back to 110V and then power switch and it turns on normally. (Probably not good for it) It then runs for like 1 hour --> 1 day and turns off randomly again, where i must repeat.

Reason?: I use to never leave my computer on for longer than a day. I never downloaded anything large for it to be left on overnight. During chirstmas I got a Dual Layer DVD-Burner and installed that. I have been leaving my computer on for weeks at a time downloading large files now. Everything was fine for about 3 weeks. Near the end of Janurary it first happened. I didn't think much about it, just turned it back on and it worked fine. About 2 weeks after that it occured again: Now it happens pretty much every day with the added bonus of the power switch not responding for about 1 --> 5 mins.

Possible Problem: The thing I find most insteresting is the fact that after it shut's down, it will not start up for about 1 mins (power switch doesn't respond for a little bit). I can not tell if it is because:
1) I started leaving my computer on for weeks at a time and now Mobo is burning out or PSU?
2) Because I installed the Dual Layer DVD-Burner, and ... Read more

Answer:Computer doesn't turn on for a few seconds? PSU Problem?

Sounds like it could be the PSU. I had similar problems in getting the bugger to start up and swapping out the PSU seemed to fix it. I've also had problems with the powerup button getting stuck and causing similar symptoms, but with it shutting down my guess would be PSU. Good luck!

built my computer over 4 years ago, woke up one day and my computer would only turn on for a couple seconds before shutting down. stripped it down to:

MoBo: Soyo Dragon Plus 2 (ATX, 478 socket)
PSU: 350w w/ X-dreamer case
CPU: 2.6Ghz Intel P4

still had same problem. replaced PSU w/ 400w, same problem, replaced CPU w/ 2.4Ghz P4, same problem. thought it was a bad CPU because when start it up w/o the 4 pin connecter plugged into the motherboard, it runs the fans w/o powering down.

what am i missing?

Just aquired an Inspiron 5759 which is great and does everything I want apart from one thing - it takes an eternity (10 seconds) to show anything on the screen and as it doesn't have a power light I thought it wasn't turning on the first few times I pressed the power button so obviously pressed it more times than I should have!
I have seen the thread about switching the light at the front to show the HDD activity but as you have to press the fn and H key every time you turn it on it doesn't really help.
This is a real issue for me so is there any way to make it boot quicker?

Answer:5759 takes 10 seconds to turn on-is that an issue?

* Are you booting with the AC adapter connected to the 2015 laptop?* Disconnect all external peripherals (USB hard drive, USB keys, printer, etc.) from the laptop to see if the boot time is faster* The front left LED also indicates power and battery status. You can also turn on Caps Lock LED to verify that the system is on

It just keeps beeping every five seconds. Help!!  There were no error messages before I turned off my laptop and nothing like this has ever happen.

Can someone tell me if there is something wrong with my X240. It has always done this so I am not sure if it is normal, but I never had this issue on older X series laptops. When I press the power button, if the machine was either shutdown, or hibernating, it takes 20 seconds before the Lenovo logo shows and it starts doing anything. Then it boots windows in seconds (I have an SSD) and I have no issues. Is this normal? It does not seem normal to me. I already upgraded the BIOS to latest. It doesn't matter which operating system I have installed. The BIOS is also set to quick boot. Enabling or disabling secure boot or UEFI mode does not do anything. Thanks

I bought my yoga 2 13 in November 2014. It has worked well till last week. Now it freezes for 10-20 seconds on the simplest click to another window. I got an error xode 0xc00021a. I rebooted and it seems to be working but occasionally it freezes. I noticed my SSD space was low at 16GB so I deleted files and got it back to 32GB but the freezing still continues. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Rajesh

Answer:error code 0xc000021a and freezing for a few seconds on yoga 2 13

Hi rajeshprasad1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Error 0xc000021a  may be a system file error on base check but may also hide underlying issue  like bad sectors or drive. On other scenarios , this error can cause system not to boot to Windows .

Best that you take time to back up everything that is important or if that would be hard, try to get data recovery tech / center to slave the harddrive for the back up if possible and have then run a harddrive diagnostics at the same time.

Would it work ok on safe mode?
Would you be able to run individual Storage test using this link .

Update us how it goes .

Hello everyone!Help me solve my problem with the Lenovo Yoga 13.I use Yoga 13 about 4 months. Usually do not turn it off, just close the top cover and Lenovo Yoga goes into standby mode. Yesterday, I decided to include Yoga. I had it in standby mode, but I instead of any key on the keyboard, pressed the power button. As a result, I have the screen lit up sign - Please enter your passphrase in 3900 seconds. A lower press 1 to enter passphrase, press 2 to enter server recovery token. After the completion time, the laptop is turned off. I understand that yoga asks me for passwords! But I do not know what I have to enter the password. Allow the battery calibration to completely finish. It may take up to 12hours to finish. Another thing to consider is to turn power off at the wallbefore removing power cable to computer. Also, connect the cable to thecomputer before powering on at the wall. I believe your battery willrecover.

Hey there, everyone.I've got this 2 year old ThinkPad Yoga 12 that was working fine one day, and then won't boot at all the next. No screen activity, no backlight on keyboard, nothing except for a solid light on the "i" and then nothing. I've tried taking out both batteries, I've tried all kinds of combos of power button pushing, and I tried the reset switch. That caused the light to blink three times and now it's not doing anything. It does blink when I put the power cord in. Is my mobo borked, or is there something I haven't tried? Thank you!!!

Does anyone else have an issue where sometimes when resuming from sleep, everything is really slow for 10-20 seconds, including mouse movement which becomes laggy/stuttery and clicking on this.  After about 20 seconds, it goes back to normal and all is fine, but it's really annoying as it happens about half the time I resume from sleep. Windows is fully up to date, as are all drivers, including the Intel HD graphics drivers.   Is it the CPU/GPU throttling?  or the Lenovo power manager applying the chosen profile? Really like to get to the bottom of it, as that's my only current gripe with the otherwise awesome machine.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Sometimes stutters after resuming from sleep for approx 10-20 seconds

You can run the task manager sorted by CPU utilization (clcik on the CPU column header) such that it is visable on the sreen then go into and out of sleep and see if there is a specific task or tasks that are using most of your CPU. My system uses ~10% CPU for 10 or so seconds when resuming from sleep, but I don't see any impact to responsiveness.

When was the last time you charged it?
If the battery was severely depleted it can take a good 2-3 hours of the vibrating before it actually starts up. Just leave plugged in using a wall adapter (not computer)

Hey guys, I really need some help here! My laptop is not turning on. The power light turns on for a few seconds but then it turns off again. The fan doesn't turn on either. I know it's not the battery because I switched the battery out with my brother;s and it's still not working. I also tried to just put it on the charger and it doesn't work then either! Of course my laptop is no longer in warranty so please help me out!!

Answer:Laptop won't turn on but the power light stays on for a few seconds

Hi E. Trader,
Welcome to the Community.
Remove any peripheral devices that are connected to the computer.
Please unplug the battery and the adaptor, press and hold power button for 10 seconds and then plugin the adaptor and turn on the computer. If you get light on the power button, we would be able to run a test on the computer to isolate the issue. Instructions on how to run the test are mentioned on the link below:
http://dell.to/i5zbDR
During the test you would get a screen with solid colors and that time please press “Y”. The test result should be an error code or beeps (if nothings come up on the screen).
If there is no light on the laptop, system board needs replacement.

Hi There! I am owning a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and have been trying to connect it to different external monitors in the past, almost always experiencing issues with the screen fading black after some seconds. This time I am connecting a Samsung S22D300HY to my Yoga 2 Pro via a VGA wire + a VGA to Micro-HDMI wire. After connecting, the external screen works accordingly for a couple of seconds and then turns black after the word "Analog" pops up. My roommate also has a Yoga 2 Pro and when we were testing the same external monitor with his Yoga 2 Pro, everything worked accordingly. I have been trying to find a solution for this problem for months now and could not find anything that would help. I updated the BIOS, cut the wire so it can be plugged deeper, but still am facing the problem. If anyone of you knows a possible solution, I would be very happy to hear it. Working with an external monitor is crucial to me and I would be so relieved if I could fix this. All the best,sp4nki

No Solution?  I now bought an extra VGA to USB adapter. The external monitor now shows an image, but in 800x600 resolution, which is total crap. I'd be soooo happy if there would be a way to fix this..

Since the Z500 is not supported and by the fact that Win 10 might run at one time. The issue might be due to a recent update of Windows. Try restoring to a previous date where you think you do not have any issues at all.

I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.

Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.

Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.

I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.

I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.

I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.
OK what do I do now

Answer:I press Alt+Enter DOS screen.opens 2 full screen then go small in a couple of seconds

You can download PowerCmd and use CTRL+ENTER to test its full screen mode.

I have an HP AIO Envy Recline computer . Every once in a while the screen turns off for a second or two then it comes back on as if nothing has happened . The time interval between instances is very random . Does not happen every session . I remember this did not happen when the computer was running Windows 8.1 but happens after I upgraded to Window 10. Most of the time if it occurs , it will happen within a 5 mins or so of the computer waking up from sleep . My computer is never turned off , I just put it to sleep whenever I am not using it.

Any ideas what might be causing it? I keep the computer updated as required including drivers if advised by HP .

Hi people, i've just registered to this forum to ask you about this, Since i've made a registry defrag with TuneUp Utilities (which probably has gone wrong), when i reset the computer, and I logon to my user, it shows a black screen, then back at the logon screen. If I do it again, the user doesn't show up anymore!
It happened three times already, i had to make new users, and i'm sick of it. Any ideas of what could it be?

Answer:Black screen after login for some seconds, then back at logon screen!

Welcome!

Yet another case of registry defraggers causing harm. In the future, you know now to stay far away from them.

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before TuneUp utilities. If that doesn't work, it will be time for a repair install.

Good luck!

Hi there,
I have a DOS program, once I could open the DOS screen up to full size to use it, by pressing Alt+ENTER keys, after I am finished using it, I press Alt+Enter again to revert to windows XP normal screen.

But, something has happened and now when I do it, the screen opens to full size, but, after a few seconds it automatically reverts back to the windows screen. It won't stay in the DOS screen.

I have Windows XP Pro running on a Gigabyte 2.8GB motherboard with 512 Meg of ram. My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 753s

I know there are utilities programs like DosBox out there that are designed to open a dos box, but I don't want to install it until my normal XP setup is working OK. Can someone help me please?

Answer:DOS box expands to full screen then reverts to small screen within seconds

hello& welcome to TSF,

now this is just for starters for trouble shooting

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

-----------------------------------
also
-----------------------------------
do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

My laptop Dell Inspiron 15R 5520(Core i3 2370M 6GB ram win 7 64bit)  worked perfectly from Nov2012-April2016.

Now the screen started flickering and jumping since a few days and there's a white dotted line that appears along the top of the screen that starts the minute there is any kind of display.
How do I figure out if the inverter on the screen is faulty or if it's the screen cable or the whole screen itself?
To satisfy my curiosity I opened up my laptop to find that the lcd cable was badly crushed under the screen hinge (definitely , a design/manufacturing issue! Will dell take responsibility?), and each time the screen was shut/open there was substantial pressure on the cable was what I noticed.
Unfortunately I'm out of warranty and I don't know what to do.
Please advise on fixing this issue.

Answer:My Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 screen suddenly started flickering and the screen jumps 1inch every couple of seconds and is very annoying.

same problem.
I've already tried deactivating adaptive screen light.
seems incompatibility with windows 10

16 gb of ram (but im running 32 bit)

Like the title says, my screen will randomly go black and then after a little bit come back, or it will stay on and freeze and my sound will stop. No new drivers for my gfx card and i've ran malware bytes multiple times.

Answer:Screen either going black for a few seconds, or screen freezes and i have to restart

Re: Screen either going black for a few seconds, or screen freezes and i have to rest

Hi

very likely from your description you have a faulting application or driver, for a crash and then recovery, seems possibly explorer.exe is closing and restarting. Is there a sequence to this or just random.

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using? is it upto date update wise?
What make and model of PC are you using, Dell, HP etc?

If you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with networking) do you get the same random issue?

I would possibly suspect your graphics driver and do update that. If you then still get the same then its likely a running program you have, in which safe mode may help trace it down. So disable all startups and reboot and is your PC ok, if so enable and reboot one at a time to find the cause.

I recently did a Windows 10 update to my Lenovo Yoge Ideapad  11 S on July 16th and now my touch screen does not work. When I check the drivers for my monitor and touch screen I noticed the driver was missing. I cannot get Lenovo or Microsoft to fix this. What else can I do to get that driver back ?

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Idea Pad Yoga 11 S touch screen issue

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I've had it for a bit under a month, and apart from an occasionally sketchy touchscreen for the first week or so, it's been perfect.  I have a crazy job where I'm in a different location at least every week, sometimes every day, and my duties vary from teaching to materials creation to curriculum development to programming to IT. Unfortunately, I got home last night, and it wouldn't turn on.  Fine; I figured that maybe the battery was dead.  Plugged it in, and still no joy, but hey, I figured maybe it wouldn't start until it hit a certain minimum charge level (a la many smartphones).  So I left it charging overnight, packed it when I went to work this morning, got here, and... it still won't start. Indicators/symptoms: The only I/O that appears to be working is the charge indicator (the small circular light next to the power button) and the power button light. If I plug in the power, the small circular light stays on (white) until I unplug it. Plugging in the power also sometimes causes the power light to turn on (again, white), and it will stay on (regardless of whether it's plugged in) until I force power-off via holding the power button. Nothing else works/responds.  The fans do not turn on, the caps lock light does not light up, the keyboard backlight can not be turned on.  Nothing.  As far as I can tell, the computer isn't even on -- only the power light.  I have tried every hotkey (and other key) on t... I have a Lenovo Yoga 370, and recently I came back to it after a few hours(it was closed and may have had low battery as well, and would have been in sleep). Now it does not turn on at all, nor even light any lights when off-charger. I plugged it in, and the charging light switched on and eventually turned to orange then green. After leaving it like this for a while, I held the power button for a few seconds and the caps lock, escape, mute, and mic on/off lights all turned on, as well as the charging light changing to orange. When I let go all the lights turn off except for the charging light which returns to green. Any ideas what is happening/what I can do to fix this?

Yoga 2 won't power up, ac adapter gives no indication it is charging. Have tried removing battery and holding power button for 10 seconds, then connecting adapter and battery. Still no power. Cannot access BIOS to get serial/model number info for tech support and there are no labels on the bottom cover. Anyone else seen this issue or know where to find the serial number?

Hello all.  I have the 13" Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop. The screen won't wake up. I was watching Netflix. I closed it and charged it. An hour later I came back and now it won't wake up.  If I hit the power button the keyboard lights up, the fan kicks on for about 8-10 seconds and then it all goes black.  Does anyone know what is wrong?  Thanks,Alex

I recently bought my Lenovo Yoga 710-14ISK and i realised 3 days ago that it won't turn on unless the charging cable is plugged in. I tried it earlier, pressing the power button resulted in no reaction at all. The LED next to it didn't flash or anything. I tried holding it for 30 sec and nothing happened.  As soon as I plugged in the charging cable the LED next to the socket turned on. I pressed the power button and turned on the laptop without any problems.  Battery charge was at 67%.  I then turned it off again and tried to turn it on again without the charging cable, did not work. Only with the charging cable plugged in. Battery chage was the same after I turned it on again.  Runs perfectly fine without charging cable as soon as it is tuned on.  Help please :-)

Answer:YOGA 710 does not turn on alone

Hi. welcome to the forum
That is a very strange behaviour, since once it will boot (Plugged to the wall) and it keep working without being plugged, so maybe it is not an issue with the battery.  How long is the battery keeping the charge, does it discharge very fast? or works normally?

If it is a hardware issue, I don't think there is a different alternative than opening a formal ticket to Lenovo to check it.

Some idea that involve some issue with firmware is updating the BIOS to the latest available release: BIOS Update for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Yoga 710-14ISK, Yoga 710-15ISK (Sadly does not list on the readme if it fix something related to your issue). Please validate that this BIOS applies to your model.

My other idea is to update the Power Management driver (Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) ...), and force Windows to make a full shut down.

I hope this can give you some hints.
Regards

My Yoga 3 Pro 1370 is only 2 months old and now it won't turn on!! Had noticed over the past 2 weeks that the battery didnt seem to last that long and if closed the lid to put it into sleep mode overnight it would be down to about 3% battery in the morning.  Was using on a plane trip (about 50% battery) and got back to the office and it won't power on. if I plug it in I can see the charge light but as soon as I unplug the light goes off. NZ Lenovo support said I need to talk to US support for replacement due to hardware failure as I purchased when in was the USA but I can't get hold of anyone on the '1877 453 6686' support number. Basically I've got a $2k paperweight - extremely disappointed in the quality of the product and (the lack of) support thus far.

Hi, I have a Lenovo 80JH00LLUS Yoga 3 14 inch FHD 1080P MultiTouch screen Laptop ComputerWindows 10 Home 64bit OS Intel 5th Generation Core i5-5200U8GB Memory, 128GB Solid State Drive (Silver) Laptop that is brand new and only used for about 3-4 days, two days ago it stopped working at all. I plug it in and there is no charging light. I push the power button and it does nothing, no lights on the keyboard or flicker on the montior no sounds or anything.  Do notice that when facing the laptop in the open possition on the right back end side it is warm through. But no noises or any signs of it working.  I have read online and saw YouTube videos that says to remove the battery and press the power button for 30 secs, and while the battery is disconnected plug the laptop directly to outlet. After that works then connect the battery back.  Did this method work for others with the same problem?  Thanks, Brian Davis

My S5 Yoga 15 won't turn on When I press and hold the power button, the red light comes on only after I let go of the power button, and it stays on for only 5 seconds.Screen never illuminates, fan doesn't twitch or move. I've reseated all cables, tried removing RAM, moving the sticks around. Even with RAM removed, the thinkpad does the same behavior. Pressing the tact switch only seems to reset the system. I've removed the CMOS battery and main battery to reset the CMOS settings. And that doesn't work either. The notebook is just over a year old.
