Question: Dell Support Assist Support

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway. It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time). This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"? How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)? After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X"). I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none. How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi, Sorry if Ive posted on the wrong forum but laptops looked like the closest option. Yesterday I clean installed the Dell factory image using reset PC.

Im not sure if that means now that I don't have Dell Data Vault installed.
Is this anything to be concerned about? Im not even sure what Dell Data Vault does. Is there anything I need to do or will it successfully update itself later on?

Dell's Support Assist software fails to run when started from Windows 10 Start Menu unless it is started as by right clicking and running it as an Administrator.
If it started from the Desktop shortcut it runs.

So I updated my graphics card driver 2 days ago, which I always do each time a new update comes in and I ran video card test. After It was over, I got this error code 
Warning Message Error at pixel 11 5 :

Hi, no matter how many times I follow SupportAssist's recommendation to install:
Docks/Stands Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver
Chipset - Intel Serial IO Driver
Chipset - Intel Management Engine Interface Driver
and then reboot, it keeps telling me I need those drivers.
It did download and install a new Intel Video driver which hasn't reappeared.
Laptop: Brand new XPS 15 QHD display, windows 10.  TIA
PS why the ridiculous number of "I am not a robot" Captcha pictures and puzzles !!! :-)

Answer:XPS 15 - Dell Support Assist keeps installing the same drivers over and over

then i would uninstall the dell support assit. and manually download and install the drivers your self, you don't have to use Dell's support Assit.

Running on a new XPS 8900.  Whenever Dell Support Assist runs, a Blue Screeen of Death appears.  I am now experiencing a Windows Blue Screen of Death daily -- it appears to be running automatically every 12 to 24 hours..
The Windows minidump identifies the failures as coming from the address GenHC.sys+1509ewhich is adriver to support a USBSer device.  I've contacted the vendor to see if they can provide a fix, no new updates are on their website.
SO, how can I either get a version of Dell Support Assist  that does not trigger the BSOD?
Or how can I prevent Dell Support Assist from running? 
1)  Is there an option to disable it 
2) What should I uninstall?
Win10 shows Dell SupportAssist 1.1.6664.93 is installed.

I had same issue with Alienware 15 R2 purchased just 5 days back. Daily within 12-24 hrs BSOD was occurring. Finally got some clue in windows 10 Event Viewer and got it confirmed that Dell Support Assist was the culprit. I could reproduce BSOD by just starting the Support Assist application and wait for few seconds. Finally, I uninstalled the Dell Support Assist and Dell Support Assist Agent.

I have a new, core i7, 7th gen dell laptop and i recently have had a problem with it. When i turn on my dell, i see the black and white dell logo for about 12 seconds, and then SupportAssist automatically pops up. It says
" Hard drive - Not installed ".
When i click on the continue button, it brings me to a screen that tells me to press the play button (on the lower part of the screen) to run tests. Every time i come upon this screen, it freezes up and then shuts off my pc automatically. What do i do??? (Please awnser this ASAP)

This problem showed up in Dell Support Assist after Window Update installed several updates to my Win 8.1 new Dell 8700 desktop. I haven't done anything to install McAfee again. I checked Program Files and McAfee is installed once. I do not know what to do to correct this. I checked Windows Uninstall in Control Panel and it shows McAfee once in the list of programs that can be uninstalled.
Weird!  Does anyone have any ideas how to correct this problem? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Any help would be appreciated. I've worked with PC's since 1983 and have extensive experience in troubleshooting. This has me stumped though.

Answer:Dell Support Assist reporting two McAfee Antivirus Running at the same time.

Are they both the same process, or is McAfee running 2 different processes for different functions that get listed separately in Support Assist?

I have a Dell Inspiron 14R 5421, upgraded to Windows 10 SL. Recently, a lot of blue screens are occurring on my laptop.
I have observed that it happens every time when Dell's Support Assist application starts running in background or when I run it manually.
Is there any solution to fix this?

In the window that shows next left click or tap on the “Troubleshoot” feature.

In the “Advanced Options” window left click or tap on the “Startup Settings” feature.
Left click or tap on the “Restart” button situated in the lower right side of the screen.
Now your operating system should boot with the minimum system requirements.
If the system started you will need to move the mouse over to the upper right side of the window.

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem. 
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.  
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

And I'm so confused now , because Support Assist / Dell Online Support always give me notice " Updates Available " and the list was "Chipset IO Drivers" and required restart.

I updated 2 drivers that Support Assist recommended.    I checked them off and then d/l them.  Upon completion, I received the window message to Restart my computer.  
I then ran Support Assist again to check for optional drivers.  
Support Assist RECOMMENDED that I UPDATE THE SAME 2  DRIVERS that I just D/L!!!!
This is not the first time this has happened to me.  
Why did my Drivers not UPDATE?    My computer said when it was being Queued and D/L followed by to Reboot.

I've recently run into a "No bootable devices found" error everytime I try to boot my laptop, after successfully running diagnostics and finding no errors I attempted manually lanching the Support Assist OS Recovery tool. However, I had to authenticate my microsoft account before continuing by typing in my password. Yet when I did so I simply got denied with an error of "Can't pass authentication. Make sure your account's status is correct." I am not sure what I am doing wrong here, how do I solve this?

I'm just tired of this new computer already.  Why did support assist popup on a computer that was a day old.  Laptop got stuck when a new standard user signed in.  Had to hard power off after waiting a few minutes.  Then hard power off a few more times to get rid of the support assist at start up.  Then finally the computer boots.  OMG really hard power offs a few times fixed the problem.  I didn't want to go through the learning experience of see support assist fixed the computer.  OMG support assist caused the problem.
I finally sign in with standard user Dell pops up a dialog asking  to download and install new software.  OMG you are not allowed to ask standard users to install missing software.

So here I am maybe I return it the day after tomorrow.  

Later I've got the standard user that locked up at boot deleted and I've wasted 8 hours just watching the computer update but still feel like I should return it.  Maybe fdisk a hidden sector a say the hard drive is the wrong size.

Well, I can't really say it's a MAJOR problem as there is no threat to the system or anything, it's just one of them annoying little things. Yesterday, I updated my BIOS to F.43 after being prompted by HP support assistant. Update went successful, loaded back up laptop, and the update is STILL showing as not installed on the HP support assistant. I reinstalled it and it is still showing the same thing. Is this just a bug and is it really installed and the support assistant hasnt been updated?? thanks

Answer:HP BIOS Update for Intel Processor (F43) - HP SUPPORT ASSIST...

That is likely to be a bug in the HP Support Assistant. My product loan Spectre 13 shows a number of updates, available, but already installed on specific dates. You can safely ignore the updates without having any issues.

I have the above laptop and I just reinstalled OS with the OEM disc problem is hat I do not have the driver disc. I have been into my Dell and use the support assist to pick the drivers for my laptop. Problem is that it still shows a lot of drivers and many are not for my machine.

I did call Dell figuring that is I had to I would pay for the support and I was told that my laptop was considered "end of life" and they offered no support free of pad. But they did send me a link on how to use supportt assist to find the drivers whish is useless.

If I go into my device manager and click on the ones I need and open up the hardware info and number could someone direct myself to the correct drivers?

Needed are:
sm bus controller id pciven_8086&dev_1c2&subsys_04c51028&rev_05
unknown device acpi\smc8800
quanticom atheros bluetooth bus  root\btath_bus

Answer:Vostro 3450 Win7 64 bit Pro Missing Drivers (support assist no help)

Install the drivers under "chipset" -- starting with the intel HM67 driver, followed by a reboot:
Under System Utilities, install the motion sensor driver.
For bluetooth and network, go to "Original Configuration" and identify the card installed.  Then install the corresponding drivers from the link above.  DO NOT just guess or try at random - you must identify the driver and install the correct one.

We have a Dell XPS 9350 that has randomly been popping up a message window from Dell Support Assist saying that it has detected a failing component that requires immediate attention.  it then wants you to log into our Dell account (I assume to start the support process since we are still under warranty).  What is weird is that under the "Failure Description" to the left of the message it has "Hard Drive - Not Installed".  Of course there is no hard drive, it is the SATA and there is no external drive attached.
Any thoughts, suggestions?

A longtime Dell enthusiast, I love my Dell laptop and haven't had really any problems with it.  
But today the Support Assist self-test said that the hard drive had "failed" its test.  It gave the following error codes for the hard drive (ST500LT012-9WS142):
     WHD16-6GP  (SMART short self test:  "failed")
     WHD20-J2C  (Targeted read test:  "failed")

So, obviously, I'm just wondering:  Does anyone know exactly what this means?  And how serious is it? Though running a little slower, my laptop is still working....
Whatever help/info you all could offer, I would really, truly appreciate it (!).  I've already started looking into a replacement hard drive--and the cost is minimal, but I fear the aggravation of a full install of software (I've never done that).  Anyway, that's where I'm at; thanks everyone!  - Robert

P.S. This laptop is considerably past the expiration of its warranty.

Does lenovo has a plan to support  intel ac 7260 for yoga 2 13? I have read this thread. bios(v1.15) is still not support. And Where is old bios version link about V1.09?It seems can support Lenovo-branded  ac 7260 netcard.

The only supported card on this model is Intel 7260 2x2, 802.11 BGN .and the applicable BIOS version is 96CN29WW (V1.15)

 I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazilīs support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?

Problem:  I am unable to download drivers from the dell support website
Dell System Detect has been successfully installed on my PC.  It's icon is present in the system tray.  Inspite of this I am repeatedly getting the message that I need to download and re-install the Dell System Detect software.  No matter how many times I install it as the administrator, I get the same message.  I am unable to accomplish anything on the Dell Support Website. 
I have looked for a problem with the software on my laptop.  Sfc scans do not detect any problems with missing or corrupt windows software.  What else can I do to correct this frustrating glitch?

I am very concerned. My laptop is consistently taking forever to start and/or freezing. Is it possible to uninstall anything dell related? Or how do I fix it? I created a system report from the system information module if that would be helpful I can send it. The event log keeps complaining about the Dell applications listed below as reasons it is failing:

I am no expert here, but it looks like the Update service is looking for a Recovery partition which may hold the WinRE tools.  On my current system, that would be partition 4 but it could be different on yours.  Running the command below in an administrative command prompt should show what partition is configured for the Tools.

Have you made any changes to your drive configuration?  The reagentc info should show the same partition the Update Utility is looking for.

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that

All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

I got a DELL Inspiron 7559 in July 2017. The rear left corner is already pulling a part at the seam. It doesn't seem to be the hinge, but it does pull further a part when opening and closing the screen. 
I called DELL support. Even though the computer is only 5 months old, this problem isn't covered under warranty. 
Online, it looks like several other 7559 buyers have experienced the exact same problem. It seems unethical of DELL to have a recurring manufacturing problem and refuse to repair it.
Any suggestions on options to get the split repaired without spending $140?

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine.
Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost $39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Well I was using a small backup H.P. computer on the Net. hardwired and it was almost never used. So I knew it was a India Tech. support scam again.

So I am sitting here on my MacBook Pro which in my opinion does not have any wireless issues whatsoever, it works. I still own this ThinkPad with a garbage wireless card, and I feasted my eyes on an Intel 7260 but lo and behold, it isn't on the whitelist! Scouring eBay and Amazon I did find a FRU, but would the number of that FRU be the same on the Hardware list? Lets see, well I cannot even find it. All I get are Page Not Found errors which to me is a hilarious joke of Lenovo's support. What does this mean for me? Is my X230 at a very very unnecessary end of life? Should I like, fork out Ģ1400 for an "upgraded" model that probably won't fix most of my problems? My problems is money and saving money. Should i now look elsewhere? No, because I'd rather keep my money to actually FIX my current laptop's problems (the N2200 is a garbage card and would like to replace it with something that's up to date to todays technology but that isn't happening by the sounds of it) I am frustrated with my current laptop's problems and it's having a large effect on my studies. And possibly you can also lose customers by inadequate non-existent support and failure to give us the freedom to actually let us upgrade for those who do. For those who don't, more like.

Some how my old friend managed to upgrade my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 with that chipset driver CD I gave him. I don't know how he did it. I would ask him but he moved to Germany. Anyway I've heard you can run the setup with Windwos Vista compatiblity mode but I don't know if it is safe. Anyone know?

Download the drivers from the manufacturers website. The driver CD is likely outdated anyway.

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Edit: Warranty type: TPJ (This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to Depot service).Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now!  I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

I upgraded my XPS L701X to windows 10 - I had audio problems so reverted back to windows 7. I still have audio drop outs and stutters. I've given up looking for a fix and want to re-set my laptop to factory config.
I no longer have the original factory disks. How can I get a set of original factory install (windows and Dell drivers etc) that came with my machine in the first place. I had this laptop from new and have it registered with Dell but my warrenty ran out long ago.  I can't seem to find a way to speak to Dell to order a set of disks.any suggestions?

I have a dell computer with Windows XP home. When I recieved my computer, I never recieved my operating system cd. Now, I find that my windows is corrupted and I can't even get into safe mode without a blue screen. I looked up the stop error, and found a microsoft support page with troubleshooting suggestions. Unfortunately, most of them require the use of the Windows XP cd, so I couldn't fix the problem.

I called Dell support, and they told me I am out of warranty. They said that they can only mail me the OS cd if I'm under warranty. I don't understand this because whenever someone buys windows, they have a license to use the OS on a computer. The license allows me to reinstall windows on the same computer. I don't see why a warranty should even be an issue. Am I incorrect? Is my license basically void because my OS is corrupt?

Has anyone heard of this situation? Should I try to go after Dell for that OS cd? The idea that I have to buy a new copy of windows just to reinstall is foreign to me.

No, you are not out of luck. The XP CD, once provided with every Dell, is now available at the time of computer purchase for an additional fee of $10. The CD is irrelevant. If you know someone with a copy of XP Home, you can use their CD.

NOTE: There was most probably a copy of XP on your hard drive and a utility to make your own installation CD, only you didn't know it. If you can still boot to XP, look under All Programs for a Dell provided program. You may still be able to burn a copy of the XP installation CD.

You are licensed to run one instance of XP Home on your Dell computer. When you purchase a copy of XP, you are actually purchasing a product key which give you the right to run Windows XP on one computer (in this case, your Dell).

P.S. - There is a number affixed to your Dell that says "Service Tag." If you ever need to download drivers for your PC, go to Dell's support site and insert that Service Tag number. You will then be directed to the driver downloads for your particular PC.

From my research, XMP 2.0 is supported by Intel’s X99 and 100 series motherboards. I do not see any XMP options in our BIOS (I have the XPS 8900) but also read some reports by users here that their ram was automatically overclocked. So I'm under the impression that XMP is enabled by default.
I'm asking this question because I'm interested in upgrading my ram to 2666MHz which is shown compatible on the Crucial website but on Dell's documentation, all I see is 2133MHz.
Could anyone verify this?
The ram sticks I'm planning to upgrade to is Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666MHz C16. I thought about the Corsair Dominator rams because they look cool and price isn't that different with these inflated prices but it would help a lot if someone from Dell or experienced users from the community could confirm my findings.

Anyway all day I haven't been able to download the Dell OpenManage offline bundle for VMware ESXi 4.1. I've tried at work and at home with no luck. many thanks in advance, I have a Dell 525 PC (I know "why did you buy a dell") well to be honest i wish i never it is about 10 months old after 3 months it was sent back to dell with a power fail, it burnt out, they sent it back to me only for me to find out it still wouldnt work so they talked me into the f8 restart.Any way I now need to restart again due to software faults, I have tried to do the f8 restart but it fails to do anything!! I have then gone into the f12 menu and re booted from disk!! this tho leaves the old system still there. dell normally have a recovery partition on the drive. You have to find out for your model how to use it. It will wipe your hard so you lose all of your files etc. I have restored several dells and normally it is simply a case of following their instructions. Do you really need to do a factory reset? If you tell us the exact problem on here we may be able to talk you through without the factory reset.

I've purchased 2x8gb TEAM TED38G1333C9-SBK memory banks and managed to install them but my notebook failed to boot (4 BIOS beeps). After some research I found that this model supports max 8 GB (2x4) unless Sandy Bridge i5 cpu should work fine with 16. After second try the system have been running successfully for one day with 16 GB but then failed to boot again (after hibernation). Has anyone upgraded his dell 3350 to 16 gb (I found few success stories on internet)? Is DELL planning to make BIOS update to fix this issue? Any useful information will be appreciated.

Somehow, dell support software was deleted from my Dell 570 Inspiron Windows 7 software. I have tried several times to download but keep getting error messages that there is no software. It was working a week ago until I had to do a system restore. I have searched the net but cannot find an answer to reinstalling. Can anyone help me.

Disabling Services does nothing to conserve energy unless you have a ruwaway Process that is hogging your CPU which requires troubleshooting in other ways.

You should keep Win7 fully updated for best security and performance. Optional Updates will help keep your drivers current and can also be trusted and useful.

Use the Win7 firewall with a free lightweight AV like Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast 6.

I am asking for some input about Dell support. This is in relation to my previous thread on here "Dell Inspiron laptop slow loading" I own a Dell inspiron 15 series 5000 laptop. It frequently it takes a very long time to load web pages and when on a page it sometimes freezes up an sometimes when scrolling it takes a few seconds to move the scroll bar. It is very jerky when it tries to move. I have a intel(R) core(TM) i7-6500 [email protected] 8.00GB RAM 64bit . It is using Windows 10 Home and is a touch screen. It is only a few months old.
I contacted Dell support and they ran a long test and said it was a software problem and they would need a "special Dell tool" to fix it but I would have to pay $198.00 to have this done. I am a bit skeptical as to their intentions. The technician was giving me a hard sell to sign up. Do I need to get this service? has anyone else run into this problem? I took a speed test from Xfinity and another outside site ,Ookla,and speeds were Download 23.1mbps/upload 6.0mbps and 25.1 download/10.62mbps respectfully. Also I have a IMAC using same equipment as this laptop and it's readings were download 37.1Mbps/upload 6.7Mbps and for Ooka download 42.1/upload 12.37Mbps I have installed on my laptop an APP "networx" I ran a speed test with it and it was download 2.44Mbs/ upload 7.33Kbps. Can anyone help ? Thank you for your time.

"Legitimate" is a tricky term. Is Dell support legal? Yes. Are they malicious? No. Are they in it to make a profit? Of course. Do they often charge exorbitant prices? Absolutely.

Clearly, your computer is no longer under warranty. So you have the option to use Dell support, or take it to a shop. Think of it like you would your car that is no longer under warranty. If you take it in for repairs to the dealer, they too are legitimate and most likely will fix your car right. But it will cost more than if you took it to your local mechanic. The problem with the local mechanic is they may not be legitimate and may not fix it right. And they most likely don't have same experience with your make and model as the dealer does.

As far as your network speeds, I don't really no what your complaint is - or how you are connecting. You need to first look at your service contract with your ISP and see what you are paying for. Unfortunately, they often read something misleading (if not down right, should be illegal, deceptive! ) like, "guaranteed speeds up to xxxMbps".

Have you scanned for malware? Is your computer fully updated?

Received a 7275 today but cannot get the resolution to increase to 2560x1080 on my external ultra-wide. Unplug the HDMI and plug it into my old laptop. 2560x1080. The maximum resolution in the advanced settings are 1920x1080. Help.

can't access help and support from start menu or browser and receive error message (windows can not open help and support because a system service is not running. to fix this problem, start the service named "help and support'). i tried using my dimension resourse cd to no end. what am i missing ?

I find it frustrating that there aren't any actual manuals for my laptop, but I thought, at least, that the Help & Support application would be able to give me answers. 
However, every time I try to start it, I get the following:
"After a few attempts, Dell Help & Support failed to connect to the service. Do you want to quit?''

I've ensured that I have the most up-to-date version, I've reinstalled, I've tried everything I can think of, but no joy.  I did see another person ask this question over a year ago, but the reply was very difficult to understand (grammatically, not technically), so I am hoping someone else can give me some ideas.

Does anyone out there have a solution to obtaining Hardware service for Dell products that doesn't involve someone who doesn't, or barely does, speak English. My system (4600) has a noisy CPU fan. After a 48 min wait I spoke with a tech for some foreign galaxy, but couldn't understand him (her/it) and asked to speak to a supervisor and was refused. I can and might go ahead and order and pay for a fan just to get the prob resolved. But I have a service warranty and shouldn't have to do that. Is there a stateside telephone number that I can use to speak to someone who speaks english? I'm disgusted with Dell's service but love the products. HELP!

I used chat online with a tech on their support page recently for a DVD reader. Got good response but did end up on the phone and as you say it can be difficult.
First chat, I was connected in 1-2 minutes. Second chat, the queue was about 15 - 20 minutes before connection.
Hardware was to me in 2 days and fixed problem.

Hi Y'all. I'm back with another family problem. My mom has a Dell computer and yesterday began getting the message Virtual Memory low. I visited her today to see if I could fix it....Discovered when she reboots the "wallpaper" comes up after the log on but not only is she getting the 'VM Low' message she is also getting:

1. "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking license for this computer. Error Code 0x800705aa." And

2. "User Init.exe - Application Error - The application failed to initilize properly. (0xc00012d). Check OK to terminate the application." And

3. "Taskmgr.exe - Application error /same message as User Init.exe/".

So I tried for two hours to get assistance at Dell and NEVER got to talk to a person. No icons appear on her desktop and there is no Start button. I F-8'd a bunch. I tried:

1. Tried to take computer back to "last known good configuration"
(no change happened)

2. safe mode
(same wall paper but no icons nor Start button)

Does anyone have any suggestions. I couldn't get into Bio's......not that I'm an expert anyway but my XP hard drive crashed and I found this out by going into bio's.....maybe it's different on DELL!

I think I'll have to just reload her OS. Tell me if this is the right way and if I'm leaving any steps out.

My Store and xbox stopped working.  So I clicked on Dell Help.  Got message it stopped working but no way to fix.  I had seen online that sometimes "store" stopped because of Win 10 updates.  I removed the latest update and rebooted.  I got back Store and Xbox but not Dell Help. I still says "failed to connect to the service".

I just finished a two-day marathon that started with McAfee Techmaster and migrated to Microsoft Support.  8 1/2 hours on Sunday, 2 hours today.  The latest Windows 10 Update apparently had some problems, resulting in the disabling of the Start icon, Cortana, Notifications Icon and more.  McAfee could not figure it out apparently, and the first online, chat Microsoft IT support person totally failed after nearly four hours of effort.  Another couple of hours on the phone with another Microsoft IT expert looked like a success until I encountered another glitch this morning with my Outlook Contacts being missing and some kind of restore function returning them but then I could not sign back into the computer.  So, the last person I spoke with resolved that problem, and the laptop seems to be operating normally.
My question is whether or not Dell Support personnel are trained and have access to Microsoft command codes, etc. to remedy Windows 10 problems?  If not, I am beginning to think that a person needs multiple support contracts to handle all the various problems encountered by PCs and Windows Operating Systems - as opposed to Apple.
If I am correct, I would need the following tech support contracts:
Microsoft for Windows 10; Dell for Dell-specific problems; McAfee for security-related problems, and maybe someone else to deal with "all the rest"?

Hi all,

You have been very helpful in the past, so just wondered your thoughts on Dell Support 3?

I've started getting pop-ups from Dell offering me this service.

I've gained a bit of insight into it via on-line, but nothing really conclusive.

I'm of the opinion that if it ain't broke, then don't fix it, but i stand to be corrected and Dells package may be fantastic for all i know?

Anyway if anyone can offer advice i would be most gratefull.

Have had a Dell 1545 laptop for over 2 years now.Vista and 32 bit. In the past I have had prompts from Dell and have used their support centre for scanning, and downloading drivers, etc. Recently the message comes onto the screen- Dell Support Centre has stopped working, Windows is looking for a solution.
Is the Dell Support Centre necessary for me? One friend has told me to uninstall Dell Support Centre as it is not absolutely necessary. Correct or not. ??

Dell has a problem with some Dell Vostro 200 pc's which involves a black screen just after boot. The advised solution from Dell is to set prefetch to only boot rather than boot and applications. Empty the prefetch folder and in effect not use prefetch as it was designed for Windows XP, Is this a legitimate solution for customers experiencing this problem? I always thought prefetch was supposed to "speed things up". Any suggestions about this? Is Dell just blowing the customers off?

I have a DELL Studio XPS 1640 Laptop running Windows 7 - 64 bits. I am using Firefox instead of Explorer. I cannot run DELL Support Center because it looks for IE and I am not using this software. Anyone know how to fix this problem.
