I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Microsoft shows off PC integrated into power plug

They may be handy to a lot and even have very reasonable prices but I can't imagine myself ever wanting any of these.

So I've happily stayed with Lenovo for a number of years - I have a laptop power supply in almost each room of my house and in back pack. That's a total of six. My Yoga 13 is on order, but I'm getting cold feet:  I'd really like to not have to buy 5 new power adaptors for a total of 12 Lenovo power adapters, 6 round, 6 blocky, given that I for some reason I still usually have to walk to the next room to retrieve one of my six adapters that seem to randomly migrate between places under the bed, behind the water closet, tugged under the desk, and so... Is there (yet?) a  fantastically simple plug converter, round (female)  to blocky (male), that will attach with a strap to the end of the 20V cable of my existing converters so that each can serve both blocky and round needing Lenovo devices? I image each plug would cost $1 and that Lenovo would sell a bag of 10 of 'em for $10 as part of the customer loyalty program? /Lenovski

Answer:Are my many Lenovo power adapters (w. round plug) compatible with Yoga 13 through plug converter?

There no plug converters, and the Yoga power plug is not compatible with previous Lenovo power adapter plugs.

I verified the PSU is good.
I removed all drives, all cards, even memory.
All the fans spin for a moment then nothing they stop.

I assume the MB is now destroyed? A GTX 260 has two 6 pin power connectors, since the PSU only had one 6 pin power connector, I thought to try it.

MB is Asus P5QC
So is it dead?

Answer:Plug in GTX 260, hooked up one 6 pin power plug, motherboard wont post

Did you read the GTX 260 manual to see if it has to have the two connectors on?
This is an old MB, so it has a story. Tell us how did you get it and what memory, GPU etc it has before.
With no memory it won't boot. Do you have a speaker connected to the MB so you can hear the beeps when you turn it on?
Witch power supply you have? GTX 260 requires 500W as minimum.

I have an external hard drive Seagate backup plus 1 tb working fine with Sony vaio E15136 win 8.1 64 bit 4gb Ram. As long as I change the power supply i.e either plug in or plug out the power supply of my laptop, external drive is re-detected.
The external drive draws power from laptop. No external power source.
In case of USB pen drives this thing didn't happen.
Looking for any solution or explanation?

Hi, I managed to make the integrated camera work after reinstalling the Communications Utility. But I have an issue. The green light indicating the camera "on" status displays on the image. This doesn't seem normal to me. the camera sees it from inside the bezel. Any clue as how to fix this? See the image below:

Hi, Have a brand new X300 with Vista Business installed (as it came, nothing has been changed) and everything is fine except for the camera.  It comes up in Device Manager and says it's working fine, but just can't get any image from it.  Skype picks up the camera and when you go to set it up all that comes up is a black image - even taking a still photo produces a noise as if it's working but you only get a black picture.  I've tried updating drivers etc but nothing has worked.    I've tried the Lenovo support line a couple of times, but no one has called me back and it's starting to get annoying.  Am I missing something really simple (like a switch or some place to turn it on in Vista!!) or should I be sending this back? Any help would be greatly appreciated - the system type is 6478-A11Message Edited by poss25 on 01-05-2009 07:10 PMMessage Edited by poss25 on 01-05-2009 07:11 PM

We recently bought a g580, and there were no issues with it. I left for hollydays, and as far as i am told, it worked ok, until they decided to add another OS (linux mint) for dual booting, which went like this: Secure boot was disabled alongside UEFI, and Legacy first was selected for booting. A pendrive holding an image of windows 8 was used for booting, and then, the hard disk was completly wiped, reinitiallized using MBR instead of GPT, and a new windows 8 partition was made, and it was installed there (space was left for linux for a later install or something). After the installation finished, it rebooted, and no image was shown on the display, backlight was on, but it showed a black background. Rebooting did nothing, the small button besides the power button did nothing, removing the battery and holding power (once or many times) did nothing. They gave up and waited for me to return. I tried the same things, and then decided to plug an external lcd (vga cable). Voila... image showed up on it (in windows). If i rebooted, nothing showed until windows had loaded and i could see the logon screen. (initial setup really). After setting it up, i noticed that the displays were set for cloning. Setting to only the external one worked. Only the internal one kept the black screen. Extending worked showing image just on the external one. If i reboot using the advanced meny to get into the BIOS, i get the black screen too, and i have... Read more

Answer:G580 (2189, 20150) - Integrated display shows no image

hi rcocchiararo,

Welcome to the Forums.

It could be just a coincidence but it seems like the LED panel went defective after the EFI partitions got wiped.

AFAIK,  wiping out the all the default partitions is ok for re-installation of other OS. The only consequence is that you will not be able to restore the factory OS unless you created a recovery drive using this method (check this thread for the layout of the partitions and their functions).

While still connected to the external monitor, try to access and restore the BIOS defaults by removing the HDD. If same problem, you may need to contact lenovo for service.

Usually when we plug in a SATA drive it will show up in explorer but it doesn't now after I install Windows 10 (clean install). It work well when I'm on Win 7.

I've check the BIOS it indicate all ports AHCI an I never change anything since Win 7. So what could be the problem? As I swap drives often this feature really important for me, please help. Thanks.

Answer:Hot plug SATA HDD or DVD drive doesn't shows or not detected

You may use "Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager.

Hot plug still works in Windows 10 but sometimes with an unknown interference, it won't detect the swapping.

Sorry I don't know the proper terms, but basically the pin inside the jack where the power cord gets plugged into on my laptop was bent so that it's really hard for me to plug in my power cord and have it stay in place. My warranty with best buy has expired, so I need to figure out how to solve this problem on my own. I can't just leave it like this because the cord comes out really easily and I can't continue to work with such a tenuous setup. Anyway, is this just a matter of replacing the entire unit inside my laptop? I know you probably need more information, but I'm not sure what to provide, so please ask any questions. The laptop is a Toshia M-45, about 3-4 years old. Thanks in advance

Laptop is about 14 months old. Integrated camera was working fine.  I was using Skype the other day & it could not find the camera. I went into Devices & uninstalled the driver. Then the camera disappeared from Devices altogether.I downloaded/installed the latest driver for the camera:  version 1.32.500.0 (7tca23ww.exe), rebooted, but the device list still does not show in devices (yes-"Show Hidden" is selected).  Running Win 7 64 bit.Latest updates for windows are installed.   I periodically get an error message popping up that "Device driver failed install", but that's it.Attempts to run hdwwiz to install the camera were not successful, as I do not see any "Camera" listed under the Ricoh drivers section.

Finally broke down and started building a new system -
I'm too old to game, this all started out as a home video
project.

Anyway - gathered all my components, now I'm working
to assemble them.

The case came with an Okia Model 500-ATX power supply.
But no wiring schematic.

I'm trying to identify the power supply fan plug - what seems
to be it doesn't at all match the connector on the board.
And I've got that positively identified by the board manual.

The board has a small male 3 pin connection. The only thing I
can find that might be the fan connector coming from the
supply is a small 4 pin plug at the end of 1 of the strings of
drive power harnesses. Nothing tucked up behind the
supply case or anything.

Is that likely to be it? Or would that be for a floppy or something?

I tried to Google for a wiring schematic, but could find nothing.
In fact, nothing much at all on this brand of supply - just
a couple places that sell them. Please don't tell me I got
an el cheapo that isn't worth having!

At the risk of getting ahead of myself, in case I need to adapt
something like that to the different style male connector on the
board, in this case or something else I may find as i progress,
is there some type of source for adapters, or what would I do?

Bear with me, this probly won't be the last question I'll dream up -
just getting started.

While I'm at it - the board manual talks about a conn... Read more

Answer:New power supply, no schematic, looking for power fan plug.

There are basically two voltages available to you: 5V and 12V. Doesn't really matter where you get it from - some pin on the mobo or some wire from the PSU.

From the PSU the yellow wires are 12V and red ones 5V, black is ground. The fan voltages should be written on the fan itself, the black fan wire is ground, red may be 12V or 5V depending on the fan voltage.

Fan headers on the motherboard should be labelled so, check with a voltmeter what pin gives out what.

Answer:Tata indicom plug 2 surf internet modem shows connected but cannot open any page

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Answer:My lenovo g510 shows black screen every time I power it on but the power lights are on .

Hi Anish1,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with black screen in your Lenovo G510 laptop.

As you have mentioned that black screen when turned on, can you hear the windows login sound?
Remove the battery and connect only adapter and check for the issue also connect only battery and check for the issue.

Connect an external monitor and check if the display appears in the external monitor then its a issue with the LCD, if there is no display in the external monitor then it might be issue with the motherboard, hence suggest you to visit the nearest authorised service centre.

Click here for the service centre and select your region.

I went to radio shack and they could not find the right type of powerplug. I just need some direction I will also call Westinghouse on Monday but any support would be great.

Thanks

Answer:looking for a power plug

Welcome to Techguy! Don't feel bad about not knowing everything; we all suffer from that. Generally, monitors either use a standard 3 prong power connector just like your computer, or an external AC adapter, i.e. a power brick. Yours uses a brick. I did a quick search online, and found at least one vendor selling them: http://www.lcdpayless.com/productpage.php?productId=4794. However I don't know them, so don't take this as an endorsement. You might also find adapters on eBay. As long as you stick with top-rated vendors, I wouldn't be afraid to buy. You can also search more online using "westinghouse LCM 17v2ls power adapter" (no quotes) as your search string.

Looks like Microsoft is pulling the plug on Windows 98. We knew that part.

Apparently, they are not stopping the whole systemt though. They will continue to provide support.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - U.S. software maker Microsoft said on Tuesday it would continue to offer support to customers who still own versions of its Windows 98 (news - web sites) operating system, in a move aimed to sooth developing countries.

Extended Support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE had been scheduled to come to an end on Friday, January 16, while Windows Me support had been scheduled to end December 31, 2004.

The company has now decided to lengthen the Extended Support phase for Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Windows Millennium Edition (news - web sites) (Me) through June 30, 2006.

It bit the bullet after it emerged that many users in developing countries who still rely on Windows 98 were confused about Microsoft's support guidelines. These were shorter for some Windows 98 products than for its more recent batch of Windows operating systems like Windows 2000 (news - web sites) and Windows XP (news - web sites).

Microsoft has come under pressure in recent years, particularly by authorities in developing countries, for its attempts to push customers into buying or subscribing to newer, expensive Windows and Office software versions.

Many countries have started to buy computers that run on the freely available Linux (news - web sites) system, while... Read more

From Microsoft pulls the plug on Kin by Ina Fried:
Amid slow sales, Microsoft has decided to halt work on its Kin phone, focusing instead on its Windows Phone 7 effort, CNET has learned.
The phone will not ship in Europe, as planned, and the company is shifting the team's workers to focus on Windows Phone 7, the Microsoft smartphone operating system due out later this year. Andy Lees, who heads up the company's cell phone efforts announced the move to Microsoft workers earlier on Wednesday, according to a source close to the company.
Microsoft confirmed the move in a statement to CNET.
"We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned," the company said. "Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones."

My MOBO is ASUS P4P800 Deluxe.
I just recently flashed my BIOS to the latest BETA version from the German ASUS FTP site in order to correct my compatibility issues detecting my 300GB Maxtor SATA drive.

All was perfect until I tried to connect my mobile phone via USB and something went wrong and it wouldn't detect properly. The phone does, however, show up under USB devices as MOTOROLA USB MODEM, like it did in the past.

So I don't know what's the problem... and don't know how related this issue is, but then I saw that under 'System Devices' there is 'Plug-N-Play BIOS Extension' listed twice.

First one is fine, second one shows an exclamation mark and under properties it says that there is some corruption in the registry or something.

I don't like exclamation marks anywhere under Device Manager. I hope someone can tell me how to fix this...

Do I look for a driver? And if so, which one and where? Is this 'device' suppose to be listed twice? Maybe I should just try 'removing' it?

HI all,

I'm having a terrible problem with my laptop. I'm in the middle of Congolese forest. I charge my computer here using a small generator. While charging the computer something went wrong and when I tried to use it, it didn't switch on anymore. One local guy is helping me to fix the problem, he said that the elctricity pass through but stop in one point. He found that the integrated circuit N TA8320025 has to be changed. I'm asking to everyone to find this piece but no luck. Do you know any similar circuit integrated that can do the same job (that maybe are easier to find)?

Thank you in advance

Hi yabule, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

I think you're our first post from the Congolese forest!

Congratulations on your ingenuity debugging the problem down to that IC. Might I suggest that at this stage, it might be easier to get a replacement T400 there than to identify the IC, find it for sale somewhere, get it delivered, install it, and be right about it being the problem.

Another option would be a replacement motherboard.

That said, we have a resourceful and diverse community here, and maybe someone who has experienced a similar situation can give some advice...

Wow I was hoping that the Spartan name would be under VERY serious consideration by Microsoft. i thank that it is a very appropriate moniker.
One the name itself conveys the sleek, "Spartan", efficient nature of the browser. This is an appropriate association when considering Spatan in relation to the greek soldiers who were efficient warriors in battle, sparsely armed and lightly garbed for efficient movement, but extraordinarily effective rival against any foe. This browser is that. Streamlined and under the hood, very powerful - and apparently quite an effective competitor against rivals Chrome and Safari.
Naturally the more appropriate association is Spartan in relation to Halo. Spatans were deliberately engineered from their core, their very DNA, to be natural warriors, more. This browser was engineered from the core outward to be a powerful mobile browser that that does more than the competition. Naturally what was on the inside of the Spartan was not all that comprised who/what he was but his armor, with the integrated AI was a key symbiosis to the identity of every Spartan. With Cortana integration in the Project Spartan browser the parrellels are to blatant to miss. What better name for the ONLY browser with an integrated personal digital assistant that gets to know you and recognizes the webpages you surf and offers relevant support than "Spartan" which shadows Halo's Spartans with integrated AI's that recognizes the environment the Spartan is in and offers relevant... Question: laptop power plug

We have a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop but unfortunately my youngest has managed to split the dc low voltage (20v 90w) power plug moulding and has exposed the wire inside. It's well taped at the moment but i would like to get it fixed. Does any one know of a supplier of plugs or repair services, I'd rather look at the fix option first rather than spend £40 odd pounds on a new ac adaptor, unless of course the fix cost is comparable.

Answer:laptop power plug

You can probably fix it with Araldite.

Installed a new mobo in an AMD Athlon PC.There is the normal 20 pin power supply plug but there is an extra 4 pin plug.I understood that this was for Pentium 4 processors only. The mobo has a socket for this plug and that manual says to connect both.Silly question but do i?

Answer:AMD Athlon PC (4 pin power plug)

The four pin square plug supplies the mobo with 12 volts, which aids in system stability. I know they are used on the latest ABit Nf7-S v2 boards. I have it plugged in on mine.:-)

I have a Dell Lattitude D530. I believe it's at least three years old. I have had it for a year and everything was working fine. My children (thirteen, ten, and eight) were using it and they said the plug kept falling out of the outlet and they said there was a spark when they plugged it into the outlet but it worked after that. Then all of a sudden the laptop went black. Assuming it was out of battery power, and well past thier bedtime...they returned the laptop to me. I plugged it in and the 'transformer box' on the plug worked when I plugged it into the power outlet but as soon as I plugged it into the laptop it lost power. Hence the blue power light on the 'transformer box' went out. I have to let it sit for about 15 minutes and plugged it back into the power outlet the blue light on the 'transformer box' came back on but once again as soon as I plugged it into the computer the blue light went out again. HELP!I have a Blockbuster DVD stuck in the laptop and I don't want to break it to get it out. Luckily it isn't due for a week. LOL!
I appreciate any help you can give me.

Answer:Power Plug Problems

there should be a tiny hole on the front of the DVD tray. You can insert a straightened paper clip in it and manually open the tray
As to the power problem, I am sure one of the folks with more experience will stop by and assist you.

Answer:Router: What power plug is this?

It's a proprietary power adapter... you'll most likely have to look for a power adapter for that specific make/model in order to find one that works. The connector looks to be a mini-DIN.

Does anyone else have a loose power plug? I don't mean the connection between the plug and the computer, but the actual female end inside the computer.  It seems to be loose.  When I have the plug in and the cable hanging off the table, it moves off a bit in the direction of the cable.  I want to make sure that it is not going to short inside from a pin being broken or somthing. Thanks!

It is very unfortunate that the X1 has the power inlet on the left hand side and not at the back of the device, as with the T430s. But as most desktop setups do have power outlets build in the table top or at the back of the table it would be best for cable stress to have at least a 90degrees plug that allows the cable to go to the back and not stick on the side. Is there a (compatible) power supply with 90 degree plug available? Or can I buy compatible plugs at a hardware or electronics store?

Answer:Power plug 90 degrees

Presumably the power jack was relocated to the side of the X1C in order to allow the display panel to lay down flat with the main system unit. I agree that the side placement of the power jack is therefore less than ideal for the reasons you gave.

I have seen right angle adapters on eBay and Amazon for the previous round power plugs, e.g. BiXPower LC80 Right Angle 7.9 x 5.5mm Connector Converter for IBM / Lenovo Laptop Power Adapters but not (yet?) for the new rectangular plugs.

Power plug put on any of 4 HDs kills all:

Search of this forum yielded 'hard drive that kills.'
All 4 of my HDs, I pray, shouldn't have gone bad at once.

In said thread, one mentioned resetting power supply - but didn't give sufficient info for me to understand how. Might have been describing what power supply does itself - see below.

=======
I can have power plug in cd/dvd drives and computer runs but I guess maybe no load, or less load than starting a HD?

Repeated many times. Kills all whether ribbons are on HDs or not. Does it w/any of all 4 HDs. Have to off switch at rear of power supply and wait 14 seconds or so for mobo light to off before can restart computer w/out HD or rekill computer w/HD - when HD is connected before start fans start to run but quit in less than a second.

Power supply over a year old but used little - and was expensive.

Have simple ohm/volt meter.
What could cause power supply to be damaged - how test my stuff?

Any way to test/get Power supply going?

Could it be anything else???

Answer:Power plug put on any of 4 HDs kills all.

hi mate, dont know if im stoned or its your post but i had to read it about 5 times to make any sense lol

anyway doesnt look good does it, when testing these drives are you trying different molex connectors or the same one?

do you have access to a spare supply to test

if you want to try testing the power supply, just go on youtube and search for "test power supply" better to see it than for me to try and explain

Are you refuring to the 4 wire Molex adapter? If so, yes use that. Well, there are no molex plugs that plug into the mobo, there is the 20pin or 24, and the 4 wire, square one. But yes, you can use the 4wire molex adapter, that would be giving cdrom/hdd/video card power.

In a blog post, Microsoft has made a case fro a plug-in free Internet.

The transition to a plug-in free Web is happening today. Any site that uses plug-ins needs to understand what their customers experience when browsing plug-in free. Lots of Web browsing today happens on devices that simply don?t support plug-ins. Even browsers that do support plug-ins offer many ways to run plug-in free.
Metro style IE runs plug-in free to improve battery life as well as security, reliability, and privacy for consumers.

This post describes a way for sites that continue to rely on plug-ins to provide consumers browsing with Metro style IE the best possible experience.

Answer:Microsoft roots for a Plug-in Free Web

I like not having to use plug ins due to having to install 10 different plugins that slow things down. Some of those plugins are for a site that you rarely visit (Shockwave, RealMedia, etc.). With HTML5, plugins will be needed a lot less. That, and the portable device thing. Apple doesn't support Flash, and it probably wouldn't run that great anyway. Flash is a slow, outdated technology. Time to move on.

I have T410s with switchable graphics.I read from this forum that after resuming from suspend/standby, the power draw from the battery is unusually high due to both integrated and discrete graphics using up power. My question is: How do I verify that my computer is drawing much higher power after resuming from suspend/standby?  And 2, is this bug still present in some systems? Currently my computer is only set to hibernate unless I shut down.

Several Lenovo product lines offer, as the highest powered CPU, an "extreme" version.  For example, in the W530, you go up to the 3840QM cpu, then jump to the 3920XM "Extreme" chip.    This give you slightly more computing power, but at a cost: the power consumption jumps from 44W to 55W (rated/nominal - actual use is about 10W less I  think).  I've steered clear of such processors in the past, because the thermal management issue of 25% more power scares me a little bit. I've typically bought a unit with a non-extreme CPU with the highest  specs.  But this got me thinking: if you turned off integrated graphics on the CPU, how much would that reduce power usage? It strikes me that an extreme processor not doing graphics might use less power than a non-extreme that is.  In this case, there would seem to be little danger of over temperature with the more powerful CPU. I did retrofit a T9500 into by T61p.  It worked nice, but the temperatures did go up.

Two W530s, i7-3820QM, 2.7Ghz, 500Gb Samsung 850 Pro, 1920x1080, nVidia K2000m/100m, Win 7 ProT510, M540, 2.53Ghz, 1Tb hybrid drive, Win 7 ProTwo T61ps, T9500/T9300, 2.6GHz, 8Gb RAM, 256Gb Samsung 840 Evo, 1900x1200, nVidia 256Mb FX 570m, Win 7 Pro/Ultimate

Answer:Does turning off integrated graphics lower CPU power, temperature?

In my experience, the actual use is about 10W than the rated power consumption. I know my 2720QM will hit 55W package power consumption despite being rated 45W.I don't think you can turn off the integrated graphics because Optimus requires it to handle display output to the internal LCD.You can however use ThrottleStop > TPL > Intel Power Balance > CPU 31, GPU 0 to have the chip divert the most power to CPU rather than the iGPU.In the W520, ordering the 55W XM will cause the machine to ship with a beefier 55W heatsink instead of the 45W heatsink. In the W530, all heatsinks are 55W by default. As for your T61p with T9500, you can use RMClock to undervolt the CPU to get lower power consumption and heat output. You can also do similar to some of the newer CPUs, albeit with coarser controls.

Hi all.Yesterday, the PSU on my computer which is approximately 4 weeks old died. Luckily this will be fixed by Medion sometime next week hopefully however it got me thinking. This is the 4th power supply that has gone (3 in a different computer) whilst connected to the same plug in my room.Connected to the plug socket in the wall is a double plug with two extensions: a 4 way extension which keeps my TV, DVD player and video player in electrical supply and an 8 way extension with surge protection which satisfies the needs of my computer system. Connected to the 8 way extension are 2 monitors, surround sound system, computer, router, printer, scanner and an iPod charger. Admittedly this is possibly too many pieces of equipment to be supplied from one plug socket but it has only recently had so many additions. To me, 4 power supplies dying whilst all connected to the same plug indicates that there is something wrong but I would expect one of the other devices to be affected also which isn't the case. Do you think I'm just unlucky with PSUs or could my theory have some substance? Thanks very much for any input.

Answer:Can a plug kill a power supply?!

I would suggest you purchase a surge protected extention socket, to plug into instead of a normal unprotected one.It is possible for surges to cause damage. There is even a surge generated when a fridge switches on or off for instance.the surge protected extention sockets are only a couplr of pounds dearer than a normal, so better be safe than sorry, if you are having problems.

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion dv9700t laptop. The power connector attaches to the right side of the laptop and the plug is straight. Unfortunately, I do not have much spare room on the right side of the laptop where I typically use it and the plug/cord is interferring with my mouse. I've been scouring the internet looking for some kind of a right angle adapter that I could plug into the end of the power cord and then into the laptop so that the cord would immediately turn towards the rear of the laptop and give me more space for my mouse. Does anyone know where I could buy such an adapter?

A shot in the darkI have acquirred a Pentium 3 450 MOBO which I have fitted into a spare tower I have. It works fine I have installed the OS no probs. However it will not shut down - it gets to the point of "It is now safe to turn off your PC" and I can't. I have tried holding in the on/off button, doing a quick on/off nothing. I have also tried this with no HDD or other drives connected and it is the same. I know about enabling APM etc but it is nothing to do with that. All the wire connections to the MOBO from the tower do what they say and work properly as far as I can tell except I have one 4 pin connector left over with a black and a red wire connected to two of the 4 pins and the others empty. I can find nowhere for it to go it is a similar connector to an audio connector that goes into a cd drive I wondered if it was the tower speaker and if so its a red herring. Hi, I would like to know if the M58p USFF desktops have some kind of US regular power plugs (if it is please specify the size so I can find it on ebay) or it is a custom size and I can order only from Lenovo? I had to change my power suply and the only I found (19,5 Volts, 135 W) is from HP..... so the plug doesn't match. Since I'm in Europe the possible plugs I found are either too tight or too loose, so if I touch the powercord (by mistake or to plug a USB) it looses contact and it restarts. I hope someone can help me and if it's a custom one I can get an FRU number or so Thanks in advance

Can I plug in the power cable to a sata drive (already connected to sata port on mobo), while the computer is on.

With that drive connected Windows will not boot (I never have had a problem with the drive before, even when installing windows). If I remember right, a few years ago, I moved the pagefile to that drive, and it also had a boot.ini file on it (for some reason) I wonder if that is the problem (never until now), because when that drive is installed windows hangs at starting windows.

Answer:Plug in a sata power cable

If the SATA controller is set to AHCI mode, and the SATA port the drive is on is set to allow "hot-swap", then yes you could. If not, then no you can't.

You should post a screenshot of your Disk Management window with the problem drive connected. Expand the window so everything can be read.

I need an extra SATA plug than my PSU has to offer. Taking an old PSU, I snipped off a Molex 4 pin plug, and a couple of SATA plugs, thinking to "fix me up a solution". Problem is, the molex has a red, a yellow, and two black wires. The SATA has a red, a yellow, two blacks... and an orange wire. What do I hook the orange wire to?

Answer:Molex plug to SATA power

There are also other, smaller connectors, most of which have four wires: two black, one red, and one yellow. Unlike the standard mains electrical wire color-coding, each black wire is a ground, the orange wire is +3.3 V, the red wire is +5 V, and the yellow wire is +12 V.

I replaced a failed HP PSU 03057F3R with a "compatible" PSU from a supplier. There are 5 wires attached to the sata power plug for the failed PSU, but only 4 wires attached to the sata power plug for the compatible PSU. One of the 5 wires of the failed PSU is not connected to the molex plug but directly to the circuit board of the PSU.

The PC works fine with the compatible PSU and the hard drive seems to work fine with the 4-wire sata power plug which used to be connected to a 5-wire sata power plug. Should I be concerned that the use of the 4-wire sata plug will pose a safety or data problem for me?

do you have warranty? it is usually the power plug on the laptop that is going faulty. The power point on the laptop is connected to the laptop motherboard through a cable, so moving it as such should affect it in the way you describe it.

I own a HP G60 series laptop which is about 6 months old. The connector which plugs into the DC power jack on the side of the unit developed an intermittent connection. By this I mean that if you twist the wire at the proper angle you can get it to work.

HP was quick in sending me a replacement power supply at no cost since the unit is still under warranty. However, I would like to repair the old power supply and keep it as a backup by stripping back the cable and soldering on a new jack.

Does anyone know what type of jack that HP uses and where I can get one?

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z570 I purchased almost two years ago. Recently, I started having issues with the AC adaptor supplying power to the machine. Status light energizes when the adaptor is plugged into a socket, and testing the two terminals on the DC end of the adaptor show the proper voltage per the service manual. This leads me to believe either the power jack inside the laptop, or a connection to it have gone bad. I've been looking online trying to find more information about replacing this part, and haven't been able to find anything yet. Do I need to swap out the entire motherboard to replace the power jack, or is it a matter of a cable or card that's swapped out? I can't find any info about this in the service manual.

Answer:Power Plug Problems- Z570

The power jack or "power assembly" as Lenovo refers to it can be swapped out without any soldering. Only screws.  The procedure will require you to disassembly the machine down to the mother board for the replacement.  Prior to replacing, you might want to open the system up and double check that the cable from the power jack is scurely plugged into the motherboard. Page #74 of the Z570's Hardware Maintenance Manual shows the disassembly. Here is a link to the manual.... http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/Z370&Z470&Z570/Len... Replacement power jacks (power assembly) are available on e-Bay for a reasonable price.  Here is a link to the search I found..... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xideapad+z570+power&_nkw=ideapad...

Bought this laptop less than 2 months ago.. Used it earlier, went back to get online a bit later and it is just dead, no lights no power.. I took out the battery which was 100% charge, tried it with just the AC adapter, and with just battery Used different outlets etc exhausted everything... no lights, no power, just dead.  It is on a power surge protector. When plugged in battery is out to maintain battrey life.  Tried customer service chat... waste of time totally,  he after I explained EVERYTHING I have already done, had me going through all the same BS I already did....  For $380 it should last  longer than 2 months, and not be hit up to spend more money to get a defective product fixed, this is more than maddening.

This is a weird one. Recently my Thinkpad power plug stopped charging unless I rotated it at a certain angle. I just rotate it clockwise until I get the *beep* programmed in that tells me from ThinkVantage it's charging. Now I want to permenently fix this. Is this a power plug problem or a internal motherboard/mainboard problem? I'm really hoping it's the first one since it's relatively easy and cheap to replace. Thanks. --Will

Answer:Have to rotate power plug to charge

it could be either the power plug or the port that the power plug goes into. You can start by buying a new ac adapter.

Hi, I have a Lenovo X200 notebook.  The power adapter states it is a 65W 20V unit.  I will be going to Europe in a few weeks (Germany, Austria, Check Republic, Holland) and was wanting to know if I will need to buy a converter in order to keep my laptop charged without frying it,  or,  can I just use a basic adapter? Any feedback will be appreciated.

Answer:X200 power plug overseas

the power adapter unit itself can be used in any countries in the world that has a voltage between 100 - 240 V, you just need an adapter on the ac wall plug.

Received the new Helix (Gen 2) Ultrabook, and was (not) shocked to find yet another new power plug.  There are lots of adapters out there for the older style recangular plug (Carbon X1 older that is), from Amazon, allowing us to repurpose our ancient round-plug power supplies, but I have not yet found anyone doing this for the new 7.5mm x 2.9mm plug on the Helix Gen 2.   Has anyone else found a solution for this?

Answer:Helix Gen 2 power plug adapter?

Very Good Question!  I just bought the Helix 2 and have been looking for a thin/low profile aftermarket power supply to keep in my mini laptop bag, that would also have a USB port on it for charging my cell phone. I found one on Amazon made by Zitrades that said it was for the Helix, but when I got it, it had the larger yellow square plug on it, and the output voltage was 20 volts, whereas the original power supply for the Helix 2 is only 12 volts.  (I'm afraid the 20 volt one would have fried my tablet, had the power plug actually fit.) It's a real shame too, becuase this is very nice and very compact adapter, and by having the extra USB power port, it's one less power block you don't have to lug around in your laptop bag. So far I have seen very little in the way of an AC or DC adapter for the new Helix 2 that's low profile.

The plug in the wall socket from computer seems to get hot ,is this normal ?.Thank You.

Answer:Plug on power cable to computer

No, it isn't normal. The power drawn by a computer is very low in comparison to what a standard 13A plug is able to deliver.I suggest the first thing you do is check the fuse in the plug. Quite often these are not changed from the standard 13A which these "kettle plugs" are usually supplied with. The correct rating for a computer is 3A. If the fuse is wrong, you change it to the correct rating. If it blows then there is something very wrong which you should get checked out by a professional.

I have a T60, which I use for broadcasting online.  It is plugged into an outlet which switches a light off and on.  If I leave it plugged in, when the light is turned on, the laptop also starts up again.  I checked BIOS and can find no setting for this.  Any ideas what is causing this.  I am running Windows XP Pro with all updates, but I don't think the OS would matter.  It starts u whther the  lid is open or closed.  (I have it set to go to sleep, if I shut the lid.)

Answer:T60 starts up when I plug in the power adapter

Hi

Thanks for the Post.

In order to get the recovery of this issue, you need  to re-install Power Manager software from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Afterwards, please perform the following steps.
Double-click the green "Power Manager" battery icon near the Windows' system clock, usually at the lower-right corner of the screen. If you cannot find this icon, click "Start," "All Programs," "Access IBM" and "Power Manager."Click the "Battery Information" tab at the top.Click "Battery Maintenance."Click "Perform Reset," and then click "Continue" on the confirmation dialog box. This procedure will take more time to complete, and you should not use your ThinkPad during that time. You will be prompted when the battery reset is complete.

Make sure AC adapter plug in when perfoming gauge reset and do not close the system.

Regards,
Sameer

My laptop is X61.Now my laptop sometimes(50% chance maybe I don't know) will auto turn on when plug the AC power in. It's not good for me because I like to press the "POWER" key to turn on by myself. And it happens sometimes, really not good for estimating. This problem happens after I update the BIOS to the latest version "7NETC1WW(2.21)", I like to flash back to the orginal version but don't know how to do. Could anybody can help me in this matter? Or is there any other solution such adjust the bios functions to avoid this problem? Thanks a lot in advance

Answer:X61 auto turn on when plug in the AC power, HELP!

backdating the bios is same as updating the bios, just download the older bios software and go through the same process.

Toshiba Satellite L300-148 hangs when AC power cable is plugged

Answer:when I plug AC power the laptop frezes

For how long?If forever then reboot and look at event logs maybe for clues. It is an odd issue. Maybe boot to bios and just see if that happens also in bios screen. You'd know if you can't tab between choices. Be sure not to save any changes in bios, we just want to observe behavior. 1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. after reading pdf for a day with my new x61t in tablet mode, I found something very irritating. with AC power plugged in, it's really hard to use the tablet in portrait mode. The thing is: If I hold the tablet on the battery with my right hand (this is comfortable), then the AC power plug will be at the button and it's hard to put on my lap. When I put the battery into my left hand, the power plug will be on top and the laptop rests easily on my belly. However, I notice that the hot air exit is now at the button, which is not good coz I somehow block the air flow. How do you put you tablet in portrait mode with AC power? It would be so much better if AC power and air exit are on the same side.I have one idea, that is to find an "L" shape adapter for AC power plug so that it won't stick out of the tablet but goes along with it.

Answer:L-shaped power plug for x61t, is there any?

Hi acolytelee, welcome to the Lenovo User Community!  Several of the universal power adapters on the market make L-shaped  connections by virtue of the way their power tips connect. For example (link to PDF) here is one.

Hello, I bought a Sidewinder from PC World about a year ago because I thought it was pretty standard and easy to set up being USB. Back then I connected the game controller to my front USB port and Windows Me detected hardware and began to install it. I then started Rayman 2 and it worked fine (it was the pad that Ubisoft had suggested). It went in my drawer and I hardly played on Rayman 2 again. I bought Windows XP a year ago and now I decided to have a go! I inserted the USB cable into the port and...nothing.

I have played around in control panel but nothing seems to happen, it won't work with Rayman 2 and it doesn't make any sounds when I insert and remove it from the port. I have checked the official sidewinder website but I can't find anything!

Please can someone help me get my Gamepad working! Any replies are extremely appreciated!

So, I have my modem (SBV5120) and a 4 port linksys router that I had connected to my desktop and laptop computer. Power went off and shut everything down, beside the laptop obviously since it has a battery. Andd, now when I turned my computer back on, it said "100Mbps Connected" but I had no interent and it looked like the light from the back of my computer was orange and flashing.....So I tried bypassing the router and going directly from my modem to my desktop and it would stay at accuirering network address.......and then I try to click cancel and it wont let me, then proceeds to freeze so I have to end explorer.exe and you know the deal.

After that not working with or without the router, I tried to use the USB port on my modem to my computer, that would do the same thing - get stuck on accuirering network address. So now I'm stumped and not sure what to do.....My laptop works fine going through the router and going directly from the modem.

Devices:
Linksys BEFSR41 v2 4 Port Wired Router
Surfboard SBV5120 Modem
Thanks for any help I can get.

The LCD display goes blank if I disconnect the power plug.  This laptop was purchased in April 2015. Months ago, the display flickered if power was less that about around 60%, w/o AC power connected. So, it has progressively gotten worse.  I guess I have a high tolerance for pain. There is no flicker with continuous AC power.  I am looking for suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Hey folks, Ok, just wanted to share my solution to fixing the Y450 power plug issue. I'll be honest, it's a messy one, but it's a (nearly) free fix if you're outside of warranty. My sister owns the Y450, and started to have the unit not recognize being plugged in. After calling Lenovo, and being told the diagnostic would be $80, and a new motherboard $182 on top, I figured I'd take a jab at repairing it. The culprit, in my case, was a result of 2 things. Firstly, the power plug is held into a vertical slot. Looking to be an engineering flaw, the teeth that hold in the plug will snap off after repetitive use. I blame it on engineering since the teeth are evenly broken: Photo here The second issue was that, due to several attempts to make the connection work, the negative conduit (black) had become frayed and disconnected from the connector. The solution to this one was to reflow with my soldering iron (tricky though): Photo here This slot on the board is made of really thin plastic, so the best I could do is superglue it to the remainder of the chassis. In order to replace the slot, I would've had to re-order the entire bottom of the case. Superglued the plug in, now it's perfect.

Answer:[Solution] Power plug failure Y450

I have a Y450 4189. The computer would no longer power up. The connection for the power supply cord on the computer is loose. I removed right hand speaker cover to get a look and can see that 1 wire is off the back of the connector. How do I disassemble so I can resolder the connection. thank you for your assistance.

I assumed that 20V meant 20 volts DC.  Measuring at the plug with a DVM can't read any voltage.  What gives?See the power supply is rated at 90 watts.  Have a T61 with regular battery.

Answer:What does 20V mean on power supply can't read any voltage using a DVM on the plug

Yes, 20 volts DC. Did you test like THIS example at ehow? If so, and you get no reading, and you are sure your VOM is setproperly, the adapter would be bad.
