Question: a request for device descriptor request failed

hello guys in my device manager there is a yellow triangle on a usb device driver saying : a request for device descriptor request failed first i thought maybe 1 of my us ports not working but when i tested all ports are working even card reader but the error is still there i updated drivers (chipset - etc) but it didnt help so i want to know how to get rid of that error and what is the problem with my laptop?
note: sometimes when i trun on my laptop that error is gone mysteriously and most of the times its showing up
note: i recently changed my wireless adapter tho the orginial adapter was a bt/wifi combo but the new one is just a wifi adapter and i have an ssd installed instead of dvd optical drive and both are working well
note: things i already tried: disabling fast boot-updating generic usb drivers-taking out battery for 5 minutes-updating drivers

Preferred Solution: a request for device descriptor request failed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is this a USB adapter? Does the error go away if the adapter is removed? With the yellow flag in Device Manager, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the USB Device from the computer end and Restart your computer. When the computer comes back up, plug the USB device into different USB port of the computer.

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Answer:Device Descriptor Request failed

Hi timniko. Welcome to the TenForums @timniko

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

Would really real... Read more

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed. (error43)

You can mark this thread as SOLVED!

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.

having trouble installing an Epson WF-2530 printer onto win 8.1 machines.
i have 3 win 8.1/64 bit machines. it will install and is working on only one.
used the same installation disc, and install process, and cables with all 3 machines.
googling the problem shows plenty of stuff mainly updating drivers. done that, still no good.
Not sure why it works on only one, a generic clevo laptop w550eu.
thoughts???
the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

Was trying to plug my Toshiba 1tb External hard drive in to retrieve music off it and it wont recognize the drive. Device manager revealed the yellow triangle and error message. It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

Hi All,

Thought i would make this thread as i see others with the same issue. I have just built a new PC and i get the following error randomly.

"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The issue with this is i don't actually connect anything to the PC. the message just appears randomly then fixes it self on reboot only to happen again later.

I have reinstalled USB Drivers and the issue persists.
I only have two devices connected to the PC:
Razer Death Adder Mouse
Logitech K350 Wireless Keyboard.

Hello Ladies & Gents.

I would like to ask for your assistance on this slightly annoying problem.

I have 1 pair of Razer Megalodon USB headphones, on the start up of Windows 8.1 these headphones are not detected correctly. The only proof I have of this is in the device manager displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

(Please see attached screenshots)

Once the device is disconnected and reconnected device manager then displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
USB Composite Device

The device then shows in "Audio inputs and outputs"

Cheers,

Mr Collective

Answer:Razer Megalodon - (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Razer is well known for BSOD drivers and problems, otherwise. (And taking very old drivers, changing nothing at all, giving it a new date and then claiming "Compatible!" with new OS.)

Perhaps give a shot with uninstalling their software, rebooting, the re-installing.

Make sure using the latest.

When all is said and done, you might just have to live with it.

Can't hurt to make sure chipset drivers are up to date. If Intel chipset, search their driver site for "Inf"

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Lenovo B50-70 Laptop. It has 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports.

It started when I removed a USB mouse from the USB 2.0 port. I had a message flash up saying
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
If I go to Device Manager and 'Uninstall' the device, then plug the mouse back in and 'Scan for Hardware changes' it works. However whenever I unplug it I get the same error. I've tried doing them same thing and plugin in other devices, (my phone, a memory stick) and The error comes back. If nothing is in the port and I scan for hardware changes I get that message again.

Any ideas how to fix? It is almost as if the machine doesn't detect the mouse is unplugged and thinks it's gone wrong. The USB 3 ports are fine.

I've tried...
Checking for Driver/bios updates.
Cleaning the port.
Uninstalling all USB Drivers and reinstalling

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

Hi onyx,
This error means a device driver notified the operating system that the device failed. This circumstance can occur if the device hardware fails or if the device driver fails.
Have you tried to update the device driver for test?

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

After i updated my Lenovo G580 20150 to Win 8.1 all 3 USB ports stopped working. Now i can't use any USB device (Mouse, Flash drive, portable HDD etc, all working on my other Win8 computers). Below are some screen shots for further information. Please help to resolve this issue.

Answer:Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

hi kmugal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

The issue that your having is most likely the one discussed in this article.

If you have tried the USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0 (x1) ports with the same issue, consider the following:
1. Unplug all USB peripherals connected on the machine
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes (reboot if necessary) and try the USB devices.

If the problem remains, consider going back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh or Reset to isolate any issues on the OS level.

Regards

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Hi there, can you first tell us what is the Name and Model number of your system?

im sorry if you already listed this, as I cannot see your specs from the Windows Forum App..

I take it this is a laptop?

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

Hey
1.)So my mouse(Corsair Harpoon RGB) was recently just working fine until one night i unplugged it and put it into computer and on that computer it didnt work so i went back to my laptop to plug it in there, but it showed the same problem it didnt respond the logo didn't light up so i went to the device manager and it said *title. So how do i fix this is there something with my mouse is there something with my software?
Oh yea and on top of that i have 2 more issues that i jut can't solve by myself.

2.) Unknown USB-device(port reset failed)
3.)DVD Drive(optical drive) doesnt show up on the device manager but it sounds like it's working and it opens and closes.
4.)Front ports of my PC doesnt work if i plug an USB in it doesnt do anything (it does work perfectly in the back)

I don't know though if i should make more threads but they somewhat relate to each other,
that's why they are just in 1 thread. If you need to ask any question, need pictures , my specifications or anything else just ask me.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards Hao.

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

When my girlfriend connects external USB device to any of the USB ports on Windows 10 Home she gets message:
USB Device Not Recognized.
She can not charge USB device via USB port.
I went to device manager and under USB Controllers I see following:
Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I tried some tricks I googled for this message but none of them returned result.
She didn't get any of the drivers with this device which needs to charge.
What should I do to be able to charge this device via USB?

Answer:USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed

Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port.
Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has problem.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows.

Right-click on the device and select Uninstall from the context menu.

After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.

The problem can be caused by faulty USB driver. In this case, updating driver would fix the problem.

Obtaining Hardware ID's to help Identify Hardware
- Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Expand the "Unknown USB Device" category by clicking on the + sign to the left of it
- Right click on the "Unknown device" (if there's more than one, do this for all of them) and select Properties.
- Then select the Details tab.
- In the dropdown box, select "Hardware IDs" - and match the info to one of the following descriptions:
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VEN_ and DEV_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
this is a PCI device and we'll look up the information at http://www.pcidatabase.com
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VID_ and PID_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VID_ an... Read more

I am running the Lenovo Ideapad y510p (the GT755m SLI version). I had my USB mouse and my flash drive connected to the 2x 3.0 USB ports (the ones on the left), everything was fine until suddenly both of them stopped working. When I try connecting the flash drive nothing happens, however, when I try connecting the USB mouse it says Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in the device manager, windows error message "USB Device not recognized" also pops up in the bottom right corner. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

I'm experiencing slim keyboard not being recognized in the Windows 8.1
The keyboard was working fine until just one day it just stopped working.
I tried factory reset literally 8 times along with most recent BIOS update and dell's recommended update software. + power setting --> disabling power saving on USB
It still come up as unrecognized each time even with fresh reinstall.
I was wondering if this is a hardware issue or just software bug from factory reset.
I don't think there is a available driver for this kind of problem is there?

Hi,
I sporadically gets the "USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed"; however, while I have 6 USB devices connected, none of them seem to be the cause of the error. When I use devmgmt.msc to get the Hardware Ids, the value is simply "USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE". I use TARGET software to control two joysticks and a rudder. (Besides these three USB devices I have a keyboard, a mouse and a TrackIR 5). In some instances everything works even though I got the error but in others instances none of the joysticks are working as expected. Sometimes restarting the computer helps or uninstalling the "mystic" USB device, however the problem always reappear and I would really like to get rid of it permanently.
Anyone got some idea what could be causing this?
I have updated all drivers but it did not help.
Thanks,
Klaus

Hello everyone,
i hope you can help me sorting out this issue that is causing me a hard headache at the moment.

I've bought this new Lenovo Z50-70 laptop with windows 8.1 preinstalled on it. Fresh new.

I'm trying to connect via usb a guitar audio interface (Line6 POD HD500) so i installed the drivers via the .exe setup file i downloaded from Line6's site.
The device worked fine on my previous HP pavilion with windows 7.

Now when i completed the installation, i connected it and i had this error:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
I used slimdrivers to update all the other drivers, in case it was a conflict causing the error.
I checked via command prompt with command "pnputil -e" and i saw a driver from the vendor of the device listed, so it is installed correctly i think.
I tried all USB ports i have, 3.0 and 2.0 on one side of laptop and 2.0 on other side.

When on device manager, if i click update drivers and choose the "let me pick from a list of device drivers.." i don't see the company name of the device.

i saw that another guy posted a really similar problem on SevenForum and he figured out how to force windows to use the drivers but he didn't post the solution.. Here is the post: Can't get Windows 7 x64 to use the drivers I've installed repeatedly Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

Greetings folks

I have a problem that bugs me for years, I never intentionally solved it, sometimes those errors disappears and all USB ports work fine, sometimes they do not. So anyone can help me please, it would be great.

Some of my ports do not work all the time, I cannot identify a specific moment. Inside the Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, I get 1, 2 or more "Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptior Request Failed )", sometimes more sometimes less.

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770
Motherboard: AsROCK H77 Pro4/MVP
Windows 10 all available updates downloaded and installed as of today, and everyday. The problem appeared on Win 8 or 7, not sure when. So it's not necessarily Windows 10 specific. I ported it to 10.
Here is what they look like:
http://prntscr.com/d6rm6k

Bios is up to date. Chipset drivers updated, various solution tried from googling, I even managed to make all USB ports stop working testing some of these solutions, I had to restore windows from a ghost image I had.

It's like these USB ports remain suspended sometimes.

Any advice on what to try? The most annoying part is that from the frontal USB ports some stop working randomly too.

Thank you

EDIT: The problem is the motherboard. The computer was checked at a computer service, and it seems the time has come for it to be buried.

Hey guys... I am about ready to pull what hair I have left out of my head. Here is my setup:

-MSI X99A Pro Carbon motherboard
-Intel Core i7 6800K prcessor w/Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 cooler
-32 gigs of DDR 4 Quad Channel ram
-Windows 10 Pro
-One SSD 250GB Intel drive for OS
-5 internal HDDs for storage - All Sata connected
-Corsair Graphite 760T case.

I do not over clock. I have the ram overclocked in the BIOS using XMP to 3000 speed, but that's it.

Here is my situation, and I am baffled and feel super deflated over this mess as I run a small project studio for video and audio work and this is causing me to fall behind on projects.

I am getting constant on screen pop up notifications that a recent USB device isn't recognizable or 'has malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it' along with constant USB connect/disconnect sounds. I just built this custom PC this past week and everything seemed fine for a couple days, and then this started.

When it does this, I go into device manager, and I get a yellow exclamation mark under the USB list that says 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I have hit google search and tried every single suggestion I could find including the following:

-Blowing all the dust out of all the ports, although i doubt that was an issue because the case and motherboard are brand new.

-Going into device manager, and disabling or uninstalling the device that is giving the error. It pops right back ... Read more

Most of the threads on this error are old, (2015) so I am starting a new one. I only notice it when I happen to be in the device manager. I have no problems with any of my connected USB devices (that I have observed).

I have tried uninstalling it, and rescanning and it pops up again, so apparently it is something that is connected. Without disconnecting All of my USB devices one at a time (which I am wont to do, as it is not bothering me, other than that it is there!) It has been there for quite a while, so apparently is not anything new being connected.

Is there no way to identify WHAT is connected to this port, or even what port it is?

BTW, it only shows up in the USB Controller section, no matching errors in any of the devices themselves!

Curiouser and curiouser...

Answer:USB device descriptor failed

Hi.
In Device Manager, right-click the problem device and select Properties. In the General Tab, it gives the error code. In the Details tab, use the arrow down to select Hardware Ids. Then google the ID to identify. Could be an internal USB connection to something like wifi, BT, or card reader. Those cables do go bad sometimes.
Example: USB\VID_046D&PID_0A04&REV_0007

I have two WD "My Book" 3.0 USB drives.  Previously, they both worked fine.  Now one of the two drives is getting a device descriptor request failed message.  The other drive is fine.  I have tried different 3.0 inputs on the system both in back and on top in the front.  Any ideas on why the same drive isn't working?  I have tried both on other systems and they work fine.  The other systems I have tried them on are WIN7 and WIN 8.1.

Answer:usb 3.0 drives getting device descriptor failed error

Hi there slovey  Have you, by any chance tried with another USB cable? I wouldn't make sense to change things as the device works on other systems but it wouldn't hurt to use the other My Book's cable with the problematic one just to rule this out as a potential cause. I would also check this thread and see if the offered solutions there help.  Keeping your OS, BIOS and drivers up to date is also an important part of the troubleshooting process. I'd also check if there's a new update specifically for the driver responsible for the communication between the drive and the system. Post back if you need more info! Captain_WD.

Norton Internet Security has been reporting that it blocks an intrusion attempt from a variety of addresses and reports the risk name as either HTTP Tidserv Request or HTTPS Tiderv 2 Request. I get a few unrequested webpages, but the main symptom is the warning messages from Norton. In attempting to fix the problem myself, I learned that I can not boot to Safe Mode because my system hangs at amdagp.sys and returns to the "how would you like your computer to boot" screen. I think this is an unrelated problem, but thought I'd mention it.Thanks! Norton Internet Worm Protection (in Norton AntiVirus) has detected and blocked two different Intrusion Attempt ("ISearch DNS Request" and "Goidr DNS Request")
Norton has blocked it and that?s all fine but does this mean I have some kind of malware (spyware/adware) on my computer?

I have had problems with Trojans, Downloaders, Adware (Virtumonde is one of them) since Aug. 26th. I thought I had got rid of all the bad stuff but a few days ago Norton stated to give me these warnings.
Norton have also recently detected "Infostealer.Gampass" (and deleted it).

So now I wonder if this is serious and if I need to do more to clean up my computer?

I am just an average computer user that is trying to understand and solve this problem so I would be very thankful for some expert advice on this.

(I have Norton Antivirus, expired version of Webroot SpySweeper, Spybot - Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender and AVG Anti-Spyware installed on my computer right now to try to find any still remaning "bad stuff".)

P.S. I have tried to find help on Symantec?s website but all it says is to uninstall some program that is causing this (there is none as far as I can see) and do a virus scan (I have! SEVERAL times!! Norton finds nothing).

Once again, thankful for any help and advice I can get.

Answer:Attempted Intrusion From Isearch Dns Request" And "goidr Dns Request

Hi, welcome to Bleeping Computer. The short answer to your question is Yes.Virtumonde is a difficult thing to get rid of with ordinary tools. Then you seem to have other infections complicating the situation. One of them is a password stealer.I suggest you take this machine offline as much as possible, and change all your passwords from a clean computer. Go ahead and scan with those free tools you have downloaded, they will clear out some of the malware, but I think you are going to need help to get your computer clean.Remove your expired version of SpySweeper, it's useless without current definitions. Please follow the instructions in this preparation guide and post a HijackThis log in the HijackThis forum, not here. Be patient, there is quite a backlog there at the moment. If after five days, you have not received a reply, post a note with the URL of your topic here. Good luck.

I have read about some fixes in Google. Some I don't trust. Some I don't understand.

I have used ATF cleaner to clear away the cookies and all the things it clears.

I cannot reach Photobucket using Google Chrome. I can reach Photobucket with IE9, but IE9 is incompatible with another site I visit daily.

Sure hope you can help me. Thanks a lot.

Please help. My computer is constantly being attacked (HTTP Tidserv Request & HTTPS Tidserv Request 2). I do not know how to keep this from happening. I've been letting others use my laptop (my first mistake), and about a week ago this all started happening. Needless to say, I'm concerned as I don't know how much damage these attacks can do. My Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security has been blocking the attacks, but they come constantly from several attacking IP addresses and URLS. Below please find my dds.txt and attached my attach.txt and gmerlog.log as instructed. Good evening. Take a trip to this webpage for download links and instructions for running Combofix by sUBs.* Please be aware that this tool may require the PC to be rebooted so close any programs you have open before you start. When CF has finished, it will produce a log - C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste it into your next reply. Let me know how the PC is behaving.* There are two points to note from the instructions page:1) The Recovery Console. It is recommended that you install this as, in certain circumstances, it may be the difference between a successful repair and a reformat. If you are uncertain as to whether or not you already have the Recovery Console installed, simply run CF and it will prompt you if it does not detect it.CF will complete some, but not all, of it's removal tasks without the installation of the Console so, should you choose not to allow the installation, you may not get the results you hoped for.2) Disabling your Anti-Virus.CF has been the victim of false-positive detections on occasion and a resident AV may incorrectly identify and delete part of the tool which won't do it much good. If you don't disable your AV, you may not get the results you hoped for either.

I believe my computer has become infected with this malware. The symptoms yesterday were continues messages from Norton about blocking various attacks. Trojan Horse was mentioned in one of the entries, also. I attempted to clean these off myself. The steps I took: I noticed I had around 30 tasks in windows scheduler that ran every 15 minutes. I deleted those. According to the event log, windows security center was disabled so I renabled that. I checked the registry files where I was familiar with looking and didn't see anything unusual. Today, the symptoms are redirects in IE 8 to different websites than clicked, about every 30 minutes another block by Norton for HTTPS tidserv request or HTTPS tidserv request 2, I can not make changes in MSCONFIG even though I'm logged in as administrator, and the computer will not boot in safe mode or safe mode with networking.Attaching the attach.txt and ark.log files. From the DDS.txt log:DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Brian at 22:32:26.64 on Sat 04/10/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.502.202 [GMT -4:00]AV: Norton Internet Security *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {E10A9785-9598-4754-B552-92431C1C35F8}FW: Norton Internet Security *enabled* {7C21A4C9-F61F-4AC4-B722-A6E19C16F220}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k ne... The subject line is ?BSODs have me at my wits ends.?  At this time, it?s sitting down nearing the bottom of page two on this forum.  I really would appreciate some help with this problem because I am not sure what is causing it so I don?t know how to solve it.  Plus I am not sure if I would have the expertise to solve it without making things worse even if I was sure what was causing it, without someone else?s help. Thanks for any advice you can give me.       K

Hi,
I have an adsl connection. i have a GLB-502T D-Link modem/router . It works fine with the desktop only plugged to the ethernet. Now I want to have a wireless LAN setup at home. which is why i connected the DI-514 wireless router to the ethernet port of the modem/router and the desktop to one of the five ethernet ports. The desktop worked fine on the first go but i cannot connect the laptop. The connection is made and drops in about 30 secs or so saying The host did not respond to the DHCP request made. If i repair this which menas the lappy will again do a request the lappy connects again but gives the same err in about the same time .
Please Help
Thanks for any small i/p

Answer:DHCP request failed

I'm surprised that it worked at all. Both of those routers have the same subnet as their base address, which usually makes it impossible for the second router to connect to the WAN port. I'd configure the secondary router as follows, which will give you the wireless capability, but eliminate the second NAT layer and it's difficulties.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NAT layer) and configures the router as a switch (or wireless access point for wireless routers).

my issue is the same as this old thread (and how i found this form) http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/A7-Me-FW-Downgrade-Request-Me-Spilock-Failed/td... I have just taken delivery of a refurbished pavillion which has the above BIOS issue, it didnt come with any recovery disk or USB. The company can replace it but its going to be in January, so if i can sort this myself and my kids actually have a christmas present I will obviously be very happy, and slightly less angry lol I cant get it to start in safe mode even (assuming safe mode is f11) any idea of a work around if i cant get in to execute me.bat? thanks in advance

I have an Inspiron 7559 that is failing to boot. It displays "(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed" just after showing the white Dell logo.I think my daughter turned it off when an automatic BIOS upgrade was started. The system was reporting the BIOS was at 1.2.0 but it couldn't see any USB drives. I ran BIOS recovery which left me with version 1.1.3 and the ability to see USB drives - still not able to boot into Windows 10.
I downloaded the latest firmware (1.2.1) and created a new bootable USB drive to update my firmware. If I run the Inspiron_7559_1.2.1.EXE from a DOS prompt or from the BIOS Flash Update option after hitting F12 it fails with "Unable to start a Secure Flash session".
Running from DOS:
I get promoted to Start to Flash: Y
Decompress ROM completes.
Get related info.
Uploading the ROM into the BIOS completes.
Uploading the ME Capsule data into the BIOS completes.
Begin to update BIOS from version 1.1.3 to 1.2.1 fails with "Error: Unable to start a Secure Flash session."
I've tried various boot settings of UEFI/Secure, UEFI/NotSecure and Legacy. Also Dell DDDP and Rufus to make bootable DOS USB drives.
I've also tried using the recovery utility (hold esc + control when connecting in the AC power) with a USB and a BIOS_IMG.rcv - I get a black screen and 3 amber flashes followed by 4 while flashes on the LED. Without a USB I will get the recovery screen.
Diagnostics did not report any issues.

I am running Win 7 Home 64 bit and have encountered windows update failures. All suggested fixes have failed to resolve the problem so I tired to run system restore back to a date that I believed would restore the pc to a time when windows update was functional.
To my chagrin the restore also failed with the following window popups appearing: Unspecified error during system restore 0xc0000022. The other popup tells me that the program can't start because rtl120.bpl is missing. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem. I don't know of the two error messages are related or the missing file mentioned relates to something else?
Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.
Frank

Answer:Request help with failed system restore

Hi Frank,

Lets look at this from your original problem -- Updates

please run
sfc /scannow (note the space)
then SURT
Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center

These might actually fix both.

Upload the CBSlog, and i'll have a look.

Do you/have used a tune-up utility or registry cleaner if so reverse the changes.

Greetings,

I am having a current issue and for the life of me have been unable to resolve it. I'll start from the very beginning.

I am currently working on a new build that contains an Asus Maximus VIII Hero. I was trying to figure out a way to get windows 7 on a Samsung m.2 ssd and it hasn't been working out. I made some bios changes hoping it would resolve the issue and nothing. I changed all of the bios settings back to default, installed a regular Samsung 850, and installed Windows. Ever since then it takes ages to boot. Between the Asus splash screen and the Windows start screen I get the error message "(A7) Me FW - Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed" it also makes a loud click sound.

I've found a few posts online but nothing has helped yet, I have also switched all hardware except for the MOBO and CPU since I do not have any spares lying around. I have also re-seeded the CPU and cooler.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the explicit instructions on how to activate hibernation. Unfortunately, I am getting the following message when entering the powercfg -h on:

Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported.

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
There are one or more legacy drivers installed:
VgaSave
An internal system component has disabled hibernation.
PLEASE HELP!!! Can I disable the VgaSave driver?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums bbossoxx. The VgaSave is a default system driver. Have you tried updating your display driver? If no help, suggest running the System File Checker

I have done some research on these backdoor trojan viruses, and I have found out that they are very serious, and I really need help to get them off my laptop.
Yesterday, Norton detected Backdoor.Graybird and removed it (I think), and for weeks now, I have been getting notifications on the bottom right-had corner of my screen saying "A recent attempt to attack your computer has been blocked" or something like that, and when I click 'view details', it either describes it as "HTTP Tidserv Request" or "HTTPS Tidserv Request 2" and some IP address and bunch of other things I can't understand. I would really appreciate help on what to do to remove these viruses so I can continue to work on my computer without worrying about hackers stealing my information and whatnot.
Thank you!

We love the X61s and have been purchasing them for the entire team. One suggestion.  The original Wacom digital pens opened right click menus by just pressing a button on the pen. The X61 requires that the button be pressed and the screen tapped at the same time. Wacom's approach is much easier. Is there a way to change this setting?  If not - this would be a great feature for this laptop.

I keep getting this message
400 Bad request

Your browser sent an invalid request.
Only on some sites not all.

To date i have flushed the dns, cleared the cookies and cache, power cycled the modemand rebooted, but the problem still persists.

I am also having trouble with Warcraft 3, I can login to battlenet fine, with a decent ping being in Australia, however I am getting some major lag spikes, to the point where it will disconnect me from the game but not the server.

Any ideas?

Ok, today when I turn on my computer in the morning all of a sudden it took ages to boot, when it booted my D: drive was not showing in MY COMPUTER.

Computer wasvery unresponsive, so I checked the Administrative events and I saw like a hundred of this message:

A request to this device has been cancelled.
Device: \Device\RaidPort0
Model: WDC WD1002FAEX-007BA0
Firmware Version:05.0
Serial Number: WD-WMAUR0614125
Port: 1

I had 3 Sata drives in my system, this one (Wester Digital Caviar Black 1000gb) had my sample libraries and it had just like 19gb of free space.

When I disconnected the drive computer booted normaly.
I dismounted the drive and put it on a usb docking station and it was not recognized and computer was slow again..

I see the BIOS and the HDD shows there.. (strange)

I can't believe my HDD died on me cause I just have like 4 months with him..

What are your advices over this issue??

Thanks a lot people

Answer:a request to this de device has been cancelled

Try burning this iso to a cd/dvd: WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD VelociRaptor

Boot from the optical drive and see what WD's diagnostics program has to say about the drive. (WD's diagnostics program is the same for most of their products, so don't worry if the product on the d/l page doesn't match yours.)

If the drive seems to be only marginally healthy you may want to make sure you backup all data from it before running the tests.

I have an external Bluray/DVD drive (ODP1201=S3-B) that works perfectly on Windows 7 but is not recognised by my new laptop which has Windows 8.1 64 bit. Can anybody explain why this is and what I do to get pass it, or is this a problem with Windows 8.1?

The device is listed in Win 7 as "hp bd rom bc 5501h", and the driver is 6.1.7601.17514

I have now tried various USB devices; I have connected a USB 2.0 External Hard Drive and a USB 2.0 Canon Camera both of which work OK, I have also connected a Seagate 1T external drive which is USB 3.0 an that was OK as well (the ports are all USB 3.0 on the laptop hence the reference to the which USB type)

The error message is as follows: "USB Device Not Recognised", When I go in to Device Manager I find two USB error listings, Unknown USB Devise (Device Descriptor Request failed) & Unknown USB Devise (Port Reset Failed)

I have been advised that this error can arise when a drive doesn't receive enough power from the system. The device does have two USB connectors, I have tried using both of them. The power cable going to the powered USB on the laptop and the data going to the adjacent USB (there are a pair of USB sockets on either side of the laptop, the right hand side having the only powered socket).

Answer:Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descript

I'm too of opinion that it's a power issue. Laptops are not known to have much power thru USB ports, not even some desktops for that matter. Possible solutions: If that laptop has USB3 port you can try it in there, it gives more power and is compatible with USB2. Another one is to ad external power to the drive. One of the USB connectors on the twin cable has only two connection tabs and is for extra power to device. That one can be connected to universal USB charger for phones etc. That's how I solved a problem with a HDD in external enclosure.

Hello forum, I have a T440 with 500 GB HDD+16 GB SSD. The HDD failed within 3 months with light usage, which is very disappointing. The laptop is still under warranty and I am wondering if I can replace it with a single SSD under warranty. I talked to Lenovo customer service and I believe they will only replace it with another HDD. Can I request Lenovo to replace it with a 500 GB SSD instead for a small price? Or will Lenovo charge a lot of money for that? If the latter is true, then will it make sense for me to buy and replace the SSD on my own?  Also, which option is right for me? To get it repaired at a Lenovo associated depot or ship my laptop to lenovo directly for repair? I don't have a recovery disk and Lenovo said it will provode me with one.

Answer:HDD failed within 3 months. Request Lenovo to replace with an SSD under warranty?

Hi rad77,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

It?s always good to go with what the brand offers you always, as per the Lenovo policy Lenovo is responsible to replace the part which is shipped with the system only, if you need an upgradation to your laptop either you can buy it from Lenovo authorised service centre or you can purchase it from any of the online store but before that I kindly request you to check here  what does HDD and SSD do.

I would suggest you to go for Lenovo service and more over they are even providing you the recovery disk so, it is more beneficial for you rather than choosing which doesn?t fetch you anything.

Please let me know whether the above suggestion helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Did someone help you today? Click on the ?upper half star? at the left side of the post to thank them with a Kudo!

Dell customer support wasn't able to help me fix this issue. Luckily I've got a bit of experience with computers and was able to figure it out. Basically, my XPS 8900 started freezing at start up (at the Dell logo) and would either remain frozen or black out the screen with the error message, (A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed.
So, for anyone else unfortunate enough to encounter this error, here's the fix;
- Start Computer
- Press F12 at the Dell logo (May require wired keyboard)
- Select "Change Boot Mode Settings"
- Select "Legacy Boot Mode, Secure Boot OFF"
- Apply changes
- Computer will restart, press F12 again at the Dell logo
- Select "Windows Boot Manager"
- Computer will start as normal. Log in. Once on your desktop, restart computer
- Press F12 at the Dell Logo
- Select "Change Boot Mode Settings"
- Select "UEFI Boot Mode, Secure Boot ON"
The computer should then start normally and you should have no more issues.
Hopefully I can help at least one person with this information, I was tearing my hair out in frustration. Have a good day :)

Answer:XPS 8900 ERROR - (A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed

Hi,
I have a XPS 8900 I purchased from Costco about 2 months ago.  Just this month I have had my system freeze on me 7 times.  It boots up ok but freezes randomly while I am logged in on the internet or in outlook.  I have had to do cold boots. This last cold boot I did today I barely saw the message "Request MeSpiLock Failed" as it was booting up.
Costco tech support asked me to did a system restore which didn't help and another time ask that I do a rebuild to earlier version of Windows 10.  I don't have high hopes that this last change will help.
Do you think the steps you listed in your post on 1/15/16 at 6:38pm would fix my problem?
Thanks - Joanne

Hello,

Happy Holidays to all.

Have the following msg that appears momentarily on top of
monitor when attempting to boot my non-booting system:

A7 Me FW Download Request Mpsp Lock Failed.

Any idea what this means ?

Won't go over my tale of woe with my Dell XPS 8900 now, but basically I got it to run, finally,
perfectly, after using the Dell Repair Disk I created when I bought the pc 2 yrs ago.

But, like usual, after 10 minutes or so it just freezes, and a blank screen.

There "seems to be" a correlation in that it "seems to" happen after a download from MS and/or Dell.

Good evening. Download TDSSKiller.zip from Kaspersky from here and save it to your Desktop - this is important. You will then need to extract the file(s) from the zipped folder. To do this: Right-click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...In the Extraction Wizard window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again. In the final window, click on Finish Close all open programs as a reboot may be required. Go to Start > Run, copy and paste the following into the text box and hit OK:"%userprofile%\desktop\tdsskiller\TDSSKiller.exe" -l report.txt A Command Window will open and the tool will scan and produce a log called report.txt that can be found in the TDSSKiller folder that you unzipped. If the tool prompts for a reboot, please allow it to do so; if it fails to reboot after prompting, reboot manuallyPlease post the contents of the log, report.txt, in your next reply.

I viewed the Preparation Guide thread. I unfortunately have no way of backing up my files so I'm unfortunately all by myself here. I have a tendency to get viruses a lot and it just baffles me that these programs don't really protect you from the serious stuff. I download quite a lot. I only have basic cable at the moment so if it's not on Hulu, I download it. I also download shows for music video making (hobby of mine) and once in a great while, I get something. I use Norton Security Suite. I've heard it's a horrible program. I've only had the computer for a couple days before I got something. And this all started when Norton notified me that Auto-Protect has detected "Trojan.FakeAV!gen35". Risk Category "Heuristic Virus". Norton says it blocked it but I'm guessing it didn't. Surprise surprise. It says the location of the file name is "c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\hwtglcvvq\uxmqbtvtssd.exe". I checked that folder but there is nothing there. But this was just the beginning. After that, I got another notification "2933463.0332615147.exe detected by SONAR". It's been Quarantined. I am looking for help. I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-s4164 Window XP SP 2 Media Center Edition purchased in August. Just last night I noticed that my (D) Drive which is my DVD-RAM Drive as it reads now is not working correctly. I can play DVD's but it does not recognize CD-R/RW CD's nor actual Audio CD (retail). I seem to think that at an earlier time the Drive use to read CD-R/RW drive. ??? Could it just be the setting? The DVD-RAM is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-841S.

I have gone through the forum and tried out all the suggestions I could find. Still the problem exist.

When attempting to copy files to a CD I recieve this message: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

After going through all of the suggestions I could find I decided to do a full recovery (factory) and the problem is still there.

I have gone through Record Now! and Window Media Player using an Audio CD (retail) and I recieve the following message disk empty or drive busy. When I open the file nothing is there.

Please help. This is driving me bonkers.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:D:// The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

If you've done a Factory Restore and the problem persists then the drive has physically failed. I think its time to use that warranty that came with the laptop.

I'm helping my uncle with an older Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP Pro and a DVD Multi Recorder RW drive that's having problems reading CDs and DVDs. He says sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but he hasn't seen any patterns and I haven't been able to get it to work at all. At first, it just kept saying to insert a disk but there was already a CD inserted (it just didnt' recognize there was something in there I guess). I ran TuneUp Utilities 2008 to help with some other problems/performance issues, and after I was all done the message changed. Instead of asking to insert a disk, I got the following message when trying to run the same CD: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".

I've been currently using a 600gb SATA HDD for my OS etc and everything else. I decided to put in my other SATA 320gb HDD as I am going to need more space (Recording with my hd capture card takes up alot of space!). I put it into the HDD bay, plugged both the SATA cable and power cable into it. I turned on my PC and it read it and said it was set to go. I went into Computer Management to set it up and a window popped up saying I needed to initialize Disk 1 being the drive, so I clicked ok. It freezes for a second and then a small box pops up saying "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Please help, I am very smart with computers for the main concept however HDDs are actually one of the only things I'm not very experienced with. Thanks guys! I appreciate any support. I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS in case that matters.

Answer:NEW HDD - The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

OK, first of all, we have no idea what you are working on. Post your exact system specs ie make and model of mb, cpu, amount of ram, etc. If this is a big box system, then post the make and model.

Have you rechecked/reseated both pw and data connections for the drive?

Have you tried a different sata cable and or a different sata port on the mb?

I have a kingston 8GB microSD, i thought it was dead, but that was just my adapter, so now i have a new one. I am using a MicroSD -> SD -> SD USB reader.

When i stick it in, the device appears empty, i have to pull the MicroSD and SD adapter and reinsert them back into the USB reader for it to be recognized.
After my computer recognizes it, If i go to my computer in windows explore, it lags for a while if i right click or double click on the drive. After that, i can't access it at all, a little while later (regardless of weather the SD lock is on or off) i get:
M:\ is not accessible.

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
I have tried various formating utilities, some tend to crash, and i think the microSD has actually caused a couple BSOD's.

Im wondering if anybody has a solution, or some good format utilities to try. I am not to determined because it is an Asian (no offence!) brand, and they tend to not last long. I am also planning on replacing it with a 4gb version for better compatibility.

Running WinXP SP3, same thing seems to happen if I am on Win7, just without the error, explorer just kinda freezes if i try to access it, i haven't spent much time waiting.

EDIT:
If it helps, DS lite's with M3's do recognize and allow me to load a few pictures i managed to get on before this started happening (a few days after i got it and before my SD adapter died), but if i try a game it just doesn't loa... Read more
