Printing in Edge as opposed to IE11

Question: Printing in Edge as opposed to IE11

Windows 10, HP 6520 Printer
I use IE 11 for most of my work and when I access Print I have the print options as designated by my printer – one of them being to print in Booklet form.
If I use Edge, the print options do not include the ability to print in Booklet form.
How can I obtain the Full print options offered by my printer when using Edge?

Preferred Solution: Printing in Edge as opposed to IE11

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I never had this problem before I purchased Vista, but I get some vertical stripes on the right edge of the paper. These stripes correspond to the lines of words, meaning if there is a line of words then there's stripes but no stripes when it's a blank line. (I got these exact words from another poster that had the problem exactly to mine except I have Vista and it prints when I print online on EVERY page) - just as it says above. I have an HP1018 that did not work until finally HP put out a driver for Vista a few months after I bought my Vista machine. I've tried the rotated feature, the fastres1200 as well. Nothing has worked yet. HELP! (I use Internet Explorer)
Oh, also, it prints these black vertical lines if it's a picture OR text and ONLY ONLINE - gmail, ie pages, etc. It is fine with Word, etc.

Question: IE11 vs. Edge

Does anyone know of a good source that explains the difference between IE11 and Edge? Pretty much all I've gathered is that Edge isn't as compatible with as many web-sites as IE11. Why the introduction of a new browser? Why isn't it more compatible?

Answer:IE11 vs. Edge

Browser Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 10)

IE has become a failure and MS is trying to start over with a new browser, Edge. This is a ground up design of a new browser and it's looking good right now for a browser that's only about a year old. I've been using it for some time and it's been a good experience for me at least.

edge seems massively dumbed down, very bare options configuration compared to IE11.

From what I can see all of the following are missing.

No options to toggle tls 1.1 1.0 1.2 etc.
No options to toggle gpu acceleration
No options to set file cache location (I like to use ram disk)
No security zones
No tracking protection lists
No addons
No advanced cookie settings
No per domain settings
No options to adjust certificate verification
No options to adjust UTF-8 and IDN
No toggle for crash protection
No tab options

Basically edge feels like a mobile orientated app, as it uses the "modern" interface.

Is there a reason to use edge instead of IE11? aside from future proofing as I am assuming IE11 at some point will be obsoleted by Microsoft.

Answer:is it me or is ie11 better than edge?

Edge is still very early in it's development cycle.. give it time and it will get much better.

Oh and I'm using it right now to post here and I like it.. very fast and clean.

I am having problems on my laptop using things like Cortana across user accounts. The wheel spins and spins when I click on Cortana. I think the problem stems from the fact edge and IE11 cannot load outlook.com or go into things like account settings. It's only this causing the issue, all other sites work apart from these critical MS sites. I've tried changing DNS settings to alternates like google but nothing works to fix this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? On my other desktop PC I have no issues. All language settings and packs are correctly set as UK. Am at a total loss. I tried a restore point but that was no better. I've had this issue crop up intermittently ever since getting the laptop. Sometimes it works ok but after a while the issue will re-occur without rhyme or reason. I notice under family setitngs 'Can't connect to family settings, your user data may not be upto date' sometimes comes up too. It's as if the laptop is having trouble connecting to MS server some of the time

Answer:Outlook.com unreachable via edge and IE11

The machine seems to be having real problems signing into MS. For example if I launch films and TV I see lower left 'Can't sign in'. I think there is something amiss logging into the MS account causing all the issues. Store is slow and unable to update apps, always an error message after ages of acquiring license. I don't really want to have to try and create a new user acc given everything I have setup/installed

Is there a way of signing out of the MS account and signing back in because something is seriously screwed up

Hi all,
Requesting your votes to get the WebRTC in IE11/Edge:https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...port-of-webrtcWebRTC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All of Skypes biggest competitors are moving towards plugin-free browser calling features, and Redmond is finally admitting it has no choice but to do the same. In Microsofts own words: Its all about convenience imagine youll be able to simply open IE and make a Skype call to friends, family, or get real-time support for that new device right from your browser.
Both Google and Mozilla are way ahead of Microsoft in this area, both in terms of adding WebRTC features to their respective browsers and in terms of building plugin-free calling services that rely on the technology. In short, Skype is under threat, and Microsoft has finally decided to opt for an If you cant beat em, join em strategy.http://venturebeat.com/2014/10/27/mi...rnet-explorer/

To enable the new engine, just type ?about:flags? in IE11?s address bar, select ?Enabled? under ?Enable Experimental Web Platform Features,? and restart the browser. Enabling the "Custom User Agent" option will trick sites that nerf IE specifically into using the Spartan Edge rendering engine.

Has anyone figured a way to turn this crap off?

Yes, I know that Edge is Microsoft's "preferred" browser. No, I'm not interested. I need IE for work purposes because of legacy ActiveX components, so that annoying icon does no good.

I'm trying to get the new build ready for work on our domain, but considering all our employees heavily use IE every day, this is going to get on everybody's nerves and fast!

I tried copying the iexplore.exe from Anniversary Update (1607) to 1703 VM, and got an error about a missing ordinal in the EXE. So I'm thinking they added it that way - not seeing any settings, GPOs, or any other way to turn it off.

Even better when you're logged in as the local Administrator account which cannot run Edge or any other Modern apps but the stupid icon still shows up and is completely useless

Hi Folks
Be extra careful currently as there is STILL a problem in security with IE11 and Edge which can allow "unscrupulous" users to hijack your browser / do other nasty things - and currently NO A/V software can protect against this.

BE VERY CAREFUL if using IE11 / EDGE until Ms applies the patch. DO NOT RELY SOLEY ON YOUR A/V SOFTWARE - this won't protect you in this case. People are often lulled into a false sense of security after installing some extra A/V software -- this actually makes them MORE likely to fall into traps than people who only have the base WD stuff installed but browse carefully. !!!

Here's the article - from BBC (and Google) so it's not from some dubious journalist writing for a magazine hoping to make a few bucks.

Bad bug found in Microsoft browsing code - BBC News

I posted this note also in the Browsers section as some people don't read this part of the Forum.

We want to have a pdf file download on our website for IE11. PDF's seems to act differently on the various operating systems in the various browsers. Also how it is made has an effect: Microsoft 2010 vs Adobe DC on a Windows 7 OS. (we are also trying W10
os & MSWord10 to pdf) Most of our users are in IE. where how it is made makes no difference on a W10 machine. It just puts up blank pages for a long time. Any suggestions?

Microsoft 2010 doc W7 OS used to create a pdf loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, fast in Chrome and Firefox
Note - this is with Acrobat DC Reader installed - the Word version worked before the update
In Design to Adobe DC created pdf W7OS  loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- takes many minutes in IE11 (seems to hang midway), fast in Chrome, fast in FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, many minutes in Chrome, fast in Firefox

We're experiencing a printing issue that is causing me to tear out what little hair I have left... We started updating to IE11 at the beginning of the year and for a while all was roses and sunshine... But recently people are reporting printing issues - print preview shows a blank page, and printing anything from IE11 results in no jobs going to the printer. Printong from all other apaplications seems to be unaffected, only from IE11. I've tried all of Microsoft's suggestions, which so far have been pretty useless, given that they consider IE11 a "legacy" browser now and aren't putting any more work into it - things like video drivers, recreating the LOW folder under temp, etc... Nothing works. Well, not quite true - a complete reimage of the machine seems to clear the problem but no idea if it will come back or not - I'm guessing it's been caused by a patch, but then again if that were the case it would affect everyone, and not just a few dozen machines (running Windows 7 64 bit, and there's not much in common between them) Anyone else seeing this issue ?  Any thoughts ??

A friend purchased a Dell Win 7 Pro that came with IE11 installed, Lexmark x6675 all in one printer

Everything except the printer works fine.

At first I though it was a printer driver issue but this seems to affect other manufacturers.

Symptom:
Can only print 1 page at a time.
To print a subsequent page the print spooler must be stopped, all files in Windows/System32/Spool/Printers must be deleted, restart the spooler and 1 more page can be printed.

Installed the latest 64 bit driver from Lexmark. Tried a non-Lexmark driver with the same result.

This printer works fine from a Win 7 64 bit Home machine (mine) and his old Vista 64 bit machine.

I deselected the notify type popups for Print status and Ink level (Lexmark suggestion no help)

As this laptop came with IE11 I was reluctant to downgrade it to 10 as I did not think it would be on the laptop.

NOTE: The "Read Only" check box for the Printers folder (full path above) likes to reset itself to the checked mode. I would have thought the Printer would need full control permissions so as to delete the files once the page was printed.

NOTE: Dell and Best buy both offered to fix this 2 WEEK OLD laptop for $200+ (seriously??)

Seems this is a known issue with Microsoft AND various printer manufactures and started with IE11. (glad I shut off all Windows updates to my Win 7 Home machine some time ago)

Answer:Win 7 Pro & IE11 printing problem

I have several systems with I.E.11 and NO problems printing. There are many that use I.E.11 and not having any problems.

It sounds like the printer was not installed correctly to start with. Proper installation is to FIRST install the printer drivers and software and ONLY connect the printer when the install program tells you to connect. If the printer is connected first the install can fail or incorrect drivers installed.

I would suggest going back to the original Dell factory installation and starting over and installing the printer properly. Once the errors, such as you have occur usually there is no recovery except to start over by going back to the factory install. F8 at power on will access the Dell PC Restore and allow restoring to the original factory image.

I have posted this question/complaint on another thread, but I have been locked out. So I'll try again. Why can't Microsoft fix the Edge import process to reliably import all favorites from IE 11? I have tried all the workarounds including copying the IE 11 favorites to the <username>/appdata/local...directory and the editing the Registry. Nothing works. Why should it be so difficult for MS to implement a reliable Favorites transfer? What is the point of using Edge, when IE 11 is more friendly?

Any thoughts/suggestions? I have been using Windows 10 for over a year and the problem persists.

Answer:Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

Well, you didn't really tell us what problems you were having with performing the import.

So, let's skip the diagnosis and jump right to an alternative approach...

You might consider using a 3rd-party application called EdgeManage to see if you have better luck with performing an import operation from Internet Explorer.

My clean Windows 10 install only has 2 browsers: Edge and Chrome. I do not want to install IE11.

How do I get the saved favorites/bookmarks to be imported into Edge? There is no browse function. Edge only allows an automatic import, and that seems to require a functioning IE11 install.

Thanks,

Answer:Running windows 10 AEd . confused over IE11 and EDGE

Windows 10 comes with both IE11 and Edge built in. Edge is Microsoft's recommended browser and the one where all future development will concentrate. But the business world would throw up their hand in horror if IE was removed - many bespoke company Intranet applications will only work with IE because only IE can run Microsoft ActiveX controls. Indeed Microsoft's own Update Catalog website will only work with IE for the same reason.

You have IE if you really need it but MS don't really want you to use it, so it's hidden away on an infrequently visited part of the All Apps list. It's to be found under 'Windows Accessories'. The only other place you can find it is (ironically) in Edge. Open any webpage, click on the 'three dots' icon at the top right and one of the items in the menu that appears is 'Open with Internet Explorer'. However you get to it, once running you can pin it to the taskbar.

But finding IE isn't necessarily going to help you fix Edge's video problems, the settings you need to change may be in Edge, not IE. It's not clear what you mean by 10 A.Ed. Can you type Winver in the search box next to Start and run it. To be of more help we need to know the full set of numbers shown there for the version and OS build.

What I can tell you is that for my version 1607 (OS Build 14393.187) Edge has no such problems showing videos from MSN.

Hi there

While Silverlight is as everybody knows RUBBISH it IS a requirement for watching SKY GO on Windows. Sky GO on Android doesn't use it so It must be possible for Ms to have some other method of protecting DRM material.

So (and SKY GO is used by loads of SKY customers --particularly for Sport and Movies) as EDGE which (intentionally) doesn't support Silverlight people will have to keep IE11 for the foreseeable future - unless one wants to use CHROME - which I don't really like --YMMV on this one of course.

If Ms wants people to switch as quick as possible to EDGE they need to get current applications to work with it.

At least though SKY GO works on W10 !!.

(For those who don't know what SKY GO is - it's the service from the U.K Satellite Broadcaster SKY that people can use to stream programs on to their tablets, computers and phones - quite a good service BTW if you have SKY TV.

Good on some Rail services too in UK where trains have fast Wi-Fi available !!!

Hi there

What a DOGS DINNER of a mess -- SKY GO is still using Silverlight for DRM - however it's deprecated in Windows so sooner or later IE11 won't work with it. Edge of course doesn't work with it, and the non Ms browsers seem randomly to work or not work.

This is NOT an Ms problem though -- surely SKY could use similar DRM / Copyright protection to NETFLIX etc - since the ANDROID application works without any problem whatsoever they must be using something other than Silverlight.

I only suspect that SKY would rather get people to sign up to their SKY Q service -- it's fine but not very portable if you want to watch on a laptop instead of on a small tablet or smart phone.

If Ms would RETIRE Silverlight completely then SKY would be forced to fix SKY GO for their customers !!!!

I suppose the words Customer and Service should probably be removed from the English Language or relegated tp a History archive as it seems with pretty well ANY service one subscribes to there is just about ZERO customer service available any more.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:SKY GO - edge, IE11 and silverlight What a dogs dinner of a mess

Silverlight is expected to have a long life-cycle:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...arch/?c2=12905

compatibility issues are always on the agenda, given that rs3 builds are going deeper into underlying code
I suspect we may see improvements further down the line, at present I am getting hints that Edge is not fully compatible yet..

- no doubt, there will be more on this subject in the coming months..

Hello,

I am unable to access Sign in to your Microsoft account on my desktop computer running Windows 10 on a home Ethernet network using Edge and IE11. I am connected to the Internet through a Fritz!Box 7490 DSL connection.

I originally tried to solve this problem as a network issue - and it may still turn out to be one - but since I am able to log in to my live.com account using Google Chrome on this computer and from Linux and OS X machines on the network, I am now looking at the possibility that it is some setting shared by Edge and IE11 that is causing my problem.

A secondary effect of this problem is that I am unable to activate Office 365 products, because once I enter my account email address, the activation process wants to take me to live.com to confirm my subscription.

I have seen a number of posts on this and other sites about the "Hmm..." messages, and that's the message I am shown when I try to access login.live.com. Since, in all of the other posts, the issue was a complete inability of Edge to access the sites, this seems to me to be something different. Thus, I started a new thread rather than add to one of the others.

I will be grateful for any and all suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Cheers,
hussar

Yesterday I was forced to reboot my computer as MS installed some Windows Updates. After the reboot I can no longer access google.com's main page and some other https site like my companies Citrix Storefront login page. These all worked before the forced update. There were 2 updates installed KB3142588 and KB3140768. I uninstalled the KB3142588 and rebooted and everything worked again. Later in the day again MS installed something and forced me to reboot. After the reboot, the same problem came back. Funny thing now, is that those 2 updates are no longer there and were replaced by others. One of them I could uninstall and the other I cannot. I uninstalled the one (didn't write done the KB#) and rebooted and still the same problem. It only really seems to be issues with some https sites. I can't believe that there is a problem with googles certificate.

I get a "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". The security certificate presented by this website is not secure. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept and data you send to the server.

I cannot just accept the cert nor can I look at it like I could in Windows 7.

I would like to replace working certificate for the localhost (127.0.0.1), with an end date in a few months. (Win10 - Edge - IE11)
I managed to create a certificate (made a copy form the previous one with Powershell), and imported it in the list of Trusted Root Certificates. I removed the previous certificate.

But Edge (and IE11 since I suppose Edge has no support for this yet) is still pointing to the old certificate.
Does anyone know how to make the browsers point to the new certificate?

Microsoft has announced that (the embedded) Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10 was finally updated to 20.0.0.272

https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2755801
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3133431

Remark:   Based on the change in wording in the above document... as well as "confirmed" on my Win8.1 tablet... there has NOT (yet?) been a corresponding update for Win8.x

Answer:Updates 1/5/16 - Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10

So to summarize the Flash confusion at present:
the current Flash plug-in version (non-IE browsers) is 20.0.0.267
The current IE/ActiveX version for Win 7 and earlier is 20.0.0.270
The temporary [?] version for IE10/11 on Windows 8.x is also 20.0.0.267 ; an update was expected, but has not been released as of this writing (6 January 2016, 12:40pm EST).
The current IE11/ActiveX and Edge version for Win 10 is [allegedly] 20.0.0.272

Hello,
I'm encountering a problem on different computers.
Internet Explorer 11 and Edge are not able to open files from a shared folder located on the same computer.
For example, let's say I typed this "\\10.100.100.10\folder_1\DOC_FILE.doc" on the address bar.
The browser then shows : "This page can't be displayed".
When I display more information, the error "INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND" appears.
I have already tried to uncheck "Enable TCP Fast open" and it is still not working.
It seems like this problem cannot be reproduced on all IE11/EDGE browsers, and can be encountered on both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
Any ideas ?
Best regards

Hi there

Is there any way to copy the stored passwords / account information saved in IE11 to edge

I've a couple of account logins (not Banks I hasten to add) on some sites where I can't remember all the details -- logon automatically in IE11 but I need to try EDGE a bit more now and can't remember those details.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

You should be able to find them in Manage Web Credentials in Control Panel. If there are only a couple you can click on "Show" and it will tell you your password and then you can enter it in Edge.

Both Edge and IE store user id/passwords here I believe but I'm not sure how to make one browser use the credentials saved by the other or even if you can.

OS: Windows 10 Pro v.1607
Suddenly Pinterest.com fails to load in Edge; a few pins appear but then the page freezes. This same Pinterest account works fine in IE on this same computer and also loads fine in Edge on other computers. Here is what I've tried without success:

1. Clear browser cache and cookies
2. Delete all files in Edge recovery folder
3. Sign in with another Pinterest user account
4. Sign in with local account instead of Microsoft Account
5. Removed saved password for Pinterest
6. Reboot computer

Edge performs perfectly with all other sites. This issue is apparently limited to this one site in this one browser on this one computer. Pinterest support suggested we use IE Of course, but I like to figure out what causes these things to happen. It may be irrelevant but this issue was first observed following a batch of Windows updates on 12/13/16. The only one that looked like a remote possibility was KB3206632, but that was a significant cumulative update that I really do not want to uninstall. Furthermore, that same update was applied to another computer which does not exhibit this issue. I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

John

You've tried all the obvious things I would have suggested, but there is one more you could have a look at, the 'Use Microsoft Compatibility List' setting. This is hidden on a 'Developer settings' page which you get to by typing about:flags in Edge's address bar. Are the 'working' Edge PCs also on 1607? If so, compare this settings page on the Edge that doesn't work with the settings for one that does and see if they are different. If only the 'non-working' Edge is on 1607, then try turning 'Use Microsoft Compatibility List' on or off and see if it makes a difference.

I belong to a forum where we sometimes post a music video, and I never had problems until a couple of days ago seeing a video that was downloaded to the forum in full-screen mode.

It happens in IE11 and Edge browsers, and just started. A couple of other people are having the same problems. The error message actually blocks the title of the video, so you can't read who it is.

Any idea how to go in these browsers and change the permissions to view full screen for YouTube videos even if they're on another site? On YouTube, the full screen works fine.

I haven't changed any settings at all in the last couple of days. Any advice appreciated.

I setup a new user on a stand-alone Windows 10 laptop this weekend and noticed that most websites hang in both Edge and IE11.  I had a look at the user's rights and made sure that they were removed from the local USERS group and only were a member of
the Administrators group.  Then I looked at IE itself and found that if I ran IE as administrator, it worked fine, so I logged the user out and back in again, and still nothing.  I also noticed that IE has a setting to run with administrative privileges,
which I enabled and still nothing.  I thought at this point that it might be a website issue, or at least an ISP issue.  I tried the same sites with the first logged in account on the same machine and everything worked fine.
At this point I was looking at a user rights issue, I thought.  Then I tried the same sites with the new user using Chrome and everything worked fine.  So I'm at a loss as to what this might be.  I've check that IE is using software rendering
so that's not the issue.
Any ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
An example of a site would be to go to www.webex.com then try to log in.  The login page just spins and spins.

Ok so I am trying to print a DVD cover from NEATO Online Label Design Software - Formerly Mediaface Online and have not been able to. I've attached 2 images which display what I see. I can however print normally from edge meaning selecting "more options then print". I can use firefox on the same site and print with no issues.

Answer:Printing problem with Edge

EDGE's printing related problems are horrible, and getting worse since the new Win10 Threshold-2 release. Not only does it default to the ink-sucking "Normal" print output mode with every print attempt, but it's not even printing the page you want to print. On a 3 page document, I asked Edge to print the page that's displayed in the preview window, and that nutty browser prints the third page instead....in Normal (ink sucking) print mode...because I forgot to manually change it to "Draft". Holy crap.

Just when I was starting to get comfortable with Edge, it starts reverting back to a BETA state. All my "Top Sites" disappeared too, just 3 days ago, for no reason. Oh well...back to Firefox as default browser. sigh...

Printing is not working from Microsoft Edge. Printing is working from all other Windows programs (e.g. Word, Chrome etc). It does not matter if I try printing a web page or a PDF - same error. Same error also for all printers in drop down - no matter if it is an ordinary printer or a pdf writer.

No matter what printer I select in the Printer dropdown, it displays the text:

"We couldn't reach this printer. Make sure the printer is on and you are connected to the printer's network, or try a different printer."

I have a clean install of Windows 10 - not an upgrade.
I have tried:
* Run all troubleshooters - both for all printers and Windows Store
* Run "sfc /scannow" from elevated command prompt
Nothing seems to work. I can see a lot of these issues concerning Edge and printing - so it might be something MS needs to look into.
Any ideas?
This is the error screen - the same error occurs no matter what printer I choose.

Windows 10/Edge was officially released many months ago. But the EDGE browser has not improved its printing capabilities one bit. It's still a frustrating piece of chit when it comes to printing flexibility, and even accuracy. If you're looking at page 3 of a 6 page document and choose "Print Current Page", this crazy browser will print page 6!

I don't want or expect any replies. Just came to this thread to VENT.

Microsoft Edge does not include cost-saving printing options like 'Grayscale' or 'Fast Economic' printing seen in earlier browsers.
It would really speed up printing common items that do not need 'fine' or 'excellent' qualities (like directions, or notes not intended for others).
Why?

My new pc came yesterday

I did a little research and found that a i3 3220 ivybridge processor would fit the bill and not too expensive.

an asus P8H61-MX USB3 motherboard, windows 8 ready according to their website would again suffice and a 500 gb hdd would be more than ample for my modest needs.

Having gone that far I decided a case psu and dvd drive would be a good investment.

New wine in old bottles etc.

I found an online supplier who would supply this at an exceptional price.

So it arrived yesterday just before lunch, well packaged and undamaged.

I opened it up and the cheapish case looked ok.

Leaving my tea untouched, I quickly hooked up my monitor etc and put in the windows eight disk.

Well things were going too well up till now, the dvd drive began making a noise like a 1963 ford anglia with a dynamo bearing gone, and would not read at all.

Luckily I was able to butcher old pc and continue.

Got that all done and a quick phone call later it's validated and ready to rock.

At this point I popped the asus support disk into the drive, only to be met with a message, "asus support disk does not work with this operating system.

But anyway it's working, so after playing around I go to asus site and download all the updates I can and install them.

Everything seems ok now except the web connection, I am only getting less than 2 meg down as opposed to 13 in the old system.

So nothing ever goes smooth,

I downloaded lan, drivers, ethernet drivers from asus but... Read more

Windows 2008R2 active directory network using Group Policy and with all clients running Windows 10 Pro. For approximately the past year, when using Edge pretty much all content from a website could be printed... i.e. you fill out a form or want to print a particular screen and then print the screen via Ctrl +P keys. Lately, some websites that were once printable no longer send anything to the print queue. I have opened the print queue before attempting to print, press Ctrl + P and can witness that nothing is being sent. To make matters more difficult, on some of the client machines, Edge will print everything you tell it to. If using Firefox or IE, this doesn't happen at all and there aren't any printer problems when using any other Office application. The printers are standalone MFP style machines - copier / scanner / printer / fax.

Hello and good evening to you all. I am hoping to FINALLY find a solution to my printer problem.
I upgraded my windows 7 desktop to windows 10 about 9 weeks ago now. Everything has been working fine EXCEPT for one nagging issue. I am unable to print ANY web pages in using Microsoft edge. I have an Epson stylus SX235W printer. I an print using firefox with no problems, and I had my cousins Toshiba laptop that had windows 10 with Microsoft edge installed, and it prints wirelessly from Microsoft edge with no problems whatsoever.
Here is the message I get: We could not reach this printer. Make sure the printer is ON, and you are connected to the printer network or try a different printer.
I have re-installed my printer numerous times but STILL same problem.
Any suggestions please??

Answer:Microsoft edge!!!! No printing solutuion!!!

We had the exact same problem. By accident, I was able to work around it. When you see the message indicating that your printer cannot be reached, select a different printer from the list (such as the 'Microsoft Print to PDF'). Then go back and reselect the printer you really wanted to use ... at that point, I was able to print. Unfortunately, each time I want to print, I have to repeat this process. Hope this helps!

Hello!

I am having trouble printing all the width of some web pages. Some are OK but some miss characters off the right hand edge of the page.

I am using Internet Explorer 5.5 which has the Print Preview function. This page displays & prints all the contents, but, for example, http://www.google.com/u/NCSA?domains=ncsa.uiuc.edu&sitesearch=ncsa.uiuc.edu&q=html & http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimerAll.html does not!!!

I use an HP 895cxi & an OKI 4W+ with the latest drivers.

Any help on this would be appreciated - thanks!

I have a (paypal) UPS account for occasional shipping. I use Avery 8126 adhesive backed shipping labels (two to a page). Yesterday I used Edge for the first time to create the shipment and print the UPS Shipping Label. Bad decision as I was unable to only print the Label and not the instructions. The window that opened when I selected to only print the label did not have any option to print. I had to save the label window as a graphic and then open it with a photo program and print from that.

I had always used Internet Explorer and no problems printing. Next time I'll use Internet Explorer and avoid the problems.

Answer:Beware using Edge and printing UPS Label

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

No! Free versions do not necessarily provide you any support and may have a reduced feature set. But for the most part they are fully functional programs.

I have 2 printers on my PC. 1 is a receipt printer with 58mm wide paper. The other is an HP1410 with letter size paper. The receipt printer is set as the default printer since it is used most. But sometimes I need to do a print of the web page used for the
Point Of Sale. When I select the HP printer for the output, the page is printed but only 58mm wide instead of letter size. Likewise if I set the HP1310 as the default printer, then when I select the receipt printer as the output, it tries to print letter size.
IE does not appear to change the paper size when a printer other than the default is selected. It ALWAYS uses the paper size of the default printer irregardless of the printer selected for output.

Note that Chrome works correctly and will adjust the page size to the default for whichever printer is selected but IE will not
Also note that NotePad has the same issue.I haven't tested with edge but then it won't support Activex either.

I am limited to using IE because the credit card scanner used with the receipt printer requires Activex support. My only workaround now is to switch to using Chrome whenever I need to print to any printer other than the Windows default printer. There was
a similar old issue "IE7 Default Paper Size" that never really had a resolution. It reported a similar issue between printers with Letter and A4 paper sizes. Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the prints of website pages lose text on the right hand side. I presume there is some sort of setting that can be adjusted to correct this. I've looked at the printer settings but can't see anything there and anything more is beyond my limited knowledge. Is it a simple job?Thanks

Hello, would like to introduce myself my name is Justin.

I am having some troubles printing. We are a company, and 2 of our computers now run windows 10.

The problem i am having from Edge, Windows Live Mail. IE pretty much Everything is printing over-sized.
Emails is pretty much printing out everything but to large and goes off the page.

Edge prints showing the scroll bars and all which makes it look like an 'unfriendly print page' Also prints the Side Nav bars which it used to never do back on 7-8.

Printer is a Ricoh mp4000 and and another printer does both on both computers (different brands) and different printers.

I've pretty much tried everything Scale to fit don't fit page 75% is almost there but small and 50% is way to small to see. If anyone has any ideas and any help or suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you in advance,
Justin.

Answer:Printing is oversized, live mail, edge.

On my printer when I use Edge it lets me look and adjust it on preprint and you can set the margin either side then press print and it comes out as I want it.
You can also adjust the fonts to make them fit the page

I am running Windows 10 X64 Version 1607 with all current updates applied on a HP laptop (do not have model number handy).
I recently had to print out several PDF files and after printing the first one with no problem the second PDF file I needed to print would not print. I looked in the print queue and saw the first PDF file was still in the queue with the status of printing. It had finished printing. I tried to cancel it with no success. I then did what used to work, I rebooted my laptop. After the reboot the first PDF file I had just printed, printed again and the second one would not print. When I looked in the print queue after the reboot I saw the same thing, The file that had just printed was still there with a status of printing and the second one was waiting to print.
I then did the following:
1: In Windows services I stopped the print spooler
2: In Windows Explorer I went to %windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS and deleted all the files that were there
3: I then restarted the print spooler.
I was then able to print the second PDF file. I had to do these three steps every time I needed to print more than one file.
This seems to be a problem when printing from Microsoft EDGE as I have since downloaded Adobe Reader and have no problems printing more then one document from that app.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

ok.

i was infected with the msblaster worm making the rounds, and i thought i had that cleared up.

then, i was unable to run regedit, msconfig, or task manager for more than a second before the windows would close.

i posted this problem, and was given some advice, and now have access to regedit, msconfig, and task manager again.

however, i was unable to delete what i was told is the problem file: winlogin.exe

booting into safe mode, i searched and found the file, which i deleted to the recycle bin. emptying the recycle bin, the file promptly reappears in its original location.

i try deleting it from the registry, and again it looks good, but the entry reappears seconds later.

below is posted my log file from hijackthis.

i have also included a start up list, generated about the same time, in case any helpful information can be gleaned from that.

there appears to be an entry in the system.ini file explaining the problem, but being technologically inept, i am unable to help myself, and am looking for some more advice.

please help.

thanks very much for your time and consideration.

My hardrive (500gb) is nearly maxed out and I am not about to back up all that data. I will just kiss it all goodbye and back up the essentials. However I do keep reading "clean install of windows" and I have never heard of the opposite (dirty install??) Which leads me to ask Could I install 64 bit vista and somehow keep my hard drive data?

my Seagate external hard drive was reformatted to the "ext3" file structure by my Humax PVR. I want to reformat it to "fat32" which I have tried to do but the structure is now described as "exfat".
does that mean the external hard drive is in effect a "fat 32" format?

Answer:What is exFat as opposed to fat32 structure

If you want the "techie" stuff about exFAT, have a read of this article. It isn't FAT32 and does overcome many of the limitations of FAT32 where formatting as NTFS isn't suitable. Your drive partition is probably too large for Windows to be able to format it as FAT32, although a third-party "partition manager" or "disk management" software would do it.

I've had Windows Update disabled on my new Win 8.1 64 bit computer (bought in March) because I got tired of Microsoft making changes to my setup without permission.  But I don't want to be stupid about cyber-security either.

Is there a way to manually update only those patches critical to security without downloading all the "Bill-approved" flotsam that comes along with it -- and if so, how do I differentiate between the two?

For the record, I use Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.

Answer:Manual (as Opposed to Automatic) Windows Update

Hi zombiewhacker It's possible to change your Windows Update settings to "Check for updates, but let me decide when to download and install them". On top of that, I would uncheck "Give me recommended updates the same way you give me important updates". With these two options set, you'll be able to review every single updates before installing them. Important Updates are usually security updates for the Windows OS and other Microsoft products, so I strongly suggest you to install them. They usually start by "Security Update for...". If you want to learn more about the updates you are going to install, all of them have a little "Read more" option you can click and it'll bring you on their KB article on Microsoft's website.

Hi,

I have been using Chrome as my exclusive browsers for a while now, it is synced with my gmail account for two computers (work and home). When I was at work, I used to need to use 'https' to access most websites. Now, I no longer have that work computer. The problem is that all URLs are opening using 'https' instead of 'http' which is greatly affecting the usability. If I go into the URL, remove the 's' and reload, the page reloads with 'https.'

All of this was happening in Chrome, so I assumed it was a Chrome issue for me, most likely stemming from syncing with multiple computers. I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled, no dice. Same problem. I downloaded Firefox in the meantime, which is now also doing the same thing. Cannot think of why Firefox would have adopted this as well, when I installed I did NOT allow it to copy bookmarks etc from other browsers. Have I somehow made this a default in the computer and/or browsers? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Answer:All URLs open as "https" as opposed to "http"

In chrome, click on Tools, then select extensions. You don't have an extension called HTTPS Everywhere installed do you?

I found an Officejet 7310 at a garage sale for $10. It was printing white streaks. I printed a test page and made a color copy before I bought it. Then it sat on a shelf for a year and all the black nozzles plugged. I soaked the black cartridge in a puddle of ammonia overnight to dislove the dried ink which got it printing black again. Soon after it started printing wide dark grey bands, horizontally across the page occasionally.  You can read the underlying text.  Sometimes they begin with a narrow block of cyan and end with a narrow block of magenta.  These bands are the same width as the printhead nozzles, dark grey, and about half usually include blocks or bars of pure magenta/cyan/yellow mixed in. This has progessively gotten worse. Now it does this on every page.  The 'HP Print and Scan Doctor' says everything is OK.Suspecting the ammonia might have damaged the electronics, I tried a new black cartridge/printhead from OD, and the problem persisted. OD graciously accepted them back (it was a buy 2 special) and refunded my $50.  Do I want to roll the dice on a ($43) tri-color cartridge?I am wondering if anyone has seen this problem before.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Answer:HP Officejet 7310 Printing Dark Grey Bands Off Edge of Page

Looks like the prior owner was trying to sell a troubled printer possibly, why else would he or she sell it so cheap. I never buy modern inkjets at garage sales, and will only pick up Dot Matrix ones for older computers needing them etc as well as there is still a demand for them for businesses with carbon copy forms on tractor feed stock, so I have cleaned them up added an inexpensive ribbon and listed them on ebay and made $50 to $100 each on them in working condition.The one benefit to this printer picking it up for just $10 though is that HP for example has a trade in policy at Staples and some other stores where they will give you $50 off the price of a new printer of a specific price range. So you could use it for $40 off getting your $10 back. My brother used this policy to get $50 off of a new HP printer and the printer he used was being thrown away on the corner..LOLUnfortunately this model printer was never designed to be serviceable like the business laser printers etc. They were designed to be cheap to make the sale and then get you on the ink to make the profit. I doubt that changing color cartridge will fix this as for you already swapped out the black and that didnt help and the color observed is grey.

I have 7 email accounts on our Exchange server for different business and personal roles.  I have always used OWA instead of Outlook to segregate accounts on my desktop.  For quick logins I have been using "Keyboard Express"
Macro program  to insert USER and PASSWORD into OWA.   With some update applied in December 2015, Keyboard Express no long works on most of my Macro hotkeys because the IE hotkeys have taken precedence.  Such as ALT-H and other.
This same think happened to IE11 when I ran the Windows 10 upgrade 2 months ago, so I restored Win7 with a disk image to get rid of Window 10.
Is there a way to assign precedence between a Macro Program and IE11 Hotkeys ?

I was just thinking this. Ive been using wireless laptop mice for my laptop for 6 months and sure its great not having to drag the cord around or it pulling your mouse down the desk. But its alot more work than a simple laptop mouse with say a retractable pull out cord. You have to worry about the batteries for one, and your mouse all of a sudden becomes 2 parts - the mouse itself and the USB receiver. Then you have to worry about interference and whether the mouse glides well enough on certain table tops when commuting with the laptop. I just got a mini laptop mouse with a charger and it came with it and AAA NiMH batteries, but im contemplating if its even worth the money, and maybe just go back to the standard wired mouse.

For laptop, a wired mouse, just untangle and plug in, simple as that. Wireless mouse, you have to plug in the USB dongle, turn the mouse on, put mouse pad under neath etc.

Answer:Is a wired mouse better suited for a laptop as opposed to wireless?

I have no end of trouble accessing my media over ethernet from my LG home theatre. The usual "Cannot play this file." I suspect that it is wmp which is giving trouble. Difficult to test. I have tried Microsoft Fixit. It always says that it had things to fix. Sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't. I have a nasty suspicion I need to do a clean install, but would rather try and find some other solution.

If I use Nero MediaHome 4 it always works. But this has a bug (or is it my PC) that makes it rescan all my files every bootup. That is nearly 4TB worth. And it spends nearly 4 minutes every morning writing to my boot drive - not good for life expectancy.

The later versions of Nero MediaHome and Plex are no good - they share files, instead of folders. You try working your way through a list of 4000 files looking for a specific one using the remote for the home theatre.

Sometimes it works for days, then it stops again. And then I spend 3 days rebooting PC, rebooting home theatre, starting and stopping sharing, swapping the order of switch on, running Fixit, disabling and re-enabling wmp, etc., and then suddenly it works for a few days again.

Any suggestions?

And I never had any problems with the previous home theatre until it broke.

The first solution than I tried I use the method beginQuoteFileUnquoteUpload1 it created me a good boundary and good Content-Type but when I receive the file. The file is corrupted :(

var formData = new FormData();
formData.append('file', document.getElementById('file').files[0], document.getElementById('file').files[0].name);

function beginQuoteFileUnquoteUpload1(data)
{
    // Define a boundary, I stole this from IE but you can use any string AFAIK
    var boundary = "---------------------------7da24f2e50046";
    var xhr = null;
    if (window.XMLHttpRequest || window.ActiveXObject) {
if (window.ActiveXObject) {
try {
xhr = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
} catch(e) {
xhr = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
}else{
xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
    }else{
alert("Votre navigateur ne supporte pas l'objet XMLHTTPRequest...");
return;
    }
    var body = '--' + boundary + '\r\n'
             + 'Content-Dis name="file";'
             + 'filename="'+document.getElementById('file').files[0].name+'"\r\n'

anyone seen this one?
on booting up 8.1, lenovo z410, the first few attempts to use IE11 from the desktop fail. "cannot open page".
connection troubleshooter produces nothing.

go to APPS > IE and it works fine.

after using chrome and the tile app for awhile, IE11-Desktop will gain coherency and start working.

is there a way to reinstall the desktop side?

this is a clean install with little/nothing loaded on it, about to be deployed for real work so its important.
I've never seen this issue before on 7/8 so kinda lost/bewildered

Answer:IE11 Desktop fails connection. IE11 Tile App succeeds

Maybe can not get that page immediately, try setting blank page for start-up. (about:blank) and than as a start page.

Good Afternoon,

I am running into issues trying to upgrade to IE11. It looks like there are several issues in my CheckSUR Log, but I am not sure how to fix them. I have ran SFC /scannow a couple times and no errors have been identified. I have been having this problem for a couple months now and have just been using Chrome. I have also had several issues with the Aero Effects and Themes as I have to troubleshoot that multiple times a day.
I am receiving error code '3FD' from Windows Update regarding IE11.

Attached is my log.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Answer:IE11 Update/Install Issue - Trying to Upgrade to IE11

hello and welcome skohon now personally I would download IE11 Download Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 from Official Microsoft Download Center - it says on my machine I already have it if yours does the there is something quite wrong.

If it is not on your machine then you save the above to downloads and then do what is in this Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

I have done this myself on odd occasions and it saves you having to muck around with updates.

First you might like to run this though in safe mode if necessary
Disk Check and run the /f and /r switches if necessary.

Hello,
I have the odd requirement of needing to bind a gamepad key to a keyboard. I have an Xbox controller for PC. hen I hit "F2" on my keyboard I need it to simulate hitting "back" on the Xbox controller.

Thanks for any help

Answer:Binding gamepad key to a keyboard (as opposed to the usual vice-versa)

Download GlovePIE, you should be able to get something working there, as you can have it associate one device's input with another device's output.

I used it to play Dead Space because the set up sucked, heh.

Somehow I have enabled smart quotes for my PC. And I do not mean just in Office or Windows Mail, but in Notepad, the 'start search' area, in this message - everywhere.

In case some are not aware of Smart Quotes, it is the system which allows 'European' characters to be typed on an American (or other) keyboard. So in notepad if I type a double quote it does not appear but waits for the next typed character. If it is an e the two keystrokes result in an e with an umlaut ... ?. Similar things happen with single-quote and left-quote. For example

'e ==> ?
`a ==> ?
'c ==> ?
etc.

I think this came about from installing Canadian multi-language support, which I subsequently removed. I can find nowhere to switch this off. A registry search on smartquotes turned up a single flag in Windows Mail.

Any idea where to go to switch off this option?

Answer:How can I disable SmartQuotes for Vista (as opposed to Windows Mail / Office etc)

Hi Paulustrious,

I'm not certain the issue is Smart Quotes. From my research that's something a bit different and literally involves changing the appearance of quotes from straight to curly (or perhaps the reverse - I don't quite recall). I don't know what the process you're describing is called, but I believe I know where it is controlled and possibly how to turn it off.

Go to Start / Control Panel / Regional and Language Options / and check every setting in all four of the tabs to make sure it is all English (United States). Pay special attention to the Keyboard Tab, but do check all of them as I'm not sure where this is coming from - but I'm pretty sure this Control panel program is the key to resolving it.

The following tutorial may also be of assistance: Keyboard Input Language.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
