Preferred Solution: HP Envy 15 USB type-c to ethernet adapter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an XPS 12 9250 with an external Dell Adapter USB Type C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 470-ABQN.  This adapter is working for Ethernet and VGA, but the USB port is not working.  I suspect that I need the correct drivers installed.  When I plug in my windows phone or my android phone, both devices show that they are charging, but windows 10 does not indicate that it sees the devices.  If I plug in an external keyboard to the adapter's USB port, windows 10 does not react, and the keyboard lights do not come on (keyboard works fine on 2 other computers).
So, I'm pretty sure I've installed all the latest drivers that are listed on support.dell.com for the xps 12 9250, but it's hard to tell as there seem to be scores of them.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Can anyone tell me which specific drivers I need to get USB working?  Thank you

So i was playing the game League of Legends, then at one point ping suddenly raised, checked my connection and it was on wireless, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, at first i thought it was a cable problem or a modem, so i restarted my modem, but i used the same ethernet cable on a different laptop and it worked fine. Looked on the device manager to see what was up and the ethernet controller adapter wasn't there, only the wireless and Bluetooth was left. Looked for the newest realtek lan driver on the manufacturers website (lenovo) since i couldn't find one for windows 8.1, i downloaded the newest one from the windows 8 tab. Downloaded that, and when i tried to install it i get the error 'The realtek network controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable. So after this i went into the BOIS to see if deep sleep was enable there and it wasn't, so for good measures i enabled it, restarted and disabled, restarted deep sleep. Tried to reinstall but the same error pops up. Tried the intel system identification utility to see if it could detect my network card, but it just says not detected. Now i don't really know why this suddenly happened, i play league all the time with no problems. help please :/

Answer:Ethernet Controller Adapter disappeared from device manager, ethernet connection won't work.

Try restoring to a date where you think you have the ethernet working.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

Excuse me. It has been a long time since I was a computer tech but from past experience, it seems to me that if a bios upgrade allows a memory upgrade, it should also allow compatible memory from any major memort board provider. It may not be necessary to buy from Crucial and you may save money going a different direction. Has anyone tried this?

So, Comcast internet goes from the pole outside to our living room, into the Comcast provided black Motorola box, from there a cable brings the internet to this: DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router ( http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530 )

(and heres the issue):

From there, a ethernet cord goes into the atic, 75 feet to upstairs (my brothers room), and that cable goes into this: DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch ( http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=494 )

Currently the cable is crap. When bought, it was the type you have to put your own connectors on the end, and so whenever something bumps the wire in my brothers room, the internet up there goes out.

Our solution, is to now buy a new ethernet cord, 100 footer. I however am not POSITIVE what type to get. I know there is Cat5, Cat6, Crossover, the other version that isnt crossover....etc

What type of ethernet cable am i supposed to buy?

Thank you so much for the help, hoping to buy new cable tomorrow (sat) so the internet will work upstairs.

Answer:What type of ethernet cable can i buy/use?

just plain old cat 6 should be fine....

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10232&cs_id=1023215&p_id=2333&seq=1&format=2

in stores will be pretty expensive for 100ft cable (markup is huge)

and just normal "network" cable it will usually be labeled... dont need any type of crossover or anything like that

(to save a few bucks cat 5e would work too... )

Depending on your operating system, an adapter should give you ethernet through USB:http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/ADPU3GIGE/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shoppingen...I think you can only use the ethernet OR video out - not both simultaneously.

System: WinXP, Netgear Router DG834GLast week my router connection dropped out with the error message 'Network cable is unplugged'. I got back online with my trusty old speedtouch 330 and got some advice from a thread to alter the settings of my Ethernet controller. I have ULi pci Ethernet Controller and I changed the connection type from the default 'Auto sense' to 10 Mbps full_duplex and it all came back on! Can someone tell me what I have actually changed and why it should have happened. I've had the Netgear router DG834G set on its default settings (auto sense) for months & its been OK. An 'Internet Gateway' connection has also appeared in the network connection manager (It could have been there before, I don't remember!)I would really welcome an explanation.

Answer:Ethernet controller connection type help!

You've reduced the speed of the interface by a factor of 10. Check the cable for damage. Check with the manufacturer of your Ethernet hardware to see if there's a driver update. Internet Gateway in Network Manager usually means either the SSDP and/or UPnP service is running. SSDP is nothing to worry about, but you might want to check the configuration of your router to ensure UPnP is disabled (it opens ports automatically, a bit of a security risk).

Ok, I have spent countless hours and hours trying to get some sort of communication going between two home computers and still have my cable connection working. My first question is this; Is it possible to run two of the same ethernet adapters with two of the same drivers in the same case? One adapter to the net and the other adapter to the other computer.

Beginning of last week I installed a program called homeclick from Microsoft Networks after installing the hardware in both computers. The results was positive. Then the cable guy came along and, of course, for some reason my "on-board" adapter didn't want to work. So, he changed it to my newly installed ethernet adapter. I in turned, went and bought another adapter of a different name and driver and it turned out it had the same driver as my on-board. So this didn't work. Then I went and bought another adapter, same as the one inside the case and this didn't work. Then I went and bought another ethernet card, of a different brand, and of course this didn't work as well.

Meantime, I have installed and uninstalled drivers and the homeclick software. My worst fear is a buggered up registery from doing the reinstall so often. Is this possible? In other words, HELP!

Hello,
Let me first start off by saying, My overall goal is to share my 3g connection with a LAN Card. Sounds simple right? not in my setup...
Let me explain, I have a 3g modem that is plugged into a rack mount server. That server has 2 Ethernet cards in it (1 built in, the other pci). I also have a Cisco Dual Wan Router. The first ethernet card in it going to one of the WAN ports of the router, and the 2nd is connected to a LAN port of the router. That is the hardware setup. Now, I need help with the software portion of my setup...
I want to forward everything from my 3g connection to the first ethernet card (the one plugged into the WAN Port) while being totally separate/isolated from everything else, including the 2nd Ethernet card on the LAN side. Why? So that I can use 3g with my dual wan router as a backup, and still be able to use the server normally with the other computers running on my network. In other words I need to be able to access Network Shares, NAS, UPNP shares, etc. all on the rack mount server. I have tried Internet connection sharing and that causes some looping issues. I also found out that the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Driver should work, but all I could find is how to use it to share WiFi and not Ethernet. I have also tried Nat32, and I couldn't quite figure it out. So, is there some sort of software router that I can use to share 3g and ethernet that is isolated from my other ethernet card? I also don't mind paying for a program as long as ... Read more

I have used a Type 2503 Docking Station with my T60 without any issues for over a year.  Suddenly - I am unable to connect to a wired network (plugged into the Docking Station).  I can successfully connect to a wireless network while in the docking station.  I have verified that the network cable is 'good'.  I have disconnected the power and all the cables from the docking station - and let it sit for 48 hours - and then reconnected everything.  Every other component is working fine except the wired Ethernet on the docking station.  If I remove the T60 from the Docking Station - and boot up with the Ethernet Cable plugged directly into the side of the laptop - Wired networking works fine.  I connected my T60 to a 2504 Mini-Dock - and wired networking works fine.  So - the laptop will work with wired networking in a docking station, but not the Type 2503.    My docking station is out of warranty.  Any ideas?

Hello,  For the past couple months now, my wireless adapter keeps disabling itself and will not let me enable it. This happens at random moments throughout the day or when I change where I am sitting with my laptop ( ex. bedroom to livingroom). I tried to go into device manager and unclick the option that allows it to disable itself, but it keeps doing it. It will either: drop my wifi connection,  show I'm connected but no internet it available, or just say it cannot find any connections what so ever. I find this weird because my phone can pick up my wifi without any issues. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I had an HP Pavillion for a number of years and last week I found myself unable to connect to the network.  This was the first in a long line of events that ended up with the computer completely dying and me having to buy a new one. I now have a brand new HP Envy notebook and EXACTLY the same is happening.  I've been through all the recommended steps on the self help guide on here, made sure all the wireless drivers are up to date, and the troubleshooter is coming up with the following: Problem with wireless adapter or access pointA cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken. Thankfully I'm able to connect via an ethernet lead but this is obviously not a fix.  Why would this happen on a brand new computer and be an identical issue to what I had on my old computer? (the wifi and router are working fine in general, other devices connect with no problems). Please can someone help me, I have a lot of work to do this weekend and the helpline isn't open until Monday. (Please bear in mind that whilst I'm confident in using a computer, I'm not at all confident in doing back end stuff and working with registry keys or anything like that). I'd appreciate some guidance,Thank you, Caroline

Answer:HP envy 14-3090ca spectre notebook adapter

Hi, Do you mean the cord or the adapter ? Part number for the 65W Travel adapter is 677154-001 which is NOT available in the part store now. Please try to use part number and search elsewhere such as      https://www.amazon.com/613149-002-613149-003-613949-001-677154-001-Adapter/dp/B0159XOB2U For other part (the cord itself) any good electrical shop in Canada should stock it. Regards.

I got an HP Envy x360 (model: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/Laptops/hp-envy-x360-convertible-laptop--15t-touch-iris-gfx-w0z96av-1) a few weeks ago and I bought the HP USB-C to VGA Adapter (http://store.hp.com/NetherlandsStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=N9K76AA&opt=AC3&sel=ACC) to connect the laptop to an old VGA display. When I connect the adapter to the laptop, I first get an error that the USB device is not recognized:  This issue resolves itself fairly quickly, however, but after that every few seconds the following error pops up:  Trying the laptop and adapter combination with another display and VGA cable results in the same behavior. However, the adapter works with both displays when connected to my Lumia 950 phone. The second error also talks about a "DisplayPort connection", but the adapter is for connecting via VGA... Has anyone some ideas for solving this problem?

Today I brought my computer out of sleep mode by opening the cover, which is what I do every morning and I noticed that the wireless indicator light on the F12 key was red/orange, which means it is not functioning.  This has happened several times before and rebooting the PC always resets it.  This time however, it did not reset.  And when I clicked on the diagnosis link, it said the problem was that I didn't have an ethernet cable plugged into my computer.  The existence of my Internal WiFi connector was gone.  I plugged in and configured a USB WiFi adapter (Netgear N600) and it worked fine.  But I would rather have the internal WiFi adaptor that was installed on my PC working again.  Thanks for any direction and help anyone can give me.

Hello all,   I recently purchase a refurbished HP ENVY dv7-7243cl. Overall I am happy with the product except for one massive issue. I am having severe issues with the range of the on board network adapter. I am holding the notebook right next to the router and I am only getting 3 out of 5 bars. It is not a router issue as I have several other devices that connect perfectly from the other side of the house. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the driver to no avail.

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

Answer:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

I had to replace the power cord (from the outlet to the box) on my AC adapter. It worked fine for awhile; but now I'm getting this message on boot up. "Warning. The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance. Please check AC adapter is connected properly. Remove AC adapter and plug it in again." I tried plugging it in again several times to no avail. Then my virus program (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14) popped up a window to start in Safe Mode to fix the problem. I know how to start in Safe Mode but don't know what to do once I'm in there. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi all, I have a laptop with no ethernet port. On e-Bay I find many adapters titled "USB to ethernet" but only one used one titled "ethernet to USB". I need to access the web from our home router which is supplied through ethernet cables. The two types I find seem different but I'd really appreciate clarification since I can't see a reason to go from USB to ethernet. Seems backward.

Question: ethernet adapter?

Ok, I've been connecting to the internet via usb this entire time. I have the option of connecting via ethernet because I have the port but I dont know if I have an adapter. After being over my sisters house who has the same DSL I do but her connection is a bout 10 times faster than mine, I noticed she is connected through the ethernet.

I wanted to see if I could connect, Im not sure if I did it the right way or if I even have the right equipment because when I disconnected the usb and connected the ethernet, this required that I insert my DSL disk to "update" my connection preferences.I did so but it kept freezing and wouldnt allow me to access the option to change connections, after about the 7th attempt it finally told me that I dont have a ethernet adapter but in my attempts to make the connection first with the usb, I disabled the Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller (dont know what this is or if it has anything to do with the ethernet) so that might have a role to play in it maybe?

It was a really big hassle getting it back to usb because I couldnt get it to work the other way and then it just didnt want to work at all.

So my question is ~ Is there something I can use that will tell me if I have an adapter already? or is there a specific way to connect?

Any other info, I gladly provide. Thanks!

Answer:ethernet adapter?

Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Network adapters. Here you should be able to see if that item has a red X or a question mark; if it has a X, means is disabled, so go to properties (right click) and enable it, this should fix your problem. If yo do not have the Network adapter item there, means you do not have one, so buy and install one. Hope this helps.

I've been looking for an adapter with this type of connection but have not been able to find one? Does anyone know if it even exists?Oh, almost forgot my printer is a Brother 120c, not the best I know!Kevin.

Answer:USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter

It appears that this is NOT a "network printer", it is a USB one, so you won't be able to connect it into your network by ethernet, even if you can get a USB-B/RJ45 adapter. Also, if you were to install a Network Print Server with a USB port, it might only support the printing function of the device, not scanning/copying.

My question is that can you use a usb to ethernet adapter instead of a nic to connect to the external modem? I don't have a nic and my motherboard only has two slots which are both being used. Thanks for any feedback.

Answer:USB to ethernet adapter

The free modems usually only come with USB connections anyway. It is unlikely that any broadband ISP will offer an ethernet only modem/router.

I hace a cable modem, 3 meg, Connected to a Belkin wireless router, then a RJ-45 cable connecting to the NetGear Adapter.

The card seems to have installed, I have also found the CD and updated the drivers. I then went through the network connections, and set up a network connection for a cable connection thats always on No password needed. I had it notify me if conneceted or not connected.

It says that its connected, however I cant access the internet? I threw on my belkin wireless adapter, and connected no problems, The rj-45 cable works with a different network card. But for some reason it does not for this card?

Any Ideas?

It does give me IP addressess.

Question: Ethernet Adapter

Good Day,

My DSL service has been working wonderfully for 5 months. Had a problem with my computer and had to scan disk. Since this has been done, my winipcfg will not recognize the Realtek Ethernet Adapter. I removed it and reinstalled, etc. What have I done here. I can get connected to the DSL, however I have no access to E-Mail or Internet, from that computer.

Please Help! Thanks gf

Answer:Ethernet Adapter

Hi there

Here's something to try...

I'm assuming that in "winipcfg" the dropdown is not showing your NIC as an option.

right-click on Network Neighborhood-select properties
on the installed components list make sure that you have the following...

Client for Microsoft Winfows
Realtek ethernet adapter
TCP/IP

If you have any VPN adapters, remove them. also removew any AOL adapters and all protocols other than TCP/IP

reboot and check it out. If the NIC now shows in WinIpCFG, do a "Release ALL", then close out and power system completely off. Then cycle the power on the DSL Modem, wait for it to come completely back up, then reboot the PC
Good Luck!

Hello Forum, I've just managed to break the head of my HP Envy 14 Spectre (14-3011tu) power adapter cable.  The power adapter is one of those HP travel adapters (65W - 574487-001) with interchangable heads.  I called HP Australia and various HP suppliers to see if I can get a replacement interchangable heads or even a whole replacement adapter however no one has them in stock (well they have the base power pack but not the correct head and no one know when they'll get extra stock).   Do anyone know if there is a similar HP laptop that uses the same long 4.7mm adapter head as the HP Envy 14 Spectre (14-3011tu) ? I'd like to buy one so that I can hack together a new interchangable head cable whilst I wait for new OEM stock to come in.   PS. I've already ordered a few of the aftermarket adapters off eBay that clam to fit the Envy 14 Spectre however they are a few micronos too thick to fit in the socket.  Image below just in case you're having the same headaches as me.  http://support.tmg100.com/HPEnvyPlusAM1.jpg Cheers!

Answer:Replacement HP Envy 14 Spectre (14-3011tu) power adapter cab...

Hey grainass, This is a hard part to find for some reason. I have confirmed personally with customers that this part number is the correct replacement for the DC cable that connects the power brick to the notebook.  687530-001 Click here to go to the HP Parts Store. At the top you'll see the Americas tab highlighted. Click on the Asia Pacific tab and choose Australia below. On the next page, in the Search by part number box, type in 687530-001 and press Enter. Then you can order it online or call the HP Parts Store at the number listed. Really hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!  -------------------------------------------------- Anyone else looking for a Spectre 14-3xxx replacement DC cable can use this part number as well. Just choose the appropriate country on the HP Parts Store link and post any questions you have.

I have had this laptop for 3 years now. I have tested the ac adaptor with another laptop and it is working fine, when the power button is hit with the battery inserted, the light by the power port will flash even when the adaptor is inserted, any ideas on how this can be fixed?

Hi! I am using HP ENVY 15-j002ex Notebook PC running windows 8 and suddenly my wireless connectivity is gone. The WiFi button does not switch on(stays red) in flight mode on and off. There is no wireless network adapter driver in the device manager. The troubleshooter says to connect an ethernet cable. I've tried many things and have tried to install drivers from the HP website but they don't install or are not being shown in the device manager. Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:HP Envy 15 Wireless Network adapter driver missing

Hello HP. I have the same problem as described with an HP ENVY 15 ah150sa. Brand new out of the box and the WiFi regularly drops, the adapter disappears and reappears then no networks are found. Only a reboot will resolve... Tried disabling bluetooth, as per other threads, checked that the driver versions are the same as the latest on the HP site, can't find a solution that works. Would rather not have to take it back for a refund... but there are threads on this subject going back to 2013 which are unresovlved so it's looking likely.

Hello,            I have a HP ENVY laptop. Product Name: 6-1030sq. It used to run on win 7 x64 Home Prem OA, but i reinstalled the OS and now runs on Windows 10 64-bit. I am experiencing sudden, frequent loss of my Wifi connection. When it gets disconnected I don't even get the Connect To slider (which slides from the right side of the screen and shows the list of networks) on clicking the network button at bottom right corner of the screen. I need to restart my laptop to get connected again and after 5-7 minutes, I lose it again. Sometimes when i restart it, it doesn't connect at all, but after another restart it works fine.           I have tried many suggestions about editing the Power Plan to maximum performance and unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" but nothing seems to work.          The network driver is Broadcom 802.11n. I have also updated the driver and the date of the driver is 02.06.2013              I don't know if this is a problem of Windows 10/ HP. Please help.

Hi: There is no W10 driver for the model Broadcom wlan card your notebook has. The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if installing the latest W8.1 driver helps... 6.30.223.267 Rev.A (17 Sep 2015) ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72931.exe

Dell Inspiron 5755 with a 17" display, running windows 10 and the latest BIOS version from Dell(as of 3/2/2017). AC adapter power supply is a 45W, 19.5V, 2.31A, Dell power supply. It works fine and is not damaged, (lite is lit on the brick and proper voltage out verified by using a VOM). When running on battery for a while and the battery low window pops up, I plug in the power supply and immediately get a message "The AC adapter power type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge". I ordered and tried another Dell 45W power supply. Same issue. I right clicked the battery icon in the system tray to display the Dell Power Manager. It says my battery is fine, 100% normal. As I unplug and plug in the power supply while the Dell Power Manager is up, I can see the word "charging" displayed in the management window for a bit, but then it disappears. The battery Icon itself shows that the power supply is plugged in as it displays a male electrical plug. If I remove the battery the laptop powers up fine. The BIOS in this machine does not display the charging device information, just that the battery is 100% normal. While in BIOS I hit the F9 key to reset basic bios functions to no avail. I also tried uninstalling the AC adapter and ACPI- compliant control method battery and re-booting to no avail. I can get the original power supply to charge a low battery by continuously unplugging and plugging back in the connector t... Read more

Answer:AC Power Adapter type cannot be determined

Since you've tried a new Dell adapter to no effect, next suspect is the DC jack -- replace this part:

If that doesn't solve the problem, it's the mainboard that's bad.
