Device descriptor stall on windows, works on linux microchip mla

Question: Device descriptor stall on windows, works on linux microchip mla

I'm designing a USB device with Microchip's MLA v2015-08-10 on a PIC24FJ128GB202(http://www.kynix.com/Parts/158263/PIC24FJ128GB202-I%2FSP.html). The device works as expected on my Fedora 23 Linux system. It enumerates and is recognized as a HID device.
On Windows it does not enumerate. I tried a Windows 10 laptop and Windows 7 in a virtual machine on my Linux system. Both say: "A request for the USB device descriptor failed." (Code 43)
When I analyze the traffic with Microsoft Message Analyzer I find this error: Get Device Descriptor - USBD_STATUS_STALL_PID
I find no solutions online and have no idea where to look next. I assume my code on the PIC is working fine since it runs on Linux. It's clearly not a driver issue since I can't even get the device descriptor. And it isn't a problem with the system since it fails on different devices with different Windows versions.
Does anybody have an idea where to continue my search? An explanation of the differences in USB device enumeration between Windows and Linux might already help a lot.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

Hi onyx,
This error means a device driver notified the operating system that the device failed. This circumstance can occur if the device hardware fails or if the device driver fails.
Have you tried to update the device driver for test?
Please follow this guide trying t resolve this issue:

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Hi, I have been going crazy, Windows 10 does not recognize my DS3 controller as a Playstation 3 controller, it shows "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" every time I plugg it in, so I can't install any of the softwares that make PS3 controllers work like x360 like MotionInJoy or SCPToolkit because these software can't see my controller in order to apply the custom drivers on, has anyone run into this?

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

After installing Windows 10 anniversary update, I get the following error in the device manger: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Tried uninstalling and restarting PC. Reinstalled Windows made from media tool. Nothing fixed it. Did a google search and nothing has worked. No USB drivers on the PC maker's website.

Any ideas?

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

Answer:Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

hi kmugal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

The issue that your having is most likely the one discussed in this article.

If you have tried the USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0 (x1) ports with the same issue, consider the following:
1. Unplug all USB peripherals connected on the machine
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes (reboot if necessary) and try the USB devices.

If the problem remains, consider going back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh or Reset to isolate any issues on the OS level.

Regards

I am running the Lenovo Ideapad y510p (the GT755m SLI version). I had my USB mouse and my flash drive connected to the 2x 3.0 USB ports (the ones on the left), everything was fine until suddenly both of them stopped working. When I try connecting the flash drive nothing happens, however, when I try connecting the USB mouse it says Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in the device manager, windows error message "USB Device not recognized" also pops up in the bottom right corner. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

4.)Front ports of my PC doesnt work if i plug an USB in it doesnt do anything (it does work perfectly in the back)

I don't know though if i should make more threads but they somewhat relate to each other,
that's why they are just in 1 thread. If you need to ask any question, need pictures , my specifications or anything else just ask me.
Thanks in advance!

When my girlfriend connects external USB device to any of the USB ports on Windows 10 Home she gets message:
USB Device Not Recognized.
She can not charge USB device via USB port.
I went to device manager and under USB Controllers I see following:
Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I tried some tricks I googled for this message but none of them returned result.
She didn't get any of the drivers with this device which needs to charge.
What should I do to be able to charge this device via USB?

Answer:USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed

Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port.
Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has problem.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows.

Right-click on the device and select Uninstall from the context menu.

After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.

The problem can be caused by faulty USB driver. In this case, updating driver would fix the problem.

Obtaining Hardware ID's to help Identify Hardware
- Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Expand the "Unknown USB Device" category by clicking on the + sign to the left of it
- Right click on the "Unknown device" (if there's more than one, do this for all of them) and select Properties.
- Then select the Details tab.
- In the dropdown box, select "Hardware IDs" - and match the info to one of the following descriptions:
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VEN_ and DEV_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
this is a PCI device and we'll look up the information at http://www.pcidatabase.com

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. Hello everyone,
i hope you can help me sorting out this issue that is causing me a hard headache at the moment.

I've bought this new Lenovo Z50-70 laptop with windows 8.1 preinstalled on it. Fresh new.

I'm trying to connect via usb a guitar audio interface (Line6 POD HD500) so i installed the drivers via the .exe setup file i downloaded from Line6's site.
The device worked fine on my previous HP pavilion with windows 7.

Now when i completed the installation, i connected it and i had this error:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
I used slimdrivers to update all the other drivers, in case it was a conflict causing the error.
I checked via command prompt with command "pnputil -e" and i saw a driver from the vendor of the device listed, so it is installed correctly i think.
I tried all USB ports i have, 3.0 and 2.0 on one side of laptop and 2.0 on other side.

When on device manager, if i click update drivers and choose the "let me pick from a list of device drivers.." i don't see the company name of the device.

i saw that another guy posted a really similar problem on SevenForum and he figured out how to force windows to use the drivers but he didn't post the solution.. Here is the post: Can't get Windows 7 x64 to use the drivers I've installed repeatedly Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

I'm experiencing slim keyboard not being recognized in the Windows 8.1
The keyboard was working fine until just one day it just stopped working.
I tried factory reset literally 8 times along with most recent BIOS update and dell's recommended update software. + power setting --> disabling power saving on USB
It still come up as unrecognized each time even with fresh reinstall.
I was wondering if this is a hardware issue or just software bug from factory reset.
I don't think there is a available driver for this kind of problem is there?

Answer:USB Device Descriptor Failed??

Hi there. Run the troubleshooter within the Settings app > Update & security > Troubleshoot.

You may also want to look in Security Center > Device performance and health.

Most of the threads on this error are old, (2015) so I am starting a new one. I only notice it when I happen to be in the device manager. I have no problems with any of my connected USB devices (that I have observed).

I have tried uninstalling it, and rescanning and it pops up again, so apparently it is something that is connected. Without disconnecting All of my USB devices one at a time (which I am wont to do, as it is not bothering me, other than that it is there!) It has been there for quite a while, so apparently is not anything new being connected.

Is there no way to identify WHAT is connected to this port, or even what port it is?

BTW, it only shows up in the USB Controller section, no matching errors in any of the devices themselves!

Curiouser and curiouser...

Answer:USB device descriptor failed

Hi.
In Device Manager, right-click the problem device and select Properties. In the General Tab, it gives the error code. In the Details tab, use the arrow down to select Hardware Ids. Then google the ID to identify. Could be an internal USB connection to something like wifi, BT, or card reader. Those cables do go bad sometimes.
Example: USB\VID_046D&PID_0A04&REV_0007

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hi all I have a Ideacentre K430 running on win 8.1. Used to run on win 8 After i upgraded to win 8.1, my WD My Book 4TB external Harddisk shows the problem as shown above. Used to be running fine and it can work on other win 7 or 8 terminals. Any way i can solve this. I have contacted WD but they say its not a device problem so they cannot help. I contacted Mricrosoft after some remote troubleshooting they told me i need to download the latest motherboard drivers which i did. But all solutions do not work. I tried googling for solutons and have tried microsoft message analyzer also to no avail. I am running out of options. Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance. RegardsAndrew

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Answer:Device Descriptor Request failed

Hi timniko. Welcome to the TenForums @timniko

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

Hi,
I have an USB device (an embedded system that I am developing) and associated driver.
It has one interface with two endpoints (BULK IN and BULK OUT) and control endpoint.
When I connect that USB device to PC, then device driver is getting associated with device and I am able to use the device.

Now I have updated USB device descriptor to have one more interface (all other information like VID, PID are same and also existing interface is not altered). Now it has: one control endpoint, one interface with BULK IN and BULK OUT and another interface
with BULK IN endpoint.

When I connect this USB device with modified device descriptor, USB driver is not getting associated and giving me error code: 10 (0xA).

Device driver software is from 3rd party.

Now I am not sure if error is thrown by windows kernel or device software.
Please help me in debugging this.

Any log files/events that can be enabled when device is connected and how driver is loaded, what checks are performed by kernel to load the driver etc (I believe it only looks at VID and PID).

FYI: Same setup works on Linux environment (looks liek linux just ignores this additional interface added)

Rgds,
Venkat.

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

Would really real... Read more

You can mark this thread as SOLVED!

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.

Was trying to plug my Toshiba 1tb External hard drive in to retrieve music off it and it wont recognize the drive. Device manager revealed the yellow triangle and error message. It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

Windows 10 Home

Hi, I just bought a new HDD today and freshly installed windows 10 and have ran into this problem: when I plug in my wireless XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad from Speedlink I get the "Unknown USB Device (Invalid Configuration Descriptor)" error. I'm adding the screenshots.

This device worked perfectly on windows 7 yesterday, so the controller definitely isn't damaged physically and it does work on a different PC(windows 7).

I have two WD "My Book" 3.0 USB drives.  Previously, they both worked fine.  Now one of the two drives is getting a device descriptor request failed message.  The other drive is fine.  I have tried different 3.0 inputs on the system both in back and on top in the front.  Any ideas on why the same drive isn't working?  I have tried both on other systems and they work fine.  The other systems I have tried them on are WIN7 and WIN 8.1.

Answer:usb 3.0 drives getting device descriptor failed error

Hi there slovey  Have you, by any chance tried with another USB cable? I wouldn't make sense to change things as the device works on other systems but it wouldn't hurt to use the other My Book's cable with the problematic one just to rule this out as a potential cause. I would also check this thread and see if the offered solutions there help.  Keeping your OS, BIOS and drivers up to date is also an important part of the troubleshooting process. I'd also check if there's a new update specifically for the driver responsible for the communication between the drive and the system. Post back if you need more info! Captain_WD.

having trouble installing an Epson WF-2530 printer onto win 8.1 machines.
i have 3 win 8.1/64 bit machines. it will install and is working on only one.
used the same installation disc, and install process, and cables with all 3 machines.
googling the problem shows plenty of stuff mainly updating drivers. done that, still no good.
Not sure why it works on only one, a generic clevo laptop w550eu.
thoughts???
the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

Hi,
I sporadically gets the "USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed"; however, while I have 6 USB devices connected, none of them seem to be the cause of the error. When I use devmgmt.msc to get the Hardware Ids, the value is simply "USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE". I use TARGET software to control two joysticks and a rudder. (Besides these three USB devices I have a keyboard, a mouse and a TrackIR 5). In some instances everything works even though I got the error but in others instances none of the joysticks are working as expected. Sometimes restarting the computer helps or uninstalling the "mystic" USB device, however the problem always reappear and I would really like to get rid of it permanently.
Anyone got some idea what could be causing this?
I have updated all drivers but it did not help.
Thanks,
Klaus

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Lenovo B50-70 Laptop. It has 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports.

It started when I removed a USB mouse from the USB 2.0 port. I had a message flash up saying
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
If I go to Device Manager and 'Uninstall' the device, then plug the mouse back in and 'Scan for Hardware changes' it works. However whenever I unplug it I get the same error. I've tried doing them same thing and plugin in other devices, (my phone, a memory stick) and The error comes back. If nothing is in the port and I scan for hardware changes I get that message again.

Any ideas how to fix? It is almost as if the machine doesn't detect the mouse is unplugged and thinks it's gone wrong. The USB 3 ports are fine.

I've tried...
Checking for Driver/bios updates.
Cleaning the port.
Uninstalling all USB Drivers and reinstalling

Hi All,

Thought i would make this thread as i see others with the same issue. I have just built a new PC and i get the following error randomly.

"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The issue with this is i don't actually connect anything to the PC. the message just appears randomly then fixes it self on reboot only to happen again later.

I have reinstalled USB Drivers and the issue persists.
I only have two devices connected to the PC:
Razer Death Adder Mouse
Logitech K350 Wireless Keyboard.

Hello Ladies & Gents.

I would like to ask for your assistance on this slightly annoying problem.

I have 1 pair of Razer Megalodon USB headphones, on the start up of Windows 8.1 these headphones are not detected correctly. The only proof I have of this is in the device manager displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

(Please see attached screenshots)

Once the device is disconnected and reconnected device manager then displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
USB Composite Device

The device then shows in "Audio inputs and outputs"

Cheers,

Mr Collective

Answer:Razer Megalodon - (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Razer is well known for BSOD drivers and problems, otherwise. (And taking very old drivers, changing nothing at all, giving it a new date and then claiming "Compatible!" with new OS.)

Perhaps give a shot with uninstalling their software, rebooting, the re-installing.

Make sure using the latest.

When all is said and done, you might just have to live with it.

Can't hurt to make sure chipset drivers are up to date. If Intel chipset, search their driver site for "Inf"

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

Last night with some help from cryptodan,I managed to get ubuntu installed without a problem.
Keep in mind this laptop has a windows 7 sticker so yeah it doesn't have secure boot.
If your laptop or notebook or desktop came with windows 8 its more than likely it has secure boot.
Therefore it will not work due to the security being really really aggressive.

I am having trouble with downloads or streaming, whether it is with I.E 7 or Netscape, or from Limewire. I am using window vista home premium on brand new computers already installed, with all updates installed. All downloads and streaming video either stop just after onset, or at some point after at times at the 99 % complete time.
Per HP and Gateway tech support I have; reset I.E 7, deleted all cache, browsing histories, shut down all firewalls, phishing, spam and it still won't complete a download or stream. I have tried it in I.E 7 safe mode and computer safe mode, no luck. By the way the complete loading of this page has stopped also, the green load bar has been stuck near the end since I started typing this note, saying waiting for HTTP. any suggestions. From anyone. It does this on both my laptop and this home computer, both Vista less than 60 days old. This computer runs Norton, laptop run Mcaffee. The techs are dumb founded, they told me to contact Microsoft.
Now I am told by Microsoft that they will only assist me if I pay them $80.00 per hour for their tech support, on a computer less than 60 days old.
I have been on computers since early 80's. While trying to send this email to Microsoft the transfer stopped shortly after beginning. By the way I am using Verizon DSL no problems prior with my old windows xp system . This is a real scam. Why can?t we have the old xp systems still for sale, I would trade these in, in a heart beat.

Answer:Downloads Stall, Streaming Stalls, Internet Pages Stall Using Vista

Odd that it would be both PC's.

HP's and Gateway's have different sets of pre-loaded software, so those two systems are certainly not identically configured, that's for sure.

Question:

have you re-set the DSL modem? (Unplug/shut off for a moment or so, then power it back on and wait until it re-connects.)

OK,
My config is HP G6 1075 SA with W7 Home Premium 64 bit pre-installed. It was working well until last week when I decided to install Debian Linux. I am no N00B to Linux and have installed it probably 100s of times. Debian installed and booted well but Windows BSODed with an error 0x0000225 cannot access drive. I formatted C and attempted to reinstall Windows 7 but it is unable to detect the HDD. I accept terms of license and move on to the point of choosing disks but nothing shows up. (There is an option to choose drivers. Where do I locate them? The HP website isn't helpful and I can't even find my product let aside the drivers)

I have already tried :
1. Partitioning an NTFS file system in Debian. Doesnt show.
2. Deleting a partition in Debian and attempt to see the free space in W7 Installer. Didn't work.
3. Try to do the BIOS setting thing (Change SATA option from AHCI to compatible or something). I could find no such setting in BIOS. The BIOS was severely limited with only option of switching on fan.

What do I do ?
The chipset is Intel HM55 if that helps and harddrive is SATA 5400 rpm 500GB.

Answer:W7 installer doesn't detect SATA after Linux, Linux works smoothly

I have an older Dell D600 laptop that I'm trying to get to work again. I need to reinstall the operating system but I cannot seem to get windows XP to work. It will install just fine, but as soon as it gets to the poing where the installation restarts and windows starts for the first time, I get "the blue screen of death". (genuine windows CD I might add)

I've tried all sorts of things to get around it, but nothing has worked. Then I tried running an Ubuntu live CD in the laptop. Works great! In fact I'm typing this post on it right now.

Why can't I get windows to work?! The hardware seems ok. I ran Memtest for a while, no errors. New hard drive.

Any ideas?

Answer:Can't install windows but linux works?

Considering that particular model of Dell laptop, it might have something to do with the chipset drivers. You might have to either slipstream them into the install disc or load them from a USB drive during the install.

Hi.

I know there are several freeware and shareware FTP server software out there.

Do you know of any that would work on Windows 2000/2003 server and Linux Fedora ?

Of course, you would run distinct compilations, but I hope the UI and operation would be the same.

Thnx

p.s. the icing on the cake would be if they also allow synchronization (mirroring) between the servers. For this last feature I wouldn't mind buying the software.

Answer:FTP Server that works on Windows and Linux

CrossFTP?

Mind you, synchronising files between servers will be tricky, since file permissions in Windows and unix are very different. Any kind of fine-grained permissions systems will not work. You would probably have to sync files, then run a script to fix all perms.

I recently built a new computer and ever since I installed Windows XP the system completely freezes after 5-10 min. I tried taking out both sticks of ram ( not at the same time obviously) both DVD burners, both HD's, and my network card, assuming it was a hardware problem, nothing helped. I loaded Linux Ubuntu and it worked flawlessly, the only problem is I need windows to run Photoshop (a must have for my job). Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Ok, so to start out, about 2 weeks ago I got a virs on my computer and decided that it was time for a reinstall of windows. So installed windows, and it worked perfect for about 3 hours, then it froze and restarted, then it would last about 2 seconds of idling and it would freeze, even if I restarted several more times, so I cleared CMOS and it would last about 3 minutes and then freeze. Then it would go back to that 2 seconds of idle and freeze. So I figured it was probably a hardware issue(components dying), so I moved my ram into a different slot and it worked fine for a few minutes, and then it did that 2 seconds freeze. After a while it got the the point that it was freezing while loading the windows and then after a while it wouldnt even post! wtf is that? ohh yeah Im getting off topic, anyways, I downloaded memtest86 and my memory checked out, which STUMPED me, because I coulda sworn that was it. Then I was looking at the best buy ad on sunday morning and saw a 320gig hdd so I was like, hey wtf, lets do it. So I got it and installed it (removed my 250gig that I had in there) and reinstalled windows, it lasted a few hours and froze and then started freezing a lot after that so I restarted and it did the same 2second thing. so I disconnected my optical drives because my dvd reader is ancient and it came out of a pII, and I thought that might have been it. So after I disconnected them, it worked awsome for about 10-15 minutes and then BOOM, back to the 2 second thing. I h... Read more

Hello: A local computer shop built my “dual boot” computer last August. It came with a Lite-On DVD±RW Drive that up until now, has worked just perfectly regardless if I boot into Windows XP-Pro, or Suse 10 Linux, or if I boot from a CD or DVD. So, the drive itself has to be wired properly and working in order to do that ?? However, suddenly it has totally and completely stopped working in Windows XP-Professional, but, the drive works just fine if I boot into SuSe Linux 10 instead of Windows XP-Pro ! It’s as if Windows no longer recognizes the drive ?? According to Windows Device Manager, it’s a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S. I have downloaded from LiteOn's website the firmware patch “DR16KSOA”. But when I try to apply the patch, I get the error message that no such drive is present on my machine ?? I have also gone through Control Panel to remove the drive completely, and reinstall it. Same result “No such drive present”. At this point, I’m completely lost as to how to remedy it ? Again, I know the drive has to be working if it functions in Linux and the machine can boot off a CD or DVD inserted into the drive. Any suggestions ??

Answer:DVD±RW Drive Works in Linux But Not Windows XP

Do you have an error code with the drive in Device manager? If so, try this:

Fix for missing DVD/CD drives.

Create a text file with the following stuff in it exactly as below and name it FIXCD.REG

Double click on the file and say yes to the merge into registry question.

So I bought a laptop (Dell Votro 2520) It came with Windows 8 pre installed. Its a wonderful machine but the only problem is that when I plug in the headphones I get sound only in the left speaker. Same is the case with the external speakers, if I connect my external speakers to it I only get sound in the left speakers.

I thought there was something wrong with the sound port, but I was wrong. I checked it on Linux by loading Ubuntu from Live CD and the the sound works perfectly in Linux.

So its a driver issue? But why am I the only one with this problem? I cant seem to find this reported anywhere.

Here is what I did:

- I updated my windows to windows 8.1.
- I installed the Dell system detect software in my system to detect outdated drivers. It detected the sound driver (Cirrus Logic HD Audio) to be outdated and updated it to the latest version. The current version on my laptop is 6.24.15.4.

I'm open to suggestions. How can I fix this?

Thank you

Answer:Sound works fine in Linux but not in Windows

If it's working fine in Linux, it means that it works better with generic drivers. You may want to try uninstalling the Cirrus Logic driver and let Windows 8 decide which driver to use upon reboot.

Or, go to sound setting and check if it is analog audio. You may be having problems with digital audio or vice versa.

new ACER | LCD 23" 5MS G235HABD R monitor . Plugged into my machine , old HP AMD Athlon 11 - Win 7 . Duel boot . Ubuntu Linux . Old monitor HP w19e no boot problems . New monitor gets wrong input message and defaults to Linux . No boot menu . Works with crappy resolution . Acer works fine on wife's machine . Her HP monitor does the same thing on my machine ... no boot menu and default to Linux . My machine has problems , will not restore and an " expert " from my ISP zapped a line out of my registry and now many things wont work . Google earth , Chrome , Windows update , etc and other things can't update . I use Fire fox and get along ok or switch to Ubuntu and get along mostly fine . I would like to get the monitor working on windows . Where should I start ?Thanks Erik

Answer:monitor works in linux and not windows 7 no boot menu

If you can still boot to windows with the old monitor, do it. If your friend remembers what line he zapped from the registry, he should be able to add it back or at least tell us what it was. When you said that you can't restore, did you mean a restore point? What about F11 for the recovery partition. Have you tried that? How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Hi there

I have a license for vmware workstation rel 14 I got from the company where I'm doing some contract work as a consultant -- it's a volume license with no expiration and I've been using it on Windows 10 with no problems.

Anyway guess my surprise when I downloaded a Linux Trial version of vmware workstation rel 14 (I've been using rel 12 on my Linux Host server for a while now and wanted to upgrade it) and just thought I'd enter the Windows serial number --- it changed from Trial to permanent !!!!

Could be because the enterprise license covers all versions but those who have vmware workstations for windows could try and see if using say a trial version of the Linux version on a HOST Linux OS switches from trial to licensed.

Nothing in this post is illegal -- if vmware make an error in their licensing procedures that's THEIR problem, and my good fortune !!!!

The point of volume licences is they can be used multiple times but companies often have a limited number of licence installs, and they need to manage them.

I cannot say if this applies to vmware workstation licences, but there is a fair chance. I have used licensed software, and company could tell how many times it had been activate and by whom.

So you may have (unintentionally) taken one of the company's quota without asking.

If it was me, I would delete the linux vmware workstation.

Hey guys. I have a Lenovo G570 laptop dual-booting Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Xubuntu 15.04.

Just a few hours ago, Windows stopped recognizing my DVD drive. It's as if it's not connected at all. However, when I boot into Xubuntu, the drive works just fine.

I looked on Lenovo's website, but could not find any drivers for the DVD drive.

How do I go about troubleshooting this?

Hello,
I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I got a new stick of 4GB DDR3 1333 memory. Whether I use it by itself or with another stick, the computer blue screens with random errors instantly when trying to boot Windows 7. A 2GB stick of the same speed from the same manufacturer works great in Windows 7. So you would think that the memory stick is bad. But I let it run a memtest86 test for over 8 hours, it made 6 passes and had no problems. Also passed a Windows Memory Diagnostic from the startup menu. I was able to boot into Ubuntu 64bit with no problems. It recognized the full 6GB and was passing a linux memtester test with no issues. So the memory seems to be good. Is there some setting that could cause Windows 7 64bit to crash with 4GB or more?

I should add that I can't boot into safe mode either. Random blue screens when the 4 colored dots are moving on the boot screen.

Answer:New memory works great in memtest/linux, crashes windows 7

I have an Asus L2000B Laptop, and one day a friend was using it and found unconfortable to use the touchpad, and asked me if he could use one of the mice os another computer in the room, i said sure, why not?

Well, it was a ps2 mouse and he hot-pluged it!!! :S

Result: the laptop´s keyboard stoped working and so did that ps2 port and also the sole serial port , but not the touchpad.

Restarting, cleaning the plug and all that did not work.

Now when I boot, i get a 'no keybord present/keyboard error' at startup, however, it works fine in the BIOS and in DOS!?!

When Windows boots it lights Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock an the keyboard no longer works

In Linux, No lights go on, but it doesn't wor either.

I'm certain that there is damage to the Serial ports/ PS2 ports chip but it's not all busted and probably just ignores any command and just gives outputs.

Now, I've been using a USB keyboard to 'make do' but its very annoying an not very portable.

Replacing the MoBo is out of the question as it costs more than the PC is worth.

I seek a way around the windows drivers, a simpler less demanding driver!

But actually try to locate a test on your computer (I haven't looked it up) but some manufactures have this

So for some time now I have had intermittent network issue while booted into Windows 10, ping my gateway (router) fine, ping dns names like www.google.co.uk, www.unixmen.com and www.microsoft.com all work fine. Ping my ISP DNS servers fine however if I attempt web browsing or application updates all fail with no internet access.

I have tried ethernet and wireless both results are the same across two ISP providers Virgin and BT.

If I reboot to Linux and attempt all above I have no issues at all so this is a Windows issue for sure.

*HISTORY*

I have attempted to investigate this myself and had limited success with Dr Web Cureit! which reported probably DFH.HOST.corrupted but I believed this to be a false positive due to my modification of my host file to limit Windows call home etc.

Note: All has been working fine regardless of host mods

Anyway I allowed Dr Web Cureit! to fix , rebooted and low and behold all worked ok (this is no longer the case).

So I am struggling to identify the cause of this issue and would very much appreciate your help here please.

(All efforts to correct this myself are now stopped)

Is this a USB adapter? Does the error go away if the adapter is removed? With the yellow flag in Device Manager, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the USB Device from the computer end and Restart your computer. When the computer comes back up, plug the USB device into different USB port of the computer.

Hi, I have a few issues. The touchpad and left/right buttons dont work. So I got a wired mouse and that was fine until I got te bluescreen, got a wireless mouse and same thing, it comes under device manager as usb composite device. I have tried various methods of updating drivers, i have the latest drivers installed for synaptics touchpad device and all usb yet still not being recognised. But as I said the wireless mouse works fine, as did the wired. The only thing that I can think of that it may be, is that I have windows updates turned off. When I turn these on, it just hangs for hours on end saying checking for updates, as well as taking up lots of system resources leaving me with barely any available ram. If it wasnt for the bluescreen occuring twice a day then I wouldnt mind, as the mouse works fine I dont need the touchpad. But I'm at my wits end trying to resolve this. Hp support assistant doesnt seem to think there are drivers missing, but I know somethings not right. Also the wireless mouse only works in 1 of the 3 usb ports. Really need some help with this.

Hello AllI have been trying to test Bluetooth file transfer on my Lenovo IdeaPad running Windows 10. I am using an Android phone and an Android tablet to transfer a file. NOTE: Bluetooth transfer from the phone to the tablet works as expected, therefore any error in the Bluetooth stack on these devices can be ruled out.  On the Windows 10 laptop, the pairing works. I've documented the process here. The error can be seen in picture 3. I can pair the LG Optimus G Pro with Windows 10. However, when I initiate transfer from the phone OR the PC, the transfer fails. On Android, the error is just "Transfer unsuccessful". I've posted 3 images about the error on Windows when transfer is initiated.  1) Device paired confirmation: http://postimg.org/image/68668w8w5/2) Initiating transfer: http://postimg.org/image/ibbhwgjyd/3) Transfer failure: http://postimg.org/image/4o7zm365p/ (Connected party did not properly respond after a period of time...)  I have a Broadcom Bluetooth USB 4.0 driver installed. How to solve this? Lenovo has not published a Win 10 specific driver for my device (Y580). Which one should I get?Regards

Just started today.
Here's my description of the issue:  whether I'm using email, facebook, or anything else internet related, it seems to stall for 3 or 4 seconds and then works again, stalls, then works again.
For example, when I'm typing, it stops working in mid sentence and I have to wait for typing to work again, and repeats every few seconds or so.

Using my computer non-internet related work fine...I can view video files with no stalling, I can open files and folders, view documents, pictures and no stalling.  It's only when I browse the net, or use any application.

I checked my bandwidth speed....seems to be ok(?) it was around 40mbps up and down.  Ping was 44ms.   Not sure if that is good or bad.

I'm doing a malwarebytes scan right now just to see.  I guess I should try a reboot?  My adobe flash is up to date, java too i think...not sure what else could be causing this stalling.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Answer:Internet seems to stall then go stall then go

Does it only effect typing or is it only caused by typing? Another words, if writing a email and it stalls, can you open a new tab or application or do you need to wait until it stops being frozen?

Also, when did this start happening? Any new software around then? Any pop ups or warning messages on reboot? What are results of malwarebytes scan?

I have tried a few different windows images, windows troubleshooting feature, and the latest versions of the drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, disabling and re-enabling, re-imaging, updating windows. None have had the effect of actually making it work. I'm running win 10.0.10240, on dell latitude 5285 and 5289. This is affecting the entire Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver and all the included sensors, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope GPS and ambient light.

I would like to resolve this so that we can order tablets and have them work right in our org.

I did a system restore on my Dell Dimension 3000. After restarting the computer the following screen appears:

Loading PBR for descriptor 1 ... done.
Starting Windows 95...

The computer gets stuck on this screen.

My Dell system never came with Windows 95, it had Windows XP.

I've tried everything. I installed 2GB of memory, inserted a copy (not orignial) of a windows xp installation cd after selecting boot from cd and nothing happens. I called Dell and they won't offer any support since my desktop is no longer under warranty.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

As my Windows XP 64 bit systems once agian dies on me and the chore of reinstalling the system becomes one of my only options ( I installed the same system four different times in about two months) I was wondering about Linux. Problem is through for me is that there are alot of them out there. Which one to choose? So I'm asking to all of you why did you choose your linux distribution over another and is there anything you would like to change about your linux distribution or the one you have in your opinion is the best?

Answer:Which Linux works best for you and why?

Ubuntu, It's the darling of the distros at the moment.

You can install it in a dozen clicks or so, totally with the GUI.

It reads and can write NTFS.

The partition manager can create partitions on an active drive. (Defrag first! Don't try this on a drive more than maybe 25% full!).

The GRUB bootloader is easy to implement (again w/ GUI) (for dual boot systems).

You must not be living cleanly! It shouldn't be necessary to reinstall Windows every other week! What's up?

Good afternoon, all.

I have done a fair amount of searching on this topic and am at a loss. My PC is a DELL Dimension E310 desktop. I was removing some unneeded programs using the add/remove programs utility and the computer needed to restart. Upon restarting, the DELL screen came up, followed by a black screen with a blue band that says "www.dell.com." Below this, there is a line that says, "Loading PBR for descriptor 2... done." Below this there is a line that says, "A disk read error occurred," and below this, there is a line that says, "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." Upon doing so, the computer goes back to the 1st Dell screen, then back to the last screen mentioned.

Can someone please help me get through this so I can at least recover the files that are one the hard drive? I am afraid to take any of the advice on various forums and websites because I have a lot of files that have not been backed up. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Loading PBR for Descriptor 2... done., Need assistance with booting Windows

If your first priority is your files (they should be regularly backed up, but that is another conversation for another day!), then take the disk out of this machine, mount it in an external enclosure (you will get these at places like tiger direct, best buy, etc.), connect it to a working computer by USB cable and copy over all the data you need to the working computer.

After that, put the disk back in the original computer. Then see if following the instructions here resolves the issue.

Question: Windows XP stall

I have an HP 1.2 ghz with 256mb RAM and WinXP. System was purchased new in April. For the most part I have been satisfied once I got all my hardware working (had to replace some) with XP. My problem now is there are times when my system hangs for no apparent reason. Today I was trying to configure a DSL Router I have and when looking at my network settings, I would click the OK button and the system would just stop. I could move my mouse but no clicks would respond. Then I do Ctrl-alt-del and the network box would disappear and everything works. That is not normal for XP, is it? Also, when I have tried to open Netmeeting, nothing happens and the system just hangs for a bit but eventually comes back, but Netmeeting never opens. Any suggestions?

Question: Windows 7 Stall

I am having a issue with Windows Randomly Stalling and Locking Up. The mouse pointer will move very slow and all audio output or input stops or becomes jittery. I try ctrl + alt + del and click task manager to kill a process but it will never load. This has happened several times in the past few days and is getting to be quite annoying. I have a i5 2500 (LGA 1155) 3.30ghz.

I'm working on installing an old IDE hard drive. I set it as primary slave, sharing the IDE ribbon with the primary hard drive (set to master). Windows 98 does not see it, nor does the BIOS list it at boot. However, when I boot off a Linux Live-CD (the latest Puppy Linux, kernel 2.4.29), it sees it as /dev/hdb just fine, and is able to access it without error. I tried using the add hardware wizard, but it didn't see anything. I checked the motherboard manual, and I don't see any mention of any IDE related jumpers, and I don't see anything applicable in the BIOS settings. Is there any reason why a hard drive would be usable in Linux, and not in Win98?

Often when starting win7 (64bit), after the windows logo the HD stops, and I am left with a dark screen.
Sometimes, when I restart, and choose "start windows normally" it starts without a problem. Other times I get the same situation.
If I startup in safe mode the PC starts without a problem. Then after a restart the PC starts normally.
I have searched the event viewer, and the Norton history, but cannot relate this problem to anything.
I thought it might be my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce9600GT), and installed a previous driver (340.52), but the problem reoccurred.
This problem does not happen with every startup, but maybe 50% of the time.

Any recommendation will be appreciated,
Happy New Year

Answer:HD stall after Windows logo

This sounds more like a hard drive issue and not a video issue. Test that hard drive by going to Computer and right-click on the C drive. Select Properties, Tools, Check Now. Put a check mark in both boxes to set a disk check on the next start up. Let the test finish and see if the problem is corrected
