Preferred Solution: Should I update my system BIOS if i am running linux alongsi...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Sory for my very bad English I have a Lenovo 3000 G530, under Linux (Mandriva 2010 X86_64), and it works fine. My only "problem" is the system sound of charge battery (beep when plug/unplug adapter).... It's not a minor problem : there are many circumstances where we want to be silent .... and these sounds are horrible. One issue to resolve this problem is to correct it in the Bios settings. But in my Bios, no options for that. On the other hand, I've found an update Bios (http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_show_1350.html#) 0CCN52WW version (I actualy use 0CCN48WW). So 1 Can somebody tell me if the 0CCN52WW Biosmakes possible to disable system sounds alarms ? Before flashing Bios, I want to be sure this will solve the problem ...2 This Bios can create other problems ?3 Is there a method to flash without using Windows (creating bootable CD) ? Thank you YL

Toshiba NB100
Memory 1GB - Kinston - KTT667D2/1G
Ubuntu 8.04 - Ubuntu Netbook Remix -CD from Toshiba
CD-rw/DVD-rw LG GE20 externel USB-drive
Keyboard differences

Hi,

I was very happy to buy my netbook from Toshiba.

First I configured the System ready - reaching the Ubuntu-desktop the first time and everything was fine. Then I navigated the menues and soon found "Aktualisierungsverwaltung" in German - should be "Updatemanagement" in English - and started. After that I had a slow system with, no soundcard and the later downloaded bios-udate 1.6 did not work too.

I bought the LG DVD-burner (~75US/~60Eur) and restored the system with the Ubunto Remix-DVD. That worked good and is done in about 10 minutes. I bought a Kingston memorymodule too and replaced the original one. The Kingston-modul works fine too.

After i had read the thread, that the BIOS-update doesn´t work after Ubuntu-update I tried it again and now I have a good working BIOS 1.6.

But I have still 2 faullts:

The "|" (pipe-symbol) is not as shown on the keyboard Fn+X - it is Fn+Alt+<.

The 151 Update-"pakets" still damage the System - I tried it out for 2 times doing nothing but restore, setting network and updating.

The new sound-driver 1.06 I found at Toshiba-Germany and Toshiba-France are dead links (404), the Toshiba help line will now fix this since 2 weeks and do not call back.

Any ideas?

Hello together, i have a problem with our System X3650 M4 Server, Machinetype Model: 5462G2G. I downloaded an imm and an uefi update file from the lenovo website.First i updated imm through the imm2 website remotly.Update did go as planned, i restarted th imm2 and after about 5 minutes the new imm2 was working an accessible,Then i tried to update the uefi bios from version 1.01 to 2.31 , also via the IMM2 -> Servermangement -> Server Firmware -> Firmware upgrade option.I Uploaded the new file lnvgy_fw_uefi_tce128i-2.31_anyos_32-64.upd, then started the upgrade process. It went through fine, and after the sucess information i was prompted to restart the OS.After 30 minutes, the server was still in System State = running in uefi mode. When i checked back to the server management -> Server firmware rab, it said UEFI Primary, Status pending, Version 2.31.Then i "powered off" the server, and restarted it 5 minutes later. All status boxes are green, but system status is still in "system running in UEFI " Mode, it wont start with the OS (VMware) Does anyone have an idea how to fix the problem. The Server also has a secondary bank with the old bios version  1.01 , how can i switch back to this backup BIOS? Many thanks in advance, i am getting a bit desperate here. The server should be operational tomorrow morning again.

Is it possible to upgrade the Bios of my Qosmio X500-12V under ubuntu linux?

I really don't want to install windows just to upgrade the bios. I even tried to use a live WinXP cd but it didn't work :(

Answer:Re: Qosmio X500-12V - BIOS upgrade running Ubuntu linux

No, as far as I know the BIOS on the Toshiba European driver page is win based? so you need the Windows system to get the BIOS flashed.

I'm keen to always keep up-to-date on all drivers/firmware on all of my machines.  I just picked up this notebook on cyber monday and let all the automatic updates go on and noticed that bios is currently 1.2.0 while 1.2.4 is available.  When I try to install it, I get a "Running on an unsupported system" message.  I went and downloaded each of the other bios(1.2.1 etc) to see if it required the previous one to upgrade from, but even 1.2.1 gives me the same error.
The service tag is correct for the download page(at least looking at system configuration everything is what I purchased).  What can I do to get current?  Considering "system stability" is the primary listing for the bios updates, I kind of want them.
Apparently, there will be a new update on 1/2/2018, but I'm going to have to assume it'll have the same issue since all of the updates give the same error.
Inspiron 15 7559 i7 7700HQ, 16GB ram, GTX 1060(MaxQ) 256GB SSD, 1TB HHD, FHD display, Windows 10 Home 16299.125. if it makes any difference.
Oh, and of course, I did run the "40 min" diagnostic test with zero problems.

I am not 100% sure this would work. IF you were using 8.1 or 10 I could give you another way to enter. I know you said that F2 didn't work. But here is an Idea I would like you to try..... Press and HOLD the F2 button then turn on your Laptop while holding the F2 Button and see if that helps you get into your bios.  Then I would change your Bios to Lagecy from the UEFI James

Answer:How to update BIOS on Linux

BIOS updates for your notebook are provided in softpaq form for use in Windows only.  Some HP notebooks do have Linux BIOS upgrade support, but unfortunately yours is not one of them. If you want to update the BIOS, then you will have to install Windows. Any Windows version from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 will suffice. The BIOS updates are in the driver and software  download section of the support portal for the Probook 4440s notebook at the following URL.http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5229487&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158

Hi. I have a lenovo G50-80.The BIOS update aviable on the web site is a .exe file executable only on Windows systems. How can I update the BIOS under linux?

Answer:Bios Update under Linux

Tricky... The BIOS file is buried in the compressed (zipped) .exe file, is identified by the .ROM extension.  Obvioulsy running from a DOS prompt under Linux may not work with the "Windows" updater program as it may not have the ablity to interact with the EEPROM.

I would check with your Distro support team for a working Linux bios flasher that could read/use the Lenovo ROM but proceed carefully - if it fails to work you may end up with a very expensive door stop.

Ok, I have found and downloaded the BIOS update file from Toshiba, I've not been able to find any instructions as to how to properly apply the update.

For the Linux version, it's in the form of a .sh, however, it's not a standard shell script. Is this something to be just run from a command prompt? Anyone know or could someone point me to the documentation I don't seem to be able to find regarding this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Portege Z30-B-100 update bios from linux

Hi

On the Toshiba EU driver page you can find only the win-based BIOS update version.
This means that BIOS can be updated from running system only and you need to run Windows OS in order to start the BIOS update procedure. Linux isn't supported in this case...

Here you can find the How to doc about the BIOS update

Answer:Satellite P100-437 - How to update BIOS on Linux?

Hi

First of all what notebook you have exactly?

Normally the BIOS can only be updated on Windows so you have to install Windows to update the BIOS. The point is that BIOS update is only possible on preinstalled OS and that?s not Linux. ;)

Alternative you can contact an authorized service provider. Maybe they can update the BIOS in DOS mode via bootable disk or floppy. It?s worth a try?

my OS is Ubuntu 12.04 (but i have previously used Windows Vista, previous Ubuntu releases, and Fedora)

and i have a problem with the BIOS.

Is there any available download to make an update, or even downgrade? I d prefer the first version or at laest an old one, because i know it worked fine

thank you

Answer:Satellite A200-23Q - BIOS Update on Linux

Generally speaking Toshiba doesn't support Linux and BIOS update cannot be done under Linux. All offered BIOS updates are Windows versions and can be updated under running Windows operating system.

Out of curiosity but which kind of problem do you have with actual BIOS version?

Hi all,

I have a 3 yo Toshiba Satellite A200-193 (PSAEC), bought in France, it was apparently not released in the US - or not under thos reference - because I can't find it in the Toshiba bios database. (I could post in a french forum but there is no such support :-/ )

The bios is a Phoenix,v1.30. This bios is known for having an inside bug, preventing unofficial and unpatched OS like linux to deal correctly with acpi (fan control in particular). The temperature is higher than it should be.

I tried to update my bios to 1.80 through the toshiba fr website, but I have and alert saying "This bios has to be used with Vista Only".
Okay, so this is purely scandalous considering specific OS instructions have NOTHING to do inside a bios, what are my options?

Has someone installed this BIOS? Did it end up correctly ?

Thanks a lot

Answer:Satellite A200-193 - BIOS update on Linux

Hi buddy,

Please don?t understand me wrong but Toshiba doesn?t provide any support for Linux. That means you have to search yourself for drivers or solutions and that?s the reason why BIOS update is only Windows Vista supported.

That means if you want to do this update you have to install the preinstalled OS from Toshiba, I think in this case Vista. Then you are able to update the BIOS.

John___Smith Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, but I don't have very good news for you ...THIS is the primary reason many folks retain dual-boot setups with both MS Windows and a Linux distro -- the apps that OEMs provide for updating BIOS only run in MS Windows, not in Linux. If you have an MS Windows box, you can install and run 7-Zip to uncompress the HP BIOS softpaq archives into the constituent files.  But then, you still need a BIOS flash utility to apply the updates, and HP does not supply one that runs in Linux.

Hello,

* AHCI for SATA
* Disable IDE

But there are no such options.
So I thought maybe I have to update my bios.
I found the download page, but there are 2 options: Windows Vista or NOT Windows vista, but I want to dual boot windows 7 and linux.

Wich one I have to download, or is there an other option to change the settings?

Thank you!
Bart

Answer:Satelitte A110-180 - Update Bios for Windows 7 and Linux

Hi

Satellite A110 does not support such options (SATA AHCI).
The BIOS update will not help you!

Linux is not supported and therefore you will not find any special BIOS for Linux OS!

The both BIOS updates are for Win Vista or OS independent.
Therefore if you are using OS other as Vista then you should take the OS independent BIOS update!

But like mentioned above; both options will not appear after BIOS update!

Hi there.

We use Linux as the main OS, and in order to use all HDD space, we've erased Windows partition.

How can I update BIOS from a Linux operative system? I asked in an official technichal support company, and they told me they use an special linux live CD handled by Toshiba.

I don't know if I can get this live cd somehow. If not, I'd like to know how to update our Bios without having to reinstall Windows OS.

As far as I know on BIOS download page Toshiba offers Windows version only. Generally speaking Linux is not supported at all.
Try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Maybe they can obtain such special CD.

By the way: why you didn?t prepared machine (BIOS update) before you have started to install Linux?

In attempting update the BIOS of my U300-153, which is described as OS independent on the download page, I find that the provided upgrade file in
http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20090304140640.ZIP
does not include files to make a bootable CD, as described in the instructions at
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/faq.jsp?z=234&service=EU&from=faq_selection&CFID=B IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07
where Option 2 Step 2 lists the files which are in the zip, and these are required to make a boot cd. The files listed are not in the zip.

This forces me to use Windows. My Windows is broken and I daren't repair it, since Windows repairs destroy data (stated clearly on the recovery CD packaging) and Linux co-installations. My Linux is working fine, and I don't want the Windows anymore.

How then can I upgrade the BIOS? Either:
1. Use a true OS independent package (ie the promised bootable CD approach). I don't find such a thing here.
2. Reinstall Windows, thereby trashing the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Sincerely,
Aleksander K

Lenovo Releases BIOS Update to Allow Linux Installation on Windows 10 Devices

Back in September, complaints that reached the web (and even got confirmed by a supposed Lenovo official) claimed that installing Linux on a Yoga 900 was impossible because the operating system was blocked as part of a deal between Microsoft and Lenovo.

Both Microsoft and Lenovo denied that such an agreement existed, explaining that installing Linux was actually impossible because Windows 10 was running on a SSD locked in a proprietary RAID mode that could only be read by Redmond?s operating system.

And yet, following all this controversy Lenovo has released a new BIOS update for Yoga 900 that unlocks this proprietary RAID mode and allows the installation of Linux on the device.

?This BIOS creates an AHCI SATA Controller Mode selection to allow for the installation of the Linux operating system. This BIOS is NOT intended for use with machines running a Windows operation system,? the official changelog of the new BIOS version reads.

Drivers should allow Linux installation on any device
Lenovo confirmed from the very beginning that installation of Linux on its devices was possible with the right drivers, but the company didn?t say a single thing about updates that would be provided for the Yoga 900 Signature Edition.

After updating to BIOS A15, the keys to my Dell Latitude E5440 get "stuck" again with Linux. This has been a problem for many frustrating months back when I originally bought it, then solved by a BIOS update eventually, and now back again with A15. A14 worked fine.

Hello everyone!

I've made my Sony VAIO into a dual-boot machine (Win7 64-bit and Ubuntu Linux) and I'm having trouble getting into the BIOS.

When powering up, even though I repeatedly press and hold down the DEL key it always goes straight to the GRUB menu:

And then when I select to load Windows 7, I keep pressing DEL but it goes straight to Windows.

It doesn't seem to matter how fast I am on the keys - I can't get into the BIOS.

I have a should I be trying to enter the BIOS before getting to the GRUB menu, or after?

Also, (and this may be irrelevant) I've checked my registry to determine what kind of BIOS I have (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / HARDWARE / DESCRIPTION / System ), where I found that the SystemBiosVersion variable = Sony - 20110905 BIOS Date: 09/05/11 11:20:58 Ver: 04.06.03

(I would have thought the BIOS would be something like American Megatrends!)

Anyways... is there any way I can get into the BIOS from Windows, i.e. after Windows has loaded? Do I have to remove Linux from my computer? I hope not!

Thanks so much for your help and have a great day.

Answer:can't enter BIOS when booting (Win7 / Ubuntu Linux dual boot system)

Best to keep in mind that the BIOS is completely different from ANY operating system. There is no connection between the two things, other than the BIOS handing off control to an OS.

You press DEL (or whatever key enters the BIOS) before any operating system begins to start up.
You can start pressing the key repeatedly (once a second) just as soon as you hear the POST beep or see anything happen on the display screen.
Once you reach the Grub loader it is too late. Start over.

You can't get into the BIOS from an operating system. You can only shut down and/or restart.
Nothing in the operating system's registry has anything to do with your system's BIOS, other than communicating with it initially.

Hi
I can't update win10 on dell laptop after Microsoft release the cumulative update KB3163018. I tried many ways.
The sysyem doesn't close now.
I used sfc /scannow and it found some corrupt files but didn't repair some of them.
The update process stops on 100% and fails making "Undoing changes"

I'm affraid that the problem is caused by other operating system which is installed on this laptop. This happens some years ago with Vista Sevice Pack 2

Could anybody help?

Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

Answer:T460p BIOS update fails; "The BIOS does not match this system"

Call support.  Whatever happens, you should get the issue documented while the system is under warranty.  In U.S., the number is 1-800-426-7378

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

Answer:Problems with Nvidia gpu post BIOS system BIOS update.

Hi,

Have you updated your GPU with the latest drivers?

http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers

Please navigate to:

Start> Control panel> Swith to icon view> device manager.
Look under "Display Adapters"

Is the Nvidia GPU listed there? If so are there any yellow symbols etc?

Ok, I just updated to an AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHz Quad Core processor and I'm having an issue where it is only running at around 800 MHz. This is in a Gateway GT5670,

My motherboard is an ECS MCP61PM-GM with Pheonix Technologies 6.00 PG bios.

I've done a little searching and apparently I need to update the bios for the board to be able to fully use the new CPU, however I haven't been able to find an update. I just got off of a chat session with Gateway support and all that they could do was direct me to their Pay for Support help line. If anyone can point me in the right direction or have another solution, I'd really appreciate it.

"flash.bat" is a batch file that when run should offer you to make a dos boot disk (usually a floppy disk), you boot from it and run BIOS flashing program.

Hey, I reinstalled Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit and I was running the system update.  The BIOS portion failed on me (not responding) and I had to reboot my computer.  Now it seems like the computer turns on but the screen doesn't turn on. Help.

Answer:Computer screen not turning on after BIOS update failed using System Update

Hello, if your dvd is spinning up, you could try to download your bios as an iso file, burn it to disc, and try to boot and flash from this cd.The last chance is to take out the battery, click power ten times, insert battery again and plug ac in. If nothing goes, call Lenovo support line, you´ll need a new system board.

I've just acquired a second hand T43 (2668WZT) that is working fine with one exception. I cannot get it to recognise a game DVD that apparently has safedisc DRM encryption on it to prevent copying. The DVD works with no problem on my desktop system but I thought it would be useful to be able to run it on the Thinkpad as well when travelling. Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm on BIOS level 1.24 and the BIOS level is now up to 1.29 which raises the other slight mystery. I've installed the latest version of system update but that is not flagging any BIOS update as available so I'm a bit reluctant to download and install in case there is some pre-req missing. All advice on either issue gratefully received!

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Hi all,
After a recent bios update to version 1.3.5, there is a really annoying problem for my XPS 13 9360. Whenever the laptop is on, the CPU fan won't stop. Even when I am doing nothing and the CPU load is below 5%. Before the update the laptop is normal and quiet, but now I cannot stand the constant noise of the fan.
Before the update it's normal. Any ideas on this issue?

My second battery (keyboard) has only rarely loaded. Most of the time, even after days with the computer plugged in to the mains, only the tablet battery was loaded. Since October Toshioba Service Station did not work properly, so I could not update my bios. I have now changed to Windows 10 just to see if that would make the trick. I could install all drivers but not the BIOS update. I have tried installing them manually, but when I do so in Windows 8 compatible mode, the system tells me that the "file could not be saved" immediately after unzipping the software. Any clues?

And I haven't noticed anything really odd with Windows except when I run CCleaner it says MS search instead of thumbnails. But how do I ensure next time I restore Windows it be interrupted by Grub should I try a third party system restore app maybe Duplicati?

I upgraded my yoga to Windows 10 soon after purchase a year and a half ago.  I have had few problems but one persists, intermitent problems charging with the AC adapter. There appear to be many Bios updates since the one that came with my yoga. I am running v1.03 and would like to update to version 96CN31WW(V1.17) but am justifiably concerned. - There is no means of backing up and restoring the current Bios so an update failure could be catastrophic.- The Bios readme file indicates it is for Windows 8 and 8.1.  I read a forum post that indicated that this shouldn't be a   problem on WIndows 10 and I agree but there is so little feedback in this forum or elsewhere about successful or   unsuccessful Bios updates on Yoga 2 13 so I am nervous about proceeding.- I don't know if this Bios update will solve my problem (no documentation from Lenovo about what any of the prior   Bios updates fixed) and there is always the possibility that this change could make my notebook more unstable. Again,   no means of going back.- For the reasons above, I always consider a Bios update a last resort. Anything else I can recover from and I am out of   warranty. I would appreciate any feedback on the stability and success of 96CN31WW(V1.17) updates and any information about what problems prior Bios updates for Yoga 2 13 addressed.

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I used System Update on my T530 today to update the BIOS.   On reboot, the T530 hung.   With help from Lenovo support, I rebooted the computer.   Now System Update says the bios update was successful to 2.54.1.11, but SystemInfo says that the current bios is BIOS Version: LENOVO G4ET93WW (2.53 ), 2/22/2013.    Lenovo support said that they only support the hardware and this is a software issue.   They had no idea who in Lenovo supported System Update.   They also advised to rarely if ever to update the bios "unless the system doesn't boot properly".   I have never heard that in 30 years of IT.    I would like to get System Update to be consistent with the bios level.   And I believe I want to update the bios.   Can anyone help with either of these two issues? ThanksBarry

If you're sure you want/need the BIOS update, you can download it from your Driver Matrix:

I would recommend the Bootable CD version. I've never had a failed update with that method.

BIOS updates are rare enough that I forget to pause BitLocker before doing one. The result: Windows detects a hardware change and requires the BitLocker recovery key. Kind of a PITA to type a 48 digit code, let alone hunting it down.  PLEASE before running a BIOS update, prompt the user "This update will require your bitlocker recovery key on reboot unless you pause BitLocker encryption. Continue? (yes/no)". I'm sure it would save many users the occasional headache.

I had bios 1.25 I ran the thinkvangate toolbox and the update system, asking for lenovo updates.  It said there was a bios update, which I ran. Now I have 1.26. There are no more updates reported by the updater. Does anyone know:1) Is 1.3 a beta product?2) Is it not in the Lenovo update tool because they are very slow at adding updates (i.e. months late?)3) Is it safe to install Bios 1.3 manualy?  The only place I can find it is here - is this the correct source? The reason for wanting the update is that my CPU clock is fixed (wont go down on battery, and wont go up under heavy single core load), and also since installing the new power manager 3.62, the fan is stuck on permanently even on battery, idle and cold and the noise is driving me nuts.  There are no reported fixes in 1.3 for any of these issues, but people are reporting that it may fix them, so I guess the Lenovo developers might have sneaked some undocumented (but hopefully tested) changes in there. This machine is my livelyhood, so I cant afford on day downtime - so Bios udates are only done if desperatly needed and if no issues are reported.

Answer:No Bios 1.3 update in Thinkvantage system update tool?

If it is your livelyhood and you aren't having any issues, I would not recommend updating manually or otherwise. There is a risk you will brick the machine.

Hi,

Problem with temperature oft the GPU rising to high (more than 100 ?C) using sensors applet to check.

I guess it's a BIOS and driver problem.

Under windows 7 x64 i don't have this problem with the last nvidia driver (using speedfan to check temperature)

I decided to flash the bios with the last version => BD1_BIOS(V4.80)_Update.exe as i have the 4.0 version actually, and while flashing same error than you error -121. dxe update etc ...

While the .exe extract the content of the flash on your c:\tmp i'm going to try a flash bios with a usb bootable stick and phlash.exe with the BD13C43.WPH.

The problem is to find the official dos phlash.exe .. phoenix doesnt provide those kind of tools ;(

I understand the need to simple flash bios under windows .. but i don't understand the missing .iso for flashing at boot when the operating system doesnt match ...

If you have any clue thanks ;)

Hi,

Anyone know where I can find a driver for it? I do see there are 2 devices not recognized - one "Base System Device" and one "Unknown Device"...

And I see it doesn't recognize the video card either - just uses Standard VGA Graphics Adapter which seems to work fine...

I have a ThinkCentre M92p 2992D9G and want to make sure everything is up to date before installing the Windows 10 upgrade. The Lenovo System Update (5.07.003) does not appear to be picking up the latest Bios for my system - the website is showing Bios 9SKT89A released 30 July which is clearly newer than 9SKT88AUS that is on mine, and the latest update check was on 31 July. I am also slightly concerned that there is no Bios for Windows 10 available. Whilst Microsoft have clearly decided that Windows 10 will run on my PC, I want to make sure that it will be fully functioning.

Answer:System Update not recognising BIOS update

I'd just go ahead and run the 9SKT89A downloaded "BIOS flash utility file (flash from the operating system)" from the Lenovo web site.  You can do that yourself.  No need to rely on System Update to apply it.

When you run the utility yourself, you'll probably be prompted in a DOS command-prompt window for a response, rather than the utilty just running "silently" without requiring any response from you when System Update applies it for you.  The extra prompts are to ask you if you (a) want to change the machine product code, and (b) want to change the machine serial number.  You'll just reply "n" (without quotes of course) to both questions.  These are really for when installing a new replacement motherboard, not for when simply updating BIOS on an existing motherboard.

Anyway, the Lenovo databases which supply System Update vs. what the download web site shows are different, and sometimes there's a timing difference in terms of when they both show the same files available.  I wouldn't worry about it.  So either wait another few days and I'm sure System Update will then show the new BIOS availability, or just manually install it yourself from the downloaded file.

Hi,I just run the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the latest ThinkVantage System Update. As stated by the BIOS Update Utility I closed all my applications and proceeded. I selected  Update ThinkPad BIOS". Then the BIOS Update Utility froze during the process (it displayed that it is now writing the backup file of the old bios). After some time a window from Windows popped up and said that the program hangs and closed the BIOS Update Utility. Now I am not sure if the BIOS on my notebook is in a healthy state or not!So I tried to do the update manually again. I downloaded the ThinkPad BIOS update utility from the Lenovo website [1] (Version 3.24). But when I start the BIOS Update Utility and select ?Update ThinkPad BIOS? it shows me an error message:  Driver Loading failed.

The Utility cannot proceed. My ThinkPad is a X61s (7666-B4G), running Windows 7 SP1, 32bit  Any recommendations what I can try next?Is it safe to reboot the computer, or is it bricked now? Kind regardsThomas [1] http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/default.page

Answer:X61s Bios Update Tool crashed, ThinkPad still running what to do now?

The system did a reboot and now it is finaly dead. When it was still running i tried different methods to do new clean reflash of the bios but could not find any solution which worked. Is there still hope to recover the ThinkPad?

Hello

I have a problem with my Toshiba.

2 days ago I installed a new Bios driver on the computer. Since that day, a notebook is running much slower then normal. I don't know what to do???
I wish to get previous Bios driver but I am not sure how to do it, and I don?t wont to make bigger problem than I have now.

I chose good driver for my "machine" , Vista 32 bit (http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/eula/info_eng2.asp).
Can you help me???

I have also one more problem. My cd/dvd drive is not reading cd disk.
Is it possible that the problem is in Vista??? Because few months ago I had similar problem with cd/dvd drive. That day someone one the internet forum advice me to change something in (I am not sure) registry file.

This was a good solution because the problem disappear and everything was working correctly up to this month.

Thanks for every help,
I hope so that you understand my english :)
Have a good day
Tomek

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 psea6 is running slow after BIOS update

Hi

At this time the Toshiba European driver page provides a Vista 32bit BIOS version 2.50.
Be sure that your BIOS was update to 2.50. You can check this in BIOS settings.

Furthermore I would also recommend setting the BIOS to default settings.
This can be done in the BIOS itself.

But generally it?s not easy t say why your notebook is slower. To be honest I don?t understand what you mean by ?running much slower then normal?
Does the notebook boot slower? Or what?s a problem exactly?

So now some hints regarding you CD/DVD drives issue;
Yes, sometimes the Windows sets some filter values in registry and this could affect the CD/DVD drive functionality.

Check this thread:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=37430&tstart=0

There you can find the solution.
And here is link to the useful program which deletes such values from registry

I'm wondering if I should get the BIOS update from Acer for my laptop.
I've been having some audio stutter issues that seem to be fixed by disabling the LAN from 'device manager' (a pretty common problem and solution, apparently).

I just wonder if getting a BIOS update will make my computer more stable, because I don't want to have to keep disabling my LAN just to stop audio stutter and, in some cases, spikes in the CPU usage.
Is it safe to update my BIOS? Would I need to back-up any data before I do it?

Answer:BIOS Update for Acer Aspire 7720 running windows 7

Crazyedd, BIOS updates usually list info on what the update fixes. If it states that it can fix your audio issue then you should do it. If not, update your complete specs, using the link under my sig, and post in the sound and audio thread and a member will help you. Also make sure your drivers are up to date.

I have a Satellite Pro P200-15W. After recently running the BIOS update to version 1.9, the fans started running all the time and are extremely noisy. It also did weird things to Firefox, Thunderbird and NAV.

I would like to "uninstall" the BIOS update if possible. I found [this link|http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1080 89xml&sliceId=&dialogID=24408215&stateId=0%200%202 4406262] which discusses running the restore CD.

If I run this CD, will that definitely restore the BIOS to the previous version?

Is there a less destructive way (ie: that doesn't erase the hard drive)?

Thanks

Ben

Answer:Satellite Pro P200-15W: After BIOS update 1.9 fans running all the time

Hi

It seems the fan table was changed and renewed in the new BIOS version and therefore the fans run ofttimes.
Why the fan table was changed?

Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve decrease the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with full performance.
This helps to prevent the hardware from damage!!

> would like to "uninstall" the BIOS update if possible. I found this link which discusses running the restore CD. If I run this CD, will that definitely restore the BIOS to the previous version?
>Is there a less destructive way (ie: that doesn't erase the hard drive)?

Usually the Recovery CD formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and installs only the Toshiba image on the notebooks HDD. The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the notebook to see if the software issues can be solved!

If you want to reverse the BIOS you have to contact the ASP in your country!!!

Sorry but this everything what I can suggest!

Best regards

I updated my W700 to the latest and greatest BIOS  now I'm getting an error 2100 hard drive initialization error.   Running a Corsair x256 SSD. I tried flashing to every bios on the lenovo download site with no success the drive is fine  - I hooked it up to an external enclosure and the data is still there but my W700 will no longer boot from it. Is there a firmware update I can get for my Corsair SSD - or does somebody have a copy of an old version of the W700 bios  I think I need to revert the controller to version 1.03 and it may work

I have a P200-17C notebook, and downloaded the BIOS update from TEMPO alerts, however, when I try to run the installation programme I get a message stating that the ROM file is the incorrect size. Can anyone please help me?

Answer:BIOS update stops running on Satellite P200-17C - ROM file is incorrect

Hi,

a little suggestion from me: go to [THIS|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
site and download the latest BIOS for your model type. The BIOS update should work and tempo should stop giving you a message that your BIOS is not up-to-date.

Greetings

Here is my problem with my A200-1AE (PSAECE) Notebook:
I downloaded the latest BIOS update from the Toshiba download drivers library to install Win XP since finally the drivers are realized. (Note the update clearly stated to run ONLY if you want to install XP on you NB).

So I unzipped the file and after hitting the .exe file it started updating the BIOS on its own without me giving the liberty to do so. Half way the N/B froze for about 20 minutes and as I didn?t know what else to do so I reset it.

Result? The NB does NOT boot. I press the power button, the Hard Drive icon flashes 2-3 times as well as the DVD drive, I get a blank screen and the power cord & power button icons constantly on. I removed the battery and the power cord for 48 hours hoping it will reset the BIOS on its own to no avail.

The BIOS battery is under the touchpad which means I have to disassemble the whole laptop and I am not ready to do so. I don?t know if on the motherboard there are BIOS reset jumpers and I need someone?s help as to what I should do. I am starting to think that things where MUCH easier back to when I just had a desktop PC.

THERE must be something I can do other that taking it to the service center and pay half the value of the laptop in repairs.... PLS HELP I?m desperate....

Answer:Blank screen & no booting after running BIOS update on Satellite A200-1AE

Hi there,

first of all: a notebook is not a desktop and such mobile computer does not have jumpers like a deskop computer. They surely have something to delete the BIOS but I am not so sure IF resetting the BIOS could help you.

I guess you will have to send your machine to a service center for repair because in such cases you will have no other option. Do you have still warranty on this machine?

I have downloaded System Update 313-2008-3-13 onto my T43 but I cannot run it as it has downloaded as systemupdate313-2008-3-13.exe-3895cd31.pf and I can't open this file to run and hence update my system.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated as I have 5 of these machines to get up and running.  On one of machines I cannot install the system update even though I have installed all the necessary windows updates. thanks,  Jane Message Edited by Gingellbell on 04-06-2008 01:21 PMMessage Edited by Gingellbell on 04-06-2008 01:24 PM

Answer:Running System Update

Hello,I would suggest that you try downloading the file again to a location you will remember, such as your Desktop or a folder such as C:\TEMP\ and then run the program from there.  If it still saves with a .PF extension, try renaming the file to an .EXE extension and then running it. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

This is not a question, but really a suggestion to all of you who are about to update your BIOS. Lenovo released a new BIOS version for Lenovo Yoga 720 15 inches (BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.4MCN24WW. This update brought back fan noise and frequently operation like it was before the BIOS update (BIOS Update - 10 [64] - V.4CN23W).  So the 24th version of the update is running fans as loud as the 22nd version. No good. If you know how to fix this problem then please let me know. Please do not update your BIOS because it brings back loud fan noise. I am hoping the fan issue thing will be fixed. The reason I did not want to purchase Lenovo Yoga model because they have been notoriously known for fan noise. The problem that was fixed with the 23 version of the BIOS update seems to be back with the 24 version.
