I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Thinkpad with extended battery pack that would last  almost 13 hours.  It no longer lasts very long.  Also, I get a message that says Battery Condition is Good but Second Battery is in Error.  or Battery 2 is in error. Does Battery 2 refer to my removable battery pack?  Should I buy a new one?I am not very knowledgable about computers in general.Thank you for any help.

Hi All, I have a Thinkpad T520. It won't charge the battery (% charged stays at the same level) and it won't run from the battery only. If I turn off/remove AC power the computer dies immediately and it won't start up without the AC power plugged in. The battery is definitely good, it works in another computer. Is this a problem which I can fix myself? Can it be repaired? Will it be expensive? Will it require a new motherboard? It is not under warranty. Thanks, so much SV P.S. Any suggestions will need to be written in fairly simple terms, I'm no expert

Answer:Thinkpad T520 won't charge battery or run from battery power.

The problem is the charging circuit on the motherboard. It might be a fuse, but that is soldered to the motherboard, so unless you have a well-equipped repair place with a rework station (not a dealer) they cannot replace the fuse. If it isn't a fuse, it is probably a power transistor, and you are not likely to find someone to fix it. Probably, you will need a motherboard

Hi guys,I am very happy user of Lenovo T520. I have upgraded to Intel 520 SSD disk and ram to crucial 2x4GB DDR3 and laptop is performing very well ! When I bought my T520, I bought one replacement battery- 9 cell battery(laptop came with 6-cell). I have used it about 10-30 times only and kept it always only 80% charged in cool place(actually at room temperature 22C approx). After one year of no-usage I wanted to start using this replacement battery again. I am very disappointed and confused. I have inserted my 9-cell battery with only 20 charging cycles and it has very low capacity and runtime. Please help me? What happned with my nearly 3 years old, but never used battery??? My 6 cell battery(about 200 cycles) is like new and performing very well(3 hours runtime and 95% capacity) See attached Many thanks for any useful advise

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500: battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery

Hi, Denkendale ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Do this test -

1) Switch off the laptop.
2) Disconnect power supply. Keep the battery connected.
3) Try to Turn ON the laptop.

If the laptop does not turn ON, the battery is faulty.

Also, Try turning the laptop off, removing the battery, unplug the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for thirty seconds, install the battery back into the laptop but don't connect the power cable and try to start the laptop on battery power.

Update us how it goes.

When I access a website in MS Edge - like eBay - and want to delete an item in my watch list, eBay presents me for a message box, for me to confirm the removal by OK or Cancel. That window starts to flicker transparently. It only stops when I place the mouse pointer on the OK button. When I remove the pointer it starts flickering again.I have swept the Internet in effort to find a useful solution.Windows 10 and MS Edge is running on my Thinkpad.I hope someone could help - I have spent hours running in circles. Thanks, AndersPS. I forgot to mention that I am unable to reproduce the problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer (11) and Google Chrome!I know I could just use one on mentioned browsers but I would truly like to get to the bottom of this issue.

Hello, I have a laptop with a broken touchpad. We tried updating the drivers, etc. but it didn't fix the touchpad. Both the touchpad and trackpoint were not functioning, but we went into BIOS and disabled the touchpad, after which the trackpoint regained functionality. We assume that the touchpad is dead and would like to know how to replace it or if that's possible. Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T520: Replacing the touchpad?

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can replace the touchpad electronics only. Unfortunately there is no instructions on the Hardware Maintenance Manual from Lenovo, but is pretty easy.

You will need to remove the palmrest first, follow the instructions from said manual, which you can download from here: click me! (chapter 1100)

Then you'll need to buy the touchpad, search in Ebay, Amazon and so on... This is an example from an eBay listing: http://www.ebay.ch/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T520-Touch-Pad-w-cable-920-001288-01-/361267030569?pt=LH_Defa...

Does the BIOS need updating? Any recommendations on how to do that? Or other soultions.
Thanks.

Hi, we have two T520s at work however unfortunately one of the harddrives on one of the T520s has failed and although the documents were backed up regularly no recovery media was created. My question is could I create a recovery USB from the good T520 to restore the other T520 that now has a fresh HDD in it. Btw these are exactly the same models - same CPU, RAM, screen etc. Thanks

Yes.  When you are done, run sysprep on the "fixed" machine to change security info so you don't end up with duplicate security IDs on your network.  (found in windows\system32\sysprep)

I?m considering buying a Thinkpad T520 and the only thing that is holding me back is the fan pulsing noise that a few users have reported (which I?m assuming is true for all T520s, not just an isolated few cases). In order to avoid the pulsing, is there a way to set the fan so that it spins constantly (different speed based on the temperature range)? Thank you for your help!

Answer:Thinkpad T520 (or other lenovo models) pulsing fan question

you would have to use the latest version of the TPfancontrol to control the fan. http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html

Hello Lenovo friends! I've got ThinkPad T520 and I really love it, but there is no issue that makes me worried about data security. There are some moment when hard disk gets hang up for about one minute. It is rate, usualy it happens when trying to log into Windows 7... interface is still active, but hand disk is hang (green diode is on continuously), it seems that everything is blocked because of disk, yet it looks like it is doing nothing during this time. There are also some rare cases when it happens when I do some work on it.I am not sure what is the reason of this issue. I guess that it might be either:a) internal (maybe physical) fault in hard disk ORb) there are some services in Windows 7 that makes it hang so long (my Windows directory is about 17 GB ! It was already that big after installation, I am second user of this computer, I bought it one month ago, there are still 2 years of warranty). The hard disk is C300-MTFDBAK128MAG (SSD). Do you have similar experience with this computer / hard disk ?I called support call center in Poland today and they suggested to do:1) run and test Windows 7 in "diagnostic mode" (msconfig) OR2) Update firmware of this hard disk OR3) send the computer to servicve center Obviously I don't want to waste time, because I use this computer for work. Do you know what might be the issue and what to do best to fix it? Thanks a lot!

Use SSDlife to evaluate the drive health. And/or use HDTune to check the SMART data. This behavior is consistent with bad sectors on a spinning platter drive; I'm not sure what the equivalent on an SSD is.

Hi,I have just bought Thinkpad T520 model type 4243AG1, but it came to me with 32bit version of Windows 7 onboard although the description on Lenovo website states that this model type comes with Win7 Pro 64bit.Can I somehow install 64-bit Windows 7 Pro and still use the existing OEM-license?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T520 4243AG1 came with 32bit OS installed

Hi rsinner, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Hmmm, not sure how that happened. You can change bits, either by getting 64-bit recovery bits from Lenovo (you shouldn't have to pay for them if this is an error), or by using any Windows 7 install media and the activation key under the battery.

I just installed the latest update to the "Lenovo Solution Center" and it shows an "issue", namely that my D: Drive is almost full (see screenshot below). Issue message "You are using 97% of your hard drive partition capacity. (286.4GB free of 465.75 GB)". However it does not seem to offer any meaningful way to resolve the issue.  I understand that this is a recovery partition. I do not store any data on it. When I look at the drive it does not show any files or folders. When I look at it with "properties" it does show that it is almost completely full though. Windows backup has not been set-up.  Is this really an issue? If not can, I turn off the constant warning messages? If so how? Is my system likely to run out of capacity on that drive? What can I do to resolve this issue other than completely removing my recovery option?   System spec, Win 7 64 bit, 8 GB Ram, 2 drives - 1st Solid State - primary 160 GB, 2nd HDD 500 GB

patient, welcome to the forum,

originally your system had the 3 cell battery installed. If you feel you could use a little extra stamina you could opt for the 6 cell battery. As an added extra, there is also a 3 cell battery you could use in place of the optical drive.

Hope this helps

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

I am having problems with the Battery Status LED on my new laptop.  The LED turns blue at around 22-30% charge and the Hardware manual indicates it should be 95%, also the LED remains lit when fully charged on battery power when it should be off. The biggest problem is that I have no idea on when the battery is charged and I should not need to boot into windows to check this. I have already returned an identical model to the retailer for the same reason, they did confirm that the unit was faulty and send me another which seems to have the same suspected fault. Has any one else have the same problem as me, I am not too sure if I should return the 2nd unit for a refund and look elsewhere? I did contact Lenovo support before and was advised to get it repaired under warranty, I did not need to do this as the unit is less than 30 days old and I wouldbe entitled to a refund or replacement. Below is an excerpt from the manual I downloaded from this website. Thanks, Mark.  Blue: The battery is charged to 95% or more of its capacity.Blinking blue: The battery is being trickle-chargedOrange: The battery is being normally chargedOff: The computer is operating on battery power, and the battery has enough powerBlinking orange: The computer is operating on battery power, and the battery is charged to no more than 8% of capacity.)

My P40 Yoga has started giving me the following error message when starting up: "This system does not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo-made or authorized. The system will continue to boot, but may not charge unauthorized batteries." Does anyone know why this occurs and how to fix it? I had seen older posts for other models that require the battery to be removed, but I believe the P40 Yoga's battery is integrated / not intended to removed by the user. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I have a thinkpad 1411 i series from 1998. A workhorse. I always use the machine plugged in. Original battery.

Was getting a battery bad/drive OK message, then I would hit enter and it would boot up.

Now will not boot at all.

Can't it work with just the plug or do I have to buy another battery?

I just use it for a word processor and family photos now. but I like it for that. I have a dell dual core /quad for the web.

Shouldn't it work with just the plug, I don't get it?

Thanks for advice

Answer:IBM Thinkpad 1411 i series battery bad message won't boot

Not all notebooks will work without a battery. I have a Toshiba A70, and had issues a while back which I thought was the battery, so I tried running without it. Try taking the battery out and see if it starts. Keep in mind that it's a good idea to cycle batteries in notebooks even if they are always plugged in, they should be discharged maybe once a month or so.
Your particular error seems to be coming from the CMOS, maybe you can look at that, considering its been 11 years, maybe its due for a change.

After a system update yesterday my laptop battery icon indicates that it is plugged in not charging.  A quick Google search revealed this is a known problem however attempts at some of the suggested fixes have been unsuccessful in my situation.  I've tried:taking out the battery and uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Batteryupdating the power management driverupdating Lenovo Settings Dependency Package(The Windows power plan is set to balanced) The timing of the problem (after an update) and the fact that the laptop is 2 months old lead me to think it is a software rather than a hardware problem. Any helpful suggestions for what I could try next?

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance  on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues?  I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello!I bought my Edge 420 two years ago and really love it. But after installing WIndows 8.1 battery life decreased for 2.5-3 hours from one battery charge. I don't wanna back to Windows 7, because I like new OS without any lag and problem. Not long ago I read about 9-cell battery and want to buy it. But where? Which store or place do you recommend for buying? And I know, that batteries capacity may go down because of time (laptop sales have begun in 2011). Should I buy new 9-cell battery? Or just forget about it and continuing using my old 6-cell?Thank you for replies!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E420. 9-Cell Battery.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Capacity of a battery declines as the battery ages, with the number of charge cycles and time at high temperature. Under average usage patterns your battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity after the first year of operation.

If you feel that the battery backup is too low, try doing a battery firmware upgrade and BIOS update. Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.

Refer this knowledgebase which explains some tips to improve battery backup.

Still if you feel like getting a battery replacement, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support. I'm sure they would be of great help.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello again, I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have a computer problem. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I recently cleaned out the hard drive. I reinstalled the operating system and last night, the battery charged 100%, and a few hours ago, when I plugged the charging charging cord into the computer and turned the computer on, and the computer said the battery was at 5% charge, plugged in but not charging. (P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

Hello Guys, Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem, I decided to write here, hoping that someone (either from team Lenovo or from the users) have the same problem and therefore can help me. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 model (version 0217). (I bought it from a friend, since it was not shipped anymore when I decided to buy it.)I have problems with my battery. The design capacity of it is 62.12 Wh, I used it wisely, so it wasn't always charged up to 100%. I always discharge it down around 5-7% and then plug in the AC adapter. (See image.)  My first problem is that in the last 3 months, the capacity is gone down to 45.88 Wh and I can't really figure out why. Can this be a generic problem with the battery? My second problem is - for which I've found another topic here but it didn't help me - that when I charge the battery, charging stops at 99%, showing "3 minutes is remaining" and if I unplug and replug the adapter, it stops as 99% saying it is fully charged. In the battery maintenance, I changed the settings from "Always fully charge" to Custom, but still, it won't charge up the battery fully.  My third problem is that I updated the BIOS of my laptop some days ago and when I try to search for a battery firmware update or when I do a battery gauge reset, the system suddenly shuts down without any warning or whatever. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this, I really love my laptop but it really bugs me..... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217) battery problem

1) Battery do wear out eventually, you already have 234 cycles on the battery. So the battery capacity drop in the latter part of the cycles count is quite normal. It is nature of these battery to wear out. 2) For thinkpads, this behaviour is quite normal, this helps to prevent unnecessary wear on the battery cell. Once you use your battery back to say 95% or so, it will recharge back to 100%. 3) Are you saying that your laptop no longer works or that it intermittently shuts down?

Hello, I would like to update bios on my T61 but unfortunately battery died back in the stone age. The whole notebook is a Dual core 1.8 Ghz without Nvidia graphic card and with 2 gigs of ram. Basically the whole flashing process don't even begin due to the fact that battery is completely unusable.  1. There is an excellent thread by CT809, that led to a solution for this very problem.

Re-installed Lenovo Settings Dependency Package and the Power Management Driver, then when I rebooted and went into Lenovo Settings, this option popped up. Ensure that its placed to "fully charge".

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

I'm not sure whether my battery is genuine or not, it doesn't say "Lenovo" on the bottom, nor does it say anything on the bottom at all, but every now and then (like 1 in every 3 times I power up my Thinkpad) this message pops up and tells me "the battery installed is not a genuine Lenovo battery." It's annoying and intrusive, but shutting down and restarting seems to get rid of the problem. It's so confusing too, since I've had this battery for months now and only recently has it been acting up like this. I bought the battery off of Amazon.com for about $60, which would make me think it's indeed NOT a genuine Lenovo battery, but it works just fine for me and I've never had problems with it until about three weeks ago, when this all started. My guess is the problem is aggravated by the battery not being seated firmly enough in the laptop, because admittedly the battery is somewhat loose in its mounting. I actually AM beginning to think it's not a genuine battery, but why would it only tell me so SOMETIMES? And why did my laptop accept my battery for months up until now? Is there anything I can do?

Answer:I get "Not a genuine Lenovo Battery" message only sometimes

Hi adept25,

I believe if you uninstall Power Manager, the notification would stop.

In regard to genuine, one way to tell is by searching the FRU part number (that the Power Manager shows) on lenovo's website:- http://i53.tinypic.com/noeao6.png

Hope this helps.

I received my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2gen (i7, OLED). Unfortunately the CPU usage is constantly around 30% (reaching up to 100%), the fan is on all the time and the battery is empty in 2 hours. The main reasons for the high CPU usage are the following three programmes:- Sophos web intelligence (which I have to have installed according to my employer)- WMI provider host (I tried deinstalling it, but then I can no longer access the network drives)- Synaptics TouchPad 64-bit EnhancementsAny ideas what I could do to solve the issue? Thanks!

Hi there, I am after few laptops and Thinkpad W530 tops my list - beating Elitebooks and Precisions in the process. I am after the top spec and a Quad-Core is a must (virtualisation + some heavy development). What makes me worried though is the reported CPU throttling issue of W530 that occurs while laptop runs on battery power (unplugged from AC) only - all the way down to seriously low 1.2Ghz! Happens when the discreet NVIDIA card is on. I can understand physics behind it as there might be not enough output wattage left to drive K1000 (35Watts) or K2000 (45Watts) but those kepler GPUs are still a far cry from 100Watts GTX680 present in some (though some 17inch) laptops with very little throttling happening. New quad core retina Macbook pro with its 45W GT 650M graphics card exhibits no serious throttling issue whatsoever while on battery - proof it can be done. Only as an example though, retina Macbook is no good for me. I wouldn?t mind bit of it say to 2-2.2Ghz still keeping the GPU and full power and active but to throttle the CPU down to some entry level ULV 1.2Ghz I find quite outrageous - as reason to consider laptop in the first place (dashing Elitebooks for instance) is portability and ability to work on the go purely on the battery power (whether battery lasts for 2 hours or for 5 hours would not matter much, hibernate swap the batteries all of this with SSD is less than a minute). 1.) Is there a way around this? Forcing 3rd party BIOS and... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 CPU throttling issue while on battery power - few questions or any solution?

It depends on the configuration of the cells in the battery pack. Those laptops generally have more cells (like a 12-cell pack), likely wired to allow for such loads at the cost of battery life. AFAIK, the 9-cell will also throttle.Supposedly, you can use ThrottleStop to counter the throttling, but do so at your own risk and all that jazz. Nevertheless, if you plan to impart such a drain on the battery pack often, expect to replace it within one or two years.

Is this the kind of support lenovo now offers? First your tech support folks at your call center hang up on me when I call in a problem with the battery. Now you delete the message I posted about the same battery not charging on your forums?

Answer:Lenovo Laptop Battery DOES NOT WORK AND YOU DELETED MY MESSAGE!!!

Welcome to the forum! Your message was not deleted.  It was merged into an existing thread about the N100 battery problems.  See, it's right here. As far as your comment about Lenovo's support, yes, some Lenovo employees do read and post to this forum.  Mark is quite active, and several others post as well.  However, here are the expectations of their participation from the Welcome message: These communities have been created to provide a high quality atmosphere in which users of Lenovo products and services may share experiences and expertise. While members from Lenovo may participate at intervals to engage in the discussions and offer advice and suggestions, this forum is not designed as a dedicated and staffed support channel. The bottom line is there's no guarantee that you will get an answer to a question here directly from Lenovo.Locking thread.Message Edited by nonny on 08-07-2008 07:19 PM

I purchased 4 of these for my company in December 2011 and today have had to arrange for the 3rd one to be returned to Lenovo with the same problem.  The battery stops charging and will not hold charge and will not run unless powered into ac supply. The laptop will then not power on at all, completely dead no lights / sounds etc and when returned the previous 2 they have replaced the motherboard and have had no problems since. Even though have had this problem with 2 of the others Lenovo Technical Support have still said have to return it at my expense which because of the data included on it have had to return special delivery costing £25 a time. They are returned withuin 7 days but think there may be a problem as this is a 75% failure rate. Anybody else had this problem as is putting me off buying anymore?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E520 i5 Laptops with Windows 7 - Dead Laptop with Battery Problems

Since you got the machine In December then this maybe the case, as some batch of these machines were affected by the EEPROM issues.

There is nothing on the Internet that I found to document the exact process to remove and replace the internal battery on the Twist. So, wen the battery died on my Twist I video taped ow I did it. I made some mistakes, read the description, but I am creating this post on it now, I have an operational battery and the computer seems no worse for the amateur wear. This is not a video series that is endorsed by anyone nor should it be a replacement for professional service. Do not attempt! Do not consume. Recycle as your state and country law's dictate. Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

When Battery Status Indicator turns orange (20% battery) the Yoga 13 becomes very slow The trackpad stops working, and the laptop in desktop mode becomes unusable. The volume also is turned down to 0, the volume status window is always present in the top left of the screen and even if I use the keyboard buttons to increase the volume, the laptop immediately reduces the volume again to 0 within about a second. Interestingly using the Windows Metro screen and the touch screen, most of the Windows Apps are okay, but not all touchscreen functions work, for example swiping the screen to get the charms menu does not work. I have tried disabling the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal framework in the BIOS and uninstalling the Intel Dynamic framework drivers but it has made no difference. Any ideas ?In its current state the laptop may as well turn itself off at 20% battery  ThanksKevin

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

HI , I'm have ing trouble with my HP Pavilion 15p077TX  Notebook (1yr 6 months old), its battery charge got stucked at 2% (nor further charge loss nither is it getting charged), I'm currently using it via my AC Adaptor and the irony is that I'm posting this from it in the same condition. Things i've tried so far:- Updating the bios (Current BIOS Version/Date : Insyde F.42, 18-03-2015) {I have a doubt about the bios version here cause when I tried to check the current bios its showed me this one and F.7 for Intel Processor, not sure If its the proble with this case.}- Uninstialling the ACPI -Compliant Control Method Battery andn then redetecting it- Updating the support assistant and running the battery check which gives an unknown 93 error (tried both VERSION:  8.2.8.25 and VERSION: 7.7.34.34 )- Unpluging the battery and the ac adapter and holding the power button for a whole minute-Tried HP Diagnostic Tools' Battery Check which took like 10-15 minutes and responded as no battery is pluged in. Right now I don't have much in my mind to try on this, If anyone knows anything please do share, that might me helpful. Thanks in Advance.Enigma

Answer:Battery check Unknown 93 status, Battery not charging, stuck...

Hey @EnigmaDimirti, Welcome to the forums. I'm here to help. I would strongly suggest Testing and Calibrating the Battery. Should that not solve the issue, I would suggest calling in for support to see about replacing the battery, as it should not be displaying "no battery is pluged in" when you run a battery check. Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html If this helps, please hit that Thumbs Up, and Accept as Solution. Cheers,TechSurge.

Hello, I am planning to buy a used laptop (since I can't really afford a new one, at least not a good one). I found a good deal on ebay on a used Thinkpad T520, which is still under guarantee by Lenovo. I want to buy it, but when I googled a bit about this model, I came across some problems on a particular batch of motherboards for T420, T520, that were produced in late 2011 (see here for example). This particular laptop that I want to buy was manufactured on June 2012, so, in theory, it should be safe. But I don't want to spend my money without being sure, so I thought that I should ask you first (before buying it), and make sure that this batch of T520s that were build on June 2012 are good.

Answer:Used Thinkpad T520 - Should I buy?

AFAIK, there are no known widespread motherboard defects with the T520.

Question: thinkpad t520

I have bought a Lenore thinkpad t520 4240 with Windows 7 for work. Unfortunately most of the software the company uses is made for Windows XP. I have tried the Virtual XP and doesn't work cleanly with all pgms. So I installed window XP pro and I can't get all the drivers to work or load. Trouble is with "other devices"...Base System Device...Biometric Coprocessor..PC Serial Port...etc.

Answer:thinkpad t520

You will need to install windows XP drivers for all these devices.  Also, I would have recommended that you resize your existing partition and made a new partition to install winXP, then you could have a dual boot setup so you can use either OS. If you installed winXP overtop your win7, then it's too late, but you could do a system restore to revert to Seven, then edit your partition with a freeware app/liveCD cared "parted magic". However after installing WinXP on your second partiton, you'll need to restore the Win7 boot manager, but I can help you with that if you go this route. Also keep in mind that if you're going to be using a 32bit version of WinXP that you'll be limited to about 3GB of ram, so you defintely may wish you kept your win7 if you don't.

Hi all, i have read only once somewhere of my problem but have not found a solution:with a new T520 (4242-W18) equipped with a Core i5-2520M i have only 800 MHz and no means to increase this, if i work with AC plugged in and without battery (to preserve its capacity). All tests show no abnormalities and i found out, that the processor runs with normal speed (2.5 GHz and more) if AC is plugged in and also the battery is inserted. I have all the newest drivers installed, BIOS 1.27, the Lenovo Win7 professional system etc. and have previously also tried to do a complete clean install of a Win7 ultimate but nothing changed this. At present i work on AC with battery but that is not satisfying me. Has anybody encountered such a problem and/or has anybody an idea what might be the problem? Best regardsStefan

Answer:T520 Core i5 only 800 MHz on AC without battery, on AC WITH battery 2.5 GHz

This is intentional behavior. You can set a charging threshold on the battery through Power Manager to prevent it from charging fully. This will extend the lifespan of the battery considerably.

I have no sound on ThinkPad T520 except at headphone jack, Win 10 version 1607 OS build14393.351, I have a ThinkPad T420 with Win 10 version 1607, OS build 14393.447 the T420 has sound from speakers and headphone jack. I have the latest Conexant driver in the T520, I have done all the "problem solvers" i can find online and nothing works. Is this a software problem or equipment problem.

Answer:No sound on Thinkpad T520

Troubleshooting Thinkpad audio - You have described a hardware problem with the T520. Download the hardware manual from Lenovo and determine if the headphone jack is part of a replaceable assembly and replace it if so. If the headphone jack is part of the system board the problem is more complicate to repair. You can go to Lenovo's site, plug in the full model number, like 5170-339, and locate the hardware manual--Lenovo's forum is the best place for help with a ThinkPad.

I am currently having issues with PXE booting a ThinkPad T520.  The Intel Boot Agent version is v.1.3.66The PXE Menu Boot File is v.1.10 On the backend, we are running Symantec Ghost 11.5.1.  We also have ThinkPad T410s.  Those PXE boot just fine.  The Intel Boot Agent version is v.1.3.51 Has anyone else experienced this particular issue?  Please advise.  Thank you. Samson

Answer:ThinkPad T520 PXE boot

For what it's worth, I am having the exact same issue on the T520 series machines as well as X220 machines. Symantec has suggested to use an alternate NIC driver in the WinPE image but that has not resolved the issue for me. This is apparently a common problem (numerous postings around the internet) with any of the 20 series Lenovo machines. Lenovo uses PXE Ghost imaging to prep the machines so it would be great if they could simply point to the drivers they use in their PXE image.

Hi I just ordered a Thinkpad T520 with a 500gb HDD, and would like to install an Intel 510 Series 120GB SATA III (Solid State Drive) as my primary boot drive. The questions I have : 1) Can I install a SSD drive without voiding the warranty? 2) What about the Lenovo software on which the OS and system software is installed? Will the ability to restore to original software not be lost if I make the SSD my primary drive? 3) Can I run the SSD as primary drive, 500GB HDD as secondary whilst keeping the DVD/R in the laptop or will  the DVD/R have to go? Thanks in advance

Answer:Installing a SSD in a Thinkpad T520

Yes you can if you're the type of person who demands fast load times. That all you get from an SSD. The down side is when the fail you've lost everything. I have has some friends contact me and had failures which their SSD when south and everything is gone. In most regular hard drives you can get the info off the drive. Rarely is it gone so bad that you can get some or most of the data off. That said. The SSD would have to go in the Primary location which is an easy swap physically (open cover, pull the drive out with the tab and remove the rubber bumpers for the SSD). I would pull the battery before doing this to be sure. The 500GB can going in and Ultrabay carrier but be sure the get the right one 12.7mm not the 9.5mm. and of course your DVD is offline now. That is the biggest issue with this design for many of us who have been acustomed to dual drives. You almost need an external carrier for the DVD via eSATA for example if you want to burn or access data on the 500GB 2nd drive. Why? When you pull the Utrabay drive out everything you've stored is gone and with the DVD in only what is on the SSD (much lower capacity) is all you have access to.

I got this t520 which has really been great apart from the creaking palmrest. As I'm not the original purchaser of the laptop will I be able to get warranty replacement for broken parts etc., it has a 3 year warranty on it. Im not apart of any business therefore I don't want to call if the need ever arise and have them think that it is stolen. Can anyone offer any assisstance?

Answer:Traded MBP for thinkpad t520

Well if you got/get a letter from the seller and then see if you need to re-register it with Lenovo. Otherwise its just you saying so and if someone reports it stolen with the serial number. You have to go underground with the ground hogs.
