Preferred Solution: Satellite U screen hinge broken/loose

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

the hinge on my 2410-603 notebook has worked loose to the point where it will not stay up unless i lean it against something. I was wondering if i am able to tightenen this somehow or whether it would need replacing. Anyone have a guide of how to get at the hinge??, or anyone know how much a replacement one is likely to cost??.

I have searched on the net however havn't been able to find anything as yet.

Thank you in advance,
Jamie

Answer:Loose/Broken hinge on my Satellite 2410-603

Hi,

unfortunately it?s not possible to tighten it, so you will have to purchase new hinges.
I suggest you following:

Look at ebay for such machine you have (maybe a defective would be good) and let a technician exchange it or ask an authorized service partner how many an exchange of the hinges will cost.
If you need a link to find a ASP then you can try it here:

Good luck

The right hinge on my M 30 is to loose. I have tryed to dismantle the keyboard without succes, what to do?

Answer:Hinge on Satellite M30 is loose

Hi there,

the problem is that you cannot repair it only by tighten some screws. If the hinge on this model is loose then you will need new hinges and to exchange them, the whole machine must be disassembled since the hinges are partially under the palm rest and on the lcd installed.

So, if you want to fix that you should search for an technician which can fix it. Better solution would be to contact an authorized service partner:

This is how I fixed my wobbling screen. My laptop is almost 4yrs old and it is the Y550p(i7). Within my 4yrs I have dropped my laptop and even chipped my slide nav. Now I have it in desktop mode, because my iPad replaced it in portability. The problem I had was screen not staying open in the position I wanted, because of the loose hinge. http://youtube.com/watch?v=fzmjH1rM1DY

I've had my Y550 for about 3 months now and everythings been fine with the construction of the computer. However, I bought this computer because the screen hinge on my last computer slowly broke down to the point where it was difficult to keep the screen in one position because it flapped around so much. Now, only 3 months in, the screen hinge is loosening quickly,, and moves back and forth over an inch, or several degrees. I thought this was a good computer. Now I'm worried the same thing that took 3 years to happen to my old laptop is going to happen within 6 months on this one. Is this fixable with a quick fix or can i send it in on warranty?

I purchased a Lenovo X220 Tablet through my High School. Its a great computer, but really built horribly. It is not even 7 months after having it, and my screen is starting to get extremely flimsy. I have heard there is a way to fix this, love to! Thansk!

Answer:Loose Tablet Screen Hinge

if what you mean by flimsy is wobbly screen hinge, then you would need to send the laptop in for repair.

Hi there - I have an Aspire V5 touchscreen - when I went to close the lid, the screen cracked and I spotted that the left hinge has come apart (risen and cracked the screen). Now the laptop wont work (touch screen is flashing, mouse doesnt work - exactly the same issue as the other posts on this forum). I see on this forum and google search that this is fairly common with Acer laptops (going back to 2010) and wondering why this wasnt fixed. Has there been a recall on this, does anyone know?  I see from a google search that HP fixed a design flaw on their laptops to stop this from happening once it was reported, several years ago (2008) (I wish I had known about this problem before I purchased). If you google that you'll get the information. I've only had my laptop a couple of years. I take excellent care of my laptops, and never had this issue. (I dont travel with it, and dont close the lid often - it sits stationary on my desk and is only 2 years old).   I've sent emails out to my friends working in technology this afternoon - and so far no one has ever had this issue although no one has Acer.  Its a huge inconvenience as I use this laptop for work.  So I'm just waiting to hear back from Acer.Any suggestions on getting this fixed or replaced asap?

Hello i bought this model a year ago and in 6 months the right hinge started to act weird...didn' t close the lid properly...and now it's broken... i couldn't take it at the time to fix it because of my work.. it has 2 years warranty but here in Greece they say it doesn't cover it and they want 80 euros plus VAT and about 20 days to fix it!! and my graphic card strarted to act funny and its matter of time when it's going to burn it!!!

Where can i find a part of the right hinge? or how can i fix it?

Unfortunately my Toshiba L450D Laptop's hinge keeps splitting when the screen is adjusted. When the screen is put back/adjusted backwards a wide gap appears between the LCD screen and the casing and there is a lot of noise.

When the screen is adjusted forwards (like closing) a huge gap appears on the back of the hinge. It appears that the hinge is not in correctly either and I believe this is happening because the hinge is stuck.

My laptop is out of warranty now as I would have taken it to a service station for the people to fix it.

My system specifications:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit (6.1, Build 7600)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: Satellite L450D
BIOS: Ver 1.00
Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) SI-42, ~2.1GHz
Memory: 1024MB (1GB) RAM
Display: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio
Input: Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad + Standard PS/2 Keyboard

Is there a manual way to fix this?

I appreciate any help given.

Hi,

Have anyone experienced problems with Satalite U840W broken hinges.

My hinge broke 2 weeks before the laptop was 6 months.

Toshibe service do not want to change it under warranty, even laptop have not been dropped or in our means mis treated - only normal open/close. Laptop stands more or less spotless.

I can see in several forums that there have been earlier problems with Satelite hinges, but can not find information on U840W.

Thans for any support.

Gert

Answer:Broken Hinge on my Satellite U840W

>I can see in several forums that there have been earlier problems with Satelite hinges, but can not find information on U840W.
From time to time someone reports about such issues but on this forum I think you are the first one who has this problem with Satellite U840W. To be honest I don't know what to say about that.
I understand you but service must also follow the rules defined by notebook manufacturer. If there is no some general problem with hinges on certain notebook model I can imagine they are sceptic about that and don't want to repair t as warranty case.

The whole thing is a bit complicated now. Have you asked how much you must pay for repair?

Hi there ,

First post on here so please excuse any lack of local etiquette.

My son has a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 with a broken Hinge baseplate. I'm am calling it a baseplate as i cannot find the name of the part anywhere on the web so far.

Its obviously the metal plate on the base that the hinge attaches to.
You can even see it if you remove the battery.

Does anyone know what this part is called and where i could possibly purchase one ?

Kind regards

Jimmy

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - broken hinge baseplate - where to get the parts?

Hi

I think in such case the Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner) could help you.

You have to get in contact with this ASP in your country and the technician should be able to order a compatible part for the notebook.

Here you can find all ASPs worldwide:

Does anyone know the part number for a set of hinge/display supports for the T110-121?

Mine broke last week and I can't seem to source a replacement or suitable alternative.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite T110-121 - broken hinge/support bracket

Huh... it is not easy to get such information but, in my opinion, you don't need it. all Satellite T110 have the same hinges and there is no difference.
Different can be only mainboard and some other hardware components like HDD, Ram WLAN card and so on.

Basic stuff like hinges is the same. I don't know where do you live but try to use Google for your country and check if you can find ?Hinge Bracket Set or Laptop Hinges for Toshiba Satellite T110?.

Check also eBay for your country.

Hi

The display hinges replacement is not easy and a little bit tricky? the whole display must be disassembled and I presume someone without an experience could damage some parts during the dismounting procedure.
I recommend contacting the ASP for details and help.
The authorized service partner could also order the new and right hinges for this notebook directly from the Toshiba head warehouse.

Good luck and best regards

Hi does anyone know where I can get hold of a disassembly guide to replace my broken hinge? I have the part but want to make sure I strip it down correctly. Any help gratefully received.

Answer:Satellite 2450 -101 Broken Hinge - Disassembly guide required

Hi,

if you have no warranty on that machine then why do you need a disassembling guide? It?s not much to deal with disassembling that machine,
you just will have to unscrew EVERYTHING of the upper part of your machine, so if I were you I would fastly search a technician which is familiar with such machines, ask him for repair and give him some bucks for the repair.

The hinge on my computer broke last night all of a sudden. Nothing has happened to the computer; I've never dropped it, nothing has hit it, nothing has happened that should cause it to break. When it broke, the screen fell forward and it cracked the screen. I have looked everywhere on this website for someone to contact about how to get it fixed but all I can find is a link to FedEx to begin a service order. Has this ever happened to anyone else and does anyone know how much it would be to get it fixed? Is it worth it to ship it to Lenovo or would it be better to take it to a local repair person? Unfortunately the warrenty ended about six months ago.

Hi,I have a beloved 8 years-old Lenovo T500 which I cherish dearly(and also cannot afford at the moment to replace with a new laptop). Through wear-and-tear over the years the Screen's bottom left hinge has started to give way - the actual metal screw hole, inside the plastic screen frame cover has broken off and as a result the entire screen is touchy-loose and the plastic frame across that side is widely opened and braking off. I'm looking for a way to improvise a permanent fix from the outside -Where the laptop screen can be moved to change it's angle of view (and also closed of course).I want to achieve this without opening the plastic frame cover, as I've already done that a few times and since the entire thing is delicate I already caused further damage on the opposite side where the plastic is weak. I tried using the strongest duck-tape I could find in order to try and hold that corner together (a black 'demolition tape'). It didn't hold through.I've also tried to super-glue the duck tape to that corner with a tight snug. It also got loose due to the faulty mechanism's exerted pressure :-( Below are links to a couple of photos are in order to try and illustrate the problem(I apologize for the poor quality due to my old Nokia C2 3-Megapixels mobile phone camera):  (https://goo.gl/photos/E69JJdC57fjVWSLF6) (https://goo.gl/photos/xypQb2WTi3s8AQoY8)&... Answer:A desperate cry for help - broken T500 Screen hinge

Honestly, I don't think there's a fix from the outside only. My guess is that the magnesium frame inside the LCD assembly broke (the lower left corner). Unfortunately this is something very common in the T/W500 series.

The only fix I see is replacing the mg frame, for which you need to remove the whole LCD assembly.

Hi, I am hoping for assistance with repairing or replacing the screen hinge on the right side of my laptop.  When I open the screen I can see the actual laptop body splitting.  Looking inside the screw hole I can see broken black plastic and and hear something moving inside when opening/closing. The computer is only about 15 mo old, so it is out of warranty, but since it's my secondary laptop I would have expected something as basic as the hinge to last a lot longer than this!   Does anyone know if HP is able to send me a free replacement part that I can use to fix it myself? Thanks in advance,Matt

I purchased a HP Pavillion G7-2246NR Laptop with a 17.3 inch screen from Office Depot on Nov. 26, 2012.

The computer worked great until about a month ago when the left hinge seemed to be coming loose.  All I use this computer for is to surf the net at night while we watch TV so it rarely gets used.

Now the hinge has completely came out of the case and it has apparently  caused damage to the power button.  The computer will not power up at all.

I certainly believe this computer that I rarely use should have lasted more than a year and a half.  Is there a recall or some sort of free repair for these clearly defective units?

Please contact me for a solution,
Sybil [Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums. I am sorry to inform you that your post has needed some editing to remove personal information.]

Answer:Broken Left hinge on HP Pavillion G7-2246NR 17.3 screen

Hello @SFKervin , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand the hinge has broken on your notebook and it no longer turns on. It's possible that the chassis has separated preventing the power button from making contact with the power button board below. The simplest solution would be to replace the hinge. You can find detailed instructions on how to replace the hinge here: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide on page 57. You can order a replacement display hinge kit by searching the part number 682746-001 and the display hinge covers with part number 682747-001 (if needed) online from many retailers like Amazon, eBay, or the HP Part Surfer web store. Regarding any recalls you can see a list of active recalls for HP on the following website: Replacement programs and product recalls. Hopefully this helps!

Same porblem as all the others. The bottom left corner of the case has broken off leaving the hinge intact and hanging.  I see this is an HP QC issue as there are thousands of complaints yet few good resolutions posted..,

The hinges on my cousin's HP Pavilion ZV 6000 laptop have been broken and cracked for awhile. (One is broken, the other is cracked.) A few minutes ago he powered on the laptop only to find that the screen is completely black.

We're figuring that there must be a connection between the damaged hinges and the black screen.

We would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has an idea as to exactly what the problem is and how to go about fixing it.

Thank you.

In 2012 my mother and I both purchased the HP Pavillion g7 17.3 in screen laptops at different times. She purchased hers from Office Depot and I purchased mine from Walmart. About 2 months ago her laptop stopped closing properly and we noticed that the left hinge had dislodged from its intended position. A few weeks later her screen started to go out as well. We replaced the top cover and fixed the hinge but the screen is still unresponsive.  Two days ago, I noticed that my laptop started having the same problem and I find it very odd that both computers purchased from different locations and same "Pavillion g7" have the same casing malfunction. I have done a lot of research on this issue and there have been quite a few people with the same issue with their computers. Why has there not been a recall on this issue or at least HP should offer customers replacement parts for the known problem. I am very disappointed because I have always had HP laptops and printers but if the quality of these products are like this now, I may have to switch to a different brand. I hope someone can figure out what is going on and help with this situation.  Thanks

I had purchased this laptop, HP Envy M6-1090ee in August 2012. Soon after my warranty expired, the left hinge of the laptop started cracked and the screen frame too were affected because of this. Since I had to move between countries for short periods, I couldn't do anything about it. Until June 2014, when I contacted the HP service centre. After quite a few discussions regarding this issue, they decide to repair it for me. The repair was done and the machine didn't have any issue for a year. After which the same issue started cropping up. I have a HP case ID no. for the last service, that was given for the last repair. Any assistance regarding this will be highly appreciated and of a great help. Thank youAlex Robert

I've seen some similar posts for slightly older laptops, but I've got a hinge issue with my g7 2240us, bought in December 2014. The left hinge seems to have come loose, and a tab with a screw that is part of the hinge now pushes up on the casing of the laptop about half an inch high.  Not to mention the laptop will not fully close.  Any suggestions?

For two years, I had been a proud user of my big screen laptop until the day I opened the lid and the plastic behind the left hinge crumbled like a cookie. I was totally shocked. I hadn't hit my laptop against anything nor had I dropped it, why, I hadn't even carried it around like most people do. The bloody hinge broke just like that. I was in for more shock and disappointment when the screen casing came apart when I tried to close the lid. Before I knew it, the damage had been done. I realized that I could not use my laptop like I normally do anymore. Since then, I have left the lid open always lest it break the screen completely. On the Forum, I learned that this is a design issue and many more users have suffered broken hinges and casings. If that's the case, why is HP not recalling faulty models? I have been an ardent fan of HP for twenty years. (Talking of fans, ever since the hinge broke and the casing came apart, I have been getting error messages about the cooling fan not functioning properly, that I need to shut down my PC). My first computer was a HP Pavilion desktop and so was my first printer. A few years ago, I even designed a logo for HP Shadow Labs, but it was not selected as a prospective design. That's another story. Now, how am I going to take my laptop to the city which is 100 miles away when I cannot safely close the lid even? I am out of warranty, so I will have to pay for replacements and service. Why should I pay for something... Read more

Hi there, I have been reading many posts on this forum, and apparently I am not the only one with this problem: My HP Envy 6-1010sa left hinge has decided to go askew and it's making the left bottom edge of my screen to spit, as I open/close the screen. I have not read about any solutionsfrom HP on my fellow-commentators, so I'm not sure what to do. As everyone else, my warranty has just expired, the laptop is only approx. 1.5 years old. The laptop works totally fine, and the screen is fine too and normally I am really happy with this laptop! But I am really worried now, I don't want the screen to get damaged even more! Can anyone, from HP please, tell me how to fix this? The hinge is not broken I think, it just seems out of position and I cant get it back in position and it's pulling the screen apart. I'm based in Amsterdam, is there a HP repair department in Amsterdam where I can go to? It seems like such an easy thing to repair, I just want a professional to look at it and I can't afford a whole new screen/whole new laptop! Many thanks for you help in advance! Here is an image that someone else posted, mine looks exactly the same! (how odd) Thanks, Susanne

Hi, not a huge problem but just thought I'd get it checked out. Casing seems like its loose where I rest my arm, on the black strip near the mouse and power buttons are, as when I rest my arm on it when typing it clicks and squeaks on the right hand side and is starting to annoy me. (Don't ask).

Another thing, the hard drive seems loose as that is also clicking. I've tried to tighten up all the available screws that I can see but nothing has changed or helped..is anyone else having a similar problem? Don't want to send it off if that can be helped as it will take a while to come back and I need to use the laptop every day for work.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L300-1BV loose casing and seems like loose hard drive

Hi.

It seems that you have weird problems with your laptop. I think you must have done some updates to the laptop and now you have those problems. For the black strip panel, if you see a gap between the panel of the mouse and the micro input, you must have left a black thing (in square shape) somewhere before you put everything together. That black thing is used to cover the wireless switch. Also, if that couldn't fix the problem, it is normal if the gap happens after a bad upgrade.

For yoru HDD driver, there are many reasons for it. * I suggest you to give the laptop back to the service to check everything * I hope you haven't broken the warranty policy or they will charge you a little bit.

Regards.

My display screen on my laptop has come loose.
Does anyone know how I can fix it? Thanks

Answer:Satellite 2450 - loose display screen

Hi Deborah,

I presume that your notebook lid will not stay in the normal open position, in which case the friction hinges have worn and will need to be replaced. There is no way of tightening them up other than by replacing the hinges.

Unfortunately this will need to be done by an ASP since it will not be easy for you to get the new hinges yourself. :(

The screen on my Satellite 2450 has lost its resistance on the hinges, its either fully open or fully shut and won't hold itself in position.

The speakers either side of the hinge have lifted a little, can i get in and repair the damage?

Answer:Satellite 2450 - loose screen hinges

Hi

I'm sure that it's possible to repair it. But I think you will need the new hinges.
Such parts you can order from the Toshiba service partner in your country.
But without any experience it's not very easy to replace it.
I would recommend asking the service guys for the opinion and the advice.
Do not remove anything if you don?t know how to do that.

Even though I am a very caring user of electronics I was surprised when one day the left hinge for my Pavillion's lid came loose (I think a screw might have fallen off). From researching online I understand that this issue has been happening, a lot, to others as well. Before it gets worse and affects an otherwise well functioning computer, if you could please fix this issue. Before this issue occurred to my Pavillion, I have been regularly recommending HP laptops to family and friends. One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other. As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.  Is this single-hinge looseness normal? Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?

Answer:X230T Loose hinge?

Hi Bjc92,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that hinges of your Lenovo X230T had become loose after continuous switching between tablet and laptop mode.

Please refer to pages 67 & 103 in this user guide to see how to remove or fix hinge cap/ hinges.

Also, note that the hinges on laptops often become loose through wear and tear and will result in a screen that will not stay in place. In that case, tightening the hinges alone might not help resolve the issue. The hinges may have to be replaced.

Hope this information helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

The right hinge of my HP pavillion m6 1035dx entertainment notebook pc. What is the most economic way of fixing this simple issue. I figure I would go straight to HP as, business to customer, to ensure a better customer experience that is more frictionless with less obstacles. I bought this laptop as manufactured refurbed and assume maybe the hinge was loose in the first place because I have kept good care. I plan on upgrading the internal hardware as well but I need to make sure that the hinges and rest of external casing is dexterous and durable. Moreover, I can't find a reputable third party that I trust. So, I am going directly to HP. Please reply to me and give what options I can use. I figured I can just send my Laptop to HP and HP fixes it and sends it back or if there is a reputable third party HP can recommend. However, I strongly believe that HP is a better option in both HP and my interests. Third party is just a middle man that costs more not only for me but as well as for HP. Thus, no need for a middleman and I strongly believe in a simple customer experience and customer relations. otherwise, HP will be tarnished in customer service. I can't even talk to a representative about my issue. At least, from my experience on the Website and is just forums. Don't know what name to give it, the display, the screen - the clear plastic you look at - has come loose on the right side so now I have dust inside/under that cover that won't go away.  I've found lots of references to bad hinges but no others with this problem. And of course, my warranty expired 5 weeks ago. Any ideas?

I have kept my Notebook with great care and have never dropped or bumped it. After a yaer I noticed that the right side hinge has become a bit loose and within 3 months it has become quite loose. At the moment it seems to be manageable to fix the problem but I am afraid that in some time it might pop out of the plactic body. Is there a loose screw that can be tightened? What should I do to prevent more damage to the hinge and body?

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

I've had my y550p for 8 months now, and I just recently started noticing a huge ammount of wobbling. I just called in customer support to send it in for a fix, but the guy wasn't very clear on whether or not I could remove my harddrive before sending it in. He just said remove the battery and a/c adapter. I'm pretty sure I can remove the harddrive but I just want to double check to make sure. Also, After my warranty wears off, I eventually want to be able to fix a wobbly screen myself. Does anyone know where I can find a set of instructions to tighten the hinges?

The center part of the hinge on my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, which I've had for about 4 months, has come loose. It wouldn't really bother me much except that it's really sharp and I have cut myself on it. Is there a way to put back in myself or what can I do?

My Asus laptop is a few months old and the screen hinge seems to be getting looser and looser. It's not falling over or anything, but definately not as steady as it once was - you can wobble the screen a bit backwards and forth when it's up.My laptop is very similar to this:click herebut I'm not sure how to tighten up my hinges as I can't find how to get to them - presuming that it's loose hinges rather than just worn hinges. It's not a problem at the moment but I'd rather make sure I can fix it now, and if I can't do myself, send it off while it's still in warranty.Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Is it normal for some of the hinges to be slightly loose on the yoga 900? I wasn't sure since not all of them are loose. Also, I have one of the caps on the edge loose as well which I can take off and put back on (without it falling off easily). Not sure if it's worth sending it in... still on warranty. There is no cracking sounds etc. though and it is working properly.

It might be best to send it in to get the entire hinge replaced under warranty. See this thread about the same issue on a Yoga 3 Pro where Amy of Lenovo suggested this course of action:
