Hi, my X240 laptop has suddenly stopped turning on. When I press the power button, the indicator light flashes green three times. I've switched out the AC adapter, same result. Can anyone tell me what the three flashes indicate? Is my motherboard fried or is it potentially something else I can troubleshoot? Thanks!
More repliesI recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi,
I picked up this Alienware 5700 off ebay to hopefully refurbish for my son but I'm new at this and still learning and so this thing has me baffled. The laptop is in pristine condition but shows no signs of life. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the power supply goes from solid green to blinking rapidly to the point you can barely see it. To me that would mean a short somewhere right ? If so where ? Has anyone else ever had experience with something like this ? I just don't want to go buying a new battery for a laptop that maybe fried already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Remove the laptops battery and try the AC power only. If the green light does the same, it still could only be a bad AC adapter, or at worst, a shorted laptop motherboard
do you get any beeps when the machine starts?check the video cable is connected correctly to machine and monitor.try another video cable.do you see the post messages?check that your video card is correctly seated.i hate computers!but cant help myself....

More repliesHi, Even though I have internet access the indicator lights on the orange livebox have suddenly gone off combined with a security warning this morning. Where the green light used to be flashing to show different internet connections there are now no lights at all but I do have internet. I'm really concerned about this what should I do and is it a problem
Switch off the box at the mains.
Now switch off your computer.
Wait for two minutes, and switch everything back on.
If that doesn't clear things, try pressing button number one on the back of the box.
Hi,
My nephews computer has aol, (windows XP) and he doesn't have the green light modem indicator showing when sys is downloading, that windows, or my modem has in the start bar. We want to put it on his system so he can be aware of what is happening with the modem.
Isn't this a download program? Does anyone know the name of it and where I can get it?
I thought in years past I had seen it as greenlights.exe, but I can't find it now. I searched my computer, but only found a lights, and not sure what that does.
Thanks,
Yahoos.
My laptop was working fine yesterday, charging and powering on an off normally. It updated without my telling it to. When it was complete (since it said don't turn computer off until finished) I either just shut the lid or I shut it down when it was done. This morning when I wake up and try to turn it on it won't power up. Then I noticed that the power button was blinking, like it is in sleep mode, tried pressing 10 times then holding down power button for 30-60 seconds and still nothing. Next I saw that although the power is plugged in the battery light won't come on. I don't know if it is charging (it could be dead). I tried a bunch of different outlets and that isn't the issue. I also listened to the computer and there is a very soft high pichted noise that dissapears if you unplug it, and that when you hit the power button and it starts blinking, the sounds changes fom high to lower pitch and back again over and over. But no other sounds or fans kicking on or drive spinning. I am pretty sure it isn't the power cord but have no way of checking. And I can't remove the battery without voiding the warrenty. Anyone have any advice, besides calling to have Lenovo send me a box to send it back to Lenovo since it is only 4 months old and still under warrenty?
Suggest you eliminate problem 1. Do you have spare power supply unit? Worth trying that first. Your battery may be in sleep mode and won't wake up as battery is drained and hence needs charging. 2. You can go to local retailer and suspect a good one (John Lewis) will let you charge it for 30 mins. Ideally go back to person you bought it from. 3. Once you are in use restore to go back to last working point. I have to telll you the support from Lenovo and Microsoft was very very very disappointing. I tried to even return the PC and swop for HP as mine is only 2 months old. However, the answer was send back to Lenovo. Hope you find a way to get it charged
2 more repliesI just bought the P70 and see a green blinking light. It's bliking all the time, even if i am not doing much and its really irritating

So today I was just watching a YouTube video, not gaming, not doing anything too intensive. Suddenly my computer shuts off with the power button blinking green. No BSOD, just powered off and won't turn back on. I tried unplugging the power cable and holding down the power button for 30 secs with no luck. My computer is pretty hot idle at 60 degrees Celsius. But it's been this way for years with no problem. Could something overheating just by watching a YouTube video? When a CPU overheats it goes into blue screen right? So it can't be my CPU. I have a cooler master PSU. CM is a trusted brand. And I also have an MSI motherboard.
Doesn't necessarily mean the screen will blue out because of heat problems mate run the BIOS and post back the readings for the CPU temp (seems a tad high to me for idle) and the CPU fan speed.
The other thing to do is check out the PSU as well via these
PSU - Jump Start
http://www.sevenforums.com/vip/257690-psu-how-test.html#post2130086
but try the BIOS first and if you do the PSU stuff DO NOT attempt to open the device itself you just need to measure the volts on the leads. However volts does not necssarity mean enough current (amps)
Hi all,
I have a Portege M100.
Since ysterday the computer does not startup. When I push the power button, I hear the sound of the fan starting to work, but nothing else happens. The power indicator keeps blinking in orange.
I have removed the battery and tried starting up the computer with the power adapter plugged in, but nothing changes.
Any ideas about what might be the problem? I would greatly appreciate any help,
thanks in advance
yalin
Hi mate,
could eventually be the RAM, so please check the RAM modules and remove 1 module if you have 2 of them installed.
Otherwise, I would check if some another RAM module is available and install the well-known working module. If this still does not help then I would highly recommend you to bring your machine to an authorized service partner for a hardware checkup/repair.
Please give some feedback about your situation..
P.S.: you can try to remove battery and AC and leaving the machine without any power source for about 24 hours. Perhaps this helps?

Hi,
I am kind of new to computer Assembly.
This was my second one.
I assembled the following config system yesterday.
- VisionTek XTASY VTK9600XT256 Radeon 9600XT 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
- Pentium 3.2Ghz HT
- 512*2MB PNY RAM
- Creative Audigy2
- ECS 848P-A V2.0 Socket 478 Intel 848P ATX Intel Motherboard
When I connect everything perfectly, I connect my monitor to the Video Card (installed in the AGP Slot).
and when I boot up, everything looks to be just fine (with all fans working .. even the Graphics card), but I don't see anything on my monitor.
Its power Indicator just blinks..
what does this mean?
is the Graphics card not working? The monitor works as I have tried it on my laptop.can anybody suggest me how to trouble shoot from here?
Have you tried plugging the monitor into the onboard video. If it works you will need to let bios know you have an agp card or make a jumper setting on the motherboard. If it does not work reseat the video card and try again. If that does not work, borrow another known working video card to see if that works. Hope this helps.
4 more repliesThis just started happening recently. The power indicator light (near the power plug) does not turn on and Windows does not recognize when the adapter is plugged in; the power icon and cusomized power saving "on battery" behavior reflect that. HOWEVER, the battery does charge. The "lightning bolt" charging light on the front between HDD and system power lights comes on and the battery recharges if not at 100%. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Is it more likely a Windows or hardware problem? The BIOS does not have the power adapter test mentioned here, and I could not find the software download for the Smart Adapter functionality (this laptop was installed with clean, non-OEM OS, so any OEM software had to be added manually). Thanks in advance,Kyle

My computer was down when I came back from lunch and could not get it to come back on. If I hold the power button down for about 7 seconds it blinks orange but there is not noise from the fan coming on or post beep. Also the green light on the back is not on either. All of the other equipment sharing the same power strip come on but not the desktop so it is not the power strip. I also tried to set it up in another office on a completely different circuit and still does the same thing. What should I try next?
Which form factor, desktop, mini-tower, small form, ultra-small form?
From the (desktop) manual: Blinking amber light indicates a problem with the system board.
Are any of the 4 diagnostic LEDs on when it won't boot? ,They're on the front of the PC next to the power button. Look up error codes in the manual.
Possible power supply failure if the green light is off on the back. Can you try a different power cord? What happens if you push the power supply diagnostic button on back of PC next to that (green) power light?

Aloha: Pavilion 17-f001dx (Windows 10) Upon plugging in the AC Adapter, the laptop power led (White) blinks once, then goes dark. Pressing the start button, the Laptop will not boot, and the same LED blinks 3x's. This behaviour applies when the battery is inserted or not. Also, Hard Reset done with no change. No other LED (Caps) blinks. Also verified both sticks of RAM with no errors (used another laptop). I could not find any reference to this issue. i have already read the HP guide "Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes..." Please note, only LED that blinks is the Power LED. Caps LED does not blink at all. I have also verified the output of the AC Adapter (voltage only). The weird thing is this, every so often when plugging in the laptop, the Power LED will light up (white) and stay lit, then the laptop will boot with no issue. I have been able to recreate this with the battery inserted or not. I am at a loss. Could the Power Jack be intermittent and cause an issue? Mahalo (thank you ) for any assistance!
More repliesDaughter last used laptop on battery power and ran id down completely until computer shut off. She plugged in the power cord and it would not come on when pressing the power button. Laptop was plugged in overnight and this morning same issue - the power light just blinks five times when you press the power button. This is the same behaviour whether plugged into power or not. I've tried holding down the power button. Tried with battery removed and A/C power, but then no light comes on at all. I've tried removing the battery and A/C power, holding the power button down for 30 seconds, then install battery and plug in A/C power, but no difference. I tried a different A/C power adapter and no difference. Any ideas?

Hi...I was hopeing somebody can help me out with a problem I'm trying to resolve.
I noticed my PC's front power on indicator does not stay lit, like it should, the green light goes off alot then comes back on..but now it seems to be staying off for good this time...everything besides the light being off is working perfectly as far as I know,my psu fan is spinning and I can power up with no problems..it's just the front power on Led seems to be dying out?.
I will check to ensure that the connectors are attached properly, does this mean there's a problem with my PSU or do I just need to change a battery of some sort?...or replace the led ..how ever you do that?,any help would be great because I don't know anything about how to fix the power on light, thanks.
Not sure if i'm in the right place, but just wanted to see if I could get any help with this problem. I "tried" to turn on my computer the other day and nothing happened, the power light just blinked an amber color with no noise or anything. I know that if it buzzes or makes a sound it can be determined what the problem is, but it does nothing. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Thanks
When I sign out of my user profile on my 2 Acer laptops and then click shut down, the computer goes black indicating that it is shutting down. However, the power light blinks until it shuts down completely. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or what but when hibernation is disabled, it tells you its shutting down and the power light doesn't blink (instead it shuts down normally). This is not a UEFI BIOS, it is a Legacy BIOS therefore it doesn't have the option to enable or to disable fast startup. This occurs on my Acer Aspire 5250 and Acer Aspire 5749 laptops. My Acer desktop doesn't do this, but it has a UEFI BIOS.
Can anyone understand what I am saying?
Also, if someone understands can they please help me with this issue?
It could also be the chipset driver. Although, I don't know what version chipset I have.

More repliesGuys,
My Toshiba Laptop running Windows 8.1 runs great! However, about every four to five months the Power button blinks when lifting the cover. When I press the Power Button, it boots fine. Why does the Power button blink?
For the record, I always put my computer in sleep mode by closing the lid. Never shutting down. The battery is hardly ever used and says fully charged (1oo%) It is on AC Power all the time.
Jack
I think it blinks to show it's in sleep mode and pressing the power button wakes it up. You can test this by putting the laptop to sleep manually.
There's a setting in Control Panel > Power Options where you can change what closing the lid does, try setting it to Shutdown then check the power light goes out completely. You can change it back to Sleep afterwards.
The power supply is obviously doing it's thing, but the moniter, when hooked up, doesn't work, and the soft power LED flashes instead of staying solid. The computer is on, but not responding.
Hello,
Are you sure the PSU is sufficient for the computer? Are you sure that you have turned off the onboard video? Have you made sure the video card is fully in place and not lifted at all?
Cheers,
Mak
I absolutely hate the way the light bar around the power supply blinks brightly when the computer is in idle or hibernate mode. It makes it impossible to sleep with the computer in the bedroom. Isn't there some way to adjust the setting so that this doesn't happen?
Put it on a power strip along with all your wall warts. Then when you set to hibernate it will complete at which time you can switch off the power strip. It saves a lot of power.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
2 more repliesHey all,
Weird one here. Got myself a new graphics card the other day, upgrading from a Radeon x1650 pro, which died after 4 odd years of good service, to the Radeon HD5450, and everything seems to have gone successful except for since installing it, when I press the power button to boot, the PC's power light will blink 7 times and then boot up normally on the 8th blink.
I was kinda in 2 minds about whether or not to troubleshoot this if I'm honest, but figured I might as well in case it could be causing some kinda damage. I can't see any error's appearing, nothing in event logs, as far as I can tell the PSU should be more than capable, everything seems to be performing as expected, it's just these 8 blinks before the system starts to boot.
I've reseated the memory and Graphics and tried booting with a few non-essential components disconnected, which fixed it for the first boot, but the issue reappeared for every boot after that.
As well as my listed components I've also got a PCI NIC (D-link DGE-528T), wireless KBoard + Mouse, USB Wireless Adapter, a SATA DVD RW and a couple of fans (1x80mm, 1x92mm and 1xLED120mm)
...any ideas?
Cheers,
Sean
I doubt anyone here remembers, but I made a topic here last month regarding a laptop I was attempting to fix. Basically, someone spilt soda over it and tried to repair it, but after that failed he gave it to me and told me that if I could fix it, I could keep it.
At that point, the problem was when I turned it on, the screen would stay black, but I could hear noises and the power light slowly flashed. I noticed that there was no memory in it though, and since the issues seemed to reflect that, I decided to buy some ram and hope that it was going to be my only problem.
Well, unfortunatly, it wasn't. Now the problem has changed that the power light flashes faster than before, but the screen still remains blank.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?
EDIT: On a second test, it appers that the flashing is the same speed as before. Also, when I attempt to turn it on, the ligh will stay on for a second and I can almost hear the laptop starting up, but that stops when the light begins to blink.
I have an HP Pavilion 15-p043cl with the same problem. The power/charge light blinks white three times when you press it. The laptop never actually powers up. I've tried with and without the battery and numerous other power adapters. It even blinks while the battery is removed, which is strange because the I've opened up the case and measured 19.5 volts on the motherboard, which is why the light even flashes in the first place.
The customer said the computer felt really warm, and now it's not working and this is happening. My only guess is that one of those hundreds of small components on the motherboard died/shorted out. So this seems to be a common issue with some HP models.
My G72 will not start. I have tried all the tricks for unplugging power cable, battery, holding the button down, etc. I have pulled RAM, verified power to the system board using a voltmeter.... No matter what I try, when I put the battery in and hook it to power, then press the power button, the AC power LED blinks three times. It does this if the power is not hooked up; it does not do it if the battery's removed (with AC power). I have tried two separate AC adapters, known working ones. I have voltage at the system board, so I don't think it's the power connector. The system responds only with the 3 blinks when I hit the power switch. What do the three blinks mean? I can find nothing online specific, and it's out of warranty.
If the LEDs are blinking with you turn on the notebook, refer the following weblink:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443366

Hi
What notebook do you use?!!!
Seems the notebook provides a blinking code. This means that a hardware error was detected.
Usually the short blinking means 0 and long means 1.
The authorised service technician should be able to read such code and to locate the hardware malfunction.
Mostly it?s something wrong on the motherboard!
So I don?t think that you will be able to fix it. That?s not possible if you have no experience and the right tools and parts.
So in my opinion you should contact the ASP in your country for an help!
Good luck
Hi everyone,I found something interesting about my USB Flash Drive and USB HDD:I have a USB Flash Drive (128MB) and a USB HDD (80GB), and to unplug them from my PC, I choose "Safe Remove" by right click the hardware icon on the Taskbar.I found that the power light indicator of the USB Flash Drive was immediately off after it was said to be safe to remove; but that of the USB HDD was still on even if I waited for a few minutes afterwards.Any ideas?
Go by the indicator within Windows to assure proper shutdown. It may be receiving power, but not actively able to access files. That's the way my Western Digital does.
3 more repliesJust since yesterday my six week old Inspiron 7559 sometimes fails to start and when it does this, the Power and Battery Status Light blinks, two times amber then seven times white, repeats forever. What does this 2/7 blink mean? Is it a clue to what is wrong? The laptop does start sometimes if I hold it at an angle. Makes me think something is not connected properly inside. Any ideas?
Hi,
System LEDs are not Diagnostic Indicators. I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.
Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check for issue resolution.
Also, I would suggest you reseat a few components, like memory, hard drive and optical drive and see if that makes a difference. In the link below punch in the system service tag or express service code and you can access the user manual for removing and reseating components. http://dell.to/18r60nI Please let me know if this helps.

More repliesWhen you press the power button, the power light goes on steady, the HDD indicator blinks once, then the system shuts off. Never get anything on the screen.
Once in a great while, the system will actually boot into Windows and works fine.
The battery is charged, the charger is good.
I have tried removing RAM, HDD and can't get into BIOS even, unless it is one of those off chances the system stays on.
Could it be something is shorting out? I've tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding the power button to discharge, but no luck.
It sounds like the computer isn't getting past the POST (Power On Self Test) where is looks at all the peripherals to be sure there isn't problem.
You have pulled the hdd and re-seated it, removed the RAM and re-seated it. But if there is more than one RAM module you should remove one of the two modules (assuming that there are only two) to see if you have a bad module.
Who is the manufacturer of the hdd?
Hi, Every once in a while when I turn on my laptop, it powers on but the monitor doesn't seem to boot up. The power light indicator is on and everything else sounds like it's running, but the monitor doesn't turn on and no beeps occur. I tried running diagnostics and nothing wrong was found. Lenovo customer support couldn't help me.
I had the same issue you are experiencing for a while. I recently installed the newest Bios version released by Lenovo and this update seems to have resolved the problem. In my case, the issue used to happen when restarting the computer from hibernation. At this point I am still testing my computer. In addition to Windows Vista I also have Windows 7 installed on another drive partition. When restarting the computer from hibernation with Windows 7 the issue keeps happening. It does not happens all of the time but it does frequently enough. To summarize, the latest Bios version seems to have resolved the black screen issue when restarting my computer from hibernation while using Windows Vista Home Premium. However, the same issue keeps happening with Windows 7. Good Luck, OIBM

1 more repliesGreetings,
I purchased my Toshiba Satelight l775 brand new 7 months ago, this is so crazy. It wont power on, i use the laptop plugged to adapter 4 to 8 hours a day, then the laptop goes unused and unplugged for 16 to 20 hours a day.
This is my 3rd laptop, i know i've put more strain on the previous two (HP and Acer). I've never had a laptop go out on me this quick, even that $300 acer laptop went through more strain and never went out in the 15 months i had it.
My backup laptop is a 4 year old HP, i've had it for 4 years, its been dropped several times, used and abused still going! i just had to upgrade ram and hard drive. But, this Toshiba! she was so beautiful when I saw her!
I've never dropped her, never spilled anything on her, so why is she putting me through this stress at a bad time???
A bad time because even though i'm under warranty, i'm going on vacation in 2 days!!! I need her, i'm not trying to take my old HP that came out in 2008.
I can't afford to send my Toshiba off for 2 weeks, not right now.
Today, my virus software was doing its typical scheduled scan, i didn't have the laptop charging, because i was off of work, so when i'm off the laptop gets used more and charged more. I look at the laptop and its off, i just figured, O....my battery died, let me plug in the adapter and do some reading. Well nothing ever happened. 8 hours later, i've been working on this for over 8 hours, i've searched all over google, many forums, none ... Read more

Unable to power up, orange LED (second from left) blinking 5 times and then.... nothing
I have a Sony VGC-RB42G computer. I recently moved my computer, cleaned off all the dust, and when I plugged everything back in, it won't power up. The light on the power supply blinks green, inside the motherboard also has a green light that blinks as well. It has a ticking sound too, but I am not sure if it is coming from the power supply or the motherboard. Any idea what could be wrong.
FYI, I have already unplugged everything from the power supply, pulled out the ram, checked the battery, and put everything back together and still no change. One thing I thought was strange was after I unplugged everything, I pulled the power into the power supply again and this time the green light came on but did not blink. It stayed solid.

Hi Lenovo4g510i5,
Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with power in your Lenovo G510 laptop.
Perform the power drain, to perform please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system shut down the machine and remove battery and adapter. Now press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. Now connect the battery and turn on the system and check for the issue.
This is to drain the static charge as the LED might be due to the static charge.
Best regards,
Ashwin. S

Issue SymptomsLaptop does not boot in any way (to the BIOS, to the OS, anything).Power button indicator light acts like laptop is powered on constantly (lights up white at all times).Front charging indicator light flashes between white and orange. The issue occurs in all power configurations (plugged in with no battery, plugged in with battery, and battery only). Attempted SolutionsRemoved battery and held power button for 30+ seconds to dissipate any leftover electrical charge.Removed and reseated battery, power cables, CMOS, and hard drive.Removed all dust and debris from laptop. Any suggestions? The unit is no longer under warranty so I am unable to return it to HP.

Green means go. In this case go check inside the case to see if all fans are turning and if the power supply appears on when started. We can go from there.
3 more repliesI'm having strange problem with my yoga 13. One time I was using my laptop when windows suddenly came very slow. I rebooted the device and restored windows with earlier backup point. And now everything is working fine but the power indicator light is blinking all the time when windows is running. I heard this could indicate some kind of hardware problem. What does this bilnking power light mean in this case?
More repliesI have a C855. I thought at first my charger had stopped working as the light on the front of the laptop (next to the power light and wireless light wasn't lit up when it was plugged in. After a few minutes I realised that when I disconnected the power cable from the laptop, my screen went dim, so it was working.
But plugged in, its not got a white light that showed it was charged. I let the battery run down a bit then replugged it in and then it did go orange. And said x amount of time before fully charged (windows 10) it got to 1 minute then changed to 99%, plugged in charging and the battery light is still orange. It didn't alter no matter how long I left it plugged in after.
Is it a laptop fault or possible battery fault?
How it works with AC power supply only? Have you tried to remove the battery ad test it?
2 more repliesI have a brand new E220s, and I am not able to understand how to figure out if the battery is fully charged when the system is off (i.e. the laptop is not started but it is connected to power to be recharged). The user guide says that the light right next to the power inlet on the left side of the laptop will be on when the laptop is connected to power, and it will be green when the battery is charged. HOWEVER, on my laptop this light is green as soon as I plug the laptop into power. So, since it is always green, how am I supposed to figure out when the battery is fully charged? Or, is it possible that this light is always green when it is on (i.e. when the laptop is connected to power) which would be really stupid as my 2-year old vaio even show that the battery is fully charged by turning off the battery indicator light completely?G
I'm not sure what it's like for the E220s, but on the W520, the light turns off when the laptop finishes charging. The light should also blink at certain intervals when charging to indicate the amount of charge.
4 more repliesI have an Acer Aspire V3 551 8469. It is out of warranty. The indicator power light blinks 4 to 5 times and nothing happens after. I got adventurous and opened it up. I replaces the cord that receives the power coupling from the ac. Still not working. I was told it could be the motherboard but there is no guarantee that is the issue. Any one else out there have a similar problem? If it is the mother board I will just have to get one and put it in. Thanks, Joe W
A lot of times this situation is because the laptop isn't getting enough power to boot. It can also be a problem with the power jack connection or the power button board. I'd try another power supply first. Local computer shops usually have a universal power supply you could ask them to try if you can't beg or borrow one.
3 more replieshi people this my fist time on here so i hope some 1 can help .....i got a emachines 3210 pc and it was working fine .went to turn it on yesterday and got no power but i got a green light on motherboard i really need to get this sorted as i borrowed the pc off a m8 and i dont really want to folk out for new bits . it would be great if some 1 has anyidea wat it could be.other wise its off to bank get some money and get a new motherboard lol.... oh i got a 2.70ghz celeron processor if that helps in any way cheers
The eMachines power supply (and possibly the motherboard) is bad. Just because you have a green light, doesn't mean that the power supply or motherboard is good. It takes many separate voltages to operate a computer. The geen LED means only that you have +5volts to the motherboard
Hello All -I'm posting to the forum as I'm at a complete loss with support. I recently purchased a ThinkPad T450s, which worked well for about a week, but has since failed to boot properly after normal use. The motherboard / system board has been replaced three times by Lenovo support (twice with the depot and once on-site). After receiving the system yesterday from the depot (again after normal use and trying to resume from sleep mode), the ThinkPad won't boot. The power light blinks on and the backlit keyboard lights up for a few seconds, only to have the system shut itself down with a light pop. This cycle repeats with the system attempting to power up anywhere from two attempts to eleven (no BIOS flashes or any other signs of life). I've tried all options noted in the forum and suggestions from support (remove battery, hard reset, etc.), but haven't had any luckAgain, I'm at a loss, and simply want my system to work or be replaced. If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.??Thank you!
Hi ArcadeFire,
Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
Sorry to hear for having same issues multiple times, but again it seems to be a same hardware issue. If you have an onsite warranty better call Lenovo support centre and log the call for the hardware. I guess it?s again problem with motherboard.

I guess Lenovo designed the X100e to a price point and those items didn't make the cut. To be fair, there are OSD icons for WiFi and power. I don't really miss those, but a hard disk activity indicator would have been good. There are a number of software based hard disk LED options that can be downloaded.
2 more repliesHello, I'm trying to figure out if the power supply on my hp is bad or not. The green light on back of the tower is flashing and the computer won't turn on. I've tried all of the preliminary things and nothing works -- the green light keeps blinking until I disconnect the large plug to the motherboard, then the light stays on and doesn't blink. Once I have the power cord disconnected and the main plug to the motherboard disconnected as well, I then have tried replugging the power cord and then replugging the main plug to the motherboard (kind of trying to jump start it), the fan tries to come one (but only for a second, then goes back off, so it won't boot).Does anyone know if this means that the power supply is bad or if something else might be wrong? I'm wondering if the power supply would be bad when the computer is clearly trying to start, but not quite making it.

If the PSU blinks it needs to be reset.unplug the electrical cable from the wall and the PSU.move the red voltage selector to the opposite position it is in and then slide it back. If you live in the USA 120Vac-->220Vac-->120Vac see the image below. After you have done this you can plug the power cable back into the PSU. Connect the power cable to the wall power. If the PSU is still serviceable it will no longer be blinking. Best regards, erico Edited to fix the broken image link.
10 more repliesHi folks, having a problem here. I have the motherboard in the title and just yesterday after shutting down and replacing a fan, my computer will no longer turn on through the case power button. I thought it might be the case wiring that is shot, but I tried booting the system by doing the "screwdriver to the power pins" trick. I dont even get a reaction at all. I have taken all the parts off and put them back together, but still the same. So... did my motherboard randomly fry from just replacing a fan.. (maybe dust?) I'm not sure. I just need some assurance on if it is the motherboard so I can get a new one. I dont have any other computers at the moment to check the parts. Thanks guys, and please try to be swift.
I always try another power supply first for this condition. The green led mean only that 5 volts is present. There are other voltages needed from the power supplies
Hi
My PC wouldn't turn on on Monday night - just a green flashing light on the front. After a bid of fiddling with the kettle lead etc and moving the pc, it worked. After switching off as usual the same thing happened the next night. I replaced the kettle lead but now it just sits with the green light flashing. I've checked the forums but can't find someone with the same problem in that the pc DOES work every now and again. PC about 15 months old. Has anyone any suggestions (hoping its not the hard drive).
Solved - had a chappie at work have a look and the fan doesn't move. By the way the green light now doesn't come on at all. It's the psu and it's being fixed later. Thanks for looking and hopefully this may help someone else!
I am working on a frends desktop that recently might have been hit by lightning. After a big storm their desktop would no longer power on. Now, I am no stranger to computers. I unplugged the motherboard main connector and I get a solid green light when I plug the psu in. Plug the main connector back in and plug the psu in I get blinking light again. So either its the PSU or mainboard. Im thinking psu since usually that is what goes first, but at the same time I am leaning towards mainboard. what do you all think? On another note, Are these boards proprietary? I have a few standard ATX PSUs I could test my theory with but not if I have to rewire them.

More repliesHi guys, this is my very first forum post ever in my life and I hope I get super help.So there I was working on my computer one day. I was downloading a youtube video with a program that has scheduled shutdown computer option upon download completion. I turned that on and turned off my monitor. After about 1-2 mins I noticed the power and HDD indicator lights in front of the CPU casing is turned off so I thought for some reason my pc probably turned off. I tried turning it on by pressing the power button and at the same time turned my monitor on. It turned on with a light-brown colored background so I quickly hit restart but then it won't turn on. I plugged by USB in hoping it would try to boot from the USB (my bios settings primary boot is set to removable devices). Then I pressed the power button again but THIS TIME I noticed that a very bad wire-burning type smell is coming out so I instantly turned EVERYTHING off. Later I opened my CPU casing and tried smelling the devices and found that probably the smell is coming from my second (and newer) hard disk that is about 10 months old. So, finding no hope and ideas I threw myself to computerhope.com's forum from my school laptop...please anyone help me out ASAP!Note that when I still try to turn my the pc on the power supply fan, the ethernet lights and even the DVD-rom drive works; so I am totally confused! My pc is Intel Core2duo, 2GB ram/memory, 256 internal video memory, primary hard-disk=160gb and secondary... Minimal boot is where I'd start. If motherboard has integrated video use that, disconnect all drives, and just have the motherboard set up with 1 ram stick, and try to boot. If you get it to boot then shut it down and add 1 component and boot up again if no boot then you found the cause if it boots then move to next component to add and repeat. If no boot on minimal boot, then swap single Ram stick with another if you had more than 1 stick. If still no minimal boot swap power supply. If still no minimal boot its something local to motherboard. Unistall CPU and check for damage and reinstall it, apply thermal compound and heatsink and try another boot. If still no boot, I'd buy or use a different motherboard unless you have a POST card to work with and want to troubleshoot deeper.Cooked component smell is not a good thing, if you can localize the smell and find burned traces or parts that would be a help in determining if this can be saved or if you need to start a new build. I have only seen one hard drive smoke before and that was my friend way back when SATA drives first came out and it had a P connection as well as SATA power. He hooked up both and cooked it. On a small warning in the box it warns not to plug power to both. I'd doubt if your drive is one of these drives given that you mentioned that it is 10 months old.
1 more repliesI just received my replacment AC adaptor. I put my battery back in and plugged the laptop in, but when i push the power button the battery indicator light flashes red four times. There are no lights on. Does this mean my battery is fried. Originally i thought the jack needed replaced, but the guy told me it was just my cord which Best Buy confirmed. So after getting the new cord i have this new problem. Usally there is a battery indicator light on when the battery is in and it is plugged in. I tryed taking out the battery, unplugging it and holding the power button down, but that didnt work. I also tryed it without the battery in. Is my battery just bad? Thanks for any help.
Thank you,

Try plugging the laptop in and then push the power button. I have had the same thing happen to me when the laptop would only work when I had it plugged in. I had to replace the battery.

I purchased all of my parts from newegg, and i finally found the proper time to put everything together. After getting a cpu fan that was too big, i purchased a AeroCool cpu fan. I had to remove the P4 retention module, and I now have the fan installed. I installed everything else (cd-rom, hdd, disk drive), and I turn the power on, to find that nothing is happening. I have taken the mobo out of the case to make sure it isnt grounded, and none of the fans power up. The only indication of power I get is the green stand-by light located between the second and third pci slots, and the keyboard lights flash on, then off. Whenever I turn the power switch on, the same thing happens with the keyboard and the rest of the mobo.
I have a buddy who is also putting together his own build, and he said that it was strange to hear that not even the psu fan is starting up. The psu has two power receptables, that I can best describe as female and male. Dont know if this makes any difference. I dont know what to do, and I was wondering if this sounds even remotely familiar to anyone. Am I missing something with some of the jumper settings, or does it sound like a huge problem?
Thanks again in advance for any help, and I'm glad I found my way to this ... Read more

When I shutdown the vista PC the monitor power light stays green and a box saying, "self test feature check" floats all around the monitor. My XP machine after shutdown the power light turns amber with nothing being displayed.
Does anyone have any ideas? The monitor should hibernate when the PC is shutdown.
My sister-in-law has an eMachine that she turned off and unplugged before leaving for vacation. A week later she returned and plugged it back in only to find it won't turn on. I don't know much about this pc other than it's a tower and about 3 or so years old. I figured it was probably the PSU (power supply) but wanted to verify as many things as possible. Basically, there is a green light on the back of the pc (on the PSU) that will flashes on and off when you try to turn on the computer. The PSU fan doesn't spin and nothing else makes any attempt to turn...just dead.
I pulled all the power connectors and jumpered the power switch pins (15-16), this gave me a solid green light on the PSU and the fan spun normally. I tested with a voltmeter and got the proper voltage on all the pins. I am thinking that this probably rules out the PSU but not 100% as something could be 'pulling it down'???
Any ideas on what else to look at? I hate to buy a PSU when it appears this one is ok. That pretty much leaves the MoBo and/or CPU. I've pulled all the cards and memory trying to get it to do anything and nothing affects it. I suspect there is something wrong with the MoBo but don't know how to verify that.
Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!
What you need is a PSU Tester which you can get on eBay that will tell you if the power supply is bad.
Hi,
I am new to this excellent forum and wondered if anyone out there could possibly help......
I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop PC. Several weeks ago I had a slow flashing amber power light, indicating a PSU or switch fault. Firstly I replaced the switch - made no difference. Then I replaced the PSU - The slow flsahing amber light has now changed to a blinking (very fast) GREEN light on the power button.
All of my research so far has suggested that this suggests the PC is in standby mode! But the PC isn't even switched on - no fans running etc. In desperation I have even plugged a USB mouse in to see if I can "wake" it up! I have a amber AUX_PWR light on the Motherboard which is on.
Nothing happens when I press the power button - no matter for how long I press it in!
Has anyone got any ideas?
Many Thanks in advance

I just recently Inhearted a computer from school, after my IT teacher couldn't get it to run. Both my IT teacher and I thought for sure it was the power supply or the power switch. The Problem is that the computer dosn't do anything at all when you press the power button. My teacher told me that when he first started having the problem he would press the power button, and maybe Once out of every fifty times it might boot up. then the problem got worse, and only started like every 100th time, now it dosn't work at all. The system is a Used MDG with a 1.5GHZ cpu, and mostly all stock parts. The system came with a stock 300 watt PSU. When I first took it apart, I pulled out the power supply completely, and tried to put in another one, that I had laying around, however it had the wrong connector, so I just put the old one back in. when I put the PSU back in, it seemed to have power, as I could hear the electricty following thorugh it, and a green Led light would light up on the mother board, however if I pushed the power button, it would still do nothing, the CPU fan wouldn't even turn. The only time I actually notice the CPU Fan do a quick turn, is if I disconect the power from the PSU for a long period of time, then reconnect it. So I went to the local computer store tonight with the switch, and the man tested for me, and it did end of being a faulty switch, so I purchased I brand new. I then put it into the computer, and still nothing, and believ... Read more

My x240 won't boot at all. The backlight for the keyboard and all the other indication lights (power, caps lock, etc) blink about every second. I've tried: * removing the battery and working from mains power* inserting a pin into the emergency-reset* pressing power button for 30 seconds* frequent pressing of the power button, with battery, without, on mains power, and no power at all. None fix the problem. I suspect that either the SSD, or a memory module, is either damaged or just been shifted in its slot (years back I had an old Sony that wouldn't boot. Re-seating the HDD solved it in that case). Any help appreciated.

I replaced the battery with a new Duracell battery yesterday. I need to charge at least 4 hours first then discharge it. When charging the light is usually amber, but after about 1 hour into the charge it begins blinking and the color changes to white. This is the second battery. It did almost the same thing with the other one, but the charging indicator also read incorrectly. What can I do to correct this? Thanks
More repliesBattery charging led indicator blinks white in close even laptop shutdown of off condition.

More repliesHi I've had the Dell XPS 8700 for over a year now and it's an excellent Desktop.
I've recently moved my tower to a new location and notice there is a solid orange light on all the time inside the PC, I believe it's on the motherboard... should I be worried this is on all the time? It's just I've never noticed it before.
Also on the back of the PC there is a solid green light, I'm guessing this is to just tell me the PC has Power.
I tried a google search but everyone with the orange light seems to have PC issues, my pc is working fine as far as I can tell.
LED on the motherboard will be on as long as the PC is plugged into a working outlet. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
If you unplug the PC from the wall and press/hold the power button for ~15 sec, that LED will go off. Again, perfectly normal...
Green LED says there's power to the PSU.
When I push CAPS LOCK, I don't see the CAPS LOCK indicator on the screen. Also, of the Fn hotkeys, only the mute, volume up/dn, and brightness up/dn work - the others don't.Refreshed hotkeys driver. When I go to "On Screen Display" tab in screen Advaned Settings, I see: Enable on-screen display checkbox; Appearance box, with color selections and fadeout time. I don't see below it checkboxes for Caps Lock and Num Lock.Win 8.1.

i had tried to turn on my dell optiplex 380 to power on but failed.when im on my pc that had sound like shock "ted"inside the desktop.how to fix this?are my power supply was dead?
More repliesI have some strange problems with all the "below-the-LCD-display status indicator lights (Power, Battery, Caps Shift, etc.) being dark EXCEPT the left-hand wireless indicator which works fine. All the indicators failed at the same time, not one-by-one. It seems most peculiar that only the wireless adapter indicator works normally. Otherwise, it operates normally - start button to IBM BIOS screen to XP, etc. This happens regardless of whether on battery or AC supply. This is a 15" 2379-R9U that has been my chief workhorse for years. I have -1. Reseated the motherboard to LCD panel and inverter cable on all ends.2. Replaced the inverter thinking there was a logic problem there (the power to the LCD fluorescent back-light was fine on the original), and the same behavior occurred.3. Tried reflashing the latest BIOS 3.23 with the download .exe file but it refused as it was the same version not an upgrade. Could this be a defective cable to the entire LCD panel, signs of a dying motherboard, defective RAM, etc.? Are there any diagnostics to test this?

When I had the same problem, some years ago, on my T23 the mainboard was replaced, thankfully at the time it was still in warranty.
The LEDs sit on the inverter. As you've already replaced it I guess it only leaves the option of replacing the cable to rule it out before you can definitely say it's the mainboard, unless of course other members have other ideas.
