Lenovo G50-30 Bios update crashed installed win 7

Question: Lenovo G50-30 Bios update crashed installed win 7

Just purchased a G50-30 with win 7 x64. Decided to update the BIOS A7CN40WWW_64 from Lenovo website. The notebook version was A7CN23WW. Upon reboot, after successful BIOS update, Win 7 booted with errors of Repair option or Normal boot up. Even re-installation of Win 7 will yield BSOD - ACPI non compliant. Have changed BIOS settings defaults from UEFI to Legacy, it still does not work. This BIOS version is not stable. Please help / advise ? Can i request for the earlier version of BIOS ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo G50-30 Bios update crashed installed win 7

I have managed to resolve the Win7 installation issues by the following settings in the BIOS setup (F2) : a) Boot Mode/Priority - set to Legacy over UEFIb) USB Mode - set to 2.0 and not 3.0 Case resolved.

As mentioned in the subject, Lenovo update utility suggested a BIOS update.  The update seemed to go fine but when finished the computer would not boot.  It cannot find media.  There are some blue blurbs and retries but ultimately the computer no longer has a bios.

Hey everyone! So as the title states I am trying to trouble shoot a company laptop which had its hard drive crash last week. Lenovo sent me a replacement hard drive through my service ticket but after installation it just constantly goes to the boot order menu even after selecting the correct hard drive. Shouldn't this come with Windows 10 already installed? Straight from the factory it came with the OS. I tried booting from a windows 7 disc in case the operating system wasn't on the new hard drive but I get the same issue. It keeps going into a loop for the boot order. When I select something it just takes me back to the menu. Any help here is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi all... During the Bios upgrade (52ch04ww.exe) crashed windowsxp, rebooted, and never boots again. No bios, no screen (video)..  How i can restore my bios or reset to the factory? None see on monitor - black screen and no boot. Maybe know anybody some bootable automated bios/flash recovery software? Thanks..

Answer:Lenovo n500 - crashed winxp during bios flash upgrade

Hem, forget your Notebook. On my old HP Notebook i did an bios flash from bios which was not for my notebook , the Laptop goes on, but the screen is black and it does nothing. Your problem is, during the update or flash, and crash there are no bios on the ROM anymore, or maybe not the whole BIOS. So, there are some solutions:  1) Forget the laptop, because, if you got warranty, contact Lenovo, but they can say, that you should pay for the new motherboard with the BIOS on it. By HP it costs 230? - 300? (for a bit more i bayed my Lenovo Notebook), or they will do it IF the mistake was done by Lenovo (by HP somebody put the BIOS file for my laptop, under the Category for my laptop, but it was BIOS from an other Laptop, mistake done by HP, they pay!). But if its your mistake, sorry, through the laptop out of the window.  2) Other way: There are no other ways. In the old PC's you could change the ROM-Chip.  you could buy it on ebay, or some little companies. BUT, the ROM chip from lenovo notebooks, are soldered in the motherboard like by HP, so you cant change them.  3) Trying to boot from CD/DVD/USB-Floppy/USB-Flash: This wont help! Because the BIOS (Hardware Layer ) is no more, so the Hardware doesn't know what to do.For example if the BIOS ok, the system becomes command what to do, to do a POST test or something like that, then you can chose by pressing keys what the sys... While running the BIOS updating program from the Dell support site on my Inspiron mini duo 1090, it crashed and corrupted my BIOS. Now when I try to power on, it beeps once every two seconds or so and won't boot up. I've tried removing the batteries to reset the BIOS but it does nothing. The only other thing I've seen out there is to replace the motherboard, but I'd rather about that. It's there anything else I can try? I am way of it warranty so this is a diy job. Thanks for any help and let me know of you need more info from me.

Answer:BIOS update crashed, how can I recover?

The only way other than replacing the mainboard is to take the system to a shop that can remove the BIOS chip, flash it externally and re-solder it.

My laptop G450 can't reboot and the screen is black with all lights and sounds off after I updated the BIOS. I downloaded the right BIOS software from Lenovo.com and installed it. But the driver software didn't work well. It can't complete the installation even after 2 hours and seemimgly caused my laptop dead. The computer can't restart or be closed by holding the power button over 10 seconds or longer. So I have to disconnect the power adapter and disconnected the system power. From then on, the laptop can't start without any lights on and the screen stands black even I reconnect the power adapter. I got the adapter and system off and pushed the power button five times with holding it over 5 seconds. But G450 can't start yet.  So what should I do now? Do I need to change the motherboard or the Bios can be updated again? Do I need to pay for this Bios error? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

does the Toshiba logo appear when the notebook beeps?

When you can see the logo you can try to start a new BIOS update!
At http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com under BIOS Download you can download a current BIOS!
Also I found this link with a BIOS update description:

Answer:Equium A60 crashed during Bios update

I presume the BIOS chip is damaged. In this case you cannot do anything to make it work again. Just authorized service can help.

The problem is that repair can be pretty expensive. Check it out. If yes sell the notebook on eBay and ..... you know what I mean. :(

Hi there, I'm new to the boards so sorry if this has already been asked. I searched the boards but there were a lot of results and none exactly the same as mine. Due to the nature of my problem, I thought I'd make a post. Basically I've got an ASUS M2N-E motherboard and something went wrong when I tried to update the BIOS in Windows (stupid way to do it as I've realised ).

I was updating my BIOS in Windows using the ASUS Update utility that was on the disc supplied with the motherboard. I closed all programs down, and ran update from internet. I clicked next to begin the flash but the update utility closed. A while later, a program called winflash.exe crashed, which I'm assuming is related to the update utility.

After that, I couldn't open the update utility again. Error boxes with random symbols were appearing, so I uninstalled it and downloaded the newer one off the ASUS website. Now it won't even let me install that.

Some "ASUS BIOSINFO.DLL" box pops up but again the message is just a bunch of random symbols. I click OK and then it says "No ASUS motherboard, installation will now be aborted."

I've read that restarting your computer during a failed flash will result in a busted motherboard, which I obviously don't want and I don't think a System Restore is going to cut it. So what can I do now?

Is there any way for me to find out if it is safe to restart my computer or will I have to find a differe... Read more

If you are using Windows 8.1 or 10, you can create go to the Microsoft link below to create Windows Installation media on a DVD or USB Flash Drive, and then use it to boot your computer, select Repair vs Install, and then from the Advanced Repair Options choose to restore your system to a previous System Restore point.   You can also create a System Repair disk from another computer and boot up off of it and run System Restored too, and that would be the best option if you are running Windows 7, but it also works in 8.1 and 10 too.   It can be created on any Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 computer, with the only catch being that it must be a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the OS similar to your Z50, but not necessarily the the same version of Windows.    The Option to create a System Restore Disk can be found under the Backup and Restore/Recovery Control Panel (Control Panel -> System and Security -> Backup and Restore), and requires only a blank CD-R to create. Create installation media for Windowshttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15088/windows-create-installation-media Windows regularly creates System Restore points, so you should be able to restore back to one prior to the driver update using one of the methods above and get your system back up and running. How to Create and Use a Recovery Drive or System Repair Disc in Windows 8 or 10https://www.howtogeek.com/131907/how-to-create-and-use-a-recovery-drive-or-syste... I have been looking for a way to contact Lenovo via email about my computer issues. I had a not too old (Apr 2014) Lenovo Desktop Aio B550. When I bought it, it had Windows 8, and had an update to 8.1 right away. Then there was an update to Windows 10, I did that too. there was no major issues. I barely used the computer, mainly for email, browsing, etc, no gamming. In 2016 there was another update for Windows 10, but this one would get stuck at 32%, some posts here at the time said to leave it overnight, then saw posts that said to unplug all devices, do this and do that, I did and it still froze at 32% every time. after 6 months of this I was getting tired, I did not want this update at all, and found out this is not an update it is a whole new operating system. I could not shut off my computer without it forcing me to do an update, I wondered if this was a small update or the big update. I contacted Microsoft for help in March 2017. I had many different answers and explanations from them. First MS remote access my computer and downloaded the Media Creation Tool. I told them that this computer is not that old and has no programs downloaded, just what came with the computer new. MS did the update and it had to do a reboot so MS disconnected and the reboot went on and then it came back with an error: OxC1900101-Ox30018 the installation failed in the first_BOOT phase w/ an error during syprep operation. I contacted MS again via chat and remote access. A customer with a C660-117 got a message from Tempro saying update BIOS. He did what he was told but the update crashed at Block 8 and would go no further.

Laptop will not boot now. Is there a BIOS recovery tool or does it need to be returned to Toshiba to be fixed. Customer not happy as it was Tempro that told him to update BIOS.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C660-117 crashed on BIOS update

Hi

Usually the BIOS update procedure is safety.
But some before executing an BIOS update, all applications and software like antivirus software, firewalls which run in the background should be closed.

However, as far as I know the BIOS flash ROM needs to be flashed/repaired by using an crisis disk?

Check also this thread:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=54395

But if it would not be helpful, you will need to contact an Toshiba ASP in your country to get it fixed.

The worst case happened and the laptop crached during a bios-update. I know that there is the possibility to repait the bios with a crisis recovery tool. Therefor you have to press 2 keys (in the most cases FN+B or Win+B) during the pluging of powercord and the following boot-up. I tried many manuals but nothing happend. Can anyone tell me which keys I have to press for the Satellite 210-15Y and maybe where I can get a cd-image of the crisis tool, because the laptop doesn't have a floppydrive?

Answer:Satellite A210-15Y crashed during bios-update

Hi

As far as I know the BIOS crisis procedure can be mad by an ASP technician.
You cannot download an traditional BIOS version which would allows you to update the BIOS from USB FDD diskette.
You can download only win-based BIOS which can be executed while windows OS is running.

In my opinion you should get in contact with an local ASP!

Hi everybody,

I tried (shouldn't have! I know!) updating bios on my Toshiba Satellite P300-221-05R006FR (after having recently installed Win7) and it crashed.
I used the Toshiba software and things went wrong when re-writing bios : blue screen and impossible to shut it down.
So I unplugged the laptop and removed the battery.

After that, I put the battery back in and the plugged again power adaptor... and tried to boot, no reaction at all!!!
_The computer refuses to turn on_ when I press the power button. It doesn't even tell me the battery is in charge (the little red or white battery sign disappeared).

It seems that the mother board is dead... Am I wrong?

I've been desperatly looking around to find a mother board for my model but can't find anything.
Would you people have any idea about a place where I could find a spare like that?

Thanks,
Tom

I have a big problem due to Toshiba official Bios update for A350 models.

After download & unpacking the Bios update WinPhlash just started the Bios upgrade without PROMPT! This is NOT acceptable! After 10 seconds or so the notebook just froze up. Stayed this way way for 3 minutes or longer. The only way to turn it off was by removing power cord & battery. Booting up again gave me nothing but black screen.

I have tried various recovery options, mostly Phoenix Crisis Disk Build. But unfortunately no luck.

Calling Toshiba customer service (The Netherlands) is really not helpfull at all. Telling me a bios update is not a smart thing to do. My answer-> Then why do you put it on your website and a BIOS update is sometimes neccesary for upgrading the machine. After that the guy wanted me to send the laptop to a notoriously bad service center (regarding notebooks) DYNAFIX. Of course I will not do this if I don't want my notebook to be even more damaged.

Right now I probably must replace the BIOS chip. It will cost me my own dime as my notebook doesn't have warranty anymore.

I'm very upset at Toshiba for putting such a dangerous bios update method on their website. I'm a advanced computer user and rarely have issues I cannot fix by myself. BIOS updates should be done in DOS environment, not in Windows with WinPhlash.

If Toshiba or any one else believes it was my own mistake, by all means try it yourself. Also google the problem, you'll see tons of Toshi... Read more

Hello, I am new to this forum. I have a crashed Laptop that has been this weay for over a year, because It is Out of warranty and I have been unable to correct the problem. I have an Aspire E 15 ES1-511-P1T9. I am not sure what the Version of the BIOS was at the time I ran the update, as It had not been updated before. I am currently running Win 8.0/8.1 (Factory OS with free upgrade). It has been upgraded from 4GB - 8GB RAM. It had been running fine after hardware upgrade for a while, until the BIOS update ran. I ran a BIOS update that was recommended from Acer (In an email) and when the laptop rebooted, it would not POST. There is now a Password on my CMOS that was not there before. Usually I would REMOVE the CMOS battery and then Clear the BIOS, but the Battery is Solidered to the Motherboard, and I see no jumper. The only solutions I have found have been for a PC motherboard, not for a laptop. How do I RESET the BIOS to FACTORY settings (version) so that I can boot up the laptop. It is in pieces right now so I can actively SEE anything that needs to be seen. I have not been able to find any documantation to support such a procedure, I am hoping someone has an Idea. Like I said, It is already apart, and if I cannot reserrect it, it is pretty much toast if it won't boot. I am not familliar with the Aspire series so I do not know if there are other models that have this same issue. Thank you.

I got this PC about 6 months ago as a refurb from Woot.com. It ran great and has only been used for emails/fantasy football for me and youtube/roblox for my son. I didnt change anything internal and its completely stock. Ive really enjoyed the HP updater thing because I remember on my old PC how much of a pain it was to search graphics card updates and stuff. Last Wednesday it gave me an exclamation point that there was a new update. It said it was for the bios and gave no additional instructions. It ended up freezing on this screen https://imgur.com/gallery/5eZuS and eventually crashed. Since then nothing works. The power button does nothing. I have a light on the back of the power supply that it is receiving power but nothing happens when I hit the button. I was looking at this link which makes it appear that crashing during a bios update can happen but all the solutions involve getting it to boot to the bios and I cannot do that. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01368145 Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix? I am really hoping I do not have to replace the motherboard. Sorry so long and thank you for reading.

Hello Everybody,

This is my first post on the forum, although I have been reading here quite a lot.

My problem seems to be classical: had several crash problems with my Satellite P205D-4378.
Visited the Toshiba webiste, they have an update for the bios that repairs the problems I have. I do the update, CRAAAASH!, Computer dead.

Seriously Dead.

Turn on the other computer, research, find a couple websites about "Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disc".

I read religiously, run to the store, buy a usb FDD, some Floppys, download the Bios file, rename it, make the disc...

Trembling with anguish, I push FN+B, turn the machine on, and it works!

Well... at least the Zombie mode works: pink leds, high speed fans, runs the USB FDD, starts the USB FDD, reads it for a good two minutes! Then nothing.

"It's ok, it's going to be ok" am I thinking. The Boot block is a program that is not more than 4k, the computer has no bios, can't use anything, and it has to digest a 1000k bios.

I wait, nothing happens.

SO what now? I tried the "FDD start" ten times at least. Last try, I waited the whole night! I Went to sleep after the computer read the floppy).

Whatever I do, once the floppy has been read, nothing happens.

I turn it off, I unplug it, I try with battery, without battery, I talk nice, I insult it, I pray, I cry, I swear,... NOTHING WORKS!

I must be doing something wrong, somewhere.

On my disk are the phlash16.exe, the minid... Read more

I had the same problem 3 weeks ago.. i tried to flash my bios using the windows based bios update supplied on Toshiba's site. It crashed half way trough the flash and my satellite was dead.
I brought it to the toshiba repair center and they had to order a new motherboard for it. They also said they never flash a bios within windows and they don't understand why Toshiba would make users flash their bios within Windows, they said they repaired many dead toshiba's because of that windows based flash.

Hello Mates,

My Asus G75VW was offline for 2 weeks and when it came back on there were 8 Windows updates to be done. Picked some of them>restart. There was this typical ~configuring~ message that went for 20 min or so. I thought it's frozen so I rebooted it manually. And than... nothing. Black screen. I can't access BIOS, Windows wont start either.

I tried generic reset with holding the power button but it failed.
I tried to boot from repair disk- nothing.

Any ideas?

Hello,
I recently tried to update the BIOS of my Vostro 5480, but the update froze in the end. I waited 1 hour but Windows was still frozen, so I decided to turn off by holding the power button.
Now I can't boot anything else, as it will always goes to the BIOS screen with the message below, it waits 5 seconds and then reboots itself.

Unfortunately, it's not under warranty anymore.
I searched Google for solutions, but none helped me. I got the latest BIOS file (can't find old ones), and tried putting the files inside a flash drive (.exe, .hdr and .rom files) with some random and suggested names, but I couldn't get it right.
Is there anything else that I can try?
Thank you in advance

I have a Qosmio F50-10Z and as prompted by toshiba I downloaded the Bios update and began to install.
My screensaver came on and the whole thing crashed.

Would not turn off (even after holding down power button for 15 secs).
Took battery out and then put it back in. Computer powers on but screen is blank and won't boot up.

Tried to take it apart to flash the bios by taking out rtc/cmos battery (whatever it's called) but can't find the battery and got to the point where I wasn't willing to take it apart any further (has no-one else ever taken one apart?

Couldn't find information or diagram or photo of where the battery was on net...manual for laptop really unhelpful)

Have found comments about crisis disks but I don't know what this means.

So, how to I reset bios?

Please help - you are my only hope.

Answer:Qosmio F50-10Z Bios update crashed - how do I reset cmos?

So, now I've located the rtc/cmos battery (turns out it's rechargeable so explains why not easily located) removed it, soldiered it back on in a more accessible place - still did not reset BIOS.

Or else, that wasn't the problem in the first place.

Any ideas? Perhaps if anyone knows where the CMOS jumper is located that might help?

I failed in updating the BIOS as per Acer's instructions, and now I have a bricked PC.

I'm trying to restore the original BIOS, but not having any luck. The PC boots, I hear two beeps - one short one long, and then it hangs. The power cycles to the devices & the fan, but it doesn't do anything. I tried it with the BIOS jumpers set both at 1-2 and 2-3. No luck.

What are the key strokes I need to press to force BIOS reset? Or am I toast with this MB?

What I would try myself first is to remove the battery lave it for a good hour or so - I have had some IBM jobs that required longer - replace with a new one, reseat the RAM and try again.

I'll keep scratching round in the meantime. Found this if it is of any help but I still think the battery change will narrow it down a bit

I'm a new owner of a Flex 4-1570 Ideapad. I have a critical update awaiting install, however the window popup says it is for the YOGA not the Flex. Thus, I have not installed it. My question is, should I install it? If not, how do I turn the notification off? Thanks!

Hello Mates,

My G75VW was offline for 2 weeks and when it came back on there were couple of Windows updates to be done. Picked some of them>restart. There was this typical ~configuring~please wait~ message that went for 20 min or so. I thought it's frozen so I rebooted it manually...

And than... nothing. Black screen. I can't access BIOS, Windows wont start either. The laptop works for 10s and turns off itself.

I tried generic reset with holding the power button but it failed.
I tried to boot from Windows repair disk- nothing.

Any ideas?

Answer:Laptop Won't boot and Acces BIOS after crashed Windows7 Update

Did you unplug the laptop and remove the battery before holding the start button of 30 seconds? I suspect you have some other problem. A windows update cannot change bios, and the computer should post and give access to bios, even if there is no hard drive installed.

Hi,I just run the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the latest ThinkVantage System Update. As stated by the BIOS Update Utility I closed all my applications and proceeded. I selected  Update ThinkPad BIOS". Then the BIOS Update Utility froze during the process (it displayed that it is now writing the backup file of the old bios). After some time a window from Windows popped up and said that the program hangs and closed the BIOS Update Utility. Now I am not sure if the BIOS on my notebook is in a healthy state or not!So I tried to do the update manually again. I downloaded the ThinkPad BIOS update utility from the Lenovo website [1] (Version 3.24). But when I start the BIOS Update Utility and select ?Update ThinkPad BIOS? it shows me an error message:  Driver Loading failed.

The Utility cannot proceed. My ThinkPad is a X61s (7666-B4G), running Windows 7 SP1, 32bit  Any recommendations what I can try next?Is it safe to reboot the computer, or is it bricked now? Kind regardsThomas [1] http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/default.page

Answer:X61s Bios Update Tool crashed, ThinkPad still running what to do now?

The system did a reboot and now it is finaly dead. When it was still running i tried different methods to do new clean reflash of the bios but could not find any solution which worked. Is there still hope to recover the ThinkPad?

Hello guys, A few weeks back I signed up for the Windows 10 insider program and installed the windows 10 ISO without any problems. Of course there were the usual bugs that you get when working with a non-final build of a new OS, but that's not the problem here. A few days ago I received a new update, and after it was done downloading it prompted me to upgrade to the new version, which I complied to. Halfway the installation I suddenly get the "  Oops, something went wrong, we're collecting information and rebooting your pc" pop-up screen. The error had something to do with installing a driver. After it rebooted I just stared at a black screen. Since then I'm not able to boot into windows anymore. Bascially what happens is when i boot, i get the usual bios screen and the Lenovo splash screen. But followed by a black screen with absolute no information. Apart from one single '-' .When pressing 'enter' I hear a beep, and the "boot interruption" screen pops up with various options. Like booting into the Bios to change settings, and to temporarily chose a different boot device. Getting into the Bios settings is no problem, and i can change anything (I resetted the settings to default just to be sure, which didnt do anything). But as soon as I try to chose a different boot device, I get the same black screen. So I am not able to boot my windows 10 Preview installation DVD. I even tried booting without the HDD installed, which gave me the same... Read more

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

Hi,Today i updated bios on my Y510P, everythink was ok but after update I can't go into bios setup. I haven't password before and only I'm using this laptop. There is possible a standard password? I update from 2.xx v to 3.08 v.Regards.

Answer:Lenovo y510p bios password after bios update

Have you, possibly, flashed a BIOS downloaded somewhere else other than Lenovo website? e.g. downloaded, from a "BIOS unlock" forum, another user's unlocked BIOS, and flashed it on your own machine. (bad, bad move) If that's the exact case, you're out of luck. Either the original BIOS user has to supply you with his password (unlikely, as if they do so, they'll have an exact clone -- windows key, mac addresses etc -- of his machine over the world), or you'll have to buy some specific hardware to write directly to your BIOS chip. ---------------------  If that's NOT the case, perhaps there was an password stored previously, and it re-activated after you updated the BIOS? Have you bought this laptop from someone else or is it yours since new? Try getting the password from the previous owner, or sit for a while and try remembering the password you've set previously.  I've updated my Y50 to v3.08 and it didn't ask for a password. Also, if the Y510P BIOS is similar to the Y50, don't bother trying to remove the CMOS battery (which, again, if it's anything like the Y500, it's soldered on the board!), as the password is not deleted if you disconnect it.

I have a Lenovo Z40-70 (owned it for 1.5 years)  and my fans were having some problems the other day. After googling around a little, a lot of people suggested making sure my bios was up to date, so I downloaded and ran this update: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds100528 The update restarted my laptop. After the restart, I got the "EFI network 0 for IPv4 boot fail" for IPv4 and IPv6. This is because my HDD as Windows 7 installed, not Windows 8 (which is the OS that the laptop shipped with.) I knew all I had to do was go into the BIOS and change the boot priority from UEFI to Legacy, so I rebooted and used the NOVO key to get into the BIOS.  Then the BIOS asked me for a "System Password." I have never set a password for my BIOS and I have accessed my BIOS before the update without a password just fine. I did not set this password, I did not create this password. And just to be sure, I have attempted every single password I've ever made in my entire life on this with no dice. This problem only appeared after the BIOS update that I linked above. In a mad attempt to fix the problem, I took apart the laptop hoping to find a CMOS jumper or something like that. Well, the Z40-70 doesn't have a CMOS jumper, and its battery is soldered on to the board. I bet its stored in EEPROM anyway, so that all would be useless to begin with.  All I need to do is get into the BIOS to change the boot order to boot my "legacy" hard drive. Right... Read more

Answer:need an bios update without os installed

Download the BIOS file & flash utility, copy them to a bootable floppy, boot off the floppy, perform the flash from DOS. But before doing that, check your BIOS settings to make sure ACPI is enabled. If it's not, enable it.

I am not able to run the Bios update...any ideas how how I can install the NEW BIOS?the latest bios is date 2012 I have a 2009 version. Ever since I updated the previous bios my computer is getting stuck OFF at times. So if figured if I update to the newest bios this should happen.I also ran via the solution center a hardware verfication and everything is OK.So I honestly think the problem is the BIOS...any ideas?

Answer:I installed Windows 8.1 64 on a T61 and would like to update bios

I doubt your problem is the bios, they don't go bad but if you want to update you can do it from 32bit windows version or from a cdrom boot disc.  Also, if you're going to risk the bios update I'd install the middleton bios which will enable SATA2, and host of other enhancements. It's not an official lenovo product but you can find it doing a google search or if you want to send me a PM I can get you a link. I do recommend you make sure your system is stable before attempting to flash the bios though. If your computer is failing to post when you power it on you may have a failing nVidia GPU (if equipped). If your laptop is crashing or randomly restarting then don't attempt to flash the bios. If it crashes during the flash it could kill your motherboard.  ps. middleton based his bios off the 2011 version, the only difference with the 2012 version is an update for using voice telephone during dialup internet sessions and since dialup is rarely used today no one has modified the 2012 version.

After all that happened with this lemon of a laptop W540 ( miserable trackpad, miserable wi-fi drivers and miserable dock that creates all sorts of problems) I tought that at least this bloody expensive "proffesional" laptop series was left out of the spyware and other rootkit like "features" that can't be removed even if the HDD is wiped clean or replaced. Well it seems that I was wrong, the latest "feature" that is described here: Lenovo used a hidden Windows feature to ensure its software could not be deleted and here: http://tech.slashdot.org/story/15/08/12/1427259/lenovo-installed-software-on-laptops-that-persisted-... it is claimed by Lenovo that doesen't exist on the W series but gues what: it EXITS and the patch published by Lenovo disables it or claims that is does amongs the error messages. So I demand a clear explanation by a Lenovo employee: is the Lenovo Service Engine (LSE) active in the W series of laptops, specifcally W540 and if so when will be a patch released to diable this horrible security bug ?!?! You guys are really doing your best to push out your long time customers.

Answer:Latest BIOS persistent spyware installed by Lenovo, does it affect the W series or not ?!?!

Hello mirceac,

Here are the links to the relevant Lenovo documents in which you will find lists of systems affected by this along with instructions and links to methods to disable or remove LSE, ThinkPads are not included.

Lenovo Service Engine (LSE) BIOS For Notebook

Lenovo service Engine (LSE) BIOS For Desktop

Link to the LSE disabler tool which customers may use to disable LSE, alternatively they can update their BIOS to the latest version as explained in the documents.

Lenovo also released a further statement 11 Aug 2015 regarding this issue;

Lenovo Statement On Lenovo Service Engine (LSE)

I would be very interested to know how you have reached the conclusion that the LSE exists on your W540; this obviously needs clarification.

Answer:Lenovo B50-30 bios corrupted after bios update

hi nikola1970,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Do a hard shutdown by holding the power button for 10secs.
2. Press the OneKey Recovery button and see if you get the Novo Button Menu where you can access the BIOS or even perform a factory restore via System Recovery.
   - Link to picture

3. If accessing the BIOS works but you're not able to restore Windows, you can try the following:

Option A:
  a. Contact lenovo and request for a recovery disc and/or to reflash the BIOS (you may need to send the unit in this case).
    - Support phone list

Option B:
  b. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
  c. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD or USB flashdrive and use it to install Windows (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows).
  d. If successful, obtain the drivers from the lenovo drivers page .

A brand new Q190 supplied with Windows 8.1 constantly pops up a message saying "ThinkVantage System Update Not Installed".  There is no such software listed under support for this model.  There is no explanation of this software anywhere on Lenovo's website, but the message is generated by Lenovo's installed system maintenanace software supplied on the system.A box labeled "fix it" is displayed, and shows only a message to visit Lenovo's website, which is useless. If there is no such software there should at least be a way to turn off these messages interfering with use of the computer.  No such option can be found. .

Answer:Equium A110-276: Do I need to update BIOS when Vista was installed?

Hi

It seems Toshiba has published a special version of BIOS for Windows Vista.
If you want you can check it on the Toshiba driver page.

But if your Vista runs correctly on the notebook with previous BIOS version you don?t need to update the BIOS.
I would recommend updating the BIOS if any strange operational behavior will appear.

Hi - I have an Acer Aspire One 532h netbook. It works, but very slowly. I tried to upgrade by installing a 2G DDR2-667 RAM card but only got a black screen as a result. Reinstalled the original 1G card and it's working - but slowly. Read that I might need to update the BIOS. How do I do that? Thanks!

put the system together myself and person who talked me into it I paid 75 bucks instead of 25 he asked for and now I am on a learning curve. Previous install from format up ran everything fine (No matter if it was not truely the best setup- which confuses me)

fear shows same as dude with older graphics card -renderer not working

How about vivid logic - dvr software Can I use firewire from my motherboard and send and receive data from my tv It has three firewire ports one on front even and a net command system - Do I try it? I am running american research 25' dvi to monster cable dvi to hdmi now with audio r l to tv and optical to avr. Should I switch ati has a tuner for 130.00 but do I need it to send and receive the data to the tv and storage only and back to tv to watch? I don't want to upgrade computer to 3ghz plus for 1080p, but want 1080p on a dvr can this be done? confused about grabbers and pci setups and don't want any of that just storage and playback to mitsubishi with a badass tuner in it hopefully. I can't even figure out how to configure the darn image with dvi seriously it isn't easy remembering cloning and extending desktop and separate settings where it all works. Will video get easier if I just tackle as much of this stuff at once as possible? Skip the blueray and other player for my idea cost wise?

Hi there,

I installed the BIOS update 3 days ago, I did have a couple programmes open at the time and also an external USB mouse in at the time. The hard drive crashed and then blacked out, but the power was still on with the fan working at full pelt. I attempted turning the computer off by the power button, but it wouldn't, so I let it run out of battery. Since then the computer seems to turn on but the screen has been blacked out ever since, so I cannot see what state the hard drive is in.

Any ideas?

Answer:Re: Installed BIOS update to my Satellite Pro L300D and now screen doesn't work

Hi!

Oh buddy, this sounds like that your ROM module is damged due a faulty BIOS update :(

Normally a BIOS update should *not* be done with running background programs (also antivirus). I think this was the reason why the update wasn?t successfully.

However, you can do nothing. You will need help from a notebook technician that can try to reflash the ROM module. On the Toshiba page you can search for an ASP:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Hello

When I will install P0044v370 BIOS Update than I have a error "Toshiba Common Modules is not installed".

My Notebook Toshiba Satellite Pro U200 with Windows XP Prof.

Pleas Help me

Ps. I don?t have a Toshiba Recovery Disk

Answer:Satellite Pro U200: BIOS update - Toshiba Common Modules is not installed

The message is clear enough!
The Common Module is not installed and therefore you cannot update the BIOS.

Visit the Toshiba European driver page, download the Common Modules for Win XP and install it.
Then you should be able to update the BIOS.

bought this recently, and must say that i am pretty pissed. i did installation of windows 7 on it and it worked fine for some 10 days till it got BSOD cause of bad system info and couldnt even load into windows. only solution was to reinstall. i did fresh install and i got BSOD with fresh install after only few days. checked internet for solution and saw that you could select windows 7 os in bios for optimized settings that should prevent BSOD. but no option for windows 7 in bios. only for win 8 and other OS. i thought ok, i will just download latest bios and flash it. but what happened when i downloaded bios (a2cn38ww) from support page?i got this message "your machine does not match with this bios". so does anyone know where i can actually  download correct bios, or how to contact lenovo support so they can tell me where to download bios?

I recently purchased a refurbished T410 as I always have been interested in Thinkpad's for a while and felt it was time to take the plunge. I have been using it without any issues until I installed Lenovo Update and once I installed it I let it do its thing and update all that it needed to one thing being the BIOS. Once everything updated and it restarted itself I was at my desktop and I could not get a wireless signal only to find out that my wireless adapter wasn?t even being recognized. I pulled up device manager and looked into the issue and saw that it has a Code 52. This message followed: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52) After doing some research I found out that upon boot you can press F8 and boot into the Windows advanced boot options and select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement." Once I did this the problem was solved but here is the kicker, this is needed to be done every time you power on the T410 from shut down. Has anyone encountered this sort of problem before or can help me and point me in a specific direction to help fix this issue?

Answer:Lenovo Update installed on T410 now have Code 52 on Intel Wireless 6300 AGN adapter

I figured out the problem and long story short what I did was basically go into the device manager find the wireless adapter and then highlighted it.Once it was highlighted I right clicked it and selected uninstall. Then I restarted my thinkpad and upon restart Windows 7 automatically reloaded the drivers to it and then it was back in action and is now in working order.

Answer:lenovo t410 BIOS update for win 8.1

Hello.

The Windows BIOS upgrade isn't OS specific, it runs on all OS's between XP-Win8.1, even if it doesn't list 8.1 specifically.

You can either update it manually, using the update here:

BIOS Update Utility for ThinkPad T410, T410i

Or make a bootable CD/USB with the ISO file here:

BIOS Update Bootable CD for ThinkPad T410, T410i

Either way works like a charm on a Windows 8.1 machine, but be aware of the risks involved in updating your BIOS.

Good luck!

Hi all, Need help on my Lenovo G40-70 that I've just bought 6 months ago where I accidently bricked the laptop after BIOS update. It seems during the BIOS updating process it when well but after 2nd reboot there's some message on the screen that the BIOS failed to update factory setting and it freeze on the message for quiet sometimes. After a long wait I decided to long press Start button for hard reboot. Then the scary part comes in where it seems the laptop can't longer shows the Lenovo logo & cannot even boot to Windows, just black screen. Hope anyone can help me on this and give some advice on what I'm going to do. I would like to tried myself first before ending up with warranty claim since I'm worried I've brick the warranty due to wrong BIOS update procedure....

Answer:Lenovo G40-70 Bricked by BIOS Update

hi mahdhir2005,

Im sorry to hear that.

I would suggest you call the Lenovo Technical Team regarding the Issue. If it is the BIOS that's causing the issue then there maybe no source or option to have it fixed without they're help or service.

If the BIOS software you downloaded was from a legit Lenovo Site and correct model, then I think It will be ok to Just report them what happened and ask for possible option.

Hope this helped
Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to the forums and I have an inquiry for my Lenovo G505s. So my Lenovo g505s was slowing down when it was being used while charging. After browsing around these forums, I found out that the solution was to update the bios. I then updated the bios to the latest version (3.00). But upon startup, I got a blue box that said "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key......" It also had text that said "EFI Network for IP_______ boot failed" My laptop would not boot no matter what. I then entered the bios and changed the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy Boot. This fixed the problem and now my laptop is working perfectly, but I'm wondering if the boot mode affected anything. I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to messing with the BIOS, so the boot mode options are foreign to me. Did I drastically change something when I changed the boot mode? Why didn't my laptop boot in UEFI mode in the first place? Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo Y500 BIOS Update where?

HiWhy do you want to update the bios? Are facing any problem? You want to fix something? It takes about 7-8 months after a notebook gets released for the bios update to be made. So you might have to wait for some time and bios update is not necessary for the laptop until and unless any problem is there.

Main question:   I have a Lenovo R61 15.4"screen laptop with IEEE 1394.  What is the correct BIOS update version for my system? ** The version on Lenovo's BIOS File Matrix webpage, 7KET72WW (1.22-1.06), seems wrong and out of date compared to this page:http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:jqsAECxdXDoJ:www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68183.html+7OET24WW&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=uswhich indicates it should be 7OETC1WW (2.21). ** Background:  This Lenovo R61 laptop has always been sluggish and problematic, with performance much, much worse than my previous XP system with worse specs.  Originally, I tried reinstalling Vista to remove the unnecessary factory software that I thought might be responsible for slowing down the system.  This was the start of many problems.  I had added a brand new 2nd 1GB stick of RAM to the system, and I wasn't able to successfully reinstall Vista using the ThinkVantage tools.  When I contacted support, they told me it was due to the system being different from the original specs (the additional RAM).  This is rediculous, but also correct.  Also, my Windows key sticker on the bottom of the laptop was scuffed and unreadable, straight from the factory.  I was informed by support that the key isn't useful or necessary because the only way to reinstall Vista is by using the ThinkVantage tools.  Again, rediculous, but after removing my extra RAM, I was able... Dear Lenovo Support, I would like to as you, if you could please provide access to Wake on Lan function in the next bios update/release. As far as I know that the option is there but hidden. I would like to use that feature, so yould you please unhide it? There are modding thechniques to unhide the hidden menus, but the machine is still under warranty, and i thint that the official update would be the better option. Thanks in advance! Br, Istvan
