Preferred Solution: wireless connectivity is turn off

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. I just recently ran in to an extremely frustrating problem with my laptop. I have an asus laptop, it's one of the gaming models. Just recently, it has shown that wireless connectivity is turned off whenever i boot up my computer. The thing is, though, that the manual switch to enable wireless connectivity is switched on. Whenever i attempt to switch it off, then back on, the graphic that pops up on your screen showing that wireless connectivity is disabled pops up even when i switch it on. It does the same exact thing when i use fn + f2, only the graphic saying that it's disabled pops up every time i press it, and wireless connectivity stays disabled no matter what. I have absolutely no idea what to do, this literally just happened out of no where when i booted up my computer yesterday.

Answer:Wireless Connectivity Will NOT Turn on

Hi,

You could try updating drivers for the adapter and for Hotkey/manual switch?

Also couldn't you just do a system restore from the day before or as close to as possible as it only happened yesterday?

Dan.

The OS seems to have turned off my wireless card when powerran low. It appears that the card is working properly according to the networking control panel item. How do I turn connectivity back on?

Answer:Turn on Wireless Connectivity

You wireless card is probably set to sleep on inactivity.

To reconnect, go to Start > Run, type cmd. Now type ipconfig /renew.

If that doesn't work, try ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew

right-click on the wireless connection, choose the power Management tab and uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Also uncheck the second box also.

The best answers are directly in the Help and Support area. Go to Start > Help and Support and type in laptop power.

I've looked up this on the internet and found nothing, they all said the keyboard is the only way, BUT, i have a Toshiba and i never touch the keyboard to enable WIFI, i use a Toshiba Program to do this and it does The same thing that the FN+F8 does..

So the question that i couldn't find an answer for it yet is : how these manufacturers programs are able to turn on/off wireless the same way pressing FN does ?, It's just a program so i want to know the command responsible for it..

I'm not talking about disabling adapter or Turn on/Off Wireless via Win Mobility Center..

P.S : I just want to know how the Toshiba Program can switch off Wireless without disabling the Adapter

Answer:How to Turn On/Off Wireless Connectivity Without FN+ Keys

Hi BassGaz

If I read your question correctly, you are looking for a command line to disable/enable a Wireless Network Connection?

There are several ways to do this.
The easiest way is to type these command's into command prompt:
To disable the Wireless Network Connection:

Code:
netsh interface set interface name="Wireless Network Connection" admin=disabled
To enable the Wireless Network Connection:

Code:
netsh interface set interface name="Wireless Network Connection" admin=enabled
Make sure you run Command Prompt as Administrator, otherwise the command will not work.

I hope this answers your question .

Hello, I have been having a problem recently with my desktop's wireless connections. I know the hardwire connections worked without a problem while I was living on campus but while I am at home on winter break I have to rely on a wireless setup. The machine's specs are listed next to my profile name, and I am using a Linksys wireless-N receiver and router. What happens is once I log on and the machine boots up it automatically connects to my secured and encrypted connection with full signal strength and pretty good speed. It is capable of full internet connectivity and web browsing, but it often fails after a while.

I have had this problem for a couple weeks, ever since I moved out of my dorm. My brother uses the same USB receiver and we tried switching out the adapters with the same result so I am also fairly certain the adapter is not the cause here. Typically, if I only browse the web the connection has no problems, but if I try to connect to Steam or use Himachi to connect to a LAN with some friends the signal changes from high strength to limited connectivity and displays the yellow triangle/exclamation point icon on the task tray. Once this occurs I am unable to connect to the internet whatsoever, though the signal strength from my router is still very strong. I live in an apartment and my room is right next to where the router is located with only a wall getting in between the adapter and router, so I don't think that's an issue either. Oh, and the... Why is it that when you want to connect to a WAP that is in a building the signal strength may suck based on structural elements of the building (i.e. concrete floors or walls) and cause the signal to be unreachable in certain areas whereas a stupid cellphone can connect to and talk with an antenna that might be up to a mile away or more? It can't be a limitation of power, especially considering a PC and the WAP are both plugged into an AC power source whereas a cellphone is running off a little battery. I know there are FCC regulations regarding how powerful a device can be and the range it can function at, but why is is that wireless connectivity compared to cellphone connectivity seems so lame in terms of the distance it can cover?

Answer:Wireless connectivity compared to cellphone connectivity

Two primary reasons. Cellphones operate on a far lower wavelength (several hundred MHz depending on country) and thus get to use lower powered signals which travel better through obstacles. The towers are also both far more powerful and sensitive than what you have in an AP. That combination limits them to lower bandwidth applications, but allows them to be used almost anywhere. It would be more correct to compare cellphones to the big RF wireless networks you see being used to bring broadband to rural areas.

Hey, i have a windows 7 laptop that ive just recently purchased. The wireless Connectivity was working fine last week, now suddenly it just wont work. I believe that its due to a program i recently installed that goes by the name of Connectify. I have uninstalled it yet still whenever i try connecting to any router wirelessly, the PC displays limited or no connectivity. On the other hand When i connect my laptop to a router via an Ethernet cable everything is fine. In case you are wondering, im currently using a 3g usb wireless stick to surf the internet, but i dont want to use it as i already have a router to use. Here are all my info:

I have Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 issue on Dell Inspiron 15R with Windows 10 64-bit.

Lately, the wi-fi disconnects randomly and it says ?no connections are available? or it is connected to the home network but it says ?No Internet, secured?. All my other devices have working wi-fi. I disabled the driver in Device Manager and enabled it right after and it works fine for a few hours.

Since last few days, I am re-enabling it at least 4-5 times a day. I have updated the driver, uninstalled and reinstalled it, yet problem persists. In properties, sometimes it says ?this driver cannot start. (Code 10)?. After restart, it only works for a while (between minutes to hours).

Today, nothing is working. It says the wi-fi is off. I have turned it on in the settings, yet it can't find any available network and automatically switches to off. I have restarted several times but no effect. I don?t know what else to do. Is it a driver, hardware or system issue? How would I know that it is time to replace the hardware?

I don?t know what info to provide to facilitate the issue. Please let me know!

Answer:Wireless connectivity issue on Dell (Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230)

Hi skale87. Welcome to the Tenforums @skale87.

This is a reoccuring problem. Just to rule out obvious can I ask you to power down your router, wait a minute and power back on.

This tool lets you visualize networks around you. The goal is reduce the overlap as much as possible, certainly with strong networks using the same channel.

inSSIDer 3.1.2.1 Download - TechSpot

I saw you have the latest driver but I going to suggest you roll back your driver. If you check your update history you will very likely see a driver update for your wireless in the last two weeks unless you initiated the driver update.

Note the driver version you have currently and then do the roll back. Note driver again. Test. If this doesn't work then I would head to your laptop manufacture site and download their driver your wireless adapter. (Windows 8.1 or 10) Again note version so you know it took.

Before doing these kinds of things I recommend you create a restore point. Given the success people are have with System Restore I would also recommend you make an Image. Macrium Reflect is reliable and free. You should need either but you want to have, better safe than sorry.

Others have reported that by disabling IPv6 their issue has cleared. This can be done using this link, and it can be undone.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nts-in-windows

If rolling back driver works, and you may have to find just the right one, we will have to tell Windows to lay off the driver updates.

I have a T61 using Windows XP. The internal wireless card was factory installed and has not been upgraded. My home Internet is Comcast high-speed. When I take my laptop to a coffee shop, business or other location with a secure wireless network that requires a password, I have not been able to log on. I can see the wireless networks available and can click on the appropriate one, but I never get a window/pop-up box/screen in order to allow me to enter the wifi network's user name and password. Is this a firewall issue, wireless card issue...or? I can access unsecured wireless networks where a password is not needed.

Answer:T61 Wireless Connectivity Issue - can not connect with secure wireless sites

Lisa,

Thanks for joining after tweeting your troubles.   I'm sure we can figure this out - there is a lot of help available from experienced community members here.

The hardware and drivers all seem to be working since you can connect to unsecured networks, and can "see" other networks.   Seems just a configuration setting.

Are you using the built in Windows networking or are you using Lenovo's access connections?

For Access Connections, you would create a new profile for that location and specify the encryption type, etc.

Let us know which you are using to connect and we'll get more into the specifics.

Thanks!

Hi everyone i have a bit of a problem.
Basically I used to be on DSL and now am on cable so I have a cable modem and a dsl wireless router.

Im wondering how I can get wireless conenctivity to the new with plugging the cable modem into the router.

I can connect via ethernet with ETH Port 1 connected to the cable modem from the DSL wireless router and ETH Port 2 connected to the laptop from the router.

But wireless does not seem to work

I dont know what to put as the ip address, default gateway etc.

Here is my Ipconfig -all info when connected via ethernet from port 2 of the dsl rotuer:

IP:77.103.149.48

Subnet:255.255.252.0

Gateway:77.103.148.1

DNS:192.168.0.1

upon copying this to my wireless TCP Ip setting it does not work.

I have a belkin router.

Thanks

Answer:Connecting a Cable Modem to a DSl Wireless Router For Wireless connectivity

It sounds like you have a combo DSL/Router device. What you are trying to do can't be done unless the router supports some facier options in firmware which is quite unlikely. You need a WAN port which that device likely doesn't have.

If what you have is a regular wireless router (there really is no difference between a cable and dsl router other then possible onboard modem devices) then you likely have PPOE enabled on the router and need to change the WAN type to DHCP instead.

I've spent some time on a computer so I'm not totally computer illiterate.
I've spent a lot of time searching for an answer so i have tried.
I've tried a bunch of different things which all worked for other people- none of which worked for me.

I connect wirelessly to my roommates internet. I have signal strength. I get 54 mbs or something. It usually works but not since a couple days ago. I can connect to the internet using a wireless card from verizon that a plug into a pci slot. I can connect on hard line. i even had this same problem on another network but fixed by just using a hard line (thats not an option here). Once I'm connected if I try to open a browser (Mozilla) it says signal not found. And after a while it says "no or limited connectivity". i have no idea why.

Ive tried a patch from windows that fixed the same problem that the SP2 caused.
Ive tried (maybe not doing a good job) changing my IP address
Ive tried updating my drivers and windows all together
Ive tried a couple things I'm not sure of enough to even tell about.
Please help. If there is any information i could provide i would be more than happy to do so. At some point you might ask to see my ipconfig, and ill show you -how to do so without having to type it all out i don't know.

some of the things ive tried but haven't had success with (i might not have done them right its always possible):

Answer:no or limited connectivity - the great GOOGLE can't help so i turn to you

If the network is encrypted try this: delete the network's profile from your wireless utility and then connect (this will cause your utility to ask you again for the WPA passphrase or WEP Hex key). If that doesn't work, disable encryption on the router and connect. Assuming that works then re-enable encryption and reconnect.

If still having the problem here is how you can share your ipconfig /all with us.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi All,

I am using Windows 8.1 and had to refresh my computer as I was experiencing some problems. Everything seemed to be normal so I started slowly installing the programs I had before. Now a few days after, I find that my wireless device is Off and Flight Mode is On. I have been in settings but the relevant switches are disabled.
Can anybody tell me how to fix this please ? I really don't know how it happened. Can it be that my laptop is still infected ?

Thanks,
Robert

I have had this latop less than 18 months. This is the 3rd time I have suddenly lost wireless connectivity. Previously It has miraculously return after a period of a week, but not this time. Even my computer tech can't work out why. Yes, I have done all the trouble shooting advice suggested to the many other consumers with the same problem and nothing works. The wireless adapter isn't even listed in the Device Manager. Any thoughts or feelings on this situation or is my laptop a lemon?

Windows XP? I was going to suggest using the PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, but you may not have it installed. Which OS did your notebook ship with?  Reinstall it and then try internet acces via your wifi again. If it still does not work, then run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI --> Component tests --> wireless. Run the test.  If it fails or even if it doesn't, contact HP to report the issue. I had to use the warranty to have my kid's HP Pavilion 15" notebook's wifi adapter troubleshot and repaired. The HP Service Center came up with the same results tyhat I did. The adapter had failed. They replaced it and  returned it to me. As a result, I had a happier 15 year-old again.

Hi,

I have an Acer TravelMate 370 and i'm having problem in using its wireless connectivity function. The hardware is okay same as the driver. It is just that if I try to turn on the launch key for wireless LAN the LED doesn't lit up. And even if i turned on the wireless radio from windows network driver nothing happens. I still can't connect to our wireless network. And it always says that I should turn on the device before I could use it. I really need your help on this. Thanks a lot

Answer:Couldn't turn on Acer travelmate 370 wifi connectivity button

first off ring up acer tech support and see if they can fix it, maybe a defective wifi module (im assuming its inbuilt)
does it pick up any signal at all? maybe try another wifi network; or is it just dead? can you dig around bios and see if there's any thing to enable regarding the wifi, also same thing inside device manager

Yes, i have the same issue. Though it suffices if you deactivate and activate your WLAN adapter @ networkcenter, you don't need to reboot. This happened to me a couple of times as well.

I disabled Multi-Core in BIOS so i don't have regular lags.I always keep energy saving settings to "Maximum Performance" so i don't have regular contrast issues.I deinstalled ThinkAdvantage Access Connections so i don't have random WLAN Adapter "power offs".

Fixed by reinstalling Energy Management. I had uninstalled as there seemed to be more than one energy/battery management program.

Nowadays, wireless router is a basic device at home because wireless access point (AP) is required. Sometime, a wireless repeater is also needed in a big house especially that with a big yard. Actually, without wireless router, only a Windows 7 laptop can be turned into a WiFi hotpot or a wireless repeater. Many discussions can be found online regarding how to turn Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi AP or virtual WIFI hotpot, however, the internet surfing is based on a local area connection. If wanna extend a WIFI signal to an enhanced new wireless AP, generally two wireless adapters are considered.

Here, differently, with only one wireless adapter but without 3rd-party software, we can setup a wireless repeater in a Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium laptop with only one wireless adapter. This can boost the wireless signal to smartphones, tablet computers, or other wireless devices. Also, the mobility and flexibility allow extending the signal to a yard or a garage conveniently as you want.

It is known that a virtual wireless adapter can be created with a third party software or only Windows 7 built-in commands. But in Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, usually the virtual wireless adapter cannot be created or a hosted network cannot be started. I found a specific approach to clear the issues.

We can follow the steps (successful setup in my two Windows 7 Home laptops),

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and th... Read more

Hello, I am new to this forum.

Also, kind of new to computers. I have a wireless internet connection problem and I'm sorry if I can't explain everything properly but I will do my best.
My housemate has a wireless router which connects to her laptop no problem. The internet on the PC in the house is working fine.
So I bought a laptop and I am having a problem getting on to the network.

Both her computers are McIntosh and she is running windows live. I have Windows 7 home premium. If that makes any difference........?
Also, I have the option to connect to her network and the password but it's not working.

I've tried following the support assistant on the PC. I've reset the router and still nothing.
My laptop says Problems found: Problem with wireless adapter or access point.

How do I check what the problem is?

I know I am just a girl but I need help too.

Fine; I promise - - GENDER is not the issue

Macs and PCs can co-exist nicely so don't fret on that issue either.

Let's gather some info for a baseline:
please report manufacture and model number of the common router
also report the Windows Version/Edition/SP level
eg: Windows XP / PRO / SP3
Windows 7 / Pro / sp?
and try to document your WiFi adapter see below

click Device Manager
find [+] Network Adapters in the right pane and click on the [+]
one entry will contain blah Wireless blah

hi guys

im having problem of connecting with wireless workstation and server. my workstation is using d-link wireless air plus network card and my wireless point is using blw-04em.
sometimes my workstation can get signal from wireless point and sometimes cant.
q1- how do i solve this problem?
q2- why this problem can occur?

Answer:wireless connectivity

I swapped the Q's around because in order to fix it you have to know what is happening with wireless -

q2- why this problem can occur?Click to expand...

A number of factors - Including and not limted to environment (type of structure I.E. is it open floorplan? are there walls? What are the walls made of? Are there any types of lines going through the wall that may release EMF or anything that interferes with Wi-Fi?, location I.E. are you close to the router or far away from the router the farther out you go the worse the signal gets and will cut out as well as some routers are known to cut out if your right next to them wirelessly as well, What else is wireless in the area I.E. do you have cordless phones using the same band that your wi-fi is? Is there a neighbor using the same band you are and they are competing? lastly there is computer problems I.E. has anyone else come over with Wifi and worked just absolutely fine on it when you can't? Have you taken you wireless workstation to another location and seen if it works just fine somewhere else?

q1- how do i solve this problem?

Once you have all that down then you need to do some troubleshooting. Maybe move the PC around a little to find the best wireless location for it to be, Maybe check the channel your wireless is broadcasting on in the router and change it. Maybe if your at the edge of your signal buy a repeater or access point and wire it closer. If its the PC portion you may have to do some uninstallin... Read more

Hello Everyone,
So I've found similar issues in the forum and have attempted to follow those instructions but nothing seems to work.

I have a qwest 2-wire router, with one system(PC) connecting via ethernet, another system (mac) connecting via wireless and my kids Xbox connecting via wireless.
My laptop just recently stopped connecting to the wireless network. When I first got my DSL service I set up the network and set up the laptop to connect. this worked fine for about 6 months, now it only can see the wireless, it can connect but it says it is connected with limited or no connectivity.
My lap top is a Dell Latitude D610 running XP Pro SP2, with an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200GB.

I have successfully connected to the network via ethernet with no problems, its just when I try the wireless that the problems occur.
Also the wireless works just fine on my networks in the office. It seems there is some disconnect or confusion between my laptop and my wireless home network.

When connected to the wireless I run: ipconfig /all and it seems to get partial IP data but is missing the default gateway, and the primary IP isn't one which I recognize as being associated with my router or anywhere in my network, is this normal? Is the router ethernet IP different than the router wireless IP?

I run the same: ipconfig /all while connected via ethernet and I get all needed data, primary IP, netmask, gateway. and all are IP's which I recognize as being associated with my netwo... Read more

Have a Dell Dimension 5100. With a Netgear WG111v2 wireless adaptor. The wireless connection started failing about 1 week ago (router is fine as other wired and wireless internet connections work well). Erratically, the wireless connection will restore and then disconnect again. Mostly it won't connect wirelessly (wired ethernet connection is fine...but i'm running 50 feet of Cat5 cable for this).

I just today started getting a the following message in a box under the WG111v2 heading: "Open Settings.rtf file failed!" --but i can just click OK a couple of times and seems to have no consequence.

Also, the printer (HP 6980 desk jet) connected to PC via USB, sometimes is not recognized by the PC. This is usally fixed thru a reboot.
I run AVG anti-virus and Malwarebytes spyware and both say all is OK.

Any ideas?

I am attempting to connect to a wireless unsecured network.  It shows 4 bars and 72 mbps but then tells me that the "wireless network does not have a valid IP configuration".  When I pull up the connection screen it show IPv4 "no internet access"  When I open the window to Type in the network name and change the Icon I am blocked.  I picked this up before, it is a public wireless in a restaurant.  How do I get a valid IP configuration?  Thanks for dealing with a novice.

Answer:wireless connectivity

First of all - welcome to BC !

Wi-fi connection from a computer of any sort to the internet is in two parts. The first is from your computer to the router, the second is from the router to the ISP, usually by telephone line.

The four bars and 72mbps relates to your connection to the router, which appears to be solid. The 'no internet access' relates to your connection from the router to the ISP. It may be you need to log-on to their system in some way.

I work as a volunteer instructor with a local group, meeting twice a week - once in a bar (!) and once in a cafe, using public wi-fi in both. It turns out to be exactly the same system in both places and everybody using the wi-fi connection has to log in with their e-mail address and a password to use it. Have you tried asking the manager how you get on-line?

Of course, if you were able to connect previously but can't now, it may be because their connection is down. Oh, and when you do get on-line there, since it is a public system - don't do anything sensitive while you are connected to it !

I have D-Link DI-624 router for my home network, and a DWL-G650 adapter for my laptop. I also ahve a D-Link wireless network card in my desktop. The router is in my basement where my cable modem is. I do nto get very good reception at one end of my house, which is releatively small...I was wondering if there was any way to boost my wireless signal so I get a better connection.

Answer:Wireless Connectivity

Sure, I believe that you can buy a new, longer antenna for the router and there are also extenders that you can plug into an outlet that will extend the signal using the wiring in your house. Sorry, I would provide links, but I'm on my way out and don't have time to look them up. Hope this helps. Anyone wanna find links for this guy?

I just won a laptop at my work's x-mas party and have a heck of a time trying to connect the wireless. It's Vista obviously and this is my first time using this OS. Looks a bit different from my XP.

Laptop is a Vista Home Premium SP1. Router (WRK54G) is a bit older but still works fine.

First off I can connect to the internet with my XP laptop via Ethernet and wireless. The Vista can connect via Ethernet. Also, wireless when unencrypted but not when encrypted. I went into my router and copied the password. So I know I'm entering it in right. When I try to connect the error I get is "The wireless authentication settings on this computer do not match the requirements of the network". The router settings are all default with the exception of a password to access the router and encrypted the router.

These are the wireless security settings when I diagnose the problem.

Searched but maybe not hard enough. I got a headache now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try setting up certain firewalls. Also the 128bit encryption key prob you may have to uninstall and reinstall your wireless software.

I have been having an issue with my HP Pavillion DV2000 laptop, this thing is a mess since I bought it. It was my first laptop and 2 weeks into it I had to send it out and have the screen replaced because of bad pixels in the lcd. Ever since then the operating system has been corrupted, and I had to install an additional copy of XP PRO i had lying around.. compared to the previous Windows Media XP.

My issue is that it will pick up wireless networks and connect to the saying "excellent" signal strength, however it will only send packets and receive "0". I can not ping my own network address (192.168.1.1), its error message is "destination host unreachable". I can not ping any websites and what not. I can not access the router, but the router is reading the wireless connection.

If I connect through CAT5 I am fine.

This issue occurs also at my office, and I can not figure out why?

Any help would be great.

All settings are the default settings for the computer, I use the same config on any other computer I setup for wireless connectivity and this issue has got me on all fours with my tail between my legs. I have a linksys router at home and a netgear router at my office..

Some constructive critisizm would be great

Thank you in advance for help.

Hello

I just setup a wireless router today. Netgear WGT624 v3 wireless router. I got it to work earlier but the connectivity keeps dropping. My wireless router and laptop were near each other so its not a distance issue. My other issue is I have my PC connected to the wireless router on one of the ports and I am unable to access the internet. I see a strong connection on the router. I get an IP address on the PC but when trying to access the internet it says page cannot be displayed. If I unplug my connection from the wireless router and put it back into the PC I can connect without a problem. I hope this is not too confusing.

Last week I purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBD with Windows 10, i5, McAfee LiveSave and a LAN wireless Half Mini Card PCI Express 11bgn 1x1. During the first days the internet wireless connection was medium-slow, but these past days it became really slow and kept disconnecting. In the same room I have an older Ideapad s300 (with Windows 8.1 ) which perfectly connects to the internet (the signal gets 4 or 5 bars out of 5), whereas the Ideapad 100 gets 1 bar out of 4. So I brought my new Ideapad 100 close to the wifi modem and it got 3 bars out of 4... HOW can it be that the newer Ideapad has lower connectivity than all of the laptops I've had in the past 12+ years?! Is there something I can do to fix this without creating more problems to my laptop? I'm not a technician. PLEASE help because I did not spend 500 euros to get a laptop with such crappy connectivity, and honestly it's giving me suicidal thoughts. Thanks.

Hi Roland Rat,
Not sure if this is the fix you need but recently my Toshiba Laptop lost it's wireless connection and after applying my knowledge to wireless issues, nothing worked. I continued to find info as I knew someone would eventually have a fix. After an exhausting Google search, I soon discovered the illuminated lights above the row of F keys at the top of the keyboard was one that had the wireless antenna. Under that apparently is a button that I must of pressed on when cleaning my keyboard. So if you have the same setup, push on that antenna and see if that helps....Good Luck.

Hello,

I am writing to inform that at Windows startup, I am not connected to the internet. I left click on the wifi signal bars icon in bottom right taskbar and it shows my wifi home network, but can't connect to it when I try.

I right click on the wifi signal bars icon in bottom right taskbar and I left click on open network and sharing center. It says no connections listed or available.

Every time at start up, I have to run the troubleshooting and it scans for issues.
Then, it says "Network was not properly plugged in or has been disconnected."
"Detected"
"Issue fixed."
There have been times when I run the troubleshooting network connection and it only granted me the options of Network setup or explore more options.

I have tried going to device manager and doing update driver option for each network adapter, but it says, "Your driver is up to date." I even tried right clicking each network adapter and clicking on properties to find out if the driver is working properly. It says, it is.
I have the following adapters:

Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

What is causing this issue and how can I fix it?

I suspect its yor firewall - but if you could answer and post the test below

We need to have information please.

- Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)
- Make and Exact model of Router, Modem or router/modem combination
- Do you have a Firewall - if so it may be blocking access - what firewall / security program do you have ?
- If using wireless, do you have Encryption - if so, Remove any wireless encryption from the router, and try to connect - post back results
- What Windows version is on the PC
- Can you connect the machine directly to the router and see if that works

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

The problem was not in the driver, or the BIOS, or the WINDOWS 7 SETTING. The problem was with the motherboard???bios???powermanagement??? setting I had to install the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7.... After that it was still not working... Then I installed Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad Key combination still not working... no wireless internet THEN I INSTALLED ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 After EVERYTHING installed, the menu came back and i could enable the WIRELESS adapter. FML...Thank you lenovo, for making this a horrible experience...  Lenovo, I am dissapoint....

We bought my son a Lenovo H430 after a brief chat with the saleman. Part of that chat included my son spending a lot of time on the Internet in Forums/Chats with people around the world. I can't recall if we specifically requested WiFi connectivity (it was 13 months ago). His computer connected to our home wireless network after we put it in his room. He immediately saw local netowrks and connected to our wireless home networ. Back at the end of October, Microsoft did 3 MS updates and 7 Security updates on his computer. From that overnight re-boot on, his computer could not even see any local networks, let alone our home wireless network. I also wrote to the Microsoft Forum. When I told the sales and service people at the store we purchased the computer the problem, the conversation went like this: ME: My son's computer was connected to our home wireless network until the MS updates.THEM: His computer doesn't have a network card. It couldn't connect to a network.ME: It was connected from when we left here with it until the MS updates.THEM. It doesn't have a network card. It couldn't connect to a network.((repeat the last two lines a couple times)) We also fouond out his H430 doesn't have a LAN antenna, either. Why did it work for 13 months? Can we get that capability back? (without buying a wireless device) thanks, len Ps. I may be out of the computer world since I retired in 2006, but I can tell you honesly that his Lenovo was... Read more

Answer:Lost wireless connectivity

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

A very interesting and strange dilemma you have.

In looking up your model's specifications in the User Guide, Hardware Maintenance Manual and on several websites selling that model there is no reference to wireless capability.  Each reference source lists that your model has an ethernet port for a LAN connection only.  It is possible that the store that you purchased it from added a wireless card, but that would be easily identified by an antenna on the rear of the computer.  There would also be a wireless card mounted in one of your three expansion slots on the motherboard.

If your model is lacking a wireless card then your only option is to purchase one in order to regain your wireless access.  Fortunately the cost of a wireless card is fairly inexpensive.

I have a T61 laptop and the problem is that the wireless connectivity drops after every 2 mins. This happens when the laptop is running on the battery power and power cable is not connected to the laptop. The connectivity drops for 5 seconds and resumes automatically.

Hi forum, does anyone know a way of improving Sky wireless connectivity? my router is located out in my garden in an office, the download speed is great 16mb, however, the 6m walk from the shed/office kills my wireless capability. Even more of a problem if I try to use my laptop wireless upstairs!I have looked at sites advertising repeaters etc, but as always so much jargon about a subject that I guess effects most people using the basic sky router. So whats the answer, anyone?TQ in advance

Answer:Improve SKY wireless connectivity?

Have you considered homeplug devices? They can be had for around 40 a pair (assuming you have electricity in the shed/office). If not try moving the router higher up and next to the external wall nearest the shed.

I have a Century Link Modem, a Netgear A6210 wireless connector. Five other computers connect fine and access the internet using the same A6210 connector. I installed the latest software 1.0.0.35 for the A6210 and when installed it see the modem, and the neighbors modems. When I put the password in to connect to the modem, it connects at 144 Mbps and there is no internet. The message on the computer is "secured, no internet". The connection diagram from the Netgear Genie shows a padlock over the link to the modem and a red, dotted line with a red "X" thru the dotted line going to the internet. Netgear tested the A6210 and we also used the A6210 that is on this desktop with no change. They say it is the modem, yet I have 5 other desktops running fine! I think it is Windows 10. I have Win 10 Pro, x64 bit, 32 gigs ram, 1 gig video, 5 hard drives, 2 DVD's.

Any suggestions PLEASE!
Thanks Stu

I switched from ATT to Cox yesterday and set up their CISCO DCP 3825 router/modem. I have this laptop connected to the modem via an ethernet cable and connect to my desktop wirelessly. The problem is the wireless internet speed. The wired speed is 33.4mbps and the wireless is 2.3 mbps. I pay for 25mbps. I've exhausted all options at Cox and have been told I'll have to pay $60 to talk to the section that may be able to solve the problem. Can anyone help me?

Hi All,I am using a Linksys WRT54G Router, a D-Link 300T DSL Modem and the belkin Desktop Wireless Adapter Card.My laptop runs off the same wireless connection with an Intel 2200bg and it runs perfectly currently. That is why I assume it is the card. Well, actually *thinks* twice yesterday all my router and modem lights were on, my computer status' said that everything was connected with perfect connectivity but I just couldn't browse the internet. When I restarted the computer and unplugged and plugged all the cables it worked fine again, but the problem did retrun once or twice requring me to repeat the above.Any reason why.Now onto just the belkin desktop wireless card because at the same time my laptops wireless does work. All the router and modem lights are on and the status tab says everything is connected but when I click on a link or browse the web, nothing happens, it just sticks on the same page. If I open up a new tab or window i just get 'untitled'. In IE (that was firefox) I get a page can not be displayed page.Restarting currently isnt helping.Everything looks the same when it is working fine, what do you think is the problem?

I have a router through which a number of devices are wirelessly connected and working fine. One computer ( a desktop) is connected with an adapter and it claims that the signal strength is good - very good, but the connectivity is very low (so I can't go online) What can I change in the setup to solve this problem. I am working in XP. Thank you for your help. Jerry Lock [email protected]

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If your only email accounts are free (Hotmail, gmail, etc.) try this direct link. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Answer:Wireless connectivity problems

No you're better off with SP2 for XP don't use SP1..

Can you tell us more about what you're dealing with?

1. Do you have a Router?
2. Who makes the Router?
3. How many PCs can't connect or can connect to wireless?

Hello there,
I just purchased a new computer - windows xp, amd athlon 64 3800+, 7900GS, 1gb of RAM. I decided to have a Belkin Wireless G Networking PCI Card installed, but unfortunately I can't get it to work. I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and software, but nothing works. I used to have a problem where it would locate the network and say "aquring network address" for roughly 5 minutes then it would say it could not connect. I am not sure if I solved this or not - i set the TC/IP settings to manually configure the IP address, and entered them from what typing "ipconfig /all" into cmd on my laptop (that is wirelessly connected) told me. I am not sure if I have solved the problem, or if I have tricked the computer into thinking there isn't a problem, because even though now it says it is connected, the connection keeps dropping. I load up mozilla and internet explorer 7 and they say the same thing, that the server cannot be found. When I check the wireless connection packets are still being sent and received ... I am really not sure what to do next. The router I have is a Wanadoo one, without a brand name. My other desktop can connect to it fine with a USB dongle and this laptop has not troubles connecting with an internal WLAN card ... Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking at possibly purchasing a Dell XPS17.
I understand most of the options, but confess I am baffled by their wireless connectivity options, and their "Help me choose" is not very informative. Options are:
N1000 (EUR)
N1030 (1x2b/g/n + b/t)
N6230 (2x2b/g/n + b/t)
I understand the last two include bluetooth, which may be useful, but as to the rest.....?
I have 30MB fibreoptic (soon to be 60, I hope), with Virginmedia Superhub

I'm running windows vista and I'm having a problem with my wireless network connection. It says I have "limited connectivity" and an icon showing my connection status shows "unidentified networks" in the way. However, I am able to connect to the internet using the Ethernet cord. Thank you for your help!

Answer:Wireless Limited Connectivity

How far away from your access point (i.e. wireless router/modem) are you when you experience the problem?

Is there any equipment near your AP that is giving off any EMI or RFI?

You may want to try moving the AP somewhere else and see if the connectivity issues subside.

I recently just got a laptop and allowd it to connect to my server (using a Linksys WAP11 and BT Voyager 20 modem). My computer has a WMP11 card and my new laptop has a built in Intel card. Some of the time I get a very good signal, but other times my signal strength is low and so is my signal speed (should be about 11mbps - when it's slow it's 1mbps)What can I try and do to make it fast?I also have another wireless computer upstairs, which also uses a WMP11 and that works fine.

Probably a wifi driver. type device manager in search. go to the networking tab. see if your wifi is listed. does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any other "unknown" devices with yello0w on them?

I'm having an issue with my internet connection; everything was dandy until last week when I re-installed Windows XP. Now, there is a wireless connection, I've checked with the provider and the connection is strong. The problem is that after about 5 minutes, the connectivity drops out. Going to the wireless connection properties 2 or 3 times seems to solve the issue... for about 5 minutes. I'm on a desktop computer that's set up across the room from the router. The software that came with my wireless card overrides the Windows configuration, but that's easily fixable by selecting the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings", although I've been having some difficulty keeping that selected. Last night I changed a setting on the wireless zero configuration and that seemed to set everything right, but this morning when I turned on my computer, there was no connection and I wasn't able to get into the wireless settings of the connection properties until I restarted the computer (about 3 times). Now I'm back at the same point I was when I reformatted.

Answer:Wireless connectivity issue

I would suggest that you uninstall the Adapter's "wireless networking" software so that the adapter is installed with drivers only. You can then use Windows' Wireless Zero Configuration to manage your wireless networking. The problem often is that third-party wireless software overrides Wireless Zero Configuration and takes control again each time the PC is booted. The only way to prevent this is to uninstall it.

Hello

I can't find a solution to my wireless issue (as I seem to be the only one with it) where my computer takes about 2 minutes (sometimes longer) to connect to any wireless router every time I wake it up from sleep mode or turn on/restart it. This has happened ever since I updated my Intel PROSet/Wireless driver. Trying to troubleshoot the problem myself, I disabled everything that has to do with Intel PROSet/Wireless services and noticed that my wireless connection still works without it. It was a while ago when I updated the drivers and have been unable to fix the problem since then (Uninstalling PROSet/Wireless made my wireless adapter not work, saying it did not have any drivers installed). I wish to get this issue resolved so I can easily fix the next ones.
