I had a local shop build me a desktop a year ago.

After a while I began to experience major problems, crashing, not waking from standby, that got progressively worse to the point the machine wouldn't boot.

Perhaps it was a combination of things, not the least of which was the anniversary update. My builder took it in, did all the tests, couldn't definitely find anything directly responsible, and decided to swap out the mainboard.

A fresh reinstall of the operating system was performed and has been repeated several times since.

It seemed ok for several days, then began to experience random crashes. The machine just freezes, requiring a manual reboot. I've maintained all the latest driver and bios updates and windows updates.

Sometimes it wont happen for several days to a week, and then on a daily basis. There is no warning and no specific task I can point to that causes it...certainly not anything that would stress a cpu. Everything just stops.

Im not a gamer. My current Average Temperature is 24 C.

The other thing, also randomly but maybe not quite as often, the computer wont wake up from sleep. After leaving it idle for a while, when I come back to it I get "no signal".

I call it sleep, but its only really a description of the behavior, since I have disabled hibernation, sleep, and the screensaver.

Thru the process of elimination Ive suspected onboard graphics. Just a guess at his point. As I said the mainboard was replaced, but you dont get a new one.

I dont know where else to look.

Still, perhaps there is "something" about this particular mainboard. Ive search for answers and it seems like Im the only one on the planet with these symptoms.

What would you do?

Preferred Solution: Random crashes, wont wake up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows 8 does a nasty crash and then tries to reboot. The reboot seems to hang right after it says Memory Frequency. Eventually it loads but I find one of my physical drives doesn't show up in Explorer. The main SSD works fine but my old HDD.
So far this has happened a few times a day.
If I give it some cool down time before rebooting everything loads up fine.

Can anyone please help?

Answer:Random crashes then 1 HHD wont show up

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to ... Read more

Ok so I have a HP Mini 110 and lately my computer has been acting strange. It wont shut down. If I try to shut it down it will act like its shutting down then re boot back up. If it goes to "sleep" (the buttons are still lit, typically the power button will just flash on and off) it wont wake up unless I use the power button.

Now this all started happening when my computer stopped or failed to update my language packs which took 28 hours to fully finish. Only 14 out of the 32 downloaded ok fine so i shut it down to just finish those that were installed. Ok so shutting down then the whole "Dont turn off your computer installing updates" then it gets stuck at 15 % then it goes to a black screen that i think said something like "initiating updates in 0 outta 321472 files" this took a good hour to finish. Then brought me back to the 15% screen then that changed to "Updates Failed" and something else, then the computer restarted.

WHAT DO I DO?? could it possibly be a virus???

I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago, it is a HP Pavillion Notebook. For about a week now, maybe even since when I got it, the laptop sometimes fails to wake up from sleep. The screen stays black, gets slightly lit up to gray, then the computer and goes through all that comes with that instead of waking up.

The event log shows a Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework error.

i have an alienware m15x laptop with win7 and a couple of times a week when i wake my computer up it goes to a blue screen and crashes. after it boots up again, it says intel boot agent ge pxe-e61, pxe-mof check cable. i googled it and people said that sometimes it tries to boot from a network, so i disabled all boot options in bios except the hard disk, but im still having the error. the drive is a 64gb ssd, and it's only a few months old, so it shouldn't be that right? also, i took out the drive and cleaned it with a q-tip as best i could, even though i make a habbit of not touching the terminals of connectors and i couldn't find any dirt on it, but that didn't work either.

Answer:laptop sometimes crashes on wake

ok, this happened again so i took careful notice of what was happening and here's some specifics:
it showed the windows logon screen with some elements missing (like the cammera's display for aliensence) then an element or 2 went away. after about 4 seconds it showed a blue screen for about a second. i couldn't read it all, but i did make out it saying something like collecting data for a crash dump. then it rebooted and displayed the following text:
intel(r) boot agent ge v1.3.35
copyright (c) 1997-2009 intel corporation
pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable
pxe-mof: exiting intel boot agent
operating system not found

after that i power down and reboot, and aside from lost data, i can logon fine (until it happens again)

I have this big problem since I have received my P50 (at least for one year now). It is a 7600HQ machine with a Quadro 1000M video card. Let's say I start my day by turning on the laptop. The laptop boots. I see the Windows login screen. If I wait a little the P50 crashed very hard. The screen shows the artifact in the screenshot I have attached but sometimes I see an even color (like yellow) instead of the artifacts. The whole system is frozen. The lights on the keyboard do not react (num lock for example). So I hard reset the laptop using the power button and this repeats for around 10 times before it is booted correctly. And after this: the P50 is rock solid. It stays on for days at a time. Multiple VM's running, 32GB memory, M.2 SSD. Fully functional. So I thought it was Windows and installed Linux. This showed the exact same behavior. Some things to consider: 1. Only happens when I turn on the computer after some down time2. Once up it is rock solid3. Seems to happen more when I connect an external monitor (immediatly after connecting the cable). Both DP or HDMI show the symptoms. But I have seen it happen while using the P50 on my lap.4. All updates installed via the System Update app of Lenovo. Inclusing all BIOS updates5. Tried the hybrid or dedicated options in the bios for the video card. No change.6. It does not happen all mornings. Sometimes it boots up fine on the first try.7. Never happens in the BIOS or boot up screen. Only when the... Read more

My computer will crash whenever I open Opera, im not sure what the problem is either, although i have a session of different links on there which may or may not be related to the problem. It just started to freeze and crash my computer after I started opening it. My computer will also freeze up and get extremely slow after at random times, not sure if its random or not since theres no definite trend to it but my computer will freeze, no black screen or blue screen though, but the music in the background will continue playing normally and sometimes if im doing something like changing the window im viewing or the such during the freeze, it will execute that change in windows extremely slowly, taking like a minute or so but its extremely slow after that so i'd have to restart anyways. Also, Opera had a more definite crash than this, being unable to do anything. I'm not sure whether its a virus or not since I have found viruses that do similar things before on my computer but malawarebytes anti-malware and superantispyware free doesn't detect any viruses. Also, this does not occur all that frequently, for example: it doesn't really occur when im playing a game full screen like warcraft 3 or fallout 3 but it usually happens when im playing like a windowed game and viewing websites (these websites probably dont contain viruses or the such) on google chrome or playing a windowed game and viewing a manga via images or the such. I can also leave my computer on overnight and it wouldn... Read more

Hello all,

recently my windows xp(sp2) has just encountered a massive set of problems that all started appearing all at around the same time.
1. I cannot install/uninstall any programs, ANY programs, be it warcraft 3, firefox, or word processing applications or anything. What happens is the installer starts up, then when it starts to install or uninstall, it just hangs there completely.
2. Programs that are in use on the computer crash randomly. MSN messenger randomly crashes and just locks up itself and all conversation windows. IE sometimes hard locks itself without prior provocation. Firefox, ms word, windows media player... anything and everything hangs at random intervals.
3. Interestingly enough, when any program hangs, even taskmanager (ctrlaltdel) is unable to close the locked up program. It is stated there as not responding, but when i click end task either of two things happen: a) taskmgr ignores my request entirely b) taskmgr ITSELF hangs (the title says "windows task manager (not responding)"
4. Computer cannot shut down. Clicking the shut down icon on the windows menu lags the entire computer and the menu to restart shutdown or log off never appears. As a result i have taken to manually pulling the plug. Obviously this cannot continue.

I have avast4 which is updated and there doesn't seem to be any viruses or spyware. Also when a program hangs, it doesn't take up more cpu than normal; cpu usage always remains the same (around 0 to 10 for me)... Read more

Question: Random Wake-Up

I've recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A500 with Windows 7 on it, and I'm having some issues with it waking up randomly. I will usually shut my computer down before I go to bed, but by the time I get up in the morning it has turned itself on and put itself into sleep mode.
Often times when I turn it on after this, the batter will have lost 10-20%, and today I just left it when I left my house this morning and when I got home it was completely dead.
So it seems that I have no way of keeping the battery charged for more than a day.
I have no idea what is causing this, and I have found a couple of other cases online where people were having this problem.

Answer:Random Wake-Up

By any chance is it waking up at 8:20am?

Are you 100% positive the machine is completely shutting down and not suspending or hibernating? I know it's a stupid question but the simplest stuff is overlooked the most.

If you are 100% sure, restart your machine and enter the BIOS [F2, I believe]

Find the entry for USB SLEEP AND CHARGE and disable it.

That should fix it.

If it doesn't, check the Toshiba Web site for your specific A500 model and get the latest BIOS update [the latest should be 1.50]

If that STILL doesn't work, reset your BIOS to default settings and restart.

Still stuck? let me know.

Hey guys, first post on here after about a week of solid research and forehead-to-screen bashing (and a few months of increasingly more frequent issues) trying to figure out what is wrong with this computer.

Here's the specs:

? OS - Vista Home Premium SP2
? x64

? What was original installed OS on system?
-Probably sometime in 2009. Here is what the computer originally was: iBUYPOWER Gamer Gears of War 988 Desktop PC - (iBUYPOWER Core 2 Quad 8GB DDR3 750GB HDD Capacity Desktop PC Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Battle Gear X3 - same one but has some feedback) purchased 6/2009. All of the basic hardware is original, except for the stuff listed in the Other Info section below.

? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)?
-pre-installed in the computer IIRC

? Age of system (hardware)

? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS?
-2009? No reinstall if memory serves me right

I got a Satellite U300 few days ago, and I am experiencing troubles when the laptop goes into sleeping mode.
The thing is that when it goes to sleep, the screen switches off, but the power indicator remains on (blue), instead of blinking with an orange color.

Then it is not possible to wake up the laptop, and the only solution is to reboot the computer.

I've been trying the different possibilities to get into the sleeping mode, and I get the problem mainly when the computer is in the Vista high-performance mode, and when pressing the switch-off key in the fast menu.

I know Vista gives quite some many problems, but I haven't seen anybody here experiencing the same problem.
Should I send the laptop back to technical support?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite U300 crashes and cannot wake up from sleeping mode

I have had opportunity to work a little bit with several Toshiba notebooks and one of them was Satellite U300. After short check of notebook basic functions I can say for sure that switch between running mode and standby/hibernate work well and I didn?t notice any problem there.

I really cannot understand what is wrong there but please do this:
- If you want to switch into standby choose option using START button.
- Wait a little bit and I hope after few seconds the notebook will change into standby mode (blinking orange LED)
- Close the lid
- Wait a moment open the lid and press power button
I really hope your notebook will start properly and you will be able to use OS again.

If any of you have a radeon card (might apply to nvidia cards too) and you have been experiencing random crashes to desktop / reboots / VPU Recover windows ...Go into you r bios and change the vid card core voltage to 1.7v, if 1.7 doesnt fucntion, use 1.8. That should fix 95% of all of you crashing problems.

I had tried everything to fix these crashes, formatting HD, reinstalling windows...I even bought a new power supply. None of it worked but since i switched to 1.7v I have had no problems in any games and no crashes at all. It was set to the default 1.64v unbeknownst to be.

Anyways if youve tried everything like me...give it a try I think that it will fix it.

Answer:A FIX for random game crashes and Vid Card crashes!

Ummmmmmmmm... I'm sceptical... I think voltages generally aren't meant to be messed with... if you do, just know that you may run the risk of frying your card...
...right??? not all cards run on the same voltage, and if it's supposed to run on something lower, it could get fried, right?? and then if it's supposed to run higher than that, MAYBE some bugs would get fixed, but wouldn't the card also run slower??

Which radeon card do you have anyway?

EDIT actually, it looks like the standard voltage for AGP cards is 1.5v... upping the voltage will (I believe) up performance a little, as well as heat generated. Too high a voltage, however, will result in BSODs and the like.

Hello I've been having these blue screen issues since I got the computer and the thing is, it's random but also not random. My computer may go weeks without crashing then suddenly (most likely triggered by running a certain program or game) I crash and then it happens like 10 times in 1 hours or until I get fed up. Another thing, is, I used to play a couple games here and there and this one game I played (not very resource intensive btw, usually fairly outdated older games) would never have any issues, then upon triggering the wave of crashes somehow, my computer would start crashing periodically while playing this game. But other times I could play the game for a couple hours even without a single problem.

This made the issue really hard to diagnose but I do have this info which may or may not help...

- The crash may be related to memory as a lot of the error codes are like X00000000 (have a lot of 0s in them) and a buddy of mine said that usually means memory error. However I have installed new memory chips and still crashes
- One of the codes usually looks something like XFFFF80A08 or something like that though...
- There are a couple ways I can guarantee a crash which includes: trying to sync music to my phone, trying to burn a cd, trying to install certain programs (bigger programs)
- The first crash I ever had followed the genuine windows warning and messages, I've used various remedies for it which usually work for a little while, of course until my computer ... Read more

Not true. The numbers listed in the bugcheck parameters (inside the parenthesis) are simply hex memory addresses and can be any hexadecimal number/letter.

I ran 14 of the dumps you submitted.

The bugcheck on all 14 dumps was 0x124 = WHEA = Windows Hardware Error Architecture, a/k/a "Machine Check Exception" - a severe and unknown hardware error.

0x124 BSODs are notoriously difficult to solve because the cause is simply "unknown hardware failure".

Unfortunately, the dumps are incapable of telling us which piece of hardware has failed. Dumps are only good for figuring out software (driver) problems.

All I can really do here is to give you some hardware diagnostic programs to run.RAM - memtest86+ - run 1 stick at a time; alternate the slots -
HDD - SeaTools for DOS, LONG test -
FurMark video card test -
Prime95 CPU -

The problem may also be with other hardware parts such as the motherboard or PSU for which there are no software tests.

After 1.67 BIOS update Twist began to randomly wake up from sleep mode after 2-3 hours of sleeping. Also deep sleep (standby mode) stopped working. After revert to 1.63 (1.65 was also broken update (USB ports weren't working after sleep mode) and 1.66 just resolved that issue) everything goes back to normal.

I need your assistance with wake on lan.

Asrock b75m B75 mobo, realtek NIC onboard, win 7 x64.

I could wake the pc before so i assume the tools are working and the configuration is correct. Wol in the bios is active and the option in the nic driver in the OS too. The system is setup to enter sleep mode automatically.

The last attempts to wake the pc up were unsuccessful though. The sleep led was buzzing but sending the magic packet didn't do anything.

What could interfere with wakeup? Is there maybe a bios bug? Or an OS/driver issue?

Answer:PC wont reliably wake on lan

It could be a driver issue or it may be caused by a firewall blocking the relevant port. Try to temporarily disable your firewall and test.

Also, try the wake on LAN from a clean boot mode (Bar any applications that are needed in order to get it to work) and see if that resolves anything. If it does then a third party application will be interfering.

Question: screen wont wake

hi my laptop screen is set to turn off after 5 mins, when it does i cannot wake it, no matter what buttons i push or using my mouse. this black screen also happens when i restart my computer, it logs me off the the screen goes black and computer power lights are still on and it does nothing

Answer:screen wont wake

This is likely a video card driver issue (or driver issue in general) not responding to to power state transitions correctly. I would expect you'd be getting 9F related BSOD's, however, it's always a possibility.

First thing I am going to recommend is that you update your video card drivers to the latest version (depending if you have AMD or nVidia) is the website you'll want to visit.

Samsung n150 windows 7. My netbook goes into sleep mode and I can't get it to wake up. Tried evry key . Hard reset is the only way. I have seen answers to similar questions, concerning BIOS, but I havent a clue what to do with that.

Answer:my netbook wont wake up

Have had this on a similar laptop - there was a key/keys to press to wake it up - this/these vary with your laptop. Enter and Escape are two common ones. In addition holding down the "on" button for a short time often works When you do get it to wake up - change the settings so that it never goes into sleep mode if you can.
Or it may just have been having a lie-in. It is Sunday after all.
Good luck

Answer:wont wake up from sleep w7

Hi, this from another post covers your problem:-

Hi, since this revolves around "hibernation" lets take a look there. Your hibernation settings are contained in a file "hiberfil.sys" and if it is corrupt could be the cause of your problem (none of this will do any harm). Lets clear the file:-

Open a CMD prompt (as administrator, accessories right click command prompt select "run as administrator)

At the prompt type:-
powercfg -h off press enter
reboot to take effect
This will disable hibernation and clear the hiberfil.sys file.

After reboot open another CMD prompt (as administrator, as above) and type:-
powercfg -h on press enter
reboot to take effect
Now go to this site and apply the recommended settings for power saving (inc hibernation) read it all.

Hopefully this will resolve your problem.(don't worry about the vista applies to 7 as well)

Got an Inspiron 6000, XP home sp2. When I let the battery run down (or whatever) and the puter hibernates it won't wake up and keep the files that were still open. I basically have to reboot it and find that everything is gone. Yes, I have low battery alarms set, but sometimes I underestimate the time it takes to get plugged back up.

Is this a hardware problem? Puter is still under warranty.

Is this a Windows problem?

I just need some general direction, don't know where to begin w/tech support if it is a hardware problem.

Answer:wont wake up after hibernation

Are you saying that you keep using it until the battery is flat and shuts down from alck of power...or as you say hibernates and when you get the main power back on or restart it you files are gone that you were using?

You can go to Control Panel under power Management and set the alarm to warn you way before it gets that low....if it gets so low then your files won't be saved

recently my pc running winblows xp started putting itself to sleep, its not suppose to, i never set it to do that, i looked at the power management settings and they havent been altered, they are set to never do this to me, yet it is doing it. when it happens, i cant get it to do anything, i cant wake it up, the mouse and keyboard both fail to respond and i have to turn the pc off and back on. the only thing i did before this stuff started happening to me is an update on spybot search and destroy, i emailed the makers of that program and they claim that s&d wouldnt cause this(but under the circumstances i have to be skeptical) what is doing this to me? how can i stop this? its annoying the crap outa me

Answer:why does my pc now go to sleep? wont wake up

Do a system restore to before you updated Spybot. That update shouldn't have affected it at all. Worse case scenario, go into power management and create a custom scheme and use that.

my desktop PC has been giving me a hard time with random crashes and BSoDs (mostly crash/reboots, sometimes BSoDs). they started in October 2015 and have become more frequent overtime. the crashes/reboots are mostly when the computer wakes from sleep; most of the time, it just reboots after waking up and showing the login screen, although i had one or two BSoDs instead of a sudden reboot at the login screen. i also had one BSoD while viewing a Flash-based video in Firefox.

I'm running Windows 10 on an old Phenom II machine that I've been using for years. I never had problems with it on 7 or 8.1 but am having plenty since I upgraded to 10.

My biggest issue is the computer becoming nonresponsive and only working again after a forced restart. This only seems to happen after the displays have gone to sleep. For example, today and yesterday I was playing music while doing schoolwork at home. The displays went to sleep and the audio was fine for ~20 minutes until it bugged out and was stuck in an repeating audio loop. I tried to wake up the displays, but the keyboard and mouse were nonresponsive - couldn't even turn on/off numlock lights, etc.

I've uploaded a log but I don't know where to begin. I removed my soundcard and the problem still occurs so that isn't it. All event logger says that I can find is "unexpected shutdown."

Any help is very much appreciated... I keep on losing work when I walk away from my computer and it hangs.

It as been a while for me with these two problems which I was not able to solve for my self.

1) when I wake the pc after it's been on sleep mode all night, it wakes up but no display. the screen has a small blue light that stays on after the pc wakes up, but after a few seconds it comes back to blink. ( all the while the screen is black), then i am forced to reset then screen comes back.

2) there also seems to be another problem, which I am not sure if related or not. recently I think after the big windows 10 update, when I watch videos either on pc itself or youtube, there seem to be a random slowdown/stuttering/ fps drops or what ever... this happens just for just 5-10 seconds each time.

i have tried delete and reinstall the gpu driver, but it didn't work. i should mention that games does not suffer that problem.

I have a new Dell laptop with Win7 Enterprise which BSOD's every once in a while when I hit the power button. I previously changed the power button to Hibernate. It does not always BSOD every single time. It sometimes BSODs when going to, and sometimes when waking up from Hibernate.

The zip file is attached (I hope I did it correctly).

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Random BSOD when computer going to hibernate or wake up from one

Hi dmash.

The BSODs (all of them) reports that it is caused by Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 driver.

So apparently it is not the right cause of the BSOD, and something else is causing the network blockage, making PROSet fail and causing the BSODs.

And when McAfee is present there, the first notion definitely goes on it, as it keeps an user safe from threats over network by blocking the network!

Uninstall McAfee Using McAfee Removal Tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Let us know the results.

So I'm starting to have a few problems on this PC I just built about 2 months ago. The first problem is, sometimes when my computer falls asleep, it won't wake up, at all. I end up having to do a hard reset whenever this happens. This just started happening a few days ago out of no where, and it usually happens only like once or twice a day. The other problem I have is sometimes my audio will go out. It only happens when I have it on mute, but it doesn't always happen though. And when this happens, I end of having to hit the reset button and restart the computer.

I should note, I feel these problems may be related in some way. But that's just me, I really have no idea. When the audio goes out, if I right click on the little speaker on the bottom right corner, and then click playback devices, my playback device (My monitor, ASUS VE248h) isn't listed. And of course, it's listed when the audio IS working.

After I started getting the audio issue, I attempted to update my audio drivers, but the program crashed in the middle of the update. And now the computer tries to update every time it starts, but it always has an error and never completes. My audio still works fine though, except for when it goes out of course.

I realize these problems are probably pretty vague, but I'm just throwing them out there. Maybe somebody will have some ideas.

Answer:2 random issues. Sometimes when PC falls asleep, it won't wake up, and

Try updating the Display and audio driver (again), from Windows Updates or the PC or device maker's Support Downloads webpage.

If display driver doesn't solve Sleep issue, and it's set correctly at Control Panel>Power Options, then try Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums.

You may need to reinstall the Video and sound card or adapter.

First time posting here, so please bear with me as I attempt to upload the requested files created by the SF program instructions.

I will get a BSOD when restarting or waking from sleep. I'm in the process of getting my video card replaced via RMA from EVGA. They're sending me a GTX 460 SE. Also, I'm working on getting the PSU replaced as the voltage was showing a bit shallow in the 11.82-11.88 range according to HWMonitor. Thermaltake says it's within ATX specs but they're willing to RMA anyway. System is about 4.5 years old that I built myself.

Reckon we'll start with y'all suggesting how to resolve. I've resorted to shutting down and powering down rather than putting to sleep which seems to have stopped the BSOD that occurred during restart. I can restart without a BSOD now. SFC doesn't show anything but these 2 entries with everything else reporting OK:

I recently built a new desktop PC running a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit retail version (see my system specs). All hardware was purchased new, and all software installed were fresh installs. All Windows Updates were applied successfully, including SP1. I have also updated all drivers using manufacturer supplied drivers online as well as through Windows Update. BIOS is flashed to latest manufacturer version, and RAM timings were tightened to rated specs (default 9-9-9-24 at 1.5V, rated for 7-7-7-21 at 1.5V).

After using my system for a day or two, I started getting frequent Firefox application crashes (several times a day). These manifested themselves by abruptly exiting out of Firefox and bringing up the Crash Report manager; no freezing up or unresponsiveness of any sort was involved. I am using Firefox 4 with no third-party add-ons except for AdBlock Plus. I also received several BSOD's (three, I believe), one of which is MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (0x1A). The BSOD's occurred randomly while browsing or doing other tasks, and did not appear to be triggered by any given event. This happens primarily when I am playing a game. The screen turns off, pressing the keyboard or the mouse does not do anything. I have to hit the power button to get out.

I checked all the sleep and power settings, everything is set to never.
Here is the DxDiag file.
Anyone know?

i read through the first 5 pages lookin for this thread but was unable to find one. i got a new HD hannspree monitor a little while back and noticed a while later that if i ever need to reboot, the power light goes orange like its in power saving mode, but it wont wake up when the computer does, i have to physically turn it off and back on. ive tried swapping the drivers out for it but didnt seem to have any effect, im not entirely sure the video driver has anything to do with the monitor shutting off.

thanks for the help.

The video driver provides the signal to keep the monitor out of standby so if it is corrupted somehow it might not be able to come out.

check the driver in device manager

I have a Logitech G15 keyboard with a built in lcd screen that works fine when I start my computer but it will not wake up coming out of sleep mode. It displays the logitech logo but will not do anything else. If I unplug the usb cable it will reset and work fine. I spent two weeks going around and around with logitech tech support and the best they could do was give me a discount on a refurbished keyboard. I've updated and back dated drivers as I was getting bsod's traced to an old keyboard driver and everything works ok but it would be nice if I could get the clock to work. Any suggestions?

I'd suspect a driver glitch, likely related to the other driver issues you were having. The only solution for such issues is typically a fresh OS install.

One of the computers here at work has a hard time waking up. It usually gives trouble even coming back from sleep mode when in Windows. You can move the mouse around for a good 2-3 minutes before it wakes up and the screen goes back to the desktop.

Also, I dont think this is related, but when the computer powers on or reboots, it sometimes takes a good 5-10 tries before you can see anything on the screen. You can hear it booting up by the normal computer beeps, but theres nothing on the screen. Ive already replaced the video card and cables. Also I checked the monitor. Its not any of those.

Its an older Gateway 1.2 Ghtz computer with about a gig of ram.

I dont think the two problems are related, but I may be wrong. Anyone? Thanks

i have a brand new laptop which refuses to wake up from sleep when i open the laptop up.

the only way to get it back to life is to press the power option, reboot. sometimes this doesnt work unless i remove the power cable, i have nothing else connected except the network cable

have spent the last 24 hours reading and researching.

i have reinstalled windows 7 from the supplied discs
i have reinstalled the drivers from the supplied disc
i have updated the bios to the newest version
i have updated the graphics card driver
i have tried several combinations in the power management section of win7
i have visited many forums and read pages of info but as yet, no one thing seems to cause this, its quite a common problem by the sound of it.

one thing i did note from various logs is the realtech HD audio prevented system sleep altho nothing was playing, i did try to update its driver but it has the latest available.

fujitsu esprimo v6535
160Gb hdd
2Gb ram
3 days old

if you have any suggestions that i might try to solve this, please feeel free to contribute... i am at my wits end and will probably return the machine tuesday if i dont come up with a solution, closing the lid to sleep and opening up is vital to any laptop imo.

there dont appear to be any power management options in the bios and this laptop woke up for the first day of use and now doesn't so it cant be too difficult, what am i missing here....

thanks for your time.

Answer:Windows wont wake from any mode

Hi xboxhaxorz,

This is a known problem, but it could be caused by the upgrade, system files or a bug.
After upgrading, did you perform a clean install?

Please do the following:

Open an admin command promptCopy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enterWhen it finished reboot your systemOpen again an admin command promptEnter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

My computer will go into screen saver, but after a few hours the monitor will shut off, I am assuming sleep mode altho I dont have it set to do that. If it has only been a few hours I can move the mouse or hit any key and the monitor will come back on and all is well. If it has been over nite I can click the mouse or hit a key and the desktop will come up but I cant open any programs or start firefox. Using the start button and trying to restart or shut down will not open and occasionally all I get is a black screen. When I do have the desktop and try to open a program it gives me a message like "a window cant be opened" or it cant find the file...and a few others....This has been a few weeks now and the only solution is to manually turn the computer off, then on again. It will restart everything and all is well. I have taken to just turning the computer off when I am done but I sure would like to go back to leaving it on in screensaver mode.I updated the latest video driver about a week ago, but that didnt help. I used system restore and restored it back about a week before this started happening and that didnt help either. Here is the latest HJT logfile, I have no clue what it means and appreciate any help with it, or any other ideas...tnx...Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 4:43:50 PM, on 6/5/2010Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6002.18005)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Windows\sy... I can't figure out why but my system wakes up from sleep/hibernate mode just fine, but the monitor wont turn on.

I'm on a ati 7970 w/ the dell u3011. Does anyone else have this problem?

Answer:Display wont wake up from sleep

Are you using display port?

I had that issue with my 6970's and 7970 on my U2412m. Something about hibernation causes it. I turned off hibernation and the issue went away. I still let the display turn off after 10 min.

I used to have to either unplug the displayport cable and reattach it, or unplug power to the monitor and reattach it.

What does the power button do? Wake it up, Resume Windows, or cold boot? I'm wondering if it is
actually going into hibernation. It might be worth double checking your power plan, which
probably includes HP's extensions. Is this a desktop? (That's what the model number brings up.)

If you are experiencing the S10 with Vista crashing upon resume/wake up from LONG TERM sleep/suspend/hibernation there is some help from Microsoft here: Microsoft KB Microsoft KB1 The second article is more detailed in identifying the correct registry key. This problem with the S10 seems related to the usbvideo.sys driver used by the built-in Lenovo webcam so you have to find the registry key in your S10 associated with the webcam. According to the articles it is a problem with Vista and it exists in other laptops/desktops and other usb devices. These articles may also help if you are experiencing this issue with WIN7.

Just started getting BSOD's on wake-up from hibernation or just browsing the web. I haven't added anything new in the way of programs that I can relate it to.

Blue Screen viewer points me to NTFS-sys+f0780 as the causing the crash and also says Ntoskrnl.exe+74ec0 as the crash address. Don't know if any of that is helpful. Also says KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR.

I have attached my log as per forum instructions.

Thank you all in advance!

I got a brand new Lenove W520 - 4276-37UI put the thing to sleep put it in my backpack. and it wont wake up. Instead it just cycles through the boot process. My laptop also has random reboots.  I have found many other posts on this with no one solving the problem. They come with ideas of changing the bios, or ram.  The laptop is brand new so I sent it back to the lenovo repair shop, and got the message "Nothing is wrong" with it and sent it back. Lenovo what is wrong? Should I just return the computer?

Answer:W520 "wake from sleep", "random reboot" issue

I have searched the internet and throughout this forum. In a nutshell, I need and currently use Wake on LAN, but my computer randomly "wakes up" from Standby and Hibernation. This only occurs when my computer is connected (via a router) to the internet. Unplugging the network cable eliminates the random "wake ups." The event viewer show the network card as the source of the wake up events when they occur.
I have tried both S3 and hibernation with the same results.
I thought "malicious" network traffic could be to blame, so I disabled my DDNS service ( and refreshded my external ip address.
I disabled port forwarding and DMZ for my computer on the router.
I disabled orb (for streaming),, and filezilla ftp server.
I have disabled standby and hybrid sleep when using hibernation.
USB selective suspend is disabled as well as the usb wake up settings in the bios.

I am not sure what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Random Wake Ups related to network traffic, but I can not disable WOL

I don't know if this helps - but you might be able to set exactly what your network adapter responds to in order to wake up your computer. Try going to Device Manager and opening the properties of your adapter, and look for an Advanced tab.

Mine for example (a Marvell device) has an entry called Wake-Up Capabilities, with the options of None, Magic Packet, Pattern Match, Magic Packet and Pattern Match and Link Change.

If yours has a similar setting, try changing it and seeing if that helps.

Very frustrating... My X1 Carbon, using Windows 8.0 (due to corporate policy I am not allowed to upgrade to 8.1 nor downgrade to 7.0) which includes 4 Gigs of RAM, and an Intel SSD, if placed into sleep mode (either by closing the lid or pressing the FN-F4 button), will not wake from sleep mode if the machine has been in sleep mode for a while (guessing anything over an hour.)  Yes, Yes, I know pressing the FN key should bring the computer out of sleep-mode, but the FN key doesnt work.  The only thing that works is to completely shut-down the computer and turn the computer back on, which naturally causes the machine to completely reboot. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I have two computer monitors. About every day at least once, they will randomly fall asleep while i'm actively using the computer. Once they fall asleep, they wont wake back up again no matter what I do until I shut down and restart the PC. When they fall asleep all of my backgroup applications are still up and running. Spotify still plays music, and i can still hear whatever videogame I was playing. All of my drivers are up to date as well as my OS. I've checked the cables to my monitors (2) and I have also factory reset them to no success. I've researched this issue and nothing I have tried has solved it. My specs include a GTX 970 ssc GPU, a core i5-6600k cpu @ 3.5 GHz, 16gb ddr4 ram, and an up-to-date version of windows 10 pro.

It has worked  ok for nearly a year.  Now when I put the machine to sleep by selecting window->shutdown->sleep, it goes to sleep. However, when I come back to it, and scan my finger etc, I find the machine has completely shutdown, and is booting from scratch.  Then, when it gets to the winows part, it hangs on the finger print reader icon.  I can hear people rining me on skype etc, so winows has booted, but the dam FPR wont get past the login.  I ahve to hit escape, then click on manual login then bam, Im in a fully booted up windows. I remember this happening a few times in the early days. It only seems to happen in the doc (with a fully charge battery and on mains power). I live with it. The problem is the machine takes about 3 minutes to boot on a good day, I seem to spend all my life waiting for it to boot.  I have started using my toshiba R830, which has identical apps installed, which boots in under a minute to work untill the W520 has "warmed up".  The W520 boot much quicker if I dont use the FPR.  the FPR seems to hang somehere every time.

Answer:Since 2 weeks, W520 wont wake from sleep in Doc.

Try to uninstall FPR, reboot then reinstall the FPR and see if it helps.

I just got my T540p and I've discovered that the display will never wake from sleep. I hear the computer beep and see the green light on the power key, but the display stays dark no matter what. I hit the keys, trackpad, etc... and nothing. This is a brand new machine and I dont want to send it back. Why wont the display come back from sleep? I am running Windows 8.1, fully updated. BTW, I thought I would try reinstalling Windows 8 from a USB drive. This computer wont boot from a USB drive either. One step forward with a great display, two steps backwards from Lenovo with a display that wont wake up and the inability to boot from an emergency USB.

Answer:T540p display wont wake from sleep

I have the same problem when sleeping. However, I do think I have a potential solution to your USB drive problem. If you have UEFI, then you will have to make your USB drive bootable under UEFI. The one you made for legacy BIOS will not work. Hope that helps.

The only other weird errors I get in my event viewer are these, and they have to do with windows search.

I had this problem and so have tons of other people looking for a way to fix it. You close your laptop lid only to discover - sometimes.. not all the time, the PC will not wake up from sleep. Hitting buttons, moving the mouse, nothing works. You wind up hard booting the system to get back in.

My solution involved checking that Sleep mode under Power Options was actually activated to begin with. People don't want the PC going blank on them so they set all options to Do Nothing under "Change what happens when I close the lid". This is the wrong thing to do. I had everything set to Do Nothing. What should have been checked was Sleep. This will put the PC into sleep mode and you can wake it up by moving the mouse.

However we don't want it to work this way. We want to close the lid and have the PC not go into sleep mode at all. Even if under "Choose when to turn off the display" and "Change when the computer sleeps" and all your power plan settings are set to "Never", some PC's will still give you a black screen when you close the lid as if your going into sleep mode. As if something is clearly not working. It's not really going into sleep mode. It's fooling you. It's wonky. I have been unable to determine the cause of this but if actually activating sleep mode fixes the problem, then so be it. The next step will be to get out your shotgun and blast the sucker - nobody wants that.

Because this sleep mode did sometimes work under "Ch... Read more

I cannot seem to get my Y550P laptop (broadcomm netlink gigabit ethernet nic) in Win 7 to wake up the computer after a power outage. This feature used to be everywhere but now i cant seem to make it work.  There is no bios option to wake on lan and the only thing i see is in Win7 NIC driver which doesnt work if windows is not running (aka power has been lost).  Is there a firmware/bio patch or a utility / procedure i can use to get remote wakeup using magic packet (WOL) to work after power has been lost? Please help as i really hate having to drive to my laptop after a power outage just to turn it back on againHomey

Answer:Lenovo wont wake on lan from a s5 (after power outage)

hey homeydagreat, could you go to the Device Manager > Network Adapters , right click the network adapter of yours.Does it have the tab call Power Management? If it does the WOL option is here.If it isnt there, could you uninstall the current driver that is installed and then go to >> reinstall the driver.

After I put the pc into the sleep mode and then try to open with on and off switch, I can't get in windows 8.1. I get no video signal (image), but the pc stays on. I've been using since 2 days a new video card and I installed the drivers from installation cd. With my previous video card, I'd not suchlike problems.

Answer:Windows 8.1 wont wake up from sleep mode!!!

Maybe it's just really sleepy? *hears drum being hit in background*

sorry...erm..yeah was too tempting.

To my knowledge there is no real clear reason as to why this happens. You would think in so many OS systems with the wake/sleep function that they would had perfect it by now huh? You may get some people suggestion checking your drivers, energy/wattage issue/etc. I personally don't believe any of that though myself. If it can operate while you are on it just fine but you turn it off and it won't come back on it sounds more like an OS issue than anything else.

I used to have the same issue with an old old Acer Aspire 5720z. I never found a real solution to it either.I truly think the only "cheaphax" here would be for you to just disable sleep mode.

You could see if this helps you any but I highly doubt it will.

Hope im putting this in the right thread.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-110US laptop with Vista.

have not had any problems with it until a few minutes ago. I was moving it so I closed the lid and unplugged the power cable with it still turned on. Whenever I do this it goes into some kind of sleep mode which I can sometimes get it to wake up from and other times I have to reboot. I couldnt get it to 'wake up' so I tried rebooting, waited a few seconds and started it back up, but it still seems to be sleeping.

It will start up and I can hear stuff moving around inside, the power button and the internet-connection button both turn on, but the internet-connection button is orange instead of blue (only does that while in sleep mode that ive seen) and the screen remains black. Also the button to toggle the touch-pad on/off lights up but it does not respond to hitting it.

Ive tried rebooting it 3-4 times but it never 'wakes up' and the screen remains black.

ACER ASPIRE 5630. Went into hibernation when battery went flat. Now wont boot. Just powers up for one second and then shuts down again. Battery charger connected. Yellow Power LED flashes on off very slowly, but battery does not appear to charge! Is it locked up in BIOS and would this prevent charging? Its so annoying as Laptop is mission crucial! :-(Many thanks in advance.Vickie

Answer:Acer 5630 hibernation -wont wake!

There is no BIOS setting that may prevent battery from charging.Maybe the battery is out of order. You may try to start your notebook without the battery, but power supply connected.

A few weeks back I upgraded my laptop and since then my computer started acting weird. My battery had until then been perfect, but now it drains during one night when computer is turned off, sleeping, closed lid etc..Also, as soon as I let it rest, close the lid or simliair it wont wake up again. The keyboard lights are on but notning except a hard reset works.Sometimes I do the hard reset and find that the internet webpages sometimes are "saved" and opens up when I power up again. The fan has also started to wound alot more recenlty. My guess is that some downloaded upgrade caused this but I dont know how to fix.I have tried downloading all the latest drivers etc.I have also tried a ton of tips from different forums regarding power settings, hybernation and such but nothing works. All of this happened right after the bad update so I know that the problem is not the battery itself..Thank you

Hello, I hope you can help me!I have this problem: When I set my notebook to sleep mode or I close my notebook (I have set "sleep" asi action after closing the notebook) it just wont wake up... I open in - nothing, I try to push the button for starting - I can hear it booting, but after few seconds the notebook is quiet again and nothing happens. All I can to do is trying to turn it on over and over again and after 10 tries it finally starts. Sometimes helps plugging or unplugging the charger.I don't have this problem with hybernation mode.I own ThinkPad E535.I hope it's Windows 7 problem or something with drivers. Or do you think it's a problem with BIOS? I hope not.Thank you for advices! (I'm sorry for my poor English, it's not my first language.)
