Preferred Solution: my laptop cant detect wifi hardware in kali linux os

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:wifi not showing kali linux

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! HP computers (most of them) are designed with Microsoft and Windows in mind. They do not officially support Linux due to lack of tests, HP propretiery and tested drivers, etc... As you probably know, Linux is different from Windows and FOSS drivers here come from the kernel itself. If wi-fi or sound adapter is not recognized OR if it does not function well, it may be due to lack of proper and tested drivers in the kernel. I can advice you try with different still supported Kernel versionsor post in the Linux community >> https://www.kali.org/community/ Kali is special Linux-based operating system not typically used by novice Linux users and not typically run on daily bases. You may also try the most common Linux-based OS Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

I recently installed Linux Mint 10 (Julia). I am very pleased with it but I'm still finding my way around it. Having found the network options, it seems unable to find my BTHomeHub2, although Windows 7 finds it perfectly well with 5 bars.Interestingly, the network icon in Linux only shows VPN connections and Wired connections, no wireless section. My computer is a Medion Akoya E4120 D with a Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter. The wireless adapter is inside the PC, attached to an internal USB port I'm guessing. So all in all, how do I get my wireless internet to work with Linux Mint 10?

Answer:Linux Mint 10 won't detect wifi hub but Win 7 will

You are using a mini-pci card adaptor - they are standard fittings on laptops and netbooks. The most likely reason for your problem is the Realtek WiFi isn't supported by Mint. However it may simply be you haven't added a WiFi Connection and if so you should right click the network icon in the task bar and from the drop down menu select Edit and from there Add a WiFi connection.I have used Mint in the past and it does normally support WiFi but you do need to set it up.

Question: Kali linux on ARM

Anyone had success with Kali Linux on a Nexus device? I've tried a number of different ways to attempt install; automatic (installer), manual, manual with lower versions, sideload, etc...

Just want a great netpen device that I can tote around to various jobs.... grrr!
always end up with bootloops (typically at app optimizing) or straight hangs (at "google"). I go through the whole process to get stock roms loaded, rooted, unlocked bootloader, twrp/supersu/busybox, fresh fastboot image of kali, etc.

Answer:Kali linux on ARM

You'd have better luck with tools that run on android. Just try to find equilivent to kali tools. Since you have a nexus device a lot of tools are supported. Some faves to get you started:

I've been on a long and exhausting journey trying to just get my computer to a workable place over the last five months and I could really use some help.

In December, my Yoga 2 11" was having a few problems: it wouldn't play sound without headphones in, the screen had a slight glitch every now and then, and the back was cracked open and missing a couple screws. When I sent it in for repair, they charged me $ that took a bit to put together... then it took a while... then it was on service parts shortage (posted in Febuary for JUNE 2), and when I kept calling and begging to have my unrepaired computer sent back, it didn't happen until two days ago I spoke to a supervisor - and yesterday it was sent back. For the record, a total of four months was wasted... for four screws.

So today I needed to hit the ground running on some backed up work, and: my computer won't connect to the internet. Nothing is shown under the drivers, and it said that windows did not detect any networking hardware. This apparently was a known issue with a windows 10 update on lenovo (here's the shocker: it was updated at the depot! so... my computer came back less functional than before.....) but it had been more than a month so I couldn't switch it back to windows 8.1 directly.

Here's what I've done today: update the drivers (all via USB) for windows 10, a system factory reset that put my computer back to a deactivated windows 8 (another problem for another day?), done a system r... Read more

I cant dual boot kali linux in my pc

Answer:I cant dual boot kali linux in my pc

Sure you can. The following tutorial explains how it can be done. Your notebook is a UEFI version with a GPT format hard disk volume. http://linuxbsdos.com/2015/01/14/how-to-dual-boot-kali-linux-1-0-9-and-windows-78-on-a-pc-with-uefi-... Just make sure that you have created a USB recovery media flash drive before you get started.  Use the HP Recovery Media creator to do that. It will tell you how much capacity the USB flash drive will need to be.

I have looked on Virtual box forums for the answer. I have a new Dell laptop with W10 64 bit. I followed the instructions for making a bootable usb with Kali Linux installed. I used Windows 32 disk manager to make the usb bootable. After the operation was completed a message box popped up to say that the usb was verified. I am trying to install Kali Linux on Virtual Box. When I plug in the usb there is a message pops up stating the disk needs formatted. Did the usb not get made properly

hi guys,

for those who doesn't know , Kali Linux (ex-Backtrack) is a powerful forensic distro based on Debian, but many of us use Ubuntu (or variants) because it is easier to handle.

so in this tutorial, i will show you how to proceed to add Kali repositories to get Kali tools in Ubuntu.

i am using Kubuntu Trusty personally so this tutorial will reflect it; you have to adjust the procedure slightly if you use Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu or/and with an older kernel

1- open your Software Center/Manager, the application that allows you to pick various softwares (Muon Discover, etc..)

2- go to each link below, click on technical details , select your ubuntu version; important , Trusty is not available yet so you have to choose Raring instead.

Code:
https://launchpad.net/~wagungs/+archive/ubuntu/kali-linux

https://launchpad.net/~wagungs/+archive/ubuntu/kali-linux1

https://launchpad.net/~wagungs/+archive/ubuntu/kali-linux2
3- click on Source tab , then "add source"

Spoiler

4- copy the links below then add them one by one in order to the source (step 3).
For example for my Kubuntu Trusty 14.04 i have to use Raring

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/wagungs/kali-linux/ubuntu raring main

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/wagungs/kali-linux1/ubuntu raring main

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/wagungs/kali-linux2/ubuntu raring main
5- close and relaunch your software center to see if the lines above are added.

Answer:[How To] add Kali Linux repositories in Ubuntu

I saw that a while ago on HF. I thought it was interesting, then one of my friend told me to not do that as I could "break my system". Apparently, doing that would basically apply Kernel patches for one Kernel to another and it could lead to system instability.

What would you recommend ?

Hi There
Im a bit of a newbie so I made some silly big mistakes. I wanted to instal Kali Linux in my hard drive to work in my laptop thinking that I could choose which system (windows or linux) to go for at the beginning of each session. Instead of booting from a CD or installing a Virtual Machine I thought it would be smarter to avoid all the USD - Virtual Box hassle....Big Mistake!.
While installing Kali I "accepted"+"accepted" without reading through and now its all doomed. I checked around and I downloaded the Windows tool Creator but it doesnt work. I have a bootable USB that gives me access to Trouble shoot but nothing has worked so far - Diskpart-cleandisk-part1-etc.
Please Help

Answer:Kaos after installing Kali Linux

Are you wanting to wipe everything and start with a fresh Windows 10? If so, when you boot from the Windows 10 USB flash drive, at the first screen where it asks for languages, press shift + F10. Then run:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean <-This will ERASE the ENTIRE hard drive/ssd!
exit
exit

Then after you select the custom install option just highlight the unallocated space and click next to let Windows set everything up.

I admit I might've missed something during assembly, but I am still pretty sure that everything was in place.I'd like to ask about about the location of the WiFi module on the motherboard and the way it is connected to the motherboard (is it integrated or does it have to be plugged in like speakers, microphone or power jack for that matter. Thanks for any kind of help. I apologize if I chose the wrong forum for the topic, I could not find aspire notebooks section.

So, I was trying to dual boot my laptop Asus K42f with opertating system windows 7 and klai Linux. Unfortunately I formatted my Hard drive while installing Linux. And now I can not find my OS windows 7 and the datas on my hard drive. Does anyone have any idea, how to recover my hards drive and OS windows 7?

Answer:Recovering Hard Drive on Kali Linux

As for the data, you might recover it using recovery software. There are numerous free recovery programs. Recuva is one that is pretty popular. As for the operating system, you are going to have to clean install.

First rule. Data you do not backup is data you do not care about AND you should expect to lose said data. If you care about this data, you make multiple backups.

Second rule. Always make a backup image of the hard disk prior to doing any partitioning, dual booting, etc. If something goes wrong, it takes all of 5~10min to restore the image and you are right back where you started.

X1 Carbon Gen4- Keep running into errors trying to dual boot on this computer. After trying for a few days, I found some guides and while not much I didn't know already came out of them, I was able to find a few useful suggestions. Still running into some issues, mainly GRUB related. Hard drive failed to recognize the new partition a few times, but mainly GRUB related. Anyone able to give their step-by-step guide, including BIOS changes to help me get this machine to dual-boot Win 10 Pro and Linux? Tired of having to run it from a flash drive and would rather not run it in a VM. I might be getting rid of the computer anyway and going back to a MacBook Pro. Used this computer 10 hours or less and had to send it in for repair. Got it back (new system board and CPU), same problems... sent out again and they replaced the fan. Still getting random 100% disk/CPU usage at times and the idle temps just aren't stable. Very disappointed that this was suppose to be one of the best business-class laptops around and I had to have it repaired twice in less than 2 weeks. I don't trust the Lenovo techs after this. I honestly just want my money back but I doubt that will happen.

can I use these disks? will they work. (I cant afford new software right now). and also could I use a HD out of other computer that had the exact same windows 7 disks installed on?
Thank you in advance;

Answer:loaded kali linux want to go back to windows 7

Usually Dell discs are customized version of Windows. Don't know if it would work on a regular PC. But if you have the Certificate of Authenticity with the Activation Key ( usually a sticker on the machine) , you can try that disc.

If it doesn't work, you can legally download the Windows ISO DVD image file for Windows 7 from here:

http://www.howtogeek.com/186775/how-to-download-windows-7-8-and-8.1-installation-media-legally/

Then you can burn the ISO image to a DVD using a program like Imgburn, a free utility, from here: http://www.imgburn.com/

A hard drive with Win 7 already installed will not work in another computer, that is because Windows is installed / customized to the CPU and motherboard chip set of that PC.

Hi Sir(s)/Maam(s). Can you pls help me? So i tried to install a Kali Linux rolling in my HP Probook Laptop pre-installed with a Windows 7 ultimate 32bit. I googled the machine of my laptop and it says it can support 64 bit. Then i followed instructions on how to (dual boot) Kali Linux with Windows 7. so i followed the instructions only that since the instructions written in the website: You are being redirected... showed a portion Using a tool "Gparted". This did not show up while i opened "Kali Live"(as in the instructions), and i thought to myself maybe it ddnt show an option - "gparted" bcause the kali they were using to install is an old kali while i'm installing a new 2016.1 kali rolling 64bit. so i went ahead and clicked graphical install. so the installation went on(Kali Linux) to an option where it says - Partition Disk(so my thoughts were correct i thought) then i went to a partition where it said "Separate/home partition" so i thought maybe it'll separate my windows 7 partition automatically. then it displayed the partitions it made so i thought maybe i was doing everything right.(as shown here You are being redirected...). And then installation was complete and it requested to reboot so i went and rebooted it. now i was expecting to show options where i can choose where to reboot Kali Linux or Windows 7. If you were attempting to install Linux in a dual boot environment, it would appear that your Linux installation has corrupted the Windows boot loader. You may be able to resurrect your Windows environment

I just can't find out why this isn't working.  My preparations:Windows installed origanally Installed the 64-bit version of Kali linuxcreated a bootable usb with Rufus (even tried other programs)Actually booted from the USB and it would load the Kali linux installtion screenWent through the installation proccess (up to the last screen where it says to take out your installation disk) This is what I want, I want Kali linux to be on the M.2 SSD and Windows to stay on the HDD. I really don't care about the GRUB bootloader (if i can use it great please say how) as long as I can boot to both OS's in the boot options. Once the installation is installed on the M.2 SSD I can't boot to it, it comes up with a screen that says there isn't an OS on this drive. This is all done in Legacy mode, my USB won't boot from UEFI mode. I have read articles that have said I need to install Kali on UEFI (or Legacy) mode depending on the other OS, but they have to be on the same boot setting.  Can anyone help with this. Where did I mess up. Is this just an HP Zbook problem?  Thanks in advance for everyone's input!

Now it only shows Kali Linux. . Did i delete my windows? i had so much important data there... Can someone ls help me? P... Read more

I have a laptop with win 7 professional. I have a 500 gb hdd with four partitions, c,d,e,f. Windows was installed in c.
As i wanted to install linux kali i needed a partition. I used gparted tool in live linux to create a partition 'h' drive of e drive, as mentioned in tutorial for linux dual boot. Then i proceded for hdd installation of it. But when it came to partition whr to install there was no h drive over there. So i quit the installation an booted in windows. Even in windows h drive dint showed up. So i opend partition manager and it showed there as unallocated. So i formated it. And then it showed as a drive in my computer. So i restarted again and proceded with linux installation. And again this time when reached to install on a partition, h drive was missing. This time my f and c drive was also missing. It showed only two drives d and e. And some how e drive had the capaciy of both e and f drive. I closed the installation again and restarted .. and now i am stuck at the boot . Bothing happens. Only a black screen comes with a cursor blincking. Nothing happens after it.
Tried repairing win 7 with dvd, but nothing happened. In windows recovery option there is no os to select.

Kindly help.

Answer:Help need... Lost boot sector while partitioning for linux kali

Drive letters can change in boot mode, this is normal. Judge the partition by its size and any label you gave.

In this case however if you saw differently sized partitions during the install, something must have gone wrong with your partitioning using the Linux (not Windows) tool.

Now you need help recovering Windows, so let's use Windows tools.

Using Diskpart or Partition Wizard CD as shown in this tutorial confirm that the 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) or Windows 7 (if you don't) is Partition Marked Active.

Then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts.

Next post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image telling us what you'd like to do, and so we can confirm the configuration.

If this fails post back a camera snap of Partition Wizard drive map showing all listings and what you think is installed on each partition.

Bought this on a whim after spending the better part of a night a few days back learning about wifi penetration testing / WPA2 / WPS attacks and having all kinds of trouble with my current adapters. Sadly, since getting it earlier today it's just more of the same.

I know the basics of how to use aircrack / etc to record a WPA2 handshake, but for the moment I'm using wifite to save on typing. In so far as I know it calls all the same tools anyway, just less typing for me.

The router I'm attacking is owned by me, so nothing illegal here. I'm just playing around out of curiosity. It's actually an old Linksys WRT54G I set up just for this purpose, and it's ~5 feet from the PC I'm using, so signal strength is very good -- reported around 86 dB. The client I'm using to connect to it and deauth is my phone, so it's similarly close.

The script runs without error, but when it gets to the point where it's deauthing and listening for the handshake it just loops indefinitely. The phone is kicked from the network and reconnects, so there is a handshake to listen for... it just never actually gets it. The WRT54G has WPS disabled so Pixie Dust and bruteforce WPS attacks aren't valid and I skip them when attacking it.

The adapter works otherwise -- it'll connect to my "real" router and to my phone if I set up tethering on it -- but it's almost like it's not actually switching modes or something? My understand... Read more

Even tho my friends told me to send in my laptop to the manufacture to have a full diagnosis. But still I really want to know what happened to my laptop b4 i send it in.

The problem with my laptop is sumtimes it won't detect my hard drive or dvd-rom. but sumetime it does.
And when i run diagnostic software for my system, it shows i have some serious low HDD read/write speed.

can any1 plz tell me wat's wrong with my laptop?
I checked HDD, it is fine, didn't find any bad sector or anything.

Answer:Laptop Won't detect hardware devices..

Sounds like the motherboard is a bit dodgy. Is the HDD IDE or SATA? I'm guessing something is screwed with the IDE controller. Might be the cable, if they're on the same cable.

Good morning. Betweent 2am and 3am this morning my laptop restarted. However when it booted back up I could not get on the internet. I checked my networks and no wifi was there. Now it wasn't like when you use airplane mode and you get the msg that networks cannot be detected. In my case that doesn't even exist. The computer is acting as if I could never get online via wifi. I can only get online using my ethernet cable which isnt ideal for me since I need to be on the go often. I checked my device manager and I see my ethernet and a few other adapters but not the one for wifi. I restarted my computer many times. I went to hp recovery and reinstalled my driver for the network card to no success. Sadly my warrenty had expired last month. I need all the help I can get.

Hello all, I have this J8B81PA#ACJ product named laptop, I had this wifi issue since I have been using the laptop but then I installed updated drivers on Win 8.1 and wifi issue was resolved. Later when upgraded to Win10, the issue began like Wifi signals disappear or suddenly my wifi network doesnt appear at all. After few days updating the drivers from MS resolved this. It has been quite a while and again this issue has begun, my wifi network doesnt appear even if I connect wifi adapter to it the network doesnt show up, whereas all my near by networks are available. I even tried resetting my wifi router to see if my Wifi router has some issues but the problem seems to be in laptop itself. Currently, I either need to use the internet by LAN or by USB/Bluetooth tethering from my Android mobile. Hereby, I look for a final solution to this recurring problem of Wifi. Kindly let me know inputs needed from my side.   Hoping for a help. Thanks in advance! Nirmal

Dear all,

My ASUS laptop (i7-4700HQ; windows 8.1 installed couple of months ago) always shows the available Wifi connections, including those of the neighbours.

Today my grandson (1,5 years old) played on the PC and afterwards my laptop did not detect any Wifi connections. Other devices (laptops and smartphones) do show the Wifi signals perfectly). Printscreens and additional information.docxSee printscreens for additional information about the wireless adaptor, pop-up and laptop.

I already tried the following:
- Turn off laptop - turn off modem - turn on modem - turn on laptop (twice)
- Switch off and on the wireless button (fn+f2), turning the wireless signal off and on again (5 times)
- Close and reopen the laptop screen (10 times)
- Starting and following the troubleshooting - this did not give any suggestions or findings (5 times)

My feeling is that it is a simple solution, since it always worked fine and my grandson pushed a couple of buttons. I don't dare to Refresh Windows, as my apps will be uninstalled, right? Or will this be an effective solution possibly?

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Marieke

OK,
My config is HP G6 1075 SA with W7 Home Premium 64 bit pre-installed. It was working well until last week when I decided to install Debian Linux. I am no N00B to Linux and have installed it probably 100s of times. Debian installed and booted well but Windows BSODed with an error 0x0000225 cannot access drive. I formatted C and attempted to reinstall Windows 7 but it is unable to detect the HDD. I accept terms of license and move on to the point of choosing disks but nothing shows up. (There is an option to choose drivers. Where do I locate them? The HP website isn't helpful and I can't even find my product let aside the drivers)

I have already tried :
1. Partitioning an NTFS file system in Debian. Doesnt show.
2. Deleting a partition in Debian and attempt to see the free space in W7 Installer. Didn't work.
3. Try to do the BIOS setting thing (Change SATA option from AHCI to compatible or something). I could find no such setting in BIOS. The BIOS was severely limited with only option of switching on fan.

What do I do ?
The chipset is Intel HM55 if that helps and harddrive is SATA 5400 rpm 500GB.

Answer:W7 installer doesn't detect SATA after Linux, Linux works smoothly

All Linux code must be deleted using the CLEAN ALL command. As you have had linux on the HD you need do a Clean all & full format.

Do a full clean & full format in command prompt.
1) Boot DVD & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)
DISKPART : At PC Startup
2) Boot DVD, & Command Prompt at Startup
(for command prompt)

Type in command line
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (win HD)
CLEAN ALL
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1

When I boot up my laptop I would say it's a coin flip whether or not it detects my WiFi card on boot--I can tell whether or not it has been detected on boot because the WiFi symbol (instead of the LAN) symbol will appear in the bottom right corner of the home/login screen. When the card is detected the WiFi works PERFECTLY fine. This problem started happening when I used and uninstalled Technitium (a program that allows you to easily change your WIFI card's MAC address.) The reason I was using this program was so I could keep using an airport's complimentary free 30 min WiFi service for a few hours without having to pay--surely I've been paying for it in problems the last few months. Could anyone offer any insight as to how I can fix this? You guys have been my heroes since I was a kid.

Every time I restart or turn on my ASUS U36JC laptop (functioning on Windows 7) after shutting it down, I cannot connect to any WiFi networks because it tells me that no connections are available, when I am 100% positive that there ARE networks.

I temporarily address this issue by going to Start >> Device Manager >> Network Adapters >> Highlight "Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter" >> Uninstall >> Scan for hardware changes (which reinstalls the adapter) >> Problem temporarily solved, but passwords for wireless connections I've previously connected to are wiped out.

This isn't solving the problem because every time I shut down my computer, the issue comes back when I turn it back on. I have tried to reinstall the WiFi driver from ASUS but to no avail.

I am a complete dummy when it comes to these hardware / software things. Could someone help? Thanks so much!

Hi frnds,
My Laptop cant detect any wifi connections.I have already tried Updating Network Adapters, its all Up-to-Date.
My Problem in brief - Few days ago I downloaded a Nvidia gfx update for my Card (Geforce GT 720M 2GB) with Win8.1(updated using a update previously downloaded from Win8 to 8.1). After Installing Nvidia driver update all my Games was unable to run,so i searched for it, I found that my Intel drivers are out of date as i was using latest Nvidia drivers,so I tried to download Intel drivers but the installation says that these drivers r not compatible with my device(i dont know wtf happened), Then I shutdown my Laptop.

Next Day I started my pc, I shows a blue screen just before the Login page of WIndows, Its Says..."Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (100% completed)"
under which error was given - VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys)".
I waited for 15min but the blue sceen was stilll there. I restarted and it was again blue...I started using f8, recovery etc...login to system somehow...then got its solution by something to do with memory sump setting.and now its all gone...

But my games were still not running and so many programs stopped working showing "BEX" as error and after few days I wasnt able to connect/identify to my wifi hotspot. even newly installed games wasn't running...

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should now open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

My laptop has been running windows 10 very well for the past month. About 2 weeks ago my computer stop detecting wifi devices. just last week my computer has decided to stop detecting ethernet at random times. sometimes it lasts for 15 min. sometimes it lasts for hours. I do sometimes have internet for 15 min after startup but then it just loses conection. i have tried updating my wifi drivers but it says they are up to date. PLEASE HELP.

Answer:laptop will not detect wifi anymore and ethernet not detected at times

Hi How old is your router?? They wear out just like all electrical products. I had a Motorola that was 4 years old causing the problems you're having. I bought a NETGEAR and no more problems. If your router is very old, it could be time to replace it.
Most stores have a two week return. If the new router acts the same, return it and try to find other solutions!
You could have a internet adapter going bad!!

Please tell me how to get Windows XP Pro to auto-detect my drivers & utilities on my Dell computer like Linux has done during the installation-process?

So far, Windows XP Pro hasn't auto-detected any of those things (listed below), like Linux did almost immediately after I installed it on my Dell Laptop computer:

• Ethernet controller
• Multimedia Audio Controller
• Network Controller
• PCI Modem
• Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
ALSO: Please tell me if I downloaded drivers from that Dell computer onto a CD would that CD have to be a "data CD" in order for my computer to detect the drivers I have burned on the disc? or would that CD have to be a non-Data CD (example: "Bootable CD"), which runs the programs and installs the drivers automatically after it's inserted in the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM)?

Answer:Solved: Linux distros auto-detect drivers > So, why won't WinXP Pro auto-detect my dr

Form a company to write a Windows clone, and include the drivers for all the hardware.

You just need a data CD to transport the drivers, or even a USB FLASH disk...

Hi.

I have a pesky little brother who keeps switching off the WiFi switch on my laptop when I leave home without some downloads on. He does so that he can hog up all the bandwidth for himself.

Is there any way I could disable the WiFi switch so that my WiFi stays on at all times? I have a Lenovo Y560.

Thanks.

Answer:Disable WiFi hardware switch on laptop

If he can't turn off the WiFi what will stop him from just powering the system down?

There may be a way to catch the key using AutoHotkey. You would have to have a script running that echos the vk key codes as each key is pressed. Once you know the code for the WiFi key you can just intercept it with a one line script.

But he could still just close the program running the script or hold down the power button.

i just received my new PC with a brand new Gigabyte UD3H Wifi motherboard and a HD7950 GPU.

I installed all the drivers available from the Gigabyte website for some reason the wifi function simply does not work. Also, the screen plugged into the 7950 works fine but the other screen connected into the motherboard gets the message "no signal detected".
How can i fix this?

'Hello, this is my first post here, so I am sorry if anything is confusing.

The reason why I signed up in this forum is s I can seek help fron those that might know more about computer than me, in order to solve my problem

A few days ago, my laptop was working perfectly fine. But then, I turned my computer off, the next day, everything started up as normal, with Windows 7 Home Premium still in the backgrounds when I am logging in but then, the network connecter won't automatically start. So I was left without internet for a bit. Whats more, I noticed that the taskbar, which was always semi-transparent before, is now white. As well as all the title bars of the programs that I open, turned into blue!

Is computer has always ran Windows 7 as far as I am aware, but e way the taskbar, and the title bars, are behaving, reminds me of windows xp.

I first tried to look up how to solve my wifi problem. I manually opened the network connecter in the control panel, and tried to "Connect to a network". But it didn't detect any wifi servers! Which is odd since I had always used the one my family used, and I am using wifi on that server at this moment!

When I tried to use troubleshoot on my "internet connections", it first showed me that the issue was "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" but then every other time I tried to troubleshoot again, it doesn't show any problems detected

And with the problem of the taskbar, I tried to search solution... Read more

When I tried to use troubleshoot on my "internet connections", it first showed me that the issue was "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" but then every other time I tried to troubleshoot again, it doesn't show any problem... Read more

Circa 2013 laptop (originally came with Win 7) that I've upgraded with an Atheros AR9285 mini PCIe b/g/n card.

It WAS working just fine until a couple of days ago, suddenly, no WiFi networks detected. I know that's not true because with other computers and phones all the hotspots are still active and in working order.

I assume some recent update to 10 has broken something with networking yet again. Fortunately ethernet still works but I need WiFi going for an upcoming trip.

I have not had this much trouble with networking with a PC operating system since MS-DOS! Previous versions of Windows at times could have tricky issues getting networking to work, but once success was achieved they tended to *stay working forever* unlike Windows 10's initial problem with many computers (on WiFi and/or Ethernet) that took MS almost exactly a year to produce a fix for.

I'll see what it does after KB4020102 is done downloading and installing. Hopefully it contains a fix for whatever the last updates screwed up.

Linux Malware Detect
Current Release:
http://www.rfxn.com/downloads/maldetect-current.tar.gz http://www.rfxn.com/appdocs/README.maldetect
http://www.rfxn.com/appdocs/CHANGELOG.maldetect

Description
Linux Malware Detect (LMD) is a malware scanner for Linux released under the GNU GPLv2 license, that is designed around the threats faced in shared hosted environments. It uses threat data from network edge intrusion detection systems to extract malware that is actively being used in attacks and generates signatures for detection. In addition, threat data is also derived from user submissions with the LMD checkout feature and from malware community resources. The signatures that LMD uses are MD5 file hashes and HEX pattern matches, they are also easily exported to any number of detection tools such as ClamAV.

The driving force behind LMD is that there is currently limited availability of open source/restriction free tools for Linux systems that focus on malware detection and more important that get it right. Many of the AV products that perform malware detection on Linux have a very poor track record of detecting threats, especially those targeted at shared hosted environments.

The threat landscape in shared hosted environments is unique from that of the standard AV products detection suite in that they are detecting primarily OS level trojans, rootkits and traditional file-infecting viruses but missing the ever increasing variety of malware on the user account level which serve... I'm trying to use Linux on my machine. I've tried several different kernels and I get the same results. The kernel boots up fine, but when I get to the command prompt, the keyboard does not work. Is there a bios setting I need to adjust in order to recognize the USB ports?

Answer:Linux does not detect my USB keyboard

@Jjjet Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Some older BIOSs have an option to enable USB legacy settings, and sometimes, those have to be enabled in order to detect some USB devices, including mice and keyboards. The bigger problem is that HP does not provide Linux drivers (except in very rare conditions) and without those, your PC is not going to function at all well. Your best bet for Linux support is to contact the support forum for the Linux distro you are using. Folks there will be familiar with driver and hardware problems and are in a much better position to assist you.Good Luck

Hello! Registered because I really need help.

My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Answer:Solved: Laptop cannot detect home network, can detect others

Huh ok nevermind, I reset my router, blabla, it's working again. I guess it's solved?

Hi, I'm new registering to this forum, but a regular reader.

I have a problem with an old computer that I just upgraded the RAM of. After installing the new memory, Windows would restart by itself every 5 seconds. I thought it was an incompatibility problem, so I removed the new RAM and put back the old one.

Now, Windows would not start up, not even in Safe Mode, so I was told to use the install CD to repair the OS. Now, the OS starts up fine, and both the old (256MB) and the new (512MB) RAMs are working fine together, but now, the computer doesn?t detect the built-it Ethernet device.

Im not talking about the driver, the Windows device manager simply can't find it. I decided to test it with PCLINUXOS as a liveCD, but it can?t detect the Ethernet network device either.

Please help!

Answer:Neither Windows or Linux can detect Ethernet

I solved the problem by reactivating the LAN device in the BIOS. I don't know why it was disabled in the first place, but I hope it helps someone in the future.

I have tried installing Mandrake 10 and Redhat Fedora and neither of them will detect my usb keyboard and mouse. Only PS2 will work. I have tried 3 different usb mice and 2 keyboards. Mandrake would never complete an install as well. It would lock up at different intervals. I got Fedora installed and everything works okay except for not being able to use a USB keyboard and mouse. It also will not detect my two external usb hard drives.

How can something call itself an operating system when it won't even detect a usb mouse?

Answer:Linux won't detect USB keyboard and mouse. Why?

Good call there, chief. Do you consider dos(disk OPERATING SYSTEM) to be an operating system? AFAIK, dos doesn't support usb mouses. A little more information would be good. What motherboard are you using? Most modern distributions come with quite a few kernel modules compiled and they usually can autodetect your hardware pretty well. It sounds like you might just have an unsupported usb controller or something.

have a laptop installed with Linux and working fine. Now on trying to install Win Xp, just before formatting on installation of XP, it shows the message Harddisk not detected. This is a Sata harddisk. Please advise what to do in order to install XP on it.

Answer:Help! Xp doesnt detect Harddisk but Linux does

The problem is the drive being a SATA and not an EIDE.

The XP CD doesn't have support for SATA drives.

That's one reason why people with newer computers with a SATA drive and Vista who try to downgrade to XP have a problem doing it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I've never done it, so I can't give you the steps for doing it.

You need to obtain the SATA drivers and slipstream them into the XP CD, or you need to copy the SATA drivers to a floppy disk to use in a floppy drive - if your computer has one.

After the unsuccessful recovery and system restore, I decided to wipe the partitions and do a fresh install of windows 8 from windows 7. At first my HDD with windows 8 crashed which was followed by windows 7 going corrupt. To make the backup of my files, I booted with Slax but to my surprise it didn't show a couple of partitions. Now, this is very irritating and my PC hasn't started for a couple of days.

What can I do to make the backup. I have the windows 8 DVD but it doesn't install on the my drive. Says drive is dynamic or something.

Please help me.

has that resoved the issue or not
it maybe the signal is broadcasting on channel 12/13

can you connect the pc directly to the router with a cable and then
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

I dual booted my machine with Vista and XP Pro. I want to use an old sound card that I know is not supported on Vista, but works in XP

How do I keep Vista from trying to install that card when I boot? The problem is, when it detects the new card, it completely uninstalls the original internal Realtek driver, so I have no audio. I tried to reinstall the realtek drivers, but everytime I reboot in Vista, they disappear and I`m back to square one.

Any idea?

Answer:New hardware detect?

Never mind, fixed it. BIOS settings for onboard audio was on "Auto", so when it found a new sound card, it disabled the onboard. Just set it on "enabled", rebooted, and Vista didn`t even tried to detect the new hardware.

hello guys, when i boot my pc it doesnt detect the monitor, the keyboard, and nothing. The screen is just black. the pc keeps beeping..and it wont stop. after a few reboots it works again though, everything is detected, except after it boots it goes right into the bios automatically. Sometimes it randomly reboots and some .exe applications would crash during normal use. Also the pc is really noisy and its not stable at all...like when i play games framerates drop from time to time (although this is not very frequent, its still a sign of something going wrong)

I keep my graphics drivers updated at all times....so i dont think the graphic card is causing the problem. I think some hardware might be dying in my pc ( someone suggested hard drive before since i get a LOAD of file corruptions when i run diskcheck). Please help if you can, thanks a lot.

here are my specs if it matters :

ASUS mobo (socket A)
AMD sempron 2600+ overclocked
512MB DDR333 RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 128MB
some random 80GB harddrive

Answer:pc won't detect any hardware at all

isn't a ATI Radeon 9550 series a 256mb instead of a 128mb
i used to use one and i was just wondering.

try to find out wat kind of HD it is!

try any of these options :

(((GROUND URSELF BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING)))
-use a different Power Supply(Short the green and black wires with a paper clip)
-reseat ur video card and RAM (if that doesnt work use default mobo video)
-if u hav a manual reset the CMOS by pulling out the battery in the mobo for couple minutes, then use that manual to reconfigure the settings (if the PC boots up)
-reassemble everything from barebone (remember to ground urself before touching anything)
-check if there are any beeps when u power it up
-check if the capacitors ar poping up in the mobo(if so replace them or get a new mobo)
-check if the heatsink is properly seated
-boot with only the CPU(fan&heatsink), PS, RAM, monitor plugged in the rest leave it unplugged
-might be dead BIOS, flash it or use hotflashing or agent smith's in stickies. (Software)
-might be bad grounding try a different power cable
- if u OC ur PC put the setting to default
- u might of shorted the mobo or ESD has happened

and a, u said ur Pc beep(s):

My last entry is probably the most important.

So what I need to do is somehow get XP to properly detect these devices & launch the hardware wizard, not just give a couple of info balloons off the task bar.

Can anyone help me here ?

I've looked all over the net, and I am considering Geek Squad, but I'm a little hesitant shelling out $80. I got a preowned Vista Gateway computer from my uncle, who said he decommissioned it. I don't have a clue what he did, but apparently I am now missing my networking driver.. at first I couldn't connect to the Internet. It kept saying there was no networking hardware or adapter detected or installed. I looked in my device manager, and there's no network anything in there... I also discovered this morning that I cannot delet anything. Once it begins the process of sending the file(s) to the recycle bin, it goes nowhere; the transfer speed remains at 0 kbps/sec and never changes.

I can't delete anything and I can't use the Internet, both problems I need to resolve in a hurry.

OK guys!!

I have dug through all of the forums as well as googled and come up with SQUAT. I have an old Dell XPS 700 tower that was given to me and I am trying to put my own XP pro install on it with no luck. I have used nLiteOS to get past a BSOD only to get another one during the CD install. All of the driver tools I see on this site have to do AFTER your OS is installed but not to a naked tower! Is there a bootable ISO disc that can detect hardware on a naked tower so I can google the drivers? I installed Ubuntu on it and it works fine, or seems to. Of course, Ubuntu is more recent than XP.

I found one entry (I think here) where a user removed the video and/or other cards and THEN installed XP, THEN added them after. I haven't tried this yet, because I think it may be a Motherboard chipset issue. I even tried Driver BASE and user the uTorrent download to no avail.

I have a 64 bit CPU, 1 gig of RAM a dual DVI video card with PHYSX and it is a Dell XPS 700 tower. If someone solves this for me, I'll owe you a favor!!!!

Answer:bootable ISO to detect all hardware with no OS?

Is this the SATA driver you slipstreamed? You might want to upgrade the BIOS if you have a floppy drive.

Hello, this is my first post here, Im hoping someone may know why the following is happening...

I recently flashed my bios to the latest version. Everything went very smoothly and the system is running great. The only problem I ran into is that now my operating system (Vista x32 Ultimate) no longer is able to detect my RAM or CPU when I view them in System. This is rather strange to me as the OS rates my system hardware 5.9. I would not be bothered by this except that I do a substantial amount of gaming on this system. Many new games (such as Hellgate: London and Crysis SP Demo) scan the system hardware and will lock the user out of advanced graphics settings if the OS returns a hardware speed value below the recommended specifications. Since Vista is reporting that I have a 0.0ghz processor and 0mb of ram, I am unable to crank my games up now

My question is, does anyone here know how to force the OS to recognize my hardware so that it is properly displayed in system. (I am aware that Vista x32 can only detect 2.85gb of ram, regardless of if you have more installed). My system is reporting 0.0mb.

My specifications are as follows:
QX6800 @ 2.93
4GB DDR2 PC9200 @ 1150mhz (2.4V)
8800 Ultra 768mb SLI OC (630mhz)
Asus Striker Extreme BIOS: 1305 (latest)
Vista Ultimate x32

Thanks for any and all help guys!
Aaron
