Preferred Solution: Delete a document

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

how i can get delete document from recycle bin

Answer:how i can get delete document from recycle

That is quite hard to do, but it is possible as long as you have not saved any files after deletion, your HDD is not fragmented too much and you understand a bit about file management.http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/fr...You can try this, but save AND install it on a different Partition, HDD or external memory device.

I doubt that I can post this question here but I assume it'll be removed if not.

I have an HP printer, 2540, wireless printer. Works fine.

I started to print a pdf file. Because it was a large file I choose the 'booklet' option, which prints 4 pages on one side, then, when everything of the even numbers (I think, not sure) has printed, you will get a message on the pc telling you how to replace the already printed pages in the printer so it can print on the backsides.

When I saw the first batch I decided I didn't like it. So when the message with instructions on how to replace the already printed paper, I went in the printer's menu, highlighted the name of the document and did 'cancel'. In this printer menu it now said it was 'deleting' the document. But it didn't. I waited about half an hour. I turned the printer off and back on. I closed the document. But still the printer menu said 'deleting'.

I opened the document up again, changed the settings for the printer (as in one sided, normal size) and accidentally hit 'print'. I then noticed that - in the printer menu - the 'new' document showed up above the one that still said it was deleting. But it still didn't print. I went in the print menu again and highlighted the new document and did 'cancel' and it did cancel it.

But the old document is still sitting there, 'deleting'. I can not get past that. Any suggestions wo... Read more

Answer:Cannot delete partly printed document from cue

There's a way to force these to delete, if you don't mind a little typing. You need to open a command prompt by running cmd.exe. If you're unsure of how to do that, tell me which operating system you're using and I can walk you through that. This should open up a black window, and you need to type in the following commands sequentially, hitting the Enter key after each command.
net stop spooler
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\* /q /f /s

net start spooler
The first command stops the printing service, allowing you to carry out the second command, which deletes any jobs in the queue. The last command re-starts the printing service, and you can try running a test print. Once that's all done, you can just close the black window.

Please excuse my ignorance in advance. I have been totally left behind by the speed of the technology. I defragged my hard drive and the report stated that this file would not defrag. McAfee\MBK\Exceptions.txt. I have found out that the MBK is a McAfee Backup folder, but the text file is huge (6,012,106KB). It is so large that I was even afraid that I didn't have an application to open a file that large. I know that this is a text file, but am unsure of why it won't defrag. or if I can safely delete it. I do know that I want it gone if possible. Any help or info that can be given would be greatly appreciated. This is the msg. that I got when I checked on this file - Displays the path and name of the most fragmented files on the volume and the number of fragments, those files are in. If you use these files frequently, there might be a large impact on your system performance. Many Thanksozhawk

Answer:Is It Safe To Delete This Text Document

Hello ozhawk,

The file in question is not that large, it is around the same size as an audio file. The probable reason for it not being defragged is that mcafee is using the file to perform operations. If you want the file gone, you will most likely have to remove mcafee and install an appropriate substitute for mcafee.

I created a document in the Works 9 word processor that I now wish to delete. Every time I try to do so, it tells me: "the action can't be completed because the file is open in another program". I don't have any other program running when it says this and it happens even after I shut the computer down. Also, it won't let me open the file or rename it either. I tried copying it into another location and I get the same result when trying to do anything with it. This is the only file (so far) that I've ever had this problem with. Answer:Can't delete document from print queue

Often you need to 'cancel all documents' a number of times to clear it out.If that does not work, unplug the printer for 10 seconds and while the printer is doing its self test you need to restart the computer. This is a sure way of clearing the 'deleting' document that if stuck out of the print spooler. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I use Office 2013 with Windows 7. Today I started a new document and half way through using it the
delete key stopped working - so did the back arrow delete key. On other documents and in Excel it worked as usual.
I tried bringing up the desktop keyboard and it woudn`t work on this document either.

I assume I had inadvertently altered something with keyboard shortcuts and wasted a lot of time looking on the web - found something about looking on Tools and Options but I can`t find these on Office 2013.

In desperation I tried copying the text on to another document - at first that seemed to have got round the problem, but it came back - same thing - so I started writing to Tech Guy.

Thought I had better try the copying and pasting thing again before I sent this, and this time it has continued to work.

Out of curiosity - and in case I do the same thing again - has anyone any idea what I did, or if there is any other way of cancelling this ?.

Is there a mechanism in Word 2010 (and also Excel, perhaps) which allows me to DELETE the document I'm currently viewing?

I'd imagine it would be under the "File" menu if it existed, but I've not found it so far.

An example of its use: I prepared a document of things to take to a reunion. My PC was still on when I got home, displaying the list (which I'd saved, as I went along). I didn't know what I'd called the document, and I wasn't certain where I'd filed it, but I know I wanted to delete it.

Answer:How to delete the current document in Word 2010?

Of course you can't delete open files!
But you can hover over file->open to see the last files you opened. Open the one you want. Do a fake "save as" to see the folder it's in.

Now you know the file name and location, so delete it in windows file explorer

A search may not find it, even by displaying hidden files ( go into Control Panel/Folder options/view/ & select 'show hidden folders & files') but the file you want is located in c:/users/<yourname>/Appdata/Roaming/Microsoft/Templates. Rename it from normal.dotm to normal.old (you can delete it but I always err on the side of safety), then start Word and it should open with a blank document."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." XP-SP3 : I think i have 2 separate problems here. The first one is a firefox problem about deleted bookmarks reappearing & each days history disappearing after a reboot. I'm working on that. Don't know if it has anything to do with the 2nd one, maybe. I delete programs that i've downloaded in docs & after a reboot, they magically reappear & files i save in docs since this started, disappear. Also, my desktop icons are being switched around after i've put them in order after a reboot. I use firefox 3.6.18 to download these programs, so it may have something to do with the programs reappearing in docs/downloads after a reboot, who knows. I have alot of security programs on here that are all compatible with each other. This isn't a malware problem either as i have run scans & nothing comes up. Malware/trojans try to steal info, not move your icons around & make files reappear. I just added memory 5 days ago from Crucial Memory, although i doubt that has anything to do with this. These problems just started a few days ago. I can't figure out whats going on. Never had these problems before. THANX for your time/help anyone.

My printer tray icon shows that there is a document deleting, but it isn't happening. I have clicked on "Cancel" and also "Cancel all documents" and nothing changes. My printer is HP Deskjet 4260.

Earlier tonight I clicked on a page that I wanted to print and it came out with half of the words missing their top half in many lines but not all.

I want to get rid of this Word document that says it's deleting but isn't, so that I can try printing again. Perhaps these problems are related. I have clicked on printers and faxes, chosen my printer, clicked on preferences and all are correct.

I have unplugged my printer a couple of times from the power cord and from the computer. I have put in a new black cart. I have tried printing a document from a flash drive and the same thing happens...half lines.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

Could anyone help: I have hundreds of .doc files that all begin with similar text, exactly 102 lines that I need to delete from the beginning of each file. Is there a macro that could do this?

Thanks!

Answer:Word macro: Delete 102 lines from beginning of document

I don't do Word macros but ... did you try recording something yourself?

I did, and got:

Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory
Selection.MoveDown Unit:=wdLine, Count:=4, Extend:=wdExtend
Selection.Cut

Obviously that's for just the first 4 lines. And the next thing will be where the docs are all stored. (?)

I have a one-page document with a footer. Word has added a second blank page with a footer that I cannot get rid of.

I followed the advice on MS Office help page: open the document, click view, click normal layout, click paragraph icon, delete last paragraph icon. But, when I do this, nothing happens. The last paragraph icon will not delete.

Does anyone know a simple way to delete the blank page? I tried removing the footer from the blank page, but that also removed the footer from the first page.

Answer:Solved: Delete blank page at end of document in Word 2002

Hi loverboy (I've always wanted to say that ),
Could be a couple of different things. First, try clicking the paragraph icon and using backspace instead of delete.

Is the content on the first page really close to the end of the page? If so, try changing the top and bottom margins (File/Page Setup). Make them both 0.2 or something like that. Did that fix the problem? If so, change them to something more reasonable (like maybe 0.75).

You can also highlight the paragraph character and change the font on just that character to 2pt. That will likely make it small enough to fit with the first page.

If none of those options work, you could have a page or section break that you're not aware of. Go to Tools/Options and on the View tab under Formatting Marks, check All. When you go back to your document, if you see a dotted line that says "break", highlight it and delete it.

Let us know if any of that helps.

Hi,

I have a 20 page document, each page has an identical layout with a mixture of text and tables.

I am running a mailmerge on the document which works successfully. My problem is that after the mail merge has completed, I am left with about 15 blank pages per record as their is not always data to merge for every page for each record. Does that make sense? I am printing the final document when the mail merge completes but I dont want to print lots of "blank" templates where no data was merged for that record.

Does anyone know of a macro I can run on the mail merged document which will delete the pages where no data was merged to it. To decide if a page is deleted, the condition could be something like
if mergefiled = blank or if particular cell in table is blank,
then delete complete page of document

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to permanently delete Microsoft Office Document Image Writer & Microsoft XPS Document Writer. Getting rid of them once doesn't seem to be enough, as they always reappear. I guess Windows Update brings them back. I've found a couple of vbs lines that can be added to the login script, but they involve running prnmngr.vbs, which is apparently very long and can cause system delays. Maybe there's something simpler?

When saving a Word 2007 document as a webpage (htm, html), an extra folder is automatically created besides the hmtl document itself. This folder contains background information like pictures, wallpaper etc. Is there a way to prevent that folder from being created in the first place? I've got Word 2000 on another computer, and when I save my word documents as html files over there, that extra folder is not generated. The only time that folder is created in 2000 is if my documents contain pictures, wallpaper etc. In Word 2007, it is created all the time, even though my documents are just plain text.

Answer:Solved: Word 2007, saving document as html document: how to get rid of extra folder?

Managed to find the solution, it was very simple after all. One has to save the document as a filtered webpage and click "yes" when a box pops up warning you that you will use certain featuers which are specific to Office2007, such as the background. Then the document will save without that extra folder and files.

I am running XP and Word 2000 and Nortons. Word will crash if you leave the document open for a while (there is no specific time frame) and then select close (icon). The error - Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. The details are: AppName: winword.exe
appver 9.0.0.3822
Modname: kernel32.dll
modvers: 5.1.26002180
offset 0001eb33

This has pretty much happened since I got this laptop. I have reformatted and reinstalled everything (due to another problem) and still have the same problem with word. I have used the same CD on other computers to install word and they do not have the same problem.

I use a variety of templates and plain documents in my work and can not pin point it to one template.

If you leave Word open with a document (no matter what size) and come back to it later this is when the problem happens. I started to get around it my saving first then closing, but this no longer works. The save completes and then I select Close and this is when it happens - you get the dreaded pause and then you hear the whirl of the computer and then you get the Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Firstly I could put up with it but is now just a nusiance.

I have two questions regarding documents created in Word 2007...

1) Can links be created within a Word document? For example, can I click on and item my table of contents and have the document jump to that particular section of the document?

2) Also, is there a way to make sections of the document hidden until the user clicks a specific word or graphic in the document?

I'd like to specify a particular instruction and include a "Show example" link that would make a detailed example appear for those who needed the extra help.

Thanks everyone!

Answer:Word 2007 - Links within a document? Hide/Show sections of a document?

If you created table of contents through References - Table of Contents, you can hold Ctrl and click on the item in that table, word will take you there. This feature is standard.

Also, to navigate inside document you can use bookmark option.
Insert bookmarks. Word 2010 Bookmarks
Then insert Hyperlink - in the window select second tab "Place in This Document" and choose your bookmark.

As for hiding parts of document, I do not think that is possible.
You can create that in HTML document with javascript, but not in Word document.

Hi all.

The other day whilst in the throws of fixing another unrelated problem I came across a strange and annoying Word Document problem.

When I bought this word document up it present a very unusual icon. It was grayed out and part of the title contained a ~$ then the name of the document.

When I tried to open it, the word document only opened up to the gray page just before it should turn white displaying the text, and there it froze.

Nothing worked after that! The freeze was so bad that the only way to close the window was to turn the computer off at the tower.

After rebooting I tried it again 2 more times with the same problem freeze occurring in the Word document.

Today I again found another document that caused the same problem, this time the icon for that document was normal but right beside this icon was another malformed grayed out ~$(name) icon.

When I tried to open either of the 2 icons I got the same freezing up problem, just as before.

I tried a previously suggested step in that I opened "Word" and from there navigated to where the bad files were located.

In turn I only hi-lighted each, and at the bottom of that window clicked on the arrow for the drop down box.

I was advised that one of the presented options was to repair the file. No such option was present.

So there you have it. Any advice on this problem please?

Regards

Answer:[SOLVED] Word document freezes computer and document is corrupted

Hi all.

Just to advise that I am going to mark this topic as Solved......to a fashion so to speak.
I may resurrect it at a later stage if the problem re-presents it's self.

In a nut shell. I spent a lot of time today searching sites and performing tests including searches on my computer program.

I ascertained that all the aforementioned "defective " Word documents originated in the same folder. After performing several search functions with the criteria as ~$.doc no other such files were found on my computer, other that the already mentioned.

All tests suggested would not repair the said documents.

I have now deleted the offenders and I will monitor the situation. If I run into problems again I will re-post.

Thanks anyway.

How can I avoid this? How to modify the settings. Thanks in advance.

This might be kind of tricky.

We're trying to streamline our RFQ-to-Quote process, which currently utilizes a combination of digital forms and hand-written forms passed among several departments. My boss asked me to modify the RFQ form to save him some typing (because he has to retype all the information in the final Quote), and I--not understanding the complexity of the process--very stupidly told him that it could be done fairly simply using form fields and bookmarks. He's been kind enough to grant me a lot of leniency because for him anything would be better than the current situation, so as long as I can improve on what we use now, he'll be happy.

I thought about creating form templates for each of the departments, then as the original RFQ circulated from one department to the next subsequent forms would be appended to it to create a rolling document. I'm not too happy with the that idea; there's all sorts of room for user error. I thought about creating a single document template containing every department's form, but a) I don't want any single department to be able to modify information gathered during another department's process, and b) certain departments must generate a variable number of copies of their form.

I told my boss the best way to accomplish a secure and low-maintenance RFQ-to-Quote would be to create a stand-alone Quote Generator application, but we both agree the effort is not condusive to the timeframe by whic... Read more

Answer:When typing a word document my laptop keeps sending the document

Hello

I don?t know what you mean with laptop keeps sending the document but if you have this issue with office word or some other office application, try to check some forum where you can find discussion about similar theme.

I can not give you any precise answer but it is maybe because of office specific settings or you press accidentally some key on the keyboard and on this way interrupt symbols entering.

I was working on a Word document that someone sent me by email in form of rar and saved the document. I now can't find the revised file and I have lost about 8 hours of work. Any ideas on where I can find this file? I looked in the email that was originally sent, but it is still the old file. I have also done searching on my computer with no luck. Help, I'm desperate!!! I have Word 2007. Please give me reply as soon as possible.

Answer:Cannot find the saved revised document in Word document

If you were only hitting "Save" and not "Save As" the document is likely, unfortunately, gone. You can try opening Word by itself and going through recent documents to see if it shows up. If you opened it directly from the email and the email was in Outlook, you might be able to find it in the Outlook Secure Temp Folder. To get to this folder, the easiest way is to send yourself a PDF file, open the PDF from the email then go to File | Properties and on the General tab (this is from memory, so I might be off a little bit) you'll find a location that you can click on. In this folder, you have a slight chance of finding the modified file. The only other option you have, that I can think of, would be digging through your temp folders hoping to find a .tmp or .doc file in there that has the content, but I give that about a .01% chance of happening. Good Luck!

Hi....
I'm using word 2010.
I have a Mailmerge document (actually a company letter with header and footer, used by a package called "Cash4Windows" [C4W]). This document usually has the recipients name and address etc. inserted by C4W.
The document is a template - "xxx.dotx".
What I want to do is strip out the Mailmerge fields and save the document as a normal Word 2010 document, 'cos the User wants to have a blank standard company document available.
I've spent a long time fiddling with the Header and Footer to get just what the User wanted, and I know i could just cut-n-paste the Header and Footer into a new document, then save it as "xxx.docx", but when I looked on various help sites the normal method in Word 2010 seems to be
on the ribbon tab
Select Mailings
Select "Start Mail Merge"
Select "Normal Word Document"
then save the Word document.
I've tried this and it has absolutely no effect, as when I close and reopen Word and select the previously saved document, I still get the "Opening the document will run the following SQL command" splash screen!
I've tried saving the "normalised" document with various different extensions, but nothing seems to get rid of the SQL.
I've also tried opening the VBA editor (Alt+F11) to see if I can find the SQL, thinking that if I can delete the SQL it might cause Word to avoid the prompt, but I can't even find the SQL!!!

On my previous computer with Windows 2000, I was able to make incremental backups of a Microsoft Word document while it was being created by me. The advantage of this was that if an "accident" happened and the document was lost or corrupted before it was completed or saved to a folder, the partially completed document could be retrieved from a special folder somewhere in C-drive. I was able to specify how often a new backup was created (ex.: every 3 minutes, ex.; every 10 minutes, etc.). It is possible that this special folder also contained backups of all previously saved Word documents, which were also being re-backed up every few minutes. -- I cannot find any reference to this on my new computer (Windows XP and Microsoft Word 2002) in the Windows search engine, or in the Word user interface "Help". I cannot remember how I found this feature on my previous (W~2000) computer. -- Thanks

Hi,

I work at a small non-profit and we have updated two computers with new computers running Windows 7. We use MS Word 2003. I have checked all threads on forum related to this issue, but nothing seems to correct our problem. I would be grateful for any help.

Description of issue: With a Word document open, one should be able to click "File" > "Send To" > Mail Recipient As Attachment", or any of the other mail options, and have the email composition window of Thunderbird pop up. What happens is that Word is attempting to send the attachment via Windows Live Mail. The computer basically freezes. If you try and abort or get out of Word, and error pops up stating you can't close Word until the email has been sent. Finally, you have to force a shut down of the computer.

Internet Explorer shows Thunderbird as default email client. I have check all of the other obvious places for setting the default email client, but I can't seem to find a conflict anywhere on the computer showing Windows Live Email as default client.

As a side note, this employee was using Outlook Express as their email client prior to the computer upgrade and all setting were imported into Windows Live Mail, which was initially used. The employee did not like Windows Live Mail, so I installed Thunderbird. It is used as the default email client and the only issue has been with Word. Additionally, I know that the document could be sent from Windows Explorer by right-cli... Read more

Hello,
I used mail merger to create 25 letters to different locations and different people. The source used for the names and address's were from an excel file. I used "Edit Individual Documents" in order to get all the letters in one document. Now the problem is i need a backup of each letter on my computer and i have no clue if its even possible to save each page in the master document as a unique document. If not, is there a way of saving each unique document of a mail merger?

If this can be done, is there a way to conserve the original format and the links in the excel doc?I would prefer leaving in excel but the customer needs a word document. Also, just in case I can convince to leave in excel -- is there a way to print the excel file as one document without printing each tab separately? I am a teacher in Tennessee and I need to find a software that will enable me to edit and change a scanned document. I have some old tests and worksheets that I inherited from the teacher that had my room before me. I would like to make some minor changes to the documents without having to retype the entire set of documents. (Things like change the date and the teacher name on the heading, etc...)

Is there a software out there that will allow me to scan a document in and then alter it? These are not copyrighted materials, so that is not an issue.

Preferably, I would like a freeware or shareware or trial version of something to make sure I can navigate it before I shell out a chunk of cash to purchase something.

You can use OCR, i.e text recognition. I'm not 100% sure if Adobe Reader does it, but Adobe Acrobat Pro definitely does. There's probably a few other free alternatives out there as well.

Hi,

I am not sure if this is possible in word, but say I have document A. I place document A within document x, document y, and document z. Is it possible to make changes to document A and have the changes updated automatically to documents x, y, and z?
I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Answer:Word Document within another document

The only simple way is to go to Insert, Object, Create from file and choose to insert your file as a link (these are 2003 instructions - would be similar in 2007, though.) However, you will then get a questions about the file having links and do you want to update...every time you open the file.
You could also just insert some text and hyperlink it to the other file.
Finally, someone could probably write some VBA that would insert the file and update it every time you opened it.

We have a corporate Enterprise with IE11 on Windows 7. We are using Enterprise Mode instead of "open intranet sites in compatibility view" which is now unchecked.

We want sites to open in IE 8 Document Mode instead of the Edge Default which occurs when we uncheck the intranet site compatibility view.
We have the XML and Enterprise Mode Enabled and it is processing BUT the sites are changing from Edge to Document Mode 5 instead of 8?

I have tried ALL the document modes and even IE 8 Emulation and it doesn't matter which one we set, the sites are going to Document Mode 5, with the exception of Livemeeting.com which is opening in IE 8 Document Mode as it should.

Now we can set it manually in IE using the Emulation but it does not last the session.

If I set her default font to Times New Roman it will stay for creating new documents from within Word. If she goes the other route mentioned above to create a new document it will always default to Courier. Greetings,

We setup an IMAP account for someone on their company-assigned laptop. When they delete something, it crosses out the entire row in their list of messages for that particular message ... instead of removing the message. How to fix?

Answer:Outlook 2007, IMAP - Delete crosses out e-mail message instead of delete

With IMAP, a delete action means to add the \Deleted flag to the message. Clients show messages marked as \Deleted in different ways. In Outlook and Outlook Express, they're crossed out. Same for Thunderbird. In Opera's built-in mail client, they're hidden from view and shown in "All Messages/Trash".

Then, when you want to get rid of a message that's marked as \Deleted, you expunge it to totally wipe it from the server and the client. It's often called "purge" in MS products. In Opera, it's deleting a message in "All Messages/Trash" or emptying "All Messages/Trash". Also, by default in Thunderbird, IMAP move operations leave behind the original copy that gets marked as \Deleted. You have to compact the folder (or all folders) to issue a generic expunge command on the folder to wipe out all \Deleted messages in the folder.

So, Outlook sounds like it's working as expected for IMAP.

However, many IMAP clients allow you to set an IMAP trash folder. When you set one, the delete action changes from marking a message as \Deleted to moving (Copy to, mark original as \Deleted and UID expunge the original) the message to the IMAP trash folder.

I don't use Outlook or know anything about it. But, it sounds like you need to set an IMAP trash folder somehow and or configure the delete action. Then, delete will work how you expect. Just don't know if Outlook supports setting an IMAP trash folder.

I am trying to delete songs from my itunes that I do not like anymore to make some space on my laptop. I know that sometimes when I delete songs it pops up saying "delete from hard drive?". I want that to pop up always, but for some reason it doesnt sometimes. My friend said that it will only do that if you have itunes organizing the folders. So i deleted my preferences and made it so itunes will organize my music. However I still delete songs and they dont delete off my hard drive. I was told that the songs have to be in the itunes music folder, I had alot of songs in there, but some in a different folder. I thought maybe I could move the other folder into the itunes music folder, and then it would work. However now when I go to play some songs it says the file cannot be found. Anything I can do? HELP ME!

Answer:How do I delete songs from hard drive when I delete them from my Itunes library?

Because you moved the songs from where iTunes was used to looking for them they will not play - when each song comes up and the error message you described comes up you can click yes to find them and browse for them (you should know where they are if you put them all in one folder). This will re-establish the link to the song's new location in iTunes.
If you have lots to do, it may be faster to delete all your songs from iTunes (not your computer) and set up the folder on your computer properly - one My Music folder with all your music in there - they can be further sorted into subfolders if you want to. Then open iTunes, set the Preferences to "Keep iTunes folder organised" and "copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library" and import all your music from your My Music folder again.
When you get new music by whatever means and import them to iTunes it will automatically place a copy in the iTunes "iTunes music" folder for you and always know where to look for them.

Desire to clear certain desktop icons without deleting the corresponding program. How to do it?

Answer:delete desktop icons versus delete programs

If the program is in Start>All Programs and it is just a short cut icon, then you just need to right click on it and select Delete. If you need to verify that it is just a short cut, right click on it and select Properties and if you see a tab labeled Short Cut, and there is any other way of launching the program, then you are safe deleting it.Another option if you like to clean up your desktop is to put a new folder on the desktop and label this Programs or something like Occasional Programs. Then just drag and drop these icons into this folder. This way you just need to open this folder to see all of them. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hello all,
This is the second computer I have experienced this issue on... I am not sure what setting I may have unknowinlgy enabled to create this fiasco.. hopefully you all have an opinion.

All of the sudden, my backspace key will not delete text that I have highlighted in Word 2002. My delete key will, but my backspace key won't.... this is a pain in the rear since it takes a lot more effort to use to use the delete key than the backspace key, and using backspace has been ingrained in me since childhood.

I did not change any settings or turn on any features (unless it was unknowingly)... I was not messing with options or settings recently at all, as well. I am completely stumped as to how this happens... as mentioned before, it is the second computer to do this to me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton!

I used IObit to delete my newly installed Spyware Blaster which would not open.

After the initial deletion, a window came up that asked if I wanted to delete other items left behind:

"1723 items

I was afraid to delete the registry items, but should I do that in the future? I cannot bring those up again, of course.

Second question, installed Spyware Blaster twice and both times the program would not open no matter where I tried to open it from.

Any suggestions?

When programs like that refuse to run, it's best to rule out malware as being the cause. You should follow these instructions. Once we know you are all clean, we can then investigate the issue further, or maybe I will refer you onto the software forum.

Gentlemen [and Ladies ?]

I have three questions.

My Operating System is Windows XP Professional SP2.

1. I read the reply to PURE TRAGEDY's post of the 7th April 2005 and immediately uninstalled my AVG7 anti-virus scanner. Norton System Works antivirus and AVG7 antivirus had been running side by side for six or seven months and nothing untoward had happened, but when I read the dire warning in the advice to PURE TRAGEDY, AVG7 got the chop.

I would like to scan with Norton in SAFE MODE but do not know how to do it. When I had Windows 98SE, my computer used to jump into SAFE MODE without me doing anything positive to cause it to do that. I had no idea how to get out of SAFE MODE so a neighbour helped. I cannot remember what he did. My computer was in SAFE MODE for two days on one occasion because I did not dare mess about with it.

So, an explanation, in 'dummy' language, exactly how I can get into SAFE MODE, and scan my computer for viruses with Norton, and how I can get out of it, will be appreciated.

2. I have Norton System Works, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster. Spyware Guard, and 2-Squared in my computer. The programmes are updated and used every day. Norton detected a virus which AVG7 did not, so I feel happy with the Norton security.

I have considered installing Microsoft's Beta Anti-Spy and malware application but my friends throw up their hands in horror when anything with Beta is mentioned. "Don't do i... Read more

Answer:XP queries - SAFE MODE; BETA, and delete or not delete

I too am a tidy person, to the degree I can be, oldsoldierThe reason you had no untoward results having both Norton & AVG running was probably due to how they were configured to run.If both were set to to scan continously and be auto-updated constantly, then some problems may have surfaced. You may simply delete the Grisoft folder. You need not open any of the files before you do.That folder was essentially for backups to what the AV software did for you.Without it's presence, or in light of your decision not to re-install it, those files in that folder are useless.I should mention I uninstalled Norton in favor of AVG because:1. Norton updates less frequently than AVG, and isn't effective against as many new variants as the Grisoft has been in the last couple of years.2. Norton costs more.3. Norton, when uninstalled, is also messy. It seems to me to require more system resources to do less for me. An opinion based on a couple years of observation, and reading countless HJT logs where it is installed and serious malware problems also co-exist. 4. Norton offers several products. I've had most installed at one time or another.I bought the System Works Suite in 2002. It deeply embeds into winXP when you use all the features of it, and slows the PC down considerably doing so. If you do not use a similar product, then you will not have similar experiences. The anti-virus aspect of it alone did prove IMHO to be marginally adequate.Microsoft Beta 1 is not anti-vir... Have Microsoft Windows Vista and IE8 - when i go in internet options, general tab, eliminate all - to eliminate records of my IE activity.. I still find a record of the visited places on the browser bar http - then when I delete each http noted, some items disappears for good, certain ones come back even after individual deletion. After applying the "option/delete all" as I park in the current web page I would expect to see only the current web page http address - why do I see instead a full chronology of sites I did delete before and of sites I did not even visit, both items seemingly beyond deletion? How do I get a clean browser slate? Thank you for your help.PS - the undeletable chronology remains also after running CCleaner program.

Answer:Certain IE8 cronology does not fully delete via internet options/delete .why?

That actually may be auto-complete in the browser bar...not History. It can be turned off...but i have no idea how as i haven't seen IE in a loooong tome...

I am having an issue with the delete key deleting all of the content I have written.  When the delete key is pressed once, it deletes the character behind the cursor and then continutes to delete the all of the remaining text behind the cursor, essentially creating a continuous delete. It is not just deleting the one character as would be expected.  I have tried removing/replacing the keyboard drivers with no success. I have updated the keyboard settings to the slowest repeat rate and longest repeat delay, with no success. Sticky Keys and Filter Keys are turned off.

Hi, I think all my problems started when I installed a new McAfee security program three days ago and now I can't seem to get anything to work. My Yahoo mail acount will not delete any unwanted messages although I check the box and click on delete, nothing happens. I also lost all the names in my browser. Nothing appears when I click on it. I have to type each www. name in each time. I tried to send and E-mail to [email protected][/email], but it would not go. Maybe it would be better to uninstall the McAfee and restore my computer back to before I installed it. Please advise.

Answer:delete button will not delete unwanted messages

Well...I would agree about dumping the McAfee but since you paid money for it you will simply have to start reading the HELP files on how to use and configure it. Your problems are all because McAfee is not configured or over configured for your needs.

The program can be overwhelming to a novice computer user. If you want good anti-virus protection with a firewall, then see this: www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

I want to use Find and Replace to delete all the links in a document. All the links are as text (e.g. http://...). I don't mean that the word Yahoo is a link to http://www.yahoo.com.I want to use wild cards to select the Whole link. I thought find http://* would select it all, but it only selects the http:// part of the whole link.I have checked the Use Wildcards checkbox. How do I select the whole link?I'm using Word 2003.

Answer:Delete all links, delete all that begin w/ http:

I hope you got the answer to this already, but if not..
with 'Use wildcards' checked, enter
http://*.com
in the Find what area.

You was on the right track, only needed to add the .com in there so it will continue looking to the end of the web address.

I like to use Opera when ebaying but recently when i go there it won't load and it says invalid certificate. Actions i've already done: check date and time, reinstalled the version i have, upgraded to newest version. My certificate been the same since i first used it if a expired certificate is the reason why act up now instead of doing it right it away? Are expired certificates safe to delete? I can load ebay fine in firefox and it's a old version.

Windows XP SP3 - how to delete files that windows will not let you delete? There's several i would like removed that's safe to remove but won't let me. It usually lets me delete some but not all files. Nothing is open when trying to delete except windows explorer. Tried closing everything and running dos command prompt negative. Not going to list them all but a few are: Microsoft Outlook a original install when windows installed, IE installed when windows installed, symatec antivirus i installed to try out didn't like it wanted to remove won't let me, malwarebytes antimalware i installed newest version but it made a new folder automatically leaving the old version can't delete old version and others similiar. Is there maybe a safe program to use to unlock it or something?

Thanks for your time.

Why are you trying to delete these files instead of just using Add/Remove in Control Panel? For deleting locked files I always boot to a Linux live CD and delete them there. (You cannot remove IE in XP btw)

My partner and I have separate Outlook 2007 accounts on a laptop. When I click on the X icon on the toolbar any highlighted messages are marked for deletion. I then purge all marked messages. On my partners account however, when she clicks on the X icon, highlighted items are immediately deleted. How do I change the setting on X so it only marks for deletion?

So, can i fix that? After that i'll need more help, but a diferent topic/post for sure i think....(some system files are corrupted, how to repair them and stuff like that) ...but fist this problem...

I looked at my firewall events earlier and i saw a file had been trying to connect to the internet but had been blocked by my firewall. Whenever i install a program i am unsure of i block the exe file from connecting to the internet until i'm happy its a safe program. The file is "EFL1.4_Setup(x64).exe" and is the setup file for Easy Locker from XOSLAB.COM i had this program installed once but was not impressed so i uninstalled it, but the file i downloaded is still in my download folder. This is what is trying to connect to the internet,So rather than just delete it i thought i will shred it to make sure its gone. Comodo System Utilities deleted all the files that came with it eg the 32 bit file but it left this file to be deleted on restart, after a restart it was still there. I tried again, same result, I also have Comodo System Cleaner it said it deleted it but it did not,it just thinks it did,Glary Utilities will not delete it even if i run it as administrator (which i am anyway) it still tells me i don't have permission, Spybot secure shredder tells me i don't have permission. Slim Cleaner has a shredder & it says i don't have permission. I can't take ownership of it,if i try to take ownership of it through the properties & permissions etc i get denied access. MalwareBytes File assassin tells me i don't have permission. I am Administrator,& even so i tried running the shred programs as Administrator. oh!,this is a first, I just tried to upload it to V...
