Preferred Solution: Lenovo x220

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Friends from Lenovo,I write you because, on August 12th, 2016, trying to install the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I had to do a reboot of my notebook and in the process, I lost most of the programs and drivers that use my notebook to work properly. I already installed most of the drivers I lost that day, but I still haven`t found and install the correct driver for the hotkeys of my notebook. So far, I have tried with the files r09vu09w and 8jvu43ww, but none of that files is the correct one for my ThinkPad X220 notebook, which I bought in the year 2012. Therefore, I need to ask you if you could tell me how can I get, download the CORRECT hotkey file for my notebook, so I could download it and install it on my Lenovo notebook. Friends from Lenovo, could you please tell me how can I get the correct hotkey file for my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X220, in order to download it and install it on my notebook?THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!! Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Question: Lenovo X220 PSU

Hi Guys, Thanks for clicking. About 6 months ago I ordered an X220 with the following specs: Intel Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz 6 GB memory Win 7 Pro. It was really quite expensive, and it is still fairly new. The mains socket in the back has come loose, meaning I can't charge it at home. I work in IT and always take care with my kit. I have used HP Laptops and Dell Laptops for years on end and never had anything like this happen before. I called customer care and was told this isn't covered under warranty. I order tens of £thousands of Lenovo kit every year and I've never had anything as daft as this. Surely the fact that this laptop cost me about £1700 and it is less than 6 months old means that I should expect a certain amount of integrity, especiialy from a manufacturer who prides themselves on the ruggedness of their kit? Does anybody have any advice? Does anybody agree that this is a bit silly? I asked to speak to the customer care assistants manager and was told he was unavailable, I asked to speak to his managers manager and was he told he would also be unavailable. Anyways, rant over. Thanks in advance for your time all! Charles

Hey there Viper334 and Welcome to the Forums!

It is very unfortunate that you are experiencing this issue with your machine. And I would like to gain a little bit more clarity on what you are experiencing, are referring to the socket where the ac adapter plugs in? Thank you.

Hi, the above laptop has not been working well for quite some time (not sure if it was related to upgrading to Windows 8.1).  The laptop keeps 'hanging' and I have to reboot.   I have run the solution centre which it keeps failing on the hardware scan with results code: WMEBVV2S0-WJIAKG.  I have been unable to find out what this indicates and therefore a possible solution. Would appreciate any help. thank you mark

Hi,  I'm considering to get an X220 stuffed with an i7, fast HD and lots of RAM.  However, after having my W500 replaced 3times within a period of 1 year I'm not so sure if it is a good idea to get a Lenovo.  Any links, hints or tips on the quality of the current X220?  The only major thing I came across until now was an issue with overheating. I'm planning to use the machine for some CPU heavylifting and it seems that a lot of X220 models are overheating and scaling down the CPU MHZ. I actually read something about that this behavior is by design. Is that really the case? I consider that the same as I would buy a Porsche that locks down at 70MPH. I don't see why a machine should scale down at 100%CPU speed.

Answer:Getting a X220 or Lenovo in gengeral?

Actually, you won?t be able to use any x220 (I?ve got a x220i with an i3) at its full capacity with AC power (65W adapter) only, while your battery is not attached to it (to protect it from the heat emitted by your hot cpu). This is the one big by-design flaw Lenovo incorprated at least into this one series of laptops. With a 90w ac adapter, you won?t have any problems, but it costs extra? You are free to think whatever you like? The issue is discussed with other X models herePeople are discussing alternative adapters here

hello I have a Lenovo X220 with Fan problems. The problem is the FAN isn't starting unless i Flash the BIOS. After i Flash the BIOS, then the Fan works again, but if i power off the laptop and power it back on it won't start unless i flash the bios again. What could be the problem for this? The laptop is still in warranty , but i don't have any papers and it was bought from outside EU. Is it any worth to go to warranty?

Hi there, I apologize for the rudimentary question... I was recently given the X220 as a gift. It seems great--but I need to install programs, burn CDs, and watch DVDs on this thing! To do so, what do I need to buy? Can I get any old CD/DVD reader, or do I have to buy the Ultrabase 3 + something else? I can't believe how impossible it is to find this out when browsing the website! Thanks,~Kalyx

Answer:Using CDs and DVDs with the Lenovo X220

The least costly solution would be to buy an external DVD drive with a USB connection that can be plugged into the USB port on your X220.  There are many on the market.

Hello, i acquired recently a x220. The thing is, it will only turn on if you remove the battery and the CMOS battery, and, after plugging the AC adapter it will turn on automatically. Other thing is, after you turn on, you can plug the battery back and remove the AC adapter, it will use the battery normally. Someone had this issue? i need some advices.

Answer:Lenovo x220 won't turn on

I don't know, but how fresh is the CMOS battery? If unsure I think I'd try replacing it with a new one first.

I have a Lenovo X220 running Windows 7 with an Intel i5 2430m clocking at 2.40 gHz and an integrated video card. It's my only computer right now (I will not be getting a new one in the forseeable future) and so I play all my games on it. However, with the new games coming out requiring system requirements over 2.40 gHz, I was wondering is there anyway to push my CPU speed beyond 2.40 gHz without changing the CPU? If it's not possible, is there any compatible CPU upgrades which I can get for my Lenovo X220 which allows me to run GTA 5 at medium to high graphics at over 30 fps? I live in Hong Kong however so if you can provide any addresses to get these replacement CPU, that would be nice . Will appreciate any answers.

Answer:Lenovo X220 - How get it run as fast as possible?

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately you can't swap the CPU since it's soldered into the motherboard, meaning if you need more CPU power you'll need a new motherboard.

The most powerful option is an Intel Core i7-2640M (2.8-3.5 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache).

I anyhow doubt that the CPU above will play GTA5 correctly, I think your biggest bottleneck is the graphics card.

I've got strange problem with two Lenovo X220 laptops. After disassembling the laptop for cleaning and thermal paste exchange, I can't start both laptops. I've got no idea what could happened. Both laptops looks dead. I've checked all connections - looked OK. Any ideas what could happened? What did I do? After I conected the fans, I placed the motherboards by error to the wrong casing. After I started the laptops I found out that the motherboard were switched (I checked the motherboard s/n in BIOS and compared them with the sticker on the bottom of the casing). So after that I took the motherboards out of the casing again and placed them to the correct casing. And after that I wasn't able to start the laptops any more Anybody knows what could it be?

One fine day, touch/pen support simply started working. I did everything I could, reinstalled Windows 8 from scratch, even installed Windows 8.1 in a separate partition. I used the DzPen, MTouch drivers (and tried various combinations of the versions). All of them fail saying 'A supported tablet was not found on this system' I upgraded the BIOS recently - that is the only thing I could think of, so I actually tried an older versio, but still no good. My tablet PC that costs close to 2K dollars is now very simply a laptop - and it is past the warranty. What gives? It's kind of sad as I considered other tablet pcs and disregarded them as Lenovo was supposedly superior in terms of hardware/drivers....

Hello Champs,I know a bit of software & hardware but have been first time to the Caching thing so Need some Help. I had this X220 with Window 7 but i changed it to Windows 8.1 recently. In recent HP laptops i've seen they setup mSATA for caching for better speed from factory. Can i setup something like that for better performance. I know I can install windows separately on mSATA but that is only 32 GB not enough so i want the Cache type settings?   P.S. I have 32GB mSATA installed in system as Unallocated as i didnt need it. I have read something here ANOTHER POST but couldnt get it work for myself

I have an older x220 thinkpad; when running backup it gave me an error message that there was not enough room (but there was plenty of room on the external drive!).  I made the mistake of deleting the backups from the external drive manually.  Now, it hangs up.  I thought perhaps deleting the backups showing in the system would force it to start over with a brand new backup instead of looking for the old ones; however when I try to delete the backups from the list in lenovo backup, it also hangs up.  I would like to find a way to clear all of the history out of the backup system so that it will start over with a new image (and work, of course).  Any ideas?

Strange problem I'm having, my x220 wont recieve any updates from windows. Ive re-installed multiple times, tried many fixes and nothing has worked. Most recently I just reinstalled the whole laptop and first thing I ran was the lenovo system updater, it's stuck on installing windows 7 update module kb2459268 64 bit.. when you goto windows updates it just checks for updates forever. I bought this system used and I originally installed windows 7 and updated to windows 10 which worked, but windows 10 was unsupported and the computer had issues powering off and going to/waking up from sleep. Ever since then when I reinstalled windows 7 I have had this issue. I cant work with a pc that doesn't update... Any tips greatly appreciated. Brad

Hi, I recently got Lenovo X220, and installed Crucial SSD c300 and transferred the image from the existing hard drive (so no clean install of windows 7).  From what I read, I should be able to take advantage of Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 since it was not a clean install and all partitions from the original hard drive is still preserved.  However,  can someone tell me how to turn this feature on?  Or is this automatic once the laptop recognizes SSD?  I looked under Toolbox, but could not find anything.  Thank you.

My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

I have a quesiton I have not found an answer to. Will the X220 charge the battery, when plugged into the 90W charger (42T4430), if the computer is in use?  I used my computer on battery for a few hours, drained the battery to 30%.  Then I went inside to plug it in and keep working.  After 4 hours of working, and it plugged in to the wall the battery still indicates 30%. The same thing happened when I was using my docking station.  I arrived at work yesterday with 76% battery.  After 8 hours on the docking station, I still indicated 76% battery life.  My previous (other major name brand) laptops all would charge even if I was working on the laptop.  Is the X220 different by design?  Do I have to shut down and plug in to recharge?

Hello, The fan in my lenovo X220 tablet stops working after awhile from turning the device on (after around 10 minutes). This causes the temperature of the processor to always be above 90 degree C (using TPFanControl V 0.61). The fan control software shows that the fan is turning at 4060 RPM, but there is absolutly no air coming out! I recently re-applied the thermal paste, and the problem (fan turning off) "might" have started after re-applying the thermal past - I did it in a local computer service shop. I tried to update the BIOS, but the battery does not work and the installation does not start (it gives me an error) because of that. I have been using my X220 for six years with no problems and I currently run windows 10. Please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

I need to pull the trigger soon and have been watching all the posts about fan noise, throttling and IPS ghosting.  Are there any users with an IPS screen who do not notice, or are not bothered by, ghosting on their IPS screen? I would prefer IPS for the better viewing angles and color reproduction.

Answer:Are there any Lenovo X220 owners with IPS that don't notice ghosting?

I have the "problem" but I believe that it is highly overrated as a problem. I am not bothered by it and really enjoy the amazing screen. And I'm really picky about screens.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 running Windows 7, and I've had it for about two years now. It worked fine up until this morning and now immediately turns off even if it is tilts slightly. When I say it turns off immediately, I mean it's like the battery has been taken out. Sometimes static will appear momentarily on screen before it turns off, and other times it won't turn off, but the entire screen just stays frozen. Also, now when I try to access websites like Facebook or Google which would normally be okay, I get a message saying that the website's security certificate is not trusted. I feel like doing a system restore would help, but since I got the laptop from school I don't have administrator privileges and cannot do so.

Below are my laptop's specs. Honestly I have no idea whether this is a hardware or software problem. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong or knows of any way to fix this, your help is much appreciated.

Answer:x220: lenovo battery manger vs windows?

Thinkvantage Power Manager is designed specifically for thinkpads and optimised for the batteries that ship with Thinkpads. It is more accurate and have better charging method. While, windows one is more generic built with no particular system in mind. As such Lenovo's one is better, as you can select the different charging plan which is not allowed by windows.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet Fan Turn Off after few minutes

There are only 2 parts involved - the fan and the motherboard.  If the fan bearing gets hot and seizes, it would spin at start-up to avoid the fan error message.  Fans are cheaper than motherboards, so if it were mine, I would try a new fan.

My friend owns a spare Lenovo X230 with Intel i5-3210M CPU and I own a Lenovo X220 with Intel i5-2430M CPU. My X220 have a terrible Intel HD 3000 Graphics installed and I like the performance boost the Intel HD 4000 can give me. Since my friend have no need of his X230 (he have an Alienware 17), he said that if I can find a way to exchange CPUs between these two computers, I can, provided that the X230 still works with my 2430M CPU afterwards. So I would like to know is it possible to exchange CPUs between these 2 computers but1. NOT losing all data2. I can do it myself with a screwdriverWe don't really care about the ports except for the USBs and headphones. So if some ports have to be rendered useless, it's fine by us.Any help, tips or instructions would be gladly appreciated. Thanks!

i ordered my x220t yesterday after much consideration . visually.. I HATE HOW THE BATTERY LOOKS sticking out from the bottom, i dont mind it sticking out from the back.. just not the bottom. however i do love the specs of the system. this battery needs to be worked on. so even tho i bought this system.. i call on lenovo to make a new battery for this system that is flush to the bottom of th system and offers the same battery strength as the ugly one.  i would buy that in a heartbeat. SO PLEASE!

Answer:lenovo x220 tablet 6 cell battery

Unfortunately what you're asking for isn't possible as a physically larger battery will always have a higher capacity than a larger one assuming they both use the same technology. There is a 3-cell battery for the x220t that fits flush in the x220t but of course it only has half the capacity of the 6-cell battery.

A few weeks ago I've ordered a repacement battery via https://lenovobattery2014.orderz.com/ A couple days later I've recieved a package, but when I opened up, I've found that the battery is not compatible with my Thinkpad x220. I've checked it's P/N and it seems that they shipped me a battery for x240 or x240t. I've send a few emails on different Lenovo adresses about it, but it didn't work out:Local support (I live in Russia) told me that they do not deal with replacement battery program. My emails to global support were left unrepled (I've tried [email protected][email protected]) What should I do? If that's relevant, I've bought my thinkpad in US.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad X220 Upgrade Configuration

Hi, jarmonwhaim

Your plans are grandiose

1. Officially x220 supports 8 gb of RAM maximum. But if works with 16 gb (2x8 gb sticks) fine too. You can purchase Lenovo branded RAM sticks if you are a rich guy. I would recommend to buy the sticks of any vendor you like (Samsung, Kingston, Corsair, Transcend, Hynix etc) according to the following specification: PC3-10600 1333mhz DDR3 SO-DIMM SDRAM, 204 pins.

2. x220 supports a lot of wwan cards for 3g carriers worldwide. If you are not a traveller to US select Ericsson f5521gw HSPA+ WWAN Minicard. Note it must be with Lenovo approved p/n, FRU 60Y3279. I hope there are no specific carriers in your country so you'll don't need the such cards for Malaysia region.

Follow this thread for some discussion and information: WWAN card for the new 420/520 Thinkpads

3. You can fit any ExpressCard 34 or 54 you want - usb 3.0 adapter, eSATA adapter, tv tuner, media cards reader, audio/video card, wireless adapter etc.

4. Upgrade BIOS to up-to-date version and buy almost any 2,5" sata II (or III) SSD drive you'll can pay - Intel, Samsung, Crucial, Plextor etc. My advice is not to buy OCZ models. I would recommend the new model is better, the more capacity ususally means the more speed. Not the height of the drive should be 7 mm. You can post here models you'll find so we'll look at them and select together.

I believe it should work.Just as the esata port works on the old dock when the X220 has no esata capability, the USB 3.0 port should be supported by an internal chipset in the dock and should work as long as you have the setting of enabling ultrabay in the BIOS.

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 and I am attempting to setup a dual monitor with it and a Samsung Syncmaster BX2331 monitor. When I change the setting to extended desktop on the secondary monitor the laptop monitor starts having issues. The useable space becomes bigger than the actual screen so I can scroll up and down while on the desktop. It will also scroll left and right and the desktop icons will move over onto the secondary monitor. The laptop has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor is 1920x1080. I am trying to explain the issue the best I can but it's a little hard to explain.

Answer:Dual monitor issue Lenovo x220

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

Hello, recently I removed by keyboard and palmrest on the lenovo x220 and put it back together however the touchpad seems to be slanted on one side and sorta "stuck". I have also noticed that using the touchpad to move the mouse results in decreased performance or sporadic movements sometimes. This is most likely due to the fact that the touchpad is not aligned properly. I am aware of how to remove the palmrest but I don't know how to disassemble the palmrest itself. I can't find any info on that in manuals or videos.

Hello I'm waiting to buy a laptop Lenovo Thinkpad X220, but it is precisely the model 4287-37G, and the main reason I want to buy it by the Panel IPS, but I have read that not all the X220 have this type of panel and therefore I can not buy until I'm sureI've been all afternoon calling for service (not catch) and view through the Lenovo web sites but no way of knowing.I would be grateful if someone could confirm if indeed this particular model (4287-37G, NYD37SP) has IPS panelFor information is just this laptop I'm waiting to buy when I do not know if he is or IPS panel: http://www.audiotronics.es/product.aspx?productid=126021Thank you very much and best regards

Answer:Lenovo X220 4287-37G (NYD37SP), have IPS panel????

In short.. No The somewhat longer version, the model you mention 4287-37G in not featured in the Lenovo tabook. The site you link to does however say the sceen is a "12.5" HD 200 NIT Panel"  The IPS panel is rated 300 NIT so this will be a 'non-IPS' panel.. You can compare these screens here: TN vs. IPS at Lenovo Thinkpad X220

My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I purchased my x220t about 3 months ago and I have begun to have a reacurring problem. I will be running CAD 2011, nothing 3D, and the screen will spontanneously go black. 5 seconds later, it will restart and an issue report will pop up in the bottom right and corner of the screen. This issue is a real problem since I bought this laptop for engineering and with an i5 processor, CAD sould be running fine. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. I have tried to find similar if others have had a similar issue but I can not find anything. What should I do? ps, I have a screen shot of the info but I am unable to post it.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad X220 General Upgrade Information (RAM/SSD)

Hi and welcome, heyArhumGlad to see ThnkPad and x220 lover 1. x220 supports up to 2x8 GB RAM installed. With BIOS up to v.1.28 it supports 1333 Mhz memory by default (by design) and memory 1600 Mhz w/o issues. With 1866 Mhz memory some issues might appear, depending on the memory stick manufacturer, model, parametersStarting with BIOS v.1.29 using not designed memory type is locked.2. x220 mSATA slot supports SATA II interface. There are no SATA III lines of laptop chipset in that interface. So, use any mSATA drive, on your choice - capacity, budget, vendor..., not in the m.2 formfactor (!). Intel, Plextor, Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Kingston... Not NoName and OCZ. Of course, most mSATA III drives are back compatible with mSATA II slots. The choosing between mSATA + HDD and regular 2.5" SSD drives depends on the storage capacity you need, laptop usage profile.3. I don't know about palmrest cracking issue despite the fact I contacted with hundreds of the x220 owners, since the beginning of 2011. I'm sure there might be a bit trouble with parts fixing under palmrest, their routine. There was the single case I remember - the user has breaked it himself due to the impact.

Hey guys,

I need help with a major issue that I truly believe to be a Lenovo side error.

I recently ordered a X220 laptop with a bunch of add-ons, one of them, the bluetooth 3.0 card. I'm completely positive that I checked the option, but I received the option without a bluetooth function. Now, bluetooth is extremely important to me and all non-OEM cards are $100. How do I go about getting a bluetooth card in my x220? If I ask Lenovo to do so, I'm positive I'll be charged the 15% restocking fee, which will run me more than $100. I feel like an idiot for not checking my order after punching in my credit card, but it happend.

I'm 100% positive that I clicked bluetooth during my order and didn't receive it. My order says I didn't order it, and thus means I didn't pay for it. Bluetooth is a do or die thing for my laptop, if I don't have it, this laptop is useless to me. What can I do?

Also, If I'm forced to pay for the 15% restocking fee, when I re-order, will my coupon code that I used (Now expired) be applicable?

Thanks for everyones help!

Answer:X220: bluetooth 3.0 card - Lenovo Ordering problem

A Bluetooth card is relatively easy to install. Look at the downloadable Hardware Maintenance Manual. It shouldn't be necessary to return the laptop and place a new order. You can purchase a Lenovo bluetooth card and install it yourself, or send the laptop to depot service (at your expense). As a new laptop purchase, you might be able to negotiate a reasonable price to add Bluetooth. As for the order transaction, consider looking at this from the Lenovo side (or really, any business). They had received an order, sent it back to the customer to verify, and it was approved. That process protects both the customer and the business. As far as they are concerned, they had an order and filled it correctly but the customer came back and says they didn't really mean to approve the order. Seems a bit unfair. Possibly you had clicked on the option but the browser might have been busy and it didn't register, or any number of other circumstances. At this point nobody can know what really happened but the bottom line is that you had an opportunity to verify your order both on-screen and afterwards. After I ordered, I was e-mailed an order number and link for checking order status. I did click on the link to verify the options, shipping address, billing amount, etc.

Can I connect an external battery to the "always on" USB port in order to extend the run-time? If not, are there any other options? (I already have the largest available internal battery.) Thanks,Don C.

I just bought an X220 and it will arrive in a few days. I am interested in getting a 65W AC Adapter with USB Hub (57Y4600) to set up at home and use the standard 65W adapter for traveling.1) The 65W adapter with USB Hub is listed in the ThinkPad X220 Top Options and also on the X220 Tech Spec sheet. But when I look at the technical data for the 57Y4600 it does not list the X220. Are they compatible both in terms of voltage, amperage and connector size?2) Are the three USB ports on the 65W Hub that are linked to the laptop - are they powered by the Hub itself or do they draw power from the single laptop USB and therefore might not be fully powered? If they are not powered by the 65W adapter then I might as well buy a stand alone USB hub.3) I have searched the Lenovo web site and I can not find a 57Y4600 for sale anywhere. Is it discontinued? I have found them on the Lenovo Outlet site ("refurbished" with very little warranty) and on Amazon - but it seems those on Amazon and other sites may not be Lenovo OEM. I would prefer to buy a new one from Lenovo to be assured of quality so as to protect my new X220.Thanks

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and my C drive (windows drive) corrupted yesterday. I cannot get to Lenovo Recovery to restore my C drive because the C drive was totally corrupted. I use linux bootable usb to try to access my hard drive, the C drive was corrupted, no data can be read, but the Recovery Partition (Q:\) was fine. I try to re-install my Thinkpad using the same OS (Windows 7 Pro-64 Bit) using the product key inside the battery slot to see if my hard drive fails or not, but the Windows that I reinstalled was fine until now. The Recovery Partition was still there, with different Letter path (changed to D:\) and whatever inside the recovery partition was hidden but the partition was 10GB used, so I think what inside the partition was hidden. My question is:1. Can I use my Recovery Partition again to factory reset my Thinkpad?2. Can I use the Recovery Partition with the Lenovo Rescue & Recovery apps that I download from Lenovo Website? Thank you, I still need My Thinkpad X220 eventhough I already have newer Lenovo laptop. Your help is much appreciate.

Despite having my X220 since May I've only just started using the camera, and as far as I can tell Lenovo's driver doesn't work. The green led comes on but no image/video is sent to any program. Windows' generic driver works fine though.

Answer:Lenovo's X220 camera driver doesn't work

hey vinuneuro, that's strange, when you use the camera with the Lenovo driver was it at version 1.1.0.1147 ?

Good morning - This is mostly directed at Lenovo Support Staff, but also to those with a X220 Tablet or similar. After hours of troubleshooting, I finally found the cause of my Windows 7 Pro Shutdown issue. The Tablet would hang at Shutdown, then BSOD.  I systematically removed drivers until I found the cause. The current installed version of the Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver, Version 1.04.0.0 as installed by System Update was the culprit.  As soon as I uninstalled that driver, no more issues. I have yet to try the driver that is available from Windows Update - if I have a similar issue, I will go ahead and update this post. Hopefully this will provide some enlightenment to those few who've had to track down a similar issue, and let's hope Lenovo will respond. *Edit*I realize this is in the wrong forum.  Can the Moderator please move it to the X-Series Tablet Forum?  Thanks

Hi everyone, first post here!
My laptop is currently causing me some aggravation regarding fast startup. It is a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 I have upgraded to Windows 8 and then 8.1 and an SSD and up to now has been performing flawlessly.
Recently, with the fast startup option enabled, the computer has been shutting itself off completely after the startup animation and requires the power button pressing again before it will boot up, in 'normal startup' speed.
I have tried disabling and re enabling fast startup, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate the hiberfil.sys file and that's about all I can think of. It still behaves the same, turning itself off completely immediately after the startup animation.
Anyone got any ideas to resolve this?

Answer:Fast startup causing problems - Lenovo Thinkpad X220

Fast startup has worked a couple of times in the meantime - I swapped the wireless card yesterday and reinstalled some drivers to resolve some unrelated issues and it started working again. Yay! I thought - but after the first couple of goes it started doing the same thing again and shutting off after the animation!

Hey there,  I just upgraded to W10, Windows and all Lenovo drivers are up to date. After every restart from updates there is no sign of cursor on the screen. I have tried tochpad and trackpoint as well. When I got into mouse settings, there was written  "Synaptics could not start (Code 10)".  Then I have to manually restart the laptop again and after that it works. Is anyone else facing those problems? I haven't found any solution yet. Thanks!

Hi, I have installed Lenovo power manager on my x220 win7 32 bit laptop. Different settings can be configured in standard windows power settings and Lenovo tool, for example what happens when lid gets closed. Which of these two will take effect?

Answer:x220 Lenovo power manager vs. standard Windows controls

Hey there mmuza,

I actually had to go check this on my machine here to see what would happen. Through some trial I found that when you change the setting in one, it should change it in the other. For Example:

Using Windows Power Options you go in to the Power Plan you are currently using, click change plan settings, click change advanced power settings, and scroll down to lid options. You can change this to shut down. If you then go into the Lenovo Power Manager, open the dropdown for events and look at Lid, it changed to shutdown as well. I then switched this to sleep in the Power Manager, and then went back to the Windows Power Options. It reflected this change to sleep as well. It is important to note that when looking at these settings to make sure you are looking at the same power plans. For example maximum performance, or maximizing battery life.

I hope this helps mmuza.

Hello,

Make sure that the Gobi 3000 Sierra Wireless MC8355 is the actual Lenovo part with a FRU of 60Y3257 or 60Y3283.  A generic mobile broadband card or card from another brand of computer will not work.

What is the easiest way to copy the Lenovo image to a mSATA drive so that my X220 will boot from the device?

Should I just burn recovery discs, install the mSATA while leaving the 2.5" port empty, and run the recovery process?   I'm only getting a 32GB mSATA drive so maybe copying an image may not work unless the space required is signifcantly less than 32GB for Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Easiest way to copy X220 Lenovo image to a mSATA drive

I must say that Win7 might run out of space very fast on a 32 gig drive. On a brand new X220:Win7 takes up 29 GB, Lenovo Recovery is 12GB..

Hello Folks, This is my first post on this forum and wanted to share my very recent experience with you and see if anyone has  a suggestion or feedback. I recently purchased a new ThinkPad X220. I got it yesterday (9/1). When I opened the box, I found that the LCD screen is cracked (there is a crack that extends from the top to the bottom of the screen with a circle in the middle as if the liquid crystal is spilled). I contacted customer service right away, and was told that I need to submit pictures of the damage before they can help me. I spoke to a supervisor who promised me a call back at 10 AM today for further assistance. It is 12:10 noon (EST), and I am still waiting for that call. I emailed the sales person, who helped me purchase the machine, to see if she can help me get a refund, or replace the machine, or at lease replace the screen. I even emailed her pictures of the damaged screen, but .... NO RESPONSE! I just spent $1029 for a computer that I can't use, and no one at Lenovo cares to help me. Any idea what should I do next?! Thanks in advance. see this link for the damaged screen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6106115589/in/photostream/

Hi,I have been having EXACTLY the same issue as in this post:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-Plastic-strip-loose-no-warranty/td-p/7249...here are some images of my laptop:http://ompldr.org/vZGo4bAhttp://ompldr.org/vZGo4bQhttp://ompldr.org/vZGo4bghttp://ompldr.org/vZGo4bwhttp://ompldr.org/vZGo4cAhttp://ompldr.org/vZGo4cQhttp://ompldr.org/vZGo4cg Here is my story below,I left my X220 ( which is just 4 months old) at PERCOM (A Lenovo Partner) in Munich, because of the same reason ( plastic cover loose) and 1 other issue. They took the machine and sent it to the manufacturer and had it tested there and concluded that it was my fault, although I am pretty much sure I have not caused this issue. Besides, PERCOM charges me 100? to get my laptop back and their reason is that they had to spend time on the device because the defects were mechanical damages by user ( that they claim, but its absolutely not true. )So i need your consultation from now on, what could you suggest me to do? They want me to pay them 100?, although I do not have it repaired ( and although I am sure it is a manufactural issue ). I have contacted some magazines already that this is not legitimate and have been waiting for their response.I still do not understand how Lenovo can deny the same issue that has been resolved for someone else. Please help.what do you suggest me to do from now on?

Answer:X220 LCD Rear Cover, Lenovo denies the warranty, although it was covered for someone else.

Hi eduedix,

Sorry to read about your situation, why don't you follow dodger_NL's example, which you have read, and escalate the case by creating a complaint?  PERCOM should be able to do this for you or if you wish to you can do it yourself by calling service and quoting the current Call Nr. or your system's type and serial number.

Out of interest, do you expect the magazines to repair your notebook before you've gone through the "appeals" complaints process or what?  I suggest you open a complaint, it will help you more than the magazines.

Configuration:X220 Tablet, Core i7, 320GB HDD, Added 128GB MyDigital SSD. Background:When I first installed the MyDigital 128GB mSata SSD, it installed and worked like a charm (Yesterday - 3/18/2011). I installed Windows 7 on it and it was working great. However, the computer then went into hibernate and when it woke up, it reverted to my HDD and after that point I haven't been able to boot back into the SSD. Other symptoms:* At first, the computer showed the drive properly as an SSD drive, however, now BIOS and everything else simply show it as PS3016S5.* Windows disk management utility show only 2MB on the disk. What I've tried so far:* Opened the laptop back up to make sure the drive is still connected properly.* Tried installing Firmware update S5FAM012 (from mydigital), but running the command with /SCANPORT simply said it could not find any valid SATA drive.* Tried installing firmware S5FAM015 (from mydigital), but the UI keeps showing me the error message: "Failed!!! Not Running on Flash Normal Code now!! - FBO" Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm stuck not being able to use my 128gb SSD at all.

The x220 sadly didn't have an HDMI port, but to overcome this you can get a cable or adaptor for display port to HDMI but then I've seen quite a few people having issues getting sound from the display port to HDMI. Here is the answer. some of the adaptors and cables you get hold of might not transmit audio in the first place, so check the specification for it. then on your computer you need to try these things enable something in the control panel, sound settings, playback tab.  in white space right click and select show disabled and disconnected devices. you might already see the HDMI and you can set that as default, but if it is not yet showing at least you have enabled it here when you do get it to appear. next go to the device manager (also an icon in the control panel)you will see a folder called sound etc, so expand itIn mine it had the following: Bluetooth Hands free AudioConexant 20672 Smart Audio HDIntel(R) Display Audio do not try to update the drivers here - download and over-install the old ones(or remove old and be ready to install new - DO NOT delete the drivers and forget what they are called) useful link to the Lenovo drivers - I have it located in UK, change if you want at the tophttp://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/downloads/default.page?selector=expand As a matter of course I did a search online for Conexant 20672 windows 7 driver and Lenovo links were showing immediately, perhaps they have that chip exclusi... Hi, I have a X220 with the latest Thinkpad 3.0 Bluetooth drivers May 2013.. Bluetooth icon is on, BIOS Bluetooth is on. I have the Bluetooth Service, Bluetooth Support on.  When adding a Device, it tries searching but cannot find my Bluetooth keyboard (Microsoft) nor my Phone. I have tested the Bluetooth keyboard on a T41 with Windows XP and it connected successfully. My phone Android 4.1 sees my Laptop but cannot pair to it. Any ideas? I read only a couple things about Bluetooth module being loose.

He there,
I found a couple of similar threads, but I could not solve my problem yet.
Since a bought this laptop almost a year ago I have random system chrashes with a "Driver Power State Failure".
Sometimes it seems especially when I use lots of programms at the same time and always when the computer automatically goes to "sleep" or "poer save mode" (or when I close the lid).
What can I do to solve the problem or where is the problem exactly?

Kind regards

Hello,I have had to recently wipe my computer (X220 thinkpad) due to issues with Win 10 upgrade & although I have an initial state recovery disk, I don't want to use this due to software installed later. My question is, all I can find now in 2016 are windows 10 apps & even though people consider initial Lenovo software bloatware, I found certain components incredibly useful like the power manager. As an eg, The new power manager comes wrapped in a Win 10 gui app (yuck) with nothing but 'special' icons for Lenovo users and the minute I want to go advanced I'm dealing with Windows control panel again.I especially liked being able to control parameters like fan speed, graphics, dimming etc.If anyone remembers the initial software, they will know what I'm talking about.  I cannot find this anywhere on Lenovo download site for my system and am wondering if there's any way to recover such software.Software I would like back but cannot find for X220.  Running 64 bit on Win 10 ProLenovo fingerprint managerLenovo webcam mgrLenovo power mgrLenovo Network mgr Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

As some of you who read this forum may already know, I am one of many users who have complained on this thread about the poor quality of the stylus digitizer. I am fortunate that I was able to return the laptop for a full refund. However, I was just browsing this thread on the Notebook Review forums when I noticed several posts complaining about several LCD issues, including a noticable bulge in the LCD bezel. Just read the posts on the last few pages. This too, was a problem I noticed on my former X220t and in fact, I sent technical support a photo of the defect (http://s50.photobucket.com/albums/f337/TheHoplite/?action=view&current=IMAG0497.jpg) along with my complaint about the digitzer. I was very frustrated when several days later, I got a call from technical support saying that they believe that I had physically damaged the laptop, causing the bulge on the screen and the various other screen related defects I had complained about (digitizer and the famous backlight bleed and IPS ghosting issues, which have also been reported on this, and other forums) and that I would need to be charged for a repair! What's going on? Either the Lenovo technical support teams completely detached from each other and don't share information about problems, or (more likely) the X220 series is suffering from some serious manufacturing issues that the company is trying their utmost to dismiss.

Answer:Are Lenovo intentionally denying known manufacturing defects in their X220/X220t models?

That's some bull.  There is some unevenness in my bezel too, but nothing that bad.  The truth is the top lid doesn't seem that sturdy. I'm glad I have accidental (but boy will I be pissed if they try to deny that).  I'm planning on eventually warrantying my screen for the backlight bleed and ghosting issues. Maybe wait awhile and see if they ever cop for the digitizer issues.  I have a feeling that's more software than hardware, but we'll see.
