Windows could not complete the installation on Factory reset

Question: Windows could not complete the installation on Factory reset

The Envy dv7 was not working properly and decided to do a factory reset. When through all the steps and once the process started, it keeps stopping with the following message: Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this compute, restart the installation. Turning it on and off will give me the same error message. How would I go about installing windows when it does not give me an option anymore? I did the following already: Restore BIOS default settingsTest the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI Any other suggestions? Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Windows could not complete the installation on Factory reset

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The subject pretty much says it all. I have a Lenovo Yoga, and had to do a Factory Reset. Now I'm getting an error that it's not activated. I've gotten the key off the computer itself, and done the Microsoft Activation Center's thing, and couldn't get anywhere. This product is legit, it didn't go anywhere, so why am.i having so much difficulty??

Backstory: For X-mas we purchased a gently handy-downed Dell Inspiron 3520. I factory reset it so that I could put in our information, I also put on ESET Anti-Virus. I then downloaded the Windows 10 Activator, it ran its process says everything was fine and it started to download. Everything was going great, there was no issues until it came to the final phases which was the reboot. For over 3 hours it just showed nothing more than black screen with Dell Logo.

I call Dell and after 30 minutes they say its a software issue and that I'd have to pay $200+ for them to fix it over the phone with me. I tell them I can't afford that and we disconnect. So I go into the start up system and attempt to Factory Restore it again, it starts the process goes all the way through and then it goes back to the black screen with Dell logo only this time a dialogue box pops up. Its named Install Windows and it says, "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

I've tried F8, but its not recognizing it, or even trying to open the command prompt and following other steps I found online such as typing in 'oobe' isn't working.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Trying to Factory Reset get this "Windows could not complete

What's the exact service tag/serial number and express service code number on that Dell Inspiron 3520 laptop?

What Windows 10 "activator" are you referring to, and where did you download it from?

Hi everyone; I recently tried to restore T61 laptop to factory settings and I received the message "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation". I used Dr. Google to see if I could fix the problem; but unfortunately after re-starting multiple times, restoring to factory settings (after changes to the Administrator account as well as "Oobe" settings, in any number of combinations); I still get the same error message. Any thoughts? I'm attempting to reinstall Windows Vista Business. I do apologize I'm not a computer person so if you need any additional details please let me know; thanks in advance!

Hi, I have a Y510p laptop, and it's close to 3 years old now, which means the original software that came with it out from the factory is Windows 8.  So a month or two ago a malware and virus screwed up my precious laptop that I've tried super hard to not screw it up with viruses. I did remove the malware and virus, but then there was still a persisting thing so I decided to factory reset it.  After that, it went back to Windows 8 thanks to onekey recovery through novo button, and I've tried to install Windows 10 back, it did download and prepare to install and whatnot. But then when it reaches the "your PC will restart several times" part, when it restarts, the Lenovo splash art appears and nothing else happens, there's no spinning circles thing, and it stays there for a few hours so I decided to force shut down my PC. Before I did the Windows 10 installation, I did check for updates for a Windows 8 and installed them. I don't know what is going on and I need help!

Answer:Windows 10 failed installation after factory reset.

Hi AmericanBear ,

Greetings.

To avoid creating other unneccessary partition during install and even windows.old folders that can eat up space, starting a fresh slate of OKR would be better.

This time , you can set the machine to clean boot and set power option to high performance (disable hibernate if necessary with powercfg -h off ).

Disable / uninstall any antivirus that may block windows update but you can immediately proceed with Win 8.1 patch even manually before proceeding with Windows 10 installation winthin Windows.

Hoping such suggestions help.
Update us how things go.

Regards

I'm trying to reset/restore my Inspiron all-in-one running Windows 10 while saving my personal files. It gets to 22% complete and stops. The only details I get says "Unable to reset you PC. No files have been changed"
What is going on and how can I do the reset

Answer:Factory restore/reset will not complete

I'm assuming you're trying to reset from Update & Security(Recovery/Reset This PC)? If yes, I'd suggest you try from Advanced Startup. Please go back to Update & Security, click on Recovery, and then Advanced Startup( Restart now). Stroll down to Troubleshoot, click on it, and then Reset this PC.

I have an Acer aspire Windows 7 x64 that was giving me issues so I did a factory reset on it. I've done this before with no problems on this very computer, but during this last time everything seemed to have gone horribly wrong. Everything is running extremely slow and when trying to use an Internet browser it freezes before loading every page but usually load eventually even if it says that it's not responding. Other things won't load and I have no idea what the problem is. When I go on to Firefox which is my primary browser, I get an error saying that the script cannot be read. The error reads as such:Chrome://saff/content/saffplg.js.524I don't know what other information I can give you, this was just such a great computer before and I would really appreciate it if someone can help me get it back in order. Thank you!

Hello, I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and everything was working ok but a bit glitchy. I installed Linux and the computer started working brilliantly, great user experience. In order to install Linux I had to repartition the disk, I made sure that I didn't hurt any of the vital partitions (recovery etc.).Last week my Wifi card stopped working. At first it would disconnect after a couple of minutes after reboot and now it doesn't connect at all. Sometimes the computer recognizes it, sometimes it doesn't.I have tried everything I could think of and find on google so the only solution I can think of is to send it to the warrenty, and I suspect this is a hardware issue since I have the same problem on Windows and Linux and it suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Before I send it for repair I would like to bring it back to factory settings so that the technicians can do everything to fix it, I don't want to get the computer back with a "meh you installed Linux so we won't help you".So my question is, can I still use the Novo button? Will it repartition the disk as I recieved the computer? And if not, how can I achieve this? Life without a wireless card is no life. Thank you, Ben

Lenovo E430e During the installation of windows 8.1, I manually interrupted the installation process. After restarting the notebook, I was unable to enter the notebook BIOS settings. Now pressing "Enter" at the startup won't go to the "Interrupt Menu" anymore. It just ignores pressing "Enter". I tried detaching the battery to restart the settings. After that it asked F1 to enter BIOS or ESC to continue. I got into BIOS settings and restored the defaults. But no changes made. I even tried upgrading BIOS from 2.52 to 2.54 but the problem is still there. Now I'm unable to install windows. I gives the error code 0x80070570 during the installation. I googled the error code and it seems it's a UEFI BIOS related issue. I can't restore the factory BIOS settings and I can't install windows. Help me out here please    EDIT #1: The windows installation error (0x80070570) had nothing to do with the UEFI BIOS. it was just image corruption.  I'm gonna use another ISO image for installation.

Hi guys, attempted a factory reset and the laptop turned itself off halfway through and I cannot get back onto it at all. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L450D-11w and it was running windows 7. When I try to load it up i get the message bootmgr is missing press ctrl alt delete to restart.

Tried going into the bios and booting but dont have many options only hd and cd drive which dont work. I have also turned it off and tried holding zero to load up a recovery warning that a friend told me should pop up, with no luck. When i go into boot setup the drive only options i have are toshiba mk3263gsx-(s2) or tsstcorp cdvdw ts-l633c-(s4). I have no idea what to do from here having tried a few options, would really appreciate some help.

Thanks
Damien

Answer:Satellite L450D - reset during factory installation

Hello Damien

Problem is that recovery image installation may not be interrupted. If this happen there is big problem because it cannot be continued and also you are not able to start it from the beginning.
With other words HDD recovery installation is screwed up.

All you can do now is to install recovery image using recovery installation disc.
I?m afraid you didn?t create one, right?

I want an 'out of the box' Windows 10 experience with my Surface Pro 3. My initial thoughts were:
1. Put the stuff I want to keep on a USB or 2,
2. Go to my settings (in Windows 8.1) and factory reset my SP3 to like what it comes with when you first buy it.
3. Install necessary updates until ' Get Windows 10' app appears.
4. Free Upgrade to Windows 10 via app.
5. Once upgraded to Windows 10, load USB files onto Surface Pro 3. Done.
But now I just realised a different way of doing it and I think most people would do it this way:
1. Put important stuff in safe place. (eg. USB stick, OneDrive or other cloud service)
2. Open ' Get Windows 10' app and Free Upgrade to Windows 10.
3. Once upgraded to Windows 10 then factory reset from Settings. (in Windows 10)
4. Put important files (Writing, Visual Studio, Minecraft, Civ 5 and that's about all I need I think) from USB (or wherever you put them) back onto computer. Done.
Which way is the best way for me to do it? I did click 'reserve' in the 'Get Windows 10' app so I may have preloaded Windows 10 files on my SP3 already. Am I right about most people doing it the second way?

Is the windows 8.1 reset the same as factory reset?  trying to get rid of some pesky viruses so would a reset remove them if a reset is not the same as a factory reset? Also within the windows 8.1 reset, it asked for a couple of options.  When it says "repartition", would that destroy the currently existing partitions or no?the second option asks for whether to keep all the files within the partition or to clean them.  is there an option to clean only selected partition?

Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how to do this?

Thanks already.

This link will guide you through a complete reinstall of WinXP: *link*

As for the AVG thing: record you license number (on a piece of paper, or whatever) and when you are finished reinstalling XP, go to Grisoft's website and install the trial version AVG 8.0. When it prompts you to register or buy a license, enter you license number that you recorded earlier.

UPDATE: On Windows 7, you'll need to do this to reset your network adapters:

Now, reboot and pray. Possibly not in that orde

Well, when you hit Diagnose this connection, that is what it basically does, but an interesting idea.

You might also add: "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew"

https://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=37620
ipconfig /flushdns
When DNSCache service is disabled, this problem is gone, it is also recommended for security reasons.
nbtstat -Rnbtstat -RR
Unless you have DSL connection or using file sharing, NetBIOS can be disabled, security reasons as well.

Hi: If you previously had upgraded to W10 and it was successfully activated, you can go right back to W10 by using the Media creation tool at the link below and clean install W10. When you get to the window during the installation process where you are asked to input a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and autumatically reactivate once you are connected to the internet. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 If you want to go back to W8.1, you will have to use the W8.1 recovery media you should have made when you first got the PC.

Answer:Need to know how to do a factory reset in windows 7?

It's doable through tutorials on this site IF your PC has the capability. Some do, some don't.

But a few questions:

Have you made one or more "recovery" discs, by burning to a CD or DVD?

If you have not made recovery disks, your PC may or may not have a recovery partition that will allow you to restore to the state in which the PC left the factory.

Are you familiar with Windows Disk Management?

Does your PC have a sticker on it with a 25 character "Product Key"? If it does, you should be able to do a fresh install of Windows that you may prefer to a "factory reset", depending on your preferences. Many people don't like the configuration from the factory and would prefer a custom setup. Maybe you would. Maybe not.

Hello chanroy, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you like, you could download a Windows 10 ISO for the same edition and architecture that you currently have installed, create a bootable USB with the ISO, then do a clean install.

Hey guys.

Upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 today, but it didn't ask me about whether or not I wanted to keep anything or not.. it just automatically kept my files.. but I wanted it to wipe everything clean with this install. So I'm on Windows 10 now and I want to do a factory reset, and I've gone to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.. But clicking the "Get Started" button does absolutely nothing. I've tried doing the Advanced Startup > Troubleshoot > Reset this PC too.. but it doesn't ask me how much I want to keep, or do anything actually, that just goes to a black screen and resets my laptop.

Don't really know why this is happening. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Problem is I have lots of junk on it like games that I no longer need. I thought of a lot of things to speed it up as it is painfully slow such as an SSD upgrade, but that is a bit pricey. The only thing I could think of is reset it so it doesn't have loads of rubbish running in the backround becuase the disk is always running at 100% usage (even at idle). So I was thinking, if i reset it to factory settings, will it keep windows 10 on it or will it degrade back to windows 8.1? Many thanks

Answer:If I factory reset, will it keep windows 10?

JC442 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!A "factory reset" returns the PC to the state it was in when it left the factory, so of course, it will reinstall the original OS, drivers, and apps.

HELP!  I tried to upgrade from windows 8 to 10 on my Aspire X3995.  Microsoft said I qualified and my hardware requirements were met.  They did not say to check with your OEM to make sure they have all the driver support you need.  Acer does not support my model on 10 (yet) so so now I have a very unstable 10.  I do not have a saved image of 8 to revert to.  I can't find my original install CD.  I am hoping that I can initiate an Acer factory reset to 8.  I have all my files backed up and do have my office install CD.  I just need a non flaky OS how can I revert to 8 safely and easily?    Do I get into the BIOS screen and initiate from there?   Do I need a USb boot thumb drive from a download somewhere?   Do I need to involve Acer support?   Is this paid or warranty covered support? i know I should not have been so trusting and should have been better saved as a revert option.  I just got tired of being pestered by Microsoft to upgrade and tired of windows 8 ( which is pretty bad).   Maybe Acer will just provide the right drivers for me and it will magically work?  I'm not counting on that.   Please help me.  Thanks in advance too trusting for my own good

Answer:Windows 8 factory reset?

windows 10 is better on hardware management than windows 8, so as "very unstable" what do you mean? maybe we can find some OEM drivers, instead of waiting Acer's drivers. by the way, if you prefer to revert:http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/how-revert-back-your-previous-os-after-windows-10-upgrade or you can try to press ALT+F10 at boot but after a windows 10 update, this normally starts windows 10 recovery instead of Acer recovery factory reset.

Thanks. F8 usually boots Safe Mode -- you want Recovery. If you have (had?) a recovery partition the documentation for you PC should tell you how to access at startup.

Sorry this is in the wrong section, options were very limited. I have been given a touchsmart 310 running windows 10, I Can not  install or change anything because I am not logged in as the administrator but I cannot find the account to log in to  matter what I try so I think my best option is to do a factory reset, but I dont know if  will I need the windows key. Has anyone everdone this reset & did you need your windows key & am I going to be able to do the reset without being logged in as the administrator.

Answer:factory reset windows 10

Hi, There are many HP Touchsmart 310, it must be HP touchsmart 310-something such as         http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c02622055 I don't think it has Windows 10 pre-installed and you may not be able to do factory restore because you need Admin password which you don't have. My suggestion: clear everything and install fresh Windows 10 1. Create Windows 10 installation media using the following instructions      https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 2. Use the media to install Windows 10 to your machine, skip the step to enter the product key and continue, 3. Go online and Windows 10 will automatically activate using the key in the BIOS. Please note: you must install Windows 10 version/edition which is on the machine now, you can't change to other version/edition (ie can't change from Home to Pro for example. Regards.

So I installed Windows 8 whenever it came out and then updated to 8.1 last fall. Since then my computer has become bogged down and running really bad. It's time just start fresh but when I go in to the PC settings to restore it, it says I don't have the necessary files and that I need to insert a disc. Since I installed 8.1 from the store I have no disc to restore it from.

I saw some tutorials on activating 8.1 from 8 but I don't even know if I'm following the right ones or not. I'm not sure what I'm doing. This was much easier to do in Windows 7. But anyways, I would really appreciate any help on overcoming this so I can restore my computer.

Have you made the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.

I'm selling my Lenovo Twist and want to get it back to factory state, INCLUDING the original configuration for the partitions. See, during the lifetime of my Lenovo Twist I created a separate partition to store my personal files (documents, pictures, music, skydrive) and a partition for File History, but now that I'm selling it I want those partitions gone and the space to go back to the C: partition. When I do it via the Windows 8 "Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows", it deletes everything in the partition but does not delete the partition itself. So it's not in essence a true "factory reset". Is there any way to do it directly through Lenovo, maybe in the pre-booting phase?

Answer:Factory Reset NOT from within Windows

in my pc was not working, but in yours it may be. press f11 in pre boot phase as the logo appears and should start a factory refresh. If you already reparted the Q restoring partition may be gone. I m not an expert, i just read it as the "official" factory reset from lenovo. You ll find tutorials...if not working I have no idea Good luck

Look in my computer and it will tell you if you have a partition on it with W/7,
If so it is just a matter of tapping F10 or F11 at start up to get into it.
Or try System repair in safe mode [keep tapping F8 or f5 at start up].

Hello, I have an older (2007 ish) ASUS laptop that has Windows 7 installed.  It is rarely used so I'm not in the market for a new laptop, but it is running extremely slow.  Will not download updates, etc.  There is some sort of conflict.

I'd like to wipe the whole thing clean but here's my dilemma.  Windows Office is installed but I don't have the installation CD's.  If I do a factory reset, is there any bare-bones types of word available for download?

Really Word (and IE/Firefox) are all the laptop is used for, so I didn't know if there was some bare bones "light" version of Word out there.  Alternatively, is there anything I can download from the laptop now and reinstall after the refresh?

I just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new version of Office.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 and Factory Reset

What version of Office are you running? There are no bare-bones versions of Word unless you are talking about free programs that can open Office Documents. There are number of those including Kingsoft, Open Office, and Softmaker's Free Office.

I have an msi laptop with windows 7. I have been experiencing some issues with it. Last night I tried to do a factory reset. The one where you press F3 during startup. Everything seemed like it was going great. The progress bar was moving along. It got all the way to the end and nothing happened. I left it alone overnight hoping it was just slow. This morning it's still displaying the progress bar and the elapsed time is still ticking away. Nothing has changed. I don't know what to do! To add to my sense of panic, there is a note on the top of the screen clearly stating to not touch any key while the reset is happening. Clearly the computer is trying to mess with my mind on purpose.

Answer:Windows 7 factory reset is stuck

A factory reset should never take more than a couple of hours if that. Obviously something is wrong. If you were having issues before the reset the failure could be due to a hardware issue such as a failing hard drive. You will need to stop the reset.

Do you have access to another computer? If  you do then download UBCD and burn the iso to a CD on a Windows 7 or later computer by right clicking the iso file and selecting Burn Disk Image. Boot UBCD and at the menu screen select HDD > Diagnosis. Scroll down to Seatools for Dos and do the short/long tests. If Seatools for DOS does not detect your drive then at the UBCD menu screen select Parted Magic. At the Parted Magic desktop select Disk Health. It could be called GsmartControl. Run the short and long tests. If they pass boot UBCD again and use Memtest86+ to run a memory test. Let it run for at least 6 passes and preferably overnight.

Answer:How to factory reset without losing windows 10?

Hi, factory reset = have the PC restored to the state it was in when you bought it (as far as what's on the disk is concerned!).

If you bought it with Win 7, it will revert to Win 7, assuming you still have the relevant partition on your disk. Everything else on the disk will be lost. Repeat, everything.

You may wish to consider an in-place repair install which allows you to keep everything, and completely refreshes Windows.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

Alternatively, you can clean install Win 10, and it will automatically register since you have it installed already. That will only affect the partition on which you have Win 10 installed, but you will lose all programs installed and all settings you have configured, and you will lose all personal data on that partition.

Hope that helps.

Hi all,

Recently my computer has been encountering problems involving speed and whatnot, and I have found no method of fixing them. I have been looking to reset my PC, and went to do so through the built-in tool that is supplied on my ASUS laptop, by pressing F9 at startup. I chose to reset my PC, but it returned an error saying the recovery partition couldn't be found. So I went to do so through the PC settings, and it rebooted my computer and told me the reset failed. I checked and found the recovery partition using MiniTool Partition Wizard, so it still exists.

Apparently this is an error other ASUS users have found after updating to Windows 8.1. I don't know how to solve this problem, and figured I may as well reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 8 without all the ASUS bloatware and garbage. So I hunted for a Windows 8 ISO file, and failed. I've tried multiple methods. One involving using a product key to download Windows 8 to an ISO file through Microsoft's Windows 8 Setup, and that failed because the product key was OEM BIOS-based, and not retail.

So I'm stuck between two problems here:
I can either try and do a factory reset by somehow fixing the recovery partition through some miracle, or;With extreme luck find a Windows 8 Core ISO setup, and install that and refind the drivers for my PC.

Any help would be gladly appreciated for either. :/
PS: sorry for the overly-long sloppy post, it's really late and I'm too tired to think properly. Apologies for my stupidness.

So basically my computer has ceased to function on the latest windows 10 update, 100% disk usage is occurring at all times leaving the computer inoperable and I've found that reverting it to factory settings and not updating fixes that. Well the other night I clicked on update and shut down accidentally rather than sleep. I immediately went to factory reset it again and it finished and put me at the setup screen, at that point my power went out. Upon turning the computer back on it came up with the screen That shows the windows logo and has a loading circle, let this "load" for about 2 hours before shutting the damn thing off and rebooting. It takes me back to the same screen where I proceed to give it 8 hours, finally it takes me to a screen that says administrator and has another loading circle, I have now been on this screen for an additional 8 hours. I have no Idea what to do at this point, I have tried to reinstall windows from a DVD and from a USB but for some reason it tells me to insert actual boot media, I have tried multiple different win 7 and 10 isos on dvds and usbs and none will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I fear this os is slowly taking my sanity. Thanks.

So I'm trying to factory reset my laptop to no avail. I am trying to do it through windows PC settings but the app will not open and instead, it gives me an error. I have uploaded the screenshot with the error. I'm unsure if its malware or something but I really want to reset everything.

My internet has been super slow and we already had a tech guy come in from my ISP which they found something but are unsure if its what's causing my incredibly slow speed. I'd rather just try and figure out if its something in my computer (I've tried running a few things that takes a long time to download but they had not detected anything).

Hi: That is a very good question because according to the product specs from HP, it didn't come with Windows at all. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04168240 But if you are sure it came with W8 from the factory, when you do a factory reset, you will get W8 back on there again, and you will have to get the free upgrade to go back to W8.1.

Hi everyone,

just wondering why my computer randomly reset itself to its previous out of the box condition. Actually, not even that, I just put it on today and after I logged in it said it was configuring Windows...so I thought maybe it was just an automatic update that was being applied. However, my windows 8 theme has been changed, I have lost all of my tiles except maybe a few, and my desktop Icons have been cleaned up, not completely, just the ones I don't use often. Also, I am missing a lot of files from my documents, my desktop, my downloads and anywhere else I saved files. The browsers I use which are Chrome, Firefox and IE all start as if it was the first time they were used, also all of my bookmarks, saved passwords and all other records are gone. However, none of the software I installed has been changed or removed.

I checked my update history and according to that record I haven't received an auto update since July 21st. It is very unlikely that anybody else has used my computer in the last 12 hours because nobody else knows my password, nor can they guess it.

I am not sure what else to consider...any ideas...

Answer:Random Windows 8 Factory Reset?

Okay, all of a sudden, I log in today and everything is back to normal again. All of my files have been restored just the way they were. The theme has been restored, my tiles, my browsers, everything. Very strange, maybe it is a virus, either way I am not ready to mark as solved because it might happen again.

so here's what happened. I upgraded my Alienware M18 windows 8.1 to windows 10 and I didn't like it, I used the recovery thing to go back to windows 8.1. I thought its gonna take long so I left it overnight and when I checked my laptop it shows me a bluescreen saying a critical error 0xc0000001 so I tried passing through that blue screen and I managed to get through it but when I wanted to restore factory settings using windows 8.1 every time it restarts to start the reset the blue screen appears again so it won't let me restore to factory settings so what I did I upgraded it again to windows 10 and restored it to factory settings, by the time the restore is finished it was on windows 10, I tried doing the factory reset again but It's still on windows 10. now my laptop is totally empty. when I got my laptop it has an alienware respawn, steam and other stuffs, now my laptop is like an ordinary laptop, no alienware softwares, I didn't do anything when I got my laptop so anything about the saving things on a CD I did not do that.

Before I start let me just say how I'm not a pro at computing, so I may need some terminology explained.
So I got my HP pavilion at Christmas time (8 months ago) and it had windows 8.1 installed on it. Then, on the 29th on July I got windows 10 upgrade for free as many other people did. I decided to factory reset my laptop to clear everything off of it, because I had a lot of unwanted stuff building up on it. After it reset it attempted to load then came up with a blue screen and a message saying something like ':( we ran into an error and need to restart. We will restart for you' and a message below saying error to research: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. The laptop will then restart and come up with the same message endlessly. I have looked on multiple forums which said to install the windows 10 ISO and media creation tool onto a USB then plug it into the laptop. I have done this but I don't think the laptop is reading the USB and is still trying to boot itself. I cannot use any functions (f2 f8 f10 or f12) and i don't have a windows disc where I can reinstall windows again fresh. I really need help as it hasn't been working for days now. All replies appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE after factory reset. windows 10

I had the exact same problem when trying to reset windows 10 after the upgrade. Same error message on two devices. So I had no choice but to reinstall windows 8.1 and then upgrade to 10. You are going to have to get your PC to boot via USB or CD somehow. If you cannot boot using USB like you mentioned and cant find the windows 8.1 disc to reinstall then you have another option. I'm assuming that you can boot with a disc, you said you just don't have one. Use the media creation tool to mount the ISO to a CD and reinstall Windows 10 from the CD. I use Image Burn to mount ISOs to CDs. You SHOULD be able to install Windows 10 fresh from that CD and skip the ques for product key and will activate automatically because you already upgraded to Windows 10. You say you cannot use any function keys? That is how I get windows to boot with a CD so there may be some workaround you can do to get it to boot from CD. Maybe someone more advanced with computers can answer that, I'm really not sure. When that happened to me I was still able to use the function keys to boot from a CD. I hope that helps somewhat. I know what it's like to be in your position and I know it sucks, sorry.

Well...eMachines was acquired by Gateway...which was acquired by Acer...which no longer supports the eMachines line.  See http://www.neowin.net/news/acer-ditching-cheap-emachines-pc-brand .

Both Gateway and eMachines seem to have a history of possibly faulty recovery mechanisms.

The only thing I can suggest is to contact someone at the eMachines website and try to get replacement disks,

Then worse issues started like the system restore not saving any restore points, not allowing me to manually create restore points...

I tried all the normal stuff.

Sfc Scan came up clean, Check disk came up clean, AVG and Malwarebytes scans were clean....

It seemed like the longer I left it on the better it ran, but anytime it restarted it got terrible again. Then about a week ago I tried to do another Check Disk, I scheduled it and restarted the PC as I was leaving for the day.
When I got in the next morning I checked the event log and no Check disk was on there. So I tried it again that day and the same thing happened.

Then yesterday it all blew up. I was on my PC it was mostly running ok, except for skype which would not properly connect. Since I need that program working to do my job I restarted the PC.

It would let me enter my password but then was stuck on the Welcome screen for about 30 minutes.
So I powered down and tried to boot into safe mode, and it did the same thing, stuck on the welcome screen.
So I powered down again and went into start up repair. Startup repair failed.

I used a command prompt to run check disk on C: and it only took about 30 seconds which I found odd but it said it came up clean. I also did it on DBackup) and it also took about 30 seconds and came up clean. Then I did it on EOS) and it was going extremely... Read more

Answer:Windows will not boot - even after factory reset

It may be a corrupt Windows Update, is your PC set to auto update?
Perhaps another reset but this time set updates to notify.

Also check the disk health with its manufacturer's tools.

I have factory reset once before with windows 10 and it let me keep windows 10 when I did it. But now I want to do it again but it is showing me a notice that if i reset, I will go back to windows 7. Is there a way I can factory reset my pc while still keeping windows 10?

Also I have another question but I don't want to make another thread about it. In games such as cs go, why is my game freezing for no reason? About every 30 sec - 1 min, i freeze for about 5-10 seconds. Between the freezes, i get split second freezes. This is really annoying me. Anybody know how to fix? I am getting a constant 200 fps and 10 ping

Hi.
I read the sticky on Factory Reset which is very interesting.
As I have had a lot of problems with my old Vista machine lately I was
wondering about Factory Reset or Windows Reinstall.
I have the Recovery Disc that came with the machine 8 years ago.
As a novice I would very much appreciate member views on this topic.
Thanks.

Answer:Factory Reset or Windows Reinstall.

What is the make and model # of your computer?
Be sure to backup all personal files you want to keep to a USB HDD first.
Your computer probably has a Recovery Partition which you would access pressing a certain key at bootup. For many manufacturers that is the F11 key depending on make.
Or boot up off of your Recovery CD. Either option will wipe all personal files and installed programs and set the computer back to Factory Defaults like it came in the box. If neither of those options work, and you have a retail copy of Vista or Windows 7 disc you can boot from that disc and do a Clean install.

Hello, I was using windows 10(64-bit) up until last month. Then my laptop hard drive crashed and I had to replace it, after that i ran the recovery discs provided by HP to recover it back to FACTORY SETTINGS. The laptop originally came with windows 8.1(64-bit). Now my question is would it upgrade back to windows 10 automatically or would I have to install windows 10 externally?

Answer:Upgrade to Windows 10 after factory reset

Hi, You have to re-install Windows 10, it won't upgrade automatically. Please use the following instructions to create Windows 10 installation media and install to your machine. You can do a CLEAN install    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 During the installation process, it will ask for a key, please skip this and continue. Windows 10 will activate when you come onlne. Regards.

I have a few years old acer Aspire one (use it as a backup).   Its out of warranty.   I used the factory reset software.  Now I cant activate Windows with the product key that I have.  Window was already installed on this computer when I bought it new (acer installed). I cant get any help from the store I bought it in and since this is out of warranty I seem not to get support from acer (maybe I should consider that when I buy more computers for my family and company).  It seems strange to me that because the software was installed by acer the product key is not working.  I did reset an old HP in december without any problems. So there must be a way around it, does anybody have the answer? Best regards, Jon H.

Hi my recently purchased HP 15 Notebook started freezing a lot and the disk light was staying on continuously. I spoke to a technician and he instructed me to perform a PC reset.

After waiting several hours I realised my PC was stuck at 41% and then after waiting several more hours to see if it would continue it said "There was an error resetting your PC. No changes have been made". I am able to use my PC in Safe Mode but if I perform a Virus Scan or use chkdsk it freezes after some time.

Still unsure what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am trying to use the Hp recovery feature to reset my laptop back to the factory default OS windows 8, however when i try to launch into the recovery enviorment using the HP Recovery manager application i am faced with an error "Can?t open file: X:\sources\Recovery\tools\HP\Rita-tool\". i did see the article here http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758961 stating to download an update to fix this issue, but it did not prevent me from getting this error. my thought is that the HP recovery applications is not truly installed on my OS, im thinking this because it does not show up in the programs and features section in the control pannel, however the files are still intact for it from when i transitioned to windows 10. is it possible to re-install this application properly? i still have the recovery partition on my hard drive i just need a way to load it.

Hello,
I want to perform a factory reset on Dell Inspiron M511R that came with Win7 preinstalled. Do I need Windows Product Key?
The CoA label is sticked on the bottom of the laptop and after years of usage it just became unreadable. The computer is functioning normally so far.
Can I get the WPK somehow? (The same or a new one.)
Thank you.

Answer:factory reset and Windows Product Key

You can do a clean install of Windows 10, as long as the system has been activated with Win 10 and has it digital license.  Just skip past where they ask for a license key.
Doing a factory reset over a newer OS may be a problem.  Are you wanting to do that because you need some of the OEM utilities?  It is usually best to do clean installs, especially when changing OSes..
I will assume the system was not using a UEFI bios which means the license in not there.  Some third party software may be able to retrieve a key but I have no experience.  If you have OEM recovery media, it might work, maybe someone else will know for sure.

Hi,

I'm trying to reboot my Windows 8 (factory reset). I followed the tutorial of eightforums.com, though
it is still not working. I tried three differents things

1. I went to settings, change PC settings, general then remove everything and reinstall windows but I had the following error message "Insert media, some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files".

2. After booting my usb key with the installation files, I restarted my computer then I went to "Troubleshoot"
then "Reset your PC" and I had the following error message "Insert your Windows installation or recovery media to continue". So failure

3. The last thing I found do not do a factory reset, but ask me where to build the OS between 8 different partition. (I have Debian, Ubuntu (which doesn't work) and windows 8 and one "shared file" between Debian and windows8

Thanks

Answer:Restore my windows 7 to its factory reset

Hi

Please take a look at the bottom of your laptop and check whether there is a COA sticker like the below one.

If yes, you can use the key printed on that sticker to perform a clean installation. Please refer the detailed guide written by "gregrocker" for more info.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

The guide covers everything you need to know and includes download links for legal versions of Windows 7. Make sure to download the exact edition of Windows 7 image which will be printed on the sticker ( ie Pro means Professional ). After performing the clean install, use phone based activation as online activation is not supported for OEM installations.

Thanks.

Kind of late to ask, but what was the problem & what other fixes did you try before attempting the factory reset? The reset is a somewhat drastic move & you may end up losing everything. Hopefully you backed up all your files 1st.

Hi, I have recently done a factory reset on my computer due to lag in a game that I use to never lag. I went into the windows 8 settings and went under update and recovery and after it was done my computer was unbelievably slow, I have updated everything and I have done a full virus/malware scan with Malwarebytes pro and Avast. I tried SFC SCANNOW in CMD, uninstalled boatware, checked startup, cleans, defragment and I contacted Windows and I have to pay $90 for a one time use software thing which I don't have the money for at the moment. I even got agents from Windows to remotely control my PC but they all told me I have to buy this software for a "guaranteed" fix. Any help will be very appreciated

Hello

So I Factory reset my Asus laptop because it was running kind of slow.
When I turned on my laptop there was an error saying that My Computer shut down and I need to restart the Windows installation. I didn't know how to do that so I went to Google and youtube for help. After trying to fix the error I ended up having a 64% loop saying installing windows and then restarting many times without stopping. So I tried to make a bootable USB to try to reinstall windows but it asked for a key wich I'm not sure where to find.
Oh and this was a windows 8 laptop but it came with a free Windows 10 upgrade.
If you have any ideas on what I should do please help and thank you!

I bought a laptop from eBay, not sure what model or anything, but it's HP. I was having some issues that *I* caused, as well as I couldn't reset the password to the User Profile I used because the previous owner didn't remove the account and such. Long story short, I did a factory reset of the laptop, and everything went fine until I logged into the new User Profile I made for the computer, and not only was my max screen resolution not as high as it should've been (the maximum I can do right now is 1024x768) but the entire look of the computer, from Windows Internet Explorer to my Icons and Start menu look extremely dated, not at all what it looked like before the factory reset. I just need to know if there's some way to remedy this, and if anyone else has had this issue. I couldn't find anything about it on the internet. If anything else, will this effect how my computer runs games and such.

Hi all,
I've been attempting to do a factory reset on my sister's Acer Aspire but have been running into issue after issue. Starting with issues getting a working usb boot drive, got that sorted then it turned out her product key wouldn't work so I bought a new one. Now when I enter the key and select the non-custom option to install I get this message: "The computer started using the Windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart the upgrade. [Do not select Custom [advanced] to perform an upgrade. Custom ]advanced] installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings."
So I removed the usb drive and attempted a restart only to discover I can't get Ctrl-Alt-Del to work on her laptop....grrrrr. I tried exiting the install and load again without usb but of course that justs takes me back to the start of the whole process. Then I read somewhere to make sure that your usb drive is not the main choice in BIOS for reboot...check and still can't get past this error message. I can't access any other methods on the desktop as have no desktop as of yet! Please, please help, I've run out of ideas :(

Answer:Windows 10 Factory Reset Issues

Going to say right off that I have very little knowledge on computers, so I probably won't understand any complex solutions. Hopefully it won't have to come to that.

My mom factory reset her computer as a last resort after we couldn't fix the multitude of problems it had, but after the reset completed, Windows refused to install back onto the system. Originally we had been getting a message that Windows 7 was not compatible with her laptop (which is store bought Acer, not custom-built). However, prior to the reset we had been running Windows 7 just fine. This message, which included an error code, only showed up one time, and we haven't been able to get the error code since (unfortunately I never wrote it down).

Now when we try to start it, it says "setup is starting services." That operation fails, and we get a pop-up that says "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation." Clicking OK just makes the same message pop-up again, and no matter how many times we restart the installation, we just return back to this.

The only solution I've seen suggested in my research of the problem is to try reinstalling Windows via the OS installation disc. However, to my knowledge we have never had a disc to do this with, so that isn't an option for us.

Are there other solutions? My mom's schooling depends on having a working computer, so we're understandably freaking out.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows 7 Cannot Install After Factory Reset

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would first try to recover your files this is a little complicated but there's a good video available
Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS

Then after that I would just go ahead and prepare for the worst case and buy win-7 again from either Newegg or Amazon
If you know which bit 32 or 64 and 7 Home Premium or 7 Pro you had before ?
If not post the SNID and brand computer and we might be able to look it up on the manufactures website for you,
The SNID is a tag on usually the bottom of a laptop and or on the side of a desktop that also has the windows activation key on it = We do not need the Key just the SNID # it will tell everything about the machine you bought.

Hi.
I have a Toshiba Satellite a500-19x which is about 2 years old. I have had problems with factory reset on the laptop and would like some advice on what might be the problem.

I have done a factory reset on the laptop a few times and each time there was a problem, which I will do my best to explain. What happens is as follows -

Starts factory reset and all goes well. Asks for User Name, Keyboard Layout ect starts to install setup and then start up to a brand new homepage.Next it shuts down. Automatically boots up again, goes through this all again 'Installing setting for System Restore' and then shuts down, boots up and repeat and repeat.

It will do this for maybe 30 minutes before it stops. The computer will turn on and work fine after like factory new.

I brought it back to the shop and they said something about Windows was not installed properly on the laptop at the start and that is why it done it.

The hard drives crashed about a year ago and were replaced through the shop and all worked fine.

However now I would like to preform a factory reset just to spruce up the laptop but am afraid it will still have this problem.

Any help/suggestions or fixes would be appreciate and feel free to ask for more info in case I left anything out.

Thanks

Answer:Windows 7 Factory reset problem

How are you doing the system restore. Is it from a partition on the Hard Drive or through a set of recovery disks. If you are doing it from the hard drive and the drive was going bad this could have caused the problem. Also if a shop reinstalled the operating system they may not have put the recovery partition on the drive. In this case you would need recovery discs. If you do not have them, they can be ordered through the manufacturer.
