Synaptics driver stopped working

Question: Synaptics driver stopped working

Yesterday my touchpad was suddenly turned on and I tried to disable it with the settings I always used (configuration screen) However, when i tried to open the control zone for it, it told me it couldn't connect to the driver. I decide to try and reinstall the driver, but it said another driver was already on my computer. I could delete it within the program files on the configuration screen, but there was nothing. So I couldn't deinstall it at all. Its really annoying because I never use my touchpad and my hand keeps brushing over it, so my mouse or text keeps going away. Please I would like a solution. I can add files to what my screen keeps saying; but it's all in dutch. (Also my smart connect technology keeps flashing a yellow triangle and I have no idea what I have to do against that)

Preferred Solution: Synaptics driver stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok So hunted through propably about 50 websites going through all the forums for a solution to this problem..
heres the pain...

Compaq pressario cq50 (not that this matters)

its a clients PC , Touch pad randomly stops working... Have updated the drivers... and still problem persists.

Originally when the touchpad stopped working i used the keyboard to navigate to Control pane/ mouse / hardware, and the ps2 touchpad had dissappeared.

Now since the update the touchpad still becomes unresponsive and still appears in Control panel/ mouse/ hardware, within the mouse control panel there is the option on the synaptics tab to reset the device, when i do this the touchpad becomes responsive again.

Looking through the forums most people seem to think this is a power issue and most people have found a solution of removing the battery and replacing it and this gets the touchpad working again.

however this is only a temporary fix.

im looking for a hardcore solution.

does anyone know if theres any alternative to the synaptics touchpad, or have any idea what could be causing it to become unresponsive.

Whilst typing this the mouse has now become responsive, and the keyboard from time to time shows a bit of lag, and everynow and then becomes unresponsive for a few seconds.

This is a clients laptop, and is putting me to the end of my tether.

i have explained to the client that i have exhausted my knowledge on this device and have not found a fix, so any solution is worth a try.

Hi!I have an acer aspire 8920g and my touchpad just suddenly stopped working(it won`t respond when i touch it).NOTE;This is the touchpad on the left side of the keyboard not the mousepad.i have tried updating the driver but it didn`t help.
Also my screen resolution keeps changing everytime i exit programs like games or media centre-tv etc.I jus bought this laptop so was wondering if i should take it back. Will someone please help!!!

Answer:synaptics touchpad stopped working

I'd take it back. A new computer should not have two hardware problems while still under warranty.

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

2. Is there an On/Off button above the touchpad...there is on my HP. Did you accidently turn it OFF

Hi - the touchpad has simply stopped working after the last couple of rounds of Windows updates and I didn't note which one, so not sure if I have a suitable restore point.

Tried downloading latest drivers from Toshiba website and it makes no difference. Also tried uninstalling these and installing the Elan drivers and these didn't install properly at all. I found some slightly older Synaptics drivers, which one of my other PCs runs ok on and although they installed ok, the touchpad does nothing. I'm relying on an external mouse, which is less than ideal.

Worryingly, the Toshiba website says it doesn't recognise my PC's serial number, yet it was bought in the UK through Asda online. All help and ideas welcome...

Answer:Satellite P70-A-11R - Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

I had the same issue. After Windows update installation, the touchpad didn?t work.

The touchpad has been disabled? why? I guess some Microsoft updates disabled the touchpad.

Solution was simply: I could enable the touchpad again using the function keys: FN + F5

I want to thank in advance for any responses I get to this thread.

I have a Gateway laptop model MT6840. It has a Synaptics touchpad. A couple of days ago, the touchpad stopped working completely. I took my laptop out of sleep mode, and the icon for the touchpad in the system tray was simply gone. I checked Control Panel: Mouse: Device Settings for the Synaptic touchpad, but all options are merely grayed out, and the device does not register on the computer anymore.

I believe I have tried almost everything. I first tried rebooting. I then tried disconnecting my external mouse and then rebooting. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from the Gateway website. I looked on Google, but found nothing of use. Alas, none of these things have worked.

This is a bit frustrating because, although I do have an external mouse, it is much more convenient not to have to bring the external mouse around when I transport it. And since I'm a college student, I need to get around with my laptop quite often.

I don't believe it is anything related to the hardware because it stopped working when the software (apparently) magically disappeared. I would really like to solve this problem.

If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. If there is some detail I should mention that would help, please also let me know.

Answer:Gateway MT6840: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Well, I decided to reboot again and go into the BIOS. I did, changing absolutely nothing (even choosing the "discard changes" exit option), logged onto Windows, and the problem was solved.

I have no idea how that worked, but it did.

I can't find a delete thread option, so if an admin is reading this, go ahead and just delete this.

Answer:Synaptics Pointer Device Stopped working overnight???

Most laptops have a key sequence or a button to enable/disable the touchpad. Have you checked for that? Maybe the FN and F6 or something similar?

For diagnostics and troubleshooting it would be easier if you got your hands on a USB mouse.

I installed on a U350 Win7 64-bit the new Synaptics driver, v15.2.7 which have Scrybe Gesture Workflow Technology. I restarted the system and saw that the touchpad was working OK, except Scrybe software which does not work at all, launching any of the programs/internet shortcuts. So I uninstalled the driver and I'm looking only for the Synaptics driver, not bundled with Scrybe software. Do you have a download link for 64-bit please? Thanks.

Since I received my Inspiron 17 5000 (5749), Win8.1 x64 the Synaptics touchpad works but the driver settings do not. When I go to modify settings from the control panel, clicking on the Synaptics DELL Touchpad link/button, nothing happens. I tried going directly to the executable in c:\program files\synaptics and it will launch but when I click on three of the four buttons in the GUI, nothing happens. When I click on the first one it crashes the application. I have tried installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the driver to no avail.

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite A100.
I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works?

I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install).
Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10".

Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite A100: Where to get a working Synaptics touchpad driver for Vista?

Usually the driver from the Toshiba page should be fully valid and should works.
Please note that there are different A100 series and if you download any drivers, be sure that you choose the right drivers for the right notebook series.

Did you check if the touchpad settings can be set and changed in the control panel??
As far as I know the touchpad properties can be set in the ?Mouse? option which can be found in the control panel!!!

In the ?Device settings? tab you should select the ?synaptics touchpad? and press ?settings?.
New window will pop up and you will find many options controlling the touchpad settings!!!

I have recently Install Windows 8 Pro, I have Sony Vaio VPCEE3J0E. Initially, I downloaded Sony's Pointing Driver (Alps) - 7.107.505.106 and it was just for basic touchpad function.
However, I found about Synaptics and downloaded the latest Synaptics V 16.2.21 and installed it.

Now once I go to my Control Panel ==> Mouse ==> Synaptic Properties, it shows nothing, there isn't any option for touchpad gesture etc.

I don't know why it isn't working but I think it should have worked. Please if anyone could help me.

One more thing I don't know why, no matter how many times I install in my
pointing device properties ==> Device Settings, I have Standard Pointing Device instead of Synaptics Pointing Device.

Is it that my notebook doesn't support Synaptics drivers

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

I am having a problem with the DVD/CD Drive on my HP Laptop (model dv2845se). A few weeks ago, my DVD/CD drive stopped responding. It would not read any disk that I put in. I tested the disks on other computers, and they worked just fine. So, I contacted HP and they said I should get a replacement DVD/CD drive. I bought the replacement and installed it. It updated the driver when I turned on my computer ? but when I went to put in a disk, it still would not read it.
Again, I contacted HP Support and they told me to check the registry to delete upper and lower filters. I checked the registry, but the upper and lower filters were not there.
Finally, the guy at HP said that it might be a problem with my IDE controller or motherboard. :cry
I was just wondering if anyone knew how I could fix this ? or how I can diagnosis the problem. The laptop is no longer under warranty, but it is still a great computer ? it?s fast and I?ve managed to keep it fairly clean. I would hate to have to go out and buy another one. So, if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!

Check the network cable(s) and that the plugs are pushed in properly.
Disable, then enable the network adapter in the Windows network settings.
If that doesn't work, go to a command prompt and run: ipconfig /release then run: ipconfig /renew

I have a GTX 970 Zotac Extreme Core Edition and the updated drivers. When I first installed the updated driver it doesn't crash as much when time flew by it crashed when I am watching something or playing. The only solution to this problem is by rolling it back and using the driver in the CD that my video card provided. I want to use the updated drivers.

Hi guys, I recently bought motherboard, ram and a graphic card. Ever since i got it it wasn't working properly. Whenever I play or surf through browser i randomly get black screen and after that "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I tried a lot of solutions but none of them worked, then i went to the store where i bought that and gave them to test it. They said it was working perfectly, i took it back and again i had the same problem. Only difference i noticed that they had smaller monitor like 1300ish resolution but i have HD one 1680x1050. I checked my ram with ramtest it didin't find any errors also I ran some gpu test and also no errors. I discovered that this problems occurs after i run more programs at once. Whenever i am at game and i alt tab to check facebook(chrome) this problems occurs right away. What solutions i tried: Downclocking my card, changed like 10 drivers, turned off aero and put all visual settings to performance, did a ram test, did a gpu test, tried changing a lot of things in nvidia control panel nothing worked, did a clean installation of drivers, reinstalled windows, bios is at lastest version, bumping my card voltage, editing timeout in regedit. My startup is clean, no other services except microsoft ones. And one last thing after i play a game for example 1 hour my fps will drop dramatically. Please guys any suggestion what could it be?
I will upload event error, its in rar file.

I bought this laptop just in November 2015 and had used the optical DVD driver for about 2-3 times. AFter this, when I tried to use, it spits out the Disc has "No Disc". I uninstalled the driver from device Manager and reinstalled it but its not working in any way. I think there is something minor but I just cant figure it out. Need some feedback on this before I take it to Acer repair centre.

Answer:V3 572-78K Optical driver stopped working

Hi ak5 It sounds like that your DVD drive is having issues reading a disk. Try several different disks - blank & Pre recorded (be it a film, software or a CD of music). If every disk comes back as "No disk" then there is a fault with your DVD drive. If it is just disk burning that gives you the problem, then try a different brand of disk. Some DVD drives are fussy on what they work with.

Occasionally I'll be watching a youtube video (this only happens in fullscreen), and it will freeze up and I can still hear the audio. After 2-3 seconds it will resume and in the bottom right it displays something along the lines of "AMD display card stopped working and has recovered". A few times I've even got the VIDEO_SCHEDUALER_INTERNAL_ERROR on the BSOD.

I checked and the drivers are up to date. Any suggestions?

Answer:AMD Display Driver Has Stopped Working

Hi there,

have you had these issues all the time? Or did they just start happening after a driver update from AMD? It's not always wise to update the videocard drivers. Sometimes newer versions introduce new issues.

I for instance also have an AMD videocard. All drivers newer then 13.1 result in a crash in 40% of the time I close Internet Explorer.

So, what I'm trying to say is. Try to downgrade your AMD drivers to the latest version where you didn't have this issue.

Good luck with it!

Hi if the driver that came on cd is not causing issues just use that and wait for another driver update. Are you having any problems with the driver that came with the card if not don't fix something that's not broke.

Personally, I never update drivers unless I have a reason to do so, such as a general tuneup once a year, something isn't working properly, or new functionality has been added that I need. Otherwise, if it's not broken, don't fix it!

Try rolling the driver back and see if that helps. When did this start? Did you recently install something else on the computer such as driver updates?

Firstly, my Nvidia GTX560 got this problem since my friend made my PC. It used to get the error (NVIDIA windows kernel modedriver <driver version> has stopped working but recovered). I tried updating drivers and it didn't work. I then changed to windows 8 and still got the error but also getting the error 'dxgi error device removed/hung' (see my other posts). I then swapped my graphics card with my friend if it solved the problem. He had an amd radeon and I still got the error 'amd display driver has stopped working but successfully recovered' but this time when crashing, sometimes my display goes off as if it is disconnected (but it is connected). When crashing it has a buzzing noise and sometimes has a distorted blue screen. Could anyone please help as I have been getting so many errors on my PC constantly? Thanks a lot! Alright so here's the deal, got a used/refurbished by a wannabe geek as an early christmas gift.  All well and good until i run out and buy guild wars for it only to find it isn't the greatest machine to be playing games on.  The game WILL run on the computer (although slow and choppy) but everytime I visit a merchant, a collector, or even open my inventory it will go crazy.  It will either freeze, shut down and restart completely or a box will pop up with some numbers and say that the display driver stopped working normally and then my desktop will have this weird look until the computer is restarted.  It is SOOOO frustrating. I seriously restart the compter a dozen times a day trying to play that game.I don't even know where to begin with this problem so help pointing me in an direction would be very appreciated.I know almost nothing about the computer except that it says compaq evo on the front. I keep getting that error while playing Skyrim on my GTX 295. It's not just Skyrim, it happens with Crysis 2 VERY often, like every 20 seconds, it happens with Deus Ex, only once though, as it crashes to desktop afterwards.

I have tried every possible driver combination, i updated to the latest beta driver and it still happens. I ran the program in XP compatibility, ran it in Iobit's Game Mode (which disables some services), and as Administrator mode. It still happens.

I ran it windowed, and also ran it as Single GPU card (which reduced the frequency of this happening, but didn't stop it), ultimately, i ran out of ideas.

Here's something interesting: Whenever i turn my computer off for 15 minutes or so, the game runs fine for 3 hours at least. My first thought was overheating, but i used EVGA Precision to measure the temperature, and it didn't go higher than 60 C when it crashed. It did, however, report a sudden spike of GPU- A usage to 100% when the error message appeared, but B remained constant.

Anyone have suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

My ati2dvaa driver stopped working. Via Google I found this thread and utilized the EVEREST program as howard_hopkinso recommended. However, EVEREST did not list a video driver! Is this because it is integrated with the motherboard?

What the heck happened? I don't want to install the wrong driver from ATI and screw things up worse.

If it is relevant, my system is not the "mini-tower" that "Dell Optiplex GX240" brings up in Google. It is a large tower version.

Thanks, let me know if I need to give you any more information.

Answer:ati2dvaa driver stopped working

I forgot to mention that I have already deleted the existing driver via "add and remove programs," without really looking at the name of the driver. Sigh.

However, maybe the problem was that it wasn't quite the correct driver in the first place, so it may not be all bad.

This driver stops working after about 15minutes of playing Table Tennis, and the screen goes all psycodelic, then the system restarts.I send error to Microsoft, a new window popsup ,says this can be fixed,go here and down load new driver.

Now it seem I can only install new driver in a folder.I tried extract the files (I'm not sure what that did, or does.)

The new driver is not in my device manager or programs.

Do I have to get rid of the old before I get the new?

Btw,the computer works fine... unless of course I play T/T for 15min.

At random times my screen will go black then it will come back on soon after and I will get a little bubble coming from the taskbar saying "Display driver igfx has stopped working but has recovered" or something like that.

I google'd it but most of the results seem to relate to World of Warcraft. I do not play or have World of Warcraft installed.

perfmon report attached.

Answer:Display driver igfx stopped working

"igfx" is your Intel video driver. Update the Intel chipset drivers.

However, PERFMON reports that you are experiencing excessive paging, because only 78 MB RAM is available. You have 1 GB installed physical RAM; Vista really needs 2 GB minimum. I would suspect that the video is going out because there is not enough RAM for your video to function. Paging can only do so much.

Happy Holidays!

Hey Guys I'm stumped. I just did my yearly refreash of the operating system. Reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. When I first install everything it works just fine but then it looks like either windows update or lenovo software update attempts to update the digitizer driver and the pen starts to act like a mouse. The tablet is mutlitouch and those functions are not effected just the digitizer. If I reinstall again the same thing happens. I am not sure of where to get the correct drivers as it appears that Lenovo doesn't have them. What do you guys think.

Answer:X201T Digitizer Driver stopped working

Yes, I ran a system update last night (which installed "multi touch" and "nav point" drivers) and I woke up today to find my computer no longer recognizes pen nor touch input.  This is a huge problem -- is Lenovo aware of this? EDIT: I also installed a generic Windows update, which installed "Wacom Two Finger Touch" drivers.  I did them both at the same time so I'm not sure which update was responsible for breaking touch.  On the Computer -> Properties screen, it states that this display does not accept pen or touch input.

Hi guys.
Last month I posted a message about my Gigabyte 9800GTX getting this error message in Vista 64 'The Display driver has stopped working...'.

I got it while using Photoshop CS4 (uses open GL), Google Earth and when I play games.

So I tested my 2x2GB RAM with MEMTEST86 last version and it was ok. I ran it on 4 4 4 12 as written over the sticks (though at default the BIOS sets them on 5 5 5 18).

I've changed my Mobo from Asus nVidia to Gigabyte Intel.

I've changed my PSU from 500W to ThermalTek 750W.

And here is the twist - I changed my GPU from nVidia to ATI Palit HD4870 1GB Sonic Dual Edition.

Still the error pops up to remind me it's still there....

So either I didn't test my RAM sticks perfectly or there's something with Vista.
I'm going to install XP and see how it works out for me. Meanwhile, if there's any Microsoft employee reading this... please pass it on to the big guys

you wont believe how much trial and error i've been going thru..first my work around to a problem i was having with playings videos of any kind, ( in wmp, power dvd MPC, etc etc) which i fixed by finally discovering that if i disabled teh aero theme finally allowed me to play videos with no freezing and hard rebooting... NOW i was playing COD5 and WARHEAD, and a few others... and within 10 mins of playing i get the msg driver stopped responding blablabla, and in some case just a BSOD....and NOW!!!! after playing with NCP i tried this option under manage 3d settings CONFORMANT TEXTURE CLAMP, i changed it from default which was USE HARDWERE to " USE OPENGL SPECIFICATION" and im telling u guys its seems to be working 100% for me( possibly a directX issue causing this? )..i played the first 3 levels of WARHEAD with out any problems or crashes..then to push it..i ended warhead and immediately started COD5 and play FINALLY a full level and a half with out ANY crashes( couldnt even play half a level before which was 5-10 minutes of gameplay)..all those still having the issue GIVE THIS A TRY and follow up with your results THANKs...hope this helps !!

ps: vista is like a baby..u just have to find a way to please it..once you do it'll work with you

Answer:those still having the driver stopped working issue..possible workaround!!

update: definetly working for me.. play 40 min of COD 5 straight with no issue whatsoever.. used get driver stopped responding pop up on bottom right after only 5-10 mins of gameplay...i just played 40 mins straight non-stop of COD5..then fired up CRYSIS quickly after and played for 10 mins with alot of intense fighting and action ..NO crash!... briefly some of the things i did: reset my cpu clock back to stock which is 3ghz 1333fsb.. set my ddr 2 ram to 800mhz i had it 1066mhz although its rated as pc8500 ( 1066mhz) my 680i i think is technically supposed only support up to 800mhz.. i basically went into bios and set linked clocks..everything to AUTO and just let everything be stock.... my 2bfg 8800gtx's OC2 are factory overclocked..i left them as is.. i do though have arctic cooling accel x8800 coolers on both which keep them pretty cool..40c idle/ 55-60c load, but b4 i changed my bios setting and nvidia control panel setting to set for opengl spec, didnt matter if the cards were cool or not..i still got crashes... i got single display setting and AFR1, left IQ at default ( QUALITY setting), and i didnt have to remove any sticks of ram i want my full 8GB!!! lol..

This is my second thread on sevenforums, my bsod issue was succesfully resolved by you guys(thank you so much for that) and I need help again

Sometimes my screen goes black or pink for 1-2 seconds then it becomes normal again, windows gives me a warning saying "display driver 296.10 stopped working and has recovered". This is happening for months now but it was very rare until recently.

There aren't any fps issues wih games, even when I play for full nights. But when im in areas which stresses my pc(like Orgrimmar), oftenly screen becomes shadowy for 1-2 sec, no display issues, just shadowy in color. When I close the game, there is a windows message saying my PC is not strong enough for Windows 7 aero colors and I should turn back to Windows 7 basic. This message has been showing since the first day of my pc.

My mobo slot went dead a few weeks ago and caused bsods, that slot is empty now and I am running with 2GB Gskill DDR3-1333 since then. Also, I reinstalled the windows from scratch and installed 296.10 drivers again. I get no more bsods since I stopped using the damaged ram slot but this problem remains.

What should I do to solve this?

My specs are,
Windows 7 Ultimate X64,
ASUS M4A78LT-M LE AM3 AMD 760G Motherboard with one dead mobo slot,

Answer:Display driver stopped working and has recovered

this problem is very common on Vista/7 OS. I have had this issue on my old PC too. I have spent hours looking for a working fix for this to no avail. The only thing that fixed this for me was changing my graphic card, but that might not work for you as there is a lot of things that might cause this.

Microsoft has a KB-article for this issue, you can try if their solutions work for you:

There is also post on this forum about this issue:

Hi. For the last three weeks I am almost regularly getting Display Driver nvlddmkm had stopped working and recovered successfully error. I have uninstalled and re-installed the latest drivers. I have even used driver sweeper before installation of new drivers. All to no avail. The error happens randomly. It hadn't occurred for the last five days but popped up again today. What can I do to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Display Driver has stopped working error

I was frequently having the same error, but was resolved when I installed the latest NVidia 306.97 driver. If you are not using that one, perhaps that will solve your issue too. (though your gpu is much newer than mine).

I downloaded a webcam driver and now my sound won't work. It says it's running and music is running, even the speaker's sound test will work, but nothing comes out except during the speaker test. I went to my sound options and the "realtek digital output" bar is moving and all, but that sound test won't work.

I also deleted the driver and restarted the computer. Still no sound. Help

Answer:Sound stopped working after downloading driver

Oh, also, there's no start up sound like there used to be either and I'm sure everything is still plugged in properly. It only stopped after I used to webcam on msn after downloading the driver. I think the computer thinks there is a mic on or something. I've tried adjusting all the settings and disabling it. Still nothing.

Hi you all

I often use photoshop, and I never had problems with this software.

But in my new computer, sometimes it doesn't start.
If I only start the software, no problem.
If I open an image, it continues on opening, without results, only the hourglass.

There is a small notice on the right-bottom of the desktop, that my screenshot-software can't catch.
Something like: the HD video driver *** stopped working and now it is recovered.

But the image isn't opened. I have to restart computer and try again. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't work only restarting photoshop

This is the video card characteristic. The NVidia software is updated.

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Video driver stopped working and recovered

At first, I was thinking maybe your GPU didn't have enough VRAM, but according to, the GT 745M has 2GB of VRAM (your notebook may be different). That should be plenty for PS. Check out some possible solutions below.

I have a few options you can try:

1) Clean install the latest driver. This will ensure that the driver software is cleanly installed and there are no previous drivers interfering. You can do this by downloading the latest stable driver from >>here<<, opening the installer, choosing the "Custom Install" option, and check the box that says, "Clean Install". Tell me if this helps.

2) Make sure Adobe Photoshop is up to date.

3) If the above solutions do not work, try checking out the Photoshop GPU FAQ from Adobe, which provides some tips for GPU troubleshooting. This is your best bet.

4) If the above solutions do not help, try posting to the nVidia forum or Adobe Photoshop forum since they may be able to provide you with some detailed solutions. For example, maybe your Photoshop settings are too high/intensive for your GPU. There are 2 nvidia forums you can try, the Driver Forum and/or the Mobile Hardware Forum. As for Adobe Forums, you can check out the Photoshop Forum.

Unfortunately, if no suggestions help, the card may be flawed.

I hope this helps. Best of luck.

I recently installed IE9 and ever since my graphics card seems to be struggling to cope.
Here are my PC details...

Sony Vaio
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT
2GB Go DDR2 SDRAM (667MHz)

IE8 would often hang randomly when clicking tabs etc...
This also happened with outlook when sending messages
I re-formatted my machine and the issues still occured.
Now I have upgraded to IE9 the graphics (when scrolling webpages) becomes more and more sluggish until the screen goes black for about 5 seconds then returns to normal and a window pops up from the tray saying the display driver stopped working and has recovered. When it recovers everything works quickly in IE9 until it gradually slows down (over the course of an hour or more) then the same thing happens again and again.

I have 2gb of RAM and I am only using about 50% of it so I don't see how it can be a RAM (I was monitoring as the browser got sluggish)
I've checked in my system to update the graphics driver but it said I have the latest.
I've run virus checks with AVG
I am running Vista

What are my options here?

Thx in advance

I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 8 (via BootCamp) and I was running games on Steam.

Randomly, the game froze, and my Xbox 360 controller stopped responding. When I exited out to try and fix the problem, the trackpad stopped working completely and the whole thing froze.

Upon restart, the trackpad simply doesn't work (still doesn't) and I have to use a mouse to control it at all.

I reinstalled all of the BootCamp drivers, and it still doesn't work.

Any idea why this could be?

Answer:TrackPad Driver Randomly Stopped Working

Found a fix. Just needed to go to Device Manager, found two errors with the trackpad, selected "Properties" then "Resintall Drivers", selected the drivers from the list (in WindowsSupport folder) and then updated them and everything works again.

Thanks anyway!

i think it might be the Power supply, and that the graphic card is not getting enough power to run, is that the case or should i be looking somewhere else ?

has any1 else had this problem aswell ? , if so i'd like to see some responses.

Answer:The Driver has stopped Working and Successfully Recovered

The dreaded "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" issue. This issue seems to be tied to Vista by the way of Microsoft's "Timeout Detection and Recovery of GPUs through WDDM"

Timeout detection: The Video Scheduler component of the Windows Vista graphics stack detects that the GPU is taking more than the permitted quantum time to execute the particular task and tries to preempt this particular task. The preempt operation has a "wait" timeout?the actual "TDR timeout." This step is thus the "timeout detection" phase of the process. The default timeout period in Windows Vista is 2 seconds. If the GPU cannot complete or preempt the current task within the TDR timeout, then the GPU is diagnosed as hung.

In short, if an application takes to long to execute a task, a timeout occurs and thus your lovely "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error. Unfortunately there is no one fix to this, and just about anything can cause it.

For me, my issue went away when I switched video cards. I had a 3870 that was overheating and had to be RMA'd. While awaiting my replacement, I decided to purchase an ATI 4850 - the surprise is that the display stopped responding error has been completely eliminated on my system.

Am I suggesting you replace your video card? No. There are various opinions on the cause(s) and solution(s) to the problem, and unfortu... Read more

...But not all the time. While I was playing Garrys Mod, my computer was working fine, the occaisional black screen and then recovering which it has been doing a lot recently. But last night it went really bad. It started showing strange colours in the screen and sometimes it was all over the screen and i had to wait for it to go. And then it suddenly went all blurry. So I quit the game and went onto my desktop. And it still was blurry (It's not my eyes) But it wasn't the usual blur. The computer had taken a small square and swapped it with the one next to it. and in the corner the usual "Display driver has stopped working and recovered.". I recently had to re-instal Windows (Vista) because of a startup failure. so when I had re-insalled it I re-installed all of the drivers. But I've obviously left something out. Because It keeps on doing this

My PC Specs are:

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
ATI Radeon HD 4670 GFX Card
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
^^ There are more to it, if you need it just tell me

I have Vista 64-bit and a Gateway FX Media Keyboard. I haven't installed anything, or changed anything. Randomly today I get two messages that say "Multimedia Keyboard Driver has stopped working..." on the task bar it says mHotKey. When I look up mHotKey in the start menu and click on it it comes up with the stopped working error message again. As a result of this problem 4 keys have been disabled on my keyboard including volume control (+ and -), CD drive Edject, and mute. This is highly annoying and I have tried to reinstall my drivers/repair them but no luck. I'm wondering whether I should uninstall the driver and then install it again. Please help!

My display driver keeps crashing whenever I try to play games. It doesn't matter what kind of game it is - it could be a full retail game or a simple, crappy browser-based game. It's just recently started doing this, and I haven't really made any changes to the computer.
I've tried troubleshooting the driver, checking for updates, and even performing clean boots, none of which fix the issue. The clean boots are never truly "clean" anyway, as there is one process that always enables itself upon startup: "FABS - Helping agent for MAGIX media database". Not sure if that's relevant or not. Oh whale.

I wonder if I can post this here, but I've been having problems with the ATI drivers for my HD Radeon 5770, 1GB, XFX XXX version. I had just recently wiped the computer due to the problems in an effort to locate the issue, reinstalling Win 7 and prior programs, then making a system image and repair disc just before putting two things back on it: MS Office 2007--an update that never seems to update for it I thought was the problem, but it wasn't, and the new ATI drivers (10.2 to 10.4 were messing up my display).

I keep getting the "(AMD) Display driver has stopped working and has recovered", after the monitor getting random flecks of whatever color, then the screen going entirely (insert solid color here) before giving that message. Sometimes it even freezes my computer and I'm forced to reset computer.

On the standard, generic drivers, everything was absolutely fine, but not on any of the ATI ones (even from the installation disc). I can't roll back the drivers to some previous version either.

The catch is that it only really does this when I'm doing anything else (writing an essay, watching youtube, watching House MD/some other video, chatting on AIM, surfing the web, just idle, etc.) other than gaming (Aion, WoW, Spore). It never does this when the game is running. In fact, it's absolutely fine.

Help please? D:

Answer:AMD - Display driver stopped working and has recovered

Having installed 7 fresh on an entirely new build with an MSI Radeon HD 5750 1gb model I never put the software disk in at all but went for the 10.4 right off the bat! There are no bugs with this latest Catalyst.

For simply removing the present version you have on now you simply run the setup all over but choose the uninstall option instead. Besides having drivers and the catalyst on things like Java, Adobe Flash Player, and other things haven't been installed on the fresh copy of Windows you have on now.
