I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I purchased my HP Spectre x360 (i7, 8GB, 256SSD, Windows 10) two days ago.It worked perfectly until midday today when the touch keyboard icon in the bottom right of the toolbar began to toggle on and off for no reason.  Simultaneously, the touch screen was unresponsive for the majority of the 13.3" display.  When the icon is not toggling, everything works fine.  This problem occurs (what seems like) at random times for random durations.I have done nothing outside normal use and checking to make sure there are no problems.My guess is it has something to do with switching from the various "360" modes and possibly the connectivity between the screen and keyboard panels.Has anyone else had similar problems?Are there any solutions already in place?

I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360 - 13-4101dx and Touchpad not working correctly. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the Touchpad sensitivities.If you will go to the section on Adjusting TouchPad pointing sensitivities it should help resolve the issue. You could  try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows 10.  Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed!I hope this helps.Thanks.

I just wanted to tell you your customer service is a disgrace. I just bought a brand new spectre x360 10 days ago and its touch screen goes crazy every few hours. I had to contact your support 4(!!!) times: first time they updated the BIOS, second time they updated the BIOS and the graphics driver and the third time they had me do a full system refresh, nothing has helped. When I called the support line the last time they told me I had to replace my laptop and that it would take 7-9 business days for it to get replaced once they take it away! I'm new here in Los Angeles and don't have another laptop, while school is starting I don't have any alternative laptop and can't make do without one! This is ridiculous, I'm never buying another HP product again in my life and will recommend everyone else to do the same.

About once everyday, my spectre x360 gets rapid ghost touches on a specific spot of the screen. Tech support updated the BIOS and graphic driver, and nothing worked. This is very annoying. It seems that many are experiencing similar issues. Was anyone available to solve the issue?

Just bought new HP Spectre 360 yesterday.  Took it home and the left touch pad button sometimes does not work and takes several tries to get it to click.  I've reset touchpad settings, I've downloaded the latest drivers, I've restarted computer, I've downloaded latest updates.  What else should I do to try and fix this???

I applied the BIOS Update F.32 Rev A using the HP Support Assistant. After applying the update my touch screen no longer works.HP Chat assist has only come up with the option to rebuild the machine. Has anyone else had problems with this BIOS Update?Is there anything I can do?Surely HP shouldn't provide this update for this model if it breaks it? Help appreciated.Peter

I just received my HP Spectre x360 15-bl000 and out of the box the touch screen is acting like it is being rapidly pressed on the very top and right of center, always in the same spot!  This makes it impossible to do anything on the computer because the mouse pointer keeps going to this spot and program windows keep closing immediately after opening beause of this.  Telephone support was of no help and suggested it was a hardware issue.  I have been a DELL and Lenovo user for years and this is my first HP computer.  This is not a good first impression.

Since purchasing my HP Spectre prior to Christmas I have experienced ghost tapping with the touch screen. Either as randomly timed taps in the same location or continuous taps in the same location. Resetting the device stops it from happening but within around 30 minutes to an hour of use the tapping returns and will be in a different location from the previous session. Having this issue from day one is very dissapointing and I wasn't expecting to have such an issue believing HP to provide quality products. Since searching for the issue I can see that others also experience the fault. Seems odd that a premium product can have so many units with faults and a fault that was known about in previous products. I'm not confident that a repair will give me much assurance that the issue won't return so may seek a refund from where I purchased it. A little saddened by that as I was looking forward to owning the new Spectre 360. I haven't experienced HP support before, do others have experience and have others had a good experience with the new Spectre 360? I like the device so would prefer to get it fixed, but I start Uni next week and will struggle to be without a laptop.

Got my Spectre X360 15.6 2017 edition few days ago and immediately notice this very annoying issue. In short, the touch function is disabled for about 2 seconds after using the pen, which means everytime when you finish writing something with the pen, you have to wait for about 2 seconds before the touch screen responds to your finger input.  This is really annoying, it slows down my workflow dramatically. And I have never experienced this kind of issue before on any other devices using NTrig digitizer, and I have used a lot NTrig devices (Fujistu 550, HTC Flyer, Sony Vaio Duos, Vaio Flips, Microsoft Surfaces). But I did noticed similar issues on some Wacom AES devices like the Thinkpad Yoga 14. I do remember HP mentioned somewhere that the pen uses Universal Windows Pen protocol, Is this part of the new protocol? Anyway, please please please, HP! Fix this problem and release a firmware update ASAP, I really like the Spectre X360, You guys did a good job in general, but this is a deal breaker, I would hate to send it back.

I have the Spectre model X7V20UA#ABA and based on this answer bought an HP Active Pen.  I cannot get teh machine to acknowledge the pen in any way. I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same.The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. Question: HP Spectre x360

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Question: HP Spectre x360

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Question: HP Spectre x360

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing.It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

I'm looking for a 13-inch laptop for myself and have narrowed it down to these two models. Need your help in choosing :)
I'm thinking about such config for both: i7-7560U + Iris Plus Graphics 640 + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD. As for the screen, I'm still on the fence about it, not sure if I want the best possible res (QHD for Dell, 4K for HP) or the best battery life by going FullHD. Can you guys share your battery life experience with the best screens for these? I'm going to use it primarily for browsing / office work / coding (VS and VS Code) / light photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop)
For the x360, I like Windows Hello camera (and webcam at the top ) and build quality. And it's a bit cheaper.
For the XPS 13, it's battery life and better port selection

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Hi,Two weeks ago I bought an HP Spectrex360. Two days after buying it while using the keyboard, not the touchscreen, it began to touch the touchscreen by it selft only on a part of the screen followed continuously.This happend alot while i was using the laptop so I went to the place of purchase and I changed it with for one of the same model. But this new one  also it has the same fault, any recomendations of what should i do?

Hi, my spectre x360 just out of warranty and will no longer charge the battery! Charger checked and working. When plugged into laptop, symbol appears to show connection but then states not charging. Battery nearly flat now but diagnostics state batter condition ok. Would appreciate any ideas to resolve please but I am not considered computer literate just general working knowledge!

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Not sure exactly where to put this but here goes. Recently registered for a HP Student account to get a student discount on a new laptop. When on the student store home page there's a section for new student deals/offers which lists the HP Spectre 13-4108na x360 (i5-6200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) as being 799 with 100 off. Problem is when I click to view the offer in the store or to shop for the offer I can't find it anywhere in the presented list of laptops, it just doesn't make sense to me that the product is listed and advertised as being on offer if I can't actually purchase it ...

hi,i recently bought HP Spectre x360 with highest specs an. d i'm facing some real serious issues with the touchpad / clickpad. as many others in this forum and reviewers pointed out, the clicks are not being recognized. In my case, I'd say it is around 50% of the clicks don't get registered and I have to click again to make it work. That is really frustrating and enough to make me come here and post this question. I really like the laptop and this is exactly what I've been looking for but this clickpad is a real deal breaker. I followed some suggestions on this forum and also tried some troubleshooting myself (since i myself is a support engineer) but to no avail. I changed the synaptics settings to try and remove too much intelligence from the touchpad and at least get the basic functionality right, but i continue to miss the clicks. I also tried replacing the driver with synaptic one but the problem continues, which tells me that it is something related to the hardware piece than the software / driver. can someone here please help me with this? if i hadn't liked the laptop, i wouldn't bother posting here to try and find a solution, i'd simply get rid of it and go with lenovo yoga 3 pro or something else. but this laptop has really high build quality and classy looks, but probably killed by this $25 buggy piece of hardware.

I recently acquired an HP x360 Spectre 15t (about 5 days ago).  During charging I noticed that the charger plug is quite warm/hot.  Using a laser temp gun, I measured the hottest point of the plug to be 152F.  The average temp reading seems to run around 128F (scanning different points on plug). Hi all, I've had my laptop for around 1.5yrs now but it recently stopped working and does not switch on. Pressing the power button causes the caps lock light to flash 5.3 (and the F5 keyboard light stays on constantly). After a few minutes, fan whirring noises can be heard but the screen remains black. I've followed all of the offered the troubleshooting steps (hard reset; attaching to external monitor.. etc.) but to no avail. 6 months over warranty and I'm incredibly worried and frustrated given the prevalence of similar issues with the Spectre x360 across the forum and given this was my first laptop purchase after much scrimping and saving. Was anticipating using this for at least 3 years and the experience has made me wary of what I believed to be a reputable and trustworthy brand. Echoing the thoughts of others with similar problems, I'm hoping for some resolution to this detrimental problem that does not push the price of purchase given that this appears to be a problem across the product!

I have had my X360 for about a year but just recently it's really running hot after a short time of use.   I have turned it completely off overnite instead of putting it in sleep mode and it still runs hot.   I have it currently leaning so there is absolutely nothing blocking the vents in the back and it's still super hot.   What am I to do to cool it down and is there something that HP is doing to fix this issue?

I purchased an HP Spectre 15 x360 in March 2016 and have been struggling with freezing/lock ups since then. I have tried updating all drivers but this hasn't fixed the problem. Almost daily, the screen freezes, the cursor shows a "busy" signal, and Windows does not recover. I have to do a full shutdown and restart, and lose all my work. I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing this freezing. This has been a problem since the laptop was first received, so I am wondering if there is a hardware problem. Thanks for any help/ideas you can provide.

I just bought an hp spectre x360 today and my webcam looks really really bad, I've watch reviews of the computer online and the videos using the webcam look way better than mine does, could there be something wrong with my computer? Is there something I can do regarding the settings?

I need to upgrade ssd to 512gb, have seen posts on other variants but dont know how important the 4050na number is? Also most posts were about a year old and so i wondered if anyone had more uptodate experience? The Samsung seem to have many models, just paying more for faster read/write speeds but dont know how important this is and whether machine can support any or all of these speeds?

I have an HP Spectre x360 with a 2 year ADP coverage. I purchased the laptop in US... but I am currently employed and working in India. My screen has got damaged and needs to be replaced, but the local service center is unable to verify the ADP care pack details in India. I purchased this laptop after doing my research that the product is marketed in India and will be supported here. However, now the local tech support is saying that the Family name - pike1.0 not available in India and the laptop cannot be serviced even if the ADP is avaiable. As per the ADP contract, HP Support can courier the necessary parts to the local service center and my laptop can be serviced. How do i resolve this issue?

All of a sudden from one day to the next my keyboard keys wont work at all. These are so far my mute sound my g my h my esc my @ and backspace. I have tried to: -reset my device the reinstall all my applications i had prior then didnt work then done a full file reset still didnt wor-in stall HP drivers from web site-install the previous drivers then upgrade-restored the BIOS defaults and installed the latest BIOS-completed the f2 keyboard test which didnt pass- changed the keyboard language from uk to us-tried flipping it into tablet mode and back So far none of this has worked amd looking through your forums its a known issue but i cant see a fix. My on screen keyboard works fine. My laptop is only a year old and now out of warranty.I have no restore point set either so couldnt reset to a time it was working.  Any body with any ideas on how to fix this issue please aas its frustrating the hell out of me. I have already spent 2 days working on this and process of elimination. Any body at HP know of this issue please reply or i am due to start working their soon so might find out also through 2nd line. Hi I bought my HP Spectre x360 4002dx in October 2015 on Ebay in Australia.  Apparently this is an American model.  Anyway, it was working great up until the other day.  Now it refuses to power on at all.  I searched some forums and found out that this seems to be a common problem with this notebook model.  I paid a lot for this notebook and now I am less than 2 months out of warranty and it is a write off?  Does anyone have any advice about what I can do?  I chatted to tech support in Australia and he said to contact the US team. Thanks,MikeC5

Question: Dead Spectre x360

My Spectre x360-13-4005dx went dead yesterday. It was fully charged adn plugged in, I was working, and then black screen. No response from any reset actions. No light when depressing the power button. No light from plugging in.  It is only two years old and gently used. From brwosing teh forum, this seems to be a widespread issue, bordering on a lemon. What is the fix?

Recently got a brand new Spectre X360 notebook from Dubai. Unfortunately the Sound does not seem to work. Any advise on how this may be solved or what the problem maybe? Would I have to return the laptop to Dubai for any repairs or can it be sent to anywhere in South Africa?

Hey guys! I bought my new ash silver HP spectre x360 13" recently and Ive discovered som faults in the production. I am now wondering if anyone else noticed these faults and if I could/should exchange my example for a new proper one ( I do genuenly love it) Firstly, it is not balanced proberly when sitting on a flat surface. Ive made a video showcasing it. Which can be seen below. A click noise is produced when using it for scrolling. This makes it virtually impossible to use silently while someone else is trying to sleep next to me.. I did test it once, full charge 100%, laptop turned off. 8 hours later it still had 100% so no issues there for me. Is it possible to get a spectre x360 13" without any of these issues?

Unfortunately our machine is 1 year + 1 month old and they won't give us a break on the repair. They estimate that it would be $300. I agree with many folks on this topic that this is a design issue and they need to do a recall instead of having their customers pay to replace the faulty parts.

I cannot create a new folder on the desktop. Right click of the mouse pad does nothing. Shift Control N does nothing. This is ridiculous. Any help is appreciated.

Does right click work at all? Try right click on Start button and see if it produces a menu. Some people has experienced problems with their touch pad, try using a mouse and see if right click works.

It should be an easy thing to do. Contact HP Sales with my computer information, order the accessory I would like to purchase. Turns out, not easy at all. Hello, I know this is an obscure topic but I noticed two scratches on the bezel (The polished metal) of my Hp Spectre X360.  To orient you, the scratches are not to far from the right side windows button and volume rocker.  The scratches are not deep due to not feeling an indent when I run my nail across them.  Also you can only see them in the most direct light.  Nevertheless they bother me.  Does anyone have any solutions as to how to remove those scratches at all?  I tried an extra fine scotch brite pad but was unsuccessful.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you.

i have a yellow exclamation point next to my Realek HW audio codec. I tried rolling back the driver to 6.3.9600.119 but still no sound  I tried downloading driver from HP support but was stuck in endless loop of uninstall old driver and reboot and then stiil got same dialog popup of a "two part process." i still have no sound via speakers or headphones. I did not recently install any new software.

I have the i5 version, and I experience the same heat issues as you guys described. Also, the area right above the F1-F5 keys gets really really hot after running anything even mildly graphics intense. Even simple 2d flash games will cause the fan to throttle up and that area will become extremely hot. It has been like this since the beginning. Other than the heat issue, I honestly have no qualms with this ultrabook.

I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre X360 Notebook and issues with overheating and possible fan issues. Here is a link on what could cause overheating and how to reducing heat inside the Notebook. You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others as it restores the fans default settings. Please let me know how this goes. Thanks.

Hello, I just received my i7 model of the HP Spectre X360 today and after a short period of use on the computer the upper left corner of the body of the computer becomes very hot, so much that resting it on part of my body becomes unbearable. I had read up on the notebook before buying it and the only mention of any issue of this sort was in a pros/cons list in one review that merely stated that "the bottom runs warm." Thus I was not expecting this level of heat while using the laptop rather casually, as the most intensive thing I was doing was streaming videos. Is this normal for what I am doing on this laptop? It's not the worst problem but it is definitely worrisome as I am planning on using this laptop for the next four years or so. Thank you all in advance!

I recently purchase both a HP Spectre x360 15t and a HP Spectre x360 13.  I was understanding that the USB-C prot supported charging.  However, the HP Spectre x360 15t failes to recognize the USB-C charger (from Spectre x360 13). Is there anyway to charge the HP x360 Spectre via USB-C port.

Hi All,I am experiencing several issues with my notebook.In order of priority:the clickpad doesn't work properly: it get stuck frequently and I can only wake up it after pressing Esc button. I have tried everything mentioned in the troubleshooting of the HP support assistant (changing configurations, uninstall and reinstall drivers several times, format the PC and reinstall Windows). I am sure it is not an hardware issue since the animated icon tray on the setbar show that the clickpad is responsive;after trying to solve the clickpad issue something with my BIOS went wrong. I cannot move thorough the menu and for each key I press the notebook returns a sound. I tried to reset the BIOS but the problem is the same and now I have also lost the function keys setting (I really need them since I am intensely working with Excel).The shift dx with arrow left doesn't work at times.The notebook seems to not recognize the restart (for example after a driver uninstall or reinstall)Problem 1 and 3 showed up since I bought the notebook. I look forward to receiving your help and advice,Best.

Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. So my laptop just started turning off suddenly. I can start it up, log in, and then after about a 1 minute or so, it just shuts off (as if someone just pulled the battery out). No shutting down warning, nothing. Just goes black. I have even tried restarting it after logging in and it doesn't want to restart. When I try to restart, it just goes black and shuts off again. Same thing when I try to shut it down. Anyone have any ideas? Oh, one more thing. Charging light blinks when I have the charger plugged in. I have tried taking out charger and pressing power button down 15 seconds. After doing that, charging like stops blinking, but after a minute of so, it'll start blinking again. Any ideas?? Laptop was purchased about 6 months ago, but warranty is expired due to being a refurb.

Hi, I have a new Spectre x360 13-4116dx and woud like to install Windows 10 Professional. I wiped the harddrive and used a new Windows 10 Profeesional installation disk. After the install completed I checked the activation and it says: Windows 10 Home - Digital License. Does anybody know how to get Win 10 Professional on this machine? Thank you for your help!!! I just purchase a HP Spectre x360 and the HP Active pen from Best Buy.  Great laptop but I have noticed that I need to press VERY hard before the pen responds. If I don't press hard, then pen strokes appear very light.   When I cross H's or T's the cross doesn't register.   If i put the laptop in Tablet mode, then I can get the letters to appear as expected.  But when Writing on the screen in regular "laptop" mode or "Tent mode", the letters appear as "chicken" scratch I didn't find any settings for adjusting the Pen's Sensitivity in windows or one note. I would prefer that the pen behave more like a finger.  Just more precise.

Hi All,I have a Spectre X360 (13-4014TU)  that runs the Intel i7-5500U , 256GB ADATA SSD, 8Gb RAM and Win 10-64. It is a great little unit and has become my main work horse for my business. As I am running out of Disk space, I wanted to upgrade the SSD to 512GB but I have noticed that Intel have launched a 540S Series 1tb M.2 drive for a little bit more than the cost of the Samsung 512gb  unit. However, I want to know if the upgrade will work before I invest the $ required. The two questions that I can't get an answer to are:1. The intel unit is double sided. Its thickness is 3.58mm  compared to the 2.32mm thickness for single sided SSD - WILL IT FIT in the X360 ssd gap? 2. Will the  BIOS of the x360 address the 1tb memory? The x360 has the F.32 BIOS running on the 802D 58.51 system board. Has anyone else experienced fitting a 1tb to an X360? Any recommendations? ThanksFrank

Hi!I'm just experiencing some issues with my recently bought laptop. It is probably nearly 2 months old, and this is happening as I type this.  I am charging my laptop and it's been, say 30 minutes since charging and the charger is really hot! It's keeping me warm in this cold winter I could say.  Is there something wrong with it? Should I unplug even though it's charged up to 85% ... I have a Spectre x360 notebook that is soon two years old. It hasn't been used a lot, but recently I have taken it into active use again. I'm experiencing unexpected shutdowns, and it seems to be running hot. You should be able to hear the fan running and if it's hot and the fan is not running, you should turn it off and get it serviced. You don't want to fry the cpu.

Anybody knows if it's possible replace the laptop's SSD with another M.2 but pcie? I have read in some forum on internet that's possible but i'm not sure because i bought a Samsung SM951 e i tried to mount but the notebook does not see it!!!!The laptop's M.2 connector is it compatible with pcie? Can i replace my SSD with one pcie?I updated BIOS to  rev F.25 but nothing. Can you identify where you tried to put the mSSD by reference to the Manual here: Manual See p. 28. It uses M.2 SATA drives and if the drive you installed is a PCIe type it will not be recognized. AHCI type drives only as far as I can see. I know only the very most recent desktop motherboards will boot from a pcie M.2 mSSD. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi after being bounced back to and fro from various departments of HP I'm still unable to get Pen support on my Spectre x360 13t-4200 model. I've came a few people that didn't have the firmware but were able to download it for their 15t series,  but so far I get a failed operation when I try to install the firmware. The same pen works on my sister's last year's model. Attached is a screen shot. ANy help is welcomed as I'm a graphic artist, I need my active stylus functionality  Please & Thank you. 13t-4200  13-4003

I just got a new Spectre x360 13 (13-w023dx) and I am having the exact same buzzing noise as described in the video. This is crazy and ridiculous for a supposedly top of the line laptop. Is HP monitoring this thread and is there a proper fix ?

Fix it by return two of them... QC is awful... You can also turn off the GPU but your laptop will be useless.

My HP spectre x 360 was working fine a couple days ago. I was using it on battery power and got a note that battery power was low. I was finished for the night so I closed it up without plugging it in. The next day I tried to turn it on it wouldn't power up at all, even when plugged in. When I plug the AC adapter in, there is a steady white light that comes on next to the port. I have tried the troubleshooting tips attempting to do a hard reset and there is no response whatsoever. I am extremely upset to read that this is a common issue. I am two months past warranty, and the timing seems very odd. I am self-employed and cannot afford to be without this laptop, which I spent a lot of money on. What is my recourse?

Hello, I just picked up a refurbished HP Spectre X360, and I have a question about the fan noise. My fan makes a whistling sound when it picks up speed.  It's normally not on, and only cranks under heavy load, but there's definitely a whistle.  I'm just wondering if this is normal or not.  I have the opportunity to return this unit if it's not normal, but so far it works really well.  I have no problem with "whooshing" or air blowing, but the whistle kind of stinks to hear. Any thoughts?

 Hello @Cepeda_Nicholas? I appologize but the RAM is not upgradable on the Spectre 13 x360 notebook as it is soldered to the system board and doesn't have additional expansion slots.

Hello Folks, I have the HP Spectre x360 - 13t-4200 CTO and have spent 4 weeks trying to get my brand new HP Active Stylus to work with this brand new laptop. I also bought a 2nd stylus to make sure the first one wasn't the problem.  I have spoken with five different tech support reps, plus my case was escalated to a team of engineers.  Although this very stylus is listed as compatible with this laptop, the word today from the "engineers"  was that, no, I cannot use a stylus with my laptop, there is no work-around and, although there is a firmware upgrade for the 15" model, there is nothing for the 13" model (nor can they tell me if there is any plans in the works) and that I am "welcome to return the laptop for a refund" and long as I do it in the next couple days before 30 days after receiving the laptop. Sorry, HP, this has been a nightmare, with non-stop bad information and I think that you should publish on the website that a stylus will not work so that when people consider purchasing this model, they will know that they can't use a stylus.  But we all know that's not going to happen because it could affect sales of the laptop. If you have to have a stylus working on this laptop, you should go with the Dell XPS.  Frankly, I should have know better as this is my very first HP computer.

I have purchased my Spectre x360 back in 2015,  and i have been using it for less than a year. So far, the laptop experience have been rather satisfying. Apart from experiencing minor glitches initially, the updates helped and the laptop worked just fine and smoothly. Though, the speakers stil have rattling sound when played loudly.  Until recently, couple weeks back the laptop went haywire as i was doing my assignments. Without any signs to indicate any mechanical problems, the whole system just shut down. i couldn't switch it on, nor could i even charge it. So i have called up the service centre, and since it is still under warranty, they have replaced the motherboard. On the bright side, I did not lose any datas or files. However, I have discovered my case wasn't the first to happen as there was one earlier case which was much severe. The laptop's motherboard literally burnt. The bottom part was all black and all data was lost  . The following image was the default in my product that has occured recently.   Hope to receive advise and any precautionary steps to avoid this mishap.  I have only just bought the spectre x360 and all has been well for the first two weeks. This week I found that it has been a little slow to start up. When I opened the machine in laptop mode I would get to the lockscreen where I have to enter my pincode. Despite entering the pin using the keys and trying to use the touchscreen the machine remained unresponsive and I had to open and close the lid unil it did respond which it did eventually. Today I started to have problems with the screen. Whilst using Microsoft Word (2016) and the windows DVD player the machine again stopped responding and the screen went blank. I had to shut the lid and when I opened it again it was still blank. When I plugged it in to a power socket using a charger it seemed to boot up again. The battery was low but not so low that it had wanred me or gone into a hibernation mode (about 15%). When connected to the power socket  I was able to continue using Word but the screen was flcikering. Later this evening I tried to switch to tablet mode. The screen went completely blank and the tablet was not responding at all. When I sought to change it back to laptop mode it remained blank. The light on the CAPS button was flashing. The machine was making a loud whurring noise. It was down for about 5 minutes. My HP Spectre x360 suddenly shut down and now refuses to switch on, whether or not connected to the charger. Even when connected to the charger, the small white/orange light is not switched on. It is showing absolutely no signs of life. I have tried a hard reset, holding the power button down, waiting for an extended period of time, all to no avail. It shut down whilst connected to the charger, and was not too hot. I bought the product in mid 2015 so the manufacter's warranty has run out, but according to others with similar issues, this is a design flaw. What's the best way to go about solving this issue?

I bought an HP Spectre x360 for college and everything was fine at first.... but for the past couple of months, my laptop has been having some real loud fan issues. Just by starting up the device with minimal programs causes it to whir very obnoxiously. I only have Skype, Microsoft Office, and a few other basic programs installed on it... is there any way to fix this?

Hello everyone,so suddenly and for reason my laptop (HP Spectre X360) stopped workin  and it shows no sign of life anymore, the only led works now is the charging led, when I plug in my charger it lits in white that's it!! no other lights or any feedback from the pc!! it's less than 6 months old now and never had any issues with it before! I went to bestbuy and they said it might be the motherboard that needs to be replaced, so idk if anyone of you had the issue before? and if the motherboard has been replaced would I lose all my data? and do they even need to access my data to replace the motherboard??thanks,,,

I recently bought a HP Spectre x360 13-w003ng and for security reasons in case of loss or theft I would like to encrypt the SSD with a password. Most premium devices have a HDD password option in the BIOS. Unfortunately, I couldn't find that option in the BIOS of this device. Does that mean it is not possible to set such a password on this particular notebook?

Every HP laptop I have ever owned has the option to set a power on or administrator password in BIOS. Under Security you should find the settings.

The intel HP Graphics control panel shows me an option of 3D. However, I cant view anything 3D on my laptop. Is 3D supported by my laptop?If so, what should I do so to be able to view 3D?
