Unable to reset computer after messing up bios

Question: Unable to reset computer after messing up bios

Hello! The other day I tried to free up sim space on my computer since I only had about 30gb left on my ssd, I thought it was odd that I did not have more space since I have 2 SSDs and 2HDD but it only said I had 230gb on one hard drive and 100 on my other one ( the first ssd is 340gb and the second one is 120gb) after unsuccessfully trying to remove some files from the 2nd SSD I went in to bios and messed something up. When The computer then restarted it said there was no boot drive (something along those lines). I went on to www(dot)dell(dot)com(/)keyincloud and downloaded the key onto a USB stick, now that I try to reset the computer it says it failed to repair the partition table and that there are no files to back up and therefor I am unable to download the OS again.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Preferred Solution: Unable to reset computer after messing up bios

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Unable to reset computer after messing up bios

What's the model name and model number of your Dell?
What's the "service tag" number and "express service code" number on it?

You're the only person who knows what you did in the BIOS and how you messed it up.
Have you tried resetting it to its default settings?

If I understand you correctly, you have 4 physical hard drives (2 SATA, 2 SSD) in your Dell?
Or do you have 2 physical hard drives (1 SATA, 1 SSD) with both divided into 2 partitions?

Hi,

I have a laptop that I'd like to format and install windows all over again.

Selecting Reset and the option to remove all files the computer reports it prepares everything. After some time however it stops with a message saying something like (it is in Norwegian on my laptop, so there might be somewhat different in English):

There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes have been made.

I've tried it a couple of times but get the same error every time. Any ideas what I can do to fix this?

Answer:Unable to reset the computer

Hi Hoggorm

I would move on to just doing a clean install. As part of process I would delete the partitions Windows used and allow it to reconfigure them. I assume you have boot media.

If not you can down load from Microsoft but be advised if you use Media Creation Tool you will be installing the Creator Update.

Clean Install Windows 10

Note the warnings about secure boot and fast boot in tutorial.

It is possible to get other versions if required.

Hello, Im new here. Just stumbled upon this forum and hope the admin could help me. I'm using a Windows 8 64 and have been encountering alot of problems with my Asus Laptop.

I am unable to refresh and reset my computer as it will say something like "there is a problem resetting your pc, no changes are made." Same goes for the recovery mode F9 screen. The problems i encountered includes lots and lots of internet explorer window pop out when i tried to install some programs such as winrar, and some other software. I already disabled smart screen filter and scan for virus but nothing was found.

I already create a recovery drive USB "mine is 32gb" in my windows 8 as per what you posted in the first page and tried booting up F9 and run in USB in recovery mode but after asking for my Language and Keyboard layout, it just reboot my computer normally as in nothing had happened without resetting my computer. My Asus laptop came with Windows 8 pre installed without the disk and there isn't any OEM options in recovery mode. Only troubleshoot and USB option when i plugged in my recovery flash drive. Thanks! Hope someone can help me.

Answer:unable to refresh and reset my computer

Pop out!! Do you mean pop up and basically what are they saying. You did a AV scan and found nothing, suggest you download and run Malwarebytes (Free). Was your USB recovery drive created before or after the problems started?

Hi, I reset my BIOS for my computer, by taking the battery out because I tried to install the ePSXe emulator, but I couldn't get it to run and when I booted up my PC the start up screen was off-centre. So I reset the BIOS and now my PCs working fine again, but I'm not really sure what it meant to reset the BIOS. I think my PC was overclocked or something and I'm not sure if by doing that I've messed it up?

Answer:I reset my BIOS for my computer

The key thing is: if everything's working as it was, then you've probably done no harm. BIOS = basic input/output system and, at the lowest level, it tells the computer what it is, where everything is and what to do before trying to load e.g. Windows. You can make changes in the BIOS, such as the order in which you want it to look at devices to boot from (e.g. if you want it to look for an operating system on the optical drive before it looks on the hard drive). It's also where you would change important things about its operating characteristics, such as uprating the processor speed ("overclocking"). All you've done by resetting the BIOS is to return your PC to how it was when it left the factory. Yes, if it was overclocked, then it will likely not be overclocked any more - but you may well not notice any difference.

I encountered The error code 0xc000021a upon startup. I then contacted microsoft as I realize this is a windows 10 problem but even with their help I was unable to restore the computer to an earlier version of windows 10 so they said the only solution would be to do a hard reset. I can do the reset but first I need to backup some important documents that I hadn't yet copied nto the cloud. So i went onto the system recovery manager that is available upon pressing esc on startup and tried to backup the files. It started off well and managed to compile a list of files to backup but afterwards upon finalizing the file backup it fails before even reaching 0% stating the error code FFFFFF0C as the problem. Is there any way to resolve this or do I just have to say goodbye to the files and do the factory reset. cheers, JP

I really need help with this. Here's the issues that's happening; after putting my computer to sleep for an hour, it was still working perfectly fine the whole time. It was safe in my bag, and as far as I know it hadn't been banged or anything. When I turned my laptop back on, all of the sudden the backspace doesn't want to work without me holding it down hard to go back; otherwise, it's randomly typing the equals sign before disappearing. I can't even type the equals symbol in, it's also doing the same thing of backspacing if I hold it. So now my equals button and backspace buttons are mapped to do the same thing. Whenever I type the colon symbol ( ; ), it'\s popping up the volume control but not moving it up or down. And whenever I press \the Enter button, it randomly adds the slash button (as you can see in my attempt to add it, it's randomly adding itself to the previous sentences.) and enters it as such.\
\\
To add to this, the directional buttons are messed up as well. Pressing up moves the keyboard cursor up and then adds the slash, pressing left doesn't want to work. It acts like it moves, then jumps the type cursor right back to its original position. And pressing right adds the ] instead of moving, so now it's acting like the ] button. \
\
Has anyone else encountered this problem...? Please tell me that this is solvable...

Answer:Keyboard messing up and unable to fix it

I have no idea how it happened. Then again, after I plugged in my USB keyboard and tested to see if it'd have the same issues (it didn't), it suddenly fixed itself five minutes afterwards. Gremlins... Or plugging in a USB keyboard helps set the bindings back in place. I couldn't tell you.

My idiot self put a password on my computer to protect it temporarially, then by gods sense of humor the computer shut down through loss of pwer. But the password didn't save correctly and now I can't get on my account. It's the only user, and whenever I try using safe mode with command prompt, it goes to the user log in screen, which defeats the purpose.

In short, I need to reset my passdword, while not being able to log on in any way through the username. I would rather not have to wipe my harddrive, I have no recovery disc, nor partition for some reason. If I have to I will wipe my harddrive then download win7 again, but I need to know how to do that first. Any help?

HELP! Computer won't boot! Tried everything!

Ok so this is my set up:

DDR400 512mb Ram

Asus A7N8X-X motherboard

sapphire radeon 9600xt 265mb GFX

amd athlon 2600+ cpu (1.91ghz)

80gb HD (just some cheap one- i forget brand, perhaps seagate)

edit: a floppy and dvd burning drive

Ok and the problem is:

I installed a ripped off ****ty version of XP. Never really worked splendidly.
I changed somehting in the bios, i had no idea what it was, i'm stupid for doing so i realise. it was something to do with speed, it was at about 100mhz and i changed it to 200mhz. also note, i had the "bios virus alert thing" ON.
the next few boots were dodgy and it only booted up every second or third attempt. if it didnt boot up it wouldnt boot and just went beep (long beeps and repeated -in no code) this worked for 4 boots before it never booted again.
it just beeped.
until i moved the jumpers on the 3 pins from the two pins closest to the battery position to the furthest two. and turned the pc on. it didnt beep. the monitor didnt respond and but it seemed to be turned on (the cpu fan was going and a green LED on the mobo was on). i then turned the power off. and stuck the jumper back on the original pins and turned it back on hoping the BIOS would be reset but the beeping sequence continued and nothing seemed to start. So then i took out the battery for over half an hour... then put it back in. (with the jumper still on the original pins- nb: the... Read more

Answer:HELP! Computer won't boot! BIOS? Reset it. CMOS Battery? In and Outed it. HELP!

The Athlon XP 2600 that runs at 1917MHz runs on an FSB of 166MHz and has a clock multiplier of 11.5 (166 X 11.5 = 1909Mhz).

So if you have a system bus setting of 200MHz and the clock multiplier is set a 11.5, you were running it at 2300MHz, which is seriously overclocking it.

The processor might not have been up to that much overclocking and died.

Find out what BIOS settings do before you change them!

I recently reset my Gateway NV52L15u laptop computer in order to empty it out and restart back to factory basics. However, now if I turn it on, it goes straight to BIOS, telling me I need to "Insert Boot Media". I tried using my recovery drive, but that did nothing at all to fix it. Please help me, I need help on how to fix this.

Answer:Computer stuck in BIOS after reset? Insert Boot Media 8.1

In order to access the Recovery Manager you must repeatedly tap the F11 key at boot. However, if you have formatted the drive before hand, the recovery partition is gone and you will have to use Recovery Disks hopefully you made when you first got the computer. If no disks, you may be able to order them from the manufacturer.

so I built myself this PC a few weeks ago, and recently I decided to experiment with overclocking.
Now I have OC'ed my GPU before, but have had no experience with CPU BIOS overclocking.
So, in all my clueless glory I tampered around in my BIOS, and to my surprise my system booted and worked fine with 200MHz OC. However, once I tried pushing it a bit further to 3.7GHz, It didn't want to boot and I had to reset CMOS.
Anyway, just wanted to ask a few questions:

1. Has anyone got any experience overclocking in ASRock UEFI BIOS with an AMD CPU?
2. Does the FX-6100 overclock well? is there anything I should know?
3. Should I bother Overclocking at all?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I have onboard video in my system. I just purchased a PCI Express card with 512 MB and installed it to get ready for Win7. I did not do anything to disable the onboard video as I figured that would be done automatically. I just ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor again and it still says my card does not meet Win7 specifications. I was thinking that I might need to disable the onboard in the Bios. The only thing I see in there is under "PCI/PnP Setup". Under "Init Display First" there are two options. A "PCI" and a "PCI Express". It is set on PCI. Since my card is in the PCI Express slot, would this be the option I would need to change to make my system recognize the video card under the Win7 Upgrade Advisor? If I am completely off base with this, please straighten me out.

Answer:Help Needed Messing Up Bios

The location of the control varies from bios to bios.

On my PC it is under Advanced and then "Video Configuration".

I would keep digging and look from something more clearly named, but it's possible you have it. No problem in trying it, because you can always get back in the bios and change it back.

Well, I chose the boot as "legacy bios only" after receiving the x220. I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bits (which means the setting soft provided by Lenovo does not work) and then updated the BIOS to 1.15. After all these, the machine runs mostly fine but I noticed that I could not log into the BIOS setup any more. Pressing F1\F2\F12\thinkVamtage when the bootup screen shows up (press thinkVantage bottom....), and nothing happens. It does not beep as it did before and does not respond to the buttom press. That means I could not choose bootup device either - it will log into Windows from HDD no matter how you tried to boot from other devices. Any ideas on the problem? And I guess resetting the BIOS might solve the problem, but how? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can not log into x220 BIOS? How to reset BIOS setting without entering BIOS setup?

Try turning the system completely off, then power it on and press F1.I've seen strange cases where pressing F1 doesn't work on a warm boot.  It always works on a cold boot.

Hi All,I've just created this account to explain this biazzare behaviour.Using T450s, latest windows 10 updated and working. latest firmware. I've messed with the boot settings to try to boot with UEFI instead of legacy. I've change the boot priority sequence as well. I have 2 SDD's.  1x Samsung 850Evo 250GB (C , and 1x Sandisk 16GB (P (the cache drive, formated to become a data drive). When i boot up i get an error "Window Boot Manager: file \boot\bcd status: 0xc000000f info: the boot config data for your PC is missing or contains errors" workaround: I solved this by changing the boot priority to have the Sandisk 16GB as the main boot drive, ahead of the 250GB. (this is confirmed when i choose which disk to boot up, and i specifically select the Sandisk drive (p and it works...) note: The 16GB has nothing but media on it. everything is in my C:. I made quite a lot of "changes" for me to try and get the UEFI to boot up instead of the Legacy... Details:My C: was not marked as "Active" before. Apparently it needs to be Active for UEFI to read, so i went into "Disk Management" to mark C: as active.   the 16gb (P drive was already active before... My ask:How can I fix the boot sequence. I want to boot from my C: and not P:  ... (need)I also want to boot up from UEFI for my C:... HOWEVER, how do i get secure boot to work?

I tried many ways.
1.)  I performed the step 3 mentioned here.
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04740515

2.) I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version from

Everytime secure boot is set, it can't get pass POST and the system kept resetting.

Am i missing any steps?

i have had my computer nearly 6months now and has worked fine up until recently.

It was working fine one day and then it switch itself off. i tried booting it up again and came up with safe mode options. when i selected an option the computer froze and sometimes restarts itself. I have tried starting it in safe and normal but still freezes and i am unable to get onto the BIOS.

this has been happening for a while, but the other day it worked fine for about 5 hours and then the same happened. i thought it might have been overheating so i cleaned the heat sink and made sure all the fans are working. Temperature when idle before the problems started was 38C. Tried different power supplies and monitors but nothings helping.

Spec:
Pentium64 Dual Core 6.8Ghz
2GBRam
200GB HDD

using Windows XP Home Edition service pack 1.

Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

Please use proper thread titles from now on. Thanks.

Answer:Computer freezing and I`m unable to get into bios.

If you are using the stock heat sink have you checked that all four legs are correctly fastened into the motherboard.

It doesn't take a lot of jarring to dislodge one or more and poor heatsink contact will either throttle your cpu (best case) or close you down.

IF you can get it started again, have a look at the error messages in System Events (control panel, admin services) and see what caused the earlier crshes.

Hi,

I recently changed motherboard from Asus to a DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert. On top of that, I've been upgrading my hard disk space.

Now here's the problem;

I used to have 3 harddisks, all S-ATA, one partitioned with a 15Gb partition holding Windows and programs.

Now in the new configuration I'll have 2 S-ATA and 2 IDE disks. The problem is that when I hook up the IDE disks, windows won't boot as it somehow mucks up the boot device order.

I've went into BIOS and made sure that my disk containing windows was set for 1st boot device, in the priority order. But to no avail.

Why!? Also, when I installed Windows after mounting the new motherboard, I thought I'd connected the windows disk to S-ATA 1. Yet in the installation start, where one picks harddisk, it was labeled D: and still is.

So what should I do if I simply want my 2 S-ATA disks to be C: and D: (possible C:, D: and E: if I partition one again), with C: containing Windows?

Anything that can be done with Windows installed, or do I need to format and reinstall everything with a different hardware mounting setup (i.e. move cables and such?). Any reason why it appears the BIOS settings for boot disk priority do not function properly?

Also, up until now I've been using fdisk and the menu at the start of the WinXP setup, to partition disks and such. Should I perhaps consider to start using Partition Magic? Would it also make things easier with respect to assigning drive letters the way I w... Read more

I don't know what happened. It was working fine yesterday, but when I got on it today I started noticing different things missing from it.

1. No sound at all
2. Printer doesn't work
3. Popup blocker doesn't work
And probably a few other things that I haven't found yet.

I went to System Restore and it won't let me go back past this morning. I tried it anyway and it didn't fix the problem.

It's a Compaq 5000 series with Windows XP.

Out of nowhere I get some pop up and I deny everything that it wants(since it's not something I'm familiar with)

About an hour later I get something called Digital Protection(Rogue Spyware or something) automatically and now my computer randomly freezes and when I try and go to task manager to fix it, that freezes too.

I'll try and post my GMER logs if they will get done in time. Also, the dds.scr won't produce any logs. I'm going to edit this post once I get the GMER logs, but if there is no attachment within a few hours my computer will keep crashing.

EDIT: My computer keeps crashing and my windows task manager leads me to a black screen so I can't even try to restart windows explorer. Is there anything I can do to fix my computer without even being able to provide any logs or even get on it? Will I need to get a new computer because of this or do you guys know any way that I can possibly get help?

Answer:Help! Computer is messing up!

Sorry for the double post/possible bump. It wouldn't let me edit again. DDS.scr is working, now.

Hi all,

I purchased a new computer and whenever I tried to copy some files from my external hard drive to the computer or vice versa, the USB would freeze and disconnect. Then I would have to reboot.

Notes: This is the only device connected to the USB. I tried other external hard drives and the USB would still freeze and disconnect the computer. All my external hard drives work on my other computers.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with the computer? Thanks

Answer:USB messing up computer

If all work on your other PCs, then try another USB Port on the computer it's not working on, (front & back!), if this doesn't help you, then I'd say you got to take it to a repair shop and see what is wrong..

Are the OS's different on the different computers your using?

Well where do I start?

I've tried everything;

Can't install framework 4.5 due to windows module service installer not installed, somehow? It's not even on my list in services!

Can't run sfc /scannow due to errors

Can't update windows due to errors

I mean, it's pretty messed up, every solution that the first problem has, has another error? You know?

Can any one help me out? This is so frustrating!

Hi, I just had to replace my power supply and since my computer has been randomly rebooting. I have tried making sure everything is tight in there, and it made my computer last a lot longer before rebooting. Is it the new psu that is messing up? Or is it w/e this ftsata2 thing is? I'm not sure what to do any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: ftsata2

Answer:Computer messing up

was it doing the same thing before u got the new psu? what psu is it? i would assume your psu is glitchy. Also try running in safe mode.

Hi all,

I'm not sure which forum to post this on as i'm new here and my comp problems overrun into a few catagories which is driving me insane! Hope it's ok to post here.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me fix this!

Problems 1st started when trying to download and install new display drivers (from looking in C:drive the ATI folder has 6 different downloads in the support section- i definately messed up with the installing/uninstalling of the ccc, even used windows install clean up utility and the ccc is still in add/rem programs)
I've also updated from kaspersky internet security 2010 to 2011 and the install didn't work so i had to uninstall/install and repair twice)
Problems:
I managed to eventually update my display driver to newest version now it has reverted back to 2006 original version. I was trying to uninstall CCC and just keep my display drivers.
USB devices are not showing up in My Computer (i have an external dvd burner which now isn't recognised along with my printer and computer doesn't detect flash drives inserted)
i've had 2 error messages (corrupt and unreadable) telling me to run chdsk utility ; C\windows\prefetch\nerocheck.exe-092C6DFA.pf and \interator.exe - ran chkdsk and no error maessages now.
every time i start the computer i get a message saying 2the application or DLL C:WINDOWS\system32\mstask.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette

My computers fan runs very fast and blows out cool air 20 minutes after I start it up. Its not the power supply fan, or motherboard fan. Its the one on the side of the computer. Well I cleaned it and its still doing that. Why is my computers fan running fast? The voltage switch on the back of my computer was screwed into place, but the screws fell out and now its just hanging in there. Could that be screwing up the cooling system and making the fan run loud? Also my computer has shut down twice saying it may damage the inside of the computer. Then I was playing a game and it shut it down more than once. Why is that?

Hi,

Basically my PC is messing up quite a lot.

Sometimes, all of a sudden it just restarts. No warning, just restarts itself. It can happen as soon as I get into windows, sometimes it can happen at any random time, or when I'm doing something.

I tried to do a system restore a number of times tonight (needed something back), and it wouldn't work. I might have tried 5 times, it loaded fine, system restore taking place (saw the blue loading bar) and every time as soon as it got to "Restoring settings" (I think that's what it was) it restarted.

Also, a number of times I keep getting the BSOD. "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". When my pc restarts, it's extremely common for me to get the BSOD right after the windows loading screen, then my pc restarts and "load windows normally" gets into windows.

Not sure if these 2 problems are connected, but any help appreciated a lot.

Answer:Computer messing up

The error is most likely RAM related. Google for Memtest86 and get the LiveCD versionand run it. See what results it puts out.

I have a Toshiba M400 and i was wondering how i could reset the bios password. I disabled the finger print scanner recently becuase i decided i dont need it anymore but it still asks for a bios password which i forgot. I used to just swipe my finger and it would let me boot up and all that gravey.

If you guys know how to reset the password. Either physically or through software that would be awesome.

Or if you guys know who is the bios manufacturer for Portege M400's I could probebly give them a call and ask my self.

I could send it in but I want to avoid that and leave it as a last option.

BTW this laptop was purchased in USA.

Answer:Reset BIOS password on Portege M400 - Bios Manufacturer?

You will be not able to remove the BIOS password yourself if you have forgotten it.
As far as I know the manufacture of the BIOS which was preinstalled on Port?g? M400 is......... Toshiba ;)

So you have to contact the authorized Toshiba service provider in your country and only these guys are able to remove the BIOS password which you have forgotten.

Ok...Found a way around.  Phyically removed the SSD and I can once again enter the BIOS and boot off USB and the CD. Rapid Drive was competely incompatible with software I need to run, so was attempting to install a clean copy of Windows and to boot only off the hard drive.  In doing so, I removed the SSD from the Boot list in the BIOS.  After doing so, the system became incapable of booting off of any media.  When I press F2 during post, I just get "Please Wait..."   Pressing F12 just locks up on the logo screen.  Does the system not work when the SSD is removed from the bootable devices in BIOS?  How can I reset my fancy new brick?

Hello. Recently (2 days ago) I have installed the Windows XP SP2 off the cd and after that my computer has ben messing up alot. Games and programs stoped working, windows are freezeing, errors are poping up and I have run all the programs I can think of with no luck. Im not shure its SP2 thats doing it but it seems that it started happening right after. I havent had anything major like system lockups but this is starting to get annoying. Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer crash all the time. Im thinking of just uninstalling SP2 but I wanted to post here first and see what you guys think. I have HJT if you guys need any logs.

Answer:Computer messing up after SP2 install.

Hi

Have you read the sticky on the top of this board re SP2?

If you want to determine whether it's SP2 causing the problems, why not just uninstall it and see?

Answer:Virus messing up my computer

Hi mercenaryfox

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Thanks.

If this is a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing further.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

On with the fix.....

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Been working on this for a few days attached is my GMER and DDS logs. After I had completed a few steps prior to going the GMER and DDS route I figured it was going to be good to go. Well first thing I google searched turned this up

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Too many connections in /home/happili.com/php/comm_includes/mysql.php on line 5

last week I was infected with quite a few things that MWB seemed to fix, apparently not. The computer is still usable however I figure its only a matter of time before it gets worse.

Thanks for the help!

Answer:Happili messing with my computer again

Hello and Welcome to Bleeping Computer!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE:... Was just sitting here today when my computer was downed by a blue screen. I thought nothing of it and turned my computer back on, but the blue screen came back.

Eventually I realized that this is a nasty virus which has taken over, and I'm stumped. I've gone into safe mode repeatedly to try to clense the virus out, I've run Avast and MalawareBytes and Spybot-Search and Destroy. All pick up things, all delete things, but when I log back into Windows the blue screen comes back.

A few things before the blue screen: Loading appears to be normal, then this fake alert shows up in the toolbar and claims that I need anti-viral help. Windows Security Center shows up and says the Antivirus is disabled. Avast claims it can't access the internet. Then the blue screen shows up right after everything loads in startup.

The name of the pest is Pragmad.sys. I've done everything I could to try to get this thing off my system for good. I've deleted traces of it in Windows, I've tried to clean my system with Malawarebytes...but this **** keeps going on whenever I log back in with regular Windows. I've tried to check Google for solutions, but Google just links a bunch of stuff, none of which actually address the issue or mention how to fix the problem. I've tried removing registry logs with Pragmad.sys, deleting the folders it leaves behind in Windows, but no matter what I do, it keeps coming back when I log in with regular Windows.

I'm completely stum... Read more

Hello,It appears that you've got a bad rootkit aboard which will require specialized tools to remove. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to try to resolve them.If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.Orange Blossom

I don't know how this virus got passed my Sygate Firewall but it has successfully messed up my Logitech drivers and my Sygate. I think my firewall is still running it just doesn't show in the system tray anymore. I've run AVG and Trendmicro to try to clean my computer but it still seems to be messed up. Can someone help me get ride of this? I think AVG said it was some sort of Java virus.

And i'm 99% sure i caused it, i downloaded a key generator off of the popular p2p program limewire, (i know, stupid), and almost immediately after, my computer starts running new processes i've never heard of, explorer.exe starts running at 101,000 K rather than the usual 2000k or less, and i cant bear to run a single extra program for fear that my computer will freeze again. (Im running only firefox, the explorer process has been shut down). So if there's anyway you guys can help me get rid of my careless mistake, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

*ps* Gmer.exe would not... well, it wouldn't execute.

Visiting cracksites/warezsites - and other questionable/illegal sites is always a risk.

Even a single click on the site can drop multiple forms of very serious malware, many of which disable your onboard protection, and System Restore.

If you install the cracked software, you are running executable files from these dubious, unknown sources. You are in effect giving these sources access to information on your hard disk, and potential control over the operation of your computer.

Additionally, cracked programs are illegal. Before posting for help, uninstall any such applications.

Referring to the Forum Rules which you should have read at the time of Registering at this forum, TSF does not support illegal activity. Since yesterday I have been getting a message upon startup asking if I want to run WKSSVC.EXE of unknown origin. I have cancelled out of this each time, but I have gotten multiple crashes and error messages, especially with one program, Content Watch, which runs my Net Nanny program. Pls. help!

Spybot won't load, SpyWare Blaster says it can't find an Internet connection to update (the connection is fine). The error message I got when I tried to use Spybot is a dwwin.exe error.

Answer:wkssvc.exe messing with my computer

I was finally able to run Spybot, which found the wkssvc.exe file and "healed" it. I'm not sure if this takes care of all of the damage it may have done. I ran AdAware, which found 232 infections, but will not allow me to remove or quarantine anything (they all appear to have the same IP address of 127.0.0.1--does this mean anything?). I am really concerned about that. I have included a new HiJack This file--can anyone tell me if what I have done has helped? I can't read this file to save my life!

Thanks!

I'm new here, so I'm not sure if I'm doing this the right way, but here goes.

Over the past two weeks, viruses have begun to slowly take over my computer. I've run various anti-virus and anti-malware programs, and while they found and deleted a lot of files, there are still some lingering, very annoying problems. New problems seem to surface everyday, but here's the stuff I know for sure is wrong.

1. Internet Explorer (which I don't use anyway), no longer works properly. My home page is constantly changed to http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=6010&mid=MjI6Ojg5&lid=2 . Any google link I click takes me to http://online-malwarescanner.com/id/4912933/1/1/ .

2. Pop-ups appear anytime I click on a folder or use windows explorer, always the same thing, and I either click cancel or it sends me to one of the sites mentioned above. The pop-up will also appear randomly on its own. Sometimes the website will pop-up on its own as well.

3. I can no longer access my Fonts folder, and when I go to My Videos, it will stay for about two seconds before my screen goes blank for about five seconds, all windows folders are closed, and my desktop wallpaper is reset.

4. Internet Explorer can no longer open up a new window. I have to copy and paste any link I want to visit, as I'll get a blank page if I just click the link.

Like I said, new stuff appears each day, and while the anti-virus/malware programs get most of them, the problems listed ab... Read more

Answer:Trojans, pop-ups and W?nsxs messing up my computer

Hello and welcome to TSF

Your logs suggest the possibility that your computer was attacked by a backdoor trojan. This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please read this: How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

==========

S& D Spybot's Tea Timer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
Expand the "Tools" menu.
Click "Resident".
Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

I disabled/switching my services to manual/stopped my services to speed up my computer using Black Viper's Windows 10 Service Configuration (Black Viper's Windows 10 Service Configurations | Black Viper | www.blackviper.com), and restarted my computer. After I restarted my computer, my taskbar was gone, then back in, then gone, then back in, which I think that it might be okay. Also, when I clicked the Start Button, the Start Menu was not showing up.

Any ideas? I used services.msc to speed up my computer.

Hello guys! I am a newcomer to this forum. My name is Wilson. I have a progblem with the CMD32.exe in my Windows ME. Please advise. Thankyou.

I think the virus have affected my computer for more than a month. Everytime i get to windows, my harddrive will keep loading something madly for like 15 mintues before stopping. I thought it was my harddrive's problem. Eventually i got a firewall program and realized CMD32.exe is trying to connect to some unknown IP. After i did a virus scan... AH! yes! it's a virus!
below is the hijack scan that i did.. but i am not sure what to do..
Please help me. I feel helpless.

Thanks in advance.
Wilson.

Answer:HELP! CMD32 is messing wtih my computer ><

You have the KWBOT.C worm
SEE http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_KWBOT.C&VSect=T

Download Process Explorer
Unzip the package to a location where you will keep it for future use.
Run the extracted procexp.exe file from that location and then right click on the following tasks and choose 'Kill Process Tree'.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMD32.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSTEM32.EXE
If the process is successfully terminated - it will vanish from the task list (much like using Ctrl-Alt-Delete and choosing End Task)
Killing a task in this fashion does not delete any files or registry items - it just gets the task out of the way so that the files we wish to delete are not in use.
Copy and paste the following lines into the Start > Run box, clicking OK after each
deltree /y C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSTEM32.EXE
deltree /y C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CMD32.EXE

Run HijackThis again and check the following items. Doublecheck so as to be sure not to miss one.
Next, close all browser Windows, and have HT fix all checked.

Hi, I posted the other day about a problem and got no responses, however the problem has still been occuring, just not to the extent now that I have been catching it. (http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...ble-desktop-icons-system-fan.html#post8372425)
It seems though that for some reason while I am on the internet, it will suddenly slow and images, etc will start to not show and even some web pages. I hear my fan going at high speed as well. I open my processes and only at this slowing and high fan speed time, there will be two iexplore.exe *32 going at once. I will close out of one of the them (always the one using more) and the problem will stop.

I wondering if someone could possibly help me figure out why this second iexplore is opening on occasion and how I can fix it because if you looked in my last post, if I don't close out of it, it starts to go further into messing up my computer.
Thanks in advance!

I have enclosed the HIjackThis log, the DDS file, and the ATTACH file. My system is a 64 bit, so I could not run GMER.
I also have malawarebytes and Superantispyware that I run weekly and only superanti finds some tracking cookies.

This started a couple of weeks ago and has gotten progressively worse. Whenever I do google searches I am redirected to this (http://63.209.69.107) domain. My browser runs very slow, pages that used to take mere seconds is taking minutes to load. Some programs are not working or opening and operating as they should (Office, Music programs). My iTunes for some reason is trying to download a 45 minute long file. It randomly pops up. I have been without my normal protection (Norton) for 2 months. I downloaded AVG last night and let it run to clean everything out. It found two trojan horses and "fixed" them but the problems are still there with browsing and a sluggish computer. The iTunes download hasn't happened today, though. I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,
Lisa

Asus p5p800 mobo
p4 2.8Ghz
BFG 6800 OC video card
80GB Hard Drive

also if i took the lithium battery out of the mobo and put it back in could that possible fix it??

My friend has a msi motherboard with athlon xp 3200 cpu. He was using two memory slots each having a 256mb stick, then he purchased a Kingston KBR 400/512R 512mb stick and kept one of the 256mb sticks. Next he purchased another Kingston 512mb stick and I installed it for him. Then he started having problems. Late last week, when I was online, a little yellow shield popped up on the bottom of my computer next to the time. I asked my son what it was, and he said that it was Microsoft downloading updates onto my computer, and to leave it alone. Since we still have dial up, (although a DSL service is now coming into our area), it took a few days for all the updates to be finished. I was then prompted to download these onto the computer...it went though a back up, and all sorts of things, and since I am pretty computer illiterate as far as explaining this, I hope it makes sense. Well, it put the new stuff on my computer, and restarted it, and since then my computer has been giving me a lot of trouble. My clock keeps setting itself to random dates, yesterday, it told me it was January1, 2006, and today it was March 5, 2007. I keep getting Cannot Find Server on practically every page I try to load, despite the fact that I check when I dial up, and my connections have been rather high. There is now a new link on my Tools part of the taskbar(?) that says: Diagnose Connection problems. On the Cannot Find Server page is now a prompt that tells me that I should check my Internet connections by using some kind of program from Microsoft, and the prompt tells me to go to this particular link in the Tools section. That prompt wasn?t ever on the page before these downloads. This is driving me crazy because I can barely get to any page online without a Cannot Find Server, which rarely happ... Read more

Answer:Microsoft Downloads Messing Up My Computer?

IMPORTANT: Open Control Panel, then double-click the Automatic Updates icon, make sure to select the Notify me... option is set. This is a good idea anytime (since updates should NOT be installed while you are doing anything on your PC), but even more critical for dialup users.

As to the clock problem:

1) You can download and use a Microsoft utility that can help you.TZEdit that works with WinXP and can be downloaded from, scroll down list to find TZEdit.

Install TZEdit (aka MS TimeZone Editor) and use it to check ALL USA Timezones.

The MAJOR zones should have the Start = Second Sunday of March 2:00:00 AM, End = First Sunday of November 2:00:00 AM.

Note some special USA zones do not observe DST, they will have None set for this time zone set, DO NOT change.

Note that IF all Windows Updates have been installed, the Time Zone problem should have been taken care of. There was an update to fix this.

From your symptoms, if item #1 shows the wrong Time Zone settings, the update was NOT installed. If you use MS TimeZone Editor to manually correct the settings, you do not need the update.

Just in case, you can download the update from

2) Control Panel, Date & Time icon, Time Zone tab, ensure Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes box is checked.

3) Control Panel, Date & Time icon, Internet Time tab. Since you use dialup, UNCHECK the box Automatically synchronize with a Internet Time Server.

I got a virus last week so I activated the free trial of Norton Internet Security 2009 on my laptop. It didn't find the virus, and the firewall was messing with some of my programs so I tried uninstalling it. The virus was making it so nothing executed properly, and therefore the program did not fully uninstall.

I am trying to run system restore to remove the virus, but it won't work thanks to the program (it says restore did not complete, probably due to antivirus software)

So I tried deleting the program manually from C:, and it says I need administrators permission. I went on the hidden admin account and it still didn't let me. I tried modifying the permissions of the program and it wouldn't let me change it so that users can delete the files.

I tried deleting it from CMD and it said the file cannot be found. I deleted it from the registry but that wasn't good enough.

I NEED to get this stupid program off my computer, can anyone help??

First off, I'm working in Safe Mode, so if I'm not supposed to, sorry. But when I don't, I get some weird glitched patches and lines randomly appearing on my screen. Running some programs seems to freeze my computer, too (I tries to run Microsoft Security Essentials and SpyBot on separate occasions, and after a bit of scanning, the screen became messed up and the computer froze both times). This makes it very hard to get anything done, so I'm trying all the scanning in Safe Mode. All this started today.

I've checked my cables and they're connected correctly. I've tried restarting already, and doing System Restore only gives me one restore point that takes me to a point after this all started. I don't know if anyone downloaded anything here recently that could have caused this (it's a family computer). I don't know what else to try, so I came here for help.

I tried running the SysInfo program that's suggested here, but I get an error: "the instruction at 0x00af2597 referenced memory at 0x0575c08d. The memory could not be read."

According to my Control Panel System menu, my computer is:
Compaq, Hewlett-Packard Model SR5050NX
Vista OS 32-bit
Memory is 2 GB
Processors are 2 Intel Pentium D CPU 3.00 GHz, from what the device manager tells me, anyway
I don't know if any other info is necessary, but I'll look for anything you might need.

Also, I tried running the DDS from the sticky thread, but nothing ha... Read more

Answer:Help please, display is messing up and my computer freezes repeatedly

I just noticed how long that post is. That is terribly long.

Anyway, I wanted to give an update: I can't use the normal Windows node now. It freezes on the Welcome screen. I haven't done anything but restart after the scans. Guess I shouldn't have.

I have an HP G72 laptop with a Symantec touch pad. W10 installed an updated driver for the touch pad the other day and it's incompatable with the pad - scrolling doesn't work.

I rolled back the driver and got the pad working again but Windows keeps reinstalling the driver update.

How can I stop this happening?

Hello Steve,

You could see if you may be able to hide the update to stop it from installing until the next new version is released.

For a while now occasionally I will find my computer has decided to restart on it's own, then when I log in, suddenly nothing loads anymore. I'll log in... wait 2-3 minutes... try to open Pidgin and nothing happens.

To solve the problem I have to restart in safe mode and restore to a point from 2-3 days before. It's happened again tonight and now it keeps being unable to restore to the point I chose. Has anyone heard anything about an issue like this and how to stop it? One day after I restored I tried to just update on my own and it told me it failed for an unknown reason.

Also about tonight, it failed on one restore attempt, so I tried to restore a few days earlier and it's been on the "clearing registry" screen for a while now.

At this point I think it'd be best if I just installed XP from my old computer or tried to see if a friend of mine has an MSDNAA copy of Windows 7 free because I'm sick of all the garbage I keep getting from Vista.

Thanks for any help.

I recently bought some monitors (speakers) for my small, in-house studio and due to neccesity, they are only about a foot away from my monitor. Unfortunatly that doesnt seem far enough as they are distorting my computer monitor. It will be quite difficult to re-arrange the room an I'm hoping you all know of a good way to insulate or reflect the magnetic field? Ive seen some options online for ALOT of money ($750 to $1300 for monitor inclosures). Wondering if there is an easy and/or cheap fix

Built my computer about 7 months ago, worked fine up until now.

My PC randomly freezes completely and suddenly. Task manager wont open and I have to reset it, however even after reset it takes forever to boot and it goes straight to the UEFI and not to Windows, even if I exit the UEFI it won't boot into Windows 8.1 until I shut it off completely then turn it back on. My M4 64g SSD (Windows Drive) doesn't show up in the boot menu but does in device manager/my computer, however this is not a new thing. (I suspected the SSD might be failing) The freezing started after having my computer off for 5 days (it's never been shut off for more than a day or two). I can think of no other unusual things I might have done or changed.

So far I have tried...

* Resetting the BIOS overclocks to "default" (they have been stable)

* Running memtest86 for a period of 5 hours with no errors.

* Running MSI Kombuster burn-in-test for about half an hour. (This was happening while playing Battlefield 4 (I thought it might be the game/GPU) but it happens even while watching VLC or browsing Firefox and Chrome on their own. (Didn't crash)

* Freeing up space in the Windows SSD. (It had less than 1GB, now it has 18GB and the problem still occurs.)

* Checked all temperatures of CPU/GPU/Drives/Mobo, nothing is overheating. Under GPU stress test.

It doesn't lag or give warnings it just locks up.

There were several large .tmp files taking up space (4 - 7gb) in my win... Read more
