ZBook 15 G2 will not run .EXE files or enter safe mode

Question: ZBook 15 G2 will not run .EXE files or enter safe mode

Hello,I have a ZBook 15 G2 with Win 7 64-bit. It boots OK but will not let me run any EXE files. As such it is rather hard to troubleshoot. Furthermore I cannot get the computer into safe mode. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might deal with this? Many thanks,harry_t

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all, I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My laptop:
Toshiba A105-S4134
MCE 2005
Intel T2400 Duo Core

1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.

2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).

3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings > Boot Priority

4. When I restarted the PC, I heard the CD Rom drive spin for a few seconds, but the screen stayed lack and didn't boot. After some time passed with no activity, I hit control/alt/delete a couple of times and XP then booted form the HD.

5. I unsuccessfully tried multiple times with three bootable CDs (that worked on another Toshiba laptop), including the Recovery and Apps disk that came with the laptop. Same result. I re-checked boot order a few times and the setting priority was still as I had set it.

6. I then found that I was unable to get into either safe mode or BIOS, or to get the PC to boot from the CD ROM during startup using any of F12, F8, F2... Read more

Answer:Solved: Toshiba: Cannot boot from CD or enter Safe Mode or enter BIOS on startup

Hi,Problem started with comp insisting that Mozilla Firefox was running. Checked in task manager: not running. Uninstalled and reinstalled MF. Could never use MF again. Then, started to get "UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME" when starting up. Message became more common, and recently 3-5 attempts were required every time for successful boot.Last night was unable to access emails, and many websites did not give full access. Notes started appearing whenever I tried accessing these www's, but I forget what they said. Basically indicated the comp was very unhappy.Tried booting today and DOS(?) message changed from UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME to telling that I needed to run a disc check. DSCCHK/ F (?) something like that. Now it will not boot even that far: the screen flashes DELL in very large font, with F2 for setup and F12 for boot menu. After this, the screen goes blank except for curser at top left for 2 seconds, then goes completely blank.Tried to use CD-ROM to boot; no joy.?Cheers.

Answer:XP: can't boot at all: nor enter safe mode etc. can only enter (DOS?) setup menu

Change the boot order in the BIOS to CDROM 1st then HDD via setup...Then boot to the Recovery Console and at the prompt type in chkdsk /r and hit Enter...NOTE: There is a space between chkdsk and the /r switch...Let it run to NOT interrupt it.

All -- any help you can provide would be appreciated. I do not have any desire to pay Lenovo $100 to walk me through the steps of recovering the system.

I have a lenovo ideapad y560 0646 - windows 7 64 bit.

Each time I start the laptop, I get the following error (after the introductory language that says - we're killing the startup to protect you, really, trust us ):

-- ntfs.sys

Then there's the other boilerplate language that it's not microsoft but you, really --

followed by

*** stop: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFF98001680000, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF8801c36344, 0x0000000000000000)

*** ntfs.sys - Address FFFFF88001c36344 base at FFFFF88001c2B000, DateStamp 4a5bc14f

If you can help by pointing to something describing the steps to restore the system, that would be great. Lenovo seems to think all hardware is fine but that the operating system is corrupted.

In short, I was using an air card connected to a PC Card Adapter - inserted in the laptop. Hit hibernate and quickly, without thinking, removed the PC Card Adapter from the laptop. Later, when hitting power on, the blue screen appeared and has not left.

I have tried to enter via safe mode, and that does not work.

There's extensive data on the hard drive that I need to take all practical steps to preserve before blowing it up.

Answer:Blue Screen - Cannot Enter Safe Mode or Any Other Mode

Welcome to SF! davidsawyer

Have you tried reinstalling the pc card adapter and then starting up to see if you can then safely remove it?

As far as the error message itself, "Stop 0x0000007E" or "Stop 0x00000050" Stop error message in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 MS has a fix available at the page there for this type of error.

The thread at is closed without replies, so I can't post this there. I ran into similar issues on a Dell Venue Pro 8. I was trying to boot into safe mode. I was also confronted by the BitLocker error screen asking me for my recovery key. I also saw the "'you must enter your recovery key to access Startup Settings: to protect the privacy of your data, BitLocker has prevented the unlocking of your drive. You'll need to enter the recovery key." message and when I tried to enter my recovery key at the keyboard. nothing happened. I booted in normally and removed encryption. This time I got through the restart screen with the Safe Mode option, but again. the machine was totally unresponsive to any key I pressed. Then I realised the problem. I have a Bluetooth keyboard, and at this stage Bluetooth is switched off! No keyboard connected!! I solved my issues by borrowing a USB keyboard and plugging it into my tablet (on the Dell Venue Pro 8 you have to have a special connector to plug into the micro-USB port). Worked perfectly.

Yes you can do it from Windows, but first when you get the boot screen, select your boot drive and see if the option screen is next. If that doesn't work select your boot drive and hit F8 again.

My G580 suddenly stopped booting into Windows. The first black screen with the Microsoft logo loads but afterwards I just get stuck in a black screen with the cursor which I can move around but nothing more. So, my solution was to get into Safe Mode. Unfortunately although I don't have a password when Win7 boot, I'm asked for one in Safe Mode. The thing is neither the keyboard, nor the touchpad work so I cannot get past the login screen. This is highly frustrating. Is there any idea on solving this? The keyboard works perfectly in BIOS, but not in the Windows login screen for Safe Mode.

Answer:Cannot enter safe mode

hi Haduken,
After Windows loads up with a black screen with a cursor, can you try to press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys on the keyboard (this will open Task Manager).
If successful, try the following:
1. Navugate to File > New Task (Run...) then type explorer
   - Link to picture
2. If nothing happens, Navugate to File > New Task (Run...) then type msconfig. If the msconfig window pops up, follow this guide on how to perform a clean boot.
   - Link to picture
   - Link to picture
If nothing happens after pressing the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys on the keyboard during the black screen with cursor then it's possible that some essential WIndows files might have been corrupted.
Other things that you can try:
a. Access the System Recovery Options using this method. If this is not applicable, follow this guide on how to create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc
b. Turn off the computer, press the OneKey Recovery button and do a factory restore (note that all data will be wiped out on the OS partition)
  - Link to picture
Let me know how it goes.

Help! I have changed the VGA settings for my monitor and after re-boot, I have a blank screen (after the windows start up). I've tried to start in safe mode, but it just runs a bunch of scripts and stalls. I've also tried to start it in any other safe mode, and they do the same thing. I've tried the "last known good configuration" - I get the blank screen. Since I just replaced the hard drive 2 days ago (the old one crashed) I've really got nothing to lose on it so I'll even wipe it clean and start over if someone could tell me how...???

Hi, My Asus laptop is stuck in a startup repair loop while trying to fix error 0x80070091, I've tried following things:
Use this guide: Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery - Windows 7 Help Forums
Use the option 'reset this pc' and tried to use 'system recovery' but all to no avail.
While in this startup repair loop it also seems impossible to enter safe mode. (I've tried to enter safe mode pressing F5 from the startup settings screen). I guess using the tweaking repair program will solve this error (0x80070091) but obviously I have to enter safe mode first. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am new to the forum, but have found you site VERY useful in clearing up past problems.

I cannot enter Safe Mode--F8. However, then there seems to be a loop--with a choice to start up as normal or it returns to the startup choices, etc, etc, etc, (loop).

This started with AVG finding Trojan horse downloader Zlob

on startup this screen would display:

c:\windows\System32\driver\aec.sys Trojan Horse Downloader Zlob.ANMB Infected
(please note: I am not sure if "aec" couldn't read my writing on this-not sure about the "e")

c:\windows\System32\drivers\asynicmac.sys Trojan Horse Downloader Zlob.ANMB Object is whitelisted (critical system file that should not be removed)
(please note: I am not sure if "asynicmac" couldn't read my writing on this not sure about the "i")
AVG said it could/would not fix these 2 problems.
at this point I discovered that Safe Mode was not functioning.

Downloaded and ran (turned off AVG antivirus scan & Windows System Restore)

Avanced System Care --ran twice allowing "fix problems", but still could not use safe mode

Erunt and did backup

Stinger 1001624

Malwarebytes ran deep scan and found no problems (still no Safe Mode)

Enabled AVG and ran deep scan---no errors. Restarted and original pop-up error screen does not appear.

I have an ASUS ET2400INT all-in-one running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The problem is below the divider lines in this post, and right below is my history, which may or may not be related:

Previous occurrences:

A) Screen blank-outs after 6 months. Screen would flicker, then return to normal after 1 sec. Taskbar popup says "NVIDIA display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

B) Started getting BSODs randomly. Then came a point where either a) boot into Windows but freeze on any graphics intensive operation, or b) boot into a blank screen, or c) fail to boot into Windows at all.

C) Problem traced to the video driver/display adapter. Uninstalling the video driver and uninstalling the display adapter stopped the failures to boot, and the BSODs.

D) Ultimately, uninstalling the video driver, PLUS using Phyxion's Driver Sweeper to completely remove it, then reinstalling, stopped the BSODs, login problems, etc.

E) However, in recent months, the screen blank-outs and "NVIDIA display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered" returned. Being busy, I learned to ignore that occasional issue.

Current issue:

Largely normal operations today, except I choose to open a Windows Media Center recording. It does not open. Instead, a message comes up something like "Windows Media Center not responding or unavailable." I decide to restart the whole PC. After "Starting ... Read more

Came here before, got great help from one of the team, JSntgRvr, and am back again after no success in trying to find out what is wrong with my brothers desktop.

Seems for a few months he's been having trouble, and he tried to run MBAM himself unsuccessfully, and then when he said he couldn't get into safe mode he thought it was just his bad timing. He dropped off his pc here.

I've since found I cannot access the internet via wifi on this pc, not set up for it, and.....
in trying to access safemode it just keeps rolling through, then back to the screen that asks which safe mode to enter to, etc.

I also noticed it reads in the upper corner during boot that it has an "invalid boot.ini - loading from c:/windows" problem (can't recall exactly what it said).

It boots slow.
Shuts down slow.
Has a fan running continously.
Freezes up unexpectedly and when it does this a shrill continuous beep tone occurs until we force shut it down.
He says he was having trouble logging onto the internet.

Again, any help here will have to be done on my end by USB drive, since I can't connect it to the 'net.

Thanks in advance for any help, and hopefully I didn't forget any of the issues!

Well Christian22 you can do a couple of things that might work. I would try a couple of things.

1) Try logging into the computer as the administrator and keep the password blank.

2) Oh this might help when the computer is starting up press f8 and try last known good configuration. ( That might work or it might not)

3) If you cannot get into the computer I would go to another computer and copy the boot.ini file boot into dos and copy the file from the floppy to your hard drive.

Entered safe mode a few months ago no problem. Using Windows 8 Pro.

Tried to get into safe mode today but have a problem.

I have tried all the various permutations to get into safe mode (ms config, start up options etc.).

This is what happens: I use MS Config or one of the other ways (tried them all!) to get into safe mode. The computer seems to be booting into safe mode when I get a blue screen (not BSOD) which pops up and very quickly disappears, and then the computer reboots normally (into Windows 8). The screen says something like 'Windows has encountered a problem and needs to restart'. I am not totally sure as it is too quick!

Any thoughts?

First the problem is not with the system Im currently using. Although it is Windows XP ( no internet conntection). I recently turned on my old Windows XP system for my son and it is password protected. Unfortunatley I have forgotton the password. I tried to be smart and before the system turned on I pressed F1 and thought I was doing the right thing and entered a password in " system enabled". I then tried to enter the password I had just put in "security enabled", ofcourse it didn't work. I turned off the system. I then remebered it was F8 that put the system into "safe mode"and could access the system through "Administrater". . I turned the system back on and pressed F8. I got a black screen asking for a password ...then enter to secruity enable or "ctrl enter to secruity disable...well here is the problem I have no keyboard response to enter the password I created in F1 "secruity enable". I have tried to use another key board, still the same problem. I turned off the system, turned it back on to let it start on it's own and I continue to get the same black screen asking for a password for "security enable" or "security disable". No key board response to enter password.

Recently I noticed that Avast! seemed to be blocking some actual programs that it shouldn't. I tried to uninstall Avast! from the uninstall a program selection but it would just crash during the install. I went to the Avast! website and found a tool called Avast Uninstall Utility. After installing on my computer it recommended to use the tool in safe mode and offered to reboot in safe mode for me. My computer restarted and upon trying to enter safe mode I am prompted with the BSOD. I have tried booting normally and through safe mode to no avail.
Also when running windows startup repair, the repair finishes and says it finds no error, however, I am presented with the "send to Microsoft" screen but I am unable to navigate this menu with my mouse nor my keyboard to access other windows startup repair features.
I am typing this on my laptop. Thanks in advance for any help!

Are you able to get into Windows at all?
Can you send these reports:  Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):
If unable to get into Safe Mode, first try these bootable diagnostics:
If using a UEFI system you may have to make some changes in the UEFI in order to boot from the disks.
If you have difficulties, please let us know the make and model of your system (or of the motherboard if it's a custom built system).

My computer will not let me enter into safe mode. Is there any reason why this is happening? I have a Trojan Horse Clicker.FM and RazeWare Spyware infecting my computer and I can't get into safe mode to run HighJackThis. Can anyone help?

Answer:My Computer Will Not Let Me Enter Into Safe Mode.

I am not sure why your computer will not boot to Safe Mode. Are you following the instruction in "Preparation Guide for use before posting a HijackThis Log"? If not you need to review them prior to proceeding. There is no mention of running the HJT application in Safe Mode. According to the instruction you will run it from your Desktop.

I haven't needed to use Safe Mode for about a month or two. But after I installed Comodo's security suite free version my desktop would freeze due to a damaged file that belonged to Comodo.
Ok so I restarted and hit F8 to get into safe mode as I have done a zillion times in the past when troubles arise. Selected Safe Mode selected My OS and then the screen where windows system32 is loading all the Safe Mode drivers. When the list of drvier's zips by and gets to the bottom it just sits there and nothing happens. It stays frozen on the screen that shows the list of drivers loading, and my towers busy light stays on but there's no hard drive activity going on from what I can tell.

Window boots up just fine in normal mode and everything works the way it should after I was able to uninstall Comodo which took forever since everything would freeze in half an hour intervals. I don't know if Comodo has or had anything to do with safe mode messing up, I'm only mentioning it because it's the only reason that has made me need to use safe mode in a while.
Safe Mode might have been messed up before I ever even installed Comodo for all I know. But safe mode worked just fine the last time I needed it about a month or two ago.

I tried the other options to enter safe mode too, like with command prompt etc... to no luck.

PS: I also had installed a program before Comodo called Spydllremover since it had good reviews and seemed to be trusted but when I ran it nothi... Read more

I suggest running a thorough series of malware checks...and then running the chkdsk /r command.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (space between k and /) and hit Enter. After onscreen blurb pops up, type Y in response and hit Enter. Reboot the system, the chkdsk /r command will run, then the system will reboot into XP after command has completed.

I am running Windows XP Professional (SP3). It shut itself off and Windows won't restart; it goes to the logo/splash screen and hangs there.

I get a choice of several options, all of which don't work:

- Last known good configuration and Start windows normally; these lead to it hanging at the logo screen (for hours).

- Safe Mode, three kinds (plain, with command prompt, with networking) -- a series of commands or file names scroll down the screen, then they freeze; nothing else happens The file names are all in windows\system\drivers, and the last one (where it hangs?) is Mup.sys

I tried booting from the original Win XP CD to get to the Recovery Console or do a repair installation. When I did this yesterday, it copied files and tried to start windows and then gave me an error message (windows has detected an error and needs to shut down), but then when I tried to restart Windows normally, Win XP started up fine. So that seemed like the solution. Except -- today WinXP shut itself down while I was working again and couldn't restart itself, and now the "fix" via booting from the Win XP CD doesn't work. I get stuck at the logo screen. I've tried repeatedly, but it doesn't work.

I can get into the BIOS by pressing "Delete", but don't know of anything to do in BIOS to help Windows start up.

Some background: I did not add any new hardware or software recently. I don't think it's a virus or malware. I ha... Read more

If custom desktop...consider the PSU as a suspect.

Have you tried running the chkdsk /r command from the Recovery Console? If not, please do so.

If chkdsk /r completes with no errors/interruptions...I would follow that up with the appropriate hard drive diagnostic, long test.

I suggest...that you refrain from your inclination to run multiple AV programs...and uninstall all except one.

In the event that chkdsk /r cannot complete...please write down any onscreen error message exactly as it appears.

Recently had an issue with bsod 0xc5 that would not allow me onto the computer at all. Not in safe mode, normal mode, last known good config, etc.
Fumed over it for a couple days and tried starting up the computer again and it would allow me into safe mode now.
Tried system restore twice and it didn't do anything.
I got my xp service pack 2 disc and tried deleting the partition and reinstalling, but when it gets to the final phase of installation where it's saving the settings and it only has 3-5min left to complete it comes up with a new bsod 0xD0, "Driver corrupted MMPOOL".
I searched around on the internet and saw that people recommended using verifier.exe to fix that problem, but when I try to get into safe mode to run it the xp installer keeps popping up and tells me that I can't install from safe mode and restarts the computer. I can't stop the installer from coming up where it left off at 40min to complete.
Any help is appreciated.

Let me start from the beginning. A few weeks ago, I shut down my Windows 8.1 laptop by holding the power button. I know that's not the proper way, but I was in a rush. The next day, I turned on my laptop but instead of giving me the log-in screen like usual, after showing the Toshiba loading screen, it takes me to a black screen. A few seconds later, the screen darkens. There is no mouse. This has never happened before, and the only way to shut it down was to hold the power button. I tried again, and the same thing happened. I have not been able to fix it. I did read online that it might be a driver issue, so I tried to enter safe mode through that automatic system repair. However, this did not work, because I got the blue screen with the text:

Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart...... blah blah

I have no intention of reinstalling my Windows 8.1. I've tried a lot of things:
I can't use system restore because I have it turned off (this was stupid of me)
I have tried waiting
I have tried cmd commands like bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot

I am getting frustrated and have lost all hope that it can be fixed.

Is there anything I can do?
BTW, this laptop is ~4-5 years old.
I have a lot of files in there that I haven't backed up, and I don't want to lose them.
If this is the wrong place to put this post I'm sorry. I couldn't decide where this belonged.

Oh, and I should add that if I let the power run out and plug it in and then turn it on, the same thing hap... Read more

Help would be appreciated:

My computer is running horribly slow and so I've tried to enter safe mode but I get a blue screen with instructions.

It says to check to be sure you have adequate disk space. Says to disable the driver (causing problems) or check with manufacturer for driver updates or try changing video adapters.

I had to type this from another computer.

You can enter the advanced boot menu only using the F8 button.
Did you try to press it several times in row?
You should press it immediately after the notebook has been powered up!

Sorry but other way is not known to me?

You could try to boot using an Windows Vista disk.. this could help to repair the OS.
In worst case you have to reinstall the OS... :(

Just the other day i reset my computer but to my surprise it did not load up XP, instead it stayed with a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left hand corner. I thought it meant it was taking longer to load but it is just stuck there and i can't access my files!

i can hit f2 and enter bios but not too sure if that can help me. pressing f8 doesn't open up the safe mode option page, i think it's stuck in a screen before that is enabled.

how can i fix this from bios or are there any variables i haven't considered?

there are no disks/cd's in the drives

1. Can spyware or malware lock up my computer like this?

2. I am dual booting operating systems (XP and Vista RC1). So i am stuck before the screen where i can choose with OS to run.

I really need access to my files as quickly as possible and i sincerely thank everyone who replies in advance.

My computer was working fine - then I put it to sleep and then unplugged it from the wall (and my computer has no battery life so it was shut down immediately) When I plugged it in and turned it on again, the lights went on and the about 4 seconds later, before the screen had even come on, the computer turned off again and tried to restart. It is like a boot up loop but I can't enter BIOS or anything because it's before anything really loads or comes up on the screen. I really need help as I don't have any backups of important work. (and I've tried F1, F2, F10, Delete key, F8 and F9 but none work)Thanks.

I'm going to be upgrading my video card, so I need to uninstall the existing drivers and video card software, then swap out the old card for the new one and install the new drivers/software.

I want to reboot Windows into Safe Mode before uninstalling the video drivers for the existing card, but the problem is I can't figure out how to reboot into Safe Mode with WindowsXP Home.

I went to Windows Help (Start > Help and Support, then searched "Safe Mode") and got this:

Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut Down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.

I've tried several times to start in safe mode on XP. All of the guides I've referenced say F8 is the key. However, when I boot, the only functions I see on the screen that only lingers for a moment are F10 and esc.
I've tried the tapping method also. Nothing.
I'm talking about an hp notebook, if that helps.
Any advice that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

i wasn't very clear with the title i guess, but what ever. here is my story.

my computer is about 4 years old, and the power supply blew, i thought this after the black screen flashes and auto restarts. i opened it up and saw some pieces had melted, or become deformed. so i go to best buy and get a new power supply, and wth, a video card, i figure it was time to replace the geforce4 ti 4600. i install the power supply and the new card and turn the power on. all it showed was my comp specs and said "A: Drive error" , i went into bios and disabled the search for the A: drive , because i couldn't care less. then it brought me to the screen to choose to open in safe mode, normally, or from the last point where windows worked well. problem : i can not use my keyboard in this setting, it works in bios, but i cant choose to load from the last working point of the OS.

i apologize for my short story, i really miss final fantasy 11 already ( /sigh) and am ancy to play again.

thank you for your help

Hi --

Yesterday my laptop (Dell 700m XP Pro SP3, fully up to date) would not start. Safe mode didn't work either -- it hasn't for a long time, not that that was ever a problem until yesterday -- giving a bsod immediatly after loading sptd.sys, which I believe is a known problem with it.

I fixed my inital problem in the end by using the recovery console to restore a copy of the registry from a restore point from the previous day.

I'm now turning my attention to getting safe mode working. I first uninstalled the Daemon Tools virtual drive, and renamed sptd.sys. Testing safe mode again gave me a STOP 7B in BtHisMgr.sys, so BlueSoleil was uninstalled and, that proving insufficient, the offending driver was renamed. Next up was BtHidBus.sys, then giveio.sys, now MUP.sys.

I'm being to feel I'm going to end up uninstalling *everything* in order to get into safe mode, and there's probably an underlying reason that none of these are working.

Can anyone suggest where I should start with this?

Happy Christmas to all.

There are no settings for Keyboard or Mouse in my BIOS setup, so perhaps someone else has an idea of how to get round this.

Thanks Chris

I left my laptop running for a while when i left the room. When I came back it had frozen, I hadn't been doing anything untoward, I had been running a few programs at once, just like firefox and word. Anyway I had to turn it off with the power button. Then when I tried turning it back on I was able to log in but there was no desktop, just a black screen, same thing when I used safe mode. Now whenever I turn it on it goes to a disc check and when it gets to a certain number it says its unreadable and safe search just plain doesn't work. If you can tell me a way to get back to normal that would be great but it looks to me like the whole thing is pretty much f**ked and I'm gonna lose all my files. So is there anyway I could do a restore to factory settings (restoring to another time also didn't work) would that even help?

Hello community

I?m facing a problem that i can?t solve. I have windows 7, upgraded to windows 10....

I had "Avira" installed on my Acer, but the constant publicity made me uninstall it with revo uninstaller, in the end, when i reboot, i couldn?t enter in my BIOS, safe mode, or windows.

After reading numerous forums, i can?t seem to find a solution, the only thing i could fix was entering in the BIOS again, by removing the "BIOS battery" and plug it in again. After this, windows shows up again the load screen, he also shows the log in screen, but after the login screen i only get a Black Screen where i can only see the mouse pointer.

I also notice that if i press Ctrl+Alt+Del, i can get into task manager, i can also bring up command prompt running it through the task manager, but my desktop is completely dark/gone......

I also try to run explorer.exe from the task manager but nothing happens, i checked if any other instance of explorer was runnig but no luck, there isn?t any......

I also did a command in my cmd, "taskkill /f /im explorer.exe" that i read in a forum to reset explorer.exe, but in the end it only shows up an Error saying he can?t connect to the server.......

I also tried Hiren?s boot cd, but with so many options i don?t know what to choose, i only did a check disk (no errors found), a memory test (no errors found), i also run malwarebytes, it found 2 malware files in system32, but after i reboot to clean them, i... Read more

Hi there

HP has a built in recovery function.

Press F11 on startup to reload your machine. Thats if the hard drive is still in working order.

**HP has an option to backup your files before it reloads. You will need an external hard drive or large flash stick depending on how many files you have to backup.

Hi all,
Sorry for not following the posting instructions but I am unable to download anything on the PC in question.
My mom has an Inspiron N5050 which she recently upgraded from windows 7 to 10. Today it said it was updating and not to restart it, but after several hours of a black screen she decided to force off and on again. Now it will only say "preparing automatic repair" and "diagnosing your PC" before leading to the blue screen.
Can't figure out how to get into safe mode, F8 does nothing. Can't use system restore (no restore points), can't use reset pc or "startup recovery" (they give unspecified errors), "Startup Settings" claims it can get me into safe mode but upon restarting I'm brought back to the old blue screen with no new options. Is there something I can do from command prompt? I tried "msconfig" but it won't recognize it.
Also ran the Dell diagnostic test from setup (F2) which reported no problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much.

Hey everyone,

Recently, my computer was infected with spyware. I ran Spyware Doctor to eliminate it, and that worked fine. It deleted a lot of adware and trojans. However, my computer was still acting strange, so I performed a full system scan with Spyware Doctor. This time, it found a lot of high-risk spyware.

Half-way through the scan, my computer started to initiate a shut-down. I couldn't stop it. I assume the spyware caused that. Now, once I turn my computer on, Windows won't boot. I just get a blank black screen with a cursor.

I tried to start it in safe mode by pressing F8 at the start-up, but that doesnt work either.

Can anybody help me out?

Hi All,

Can some one help me with the creation of a batch file which when run from normal mode it should take me to Safe mode with networking.

considering the OS to be Xp and above, and with the next restart it should stay normal .

Thanks & Regards,
Ganesh Kumar AC.

Answer:Batch file to enter Safe mode with networking...

I don't think you could do this with a single batch file.

Your options for booting into safe mode:
1) F8 key at boot up.
2) Msconfig: Check the safeboot option on the boot.ini tab
3) Create a separate entry in your boot.ini file that gives a normal boot option like you have now and another one for safeboot with networking. Set the TimeOut value to 5 seconds so that you have time to select which boot option you want. This way you don't have to tap F8 at startup.

Now I do recall us having talked about this in the past and I think there be another option with 3rd party software but I cannot find the thread that talked about this.

Okay, so I reserved my free copy of Windows 10 a few days ago, and tried to install this morning. It all seemed to be going smoothly... then everything disappeared, and I was left with a black screen for three hours. Finally in frustration I powered off and on again; The blue windows 10 logo appeared, and the loading wheel span for a few seconds, followed by the black screen again - no cursor or anything. I can't enter safe mode, either - it makes a really violent buzzing sound whenever I hit F8. I'm worried my laptop is irreparably damaged... can anyone help with this? I'm upgrading from Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop (or trying to).

Answer:Black screen, no cursor, can't enter safe mode

Okay, I entered the boot menu and ran a diagnostic, just to get the computer to do something. It re-booted afterwards, and the Windows 10 menu reappeared saying it was running "Automatic Repair". It's now giving me a blue screen with three options: "Exit and continue to Windows 10", "Troubleshoot," or "Turn off PC". Can someone please tell me what I should do?

Hello once again,

The computer that I am currently having trouble on was working just fine for the past 2-3 weeks since its several hardware upgrade. I experienced no major problems with it and was able to use it up until about three days ago. One night it was working just fine and the following day it just would not boot into Windows.

It would go through the BIOS check and whatnot, up to the Windows XP logo with the loading bar moving and right before it reach the user selection screen I would get a Blue Screen of Death. It went by really fast and immediately rebooted itself so I was not able to see what was the error message at the time.

It went for like this for a couple of reboots until I finally decided to enter into Safe Mode. I was not sure what was wrong and just ran Ad-Aware, Spybot and anti-virus but it found nothing.

I then decided to just try and use the repair option from booting up with the Windows XP CD and choosing the install Windows>repair method. I recall during this process, it had trouble copying various .dll and other files from the I386 file and I ended up just having it ignore that file and continue with the installaion.

After everything was done and it rebooted itself was when I started getting the various 0x000000** error messages. I got some 0x00000050 and 0x0000008E error message which I think is tied in to my video adapter and RAM when trying to boot into normal mode. And 0x0000007B error message when trying to boot into Safe Mode.

the problem is that the Window XP log out automatically without my autorization, and therefore i tried to enter the safe mode to have a scan,

however, i got problem, in the Black-background screen where i can choose safe mode, i chose "safe mode" but it pop to another
Black-background screen where there is only one option " Windows XP Home Edition" so i chose this only option, the computer functioned as normal, until i choose the " User" and enter the window of safe mode,

the screen was totally in black and with a box "cmd.exe" where i can enter some code, i think. And then i rebooted the computer to try to get into the normal windows, it functions, but i think that it's still under the thread of a Trojan, or other kind of virus.

i scan through the computer in Windows, but no infected file is reported. i am very worried about it

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I tried tapping F8 while booting and tried holding F8 down while booting and I can't bring up Safe Mode. This is a particular concern tonight because I read that inability to boot into Safe Mode is a symptom of Conflicker infection. However, I downloaded MS patch 958644 last October and I ran both MS OneCare scan and Conflicker scan and both are negative.

Hello, guys!
Yesterday I've bought a new PC and successfully installed Windows 8.1.
After a few installations of software (vlc, utorrent...) I've had a blue error screen, after that I can't even get into login screen, windows just won't load "an unexpected i/o error has occurred 0xc00000e9"
I've tried to boot from usb with my windows 8.1, but after Asrock logo (sometimes even without it ) it is just a blank screen.
I can't get into safe mode either ( don't know how. F8 won't work ). First time I've managed to do this while booting the same usb, but now it won't work.
I've tried to install windows 10 on usb and oh yes... it booted after almost 2-3 hours of waiting and everything was very slow. I could not install it due to mbr error. Windows sees my SSD and HDD, so they must be fine, right?
So I installed a new copy of windows 10 into my usb ( gpt, fat32 ).
And... now I can't get past black screen after booting. I see basic screen with windows 10 + memory test. I select windows 10 install or recovery tools, I see Asrock logo and... black screen.
Same with windows 7. "Windows is loading files" and then there is just a black screen.
My motherboard is Asrock z170 Pro4s.
Help me please, I don't know what to do.
I am very sorry for my english.

HELP - Yesterday my XP quickly went through all the stages of infiltration by the Blaster worm, including RPC captions and random forced shutdowns. Unfortunately I was unable to secure a fix and used SYS RESTORE before I learned NOT to do that!

Now when I try to go into safe mode the screen fills with lines of text -- mostly looks like a listing of sys32 files -- and I am seemingly locked out of any actions.

Is there some other way I can go into safe mode and/or make any meaningful changes, or should I seek professional help?? At least I have access to another computer...
