Synaptics driver update for Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

Question: Synaptics driver update for Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017). After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad. I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor. I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information. Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Synaptics driver update for Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a 'problem' with the PS/2 ports.I use the (bundled) USB Keyboard and USB mouse therefore nothing is connected on the PS/2 ports.Unfortunately the PS/2 ports cannot be disabled and this also keeps Windows detecting and installing a "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad driver".This driver also installs a service "SynTPEnh Caller Service" "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnhService.exe" and many files so I'm looking in a way to disable the PS/2 ports. Mostly due to the installation of this unneeded driver/service package. Unfortunately the UEFI Setup doesn't allow me to disable the PS/2 ports. HP: please add the option to disable the PS/2 ports. (Show hidden devices) Hardware IDsACPI\VEN_SYN&DEV_3006ACPI\SYN3006*SYN3006 Regards,Arian van der Pijl!

I did a clean install of win7 (yeah for me!) on my acer aspire 5336-2524. I also downloaded the device driver for Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad, unzipped it, and I think I installed it? I did an auto search for the best driver and result was the best driver was installed.

My problem is this, there used to a function within Personalize > Change Mouse Pointers > then touch pad. Here is where I could stop the function of the scroll bar along the right side of the touch pad and make scroll work with two fingers.

I don't know if that function was part of acer or Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad. But I want it back!

also there is nothing of the original factory install because when I made all the restore and back up it was crap, I found out after I needed it.

I recently needed to adopt a new USB mouse for use with my dependable Toshiba P105 S6024 Satellite. I never use the touchpad. I installed Intellipoint 6.3 and was enjoying the mouse when I realized my keyboard no longer worked, nor could I activate the touchpad. I have yellow exclamation points by both the keyboard devices and touchpad device (represented as another mouse)
I've uninstalled Intellipoint software and allowed Windows XP Media SP3 to install generic drivers, for which the mouse work fine. Tried to update, reinstall and replace drivers for Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad according to various instructions, none of which were successful. The keyboard lights flash when rebooting but go off. I didn't know if by luck, my keyboard is just fried but it seems that there may be a trick to the way these drivers have to be installed? I've experienced all types of errors in my quest, but usually when I attempt to install driver, Device Mgr says "A driver/service is disabled for this device".
Or, "Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad cannot install, the service cannot be started because it has no enabled devide". Also, when I had the MS Mouse installed, when I attempted to access the mouse software, I get the message that it was unable to connect to the Synaptics Device Driver, then opened anyway. I've also seen "this may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later". I've found NO good instructions on the proper procedure ... Read more

I cannot believe how bad this touchpad is. I've had two customer support reps take over my computer and the problem still isn't fixed. The problem: The tap function is extremely erratic. Sometimes it takes one tap. Sometimes two. Sometimes 5 to execute the simple function of closing a tab on a browser, or electing a utility in a software app, or clicking on a link and opening it. etc. etc. Then, sometimes I tap and the cursor lurches....  This is my 3rd HP computer, but this is unacceptable. Fix it Hewlett Packard. Signed, A very unhappy customer

Dear Support Team, For a couple of days, the mouse on my HP EliteBook behaves erratically. It starts right away at the start of Windows when the log-in screen with the different profiles appears. I can neither click on any profile nor on the shut-down button. However, I can select a profile via the arrow-keys and the Enter button of my keyboard. Once Windows has loaded, the mouse acts normally. However, after a couple of minutes (or sometimes hours), the mouse starts to behave erratically again. Either the left-click is activated repeatedly, also turning the pointer into scroll mode, or neither left-click nor right-click are reacting at all. Funnily, I discovered how to "unfreeze" the mouse in the latter case: I simply need to start the Windows Task Manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del and the arrow-keys. Once the Task Manager is open, the mouse works normally again. This does not apply to the former phenomenon, though, when the left-click is activated repeatedly. I have consulted many forum entries and tried many remedies. My BIOS is up to date and I also updated the mouse driver via the Device Manager. This last attempt even made things worse. Since Windows installed the driver Synaptics TouchPad V7.0 (Synaptics Pointing Device - v15.0.24 03Jun10), I cannot use the "Tap and Drag" function by holding the second click on the touchpad any more, even though the option is activated in the aforementioned TouchPad V7.0 settings. This applies to all times, even when the mou... Read more

Dear all,
Since yesterday, the built-in TouchPad mouse does not react anymore. In properties it says "the device is working properly", but it doesn't...
I am now using an external mouse.
How can I restore the TouchPad mouse? When I open the control panel, I get the possibility to uninstall the Synaptics driver. Should I?
Thanks for your help!

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all. Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic. So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop? Thanks in advance, stfn

hi stfn-64,my personal opinion on this case, i don't think either lenovo or synaptics will share the main source codes with you or anyone else.at this point, i suggest you to try to update drivers synaptics. it may solve your issue.hope this helps.

Just Installed (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop today, what a pain, tried an update first on my 32 bit but had problems so I decided to go ahead with installin 64 bit as my computer was compatible.

Anyway, got it installed and I'm re-installing my software.

Main problem is I can't seem to get a driver for my touchpad on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Siemens just over a year old. Fujitsu do not have 64 bit drivers but I got one from Synaptics.com which is supposed to be compatible and signed but when I try to run it I get the error message that it is not a Win32 app.

Anyone got an answer for me.

I just had to replace the top cover, including touchpad, on an Acer 5741 running Windows 7 64 Home Premium, because the old cover had cracked near the hinge. The new cover appears identical to the old one, and everything works, but the symantics touchpad software doesn't recognize the touchpad as a touchpad; it shows as a "wheel mouse on PS/2 port". Therefore, I can't turn off the incredibly annoying "tap to click" function. The option to disable tap to click is grayed out... it appears that's because the touch pad is seen as a "mouse" not a touch pad, as it was before.

When no drivers are installed, Device Manager just sees it as a PS2 Mouse. When drivers are installed, Device Manager sees it as Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad.

The OS is entirely up to date. I have tried the latest Synaptics drivers, I have tried using the original driver version that came with the laptop, and I have tried a couple of versions in between. I have repeatedly uninstalled the "touchpad" or "mouse" in device manager, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.

Yesterday I tried removing the laptop's keyboard to expose the ribbon cable that connects the touchpad to the board underneath. I thought that if I disconnected and reconnected the cable, that device manager might see the touchpad AS a touchpad, rather than as a mouse. No luck. I tried this with the computer powered up in Windows, and Windows never ident... Read more

Answer:Acer Synaptics Touchpad - Finding Internal PS/2 port in Device Manager

The working Gateway (Acer) laptop we have here shows the touchpad in Device Manager under "Mice & Other Pointing Devices" and it is listed as a "Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad". Location: "Plugged into PS/2 Mouse Port"

So I think you are chasing your tail with the PS/2 port. I recall there being another reason why the annoying "Tap to Click" feature is greyed out. I will employ Google to see if I can find that.

EDIT: this may be a cause here:

Your model may have a Elantech or ALPS touchpad. Are you positive it is a Synaptics?

I installed an earlier version (for XP) and it works, but I can't change the settings. I click the icon in the tray, click Device Settings tab, and click Settings under Devices. Normally a box should pop up but for me nothing at all happens.

Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite a100. I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works? I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install). Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10". Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens. Any help?

Touchpad just stopped working while I was using it. Here's what's going on:

Fn + F7 does nothing
Synaptics ps/2 Port Touchpad shows in Device manager, however it is hidden and has a yellow exclamation point. Error code: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24).

I have updated the drivers from the Gateway website by first uninstalling the drivers that were present. No go. I then updated the drivers from the synaptics website via the same method, nothing. I've tried searching for a driver via device manager....nothing.

As I mentioned, I tried Fn+F7 and nothing happened. Also I notice that the driver software is not loading in the tray like it used to and I can't even make it run by trying to open the .exe file.

Any ideas? I've been searching for an answer for this for a while with no luck.

Hi There,

I have a synaptics touchpad driver installed on my laptop it is listed in my mouse options under devices settings as "Synaptics Pointing Device - v25.0.4" and under devices in the same tab the name is listed as "Synaptics touchpad v7.2".

The problem I am having is that in the devices settings tab I have checked the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing devices is attached" because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing. Problem is that when I want to use the touchpad and unplug the mouse, the touchpad will work fine until I shut down the computer. On startup (whether clean boot or restoring from standby) the touchpad will no longer work (with or without a mouse connected). When this happens I have tried a fresh reboot of the laptop, but the problem remains. I have tried reconnecting my mouse before shutting down or closing the lid of my laptop but the problem persists. Some times when using the touchpad the power cord on my laptop unplugs and when I plug it back in the touchpad no longer works, yet when I unplug the cord it will work again. I don't get any error messages when any of these things happen, they just happen without warning.
When I go into my mouse settings and go to the device settings tab, the devices list is now empty and all other options are greyed out, including the check box to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connec... Read more

Answer:Synaptics touchpad driver keeps breaking

Quote:
because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

Okay, on my laptop, the process SynTPEnh.exe governs the touchpad. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, the process quits. If i restart the process, it usually closes again within 15 seconds of the process being restarted. Does anybody have any insight about what causes this and how it can be stopped?

Also, after i restart the computer, SynTPEnh.exe stays on for a while and the cycle i described previously continues.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510P with Windows 8.1. For months or longer, I have been having an issue with the touchpad software. After days of use it will stop responding to advanced commands like two finger scrolling unless I restart the computer. If I try to access the icon in the right corner on the taskbar, the application will not open. It cannot be right clicked. If I try too much the taskbar freezes. I tried to access Mouse in control pad - no response, I couldn't access it. I tried to look for updates for the driver and it would always say it is totally updated or when I manually download one it would say that it is already installed or something.

So today I decided I would fix this problem. I uninstalled the application, and removed the driver in the Drivers section in control panel. I downloaded the program again from the Synaptics site for my computer and tried to install.

The message: "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed. If you continue installation, the driver may not install properly. To avoid this problem, press 'No' to exit setup...

I never pressed no the multiple times I tried to install and install would always fail after about 15 seconds. I then looked for traces of Synaptics on my computer in Program Files and Driver folder. Deleted all Synaptics folders and emptied recycling bin.

Problem still persists. Need help. I rebooted my computer a couple times along the way, but not after I deleted those folder... Read more

This is now the third forum I have posted to regarding this issue.I've been to Sevenforums and to the HP forums.I don't know how/when this happened (because I rarely restart my pc) but,I recently had to restart after some updates and after restarts now it seems that I have to physically load the Synaptics touchpad driver in order for things like (in particular) two finger scrolling) to work.

I uninstalled the Synaptics driver (because Synaptics site has a newer version.HP,so far, isn't supporting the new one). I was instructed to restart the pc after uninstalling the old driver and before installing the new one. That's when the problems started. After booting to the Windows login screen, the keyboard became disabled and I was unable to use the pc.

I've done a system restore and all is back to normal. But,I'm still left with the original problem (having to physically load the Synaptics software because it's not loading itself). Have any of you ever experienced this problem and if so,how did you remedy this situation ?

Honestly...if you have an HP system...you should get your drivers for basic functions from the HP website.  Theoretically, all drivers for a specific item SHOULD be useable...but "should" is a word that often does not apply to OEM systems, IMO.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit system, and have used it for over a year with no problems. This problem started kinda weird out. I was watching a movie, and I paused it to go take a smoke. I came back five minutes later and now I couldn't move the cursor from the touchpad, or barely. I tried deleting the synaptics driver and installing the latest version quite a few times. Here's the thing though, the touchpad works without the driver, though sometimes left click, and right clicking doesn't work, however I'm still able to move the cursor. When I install the synaptics touchpad driver left click and right click works, but I am not really able to move the cursor. I can see the touchpad respons to the pressure of my fingers moving across it, but it doesn't move the cursor along the screen or only a small amount.  I have tried different prressures on the touchpad, but with no luck. The problem occurred a few hours ago.

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

The touchpad on my HP 840 G1 is going crazy! I upgraded from Win 8.1. and installed all the appropriate drivers from the HP page, but the touchpad enhancements keeps failing randomly, with material (supposedly) copied to the clipboard being replaced by the failure message and the entire Mouse options panel being inaccessible because "Control Panel extension is incompatible with Driver". At times, the whole thing is barely functional and it's quite a nuisance because I use this machine for work. What do I do?

Hi all.

I have a friend who is having trouble making his Toshiba Satellite L50-A (PSKLWA-004001), Touchpad work. He said it hasn't been working several months so he has been using a USB mouse instead.

I first tried installing the driver from 'mytoshiba' and no drivers were available for windows 10 (64bit) so I tired the windows 8.1 driver and that didn't seem to work.

Then I saw that Synaptics had a windows 10 driver (same at pinned thread) especially for the touch pad so I installed the PS/2, SMBus one which I believe is the one built-into the laptop and it installed, restarted and no luck there either.

I did the latest windows updates and then it also detected an update for the touchpad driver, so it then installed via windows update and still no luck.

I know that this is not a simple case of Fn+f5 because the function key settings show that the touchpad is enabled and strangely the device manager does not have any device listed under mouse/pointing devices other than the USB mouse.

I believe this is a case, of the right driver has been found but is not installing, but I could be wrong .

Hello,  After upgrading to Windows 10, a new version of the Synaptics Touchpad driver for my X220T was automatically installed. However, I soon found that 2-finger scrolling is extraordinarily slow, even after manipulating some of the Synaptics control panel settings such as "scroll speed", and that "inertia" pointing has been turned on by default, which is very annoying.  I have been able to hide the update for now (using the wushowhide.diagcab tool) even though hiding updates in Windows 10 is far more convoluted than in Windows 8.1 and have installed the Windows 8.1 driver from Lenovo Downloads instead.  My question is, when will a driver from Lenovo or with appropriate fixes from Synaptics be released? William

Hello! I just upgraded my storage to SSD, so I did a fresh install of my OS along with the drivers. Unfortunately I don't seem to find Synaptics Touchpad UI Driver for my Inspiron 3452. Can anybody help us with this please? The user interface looks like attached that's what I'm refering to.
Note : I've tried driver from the download & drivers section support for my notebook, but none of those are working.

My touchpad driver will not install. I have uninstalled the driver and then tried intalling the synaptics touch driver from both Synaptics site and Acer's. Once I have attempted the install and restarted my laptop it still says it is using a generic Microsoft PS/2 driver. Clicking on the mouse option in control panel yields the following error message "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" I have attempted installing the Synaptics driver version v19.0.19.1 from the synaptics website, and version 19.0.25.5 from Acer's website. (EDIT) I am in windows 10 Education build 14393

Within the last year the Synaptics touchpad on my Ideapad Y530, running Windows 7 Pro, became intermittent.  Because I use a mouse, this was not much of an issue but I did try to fix the problem.  I read all the forums, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, even trying some other drivers from the Synaptics website (this may not have been a good idea).  Nothing worked and I let it rest.  Most recently I took the laptop to a meeting and forgot the mouse.  Negotiating through Windows is not all that easy without a mouse or buttons, but I did manage to get what I wanted and get out gracefully.  So, I decided to revisit the touchpad issue. The first thing I noticed is that the touchpad is not listed in the Device Manager.  There is an Unknown Device but trying to install a driver using the automatic search did nothing.  I uninstalled and reinstalled using the driver from the Lenovo site.  It does not work.  I then saw that in the C:\Drivers\ folder, Windows explorer shows TWO Synaptics Pointing Device Driver folders.  I uninstalled the driver and one folder went away but the other is still there.  I tried to delete this folder but Windows Explorer says it Could not find this item.  If I try using the CMD prompt, a dir shows the directory but if I try to CD Synaptics Pointing Device Driver it says PATH NOT FOUND.  In Windows Explorer I can double click on the folder and it shows three entries (the ones ins...  After Powering on press F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in Bios, press F9 to reset the settings to factory and press F10 to save and exit BIOS.

After booting back to the OS, uninstall the current touchpad driver, press Fn+F6 to disable/enable the Touchpad, you will see an On screen Display icon if the Touchpad is disabled or enabled

The touchpad of my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is not working with Windows 8.1 or the newly installed Windows 10. It is neither recognised in the Device Manager, nor the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is listed among the installed programs in the Control Panel. Moreover, when I try to install the latest verion of this driver obtained from the Lenovo website, I am warned that "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed.", and that I should remove it first before continuing. If I try to install this version anyway, the installation is apparently successful, but I still cannot use the touchpad (nor the driver seems to be installed anywhere). What should I do to solve this annoying issue? Many thanks for your attention.

Are there files in the "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP" folder? i had an issue where I couldn't uninstall the synaptics driver via settings and had to do it manually from an administrator command line. I used the following command: rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynISDLL.dll",standAloneUninstall Once you have it uninstalled does windows update try to install a driver on its own?

I am using Dell Inspiron 3543 with windows 10 Home. My Synaptics Driver is malfunctioning.

Symptoms and Problem
The touchpad is working fine. Sometimes, after using laptop for a while, I am unable to perform 2-finger scrolling as well as touchpad get somewhat sticky and not as smooth as it was. This problem troubles me much as using 2-finger scrolling feature is very useful.

The one main symptom is as soon as when the 2-finger scrolling stops, at the same time the Dell touchpad (synaptics driver) icon in the system tray also get freezes, means it doesn't respond to any 'touch' pressure.

Troubleshoots
I tired contacting Dell, they updated my Synaptics Driver but after sometime the problem again started. I also tired uninstalling Synaptics Driver. But none of the solution works permanently. Only one temp solution is a reboot (restart).

Also I upgraded to windows 8.1 to 10 but the problem is as same as it was.

Please help

I'm attempting to solve the issue of the touchpad delay after typing.  This is a well known issue, easily fixable in the Synaptics control panel by turning off Palm Check.  However, my Flex 3 1480 came with the Alps control panel, which doesn't offer ANY options for turning off touchpad delay.  How do I switch over to the Synaptics driver, instead of the Alps driver, so that I can use the full selection of options available to Synaptics users? NOTE:  I've seen various solutions suggested on the forums, none of which have worked.  Some of those include turning touchpad to "no delay" in the mouse settings, deleting a file called FMAPP.exe, downloading the latest audio drivers, among other things.  None of these solutions worked for me.  That's why I want to change to Synaptics, so that at least I can go into the Synaptics settings and turn off Palm Check to solve the issue.  Any ideas?

I've purchased e540 model few days ago with free dos,  so i've installed all the drivers and updates manually. and everything else seems to work fine, but whenever i turn on the computer,  I see the error message that says like synaptics touchpad 64 has been shut down. I've installed ultra nav all right, touchpad seems to work(excluding the touchpad gestures),  but when i go into the device manager, it shows HID Mouse.  and when i go into the mouse settings from the control panel, if i click the ultranav button,  it says not appropriate driver installed.  So i've erased and re-installed the ultranav driver from the lenovo website, but still the error message shows up everytime i reboot my laptop.  I've been searching for the similar problems, but no one else seems to have encountered the same problem as myself.  so basically what i'm asking is why the error message keep on showing? and since my ultranav or something doesn't work right i am disabling the touchpad by disabling the HID mouse from the device manager. it's really bothersome isn't e540's thouchpad synaptics??? pleeeaaaase help me solve the problem~!!!

The Synaptics site has released a new version of its driver for those laptops that have a Synaptics touchpad. Version 7.12.7.0 has been released to replace version 7.8.10.0, which was released in January 2004. The driver update for all versions of Windows can be downloaded from here.

Once the file has been downloaded, it will need to be unzipped to a folder. Once it has been unzipped, double-click the "Setup.exe" file to activate the install process. The update will overwrite and install over the current driver version. Reboot afterwards. You can then delete the original unzipped files.

Hoping I can get some help here, this has been frustrating me for a while now.

I have two input devices, my Y470's Synaptics trackpad and a Logitech mouse.

When using Firefox only with my mouse, pages scroll multiple lines at a time, like they should. If after starting Firefox I scroll with the trackpad, then switch back to my mouse, pages will scroll one line at a time. This persists until I close Firefox.

It's as if Firefox chooses the scrolling speed based on which input device it detects first.

The problem seems to go away when rolling back to Lenovo's/Synaptics' Windows XP touchpad driver (15.x). However, these older drivers are limited in functionality.

Can anyone offer some insight on this? Many thanks.

Hello forum. I want to disable the function called tab click on the touchpad. Tab click means that a click on the touchpad works like an click on the left mouse botton. The Synaptics driver should support an disable function. But this feature is not integrated in the driver i can download for the N200.  And install the driver i can download from the Synaptics themself will disable the working of the whole touchpad. Does anybody know where to get an driver for the touchpad which work on N200 an allow to disable the tab click function. TIA Andreas Riedel

Answer:Touchpad Synaptics driver disable tab click on N200

Just do a double-clic at icon of Synaptics near digital clock, then go to tab device setup (with the synaptics icon), do clic at values... clic at "touch" on left and uncheck "enable fast touch" then ok. Sorry if the options doesn't match due to translation of my spanish system.

I was messing around again with my wireless driver (see the never-ending "yoga 13 wifi issues" thread) and decided to look around for a newer touchpad driver too.  I found this one that also appears to work for the Yoga 13: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031456 Note:After you download and run the 0wto09w8.exe, the Setup.exe program will fail with the error message "This product is not manufactured by Quanta Computer".You must manually run dpinst.exe in C:\Drivers\Synaptics Touchpad Driver\Synaptic\WinWDF\x64.This driver version is "Synaptics Pointing Device v16.3.4.29Nov 12" vs. "Synaptics Pointing Device v16.2.21.3", the latest available on the Yoga 13 driver downloads page.  The release notes are dated Nov 29, 2012 vs. the Nov 6, 2012 for the older driver but list a lot of changes between the 16.3 and 16.2 versions, too many to list here (See C:\Drivers\Synaptics Touchpad Driver\Synaptic\Release.txt). I don't usually use my Yoga 13 in tablet mode, but I did a simple test and this new driver appears to still disable the touchpad in tablet mode.  I don't know of any other special touchpad behaviors for the Yoga -- Please comment if you notice anything inappropriate with this new driver. I didn't actually notice any different or better behavior with this driver.  But a newer driver version MUST be better... Right?

Again nothing changed, even after restarting. I am unable to see any settings regarding my touchpad, this is all i get in the control panel mouse category:

I downloaded the manual. The touchpad is explained on p17 of the manual. Since the notebook came with 8.1 and I can only find drivers for Windows 8, you may not get full usage out of the hardware because you are not running the correct version of Windows. The best drivers come from the hardware manufacturer and they are no providing any Win 7 drivers.

I have a L530. Because the latest UltraNav driver is such a pain in the derriere (when I wake up the computer from sleep or hibernation, the UltraNav settings in Mouse properties turn gray, and they reset themselves.  I turned off tap to click, but whenever the settings go gray, it undoes this), I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling the latest version on Lenovo's website (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028996).  That didn't make the graying issue go away, so I instead installed the latest Synaptics driver found here: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers However I ran into an issue when I couldn't see all the settings in Mouse properties (see here: http://i.imgur.com/7gVClYb.png).  There definitely are more settings than this (i.e. options to disable tap to click, among others).  How do I view all the settings?  Also if there are suggestions for drivers that allow me to access all the settings (and don't undo themselves), what are they? Thanks!

hi Naigen,

Thanks for Posting!

Were you able to check your touchpad settings before the upgrade if you have Synaptics or Elan touchpad?
As per the Support download site, G580 could have either Synaptics or Elan
Elan touchpad, as per support site does not have a driver yet for windows 8.1 and still runs with the Windows 8.1 generic driver

On a restart my Kaspersky data base came up bad. I was unable to reload the database so I ran Adaware and spybot back to back and removed 25- 30 items between the two. On the restart my pointer no longer worked. In the device manager I found the driver had the yellow caution symbol next to it. I managed to uninstall and re-install the driver but ended with the same result (this is a pain with only tab/arrow keys/Esc/Enter) Not sure how to proceed from here, HELP

Answer:Corrupt Synaptics PS/2 Port Pointing Device Driver

Your post is confusing. The title seems to indicate you need a synaptic device drive but your thread talks about a security program, Kaspersky.

You first need to let people know: brand and model of computer and also version of windows you are running.
It would also help if you mentioned exactly what Kaspersky program you are running.

Toshiba provides its own Synaptics touchpad drivers. When I initiate a Windows 7 update, it says there is a "Synaptics - Other hardware - Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad" update, released August 2013 (almost a year ago). I can't get any more detail because when I click on "More information", Firefox launches but nothing shows up.

Is it advisable to go ahead with this update?

Answer:Should I install Win7 driver "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPd"?

Under optional Windows updates sometimes is offered touchpad driver or WLAN driver.
Toshiba offers tested driver so I strongly recommend you to NOT install this driver.

Hello, ASRR here.

I've been having a problem with my Synaptics touchpad driver since yesterday. I am very used to using the "gestures" to work with my touchpad and the gestures haven't worked properly (in fact at all) for a while. The two-finger scrolling, the three-finger touch and others (actually all of the gestures) do not work anymore.

The cursor moves, and works fine but the gestures don't.

When I go to the Mouse option in the Control Panel, a window pops up stating that the PC is "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver." and asks me whether I want to uninstall it.

I have tried uninstalling it, then going on the support page for Toshiba and downloading a driver that was suitable for my model, operating system, etc.

When I set up the driver I downloaded and restart the PC, the same window pops up when I try and go to the Mouse options in the Control Panel and the gestures do not work.

One interesting thing I noticed however, is the fact that when I roll back the driver (in the Hardware properties- then settings) the gestures work FINE. However, as it always asks you to restart the computer in order for the Rolling back of the driver to take place, when I do restart it, it sets the Microsoft touchpad driver from 2006; which does not include the gestures I need.

I have tried multiple times to fix it but I can't. I went to the UEFI firmware set up and tried resetting it to default but with no success.

How to understand this? Have you tried to set your notebook to ?factory settings? again?
To be honest I don't understand what is wrong there. I also thought that new driver installation may help but obviously there is no much help.

I don't know if this is an option for you but you can set notebook to factory settings again and I hope everything will be work properly again. Before you do this try also to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option.

One more thing: it has nothing to do with your touchpad issue but I recommend you to create recovery media (recovery image back-up) using preinstalled recovery media creator.

Hi,

I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite A100.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite A100: Where to get a working Synaptics touchpad driver for Vista?

Hi

Usually the driver from the Toshiba page should be fully valid and should works.
Please note that there are different A100 series and if you download any drivers, be sure that you choose the right drivers for the right notebook series.

Did you check if the touchpad settings can be set and changed in the control panel??
As far as I know the touchpad properties can be set in the ?Mouse? option which can be found in the control panel!!!

In the ?Device settings? tab you should select the ?synaptics touchpad? and press ?settings?.
New window will pop up and you will find many options controlling the touchpad settings!!!

I'm having a really annoying scrolling issue with the touchpad on my Lenovo X250 (Windows 10). The sensitivity of scrolling is dramatically decreased following the use of trackpoint scrolling. Example, say I have a program like Chrome open to a web page. Using two finger scrolling on the touchpad it takes maybe 2.5-3 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. I then hold down the middle button above the touchpad and use the trackpoint to scroll. Now that that is over I go back and try the touchpad again. This time it takes me 10-12 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. Scroll rate is already turned up to max in the synaptics settings, nothing has changed. Scrolling behavior will now remain this way until I restart the computer. Can someone please provide a solution?

Answer:X250 scrolling sensitivity issues with synaptics touchpad driver

Additionally it seems that the trackpad will randomly become unresponsive at time as if it "sticks". I remaped caps lock to CTRL and I cannot use the trackpad while holding it down, the mouse freezes. All around not a great experience with this driver.

I am running the latest build of Windows 10 (build 10240).

Now that release date is coming driver updates are arriving for my laptop (Acer ES1-111M). One of which is for the Synaptics touchpad. When I apply this driver and restart my laptop the trackpad no longer works and the new driver has an error in Device Manager and cannot start.

This device cannot start (error code 10)

The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device.

If I try to update the driver it says the latest version is installed. I have to rollback the driver to the previous one supplied by Microsoft and the trackpad works again, However the entire process repeats when the Synaptics trackpad update is automatically installed again by Windows Update.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks.

Edit: I found a solution, scroll further down. I have been having problems with my new Split x2 similar to those already explained in the forums by other users. The symptoms are as follows:1. Unusual hanging or freezing of the mouse pointer on the screen and temperamental use of gestures (two finger scrolling, zooming, etc.)2. Slowing down of computer generally; acting sluggish and freezing during only light use and/or after screen being closed. The symptoms seems to change depending on the length of time the computer has been switched on, and are affected by disconnecting/reconnecting the screen from the dock.Being quite good with these things I decided to investigate and have uncovered the following:The root cause of both of these problems is the Synaptics Touchpad driver. While the newest version (17.0.10.9) available from the HP website seems to solve any unusual freezing of the pointer it has a significant memory leak. In other words, as you move the pointer around the touchpad uses up the computer's memory. This is normal, but the problem is that the driver for the touchpad does not give the memory back; it cannot be reallocated. This means after a couple of hours of using the computer (or having the screen closed) the memory reaches saturation point and the computer grinds to a halt. If you are having the same problem have a look for yourself: Open task manager and look at the performance tab. Under the Memory heading you will see a value for 'Non-paged pool'.... Read more

SOLVED!Through my own research I have found a solution. While the official newest driver listed under this model is 17.0.10.9 there is in fact a newer version which does not have this problem: version 17.0.10.16!I am still disappointed that HP didn't suggest this solution themselves, considering this driver was published back in November 2013! HP if you're reading this: please allocate this driver to this model in your support pages. Anyway, the solution is as follows:1. Open the Device Manager (Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager)2. Under 'Mice and other pointing devices' open 'Synaptics HID TouchPad'3. In the 'Driver' tab click on 'Uninstall'4. The pointer will disappear - reboot the computer5. Download the new driver from here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=uk&lc=en&softwareitem=ob-127354-1(if this link goes down try searching online for 'synaptics driver 17.0.10.16')6. Open and install the driver I hope this helps. HP, please send my consulation fee via PayPal(!)

My last thinkpad was a R60, and now I have an Edge with all these fancy touchpad features that I really like. My favourite is the ChiralMotion one-finger-scroll! Only it isn't working very well in all, so I am hoping for the latest Synaptics drivers v17. Will they be available soon? Here is what I would very happy about in the future: . no CPU load when touchpad is completely off (mine was up to 20% (!) when touching it while using the trackpoint). a working start area for the one-finger-scroll (I have no resizable rectangle in that grey field). deactivating half of the touchpad completely (or at least define a general start area). a smooth momentum for the two finger scroll (the one implemented is somewhat glitchy). regular tapping disabled when pointing is off (that's what I expected; or on/off irrespective of tapping areas). working pinch zoom and rotate despite pointing turned off. an option for the context menu like the key that is missing on the E330 (unlike right-clicking, as you have to move the cursor to the right place) Also I noticed a bug in the software: . the four-fingers-flip often resulted in a endless spinning of the Windows preview as well as the Alt-Tab replacement (sometimes even hard to end) So, any chance to get the new drivers? Hopefully they have some of these features/fixes on board. Unfortunately I couldn't install the ones from the Synaptics website probably due to OEM issues. Thanks to anybody who is listening!

On every P50 I've tried and across all Windows versions, the cursor does not move smoothly when making precision (i.e. slow or very slight) movements. Try slowly moving a finger across the trackpad, or gently rolling a finger back and forth--the cursor will skip about 40 or 50 pixels (!) before coming to rest. The issue is trivial to reproduce; in fact, there's no need to even specifically try to reproduce it, as it happens hundreds of times a day during normal use. It's bad enough dealing with it while trying to do mundane activities like browsing, but even worse is that it effectively makes using things like Photoshop outright impossible. Since there have been fixes for other mouse/trackpad/touchstick driver bugs, can we please get a fix for this as well?

Answer:P50 - Synaptics touchpad driver has unacceptable, jerky cursor movement

Have you tried increasing the sensitivity level setting? I maxed mine out which significantly improved the touchpad experience for me.

Hey,

I received a notification of an upgrade on the synaptics touch pad installed on my A200-1m4 notebook and after installing it the touchpad wouldn't respond well, so I rolled back the driver, but it wouldn't use the scroll option. I reinstalled the driver again, but still I couldn't use the scroll function.

On the icon in the taskbar, when I want to see the pressue graph accessory it gives me this msg *Sorry, this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver* I believe I am missing the second one, so can anyone let me know where I can find the installation file for it.

Thanks Very much in advance,

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad and Pointing Device Driver missing on Satellite A200?

Hi

This Satellite A200-1M4 belongs to the PSAE0E series and you have to choose this series number for a driver download.

On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the *Alps Electric Touch Pad driver*. (This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for mouse control) and
the *Synaptics Touch Pad driver* (This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for Touch Pad control).

Both must be installed!!!

If this doesn?t help then try to roll back the OS to the early time point (before you have updated the driver for the first time)

Bye

Just bought an Inspiron 5759 from Dell Canada.
Touchpad is very squirrelly - move around and it randomly perceives a click hence starts moving or invoking stuff.  Try to click left or right button (bottom left or right of touchpad) and the cursor moves so I can click on wrong thing easily.  Looked for Touchpad settings under Control Panel Mouse.  Nothing there specific to touchpad - just generic mouse settings.  Looked in Device Manager - Mouse and Pointing Devices - see HIID compliant mouse and PS2 compatible mouse.   Driver for either is from Microsoft dated 2006.
Ok - load newest driver from dell.com.  Claims it installs ok - wrong.  The Dev Mgr shows same Microsoft drivers.  Manually force driver to Synaptics - Dell TouchPad.  Looks like it succeeds.  Now, Dev Mgr shows two mouse devices: Dell Touchpad and PS2 Compatible mouse.  Try control panel - Mouse.  Now I see a Dell Touchpad tab but the only field - Change Dell Touchpad settings - does nothing.
Spent 6 hours trying to get help from Dell Support - worst experience with any support organisation (other than HP who managed to toast a notebook via remote control while trying to install a printer driver - never did work.)  Absolutely no improvement in situation.  Four times put on hold and line drops.  Considering strongly returning the notebook.

Answer:Inspiron and XPS laptops running Windows 10 cannot install Dell/Synaptics Touchpad driver

With Win 10, touchpad drivers are found in the Win 10 Settings, selected in the Start Menu. In addition, many newer laptops are using a Precision touchpad, a Microsoft inspired pad. The driver is incorporated in Windows itself, and a regular driver will not work. This is why you don't see anything in the "old" Windows Control Panel app or in the Device Manager.

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine.
