Acer Aspire 6930G Display Errors... I guess

Question: Acer Aspire 6930G Display Errors... I guess

Hi, (first post in any forum so far)

I got this notebook (Acer Aspire 6930G - the version with the dvd-drive) for around 7 years now and I am happy that I chose to buy it.
For about a year ago it started shutting down, when putting it under some workingload (games). I found out pretty quickly that the reason was due to heat. So I simply opened it (since the warranty already expired) and cleaned it up and the problem was solved.
A few weeks later however the problem started again. To my surprise however it seemed to shut down without any reason. The only connection I was able to detect was the fact that it only happens while playing games.
But I did not care about my laptop anymore, because I saved up enouth money to build myself a desktop.
Long story short. I need it again to play some games
The Laptops hardware is pretty much the same. I only added a SSD in the second HDD-slot and installed Windows 10 on it.
Now what I actually want to ask:
I am pretty sure, that this problem is caused by my nVidia Geforce 9600m GT.
These are the points that make me think of this:
- the PC does not really "shut down" more like freeze with a blackscreen on (and the only way to exit that state is to hold down the power-button :x)
- while doing so the sound (ingame music etc.) does not stop
- also all LED still work
- ONCE it was not just black but was showing a pretty glichty screen (a lot of red/green pixels with the frame it showed before still seeable)
- also before this "shut down" errors occured I also had image errors, while doing anything on the notebook (at that point I also thought that the problem was within the monitor)

And here I am looking around Ebay for a new card and also found some, but I became sceptical again...
Is it really due the the graphics card???
After giving it a little thought, I tried to force the error by using a GPU Benchmark. (Furmark to be exact)
So I put the GPU for 30 minutes under 100% load and watched the values... but without any result.
The temperature did not rise above 82°C (When it was overheating it went up to 120°C...).
And my connection between the games and the "shut downs" was my believe that the games put my graphics card under too much load and cause a crash or so.
I know that you can not really compare a benchmark to an actual ingame experience, but it made me worrying again and I do not want to waste money on a new card if it is not even the problem here.
I have the newest drivers installed and all necessary ones from Driverscape (http://www.driverscape.com/manufacturers/acer/laptops-desktops/aspire-6930g/120).

Is there anything that comes to your minds, that I can test as well, before buying a new card? Or do I already have a faulty reasoning from the start?
I appreciate all your help!

PS: I would provide any information that you need about my system if you need it for consideration.
PS2: I do not know if it helps but the error occures the most while playing league of legends. Most of the times while starting the round or when entering a teamfight (maybe an memory issue? :x)

Preferred Solution: Acer Aspire 6930G Display Errors... I guess

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi
Sometimes when i "wake" my computer from hibernation(I think thats what it is called in english) I get a bluescreen saying Driver_power_state_failure and I have to restart my computer. Is there a way to solve this?
I?m attaching the TSF_Vista_Support zip file which I have generated. It?s in Swedish but I hope you will understand.

Answer:Driver_Power_state_failure Acer Aspire 6930g

Your Xtreme N Gigabit Router doesn't have drivers installed (?I didn't even think that they needed drivers - and don't have one on mine?) Are you having any troubles with yours?

The BSOD's point to NETw5s32.sys - a component of your Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN adaptor. Please do the following:
- download the latest Win7 driver for your Intel wireless device from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx
- uninstall the current wireless drivers from your system using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- wait for another BSOD

Also, Please update or remove these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager. Please use the following instructions to locate the most current drivers:

Quote:

How To Find Updated Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- some driver links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers:

Hi !
Problems with bsod in the last 2-3 days.
Anyone can help?thank you

Answer:bsod acer aspire 6930g

Looks pretty straightforward: your network adapter. I suggest removing the drivers in Device Manager, and installing a fresh copy.

If you can find an updated version on the computer manufacturer's site, use it.

Hi
My son has an Acer Aspire 6930g running on xp.
Upto a couple of weeks ago he was happily running his blu rays using cyberlink 10 powerdvd when he announce that they no longer played. No disc found. Normal Dvds continue to run ok.
I have tried uninstalling the programme and reinstalling but that didnt seem to work.
Before i conclude that maybe the blu ray sensor has gone is there anything else i could try (- yes i have also tried cleaning the sensor and blowing away any possible dust) Do get suspicious that it all happens as the promotions for powerdvd13 flood in each time we open powerdvd lol.
Any suggestions welcome    ty for your time

Answer:a Acer aspire 6930g and was running on windows xp

I would presume that if it work before and all the disc are still scratch free, then the read layer function of the drive is not working anymore.

(sorry for the really long post but its kinda complicated)Okay to start with I bought the acer almost a year ago. Its still under guarantee but I would rather not have to take it in. So on friday I came home from School turned my Acer on (it was working perfectly the night before) and I got the blue screen of death. I tried everything, safe mode etc etc. I loaded up my windows 7 home premium CD and selected repair. It worked for perhaps a hour before telling me it failed to repair it. Next I decided to try and reinstall windows. i to the point where it asked for the Cd key. I typed it in just to be told it was invalid. Once I had done all that it no longer does the blue screen of death but it boots up the laptop you see the windows 7 logo then the screen went black and nothing could be seen APART from the cursor. This morning when I tried again now I just get a black screen then it restarts again. What is wrong? I can't figure it out at all!!!

Hi folks!

I had an error reading "Notification tool for Realtek Audio Chip has stopped working". I looked on Google for this error and Yahoo Answers came up with this: Acer. Notification tool for RealTek audio chip has stopped working. After nvidia driver update help? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers

Jeezers replies with "device manager > sound video, game controller > uninstall realtek > restart your comp and let windows reload the drivers"

I followed these instructions, but it appears to have killed my stereo mix function. Does anyone know how I could get it back please? I have hunted for it all through my system but just can't find it anymore! I also have all devices shown, hidden and unused ones alike.

Many thanks!

Hello,

I have changed my graphic card from ATI HD4650 DDR2 to NVIDIA FX 770M DDR3. The OS started to give video_tdr_failure so I decided to do a fresh install. Eve after fresh install i still get the error randomly, may it be when I start firefox, or close mediaplay classic etc. I run benchmark tests ,memory test but I could not find anything. My temps are good, when I game it is around 80C-degree. The thing is the driver I install is from laptopvideo2go with modified inf since the original drivers from nvidia can not detect the card. Used latest driver version. Changed the firmware of the to latest one which was no help at all for this case. Any help would be appriciated, I may return the card if it is not driver related and the card is actually at the end of its life.

My system is:
CPU: X9100 C0 Stepping @ 3.06GHz 1.125V
VGA: NVidia FX 770M 512MB DDR3
RAM: 2x2 DDR2 800MHz 5-5-5

Answer:Acer 6930G with FX770M video_tdr_failure

Please return the card. Having to use specially modded drivers to detect the card isn't a good solution.

Hi guys! My 6930g wont boot, its giving me a black screen saying

For Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCIE Ethernet Controller v1.0.0.12(2008/07/26)

check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

And sometimes "operating system not found" come's up under it.

I've pulled out the HD and put it back in and still the same. I've tried running the recovery disk I made but it doesn't tell me it's just going to restore the C: drive (it's just blank) and I don't want to lose the data on my other partition. I run system restore through F11 and it booted once but now wont let me run it again. I have done a search on here and can't find anything.

I'm running Vista.

Any help please??

Cheers guys!!!

Answer:acer 6930g wont boot

The PXE message just means that it does not see a cd in the tray and does not see an operating system on the HD so it is trying to boot from the last option a network (which you are not on).

You are able to boot to CD so the problem is with the HD.

Try rebooting and hitting F12 during the acer logo screen--do you get a boot Order Menu? If so see if the HD is listed and choose its number to try to boot. Do you get the no OS error?

Rather than cleaning our Aunt's laptop (full of junk) handed down to our son for BIG school, I did an alt+F10 Restore to Factory settings and started again. Windows Vista and Acer had to do its thing while it reset... I have connected to the router and I have wifi confirmed as connected... Windows updated and the homepage (Www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/home) even has the new Acer 'Switch' advertised and the dragon (some new game).... But the top isn't loaded right, it has 'errors on page' and other websites don't load at all.   TCP and DNS are ticked for 'automatic' too - spotted this on online forums so checked that. Any ideas how there's wifi but without a working Internet connection?! help much appreciated!

Answer:Aspire 6930G wifi enabled... but no internet?!

I'm guessing the Internet Explorer included with Vista is down revved enough that many web site won't work right with it. I did a from scratch install of Windows 7 (prior to sp1) on a customers laptop this weekend and found that the IE 8 included wouldn't work right on a lot of common sites. I upgraded it to IE 11 and all was right with the world again. [Well after several hundred updates that is.]

Hi - Need help with my Aspire 6930G - From working fine, no problems it will no longer boot at all.The machine powers on, HD light flashes for approx 15 sec's then nothing - black screen, have tried hooking it up to an external monitor to see it's related to the video output - same black screen. Have read on here that this is a common problem - solved by flashing the correct BIOS file. I have d/l the correct BIOS zip file from the site - this contains a Windows exe file and a DOS exe file - but no others - eg The .fd file which I've read in tutorials/YouTube needs to be present and renamed in order to flash. The other problems I can't quite get my head round are1) How to get the machine to boot from a flash drive - When I can't access the BIOS  to point it to the USB drive, instead of the drive with the OS on?2) Don't I need a flash program to actually install the new BIOS? Big Thanks for any helpful replies!

I just bought my Acer a couple of weeks ago and I have a question. Because I bought it after July I will receive a free copy of windows 7 when it releases. My question is, I want to do a clean install on windows 7 64 bit home premium. I have never loaded a new operating system before (I have only used the recovery disks) so I have a couple questions. My first question is when I install the clean install do I have to download and install the current drivers I am using on my computer? Video card, sound card, ect, or will windows automatically recognize my current hardware? If I do have to find them myself where can I find them? Will they be on the recovery disk Acer gave me? If that?s the case how can I only load the drivers and not windows vista? I am sure I can get them from Acers website but I am looking for the easiest way. Would ?windows update? find them for me?

Also my last question is there are a couple of applications that were previously loaded on the computer when I first started it up. The 2 main ones are Microsoft student office 2007 and Acers ?empower? program (Erecovery, Eaudio, ect.) I use both of these programs and I don?t want to lose them. Also because office came preinstalled I don?t have a physical disk. Any help would be appreated. Thank you for your time

Answer:Clean Install Of Windows 7 on Acer 6930G Questions

You can get all of the newest drivers from Acer's website. Acer Service & Support

It appears that the have the empower program available there as well. If you purchases MS Office Student they should have given you a disk or at least a product code for it. You should be able to contact Acer and get a physical copy if you cannot find it on their website.

Hi

I have some real problems with my ACER ASPIRE 1694 WLMI !?

I have replaced my internal hard drive to a "new" Hitachi ATA/IDE 80GB(model: HTS541080G9AT00) my old original was a Seagate Momentus Ultra-ATA 100GB (Model: ST9100823A).

When I use my ACER boot(system) CD+ ACER Recovery CD 1 to 3 the first part of the installation works. (I have the D2D recovery enabled in the bios during the boot+ recovery). Then the PC tries to load windows and the windows symbol on the black background is shown, directly after the ACER CD installation, my PC shuts down itself. If I restart my PC again windows is loaded and I could specify my time zone, license agreement, computer name etc for the first time after installation. But then this is completed PC shuts down again and I could not come any further. Sometimes the blue screen is shown with error, I think 0000x000 hard to see. I could not come any further, my PC turn off itself. When I wait say 1min after this and restart my PC again I'm logged in and my desktop is seen while ACER launch tool is running, e-recovery solution running. It sounds as though you were having the same issue with the old drive! It is possible that this is a memory issue and not a drive issue. I suggest that you try exchange the memory with a new stick and try again. As for getting recovery CD’s, you’ll have to contact the manufacturer for those.

Hello, My Acer Aspire V5 laptop has been experiencing many issues. First of all, the laptop would only be able to run while it was being powered by a cable.  I replaced the battery, this changed nothing. I tried removing and putting in the battery around a year after I gave up with the computer, the problem is still there, but now, it will keep reloading after the "acer explore beyond limits" screen appears. I would really like to fix this laptop as I loved it when I had it running a year ago. \ Thanks, Philip.

Thanx again and hope anybody can help me.

Answer:[SOLVED] Acer aspire 5530-5444 several errors after OS change

Hello Mr. Magus and welcome to TSF!

Firstly I would like to say have you installed any drivers for your laptop since the windows 7 install? I believe this is your problem or at least part of it.

Having a look around i see that your laptop does not have any Windows 7 drivers. I guess you never ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Prior to switching OS. as there are no drivers i can only suggest reverting back to Vista as your laptop only has drivers for Vista,XP.

Thanks,
Altie

Hi! I have an ACER ASPIRE ES1-512-C9VL laptop with Celeron N2940 proc. and i am using windows 7 32-bit. I cannot find a working display driver for it. Can you, please help me? I've tried the driver wich I found on this forum, but it does not work for my N2940... Thank you.

Answer:acer aspire es1-512 display driver

You could always use the Intel driver update utility if you would be more comfortable with that.  Or just let Windows update install the latest WHQL driver.  If you currently have an intel graphics driver installed, you may have to go to device manager to uninstall/delete it.  That should cause windows to look for latest certified driver in window update. Edit: removed driver link as it was not compatibile with windows 7 and OP's system....as per release notes.

When I first started this laptop, I was getting all kinds of malware and adware screens popping up. I noticed Norton Antivirus was installed but expired.

At the time, I was able to start IE (version 9) and download MBAM. I ran a full scan and it found about 2000 instances to quarantine and delete. I rebooted and ran it again and found about the same. After rebooting and running it again, it found 3 instances, with one being labeled, "Trojan. Vundo".

At this time, I was still able to run IE so I downloaded Superantispyware and ran a full scan with that. It found several instances of Adware, one Browser Hijacker and one Trojan.Agent/Gen-Genio.

After that, I found that when I started IE, I would get a message that "Internet Explorer cannot display the wepage"! At that time, I was connecting to the internet via WIFI broadcast from my DSL modem. I decided to connect directly so I hooked up a Ethernet cable instead and checked out everything to make sure I had a good internet connection. Once again, IE gave the same error message. I wanted to see if it was just IE that was having the issue so I started Internet Spades and it connected to the server and started a game. I also noticed that this computer has not been updated since 2013 so I picked out one update and watched as it completed the update.

So, it appears that other than the malware, adware and whatever that is... Read more

Answer:acer aspire m1620 no display

This sounds like possible video card failure, but lets continue:You said you have already disconnected and reconnected (our word for this: re-seating) the RAM and other hardware. Is the video card a detachable card? Have you attempted to reseat this as well?It might seem simple, but you might also check the connection on the back of the monitor itself. Often, the cable for the video or the power to the monitor might come loose. Do other monitors work on this computer? If you have an extra monitor, it would be well worth the effort to see if the problem might be specific to the monitor rather than the computer/graphics card. Let us know! Looking forward to hearing from you and assisting further if needed.

Hi,

I am unable to view anything on my laptop, Acer Aspire 5740g, not sure what exactly happened but the screen is currently a darkish shade of grey. I am not able to hear anything for the start up and connecting it to a external display, the display receives no input for the laptop. I have unplugged the charger and removed the battery and held the power button but the screen still stay grey. I have been having this problem for about a day now with no change, one other thing, I am unable to access the bios system.

Advice would be much appreciated

Answer:Acer Aspire Display Issues

The steps you've gone through are the usual remedies. Next option is to test the AC adapter. You can buy a testing device cheaply at any electronics store. If unsuccessful, unfortunately you might need a repair shop.

So sad to say that today I got my laptop and it just hasn't been the best. I got the https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR82G0W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . When I tried updating my NVIDIA Drivers they would just fail until I fixed that somehow. After this I was trying to see why my screen looked so dull and just not right. I saw that the laptop was using Intel on-board Graphics Card. I have a GTX 1050 Ti that isn't being used and I don't know why. I have tried everything and I am not sure what else to do. I have updated everything to the latest drivers and I have tried disabling the intel graphics card. Please help!

I own an Aspire 3682WXMi on bootup yesterday the display remained black. I hooked it up to an external monitor using the d sub port and instantly got a display. On closer inspection I found that I could see a very faint "Ghost image" on the display panel. Can anyone tell me if it's the LCD panel or the inverter, or maybe something else entirely ??

Answer:Acer Aspire display problem

Might just be a loose connection, but probably the inverter.

Do you have the expertise to disassemble and replace?

You should be able to source a reeplacement (Ebay?) for £15 - £25. Add something like £35 for fitting costs.

Hi to all,I have Acer Aspire One ZG8 and after few years correct working I start to expirience problem with display. Some flickering or completly black screen until changing angle of display and after few minutes again ... I find that problem must be flat cable so I decide to repair it by myself. I buy cable, replace it and ... it works! But ... First of all, there is no picture at all until Windows came up (no BIOS message, no Windows splash  screen ...). Then, picture is streched so I don't see Start button, task bar and all low part of Desktop. In Display properties, display is reported as "1200x768 screen", but as far as I remember, it was 1024x600!? I try all resolution and on most of them picture is blury almost useless but Start Button never come up. So, how I know where are my desktop icons and Start button? Easy. For all the time external monitor (17" LG 4:3) works well!!! There is BIOS message, I can enter setup, I saw Windows comming up .. Everything. I try to update BIOS (without results exept that I have to reinstal Windows!), I reinstal Windows (and there is no any picture until installing display drivers!), I try to changing resolution ... without result ...  So, is it problem with flat cable, VGA card, Screen, drivers ...? And, more, what is solution? Any idea or similar expirience? RegardsSasha

Answer:Acer Aspire One ZG8 - display problem

This is an odd issue that you are describing. My initial suspicion is it is a problem with the ribbon cable, but without seeing the system, I can't rule out a different hardware issue. I am not sure what would cause you to not get video prior to Windows loading. Maybe another user has experienced something similar and can provide other suggestions to try.

Hello, I recently bought a acer vx 15 laptop. It is a great device, but I have a problem with the screen. After a bit of research I found out, that it is something like "image retention". Basically, when I use it normally on the desktop, nothing seems unusual. But when something grey (it is only a small colorspace) is displayed, i can clearly see the taskbar through. Is this normal with IPS screens? Am I just searching for problems?

Hey guys,
I have been having this problem for a long time now. I have done my research and the solutions that other people had didn't really seem to work for me. I have tried reinstallling the display driver, formatting the computer, updating the driver, i even bought a new ATI display driver. If you guys can help me it will really be appreciated. Okay so this is what exactly happens. I would be using my computer normally then it would freeze up, the screen would go black. Sometimes it would go to a BSOD and i have to restart, sometimes it doesnt come back, and sometimes it does comeback. When it does comeback a little message pops up saying "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" It is really Starting to annoy me.

Answer:Display Driver Has Crashed- Acer Aspire

From what you've described, you've done all the testing/replacement that we would have done.
In that case it's most likely that there's a problem with your motherboard and how it handles graphics.
I'd suggest a new motherboard, but that'll set you back around $100 (US) and there's no guarantee that this is the problem. If you do purchase a new mobo, be sure that you can return it for your money back if it doesn't work.

Good luck!

Wondering if either, someone had any ideas, or if this has been encountered before but:Decided to connect my laptop to our TV via HDMI and there were no issues there, however after I change the laptop lid settings to "Do Nothing" when I shut the lid and the device is plugged in, it seems as though the laptop completely loses any and all connection to the Built-in Monitor (ala the laptop screen). I can no longer change the output settings between: Duplicate, Extend or Show only on display *.Going into the display settings seems to indicate that there device only registers the HDMI TV as a Graphical Output as there are no other options.Device Manager "before" closing the lid shows to Generic monitors, however after I close the lid and re-open, it just shows the one, which considering the TV is the only thing displaying, I'd assume is that.I have tried to flash the BIOS already and that didn't help, and I even went as far as Resetting the device (Keep Personal Files) and this did fox OT, however after I plugged the HDMI back in and closed the lid, it happened again (although this was what area realise that the issue only occurs when it was closed).I hadn't changed any of the settings after that refresh, so it was essentially a Clean-Boot that the issue occurred on.Any thoughts?

i have an acer aspire 5810t laptop and have a problem with the lcd monitor display. the laptop will only boot up when the monitor is at a 35 degree angle. i have to close it over a bit before pressing the power button. if it is fully open the monitor keeps flickering and wont boot up. is this a loose connection to the monitor? and how do i get to it? i hate opening laptops so any guide to get to the connection cables would be great.

thanks

Answer:acer aspire 5810t lcd display problem

Before doing anything REMOVE THE BATTERY
THE PROBLEM CAN BE CAUSED BY SEVERAL SMALL THINGS-
One or two are
loose connection at rear of screen itself
Frayed screen cable where lid is opened and shut so many times in its life
The screen itself is usually held in place by 4 screws, whih have a rubber grommit over them
Ideally, I would suggest that you get hold of a manual that gives you an exploded view of the parts- I will see if I can find one- otherwise I will direc you to a site with similar laptop help that I used a lot in my early days that does complete stripping of various laptops so you can see how it comes apart at the site.

Issue 1:

This has been an issue with my Acer Aspire One ever since installing the RTM build of Windows 7 Ultimate x86. I have the screen set to turn off after a set time of inactivity, perfectly normal, yet once I move the mouse of hit a key to bring the screen back up, it turns back on for a second then goes black again, then comes back on with the "Display Driver Stopped Responding and has Recovered" error.

This is complteley reproducible every time.

Of course I haven't used any odd drivers. I'm using the Intel GMA driver direct from Windows Update.

I have done 2 RTM installs on this machine with the same issue each time. Its not the end of the world but it is somewhat irritating.

Issue 2 (probably related):

Completely randomly after using my AAO for any amount of time, the screen will blink and Aero will turn off. I get a message saying the the theme has been changed to Windows Basic ( or something like that). WiFi will completely die as well. The WiFi chip disappears from Device Manager.

The only way to get Aero and WiFi back is to reboot.

To be honest, this seems like a faulty hardware problem although I'm open to suggestions.

Any ideas?

Answer:Acer Aspire One + Win 7 = minor display issues

Have you tried an Intel driver direct from Intel? Also, I suspect you have a bad unit, since I had a friend whose AAO would not stay on for over one minute. The problem was that the fan controller was just GONE and even a BIOS update did not fix it. She ended up getting her computer repaired at no cost (it was brand-new).

Hi all I recently bought an Acer Nitro VN7-591G laptop with 4K screen. The above picture is of the my laptop lcd screen displaying a uniform grey image.  There is a darker strip like area at  the left of the screen as you might be able to recognize in this poorly taken photograph. Is this issue known? What is causing this?To add to that, the screen in the picture is a screen which Acer gave me as a replacement for the original screen which came with the laptop. The original screen had the same issue, but with greater severity than this one. I am not sure if should get my screen replaced again, because if past is any indicator, the replacement screen will also have the same issue

For clarification this laptop has switchable graphics so it has both Intel and AMD display drivers. I recently tried to update the AMD driver (AMD Radeon HD 6650M) for my laptop due to not being able to access Catalyst Control Center. It didn't work, and I mistakenly forgot set a restore point.

I've uninstalled the drivers, ran Driver Sweeper, and ran CCleaner. I attempted to install the display driver for my model from the Acer website: VGA Driver AMD v8.901.4.0 (http://support.acer.com/us/en/produc...1&modelId=3476).

However, I do not receive the option to install a display driver in the Catalyst Install Manager (http://i.imgur.com/qL52a.jpg). I have been able to install it in the past. This time however, when I run the Catalyst Install Manager it doesn't have an option for me to install the display driver nor Catalyst Control Center.

Also, the AMD card is not able to start, but I suspect this is because there are no drivers installed for it. (http://i.imgur.com/qL52a.jpg)

Is there anything I can do short of doing a total restore to fix this?

Answer:Cannot install AMD display driver on Acer Aspire 7750G

Welcome to SevenForums,

Have you tried the native "Acer eRecovery Management" software (can be found in your programs list)?

This will restore back to default both VGA drivers.

I have a an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi notebook that the screen just went completely white on and then upon restarting it nothing was displayed, but the computer at least seems to turn on. I've tried plugging it into an LCD monitor but there still isn't anything displayed. I should note the laptop isn't mine. This is how I received it and what I was told. Is it possible for the on-board video to go bad? Or any ideas of things I could try to pin-point the problem?

Thanks

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100 Series Notebook --No Display

If you have tried an external monitor (which you said you have) and nothing displayed on boot whilst plugged into the external monitor, I would say that the built-in video is bad. I would advise your friend/client/relative to purchase a new laptop or see if you can find a cheap, used mobo on Ebay to replace it because the video cannot easily be replaced (soldered onto motherboard).

So I recently bought this very nice laptop, but the display is... I don't know, maybe it's broken or just very bad.I don't have high standards when it comes to displays, but I haven't seen this in more than 10 years. 1.) The viewing angle is about 0. If I sit right in front of it and adjust the display so I look totaly straight it's "ok", everything else, like 2° to any side it's completely off. Colors are wrong immediatly as well as brightness and contrast. Like totaly off. 2.) Even in that 0° radius it literally hurts my eyes. It's hard to describe. The display is on one hand extremly bright, even if I reduce brightness with the Fn-Key to 30% it's like looking into a flashlight. On the other hand it lacks contrast very much. On 30% brightness black is grey, I can see the physical light a lot brighter in the corners, white and bright grey colors blend so they become almost invisible. It looks like contrast is only ok when I set brightness to 100%, which is blinding inside but still too dark outside (cause of point 3) 3.) Mirroring like crazy - I don't need another mirror, I got this display. As if it wasn't hard enough to find a position to be able reading this display cause of 1.) and 2.), the extreme reflexion also takes it's toll. Again, this is not only "it's kinda mirrorish",  it's beyond anything I've ever seen. You cannot possibly use it outside. So I tried to adjust the display with the intel-hd tool, but I'm unable to improve the situation... Read more

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if I can get some help?

I've got a few issues with my laptop. Main one is that the laptop monitor didn't work so I had to connect through the VGA to my telly ......... but recently it's been temperamental when I start up, it shows the acer main screen, then the windows logo, then when the computer logs into windows the telly goes onto stand by. Now, I was restarting a few times in safe and vga modes and it comes on the telly ok but any adjustment on the properties and it again goes into stand by.

However ... I caught sight of the laptop in a different angle/light and noticed that the screen on the laptop actually does work, well kind of, it's really really dark and I can make out some menus and icons depending on which angle I move it to.

My questions are:

1. I've tried adjusting the brightness with the fn buttons and in the monitor part of the display settings but unfortunately I can't get it any lighter, is there somewhere else I can adjust brightness to bring the screen back to normal? It feels like I'm viewing it through dark sun glasses when I can see it or that the screen has a really dark tint to it

2. Would a fresh installation of xp revive my laptop or would it make no difference?

3. Obviously if there is a way to get the monitor on the laptop working again then this question isn't needed but does anyone know what I'm doing wrong when trying to hook the laptop to the telly via the vga ... Read more

Answer:Acer aspire 1691 display/monitor issue

If you can still make out the desktop, then it sounds like the backlight has failed. So a hardware replacement is in order.

As for the issue with the TV, it could simply be a resolution issue. Ensure you are using a resolution and refresh rate that the TV accepts. TV's with VGA input, often have very limited acceptable resolutions. Check the User Manual.

A better test, would be to simply connect the laptop to a true computer monitor and see what happens.

I am working on an old Acer Aspire 5610 laptop for a client, with a 1.66GHz Intel CPU and 3GB DDR2 RAM installed, and the display is always dimmed, in BIOS / CMOS Setup as well as in both Windows and in Linux.  RAM was recently upgraded from 512MB. New DDR2 RAM is from Crucial / Micron in Idaho, USA. I checked the BIOS / CMOS Setup settings but there does not seem to be any "brightness" settings there-in.  I've re-installed Windows XP 32-bit from scratch, into a bare / empty NTFS formatted  partition, and am about to hunt down and install drivers in hopes that one of them may resolve the problem in Windows, maybe, if I am lucky. But if so then I may still be stuck while running Linux, specifically, at the moment, openSUSE 12.3 32-bit. I may also try Linux Mint.  My client is a Linux Newbie so I want to give her dual-boot capability between Windows XP and Linux.  The laptop has a 120GB HDD so I shoe-horned in a 10GB NTFS Windows XP partition.  I am also using an external VGA display, 17" flat  screen, via the D-Sub-15 VGA port on the back panel and the VGA display there has full brightness. Just the built-in LCD display is constantly dimmed, even in BIOS / CMOS Setup. And it does not seem to matter whether the external VGA is plugged in or not. I thought of that and retried a cold-boot with NO external monitor attached. I also tried changing the RAM size allocated in the BIOS to the Video between 128MB and Max-something. No ch... Read more
