I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Answer:Yoga 3 battery won't charge - shows plugged in charging but shuts down when not plugged in

I had the same issue a few months ago. I had to send it in and after analysis found out there was a motherboard issue.I have been using the replaced one for a few months and am running into the same issue again, am having to send it back in

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. This is my first time posting in any forum, so i hope i didnt leave anything out.)

I am not sure if the battery is the problem, but it seems to be. When plugged in, the battery will not charge UNLESS the computer is shut down. Then it seems to charge. When turned back on, it might charge for a minute or two but then it's back to the message "plugged in, not charging." The battery life stays consistant when plugged in, it just won't charge any higher. At the moment it is stuck at 87% after dying on me this morning. I was working perfectly last night.  I have taken the battery out and turned the computer on with only the AC plugged in and it does work. My theory is it's the battery but I'm not sure.  The last thing I did was run a battery test and an AC adapter test through the UEFI menu. Both passed. Can someone please help? I am so lost on what I should do now!

So im very afraid my laptop will die and I wont be able to recover the information I have stored on it. On the charging icon, it appears to be charging, but when I hover the mouse over it, it says 18% available (plugged in,not charging) .. What can I do to fix this? Do I need to buy a new battery? If so, where can I purchase one? I have an HP Pavilion g7 series.

I have a HP G72-b60US Notebook PC that I have had since December of 2010, and it is at 7% and when I hover over the battery thing it says 'plugged in, not charging'.

I have heard this could be a defective battery, but I don't want to have to go buy a new battery and then find out that it still doesn't work.

What could be wrong with it?
What should I do?

Answer:My HP Laptop Says 'Plugged In, Not Charging'

I had this happen on a HP laptop before. I found a fix online that when I read it, I thought to myself there was no way that this would work, but I was wrong, and it did work.

Basically, here are the steps that I would do when my laptop had the same problem. Clean all contacts for the battery using a dry toothbrush. Make sure the power is off and disconnected when doing this. Once done, connect the battery to they laptop and pop it in and out really fast about 30 times. With the battery in, and the system plugged in, turn on the system. Check to see if it is still not charging. If still not charging, with the system on and plugged in, pop the battery in and out of the system really fast about 30 times again. At this point is where my system would all of a sudden show that the battery was charging again.

Again, I have no idea why this worked for me, and other people that found it on the same forum that I did. If you are not comfortable doing this, don't do it. The machine I did it on I barely ever used, and didn't care if something got messed up. If this is your main system and you have a lot of data on it that you need, I would suggest backing up any data before attempting this.

hi, i am writing this on my desktop as my laptop battery is discharged now so cannot power up.

i am running a toshiba satellite L300D-10Q with vista. it was my dad's & is probably about 4 years old now with original battery still installed. recently i noticed that when i had the power lead attached the power & battery led's would flash constantly & hovering the cursor over the battery icon, it showed as not charging.

i bought a new adaptor & still had the same problem.

so thinking it was the battery on the way out i bought a new one which was an alternative & cheaper just to prove if that was the problem & for about 15 mins the new one charged. then the original problem came back.

i have tried powering up without the battery installed & nothing happens.

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L655 Laptop, and it was working fine up until a week ago, when it suddenly displayed the message: 'PLUGGED IN NOT CHARGING'
After quite a bit of troubleshooting, I have tried many things including removing the battery and running directly on A/C power. Everything appeared normal from a mechanical point of view.
However, after also updating the driver software of all 3 components of the battery (found through the device manager), the only thing that works each time, but is very soon reversed, is actually uninstalling 'Microsoft ACPI-complaint control method battery.'
Firstly, I have no idea what this actually is...but i cant have to do this every day in order to get my laptop to charge. I cant always have a power supply when I need to use my laptop...can someone please help me as to what on earth has happened to my laptop, and what I can do to permanently fix it?
Thanks very much,
Anelia

I noticed my laptop was not charging when plugged in. It says 'plugged in, not charging'.The battery eventually died and I left it alone for a few hours dead. I plugged it in after that and it started charging again after that, so I charged it up all the way and I thought all was good, until I unplugged it and the battery began to discharge. After that it went back to the 'plugged in, not charging' status.  I did a battery diagnostic which said the battery is good, so it isn't the battery (plus this laptop is only 10 months old). I tried installing any updates/drivers HP said I needed. One of those was some BIOS updated which I did and after viola, it began charging again. While it was charging I unplugged and plugged the charger and it was good, so I charged it up until fully charged. I unplugged it at 100% and let it go down to 96% and tried to recharge it and again got the 'plugged in, not charging' status.  Any clue as to what is  causing this? It seems like its some kind of software issue.

I need a new battery for a laptop that is a little over three years old. The computer does not turn on at all when on battery but works fine when plugged in. My frustration is that I spent over 40 minutes on the phone with HP technical support and was rudely told that the computer, which just went off my extended warranty, was no longer supported and they would not sell me a new battery or even let me know which battery to puchase on Amazon. The computer is only three years old and outside the battery works fine so I would really prefer to to just get a new battery rather than having to purchase a whole new computer. Could someone please let me know the battery that I should purchase for an HP TouchPad Ultra book 4?

Hi when I have my laptop turned off and my charger is plugged on with the plug turned on, I have a problem.

My problem is when my computer boots up in the system tray (bottom right) my laptop icon says "plugged in, not charging"... I then have to take out my laptop charger wire and then replug it, this can be rather annoying.

Is there any way so when I load my laptop it automatically recognises to charge?

Looks like you need a new battery.

A quick google search shows your specs:

You could probably find a battery around for much cheaper on newegg though.

What can be the solution to this as I have also bought a new charger thinking this may help and it charges the laptop but, it has not made any difference. My laptop model number is dv6-6c77sa. I would highly appreciate a solution to this asap. I have read up on other solutions such as opening the device manager and unistalling the Microsoft ACPI, but is this really a safe method? will it mess my laptop up?

Today, I noticed my laptop kept shutting itself down every time it was accidentally unplugged. Then, I looked at the battery and it's at 6% battery life and says "Plugged in, not charging".  I shut down the computer and let it charge for a few hours while we went to dinner, it did not charge at all (in fact, it went down, it was 7% before I left the house).  Still automatically shuts off if I unplug.   I've tried the battery test but the computer won't even turn itself on since the battery is so low so that is out of the question.

Hi @mciaccia, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 and issues with the Battery. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery.  Here is a link to troubleshoot the battery on a Notebook. You should be able to complete these with the Notebook plugged into the AC adapter. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. If that does not help try the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. Recently i noticed that my battery was not charging and i was getting a message "plugged in not charging". So i performed a solution as given on youtube and it worked fine. But i thought the problem was solved but it continued to happen after several days. Now every time the problem occurs i have to run through the same solution. It is getting really annoying. Is there any fix to this?

I currently use this fix.
Uninstall the "microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" driver
Shut down laptop
Remove battery
Startup laptop and then insert the battery when laptop turns on

The other problem i noticed when this occurs my PC becomes really really slow. Only after performing the above procedure it works fine.

I have a lenovo z50-70 laptop which is hardly 3 months old and works really well apart from this problem

Run a battery test in the diagnostics....tap F2 as you power up and let us know the outcome, please. Symptoms point to a bad battery, which does happen too early sometimes but would be covered by waranty if applicable.

This has probably been done before but I thought I'd ask.And i've been all over google for answers and tried all sorts.  The problem still remains. The laptop is running 64 bit windows 7.  I've had it a year, and all of a sudden, this happens.  Same charger, runs off the mains, reinstalled Lenovo's energy management software and am now running a battery gauge reset - but the battery is still not charging and is showing 7%. Any clues?TIA

I have 2 HP9000's and I had intermittent issues with battery "battery plugged, charging" (without actually charging the battery) "battery plugged in, Not charging" sometimes a RED X on the battery Icon or sometimes "no battery" and if I removed the battery sometimes this would change but the battery still would not charge! both of these laptops showed similar issues, after reading about the cable issue that connects the motherboard to the top cover (where the volume, Q, DVD control etc.) I disconnected the "top cover" from the first laptop and now the battery issue if fixed, on the second laptop I disconnected the "top cover" but the battery issue remained? so after lifting the keyboard and removing the "flat cable that connects the "top cover to the mother board, it to is now working perfectly.  Also the % battery is also working.

Now I could start to check out if its the same issue with both laptops either the cable or the small PC board under the top cover, but as they are now old models and I didn't need the touch buttons to work I left the cable out of them both, now I have 2 charging/working  laptops   apart from the CD/DVD player not working on both?? but that's for another day.

my laptop is stuck at 99% plugged in,charging.

so here is the story..
i was watching a video on youtube after few minutes the laptop got shutdown immediately without any message, and the laptop was too hot and i think it had shut down because of overheating(this had never happened) .then i left it to cool down ,after some minutes i started it without plugging it to charge .so i checked that the laptop's fan was making noise and running in less speed .after sometime it gets less noisy and the speed was also decreased but when i started a fan dust removal all seemed good ,no noise or any speed decrease, but sometimes it did.and all the laptop's functions and performance it all seemed as it was before.when i plugged in my charger it was slowly charging but at 99% it's stuck.99% plugged in,charging.
my laptop- lenovo Z510
so is there any way to fix the fan noise and speed problem ?
i guess that the battery stuck in 99% might take time to fully charge.
and as always
thanks

So I just bought this laptop about a month ago (actually exactly a month ago), and a couple times recently I'd go to start GTA V on the laptop, and the PC would hibernate after a few minutes of gameplay.  The game runs fine up until that point, but I know it's going into hibernation.  Before playing GTA V, the battery indicates the regular percentage, but once the game starts going the system seems to forget the battery percentage.  I recently installed the latest BIOS update, which allows me to plug in my 1TB HDD into the CD slot in the computer, so maybe it's that? The only thing I can think causes it (after the battery goes to 0%), is that the CPU goes into turbo mode, and draws more power than the charger can give out, which causes the system to automatically go into hibernation mode. I'm not entirely sure, but at this point, I'm getting pretty ticked off.

Replace your charger with a larger power capability OR2. Remove the caddy and the hdd on it. Place it (hdd) in an external drive with its own power.

Hello Everyone, I have a "HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC" with Windows 8.1 and is almost two years old.  A few months ago I had my laptop on my lap and it randomly turned off, after turning it back on it did not charge above around 84%.  Every now and then I would plug it in to charge and it would say "plugged in, not charging" so I fixed the issue by turning it off, taking the battery out, turning it on, uninstalling  Microsoft ACPI-Control Compliant Method Battery, turning it off, putting the battery in, turning it back on, and the ACPI-CCMB would update and it charged back up to around 84%. As of about a week ago, that stopped working. I've tried updating the ACPI-CCMB, doing the above multiple times, and nothing works. I noticed the recommendation for the HP battery utility but 1) that didn't work in the past when it wouldn't fully charge and 2) the computer has a 0 percent charge and will not hold a charge, so in the step where it says to turn it on unplugged, my computer won't turn on. After trying to use the HP battery utility a few things happened. 1) I have to mash the escape button in order to access the menu, pressing it when the logo appears like it says does nothing. 2) When I tried to run the battery test, it said 2 minutes remaining and 1% complete before freezing the computer up and after pressing the power button it instantly turned off. I don't know if I need to get a new battery or if I just need to try something I haven't hea... Hi I have recently started having trouble with my laptop being plugged in but not charging most of the time. I receive an alert when I start up the laptop saying that the Ac Power Adapter Wattage cannot be determined, however the charger used to (and still on occasions) work fine, but slowly this has seemed to start happening more and more frequently over time. Usually however after I have the computer plugged in for a while it will start randomly charging, but sometimes this can happen in minutes sometimes it can take several hours. I have tried using the laptop without the battery and the same thing happens so I know it is not that. Is there a way I can find out what is causing the problem? I believe it is most likely wither the adapter or the power jack but I am not sure to to tell which one.
Laptop is a Dell Latitude E5410 if that is needed.

Have an old laptop asus u45jc-a1. I haven't used this laptop in a while since its i3-370m processor and thus slow for what i do. Well i recently powered up this laptop and then put the charger in it...

I get 0% available, plugged in, charging. Basically that means the moment i unplug the charger, the laptop immediately shuts down. Thus even if it has a few minutes, that would be okay. I had bought a replacement charger on ebay a while back for pretty cheap, it was under 20 dollars i recalled. It worked for a while but i never really used this laptop but got charger mainly because well the asus laptop still works and thus just get a replacement charger.

Does this mean my charger doesn't work? Or could it be possibly the battery?

I see a thread here a while back where someone fixed it by going to this and uninstalling it. Is this safe to do? It ask are you sure you want to delete this and well... that seems to be important.

"Plugged In, Not Charging"

Thanks.

Hi Everyone!I have a Gateway laptop that was purchased new this last October. It has Windows 7 Home premium on it. It has been working great, no problems at all, Windows 7 has been rock steady. But (knew that was coming, right?) after a few updates this week, all of a sudden I get The "power icon" telling me that the laptop is "Plugged in, not charging".If I unplug the adapter the icon gets a red "X" and shows 0% charge, but the laptop will run for hours until it actually is depleted. I did a Google search on this problem and find it is a very well known bug that started in Vista and is also showing up with Windows 7.If I go into device manager and uninstall the " Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and then let Windows 7 re-install it when I restart, that fixes the problem for about an hour or until the next time I reboot, then it happens all over again. I have checked my update history, but can't find an update that has anything to do with the charging system..It is NOT a hardware issue, I have a spare battery and adapter and it does the same with them. The battery is charging, but Windows 7 doesn't know it.Does anyone know if Microsoft has put out a fix for this? If so, I haven't been able to find one. Thanks in advance for any help!MuskyIf the voices inside my head paid rent, I'd be rich!

I have a Vista Laptop that is not charging at times. The power jack it pushed in and both my chargers spark when I move the plug around so it could charge. I don?t know if it?s my laptop or the Charger. Should I get the power jack fixed, get a new battery or a new charger? Please Help!!

Answer:Laptop charger plugged in but not charging

Esmmy, look in the hole on your laptop where the power adapter would plug in and you'll see the silver power pin. Using a push button pen, put it on the end of the power pin and see if you can move the pin at all. Any movement on that pin means it's broken and the DC Jack needs to be replaced. Most DC Jacks are soldered to the motherboard and need to be repaired by someone experienced in desoldering and soldering.

If the DC Jack is broken, the power adapter won't charge your battery since it's not making a solid connection inside. Moving it around too much while plugged in could short something, cause further damage or even a fire.. Best to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

As per the thread title, the battery is recognised as being present, but is not charging, and when the power is disconnected, will not run on battery power. I have come to the conclusion that it is most likely a hardware issue, see below.
Comptuer is the one in my 'System Specs', just on 2 years old, out of warranty period.
I have checked the battery connections and visually all is in order.
I have searched, and applied what appears to be a common fix for this, but did not change the situation;
>Disconnect AC
>Shutdown
>Remove battery
>Connect AC
>Startup
>In Device Manager, Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall >Shutdown
>Disconnect AC
>Insert battery
>Connect AC
>Startup
It runs normally using the power cord, so I am thinking that it is an issue with either the battery or something more sinister, within the computer/motherboard, as it was fine one moment, but not the next.

Prior to this the battery would last approx. 2 hours, and HW moniter showed it had around 30% wear, now shows 56% wear.

I have never had a battery suddenly die like this, but am thinking it is a distinct possiblity given the symptoms. Should I bite the bullet and order a new battery and hope that this is the fix? or is there likely a solution I have not come across?

Thanks in advance, Tim.

Answer:Laptop Battery - Plugged in, not charging.

Buying a new battery is an expensive way to test but it may be the only way unless you have a multi tester and can test your battery. Two hours seems like a very short time for a laptop to run on a full charge unless you are playing videos constantly.

I have had this issue with a MacBook Pro and it turned out to be a 4 pin connector under the keyboard that was faulty.

Answer:plugged in not charging.......Brand new laptop.......

BIOS updates are only done for very specific and known reasons (such as installing a different CPU). It is very rare to need to do so and they have been known to brick the motherboard. If it's brand new then don't mess with it. Return it under warranty before they blame you for whatever is wrong. I don't know If I'm posting to the right thread, but whatever. As you can tell by the subject, my laptop is plugged in to a wall outlet, but it isn't charging, nor is the battery depleting when I use it. This problem only appeared some days ago. Below is a list of everything I have tried doing to fix this problem, as well as other information.  The wall outlet works fine, I plugged my phone into it and it started charging. The computer doesn't recharge to a certain percentage, it just sustains the battery percentage it has while it's plugged in. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Micorsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter via the Device Manager did nothing, nor did installing new drivers for them. Resetting the BIOS didn't help. I checked to see if the battery was secure, so I removed it and made sure it was completely plugged in to the computer. It didn't help. Shutting down the computer, unplugging everything, and holding down the power button for 40 seconds didn't work. I can't and have never been able to turn on the computer without the battery, even if it's plugged in. The LED next to the charging port does blink three times when I try to turn on the computer without the battery while its plugged in, and it doesn't blink when it isn't plugged in, so it can't be a problem with the cord. I checked if the physical connection between the charging port and the rest of the computer was secure, and it is... Hi,

Over the last two months my laptop's ability to charge it's battery has degraded.
It went from being able to charge a battery fully (100%), to not being able to charge beyond 98%, then 66%, then 30%, and now finally it says "0% availability (plugged in, charging)", but it never increases in charge.

Thus the laptop works when plugged into the charger, but will not switch on when attached only to the battery.

I have restarted the computer multiple times - first shutting the machine down, then unplugging it, removing the battery, holding the start button down for one minute, then reattaching the battery, plugging the charger back in and restarting the machine.

I have installed updates for "Batteries" (ie. Microsoft AC Adapter, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and Microsoft Composite Battery) in Device Manager.
I have also uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI Complaint Control Method Battery and shutdown and restarted the laptop repeatedly.

Just now I called Toshiba support and updated BIOS from 1.50 to 1.70, then restarted the computer, but again the battery will not charge.

I bought a new battery which showed that it was fully charged when when I attached it to my laptop, but when the charge depleted to 0%, I got the same message as with the other battery: "0% availability (plugged in, charging)".

I am really stumped. How else can I attempt to increase the battery charging capability of my laptop?

Answer:My laptop is plugged in, but battery is not charging

In my opinion old battery was definitely defective.
Is your new battery original Toshiba battery or some third part product?

When you start notebook without battery and put it in place when Windows is loaded does the problem persists?

With most laptops, when you plug in the charger I pilot light comes on to show it is connected and powering the battery. DO you see this light? If not I would suspect the charger has failed. Also, the icon on the bottom right of your screen should change to show that you are now running on mains power rather than battery. If you get both the pilot light and that changed icon I would suspect a faulty battery.

Hi All, Brand new laptop: HP Notebook - 17-x116dxAll Windows Updates have been applied, devmgmt.msc shows all drivers as up to date and identified.Symptoms are the same across 2 batteries tested, all test were run on both with the same results. When the laptop is in use, it maintains the same battery level and indicates that it is plugged in, not charging. If the computer is in Sleep or is powered off, the battery will charge and does reach 100%.I've ran tests to confirm the machine will run perfectly fine with the battery removed over the stock AC power adapter.Tried the usual suggestions of:Running the HP Support diagnostics on the AC Adapter and Battery, all of which pass.Doing the whole shutdown start up ritual involving removing ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and AC Adapter, then reinstalling them.I have 2 batteries because the (at that point in time) outdated BIOS flagged the stock battery with a code, but every subsequent test said the battery passed. I had the battery RMA'd for a brand new one and have since run the same gamut of tests with the same result, just that this battery passes the diagnostics every time.I've about had it with this computer, lol. Answer:Dell laptop battery Plugged in not charging??

You have encountered a problem with the Advanced Configuration & Power Interface, which is a known bug within certain copies of Windows 7. There are several methods of fixing this problem. The first is to open devmgmt.msc from the Run box and to click "Microsoft ACPI-Complaint Control Method Battery". Right-click it and tell it to uninstall. Then, power the computer off. Wait for about a minute, then make sure you are working in an environment that does not conduct static electricity. Unplug the computer. Then, pull the battery out of the unit (if a notebook form factor). Turn the computer around, and hold the power button for 45 seconds. When finished, press it normally. Put the battery back in, and plug the computer in. It is recommended not to go further on some models. While some sources state uninstalling the controller and rebooting does it, I strongly recommend to let the computer charge up, and then power it up when the battery is full. This ensures that the problem will not reiterate for a while. The battery level should register as 100% and the issue should be resolved upon boot.Glad to help you. If the answer given was helpful to you, please give it a thumbs up. If you have more questions, please feel free to post back.

Hi Everyone! Really hope someone out there can give me some insight or a solution to the problem I'm having. I've just recently noticed that my laptop when plugged in says "plugged in not charging" and it is stuck at 5% meaning I can't take it anywhere and it has to be plugged into the mains to even turn on. I have tried all the walk throughs on Youtube about unistalling the battery components through device manager nothing works. I can't get the battery to take it out as it is built in I've attempted to unscrew the bottom but the casing wouldnt budge and I obviously dont want to break a brand new laptop!  When I run a battery diagnostic using the HP support it will start to charge for about 30 seconds then stop. I've tried running the battery down to empty and the re-charging it overnight when it's cool - nothing Any help or suggestions much appreciated however I have a feeling it will need to go back to the supplier or I will need to try a new ac adaper. Many thanks

Hi ABHAYHENDRE,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test with another adapter and battery and check.
Force the BIOS flash if required - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4
If the adapter is not detected, test another adapter. If the adapter fits in loose, replace the dc port - http://bit.ly/2hxR3OO - this is the part you need.
If nothing works, then I would suspect a motherboard fault.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
My personal suggestion is that, if the motherboard is being replaced, then you could invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.

Hi,I bought an HP Pavilion G6 notebook only a couple of months ago, and I have had this problem from the beginning. I have looked at some other forums and it seems like a lot of people have had the same problem with the laptop being plugged in, but not charging. This problem is really frustrating, as the laptop is plugged in to the power source, and into the laptop, but half the time it isn't even registered as being plugged in. The battery gets drained. Once or twice the battery has fully run out (whilst plugged in) and then been charged to 100% next time it was turned on(???!!!!).Please tell me if this is some kind of programming or software fault, or if it could be a hardware fault. I have run the battery checker several times and each time it has not found any problems with it. As the laptop sometimes recognises that it is in fact plugged in (but doesn't charge) I personally suspect that it is not a problem with the power adapter.PLEASE HELP ME!Thanks.(Sorry for the long message)

Answer:HP Pavilion G6 Notebook (laptop) plugged in, not charging.

Hi, You can help us help you by posting the following information. 1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see This HP web documentif you are not sure that you how to locate the model number and\or product number. 2.  The complete version and name of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ). Go into the Device Manager. (type device in the search programs and files box and click on device manager as seen in the following image) Expand the Batteries device. Right-click on the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select uninstall. Do the same thing with the Microsoft AC Adapter device.    After you have uninstalled both devices ,then you can right-click on any of the devices in the Device Manager and select  and click on scan for hardware changes.  When you have done that, the operating system will reinstall the drivers for both devices.

Hi,
As the title says, My ASUS G551JW laptop is not getting charged when I plug-in to the battery. I tried system restore which didn't work as I got an error (0x80070091). I have no idea what is wrong with my laptop and I hope it is just a simple fix.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:[URGENT] ASUS Laptop plugged in but not charging

How old is the ASUS? How long does it run with the AC adapter unplugged? What does the message say on the battery icon in the Notification Area? I have an ASUS X555L that showed no charging until I let the battery get down to 20% then plugged the AC back in and it has worked ever since.

I apologize if this thread is in the wrong section. If so, please move it.

My laptop is not able to charge while being plugged in. While someone was using the laptop, it just turned off due to lack of battery. The thing is, the laptop was plugged in. So now I'm stuck with a non recharging laptop that won't turn on.

If it helps, I have noticed several times (before the actual problem occurred) that when I check the battery status, it would sometime say that it's plugged in but not charging. And the laptop seemed to be hot most of the time.

So, what's the problem? The cord? The actual laptop? What exactly could have cause it and how to resolve the problem?

Answer:Laptop is plugged in but is not charging (wrong section?)

Sounds like the battery... how old is this laptop?

Hi, I went home from my apartment over the weekend with my HP Envy only to find out after a 3 hour long commute that I left my laptop's charger in my apartment. I found out after trying to boot it up, but failed. Because (at first) I thought it was drained, I searched for the charger but didn't find it. So, I left the laptop alone. I didn't do anything to it because how could I; it was drained. Fast forward, Monday I was back at my apartment. I plugged my laptop to its charger, the charger to the socket. I opened it like I normally would. But, I noticed that the battery wasn't charging. It said "0% plugged in, not charging". I tried searching online how to fix this but most solutions had a "remove the battery" step, which I couldn't (or at least I don't know how to) because my laptop's battery is built-in. How do I fix this? All was fine Friday last week March 11, 2016. Thanks.

For some reason, my backlight for my Inspiron 1720 laptop only works when my laptop is not plugged in and charging. I know this because the screen become noticeably dimmer when I plug in the charger and when I unplug the charger, the screen goes back to where I don't have to squint to read. I've googled this problem and couldn't find anything. Please help!

Answer:Backlight only works when laptop is NOT plugged in and charging

Have you checked the power settings to see if the screen brightness is turned down when it gets plugged in on AC power?

This is for 2 issues, which may be connected. I have an Alienware 15. Noticed recently that my system slows down noticeably when plugged in. When gaming, the game is really choppy when plugged in. When unplugged, game runs smoothly. I didn't buy an Alienware to have this problem. Also noticed that computer doesn't always charge when plugged in. I have to pull the cord to one side for it to charge. Not sure what that's all about, but it's annoying. Had the problem with computer not charging about a year ago and fixed it by buying a new AC adapter. Now having the same problem. AC adapters should last longer than 1 year and shouldn't break for no reason. I didn't buy an Alienware to have this problem.

Answer:Laptop slows down when plugged in and AC adapter (not charging)

Replace the DC jack inside the system - that will likely solve the problem.

Answer:Dell laptop battery Plugged in, not charging

What exactly are you trying to charge? Are you charging it with the charger that came with the device? It's possible that the charger you are using doesn't provide enough amps to properly charge the device. If you were using the charger that came with it, have you tried a different charger?Lastly, have you tried a different outlet?User Info Page Biography for full specs.

Hello all

Just like to add this is my first post so a big HELLO

Recently My HP530 decided to not hold a charge.

Firstly i thought hmm propabably A broken wire towards the end of the laptop charger connector (hp put charging port on the side) common problem for them to break.

So off iwent to Maplins to get me some connectors (which i had to order in)

Ok so re wired and re soldered my old charger plugged it in and everythign was running fine.

However one week into this i noticed the laptop was registering in windows 7 as **Plugged in, Charging** however the percentage seems to be dropping.

If i leave the laptop powered off and plugged in it charges to 100% over nite, then the next day the same thing.

Any ideas.

Could it be a faulty charge circuit.
ive checked my osoldering(joys of screw on connector boots) an everything seems to be fine.

Any help would be great

cheers guys

Answer:Laptop "plugged in, Charging) but Percentage dropping

Get another charger; it sounds like your re-wiring didn't touch the basic problem.

If you have a friend with the same model, borrow a charger to see if the charger is the problem before you purchase a new one.

I've recently had a few problems with my Dell Inspiron Laptop. It is plugged in to the AC adapter, but when I check the battery status I get a message saying '4% available (plugged in, not charging)'. This means that I cannot work on my laptop unless it is plugged in. The battery light on my laptop flickers a dim blue colour. I also don't want to buy a new battery for it to not work in my laptop either.

It also seems to get really hot when it is plugged in, and occasionally it will switch off unexpectedly. I'm guessing the reason the battery won't charge may be something to do with the motherboard and over-heating.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?
Probably my own fault for buying a Dell...Haha!

Guys, I have read a few older posts about the Sanyo batteries (which I have). Where else can I start to look to see wha tthe problem would be? A few points below: Cycle Count: 3Stuck @ 96% ("plugged in, not charging")Lenovo Power Manager is runningCondition: GoodManufacture date: 2011-07-19Right now I'm in the middle of a battery reset, not sure what good it will do. Any other services, processes, etc I should check to ensure all is working properly? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:X220 Battery "Plugged in, not charging", brand new laptop. . .?

By default, Power Manager starts charging when below 95%. If you plug it in with the battery between 96% and 99%, it won't charge. For long lasting batteries, set a lower charging threshold of around 85% max, and avoid discharging below 10%.

I believe my issue of windows 7 giving a warning of 'plugged in-not charging-consider replacing your battery' is quite common on some laptops with old chipsets, and I dont think there is a real solution if its no longer supported. The laptop battery is fine, as I know it works with xp and vista. I have the latest drivers installed.
After installation of 7, the battery on this old 2006 laptop did not state it was charging (charge light remained off). On screen, plugged in to the mains, it is stuck at '90%, not charging'. After accidentally putting the laptop into sleep mode after a full windows update however, it suddenly started charging back to 100%, and the power light did then switch on and charge back to 100%.
What I am wondering about is for other laptops that are current and fully compatible with 7, is if they constantly charge if plugged in to the mains or not-or only charge when down to a certain percentage?
After a normal reboot of this system today I am testing 7 on (runs pretty well), the power light did come on and it did charge to 100%, but after a restart much later on the power is now at 91%, and the system is not charging. Sleep mode does not make a difference, so that is why I am asking the question above. If it should always charge, I want to try and work out why it started to charge on my system, when it wasnt before. The screen at least always lights up brightly when I connect the power cable to the system, so should work as long as it remains plugged in.... Read more

Answer:old laptop and windows 7 - plugged in, not charging+warning message?

update-after leaving the system on without the mains cable, it thankfully seems to be charging again after a reconnection. I am hoping that I wont have to keep removing this cable to recharge, and that 7 will only charge the battery after a set amount of power loss. I thought vista always used to charge the battery when it was less than 100%, so unless they do work with the battery differently, perhaps the permanent warning message I now see in 7 has just made me unsure of how and when the battery used to work.

Hi I just bought a refurbished HP Envy M6 laptop from PCWorld, and for some reason when I plug in the charger, the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging' however it has been stuck on 12% for over 3 hours now! The battery level on the icon increases at first (i.e. it goes up and down, showing it is charging) for about a minute, and then the icon stops moving at all.

When I got the laptop the battery level was about 35% and I used it at first without charging it until it got to 12%, and now its been stuck ever since.

I would be extremely grateful if someone could shed some light on this issue for me.

I would take it back to PCWorld however I bought it from the ebay outlet, and the only option they have given is either a full refund or a partial refund, however I would prefer to keep this laptop and get this issue sorted out.

Thanks

Re-calibrate the battery first and run your laptop on it. If the problem remains, try the solutions below. Find a spare charger and try to charge your laptop with it.If your problem still persists, then check for a BIOS update. CoolGuy
