HP Envy 17 Broken Screw Fitting on Case Near Right Hinge

Question: HP Envy 17 Broken Screw Fitting on Case Near Right Hinge

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything (right hand side). It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken... When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge.I read other forums with this same issue (they are closed now). Can anyone please tell me how to fix the problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything. It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken and the pieces of plastic are loose inside the laptop. When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the factory refurbished laptop in January of this year. How can the laptop be repaired? One source told me that they would have to replace the entire cover ... IF they could find one.  Is this repair covered under warranty? I just found a topic for the same issue with the dv7 "dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!".  It appears that HP have some real widespread problems with the left hinge of their laptop casings!

It appears that this is a common hardware problem for over two years, based on  the posts.  This is my son's laptop for college, so we have now had to swap out our home Hp Pavilion laptop with him.  We purchased a two year HP warranty, and it just recently expired.  This is our family's seventh HP desktop or laptop.  How is HP dealing with this issue?

I have the exact same problem that I had been hearing when using the PC for a whie, maybe 6 months or more, but did not actually see the issue until I had to take the case apart to replace a fan that had failed (according to BSOD). What turned out to be the cause of the constant clattering and the fan failure, etc. was the pieces of the base that ,once upon a time, held the fitting that the hinge screws went into. The aggravating thing about this is that I had a Care Pack that had just expired on 8/15 which I feel sure would have covered at least the fan replacement if not the required parts for the hinge. If anything is being done about this issue, please let me know

Kevin, As a direct result of your input, I have since been contacted by Shaun with the Hewlett Packard AMS TCO Escalations Team and it appears that we may have come to an agreeable solution to resolve my broken hinge and destroyed fan issue. Although it is too soon to mark this as Resolved, I am really happy with the degree of ownership that Shaun has taken with my concerns. I do feel that this will come to a positive conclusion and will be sure that Kudos are made to you and Shaun and others as merited. New Parts, including new hinges and top and bottom cover, all received Saturday (overnight shipping included). Many Thanks to you and Shaun for your help.  Hi, I would like to understand how my problem will be dealt with as I am now working with a machine which is very physically fragile and I would like to get it fixed as quickly as possible so that no further damage is done to the machine. My machine is covered by warranty, but going through ww.hp.com/contacthp the site didn't agree.  So I put in my details and attached the invoice for the machine which says that I have a Care Pack which means that it still is in warranty.  Now I need to wait for 1 day until I get a response?  Very disappointingly, the page where I filled these details in did not even send me a "receipt" email, so I need to wait 1 day, hope that my warranty validation request was actually made, and hope for a response.  If I don't get a response, how then do I get back in touch (via what medium, I wonder?  it seems that I am not allowed to make a phone call?) So, hopefully this will be resolved by tomorrow.  At that point I can then type in again a description of the fault. Then what will happen?  I wait another day for someone to call me?  How many days will this take?  What can't I just phone someone?  Or even go on a "chat"?  I'm not allowed to do that as my warranty has expired (except that it hasn't actually expired - that's an HP mistake). The problem is that the case has broken at the location of the screws near the hinges on one side.  The scr... I have a HP m6-n010DX ENVY TouchSmart 15.6 Inch Touch Screen Laptop and I take great care of it.  However, as I was opening it the other day, the hinge on the left side pushed the bottom case and broke the screw hole.  Now everytime that I open it, it pushes the bottom case.  I beleive the hinge and the case are both defective and I have seen a lot of complaints on this.  This is no longer under warranty, and I was wonding if there was a product recall for this factory defect?

Left hinge pushes case open. When this first started I would hear a bizarre noise from the cooling fan when I would try to snap the case back together. The problem was bad enough that I stopped opening and closing my notebook computer to prevent further damage. Now the cooling fan appears to have failed altogether. I am out of warranty, but this seems to be a design or material problem as I have seen a number of similar posts on support forums. Please help. I'd love to use my computer as intended.

Wow , I have had the same problem , left hinge screw and besel came off and then got stuck between the screen and keyboard . Went to close the lap top and the screw was stuck in the hinge and next thing you know I have a cracked screen. Bought this laptop in December still under warranty , but HP says that this is not a know issue so they will not cover physical damage. Then I find this message board and wow , here we are all with a left hinge screw issue. Only problem this caused a broken screen. My case has been escalated still waiting for a call or email .  Any one have any advise? Geek Squad wants over 1000.00 to fix screen , that is more than I paid for the laptop new. Really disapointed in HP service , have a second HP Envy 17 in shop under warranty repair for a fan malfunction , they are fixing that one. This really may be my last HP. I own about 14 machines between my office and home. May be time to look for something else.

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

I too am having problems with my ENVY  dv7 17" notebook, with the case separating, except it's the RIGHT hinge. After reading many complaints in Forums here and elsewhere, I've gotten very discouraged that HP would do anything  to remedy my problem. Yet, I see here that a few people have achieved satisfaction by getting their computers fixed for no charge. My problem is no different than theirs, so there is no reason that I should be denied the same stand-up service. I've been a longtime HP customer, but this hinge problem has me and my computer reaching the breaking point. Must I spend hours on the phone seeking a solution to this problem? I think you have the ability and good sense to fix the problem ASAP.

The left hinge and case on my laptop are not working properly.  The screw on the case seems stripped.  The case pries open when the laptop is opened creating a gap over 1/4".  There is an existing forum with many reports of the same issue on different models of laptops.  Has this been recalled or can I simply purchase the bottom piece of the case and replace it on my own?  My machine is 2 yrs old and not under warranty.  I am concerned that the hinge might break or that the screen or other components may have issues if this is not fixed soon.  The machine has never been dropped or bumped.

I purchased an HP Envy 15T in August, 2014.   After 20 months, the hinge/outer case has developed a serious stress crack.  There has been no trauma to the computer that would have caused this.I am concerned that this seems to be a popular problem.  I realize I am out of warranty , but I hope HP will stand by its product and repair what look to me like a defect in the unit.  I am an employee and repeat customer of HP laptops (with great success and reliability).  I hope HP can resolve this for me.

I use HP exclusively since I swore I would never purchase another Dell product.  I have either purchased or other's have purchased at my recommendation at least 11 PC's and printers.  However, I am very disappointed with this machine.  The hinges are so tight they broke the case where they mount.  I fear that is I replace the broken part, it will quickly break due to the hindes.  I see this is not an isolated issue and hope that HP will see this is a design flaw and make this right.

I've had this laptop for several years now, and recently i noticed the screw that held the hinge in became broken or something and the hinge freely moves when I open and close the laptop.  It has gotten so bad that dead pixels have appeared in the left corner where the hinge was broken and the surrounding plastic of the screw broke apart. My warrenty is obviously out but I was wondering if there was anyway I could get this fixed since the build quality of these laptops is terrible. It's even gotten to the point of overheating if you were to watch 1080p movies or game.

Sadly, I've also joined the ranks of the HP broken hinge crowd. I purchased a refurbished HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1014nr. At that time I had litttle hesitation with the purchase due to what I thought was a great reputation for HP laptops. This laptop was handled with care and with pride. It was a great little machine, puchased to support my school classes. Of course a while after the 90 day warranty was up the first hinge popped loose. Handling the laptop thereafter with kids gloves unfortunately didnt prevent the remaining hinge from seperating as well. Some internet research quickly revealed that this is a widespread HP design defect and is very common in HP laptops. Shame on me for doing my due diligence prior to my purchase. The laptop now functions solely as a desktop with the screen propped up against the wall. It is far too fragile to consider even closing the screen and using it in the intended manner. I do think the machine is a great little laptop aside from this major design issue and with school now back in session I'm open to suggestions. Any recommendations on a cheap and effective repair?

I  just came across this topic. My HP Envy m6-1184ca, purchased November 7, 2012, also has a broken hinge. It broke in normal use a couple of months after the warranty expired. I was quoted $300 for the repair, roughly 50% of the purchase price. With no relief forthcoming I declined the repair and have been using it by propping the screen against several books. I look to HP to repair to computer at minimum or no cost to me.

My HP Envy 17 recently started popping the back left hinge cover. The hinge is broken off of the PLASTIC piece it screws in to and a bunch of small plastic pieces came out of the cover. This laptop has been extremely taken care of there's no reason for it to break other than a faulty design. Ofcourse this had to happen right after my warranty ran out.  I'm very dissapointed as this is an expensive laptop that shouldn't have these design flaws!

Less than a year after getting this computer, the right hinge broke. I fought to get it repaired by HP and had to pay to get it shipped somewhere and didn't have a computer for almost a month. Less than a year after that incident, I have the same incident on the left hinge. The bottom cover is popping off because of the hinge and something is rattling inside. My laptop is a necessity and it was expensive and I treat it with care. It was not dropped or banged. It rarely leaves my desk. There is no excuse for having the same problem twice. Except now I don't have time to send it out to get it fixed and I don't have the money. How can I fix this problem that is poor design not my fault?

I'm really glad I discovered the HP forum and have seen many other HP owners having problems with their hinge.  I purchased my HP Envy M6 around 3 years ago but within the first year a hinge broke so it was repaired under warranty.  Two years on and the hinge has now broken again with the case coming away from the body each time I open and close the screen.  Feels like it's going to snap off any day soon.  Hoping someone from HP will help me out with this as it appears to be a design flaw and with university fast approaching I really need my laptop.

My HP ENVY m6 Hinge is broken, laptop is less than 2years old. and its used 90% of the time on desk. Not often removed from Desk. used with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse....It has never been dropped!..The Right side hinge next to power plug broken loose.  each time the screen is opened top and bottom pieces comes apart exposing an opening and screen starts to flicker.  Best thing the HP Rep on phone suggested was  pay $220 + tax charge to send in laptop. I am trying to avoid negative comments about this on twitter and Instagram, but not very pleased with the $220 option for something I did not brake with normal use. To make it worse Rep tells me this is not an issue with this model. Do the people in HP know about this forum?? found 6+pages deep on this issue alone..... This appears to be a problem with the hinge poor design, metal screw against plastic wears out and hinge starts to fail. this is the only issue with this laptop. everything else works fine. .. Please forward this complaint to someone in management to do the right thing thanks!

Hi, i am having a problem with my HP envy laptop. The hinge has forced the bottom cover to separate leaving a gap between the back cover and the rest of the chassis. Can you please help resolve? My son is going back to school soon and I'm concerned this could fail at the most inopportune time. Thanks!

Question: Envy Hinge Broken

I have had my Envy for about four years now - obviously the warranty is gone. I bought it from Best Buy. It has worked perfectly normal. I have never had an issue, the keys dont stick, it looks brand new. I take very good care of it and have been pleased with the product. Today I closed it after I was finished with it and the hinge completely broke loose and the bottom plate of the computer cracked. How could this happen with no damage and no issues? I have tried to contact HP but can not get through to anyone but a computer. Clearly this is an issue with this product and was wondering who I contact at HP for help? Thank you!

Hi, the left hinge cracked out of nowhere, problem is I have no idea how to repair it without spending more money than my laptop is worth. I've also seen that this is a common problem among HP Envy m6 laptops. Has HP offered any kind of recall on this manufacturer defect? I bought my notebook at best buy 4 years ago so I am no longer under warranty. Please help me with this, this computer is my only one and I cannot afford for the problem to get worse.

Hinges on my HP Envy dv7 were very tight, even when newly purchased.  Over a year ago, the right hinge cracked and now the hinge is dislocated out of its housing.  When I open the hinge, the hinge is forcing the top fascia panel out, and there is separation at the corner.  It appears to me that this issue is a common problem that can be traced back to overly tight and weak hinges (a design deficiency), since normal usage should not result in this type of damage.  I would appreciate if the HP community is aware of any recall on this product or there is any recourse to have it repaired under workmanship warranty.

Otherwise being a fine laptop, this laptop was not built to last. THE HINGE WILL BREAK. During my tenure with this laptop, both hinges broke. Once, it happened under warranty. The second time, even though this issue happens to many people, it was out of warranty and HP would not cover the repairs. The estimated cost of the repairs were $250. My laptop broke at 8 months old and 2 years old. I have never dropped this laptop, never treated it with anything but the best care.  No laptop should break as often as this  one did.   I mentioned that I have seen many other customers with this problem on forums, reviews, etc. The representative said that they have a list of products normally recalled for said issues.  I will be posting this review everywhere.  Do not buy this laptop.  Two words. Planned. Obsolescence. Do not waste your money on a product that will break. Instead, just buy a Mac or something else.

Left hinge y the power button is broken and causing issues.  It actually sometimes prevents my laptop from starting.  I have to shut the lid.  press the bottom base cover and keyboard back together and then carefully open the lid and try and start it.  Lots of folks in this forum seem to be having the issue.  How can it be fixed?

My laptop has a broken hinge, otherwise it works great. It is out of warranty. I had contacted HP earlier in the year and they were gracious to offer to fix it free  of cost. However, I was unable to ship the machine right away due to personal reasons, and now the free repair offer has been retracted. Would appreciate any help. Best,Ravi

I'm having the problem with my left hinge.  The hinge started to crack out of nowhere and the lid screen did not close properly.  I've been trying to find a fix for this for months and the problem is I have no idea how to repair it without spending a LOT of money.  The monitor still works but in the beginning when the hinge started cracking I stopped closing the lid all together.  It seems as if hp hp should address this issue because it seems to be quite common as I came across this when I googled this problem. I am always very careful with my laptop as I rely on it for word processing.

Both hinges on my HP Envy m6 have broken. The computer is about 5 months out of warranty. I am very disappointed in the quality of this product. The hinges should never break down in such a short time.   Reading through the many posts on this hinge problem I think HP should have a recall on all the defective hinges and make things right.

Great news HP ROCKS, I received an email from JeffHelp. He arranged for someone from customer support to phone me about the broken hinges on my computer.  The very next day HP sent me a box to ship my computer to there service department. Two day later my computer was on it way back to me fully repaired free of charge. Now that's fantastic service and second to none. That's product support. Thanks HP.

I have an HP Envy M6 notebook (purchased in January 2013). I have the exact same problem that dozens of other people have had: the right hinge on my notebook has broken somehow. The casing threatens to separate from the screen if I don't hold the two together when I close the laptop. I do not believe this to have occurred due to any fault of mine, as several others have had the same issue. I am quite sure my warranty has expired, but I don't care about that. I think HP should do something to fix my computer, or to give me a different one, as I would not have bought this computer had I known how poorly built it was. Thank you for your help. Sincerely,Alex Kaczmarek

Question: Envy broken hinge

I have a broken hinge on the left side of  my notebook.  It has not been dropped or damaged - it appears to be a design flaw.  Of course it didn't break until it was out of warranty.  Other than this hinge problem it has been a great computer so I really don't want to replace it.  I would like to find out how to go about having it repaired.  Any help would be appreciated!

Hello. I have owned my HP ENVY m6 laptop for over 2 years now so obviously my warranty has expired. About 2 months ago or so, I noticed that the right hinge on my laptop was raised so I inspected it and then pushed it down. This has continued every time I close the laptop with me pushing down the hinge. The plastic covering for the monitor also bends every time I close the laptop. These issues seemed to be fairly minor at the time. Tonight, on 9/12/15, when i went to close the laptop, the hinge completely gave way, broke off, and collapsed. The left side seems to still be intact. I have noticed that on the inside of the bottom right corner of the monitor, a metal piece has been separated from the other side of the monitor. I suspect that this metal piece is what has more or less held the hinge in place for the 2+ months that it has been broken. In other words, when the metal piece gave way, so too did the already broken hinge. The HP ENVY m6 laptop still seems to be in working order other than the broken hinge. Though this means that I cannot bring it anywhere at present. The ability to transport my laptop is very important to me as I am currently in college and I take much of my notes on my laptop I was wondering if there is anyway to have technical support on my laptop? I have noticed that broken hinges are a very common issue with the HP ENVY m6 (possibly a manufacturing error) and would like to see it resolved as soon as possible. Thank you

I know it's a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping someone can offer me some help. I've had my HP Envy for about 2 years and I've always been very careful with it, but last year one the hinges started to pop out. I was still under warranty and was able to have it fixed for free and everything was great. Now, just over a year later, the same hinge has broken again. I don't have the money to fix it and it's at the point where I can't open the laptop because the hinge caused the bottom of the computer to separate. This seems to be a really common problem with the HP Envy and it seems like HP should have some way to fix this (for less than the $350 I was quoted at my local store). Anybody?

First off, I want to say, I LOVE my HP Envy - it is the perfect laptop for me.  Sleek and light, and has all the processing power that I need.  It's been my best laptop purchase, I've been so happy with it. THAT said - the right hinge just broke.  I'm always very careful with it, but the hinges have always been tight, and have squealed whenever opened or closed.  It finally gave way when opening it.  The hinge broke away from the frame.  The problem and damage seems to be completely isolated to the hinge itself - everything else continues to function properly. I want to keep this laptop, so I took it in to be repaired.   The repair was more than I paid for the laptop.  I was gutted. So, I went online to see if I could tackle the repair myself.  I saw that MANY other HP Envy users were having the same problem from this Manufacturing Defect, and that HP was repairing the hinge. Can you please point me in the right direction to have HP perform this repair?  Even if I must pay a repair fee, since it is out of warranty.  (I would be thrilled if HP covered this repair, though - being a manufacturing defect that so many other Envy users have been affected by)Many thanks.

Answer:HP Envy Broken Hinge

Hi,HP Envy M6 series laptops have this design flaw and I have repaired an M6 laptop myself. The cost of the repair is basically only the cost of the base enclosure and around 30 in my case but that was caused because the item was bought in the US and shipped to the UK. You have to tell us the product model number such as B4D17EA. Then we can search the right part number and the part itself on ebay or other online retailers. I remember that people with Envy M6 laptops were contacted by HP representatives but have no idea what the outcome was.

Dear HP!I`m contacting you regarding my girlfriends HP Laptop, the model number is 1178sa. She bought the laptop few years ago and the right hinge has broken causing the screen to begin to split. I saw that so many other people was contacting you guys with the same issue. Actually we cannot close the lid now, because the LCD Screen and the plastic frame is separated, the plastic is broken atually and basically it seems the whole right hinge is braking out of the top panel.  I have heard good things about the HP customer service, so I give it a try. Please help me if it is possible. Any help will be appriciated as this notebook was nearly 700 when she was purcashed it, and like nearly all the ladies, she`s taking care of her things on an extreme level, so even if I know it`s out of the warranty time, I`m sure it`s not her fault and it seems a common problem with the HP notebooks. Thank you very much in advance!Have a great day!Istvan

My hinge is broken on my computer.  Has been for over 6 months.  I've contacted y'all once before about this but here I am again.  I am not going to pay over 200 dollars for this to be fixed because it was made crappy.  It is an all to common problem from what I am seeing.  This computer has not been dropped and goes every where in a padded case.  I am a graduate student and the last time yall offered to fix it I couldn't afford to be without it for two weeks or afford the 200 dollars to fix a problem that is hp's problem initially.  It is way past my warranty now but when the problem began it was just a few months past my warranty.  I am sick of not getting any answers as well as not being able to get in touch with anyone from hp who can talk to me about this problem.  I've gone as long as I could with a broken computer and i'm just waiting on the day that the screen just comes completely off of the keyboard.   I've taken to a computer repair guy that basically told me it's because some plastic screws on the inside of my computer are stripped and that is why the hinge isn't working properly, why my screen is floppy and why I can't open or close my computer normally.  Before I even got to the place, he guessed that my computer was an hp because of this same problem he has seen with tons of hp's.  How do you expect loyal customers to pay for this when it was obviously not made correctly or with good parts that wo... This seems to be a common problem.  I purchased the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 in April 2015 to replace the virtually identical computer which had the same hinge problem.  On the first laptop, the HP quote to fix it was exorbitant so I found someone else.  The repair did not last. So I replaced the computer and now have the same problem with the second one.  The left hand hinge is breaking away and gradually getting worse.  I have read a few posts on line giving descriptions of repair efforts.  Tried to repair the first laptop but could not get at the hinge to repair it. Any suggestions

Hello, my HP Envy m6 left hinge recently broke. I have not dropped it, and always keep it in a temperature controlled environment. I am very worried because I have not done anything to cause this and every time I open the device it creaks. I have not been using it very much until a solution is found to fix it. I am worried it has something to do with the battery recall of overheating batteries even though it says mine is not eligible, I just wonder if it hasn't been identified yet. Thanks.

My HP Envy's hinge is detaching as the casing is cracking open. I have never dropped it or damaged it any manner. Everything else works perfectly. I have barely had my computer over a year now which is not a long time and this seems to be a very popular problem. I will have to pay to get this fixed due to a manufacturing problem and being a college student that is definitely not in my budget especially with the precaution I take with this laptop. I love this product and so far I have had a great HP experience. I would hope HP is going to back their product!

I have a broken right hinge, and/or the case is broken on that side and it is interfering with closing the screen and how the microphone gets activated and the way the DVD drive works. How do I get it repaired?

The hinges on the screen are broken and the case is separating.  This is NOT from abuse, dropping, misuse, etc.  The laptop is generally used on a desk by adults.  Where would I look to get this repaired?

My Envy 17's  left hinge has come adrift and is causing the case to separate. There are no loose plastic pieces in the case or fan issues yet.We are leaving the top open; it is no longer a portable laptop. Through searching I have learned this is a common and long time issue starting with prior laptops models. This premuim and expensive latop is just over 2 years old and has been kindly treated; never dropped.I have been a long time HP customer. Today I spent over 30 minutes & 2 phone calls with HP Techical and Customer service ultimately being 'dropped' both times during transfers. I'm hoping this forum's moderators will do better. Yes, the laptop is no longer under warranty but this is a long term well known design weakness.I expect to hear from HP with a  no-cost to me repair solution.Per HP's motto they are "Here to keep you happy; And your PC, too" I will provide updates to this issue.

My HP Envy also, has the left hinge coming apart.  Each time I open and close my screen, the hinge and notebook base separate.  I would like to have this fixed.  This started about 10 months after I purchased this notebook.  I thought this was just an isolated case, but sounds like a quality defect.  I was just going to go with another brand of notebook in the future due to this issue, but if HP can resolve will continue to remain a customer.

Hello. I have a Hp Envy m6-1105dx laptop that I've had for around 3 years now. I've always taken care of it and never drop it but a few months ago I noticed a crack on the bottom of the left hinge that has slowly gotten worse. Now the screen is barely holding on the left hinge and my screen is starting to glitch out. My warrenty is well over but I've looked it up and saw that many other people have had this same issue. Classes are going to start next week so I'm not sure what I can do, as getting it repaired is too expensive for me right now. Like I said it just started falling apart out of nowhere and the plastic has cracked and fallen apart. What should I do?

Design flaw on HP envy, the hinges break on all sizes, both 15 and 17 inch,Any one up for a class action suit?  Design flaw means the product does not do what it was designed to do. This does NOT require warranty.

My left hinge is broken I am guessing by reading other complaints? I have had this laptop for a little over a year and have never mishandled it in and kind of way. Now it will not turn on because it is saying problems with the fan because everytime I open it the bottom pops off. I tried to email HP but they would not reply because my warranty was up August 15th. I was wondering how much it would cost for HP to fix it? Or the Geek Squad with Best Buy? I need it fixed as soon as possible! It is my school laptop.

Hello, I want to start off by saying that I love my hp envy laptop (2015). This is the second hp laptop I've owned. However I am also have the hinge on my Envy suddenly cracking open and I've had it less than a year and a half. I have never dropped it or caused any sort of damage to it. Everything was working fine except for this hinge that just bulged out. I have noticed that this seems to be a popular problem, yet no recall has been made to fix it. Sadly, now that my Envy is more than a year old I have to pay for a repair ($200 just to fix a hinge) that seems to be a very common issue. I would LOVE to see that HP is willing to fix this common Issue for this specific product and making things right with their customers . I'ma college student who needs a working laptop but can't afford paying for a repair on a pretty new laptop. The reason I chose an HP laptop this 2nd time around is because I believe they have much better service and are more reliable than other brands. I am always recommending them to my other college friends and even family members. So I hope my assumption was not wrong and they fix this problem for their loyal customer. Thanks for your consideration, I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi For about a month now the right hinge on my laptop was broken.I tried to fix it myself but nothing worked. When I took it to a local repair shop to see if they could fix it, they told me they didn't know how to... Shortly after, the bottom case near the fan also cracked and now my screen is not stable at all. Unfortunately my warranty expired early 2015 but this seems to be a very common problem so I wonder if HP could check what my possibilities are...I have never dropped/slammed my laptop, the hinge just broke off out of nowhere... I have owned alot of brands, Packard Bell, Acer, Asus... Nothing compared to this HP notebook and I would hate to throw it away just because of this hinge problem... Especially because this laptop cost me ? 999 and everything else on it works perfectly fine, even the battery after 4 years of using it daily still holds up for about 2-3 hours!! Please help...Thanks in advance!!! Regards, KronosBE

Please help - the hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1105dx split apart last week. I can't open or close the cover now, as it causes the top section to separate and pieces of plastic around the hinge break off. I've looked online all week and see many others have had this happen, but I can't find any instructions from HP on what we're supposed to do. I cannot lose my computer. I use assistive technology, because I can't write or type without pain. I have to get this fixed before the laptop breaks, or I won't be able to my work or anything else.
