Question: Laptop Problems; Samsung Ultrabook Series 5

I think it's been happening for a month now. My laptop screen 'glitches' - the images distorting and sometimes green text appearing - before righting itself and crashing. The only way I can get the laptop to function again is to turn it off via the power button or take the battery out and put it back it again. It has also become slow starting up - taking at least five minutes before you can log in and then a further five before you can actually do anything. The cursor sometimes gets stuck in the center of the screen - I can access things using the tab screen but the cursor won't move, whether I use the laptop touchpad or my USB mouse. The fan has also been sporadically speeding up before calming down again - even though I've been doing the same thing for the past god knows when.

I've done a boot-up scan using avast, had a look through all of my files and gotten rid of any old files that I don't need on there, in an attempt to create some space but I've got about 600-700 gb free so I can't see why that should be a problem. Nothing happens before the glitches/crashes so I don't think I'm causing it by moving it and so on.

About a month ago, the charger port was fixed at a laptop repair shop, and then the laptop itself was sent off to SAMSUNG to have the motherboard replaced because I mistakenly wiped the bios (since one driver update shut the laptop off in the middle of the bios update) so I don't know if something is loose and so on. I'm planning on selling it in a month or two so it's not that much of a problem, but of course I don't want to sell it to someone if its being a pain in the backside. I also switched from integrated graphics to a nvidia geforce graphics card (that is in the laptop when I bought it) so that might be why?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop Problems; Samsung Ultrabook Series 5

This sort of problem is tough to troubleshoot over the internet. It could be quite a few things that could cause the symptoms that you're experiencing. With that said, I'd probably start with updating the discrete GPU drivers. Since you did switch from integrated to discrete, this could be the main cause for the graphic glitches which is probably crashing the system.

Moving forward, I think you should download something like CPU-Z to monitor the CPU load and temperatures during the crashes. It could be that your CPU is overheating and could use some attention.

First of all hello to everyone here, I've been browsing these forums for an answer to my issue but couldn't find anything in the FAQ about my specific problem. I followed the directions in the FAQ as well as those on the Intel site but I am still having issues. I ran the Intel system compatibility and driver checker, and it says that I have the proper Graphics Diver for my Intel3000 (, the proper WiFi driver for my Centrino Ultimate N 6300 (, and the new WiDi driver (3.5.40). I have a Samsung Series 9 (original model) and a Belkin Screencast. When I open the WiDi software and turn on my Screencast, it shows up immediately in the connection menu on my laptop. When I connect, it goes through the security setup, then takes me back to the main WiDi screen. After this, I try to connect again, and it gives me a message: something to the effect of "while connecting to your device, your internet connection will be lost. It will be restored after the connection is made". I never had this step involved in the process with windows 7. When I click continue, it shows that it is connecting on the laptop, and the TV (connected by HDMI to the screencast) confirms that the two are connected, but the WiDi application still shows "connecting", and never fully connects. I have tried powering both off and restarting the process, I have tried to have the laptop forget the screencast and start from scratch, and nothing is working. I look forward... Read more

last week I decided to upgrade my Ultrabook with a SSD. I bought a Samsung SSD 840 series, 120 gb. I thought this would be an easy install, but after assembling the disk, I just could not get it to work. When I launch the computer, it instantly restarts, and this just keeps going continuously until I remove the battery. I can enter the BIOS, but thats it. I have tried with a Kingston SSD and a regular HDD, and they work. I have tried the Samsung SSD on a different computer, and the SSD is not defect.
Anyone have a solution? Would really appreciate some help.

Edit: The SSD shows up in the BIOS.

Hello! This is my first thread so please be patient with me, hahaha! So, my laptop has been freezing on and off and ever since that occasion, I have had it factory reset by my own. Ever since I owned this laptop, it was quite fast, but suddenly after 3 years of using, it escalated to freezing often. I have had Malwarebyte and Bitdefender Total Security 2016 installed(of which both are premium accounts). I downloaded both applications from a third party website. Currently running a disk check via command prompt (chkdsk /r) and will see how it goes. I will update if the need arises.

I have a Samsung Ultrabook Series 5 NP540U3C, a client of mine mistakenly installed windows 10 technical preview directly on the primary hard drive.
Upon further reading, realized that it is not possible to downgrade back to windows 8 once tech preview is installed... some files go missing.
It basically crashed the hdd.

I was able to recover the hdd and it seems to be doing well... Although at the time, I installed a new 500 gb hdd.
As I was doing my installation process, I found that a lot of bios setting have been deactivated as well as it not letting me boot from sata.
A bit more info about this specific series of ultrabooks... they include an issd card hardwired right unto the motherboard. And cause booting issues if not installed with the proper drivers.

Basically the computer crashed, and the boot is looping to the issd.

I have tried everything that I can think of, I did manage to install windows 7 unto the issd (24gb) and failed to mirror the image unto the sata drive due to 1/0 issues that the computer keeps telling me.
The sata does work... I`ve installed ubunti without a problem.
Windows 7 sees it as, 128 gb unallocated.
I know it is the issd causing boot problems, but I am exhausted at this point. I have dedicated about 40 hours between work and investigating.

It would be of tremendous help if anyone can help me with this issue.
This is basically my last step before just forgetting about it... But there is always something that does the tric... Read more

I am having difficulty installing Win 8 RP in dual boot with Win 7 on my Samsung Series 5 ultrabook. In the past, I haven't had any complications with installs on other systems. I followed the instructions to the T using a USB drive. The laptop boots to the Windows 8 installation screen, goes through the usual processes and then reboots. However, instead of rebooting and continuing the install, it returns to the beginning of the installation process. Other times, it just boots right back into Windows 7.
I don't know if the hybrid HDD has anything to do with it. It's supposed to help with a faster boot process through a cache on the SSD. Does it overlook the Windows 8 installation when it reboots?

Answer:Dual boot on Samsung Series 5 ultrabook with SSD/HDD hybrid HDD

Hello Scurcio, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It sounds like you set your BIOS to always boot from the USB first in the priority order. Normally you would need to have the HDD set to be the first device in the BIOS boot priority order, and only select to enter the boot menu at startup to select to boot from the USB temporarily for just that one time. This way it'll boot from the USB, then the HDD when the computer restarts.

Since you already started the installation, set your BIOS to have the HDD to be 1st in the boot priority, then restart the computer with the USB still connected. Hopefully, it'll pick up where the installation setup left off and continue.

Hope this helps,

Hello all,

This Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook has been returned to us for the 4th time because the customer consistently complains that the notebook apparently shows graphic issues, even though we have tested it with every testing tool we have and these issues could not be reproduced. The specs are:

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook
Intel Core i5 2537M @ 1.40 GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

The Notebook was sent back to us and was tested for almost 2 weeks and the problem could not be reproduced. The steps taken so far:

Graphic test with FurMark - 3 times for 8-10 hours
CPU test with OCCT - 3 times for 8-10 hours
RAM test with Memtest - 1 time for 7 passes
BIOS updated to the newest version
Intel burn-in test - 3 times
Daily normal use tests - 7 days
Graphic drivers - last 2 versions used and the customer says the problem still happened.

The Notebook runs completely stable when it is with us, but as soon as it returned to the customer for the second time, this problem appears its nasty little face. I have included a picture from the customer showing the graphic problems she has experienced. This problem we have not had at any time it has been with us for testing.

Maybe someone here can point me in the right direction, because we have all but expended our testing options.

I can think of two possibilities:

Could this be an unstable power (wall socket) issue? Has the owner tried to run this laptop just from the battery, and maybe a different wall socket/outlet, to see if the issue still occurs?

How is the laptop used? Is it possible it is being used on a blanket/lap where the air vents are being blocked, causing the GFX card to overheat?

I bought the above model (second hand) recently and I am wondering if the installed 4GB of RAM is upgradable.
Some forums I have seen suggest it isn't, that the memory is soldered onto the motherboard but I am looking for a second opinion maybe from someone who knows if this can be done or has done it themselves.

Howdy, I have a Samsung NP300E5A-A03US laptop, It has it's own interface for it's updates, it keeps telling me I need a bios update, I have called Samsung support, chatted with Samsung techs. I have done this update at least 15 times, 2 different ways. The tier 2 tech told me that I didn't need the update, He said why do you think that your computer needs a bios update, and I said, because I keep getting these messages that I need it, and it is in the interface as needed. He said, you don't really need it, I said, why does it tell me I need the update. He said ,is your computer ok?, I said, it has some performance issues, and it turns stuff on and off by itself.

I have talked to at least 5 different people ,they all make me go thru the same steps. I keep telling them, this won't work, I have tried it ten times. They are starting to get rude. I googled bios updates and Samsung, and a lot of posts came up. Can someone help me and also to understand what bios is, it says it helps with computer stability.

Is it possible for this laptop? * In terms of hardware, does this laptop mainboard support PCIe SSD and NVMe (physically and electrically)? * how about the Bios of this laptop, does it support NVMe? I know Win10 supports NVMe, but how about the Bios? Highly appreciate specific answers to these questions

Hi Guys, thanks for accepting me on this forum.
I bought a Samsung Series 3 notebook from a notorious (rip off) high st retailer 6 months ago. Its been unopened in its box until yesterday when I gave it to my wife as a birthday pressie.
Eagerly opening it, we switched it on but all we got was a lighted back screen and a small rectangular dot. It would not boot up.
Have I been an idiot by not using this laptop as soon as I bought it. ie, has the system closed down ?
I havn't contacted the seller yet.. Thought I would check the experts out first.
As you can tell, My knowledge of computers is very limited.
Thanks in advance.

So I've had this laptop since christmas and I'm a bit worried about a few things..

The Samsung support for drivers is beyond pathetic. There is basically nothing available to the users except this software package called SW Update. A few of the updates simply don't work, which includes an audio driver and a bluetooth driver.

The switchable graphics has had trouble since Win 8.1, but I've gotten it to work thanks to some google searching. The Intel support for Win 8.1 has also been a mess from what I understand. Getting the Intel HD to run smoothly in tandem with the AMD Radeon has been an adventure...

However, I've had some random times where the AMD graphics driver randomly stopped responding and recovered successfully (not gaming at the time).

I'm worried that there is something more serious going on here, but hopefully it's just a driver issue.

Today I got a BSOD for the first time and I didn't get a chance to see what it was before it auto restarted.
I've since disabled the auto restart.

I've uploaded my mini dump file and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10. I soon discovered that my Function key did not work for the majority of keys.
I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos.

It does not work with brightness, backlight, wifi on/off, fan... etc.
The key does work with volume so I know that the key itself isn't the issue.

Was really hoping someone could help me with this issue! This is my first post so if you need more information please let me know!

Answer:Function Key Not Working - Samsung Series 7 Laptop

Don't know if there is a Samsung support forum, but if there is, you should visit it to see if others have similar problems and if Samsung has posted any answers.

I have an HP laptop that got trashed by the Win10 upgrade and, after I found the HP support forums, found out two things: (1) lots of other folks were in the same boat, and (2) HP does not provide Win10 drivers for my laptop. LOTS of folks with Win7 laptops were experiencing driver problems -- expecting MS to provide the working drivers, but in many cases, that did not happen.

So I'm having a strange problem with my laptop. While on, and plugged in, it continually flickers between charging and not charging as if I we're repeatedly plugging in and unplugging the AC adapter. However, the laptop charged with no issues when it's powered down. I initially thought that it was my AC port on my laptop, as some of the plastic has been broken off for some time, but when I noticed that it charge while off I was confused. The charging light flickers even on, but stays a solid orange while off.

Answer:Samsung Series 7 Laptop weird charging problem

If you have a multimeter you could check the power supply (if you know how) I have seen some (Toshiba) power supplies display similar charging symptoms. The last one I tested about 3/4 months ago was rated at 19 volts but when testing without any load it was displaying 17, 18, 17, 18. Which when under load would probably have dropped it further. Anyways a replacement PS resolved the issue.

HELP please... I have configured a Samsung laptop for a neighbour but can't turn off tapping, which I need to do to make the laptop usable for my neighbour, who is elderly.
The incumbent driver is from Elan (? ).

I have tried the latest driver from the Samsung website
I have tried a Synaptics driver

None of them deliver a 'disable tapping' button...

Anybody able to offer a solution / driver that allows this basic functionality?

Answer:Driver that allows disabling tapping -Samsung 3 series laptop touchpad

How about an external mouse mate wired or not and just disable the touch pad altogether when the mouse is plugged and it comes back on when the mouse is taken out . I do that with all my laptops as I find the touch pad really very irritating.

Also if the user is then finding it difficult to manipulate the machine via the touch pad the external mouse is going to be so much easier

Update (March 10) - This seems to be a problem others have had, but no solutions yet. See the Microsoft Forum post...

I have had some difficulty installing the drivers for the automatic rotation function for the Samsung Series 7. It worked fine with the developer preview, but I did a clean install of the Consumer preview, and I am no longer able to install it.

I downloaded the windows 7 drivers (Motion_Sensor_1.7.9.7) and ran using the Windows 7 compatibility. The software appeared to instal, but the device manager shows that it is not working, and the status indicates that Windows cannot load the drivers required.

To make this a bit more mysterious, I can't uninstall the drivers since the uninstall program kicks off an error that the program cannot run because it is awaiting a reboot. I have rebooted several times, but this does not appear to be a real issue.

My question is if anyone has encountered this sort of trouble, and what work-arounds might have worked. The other question is whether there is a particular registry entry to look for to unlock the 'waiting for reboot' issue?

Thanks for any help!

Lets all hope for that. But i am not sure whether you would get a 10 hr battery at the same time reducing the size and weight, as battery technology hasn't really improved by that much. I would imagine 7 hrs is more plausible. Price wise, you probably won't get it that cheap, unless you have the Premium Club discount during sales season.

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on my Samsung Ultrabook NP730U3E. After the upgrade, I'm having issues with the driver for my AMD Radeon HD 8500M graphic card. The PC is set up with a dual graphic card system with both the AMD card and an Intel HD Graphics 4000. The first time I upgraded I had problems with a black screen where I could only see the mouse cursor. This was resolved by enetering safety mode and deactivating the 8500M card. I then went back to win 8.0 and upgraded once more to 8.1, and the issue was gone. However, this is probably because now the AMD graphic card has been stopped by the system. AMD Catalyst Control Centre can't be opened either. I've figured as much as that there is some compatibility issues between the AMD Radeon 8500M and win 8.1, but does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Answer:AMD Radeon HD 8500M on Samsung Ultrabook, Win 8.1

Welcome to Eight Forums.
Have you tried updating your drivers?

There was a post on an issue similar to yours in this forum.

I do not have the same notebook, have a HP notebook with Windows 8.1. My issues were resolved by downloading the mobility drivers direct from AMD along with updated Intel drivers.

If you cannot obtain Windows 8.1 drivers for your graphics from Samsung, then you could try using the mobility drivers from AMD to try to resolve the switchable graphics issue. Be sure to update Windows first as they did release a WDDM Driver update a little while back that could help out with your problem.

Hope this helps in some way and keep us posted on your progress

BTW - are you on 8.1 or still using preview?

I bought recently a brand new ultrabook from Samsung but I don't like that there is only one partition in it, plus I want to install the fresh copy of windows 8, as preinstalled win 8 I don't liked. What are the best option? Let me know please. Thank you

Answer:Don't like preinstalled Windows 8 on Samsung UltraBook

There is more than one partition but the others are hidden. You can use Disk Management to view the others. There will be a small System Partition (100-200MB) & probably a Recovery Partition. Here's how to access & use Disk Management: do you feel the need to reinstall Win8? Just take the time to get rid of all the bundled crapware & then tweak Win8 for best performance.

Recently I had just gotten my Samsung ultrabook Chronos Series 7. I notice that I cannot remove my battery while charging like I did for most other laptops. It is somewhat like IPod and IPhone which the battery is in-built. I am very concerned about the battery life.(For my laptop, the battery usually lasts for 3 hours for high usage and 4~5hours for normal usage)

I usually have two ways when it comes to using the battery. I will like to seek your opinion on which one of them is better, or better yet, suggest another better solution for extending battery life(for long term usage, say 3 years maybe)

1. Activate Samsung Battery Life Extender, so that the battery will only be charged till 80%.(I heard that 20% should be left empty for lithium battery) And continue using my laptop as per normal while charging without removing the battery.(I cant remove it anyway)

2. I charge my battery till 90%, unplug the AC cable, and use the laptop without charging. I heard that it will reduce the amount of charging and discharging cycle on my battery, thus helping to extend battery life.(Correct me if I am wrong.)

Any input is welcomed and thanks in advance.

Answer:How to extend battery life for Samsung Ultrabook?

I'd want to save Samsung Recovery and a WIn7 backup image of the HD to wipe the HD and get a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for comparison, because I've not seen any OEM battery crapware that is better than Win7's built-in power options. The same can be said about all of the useless utilities the factory OEM's lard in along with the other bloatware that corrupts and throttles Win7. Most tech enthusiasts will not run these installs at all.

If you want to do literally a side by side comparison, then after saving your Recovery and backup, shrink C to do the Clean Reinstall to a new partition and try both as an experiment. Then you'll know for sure which runs better and can easily if you don't want it delete the Clean and Extend C again in Disk Mgmt, or we can help you delete the Samsung install and factory partitions and reclaim its space for the Clean Install.

Hello all! Thank
you for your help in advance! My computer recently started displaying a Blue
Screen of Death upon starting up Windows 8. It takes a really long time to start
up, and then it goes to the BSOD and displays a message:

I tried the Windows 8 system wipe and
restore, using the long method to format the drives, but the problem still
occurs. Attached is the memory dump. Any help will be greately appreciated.
Thank you,

Answer:BSOD: Sony VAIO T Series Ultrabook - SVT151A11L

It looks like you still have several updates pending, you should complete those without browsing or using your computer to install patches and update important drivers.

I noticed one of your oldest drivers is nfrd960.sys from 2006, this is a raid driver, im not sure if you have a raid system or not but this could be important for drive stability.. Finish the updates and lets see where we get from there..

Dear Forum

I have a new samsung ultrabook 5 series (NP530U3C-A01US) that is supposed to be fast in booting up and down using intels ssd cache. Unfortunately it does not stay in sleep mode but crashes instead (I do not think it is a BSOD, cant verify as the lid is closed). On opening the lid the laptop resumes from the main boot menu and windows announces that it has abnormally stopped and gives options of save boot. After normal reboot, the wireless card would not start properly, and everything is somewhat slow.
The failure is random, not every close lid will create the crash. I was not able to find the reason or the relationship that might cause it. I fear it is related to some custom samsung software installed (others refer to bloatware). Hope I can find help here.

I have reinstalled the factory image with the same result.
I have contacted Samsung help desk, with no useful help
I have re-installed the Intel drivers for centrino wifi module. My drivers for Graphics are up-to-date

I have used the SF diagnostic too and attached the result here. There is no dump file, although I have enabled it.

Hi there, my name is Martin. Hope you can help me figure out something.

My Laptop is absolutely dead, it won't turn on and also no lights are on (even the one that shows charging when charger is plugged in).

I think I might have inverted charger polarity, repairing it because cables where loose.

I Meassured with charger plugged, and I get 19v on some points (marked on pictures as yellow arrows).

At button battery: 0v
At battery charging slot: 1V

I read it could be a fuse or diode, but I couldn't find any blown part and also everyhting is so small I can't even see. Most components have no writing on them.

Please let me know what else can I meassure to figure out where's the problem and if it's possible to save the laptop.

Thank you!

My few months old Samsung Ultrabook has started randomly BSODing, sometimes it takes a while to happen and sometime it's twice a day. Usually it happens while I'm watching Blip-videos, but I do that a lot, so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that.

I'm running a dual boot of Ubuntu inside Windows, so this is only a minor setback because I use Ubuntu for anything important anyway, but I would like to keep using the windows portion for games.

Thanks for help in advance, and if there is anything I missed, please let me know.

hi! yesterday i dropped half of a cup of coffee on the left corner of my samsung ultrabook. Some of the buttons (from 'left ctrl' to 'w' and 'space' as an area) was totally in the mud of coffee including touchpad and 2 buttons of it. Immediately i turned of the pc, i didnt have chance to remove the battery as its embedded in the pc. Then right after turning it off, i dried all the wet surfaces i could see. i waited for a few minutes and kept using it again. i watched dexter for an hour or so then i turned it off again. here problem goes, when i open the pc touch pad won't work at all, and the keyboard is ok in the begining, but if i hibernate the pc and wake it up again or restart it, keyboard won't work either. to make the keyboard work again, i have to shut it down and start again. i reinstalled the touchpad driver but it didn't help. i think it can't detect the tochpad. now im writing this message with this semi-working keyboard and laptop. i want to ask how to fix it. thanks alot in advance.

After installing Samsung Touch Supporter on my non-samsung PC,I get this:

"This Program only runs on a Samsung PC.
Program will terminate."

I try to use some of the software that came with the Samsung Series 7 PC.
I will not let me open the program.
I have an Archos 9 PC and would like to use it.

Can anyone make it so that I can install this software on any other PC?
Sometimes it's a simple edit, can anyone look in to this?

Software can be downloaded from the Samsung website here(it's under manuals & downloads/software):

May you please attempt to fix Play Touch App (Software) (ver.,Play Touch Luancher (Software) (ver., and Touch Supporter (Software) (ver.

Note: Play Touch Laucher says the same message as above, but still manages to open, Touch Supporter does not though

Answer:Samsung Series 7 software on non-Samsung PC.

That software is only licensed to use on the Samsung PC it came on, so I don't know why you would expect it to work on any other PC.

Samsung is also the most difficult model to get the OEM software to work after a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is entirely legal and recommended for most users of preinstalled Windows to get the best Win7 performance.

But for Samsung it's especially important to back up the Recovery Image and make a secondary Win7 backup image so that if any features are missing after Clean Reinstall and the Samsung software won't work correctly, you can set it back to factory condition.

I have a samsung laptop, NP-QX410. It's about 3 years old now, and has for the most part worked great for those 3 years.

I'm extremely uneducated when it comes to computers, so you'll have to bare with me.
Beginning yesterday, the laptop just about locked up (When I say locked up, I mean went incredibly slow. I couldn't use the internet, couldn't open programs, things I had open would stop responding). I had been using it for about 2 hours prior, and nothing had happened to it to cause it to lock up (such as damage) and I hadn't downloaded any programs. Even trying to open the control panel with control alt delete was taking a long time. I decide to simply restart the laptop, but the problem still continues when it's turned back on.
It wasn't completely locked up though which was the weird part. It would have these "moments" where it would lock up, and go incredibly slow for about 5 minutes, then work perfectly normal for the next 5 minutes. Sometimes opening a webpage would cause one of these "lock ups" and then closing it would somehow fix it.
After looking around a bit, I've noticed a correlation where whenever the laptop goes into a phase where it goes incredibly slow, the disk activity shows "100% Highest Active Time". Then when it goes back to normal, the disk activity drops to anywhere from 0%-15% (where it probably should be). The CPU usage and physical memory usage are still fine and don&#... Read more

Sounds like a loose cable from laptop to lid.
If you have a monitor, try plugging it in. If problem persists it would suggest the graphics chip is failing but if it is OK on the external monitor, it confirms it is a loose cable.

A friend's Samsung laptop would no longer boot, and startup repair would run and failed several times.

We planned to restore it to factory original, but wanted to boot to a Linux disk to copy his files first. In order to allow that, we went into Setup and disabled Fast Bios mode, disabled Secure Boot, and changed the OS mode from UEFI to CSM. We booted the Linux disk, copied his files, then reset all the Setup settings back. But now the computer will not boot at all, it shows the Samsung logo screen, then shuts itself off. We reset Setup to Optimized Defaults, made no change.

There does not seem to be any hardware failure since I can still boot to the Linux disk and see the hard drive if I make all the same changes that we made the first time around in Setup. Any ideas what to try next? Thanks
edit: corrected some BIOS terms

Answer:Samsung laptop boot problems

Samsung probably has some documented method to troubleshoot while booting. Something like holding down a key or two while powering on. Then, beep codes could be heard that tell what the problem could be, when looked up. I'd check into that.

Check if the bios is set to AHCI or not.

I know people like having their recovery partitions - but - if this was my machine, I'd use Killdisk on the hdd. I'm the type that disables System Restore and never has any backup whatsoever for the OS itself besides install media, and since I am very knowledgeable, it's always been smooth sailing for me like this. Others perhaps not.

(My Windows 7 on my main machine has been the same install since early betas. I just recently was given a motherboard, memory and cpu which were all better than what I had - so I bit the bullet and clean installed Windows for it, heh.)

But, ya. If you have an install disk, then Killdisk might not be a bad idea for ya.

Hi, i recently restored my windows 7 laptop and everything went fine. I backed it up and everything. And before i restored it, i used to be able to connect to the wifi automatically. Now, instead of it showing the bars that you see on the bottom of your screen that shows that it can be connected to a network, now it shows an icon of a computer with a red X on it. I have tried several things but nothing seems to work. For example, i have tried "netsh wlan show drivers" on Command Prompt and it just says "There is no wireless interface on the system." I have also tried going on Services and set WLAN Autoconfig to Automatic and i changed the status to 'Started'. And I did the same with Network Connections, Network List Service, Network Location Awareness, and Network Store Interface Service. I have also gone to Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings. There it just has the picture of a 2 monitors and it says Bluetooth Network Connection, but it says "Not Connected". Someone please help me. Thanks for reading.

New to this site/forum. I know there was a thread related to this issue already - but it seems to have died - so hopefully this will kick things off again.
Recently purchased a Samsung 535 Windows 8 laptop. About 4 weeks in and pretty much all the touchpad gestures stopped working. I also have to triple tap where a double tap should do.
I have gone through the controls a thousand times, re-installed drivers etc.
Am planning to contact Samsung cust. serv. tomorrow - but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. To repeat - I have installed the drivers - but aside from that, why on earth would it stop working?

Looking forward to any responses.

Seagate is the more reliable, and has the longest warranty. Samsung, once a turkey, is not third behind Western Digital. When Samsung is really reliable, you will know as they are planning to change their warranty from three to five years... but we are not there yet.
Basically the SD defines three models in their P series, whereas the T-series is their main drive. Bearings and speed are the same.

Hello all!

I recently upgraded my Samsung Series 7 Ultra to the Windows 8.1 preview to check out it's new offerings. It's ok I suppose. Some positives and some negatives. Anyway on to my point:

So with the update came some unwanted changes. It seems to have disabled most of my func keys on the top row of my keyboard. Also, it now no longer saves my touchpad settings. They are reset to default everytime the system is rebooted.

I'm guessing this has to do with the Samsung software that controls these features not yet upated or ready to run on 8.1. It's just annoying so I thought I'd post for all you smart folks to see if anyone has any suggested remedies or similar issues from the update.

Best Buy replaced my hard drive for me, but they told me that they called Samsung and Samsung admitted that their newer models are set up to not be compatible with ANY other operating systems. WTF?! I bought the laptop to downgrade to Win 7 and mess with Ubuntu! I wish this "feature" would have been better advertised. The problem is, not only is it not compatible with other OS's, the hard drive bricks out when you attempt to install one. I lost everything on my laptop. All from running Ubuntu via disc.

Windows 8 has also given me lots of issues that I really need help with. For example, my drivers automatically reset, and the latest drivers simply don't work. I have to downgrade them every couple days in order for my touch screen to support pinch-to-zoom, flash player to work properly, and for my function keys to work. There are also various settings, such as automatic brightness that, even when disabled, automatically re-enable themselves without my consent! The unit itself was just really slow, and wasn't functioning like I felt it should. I can barely stream videos. I have Fios and my connection works just fine on my phone, desktop, xbox, etc.

After some fine tuning... Read more

Answer:Samsung Series 7 Ultra ISSUES!

Personally I would not believe anything that comes out of Best Buy's Geek Squad's mouth. The only thing that would keep you from installing Linux, is if there is no bios option to disable Secure Boot and UEFI. As for the hard drive failure, it should not have if it was a new machined, or even refurbished.

In order to change the brightness, you need to install Samsung's copy of Windows 8. If you want to install Windows 7, you still have to be able to disable Secure Boot & UEFI in the bios. Then install the extra software & drivers from Samsung's support site downloads for your device.

Hi all
I have Samsung Series 7 DP700A3D-A01US All-in-one (link to specs>>>> click here to upgrade to an Intel Core i7-5820K 3.30GHz.
I dont think i can do it tho. Plus i think i will have to upgrade my motherboard but don't know if i can put a new motherboard in my all-in-on due to space? or am i wrong.
I aslo want to put grade the ram too 2x8GB and graphics card.
Basically, i was going to build a new computer but i would like to just upgrade the parts in mine to the latest gear, can this be done ?

Answer:Samsung Series 7 DP700A3D-A01US All-in-one

You can upgrade the RAM to 16GB but you can forget about all the other upgrades because what you're hoping for isn't really possible with an all-in-one PC.

Has anyone put Windows 8 on a Series 7? Was wondering how it runs and if there are any issues in functionality?

Answer:Samsung Series 7 Slate with Windows 8...

I use one for my WinRT and WinPRT development in VS2013. I have it connected to a 23" monitor via HDMI and then a mouse+keyboard connected via a USB hub. Plenty fast enough for my development work and the touchscreen stays active even when using the external monitor (which is great for testing).
I can't recall running into any issues with it and Win8.

I have a samsung series 7 i5, and I want to upgrade the RAM and upgrade the Grapics. When I bought it I didn't have the funds for the i7 version but so far I'm happy the i5.
The only problem is, I do a lot of CAD work in university, and need more graphics rather then intel graphics (and the RAM needs to be a little bigger, but thats pretty simple) and I was wondering how hard it would be? I'd like to hear of anyone else doing the same thing!

Can I use Samsung 840 EVO Series MZ-7TE1T0 1TB in my T430S? It does not seem to be in the list of supported drives. The measurements seems to be similar in all but one thing... e.g. the Samsung seems to be slimmer. Intel - Samsung 70 9,5 100 mm 69,85 6,8 100 mm  My T430S recently died but hopefully they'll be able to fix it. The 180GB Intel SSD 520 Series disk that was in it survived, luckily. But I know that in any case, I need more storage space. So I figure I'll keep the 180GB as the "system" disk and buy the 840 EVO 1TB for storage. I work as a developer so I need the space for databases etc. Will it work? If it doesn't, what are some other compatible high end high capacity SSD's for the T430S?

Answer:Can I use Samsung 840 EVO Series MZ-7TE1T0 1TB in my T430S?

The samsung is compatible with your laptop, no problem with that. But your plan of installing 2 disks has some disadvantages. First of all, there is no space for two 2.5'' disks inside the T430s (70mm disks are referred to as 2.5''). You will have to remove the DVD-RW and install a caddy. Inside the caddy you can install one of the disks. It's not difficult or expensive but you will lose the DVD drive. Second, why would you buy a 1TB SSD for storage??? It would cost you sometning like 600 euros while for 80 euros you could buy any 1TB mechanical disk and it would be more than fast enough for storage. SSDs are meant for the operating system and programs and there they make a big difference. But anyway, if you have lots of money to burn, why not? There is another solution though, much more sensible i think. Your T430s can accept mSata SSDs. They come in the form of add-on cards, much like ram modules, and they are installed in the interior of the laptop. Take a look here and here. You can buy a 256GB mSata SSD for around 200 euros and install your OS and programs there, leaving the 2.5" compartment available to install a big 1TB mechanical disk for storage. This way you get to keep your DVD drive as well. My 2 cents..

I have built lots of systems over the years, but this is my first build using SSD, having seen a great article on this site showing Intel raid 0 working on the series 7 boards with trim working and I think garbage collection as well with fantastic results, so I thought I would have a go at it myself.
My Problem, the article I read did not give out this information and this is where I need the help. When the ssd’s firmware has been updated if needed as I am led to believe it is best to do this with the drives plugged into other ports and to check for updates. Question 1, when the ssd’s are attached to the system and the bios is set to raid, and the raid is created in crtl I set up, when I come to install the OS which will be a clean install, do I need to install the Intel raid driver Via a USB stick or the old Floppy way at the Screen F6 prompt to add an additional driver device, or do you just use the native Microsoft drivers that Windows will install?. Question 2, when the O/S is installed and then I add the Intel RST desktop software does this software provide the tools for the Trim support / garbage collection automatically in say a tool box built in the software or, will I need to install the Samsung Magic software suite as well and run the tools when needed from that Software? Any help will be thankfully received; I am waiting for this info to start building my new rig.

Answer:Samsung SSD X2 IN RAID 0 On Intel Series 7 Help Please

I set up RAID 0, using two Crucial M4s, earlier this year. You will need to set the SATA controller to RAID in the BIOS, then restart and setup your RAID array (your motherboard manual will tell you how). After doing that you should be able to install Windows as usual, with Windows installing basic drivers. After installing Windows you can then install the Intel drivers. Just make sure you check that you are using drivers that support Trim on RAID: "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (RAID) driver version" or later.

OK, I am definitely throwing this laptop out the window if this isn't fixed soon

a few days ago, I discovered I couldn't type a capital a, v or x using either of the SHIFT keys. Works fine if I use the CAPS LOCK. This is obviously Very XXXX Annoying. This problem occurs whether using the Samsung keyboard or my wireless Microsoft Arc. Other keys seem to be fine, and no other problems whatsoever.

any ideas? I am not very computer savvy so be gentle with me.

So I downloaded the ISO and burned it via unetbootin.
I go into bios and change the following settings:
disable fast boot, and make the OS selection CMS make USB boot first
Then when i boot, it just boots back to windows 8. I also noticed that once I reboot back into bios, the USB is not set to first boot as I set it initially.
By the way I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos with nividia graphics.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Samsung chronos 7 series with Windows 8.
I was about to update and restart for the new files of Windows. Not Windows 10. Then it crashed and I manually turned it off. When I rebooted it all it does is flash a blue screen saying "your pic ran into a problem" then restarts. I'm not able to get to recovery mode from the partition either. It just freezes up when I try that. I ordered a recovery disc, and that doesn't load either. When I load Linux it shows that I have like 9 different partitions now instead of the couple that there should be. My friend also ran a diagnostic, and it shows that there are 28 bad sectors. It's a terabyte drive and I heard hat bad sectors are replaced or a virus could be making it show them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. At this point I just want to reinstall the oem Windows and lose the data because I don't believe I'm able to recover the data.

I just got a Samsung Series 7 Slate off of Craigslist. I have already booted from a USB flash drive with Windows 8 64 bit. But I realize I don't want to just go ahead and install it without some advice from some others who have already been.

First of all, do I do a full install of Windows 8, or do a dual boot with Windows 7? I've already managed to dual-boot my desktop PC with a Windows 8 64 bit on a VHD partition. I used Easy BSD to set up the boot menu.

I found a page on the Samsung site, that describes using a USB-based keyboard when doing the installation.

So as much as I'd like to fire up the gadget on Windows 8, I'd rather hear from someone who's already been there.

Answer:Just got Samsung Series 7 Slate, how do I install Windows 8?

I would burn a set of the factory restore disks for Windows 7 before I do anything. There is a good chance the hidden recovery partition could get messed up and end up not being usable.

Hi and thanks for reading.

I have a Samsung Series 5 Ultra Touch. The other day, for reasons unknown, it would start up into the auto repair process. It would "diagnose PC" then "repairing", warning that might take a long time. Well after 24 hours I figured this was a dead end.

I have been through a crazy number of troubleshooting steps
--couldn't get into any F8 or Shift=F8 action
--Samsung's Restore mode crashed (F4)
--Made a recovery USB and figured out the magical BIOS steps that would actually allow me to use it after much trial and error)

The recovery process has yielded no joy.
--System Restore crashed
--Automatic Repair was never ending
--System Refresh said the drive was locked

So I started using DOS commands. Chkdsk seems to be taking forever to accomplish very little. Please see the screenshot:

Should I let it continue with chkdsk /f /r /x?

I want to increase memory from 4 gb to 8 gb but can not open memory plastic cover on back of computer

Answer:how to open memory cover on Samsung all in one pc series 5

The one I worked on was the same access as a laptop, remove the single screw and then use a thin blade/screwdriver to prise the actual cover off - don't insert it too far, just enough to lift the edge. They generally take SODIMM chips, the same as a laptop as well, you can check on website to see what is available as the one I saw only had two slots and any upgrade would have meant discarding the original memory."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Maybe this is the start of my quest to find the solution? but until I know what that red arrow means I;m stuck. pleas help.!!!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to help me with my dilemma. I have a Samsung series 5 ultra. Model number NP530U3C-A01US. Running Windows 7. I was in the middle of updating my bios and my computer froze. I waited well over 30 minutes and still nothing. I couldn't move my mouse or anything. Also I could not shut it off. I had to push the power kill button on the bottom of the ultrabook to finally get it to shut off. Now when I turn it on it doesn't do anything. My big question I guess is if it is now a paperweight?

Hi everyone, i am really confused what to buy from laptop or ultrabook.

I want which can run 24x7 but gives best performance. must have good battery life.

So anyone can suggest me any good model from these two.

I trust acer, lenovo and samsung so it will be good if you can suggest me any model from this 3 companies.

And sorry if i have opened the thread in wrong section.

Answer:What to buy laptop or ultrabook?

I think the choice between ultrabook and laptop will depend on how you're going to use the computer and what your price range is. Ultras are definitely gonna cost more. Probably more than $700 for the basic models going up to about $1,200 or more. A decent laptop can be had for about $400.

Then there's size and weight. If you're going to carry it around all day the ultras will be much lighter. But do you want to watch an occasional movie or play a game? The ultras don't have optical drives and they've got really, REALLY small screens. So take a look at this article and see how many check marks you can give to the ultras and how many check marks you can give to the laptops. The one with the most check marks wins.

Problems on initializing Samsung 80GB with Samsung's Disk Manager: Ontrack(tm)

There is some problem on my 80gb Samsung HD. The situation is this:

I have had an old computer which have an ancient motherboard.. because of the limitations of motherboard it was initializing Hd as 8gb.. I installed Samsung's Disk Manager program named Ontrack. It does something with the MBR to make the 8gb initialized HD as 80gb! When you're in bios setup, it says your samsung is 8gb but when you reset and wait for the system disk error message Ontrack activates and then your hd is 80 gb, you can install OS after that.

Here is the problem: I bought a new computer whose motherboard to initialize my 80GB hd as 80GB also, but things didn't happen like that. On bios setup it says my HD is 33gb.

I plugged the HD to my other computer and its partition magic 8 says "33gb BAD" also..

A modified MBR by a program (ontrack) can fool bios setup? if so, can i use XP CDs system recovery console with fixmbr command? ?f it is not how can i make my hd back to normal (not for old motherboards, initialized as 80GB)??

New motherboard is MSI RS482M2-IL and because of this problem I cannot enable S.M.A.R.T. feature. I need help and thanks from now on!

So I was in the market today and hell bent on getting the ASUS tablet that runs on windows 7. I travle a lot and hate caring around my heavy 7 pound computer with all of its cords. I wanted something more simple so I decided to buy a tablet. Then I ran into the Samsung tablet which i herd had more to offer than the ASUS but I was not to sure. The specs looked the same except the samsung had tons more memory and better battery life but that was the only thing I could find.

Which one would you think would be a better purchase between the two ; ASUS Eee Slate ep121 or Samsung Series 7 Slate?

Answer:Samsung Series 7 Tablet vs. ASUS Eee Slate ep121

I was looking at the same combo. I liked the lighter weight of the Samsung but the Asus may have a better reputation. I dont see a keyboard included with the Samsung either. I cant wait till I can stop lugging a 6 pound computer on trips.
I want fast graphics for movie replay from my DSLR and a 3.0 USB would be nicer. Im in no rush though so these things may come to fruition in the next 6 months.

Hi All,

New here and after a bit f help.

I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit onto my Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook and windows is working well however when I restart the machine it wont boot unless I still have the install USB inserted.

- With the USB it brings up the message "Press any Key to boot from USB", I do nothing at Windows loads normally.

- Without the USB it brings up a message saying "All boot options tried. Press F4........"

I have changed my BIOS settings to disable fast boot and secure boot as per instructions I found on the web, and no changing of the Boot order seems to help.

I have also tried running startup repair 3x however it is saying there is no problem found.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Best Regards,

p.s I forgot to say I have a dual state drive which is 22gb SSD and 500GB HDD, I have tried the install onto both the C: SSD and the HDD without any luck

Hi guys,

I have a Samsung Series 6 LED TV 46-inch, which fully supports 1080p. So, I am trying to output my laptop (system specs) at 1080p via HDMI. The TV recognizes my computer, and displays it. When I go to 'Screen Resolution' and select 1080p for my TV, it outputs, but it outputs a bigger screen than I can see. Meaning, a sizable portion of the taskbar and gadget space (right side of the screen) is cutoff. But, the full screen is being used so... Well, I'm just stuck. Help would be appreciated as I want to watch movies via HDMI on my TV.

Answer:Output 1920 x 1080 resolution to Samsung Series 6 LED TV

That's the "overscan" area being cut off..

Some TVs allow you to turn off overscan, but then on normal TV you will see the Closed Captioning data and other tweaky stuff...

So the preferred way is to have the video driver "shrink" the image area. Ususualy there is a page on the video card control panel for "sizing" the display. What it does is lower the actual display resolution by a few pixels on all sides but still outputs the full 1080P to the monitor, that way you can fit the entire screen on the TV.

So hopefully you have at least one of those options to work with.

Updating to Windows 10 might have disabled/removed the Samsung Settings application which enables the function keys. In your case you should try to download SW Update from Samsung's website and install Samsung Settings and any other necessary drivers from there. If you can't get this to work, I suggest you refer to the latter pages of the 2013 Series 7 chronos / Ativ Book 8 15" owner's lounge (NP770Z5E / NP780Z5E / NP870Z5E / NP880Z5E) thread on NotebookReview.
