XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

Question: XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

Hello, I would love to ask for some help!
I've recently purchased the newer Dell XPS 13 9360 Non-touch (not the 2 in 1) and am having some trouble with using an external monitor. The screen (on the external monitor) keeps on flickering and has a very unstable connection.
I've searched and found that apparently lowering the power output of the WIFI network adapter can fix this problem.
The problem is that the current XPS's wifi adapter doesn't allow the power output to be changed. The previous fixes were geared towards intel wifi adapters.
The general power settings for the computers doesn't show wifi card power controls.

I have updated all the drivers for the computer including the wireless adapter. Still the options doesn't change.

Has anyone found a way to get a stable external monitor to work with the Killer Wireless Adapter cards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

For what it's worth: For me (XPS 13 9360, QHD, i7, 16 GB, Killer WiFi), external screens are perfectly stable, even with wireless being on relatively high throughput load, albeit not high power (energy) load.
I am connecting both HDMI and DisplayPort displays, each with cheap native USB-C adapters (i.e. through Thunderbolt). I also have full success with a Dell DA200, through its built-in HDMI graphics adapter.

My XPS13 9350 was one of the first with USB-C port (Thunderbolt 3) only and no DisplayPort, supplied in early 2016. It has caused a lot of headaches. As I tried to connect my external Dell monitor using  a USB-C to HDMI adapter from Dell (part no: 47KD7) there was no external display at all. Dell Support advised me to update BIOS. But it led to a complete freeze of my laptop and Dell replaced the motherboard. (It was a real nuisance as I use my laptop for work!!)
With the new motherboard,  the laptop/USB-C adapter/external monitor worked fine for 15 months. Until one day, out of the blue, the external screen started flickering with an image that was all distorted (cut in the middle). The laptop screen was fine. After a few weeks of flickering, there is no signal at all to the external screen. Moreover, as I connect the adapter in USB-C port the resolution on my laptop screen changes.
I know there have been a lot of issues with USB-C connector on XPS 13 and 15.  I have reduced wifi-power to 50%  but it has had no positive effect (several persons have said on this forum that it helped the video output).
I am grateful to learn if anybody with similar problems found a solution. Cheers

Dear forum,  yesterday I bought my new ThinkPad t470. While everything else is working fine, the notebook seems not to be able to detect my external monitor (ThinkVision t2424p), when connecting it via a VGA to HDMI adapter. This setup flawlessly worked with my last notebook. Regardless whether I try to connect the monitor when Windows is already running or when I boot into Windows with the monitor already connected, the monitor doesn't show up in the screen resolutions settings nor does there appear an additional device in the device manager.  Do you know what the problem might be? The apater works fine when used with a different Notebook. Thank you very much, EBM

Hey, I use a HP Envy x-360 m6 Convertible laptop running windows 10. I tried connecting it to my old ASUS VH192D monitor using a HDMI to VGA converter (the laptop doesn't have VGA port and the monitor doesn't have a HDMI port).  When I first connected the monitor to my laptop both the laptop and the monitor adapted to their native resolutions and were working fine. I tried to change the ASUS monitor's resolution to 1080 (native resolution 1366x768) which threw me an error saying OUT OF RANGE.  I then changed the resolution back to its dafault value but the error message was still being displayed. I hard reset the monitor and also tried a software reset. Both were unsuccessful.  On doing some research, I found that there could be numerous causes to my problem. I checked all the possibilities but I still can't find a solution. The first thing I checked was the cable and the adapter. I plugged the cable, adapter and monitor to all my other computers and it seemed to work fine. I then checked if all my drivers were up to date. I updated my display drivers individually (though they were already up to date) and also restarted my computer numerous times. As I was trying to solve my issue I noticed that my laptop no longer recognised the second monitor. When I checked the advanced display settings the second monitor was not detected but when I selected duplicate screens from the options, my laptop resolution automatically adapted to the second monitor's ... I've tried cheaper models.
They really really suck.
They work!!
But then the screen goes blank every minute or some.
Completely unworkable.

Just wondering if I buy a more expensive one if this will then be flawless?
Has anyone used and can recommend?

Thanks

Hi, I just got a new XPS 8920 from Costco that was connected to my older Dell monitor via HDMI to DVI adapter.
The monitor comes on when I start the computer, but will not wake up automatically from sleep mode unless I push the power button on the CPU slightly.
Is there something I can do, or is it just a problem because of incompatibility with the older monitor.
Thank you! Kim

I am using a usb-c to hdmi adapter to output to a TV but the black levels look washed out. I had no issues with the same TV and a previous laptop that had a dedicated hdmi port. In the intel graphics settings usually there is a "quantization range" setting to change color space between RGB Limited and RGB Full if the intel graphics is driving the hdmi port. However, in this case, there is no hdmi port but instead a usb-c to hdmi adapter, thus the quantization range setting is missing. I've had the same issue before on a previous laptop with usb-c. I've tried installing thel atest drivers, including the non-validated ones from the intel website, but none give me the quantization range setting.

Answer:Yoga 900-13ISK: No image on second monitor using USB-C to HDMI adapter

I have connected via the USB type C adapter to a Dell U2410. However the connection appears to be intermittent, as if port requires a timing response peridically to maintain the connection. It appears as a loss of HDMI connection on the monitor approx. 1/minute (for a about 2-3 seconds), then recovers without intervention.

Takenote that you can't just replace the card with the same model number without complying with the indicated fru number. Doing so, will result to a error message at startup. This restriction is popularly called as the whitelist. An alternative to the desired wireless communication between your TV and your unit is to have ChromeCast. You might want to explore this since this is easier compared to the replacement of the wifi card.

I've tried 3 now.
All work OK first day.
Next day I get a few flickers where the display stops for a second.
Nothing to worry about. I can live with.
Next day, gets worse. It sucks, but I can live with and don't want to go to the bother of returning.
Next day worse.
Next day worser.
Next day I'm shouting and yelling and trying no to swear.

First one I bought: cheap one - fairly well reviewed.
Next one: one of the more expensive ones. Same thing happened.
Current one (one of the more expensive ones, different make): it's started. I know where it's going.

I have updated my BIOS and anything I can find on my HP laptop.
I use the latest drivers from the manufacturer.
This just sucks!

I desperately need 3 displays!
I have an existing one from the HDMI port.

Is there one particular make that is recommened?

All bought from Amazon.

Thanks.

My question is, what would be the best wireless adaptor that I would need to get? Do I need to get 2 of them?

I would like both of the HDs to be accessible by any of my computers, laptops as well as desktops, PC's as well as by a Mac notebook!

I basically need something that would reach a good distance, something stable and reliable!

Hey,
I have two problems so i will explain the scenario then number out the issue. I had a new hard drive installed, when i booted the laptop, it worked well. The wifi in my area is very low so I was told I can use a wireless adpter to "boost" the signal strength received. I was given a Encore ENUWI-N3 Wireless Adapter to use. I installed the utility program from the official website and the computer still did not recognise the device, so I deleted the program. I then lost connection to the internet, and at the time i thought the wifi can dropped (i later realised that was not the case since my phone's wifi was still connected). I then reinstalled the software ( the executible file was saved on the harddrive), and it give me the same message that there are no drivers for the adapter.

I shifted my attention to my failed internet connection, after troubleshooting it give me a error 28 message stating that there were no drivers installed for the Broadcom wireless adapter that is internally installed. I tried a system restore to before i tried installing the Encore adapter, and still nothing, the system continued to give me the same message and it registered in the "device manager" as unknown device named "ethernet controller" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have been able to borrow a laptop and download the LAN adapter fron the ACER support website, and although it had no "set up.exe" file visible i was able to get... Read more

Hi all

I just bought a D-Link wireless cardbus adapter (DWL-G650), followed the included instructions and yet windows won't recognise the new hardware. Currently, it is actually plugged in but it is as if the adapter is non existent. Did I purchase a dead adapter?
I'm running windows XP SP2 on a Compaq Presario V3118au.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

So when you insert it you do not get the beep noise or anything from your laptop?

Also in Device Manager, it doesn't show up? (Start-->Run-->devmgmt.msc)
And there aren't any yellow querried symbols in Device Manager?

If No, then I'd say hardware issue on the card, or the pcmcia connector in the laptop

I recently purchased a Etekcity Dual Band USB adapter (5G capability) to use in place of the internal 2.4 wireless adapter. The drivers installed successfully with no problem. All is well with the internal wireless card. When I disable the internal wireless card to search for wireless networks with the USB adapter, it states no networks are in range. I have full connectivity with the internal wireless card. The USB adapter does not show in ipconfig /all regardless of if I boot normally or boot in safe mode with networking. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. I have connected the USB adapter to another computer and confirmed the adapter is working correctly. The laptop is a HP Pavilion dv7 64 bit OS. Alright, so, just to begin, here are my specs:HP pavillion a305wMicrosoft Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002, service pack 1hmmmm... ok, this brings my attention suddenly to another question, but for now, I got 248MB RAM.Intel Celeron 2.70 GHzOk, so first problem. I finally got the internet setup up in my apartment (about 6-7 hours of work total) and then got the wireless router to work (another 2-3 hours). But, after all of that, I still can't quite use the internet! So basically, I got a Wireless USB Adapter for my desktop. Normally, it works fine. That is, until I decide to plug in my External Hard Drive. If I do that, I lose internet. If my hard drive is already plugged in and then I plug the USB Wireless Adapter in, the computer doesn't even recognize the USB device and says there's a malfunction. Its not the USB ports. I've tried them all, in all combinations, not to mention my keyboard, mouse, and technically the external hard drive all work, just not the wireless adapter when the hard drive is plugged in. Also, I don't think its the adapter. That's what I thought at first, and just returned the one I had for a different one. The first one was a linksys, and now the one I got is a netgear. Two different adapters, two different companies, same problem. This leads me to believe it may be a configuration problem or a software problem with the computer itself, but I have no idea how to fix it. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate the help. Hello, this problem has really confuzzled me. I have just bought a new wireless USB adapter, ran it through the setup entered the password etc. Fine. Nicely connects to the router everytime (well ok most the time). But it cant seem to find the internet, which i know is there because my house mate has no problems with it. I've read quite a few complaints about this adapter. Is it worth just returning it and trying a different one? Or does anyone have any ideas?

It finds the submask, ip address, sets a channel automatically. One thing i noticed though is it doesnt create a gateway. (i asume cos i cant find the net). I did have internet before but they were wired. I've since then disabled the normal ethernet adapter and disabled the old connections. So i dont think theres anything conflicting.

Please help?!!
Thank you in advance i really appreciate it.

Answer:Belkin Wireless adapter - can connect to the adapter, but not the internet!!!

I'm going to guess that the IP address that it finds is 169.254.x.x and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, right? It's really NOT connecting to the router, which is why you don't have a Default Gateway or DNS servers.

You don't have to disable the wired interface to connect wirelessly, there's no conflict.

I'd suggest you first disable the encryption and see if it connects. If it does, then you need to make sure you enter matching passwords for the encryption on each end. Note that for WEP you should ONLY use the HEX password, do not use the passcode option.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2.

Hi,

thanks for looking in and trying to help. I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it, and as usual today the laptop's screen frame also accomodates the internal Wireless Internet antenna. I am able to use the existing networks when they are close enough to me.

But I wanted to have a better reception, so I bought one of those USB-based Wireless Internet Adapters (WIA) which have mounted a little 5 dBi antenna (dBi = Decibel) on its side. I bought recently a much larger 22 dBi antenna, which I can use to replace the smaller antenna on that WIA. Windows also recognized the USB device correctly (please see the screenshot link: http://www.NADB.net/v/Prom/WLAN.jpg), but the connection tool at the lower right side of Windows (system tray area) displays only those networks which the internal screen frame antenna captures.

I tried already to disable the internal antenna, but then I don't get any network. Why can't the Network Connection icon not show networks the USB WIA might capture? What is it I am doing wrong?

Please don't mind to ask me for additional details here, I will provide them as additional details.

Answer:Can I have sound on my external music system when using the wireless adapter ?

For which device? If its a Surface or windows 8 Tablet then yes you just need to change the audio playback device. On the phone I don't believe its possible but if your watching a movie and split the sound the audio may be out of sync. If your TV has audio out connect that to your external source and it will be all synced up.

HelloI use a Lenovo TP X1 (Type 12942NG)After a crash I setup the laptop with a original MS Windows 7 Pro CD. I can't recover from a Lenovo Recover DVD. I use the Lenovo System Upgrade Tool to install all drivers etc. But the displayport with the VGA adapter doesn't work. It's not a hardware problem. When I boot linux the VGA adapter works. When I connect to a external monitor or beamer the system detects that. When I use the function "clone display" the buildin display reduce the resol. but no signal to external display. When I use the function "extend display" the buildin display is dark (but active !) an also no signal to external display. I read also the blog how-to connect an external display. there is mention to use the "Extended Settings" Link after select the external monitor but in my case this Link isn't active. Any hints for this problem ? Regards Gerald

Answer:External Monitor/Beamer doesn't work with X1 and Lenovo Displayport/VGA adapter

Hi ederg:

You may want to download/update: Monitor file for Windows 7 (Thinkpad)

The reason I say that is because the readme it states, "If you use the preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows OS without the preload image."

Since you setup the Thinkpad with Windows 7 Pro CD and no longer have the preload image, this may fix the problem.

Also, have you checked the website for the displayport manufacturer? They may have updated drivers there that wouldn't have been on the update tool you used.

*Edit* You can also check the: External monitors issues section here. It goes over some basic troubleshooting you may want to try first (I just came across it now)

Let us know how it turns out!

I am using the VGA port of a Dell 4-in-1 adapter (DA100) to connect my XPS 13 with touch screen display to a Dell U2412M monitor. The Intel HD Graphics Control Panel does not detect that there is an external monitor attached to the computer, i.e., the Graphics Options menu does not show the "Output To" option, the Graphics Properties' Display menu shows only "Built-in Display" under the Select Display tab, etc. The DA100 was installed remotely by Dell Support (after neither I nor they could find the driver on the Dell support website, as instructed to do by the software driver download guide that comes with the adapter), so I assume that it was installed correctly. Has anyone else experienced this problem and, hopefully, have a solution?

I'm not totally computer-literate when it comes to hardware and such, but I am fairly literate with most computer terms. So in advance, I apologize for any confusion a misused hardware name may cause.

Also, before I begin, let me just say that the issues hereafter discussed apply to a computer separate from this one. This computer works fine, but the one I will be talking about, my computer, is the one without an internet connection at the moment.

So recently, my network adapter decided to stop working. I won't go into the details, but it's completely fried, and I'd much rather spend the money to get a new one instead of go through the hassel of trying to fix my old one. And thus we come to question number one:

Do most (if not all) network adapter cards work with most PCs? I have a Dell Dimension 4500 with Windows XP Home edition with highspeed cable internet, so would pretty much any network adapter do the job? My stepdad, who is fairly computer-literate (though often too cocky about it) says that pretty much all network adapters will work with any computer, unless the computer and network adapter are old or new, respectively. Also, what are the most reliable brands of network adapters? What kind of details about the product should I look for when purchasing?

Now on to the second part of my post: wireless internet adapter. For a while, my computer has been a few feet from the router because we had/have no way for a cord to reach anywhere else, particu... Read more

Starting with Windows Vista, the driver for our wireless adapters allow us to switch our wireless adapter into monitor mode.

I am using Windows 7 and I had installed Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4. A utility named "nmwifi" in Microsoft Network Monitor installation directory let me switch my wireless network adapter into monitor mode and set the channel for capturing
purpose. Since that utility from Microsoft can do it, I am sure there are function which can let me change the channel of my wireless adapter while in monitor mode.

On MSDN website, I can't find any C++ function that let me set the channel of my wireless adapter while in monitor mode. I can't even find any related function in Windows Driver Kit section on MSDN Library site.

Can someone please either suggest me the functions, or tell me which forum is suitable for asking this type of question?

I've been using my USB adapter for quite awhile now and decided to go back to my laptop's wireless adapter and when i did it refuses to connect to my Internet.

I try diagnostics but it says there is no problems but it would keep verifying if the network diagnostics service is active. However it is functioning but still doesn't find a reason to why my internal adapter isn't connecting to the Internet.

Could it be that my laptop's network adapter is not functioning?

Hello, I connect my XPS 9360 to two external Samsung monitors (one at home and one at office) with a Cable Matters USB-C HDMI adapter. The brightness is excessive and contrast is low, so I must heavily change the controls on both monitors to get acceptable results. Before I was using an ASUS UX32VD with internal HDMI port and the monitors were ok in their default configuration, and brightness and contrast were better than the one I get with the XPS.Is there anything I can do on the Dell to change the brightness output on the external monitor? Thanks,Mattia

Hello guys
I'm about to buy an external monitor (Samsung C27F591) and i'm not sure how to connect it to my Dell XPS 13 9360. Here's what I know (or think)
1. There's two types of USB-C to HDMI; Thunderbolt and DisplayLink - right? What to buy? (this also means that I have to plug the wireless usb dongles in the laptop each time i want to "dock" it)2. There's two buggy Dell dock's and then there's a Dell adapter with VGA, HDMI and USB 2.03. There's a lot of cheap USB-C adapters on eBay, with HDMI, USB, etc. - But do they work?
That's a lot of options and I just want something that works and is cheap. So, what do you guys advice me to do?

I just recently purchased an adapter from Amazon HERE...

After going through the run around with customer support, my issue is still not solved.

I am trying to connect an external monitor through HDMI via the adapter linked above, but an unable to solve the issue.  My laptop recognizes the external monitor is plugged in, and is functioning as you would expect with an external monitor (i.e. two screens, dragging between two screens, etc...).  However, it seems as though the laptop is not sending any video output to the external monitor.
I have updated all drivers and installers that were recommended to me by Dell customer support.  Additionally, I had changed a setting in the BIOS to disable some sort of USBC or Thunderbolt 3.0 security, as per recommendation in the comments of the linked (above) product.

Any suggestions?

Hello,
I purchased XPS 13 9360 two weeks ago.
I have a screen resolution problem (blur, not clear) for all MS Office applications on external monitor (HP Pavilion 27xw).
Video driver is up to date (Intel HD graphics 620). I called DELL support but they ask me to pay as the problem occurs only for MS Office applications.
I searched online and found one solution which I need to make external monitor as "Main Display".
Then MS-Office application will have same problem on my laptop screen.
Please help! Is this really MS-Office problem?

Answer:XPS 13 9360 - MS Office screen resolution on external monitor

Hi stk7105,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies your monitor is not working the way you expected.  Dell has not tested our products to work with this HP Pavilion monitor, so it would not be supported.
Have you tried a different monitor?
Please contact HP for assistance.  Thanks.

Hi,

I bought the D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band USB Adapter (Model: DWA-160) and installed the drivers and such, and my computer detects the actual USB Adapter fine, but the software that came with the device doesn't, and gives me the message "Wireless Adapter Not Found!"... It does say that it's compatible with XP/Vista, and I'm on 7, so maybe there's a problem there?

I checked for special Windows 7 drivers for the device but I couldn't find anything. I phoned my internet service provider for help, as well as the D-Link help line and neither gave me anything that worked. I've uninstalled/installed it several times, trying different variations and nothing seems to work. It's not the device itself that's malfunctioning because the exact same thing happened to the one I traded in for this one, same model, same results. Also, my USB ports work fine (I've tested it) and my router is not far, and has a strong signal to where my desktop is. I've even connected my Nintendo DS/Wii to it easily from the same distance.
I'm at a loss for what I have to do... All I want is to connect to my router and have access to internet. I hope someone can help me!

P.S. If you need any specifications on my hardware, etc just let me know.

There are Windows 7 drivers here: You need to determine which version of the adapter you have to obtain the correct drivers.

I have a Dell XPS 13 9360. I connect it to an external monitor (HP LE1901w) through a Dell DA100 adapter. I use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and as a driver for the adapter I use the latest given by DisplayLink.
If I want to use both monitors (the built-in display and the external one at the same time, the latter with VGA connection) I get problems with the size of the windows.
Just for information, for the built-in monitor I use a rescaling of 2, and I really need to do that otherwise it would be impossible for me to read it.
I figured out that, going into System settings-Monitor, one has necessarily to choose one option for  "rescale the contents of the window to match:" and then one has to choose between the monitor with smallest or biggest controls. Both choices are bad for me, because either the external monitor gets windows too big or the built-in montior gets windows too small.
How to fix that?

External out using VGA and my Acer AL2216W shows flickering especially when there's movement on the screen (animation/video running). By flickering I mean thin lines running across the screen. Not thick enough to be a hindrance but very noticeable especially in videos.I originally thought it was the VGA out's fault. Turns out this only happens when I'm plugged into the AC. When I'm running off the battery there's no flicker. This happens no matter which wall outlet I use or surge protector.Changing power adapters with my room mate's didn't help either (he has the same model). Seems it's the power unit inside the laptop?

Answer:Y410 External Monitor Flicker w/ AC

*Where's that edit button*...The problem occurs on my room mate's Y410 as well.I'm guessing it's due to improper shielding inside the laptop.Does anyone else have this problem? Is this something that Lenovo guarantees an easy fix for if I shipped it in aka is Lenovo aware of this problem?  Reason I ask is because this is my sole computer (no desktop). So I will be without a computer if I get this RMAed.

I have the Dell XPS 13 9360 and have been using the Dell USB type-C adapter to connect to wired Ethernet network. I have a problem when waking up the laptop from suspend. VGA and USB on the adapter continue to work well after wake from suspend but the Wired Network functionality of the adapter is not recognized.
Note that if I unplug and replug the adapter it is recognised correctly.

hi,

Im having a problem when i connect my laptop with external display.
My laptop is HP tx2(12" display) with windows vista sp2 and my external display is an LCD tv of Onida(Xaria 22")

When i connect my laptop to the LCD tv, the connection is ok... display comes properly....resolution is also good...
but after some time of using it(either watching videos or even normal browsing) the display flickers and then gets diconnected(with the disconnection sound or tone) and automatically gets connected again.
sometimes after auto re-connection the resolution also gets changed....this is really annoying..

Iv used the help section... they asked me to increase the flicker rate to atleast 75 but my laptop has a max freq of 60hz only. iv also applied max resolution to the screen...but the same thing always happens again..
then i also connected the same lcd tv to my another laptop(hp dv6000, 15.4", vista sp2) and the same problem never comes. even the flicker rate of that laptop is max 60 hz. both have same resolutions also

iv tried all that i cud.... advise please.....

HI,  I have an hp envy laptop (m6-aq005dx) and it has a usb-c port. I wanted to display a second output monitor. I have already used my hdmi port so i thought the hp usb-c to hdmi adapter would work for my laptop since there was no software or drivers needed. Anyays, it is not working. everytime i plug in the display adapter, it says the connection may not work, try another cable. I have tried several hdmi cables, and even the adapter by itself. Is my laptop not compatible? i have also tried a few different display drivers for my laptop. When looking into the device manager, is shows up as a usb adapter but with error. I'm thinking that  my port is only meant to give output and not input. If so, what are other alternatives to output to two monitors..

I have a U510 with the useless mini-VGA and no adapter has worked for that, so now I am looking for a good HDMI to VGA adapter. What is a good one for under $40? (Online or at Best Buy, RadioShack, or Staples)Thanks!

Answer:The best HDMI to VGA adapter

There's no such thing as a HDMI to VGA adapter. HDMI is purely digital signal, while VGA is pure analog signal. You'd have to get a converter that not only could change the shape of connector, but also decode digital sitnal and encode is as analog one. I don't even know if anybody makes such a thing. Why would you use VGA anyway? HDMI is superior in quality and functionality. VGA is susceptible to e-m noise too.EDIT: Ok I did look it up, and there are HDMI to VGA converters. I must admit I'm surprised. Still, I'd avoid it if possible. If you do need it, I can't recommend one as I never used one, but maybe using the one you can get from Lenovo might be a good idea?http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...

I wonder if there are any external HDMI adapters or converters. I guess VGA isn't the best thing to convert from since it's analog.

Are there any USB-to-HDMI or ExpressCard-to-HDMI adapters? Do such things exist?

I have a 24" DVI monitor but I only have a computer with a VGA and HDMI port. Will using a dvi to HDMI adapter work or is there another solution.

Answer:dvi to hdmi adapter

Generally, using a DVI to HDMI should be fine, although you should note you will not get any sound from the DVI itself. It really just depends on what screen you have, and how compatible it is. For example, on my old computer, all I had was a DVI and VGA. Because my TV was off-brand (all it had was 3 HDMIs), it wasn't able to decode the converted DVI to HDMI and thus wouldn't display anything. But for an actual computer monitor, you should be OK.

Having said that, there are two types, active and passive. The type you get will depend on your configuration. For a three monitor configuration, for example, you will want an active converter.

When I switch between my home and work docking stations, the external monitor flickers.  I have tried what is recommended in this link:
www.dell.com/.../EN
But I don't have it plugged to the display port.  Both monitors are connected via DVI.  When I restart my computer there are no problems.  Only when I come out of sleep mode when changing docks.  The external monitors are different.  Both dells.    Video card driver is up to date.  Bios is up to date. The video card is Intel HD graphics 520 (driver 20.19.15.4531).  Display is Dell E2414H.  The dock is PR02X  F310C A03.  I have changed the monitor settings from auto detect to DVI input.   Also I disabled DDC/CI.
I believe this is a video card driver issue although it could be bios related.

Hi, I own a W510 updated with the latest lenovo drivers. The problem I have is that when I use an external monitor connected via the VGA port I see horizontal lines moving across the screen, which I can only describe as flicker. I've seen this with two 22" 16:9 monitors already - one Lenovo and one Packard Bell. With the Lenovo monitor I see that in the NVIDIA Control Center the refresh rate is set to 59 with options 60 and 75 available. With 75 the flicker is still there but not that apparent. I can't set to 60 because it automatically reverts to 59. If I however connect the same monitor via the DisplayPort to DVI connector there is no flicker and the refresh rate is set to 60. With a third Lenovo screen, which is I think 15 inch 4:3 I don't see any flicker. Do I have a defective VGA port? Is this a driver issue? Should I contact support?

Hi,I bought two XPS-13 laptops which were both pre-installed with windows. I have since partitioned and installed Ubuntu on both. One of the laptops had persistent wifi issues disconnection issues. The wifi on the problematic machine was also unreliable at resuming from suspend, and had poor range. I was also seeing many PCIe bus errors in dmesg.
In an attempt to get some stability, I tried everything, from firmware, bios kernel versions, kernel/module parameters. In the end I decided to replace the wifi card with an Intel 8265, which has worked flawlessly since installation. One thing I did find while removing the killer card, which could be related to the poor range, was that the tension in one of the antenna coaxes had detached the barrel of the connector from the killer wifi card. the card was also not installed squarely within the pci express socket.
As for the other laptop, which has exactly the same operating system configuration; the wifi hasn't had any problems whatsoever.
So I think it is just "luck of the draw", my guess is that a certain batch of the killer cards have a poor manufacturing yield.

Craig

Since maybe a month or so my dell xps 13 (9360) has been unable to find my phone (OnePlus 5), my mouse (Logitech mx anywhere 2) and my headphones (Sony WH-1000XM2). When I first received my device I could connect my mouse , but now it refuses to be detected by windows 10 even though it is in pairing mode, the same issue has arisen for my phone and headphones.

I have tried
- Reinstalling the latest drivers
- Restarting windows services
- Reinstalling the entire OS (win 10)
- Drain the battery
- Reset the bios

So far no dice :(

If anyone has other suggestions, thanks in advance.

Answer:Bluetooth not finding any of my other devices (killer 1535) (xps 13 9360) (7th gen cpu)

If you reinstall the entire OS, how did you do so.  A clean install using just Win 10 media or did you reset somehow?
Have you installed any Dell Drivers?
There was a recent Win 10 update which was supposed to deal with certain devices not bonding ..(KB4054517)
Since you replaced the OS, that overrides any suggestion to reinstall the drivers but make sure the drivers for both the Wireless adapter and Bluetooth are showing the correct driver version.

I have a Windows 10 hp laptop and a Cable Matters HDMI to VGA adapter. I usually plug my laptop to an HD TV but am having to do this for a while.
I understand this can be tricky, as hdmi to VGA is digital to analog conversion. I got it working yesterday after plenty of fight, not in display options but windows key + p and selected extend. When done working I closed my laptop lid. Since then it has not worked. Can any you help?
I'll tell you what I've done and what it's doing. Now, Windows does indeed think it's connected to an external monitor. Everything about windows says so - there's two icons in display. I can move things to other monitor. But, the monitor doesn't agree. It's blinking in standby.
If I unplug VGA from monitor, it realizes it. If I unplug adapter from Windows, it realizes it. But there's still a gap and I can't find the answer.
I've restarted, shut down, combinations of those with plugging in adapter before / after, I've deleted generic display from device manager, tried a different monitor, and other various "windows nudges" I call em. Went to manufacturer's site, not any help there. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, so here's the problem, I bought a brand new graphics card today, the problem is my monitor only has a VGA slot in it and the graphics card has HDMI and DVI. So I looked for the HDMI to VGA converter I had and used that, it was working well for awhile, no display issues at all, and then after awhile my monitor lost signal and this annoying high pitched ringing noise started, it seems to be coming from the adapter since everytime I unplug it and plug it back in, everything would work perfectly for awhile and then the same problem would start all over again. I tried using our TV directly and the problem doesn't occur with it. Is it advisable for me to buy a new HDMI to VGA adapter or is that a waste of money?

Hi, so I have an E 530 with a GT 630M which I occasionally use for a bit of FIFA. The game runs great but when I connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI the resolution and performance completely mess up. I checked the display settings and that shows the Intel 3000 integrated card as the display adapter instead of the dedicated 630M I've set to default for the game with no way to change it. Is the HDMI only capable of utilising the 3000? I've tried both the latest Nvidia and Lenovo drivers to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be or what I should do to fix it?
Thanks!

Hi, We have bought 4 different brands of USB-C adapters - All with 2 X USBs + HDMI. The USBs on the adapter works fine but not the HDMI when plugged into USB-C port of HP EliteBook 850 G3.  None of the adapters are faulty as we have tested it on Dell USB-C port and HDMI works fine. Any suggestions what could be wrong?

I have an IPAD mini and bought an adapter that lets me attach it to an HDMI cable and to a TV. When I try to watch TNT it will show the ads, but when the actual show comes up the TV screen goes blank. I still get sound, but no picture. I have the "Watch TNT" application that I use to watch the shows, and it works fine on the IPAD but not on the TV. Any thoughts?

I have 2 TVs currently serving as my screens. I've lately been helping family and friends fix small issues on their computers. I've come across a few PCs that have only a VGA Display Port, while both of my screens only have HDMI ports.
I asked someone at a local parts store, if a wire that is VGA male one side and HDMI male the other, would do the job. He told me in long detail why that would never work, that I needed a signal converter to change the display signal.
Basically he said when adapting a VGA screen to a HDMI port was possible, and the reverse (HDMI screen to VGA port in pc) is not.

My question is, if I bought the cord linked below, would I have to do anything else other than just plugging it in? Or do I indeed need this converter I was told about?

Thanks in advance

Answer:VGA to HDMI Display Adapter

You will need a signal converter of some type. A simple wire cable with different connectors on each end will not work. A VGA output has three analog video signals. An HDMI input expects all digital signals.

Not too long ago, I bought a VGA to HDMI converter to connect my laptop to my TV, but I wasn't able to get it to work, and the tech support guy I talked to from Monoprice's chat suggested it was probably incompatible with my TV, so I had it returned, and then I bought this on the recommend of the same guy: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p..._id=1011403&p_id=8079&seq=1&format=2&rep=mike

But the problem is, I hooked it up, installed the drivers, and still I'm not getting any picture on my TV screen. I have the input set to the correct station. Everything's installed correctly. And I even reinstalled the drivers from the website of the company that produces the adapter. Still nothing.

Do you guys have any ideas? Because I've spent a lot of time trying to get this to work, and I'm not having any luck. I've asked on a couple different places, and I haven't had much luck there, either. If anyone here can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

I currently found out that my TV supports 1080p.
However, it only works when HDMI is plugged in. And my card only has DVI output. And i was wondering, will the 1080p work with a DVI to HDMI adapter then?

Thanks,
Alex.

I recently ordered the Lenovo Y550 and I was just wondering about using the HDMI to connect to a monitor using a DVI adapter. The question is if I will still be able to use the laptop speakers or the headphone jack to connect to external speakers for audio. Or will the computer automatically shut them off thinking that audio is already being transmitted through the HDMI out?

Hello:

I'm really hoping someone here has experience with this issue and can help me. I have a 37" Philips CRT TV which I have connected to my computer so that I can watch videos on it. I have been using it with an older laptop that has S-video output and it has been working perfectly. Recently I upgraded my computer and my two modern graphics cards do not support S-video, only DVI or HDMI. I have been using an HDMI to composite adapter with no issues except that I had to adjust the screen size to make it fit. However, the image quality is pretty bad, so I just purchased an HDMI to component adapter. I am able to make it work by setting the resolution to 480i, but when I attempt to resize the screen, the image becomes distorted beyond recognition. I really need to adjust the screen size because the edges of the screen are cut off. I have tried changing the resolution, but it doesn't work unless it's set to the default 480i resolution. I have also tried a VGA to component adapter (with a DVI to VGA adapter) and that didn't work at all. I really hope I can make this work so that I can use component instead of composite. The only other option I can think of is to install a third graphics card that supports S-video, but I'm not sure I could find one that is compatible with Windows 7.

If you're wondering why I don't just get an HDTV, it's because I play a lot of classic video game consoles that look best on my old CRT TV. I'm ver... Read more

I've purchased a Dell XPS 13 9360 and I've had problems with the video flickering.  It happens about every 5-10 minutes for about 5 seconds.
I've spent probably 30-40 hours trying to resolve the issue and I'm pretty fed up with it over the last 2-3 months.  I didn't notice it enough to decide ultimately to get my money back but it is too late.

I've run the diagnostic tool, and it apparently failed.  A technician was sent to my house to replace a part of the computer not related to video, and the part was refurbished.  I declined opening the device up and wanted to get my money back.  Apparently this test always fails unless the computer is plugged in apparently.  I found this out after the technician left...good I didn't let him replace a non-related part!
I've realized my 30 day return window has passed.  Gulp! That's after spending a few hours here and there trying to resolve the issue. Now I have a machine with an issue that is going to take plenty of hours to diagnose.
I've updated the BIOS, updated the Video drivers, to no avail.  I've now engaged Dell Chat support, who has stepped me through the entire process of doing this all over again.
At this point, I've asked for an escalation.  Normally this has been easy in the past, but I'm being forced to step through a repeat of the troubleshooting process which I've already accomplished
At the end of the day, I'm serious... Read more

I got my brand new XPS 13 9360 a few days ago and I experience a very strange phenomenon : randomly, I get the whole screen flicker/flash to black very quickly once or a few times in a row. Then it doesn't flicker for a long time : it seems to happen 1 to 3 times in an evening for example.
Do you experience such a phenomenon ? I've tried tweaking the settings of the video driver but it didn't change anything. I'm not sure but the problem may have started when I upgraded the BIOS from 1.0.7 to 1.2.3 on the 14th of December.
Please help, I don't know if I should send it back or ask for a motherboard or screen swap.

Answer:XPS 13 9360 QHD+ random screen flicker/flash

You're not alone! I'm experiencing the exact same issue on my XPS 13 9360 (QHD/i7 7500u/16gb ram/512gb) which I received last Monday. With mine, It seems to start happening after around 30 mins of use, either from a cold boot or coming from sleep.
I too believe that it started happening after updating to 1.2.3 BIOS. Unfortunately it is not possible to rollback to 1.0.7 so there's no way to be certain. I've tried the latest video driver from Intel as well as the version listed on Dell's site but the issue remains...

Hi!My Fujitsu Siemens Scaleoview T19-1's power adapter does not work properly (the screen stays black, the light next to the ON button flickers etc.). There are some ways to make it work, but these sollutions are not so safe, so I decided to get a new one.It would be really hard to get an exact same one, since it's an old model, but I wondered if it could be replaced with a universal notebook power adapter? For example the TRUST 16665 65W seems suitable. What do you think?Additional question: I have heard that that if you plug out and in these adapters every day it's reduces their lifetime. It does not seem very logical, but I wonder what the experts think, since I can not think of any other reason why could it broke.

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7568 laptop that is less than a week old. I also purchased a Dell HDMI to VGA adapter so that I can use an external monitor with a VGA input as a 2nd screen.
Whenever I connect to the external monitor my laptop screen, not my external monitor screen, flickers a couple of times a minute. I have checked all the connections of the adapter and VGA port and they seem fine. It appears there is a problem that is encountered when I plug in the external monitor that causes the laptop screen to flicker occasionally.
If anyone has any suggestions to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

When I connect my Dell XPS 13 9350 laptop with QHD display to an external monitor through the DA200 USB-C to HDMI connector the external monitors flicker constantly (laptop is fine-no flickering). Sometimes it works for like an hour then starts to flicker or longer so its not consistent. Below are the troubleshooting steps Dell has walked me through (including sending me a new DA200 part) to no avail:
- Dell has sent me a new DA200 USB C to HDMI part
- They have upgraded the Thunderbolt drivers and all other relevant drivers to latest ones (as of June 15 2016)
- I have tried on different monitors (5-6) and tried different HDMI cables.
Dell doesnt seem to know what to do now. THey have refunded my DA200 part purchase and told me to buy a separate HDMI to USB-C cable to test. If that fails it seems they will replace the motherboard. They say it could be an issue with the external monitors not being compatible with QHD, but this is not documented anywhere (they admit) and I havent heard anyone else having this problem on the internet and surprised every single person using this setup has QHD external monitors. This is an unworkable situation for me as I work in PC labs all day connected to external monitors.
Any advice?

Hi, I recently bought a 22" LG Flatron Monitor and a Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop and have a flicker happening on the LG monitor whenever the laptop is plugged into an outlet. The flicker immediately goes away when the laptop is running off of battery power. The resolution is on the native 1920x1080 and refresh rate is 60Hz (can't change it). I have had this problem before with a HP laptop and BenQ monitor. The problem only happens to me at work (not at home), so I believe that is has to do with electrical noise on the circuit at this particular location. Anyone know of ways to get rid of or filter this noise to eliminate the flicker?
Thanks

I recently purchased an XPS 15 9550 with i7, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, and GTX 960m dGPU that I have connected to a 27-inch QNIX qx2710 2560x1440p external monitor. I have this connected through a Cable Matters USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to DVI-D adapter and cable.
The monitor and everything seem to work fine at 60hz, except for every time I unplug, turn on, or restart the monitor/computer the first five or ten minutes of use is plagued with constant screen flickering and flashing. After ~five minutes the monitor seems to stabilize and will only rarely have a single screen flicker.
I have read other forum threads describing similar issues with different monitors/cable setups and that there is likely an issue between the wifi card and thunderbolt port. The common recommendation is to turn down the wifi output percent to 75%, however the Killer wifi card on this computer does not have an option under advanced settings to turn down the power output. Has anyone had any luck doing this on a recently purchased XPS 15 with the Killer wifi card?
The cables and adapters are new and the BIOS and all drivers are up to date. Other than the wifi issue, does anyone have suggestions or solutions to this screen flickering problem?

I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running Win 7 Professional (64-bit). I have it connected to an external monitor. Whether I choose "projector" or the option to show on both screens, the monitor on the laptop will flicker. Here's more specific information that may be helpful:

The laptop and a desktop are both connected to a KVM switch. I set the laptop to "projector" mode so that it will, of course, project on to the main monitor. When I am accessing the laptop via the KVM switch, I see its display on the main monitor just fine. However, if I switch to the desktop, the laptop screen will intermittently come on and off. This happens over and over. That is what I describe as the "flickering." It's very annoying as I work from home and each time the laptop screen goes off and on, I hear a beep in my headset.

The laptop uses Intel HD graphics. The driver date is 01/30/2013 and version is 8.15.10.2993. The laptop resolution is set to 1024 x 768 with a refresh rate of 60. Windows does not find a newer version of the graphics driver when doing a search. The laptop will also give this message when flickering:

Optimal Resolution Notification
This is not the optimal display resolution for the primary display device. The optimal resolution is 1280 x 800. Click this notification for more information.

Keep in mind this ONLY happens when the laptop is NOT being accessed on the main monitor on the KVM switch. If it is, its screen does NOT flicker.... Read more

I'm trying to find the datasheet or technical specs for USB-C to HDMI (P7Z55AA). I would like to know if this adapter can work from a DVR (security cameras)
I have a 15m VGA cable running from the DVR to a TV, but the VGA port of the TV got lightning damage and now I want to use it's HDMI port, which is undamaged. I found this on ebay: click here
If this one will work, would it need to be powered via it's USB cable ? If yes, can I power it from my computer which is 1meter from the TV ?
Thanks in advance for usable advise.

I have tried two different USB 3.0 to HDMI adapters on my XPS 12 (touchscreen) laptop; one never worked and the other worked one time. I recently upgraded to Win 10 (and the XPS works fine!). There was a recommendation on Amazon for a Startech adapter, but when I looked at the reviews, one posted about problems with touchscreen computers.
Does anyone have a recommendation for an adapter that will work with my XPS?
