Dell Inspiron One All-in-one computer sound is awful

Question: Dell Inspiron One All-in-one computer sound is awful

I just received this computer in the last couple of weeks. The bass and lower end frequencies sound really really bad on this system. I thought it was a problem with the internal speakers but I just tried a set of tried and true external speakers and they sound exactly the same. Mid and upper range frequencies are nice and clear but anything low sound muffled and clipped. I've played with all the various settings and tried different EQ settings - nothing. Anyone else have this issue and know a fix?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Inspiron One All-in-one computer sound is awful

That is unusual. The sound out of the audio jacks should not be affected by any internal processing unless you specifically enable it. Here are a couple of things to try.
1) Disable all of the THX sound features. You have to disable them all one by one. See if that changes the sound output
2) Disable all Realtek sound effects in their control panel (EQ, reverbs). See if that changes anything.
3) Finally, disable al audio enhancements in the Windows audio control panels. This can be done by right clicking on the Windows speaker in systray, select Playback devices, double click on the Speakers or Line Out/Headphone Out bar in the list, select the Enhancements tab, and click on the "Disable all enhancements." NOTE: this is very literal. It will disable all of the audio effects on that output device including the two items listed above. It basically forces the driver to stop doing any extra stuff it was doing before.
If you do resort to step 3, you will need to be careful with playing back audio on the internal speakers. Sometimes there are Equalization and filter settings to help protect the speakers inside the system.

Hello all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop that I bought about a month ago.  When I hook it up to my external speakers and start up a game such as WoW, the sound that comes out of the speakers sounds awful... like it's a way lower bitrate than it shoudl be, missing depth and fullness... almost as if it were coming out of one of those old pc speakers.
If I unplug the speakers, let the OS realize they were disconnected, then plug them back in again, it works fine.
Anyone see this before?

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 (3147, Mid 2014) makes crackling sound whenever sound is played

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

I purchased my computer and all my software with Dell. I purchased an Inspiron 7000, 17" Laptop, with premium support, accidental Damage, max warranty,  Microsoft Office Suit, and Adobe Photoshop  with Elements 13.  The first "version" of my computer was working 100% perfect with no problems. It got accidentally knocked off the table and the prong inside the computer got bent. The power cord couldn't properly charge the computer anymore. I called Dell to have them fix ONLY the power cord and prong, nothing else was wrong with my computer. I got a phone call from Dell about a week after I turned my computer in. They said the repair is taking longer than the expected. I asked why, they said because they are waiting to located at another facility a part for my harddrive.  I was shocked when they said anything about my harddrive nothing was wrong with it and I did not turn my computer in to have the harddrive fixed. They brushed it off never gave me any reason why they were even touching my harddrive!!  After several phone calls/ time / and headache later they offered to send me a refurbished computer 2 months later. That was the best they could do because they could not locate the part they needed for my harddrive.
(Keep in mind my computer "type" is still active on Dells website and is Dells #1 best selling computer, How do they not have the part??!!!
I received my refurbished computer. It was another nightmare calling... Read more

while listening to a mp3 from a music web site, i had inadvertently gotten my leg caught
in my lap top speakers and pulled out the jack . When I hooked them back up I was unable to get the right speaker to work unless I played with the jack.

I unhooked the speakers thinking I could still listen via the built in speakers.

I now have no sound! What would have caused this? Do you think a wire is loose ? all the controls show the volume up and the mute is off.

Any thoughts help ideas many thanks

I have had my dell for approx 3 years now and the other day my sound suddenly stopped working (no sound from ear plugs either). I restarted the computer and it made no difference. I can't play any sounds (no sound when the comp turns on, no sound on itunes, "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration,"Youtube etc etc you get the picture.

I found some solutions online but none of the settings seem to have changed when I attempted to change them. So I went into safe mode and the speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner has a cross on it indicating that there is no sound (there was nothing of the sort when i wasn't in safe mode) I looked for solutions online and went into Services > Windows Audio to press START and the following came up "Windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start."

I have also tried system restore, but am unable to do so and the following appears "No restore systems have been created on your computer's system disk."

Please someone help, thank you in advance

The first thing I would recommend would be go to dell's site and download the audio drivers for your machine

make sure to download the right one for your operating system (vista, 7 or xp)
install them and see if that fixes the issue

I have an Inspiron 660 desktop that I bought about 3.5 years ago. I updated to Windows 10 and have recently started using a Dell U2415 UltraSharp Monitor. The sound bar was working well with the new monitor and desktop until about a week ago I noticed the sound started getting low, then completely out, then came back on like normal.  It worked fine for the last week, then it started doing it again today and now completely no sound.  I have tried headphones and two different Dell sound bars and the sound doesn't work on any of them.  I have looked at settings and device manager and it says the 'Intel (R) Display Audio' is working correctly.
I have looked at different solutions, including downloaded the latest audio (Conexant Smart Audio Driver) and chip driver updates (12/15) and still no luck.  Can someone please help?

I'm working on an inspiron 6000 and it doesn't have audio. I reinstalled the audio drivers (sigmatel STAC 975X AC97) and it worked fine. Sent the customer home with it fixed. She called an hour later and said there is no sound. I confirmed with her that it wasn't muted or something dumb like that. She brings it back and sure enough there is no audio. The device shows up in device manager like it should, no yellow ? or anything like that. I re-reinstalled the audio driver again and it worked fine......until i did a reboot.

Any Ideas why it seems to fail over and over after reboots???

Now, this proves to be an elusive solution. Even when I first had to worry about this back about a year ago. Unfortunately I cannot find the answer anymore.

I was unfortunately put into a situation in which I had to get Vista on my computer (I for some reason didn't even think to set up a dual-partition) which is the Inspiron 6000 by Dell. With the Sigmatel C-Major Audio card there don't seem to be any primary drivers that work with Vista. I know there is a third party one out there somewhere, however I have had no luck. Does anyone happen to have a solution to this? It is driving me mad.

Answer:No sound on Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop help

I have had similar problems. First things is older laptops will be slower and the clock rates inside are slower and the software is getting mor demanding on speed.I would recommend reinstalling XP (I assume it's this) to clean everything out). You should have the DELL discs, if not get them from DELL. Make sure you extract all Keys from the laptop first so the reinstall is legit and you can get all the updates (SP3 etc).If you don't want to do that get the audio driver from DELL (that's what I did on the same laptop some time ago).I would not think the laptop can be upgraded to Vista (too slow) but you may consider Ubuntu as an alternative (may not be quicker but just a thought).Google your problems and you should get answers for a common laptop such as that one.

Can anyone help here?

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 back in September. Runs on Vista.

A few weeks ago, I began noticing a crackling sound that was coming from the top left hand corner of the keyboard section of the laptop, right near where the 'Inspiron' logo is. It doesn't usually start until I've had the computer running for 30 minutes or so.

I called Dell and shipped the computer to their facility since it's still under warranty. They sent it back saying that they could not detect any problem with any of the hardware and therefore, did not fix anything. Sure enough, after getting it back and turning it on and being on it for 30 minutes or so, the sound is still there.

Everything about the computer works fine...the Internet, my progams. It isn't slow or anything. But this sound just doesn't sound right.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Could it be an issue with the laptop's fans? If so, aren't the fans considered to be part of the hardware?

Thanks for any light anyone may be able to shed on this issue.

- Brian

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 i7-4510U, 16.6" Touch. It had Windows 8.1 in it.
It has been working great so far, apart from one BIG problem - the audio playback quality is terrible.
When I try listening to music, I can barely hear any low-ends (or bass). I tried different plugging different equipment - my Sony stereo system, as well as, Beats Pro headphones - both yielded dissapointing results. For example, the same file played on my iPod sounds MUCH better than it does on my new Dell Inspiron. Same goes for playing the same YouTube video on another computer using the same headphones. It seems that every other equipment (another laptop, iPod, iPhone) all sound the same and much better my Inspiron.
The audio drivers are up to date (they were selected automatically based on my model on dell.com). I also tried changing Equalizers on the Realtek sound card settings. I noticed the difference, but all of the options still resulted in a vastly inferior sound quality vs. my older laptop (which I'm pretty sure has default settings, as I never had any problem with audio quality).
Does anyone have any idea how can I fix the issue? I heard Windows 8.1 on some laptops may have some problems with low-end sound, could that be the case? My older laptop also uses Windows 8.1, as does the stationary PC, so I personally doubt it. Is it possible that this could be a manufacturing defect on the sound card?
Any ideas how can I fix the sound quality are much ... Read more

Answer:Bad sound quality - Dell Inspiron 15 77537

Hello. Try switching to the Windows native audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]
If there is still no bass then it could be a hardware problem and for that you should contact tech support. Make sure that the eq in your music player (i.e. Windows Media Player) is set to normal. Also when comparing to other playback devices, all of their eq and other enhancements should be set to flat, to try to compare apples to apples as much as possible.

I have brand new a Dell Inspiron 7559 (Core i5 model) which i received 2 days ago.  The inbuilt speakers work fine. But when I plug in my earphones, the is sound only on the left side and a very faint sound on the right one. Gasp, I know, I know, A problem with a Dell computer/laptop, can you believe it!? Sigh.

Anyway, I discovered the problem this evening (it's 1am in the morning here, Christmas day, but I refuse to rest until I can reach a conclusion on the problem - how sad!). I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop. I folded the lid down while the laptop was still running, then when I picked the laptop up again and tried to play music, there was no sound. None atall. No sound from Windows Media, no system sounds, nothing. When I plug the headphones in all I get is a fuzzing noise with an occasional feint bleep.

Ive gone through XP's 'troubleshooting' thing: there is no conflicts or anything like that, all the hardware is there. I had no problems with sound prior to this evening.

I know it's vague, but thats pretty much the gist of it. I cant think of any reason why the sound has just...stopped working. My only guess is that the machine has taken a bump and somethings become dislodged internally or something, because I cant find fault with any hardware. But I know comparitively little about computers.

I will ring dell in a few days time as I should imagine their officers will be closed, so until then, Id just like a second opinion if possible.

Edit/Update:

Well...

I turned the laptop off for the night. Then remembered I needed to transfer some files over onto my other PC (music files etc.), then suddenly the sound came back on my laptop!

Answer:Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10

Warning to anyone reading this thread:
Make sure you know your model name before installing a driver!
The subject of this thread is "Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10". The problem is that there is no model with that exact name. There is an Inspiron 15 N5010, and an Inspiron 15R N5110.
They are different models and use different drivers. In other words, the audio driver for the N5010 is not meant for the N5110, and vice versa.
To complicate matters, somebody named aimeehuang posted in this thread and put in a link named "dell 15r n5010 drivers download". But if you click on the link it goes to a page for Inspiron 15R N5110.The person named "aimeehuang" is not a regular on this discussion board and probably got the model names confused.
Check your model name. If you have an Inspiron 15 N5010, use the IDT R280657 audio driver. It is meant for Win7, so install it into Win10 using compatibility mode (instructions below).
If you have an Inspiron 15R N5110, use the IDT 6.10.0.6421 audio driver. It is meant for Windows 8. It might install without a problem into Win10, but if there is a problem, install it using compatibility mode (instructions below).
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive..2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write... Read more

I have an N5110 Inspiron. I bought it around 6 years ago. It had a faulty HDD so I had it replaced about 5.5 years ago. It has been working fine since then.
However, it has been making a weird clicking sound from the beginning. It usually occurs when the HDD is idle (the HDD led isn't on). Sometimes it doesn't happen for minutes whereas other times it happens a couple of seconds apart. I was wondering what could this be?
My laptop is getting quite old and currently, I cannot replace it so I want to keep it functional as long as possible. Could this clicking reduce the life-expectancy of my HDD, is it a sign of something faulty? If yes, what can I do to prevent an HDD failure and losing all my files?

Answer:Dell N5110 Inspiron HDD clicking sound

They don't call it click death for nothing.  The drive is trying to recalibrate track zero and isnt finding it. So the drive is likely to die very soon and lose everything.  Drives die, this isn't a fault anymore than the brakes on your car or other mechanical things like tires wearing out from use.

Hi guys,

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, service pack 3.

Up until Monday, my sound was working fine. Now I simply can't get any sound out of my laptop whatsoever!

I am wondering whether someone has somehow changed settings or volumes I don't know about so if anyone can suggest anywhere to look I'd appreciate it.

I know my soundcard AND speakers are fine. I checked my Device Manager and the device is fine. I also ran a diagnostics check at startup.. as in the F12 key and checked the sound.. I heard a few melodies, clicked the 'yes' I can hear button and the test was complete..

So why, when I turn on my laptop and play a song/video/etc.. can I not hear a single sound?

Obviously, my laptops general settings are not muted.. I have checked.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have a 3520 that was upgraded to Windows 10.  It was giving just 3 beeps on post and nothing else.  I replaced the system board as per Dell, and now it boots up but the right speaker is silent.  The left one works fine though.  I tried headphones and they work normally with sound out of both sides.  I replaced the speakers but it did no good, same issue.  I checked all the audio settings and they are correct.  Any ideas?

Hi, I recently bought a new Dell Inspiron 6400 about 2 months ago.

For the past few days,I've been getting sound only on the left laptop speaker. It is not permanent, it is intermittent and the sound on the right still works, but it keeps switching on and off. There is no disturbance in quality.

I've checked my driver (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC) and there are no updates for it.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Basic.

Anyone have any idea what this is caused by? Have I damaged something?

Thanks

Hi,
In this case the system is working as per design. When the headphone's are plugged in the systems ask's you which is the device you chose for audio output. In this case check if the headphone's are selected as the primary device for audio output then this could be the situation.
Hoping this helps.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop with Windows Vista Basic.  Today after plugging in a headphone set both the speaker and the headphone sound stopped working.  I have not changed any audio settings but checked them anyway and nothing was turned off or muted that I could see.  I have tried downloading and re-installing the audio drivers from the Dell support site but when I go to install them I get an error message saying that 'This is not the correct audio driver for this system. The installer will now exit.'
Any suggestions to get the sound working again?

Try using System Restore. Try running the Dell Diagnostics audio tests to rule out hardware failure. See the "No Audio" FAQ for details.

I've had my Dell Inspiron 24-7459 computer for about a month.  Sound was coming from the internal speakers but now the sound no longer works.  I've tried the volume, mute features with no luck.  Should I be trying something different?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 24-7459 has no sound coming from speakers

tiger28the internal speakers
Hello. Did you plug in headphones or external speakers to check whether audio is coming through the headphone jack?
If audio is coming through the jack but not the internal speakers, run the ePSA audio test to see if the speakers have failed.
If there is no audio from either the speakers or jack then the problem is not the speakers, so try reinstalling the audio driver. Open the Device Manager and expand the Sounds...Controllers section. Right click on Realtek HD Audio and select to uninstall. Do not put a check mark in the option to delete the files. When you reboot, Windows will re-install the Realtek driver by rebuilding it from the files. The point of doing that is the rebuilt driver will have the default configuration which will correct any misconfiguration issue.
If that doesn't fix it the next step would be to install a fresh copy of the driver from the support page.

Hi!
I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7567, and yesterday I noticed, that my laptop makes very quiet ticking sound. The sound very similar to HDD's head movement sound, the only problem is, that in my laptop there is no HDD. I use just 2 SSD (1 X M.2 PCI-E x4 [Samsung 960 EVO], and 1 X SATA 3 2.5" [Samsung 850 EVO]). In this model there's no optical drive, so the only mechanical part of this laptop, that coud generate this sound, if it would be mechanical sound, is the fan system. but strangely the ticking sound only hearable when the fans stop spinning.
So I don't think, that the fans would create this sound, because when I can see in AIDA64 that fans speed is 0 RPM, the ticking sound exactly then hearable.
Additionaly strangely, when I unplug the laptop from AC, the ticking sound almost stops (It not stops, but the click sound becomes rare)... After I plug the AC back, the ticking continues...
Do somebody sensed the same? Is it normal? My opinion, that the sound caused by on of the electronical units bad groundings, or something. Although there's no power or other issue with my laptop now, but I don't want to wait until it gets bad...
Thanks!

Hi Guys,
New laptop Dell Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1 was bought in November 2016.
It worked fine during certain period; however, rather weird issue with sound started occurring. It disappears randomly. For example, sound can disappear during Skype call (the main purpose of laptop usage). It disappears almost completely; it is very hard to hear something. In the event of regular Skype call (when sound is present), you can hear your own voice with some extra noise.

Several scenarios were performed:
A.
1) Reinstalled drivers from official Dell website;
2) Unchecked the “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” (speakers -> properties -> advanced)
3) Selected “do nothing” in Sounds -> Communications
4) Driver was changed to Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from Dell website
5) Driver was changed to standard Microsoft one

B.
Reinstalled drivers in different order

C.
1) Reinstalled Windows 10 using the recovery disk from Dell support website
2) Installed drivers according to the “Installation order” section at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-13-5368-2-in-1-laptop/drivers/advanced

Sound disappearing frequency is random, from one week to 1.5 months.
Then sound can appear in one of the following cases:
1)     By itself, without any action
2)     Reboot
3)     Reinstalling audio drivers
4) &nbs... Read more

When an issue is not resolved by re-installing the OS, that is a pretty good indication that the problem is caused by hardware. However, if the issue did not reappear until weeks after the OS reinstallation, then can't tell if it is a software or hardware problem.

In the thread referenced, celtic_mist reported fixing it with the Reaktek 2.81 driver. He linked to a third party site, however that is the driver which is directly available from Realtek's site, if you want to try it.

Hello everyone,

Recently I've restored my Win7 installation using the original install image on the computer.
Since then my sound is not working properly - once every few seconds it jumps and makes weird noises.

I've tried updating the sound card drivers, and/or installing new codecs, but to no avail.
This happens with every music/video file on my computer and also when playing online content. The problem remains with any music/video player (tested WMP, Winamp, VLC, etc...), with speakers or headphones.

A few days ago a friend of mine suggested this might be caused due to a memory issue.
Something about memory paths getting rewired in the wrong way.
I've also noticed that when this happens my mouse pointer is sort of stuck.

If anyone has had this problem and/or knows how to fix it, I'd love to know about it...

Appreciate your help,
Gilad.

Answer:Sound trouble, could be a memory issue? (Dell Inspiron 1545)

When you restored, did you do it with the "F8" Dell Recovery Partition on the hard drive? Or did you do it manually with discs?

One issue we see on the Dell user forum is that the Dell sound driver must be used for proper operation.

Outdated device drivers such as video can also cause this.

The Device status of this is:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
I do not know how to update this with this error and would like some help. I feel that updating that driver will allow me to have the HDMI work with sound.

Hi! my Dell Inspiron 14 5000 series wont turn on. The power light turns on when connected to the power supply. I tried to disconnect the charger, removed the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds. After reconnecting the charger and battery, i tried to turn it on again, but the power light only lasted for 5 seconds and there's no beeping sound. My laptop still wont turn on. What could I possibly do? What could possibly be the problem? My laptop is already out of warranty, how much would it cost if repaired?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 14 5000 series won't turn on and there's no beeping sound

Hi DIVINE GRACE,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
The power light you are referring to that lasts for 5 seconds only - is that the power button led on the system?
http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the service manual and remove the memory modules / HDD and try powering on the machine with adapter only / battery only and check.
Press and hold the end key and plug in the power adapter to power on the system - if it stays on, then you could try a BIOS recovery as listed here - http://bit.ly/29qXPzR - please be advised that this method has not been tested by Dell, however, few other customers have tried this method for different models and were able to recover the system functionality.
If nothing works, I would suspect a motherboard failure. You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

I bought a Inspiron 7569 few days ago and every time I have the headphones connected, there is a clicking/static coming through the headphones.  Tried every suggestion on the internet(BIOS, reinstall driver, making the registry updates).  Pretty certain it's not feedback from my phone as the noise comes through even if my phone is in another room.
Nothing seems to fix the issue.  Could someone with the same issue on this model provide any feedback?

It's as if it doesn't detect the headphones. It says my Realtek audio driver is up-to-date. When I go to manage audio devices, there's only one device listed called "Speakers / Headphones", so I don't know if when I plug my headphones in it's supposed to detect it separately. I've tried multiple headphones, all of which work with other devices. Also, there are two drivers listed under "sound, video, and game controllers". One is Realtek Audio and the other is Intel(R) Display Audio. Should I reinstall them both? This is a new laptop that I got to replace my old laptop which had (different) sound problems, so I'm very frustrated and at my wit's end, help is appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15: Headphones not working, sound comes through speakers when plugged in

First, make sure the headphone cable is fully inserted...
Then you show get a popup to allow you to select the device if you are using a Combined Audio Port.
If you aren't getting the popup, check the task manager to see if on the Startup Tab a Waves MaxxAudio entry is set to enabled.
If you look at the processes tab you should have two entries for Waves, one blue square and one green circle.

Hello everyone,
So for a while now, my laptop has been produced a certain clicking sound from the left side. This clicking sound occurs at a rate of about once every 1-2 minutes and it really varies. Some times I don't hear it or it only occurs once ever 10 minutes.
I did some research as to what it could be and was scared at the results. Some people say this could be due to a failing hard drive (which would be VERY bad), or it could be due to some junk hitting the fan (less serious).
I still have my warranty on this laptop so I would like to know what you guys recommend... Should I sent it in for a hard drive replacement? If I do decide to do this, how will I ensure I get all of my data back? (losing all the current data on this laptop is NOT an option for me).
Since, I'm posted here anyways, I also have another totally unrelated concern about my laptop. Whenever I begin doing something intensive like playing a video game, the left side of my laptop becomes dangerously hot. The fans become very loud and the top left of my laptop starts getting super hot. This always happened to me even after I cranked down the graphics of most games to medium-low. For the specs this laptop provides, I expect that it should handle these games / other high intensity activities better. Is there a known solution to this? Could this also be a hardware issue that could be fixed by replacing the fan or something?
Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say.
Thanks a lot in advance!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 - Dangerous Clicking Sound + Overheating

Warranty or not, Dell isn't responsible for your data.  If you do not have a backup, it's time to make one -- NOW.  Purchase an external hard drive or a flash drive large enough to hold all your data and get the data backed up.  An external hard drive runs well under $100 -- data recovery starts at over $500 and can easily double or triple that.
Once that's done, realize you can't just "send it in for a hard drive replacement".  Dell will only replace a drive if it fails the diagnostic (F12 at powerup).  That's next - run an extended hard drive diagnostic.  This will also test the operation of the fan.
If the system is running hot, thoroughly vacuum out the air vents in the system - if that doesn't solve the problem, it may be necessary to replace the thermal interface material between the CPU and heatsink.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 660 - Sound Blaster Recon 3D PCIe Problem

What is the status of the sound card in the Device Manager? Does it show as working correctly or does it have an error code? If you reinstalled the driver that says Windows is recognizing the sound card. If it wasn't being recognized the drivers would not install.

I found an old Dell Inspiron 530a in my house, it was stored because it didn’t work anymore, so I got in the job of restoring it. I found out the problem was the PSU, so I replaced it and it worked fine for about a week but 2 days ago, the computer froze for almost 2 hours, so I turned off the CPU. After that, the computer does not want to boot, I press the power button on the front of the PC, and it remains in an orange light, and in the inside, there is also another orange light in the Motherboard. The fans start very loudly and don’t stop until I unplug the CPU or I turn it off from the power button. I have tried these “solutions” for what I think is the problem:

Removing the Motherboard battery
Removing the RAM
Disconnecting the 24-pin from the motherboard
Disconnecting everything from the PSU
Switching the jumpers near the batteries

I don’t know what the problem might be, but I am almost sure that the PSU is not, since I bought it with a higher capacity than the original PSU and I have done the tests with a jumper in the 24-pin connector
The new PSU is a  “Coolmax V-500 Series 500W 120mm ATX Power Supply” and everything else are original Inspiron 530a parts.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me

davidspetservices,
Try pressing Fn and escape together and then try the sound buttons and see if they work now. You can also try pressing Fn and F1, F2 and F3 together.
You can also go into the BIOS, hold shift while clicking restart and choose the BIOS.  Under POST behavior look for Fn options.  You can enable Fn and escape as a toggle by checking Fn Lock.  Of leave it unchecked and make sure that Lock Mode Disable/standard is selected should work as media keys.
I will shoot you a friendship request in case you continue to have difficulties.

When I connect the Dell Inspiron N7110 with a HDMI cable to a Sony TV, screen shows but sound is played via the computer only. This is since Windows 10, with Windows 7 + 8 it had some quirks (we always had to switch off sound enhancements first to get it working, but it worked).
This is what I checked/tried:
Device manager: uninstalled both drivers at Audio -input and output, and also System Devices/High Definition Audio Controller, all is reinstalled after a reset
Display adapters: there are 2. Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M. Removed the Intel driver, which is reinstalled after a reset.
Also tried to switch off each; switching off the Intel does not change anything; switching off the NVidia stops displaying the picture on the TV as well.
It does not matter if the display is on the TV only or stretched on laptop + TV (2 screens). I can however not duplicate the screen - this does not show anything on TV when chosen.
 One remarkable thing:
On starting the NVidia installation program, it DOES show correctly HDMI: SONY TV XV . You can then press a button from there which opens the Windows Sound configuration screen where it only shows the icon of the internal speakers (yes right mouse option Show Disabled devices and Show Disconnected devices are both checked).

The problem can not be the HDMI cable. I've connected several other brands of laptops and they all work. Basically, as soon as I connect the HDMI cable, the SONY TV icon appears as a... Read more

Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron N5110 i5 processor laptop with 4 GB RAM and 500 GB hard disk. Its getting 14 months since I bought it.From the last few days, I could see that the machine makes beep sound on start up till the windows starts. The sound gets disappeared after OS starts. Especially if I turn on the lap from hibernation mode, some time rebooting also make the beep sound. However, I observed a similar low tone inside the system even when the machine is running. I have been using a cooler also to reduce the heat, all keys are working fine no thing is jammed, I have performed the dell H/W diagnostics test all the results were passed. Drivers are all updated, the processor fan i also running correctly. I am wondering what can be the reason.
Please do share your thoughts and suggestions about this issue.

Answer:Continuous beep sound from my Dell inspiron n 5110 laptop on start up ??

I have tried something from another forum that I found, but do not have the link so I cannot copy and paste or give credit to the poster.  This is what I did:
1) Unplug all power from the laptop
2) Remove the battery
3) Hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
4) Reattach the battery and/or plug in the power supply.
5) Power on the laptop.
This solved my problem.

Just started to use my new laptop Dell Inspiron 15 5000 laptop. I realized that something is wrong with the headset port. I have tried to use my earphones and then headphones which the laptop not able to recognized a headset device connected to it. The music sound was still coming out from the laptop speaker and did not switch to the earphones / headphones. (Note: I plugged in them properly.)

Hello. Test the audio driver by switching between the Realtek driver and the Windows native audio driver.1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Then in step 7, if you see 2 "High Definition Audio" devices, select the 2nd one. On some models it is called Intel High definition Audio. If you only have the symptoms with one of the drivers, then the other is at fault. If you have the same symptoms with both audio drivers, then it is very probably not a driver issue.

Does anybody know how to remove this annoying, constant hissing/ringing noise from my dell inspiron 1520 laptop? I remember fixing it before by clicking on a unknown button in my volume properties but its not there anymore.

I've also downloaded that RightMark CPU Clock Utility and it removes it but it keeps shutting down my laptop when it feels like it.

Anybody any other ideas??

Thanks

Answer:Constant ringing/hissing sound coming from my dell inspiron 1520

Hello sconer,
Check in the RightMark options and see if there is an option to disable the sleep/hibernation feature, this could be the cause of the shut downs, also check your power options and in "choose when to turn off display" make sure it is set to never, as for the hissing/ringing noise i would reinstall the sound drivers and see if that helps. good luck.

I recently updated to windows 10 but the Waves Maxx audio is not working properly. It doesn't start automatically at startup (it is not disabled in task manager) and the audio is cracking both in speaker as well as in all my headphones and earphones. I've reinstalled the driver from Dell's official site several times but nothing works. My windows 10 OS is up to date with anniversary update. In device manager all the drivers are installed.

Hi guys!
When I turn off the laptop by using shut down or hibernate there's a loud white noise in the external  active speakers which are connected via audio/jack cable.. Using my old laptop for 5 years, that never happened. What could be the solution to the problem? Aside from turning off the speakers - I always need them on so that I can use them with Chromecast audio connected to Aux-in.

Janos

Hi I have a question about sound.

Over the past few months I've noticed the quality of the sound from my PC has been getting gradually worse. The bass response is getting trippier and the sound is rather fuzzy, with a lot of hissing qualities. Also, I have to constantly adjust the balance to get it to sound good.

My speakers are the Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000 Digital speakers (the old kind, not the new ones). I've had them since 1999, so could it be possible that they're getting old and falling apart somehow?

Also, would there be a way to test to see if it's a problem with my sound card itself? (which is an Audigy Gamer by the way)

Thanks

Answer:Awful sound distortion

try your speakers on another computer, that should tell you if its bad speakers or a bad soundcard

Several weeks ago my laptop stopped producing sound. I have investigated multiple options and am wondering if there have been any recent known bugs in lost sound, due to upgrades or something else that caused problems for others. I have tried the following:

- double-checking all the keyboard "F" function keys
- using Dell's trouble-shooting tools and instructions, which tell me the sound components are in good order
- updating drivers/removing and re-installing drivers
- using Windows' and control panel's trouble-shooting tools
- altering the sound "theme" offered by Windows
- adjusted the volume settings on my laptop

My laptop has IDT High Definition Audio CODEC as the default sound device. I don't use plug-in speakers or headphones.

I haven't dropped, jarred or otherwise damaged the laptop.

However, over the past several weeks I have:

- installed ERUNT as an emergency recovery utility (I receive error messages when I log on, so I think this utility is not working properly, but I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it or remove it)
- installed suggested Windows updates
- installed MS Office updates
- regularly run Spybot and Spyhunter in addition to Malwarebytes

I noticed that my browser is slow and often locking up. I have to go into the Task Manager to get things moving again. I wonder if this is caused by script problems - Java, Shockwave? Could one of these be affecting my sound?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. It's driving me crazy not... Read more

Hello,

Thank you so much for having this great forum on the internet! If you can solve this problem I will be really happy.

Computer / Driver specs below.

PROBLEM: When I play midi sounds its very choppy. Sounds in games are ok but after 1/2 hour or so can become choppy and sound needs to be stopped and restarted. When playing WMAs WMVs or MP3s sound can become choppy after 1/2 hour and only resolution is to stop sound from playing and trying to restart application and continue from where I left off.

This began a year and a half ago so no way to pinpoint now what cause was.

NOTE:
1. I do not experience this when I play a CD on my computer.
2. Also note that when I use tunebite which passes audio through my sound card and recaptures and saves it in a different form there are no issues either. I have recorded over an hour of pristine sound with no choppyness and played this sound on an mp3 player.

I suspect that I am having a hardware issue with my dell sound card but I need a way to prove that I am not experiencing an issue with driver conflicts on my computer. I wish I could download and run a diagnostic test to find out at which level the sound is being corrupted.

I have made a detailed image map attached with all information pertaining to my sound drivers.

I shown my Laptop to a Mechanic also and he said speakers are ok. So the problem is with Software but yet I am not sure about where is this problem in Software or Hardware? I have also done diagnostic test but everything fine in Test. Please help me with this problem, I am unable to listen music and watch movies. Your Help will be highly appreciated.

Hi, first visit to this forum, hopefully someone can help.

Well, I've had this ASUS K54C laptop for just a couple of weeks. I can easily take it back to PC World and they'd probably replace it with another one, but they'd first take it away which would probably leave me without a laptop for a couple of weeks, so ideally I'd like to avoid that if this is a simple fix such as an incorrect driver for this model.

Basically (and, in fact, ever since I bought it) the sound is terrible. Makes no difference whether using the laptop's own inbuilt speakers or my nice Sennheiser headphones, as soon as you approach about 40% it becomes fuzzy and any louder and it's barely audible.

According to DxDiag, the speakers are using a driver called RTKVHD64.sys, Version 6.00.001.6454, and says that there are no problems.

I haven't added any hardware or drivers since buying the PC from PC World here in the UK. As I said, the only reason why I am not marching over there right now is that I don't want to be without a PC for 2 weeks and, as this is such a new model, they are not simply going to replace the PC with a new one. Which in itself would also be a bit of hassle, now I've copied across all my old files from my old (and now dead) laptop.

Any immediate thoughts? Thanks!

Try running the Dell Diagnostics Test (the full version) to see if it detects any problems. Here's how: How to Run the Dell. If it does, contact Dell Support for assistance (there's a link near the bottom of the above article).

I hope this helps. If the test comes back completely clean, then post back and we'll try something else (or if your computer is still under warranty, contact Dell Support anyway as they should be happy to assist you and know more about your computer than we do).

Good luck!

I've had the XPS 13 for about a week and finally got around to trying it with a new Soundbot bluetooth headset.  I've used the headset on my iphone to great success, and the sound quality is great (for a 15 dollar pair of headphones!).
When I pair it with the XPS 13, the sound quality is awful.  Muffled and just plain bad.
When I connect the XPS 13 to the speakers I've used on my desktop computer for years (via the headphone jack), the sound is fine.
Is there any way to  improve the sound quality through bluetooth, or am I just stuck?  I didn't notice this issue come up when reading reviews.
Thanks.

This is the first laptop I've owned, and of course it's a used one. Anyway today while using it, it just froze up on me, and then it would not respond to anything, even cntrl, alt, del. So I had to unplug the battery to get it to turn off. Then when I tried to turn it back on, the HD started to make a sound like if the needle in the HD was actually grinding into the disk. It sounded painfull!. Then it would attempt to post, and then gives me a "disk error". I am going to take a wild guess and say that my hard drive crashed in the truest sense? LOL ... Since my first inclination was to immediately try to find a replacement, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to go about selecting a suitable replacement. It is a IBM thinkpad 600 series. I was thinking maybe I should remove the old one and get a part number first? What would you do? Thanks for the input.:blackeye:

Answer:My thinkpad HD is making an awful grinding sound!

Sounds like a head crash. This is when the head and the platters actually make contact. It can make a screaching or grinding sound. Only thing I can suggest about a replacement is to make sure it is the right size drive. Most of the time laptop HDDs are listed separately from the rest so it shouldn't be a problem finding one. If you wish to get an exact replacement then yes, you'd probably want the numbers off of it.

Hey there.

I get an awful screeling sound from my speakers which only seems to happen when i open up a game.

Both my graphics card and sound card are updated. (Spec Below)

There was an option in 1 game for Vertical syncing which seem to make it quieter but it was still slightly there, but that option isnt in all games.
And if the game is still running and you press Alt + Tab to get to windows then the noise drops out completely until you Alt + Tab back to it which it then starts back again.

Im not sure which bit it causing it to happen, but im thinking its more my graphics card maby?

Thanks in advance, Phil.

Hi,
My dell inspiron 14z 5423 no longer have sound from both the speakers and the earphone jack.
This happened after I replaced the Battery and also the hard disk from 500gb to 1TB and upgraded to windows 10.
Before this, I was using Windows 8.1 and everything was working well. I have returned it back to windows 8.1 but the no audio problem still persist.
Also, my speaker symbol on the task bar shows a "cross" sign with "no audio output installed" displaying when I hover on the speaker icon.
Please I need help. have tried all options i can think of including driver updates.
One more thing, the sound driver are not showing up on the device manager window where other drivers are displayed.

Hello. Download this Win8.1 IDT audio driver for the Inspiron 14z 5423. There are two versions there -- get the one that says "File Format Hard Drive". Follow the installation instructions and see if the driver shows up in Device Manager.
If it doesn't, perform the PSA or ePSA sound test. If no sound during the test then there has been hardware failure. Could have happened during parts replacement.
