Preferred Solution: Synaptics not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I installed on a U350 Win7 64-bit the new Synaptics driver, v15.2.7 which have Scrybe Gesture Workflow Technology. I restarted the system and saw that the touchpad was working OK, except Scrybe software which does not work at all, launching any of the programs/internet shortcuts. So I uninstalled the driver and I'm looking only for the Synaptics driver, not bundled with Scrybe software. Do you have a download link for 64-bit please? Thanks.

Hello

My fairly new Toshiba Equium laptop has the synaptics touchpad which worked ok until a few days ago and i can only move the cursor now, and not scroll in any direction.

I have recently installed Vista SP1.

When i have found the application and tried to open this to enable it, i receive an error message saying it cannot be found. Also, after visiting the Synaptics web page to download the latest driver it tells me to refer to Toshibas support pages, but there is nothing here.

Can anyone let me know how to re-enable this please?

Thanks

Answer:Synaptics touch pad not working

What model number do you have? Toshiba should have a support page with the synaptics software you need - if they don't have it listed you may need to give them a call and get a copy sent out. The software may be on the driver disks that came with the laptop.

Did the touchpad scoll stop working at the exact same time you installed SP1? If not, you could try a system restore (by rolling back the system a few days) and see if that helps

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron B130, yes old I know. Long story short, let a friend borrow it who prefers a regular mouse, they installed it. Now I cant get my touchpad to work AT ALL. I have gone through Dell website and downloaded driver, nothing is working. Under my Control Panel-Mouse- under hardware all I have is "HID compliant mouse" I do have a tab that has the Synaptics symbol and the word buttons, no option to enable it anywhere. If anybody can help me it would be greatly appreciated!!

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working at all

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

Hi. My touchpad  is not working. I tried all uninstall and reinstall the driver but doesnt work. I hope you guys can help me.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

Yesterday my touchpad was suddenly turned on and I tried to disable it with the settings I always used (configuration screen) However, when i tried to open the control zone for it, it told me it couldn't connect to the driver. I decide to try and reinstall the driver, but it said another driver was already on my computer. I could delete it within the program files on the configuration screen, but there was nothing. So I couldn't deinstall it at all. Its really annoying because I never use my touchpad and my hand keeps brushing over it, so my mouse or text keeps going away.  Please I would like a solution. I can add files to what my screen keeps saying; but it's all in dutch. (Also my smart connect technology keeps flashing a yellow triangle and I have no idea what I have to do against that)

Answer:Z50 75 Synaptics Pointing Device not Working

Hi

The only idea that cames to my mind is that you try to download and install the latest Touchpad driver from the support site of the IdeaPad Z50.

Here are all the drivers listed:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-z-series-laptops/lenovo-z50-70

If you are using Windows 8.1 64bits, I think it will be this driver:
Touchpad Driver (Elan, Synaptics) for Windows8.1 (64-bit) - Lenovo Z40-70, Z50-70

If this does not work, maybe it will a good time to ask for support at Lenovo Service Center.

I recently had a new hard drive installed on my HP Pavillion 13-a110dv, and we used the boot USB drive that I had created when I bought the laptop to boot it up.  Unfortunately the Synaptics Touchpad has not worked since the HD install.  The device does not show up initially in the Device Manager under Mice and Pointing Devices, but will show up if I click on "Show Hidden Devices," in which case it lists "Synaptics SMBus TouchPad" with a yellow warning triangle over it.   Right clicking its properties says "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)"  If I click on "Update Driver" it says that the driver is up to date. I've followed the various suggestions made by the HP Support Assistant which have not worked, including:--uninstalling and installing a new driver--testing if the touchpad works in recovery mode - it doesn't--downloading the driver from the HP website - it says the one I have is newer and deleting and installing the older one doesn't work--doing a system diagnostic from F2 on start up - there is no Touchpad in the component list to test, otherwise quick test comes up fine. I have additionally done a second full recovery using an HP purchased boot USB hoping that this would give me back the Touchpad.  But it would not complete on multiple tries.  It's notable that the boot drive was labeled Toshiba Msft Norb USB Device.  Why would HP send m... A while back my laptop's power cable was fried in a power surge. No damage seemed to have been done to my laptop. but now I fear there may have been some peripheral damage.

In any case, whether sure to the power surge or not, my touchpad is not working when the computer is plugged in. When the computer is not plugged in, the touchpad sometimes works, but it is spotty.

I have no idea how to fix this. Any help?

Ok So hunted through propably about 50 websites going through all the forums for a solution to this problem..
heres the pain...

Compaq pressario cq50 (not that this matters)

its a clients PC , Touch pad randomly stops working... Have updated the drivers... and still problem persists.

Originally when the touchpad stopped working i used the keyboard to navigate to Control pane/ mouse / hardware, and the ps2 touchpad had dissappeared.

Now since the update the touchpad still becomes unresponsive and still appears in Control panel/ mouse/ hardware, within the mouse control panel there is the option on the synaptics tab to reset the device, when i do this the touchpad becomes responsive again.

Looking through the forums most people seem to think this is a power issue and most people have found a solution of removing the battery and replacing it and this gets the touchpad working again.

however this is only a temporary fix.

im looking for a hardcore solution.

does anyone know if theres any alternative to the synaptics touchpad, or have any idea what could be causing it to become unresponsive.

Whilst typing this the mouse has now become responsive, and the keyboard from time to time shows a bit of lag, and everynow and then becomes unresponsive for a few seconds.

This is a clients laptop, and is putting me to the end of my tether.

i have explained to the client that i have exhausted my knowledge on this device and have not found a fix, so any solution is worth a try.

I have a HP Pavilion DM4-3099se Laptop with a Intel Core i5 dual core processer and 6GB of RAM. On this laptop is a Synaptics touchpad and uptill now it was working fine. It recently started glitching and now when i move my finger on the touchpad, the mouse moves but it repeatedly stops and then starts moving and then moves in all different directions. I went to the Synaptics website and installed the latest drivers for the touchpad and the installation was successful but the trackpad was still the same way. My external wired mouse works fine right now though. I tried restoring my system the earliest point there was on the list and still no improvement on the touchpad. Please help. Thank you.

Hello.

Since upgrading to Windows 10, my touchpad is not working properly any more. It's not that the touchpad isn't working at all or that I can't move or control the pointer. I say it isn't working properly because, occasionally, one single tap is read as multiple taps, and it has the same effect as if I had tapped about ten times.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.

Somethere I read that for touch pad to be working perfectly it has to be instaled Synaptics (the one i need for mine) and ALPS.

I was curios is that a fake info or it is working?

Answer:Do I need both drivers Synaptics & ALPS to get touchpad working?

Hi mate ;)

In my opinion you should install always both drivers.

Toshiba driver page ?More Info? said this:

_Alps Electric_ - This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for mouse control.
_Synaptics_ - This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for Touch Pad control.

I presume you need both drivers to get all the functions which can be changed in touchpad settings.

If you want you can try to install only one of the both drivers and then to check what settings are not available or what is missing exactly.

Cheers

Hi, The scrolling (both horiz and vert) stop working and I have to reinstall the synaptics driver every time to fix this. When this happens, and I open the mouse and touchpad setting, I get an error that reads: "Unable to connect to  Synaptics Pointing Device Driver". At this point, the only fix is as I said, uninstalling synaptics in device manager, restarting the machine and reinstalling the driver till next time that it stops working.  Thanks,Vahid

I'm on a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop with Windows XP, and the other day when I hard-shutdown the computer and restarted, it booted up with a loud, long beep until I forced it to shut down again. When I restarted, the touchpad no longer functioned, and I've been using a USB mouse since. Also, occasionally the keyboard doesn't function after coming back from hibernating, though a restart fixes this.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, but although the driver appears to have been installed (the Program Files are present, as is the Add/Remove entry), the Synaptics TouchPad is not listed under Device Manager nor is it listed under Device Settings in the Mouse properties under Control Panel. Why isn't the driver fully reinstalling back again?

I've read on other similar problems to try checking to see if power is being sent to these devices under the BIOS, but apparently Compaqs are notorious for being difficult to get into the BIOS, so I haven't had luck doing that yet. System restore to a day prior to the event didn't help. No function keys disable the touchpad, and the touchpad light is white, not red (meaning it's "on"). I'm still under warranty, but if I can fix this without having to wait for it to ship back and forth, that'd be much more preferable.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:Synaptics Clickpad - Right Click not working after windows 8...

Hey man,The same thing happened to me, and I'm 99% sure that it's due to the windows 8.1 upgrade.  I tried to contact HP support, but they were absolutely worthless (wanted to restore my laptop to factory settings, then reinstall 8.1).  Until HP gets their act together and puts out a fix for this, I would suggest using this: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-enable-two-finger-tap-for-right-click-in-windows/.  Completely restores the two finger right click functionality.  I would recommend that you leave the synaptics drivers installed and just use this in tandem, as that's what I'm doing, and it's working fine.  You may have to go into the settings for the Two Finger Scroll app and turn OFF the scrolling feature, however, as it was interfering with the synaptics scroll for me.

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

2. Is there an On/Off button above the touchpad...there is on my HP. Did you accidently turn it OFF

I am using Windows 10 version 1703 (OS Build 15063.413) on HP Notebook 1000. And just for reference I have encountered this issue in previous versions of Windows 10 as well. Every time I clean install Windows 10 and update to install drivers, it will work fine for about 1-2 months and then suddenly out of nowhere touchpad will either stops working or keeps moving itself after 5-10 minutes of restart ( even if I don't update Windows, means same drivers version ).

Right now I have installed version 19.3.31.16 of Synaptics pointing device drivers. But I have tried to solve this issue by installing previous version of drivers as well ( version 8.xx, 10.xx, 17.xx, 19.0.19.1 ). After installing drivers the first time it works fine for about 15 minutes and then same issue!

I have noticed this btw:
Every time I put the laptop to sleep and then log on, touchpad works fine for about 5 minutes.Every time I restart the laptop, it works fine for about 5 minutes.Even If I uninstall the drivers and use basic drivers by Windows 10, the same thing happens. Touchpad keeps flickering, moving itself or would just stop working.Sometimes Upper right or left corner of touchpad will work fine while the rest of the area is unresponsive.

Have anybody else encountered this issue? How did you resolve it? I don't wanna install Windows again or keep restarting my laptop.

With the pc booted and fully working, the installed fingerprint reader functions corretly. If I shutdown the notebook and I restart it, it still functions and I can unlock / login using the fingerprint. If I reboot manually or if the system reboots for example because of updates are installed, the fingerprint stop working. So I need to reinstall the driver using the "repair driver" feature.

Since I received my Inspiron 17 5000 (5749), Win8.1 x64 the Synaptics touchpad works but the driver settings do not. My first post! Hopefully NOT one of many.

I recently got a secondhand HP NX9105 laptop. I reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP (SP3).

All worked fine, except the touchpad isn’t working.

I could not see a driver for it so I went onto HP support website and downloaded the Synaptics driver (sp35444). The install got interrupted with the message "This Synaptics pointing device installation package does not support one or more of your pointing devices and will not be installed…".

I then tried the Alps driver (sp25796) and that installed (is visible in the Add/Remove Programs), but the touchpad still didn't work and it doesn't appear in either the Device Manager or in Control Panel->Mouse->Hardware tab.

Next I tried to install another version of the Synaptics driver (sp27681). This one installed so I then rebooted the laptop.

The touchpad still doesn't work, but now I have the Synaptics Device Settings tab in my Mouse settings. The problem is that all the buttons are grayed out and no devices are listed.

Is it possible that this is a hardware fault or is there anything else I need to download?

I'm really stuck now, please help...

Hi

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50, only bought 3 weeks ago, the touchpad has pretty much stopped working. I can only move the mouse briefly when I first turn it on, then it stops working.

Scrolling still works, and selecting does, but I cannot move the pointer it's just frozen. A connected wireless usb mouse works, I have searched all over the internet for this, and it seems a very common problem but I have yet to find a solution. I have downloaded updated drivers for it, and it worked a little bit longer than normal - about 2 minutes, then nothing.

I can take it back to pc world I suppose, but the problem seems so common I just thought that there may be something else I can try before going through the hassle of returning it to the shop.

Any ideas would be welcomed

Many thanks

Michelle

Answer:Synaptics pointing device is not working on my Satellite L50

Hi Michelle

It is not easy to say what is wrong there. Have you checked all Synaptics settings to see if everything is enabled properly?

Since when have you noticed this issue?
What you can try to do is to roll back OS few days back when everything was OK using system restore tool. Last option and also final test what you can do is to reinstall original operating system and test it one more time using notebook with ?factory settings?.

By the way: if you want to keep this notebook create recovery media using preinstalled recovery media creation tool.

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166960_1&swEnvOid=419...)-Installing different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. The last tab of the window should (if I am not mistaken) have both the Synaptics TouchStyk and TouchPad listed, but only the TouchStyk shows up. It appears as if the driver updated and might have corrupted something, or maybe it's overlapping with the old one and it didn't properly overwrite it (I'm running out of ideas...). Hey, guys. I've upgraded my G470 to windows 8 and, since that, the Synaptics driver is not working anymore. Everytime I install the driver, I recieve this message (found it on the internet, from a person with the same problem): http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/f1/f23/14560d1357816078-unable-connect-synaptics-pointing-dev...  "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver". Then, I have to uninstall it, loosing all it's functions. I've tried to upgrade to the latest version (16.3.8.8), but it didn't work. Is there a way to fix it? Thanks.

Hi,

the Synaptics Pointing Device is not working on my Thinkpad Yoga 12. Suddenly during operation the mouse and the trackpoint stop working.
I tryed to install a new driver and even install Windows 10 again. During the instalation, no mouse was available. An external USB mouse works without problems.

If i search for the Synaptics Pointing Device in the device manager of windows, the mouse is displayed with the error code 24: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed".

It is possible, that the mechanism for screen flipping disabled the Pointing device?
Or is it possible to deactivate the Pointing device with a secret key combination?

Thanks

I turned on my 6 months old Acer Aspire One as usual and realised that something was wrong with my mouse. The left button simply doesn't work. Neither does tapping the touchpad. Nothing happens no matter how many times I push or tap. I can move the cursor around just fine and the right mousebutton still works. I can also plug in a USB mouse and use that instead.
I have checked the mouse properties. Under the tab "Hardware" the mouse is listed "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad", and the unit status says it works correctly. I also checked the preferences, and both tapping and buttons are activated and set to normal.
I have tried restarting, removing the battery and Fn-F7 without any luck.
I have also tried switching preferences to left-handed - that gave a funny result: Both the right button and tapping the touchpad functioned like a right-click except now they could also for instance close a window and open the start-menu. The left-button still didn't have any function what so ever.
Hope someone can help me.

Hi - the touchpad has simply stopped working after the last couple of rounds of Windows updates and I didn't note which one, so not sure if I have a suitable restore point.

Tried downloading latest drivers from Toshiba website and it makes no difference. Also tried uninstalling these and installing the Elan drivers and these didn't install properly at all. I found some slightly older Synaptics drivers 17.0.10.1, which one of my other PCs runs ok on and although they installed ok, the touchpad does nothing. I'm relying on an external mouse, which is less than ideal.

Worryingly, the Toshiba website says it doesn't recognise my PC's serial number, yet it was bought in the UK through Asda online. All help and ideas welcome...

My synaptics touchpad is not working correctly my mouse is working fine but the corners from the touchpad for special functions isn't working at all.

I tried to configure it again but this had no result, also i downloaded a new driver but this had no result to. My buttons keys for multimedia like play/pause or stop aren't working either.

These buttons/keys stopped working at the same time as the touchpad. Checked for viruses with NOD 32 pro and for spyware with ZA pro==> no results.

Who can help me with this problem???

Answer:Synaptics touchpad is not working properly on Satellite A100-635

Hi there,

just a little question: when did they stopped working? Did you installed some software or some similar stuff like tools or something?
If not, then backup your data and make a system recovery. It should be a good way to find out, if it?s just an software problem or a serious hardware problem.

I suggest you to recover your system and then give a feedback if it worked, because if you already tried a new driver, you won?t have many choices.

I hare recently upgradedmy Toshiba Satellite L855-149 to the most recent windows 8 version 6.2 and since I have done so the Synaptics touch pad has stopped working, I presume because the driver does not work with this version of windows 8. What can i do to resolve this problem so that i can use my computer without a plug in mouse again?

Thanks,
Simon

Answer:Satellite L855-149 - Synaptics touchpad not working after Win 8 upgrade

Hi Simon !!
I have just clean installed windows pro 8 on my satellite r830 and i had the same problem (actually, the touchpad still worked but not the scrollbars).
What you need to do is download the driver via this website, unzip it and execute it. It will work just fine. Locate it under 'windows 7 64 Bit' (or 32 Bit, depending on your OS) and not 'Windows 8 - Upgrade' as synaptics still hasn't realized a specific driver to windows 8.
Use the assistant on the website to find the proper driver faster (the reference of the model is written on the back of the laptop)
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
So far, it's the only driver that i have installed. However, the button near the touchpad that activates or deactivates it still doesn't work. Maybe it will work again when i install the other drivers.
I hope this can help you ;)

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

Hi i'm new to the forum. I just got this laptop (Dell Vostro 3558 i3), a few days ago i upgraded to windows 10 using the media creation tool. After the upgrade, the touch pad works but I cannot scroll. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. When I upgraded there was nothing listed that went along the lines of synaptics in the control panel (uninstall).

I have tried installing the drivers of windows 10 and windows 7 from the dell website, what happens is quite weird, the installer says it installs without any errors but nothing happens, there is no synaptics program listed in the control panel.

Excuse me if I left any important details out but it is the first time that i have come across this issue and don't know what info I should give. I should also note that before I upgraded the touch pad worked along with the program of the drivers, now all I get is the usual mouse options and in device manager it recognizes it as a P/S2 mouse.

Thanks in advance

P.S. Sorry if there is a duplicate post but went through a few pages on google and couldn't find any threads that related to my issue and I even tried doing a few solutions.

I have a HP Pavilion DV7-3300 with Intel Core i7 processor with a Synaptics touchpad running Windows 10 Professional.  The touchpad worked fine until the last Windows update (Build 1511) and now the scroll won't work.  I located and installed the latest Synaptic driver (V19.2.16.0 released 5-4-2016) and it still won't scroll.  Of course Microsoft refuses to accept any responsibility for the touchpad not working even though it worked fine until their build 1511 update. Any help getting my scroll back would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Synaptics scroll quit working after Windows 10 Pro, build 15...

Hi, I've had more success with these issues after the 1511 update, by using an older version of the Synaptics software ( additionally, SmartSense or PalmCheck also work as intended with the 17 series drivers ). If you wish to try this, you can do so as follows. First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Synaptics Driver Version 17.0.18.8 Turn off your wireless card ( should be f12 ). Open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall ( Windows will seamlessly install a generic touchpad driver so the pointer will continue to function ). When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again. Let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Note:  You may need to open the Synaptics control panel and enable scrolling. If it does work Ok now, turn your wireless card back on and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating the Synaptics driver. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3073930 Regards, DP-K

Hello,

I want to thank in advance for any responses I get to this thread.

I have a Gateway laptop model MT6840. It has a Synaptics touchpad. A couple of days ago, the touchpad stopped working completely. I took my laptop out of sleep mode, and the icon for the touchpad in the system tray was simply gone. I checked Control Panel: Mouse: Device Settings for the Synaptic touchpad, but all options are merely grayed out, and the device does not register on the computer anymore.

I believe I have tried almost everything. I first tried rebooting. I then tried disconnecting my external mouse and then rebooting. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from the Gateway website. I looked on Google, but found nothing of use. Alas, none of these things have worked.

This is a bit frustrating because, although I do have an external mouse, it is much more convenient not to have to bring the external mouse around when I transport it. And since I'm a college student, I need to get around with my laptop quite often.

I don't believe it is anything related to the hardware because it stopped working when the software (apparently) magically disappeared. I would really like to solve this problem.

If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. If there is some detail I should mention that would help, please also let me know.

Thanks,
Minus

Answer:Gateway MT6840: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Well, I decided to reboot again and go into the BIOS. I did, changing absolutely nothing (even choosing the "discard changes" exit option), logged onto Windows, and the problem was solved.

I have no idea how that worked, but it did.

I can't find a delete thread option, so if an admin is reading this, go ahead and just delete this.

I have recently performed a Windows 10 64 CLEAN installation on my HP Stream Notebook 11-d007na, with no HP software installed. Needless to say, I had many missing driver issues all of which I have solved apart from one. The MousePad did not work during any of the setup process. I managed to get a USB mouse, get on to the HP website and download the MousePad driver for my laptop, which seemed to work fine. It installed and I was able to use the mouse. I soon realised however that two finger scrolling was not working and when I go to the Mouse Properties, there is no Synaptics tab to enable the selection for that feature. I went to the Synaptics website and tried to install the driver directly from there, but that installation keeps failing. So my question is, how do I get the Synaptics tab back on Mouse Properties so that I can enable 2 finger scrolling? Thanks in advance.

So, just uninstall drivers, restart your notebook, install drivers again.

Hi,

I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite A100.
I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works?

I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install).
Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10".

Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite A100: Where to get a working Synaptics touchpad driver for Vista?

Hi

Usually the driver from the Toshiba page should be fully valid and should works.
Please note that there are different A100 series and if you download any drivers, be sure that you choose the right drivers for the right notebook series.

Did you check if the touchpad settings can be set and changed in the control panel??
As far as I know the touchpad properties can be set in the ?Mouse? option which can be found in the control panel!!!

In the ?Device settings? tab you should select the ?synaptics touchpad? and press ?settings?.
New window will pop up and you will find many options controlling the touchpad settings!!!

As title says, I'm having big problems with a memory leak from the touchpad driver. I've updated to the latest driver, but it still happens. This morning, the process was using 6.5 GB of ram! Greetings,

I have recently Install Windows 8 Pro, I have Sony Vaio VPCEE3J0E. Initially, I downloaded Sony's Pointing Driver (Alps) - 7.107.505.106 and it was just for basic touchpad function.
However, I found about Synaptics and downloaded the latest Synaptics V 16.2.21 and installed it.

Now once I go to my Control Panel ==> Mouse ==> Synaptic Properties, it shows nothing, there isn't any option for touchpad gesture etc.

I don't know why it isn't working but I think it should have worked. Please if anyone could help me.

One more thing I don't know why, no matter how many times I install in my
pointing device properties ==> Device Settings, I have Standard Pointing Device instead of Synaptics Pointing Device.

Is it that my notebook doesn't support Synaptics drivers

My laptop touchpad scrolling stopped working this morning after I updated my gpu driver. I went to the packard bell website and looked at the touchpad drivers for my laptop. There is a synaptics one and a elan one.
I have them both installed on my laptop but it still isn't working and there is still no virtual scrolling option in synaptics. These are the options that I have in the synaptics settings:
This is what it should look like:
What do I have to do to get the scroll trackpad feature to work again? P.S, when in device manager, even though there is an ELAN tab in mouse properties, Only the synaptics driver shows up under the mice section in device manager. Does this mean that the synaptics driver is replacing the ELAN and I need them both for the scroll to work.
Thanks

Answer:Touchpad scroll not working, No virtual scrolling option in synaptics!

I've been messing around with it some more and ended up totally removing the synaptics drivers and installing the ELAN drivers. After doing this the scroll features of the trackpad work again so I have no idea why there are synaptics drivers on the model page for my laptop. There is still a problem though, when I got into the ELAN options in 'mouse settings', I get "windows shell common DLL has stopped working" and I then have to close the mouse settings. So now I can't get into the ELAN settings. Anybody have any info on 'windows shell' issue?

The drivers I got with my laptop are too old and on updating to the latest one from synaptics, the hotkey doesn't work to enable/disable touchpad. The key works fine with the lenovo driver if I re-install it? Can anyone tell how can I enable the hotkey function for the drivers from synaptics?

Answer:Touchpad hotkey not working for drivers from synaptics site Win8.1 x64 - S510p

hi yash2710,

The driver from synaptics is a generic one which meets basic synaptics and advanced functionality
The hot key is precustomized by Lenovo and other OEMs and is on random key location depending on Manufacturers that's why it is not included on the one from synaptics.

As per Synaptics site
To ensure that you get the appropriate device driver for your system, download your Synaptics device driver from your system manufacturer's support website.

Can you share what you need on the updated driver from synaptics? Maybe I can help.

Regards
Solid Cruver

I decided to upgrade my XP 32bit to Vista x64 Ultimate on my A100 PSAAR.
OS works perfectly except one thing - touchpad, which used to work perfectly in XP, doesn't response at all under Vista x64 (with SP1 of course).

Worse thing is, that my (Synaptics) touchpad is listed in Device Manager as a properly working. Hmm - not to my recollection. Answering your potential suggestions - I tried reinstalling it, I tried using drivers from A200 (since Toshiba doesn't support drivers for Vista x64 for A100 line) and even got latest drivers from Synaptics website. Even Vista update got me new drivers - cool, I admit but it still doesn't work, although Windows does not seem to "know" about it... any help would be much appreciated :)

PS (optional problem) I also have 2 unknown devices according to Device Manager - since I have no idea what they are and because of the fact that I do not feel like I am missing anything - I simply gave up on those - at least for now ;)

Answer:Satellite A100 PSAAR: Synaptics touchpad not working on Vista Ultimate x64

Obviously nobody here has solution for you. :(

Problem is that this notebook model is not supported for Vista 64-bit. I really don't know what you can try. Maybe to install driver designed for A300?

I really don't know. Can you use external mouse successfully?

Question: Synaptics

I have an Acer Aspire 9300 and everything works great but tapping the toucpad produces a right-click and a context menu appears whenever I click to open something or simply click on my desktop.
I'm pretty sure the settings are correct..I just don't know how to make tapping just a left click.

I have synaptics 19.0.12.98 and the touchpad is working so bad it makes me cry. The three finger tap only works when the fingers are in a straight horizontal line. 4 finger tap performs the 3 finger tap operation. Multi finger gesture (2 finger scroll, zoom, 2\3 finger tap) randomly stops working. After doing some tests, this is definitely a software problem. Fix if!

Question: Synaptics Trojan?

Hey guys,

The weirdest thing is going on with this laptop. I'm running avast! and it's just alerted me that one of the .exe files in the Synaptics folder has a the Win32atched-DL trojan.

It's odd because (according to Google anyway) it's a common .exe associated with the touchpad controls and because it's not in the WINDOWS directory where trojans tend to lodge themselves.

Should I quarantine and/or delete the file or is avast! making a mistake? Here's HJT.

Question: Synaptics touchpad

I would like to mention that upgrading to Windows 10 on 2 HP laptops. On the one that is older which had the synaptics driver 15.3.29.0 the tapping worked fine, on the newer unit the driver was current with version 19. something. With attempting to adjust the synaptics using the up to date driver there was real no satisfaction. I deleted it and installed the 15.3.29.0 driver and it works great..

Hope this helps someone...

I am using Acer laptop Travelmate 653LC1. Works fine with Windows XP SP1 and upgrades.

I installed SP2 four times but it won't work properly (all virus scan, firewall and spyware programs disabled). After installing my keybord and touchpad are dead. Using USB mouse allowed me to uninstall SP2. As for the new features I'd like to switch to SP2, but without touchpad and keybord it will not be of much help.

I already tried to reinstall the drivers after upgrade to SP2, but then the computer gets stuck in installing them.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Frank

I recently reinstalled the OS on a Compaq nx9010 laptop. I reinstalled all the drivers that were on the recovery CD's. Everything seems to work OK, bu the touchpad won't allow you to "tap".

You can use the touchpad just fine, but when you want to click or double-click, you need to use the "mouse" buttons located just below the touchpad. The touchpad no longer responds to taps.

What might have happened? Everything looks OK in Device Manager.

Answer:Synaptics touch pad

I think there is a Synaptics program you can run/install to configure the touch pad settings. Check the control panel.

Question: Synaptics TouchPad

I have a Synaptics TouchPad v11.0.7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. I prefer a higher sensitivity on the pad, so I change the pointer options. However, after I restart my computer, the preferences reset to default. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but the same thing continues. This is getting very irritating. I have no other mouse drivers on my computer and I am at a loss for a solution. I would much appretiate any help.

Answer:synaptics ps/2 touchpad

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

Hello,

I tried to run a malicious .mpeg last week but disconnected almost immediately once I realized what it was. I ran SuperAntiSpyware, MBAM, Spybot, ATFClean and Avast's pre-boot screen. After SuperAntiSpyware quarantined Vundo and a couple others, all other logs came out clean.

HOWEVER, I got a blue error screen this morning and could not read what it said before my computer abruptly shut down (wasn't doing anything special, just reading e-mail online). The error message from MS said it was my Synaptics touchpad driver, but the files in the error report had WER1b6d.dir00 in the pathname. I've posted my latest HijackThis log below, but what more should I do? Kaspersky Online Scanner unfortunately overheats my computer and makes it shut down, so I can't run that.

Thanks in advance for looking, hoping to hear something positive!

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue.http://www.synaptics.com/support/driversHope this information helps.Regards,Vidya

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

Answer:Synaptics touchpad - PLEASE help!

I am not a fan of the touchpads on laptops. I have always disabled them and used a notebook mouse instead. While this may make for some difficulty while traveling, I don't inadvertantly select, click or move the cursor while keyboarding.
