Preferred Solution: Where can I buy the new Synaptics's USB fingerprint reader?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Where can I buy the new Synaptics's USB fingerprint reader?

Hi and welcome.
This was asked before.
I still don't see it anywhere for sale yet.
There must bugs with it or it was cancelled by Synaptics.

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

Hi. I upgraded the above software  3 days ago to ver 5.8.6.6874. The fingerprint reader now is not recognized by ThinkVantage applications - Password Manager etc. Do I need to roll this update back and can this be done? I have one other query. My T61 sits in a port replicator most of the time. If there is a power outage the whole thing freezes and needs to be hard booted. I would have thought it would switch to battery without this problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:T61 - fingerprint reader not recognized after fingerprint reader software upgraded

try re update the bios firmware with the previous version. When you say freeze, do you mean it doesn't respond to external keyboard and mouse command?

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re... Hi all, I've spent far too long trying to solve this by myself, and need to reach out to someone who might have resolved this issue. I've read tons of similar questions online, and rebooted dozens of times after trying many different things. I have a Carbon Touch 3444-CUU that can't see it's fingerprint reader. It used to work when brand new, but after lots of lenovo and windows updates, it now does not:  I am on Windows 8.1, with all updates. No problems in device manager.Touchchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) installed under Biometric devices fine.Power management set to _not_ turn off device to save power. The bios is 2.61. I suspect the problem is very low-level, because even the BIOS cannot find device when trying to set it up. If I have the lates BIOS, but it can't see the device - what can I do? Thanks everyone..

Hi,I have a Thinkpad P50 equiped with a fingerprint reader.Worked perfectly well for months, but suddently stopped working.I verified/updated drivers, but this was not the problem.I then had the bad idea of changing the BIOS security option to enable the pre-POST fingerprint option. Now I end-up with a system that keeps rebooting forever preventing me to access the BIOS configuration.(I guess that after pressing F1 for entering BIOS, it expects me to scan my finger, but doesn't find the reader, so reboots again and again.)Please HELPThank you!!

I just added a second finger print reader through the docking station for when I have the computer docked, but I am unable to enroll my fingerprints using it.  I am only able to get it to work through the laptop's built-in fingerprint reader.  Everything appears normal:It installed without a problem and appears as fuctioning normally under the device manager.  When I I open the Biometric Devices manager from the control panel it is listed as one of two biometric devices (the other one is the built in fingerprint reader on the laptop). it is listed as "Not enrolled" while the built-in sensor is listed as "Enrolled".When I click on "Use your fingerprint with windows" on the left panel and get the "More than one fingerprint reader was found. Touch the surface of the fingerprint reader that you want to you use." promp, it recognizes that I touched the external reader.I enter Lenovo's Fingerprint Manager Pro software and select a finger to enroll and takes me to the "swipe your finger ont he sensor" window. However:Once I try to swipe the finger ont he sensor, it wont recognize that I am trying to add the fingerprint.  The software reverts to searching for the finger swipe on the built-in sensor isntead of the external one.Thins I have tried that didn't work: 1. Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

Does anyone know how to do this? (if at all possible) Cheers

Odd that would not be an option listed.  Maybe required additional programming to have that option setup.  Maybe that's a feature Lenovo could release in a future BIOS update or software update since it would be an option I would probably use.  I personally did not get the fingerprint reader on my X220 because I didn't feel I would use it haha but it is a nifty feature. ~Novak

I am asking about X220 4286 systems with Win7 x64/8GB Ram and fingerprint readers. Users whose privileges include power-on and hard disk authentication by fingerprints cannot get the FP reader to accept their fingerprints at startup, but when they reach the login window the FP reader immediately accepts the same fingerprint. This generates quite a few complaints and requires users to remember yet another long password which gets reset frequently. Does anyone know why this happens? Is it possible to make the power-on fingerprint setting "convenient level"? Thanks.

Answer:X220 Power-on fingerprint reader problems - can FP reader be set to convenient level at startup?

I've experienced such problem. It's a bug with older BIOS. Whatever I do, to re-entry all the fingerprints, to erase the TPM and Fingerprint Reader, none working. But after update to the 1.19 version BIOS, the problem is gone.Hope this helps, same configuration here. P.S. if update makes no differece, try erase the FPR (TPM erase is not nessesary)

Good day,
Got my new and shiny E7470, but there is some trouble in paradise.
Is there a way to improve fingerprint reader? This thing is complete <profanity>. Half of the time it does not recognize the finger and when it recognized, it just takes too long. Updated all drivers and software to the latest, as per dell support suggestion. Still <profanity> :D My old Vostro 3350 FP reader works better in any case.
And the second question is, can the nfc read tags? Installed a couple of programs from windows store, but they do not show the tags info. When the sound is on and I place a tag on the reader, there is chime and that is all. Device manager shows, that device is active and working without problems.
NFC card should be Mifare Plus.

Answer:How to improve fingerprint reader and can the nfc reader read tags? e7470

Received my E7470 few days ago same exact problem. Go to Dell Support website download and reinstall the Chipset Drivers 10.1.1.9 ,A01
Seems there is problem after updating the ControlVault driver. This fixed my issue.

Hello,

I hope, that someone can help me.

I've bought a used Portege R500 (warranty is still available until 12/2010) and set it up with Windows 7 Home Premium.

I installed all drivers for Windows 7 from the specific model support page. Vista driver were installed for all drivers, that are not available in win 7.

So everything works fine, except the fingerprint reader and the sd card slot.

Fingerprint: I tried al lot of drivers, even the one for the R600 and R700 (as proposed from someone here in the forum). When I start the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility, a text box tells me, that there is no connection to the sensor. The Authentc Software doesn't work either.

SD Card reader: I tried several SD Cards, starting from a simple and old (but working) 2GB SD card from Kingston. According to the devicce manager, the driver is installed properly and is working.
The blue icon next to the wireless light goes on and after a "long" time, a message box appears and asks me to format the card. Again it takes some and then I get the massage, that the card can't be formatted. I tried the same procedure with a SDHC 4GB card and an Micro SDHC card in an SD Card adapter. So obviously the cards are recogniced but can't be used or formatted.

There are some reports from other users in the internet, that the sd card slots in different toshiba notebook models do have problems under Windows 7.

Both problems appeared under Vista as well. So my hope was, that upgrading... Read more

With the pc booted and fully working, the installed fingerprint reader functions corretly. If I shutdown the notebook and I restart it, it still functions and I can unlock / login using the fingerprint. If I reboot manually or if the system reboots for example because of updates are installed, the fingerprint stop working. So I need to reinstall the driver using the "repair driver" feature.

Hi everyone,
Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.
When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks.

I have a new laptop with Vista and a fingerprint reader. How do you set it to AUTOMATICALLY go to accepting your fingerprint as a login, withOUT having to click through 2 login screens first? And can you set it to ONLY accept a fingerprint as a login, without giving an option for entering a username/password? Thanks a bunch!

Answer:Using Fingerprint Reader

Depends on the make and model of the system and the software that comes bundled with the fingerprint reader. That should be available with the documentation that came with your system.

Hi, I got a laptop with DigitalPersona software for the fingerprint reader. Now it works great with logging in and stuff. But it gives me problems with firefox in general. Also when I want to use it to log into facebook, I would try set it up, but it would always select the wrong username fields, and doesnt recognise the password field. HELP!! If you go to the facebook login, you will notice there is the username and password aread at the top, and the fields for becoming a member at the bottom.. IT ALWAYS SELECTS THE BOTTOM FIELDS, so its a bit weird. Please help!

Answer:Help with fingerprint reader

With Facebook, you have to be a bit creative to add its login to DigitalPersona fingerprint system. You have to do this only once, afterwards you can then use your fingerprint to login.

First, leave email and password fields empty and click Login.
New window opens telling about incorrect login credentials.
On this page you can setup fingerprint login normally.

most likely not the one you were looking at but a review on a MS fingerprint reader http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1731354,00.asp

dunno if I can see the point of using one for a home PC, where a user/login password would work just as well, just a neat toy to show to your mates imho

I am trying to figure out simply what I can do with the fingerprint reader on the T400. I understand how to use it to log into the computer. My main question is whether or not I can use the fingerprint reader in the following contexts, and if so how. 1a) To  log into internet password protected websites. When I use IE, the password manager pops up and prompts me to save a password. If I save it, I can return to that website and it automatically will enter the login information and password for me. I want to know whether you can have password manager (or another program) prompt the user for the fingerprint and then submit the login information. That way the information is protected each time I log in, but I do not need to enter log in information each time, only a fingerprint.  1b) If this is possible in IE8, I would like to know if it is possible in Firefox 3, in which password manager does not pop up. 2) Can it be used to log into MS Outlook. 3) Can it be used to lock documents in MS Word. I much appreciate any information letting me know if these can be done, and if so, how to do them. Thank you very much for your help! JMessage Edited by lenova on 09-07-2008 09:13 PM

Answer:What can be done with the fingerprint reader?

After playing with it for a while I figured out at least questions 1a) and 1b). For anyone else who has the same questions: 1a) Have your browser save the password using Lenovo's Password Manager. Then open password manager and open that item.  Click the advanced tab and change the security level to custom. Click "Customize Security Policy" and select "Protect with a Fingerprint." 1b) Lenovo has a patch to synch Password Manager with firefox 3. It can be found here and is much easier than the manual fixes found on this forum.http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70132 I am still looking for help with 3) and 4), particurally 3). Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you very much!!

I am thinking about buying a fingerprint reader and I would like to know the pros and the cons.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader Why or Why Not?

Pros:

Can be useful with the right Win 7 compatible software - log in to forms/passwords.

Cons:

Your finger can be cut off to gain access, and even with a password, your system can be compromised, so options will need to adjusted in the software.

Peeps, need help urgently. Does anyone know how to go into the boot up to try and disable the fingerprint reader. Windows cannot load until this happens. The only registered people who used it in the past have left the company. This has come about for god knows what reason when the computer was sluggish on Friday and I rebooted. Windows wanted to update 18 changes. I let it happen. Big Mistake. When the computer rebooted I was faced with this bit of software asking for me to put designated fingerprint onto the reader. ????Until I can get into windows and uninstall the software I cannot get any work done and everything is on there and not backed up. I have been working at this place for only 3 months. Please help

Answer:MS fingerprint reader.

What I don't understand is how you have been accessing the computer for the last 3 months if there is nobody with a registered finger in the company.

I finally decided to give up the battle of Windows 10 on my T61.  I re-installed Windows 7.  It kinda fits in better with the olde iron.  It seems to be a little quicker.  There's just one problem,  When I installed the Lenovo fingerprint software and tried to set it up, I found that there was no fingerprint sensor driver in Device Manager.  I haven't been able to find it.  Where can I find it?

There is no fingerprint reader. I can't decide if I should get one or not. I have prevoiusly used a laptop with a fingerprint reader but I just used it for logging on to windows.

Should I upgrade the laptop to have a fingerprint reader and what features do fingerprint readers have now?

Thanks!

Answer:Fingerprint Reader

Pretty much that's it. I believe you can also preprogram website passwords into it so you can login with one swipe, but the only websites that don't automatically log you in are banking sites and sites that the reader won't recognize the login screen on anyways.

I had a computer last year for school that had a finger print scanner, and it got used very little.

fingerprint scanners are far more reliable that the webcam facial recognition that some laptops have, but it's easy to just type in your password.

Question: Fingerprint Reader

Hello Eveyone,

I have a question about fingerprint reader on laptops. My sister ask me to find out some information about laptop. Well, I did a little reader about motherboards and what have you about laptops. I decided since my sister told me to find her the best laptop, that I would suggest to her to buy a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 from Circuitcity Store for $2000. However, the laptop has a built-in fingerprint reader. Is thing feature something that is very efficient or just a feature to get more money out of us?? Is this just for data security on the laptop or seurity to even get on the laptop?
Also could someone please tell me if this laptop is a good one or not? My sister is not a geeker but she wants a laptop that is efficient in anything and everything that she might want to do.

Kind Regards to All,
Harvey

Answer:Fingerprint Reader

Hi Harvey (and sis), I have a Toshiba Tecra A7 laptop with fingerprint sensor.

It works well. It allows you to enroll more than 1 finger.
For example I have enrolled the first and second fingers on my right hand.

I can logon with either. There is also the usual way of logging on by entering a password in case the fingerprint file gets corrupted for any reason.

I very rarely use my password nowadays as the fingerprint sensor works well.

I assume the Toshiba Satellite uses the same fingerprint sensor software but I do not know for sure.

If you buying a laptop make sure you check out the latest CPU's .

Question: Fingerprint Reader

I have a dell usb fingerprint reader that worked on Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and won't work on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. In vista I installed Dell Embassy Suit and it took care of everything for me. Of course vista didn't install its own driver to it. The minute I plugged in the fingerprint reader to Windows 7 it installed a driver. However this driver must not be any good because Windows 7 does not recognize it as a fingerprint reader when I try to enable its use to log onto Windows. Dell Embassy Suit can use the reader, but for some reason when I try to store fingerprints it will give me an error. Sometimes when I log onto Windows it will ask me to slide my fingerprint. When I do this it just asks for my user name and password directly after I swipe my finger. Its not super important, but I would like to get it working. Thanks for any help in advanced! -Kevin

Hi, i have a T60 1953-DAU thinkpad laptop, OS is WinXP Pro and i believe it has the SP3 update I have aways used my fingerprint reader with no issues. All of the sudden it didnt show up when logging in. I opened the software and tried to re scan my fingerprints, as soon as i have the screen up it says "to short" and then "lift finger" where it will just sit there. At this point i had not even gone near the reader with my finger, it just seems to be scanning on its own for some strange reason. I also tried going into the control panel and testing the reader there, says to scan finger and print should show up, nothing happens. The only things i can think of is 1) the think advantage updates. and 2) i did have a virus which has since been removed. i have also tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it. If anyone has any other ideas or options i could try i would appreciate it. thankskathyMessage Edited by kathy4u2nv on 11-24-2008 05:03 PM

Question: Fingerprint Reader

does the reader allow for multiple users on the same password? , e.g. a family of prints ?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader

you can.

up to 10 finger prints can be registered to single password (that could be 10 fingers from your hand, or 1 finger print from each member of your family, if you have more than 10 family members then it is not possible). Using the fingerprint enrollment process, you can have different family register their fingerprint on the same password.

I have my first ever Thinkpad with a fingerprint reader. It just happened to come with one; I didn't order it that way. I'm not really seeing the value of fingerprint logins. My typed in password still works. I can log into Windows from the keyboard, as usual. Thus, I see no added security from fingerprints. It is kind of cool to swipe my finger to login, but sometimes I have to swipe multiple times, or try different fingers, so I'm not convinced of a time savings either.  What is the value-add here? Is there an aspect to the fingerprint reader that I'm missing?

Answer:What value is fingerprint reader?

it is more of a convenient security feature. If you turn down the fingerprint sensitivity (where fingerprint reader recognise less fingerprint features to give a positive pass).

Hi Everyone, I have got my new probook last week and I am continuously facing this fingerprint reader issue, Whenever I try to enroll my fingerprint, it say "fingerprint reader is not connected"  .. I have tried different fingerprint drivers from hp official website but none of them worked..   Does anyone knows the exact solution?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader

@Usman_Ahmad? You can use the Fingerprint Driver listed for your notebook at your Driver pages:Synaptics (Validity) Fingerprint Sensor Driver Driver:sp74167 Synaptics-Validity Driver V4.5.321.0A Commentary Windows 10 provides its own "fingerprint logon" software program set.  You do not need any other security software installed to use the Windows 10 logon.  Windows 10 (fingerprint) logon does not work with websites; Windows logon will get you into the computer by letting you use a fingerprint to log into your account. Windows 10 requires that you assign a PIN number in PC Settings > Sign-in Options to enable the fingerprint scanner.  Why?  Microsoft has added this additional security to allow access to the fingerprint scanner / software.  It is best if you write down / remember the PIN -- you will need it if the fingerprint software fails - and this does happen.  Nice thing about PIN -- it is tied to the hardware; no one can use it to remotely log into your computer.  NOTE:  You still need a Windows Password assigned to your account (ie., your local password or your Microsoft password used for password logins) -- PIN and password are not related.  PIN allows you access to fingerprint and perhaps other login methods (Hello, Picture). Additional Local Admin AccountAdditionally, it might be a good idea to add an additional local account that has administrative privileges.  If you... I recently began having a problem with my T60 fingerprint reader. It started saying to reconnect the fingerprint reader. I removed the memory panel just below the keyboard to investigate and found that the tiny white plastic clip that holds the ribbon-cable in contact with the reader was broken. One of the barbs had broken off and it was no longer making contact unless I put an unreasonable amount of pressure on the top of the reader. My question is, what is this part called and how can I replace it? I have looked around the Internet and through various Electronics/Technology stores with no luck. Thank you in advance.

you are probably better replacing the complete Palm Rest.
You will be able to find the correct FRU (part) number for your model in the Hardware Maintainance Manual. You should be able to order it direct from IBM or another source such as Fleabay.

I just had a cracked palmrest replacement delivered for my son's 15" T42. It was supposed to be the one without the fingerprint reader but they sent the one with the fingerprint reader. I know this won't work if the motherboard doesn't have the appropriate chip and I'm pretty sure my original motherboard (2004, just after the T42 was first released) did not have the chip. But the motherboard was replaced by IBM/Lenovo in August 2007, so there's a chance the replacement motherboard has the chip. Does anybody know if the BIOS will show this option if the palmrest does not have the fingerprint reader or does the fingerprint reader-equipped palmrest have to be installed before this option shows up in the BIOS list? Unfortunately, I can't just go into the BIOS and look - my son has the computer at college.  He'll need to bring it home to have the palmrest installed and I would prefer to know if this will work before I plan the necessary drive cage surgery, installation, etc. Thanks

Hi there, I'm using a ThinkPad T60 with the built-in fingerprint sensor. I used to use the sensor to log in into windows. At first it worked every time, then it started to only work occationally, but displaying the message "please connect fingerprint sensor" every other time. Last week I now re-installed windows xp (using the very same image I used before) and now I can't even register my fingerprints anymore. Whenever I try, I get this message: "Fingerprint sensor device reported a hardware failure".  Any ideas anybody?

Answer:fingerprint reader failure

joerg, welcome to the forum, try reseating the palm rest and connectors, instructions on how to do that can be found here. If that doesn't help and you have warranty, call support and get them to send you a new one.

I just purchased a E430 (3524CTO). Everything works but the fingerprint reader. I think I was able to register my left index finger but when I try to log into my gmail account, it said that it couldn't recognize my finger. So, I deleted it and tried to re-register it. Now, it keeps says that it can't recognize my fingerprint. How do I figure out if the fingerprint reader is broken or I'm just doing it wrong (i.e. swiping my finger incorrectly)? Thanks.

Answer:Problem with fingerprint reader

I could always boot or log into my t400s by swiping my finger - whether I was in sleep, hibernation, or after a cold boot. my x230 is flaky by comparison. the only time the fingerprint reader is available is when I have slept the machine. after a cold boot, I have to type the password and see various error messages about waiting for fingerprint reader or the fingerprint reader service was not started. I've installed all possible updates. any ideas what might be going on?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader solution for R61

The most up-to-date drivers were released on June 19, so you may want to make sure yours are the most current.

Another option is to completely uninstall and then reinstall the fingerprint reader software from this page:

I've heard that laptop fingerprint readers are not all that secure and sometimes a false positive can occur and let in someone even though their fingerprint really is not registered. Is this true?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader - Secure or not?

Hi all,My version of T60 did not come with a fingerprint reader. Recently I bought a plam rest with fingerprint reader part and tried to replace the original one with it.The cable should be properly connected and the Trackpad on the palm rest works fine. However, Windows and the latest Lenovo fingerprint software seem not to be able to recognize the reader. I can find the security chips option in the BIOS (v2.25), but not the finger reader related ones...Did I miss anything to make that reader work? I really love to have that function... Or, it just won't work in those T60 model originally with fingerprint reader?Do anyone have similar experience? Please help.Thanks! P.S. Sorry for cross posting.

I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate for a few years now with AuthenTec Protector Suite 2012 installed and a TrueMe fingerprint reading device.

The Protector Suite software allowed me to login to windows using a fingerprint and to use fingerprints to open password protected files as well as entering passwords into web screens. The software maintained a database, which allowed any entry of a password to be stored against a fingerprint.

Consequently, I've become used to simply swiping the fingerprint reader to enter all my passwords. Brilliant!

Along comes Windows 10 and I can't get Protector Suite 2012 to install. It gives the error "To use this product, Windows Biometric Framework must be enabled.". I can successfully setup Windows 10 Hello to use the fingerprint reader to login to Windows 10, but this is a small fraction of the potential of using fingerprints.

Anyone any idea on how to enable Windows Biometric Framework. By the way I've already tried using gpedit.msc to Enable "Allow the use of biometrics" but this doesn't appear to make the slightest bit of difference.

Alternatively, is there any Windows 10 compatible software out there that will do more than simply allow me to use my fingerprint reader to login. I would like to use it to enter passwords for protected files and web page inputs.

I performed a clean, fresh install of Windows 10 Pro alongside my existing Windows 7 Ultimate, so I can dual boot. Until I get ALL the functionality I ... Read more

Answer:Fingerprint reader on windows 10

Hi, I hope my experience can help you:

Lately I v got a Fujitsu LifeBook S935, with Validity Sensor, and few days ago' I decided to migrate from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 10 x64.
Done this, my validity Fingerprint Sensor was not recognized anymore.
With Win7 I was using UPEK Protector Suite WBF version (UPEK does exist in WBF version and in Common version, both x32 and x64) and a WBF Finger Sensor Driver.
I tried to do the same with Win10, but when I was trying installing UPEK Protector Suite WBF (Windows Biometric Framework) version, the install was stopping with the error "You do not have the Windows Biometric Framework" (the message was different but the meaning is that one).
Meanwhile neither UPEC Common version neither DigitalPersonal were recognising any driver (I tried a lot of them).
I understood with my configuration just a WBF driver was working, so that I found a receipt in order to go through.
I paste my receipt here below, do not make me too advanced questions, I am not an expert, I just found a way that I reckon can help all those are dealing with Windows 10 and a Validity Sensor:

ACTIVATE BIOMETRICS SERVICE IN WIN 10
Press the Windows + R key simultaneously to open 'Run'
services.msc
On the Left side set as Automatic and Start the service
- Windows Biometric Service

SET BIOMETRIC POLICY
Press the Windows + R key simultaneously to open 'Run'
gpedit.msc
On the Right side select Administrator Template/'Windows Components/Biometrics
On the Left side... Read more

Hi Guys -  I have been happily using my Fingerprint reader to power on and sign in for some time and I have totally forgotten my password (and my Hint was obviously a poor choice and failed me). When I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the computer was restarted I was asked for my password in a dialog box but had no idea. I got around it by turning the power off and restarting but it occurs to me if my fingerprint reader fails I will need to know my password -- Once i power on and log in via the fingerprint reader - how can I find out my password? Thanks for any help - Stephen
